Essay about My Family s Experience with Foreclosure
Foreclosure is one of the hardest things that a person can be introduced to. It can
make a person or break a person, but for me it made me so much stronger. I can
truly say I have accomplished much more since getting out of a foreclosure scam
at a very young age of 16. Throughout that hard time I just continued to not only
motivate myself, but my mother because I understand getting something taken
away from you that you have worked hard for can destroy a good person. This is
what happened to my family and I, and what we did to overcome it. April 1, 2007
we got the phone call stating we had finally been approved to move into our first
family home after 13 years. We were so ecstatic that we immediately started packing

This lady sat at our dining room table talking to me and my mother about how we
were going to sue the man who leased us this home because he was not the full
owner of the house. He had some privileges to the home but only financially. We
stopped paying our monthly bill for 3 months because foreclosure on the home would
mean a immediate termination of our contract. The owner of the home also told us
she came because the mortgage on the home had not been paid since May. So not
only was the partial owner of the home not informing us of his financial problem but
he did not pay the mortgage company the money we gave him and still to this day we
do not know where our money is. We soon heard from him around Christmas time
but not about the foreclosure. The conversation revolved around if he didn t get
his money what he would do to my family. We were threatened mentally and
physically to the point that we changed the locks and immediately started looking
for another home. We found out the situation we were in was a scam because we
did some research and noticed that we were not the first person he had approached
with the same offer but also who lost all of their money in the same home the same
way we were. A week before Christmas eve my family received a phone call from the
sheriff s office from a man who was extremely concerned about us. He is the one

Summary Of The Unique American Prism
Every nation began its development with a certain expectation, or ideal in mind. The
Romans conquered their empire through force and brutality, a method similarly used
by the Ottomans, who used conflict as a way to expand their iron fist. Many nations
began in a way that appears most unsettling to people today, but it was thought that
once conquered, equality in law would follow. This was not always the case, and one
of the most prevalent examples of this is the expansion of the British Empire in North
America. Although the U.S. was settled not conquered, it was very evident that its
mother country Britain had no interest in bringing equality between the two
countries. It was easier for Britain to impose harsh taxes, tariffs, and commissions...

Most recently the United States involvement in the Syrian Civil War has proven to
be a profound example of this ideology. The United States has no business pursuing
countries less stable than their own in order to sway indigenous people into
restructuring their government into a democracy. This idea of spreading
democracy can easily be paralleled with missionaries pursuing foreigners of less
domesticated countries to join their religious following. Early settlers in the
Massachusetts Bay Colony were Puritans by religion and often disagreed with the
Church of England, these beliefs translated into a more individualistic approach to
self government. Subsequently, John Winthrop s sermon, A City upon a Hill
supports the assumptions of early foreign policy in America being coerced by a
political system of individualists and missionaries. Winthrop s role as the first
governor of the Bay Colony was important, for it sets the precedent for future leaders
of that time. He called for an unwavering unity of the colonists when he states, we
must be knit together in this work as one man...always having before our eyes our

The Effect Of Vitamins On Health And Health

Abstract
Many people in the world believed that Vitamins are required for body health.
Because there are essential for protect skin against sun damage, build tissue, protect
skin of discoloration and wrinkles, help to grow bone, muscles and increase ability of
our immune systems to fight infection. There are much evidence shows that each
vitamin has a very specific function in the body and if not receiving enough
amount of each vitamin can lead to develop many diseases. In the other hand, there
are also several pieces of evidences shows the effect of vitamins on health if it used
without recommended. The aim of this review is to discuss the role of vitamins in
the body health and also we highlight the role of mineral supplement and good food
source to protect the body from serious disease.
Introduction
Vitamins and minerals have given people a large number of benefits by protecting
body health.
Vitamin D is regarded one of most important vitamins supplement because they can
maintain calcium and phosphate level in blood. Furthermore, it is needed for normal
mineralization of bone, muscle contraction and general cellular function in all cells
of body. Also It is the only one is produced by exposure skin to sunlight. But taking

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol
Reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission, particularly from industrial
production, to combat global climate change is one of the biggest sustainable
development challenge for the international community. Countries are adopting
Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs), low carbon development
strategies and climate changepolicies to tackle issues of climate change and at the
same time meet their development goals. At the global level, United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Kyoto Protocol, have
paved ways for voluntary GHG emission reduction targets. To facilitate the mitigation
actions, carbon intensities of production process are tracked and GHG inventories
are developed. Such accounting of GHGs is a... Show more content on

GHG Reporting Programme
In simple terms, accounting and reporting of GHG programme begins with
identification of programme objectives. These objectives may range from voluntary
action like tracking progress towards GHG reduction targets; supporting national
climate change strategies; supporting GHG trading programs; facilitating GHG
mitigation activities; to provide information to shareholders and investors.
Once the objectives are decided, the programme decides on which GHG accounting
principles to adopt. Such process implements basic principles like relevance,
completeness, consistency, transparency, and accuracy of data. After the base year
has been selected the process follows internationally accepted GHG accounting
methodologies (see available protocols and standards below), which can be modified
to suit the requirement of the country or company.
After the objectives and the methodologies are agreed upon, the programme design
will decide on sectors, sources and gases that the programme covers. Generally,
major economic sectors such as energy, industrial processes, land use change,
agriculture, and waste disposal are considered for the GHG emission. Similarly, the
Correlation Between Consumption Of Cigarettes And Price
Interpretation of the Findings This study s framework was of a statistical nature.
The researchers took statistical data from two different years and compared them
against each other, with the only changing variable between the years was an
increase in sales tax on tobacco products. The data that was collected indicated that
there was a decrease in tobaccosales compared to the year before. Thus, validating
the null hypothesis by showing a direct relationship between consumption of
cigarettes and price. By looking at the observed ration of reduced consumption to
increased price ( 12.1%: 30.2% = 0.40) we can estimate the price elasticity. This
elasticity shows the responsiveness of the demand of the product versus its change
in price. This ratio was an expected value and shows direct correlation to
consumption of tobacco products and there price and is consistent with similar
studies done on tax increases on tobacco (Amato, et al., (2015).
Limitations
However, this increase in taxes was the highest tax increase in a decade in
Minnesota. This study was also limited in that it only looked at convenience stores
only and was to one specific area. Even with the stated 63% of all cigarettes being
bought in these stores it limits the study but not looking at all places where cigarettes
are sold. It also limited the types of cigarettes purchased. This study only looked at
three types of cigarette sells and do not include the purchase of cartons. Even though

As a child, Helen was often became frustrated that no one understood what she
wanted. As a result, she would become extremely violent. Her parents did not know
how to control her and they let her get away with anything.
Fortunately, they learned about Annie Sullivan, a teacher of the blind, who came to
teach and live with seven year old Helen.
Learning to Communicate
Anne Sullivan began by teaching Helen finger spelling, starting with the word doll, to
help Keller understand the gift of a doll she had brought along. Other words would
follow. At first, Keller was curious, then defiant, refusing to cooperate with Sullivan s
instruction. When Keller did cooperate, Sullivan could tell that she wasn t making
the connection between the objects and the letters spelled out in her hand. Sullivan
kept working at it, forcing Helen to go through the regimen. As Keller s frustration
grew, the tantrums increased. Finally, Sullivan demanded that she and Keller be
isolated from the rest of the family for a time, so that Keller could concentrate only
on Sullivan s instruction. They moved to a cottage on the plantation.
In a dramatic struggle, Sullivan taught Keller the word water ; she helped her make
the connection between the object and the letters by taking Keller out to the water
pump, and placing Keller s hand under the spout. While Sullivan moved the lever to
flush cool water over Keller s hand, she spelled out the word w a t e r on
Mistero Buffo Analysis
The Middle Ages are rarely considered a time of blossoming comedy, but the comic
mystery cycle, known as Mistero Buffo, brought a bit of frivolous light to the Dark
Ages. As explained in Dario Fo s analysis of these plays, jongleurs played a
precarious position in society: improving morale of the masses by mocking the rich
and ordained, yet keeping out from under the footsteps of those lampooned. This was
no more popular than during the feast of fools, where the working class gathered to
enjoy the jongleurs performances and release frustrations about the class system,
while masking it with a religious moral. Often performed at this event was the
Mistero Buffo (Fo, 1 14), which similarly juxtaposed relevant satire and biblical
passages through stock characters, Aristotelian values of comedy, and an underlying
breakdown of degree and religion. Medieval comedy, much like modern comedy,
relied on certain stereotypical tropes and stock characters, many of which are
consistent with those seen in the various plays in Mistero Buffo. An almost
introspective look on the jongleur, the oxymoronic clever fool in Death and the Fool
is a speaker of truths beautifully interwoven with lies. Death and the Fool also
provides the archetypal female characteristic of lavishing in compliments in the
almost giddy nature of the female Death. Murder of the Innocents also provides
several stock characters, including the obedient soldier and the hysterical mother
figure, although both are

with him or her. The other part was the republican s effect. Since these are the
major critics, they knew how to withhold support from coming trough to the
Democrats. They criticized every single issue that these Democrats told of the
health care system. These made it possible for them to conquer the battle and
defeat the Democrats in their quest to deliver healthcare systems. If the opposing
side becomes stronger than the proposing side, it weakens the government says on
an issue. The issue is over politicized and hence seen as of no importance and no
use to the citizens of a particular nation. (Rao 2012) Another interest of the group is

These would only mean that even when this bill was drafted to be passed as a law,
the Republicans would have rejected it. (Jacobs 2015) The policy process was
vague since Clinton had not considered putting the right measures of advocating
for this project. If he would come up with a more realistic pattern of undertaking
the process, then it would have been simpler to make people agree to the project
since it was an excellent program. The environment that this policy had to be taken
through was hostile. These are because the Democrats were not in standard terms
hence the delivery would have failed to have gone through. If a side does not have
a clear view on what to implement it is always correct for such a party to discuss
the way forward on what approaches they would have taken to convey to the
public. There was turmoil in the party at that time, so Clinton should never have
advocated for the advocacy of that bill at such a time. Hence he would have waited
for the political diversion to cool down to proceed with the healthcare plans.
Another thing that this leader would have done was to select another leader to
head the policy rather than his wife. This policy would have been respected more
and more people would have conquered with the bill for the well being of the
country. Lastly, Clinton was supposed to show his leadership authority by bringing
the party to one decision. Hence this was easier for him to allocate what its members
expected. (Tesler 2012)

In the case of the CWE group systems implementation, the minimum system
requirements for running Ubuntu 15.04 will be used to determine whether new
hardware will be purchased, or whether current systems running Windows XP will
be migrated to Ubuntu. The Ubuntu 15.04 operating system is distributed on two
types of bootable images i.e. 32 bit and 64 bit PC images. The 64 bit (AMD64)
desktop image is built to cater for systems based on the EM64T and AMD64
architectures such as Core 2, EM64T Xeon, and Athlon64. For 64 bit processor not
manufactured by AMD, or when full support for 32 bit applications is required, the
32 bit (i386) desktop image is recommended. The 32 bit image is designed for almost
all PC systems and includes computers with AMD/Intel processors, almost all
machines capable or running Microsoft Windows operating system offerings. In fact,
the 32 bit version of the Ubuntu 15.04 desktop image is recommended when
organizations/users are unsure of which version to use (Releases.ubuntu.com, 2015).
Another issue to consider on the hardware aspect regards the minimum system
requirements required to run Ubuntu 15.04. The Table 1 below shows the minimum
system requirements for Ubuntu 15.04 compared to the current system specifications
for machines running Windows XP. The third Requirements met column specifies
whether the current Windows XP hardware meets the minimum requirements for
installing Ubuntu 15.04. Ubuntu 15.04 Minimum System Requirements
The Importance Of Names In Song Of Solomon
People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain
personality, based on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on
the name of a beloved family member. Many names that are popular today are
names from the Bible, since most of the biblical characters possess characteristics
that parents would want their child to have. Names like Noah, Jacob, David, and
Miriam, are names currently in the top 1000 child names in the world, and they are
all biblical names. Names from the Bibleare also found in many works of literature,
like Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon, a coming of age story about a young man
during the mid twentieth century. The reader is introduced to multiple characters
with biblical names, which correspond to the characters personalities. In the book
Song of Solomon, the characters take on the role of their biblical names. Reba,
Milkman s mother, can most closely be associated with Rebecca from the Bible, as
their names are nearly identical. In the Bible, Rebecca is known for her loyalty and
devotion to her son Jacob, whom she favors over her other son, Esau. She willingly
ruins her relationship to one of her sons and also her husband, Isaac, both of which
she loves dearly. In Song of Solomon, Reba cherishes her daughter Hagar, and
makes sacrifices to please her, one of which includes the donation of her diamond
ring, which she miraculously wins when she walks into a Sears store. The winning of
the ring shows Reba s

The Grafin von Schonfeld with her Daughter by Elizabeth Louise Vigee LeBrun

people, both famous and not. They are painted by a variety of artists of European

painting by Elizabeth Louise Vigee Lebrun caught my eye and drewme in to look

The little girl s dress gives the texture of lightness and seems like airy fabric that
would be thin and translucent. The time in this piece is very accurate of the late
1700 s and when viewing it, the time seems classic. The emphasis of this piece is
mainly the mother and the daughter, however when looking at them you are drawn
into looking at their realistic eyes. The eyes seem like the focal point which draws
the viewer in to the picture.
The relationship in the painting between the mother and daughter give it a definite
asymmetrical balance and maybe a little radial balance. A radial balance because of
their eyes being the central focus, then the faces, then the holding of each other, then
where they are placed on the canvas, and then the bench and the landscape. The
colors used by the painter, also creates balance with in the picture. The wine
colored dress of the mother, red sash of the daughter s dress, ruby lips, and the rosy
cheeks give a warm feeling to the central focus of the mother and daughter. The
cool color of the sky is the same as the women s eyes as well as the trees and green
on the mother s dress. These balances give unity or a unifying feeling to the painting,
especially between the mother and daughter.
The idea of this piece is to show the connection between mother and daughter being
painted. It shows the time and the classic style of the
Primo Levi s Survival In Auschwitz
Primo Levi writes Survival in Auschwitz not to tell the reader about the atrocities
inside the concentration camp called Auschwitz. He acknowledges that the world
knows too much about these places to learn anything from him, so his goal is not
to educate the reader about the things that went on while he was a prisoner at the
camp. Rather, he writes this book to ... furnish documentation from a quiet study of
certain aspects of the human mind (Levi 9). In this book, Levi orders his stories not
in chronological order, but rather in order of urgency that they must come across to
the reader. In the various chapters of Survival in Auschwitz, he recounts various
aspects of life at the camps from a very personal viewpoint. The ideas are... Show

As Levi notes, Alfred s goal was to distinguish himself from the rest of the Haftling.
He did so by managing to keep himself clean, working with stubborn duty, and
always treating everyone with the utmost courtesy, no matter what. The
combination of these things set him apart in the eyes of the Nazis, who eventually
made Alfred L. the technical head of the Chemical Kommando. Levi also notes on
page 94 that ... L. was able to earn all this show of prosperity with incredible
tenacity, paying for his individual acquisitions and services with bread from his

people would simply not be able to adhere to the rules that Alfred supposedly set

Alfred. Elias employs a drastically different method to survive. As described by
Primo Levi, Elias is not a particularly intelligent person by today s standards. ... it is

White Australia Policy 1950 s
Introduction:
The White Australia Policy took place over a period of 72 years. The White
Australia Policy became a law in 1901, although it had been occurring since the 1850
s. It ended in 1973 when Australia realised than other countries were forming a nation
against Australia due to the policy. The White AustraliaPolicy was an attempt to
create a uni racial Australia. The Policy discriminated and took a massive impact on
anyone that was non European and others from other coloured races. The policy has
still changed Australia up until now. The policy is gone, but other policies still stand

Dictation Test:
In 1901 the Immigration Restriction was introduced with the intention of keeping
out anyone that was trying to get into Australia. The main feature of the idea was
having a test called the Dictation Test. The test was given to anyone that tried to get

Often time, new players brings new resources which can force product price down
and as well reduce profitability of the industry (Mann Byun 2011). Therefore,
incumbents on the defending side raise the threat for new players. The existing
retailers safeguard their position by aggressively expanding their production
differentiation in the aspect of brand loyalty, brand identification, customer service,
quality and advertisement. By so doing the existing firms can achieved significant

Reasons For The Fall Of Rasputin
In 1917, the Russian Empire collapsed after a long reign of almost 300 years. The
effects of World War I are said to have been the reason for the collapse of the once
powerful dynasty. However, was Gregori Rasputin the primary reason for the fall?
The question that was once whispered on thousands of Russians lips is still asked
today. Who was Rasputin? Gregori Rasputin was a Siberian peasant who not only
intrigued everyone by his bushy beard and piercing cold blue eyes, but by his
mystic holy powers he claimed to have. He believed that God had given him a gift
for healing as during his childhood, he almost died. Despite these claims, at a young
age Rasputin had already acquired a reputation for debauchery and his birth name
was changed from Grigori Yefimovich Novykh to Gregori Yefmovich Rasputin.
Rasputin meaning debauched one in Russian. However, Rasputin went through a
religious conversion at the age of 18 as he embraced the Khlysty sect. Rasputin was
happy with this sect as it preached that prolonged sexual engagements were the best
way to achieve the closest relationship with God. But how did a sexually
promiscuous peasant end up in the extremely powerful Russian government? After

But what was it that the citizens of Russia despised so much about Rasputin?
Rasputin was viewed by many as a puppet master that controlled the Tsar and
Tsarina. This image of Rasputin was widely used by the political opponents of the
Tsar s to show his lack of authority and his wife s incompetence. The staunchest
supports of Tsardom even found it hard to defend a system which allowed their
country, that was in its greatest trial, to be under the control of a debauched monk .
People merely saw Rasputin as a man who brought scandal to the royal family, made
Tsar Nicholas break his own October Manifesto and influence important decisions in

An Analysis Of Roy s Four Concepts Of Environment Essay
1. Roy states four different aspects of the concept environment as discussed in the
article that we analyzed in class. List the four ways Roy defines environment and
discuss each definition, and include an appropriate example from your clinical
experience (or from your own personal experience with illness). Do you find Roy s
ideas about the importance of environment in nursing practice useful? Why or why
not? Roy s four concept of environment are: The first approach, the concept is called
underspecified meta paradigm construct, which is compatible with the notion of
environment as a mediating presence. The second view sees environment as the
communicative context, that is, the phenomena under study exist in the social and
historical position of the person. The third way to conceptualize the environment is
to define it as social positions of an open field, where the nurses social position can be
seen as positive when related to patients and negative for the profession s institutional
subordination to medicine. Lastly, the environment is still conceptualized as a survey
list of extraneous variables, where effects that modify the variables of a hypothesis
diminish the generalization of theories (De oliveira, Et al., 2006). In the first
approach it involves the internal and external conditions, circumstances, and
influences that affect the person. All of the patient s surroundings affect the patient
including equipment and how clean a hospital is. My mother has

The Psychoanalysts of Violence Essay
The film Battle for Algiers can be analyzed thoroughly through Frantz Fanon s and
Hannah Arendt s polar opposite theories on violence. The implication of both theories
is represented in the film that has captured the understanding of both insightful
phenomena. Fanon s views on violence are it unifies individuals into forming a
complex unit organism that works together, rinses, in addition it is presented as an
effective and productive mean that support the process of decolonization. In contract,
Arendt s theory detaches the concept of violence from power and emphasizes that the
driven reasons for violence is anti political. Both philosophers present distinctive
theories upon the use of violence; Fanon elucidates his philosophy on... Show more

Hannah Arendt was regarded as one of significant and persuasive political
philosophers of the 20th century. While as her theories contradict fanon s, her
philosophical theory apposes the naturalization acts of violence, entailing its human
nature. Arendt (1969) claims that a society that acts on violence is a society that
lacks power; in her view, force (violence) and power should not be regarded as one in
the practice of politics (1969). In addition, Arendt explains violent revolutions are
destructive and therefore its results are uncontrollable and has negative outcomes for
humankind. In views of change, revolution must accomplish core changes in
process of decolonization that is logical and relating. The fundamental opposition
for resorting to violence as a mean to produce change is the neutralization of violent
revolutions as an effect of resorting to it as a strategic procedure to claim change
and justice, this results in preparing the society to act and be totalitarianism.
Moreover, the knowledge and belief that man knows his specified goal is ultimately
good is resulted by his ideology that categorizes it as good, owing to it s part of
human nature, or god s will; Arendt theory believes that religious extremist and
violent revolutionaries contribute to justify immoral procedures to claim their ends

Prejudice in The Song of Roland Essay
Prejudice in The Song of Roland
Unfortunately, the role of ignorance and jealousy combining to breed fear and
hatred is a recurring theme in history ultimately exhibiting itself in the form of
prejudice. As demonstrated through the altering of historical events in The Song of
Roland, the conflict between the Christian and Islamic religions takes precedence
over the more narrow scope of any specific battle and is shaped, at least in part by the
blind perception of a prejudice born of the ignorance and envy Christian Europe had
for representatives of the non Christian world. To fully see this prejudice and its
effect on the participants, it is necessary to recognize the circumstances of the real

Until the time of the crusades, Christians and Muslims had interacted at least on a
surface level through trade activities. Christian Europe had been exposed to the
wealth and knowledge of the Arabic world; however, with the movement to the
crusades the attitude towards the Muslims shifted to one of religious intolerance.
Recognizing that Roland deals with issues that are germane to the Europe of the
crusades helps to establish the connection between the religious intolerance that had
begun to surface in Europe and the events of the poem.
Before examining the text for details, the two major forces need to be examined
more closely. In the events recounted in The Song of Roland, the protagonists are the
Latin Christians who follow the teachings of the Pope in Rome. Up until the time of
Charlemagne the peoples of Western Europe fall into a category described by
historians as barbarians (Koeller). They were illiterate, loosely structured warrior

Examples Of Masculinity In The Shawshank Redemption
Masculinity Issue in The Shawshank Redemption A short synopsis from Rosanne
Salvatore and Parick Montero about this movie is: Two imprisoned men, Andy and
Red, bond over the years through their shared decency. Andy figures out how to
survive prison by upholding his own moral code and even how to escape it. The fact
that the film set place in a male prison screams the idea of masculinity. However it
might not be the kind of masculinity that is usually expected or seen in the typical
Hollywood movies. Usually men are illustrated wild, powerful, full of energy,
patriotic, and violent just like what Jackson Katz in his article, Advertising and the
Construction of Violent White Masculinity believes, that mass media plays a
significant role in reproducing and legitimatizing white masculinity through violence.
The idea off masculinity in this movie is different with the common idea of
masculinity that is usually shown through some characteristics such as wealth,
power, muscle, and such. In Shawshank Redemption, there are no gun fights, no
overwhelming action scenes, no too sentimental romance scenes... it really is a story
about men without all of the superior characteristics. So when a movie about men is
ignoring all the common masculinity elements such as wealth, power, strength,
violence or women, does that make men less men? Or... Show more content on

the position of black masculinity might only be depicted by one character: Ellis

Colonialism Of Cherokees And The Cherokee Indians And...
Throughout history, we see various forms of colonialism that have happened in the
world. Multiple groups of people were affected by this act of colonizing. An example
of the groups that were affected would include the Cherokees and the Mayans. Both
of these groups of people experienced colonialism in similar ways, either by
adaptation or resistance nevertheless they still had their differences. Although both
the Cherokees and the Mayans experience of colonialismoccurred in different time
periods, their use of adaptation was used as a source of defense against their
invaders. An example of this would be the way Cherokeewomen reacted to the
building of mission schools on Cherokee land. They first viewed it as a threat to
their role as Cherokee mothers. Once they began to understand the expectations and
goals the missionaries had, they maneuvered their children around these white
standards to keep their security while still having them in school. (Smith, 404).
They found the benefit if they conformed to this idea of civilized behavior the
Europeans had. However, the Mayans didn t encounter the use of schools on their
land rather they encountered the use of labor. The use of forced labor was often
applied, but the Cakchiquel (a certain group of Mayans) found a way around it by
using the tacagual and peyobal methods. The tacagual method was where one Indian
would pay another to do his work, while the peyobal method was where an Indian
would pay his town justices to

Fisheries And Oceanic Food Chains
In some way or another, we all rely on the oceans to survive. They affect weather
patterns, global temperatures, provide us with oxygen, all while removing carbon
dioxide from the atmosphere. More importantly, they provide us with the food that
sustains life. We have always relied on oceans for food. Fishingis not a new invention
but in recent history, humans have exploited this source of food. We have had a
chronic problem of over fishing, over harvesting the once bountiful supply of fish.
According to a National Geographic report, A study of catch data published in 2006

They used their catch logs, purchase records, all sorts of records to come to the
conclusion that overfishing has been happening in many parts of the world for
centuries. They concluded that in the past, there were far more fish and the fish were
much greater in size. Eventually, overfishing switched from freshwater to salt water.
This occurred roughly 1000 years ago when taste for freshwater fish in Europe was
replaced by a desire for marine fish. Possible causes for this change in taste are the
sheer amount of exploitation that left the number of freshwater fish dwindling and a
high amount of pollution found in fish remains that were dumped around northwest
Europe and England. In the 17th century, a fishing revolution was brought on by the
invention of two boats sailing next to each other dragging large nets behind them.
This method was made more efficient with the invention of steam powered boats and
eventually gas and diesel. Around the same time that engines became more efficient,
railroads were being created that connected the ocean shores to inland populations.
These advancements, along with more efficient storage methods, led to more fish
being caught and sold farther and farther out in the oceans. After WW2, further
vessel advancements allowed for the fishing fleets to stay at sea for extended periods
of time catching more fish than ever before. Around the 1960 s,

it is used best in three parts.
The first time in this book it uses the theme of survival of the fittest is when Buck
first gets to the Yukon. When he arrives in the Yukon, he witnesses another dog,
Curly gets murdered when trying to be nice and Buck describes it in this quote But

Baths Of Diocletian Essay
Throughout the Roman Empire bathing was an important part of life. Public
bathhouses offered the citizens an area to cleanse themselves, relax, enjoy art pieces,
socialize, and conduct business. The grandest and most lavish of these bathhouses
were the Baths of Diocletian, which spanned over 130,000 square meters on the
Viminal Hill . Diocletian s bathhouse was a great form of public benefaction to the
citizens of Rome, while displaying the emperor s eminence and power over the

Plagued by disease, chaos, and invasions, the third century AD was a time of disarray

Feminism Is An Interdisciplinary Idea
Feminism is an interdisciplinary idea. In sociology, feminism broadens our ideas on
gender and transforms it into a major field of study. George Ritzer, in Contemporary
Sociological Theory and Its Classical Roots, breaks feminist theory down into four
major varieties, gender differences, gender inequality, genderoppression, and
structural oppression. He then explains the different forms of feminismseen in each
variety.
The first variety, gender difference, describes, explains, and traces the implications
of how men and women are or are not the same in behavior and experience. Women
s location in, and experience of, most situations is different from those of men in
the situation. (Ritzer, 201) Cultural feminism is one of two theories Ritzer discusses
under gender differences. This theory explores and celebrates the social value of
women s distinctive ways of being. The core idea of theory is that a woman s way of
being may be better for society; better than those of the androcentric culture.
Cooperation, pacifism, and nonviolence in the settling of disputes, these virtues of
women can be argued better for governing a society. Another form of feminist theory
Ritzer places under the variety gender difference is feminist interactionist theory. In
this theory ethnomethodology claims that institutional order, culture, and
stratification are maintained by the ongoing activities of individuals in interaction.
(Ritzer, 204)When this concept is applied to gender it creates the
Why Do Chemical Weapons Be Banned
The world has been bombarded by stories of how governments keep secret
weapons, secret experiments, and the everlasting conspiracies about them. But how
many stories have people heard about chemical weapons til a few weeks ago.
Chemical weapons are one of the most dangerous threats that not just soldiers but
everyone face today, But the publicity they get is so minimal it s scary. But just
how much people know about them? Chemical weapons are an issue because
chemical weapons can cause so much harm that they should be banned. They are
weapons of mass destruction. Look at napalm, it sticks to your skin and feels like
your on fire. Chemical weapon agents, are organized into several categories according
to the physiological manner in which they
The Case Of Terry V. Ohio
The case of Terry v. Ohio took place in 1968. This case involved a Detective who
had witnessed three suspicious males patrol a street and stare into a specific
window multiple times. With reasonable suspicion and probable cause, Detective
McFadden assumed one of them could be armed. He then took one of the males
and patted him down to find that he had a pistol on him. He patted the victim
down for reasons of protecting himself and others in the community. The Fourth
Amendment does include, The right of the people to be secure in their persons,
houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not
be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by
Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the
persons or things to be seized (Israel, LaFave). The people who are being frisked
are for reasons that the officer wants to protect himself and others, not just for no
reason. People do have a right to their personal, private property and the stop and
frisk, or sometimes know as a terry stop, is approved if the officer has reasons to
believe the person could be carrying a weapon or a threat to society. The officer had
reasonable suspicionand probable cause to search the male and was able to legally
with the Fourth Amendment. The stop and frisk action has been around for almost
50 years. Is it time to put a stop to it because people think it is unconstitutional, or to
change the way we view
What Is The Poem Poetry Of Metaphors
Poetry of Departures by Philip Larkin is a poem that bears uncanny semblance to
life today especially that of the current day youth. The poem, apart from being a
good read, is a very apt description of how young people tend to go about their lives
these days mostly bored, slightly mechanical in outlook, wanting to do more but
failing to go noticed as more than a mere cog in the machine that s life.
The poem bases itself on the themes of escape, boredom, and restlessness and in
doing so it quite aptly portrays how dissatisfying out general attitude towards life is,
and how it is quite obvious why we seem to crave for more meaning in our daily
routines.
The poem however does this in a clever way through the dialogue. The feeling ...

And this tendency towards escapism is exactly what this poem describes. The
attitude that we can have toward our duties or our work because we are doing it not
out of love, but out of some weird obligation we feel towards satisfying the
expectations of our societies; the attitude where we just want to throw up our hands at
times and take a moment away from the hustle and bustle of our fast paces lives and
do something for ourselves in the selfish interest of happiness is something that the
poem very poignantly points out.
The sense of all pervasive boredom is also something that comes across to the reader
very effectively. The fact that today s youth all hate home (not because we actually
hate it, but because we take the comfort we get for granted) is something that cannot
be ignored. And this is not just true for our homes but for everything that has been
made available to us. In being enabled with most things, we often forget the true
value of the objects that make up our known surroundings, and this unfortunately is
the bitter truth that the poem subtly comments
Free Play In Politics
Famous American and political journalists P.J. O Rourke and Carl Bernstein took the
stage at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall on March 31, 2016 to discuss current U.S.
political and economic issues. Their performance was a part of the John S. Knight
Foundation s lecture series hosted at The University of Akron. Anxious guests talked
amongst themselves until the President of The University of Akron, Scott
Scarborough took the stage at approximately 7:42 p.m. to explain the night s roadmap
and introduce the evening s moderator, Dr. John Green. Before talking politics, Dr.
John Green, Director of the Ray C. Bliss Institute and Interim Dean for the College
of Arts and Sciences, introduced the two speakers. Their speeches were well
intentioned and felt almost too rehearsed. When discussing performance, we often
don t think about politics or political lectures. In a way, I suppose we as a society
want to believe that these leaders aren t acting or performing. Unfortunately, in this
year s presidential race, as well as the debate I attended, it s all pre scripted. With
that in mind, I think back to the first discussion post we were asked to write about
the many ways life is scripted. Nachmanovitch writes in Free Play There are many
situations in which we are inappropriately expected to plan or script the future
(Nachmanovitch, 19). Politics, for example, utilize various forms of scripting.
Political figures running for office pre write speeches that attempts to persuade or
Charles Goodeve Research Paper
Neepawa is a small Manitoban town of nearly 4000 people, which, despite its size,
concocts beautiful landscapes as well as successful individuals. One of these
individuals was the chemist, Sir Charles Frederick Goodeve, who was born in
Neepawa in 1904. At the age of 10, him and his family moved to Winnipeg where
he graduated high school and obtained both a Bachelor s degree in Science and a
Master s degree in electrochemistryat the University of Manitoba. Goodeve
relocated to London, U.K when he received a research fellowship to the University
College London in 1927. He was awarded with a Doctorate in Science from the
University of London in 1937. Charles Goodeve died in 1980, at the age of 76.

Charles Goodeve s electrochemical achievements during the war were not the only
successes he had in the scientific field. Specifically, he made significant observations
regarding the absorption spectra. He established the band spectra for unstable
molecules and the beginning point of diffuse or continuous absorption (which led to
dissociation). Though the work was difficult to accurately complete during the time
period, his measurements are still accepted today. Goodeve, captivated by the
volatility of unstable molecules and compounds, went on to research the severely
understudied oxides of chlorine, and later, the oxides of sulfur. His studies included
determining the heats of dissociation of Cl2O and ClO2 in a calorimeter and
measuring vapour pressure. His research on oxides of sulfur focused on the
oxidation of sulphurous acid solutions, and on the formation of sulphuric acid mists
from water vapour and sulphur trioxide. Though a mechanism for removal of this
mist was devised in the lab, it was not realistically applicable to
Nazi Decoders Research Paper
The Nazi Decoders of World War II.
America has gone through many tragic events throughout its history. Including wars
with foreign countries and presidential assassinations. However there are many
organizations and groups working to protect our country. The military, marines, air
force, army, navy, and coast guard are all working to prevent those against us from
taking over our home; The United States of America. The president, vice president,
Congress, senate, and the house of representatives are working to keep peace within
our nation. In 1939, September 1, World War II. broke out. One of the advantages
we had were groups of women decoding Nazi messages. They did this through using
a machine called the Enigma.
The Enigma machine was developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Female sailors were known as WAVES, which stands for Women Accepted for
Volunteer Emergency Service. There was a twenty three year absence of women in
the Navy from World War Ito World War II. In August 1942 women returned to
general Navy service. This all occurred when Mildred McAfee became the Navy
Reserve Lieutenant Commander. She was the first female commissioned officer
in US Navy history. Along with being the first Director of the WAVES (Kaushik 2).
WAVES were not allowed to serve aboard combat ships or aircraft, and initially
were restricted to duty in the continental United States. The WAVES performed
atypical duties in the aviation community Judge Advocate General Corps, medical
professions, communications, intelligence, science and technology. Late in World
War II, WAVES were authorized to serve in certain overseas US. possessions, and
a number were sent to Hawaii. The war ended before any could be sent to other
locations, (Kaushik 3). After the war, the US Congress passed the Women s
Armed Services Integration Act (Public Law 625) on 12 Jun 1948, allowing
women to gain permanent status in all military branches of the United States,
which put the WAVES program into obsolescence..., (Chen 1) Refined by the
British in 1939, the Bombe proved invaluable in helping decipher German radio
signals encoded using the infamous Enigma machines. This closely guarded secret
was soon shared with the United States. The Army and Navy developed hundreds
of similar machines for use in decoding German and Japanese messages during
World War II. The Navy s Bombe machines were manufactured in Building 26.
Each one required dozens of electro mechanical rotating elements, which were
assembled by the WAVES.., (Lee 3). The WAVES had produced parts for 121
Bombes. Some of the young women were also chosen to be trained to use such
machines. They were ordered to keep their work top secret,
Portrait D Une Negresse ( 1800 ) By Marie Guilhelmine...
Portrait d une negresse (1800), by Marie Guilhelmine Benoist. The woman painted
is sitting in what seems to be a domestic setting. However, unlike many other
painted black women in the Enlightenment, she is seated alone. She is not depicted
serving a white woman or doing any labour. The white cloths wrapped around her
head and body along with the light background creates a dramatic contrast between
the light colours and her dark skin. Her breast is exposed, but she is not sexualized
like in many paintings of white women of the period. Despite her less than modest
exposure, the woman does not show any signs of embarrassment. She is not blushing
and her gaze is fixed on the viewer in neither a demure nor passionate way. In fact,
she seems nonchalant about her exposure. Portrait of Catherine Grey, Lady Manners
(1794), by Thomas Lawrence. The aesthetics of painted skin play an important role in
Enlightenment concepts of race, especially of women. The painting above is by
Thomas Lawrence, depicting a white woman. She is very pale, almost translucent,
and there is a prominent rosy blush on her cheeks. There is a clear contrast between
this painting and Benoist s painting of the black woman, as Benoist s subject shows
no pink on her skin despite showing a fair amount of skin. Uvedale Price argues that
the inability to blush places women with dark skin under women with white skin. He
calls a white woman s blush among the highest pleasures of vision that show her

  • 2. Essay about My Family s Experience with Foreclosure Foreclosure is one of the hardest things that a person can be introduced to. It can make a person or break a person, but for me it made me so much stronger. I can truly say I have accomplished much more since getting out of a foreclosure scam at a very young age of 16. Throughout that hard time I just continued to not only motivate myself, but my mother because I understand getting something taken away from you that you have worked hard for can destroy a good person. This is what happened to my family and I, and what we did to overcome it. April 1, 2007 we got the phone call stating we had finally been approved to move into our first family home after 13 years. We were so ecstatic that we immediately started packing that very night. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This lady sat at our dining room table talking to me and my mother about how we were going to sue the man who leased us this home because he was not the full owner of the house. He had some privileges to the home but only financially. We stopped paying our monthly bill for 3 months because foreclosure on the home would mean a immediate termination of our contract. The owner of the home also told us she came because the mortgage on the home had not been paid since May. So not only was the partial owner of the home not informing us of his financial problem but he did not pay the mortgage company the money we gave him and still to this day we do not know where our money is. We soon heard from him around Christmas time but not about the foreclosure. The conversation revolved around if he didn t get his money what he would do to my family. We were threatened mentally and physically to the point that we changed the locks and immediately started looking for another home. We found out the situation we were in was a scam because we did some research and noticed that we were not the first person he had approached with the same offer but also who lost all of their money in the same home the same way we were. A week before Christmas eve my family received a phone call from the sheriff s office from a man who was extremely concerned about us. He is the one who told us how
  • 3. Summary Of The Unique American Prism Every nation began its development with a certain expectation, or ideal in mind. The Romans conquered their empire through force and brutality, a method similarly used by the Ottomans, who used conflict as a way to expand their iron fist. Many nations began in a way that appears most unsettling to people today, but it was thought that once conquered, equality in law would follow. This was not always the case, and one of the most prevalent examples of this is the expansion of the British Empire in North America. Although the U.S. was settled not conquered, it was very evident that its mother country Britain had no interest in bringing equality between the two countries. It was easier for Britain to impose harsh taxes, tariffs, and commissions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most recently the United States involvement in the Syrian Civil War has proven to be a profound example of this ideology. The United States has no business pursuing countries less stable than their own in order to sway indigenous people into restructuring their government into a democracy. This idea of spreading democracy can easily be paralleled with missionaries pursuing foreigners of less domesticated countries to join their religious following. Early settlers in the Massachusetts Bay Colony were Puritans by religion and often disagreed with the Church of England, these beliefs translated into a more individualistic approach to self government. Subsequently, John Winthrop s sermon, A City upon a Hill supports the assumptions of early foreign policy in America being coerced by a political system of individualists and missionaries. Winthrop s role as the first governor of the Bay Colony was important, for it sets the precedent for future leaders of that time. He called for an unwavering unity of the colonists when he states, we must be knit together in this work as one man...always having before our eyes our Commission and Community (Winthrop, a City upon a Hill ,

Countries are adopting Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs), low carbon development strategies and climate changepolicies to tackle issues of climate change and at the same time meet their development goals. Source: WRI and WBCSD, 2007: 21 GHG Reporting Programme In simple terms, accounting and reporting of GHG programme begins with identification of programme objectives. These objectives may range from voluntary action like tracking progress towards GHG reduction targets; supporting national climate change strategies; supporting GHG trading programs; facilitating GHG mitigation activities; to provide information to shareholders and investors. Once the objectives are decided, the programme decides on which GHG accounting principles to adopt. Such process implements basic principles like relevance, completeness, consistency, transparency, and accuracy of data. After the base year has been selected the process follows internationally accepted GHG accounting methodologies (see available protocols and standards below), which can be modified to suit the requirement of the country or company. After the objectives and the methodologies are agreed upon, the programme design will decide on sectors, sources and gases that the programme covers. Generally, major economic sectors such as energy, industrial processes, land use change, agriculture, and waste disposal are considered for the GHG emission. Similarly, the
  • 8. Correlation Between Consumption Of Cigarettes And Price Interpretation of the Findings This study s framework was of a statistical nature. The researchers took statistical data from two different years and compared them against each other, with the only changing variable between the years was an increase in sales tax on tobacco products. The data that was collected indicated that there was a decrease in tobaccosales compared to the year before. Thus, validating the null hypothesis by showing a direct relationship between consumption of cigarettes and price. By looking at the observed ration of reduced consumption to increased price ( 12.1%: 30.2% = 0.40) we can estimate the price elasticity. This elasticity shows the responsiveness of the demand of the product versus its change in price. This ratio was an expected value and shows direct correlation to consumption of tobacco products and there price and is consistent with similar studies done on tax increases on tobacco (Amato, et al., (2015). Limitations However, this increase in taxes was the highest tax increase in a decade in Minnesota. This study was also limited in that it only looked at convenience stores only and was to one specific area. Even with the stated 63% of all cigarettes being bought in these stores it limits the study but not looking at all places where cigarettes are sold. It also limited the types of cigarettes purchased. This study only looked at three types of cigarette sells and do not include the purchase of cartons. Even though cartons

Her parents did not know how to control her and they let her get away with anything. Learning to Communicate Anne Sullivan began by teaching Helen finger spelling, starting with the word doll, to help Keller understand the gift of a doll she had brought along. Other words would follow. At first, Keller was curious, then defiant, refusing to cooperate with Sullivan s instruction. When Keller did cooperate, Sullivan could tell that she wasn t making the connection between the objects and the letters spelled out in her hand. Sullivan kept working at it, forcing Helen to go through the regimen. As Keller s frustration grew, the tantrums increased. Finally, Sullivan demanded that she and Keller be isolated from the rest of the family for a time, so that Keller could concentrate only on Sullivan s instruction. They moved to a cottage on the plantation. In a dramatic struggle, Sullivan taught Keller the word water ; she helped her make the connection between the object and the letters by taking Keller out to the water pump, and placing Keller s hand under the spout. While Sullivan moved the lever to flush cool water over Keller s hand, she spelled out the word w a t e r on
  • 10. Mistero Buffo Analysis The Middle Ages are rarely considered a time of blossoming comedy, but the comic mystery cycle, known as Mistero Buffo, brought a bit of frivolous light to the Dark Ages. As explained in Dario Fo s analysis of these plays, jongleurs played a precarious position in society: improving morale of the masses by mocking the rich and ordained, yet keeping out from under the footsteps of those lampooned. This was no more popular than during the feast of fools, where the working class gathered to enjoy the jongleurs performances and release frustrations about the class system, while masking it with a religious moral. Often performed at this event was the Mistero Buffo (Fo, 1 14), which similarly juxtaposed relevant satire and biblical passages through stock characters, Aristotelian values of comedy, and an underlying breakdown of degree and religion. Medieval comedy, much like modern comedy, relied on certain stereotypical tropes and stock characters, many of which are consistent with those seen in the various plays in Mistero Buffo. An almost introspective look on the jongleur, the oxymoronic clever fool in Death and the Fool is a speaker of truths beautifully interwoven with lies. Death and the Fool also provides the archetypal female characteristic of lavishing in compliments in the almost giddy nature of the female Death. Murder of the Innocents also provides several stock characters, including the obedient soldier and the hysterical mother figure, although both are

  • 12. Clinton Political Policy Essay with him or her. The other part was the republican s effect. Since these are the major critics, they knew how to withhold support from coming trough to the Democrats. They criticized every single issue that these Democrats told of the health care system. These made it possible for them to conquer the battle and defeat the Democrats in their quest to deliver healthcare systems. If the opposing side becomes stronger than the proposing side, it weakens the government says on an issue. The issue is over politicized and hence seen as of no importance and no use to the citizens of a particular nation. (Rao 2012) Another interest of the group is the use of blame game when many critics are given to the one who proposed an individual issue.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These would only mean that even when this bill was drafted to be passed as a law, the Republicans would have rejected it. (Jacobs 2015) The policy process was vague since Clinton had not considered putting the right measures of advocating for this project. If he would come up with a more realistic pattern of undertaking the process, then it would have been simpler to make people agree to the project since it was an excellent program. The environment that this policy had to be taken through was hostile. These are because the Democrats were not in standard terms hence the delivery would have failed to have gone through. If a side does not have a clear view on what to implement it is always correct for such a party to discuss the way forward on what approaches they would have taken to convey to the public. There was turmoil in the party at that time, so Clinton should never have advocated for the advocacy of that bill at such a time. Hence he would have waited for the political diversion to cool down to proceed with the healthcare plans. Another thing that this leader would have done was to select another leader to head the policy rather than his wife. This policy would have been respected more and more people would have conquered with the bill for the well being of the country. Lastly, Clinton was supposed to show his leadership authority by bringing the party to one decision. Hence this was easier for him to allocate what its members expected. (Tesler 2012)

The 64 bit (AMD64) desktop image is built to cater for systems based on the EM64T and AMD64 architectures such as Core 2, EM64T Xeon, and Athlon64. For 64 bit processor not manufactured by AMD, or when full support for 32 bit applications is required, the 32 bit (i386) desktop image is recommended. The 32 bit image is designed for almost all PC systems and includes computers with AMD/Intel processors, almost all machines capable or running Microsoft Windows operating system offerings. In fact, the 32 bit version of the Ubuntu 15.04 desktop image is recommended when organizations/users are unsure of which version to use (Releases.ubuntu.com, 2015). Another issue to consider on the hardware aspect regards the minimum system requirements required to run Ubuntu 15.04. The third Requirements met column specifies whether the current Windows XP hardware meets the minimum requirements for installing Ubuntu 15.04. Ubuntu 15.04 Minimum System Requirements
  • 14. The Importance Of Names In Song Of Solomon People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain personality, based on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on the name of a beloved family member. Many names that are popular today are names from the Bible, since most of the biblical characters possess characteristics that parents would want their child to have. Names like Noah, Jacob, David, and Miriam, are names currently in the top 1000 child names in the world, and they are all biblical names. Names from the Bibleare also found in many works of literature, like Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon, a coming of age story about a young man during the mid twentieth century. The reader is introduced to multiple characters with biblical names, which correspond to the characters personalities. In the book Song of Solomon, the characters take on the role of their biblical names. Reba, Milkman s mother, can most closely be associated with Rebecca from the Bible, as their names are nearly identical. In the Bible, Rebecca is known for her loyalty and devotion to her son Jacob, whom she favors over her other son, Esau. She willingly ruins her relationship to one of her sons and also her husband, Isaac, both of which she loves dearly. In Song of Solomon, Reba cherishes her daughter Hagar, and makes sacrifices to please her, one of which includes the donation of her diamond ring, which she miraculously wins when she walks into a Sears store. The winning of the ring shows Reba s

At Elysium, the treatment for cancer stage 4 is as easy as

ART CRITICISM PAPER ART CRITICISM PAPER The Grafin von Schonfeld with her Daughter by Elizabeth Louise Vigee LeBrun In the University Of Arizona Museum Of Art, the Pfeiffer Gallery is displaying many art pieces of oil on canvas paintings. These paintings are mostly portraits of people, both famous and not. They are painted by a variety of artists of European decent and American decent between the mid 1700 s and the early 1900 s. The painting by Elizabeth Louise Vigee Lebrun caught my eye and drewme in to look closely at its composition. The Grafin von Scholfeld with her Daughter is oil on canvas art piece painted in 1793. The time in this piece is very accurate of the late 1700 s and when viewing it, the time seems classic. The emphasis of this piece is mainly the mother and the daughter, however when looking at them you are drawn into looking at their realistic eyes. The eyes seem like the focal point which draws the viewer in to the picture. The relationship in the painting between the mother and daughter give it a definite asymmetrical balance and maybe a little radial balance. A radial balance because of their eyes being the central focus, then the faces, then the holding of each other, then where they are placed on the canvas, and then the bench and the landscape. The colors used by the painter, also creates balance with in the picture. The wine colored dress of the mother, red sash of the daughter s dress, ruby lips, and the rosy cheeks give a warm feeling to the central focus of the mother and daughter. The cool color of the sky is the same as the women s eyes as well as the trees and green on the mother s dress. These balances give unity or a unifying feeling to the painting, especially between the mother and daughter. The idea of this piece is to show the connection between mother and daughter being painted. It shows the time and the classic style of the

This occurred roughly 1000 years ago when taste for freshwater fish in Europe was replaced by a desire for marine fish. Possible causes for this change in taste are the sheer amount of exploitation that left the number of freshwater fish dwindling and a high amount of pollution found in fish remains that were dumped around northwest Europe and England. In the 17th century, a fishing revolution was brought on by the invention of two boats sailing next to each other dragging large nets behind them. This method was made more efficient with the invention of steam powered boats and eventually gas and diesel. Around the same time that engines became more efficient, railroads were being created that connected the ocean shores to inland populations. These advancements, along with more efficient storage methods, led to more fish being caught and sold farther and farther out in the oceans. That same year, he led Argentina to the title in the under 20 World Cup, scoring on a pair of penalty kicks to propel the team over Nigeria. Messi embarked on an all out assault on the record books in 2012. He surpassed Cesar Rodriguez s club record 232 goals to become Barcelona s all time leading scorer. By the end of 2012, Messi had accumulated an astounding 91 goals in club and international play, eclipsing the 85 netted in a single calendar year by Gerd Muller in 1972. Fittingly, he broke one more record when he was named the FIFA Ballon d Or winner for the fourth time in January 2013. Although he is famously quiet and private off the field, Messi has found ways to help out others in need. In 2007, he formed the Leo Messi Foundation to provide opportunities for disadvantaged

  • 41. Feminism Is An Interdisciplinary Idea Feminism is an interdisciplinary idea. In sociology, feminism broadens our ideas on gender and transforms it into a major field of study. George Ritzer, in Contemporary Sociological Theory and Its Classical Roots, breaks feminist theory down into four major varieties, gender differences, gender inequality, genderoppression, and structural oppression. He then explains the different forms of feminismseen in each variety. The first variety, gender difference, describes, explains, and traces the implications of how men and women are or are not the same in behavior and experience. Women s location in, and experience of, most situations is different from those of men in the situation. (Ritzer, 201) Cultural feminism is one of two theories Ritzer discusses under gender differences. This theory explores and celebrates the social value of women s distinctive ways of being. The core idea of theory is that a woman s way of being may be better for society; better than those of the androcentric culture. Cooperation, pacifism, and nonviolence in the settling of disputes, these virtues of women can be argued better for governing a society. Another form of feminist theory Ritzer places under the variety gender difference is feminist interactionist theory. In this theory ethnomethodology claims that institutional order, culture, and stratification are maintained by the ongoing activities of individuals in interaction. (Ritzer, 204)When this concept is applied to gender it creates the

This case involved a Detective who had witnessed three suspicious males patrol a street and stare into a specific window multiple times. With reasonable suspicion and probable cause, Detective McFadden assumed one of them could be armed. He then took one of the males and patted him down to find that he had a pistol on him. He patted the victim down for reasons of protecting himself and others in the community. The Fourth Amendment does include, The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized (Israel, LaFave). The people who are being frisked are for reasons that the officer wants to protect himself and others, not just for no reason. People do have a right to their personal, private property and the stop and frisk, or sometimes know as a terry stop, is approved if the officer has reasons to believe the person could be carrying a weapon or a threat to society. The officer had reasonable suspicionand probable cause to search the male and was able to legally with the Fourth Amendment. The stop and frisk action has been around for almost 50 years. Is it time to put a stop to it because people think it is unconstitutional, or to change the way we view
  • 44. What Is The Poem Poetry Of Metaphors Poetry of Departures by Philip Larkin is a poem that bears uncanny semblance to life today especially that of the current day youth. The poem, apart from being a good read, is a very apt description of how young people tend to go about their lives these days mostly bored, slightly mechanical in outlook, wanting to do more but failing to go noticed as more than a mere cog in the machine that s life. The poem bases itself on the themes of escape, boredom, and restlessness and in doing so it quite aptly portrays how dissatisfying out general attitude towards life is, and how it is quite obvious why we seem to crave for more meaning in our daily routines. The poem however does this in a clever way through the dialogue. The feeling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And this tendency towards escapism is exactly what this poem describes. The attitude that we can have toward our duties or our work because we are doing it not out of love, but out of some weird obligation we feel towards satisfying the expectations of our societies; the attitude where we just want to throw up our hands at times and take a moment away from the hustle and bustle of our fast paces lives and do something for ourselves in the selfish interest of happiness is something that the poem very poignantly points out. The sense of all pervasive boredom is also something that comes across to the reader very effectively. The fact that today s youth all hate home (not because we actually hate it, but because we take the comfort we get for granted) is something that cannot be ignored. And this is not just true for our homes but for everything that has been made available to us. In being enabled with most things, we often forget the true value of the objects that make up our known surroundings, and this unfortunately is the bitter truth that the poem subtly comments

Thomas Performing Arts Hall on March 31, 2016 to discuss current U.S. political and economic issues. Their performance was a part of the John S. Knight Foundation s lecture series hosted at The University of Akron. Anxious guests talked amongst themselves until the President of The University of Akron, Scott Scarborough took the stage at approximately 7:42 p.m. to explain the night s roadmap and introduce the evening s moderator, Dr. John Green. Before talking politics, Dr. John Green, Director of the Ray C. Bliss Institute and Interim Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences, introduced the two speakers. Their speeches were well intentioned and felt almost too rehearsed. When discussing performance, we often don t think about politics or political lectures. In a way, I suppose we as a society want to believe that these leaders aren t acting or performing. Unfortunately, in this year s presidential race, as well as the debate I attended, it s all pre scripted. With that in mind, I think back to the first discussion post we were asked to write about the many ways life is scripted. Nachmanovitch writes in Free Play There are many situations in which we are inappropriately expected to plan or script the future (Nachmanovitch, 19). Politics, for example, utilize various forms of scripting. Political figures running for office pre write speeches that attempts to persuade or

At the age of 10, him and his family moved to Winnipeg where he graduated high school and obtained both a Bachelor s degree in Science and a Master s degree in electrochemistryat the University of Manitoba. Goodeve relocated to London, U.K when he received a research fellowship to the University College London in 1927. He was awarded with a Doctorate in Science from the University of London in 1937. Charles Goodeve s electrochemical achievements during the war were not the only successes he had in the scientific field. Specifically, he made significant observations regarding the absorption spectra. He established the band spectra for unstable molecules and the beginning point of diffuse or continuous absorption (which led to dissociation). Though the work was difficult to accurately complete during the time period, his measurements are still accepted today. Goodeve, captivated by the volatility of unstable molecules and compounds, went on to research the severely understudied oxides of chlorine, and later, the oxides of sulfur. His studies included determining the heats of dissociation of Cl2O and ClO2 in a calorimeter and measuring vapour pressure. His research on oxides of sulfur focused on the oxidation of sulphurous acid solutions, and on the formation of sulphuric acid mists from water vapour and sulphur trioxide. Though a mechanism for removal of this mist was devised in the lab, it was not realistically applicable to

However, unlike many other painted black women in the Enlightenment, she is seated alone. She is not depicted serving a white woman or doing any labour. The white cloths wrapped around her head and body along with the light background creates a dramatic contrast between the light colours and her dark skin. Her breast is exposed, but she is not sexualized like in many paintings of white women of the period. Despite her less than modest exposure, the woman does not show any signs of embarrassment. She is not blushing and her gaze is fixed on the viewer in neither a demure nor passionate way. In fact, she seems nonchalant about her exposure. Portrait of Catherine Grey, Lady Manners (1794), by Thomas Lawrence. The aesthetics of painted skin play an important role in Enlightenment concepts of race, especially of women. The painting above is by Thomas Lawrence, depicting a white woman. She is very pale, almost translucent, and there is a prominent rosy blush on her cheeks. There is a clear contrast between this painting and Benoist s painting of the black woman, as Benoist s subject shows no pink on her skin despite showing a fair amount of skin. Uvedale Price argues that the inability to blush places women with dark skin under women with white skin. He calls a white woman s blush among the highest pleasures of vision that show her softer
