Comparing Description and Imagery in The Foghorn and The...
Description and Imagery in The Foghorn and The Signalman
For this assignment I will be looking at two short narratives. One was written by Bradbury, in the
mid twentieth century , The Foghorn and the other was written by Dickens, The Signalman over
one hundred years before. Both are based on supernatural themes and ideas.
It is obvious that Dickens tale was written in the mid nineteenth century because his style of
writing is very different to the more modern techniques writers employ today. In his story he tells
us about objects which no longer have a place in modern society ,such as the telegraph and the
steam train . Therefore it was necessary to look more closely at Dickens script to identify how he

The narrator is obviously posed the same question and comments: There was something remarkable
about his manner .
The narrator wonders why the Signalman does not answer. So, right from the beginning the
audience has the perception that the Signalman is slightly mysterious and strange.
The opening to The Fog Horn is quite similar. From the outset the light house in the story is
established as a desolated, mysterious place, cold, dark and dismal, as described when the narrator
says :
Out there in the cold water we waited every night for the coming of the fog .
This immediately creates a cold dark atmosphere and prepares the reader for what is come.
Straight away McDunn and the narrator are established as two isolated people, as described when
the narrator says :
Feeling like two birds in the grey sky, McDunn and I sent the light ,
Also when McDunn says: It s a lonely life .
All of this imagery and description creates a powerful impression of how bleak and lonely the
lighthouse is.
The narrator in The Signalman is a mysterious man, like the signal man himself. He does not give a
lot of information about himself, not even his name. He says that he is staying in a inn:
I am currently staying in a small inn in the village near by
However he does not give

Arguments Against Lethal Injection

Lethal injection
In this article, it talks how the government carries out executions, not merely to its choice of
particular execution methods. and execution method such as lethal injection that can be humane in
theory and can be carried out by means of flawed or haphazard procedures that create a foreseeable
danger of inflicting severe pain in actual practice. Also, it said in the article that over time in the
absence of adequate safeguards, such a method of execution will inevitably involve the infliction of
gratuitous pain in some executions. The Inflicting gratuitous pain on a subset of condemned
prisoners is no more tolerable than inflicting gratuitous pain on all condemned prisoners. ... Show

To add without a doubt that killing another person is a terrible crime that one can commit. our
government is states that capital punishment is the wright choices because, after all, the criminal did
murder an innocent victim, and therefore should be killed. known as and eye for an eye, and
tooth for a tooth theory. Of course, if we used this system all the time, there would be no need for
laws. If someone hits me, I would hit him/her back. How simple, we can all be primitive again.
Also, some people support capital punishment the fear of being killed is going to stop criminals
from murdering.
Also, the cost of the death penalty is really high, the cost of keeping someone in jail for life which
will cost 600,000 per prisoner and just for one person to be put to death is would cost 2.3 million
per prisoner. That is not a logical reason to kill someone then to keep them alive because the cost is
three time less to keep a person alive in jail for life then to kill

Animals and Humans Are Not Equal Essay
Animals and Humans Are Not Equal
Franklin was a vegetarian in his youth, believing that killing animals was a kind of unprovok d
Murder. Later, however, Franklin was tempted by the smell of fish being fried. Having seen small
fish in the stomachs of fish being prepared, he decided he could eat them if they ate each other. If
animals eat other animals to sustain life, animals must be an excellent source of food. Meat contains
many vitamins.
Animals will have rights when they have the means to enforce them. They don t have the ability to
reason as humans do. The human race has such a vast understanding of the necessities for all of the
different species of animals to exist. Humans are far superior to any other animal because ... Show

Something worth consideration is that humans are the only ones who seem to complain about the
conditions. Animals are under some stress when they get there, but soon they adapt to the new life
well. Farm animals are adaptable in this way. When animals are stressed out they won t eat or
drink, thus, the animals in factory farms aren t under a great deal stress. As for disease, antibiotics
are always plentiful.
Medicine is another subject of much dispute. Antibiotics are used frequently in livestock to treat
many illnesses. Activists find this very troubling, saying antibiotics cause antibiotic resistant strains
of pneumonia, childhood meningitis, gonorrhea, salmonella, and other serious illnesses. They also
include that, 9,000 Americans die annually from food borne illness and an estimated 80 million
others fall ill. These numbers looks huge but because this article is found in the pro vegetertianism
section, people associate these figures with eating meat. They subsequentlyleave out ho many of
the 9,000 people die of pesticides on vegetables. As for the antibiotics all of them have a
withholding period. A withholding period is a set time period in which an animal receives and
antibiotic, can t be butchered for meat. This is so the residue of antibiotics is out of the meat. Most
antibiotics anymore are not given intermuscular, but subcutaneously (or just under the skin)

Monarch Butterflies And Chemical Pollution
Monarch butterflies and chemical pollution The monarch butterflies are decreasing by 1999 and
2010 there was a decline of the Monarch butterflies by 81% because of a Midwestern disappearance
of milkweed by 58% . Therefore, the butterflies are in danger, since they don t have food or
anywhere to lay their eggs.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The species information about these butterflies are that they re a large orange butterfly that flies
with its wings like a v shape while the wings have dark prominent veins and two rows with of
white spots at the edges with a dark body. Males tend to have bigger wingspread ranges, the
average would about 3.4 to 4 inches, than females and they [males] also have a visible dark spot
over a vein on their hind wings. Now, for the life cycle the egg takes about 3 to 8 days to develop

Then, the caterpillar takes 9 to at least 14 days to go through five instar stages before pupating.
The first instar larva, who just got out of the egg, is solid pale green and is translucent. Next is
the second instar larva which develops a pattern of white, yellow and black transverse bands, as
the tentacles start to grow. The third instar larva has more distinct bands which is particularly on
the abdomen. And the fourth instar is based by a new banding pattern on the thorax while the
white spots are on the prolegs near the back of the caterpillar. And finally, the last two instar larva
they have more complex banding pattern with white dots on the proleg. The final stage after the
larvae eats mass amounts of milkweed is to search for a location to form a pupa, and within a few
weeks the caterpillar will turn into a butterfly! Migration is what Monarch s are known for, since

Swat Team Research Paper
America was first introduced to the first SWAT teams in the year of 1966. SWAT, which first
stood for Special Weapons Attack Team, and then was later changed to Special Weapons and
Tactics, was founded by Daryl Gates who was a police commander for the Los Angeles Police
Department. SWAT teams are different from regular law enforcement in the fact that they are far
more advanced and handle far more advanced and dangerous situations. They use more powerful
weapons and more experienced policing tactics. They could be considered the elite members of law
enforcement. SWAT teams do not just deal with the normal criminal. They handle the extreme
criminals who often defy law enforcement. SWAT teams were founded in an effort the lower the
massively high crime rate that was dominating the late 1990s. These specially trained police
officers are an example of the paramilitary policing which also first arose during this time period.
Paramilitary policing can be defined just how it sounds. It is a style of policing that is similar...

African Americans. Something had to be done. Ultimately, the VCSU stepped in, took control of

Gout Attack Research Paper
Many people find gout symptoms to be unbearable. Gout attacks often occur without warning, but
there are many things you can do to reduce your risk of one. Below are some of the ways you can
reduce your risk of a gout attack:
Take Your Medication
Medication is one of the standard treatments for gout. Taking your medication as prescribed will
greatly reduce your chance of having a gout attack. Colchine is one of the medications that can be
used to treat gout. It works by preventing excess uric acid crystals from accumulating in the joints.
The accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints is what leads to gout.
Change Your Diet
Lifestyle changes can make it easier for you to manage gout. Uric acid is created when the body
breaks down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Excessive alcohol consumption is one of the possible causes of gout attacks. Many types of
alcohol, such as beer, are rich in purines. That is why alcohol can increase the production of uric
acid in the body. It can also reduce the effectiveness of some gout medications.
Furthermore, beverages that have been sweetened with high fructose corn syrup may increase the
risk of a gout attack. Limit your intake of those beverages and drink more water. Water can reduce
the risk of a gout attack by flushing out uric acid crystals.
Regular Exercise
Gout is such a painful condition, which is why many people who suffer from it avoid exercise.
However, you can actually reduce the risk of a gout attack by getting more physical activity in
your day. It is easier for you to maintain a healthy body weight when you exercise. People who are a
healthy body weight are less likely to develop gout.
Apply Ice
You may want to consider applying some ice to the affected joints. The ice can help reduce the
inflammation and swelling. Make sure that you wrap the ice in a dish cloth or paper towel and
then apply it to the affected area. Apply the ice to the area for 20 to 30 minutes at a time, several
times during the

The Harappan Civilization Of Indus River Valley
The Indus River Valley, located in present day Pakistan was a full fledged civilization that emerged
in 3300 B.C.E. The Harappan Civilization, stretching from present day Afghanistan to Pakistan
contained vast amounts of small communities. The society was very technologically advanced and
somewhat modeled the fundamentals of the society we live in today. The Harappan society was
one of the earliest to have a system of writing; however historians have still not interpreted them
today. Nevertheless, the society left us numerous archaeological and architectural ruins that provide
much information. Harappa, an Indus RiverValley that left us no written records, but only some
remains helped us understand the society s urban planning, trade, lifestyle and mortality rate.
From the remains that were left by the Harappan society; today archaeologists can understand the
civilization s urban planning. In the last few years, archaeologists discovered major structures that
belonged to the time period of 2600 B.C.E. These structures were made from baked bricks. These
structures gave us clues about the material that was used from the planning of the city. From such
remains, archaeologists were able to learn that house sand streets were laid out in a certain pattern,
which was from North to South and East to West. There were multistoried houses that were found,
giving us information that houses were present in the Harappan Civilization many like the ones
today. There were also parts of

The Preterm Birth And Autism
Prematurity and Autism have long time been thought to be linked. For reason such as late
development of preterm infants to the lack of adequate weight at birth. But, is it true that if a
baby is born preterm then they are destined to be autistic? In order to answer that question, we
must first be educated on preterm infants as well as the disorder of Autism. Not many people are
educated on what Autism is and even less are educated on the health and well being of premature
babies. The purpose for this research is to shed some light on both autism and premature birth as
well as justify if there is any connection between preterm birthand autism.
When one thinks of a baby born prematurely many imagine a tiny one pound baby barely able to
live even with all the ventilators and machines hooked up to it. They imagine a baby that will be
under weight and unable to leave the hospital for many months to come. Few will know the risk
factors that come along with being preterm, and even less will know that preterm babies are just as
capable of living healthy and normal lives. Every child develops in their own unique way, and your
baby s development will depend on a range of factors, including his genetic make up, and the
environment and influences around him (https://www.tommys.org).
For those who are unsure of what qualifies a baby as premature, a premature baby is any baby that
is born before 37 weeks gestation. Any baby born at 37 weeks or higher is considered full term. Late

Homeless Families In America
Homeless Families in America
We generally think of the homeless as people who made bad choices and are doing nothing to
help themselves. We rarely think of the parents who have to decide on either feeding their children
or paying rent. On how one event leads to a series of events that change the course of history for
these families. A familywith only one provider who dies unexpectedly, leaving the family with no
means of providing for itself. A motherwho has to choose the safety of her children over the
comfort her abuser provides. Against popular belief that most homeless are mentally ill or lazy
people who do not want to work, there are many causes of homelessness (Top Causes of
Homelessness in America, 2015).
The Typical Homeless Family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Transitional means that the family has instability when it comes to having a residence. An
example of a transitional living situation is homelessness, which is obvious when families are
living in shelters. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, out of
the 1.56 million people the used homeless shelters and emergency homeless centers between
October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2009, five hundred twenty thousand of them were families.
Homeless families are constantly on the move, trying to find a safe place for their family to
sleep. One day they may stay with friends, the next day at a shelter, and the day after that they
may be living under a bridge, in a car, or in an abandoned building. Some families who have no
home, choose to stay with family or friends (Zlotnick, 2014).
Families overcoming Homelessness One of the biggest challenges that families face when
overcoming homelessness is finding a stable residence. Every family faces its own set of unique
challenges. Finding gainful employment after either being underemployed or unemployed. Being
able to find affordable child

Analysis Of Domestic Unrest And Jennifer Johnston s...
One of the critics who discuss Johnston s work is Laila Khan. In her essay, Domestic Unrest
and Jennifer Johnston s Fiction of the Irish Trouble, Khan focuses on how Johnston s novels do
not concentrate on the violence happening in the nation, but instead how she uses Irish domestic
fictions to explored alternative approaches to friendships and family bonds that could exist
when women reject nationalist narratives (2). Khan s essay analyzes these trends in
relationship to the mothers in Johnston s The Railway Station Man and Shadows on Our Skin.
While women often are representative of Ireland in Irish fictions, Khan notes that Johnston
purposely creates mothers that refuses to act as mouthpieces for national rhetoric in the home,
choosing instead passivity or alternative kinships as what they see as the only escape (3). An
example of this from Shadows on Our Skin is the way the Mrs. Logan has sent her eldest son
Brendon off to England in hopes of keeping him safe (3). According to Khan, the purpose of this
is to keep him away from his pro Nationalist father, [and] also out of the Irish public sphere (3). In
The Railway Station Man, Helen is less interested in protesting political involvement than she is in
escaping it entirely (6). It is because of this that Helen is unlike many mother, she does not force
her son to owe her anything (9). This analysis differs from the one that will be examined in this
paper because, while the mother is an important figure, she

negatively effect personality development. This analysis specifically uses stages four, five, and six
to apply to Stephanie Tanner, as stages before or after are not able to be completed with present

In this stage, children enter school, and their teacher becomes an important figure in their lives.
During this stage, the child s peer group, such as their classmates, becomes much more significant,
and the child begins to feel the need to win approval by displaying typical abilities that society
constructs. If the child is encouraged in their initiative attempts, they develop a stronger sense of
confidence in their ability to achieve set goals, but if the child is unable to develop the set skill,
they begin to feel inferior.
The fifth stage is the identity versus role confusion stage, in which adolescents search for a sense of
self and personal identity through exploration of personal values and goals. This stages represents
the transition from childhood to adulthood. Erikson claims that two separate identities are
connected with this stage: the sexual and the occupational. Failure to create a sense of identity
during this stage can lead to role confusion.
The sixth stage is the intimacy versus isolation stage, which occurs in young adulthood. During this
stage, people begin to venture into more serious and long term relationships. If the completion of
this stage is successful, a sense of commitment and safety are achieved, while if the completion of
this stage is unsuccessful, a sense of isolation and loneliness can

This study addresses the domain of tourism and hospitality practices as well as its positive and
negative effects on the economy, culture and traditions, and the environment globally and in Saudi

addition, the study hopes to provide an understanding of residents attitudes towards tourismimpacts
on the culture, economyand the environment in Saudi Arabia.
Today, tourism has become a global phenomenon being widely recognized in both regional and
national levels. In fact, tourism is considered as one of the fastest growing sectors in the world
economy, thereby being viewed as a potential sector in raising tax revenues, providing employment
opportunities as well as promoting economic diversity (Khizindar, 2012). Goeldner and Ritchie
(2006) indicate that the significance of tourism has increased considerably through educational
institutions such as universities as well as media, which are conduits of spreading the concept of
tourism and hospitality .For instance, Saudi Arabia is one of those countries in the Middle East,
which is determined to promote tourism for growth and sustainability despite belonging to those
nations that have historically built their economies on oil and natural gas (Eid, 2012).

William Bradford Hardships
William Bradford created a detailed picture in our minds of the hardships the Pilgrims endured,
especially during their adventures on the Mayflower and Speedwell to find new land in hopes of
escaping England s control. Between furious seas, disease stricken passengers, and a cracked
beam on the Mayflower, the hope Pilgrims once had, was almost lost. Only the writings of William
Bradford could allow us to see what grueling torment our ancestors had to overcome.
Some of the many hardships that the sailors and passengers endured included furious storms,
terrible seasickness, abuse from the sailors and crew, dehydration and overall misery. The lack of
drinking water in combination with seasickness and no sanitation quickly grasped the bodies on
board. Drinking only beer, and lots of it, enabled the sailors and crewmembers to no point of
responsible reaction to mending the ship. Centuries ago, beer was so unfiltered that only a cup
would be enough to enable a child. Of course with drunkenness comes irresponsibility, and I m

than anticipated. After making it halfway across the Atlantic, a storm ultimately demanded the
surrender of the Mayflower and a harsh wave cracked the main beam holding the ship together.
Religious Pilgrims thought these the were signs from their God, granting them the oppression they

The period covered in this book is a very short one, covering the building of the Atlantic wall in
little detail, and in great detail, the few days before D Day and the initial attacks on D Day itself.
On the German side Hitler has ordered the building of a massive Atlantic Wall to stop any Allied
attackers from landing on the western seaboard, from the Kirkenes to the Pyrenees. After defeat in
Africa, Field Marshall Erwin Rommel is sent to inspect and oversee the wall s completion. After
seeing the horrible state of the wall Rommel worked to complete the wall as quickly as possible.
He had the German and French coast of the English Channel and their beaches filled with mines.
Rommel then placed heavy fortifications behind the beaches to stop any attackers who made it
past the beach defenses. In Great Britain, the Supreme Allied Commander, General Eisenhower
was planning the date to launch the massive attack on Normandy, but his time frame was limited
due to a bad storm in the area. On June 5, 1944 the ships were launched only to be recalled back
just 40 miles from the German forts along the coast of Normandy. If Eisenhower did not launch on
the 6th, he wouldn t be able to launch for another two weeks. So the early the next morning the

Abortions Should Not Be Made On Immoral Actions
[1]Our world has an immense collection of advanced technologies, but it is a shame that many use
it for immoral actions. Such technology has given mankind the power to produce desired children
from a cellular level, but at the same time offer families the freedom to abort the unwanted. In his
article, Rajendra Kale (2012) argues that healthcare professionals should not inform parents the sex
of the unborn until 30 weeks of pregnancyto avoid termination. In another article, Margaret Little
(2005) reasons that abortions are merely the demise of fetuses, and not the violation of rights to
live. Although the two present themselves in different ways, it can be assumed that Little would
ultimately support Kale s assessments. Perhaps the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, Kale argues that many feticides are prevailing due to the mere fact that the fetus is a
female. He believes that many families use gender balance among their children as a decent
reason to allow female feticide (2012). This is clearly not a decent enough reason; it is
discrimination and an excuse to kill an undesired sex. Little also supports this argument. She
uses an analogy that a girl should not end her pregnancy for the fact that she just wants to fit into
a party dress as an adequate reason(2005). To do so, is just a blind act of defiancey. There are
many more prejudiced reasons around the world that families use to opt for termination. Both
Kale and Little would agree that such filial reasons should not be used to extinguish a fetal life.
Next, Kale argues that women face emotional and physical trauma due to family pressures. Many
societies pressure woman to abort their kin against their will. Kale believes that his 30 week
policy would put an end to such practices, even if temporarily. The reason for this claim is because
without the knowledge of the fetus s sex, families are forced to continue the pregnancy. Little
accounts several situations where women faced trauma due to pregnancy: her sister s morning
sickness, her friend s pregnancy psychosis, or

How Did Friedrich And Finer Protect Against The Bureaucracy
Taking place in 1940, the Friedrich Finer debate featured the themes of how much discretion to give
to bureaucrats, what accountability measures should be in place against bureaucratic incompetence,
and if the other branches of government are capable of protecting against the bureaucracy. In
debating these, Friedrich and Finer have shaped the conversation around the bureaucracyin the
many decades since. When it comes to bureaucratic discretion, Friedrich believed that bureaucrats
needed to almost complete discretion about their work. If bureaucrats are experts at their work, then
they should be allowed to use their expertise to maximize their work outputs. Yet, as Finer pointed
out, bureaucrats may not always want to maximize their work... Show more content on

This culture of professionalism will prevent bureaucrats from becoming lazy or malicious in their
intents; the other bureaucrats won t allow such behavior to be tolerated. This culture will act as in
inner check against any potential wrongdoing by the bureaucracy. Thus, checks by the other
government branches is completely unnecessary. When combined with the other branches inability
to be experts in all of the bureaucracy s activities, it is also only risks the other branches decreasing
the efficiency of the bureaucracy. On the other hand, Finer argued that those checks by the other
branches is what prevented the bureaucrats from giving into their poor human nature. Additionally,
these checks act to give some democratic control over an otherwise completely undemocratic
branch of government. In a democracy, that is completely unacceptable; the judicial branch s final
say in how laws are interpreted, congress ability to appropriate agencies budgets and approve
nominees, and the president s ability to nominate those nominees is necessary for the bureaucracy
to maintain legitimacy with the American public. Whatever lack of expertise the other branches
may have about the bureaucracy s work is well worth this legitimacy. With that said, Finer s
argument about the bureaucracy, and what to do about, is the more accurate

Music Concert Review
Music has been around for centuries and has taken many, unique forms over the past hundreds of
years. Every culture, big or small, has their own different style of music. Music has evolved to
become a fundamental constituent of human life. I have been to many different instrumental
performances, but this was my first concertthat I attended since I have been at LSU. The setting of
this event was that it was located at the Union Theatre, and it started at 7:30 pm. The Union
Theatre was an amazing venue. I walked through the front doors and into the lobby of the theatre,
where a person was waiting in the box office to take my money and give me a ticket. When I
received by ticket, I was handed a program and went inside the theatre. The theatre... Show more

The first family of instruments was the percussion section. This family caught my attention because
I used to play percussion in high school. They also caught my attention because this family
emphasizes and sets the rhythm of the piece. I really enjoyed the xylophone instrument during this
concert because the xylophone brought out the melodies in each piece. Another family of
instruments that caught my attention was the low brass section. I enjoyed this when the intense
moment of a song came on because the low brass instruments emphasized the dark moments of the
intense sections of each song. This emphasis brought out strong emotions out of me towards the
songs. There were 5 guest conductors during this concert, but each one had their unique style of
conducting their songs. All five conductors wore tuxedos with a white bowtie. When the
conductor approached his podium, the band was stomping their feet to applaud him. He
approached his podium and bowed to everyone. These conductors pointed at a certain family of
instruments during a part of a song to emphasize those instruments to play louder, or softer. The
conductors also raised their hands when they wanted the band to perform a louder dynamic
change, or lower their hands when they wanted the band to perform a quitter dynamic change. I

Public Transportation In The United States
Public transportation in the United States provided more than 10.4 billion trips during 2011, up

Property Right Issues And Social Rights And Private Property
As the U.S. Constitution states, clearly in the takings clause of the Fifth Amendment, nor shall
private property be taken for public use without just compensation. Property right issues and
political momentum include increasing government regulation of private property, and supreme
court protections for private propertyare tightening. Societal goals are sometimes pursued through
government restrictions on the use of private property. Eminent domainstate and local government
have the authority to acquire private property for public use while taking is an unconstitutional
government appropriation of private property rights. The example that was used in class was the
city of College Station vs. Brad Pitt. The city of College Station wanted to develop Brad Pitt`s
property for economic development. Brad Pitt had a property being considered for development, so
he filed claiming that the use of eminent domain as contemplated by the plan violated the state and
federal constitutions. The class was divided into two groups to debate over Property Right vs.
Public Interest trying to answer the question, which of them should win over the other?
Like one of my sources Property Right vs. Public Interest (2006) mentioned, there are so many
ways that private property takes a part of to solve problems that are the outcome of human
collaboration. Private property enables the development of social services, that is, care of those

The American Society Of Criminology Essay
The American Society Of Criminology
AHHHHhhhhh! I let out a girlish scream and squirmed as shivers went strait up my spine. I was
glued to the latest episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, a show that I have watched

Compost
7 Solutions to Common Compost Problems
1. My compost is wet, soggy or slimy
Nothing is worse than cold, slimy compost! How does it get this way? Three factors are usually to
blame: poor aeration, too much moisture, or not enough nitrogen rich material in the pile.
A compost pile overburdened with materials that mat down when wet grass clippings, spoiled
hay, heaps of unshredded tree leaves can become so dense that the pile s center receives no air. If
you leave such a suffocating heap uncovered during a prolonged rainy spell (and don t turn it to
introduce some air into the center), you ll end up with a cold, soggy lump that just sits there.
Aerobic bacteria the tiny microorganisms that make compost cook cannot live in such an ... Show

But if you don t remove them from the finished mixture before you spread it on the garden, you
might find them snipping off the emerging roots and leaves of your beans, beets, and other
seedlings.
Ants and earwigs also invade compost piles. Like sow bugs and pill bugs, they are essentially
harmless to the composting process, but their presence may indicate that your pile is on a slow
track to decomposition.
To get these bugs out of your compost, raise the heap s temperature to above 120В°F. (If you
aren t sure what your pile s temperature is, measure it with a compost thermometer or a regular
old meat thermometer wrapped in plastic.) Turn the pile over and rebuild it, watering it well as
you go. If it contains lots of leaves or straw, mix in a nitrogen source like bloodmeal, manure, or
shellfish shells. It should start heating soon, and when it does, those bugs will depart for a more
comfortable place. To keep your pile cooking, turn it at least every 2 weeks; more often if possible.
But what if your finished compost is infested with sow or pill bugs and you want to use it where
seedlings are growing? Do you have to start all over again? No. Spread the compost in a thin
layer on a tarp in direct sunlight and leave it there to dry. The bugs will bail out quickly. 4. Plants

The Socio Cultural Measurements Of Environment
The socio cultural measurements of environment cover traditions, ways of life, and qualities that
characters the public in which the firm works or to say macro environment. Demography is one of
numerous variables that plays significant role to impact capacity of organization to run business to
function within society along maintaining socio cultural factor. Demographyis the investigation of
human populaces in terms of size, density, location, age, gender, race, occupation and different
measurements. Changes in the world demographic environment have major implication for
business. The total population rate is developing at an unstable rate that will soon surpass
nourishment supply and capacity to enough administration. Variation in demographicshas numerous
potential outcomes for business in sugarindustry. As population changes, the interest for items and
administrations likewise changes. For instance, decrease in populace comes about decrement of
demand and utilization of item and henceforth ultimately decreases the business.
From above chart and bar graph, we can observe the simultaneous relationship between population
and sugar production. The more population increased, the more production of sugarcane level is
also high and vice versa. Also, it is further affected by the sub components of demographic factors
which is shown in following chart.
Age, Gender, education, Health and Ethnicity, these all factors cover equal concern for demand and

Protein Thermal Stability Essay
Proteins are a series of connected amino acids, and in food products, proteins provide both
nutritional and functional properties that contribute to the quality of a food system (Christen and
Smith 2000). Protein in the diet is essential to the maintenance of life and health. Proteins are
compounds with a function that do work in the body such as facilitate reactions; however,
proteins are also functional in food systems. Proteins are used for a variety of reasons such as: to
create an emulsion, join pieces of meat together, form a skin on the surface of a product, and form
a stable foam matrix. Milk proteins such as whey and casein are isolated for many different
functions in food systems such as: foaming, whipping, gelation,... Show more content on

There are multiple methodologies implemented by scientists to determine protein concentration.
One of the oldest and most commonly used methods is the Biuret method (Okutucu and others
2007). The Biuret method is a colormetric assay that utilizes a spectrophotometric change
accomplished by reactions containing peptide bonds in conjunction with copper (Okutucu and
others 2007; Gornall and others 1949) to determine protein concentration based on a standard
reference. Thermal stability of a protein is an important factor in food systems. Heat is commonly
used to cook and/or sterilize a food product for a number of reasons. Heat is used in cooking to
denature the proteins present in bacteria to destroy them; however, if certain food proteins are
denatured, the food product could lose its functionality. Heating can also have beneficial effects on
proteins such as flavor, tenderness and digestibility (Christen and Smith 2000).
Protein thermal stability is not fully understood and can be due to a host of factors such as internal
folding, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic forces, and calcium affinity (Vogt and Argos 1997). There
are many types of proteins that convey thermally stable properties such as malate dehydrogenase,
lactate dehydrogenase, ferrodoxin, hydrolase, phosphofructokinase, and others (Vogt and Argos
1997). Argos and others (1997) explain that protein thermal stability is a result of the amino acid
sequence and the

two definitions from his first lecture Entering the Woods. Eco, there introduces a model reader. But

Is it good or bad? I think no because everyone thinks differently, everyone chooses their own path.
So do I. It is up to me, what I will choose, where I will go, what I will think about. It is like
walking in the woods (about what Eco told in his lecture), where are lots of trails, paths and
every one of them will lead a reader to a whole different thing. It does not matter, will it be wrong
or correct, because we all make mistakes and we all learn from them, it is right for me while
walking in the wood to use every experience and every discovery to learn about life, about the
past and the future (p. 9). If I will choose incorrect path while reading, if I will come to a
deadlock with understanding a text, later on, I will go back to the beginning and try another
path. But if in literature we are able to go back and start from the beginning, in real life it is
mostly impossible. That s why I think books are a good place to make mistakes, to try different
paths, to choose the correct one, to gain more experience. But this is not what I wanted to

Basaltic Vs Rhyolitic Essay
Explain the differences between Basaltic, Rhyolitic and Andesitic volcanic eruptions with reference
to processes, which lead to the eruptions, the type of volcano produced and the reasons for the
differences between the material erupted by these volcanoes.
Volcanic eruptions are caused by a red hot liquid rock, called magma inside the earth s core.
Volcanoes erupt when magma rises to the surface of the earth, which causes bubbles of gas to
appear in it. This gas can cause pressure to build up in the mountain, and it eventually explodes.
When the magma bursts out of the earth, it is called lava. The type of magma in the earth can create
different volcanoes. If the magma is quite thin, the gas can escape easily and there will not be an ...

Lastly, there are Destructive Plate Margins and conservative plate margins. Destructive Plate
Margins are the places where the Earth s crust is being destroyed at the same rate as they are being

Sediments that have accumulated at the bottom of the ocean form land mass as they rise as they
melt due to the magma, through the continental crust and then re appear as the continent. Also,
there is oceanic convergence. This is where two oceanic plates meet; one is forced under the other.
Oceanic trenches are formed and island arcs; (Hawaii). Lastly, there are continental convergence

Persuasive Essay On Immigration
Immigration has been, and continues to be a sensitive issues facing the country. The conceptions
of who should and shouldn t be welcomed are evolving, causing the proposals of new policies that
will alter the current immigration system. In May, both the Senate and White House agreed on a
new policy, only to have it criticized by people from both the left and right wings ( Immigration).
This act focuses on a shift from the importance of family reunification, or the advancement of those
with previous family ties, to a point based system, benefitting those with more education and
language skills (Immigration). Although transitioning to a point system hurts those U.S. citizens
hoping to bring family from other countries, immigration should focus on the halting of
discrimination against beneficial non relative immigrants who would contribute considerable
capital to the American economy.
Per year, around one million immigrants are granted lawful permanent residence into the United
States: family based immigration accounts for nearly two thirds of this annual quota (Gelatt). The
RAISE Act, as this new proposal is called, aims to reduce this number to half a million by
eliminating current family sponsored immigration categories to allow only spouses or minor
children of U.S. citizens to gain citizenship (Gelatt). This would result in a reduction of 226,000
family reunification green cards to 88,000 after the bill s passing (Gelatt). The most unfavorable

Essay about Social Classes in Wuthering Heights
Social Classes in Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights, a gothic novel written by Emily Bronte in the early nineteenth century,
describes the conflict and the passionate bond between Catherine Earnshaw and her rough but
romantic lover,
Heathcliff. In the beginning of the book, Heathcliff, an orphan is made a part of the Earnshaw
family. This adoption is not readily accepted by the older brother, Hindley, who sees the new
child as a rival to his claim of dominance in the family. However, Catherine, the sister is quickly
attracted to young Heathcliff, so different from anyone she had ever known. As the two grow
older, Heathcliff finds himself falling in love with Catherine. Mr. Earnshaw soon dies, leaving
Hindley in charge of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heathcliff is so desperate for acceptance that he is willing to cheat people to gain the property he
craves. By doing so he hopes to show
Catherine that he is worthy of her, a landowner in his own right.
After Catherine accepts Edgar s proposal, she seeks out Nelly and tells here that [I]t would
degrade [her] to marry Heathcliff now; so he shall never know how [she] love[s] him; and that, not
because he s handsome, Nelly, but because he s more [herself] than [she] [is].
Whatever [their] souls are made of, his and [hers] are the same, and
Linton s is as different as a moonbeam from lightning, or frost from fire. (Page 74, lines 29 33).
Heathcliff overhears this conversation between Nelly and Catherine and leaves Wuthering Heights
after hearing Catherine say that it would degrade her to marry him.
Heathcliff tries to make himself more presentable to Catherine by moving up the social system.
However, he does this by cheating and taking advantage of people. Heathcliff takes advantage of
Hindley s state of alcoholism and takes over Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff also takes advantage of
Edgar Linton s will my making young Catherine (the daughter of Catherine Earnshaw and Edgar
Linton) marry Linton (the son of Heathcliff and Isabella Linton) so he could acquire Thrushcross
Grange (where Edgar Linton lives).
Bronte seems to have mixed opinions of the lower class by characterizing Heathcliff positively and
negatively. Lockwood,

Similarities Between Islam And Buddhism
Islam and Buddhism
In this paper the purpose is to take two religions, to find similarities and differences between the
two. The two world religions chosen are Islam and Buddhism, to someone just considering
religions, they could be confused, at the surface they could think, that these two religions are so
different that one could not find any substantial, and meaningful similarities. Well that thought is a
very insider s view on the facts and histories of religion. as there are differences in each religion
which is what makes them unique, there are also similarities which are fascinating and which I
intend on explaining for the rest of the length of this paper. In the Buddhism and Islamic tradition,
they both speak of a man of significance. For Buddhism, it s the Buddha, the founder of the
Buddhist way of life, their eternal teacher for some he is called, the man who carved the path for
all. For the Islamic people, they have Muhammed, considered to most in Islamic tradition to be a
prophet a messenger sent from god. In the Islamic culture, it is said that no one could ever succeed
Muhammad in his nature and quality as a prophet. (partridge 397) These two men, in the very
broad sense of the word each taught the path that individuals should take to achieve the goal, and
by that made their legacy as some might say as the founders of their religion. For some Buddhist
that goal is the eight fold path or the way to liberation, this path can often be substituted for just a

Working For A Network Administration
Working for a Network 1.Network Administration is a broad term, but is usually associated with

realistically, is much more complex, because of the variety of jobs that have to be performed by

How Did Gilgamesh Search For Eternal Life
The Epic of Gilgamesh
Rafael Soto
HIST 1111 World History 1
Question 1
The Epic of Gilgamesh is represented as a two thirds god and one third human. A king that went
through a lot of changes in his life, from Love, friendship, death and search for eternal life. As we
can see at the beginning Gilgamesh is a powerful king with no compassion for others, and after the
death of his best friend Enkidu he realizes that death is unavoidable. Gilgamesh start his journey in
the search for eternal immortality; but during his journey and the struggles that he endures he gains
the capacity and the compassion for others.
We can see his compassion when he retrieves the plant that grows under the water and lose it to a
snake.
Compassion:
By its virtue a man may win back all his former strength. I will take it to Uruk of the strong walls;
there I will give it to the old men to eat. Its name shall be The Old Men Are Young Again ; and at
last I shall eat it my self and have back my lost youth. (N.K. Sanders, Chap. 6, p22) ... Show more

blood? For myself I have gained nothing; not I, but the beast of the earth has joy now. (N.K.
Sanders, Chap. 6, p22)
Gilgamesh quest for immortality and failures to pass all the tasks show us that death is inevitable,
but what is important is the life that we leave behind, the deed that we have done in it and the
impact that we have make in others. At the end Gilgamesh gain his immortality not in flesh, but

Descriptive Essay About The Lake
For there lay the lake. Not a lake, the lake, the lake that had been featured in every single one of
her father s tales, be they stories of ancestors or stories of his recent days; the lake that had
provided a countless number of shops around the world with authentic Icelandic arctic char, the
lake that had started and upheld and would continue to uphold the Heath family legacy for every
conceivable generation to come. Ice covered every inch of it. If the snow had been masters at
reflecting the glorious rays of sunlight, the ice sheets were gods. Fjola could hardly tell where
the atmosphere stopped and the frozen lake began everything she could see for yards and yards
was mirrored perfectly by the ice. The whites and blues and yellows and faint dotted greens ran
into one another until they were one, one unit, one item, one color; the color of amazement. The
landscape was hard and sharp and crisp beneath a world coated by a facade of softness and
kindness and love. But most of all was its sheer emptiness. Fjola was not about to let such a
magnificent scene escape her grasp. She was up and scrambling out of the car far before her
father had even parked the car, gathering her supplies and flinging herself from its interior out into
the cold, breezy environment that lay in wait for her small presence. By the time her dad had
collected his things and made his way along the lake, she had already dashed out onto the ice.
Caution had been thrown to the wind. She didn t

A Summary Of The Nicaraguan Revolution

The Nicaraguan Civil War is more commonly known as the Nicaraguan Revolution. These were the
events that made up the revolution:
In February 1990, Nicaragua s Sandinista government crashed to defeat in a general election. It
secured only 41% of the national vote compared with 55% for its conservative opponents. Rising
opposition to the Somoza dictatorship began in the 1960s and 1970s, due to humanitarian abuses.
A group of rebellious guerillas under the name of the Sandinistas started to attack the Nicaraguan
government, seizing government officials and sparking the Nicaraguan Revolution.
The Somoza dynasty was overthrown after the National Sandinista Revolution, which took place
when people from all sectors joined forces and finally defeated the Somoza dynasty and the
National Guard on July 19, 1979.

America s Favorite Sport Of The Super Bowl Essay
Another major business decision that Pete Rozelle made that further solidified football as
America s favorite sport was the creation of the Super Bowl, which is now the most profitable
single event for NFL every year. The Super Bowl today has become something like a national
holiday for the people. It is the most anticipated sporting events every year as many people look
forward to the Half Time Show as well as commercials from specific companies like Doritos and
the ever popular Mt.Dew. The Super Bowl was only possible from the NFL and AFL agreeing to
merge in 1966. In January 1967, the first ever Super Bowl, which at the time was known as the
NFL AFL National Championship showcased the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Although the first Super Bowl did not sell out the stadium the game managed to reach the largest
television audience for a sporting event with an astonishing 65 million viewers. According to
Wallace (1996), Soon after the first championship matchup between the established N.F.L. and the
upstart American Football League in 1967, the Super Bowl became one of the most watched
television programs, garnering ever higher rights fees from the networks and escalating ticket
prices (p. 1). When the two leagues officially merged in 1970 the following season started to
integrate the regular season games which brought new rivalries and more profit. The NFL has had

Cuban Missile Crisis Essay
On October 22nd, 1962, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States of America,
addressed the nation on television. In his seven point speech, he informed his audience that long
range nuclear missiles, capable of striking most of the major cities in the Western Hemisphere,
ranging as far north as Hudson Bay, Canada, and as far south as Lima, Peru (JFK library p. 3)
were being installed in Cuba by the Soviet Union. President Kennedydiscussed the United States
response, which included the placement of a naval blockade around the island of Cuba, a request
for an immediate convening of the United Nations Security Council, and a heightened military alert.

They also learned that Cuban pilots were training in Czechoslovakia on the latest Soviet aircraft.
Then, in mid 1961, CIA sources discovered that Cuba was receiving state of the art Soviet bombers,
fighters and transport aircraft.
At this time, the dilemma for American policymakers was that most of the military equipment
could be described accurately as defensive, and therefore not a threat to United States security.
However, much of it could also be used offensively, and the main concern was whether or not the
Soviets would provide Cuba with missiles capable of attacking America. (Johnson, Hatch p. 2)
Throughout 1961, Soviet ships continued to supply Cuba secretly with military equipment and,
then, in 1962, the volume and secrecy of the deliveries increased. In late August, for example, The
National Security Agency reported 57 Soviet ships in a little over a month.
Confronted with American concerns about this military buildup, Soviet spokesmen repeatedly
assured the U.S. government that the equipment sent to Cuba was for defense only. The President
alluded to this in his television address:
Only last Thursday ... Soviet Foreign Minister Gromyko told me in my office that he was
instructed to make it clear once again ... that Soviet assistance to Cuba, and I quote, pursued solely
the purpose of contributing to the defense capabilities of Cuba , that ... training by Soviet
specialists of Cuban nationals in handling defensive armaments was by no means offensive, and if it

  • 2. Comparing Description and Imagery in The Foghorn and The... Description and Imagery in The Foghorn and The Signalman For this assignment I will be looking at two short narratives. One was written by Bradbury, in the mid twentieth century , The Foghorn and the other was written by Dickens, The Signalman over one hundred years before. Both are based on supernatural themes and ideas. It is obvious that Dickens tale was written in the mid nineteenth century because his style of writing is very different to the more modern techniques writers employ today. In his story he tells us about objects which no longer have a place in modern society ,such as the telegraph and the steam train . Therefore it was necessary to look more closely at Dickens script to identify how he creates a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator is obviously posed the same question and comments: There was something remarkable about his manner . The narrator wonders why the Signalman does not answer. So, right from the beginning the audience has the perception that the Signalman is slightly mysterious and strange. The opening to The Fog Horn is quite similar. From the outset the light house in the story is established as a desolated, mysterious place, cold, dark and dismal, as described when the narrator says : Out there in the cold water we waited every night for the coming of the fog . This immediately creates a cold dark atmosphere and prepares the reader for what is come. Straight away McDunn and the narrator are established as two isolated people, as described when the narrator says : Feeling like two birds in the grey sky, McDunn and I sent the light , Also when McDunn says: It s a lonely life . All of this imagery and description creates a powerful impression of how bleak and lonely the lighthouse is. The narrator in The Signalman is a mysterious man, like the signal man himself. He does not give a lot of information about himself, not even his name. He says that he is staying in a inn: I am currently staying in a small inn in the village near by However he does not give ... Arguments Against Lethal Injection Cody Johnson Mr. Huseman, Nathan Cody Johnson October 29, 2017 Lethal injection In this article, it talks how the government carries out executions, not merely to its choice of particular execution methods. and execution method such as lethal injection that can be humane in theory and can be carried out by means of flawed or haphazard procedures that create a foreseeable danger of inflicting severe pain in actual practice. Also, it said in the article that over time in the absence of adequate safeguards, such a method of execution will inevitably involve the infliction of gratuitous pain in some executions. The Inflicting gratuitous pain on a subset of condemned prisoners is no more tolerable than inflicting gratuitous pain on all condemned prisoners. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To add without a doubt that killing another person is a terrible crime that one can commit. our government is states that capital punishment is the wright choices because, after all, the criminal did murder an innocent victim, and therefore should be killed. known as and eye for an eye, and tooth for a tooth theory. Of course, if we used this system all the time, there would be no need for laws. If someone hits me, I would hit him/her back. How simple, we can all be primitive again. Also, some people support capital punishment the fear of being killed is going to stop criminals from murdering. Also, the cost of the death penalty is really high, the cost of keeping someone in jail for life which will cost 600,000 per prisoner and just for one person to be put to death is would cost 2.3 million per prisoner. That is not a logical reason to kill someone then to keep them alive because the cost is three time less to keep a person alive in jail for life then to kill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Animals and Humans Are Not Equal Essay Animals and Humans Are Not Equal Franklin was a vegetarian in his youth, believing that killing animals was a kind of unprovok d Murder. Later, however, Franklin was tempted by the smell of fish being fried. Having seen small fish in the stomachs of fish being prepared, he decided he could eat them if they ate each other. If animals eat other animals to sustain life, animals must be an excellent source of food. Meat contains many vitamins. Animals will have rights when they have the means to enforce them. They don t have the ability to reason as humans do. The human race has such a vast understanding of the necessities for all of the different species of animals to exist. Humans are far superior to any other animal because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Something worth consideration is that humans are the only ones who seem to complain about the conditions. Animals are under some stress when they get there, but soon they adapt to the new life well. Farm animals are adaptable in this way. When animals are stressed out they won t eat or drink, thus, the animals in factory farms aren t under a great deal stress. As for disease, antibiotics are always plentiful. Medicine is another subject of much dispute. Antibiotics are used frequently in livestock to treat many illnesses. Activists find this very troubling, saying antibiotics cause antibiotic resistant strains of pneumonia, childhood meningitis, gonorrhea, salmonella, and other serious illnesses. They also include that, 9,000 Americans die annually from food borne illness and an estimated 80 million others fall ill. These numbers looks huge but because this article is found in the pro vegetertianism section, people associate these figures with eating meat. They subsequentlyleave out ho many of the 9,000 people die of pesticides on vegetables. As for the antibiotics all of them have a withholding period. A withholding period is a set time period in which an animal receives and antibiotic, can t be butchered for meat. This is so the residue of antibiotics is out of the meat. SWAT, which first stood for Special Weapons Attack Team, and then was later changed to Special Weapons and Tactics, was founded by Daryl Gates who was a police commander for the Los Angeles Police Department. • 9. The Harappan Civilization Of Indus River Valley The Indus River Valley, located in present day Pakistan was a full fledged civilization that emerged in 3300 B.C.E. The Harappan Civilization, stretching from present day Afghanistan to Pakistan contained vast amounts of small communities. The society was very technologically advanced and somewhat modeled the fundamentals of the society we live in today. The Harappan society was one of the earliest to have a system of writing; however historians have still not interpreted them today. Nevertheless, the society left us numerous archaeological and architectural ruins that provide much information. Harappa, an Indus RiverValley that left us no written records, but only some remains helped us understand the society s urban planning, trade, lifestyle and mortality rate. In the last few years, archaeologists discovered major structures that belonged to the time period of 2600 B.C.E. These structures were made from baked bricks. But, is it true that if a baby is born preterm then they are destined to be autistic? In order to answer that question, we must first be educated on preterm infants as well as the disorder of Autism. Not many people are educated on what Autism is and even less are educated on the health and well being of premature babies. The purpose for this research is to shed some light on both autism and premature birth as well as justify if there is any connection between preterm birthand autism. When one thinks of a baby born prematurely many imagine a tiny one pound baby barely able to live even with all the ventilators and machines hooked up to it. They imagine a baby that will be under weight and unable to leave the hospital for many months to come. Few will know the risk factors that come along with being preterm, and even less will know that preterm babies are just as capable of living healthy and normal lives. Every child develops in their own unique way, and your baby s development will depend on a range of factors, including his genetic make up, and the environment and influences around him (https://www.tommys.org). For those who are unsure of what qualifies a baby as premature, a premature baby is any baby that is born before 37 weeks gestation. Any baby born at 37 weeks or higher is considered full term. In her essay, Domestic Unrest and Jennifer Johnston s Fiction of the Irish Trouble, Khan focuses on how Johnston s novels do not concentrate on the violence happening in the nation, but instead how she uses Irish domestic fictions to explored alternative approaches to friendships and family bonds that could exist when women reject nationalist narratives (2). Khan s essay analyzes these trends in relationship to the mothers in Johnston s The Railway Station Man and Shadows on Our Skin. While women often are representative of Ireland in Irish fictions, Khan notes that Johnston purposely creates mothers that refuses to act as mouthpieces for national rhetoric in the home, choosing instead passivity or alternative kinships as what they see as the only escape (3). An example of this from Shadows on Our Skin is the way the Mrs. Logan has sent her eldest son Brendon off to England in hopes of keeping him safe (3). According to Khan, the purpose of this is to keep him away from his pro Nationalist father, [and] also out of the Irish public sphere (3). In The Railway Station Man, Helen is less interested in protesting political involvement than she is in escaping it entirely (6). It is because of this that Helen is unlike many mother, she does not force her son to owe her anything (9). Some of the many hardships that the sailors and passengers endured included furious storms, terrible seasickness, abuse from the sailors and crew, dehydration and overall misery. The lack of drinking water in combination with seasickness and no sanitation quickly grasped the bodies on board. Such technology has given mankind the power to produce desired children from a cellular level, but at the same time offer families the freedom to abort the unwanted. First of all, Kale argues that many feticides are prevailing due to the mere fact that the fetus is a female. He believes that many families use gender balance among their children as a decent reason to allow female feticide (2012). This is clearly not a decent enough reason; it is discrimination and an excuse to kill an undesired sex. Little also supports this argument. She uses an analogy that a girl should not end her pregnancy for the fact that she just wants to fit into a party dress as an adequate reason(2005). To do so, is just a blind act of defiancey. There are many more prejudiced reasons around the world that families use to opt for termination. Both Kale and Little would agree that such filial reasons should not be used to extinguish a fetal life. Next, Kale argues that women face emotional and physical trauma due to family pressures. Many societies pressure woman to abort their kin against their will. Kale believes that his 30 week policy would put an end to such practices, even if temporarily. The reason for this claim is because without the knowledge of the fetus s sex, families are forced to continue the pregnancy. To get these bugs out of your compost, raise the heap s temperature to above 120В°F. Turn the pile over and rebuild it, watering it well as you go. If it contains lots of leaves or straw, mix in a nitrogen source like bloodmeal, manure, or shellfish shells. Proteins are compounds with a function that do work in the body such as facilitate reactions; however, proteins are also functional in food systems. Proteins are used for a variety of reasons such as: to create an emulsion, join pieces of meat together, form a skin on the surface of a product, and form a stable foam matrix. Thermal stability of a protein is an important factor in food systems. Heat is commonly used to cook and/or sterilize a food product for a number of reasons. It does not matter, will it be wrong or correct, because we all make mistakes and we all learn from them, it is right for me while walking in the wood to use every experience and every discovery to learn about life, about the past and the future (p. 9). If I will choose incorrect path while reading, if I will come to a deadlock with understanding a text, later on, I will go back to the beginning and try another path. But if in literature we are able to go back and start from the beginning, in real life it is mostly impossible. Volcanoes erupt when magma rises to the surface of the earth, which causes bubbles of gas to appear in it. This gas can cause pressure to build up in the mountain, and it eventually explodes. The conceptions of who should and shouldn t be welcomed are evolving, causing the proposals of new policies that will alter the current immigration system. In May, both the Senate and White House agreed on a new policy, only to have it criticized by people from both the left and right wings ( Immigration). This act focuses on a shift from the importance of family reunification, or the advancement of those with previous family ties, to a point based system, benefitting those with more education and language skills (Immigration). Although transitioning to a point system hurts those U.S. citizens hoping to bring family from other countries, immigration should focus on the halting of discrimination against beneficial non relative immigrants who would contribute considerable capital to the American economy. Per year, around one million immigrants are granted lawful permanent residence into the United States: family based immigration accounts for nearly two thirds of this annual quota (Gelatt). The RAISE Act, as this new proposal is called, aims to reduce this number to half a million by eliminating current family sponsored immigration categories to allow only spouses or minor children of U.S. citizens to gain citizenship (Gelatt). This would result in a reduction of 226,000 family reunification green cards to 88,000 after the bill s passing (Gelatt). The most unfavorable aspect of the revision ... • 51. Descriptive Essay About The Lake For there lay the lake. Not a lake, the lake, the lake that had been featured in every single one of her father s tales, be they stories of ancestors or stories of his recent days; the lake that had provided a countless number of shops around the world with authentic Icelandic arctic char, the lake that had started and upheld and would continue to uphold the Heath family legacy for every conceivable generation to come. Ice covered every inch of it. If the snow had been masters at reflecting the glorious rays of sunlight, the ice sheets were gods. Fjola could hardly tell where the atmosphere stopped and the frozen lake began everything she could see for yards and yards was mirrored perfectly by the ice. The whites and blues and yellows and faint dotted greens ran into one another until they were one, one unit, one item, one color; the color of amazement. The landscape was hard and sharp and crisp beneath a world coated by a facade of softness and kindness and love. But most of all was its sheer emptiness. Fjola was not about to let such a magnificent scene escape her grasp. She was up and scrambling out of the car far before her father had even parked the car, gathering her supplies and flinging herself from its interior out into the cold, breezy environment that lay in wait for her small presence. By the time her dad had collected his things and made his way along the lake, she had already dashed out onto the ice. Caution had been thrown to the wind. She didn t ... • 54. Cuban Missile Crisis Essay On October 22nd, 1962, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States of America, addressed the nation on television. In his seven point speech, he informed his audience that long range nuclear missiles, capable of striking most of the major cities in the Western Hemisphere, ranging as far north as Hudson Bay, Canada, and as far south as Lima, Peru (JFK library p. 3) were being installed in Cuba by the Soviet Union. They also learned that Cuban pilots were training in Czechoslovakia on the latest Soviet aircraft. Then, in mid 1961, CIA sources discovered that Cuba was receiving state of the art Soviet bombers, fighters and transport aircraft. At this time, the dilemma for American policymakers was that most of the military equipment could be described accurately as defensive, and therefore not a threat to United States security. However, much of it could also be used offensively, and the main concern was whether or not the Soviets would provide Cuba with missiles capable of attacking America. (Johnson, Hatch p. 2) Throughout 1961, Soviet ships continued to supply Cuba secretly with military equipment and, then, in 1962, the volume and secrecy of the deliveries increased. In late August, for example, The National Security Agency reported 57 Soviet ships in a little over a month. Confronted with American concerns about this military buildup, Soviet spokesmen repeatedly assured the U.S. government that the equipment sent to Cuba was for defense only. The President alluded to this in his television address: Only last Thursday ... Soviet Foreign Minister Gromyko told me in my office that he was instructed to make it clear once again ... that Soviet assistance to Cuba, and I quote, pursued solely the purpose of contributing to the defense capabilities of Cuba , that ... training by Soviet specialists of Cuban nationals in handling defensive armaments was by no means offensive, and if it ... Starbucks felt Hear Music would add great value to the content offerings and distribution of great music Starbucks customers have come to expect. Although Hear Music was in the spotlight for releasing albums from great artists, Starbucksdecided in April of 2008 to give up all day to day management operations of the Hear Music label to the company s partner Concord Music Group.
