Compare And Contrast Banquo And Macbeth
(Scotland) All of a sudden three shadows appeared from the darkness. Thunder, lightning, there was a
bang.
It was a cold, stormy night when Macbeth and Banquo were riding back to Dunshishane and had a
strange encounter. Three strange looking witches appeared to the two men and made some predictions
that would change their lives forever.
Macbeth and Banquo had been riding all night on their way home from battle when suddenly three
figures appeared out of the storm. When the man first saw these figures they were frightened. The
witches had strange beards, pruney fingers, and chapped lips. Banquo and Macbeth did not know why
the three witches were approaching, but they soon found out. When the witches reached the two men
they began to prophesize

Controlling The Borders Of The United States And Mexico
Controlling the borders of the United States and Mexico has always been a dilemma that seeks
attention and needs a new, innovative way to reduce the amount of immigrants crossing the border
illegally. Many attempts have been made by current presidents as well as previous presidents who
have had different views from each other and are still unable to solve the hurdles of controlling the
border. Mai Ngai makes the struggle known by stating that the previous attempted laws that have been
put in place to solve the problem will end in another failure. She calls them inhumane and hopes to
give immigrants a chance for citizenship. Although I Agree with Mae Ngai s Idea of putting in a
system that stresses the principles of flexibility and fairness, however I see faults in her view point of
welcoming immigrants to the country to work. On the other hand I do not think that all immigration
should be cut off entirely, as that may cause negative effects on the America s economy. Mai Ngai
mentions that the United States One size fits all rule favors northern and western European
immigration and is a restriction on densely populated countries like Mexico. If this law were to allow
a higher percentage of immigrants to be documented and allowed in the United States, then negative
effects would ensue in places near the border like Texas. When the population increases rapidly it will
be harder for police enforcement and may cause an increase in pollution and poverty. This is
something UTA

What Are Harriet Tubman s Greatest Achievements
Born into slavery, died a free woman; these are Harriet Tubman s greatest achievements. Tubman was
born in Dorchester County, 1822. Harriet worked in the fields, hauled logs, and did child care all as a

greatest achievements included being a nurse, caregiver, spy, and ranked the highest, being a
Conductor on the Underground Railroad. One of Harriet Tubman s greatest achievements included

Most women learn at a very young age the limitations posed by their type of hair. Consequently, they
dye, perm, and try to change their basic hair structure. Certainly, this leads to damaging the hair. In an

Effects Of Civil Disobedience
For a country to be recognizable as a nation it must consist of population, sovereignty, a governing
body, and a defined territory. In a federal government like the United States, the people exist to run the
government; however, the government exists to ensure that the people are under control and are free
from anarchy. The government also exists to ensure that itself remains under control from becoming
tyrannical. The United States government is a two party system made up of republicans and
democrats. These party members become state legislators, governors, national congressmen and
women, and the president of the United States and his or her cabinet. These are the people who
everyday try their best to formulate laws which will help keep the ... Show more content on

Many of these demonstrations have been uncivil and have had very negative impacts on the country
by further pushing the wedge of divisiveness between classifications of American people. Most of
these demonstrations are in protest of our newly sworn in Commander in Chief Donald Trump. Many
of these specific protests have turned to riots where the protestors turn violent and harm others with
differing beliefs and break into and loot businesses. That is unethical disobedience which should not
be tolerated. Another protest which was a negative representation of civil disobedience was the
Million Women March which occurred the day following President Trump s inauguration. This march
was exclusive, somewhat violent, and consisted of very limited vocabulary. In Washington, D.C., the
pro life feminist group New Wave Feminists were removed from the march by the people who
claimed to be pro woman. In D.C., there were some people dressed in right wing representing attire
and were physically harmed by the tolerable and pro woman protestors. At many of these marches
across the country and the world, people chanted vulgar words and expletives. Another example of
very unjust disobedience was the demonstration by the students of UC Berkeley just last week.
Berkeley students in the 1960s performed the peaceful Free Speech Movement on campus. Now the
students of this publicly funded college are almost showing

Disadvantages Of Phonology
INTRODUCTION
In India the current scenario is changing very fast, it is absolutely critical that every child has the
fullest opportunities to become an accomplished reader. It is important that every member of society
should able to read and write. Without these skills, a person will have to face enormous social,
personal, and economic limitations in today s complex and information flooded world. In the current
situation, demands for accurate reading writing skills are greater now than at any previous time in
history.
Phonology, broadly speaking, is that sub discipline within linguistics concerned with the sounds of
language . More narrowly , phonology proper is concerned with the function, behaviour and
organisation of sounds as linguistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process of reading development has different levels of phonological awareness within words:
syllables, onsets and rimes, and sounds. Good readers look for familiar letter patterns as one strategy
when attempting to decode or spell unfamiliar words they use familiar sound chunks from known
words, not just individual sounds (Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981). Thomas Gunning 1974
reported that students look for pronounceable word parts .This chunking / grouping of sounds makes
the reading and writing process much more effective and efficient. This letter pattern learning is based
on familiar syllable or rhyme patterns as well as sound clusters and individual sounds. This ability
helps child to find out inside words for syllables, rhymes, and individual sounds. Child has to
segment, blend, and manipulate syllables, onset and rime, and sounds of a particular word; this ability
makes the child successful in using letter sound knowledge effectively for reading and writing
(Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981; Maclean, Bryant, Bradley, 1987). The phonological
awareness skills of segmenting and blending are the most highly correlated with beginning reading
acquisition (Snow 192).
Students who may be at risk for reading difficulty often have poorer levels of phonological awareness
than others (Stanovitch Cunningham, Cramer, 1984). Although related, phonemic awareness is
different from auditory discrimination, phonetics, and phonics. The young child has the ability to
notice, mentally grab hold of, and manipulate different sound smallest chunks of speech (Hodges

Intelligent [UNK] Pavilion Analysis
The Intelligent Hospital™ Pavilion was presented at Orlando s Healthcare Information and
Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2014 conference. The concept of an Intelligent Hospital™
started in 2009 as an initiative from the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in Health Care
Consortium (Frisch, 2014). Its purpose was to promote and seamlessly combine education and
technology into an environment that can enhance patient care by having live demonstrations utilizing
the latest technology. Five different types of hospital rooms including ICU (as seen in the video),
emergency department, cardiology suite, labor and delivery and a step down unit were featured in the
Intelligent Hospital™ Pavilion along with an intelligent pharmacy.
The first type of technology mentioned in this video to provide the proper environment in the ICU and
used in the ICU at the Intelligent Hospital™ was Switchable Privacy Glass, also known as eGlass.
eGlass provides privacy for the patient along with infection control compared to curtains or double
pane glass improving patient s ICU experience. eGlass can be easily switched from clear to opaque
white. It can allow a clear view into a patient s room but can also easily provide privacy for exams,
procedures, and private conversations when necessary. eGlass is a solution that eliminates ... Show

Retention Strategies in Post Consolidation Banking...
CHAPTER ONE
Introduction
The Nigerian banking industry is one of the most dynamic and competitive industries in the Country.
The banking industry has transformed rapidly in the last ten years, shifting from transactional and
customer service oriented to an increasingly aggressive environment in which competition for revenue
is top priority.
The Nigerian Bank can now fit into the global definition of bank. Consolidation of the Nigerian
Banking sector is one of many reforms of the Gen. Obasanjo s administration that Nigerians have to
embrace happily. (Victor E, 2007)
Prior to the reforms, the industry was highly fragmented, with many banks having very small and
undiversified capitalisation. With a much higher capitalisation base, ... Show more content on

The regression in the nation s economy has taken its toll on both the private and public sectors.
Employee retention has therefore become one of the biggest problems in these sectors. As such, many
companies or organisation have had to downsize or reduce their staff strength by laying off some.
(Toluwani O, 2008)
The Consolidation in the banking industry has also given rise to competiton among banks for skilled
labour .Competition for talent is on the increase, and many companies are going to great lengths to
retain their best employees. This has further put pressure on these institutions to retain their staff

The Pros And Cons Of California Contract Law
The contract is an agreement that is given the full force by the law. It has been further defined as
legally binding agreement between two or more parties negotiating and agreeing to a deal, under
which both of the sides are bounded by the terms of that agreement. In its nature, the contract is a
promise or set of the promises which is essentially commercial and is involving either sale or hire of
the commodities. Contract are the base for performing business, and the laws on this matter are clear
and designed to enforce the rights, but also responsibilities of all the parties to the contractual
agreement. The contract law is the scope of law which recognizes and governs those rights,

Declaration of Rights / SEC. 9.), the rule applying for those in power to enact the laws is: „A bill of
attainder, ex post facto law, or law impairing the obligation of contracts may not be passed . California
contract law, unlike the majority of other states is fully codified in the California Civil Code, as the
general statutory law, where even the details in relation to contracts are included. But the rules are also
issued through the California Civil Jury Instructions (CACI) as a base to the California Judicial
Branch, where California courts are also using Restatement of Contracts (Second). Common law, of
course, has its great influence at Californian contract law in terms of the interpretations of the courts

Why Stewardship Is Important
Stewardship is one of the most vital aspects of living a good and holy life. Stewardship is a way of
living. There are four important factors to living a life of stewardship. These factors are receiving the
gifts of God with gratitude, cultivating the gifts from God responsibly, sharing them lovingly in justice
with others, and standing before the Lord in a spirit of accountability. Stewardship is an extremely
important component of all lives. One important part of stewardship is being grateful of the gifts we
receive from God. Everything in our lives are gifts from God, whether we realize it or not. There are
many people in the world who do not have the same luxuries that we do. For example, in my life, I

The Impact Of Technology On Society Today
There is no doubt that technology plays a big role in society today. Whether people like it or not, one
thing is definite: technology is not going anywhere. Having grown up in the midst of the digital
revolution, technology was going to be a part of my life, and it most definitely has. No matter if it is
the Internet, computers, cell phones, tablets, video games; I have been exposed to all of them.
However, of all the pieces of technology I have used, the one I cannot live without would have to be
my laptop. This year has opened my eyes to how important it is to have a nice laptop. Whether I am
taking notes in class, doing research online, typing a paper, surfing the web, or Skyping my family
back home, I am always using my laptop. Sure, I still use my cell phone a lot, but I honestly do not
use social media on it as I used to. So really the main purposes for my cell phone are what they should
be for; making phone calls and sending texts. If I did not have a laptop, it would make going to school
more challenging, I would spend much more time at the library using their computers and could not
enjoy lying in bed watching my favorite show on Netflix. Of course I could handle not having a
laptop. However, after completing my first year away at school, my eyes have been opened to the
importance of having one, and I have seen how dependent I am on mine. I use the technology I use
because it makes my life easier, simpler, and more efficient. I also use technology because it

Simon Sinek s Lecture Hit It Home For Me
Simon Sinek s lecture hit it home for me. Not just because he opened up with the soldier story, but the
fact where do you find people that can emulate what Capt. William did. Capt. William was a selfless
leader. He was not looking for recognition or someone to say way to go . His action is like do to others
as I would want do to me . Capt. William was not working towards any form of power but his own
judgement as to what needed to be done. And if other sees him and felt compelled to help, he was not
going to turn one away, nor was he going to recruit. It was just a job he wanted to pursue more like a

If that is their choice to be a passive or authoritative leader, it was not to affective for me. Would have
it been great to work at a place with Ophra. I do see her being a leader that I would like to have
learned from. To have a leader who wants to shape someone to be a better person. Recalling in the
textbook, chapter 2 when discussing about job performances and the presentation about work ethics. It
all give the impression to stem from behavior and motivation. I am not sure of the whole story with
Cpt. William. But I am sure he came from a well rounded situation that felt the need to give back. As I
am sure Ophra feels that way as well. These are leaders that I would like to emulate, ones that give
back. Although I am not much of a leader, I do try to use the skills to give back and this will allow me
to build trust with the people I associate from time to time.
For me, ideas to take from Simon s lecture is a challenge. I truly do not see myself being a leader. I
feel intimidated by others for their lack of support. I do not try to lead when asked to do something. I

Essay on Two Brands of Nihilism
Two Brands of Nihilism
As philosopher and poet Nietzsche s work is not easily conformable to the traditional schools of
thought within philosophy. However, an unmistakable concern with the role of religion and values
penetrates much of his work.
Contrary to the tradition before him, Nietzsche launches vicious diatribes against Christianity and the
dualistic philosophies he finds essentially life denying. Despite his early tutelage under the influence
of Schopenhauer s philosophy, Nietzsche later philosophy indicates a refusal to cast existence as
embroiled in pessimism but, instead, as that which should be affirmed, even in the face of bad fortune.

Good and evil are not the approbation or prohibition against certain actions, rather, such doctrine
codifies self hatred and begs the rejection of human nature . Christianity goes beyond a denial of just
the flesh and blood of the body to do away with the whole of the world. In
Twilight of the Idols, Nietzsche suggests in several places, that the world is falsified when dictated by
the tenets of dualistic philosophies, with emphasis on Christianity.
How the True World Finally Became Fable, a section in Twilight of the Idols, is subtitled The History
of an Error , for it supposes to give a short rendering of how the true world is lost in the histories of
disfiguring philosophies that posit otherworldly dualistic metaphysics. First, Plato s vision of the
realm of forms. The true world attainable for the sage, the pious, the virtuous man... , a feasible world,
achievable through piety and wisdom.
A world a man may come to know, at least possible for the contemplative and diligent student. In this
early imagining the world is not entirely lost yet, it is however, removed from the concrete world. A
world hardly accessible but by the few who might escape the cave.
The first realization of nihilism is the denial of the sensuous world for the really real. The idea of the
true world removed is then characterized as the
Christian world. The

about the story
I Am Sam is a powerful, emotional film about love, parenthood and the bonds of family. I m
fascinated by what makes a family and how people create that in untraditional ways, says director and
co screenwriter Jessie Nelson. I think all parents at times feel confused and overwhelmed. It is a
common bond between every parent on the planet, whether you re disabled or not. Parents who are
disabled provide a unique metaphor for how we re all trying to get through an incredibly challenging
world and how we all ultimately need some type of support system.
Raising a child is never easy, but like everybody, Sam Dawson (Academy Award nominee Sean Penn)
has learned to adapt. Sam and his daughter Lucy (Dakota Fanning) have gotten through the basics,
though not always in the conventional way, with the help of Sam s tightly knit group of friends.
Though Lucy s life has never been what anyone would ever call normal, it has always been animated
with humor and full of love.

Tragic Heroines In Greek Drama
In ancient Greece, societal conventions and norms permeated all aspects of life. The arts were
especially influenced by the ideals and beliefs of society. Gender was especially regulated in everyday
life, something we see reflected in many art forms. The ancient Greeks were extremely influential in
both the visual and dramatic arts. Throughout the development of these styles, we see how society s
established gender norms permeated the works of artists and playwrights alike. This is especially true
in the depictions of dramatic heroines. Women from famous legends and myth were popular topics of
study in the arts, but this does not mean they were spared from gendered expectations and roles. This
paper will study representations of Greek tragic heroines in Athenian drama and on vase paintings.
Through case studies of Alcestis, Medea, Electra, and Clytemnestra, I will see how perceptions of
these women consistent or varying across the different art forms, how they upheld expectations of
decorum, and how they are shown as upholding or challenging gender roles. By examining the
intersection of theatre and vase painting, we can have a better understanding of how Greek society
viewer these tragic heroines and the themes connected to their narratives. It is important to
acknowledge the time frame we are looking at for both the texts and vases. Greek drama greatly
developed and rose in popularity during the 6th and 5th centuries BCE, during which all of the texts

Theme Of Modernism In Mrs Dalloway
*Exploring the modernist elements in Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf Modernism is an era, which is
against the previous Victorian, Romantic, and Realistic eras in 19th and 20th century. In that time, in
order to understand reality, experience is more important than rational science. Modernism is a new
door to 20th century artists to look at the world from different perspectives, because after the World
War One, people became disillusioned by the previous eras and also we can say that this era is an age
of Anxiety and Dilemma. In that period of time, we can see strong relationship ties between artists and
representation of reality. Modernism was a kind of escape from the previous eras and this situation hit
the headlines among this time s artists. Mrs. Dalloway is a book that has nearly all features of
modernism; such as stream of consciousness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Guide to the Initial Public Offering Process
A milestone for any company is the issuance of publicly traded stock. While the motivations for an
initial public offering are straightforward, the mechanism for doing so is complex. In this paper, we
outline the process by which companies are brought to market in an initial public offering. Our goals
here are to delineate the specific steps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The remaining portion of the gross spread (approximately 20%) is used to cover underwriting
expenses (underwriter counsel, road show expenses, etc.). If anything remains after deducting all
expenses, it is divided proportionately among the underwriter and syndicate members depending on
the amount of securities each underwrote. One of the lead underwriter s first agenda items (usually
before any significant expenses have been incurred) is to draft a letter of intent. Indeed, an important
aspect of the letter of intent is to protect the underwriter against any uncovered expenses in the event
the offer is withdrawn either during the due diligence and registration stage, or during the marketing
stage. Thus, the letter of intent contains a clause requiring the company to reimburse the underwriter
for any out of pocket expenses incurred during the process. Another important aspect of the letter is
the gross spread or the underwriting discount. In most cases, the gross spread is 7% of the proceeds
(see Chen and Ritter, 1998 for an excellent discussion of the uniform size of the gross spread). The
letter also typically includes: a commitment by the underwriter to enter into a firm commitment
agreement (or other underwriting agreements, as the case may be); an agreement by the company to
cooperate in all due diligence efforts, and to make available all relevant

Paul Bauumer s Life
Shortly after the start of WW1, young Paul Baumer was a high schooler with his friends graduating
soon. Flyers and rumors were everywhere about the war, encouraging people to join the German army.
It wasn t until they were being influenced by their teacher s stirring patriotic speeches that they were
really entailed to join. Thus started the beginning of these boys road to the end. After experiencing ten
weeks of brutal training, Paul realized that the ideals of nationalism and patriotism for which he
enlisted are simply empty promises. He no longer believes that war is glorious or honorable, and he

death for Bäumer and his comrades. Only pitifully small pieces of land were gained, about the size of

Ewing s Sarcoma Case Study
Ewing s sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that grows in the bones. It is usually found in longer bones of
the arms or legs. The thigh bone (femur) is the bone most often affected, followed by the bones of the
pelvis, lower leg, upper arm (humerus) and chest.
It is the second most common type of cancer found in children. Ewing s sarcoma typically occurs in
people between 10 and 20 years old. However, it can occur at any age.
CAUSES
No one knows exactly what causes Ewing s sarcoma. Certain changes in genes seem to cause this
cancer; but what causes those changes is not known. The cancer occurs in white males more than any
other group of people.
Other possible causes include:
Injury or damage to the bone.
Radiation from an earlier cancer treatment.
SYMPTOMS
The major signs and symptoms of Ewing s Sarcoma are:
Fever with no cause.
Bones that break too easily.
Weight loss.
No desire to eat.
Paralysis, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lumps or swelling on arms, legs, chest, back or pelvis that are hot to the touch.

DIAGNOSIS
Ewing s sarcoma is diagnosed through a variety of tests:
An X ray may show where the tumor is located.
A bone scan may show whether other bones are affected.
A bone marrow sample helps find signs of cancer that could be affecting blood production.
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a diagnostic test that uses large magnets, radio frequencies, and
a computer to make images of organs and structures within the body. This test outlines the extent of
the tumor within the bone and joint and the relationship of the tumor to the muscles, nerves and blood
vessels.
A PET (positron emission tomography) scan may help to show cancer activity in some other parts of
the body. This can be helpful for staging the cancer (see

William Bridges Transition Model
Managing Transitions by William Bridges is a well constructed text written on Change Management.
Bridges begins by expressing the clear distinction between change and transition , with emphasis that
change and transition are not interchangeable terms, but completely separate processes. The concept,
according to Bridges, is simple: Change is situational, it is eventful, visible and tangible. Change is the
WHAT. Transition is psychological, a continuous process that happens over a span of time, it is
internalized by people. Transition is the HOW. Transition is internal, it is what happens to the person
mentally as they process the change.
Change is situational: the move to a new site, the retirement of a founder, the reorganization of the
roles on the team, the revisions to the pension plan.
Transition is psychological: a three phase process people go through as they internalize and come to
terms with the details of the new situation that the change brings about.
Bridges says that these phases have no sequential order of occurrence and the people will go through
transition at their own pace. It is not uncommon for an organization to be in more than one phase in
the transition process at a given time. This simply depends on how each team has handled the change,
some people may have already started the Neutral Zone while others are still lagging behind in the
Ending phase. Bridges Transition Model is illustrated in figure 1.1.

Peter Singer And John Arthur s Views On Famine And Affluence
Peter Singer and John Arthur s views on Famine and Affluence
All living things need four basic elements for survival: food, water, shelter, and fire. There are
portions of the world that have difficulty finding some or all of these four basic elements for survival.
The United States is the top affluent country in the world, which often creates issues regarding
morality. America is known as the land of opportunities where someone could attain a job to afford
housing, food, warmth, and so on for their families and themselves. The fact that Americans are able
to afford to supply themselves beyond the essentials puts us in a position that can be disputed: should
we supply for others who cannot attain basic elements for survival? In a piece by Peter Singer entitled,
Famine, Affluence, and Morality, Singer argues that Americans should prevent atrocious situations to
arise but, we also should not sacrifice something of equal importance while doing so. Moreover, in the
piece by John Arthur, World Hunger and Moral Obligation: The Case Against Singer, Arthur disagrees
with Singer; he believes that we should help the poverty stricken but, it is not morally imperative to do
so. The main point Singer is trying to show his audience is that we should try to prevent unfortunate
circumstances to arise for others but we should do so without losing something of equal importance to
us. This means that we should help the less fortunate but without putting ourselves

The Abuse of Alcohol by College Students
Alcohol and the abuse of it by college students is a big problem that many college towns such as Iowa
City, Iowa, are facing. With increasingly more students drinking alcohol, what was once just a casual
drink can quickly turn into binge drinking. This behavior has many consequences for not only the
student, but also the public. By being resilient and working together as a community, we all could
make it easier to combat this problem of binge drinking in college students in Iowa City and the
troubles that arise from it. Binge drinking is defined as the consumption of alcohol that raises a person
s blood alcohol concentration in a short amount of time. This usually means five or more drinks for
men and four or more drinks for women within a two hour time span. Although most college students
are not able to drink alcohol legally until their junior year, studies have shown that about four out of
five college students drink alcohol before the legal age of twenty one. Of these college students who
drink, about half of them engage in binge drinking. Binge drinking increases the risk of alcohol
poisoning, a condition that could result in death. This level of drinking has also been shown to
increase the risk of committing suicide and/or being a victim of sexual assault. Between 1.2 and 1.5
percent of college students say they have tried commit suicide and more than 97,000 college students
are sexually abused as a result of alcohol or drug use. (Warren) Binge drinking also affects

Swastika Significance
The Swastika went from being a great symbol that was worshiped, to being a hated symbol on a flag
that represented one of the worst things that has ever happened in history, mass genocide. The
Swastika is best known as a symbol on the flag for the National Socialist German Workers Party
(Nazi) in Germany. The Nazis were a political group of people trying to take over the world and
exterminate the Jews during WWII in 1933 1945. Adolf Hitler became their leader and led Germany
to exterminate between 5 and 6 million Jews during that time.. Hitler adopted the Swastika because of
its ancient Aryan origins. The history of the Swastika goes way back 11,000 years ago with the
Hindus. The Swastika was actually not hated but cherished. It was a religious symbol that meant good
fortune. There is still a holiday celebrated in many Eastern cultures where they shoot off fireworks in

meanings of the swastika, maybe we can take it away from the fascists (Campion, How the World
Loved the Swastika until Hitler Stole It). Despite all of this, Adolf Hitler has forever ruined the
original meaning of the Swastika. Freddie Knoller, a man who lived through the Holocaust said he
could never see it as anything but bad. He said, For the people who went through the Holocaust, we
will always remember what the swastika was like in our life a symbol of pure evil, (Campion, How

The Evolution Of Music And The Evolution Of Music
The evolution of music, how it started, and how composers create music is phenomenal nowadays, the
equipment used such as technology plays a great important role in how music is created and produced
for clients who want the music. Music composers are the main reason that music most people hear
today are available to be heard; thanks to composers, they provide the entertainment for consumers
and, like other employees that work, have to make money and earn a living for themselves. Music
composition is important in the music field, because without it people wouldn t be able to teach it or
learn from it, or music probably would not exist. History in this field is significant to the development
of music, as well as the job requirements, description of the job, and how it will affects one s life are
also important. Music has been around for years, decades, and centuries; as far back as 4000 BCE
(before common era) and even earlier was when the first drum based instruments came around (The
Method Behind the Music). No notation or writing of music in any way was done at the time as the
sounds made from simple natural sources (sticks and rocks) were used in religious ceremonies (The
Method Behind the Music). As time went on, various kinds of people experimented and created new
instruments such as the Greeks creating the natural trumpet and Egyptians creating flutes and harps
(The Method Behind the Music). For many years since then music theory has evolved from era to era

Essay on Servant Leader
February 5, 2004
Greenleaf s The Servant Leader
The Servant Leader discusses the importance of leaders who adopt a service oriented attitude in which
they care for the needs of others before their own. A servant leader need not be an actual servant or
have ever been a servant to become a servant leader. Rather, a servant leader is born with or adopts an
others first disposition. Climbing through the ranks may help to create a servant leader, though it is not
necessary. When leaders choose to see that the needs of their followers or their organizations are the
highest priority they become servants. The importance of servant leadership should not be
underestimated and it can be simplified and embodied in one timeless phrase: ... Show more content

In a way, the servant leader reads his or her audience and adjusts accordingly.
Under the heading Know the Unknowable – Beyond Conscious Rationality is a discussion of
creativity. Leadership . . . imposes some intellectual demands that are not measured by academic
intelligence ratings (14). The success of a leader is not determined solely on their intellect. While
education certainly contributes, it is not a guarantee. What leaders need to know goes beyond what can
be taught in a classroom or read in a book. The servant leader relies on intuition creativity. One of my
favorite quotations appears in this section: Others will depend on him to go out ahead and show the
way because his judgment will be better than most. Leaders, therefore, must be more creative than
most; and creativity is largely discovery, push into the uncharted and the unknown. Every once in a
while a leader finds himself needing to think like a scientist, an artist, or a poet (15). Ultimately, I find
that Greenleaf would say that a combination of intellect and instinct make the best leaders. This
quotation also suggests that a leader must be versatile rather than an expert in one or two areas. He or
she should be able to step into the shoes of others and find new perspectives. Greenleaf s discussion of
Awareness and Perception offers some especially important life

What Is The Theme Of Digging By Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney portrays his childhood as an unforgettable, fond, and special memory, which can be
seen in three different poems: Digging , Churning Day , and Blackberry Picking . His endless
expressions of affection towards childhood symbolises that it was influential and favourable time for
him.
Heaney expresses that childhood is unforgettable to him through the usage of regular activities. People
usually remember activities that influenced them the most. And regular activities, which happen over a

the activities involves many different senses, which are described by Heaney in a detail. There are
three senses involved in the poem Digging . Heaney remembers the clean, rasping sound he heard,
cool hardness he touched, and the cold smell of mould he smelt. Moreover, senses are described in
more detail in the poem through the usage of similes such as in the poem Churning Day . In the poem,
Heaney recalls the stink he smelt that was acrid as sulphur mine and the plash and gurgle of the sour
breathed milk that he heard. Also in the poem Blackberry Picking , Heaney uses similes to describe
the sense of taste and the sense of smell. He describes twice to reinforce the clarity of the memory. He
mentions that the flesh was sweet that it tasted like thickened wine . Later in the poem, he refers to the
sense of taste again that it was sweet flesh sour . Even the sense of smell was engaged. The
blackberries were stinking and they smelt of rot . All those specific and detailed narration of senses
point that so many senses were involved, which make the memory distinguished from other memories
and thus to be more memorable. And the fact that Heaney describes the senses in detail proves that the

Bitter In The Mouth Analysis
Race in the South has always been a major topic within the canon of southern literature ever since
John Smith s discussion of Native Americans in The Generall Historie of Virginia. The majority of this
ongoing conversation on race has revolved around African Americans, white people, and Native
Americans. However, in Bitter in the Mouth, Monique Truong challenges these stereotypical ideas of
race in the South, namely assumptions on how race and outside appearance impact cultural identity
and personal ties to southerness. Her primary strategy of doing this is the structure of the paper, where
she keeps Linda s race a secret for the first part of the novel before exploring it in depth during the
second half. Within this larger structure, she uses the juxtaposition of place to contrast southern
aspects of Linda s identity with northern culture and highlights stereotypical cultural markers of
southerness such as dialect and food within Linda s identity. With these strategies, Monique Truong
uses the unique point of view of Linda Hammerick, who is racially Asian but culturally southern, to
challenge the reader s assumptions of how race affects cultural identity and to expand understandings
of what makes someone southern in today s cultural landscape. The idea of southerness in Bitter in the
Mouth needs to be addressed before the concept further can be analyzed within this paper. The South
is a complex and diverse cultural and geographic region of the United States. Furthermore,

Character Analysis Of The Giver
The Giver: Analyzing Characters and Topics The character in the story that I was most fascinated by
was the Giver. This character has many admirable qualities. He is resilient against the painful and hard
memories he has seen and he is loving. He and Jonas are the only two characters in the story that are
even capable of loving. While reading this story, I felt as though the Giver and Jonas were lucky
because they get to understand and feel love, but on the other end of the spectrum, they experience
pain and great sadness. The other characters in the story get to be blissfully unaware of the pain and
suffering of the past. The first trait that I mentioned above, resilience, is why I like the Giver s
character so much. The quote that exemplifies this is, The worst part of holding memories is not the
pain. It s the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared. I ve shared them with you, Jonas said,
trying to cheer him up. That s true. And having you here with me over the past year has made me
realize that things must change. For years I ve felt that they should, but it seemed so hopeless. Now
for the first time I think there might be a way (Lowry 1993 Ch. 20 p. 154 155 para. 9 11). This shows
the Giver s resilience. He has been lonely because he had these memories, some that were very
painful, and no one with which to share them. He saw pain and love and somehow lived with the
burden of this knowledge. He continued to carry the burden of being the Receiver while

Abortion is widely debated across the world and in 1973 Roe v. Wade would start an issue with ethical
and legal issues. There are multiple cases arguing why it should or shouldn t be lawful to go through
with this procedure. Women should have the right to get an abortion as It is her rights to decide if they
aren t able to be able have a child, the woman shouldn t have to rely on anyone else, she should be
able to make this decision as they have to carry it for 9 months and endure the physical pain. Abortion
should not be illegal because it is justifiable in cases of rape, or when the woman has mental health or
financial issues. In the case of rape, it is unjustifiable to say that a woman has to carry a baby when
she is forced into intercourse with a man who the woman does not please. For those who say that
abortion is so inhumane, why doesn t one simply look at the act of rape as disgusting as someone
would look at abortion. The victim is going through enough being forced without choice to have a
child if she consumes, so why make her carry the baby for 9 months knowing that the perpetrator has
given her this child. I don t think that the women should have to be mentally viable for this child or
have to take care of a child that is forced upon her own will. Having a child hurts very much, why put
a victim of rape through more pain then she has to endure? Abortion isn t illegal in other countries for
more serious issues why should America make it illegal? Someone with mental

Analysis Of Cathedral And The Handsomest Man Drowned
Point of view is an integral tool that is used by authors to express an individual s feelings, emotions,
and thoughts throughout the story. It gives the reader an understanding of a character s development.
The first person point of view is limited to one character as it draws the reader into the mind of one
character s thoughts and emotions. Third person narration may be omniscient or limited. The third
person omniscient tells the story in which the narrator is aware of the thoughts and feelings of all the
characters, while limited third person is restricted to the thoughts of certain characters. The use of the
first person narration and third person limited omniscient may at first seem restraining because it only
presents one or a limited number of character s thoughts and feeling. However, the use of first person
narration in Cathedral and the use of limited third person perspective in The Handsomest Man
Drowned in the World, is effective because both provides a deeper insight into character s feelings,
thoughts, and opinions. These choices of narration also aid a reader in relating to the characters, and
helps convey the central theme of the story.
First person narrators are the characters who have very limited knowledge about other characters and
convey the story in the perspective of I and we. In Cathedral, Carver uses the first person narration to
reveal information about the narrator s personality. The opening scene of the story makes it apparent
that the

Reflection On Al s Student Support Assistant
The event took place whilst AL s student support assistant (SSA) was out at a meeting during a
morning session. As a TA, I was asked to look after AL during this time to monitor his behaviour and
to provide support.
It was during our morning mathematics session whilst the teacher was asking a question to the group
to see if they could come up with a way to solve them on the interactive whiteboard, when this
incident happened. AL was sat next to EM on the carpet and the teacher asked the pupils to discuss
with their talking partner what strategy they could use. AL and EM were both working and talking
sensibly together and there were no other problems. When the teacher requested feedback from the
group, EM quickly raised her hand to answer however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also asked to have more information about the behaviour management policy and strategy in school
in order to improve on my own practice. I felt I needed a bit of support to help me understand my
responsibility and role in school a bit more to be able to deal with situation like these in the future.
The DFE (2016) states that behaviour policies within school should be understandable and clear for all
members of staff to comprehend. I have now read and asked questions about the behaviour for
learning policy at school and I feel a lot more confident with how to deal with challenging

Is Ross A Pluralistic View On Inherently Good Things And...
Ross has a pluralistic view on intrinsically good things compared to hedonists that have a monistic
view on intrinsically good things (Skelton, 2010). Ross argues that there is not only one intrinsically
good thing, but that there in fact are four intrinsically good things: virtue, pleasure, justice, and
knowledge. There should be more than one intrinsically good thing because there can be exceptions to
pleasure as the only intrinsically good thing, which is also why a prima facie good thing is an
important aspect to intrinsically good things and the values of human beings.
Hedonists believe that there is only one intrinsically good value, which is pleasure. Anything that
leads to pleasure is good for humans and ought to be sought. However, Ross disagrees with the fact
that there is only one intrinsically good thing and instead argues that there are four intrinsically good
things, which describe different situations where a thing can be intrinsically good and how they can
overlap and interfere with one another. Ross does not believe in the monistic theory of value but in a
pluralistic theory of value focusing on these four points.
The first value to Ross is the disposition of virtue and action. It is a character trade as well as a moral
action leading to a moral goodness. Ross further expands on this theory by focusing on action and the
desire to do one s duty as well as the desire to creating something good. Further the desire to create
pleasure for others as well is

Nursing Students As A Nurse
Question In nursing schools around the world, nursing students, in particular, are known for being
pushed to the brink. It s a simple technique, considering that you re preparing them for careers where
they are on their toes day in and day out, catering to the needs and well being of others all the while
managing the high demand of a post secondary education. Sure, we all have deadlines and things to do
in a day, but are we pushing them too far? Are nursing students becoming too stressed? Why? And
how do we fix this? Or are we just weeding out those that can t handle the stress and are not prepared
to handle a career as a nurse? Rationale This is an important question in our society as the world is
gradually needing more and more nurses present in hospitals, emergency crews and long term care
facilities. Not everyone, though they think that they are able, can handle the stressful day to day
challenges of being a nursing student and, eventually, a nurse. As described in our online class,
biological stress is a physiological reaction to stressful events. For many students, especially around
the months of November and December, as well as March and April, the amount of homework begins
to pile up as midterms come to an end, and, final exams grow closer and closer. As such, our brain
perceives the accumulation of essays, final exams and deadlines as stressors. I believe that this is an
important question to answer as though there are stressors in the everyday working lives

Anger Manifestation Psychology
The American Psychology Association defines anger as an emotion characterized by antagonism
toward someone or something you feel has deliberately done you wrong. Anger can also be a good
thing. It can give you a way to express negative feelings or motivate you to find solutions to problems.
Conversely, brain damage in specific areas may cause anger manifestation to be different as certain
parts of the brain are responsible for specific functions.
The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is responsible for cognitive processes. It is a region in the frontal
lobes toward the top and side. Meaning that it is responsible for executive functions. The DLPFC aids
in decision making. It is also important in decision making. The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex ... Show

It is located behind the eye sockets that receives projections from the dorsomedial nucleus of the
thalamus (Kolb Wishaw). The OFC acts as a central role in a wide range of emotional and social
behavior. Additionally, it also plays a part in eating.
Moreover, the amygdala is structure within the medial temporal lobes of the brain (Kolb Wishaw). It is
part of the limbic system and is responsible for emotions and aggression. Furthermore, the amygdala
functions to control the fear responses. The Amygdala is linked to the formation and retention of
emotional event memories.
The aforementioned anger is identified as a strong negative emotion can be further understood through
the James Lange Theory of Emotion. This theory was developed by William James and Carl Jange
(Kolb Wilshaw). The basic principle of this theory is that physiological arousal activates the
experience of emotion. The theory suggests that the physiological change is primary and the emotion
is then experienced when the brain reacts to the information received (Kolb Wilshaw). When people
get angry, they are physiologically affected first before the anger emotion takes

Hispanic Immigration And The United States
Hispanic immigration to the United States stems primarily from uniquely developed push pull
migration mechanisms in which interplay of national, regional, and global economic developments,
the history of U.S. military and foreign policy in the Western Hemisphere, the checkered history of
international border enforcement and interdiction efforts, and, not least, the aspirations of Latin
American migrants and potential migrants themselves (Gutierrez). In other words, migration from
Latin American to the United States shouldn t have been consistent, however, there are several factors
that triggered massive waves of such.
The first major wave of Hispanic migration to the United States was in 1848, which was a result from
the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The newly acquired lands of the United States hosted a population
of about 75,000 100,000 and the U.S. Government offered blanket naturalization to the former
Mexican Citizens. After the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, Mexican immigration to the U.S.
average[d] 3,000 5,000 persons per decade, with the exception of the California Gold Rush, where
around 10,000 Mexican miners migrated to California, all totaling to about 100,000 Mexicans in the
U.S. by the end of the 1900 (Gutierrez). However, historical migration statistics for this period are
inaccurate because of inconsistent enumeration techniques, changing methods of ethnic and racial
classification in the U.S., and the constant movement of uncounted thousands of

The Facts About Educational and Roth IRA’s Essays
The Facts About Educational and Roth IRA s
In 1997 great things came into play for the taxpayers. The Tax Reform Act of 1997, which was inacted
by the IRS, allowed single taxpayers and married taxpayers a considerable amount of tax relief for the
Educational and Roth IRA s. Individual Retirement Accounts, also known as IRA s, are accounts
opened in an individual s name only and provide tax deferred savings for retirement. The
contributions may be fully deductible, partially deductible, or nondeductible.
All IRA s have the same basic characteristics that enable customers to save money while gaining
benefits that may include tax deferred savings and tax deductions. An IRA is a product in which
customers place additional products ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also with the Traditional IRA there are certain taxes which become due after a certain age. After age
59 1/2 income tax is due on earnings and the original contributions are withdrawn tax free
(smartmoney, the ira super page, 2000).
In 1998 an additional way for individuals to save for retirement was introduced to the public as a Roth
IRA. These Roth IRA s are a terrific tax break, especially for individuals previously shut out of the
deductible IRA game because their incomes were too high. Here s why. Unlike traditional IRA s, Roth
contributions are nondeductible. But the earnings build up tax free (SmartMoney, you wanted to know,
2000). Another great point about the Roth IRA is the fact that any withdrawals are free of federal
income tax under certain circumstances. To be free from federal tax the Roth IRA must have been
open at least five years and your age must be 59 1/2 or older. To be eligible for a Roth IRA you must
have an adjusted gross income (AGI) between $95,000 and $110,000 for single filers and between
$150,000 and $160,000 for joint filers. Also with the IRA you are not able to contribute more than
$2,000 annually per person. With the Roth IRA there are no taxes due if funds are held in the account
for at least five years and you are at least age 59 1/2. Original contributions can be withdrawn

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Banquo And Macbeth (Scotland) All of a sudden three shadows appeared from the darkness. Thunder, lightning, there was a bang. It was a cold, stormy night when Macbeth and Banquo were riding back to Dunshishane and had a strange encounter. Three strange looking witches appeared to the two men and made some predictions that would change their lives forever. Macbeth and Banquo had been riding all night on their way home from battle when suddenly three figures appeared out of the storm. When the man first saw these figures they were frightened. The witches had strange beards, pruney fingers, and chapped lips. Banquo and Macbeth did not know why the three witches were approaching, but they soon found out. When the witches reached the two men they began to prophesize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Controlling The Borders Of The United States And Mexico Controlling the borders of the United States and Mexico has always been a dilemma that seeks attention and needs a new, innovative way to reduce the amount of immigrants crossing the border illegally. Many attempts have been made by current presidents as well as previous presidents who have had different views from each other and are still unable to solve the hurdles of controlling the border. Mai Ngai makes the struggle known by stating that the previous attempted laws that have been put in place to solve the problem will end in another failure. She calls them inhumane and hopes to give immigrants a chance for citizenship. Although I Agree with Mae Ngai s Idea of putting in a system that stresses the principles of flexibility and fairness, however I see faults in her view point of welcoming immigrants to the country to work. On the other hand I do not think that all immigration should be cut off entirely, as that may cause negative effects on the America s economy. Mai Ngai mentions that the United States One size fits all rule favors northern and western European immigration and is a restriction on densely populated countries like Mexico. If this law were to allow a higher percentage of immigrants to be documented and allowed in the United States, then negative effects would ensue in places near the border like Texas. When the population increases rapidly it will be harder for police enforcement and may cause an increase in pollution and poverty. This is something UTA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Effects Of Civil Disobedience For a country to be recognizable as a nation it must consist of population, sovereignty, a governing body, and a defined territory. In a federal government like the United States, the people exist to run the government; however, the government exists to ensure that the people are under control and are free from anarchy. The government also exists to ensure that itself remains under control from becoming tyrannical. The United States government is a two party system made up of republicans and democrats. These party members become state legislators, governors, national congressmen and women, and the president of the United States and his or her cabinet. These are the people who everyday try their best to formulate laws which will help keep the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of these demonstrations have been uncivil and have had very negative impacts on the country by further pushing the wedge of divisiveness between classifications of American people. Most of these demonstrations are in protest of our newly sworn in Commander in Chief Donald Trump. Many of these specific protests have turned to riots where the protestors turn violent and harm others with differing beliefs and break into and loot businesses. That is unethical disobedience which should not be tolerated. Another protest which was a negative representation of civil disobedience was the Million Women March which occurred the day following President Trump s inauguration. This march was exclusive, somewhat violent, and consisted of very limited vocabulary. In Washington, D.C., the pro life feminist group New Wave Feminists were removed from the march by the people who claimed to be pro woman. In D.C., there were some people dressed in right wing representing attire and were physically harmed by the tolerable and pro woman protestors. At many of these marches across the country and the world, people chanted vulgar words and expletives. Another example of very unjust disobedience was the demonstration by the students of UC Berkeley just last week. Berkeley students in the 1960s performed the peaceful Free Speech Movement on campus. Now the students of this publicly funded college are almost showing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Disadvantages Of Phonology INTRODUCTION In India the current scenario is changing very fast, it is absolutely critical that every child has the fullest opportunities to become an accomplished reader. It is important that every member of society should able to read and write. Without these skills, a person will have to face enormous social, personal, and economic limitations in today s complex and information flooded world. In the current situation, demands for accurate reading writing skills are greater now than at any previous time in history. Phonology, broadly speaking, is that sub discipline within linguistics concerned with the sounds of language . More narrowly , phonology proper is concerned with the function, behaviour and organisation of sounds as linguistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The process of reading development has different levels of phonological awareness within words: syllables, onsets and rimes, and sounds. Good readers look for familiar letter patterns as one strategy when attempting to decode or spell unfamiliar words they use familiar sound chunks from known words, not just individual sounds (Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981). Thomas Gunning 1974 reported that students look for pronounceable word parts .This chunking / grouping of sounds makes the reading and writing process much more effective and efficient. This letter pattern learning is based on familiar syllable or rhyme patterns as well as sound clusters and individual sounds. This ability helps child to find out inside words for syllables, rhymes, and individual sounds. Child has to segment, blend, and manipulate syllables, onset and rime, and sounds of a particular word; this ability makes the child successful in using letter sound knowledge effectively for reading and writing (Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981; Maclean, Bryant, Bradley, 1987). The phonological awareness skills of segmenting and blending are the most highly correlated with beginning reading acquisition (Snow 192). Students who may be at risk for reading difficulty often have poorer levels of phonological awareness than others (Stanovitch Cunningham, Cramer, 1984). Although related, phonemic awareness is different from auditory discrimination, phonetics, and phonics. The young child has the ability to notice, mentally grab hold of, and manipulate different sound smallest chunks of speech (Hodges Harris, 1995; Tunmer, Herriman, Nesdale, 1988; Yaden Templeton, ... • 8. Intelligent [UNK] Pavilion Analysis The Intelligent Hospital™ Pavilion was presented at Orlando s Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2014 conference. The concept of an Intelligent Hospital™ started in 2009 as an initiative from the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in Health Care Consortium (Frisch, 2014). Its purpose was to promote and seamlessly combine education and technology into an environment that can enhance patient care by having live demonstrations utilizing the latest technology. Five different types of hospital rooms including ICU (as seen in the video), emergency department, cardiology suite, labor and delivery and a step down unit were featured in the Intelligent Hospital™ Pavilion along with an intelligent pharmacy. The first type of technology mentioned in this video to provide the proper environment in the ICU and used in the ICU at the Intelligent Hospital™ was Switchable Privacy Glass, also known as eGlass. eGlass provides privacy for the patient along with infection control compared to curtains or double pane glass improving patient s ICU experience. eGlass can be easily switched from clear to opaque white. • 13. Why Stewardship Is Important Stewardship is one of the most vital aspects of living a good and holy life. Stewardship is a way of living. There are four important factors to living a life of stewardship. These factors are receiving the gifts of God with gratitude, cultivating the gifts from God responsibly, sharing them lovingly in justice with others, and standing before the Lord in a spirit of accountability. Stewardship is an extremely important component of all lives. One important part of stewardship is being grateful of the gifts we receive from God. Whether people like it or not, one thing is definite: technology is not going anywhere. Having grown up in the midst of the digital revolution, technology was going to be a part of my life, and it most definitely has. No matter if it is the Internet, computers, cell phones, tablets, video games; I have been exposed to all of them. However, of all the pieces of technology I have used, the one I cannot live without would have to be my laptop. This year has opened my eyes to how important it is to have a nice laptop. Whether I am taking notes in class, doing research online, typing a paper, surfing the web, or Skyping my family back home, I am always using my laptop. Sure, I still use my cell phone a lot, but I honestly do not use social media on it as I used to. So really the main purposes for my cell phone are what they should be for; making phone calls and sending texts. If I did not have a laptop, it would make going to school more challenging, I would spend much more time at the library using their computers and could not enjoy lying in bed watching my favorite show on Netflix. Of course I could handle not having a laptop. However, after completing my first year away at school, my eyes have been opened to the importance of having one, and I have seen how dependent I am on mine. However, an unmistakable concern with the role of religion and values penetrates much of his work. Contrary to the tradition before him, Nietzsche launches vicious diatribes against Christianity and the dualistic philosophies he finds essentially life denying. Despite his early tutelage under the influence of Schopenhauer s philosophy, Nietzsche later philosophy indicates a refusal to cast existence as embroiled in pessimism but, instead, as that which should be affirmed, even in the face of bad fortune. In Twilight of the Idols, Nietzsche suggests in several places, that the world is falsified when dictated by the tenets of dualistic philosophies, with emphasis on Christianity. How the True World Finally Became Fable, a section in Twilight of the Idols, is subtitled The History of an Error , for it supposes to give a short rendering of how the true world is lost in the histories of disfiguring philosophies that posit otherworldly dualistic metaphysics. • 19. Tragic Heroines In Greek Drama In ancient Greece, societal conventions and norms permeated all aspects of life. The arts were especially influenced by the ideals and beliefs of society. Gender was especially regulated in everyday life, something we see reflected in many art forms. The ancient Greeks were extremely influential in both the visual and dramatic arts. Throughout the development of these styles, we see how society s established gender norms permeated the works of artists and playwrights alike. This is especially true in the depictions of dramatic heroines. Women from famous legends and myth were popular topics of study in the arts, but this does not mean they were spared from gendered expectations and roles. This paper will study representations of Greek tragic heroines in Athenian drama and on vase paintings. Through case studies of Alcestis, Medea, Electra, and Clytemnestra, I will see how perceptions of these women consistent or varying across the different art forms, how they upheld expectations of decorum, and how they are shown as upholding or challenging gender roles. By examining the intersection of theatre and vase painting, we can have a better understanding of how Greek society viewer these tragic heroines and the themes connected to their narratives. It is important to acknowledge the time frame we are looking at for both the texts and vases. If anything remains after deducting all expenses, it is divided proportionately among the underwriter and syndicate members depending on the amount of securities each underwrote. One of the lead underwriter s first agenda items (usually before any significant expenses have been incurred) is to draft a letter of intent. Indeed, an important aspect of the letter of intent is to protect the underwriter against any uncovered expenses in the event the offer is withdrawn either during the due diligence and registration stage, or during the marketing stage. Thus, the letter of intent contains a clause requiring the company to reimburse the underwriter for any out of pocket expenses incurred during the process. Another important aspect of the letter is the gross spread or the underwriting discount. In most cases, the gross spread is 7% of the proceeds (see Chen and Ritter, 1998 for an excellent discussion of the uniform size of the gross spread). • 28. William Bridges Transition Model Managing Transitions by William Bridges is a well constructed text written on Change Management. Bridges begins by expressing the clear distinction between change and transition , with emphasis that change and transition are not interchangeable terms, but completely separate processes. The concept, according to Bridges, is simple: Change is situational, it is eventful, visible and tangible. Change is the WHAT. Transition is psychological, a continuous process that happens over a span of time, it is internalized by people. Transition is the HOW. Transition is internal, it is what happens to the person mentally as they process the change. Change is situational: the move to a new site, the retirement of a founder, the reorganization of the roles on the team, the revisions to the pension plan. Transition is psychological: a three phase process people go through as they internalize and come to terms with the details of the new situation that the change brings about. Bridges says that these phases have no sequential order of occurrence and the people will go through transition at their own pace. It is not uncommon for an organization to be in more than one phase in the transition process at a given time. This simply depends on how each team has handled the change, some people may have already started the Neutral Zone while others are still lagging behind in the Ending phase. Peter Singer And John Arthur s Views On Famine And Affluence Peter Singer and John Arthur s views on Famine and Affluence All living things need four basic elements for survival: food, water, shelter, and fire. There are portions of the world that have difficulty finding some or all of these four basic elements for survival. The United States is the top affluent country in the world, which often creates issues regarding morality. America is known as the land of opportunities where someone could attain a job to afford housing, food, warmth, and so on for their families and themselves. The fact that Americans are able to afford to supply themselves beyond the essentials puts us in a position that can be disputed: should we supply for others who cannot attain basic elements for survival? In a piece by Peter Singer entitled, Famine, Affluence, and Morality, Singer argues that Americans should prevent atrocious situations to arise but, we also should not sacrifice something of equal importance while doing so. Moreover, in the piece by John Arthur, World Hunger and Moral Obligation: The Case Against Singer, Arthur disagrees with Singer; he believes that we should help the poverty stricken but, it is not morally imperative to do so. The main point Singer is trying to show his audience is that we should try to prevent unfortunate circumstances to arise for others but we should do so without losing something of equal importance to us. With increasingly more students drinking alcohol, what was once just a casual drink can quickly turn into binge drinking. This behavior has many consequences for not only the student, but also the public. By being resilient and working together as a community, we all could make it easier to combat this problem of binge drinking in college students in Iowa City and the troubles that arise from it. Binge drinking is defined as the consumption of alcohol that raises a person s blood alcohol concentration in a short amount of time. This usually means five or more drinks for men and four or more drinks for women within a two hour time span. Although most college students are not able to drink alcohol legally until their junior year, studies have shown that about four out of five college students drink alcohol before the legal age of twenty one. Of these college students who drink, about half of them engage in binge drinking. Binge drinking increases the risk of alcohol poisoning, a condition that could result in death. This level of drinking has also been shown to increase the risk of committing suicide and/or being a victim of sexual assault. Between 1.2 and 1.5 percent of college students say they have tried commit suicide and more than 97,000 college students are sexually abused as a result of alcohol or drug use. Climbing through the ranks may help to create a servant leader, though it is not necessary. Bitter In The Mouth Analysis Race in the South has always been a major topic within the canon of southern literature ever since John Smith s discussion of Native Americans in The Generall Historie of Virginia. The majority of this ongoing conversation on race has revolved around African Americans, white people, and Native Americans. However, in Bitter in the Mouth, Monique Truong challenges these stereotypical ideas of race in the South, namely assumptions on how race and outside appearance impact cultural identity and personal ties to southerness. Her primary strategy of doing this is the structure of the paper, where she keeps Linda s race a secret for the first part of the novel before exploring it in depth during the second half. Within this larger structure, she uses the juxtaposition of place to contrast southern aspects of Linda s identity with northern culture and highlights stereotypical cultural markers of southerness such as dialect and food within Linda s identity. With these strategies, Monique Truong uses the unique point of view of Linda Hammerick, who is racially Asian but culturally southern, to challenge the reader s assumptions of how race affects cultural identity and to expand understandings of what makes someone southern in today s cultural landscape. The idea of southerness in Bitter in the Mouth needs to be addressed before the concept further can be analyzed within this paper. The South is a complex and diverse cultural and geographic region of the United States. Furthermore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Character Analysis Of The Giver The Giver: Analyzing Characters and Topics The character in the story that I was most fascinated by was the Giver. This character has many admirable qualities. He is resilient against the painful and hard memories he has seen and he is loving. He and Jonas are the only two characters in the story that are even capable of loving. While reading this story, I felt as though the Giver and Jonas were lucky because they get to understand and feel love, but on the other end of the spectrum, they experience pain and great sadness. The other characters in the story get to be blissfully unaware of the pain and suffering of the past. The first trait that I mentioned above, resilience, is why I like the Giver s character so much. The quote that exemplifies this is, The worst part of holding memories is not the pain. It s the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared. I ve shared them with you, Jonas said, trying to cheer him up. That s true. And having you here with me over the past year has made me realize that things must change. For years I ve felt that they should, but it seemed so hopeless. Now for the first time I think there might be a way (Lowry 1993 Ch. 20 p. 154 155 para. 9 11). This shows the Giver s resilience. He has been lonely because he had these memories, some that were very painful, and no one with which to share them. He saw pain and love and somehow lived with the burden of this knowledge. He continued to carry the burden of being the Receiver while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Abortion Should Not Be Illegal Essay Abortion is widely debated across the world and in 1973 Roe v. Wade would start an issue with ethical and legal issues. There are multiple cases arguing why it should or shouldn t be lawful to go through with this procedure. Women should have the right to get an abortion as It is her rights to decide if they aren t able to be able have a child, the woman shouldn t have to rely on anyone else, she should be able to make this decision as they have to carry it for 9 months and endure the physical pain. Abortion should not be illegal because it is justifiable in cases of rape, or when the woman has mental health or financial issues. In the case of rape, it is unjustifiable to say that a woman has to carry a baby when she is forced into intercourse with a man who the woman does not please. For those who say that abortion is so inhumane, why doesn t one simply look at the act of rape as disgusting as someone would look at abortion. The victim is going through enough being forced without choice to have a child if she consumes, so why make her carry the baby for 9 months knowing that the perpetrator has given her this child. I don t think that the women should have to be mentally viable for this child or have to take care of a child that is forced upon her own will. Having a child hurts very much, why put a victim of rape through more pain then she has to endure? Abortion isn t illegal in other countries for more serious issues why should America make it illegal? Someone with mental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Analysis Of Cathedral And The Handsomest Man Drowned Point of view is an integral tool that is used by authors to express an individual s feelings, emotions, and thoughts throughout the story. It gives the reader an understanding of a character s development. The first person point of view is limited to one character as it draws the reader into the mind of one character s thoughts and emotions. Third person narration may be omniscient or limited. The third person omniscient tells the story in which the narrator is aware of the thoughts and feelings of all the characters, while limited third person is restricted to the thoughts of certain characters. The use of the first person narration and third person limited omniscient may at first seem restraining because it only presents one or a limited number of character s thoughts and feeling. However, the use of first person narration in Cathedral and the use of limited third person perspective in The Handsomest Man Drowned in the World, is effective because both provides a deeper insight into character s feelings, thoughts, and opinions. These choices of narration also aid a reader in relating to the characters, and helps convey the central theme of the story. First person narrators are the characters who have very limited knowledge about other characters and convey the story in the perspective of I and we. In Cathedral, Carver uses the first person narration to reveal information about the narrator s personality. The opening scene of the story makes it apparent that the ... • 47. Is Ross A Pluralistic View On Inherently Good Things And... Ross has a pluralistic view on intrinsically good things compared to hedonists that have a monistic view on intrinsically good things (Skelton, 2010). Ross argues that there is not only one intrinsically good thing, but that there in fact are four intrinsically good things: virtue, pleasure, justice, and knowledge. There should be more than one intrinsically good thing because there can be exceptions to pleasure as the only intrinsically good thing, which is also why a prima facie good thing is an important aspect to intrinsically good things and the values of human beings. Hedonists believe that there is only one intrinsically good value, which is pleasure. Anything that leads to pleasure is good for humans and ought to be sought. However, Ross disagrees with the fact that there is only one intrinsically good thing and instead argues that there are four intrinsically good things, which describe different situations where a thing can be intrinsically good and how they can overlap and interfere with one another. Ross does not believe in the monistic theory of value but in a pluralistic theory of value focusing on these four points. The first value to Ross is the disposition of virtue and action. It is a character trade as well as a moral action leading to a moral goodness. Ross further expands on this theory by focusing on action and the desire to do one s duty as well as the desire to creating something good. Further the desire to create pleasure for others as well is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Nursing Students As A Nurse Question In nursing schools around the world, nursing students, in particular, are known for being pushed to the brink. It s a simple technique, considering that you re preparing them for careers where they are on their toes day in and day out, catering to the needs and well being of others all the while managing the high demand of a post secondary education. Sure, we all have deadlines and things to do in a day, but are we pushing them too far? Are nursing students becoming too stressed? Why? And how do we fix this? Or are we just weeding out those that can t handle the stress and are not prepared to handle a career as a nurse? Rationale This is an important question in our society as the world is gradually needing more and more nurses present in hospitals, emergency crews and long term care facilities. Not everyone, though they think that they are able, can handle the stressful day to day challenges of being a nursing student and, eventually, a nurse. As described in our online class, biological stress is a physiological reaction to stressful events. For many students, especially around the months of November and December, as well as March and April, the amount of homework begins to pile up as midterms come to an end, and, final exams grow closer and closer. As such, our brain perceives the accumulation of essays, final exams and deadlines as stressors. I believe that this is an important question to answer as though there are stressors in the everyday working lives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anger Manifestation Psychology The American Psychology Association defines anger as an emotion characterized by antagonism toward someone or something you feel has deliberately done you wrong. Hispanic Immigration And The United States Hispanic immigration to the United States stems primarily from uniquely developed push pull migration mechanisms in which interplay of national, regional, and global economic developments, the history of U.S. military and foreign policy in the Western Hemisphere, the checkered history of international border enforcement and interdiction efforts, and, not least, the aspirations of Latin American migrants and potential migrants themselves (Gutierrez). In other words, migration from Latin American to the United States shouldn t have been consistent, however, there are several factors that triggered massive waves of such. The first major wave of Hispanic migration to the United States was in 1848, which was a result from the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The Tax Reform Act of 1997, which was inacted by the IRS, allowed single taxpayers and married taxpayers a considerable amount of tax relief for the Educational and Roth IRA s. Individual Retirement Accounts, also known as IRA s, are accounts opened in an individual s name only and provide tax deferred savings for retirement. In 1998 an additional way for individuals to save for retirement was introduced to the public as a Roth IRA. These Roth IRA s are a terrific tax break, especially for individuals previously shut out of the deductible IRA game because their incomes were too high. Here s why. Unlike traditional IRA s, Roth contributions are nondeductible. But the earnings build up tax free (SmartMoney, you wanted to know, 2000). Another great point about the Roth IRA is the fact that any withdrawals are free of federal income tax under certain circumstances. To be free from federal tax the Roth IRA must have been open at least five years and your age must be 59 1/2 or older. To be eligible for a Roth IRA you must have an adjusted gross income (AGI) between $95,000 and $110,000 for single filers and between $150,000 and $160,000 for joint filers.
