1. Pen Mightier Than Sword Essay
Crafting an essay on the proverbial theme "Pen Mightier Than Sword" presents a unique
challenge, demanding a delicate balance between eloquence and depth of thought. The phrase,
often attributed to Edward Bulwer-Lytton, carries a profound implication – the power of
words surpassing that of physical force. Yet, elucidating this concept requires navigating through
the intricacies of language, history, and philosophy.
Initially, one must delve into the historical context, exploring instances where the written word
played a pivotal role in shaping the course of events. This historical analysis requires meticulous
research to uncover examples that adequately illustrate the potency of pens over swords.
Simultaneously, one must avoid oversimplification, acknowledging that the dynamics of power
are multifaceted.
Navigating the philosophical terrain is equally challenging. Delving into the works of thinkers
like Voltaire, who espoused the supremacy of intellect over brute strength, adds a layer of
complexity. Drawing parallels between the written word and its impact on societal change
necessitates a nuanced understanding of the human psyche and the transformative potential of
ideas.
Moreover, tackling the counterargument – instances where force seems to prevail over words
– requires a diplomatic approach. Acknowledging the limitations of language in certain
situations while maintaining the overarching thesis demands finesse. Striking this balance is akin
to a tightrope walk, requiring a careful choice of words to avoid misinterpretation.
Furthermore, crafting a compelling narrative involves weaving a coherent and engaging essay
structure. Transitioning seamlessly between historical anecdotes, philosophical reflections, and
counterarguments necessitates a keen sense of composition. The challenge lies not only in
presenting information but in ensuring that each section contributes cohesively to the
overarching theme.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic "Pen Mightier Than Sword" is an intricate task that
demands a keen understanding of history, philosophy, and rhetoric. Successfully navigating
through the complexities of language and thought requires finesse and a nuanced approach.
Nevertheless, the rewards lie in unraveling the profound implications of the proverb, showcasing
the enduring influence of ideas over mere force.

4. The Cold War was a Big Chicken Match
The cold war was a long war lasting 45 years but was never actually any fighting.
The war was between two national super powers the United States and the Soviet
Union. The war was one big chicken match seeing who could build the biggest
bomb the fastest. The big argument was between communism and democracy. The
USA supported Democracy and its freedoms. Democracy is basically freedom, you
may do as you please and make your own decisions. You can be a bartender or a
CEO your fate lies in your hands and not the governments. Also the biggest perk to
democracy is the right to vote. You can vote on you countries leader vs. a king or a
prime minister. The people of democracy have a say in the government. The USSR
supports Communism. Communism is led by a prime minister and gives the people
no choices. You may not choose who leads your country. The government decides
your future you have no say in your job or your pay. Everything is decided for you
like you re a toddler. Most of the world today in democratic (including the USSR) and
communism is dying out. Both of these supper powers used the Domino Effect to
spread their choice of government. The domino effect is the belief that if one country
switches to democracy or communism all surrounding countries will follow.
Wisconsin Senator McCarthy thought there were many communists in the USA
government. McCarthyism is how the senator wrote down 205 names of possible
communists in the government and drove all around the country

The 200 Year Old Man: How Nathaniel Hawthorne Maintained a 17th Century Puritan
Allegory
Nathaniel Hawthorne, born Nathaniel Hathorne until he added a w to his birth name
years later, was a prominent American Novelist that lived during the 19th century.
Hawthorne was considered a dark romantic, and often undertook the mission of
exploring the darker side of humanity in his short stories and novels. (Wright 3)
Hawthorne descended from an ancestry tracing back many generations full of devout
Puritans. Puritans maintained a unique perception of the natural world; His
forefathers concept of wilderness was an important part of their religious life, and in
many of Hawthorne s tales, nature can be perceived as an active agent for both ...

An elder, gravely injured man named Roger Malvin, and his younger, less severely
injured counterpart Reuben Bourne, are halted on their retreat as Malvin is too
weak to continue towards civilization. Bourne is forced to desert Malvin,
abandoning him below a mass of granite, rearing its smooth, flat surface, fifteen or
twenty feet above their heads...a gigantic grave stone, upon which the veins seemed
to form an inscription in forgotten characters. (Hawthorne) The large stone over the
two men has often been assumed to represent the stone tablets of the Old
Testament. (Wright 201). Nearing the conclusion of the story, the now husband of
Malvin s daughter Dorcas and father of one, Bourne sets out on a hunting trip with
his son Cyrus. Bourne, following a rustling of leaves in a nearby thicket, blindly
fires his rifle into the brush in hopes of killing a deer. Dorcas hurries eagerly
towards the sound of the gunshot in hopes of finding Cyrus has downed his first
deer, but instead stumbles upon her husband standing over the lifeless corpse of her
son. The thicket is a symbol of deception, introduced by the devil to trick Bourne.
In April of 1835, three years following the publishing of Roger Malvin s Burial,
Hawthorne publishes Young Goodman Brown, another piece that bursts at the seams
with symbols of Puritan culture. The story follows a young man named Goodman
Brown, who is journeying into the forest late one evening. Upon leaving his wife,

8. Comparing The Song Believer And In Raymond s Run
Never Give In You are the first person to run across the finish line, how would you
feel? A fictional character in a short story named Squeaky is a person who has
done this every single time she races somebody.. She is a very determined young
girl who strives to become the best runner no matter what other people tell her to
do or think of her. Her mother has always wanted her to wear a satin sash... (blah
blah blah) But Squeaky as a girl will never gives in on stereotypes. Even if it is her
own mother. Squeaky is the protagonist of a short story called Raymond s Run
written by Toni Cade Bambara. She lives in Harlem in the 1960s, and thinks that
winning is everything; yet she thinks that she is being prevented from the best
runner she can be just by her mentally disabled brother. The song Believer and
Raymond s Run share the same theme of not being able to be stereotyped. In the
song believer and in Raymond s Run there are many themes and character traits that
they both share. Such as, how Squeaky does not let herself be stereotyped, how she
is open about opinions, serious about running, and last but not least how she does
not other people tell her what she has to be/ what she is. They share the same theme
by generalizing the idea that the main character of the story do not get stereotyped

I chose to do my paper on being a Air Traffic Controller, and what Air Traffic Control
because it seems like a job in aviation that I would be interested in. The pay is good
and overall it seems like a good job and field to go into.
Air Traffic Controller
Air traffic controllers direct the movement of air traffic, to make sure that aircraft
stay safe distances apart. Air traffic controllers have many duties such as, issuing
landing and takeoff instructions to pilots, controlling ground traffic, help directing
the movement of aircraft in air and on the ground, and etc. Air traffic controllers
work in control towers, approach control buildings, or en route centers. Some are
located at airports and others are not. Air traffic controllers with 20 years of
experience are able to retire at age 50. Controllers must retire at age 56. Most air
traffic controllers work full time. The median annual wage for air traffic controllers is
$122,530.
To become an air traffic controller, you must be a U.S. citizen, pass medical and
background checks, get a good score on the Federal Aviation Administration pre
employment test, complete a training course at the FAA Academy, pass a physical
exam each year and a job performance exam twice per year and pass drug screenings.
Air traffic controllers must hold an Air Traffic ControlTower Operator Certificate or
be qualified. They must be at least 18 years old, speak English, and comply with all

10. Henry Ford
Henry Ford was a man of great importance because he revolutionized the assembly
line, created the Model T, and he is well known for his revolutionary vision, rather
than the profit made on his automobiles. Ford introduced the 5 dollar an hour wage
at the same time he perfected the assembly line. He was able to reduce the
assembly time of a Model T from 12 and a half hours to just 6 hours. Ford also made
the automobile cheaper by mass producing it with the assembly line. Henry Fordis an
interesting person because he made many contributions to modern day industry such
as the automobile industry, electronics industry, and heavy equipment industry.

costly to manufacture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every day since Ford made a cheaper automobile, the auto industry has changed in
the biggest way possible. The long term effects of this are that most people on the
earth today are driving an automobile. Ford has become a role model because he
changed the face of the auto industry by creating an automobile that most people
could afford, and wasn t seeking profit for it either.
People in the years following Ford s development of the affordable automobile
reacted by buying Ford s cheaper invention of the automobile. Rather than just the
rich driving the automobile, now most people were driving the automobile. People
rejoiced Ford s solution for the expensive automobile, even after they laughed at him
for developing the Quadricycle. People bought Ford s automobile so much that in
the blink of an eye, Ford already sold 20 million.
Ford wanted the automobile to be affordable to all, not just the rich, and if Ford
hadn t have take the stand, then the automobile may have just stayed in the grasp
of the elite. The automobile may have also been made affordable, but by another
person. If Ford hadn t have taken the stand, then automobile prices would probably
be really high, where they would only be available to certain classes of people.
Nobody at all would be able to afford an automobile if the price didn t fit the budget

12. Roman Culture Depicted In Ridley Scott s Gladiator
In Ridley Scott s movie Gladiator, much of the storyline is based on facts about
what life was like in the Roman Empire. After the death of the much beloved
emperor Marcus Aurelius, the reign of the five good emperors came to an end.
Emperors were a major part of Rome s history, civilization, and rules. Although every
factual story that Hollywood gets ahold of usually gets fantasized in one way or
another, this one gave a decently accurate depiction of Marcus Aurelius, gladiatorial
training and shows, Roman military, as well as depicting the battles that the Roman
army fought. Things such as the relationship between Aurelius and his son Commodus
, the main character Maximus, and Commodus and his sister Lucilla s relationship

They were held in amphitheaters throughout the Empire and were often seen as
not only a social but also political gathering. The most famous and largest
amphitheater was the Colosseum, which could hold up to 50,000 audience
members. This public slaughter of human beings was seen as a form of
entertainment and a way to get people s mind off of stressful things. These games
were known to be extremely bloody and terribly gruesome. The movie represents a
pretty good depiction of what a real gladiatorial show would look like. The
Colosseum was used for other entertainment purposes outside of gladiatorial shows
such as mock naval battles depicting glorious victories in the name of Rome. To
this day we do not have any insight on how the Roman s could have flooded the
Colosseum and kept all of the water inside of it to host these events. In gladiatorial
shows, the gladiators that fought were criminals or slaves that were trained in
combat at special gladiatorial schools. There are only a few scenes in the movie
that show the gladiators training, but they show the teamwork that was used in
some games in order for the gladiators to live. Most of the time, gladiators were
used as sitting ducks. They were set up against huge, burly men who could kill
someone with their bare hands. These games were held from dawn to dusk and also
sometimes featured wild animals that had the capability to tear gladiators to bits and
pieces. Not only did animals face humans, but they were also paired up to fight other
wild animals until there was only one left standing. The animals that were most
commonly used in the games were buffaloes, bears, bulls, tigers, and lions. Also,
they did not always give gladiators weapons to defend themselves with; quite often
they sent them out to fight with absolutely nothing. During one of the games that
Maximus is involved in, he has to kill several tigers and roman soldiers with only one
sword and
13. The Importance Of City Budget Cuts
City budget cuts have a dramatic effect on neighborhood associations. Cutting
services and closing fire stations will have far reaching ramifications. Once these
cuts are made, they are seldom ever given back, and if they are it is with great
difficulty to the constituents. There are a number of actions that a neighborhood
association can take to combat these types of cuts and express their concerns. One
of the first things that can be done is to petition the elected officials and ask for
them to follow a different course in trying to balance the budget. Use of a petition is
an acceptable way to demonstrate the importance of the issue and documents in
writing the issues and expectations as well as giving a tangible list of supporters to the

As a physical education teacher, I will not use the roll out the ball approach in my
classroom. The federal government has set a new curriculum forth. The different
physical education plan is called, The New Physical Education . This new
curriculum has to do with more exercise time and teaching lifetime sports. Lifetime
sports are things like: Golf, Archery, Running, Aerobics, Dance, etc. These lifetime
sports are sports that everyone can use throughout their life. Also, instead of
teaching kids to tough it out and do their push ups, The New Physical Education
tries to make exercise more fun, stressing anaerobic activity over body strength.
This anaerobic exercises help to reduce fat and cholesterol in your body, to make
you a more physically fit individual. Being physically fit will also help with your self

My class will revolve around the Progressive philosophy. The education will be based
on needs and interests of students through helping them understand the importance of
being healthy and; education by learning through hands on learning and games;
experimental learning through trying new games. I want to try to stay away from
grouping by ability though because I want every child to feel wanted. I don t want a

17. Definition Of Joy Essay
Joy Expresses Itself What does Joy mean? This word that has been used for almost
one thousand years, borrowed from the old French, and originally from late Latin,
is defined by dictionaries in a few words sentence all related to pleasure and
happiness. Joy is a felling, a state of being, who s abstract nature gives it a wider
significance. The American writer Joseph Campbell expressed, Find a place
inside where there s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain. Mother Teresa, for her
part said, Joy is prayer; Joy is strength: Joy is love; Joy is a net of love by which
you can catch souls. Certainly, joy is relative to rejoice and delight, and has a
different, and personal meaning for everyone. In my opinion, Joy is one of those
deep satisfactory feelings, that spontaneously arise from our interior. I think it is
possible to cultivate it as well; when one smiles, has good thoughts about life and
others, fills their soul with hope and gratitude, joy will grow in one s heart as a
result. Despite the fact that it has an abstract meaning, joy can be seen physically
manifested. People who are joyous, look like spring flowers, not exited, but deeply
happy, peaceful, and grateful. This state of well being has very different origins and
manifestations, depending on beliefs and feelings.... Show more content on

This feeling goes beyond one s will. It is like a perpetuation of that moment of
silence, which many people refer to as an angel has passed. When joy is present,
there is no worry about ourselves. Specially those, who most of the time, try to be
conscious of their facial expressions, when in joy, and owned by its radiance, forget
about it. We are pleasure filled and blissful, showing a typical expression of
innocence and calmness. From my personal experience, there have been three
anecdotic moments to exemplify it; they involve my cat, my brother, and
18. Close Relationships Between Bacteria And Archaea
. Bacteria and Archaea are split into separate domains because bacteria include all
pathogenic prokaryotes, as well as nonpathogenic prokaryotes that are found in soil
and H2O. What are also found in this domain are photoautotrophic prokaryotes.
Archaea includes prokaryotes that do not have peptidoglycan in their cell walls.
Prokaryotes are mostly related to eukaryotes than they are to different prokaryotes.
This is when they were split into two domains.

19. A Story Of A Short Story
The knock at the door startled Dana. She set the Bible she was reading aside,
stood, and approached the door. Mrs. Destiny? A mans voice sounded. The woman
opened the door. An aged man stood before her, with an envelop in his hands. I m
afraid... he sighs We are... truly sorry for your loss. Mr. Bryan was a good solider,
always there when you needed him. He placed his hand on her shoulder, and handed
Destinythe envelope. She stood there, the morning sun beating down on her. The
wife s hands shook as she struggled to open the letter. It had been hours after the
anonymous man had given her her husbands death notification. She would now be
a widow. Destiny wept for many hours, and realized her children were still
sleeping. She would have to tell them. She kneeled to the ground, her hands
gripping the carpet viciously, as she wept and turned to the Lord for answers. The
day following, the unexpected happed yet again. In an mostly uninhabited area of
land in the scorching Arizona temperatures lay two houses. One, belonged to a
wed couple Destiny and Bryan. The other, A young couple with an infant. They
lived countless miles from any city. Disaster struck in the form of a sandstorm.
After digging their way from the basement ruins, the family looked upon what was
left of their house. Dana, what Bryan used to call his wife, made sure her children
were okay. Nick, Haley, Destiny said studying her neighbors house remains, stay
here and check the car. Dana walked over to Joyce and Bobs house. She saw they
were all okay, and walked a short distance back to her own children. Nick steps

back over to her neighbors as they approached. Our vehicles are useless. We can t
stay here, not with Grey. Grey began to cry as Joyce cradled him. Dana quietly
asked the Lord for aid as she marched to what was once her house. She scummed the
remains for anything useful. A similar book, her Biblecaught her eye. She picked it

towards a city. Haley tap her mother on the shoulder. I have this bottle of water with

20. Cultural Values
Each person develops in some type of culture. It is the environment that we live in
that determines what we learn, how we learn it, and the rules for living with
others. My family and I are Peruvian. That would make me Hispanic in the United
States. My origins are straight from Peru. I came to the United States when I was
12 years old, so my beliefs and traditions haven t changed from when I was still in
Peru. There are rules that are transmitted from one generation to the next and are
often adapted to the times and locations, and these rules are absorbed by children as
we develop and learn about home country traditions, customs and beliefs. These
customs will still follow us throughout your life. Although a person can be broken

I knew everything was going to change. But it was then when I came to know my
culture values. It took perhaps the combination of being in another, foreign culture
and being away from my own to make clear to me the impact of culture on my life.
I began to know the value of Familismo. I started to value more than before the close
relationship I had with my relatives. I even realized that being a country that gives
many opportunities could allow me and my family to aid my members of the family
experiencing financial problems, unemployment, or other issues.
When I came to the United States I also came to put in practice the value of
Simpatia ( kindness ) as well as the value of Respeto. I was taught to value respect,
and be kind to others. For example when my parents, elders or other relatives need
care I am responsible to care for them as just as they took care of me in my earliest

his political career. He had co signed bank notes totaling more than $100,000.00 to

was expected to repay the bank loans. McKinley did not have the money. His

Republicans again supported McKinley and he was nominated as the Republican

22. Analysis of Zoot Suit Essay
The book Zoot Suit has symbolic significance for Mexican Americans and tells
about the riots during World War II. The Sleepy Lagoon Murder was one step in the
fight for the rights and respect of Mexican American s. This riot involved young
servicemen and civilians who clashed in the streets of the city with young Mexican
Americans who wore the noticeable quot;Zoot Suit. quot; At their height, the riots
involved several thousand men and women. In the end no one was killed and only a
few were injured but even today, the Zoot Suit riotsare remembered for their
significance.
Throughout the play there are underlying theme that suggest different ideas. The
themes I will discuss is how Mexican American men are portrayed in relation ... Show

The Zoot Suit represents a changing society that the general population isn t ready
to accept it so they blame the crimes and the murders on those who dare to vary
from quot;normal. quot; This is going on during World War II and many of the
Mexican Americans feel like they have no place fighting the war and that the real
war is the war between soldiers with their tight button up collars and the hang loose
Zoot Suiters who are mostly Mexican American.
Pachuco asked Henry, quot;Off to fight for your country? quot; (p. 30) Henry
replies, quot; Why not? quot; (p. 30) Pachuco then states, quot;Because this ain t
your country. Look what s happening all around you. The Japs have sewed up the
Pacific. Rommel is kicking ass in Egypt but the Mayor of L.A. has declared an all
out war on Chicanos. On you! quot; (p. 30) This quote brings up the issue relating
to whether WWII should be fought by Mexican Americans or not. Pachuco, in this
scene, seems to feel that it isn t a war to be fought by the Mexican American but it is
a time to begin a war to gain respect for this culture.
Pachuco says, quot; The city s cracking down on pachucos, carnal. Don t you read
the newspapers? They re screaming for blood. quot; (p. 29) This quote implies that
the press is exaggerating the stories it tells in order to sell more papers. The press
may have contributed to the Zoot Suit Riot with their influence on public beliefs. He

23. The Physics in Lacrosse
Lacrosse is a team sport that originated in the St. Lawrence Valley area, around
1546. It is played with a small rubber ball, a long stick with a sort of basket at the
end, and padding (it is a contact sport). The objective of the game is to shoot the
ball into the other team s goal, using the stick to pass, cradle and shoot. At first, the
game was played on a distance of even several miles, and anywhere between 100
and 100000 players in a single game. The teams are now composed of ten players
each, 3 of them are offense, 3 defense, 3 midfielders, that can go anywhere on the
field, and one goalie, which is the heart of the team. In this essay I will focus on the
physics that stand behind lacrosse, and how companies that make lacrosse gear use
our knowledge and understanding of forces to make padding and helmets that are
safer, and sticks that are made for different kinds of play styles (contact defense,
precision, fast offense...).
Head of the Lacrosse Stick Field Lacrosse Head Box Lacrosse Head Native American
Lacrosse Head
The design of a Lacrosse head impacts the game in a great way, because the pocket
of the Lacrosse stick affects how the ball comes out of the stick. During a shot the
kinetic energy of the shaft is transferred into the head, which in turn stretches the
mesh (elastic energy), and transfers it to the ball as k. energy. The shooting strings in
the mesh (the 3 big ones that look like shoe laces) turn the force the ball has and turns
it into angular
24. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ Essay example
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ
No other event in history has been the object of as much scrutiny and criticism as the
resurrection of Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Christ is the basis upon which all
Christianity stands. If the resurrection never happened, then there would be no
Christianity, as the Apostle Paul says in 1
Corinthians 15:14, And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so
is your faith. This is why opponents of the Christian faith have tried to attempt to
discredit the Biblical account of the resurrection. Of the many theories of the
resurrection, the Biblical account is the only historically reliable and possible
explanation of the resurrection. The historical reliability of the Bible is ... Show more

This first test has basically shown that the text which people have in their possession
is essentially the original text. The second test is the internal evidence test. The
internal evidence test proves whether or not what was recorded is credible and to
what extent. Dr.
Louis Gottschalk, former professor of history at the University of Chicago, states the
ability of the writer to tell the truth is helpful in determining credibility. The ability to
tell the truth is related in two ways. They are the witness s nearness chronologically
and geographically (McDowell 51 52). The
New Testament accounts were written by men who were eyewitnesses or related the
story from eyewitness accounts. Chronologically speaking, the Gospels were all
written while people, other than Christians, who had been eyewitnesses to the life of
Christ were still alive. For the most part the non Christian eyewitnesses were
opponents of the faith. The resulting effect of this would be the necessity for the
disciples to relate the life of Christ accurately due to the fact that any inaccuracies
would have allowed opponents to discredit
Christianity right from the beginning (McDowell 52 53). The third test to prove
historical reliability is that of exterior evidence. Gottschalk defines external evidence
as conformity or agreement with other known historical or scientific
facts...(McDowell 54). Other writers are a great source of exterior

The two poems I chose to connect with are Anne Bradstreet s, In Memory of My

s, In Memory of My Dear Grandchild Elizabeth Bradstreet, Who Deceased August,

tremendous grief of her granddaughter s death. Bradstreet simply observe nature
where plants and fruits grow and die in a comparison with her grandchild s death

describes different times in accordance with God s will. Bradstreet compares
nature to the death of her granddaughter who was taken at an adolescent age. Being
a Puritan she believes in God s divine will and purport. In her poem she express the
difficulties she face with her death. In the first stanza Bradstreet verbally expresses
her goodbye s to her grandchild Elizabeth. Later she utilizes nebulous words such as

CAM Therapeutic Modalities
In the pursuit of health and well being, many Americans along with the world, have
used Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) over the past decade. In July
30, 2009, National Health Statistic Reports demonstrated on a test conducted in 2007
that about 38.3% of adults (83 million persons) and 11.8% of children (8.5 million
children under the age of 18 years) have used Complementary and alternative
medicine (NHSR, 2009). In this paper, I will define the terms alternative medicine,

NCCAM s mission is to explore CAM practices using rigorous scientific methods
and build an evidence base for the safety and effectiveness of these practices. (NIH,
2008)
Define the terms alternative, complementary, and integrative in relation to medicine
and clarify how these terms are different.
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is a term used to describe medical
products and practices that are not part of conventional medicine used and practiced
by western or allopathic medicine. Our conventional medicine is practiced by medical
doctors, doctor of osteopathic medicine and allied health professionals, such as
psychologists, and registered nurses. Complementary medicine means no more than
in addition to your standard care. To elaborate by standard I mean standard to the type
of illness for example hypnosis is a standard part of psychiatry, but not one of a cancer
treatment. A good example of complementary medicine include, herbal remedies, and
naturopathic medicine. Alternative medicine is medicine that claims to heal and is
based on historical or cultural traditions, rather than on scientific evidence. Integrative
medicine is a combination of practices and methods of alternative medicine along
with conventional medicine.

28. Classical Liberalism And The Enlightenment
Paper #1: Classical Liberalism
Classical liberalism is the transition from focusing on government to focusing on the
rights of individuals. This transition came about during the time of the Enlightenment
in the eighteenth century. The Enlightenment period was when man started to have
more faith in his own reasoning. People began to look for evidence on their beliefs
themselves and to find proof on these beliefs, so that they could come up with their
own opinions on things. One way that they did this was by going back and rereading
Roman and Greek texts and retranslating these texts. This new way of thinking also
caused the Protestant Reformation to occur. Some of the most influential
Enlightenment writers were John Locke, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, and the
people of France s National Constituent Assembly. John Locke was one of the most
influential writers during the Enlightenment period, and was the first Enlightenment
Thinker . Locke is the author of the Two Treatises and believed that every person
was born with natural rights such as: life, liberty, and property (Locke). These rights
were meant for everyone, and not just the nobility or wealthy. Locke uses references
from the Bible throughout the Two Treatises stating that God created man without
any state of inferiority (Locke). This disproves the idea of Divine Right given from
God that many countries in Europe had been participating in. John Locke also
discussed the importance of The Beginning of

30. Difference between Text Messaging and Abbreviations
Social media sites such as Twitter only allow a limit of 140 character per tweet.
This limits the amount of words you can use in a tweet. This forces the users to get
their ideas across in the shortest way possible. For many, this results in the use of
text talk. This is a type of shorthand and it creates a whole new language consisting
of abbreviations. LOL, BRB, SMH and TTYL are a few examples of the
abbreviations from this text talk language, theses terms are used every day
amongst teens. These text terms add more to a sentence and in text more then just
a simple abbreviation for a word or phrase. Abbreviations as short has three letters
can add a whole new tone to what is said over a text massage. LOL (laugh out loud)
for example is used to add a joking or playful tone to a messages almost like a type
of punctuation and in some cases it replaces a punctuation. This abbreviation
doesn t always indicate literal laughter either. This is how text talk and normal
abbreviations vary. Text talk is surly changing the way we talk and communicate
with people in our every day lives. theses text short hand are becoming a language
on its own. Now the question is how does this writing form change the way we
communicate with people. We no longer have to ride on horse back for miles just
to deliver a single letter. However, we now have cell phones and laptops, and with
these social media. Writing letters was once an semi social activity between two

found in the mouth and throat. The organism may cause infections in other locations,
such as nails, skin (diaper rash), vagina, and the gastrointestinal tract. There are many
types of fungus that live in the human body including candida. Candida is a type of
yeast that normally lives in small amounts in areas like your mouth and belly, or skin
without causing any issues. The immune systemand the body s bacteriausually keep
Candida in balance. When this balance is interrupted, it can result in an overgrowth
of the Candida fungus, causing it to get infected. The infection is called Candidiasis.

Since Jurassic Park, the first movie in the series was released, it had blown the
socks off of the filming industry. It was a disruptor of the animation field. Life like
dinosaurs. Jurassic World did just the exact same thing in 2015. Not many films
had yet to master the art of integrating and animating airborne characters flawlessly.
This movie series had yet again set an example of the latest technology. The
animation is everything in a movie s success or failure. This animation makes up
for many left out bits and pieces that otherwise would leave many confused. Per
tradition, the Jurassic Park series has little care for the building of characters. The
developers put their money in action. Just as Chris Nashawaty perfectly put it,
viewers are completely satisfied as they gawk at raptors on the prowl... and our old

cinema junkies that can appreciate a modernization of a blast from the past.

that the video games are the reason for the up rise in teen violence. There are many
theories of why there is an up rise of teen violence but the leading theory is that
video games twist their minds into believing that it is okay to illegal actions. While
people say it is the video games fault, I say it is the mental state of the person
playing the video games that makes them do these things. If it was the video
34. Childhood Emotional Abuse Essay
Although all therapists are aware of the childhood emotional abuse issue, it is
possible that only few therapists understand the scope of the issue. Emotional
maltreatment is harder to detect than other forms of abuse because it is more subtle.
When Child Protective Services (CPS) conduct family assessments, it is the hardest
form of abuse to prove because parents are very open about the topic and emotional
abuse does not leave any physical evidence behind. However, it certainly influences a
child s self esteem, promotes the feeling of guilt, insecurity, and creates the inability
to form stable relationships during adulthood. Although some behavioral disorders are
related to emotional abuse, it is not possible to predict it correctly... Show more

However, all forms of child abuse carry emotional consequences because the child s
psychological and emotional development inevitably suffers from all forms of abuse.
An intervention model that would focus on emotional abuse could also focus on
preventing other forms of abuse because violent behavior towards children often
comes from the same underlying causes, and most risk factors for child maltreatment
are associated with caregiver, family, and environmental factors (McDonald, 2007).
With this in mind, a possible solution would have to include early detection, but the
intervention would most likely focus on factors that cause all types of child abuse.
Despite the widespread occurrences of all forms of abuse, emotional neglect or
maltreatment are practically impossible to detect while they occur and impair the
child s normal development and social integration. Emotional abuse includes includes
verbal, mental, and psychological maltreatment of children, and it is frequently
overlooked by the community and mental health professionals who do not define
emotional abuse as a suitable factor for diagnostic purposes (as cited in Schneider,
Baumrind, Kimerling, 2007). In reality, emotional abuse is frequently used in many
families, it occurs in several worldwide cultures, and it carries significant
consequences that should not be overlooked. Emotional abuse

Three Leadership Principles from the Colin Powell 18 Leadership Principles
After reading all 18 of Colin Powell leadership principles, three of the principles
stood out that I could identify with. The first, Being responsible sometimes means
pissing people off.
The second principle, The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day
you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help
them or concluded that you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership. I also

with your families. Corollary: Surround yourself with people who take their work
seriously, but not themselves, those who work hard and play hard. Colin Powell s
first principle was something I deal with daily. Working in food service for over 24
years you learn that you cannot make everyone happy. Since 2011, I have been the

for all the Indiana Army National Guard units and submit their requests to the state
approved contracted vendor. The vendor has a timeline to which they can process
the orders and work with their vendors to get ration items into their warehouse. The
State Food Service SOP specifies the timelines for ration requests when using the
Army Food Management System (AFMIS). If a unit does not meet the time
requirements for our state vendor, then I will disapprove the request. I will give the
unit limited choices for other types of rations, usually Tailored Operational Training
Rations (TOTM), similar to MRE s. Some First Sergeants and company

their life is no longer worth living, and as a result takes away their dignity and right
to autonomy. The decriminalization of physician assisted suicideis fundamental in
order to achieve and maintain the equality, autonomy, and dignity of all individuals....

They were later on joined by Lee Carter (Kathleen Carter s daughter) and her
husband Hollis Johnson who accompanied their mother to Switzerland in 2010
where she was legally able to get a doctor assisted death. The plaintiffs (Gloria
Taylor, Lee Carter, Hollis Johnson, Dr.William Shoichet, and BCCLA) argued that
self determination or having the right to make choices about how you want to spend
the last days of your life is an essential part to the life, liberty, and security of the
person and that the legislation infringes on section 7 and 15 of the Canadian charter
of rights and freedoms (that isn t justified under the principles of fundamental justice
section 1) and therefore is invalid. They conveyed that the prohibition infringes on the
right life, liberty, and security of terminally ill patients because it leaves them with
only two options both of which are uncompassionate and inhuman. The first option is

40. Airport Security Research Paper
Many years ago airport security was not even an issue. People felt secure and safe
and rarely worried about being searched. As time went on, the prevealance of
terrorism became an increasing issue. There began more acts of terrorism by
threatening and holding hostages on board commercial planes. As these acts
continued, the government as well as citizens became vulnerable and an airport
safety procedure was implemented as a way to ensure the safety of the United
States. The implemented procedures over the years included a check and scan of
all carry on and checked baggage, body scans, hire government airport employees,
and a strict list of carry on items. This made travelers feel safer as it decreased the
ability of terrorist to commit... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thirty years ago, a man named Martin Annis invented a fully body X ray scanner
(Nickisch). After 9/11 and a few terrorist s attacks, airports finally became interested
in this scanner. The person behind the push for heightened security is Michael
Chertoff, the head of the Department Homeland Security (Nickisch). Today he is
the cofounder of the Chertoff group, which is a risk management and security
consulting company and is one of the biggest manufactures of body imaging
screening machines (Nickisch). Michael Chertoff represents some of the
manufactures that make this technology. So perhaps his interests in body scanners
and security is not just about protecting the American people. He seems to be
abusing his relationship with the public by pretending to be a public servant and
how these scanners are going to make us safer. He stands to benefit because he is
getting paid by the manufacturing companies to go all over the television network
saying these scanners are the solution to security. Flying now is even more
bothersome then ever before with the new procedures after 9/11. These body
scanners became nicknamed Nude o scopes for the intrusive naked pictures they
create. These body scanners see through clothes but not through the body itself,
leaving the possibility for some to hidemalicious items internally. I am sure there
are ways around this system to try and detonate bombs during the flights. Do they
really need to go so far as to be looking at pictures of
41. OPEC Powerpoint Presentation
Discussion of OPEC PowerPoint An effective PowerPoint presentation uses
language in a pithy and compelling manner. The more complex the subject, the
more pointed the prose of the presenter should be. Unfortunately, the PowerPoint
entitled OPEC by Jeremy Hall takes an already complex subject matter (an
overview of the OPEC organization) and renders it even more challenging to the
listener by presenting the material in a dense, verbally heavy manner. The first
slide of the presentation does not visually convey what OPEC actually is it merely
presents a map of the world highlighting the member countries. Unless someone
knows that OPEC is a Middle East based oil cartel, with some member nations in
other areas, this graphic will seem meaningless. A graphic depicting something
related to oil is essential to convey the nature of OPEC to the reader. Also, the
graphic should be more visually arresting, to grab the viewer s attention. There is
also no following title slide conveying the author s name, date, and reason for the
presentation. PowerPoints are ultimately visual guides. The speaker fleshes out in
words the visuals and punchy, bullet pointed lists of words and facts on the
PowerPoint. However, the first slide entitled Background Information reads like a
transcript of speaker s notes, rather than a visual depiction of the subject matter
designed to support the speaker s lecture. There also is no picture to underline the
material being presented. Instead of writing:
42. Compare And Contrast Squid And Octopus

Squids vs. Octopus The ocean animals I am going to compare are octopus and squid.
I am comparing these two things because they are unique ocean creatures. I think that
it is interesting how they both catch their prey, and how they live. It is also really
interesting to learn what they eat and how they do things.
The first thing I am comparing is an octopus to a squid. An octopus has 8 tentacles,
and uses all of them to catch their prey. They live in dens on the seafloor. Octopus
lose their outer shell and get a new one back. They also have a round head. Octopus
lifespan is 3 5 years. It has two eyes and four pairs of arms, and like other
cephalopods, it is bilaterally symmetric. It has a beak, with its mouth at the center
point of the arms. They feed mainly on worms, crabs, whelks and clams. The giant
Pacific octopus feeds on shrimp, clams, lobsters, and fish, and even larger prey,
such as sharks and birds. It has a beak, with its mouth at the center points of the
arms. Octopuses are ocean creatures that are most famous for having eight arms and
bulbous heads. They squirt ink to deter predators; and being boneless, they can
squeeze into (or out of) tight spaces. The water depth in which they live ranges from
the shallow, coastal waters to about about 330 feet deep. The... Show more content on

Octopus and squid lose their hard outer shell. Squids and octopus both have 8
tentacles lined with suckers. They both catch their prey with their tentacles. Some of
the main differences with squids and octopus is octopus live in dens on the seafloor,
while squids live in open oceans. Octopus use their eight sucker lined arms to capture
their prey and move about on the ocean floor. Squids have eight arms lined with
suckers and two specialized tentacles that they use to reach out and capture
