Essay On President
Writing an essay on the topic of the president can be a challenging task, as it requires a
comprehensive understanding of the subject, extensive research, and the ability to articulate
thoughts coherently. The difficulty lies not only in presenting factual information about the
president but also in weaving a narrative that captures the significance of their role in the
political landscape.
To begin with, one must delve into the historical context, examining the evolution of the
presidency and the impact of different presidents on the nation. This necessitates sifting through
vast amounts of information, ranging from political speeches to policy decisions, in order to
provide a nuanced perspective.
Moreover, crafting an essay on the president demands a critical analysis of their leadership style,
achievements, and challenges faced during their term(s) in office. It's not merely about listing
facts but about interpreting their significance and understanding the broader implications for the
country.
The challenge intensifies when addressing the complexities of a president's character and
decision-making. Balancing a portrayal that acknowledges both successes and failures while
maintaining objectivity requires finesse. The writer must navigate the intricate web of political
ideologies and public opinions surrounding the president, presenting a fair and unbiased account.
Furthermore, the task involves synthesizing information from diverse sources, including
historical documents, scholarly articles, and contemporary news reports. This not only demands
time and effort but also a discerning eye to distinguish between credible and unreliable
information.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the president is a formidable task that requires a meticulous
approach, analytical thinking, and a deep understanding of political nuances. It is an endeavor
that goes beyond mere information regurgitation, demanding the ability to construct a
compelling narrative that sheds light on the complexities of presidential leadership.

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
All Quiet on the Western Front is a short book, but remarkably deep. More than 50
years after its jolting prose, haunting poetry, and powerful truths slashed their way
into the consciousness of a worldwide readership, All Quiet still stands at the
forefront of a host of novels on that most tragic recurrence in the history of human
experience: war. All the aspects of trench warfareare present excitement, boredom,
horror, hunger, fear, dirt, alienation, imminent death, futility, to name a few. All
Quiet has a pervasive sense of uselessness, an initially unvoiced but later fully
expressed question of Just what is this war about, and why am I being put on the
line for it? The answer is, of course, nothing, and if All Quiet has but one overriding
message, it is that war is awful, and young people ought not to fight. All Quiet is
not a book which glorifies the German war effort, or portrays soldiers as heroes. In
Remarque s own words, it is an attempt to give an account of a generation that was
destroyed by the war even those of it who survived the shelling. As such, it is brutal
and confronting, but in the best possible way. Anti war fiction has seldom been this
effective, or this memorable for that matter.
All Quiet tells the story of Paul Bäumer, a young man who gets talked into joining
the German army by an idealistic teacher. In short, business like sentences, Paul tells
the reader about his experiences in and around the trenches, plus those of his similarly
Medieval Period in European History
Introduction
The medieval period in European history begins after the fall of the Roman
Empire around 500 C.E., and continued until the early modern period beginning
around 1500. The medieval period is split into the sub categories of early medieval
(500 1000), central middle ages (1000 1300), late medieval (1300 1500), and
followed by the early modern period (1500 1800). At each of these periods of time
important political, economic, social, cultural, religious and scientific changes were
being made in Western Europe.
Early Medieval
The collapse of the Roman Empire led to the emergence of three successor
civilizations; Byzantium, Islam, and Western Europe. The absence of a strong central
government led Western Europeans landowner s ... Show more content on

Elites would provide higher ranking nobles with feudal obligations of warriors, food,
and/or animals in return for their protection or use of the land. After the schism in
1054 with the Byzantine emperor, Christianity was divided into Western Catholic and
Eastern Orthodoxy sects. Urban masses began to challenge the authority of the
church claiming that it no longer addressed the needs of the urban public. Heretics,
like the Cathars and Albigensians, came into existence and spoke out about church
wealth and believed in a dualistic theology. In response, the church instituted
monastic reforms against worldliness and complacency within its ranks. In 1122, the
power of the Papacy began to expand with the Concordat of Worms which was a
compromise between the Pope and the Holy Roman Emperor over lay investiture.
Also during this time, the Crusades played an important role in occupying
professional soldiers. After the Byzantine emperor s plea for help to Pope Urban II
crusading forces were assembled and traveled to the Holy Land. Over the next
hundred years they would be four crusades with the first crusade being the most
successful and the fourth crusade forever splitting Western Catholic church and the
Eastern Orthodox church. As the central middle ages came to an end France and
England evolved into centralized states, while the Pope and the Holy Roman
Emperor were fighting each other. During this period, an important document was

Rhetorical Analysis Of Pamela
2.3 Tropes
Tropes are double signs; they involve the non literal substitution of a new signified
for the usual one. To comprehend a trope, a distinction needs to be made between
what is said and what is meant (Chandler 2007: 135). In this analysis, the photograph
of Pamela represented as meat and the phrases; All animals have the same parts and
Have a heart , are tropes.
Metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche and irony are the four basic tropes (Chandler
2007: 135). Tropes in visual as well as verbal forms can be seen as reflecting our
fundamentally relational understanding of reality. Reality is framed within systems
of analogy. Figures of speech enable us to see one thing in terms of another
(Chandler 2007: 125). For example the words ... Show more content on

In this case Pamela represents the ideal woman, other women are measured by this
constructed ideal, and consequently all women are then seen as consisting of
labelled parts , like Pamela in Figure 1. The segmented body of Pamela portrayed in
this advertisement is problematic, because it objectifies women in general. Instead of
representing a woman s body as a whole , it suggests that women consist of parts .
2.3.3 Irony or ironic statements signify the opposite of their literal signification.
Understatement, overstatement and exaggeration can also be regarded as ironic
(Chandler 2007: 134). In this analysis the image of Pamela Anderson, combined with
the phrase All animals have the same parts can only be seen as ironic exaggeration if
the viewer believes that animals are not equal to humans.
The overall message signified by Figure 1 is unintentionally ironic. If PETA is
against the objectification of animals, and they believe that animals and humans are
equal, then the objectification of women and the body represented in this
advertisement is ironic, as it reflects the opposite of what PETA stands for i.e. the
objectification of all
Comparison Between Roman And Roman Culture
The closer we examine early Christian life alongside ancient Greek and Roman
cultures, the vast differences on how they individually viewed life becomes apparent.
The ancient Greeks and Romans beheld extreme importance in living the good life
with the view of living in the here and now, whereas early Christianitywas
concentrated on living a life for the hereafter. These two drastically different life
views are best revealed through the independent ways in which figures were
depicted and how faith was expressed through symbolism in works of art, in
addition to the way in which religious architecture was arranged during these time
periods. It is most unchallenging to see these radical life view differences when
analyzing works of art, such as sculptures, from these two individual cultures, as the
techniques used to depict figures are highly dissimilar. The statue known as
Augustus of Primaporta displays the Roman life view of living in the here and now
simply by giving the statue a specific identity. Augustus is easily recognizable as he
is realistically, though somewhat idealistically, depicted and is granted with perfect
proportions that follows the rules of Polykleitos Canon. Furthermore, Augustus is
rendered with one foot in front of the other, while one arm is extended forward in a
gesturing motion. This provides him with a sense of movement and liveliness,
making him appear as if he is addressing his onlookers, in the here and now.
Strikingly different, the biblical
Colonel Pyncheon Revenge
In The House of the Seven Gables, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses the Maules witchcraft
as a key to revenge on the Pyncheon family. Many Pyncheon generations later, they
still believe they have control of the Maules because they ended up with the land.
They possess a sense of entitlement because they believe they are becoming close to
millionaires and the Pyncheon inheritors are willing to do anything to obtain the
fortune. The Maules, however, have their secret legacy, guaranteeing them to receive
not only the money, land, and house but also revenge for the years of superiority
from the Pyncheon s.
Colonel Pyncheon wants Matthew Maule s land because of Maule s well, a spring

Some said that he could look into people s minds; others, that, by the marvellous
power of this eye, he could draw people into his own mind, or send them, if he

was what is termed an Evil Eye, and possessed the valuable faculty of blighting corn,
and drying children into mummies with the heartburn. (132) The Maules possess
witchcraft in them, and Matthew uses it on Alice Pyncheon, Old Colonel Pyncheon s
granddaughter.
Gervayse Pyncheon, just like any other Pyncheon, shows greed over the deed and
money. He brings in Matthew Maule to tell him where the deed was, as he once
worked on the house when it went missing. He asks for Alice and he sends her to
him because his will to give up anything to find the inheritance. Matthew ends up
hypnotising Alice and turns her into his slave. Gervayse Pyncheon now cannot obtain
the deed and also loses Alice through greed as a consequence of his.
The Pyncheons possess a never ending curse because of the generations before. The
faults of the beginning generations affect older generations after. The Pyncheons
believe they control the house and will find the land deed, not knowing that a
Pyncheon cannot do such a thing. The Maule s end up with all the land and money
because of the curse put on the Pyncheons. Greed overtakes the family and will not

The Seneca Falls Convention In The 1800 s
Seneca Falls In the early 1800 s, many of the women in the United States were
plain and simple getting fed up with their lack of writes. Men had dominated
everything in the past and they were still continuing to do so. Women were finally
ready to come forward and voice their opinions about how men and women are
created equal. It was now time for women to go out and become what ever they
want to be and not have to worry about the fact that they are females. The Seneca
Falls Convention would soon be one of the biggest victories for women s rights. The
Seneca Falls Convention of 1848, the first women s rights convention in American
history, was an outgrowth of almost twenty years of female activity in social reform.

This is how women let the government know that they wanted the equal rights that
they so much deserved. One point that Elizabeth Cady Stanton makes is that the
man never permitted her to exercise her inalienable right to the elective franchise.
This is very true seeing that women were not even allowed to work because their
place was at the home where they were to raise the family. If women did work for a
part time they would not get even close to the amount of money that males get. She
also states that he has taken from her all right in property, even the wages that she
earns. Women at this time were not allowed to own property. She also states that he
has withheld her from her rights, which are given to the most ignorant and degraded
men, which even includes foreigners. This meant even if you were the smartest,
kindest, and most willing to work hard woman alive, you still would be treated
worse than the least respected man. What all of this means is that at this time
women were be deprived of pretty much every right that they were given by god. The
Seneca Falls was the beginning, which sparked a bunch of conventions that would
follow every year. Eventually it worked, and women started getting custody of
children, and the government was more favorable

The Utopian Philosophy of Shangri La in James Hilton s Lost Horizon
For some people life may not be satisfactory. Life has many troubles including death,
pain, and suffering. It leaves little hope. There are ways in which people can live to
have a good life. This method of how a person should live is viewed differently
thoughout the world. James Hilton represents this combination of ideas and cultures in
the novel, Lost Horizon (1933). This novel tells the tale of four distinctively different
people retreating from a war zone. In their retreat they are kidnapped and taken by
plane deep into the Himalayan mountain wilderness. Little did they know that here in

The mental environment of the people of Shangri La is the search of knowledge.
Platonism, the theory of Plato, maintains that to live the good life, one must first
acquire certain kinds of knowledge. This theory represents the environment of
Shangri La, searching for knowledge. Hilton portrays the Shangri Lite s search of
knowledge through their extensive library which contains the world s best
literature (95). This great asset of Shangri La represents the theory of Plato and
showed that Shangri La is a place abundant is Platonic philosophy. The second
philosophical view aiding in the setting of Shangri La is the theory of Aristotle.
Aristotle believed that the good life is one of balance. The people of Shangri La
also lived this way claiming that our prevalent belief is moderation. (74). The
people are moderately sober, moderately chaste, and moderately honest (75).
Moderation is abundant throughout the setting of Shangri La, and the people claim
that moderation [is], y know the motto of the firm (180), whereas firm represents
Shangri La. This principle makes for a considerable degree of happiness (74). This
relates to the view of Aristotle, that the good life is a life of happiness. The
happiness of Shangri La is portrayed as one of the pleasantest communities, (108)
where the inhabitants are courteous and carefree (108) and where one will doubtless
find great happiness (198). Even in happiness there is moderation. Shangri La
The Crime Of Measuring Crime
Measuring crime remains a difficult challenge despite years of research and
reportable crime data. To say this problem has stumped policymakers and law
enforcement professionals is an understatement. Each year statistics and crime data
are collected using numerous means for study and released in public reports. The
merits behind these collections are numerous as are the potential uses for the data. Of
particular consideration are the Uniform CrimeReports and the National Incident
Based Reporting System. While both reports aim to measure the different aspects of
crime, much is often lost in translation when presented to the general population.
First we will examine the Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) and some of the key
characteristics that differentiate it from other reporting methods. The UCR is a
crime measurement system that was established in 1929 by the International
Association of Chiefs of Police in order to provide information at the national level
on serious crimes reported to law enforcement from the state level and lower. This
system was originally published in a guide entitled Crime Reporting: A Complete
Manual for Police. The intent of this manual was to establish reporting criteria and
categories of offenses.
To meet the criteria for this type of reporting the crime must be of a serious offense
and be considered highly likely to be reported to the police. All data reported to this
system is voluntary. Originally, these specific crime types were referred to as

The following work will call your attention to the way in which a playwright and a
novelist deploy key stylistic and dramatic effects and will be complete by means of

the techniques used within the two works will be observed.

This is an interesting point of departure as to whether the happenings of the text are
agreeable or disagreeable. The first standpoint is the thorny issue of suicide in African
culture. The ceremony is that of a social process. Elesin wishes to perform this act
not for personal gain, but as a social experience that will involve his fellow
countrymen as it is his duty to do so. The second standpoint is that of suicide from
a Western point of view. It is seen to have nothing that ties an individual s death to
that of another s in the supernatural world. In accordance with Christianity if a
person commits suicide that is the end of their journey. It is clear that the two
standpoints differ in standing as one sees suicide as a personal act and the other a
communal. The play is certainly fascinating and stimulating, but as for taking a
standpoint on the moral issues involved it is possible to say that despite tradition the
willing suicide of an individual is not something to be celebrated as it is in Death and
the Kings Horseman.

Maze Runner Archetypes
The Maze Runner, by James Dashner is full of a variety of archetypal characters.
Good and bad, they are all very important to developing the story plot. The main
character, Thomas, has many great qualities. Thomas from The Maze Runner, is
the Christ Figure hero archetype because he defies death, performs miracles, and
fights for justice. Thomas defies death by surviving a night in the maze. A feat of
this magnitude had not been accomplished among the gladers . Thomas bolts into
the maze at closing time, when he realizes their friends have not returned. Being in
the maze after it closes is a certain death. While in the maze he discovers a way to
hide from the grievers as others ran. Grievers are the creatures of the maze that no
one has ever survived. If you re close enough to see one your already dead.
(Dashner) The other gladers assumed Thomas was dead, but he used his brain over

Thomas spent in the maze is when he accomplishes another impossible task. For
the first time in glade history a griever was killed and Thomas was responsible for
it. Following the other runner s advice he boldly goes to the next path up in the
cycle. Through another series of challenges to achieve their overall goal: get out of
the maze/glade Thomas proves he is the hero of this story. The biggest miracle is
when Thomas leads the group of gladers out of the maze and back to the real

John F. Kennedy s Moral Lapse
Leaders fail often. The challenges of leadership are often complex and extremely
demanding, which often leads to leadership failure. For most failure leads to a dead
end while for others growth is achieved from failures. From former president John F.
Kennedy s moral lapse to the defeats of Apple founder Steve Jobs, the road to
leadershipcan be devastating. Being a leader is fluid, and involves many unforeseen
factors and traits.
John F. Kennedy as this countries leader helped pave the way for civil rights
legislation, but on the same hand failed many moral obligations as a leader.
Through his personal failures, John F. Kennedy was still able to move forward as
a leader. Also, Steve Jobs was another leader who was able to accomplish many
things as a technological leader, but failed in aspects of his moral obligations as the
leader of his household in the handling of his daughter. Both men had many traits in
common, but they both possessed several basic traits of a leader.
According to North house (2012), for some people, leadership is a trait or an ability,
for others it is a skill or a behavior, and for still others it is a relationship or process
(p. 7). What truly defines leadership is at times difficult to grasp, because many see
leadership in various ways. Being a leader requires a mix of all of the complexities
of leadership, and the views on which leadership qualities are important are shaped by
personal experiences. The text suggests we think about
Patriotism In The Film Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
In the current political climate, anything said against the government is deemed
unpatriotic by certain areas of the culture. Patriotism is bandied about as a
necessity by some, and derided completely by others. But what is true patriotism,
and how necessary is it? The film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, made in 1939,
was originally condemned for being unpatriotic as it showed the ugly side of
American democratic politics at a time where democracies were falling all over
Europe. However, the film presents a different view of patriotismthat supports the
most important part of democracy; the people. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington clearly
demonstrates the failures and problems in American democracy, but paints
protagonist Jefferson Smith as extremely patriotic, illustrating that patriotism is not a
blind stubborn belief that a country is right all of the time, but a wholehearted
passion for making said country a better place. This view of patriotism may have
seemed critical in 1939, but the movie effectively shows how the citizens really are
the most important part of a democracy, and how they can rail against political
corruptionto truly create a better country. When protagonist Jefferson Smith very
suddenly becomes a US Senator, he is portrayed as the perfect example of nominal
patriotism. He has several speeches by Washington and Lincoln memorized, is the
leader of a group of what are basically Boy Scouts, and spends his first day in
Washington DC in awe of the monuments.
The Causes Of Food-Borne Illness
This year, four million Canadians will be affected by a food borne illness, 11 600
will need hospitalization, and 238 of them will die (Thomas et al., 2015). Food
borne illness refers to any illness caused by ingesting food or drink contaminated by
microbes or toxic substances (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017).
Moreover, the foodmarket offers a variety of products to meet customers expectations
and this market must to ensure the food quality, especially when it is related to food
safety. For years, dairy products, processed food and vegetables have been
associated with recalls. In addition, the aliments should be free from pathogens
because they may cause diseases, and some can lead to death. Bacteria such as E.
coli, Listeria, Norovirus, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Clostridium are cited as the
most dangerous food pathogens able to cause significant harm to human health or
even hospitalization (Thomas et al., 2015; Wang Salazar, 2016; Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, 2017). For example, E.coli can contaminate multiple
categories of food including dairy, meats, vegetables and processed food and cause
significant health issues (Zwietering et al., 2016). Listeria is another pathogen that
frequently appears in food poisoning outbreaks. Food contamination may occur at any
stage of the food chain (harvesting, production, farming, storing) or even in people s
homes. (Mani et al., 2017). With the advent of technology and the improvement of
Microbiologytechniques, the detection of pathogens has been improving and
ensuring new guidelines regarding hygiene, food conservation, and manufacturing
process (Arpaia, 2017). By this, it has been vital to developing accurate and efficient
methods to detect pathogens, supervise, and track the food processing chain. Due to
the possibility the food contamination from the farm (harvesting or abattoir) to people
s consumption (finished product and storage), the food production must be regulated
to guarantee the quality of the nutrition (Arpaia, 2017). Therefore, the food producers
and the distributors need to follow some rules to prevent food poisoning because this
is an important threat to human health (Mani et al., 2017). For instance, in

that a person who can put away their desires to accomplish what they need to do is a

but is used to teach lessons. Lessons help a person grow. Throughout Latin American
literature there are many themes. However in Mexican literature, the theme of a

Realizing what bad habits you have and knowing what needs to be changed makes
the process easier. The character in Poet s Epitaph desires a change of himself and
in the poem The Street his past self is gone. Someone behind me also stepping on

actual change of oneself is and can be big. Changing past habits is not easy, but life

Thoreau Transcendentalism
In the early 19th century transcendentalism became a philosophical movement that
arose the ideas of understanding life in the simplest of terms. From Thoreau to
Emerson, they expressed the ideas of nonconforming from society in order to live in
simplicity. Although transcendentalist ideas tend to come and go, society alters the
appeal as the influence of transcendentalismoccurs in many forms today.
Living life in simplicity is a trend set by Thoreau as he goes to the woods to be free
from society s expectations. He desires for everyone to stop living their life so
complicated as they re being consumed by the want of materialistic things Most of the

We see the world piece by piece, as the sun, the moon, the tree, the animal
(Emerson The Over Soul) If we re not open to looking at the truth, then we re only
going to be seeing it piece by piece. We ll never see the full picture unless we re
open to everything even if we disagree with some things. Having this mentality
allows for us to see things from different perspectives. Many are so used to the idea
of following the expectations that are set up by society yet one never takes the
time to do what they want as one is not open to that idea of breaking away. Once
one breaks away and forgets about the materialistic things, that s when one has
figured that they have set themselves free form society. Although change is not
something one would look forward too, however, it s something that society as a
whole need to experience once in their life as it s part of what makes one who they
are. Without seeing these changes one may never get used to the idea of how
advanced everything has become over the years. Although it seems like many aren t
open minded, slowly but surely that thought would eventually change and most
would be more open minded. One of the reasons why society should be open
minded is through the use of living life in simplicity. If one doesn t live life in
simplicity then are they actually living life to the

William C. Williams
William C. Williams once said, I think all writing is a disease. You can t stop it.
This well known poet was born in 1883 and wrote during the modernist literary
movement as well as during the imagist movement. It can easily be argued that
Williams is one of the most important American poets of the 20th century. Although
his work did not gain widespread recognition until the 40 s and 50 s, Williams greatly
influenced younger poets such as, Robert Creeley, Robert Duncan, Robert Lowell,
and Allen Ginsburg. Modernismwas the most influential literary movement in
England and America during the first half of the twentieth century. Representing an
unquestionable rejection of Victorian elegant standards, moral rules, and literary
techniques, modernism was initiated during the opening decade of the century, a time
of widespread experimentation in the arts. The Modernists emphasized the internal
thoughts of a character through the use of such devices as the interior monologue, or
stream of consciousness narrative. The disoriented effects of the era of modern
warfare that began with the First World War lead to such American

In Imagist poetry, the writer does not talk about the themes behind the image; they let
the image itself be the focus of the poem. There were many famous American Imagist
poets, including Ezra Pound, William Carlos Williams, H.D., and Amy Lowell.
These poets wrote free verse and were devoted to clarity of expression through the
use of precise visual images. The first principle of the imagist era was To use the
language of common speech, but to employ always the exact word, not the nearly
exact, nor the merely decorative word. Like Modernism, Imagism was a reaction
against the abstract language and careless thinking of Georgian romanticism. Imagist
poetry aimed to replace unclear abstractions with the exactness of observed detail and

Carl was roughly five six years older than me, and one would think, he should have

wasn t until I had gotten older to really understand what was going on. Carl would
always say to me Don t tell, he ll get in trouble , or don t tell, because my mom
would get mad at me . This lasted until I was around 10, at that point I started to feel
uncomfortable, and weird. I had finally matured enough to understand that I didn t

Inventory Systems Paper
Inventory Systems Summary
Inventory control systems are used so that companies can track materials or
products. Before technology was so readily available, employees of companies
had a harder time tracking inventory. Today one can go into a large retailer and ask
an employee to check if an item is in stock and all the employee would have to do is
check a little hand held device. The four types of inventory systems that Team A
decided to research and discuss were: Advanced Tracking System (ATS), Perpetual
Inventory System, Periodic Inventory System, and Just In Time Inventory System.
Advanced Tracking System (ATS)
Advanced Tracking System, or ATS, is a system that operates standalone or front end
that interfaces with almost any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also well suited for the type of industries where there isn t much processing to
do, so the inventory exists at only one level (for sale) rather than at three levels (raw
materials, work in progress and for sale) (Kulkarni, 2010).
Periodic Inventory System A periodic inventory control is a system with no
continuous record of changes. Inventory is only tracked periodically instead of per
the transaction. At the end of a specific period, usually an accounting period;
quarterly or monthly, the ending inventory is found by a physical count. The cost of
each item is computed and deducted from the sum of purchases and the beginning of
the inventory to calculate cost of goods sold (Business Dictionary, 2010). The
periodic inventory system keeps the inventory balance at the same value that it was at
the beginning of the period. The inventory level is not updated after purchases, for
accounting purposes; this system uses an account called purchases at the end of the
period, rather than debiting inventory.
Just In Time (JIT) Inventory System
Just In Time inventory system known as JIT is one of inventory systems used in
companies to deliver a finished product to customers quickly to reduce the overall
ordering and inventory holding cost (Atkinson, 2005). The system proves to be most
effective for companies that lose money for holding a product in its inventory for an
extended period of time and
Role Of Gladiatorial Sports In Roman Times

Sports During The Roman Time Period During the Roman Times from (31 BCE to
476 CE) sports were both things that many did in their daily life and as well as
Roman Fighting games. Not all Roman games were violent and played by men.
Many Roman kids would swim, ride horses, hunt and fish, play board games during
their leisure time. Sports were very important to the Romans because some had a
religious meaning to them. Gladiatorial games in Ancient Rome and modern sports
have more in common than some would think. Violence has been a key component
to the success of each of these games. Many spectators watched as the Coliseum was
filled with blood from brutal gladiatorial matches. These days, hundreds of people
watch two men fight in a boxing ring. After thinking about gladiatorial games and
looking at modern sports see similarities between the two. The Romans believed that
they inherited the practice of gladiatorial games from the Etruscans who used them
as part of a funeral ritual. The first gladiatorial games were offered in Rome in 264
BCE by sons of Junius Brutus Pera in their father s honor. Even though this ritual
began as a ceremony to honor important men after their death, it began ... Show more

anxiety and social defenses that groups utilize to avoid their tasks and fight anxiety.
In the case study Louise, the leader of the community legal agency, was fighting the
external circumstances to ensure the wellbeing of her agency, but at the same time
she lost connection with her team that affected her leadership. At some pointed she

At the other hand, the expectations of the team are very high as well. The day to
day work with mentally ill clients, referred to our program from psychiatric
hospitals, jails and other community agencies, is extremely challenging for the
staff. They have to deal with a high level of stress as a part of their daily routine,
and operate in very high paced crisis environment. In addition, their job is very
regulated and paperwork instance. The billing that goes through the Medi Cal
insurance is arranged the way that program is financed based on the documented
daily progress notes. That means that if the notes were not completed the program
won t get paid for the provided services. Often it is very hard for employees to
focus and do their paperwork as they have to constantly deal with crisis, and ten take
time for the emotional recovery. It s understandable that team utilizes different forms
of social defenses. They often fight new tasks or avoid doing them. Their expectation
for me is often to support the team by discharging or not admitting difficult clients.
They know that I see their daily struggles with troubled residents and feel lack of

empowering to see how different people think of different ways to help enrich our
society with positive attitudes. I am so honored to say that this class changed my
heart and mind in so many levels. For example, donating blood is such a unique
way to support human lives and somehow society takes this for granted. What I
learned from this project also is that one does not need a lot of time to invest in
helping our city to improve. We were also required to watch and discussed a movie
called A Civil Action where ethics play an important role during the whole film. In
the end, EPA found abnormalities during the lawsuit, and found guilty of multiple

Pollution And Air Pollution
One of the man kinds biggest contributor to pollution is driving cars. Heavily
populated cities, to be exact, are the most to blame for their horrendous living
conditions. The pollution in Beijing has caused the city to be a hazard for anyone
who breathes oxygen. According to an article from Forbes Magazine, tiny
carcinogenic particles known as PM2.5 reportedly at times are above 300
micrograms per cubic meter. The World Health Organization s recommended
maximum exposer is 25 micrograms . Side effects such as early deaths, heart and
lung problems, cancer, diabetes, birth defects plague the millions of people who live
there. In a few years the city could find a simple fix just by switching to electric
vehicles.
The problem of atmospheric pollution due to automobiles is beyond the point of
being a serious issue. Journalist Viola Zhou of the South China Morning Post said
As well as the health risks, rising ozone levels in China are also damaging its rice
yields a problem that could compromise global food security, according to a recent
study led by researchers at the University of California, Davis .
It seems as if the Chinese government might not have the issue under control.
Although they have sent of multiple teams of officials to dozens of cities around
Beijing to try grab hold of the smog problem, pollutant levels have risen to nearly
14% from 2013 2016 (South Morning China Post). According to the online source
The Guardian, in May of 2017 dozens of flights had to be canceled and civilians
were told to stay inside because the air quality was so poor. Li Shuo, Greenpeace s
Beijing based climate campaigner, tweeted Sand storm + industrial pollution =
airpocalypse in the middle of spring, . The levels of the particle PM10 were
reportedly over 2,000 micrograms per cubic gram (Guardian 1). Living a healthy
life is essentially impossible for anyone who breathes oxygen in Beijing. Lung
disease amongst many other variables control the lifestyle there. If a change from
fossil fuel powered machines isn t implemented immediately, the people of Beijing
won t stand a chance.
The option of hybrid cars is not sustainable at this point. The pollution and emission
level is so high, that a drastic change in fuel
Celia A Slave Book Summary
The book Celia, A Slave by Melton A. McLaurin is about the trial and execution of
a slave in Callaway county named Celia. Robert migrated westward to seek cheap
land. He was a widow and had two sons and two daughters who still lived with him.
In 1850 a Missouri farmer named Robert Newsom buys a teenaged slave named
Celia. At the time Robert purchased Celia there was an intense debate about slavery
throughout America. After buying Celia Newsom raped her on the way to his farm.
He would rapeher for the next five years she was his slave. Within the five years on
the farm Celia has two children for Newsom. Celia becomes involved with another
slave on the farm named George. Once George finds out about Celia and her
masters relationship he gives her an ultimatum telling her if she doesn t end it he ll
leave her. While pregnant with her third child Celia tells Newsom s daughters about
their father telling them to tell him to back off because she s very sick. When
Newsom didn t listen to Celia she struck him with a pole and burned his body in her
fireplace. When the familyfound out she was convicted and hanged.

The Role of Costume Design in Musical Theater
Courtney Cox 5 4 10 THEA 1334 Final Paper Costume Design THE ROLE OF
COSTUME DESIGN IN MUSICAL THEATER Imagine a classic Shakespearian
play or Italian opera performed in hip hugging jeans or baggy t shirts; or imagine
the period musical 1776, produced by the wonderful Stuart Ostrow, performed in
the groovy attire of the 1970s. These performances would seem completely out of
place and confusing. One would not be able to grasp the completeness of the story
or have any understanding of the time period, geographical location, or the character
s lifestyles and/or social statuses. As a result, the audience would fail to see certain
emotions or feelings portrayed, character personalities, and would find it very

Defining each character separately allowing the audience the ability to follow a
storyline with a conceptualized look defined prior to a performance was, and is
needed as part of preproduction preparations. Early performers were generally
male, therefore costuming was needed for gender disguise so as to create the
illusion of the opposite sex. In Asia, the men would dress up as women. Young
men also played women in the plays during the 1500s and 1600s. Many of these
young teenage boys were very sickly and often died at a very young age. This was
a direct result of skin eating diseases caused by the white, led based face paint they
were forced to wear during performances; a very sad and gruesome ending to such a
short life. Costuming also helps create other character building imagery such as age.
The leading characters will always have more detail and design to make them stand
out and relate a sense of trust to the audience. Styles and technique have changed
significantly over the centuries but have maintained basic principles of clothing
design yet geared towards pushing the out the character s personality and traits in its
appearance. Many people simply show up to musicals and often take the costumes
for granted and concentrate only the performance of the actors. Many people don t

Sacrifice Of Iphigenia Essay
Sacrifice is a common theme in Greek Mythology. Sometimes a sacrifice is made
for the greater good of a situation, and sometimes the sacrifice is a person. In one
myth, a girl named Iphigenia is sacrificed to gain better results for the Trojan army.
She is sacrificed on a public altar and even her father is willing to sacrificeher to
benefit his soldiers. In The Sacrifice of Iphigenia, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo shows
that as long as nothing happens to them, people do not care what happens to others,
while Iphigenia by Alfred Lord Tennyson shows that death is a hard, terrible, and
painful event.
The Sacrifice of Iphigenia has a tone of misfortune. Iphigenia is best known as the
daughter of Agamemnon who is the leader of Troy s Greek forces. Agamemnon
aggravated Artemis, the god of the hunt, by boasting about his hunting skills.
Agamemnon also kills one of Artemis sacred hares. For this Agamemnon has to
sacrifice his daughter Iphigenia for the favorable winds from the gods. In the
painting, Agamemnon is standing behind the altar where Iphigenia is being
sacrificed. He looks sad and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While in the poem, Tennyson depicts the way Iphigenia feels during the event. Not
that the poem is necessarily about the painting; but is coincidentally an exact
representation of the same events from two different perspectives. In the painting
it shows Iphigenia just sacrificed, and it is more of an outsider s view of the story.
In the poem, it is a look at the situation from one person s point of view, and it
makes you feel more for Iphigenia. In the painting, there are lots of people
standing around watching the sacrifice, and it makes you feel aggravated and
disgusted that people would be there just to watch. The painting made the story
seem almost theatrical or like it was a scene from a play. The poem made the story
seem more real like you are there with her and can feel her agony and
Using Logit And Linear Regression Essay
Using Logit and Linear regression, we attempted to understand factors that influence
students to leave their college or University, their average GPA, and graduating in
four years. We tailor our study to first generation students, in relation to PoC
students. Because much of the differences in college success have been linked to
social class and economic background we have controlled for family income, as well
as race, level of cultural capital and students use of universityservices. Our analysis
of the dependent variables for student success; students decision to leave, average
GPA and four year graduation, reveal that first generation status is a significant factor
in all three. Other variables frequently emphasized in education literature on student
success and first generation status, such as cultural capital and peer support had less
of an impact than indicated in previous research. We analyze each dependent variable
separately for independent variables in Wave 2, Wave 3, and Wave 4. And then look
for relational differences in the impact of independent variables both between
dependent variables and over different waves of the study. We present findings in
which the relationship our dependent variables to independent variables are
significant to the 0.5 level of confidence. Independent variables in our study had
different effects on our dependent variables, with some positive correlations and
some negative. Finding presented below start with those affecting students
Air Pressure In Football Experiment Essay
Air pressure can indeed affect the distance that the football will travel. The data from
the experiment proved that the more air pressure, or the more inflated the ball is,
then the farther the ball will travel. When one tested the lowest air pressure, our
results showed that a flat ball will not travel far at all when thrown at a consistent
speed. When one inflated the ballonly halfway, it traveled significantly farther than a
fully deflated ball. Furthermore, when one inflated the ball to the regulated air
pressure of the National Football League, it travelled farther than both the fully
deflated and halfway deflated ball. The statistics also supported the hypothesis for
this experiment. The averages correlated with the distance that... Show more content

For a football with a pressure of 0.0 kilopascals, the average distance thrown was
3.3 meters, and the median distance was 3.45 meters. For a pressure of 44.8
kilopascals, the average distance thrown was 11.5 meters, and the median was 11.4
meters. The median and mean for a football with a pressure of 89.6 kilopascals was
the same, at a distance of 36.0 meters. This shows that there was minimal error in our
testing.
Also, the modes give clues to the consistency of our experiment. For the pressure
of 0.0 kilopascals, there were two modes, 2.7 meters and 3.8 meters. For 44.8
kilopascals, the mode was 11.4 meters. For a football with a pressure of 89.6
kilopascals, two modes occurred, 36.0 meters and 38.7 meters. This shows that the
trials for testing the distance one can throw a football based on the varying
pressures were fairly consistent. Based on the range of our tests, we also found that
human errors come into play in our results. When the pressure of the football was
89.6 kilopascals, the range was 6.2 meters, so this means that the most errors
occurred at this pressure. Also, the smallest range was 1.8 meters, which was when
one deflated the ball completely, at 0.0 kilopascals. Therefore, this means that there
were minimal errors during these
Essay about Root Surface Caries
Root Surface Caries
Caries can affect any surface of the teeth. The most commonly seen caries are found
on the crown of a tooth, above the cemento enamel junction, it is also possible for
caries to form on the root surface, below the cemento enamel junction. Dental root
caries has received a great deal of attention in the past few decades. A variety of
different patients are at risk for root surface caries. Dentists use several methods of
treatment.
Root surface caries are also called cemental caries, cervical caries, or radicular caries.
(Wilkins) Root surface caries only involves the roots of teeth. The cementum and
dentin located just below the crown of the tooth is involved. No involvement of
enamel is seen with root surface caries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process is enhanced with the presence of gingival recession.(Hammel)
Clinically, root caries appears as a soft, irregularly shaped lesion, either totally
confined to the root surface or also involving the enamel at the cemento enamel
junction. (Flaitz) It is more easily detected on exposed root surfaces. It has been
found that 10% to 20% of root caries lesions are found subgingivally, especially at
the interproximal region. The most common locations also include exposed roots of
the mandibular premolar and molar areas. On a dental radiograph, root surface caries
appears as a cupped out or crater shaped radiolucency just below the cemento enamel
junction. Early lesions may be difficult to detect on a dental radiograph.(Hassan)
Clinical description is very subjective and is based on color, texture, surface
smoothness, depth of the lesion, and distinctiveness of its border. Root caries can
be classified as active or inactive. Active lesions are leathery or soft, and inactive or
arrested lesions are hard upon touch with an explorer. Root caries can vary in color
from black or dark brown to yellowish or light brown.(Wilkins)
Measures that can be taken to prevent root surface caries are just as one would
perform to prevent coronal caries. Oral hygiene is most important. Brush your teeth
at least twice a day, preferably after each meal. Floss your teeth regularly to remove
food particles between your teeth that cannot be removed by ordinary brushing.

The informed consent is a process can be summarized within three main elements
which include information, voluntarily and understanding/comprehension. First, the
researcher has to disclosure of information in informed consent to make sure the
participants have sufficient information about the study. The content of informed
consent must be clear, simple, avoiding technical jargon and providing all important
information to allow the subject to understand the content and ask for any further
question. After understanding of study purposes and process of the study; the
subjects can decide to participate voluntarily in the research or not.
According to the Office of Human Research Protection, there is certain information
required to be included in the informed consent. The consent has to include a
statement indicates the nature of the research project including study goals, study
procedures, participation period and description of treatment that will be used. It
needs to provide a description of risks and potential benefits of the study and if there
is any alternative to participating in the research. Moreover, the researchers should
explain how subject s confidentiality will be adequately maintained. There must be a

Assess the influence of the German army on the successes and failures of the Weimar
Republic by 1933.
The German Army extended significant influence over the Weimar Republic
throughout the period leading up to 1933. The Republic failed to gain the army s
complete allegiance and thus the army remained as an independent state within a
state . The Reichswehr s major influence can therefore be determined to the successes
and failures of the Weimar Republic.
Germany s loss of WWI came as a shock to the entire population, who were constantly
being told Germany had nearly succeeded. However, the German Army astoundingly

Thus, the influence of the German army remained just as strong as it was prior to
the republic. As historian Louis L Snyder wrote, The Republic was...unable to control
[the Reichswehr] or to win its unqualified allegiance. This influence and power that
the army wielded during this period was particularly enabled during the political and
economic hardships within Germany, as well as the impact of the Treaty of Versailles.
While the Reichswehr had no real loyalty to the democracy, they tolerated the new
system as they possessed a fear of instability and the threat of the extreme left.
General von Seeckt, Commander in Chief of the Reichswehr from 1920 to 1926,
made decisions based on the Reichswehr s best interests rather than what was asked
of the democratic state. He refused military assistance in putting down the right wing
Kapp Putsch in March 1920, declaring Reichswehr doesn t fire on Reichswehr .
There was a significant chance that the Weimar Republic could have been overtaken
if not for the call for a general strike, signed by Ebert and SPD ministers. On the other
hand, the army were ruthless in dealing with left wing attacks, particularly during the
Spartacist uprising. The army s right wing tendencies became apparent through the

Evaluation Of The Different Treatment Choices For The...
Evaluation of the different treatment choices for the management of seasonal allergic
rhinitis.
Allergic rhinitis (AR) is an inflammatory condition which affects the membrane lining
of the nose; causing it to become sensitive to allergens such as pollen, dust and animal
dander. During AR, antigens bind with immunoglobulin E(IgE) to form an antigen
antibody complex which then attach themselves to the surface of nasal mast cells;
inducing a cascade of cellular events leading to mast cell degranulation and the
release of histamine via exocytosis. The release of histamine and other inflammatory
mediators on blood vessel and nerve endings results in the symptoms of AR such as
sneezing, itching and nasal discharge (rhinorrhoea). AR which occurs the same time
every year is known as seasonal AR or more commonly known as hay fever .
Avoiding causative allergens is essential in the management of the symptoms of AR;
however, drug treatment is used to alleviate and control its symptoms. This
evaluation will focus on the use of H1 anti histamines, corticosteroids and IgE
therapy in the treatment and management of seasonal AR. (ARIA, 2008)
Treatment options
Drug treatment in the management of AR includes the use of selective H1 anti
histamines, corticosteroids and in persistent, uncontrollable cases, immunotherapy
may be an option. H1 anti histamines and corticosteroids are routinely used in the

Who Is To Blame In A Christmas Carol
A Christmas carol is a traditional story told about an old man as the scrooge of
Christmas. The scrooges name in the story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
goes by the name Ebenezer. Ebenezer the old man is miserly all the time especially
around the season for the Christmas holiday. Anything that isn t money is of lesser
value to him. His money is top priority and the only thing he cares for. Ebenezer is
not bitter on this holiday for any old reason. The question is why is Ebenezer so
mad when it is the season to be jolly.
In the story A ChristmasCarol it all began in London on a foggy day. Ebenezer was
working conscientiously in his counting house. He had an old partner Jacob Marley
who died 7 years ago. He had a poor minuscule clerk named Bob Crachit. It was cold
on this day and scrooge being a scrooge was acting cheap and didn t want to buy no
more lumps of coal. Scrooge was invited to dinner by his nephew but he rushed his
nephew out the office. His clerk Mr. Crachit was asking scrooge for the day off and

The Culture And Concept Of Culture
One of the most influential and central concepts of anthropology is the nature and
concept of culture. The concept and idea of culture dominated 20th century thought,
and can be used as an explanation as well as an object of fascination for many
anthropologists today. While there are various theories and approaches to culture and
the interpretation of it, I would solely like to examine the Cultural Relativist
approach, and the Boasian thinkers associated with this particular approach. I would
also like to examine how the current time period in which the cultural relativist
approach emerged truly conflicts with the dominant politics. In specifics, I would like
to examine Franz Boashimself, but most notably Ruth Benedict, and the paradoxes
that have occurred within the period after her publications.
Franz Boas (1858 1942) was a famous anthropologist credited with the founding of the
cultural relativist approach, which is a major theory within the discipline of
anthropology. What is important for many involved in the study of anthropology is
that Franz Boas cultivated a foundation that many other thinkers and theorist built
their own ideas upon, especially associated thinkers like Margaret Mead and Ruth
Benedict (which will be mentioned in greater detail later). What Franz Boas is also
credited with, is his efforts of using his academic and scientific background in the
effort to combat racism (Liro, 2003). During his lifetime, Boas often cited the

Fitness Plus
Students should begin by analyzing the capacity of the facility; however, the
analysis is not as straightforward as it first may seem. There is an issue of how
capacity should be measured. Students should quickly recognize that an overall
measure of capacity for the facility isn t much help in determining if Fitness Plus is
capacityconstrained. If the service delivery process for each member were
homogeneous, such as a cafeteria or airline flight, then an overall measure of
capacity, such as the number of members serviced over a given period of time, would
be an appropriate measure of capacity. However, the service delivery process at
Fitness Plus is a menu driven process where each member chooses from a range of

With these issues in mind, the students can develop capacity estimates similar to the
following:
1.Aerobics
*Assumption: Aerobics classes begin on the hour and last for 50 minutes.
*Capacity: 1 class per hour for 35 members
2.Cardiovascular
*Assumption: During peak demand times, each piece of equipment is limited to 30
minutes per member.
*Capacity: With 29 pieces of C V equipment, 58 members per hour peak capacity
3.Nautilus
*Assumptions: Each member takes 1 minute to complete each exercise. The
machines are set up so members flow through in a sequential manner.
*Capacity: Maximum capacity at a steady state; cycle time 1 minute. 60 members per
hour
Over the three hour peak demand period, the Nautilus area may only process 156
members because it will take 24 minutes for the first member to complete the entire
24 machine cycle.
These three areas of the club are the major areas of concern due to customer
complaints, and they are where students should concentrate their analysis. The tennis
and racquetball areas can service the following number of members per hour:
Tennis:12 members/hour for singles 24 members/hour for doubles
Racquetball:16 members/hour for singles 32 members/hour for doubles
There were no details given in the case to determine the capacity of the free weight
area. So, if we aggregate the individual capacities into an overall measure, the club
can accommodate a peak capacity of 181 to 209
Analysis Of The Book Jack The Ripper
The Complete Jack the Ripper By: Donald Rumblelow
Publisher: New York Graphic Society, Year: 1975, Pages: 217
This book is about the history of Jack the Ripper, it s about his life and how he
killed. It also talks about his life in the Whitechapel district was.
This book is about how he killed and what Jack the Ripper did, it tells about his life
and what happened (This book is out dated because we have discovered more since
1975). It also shows lots of pictures, they weren t very good pictures but they were
there. The book shows most things he did. He killed at least 5 prostitutes and took
apart their bodies. This terrorized the Whitechapel district, he did this from August
7th to September 10th in 1888. It s a mystery on how he died according to the book,
but keep in mind the book is outdated.
It s a decent book but I didn t find it very interesting, it started out very slow but
picked up during the middle of it. I also didn t understand as much as I wanted too.
I could understand how people like the book though because of what it is. Jack the
Ripper and the mystery behind him makes him interesting just not my thing. Its
successful because it was one of the best written books about him of this time, and
could be used to study on him. It s also successful because of this reason, a lot of
people have probably done a book report or a report in general on him and gained
interest for him.
The Complete Jack the Ripper is about a guy who killed five prostitutes and
Statistics Experiment Essay
Statistics Experiment
For my maths coursework I will be conducting an investigation into statistics. I had
a choice for this coursework of both statistics on year 10 to 11 school children, and
facts about them and also their likes in terms of sport and subjects at school. I
chose not to do this project on that information; instead I chose data on 100
different cars, the reason for this is that I like cars more and may perhaps pursue it
as a career. I did not want to do a project on data that I have no interest in.
The 100 different cars have data under the following headings, Car number in order
from 1 to 100, the make of the car, the price when new of the car, the current second
hand price, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For my coursework I will be hopefully conducting a total of 3 different
investigations into this survey, though this may change to 2 or 4. My aim is to
look for a correlation in the separate investigations and perhaps if I can draw any
conclusions or maybe find a formula or prediction for a particular investigation that
will work for all or most cars. E.g. if from mileage, price when new and age I can
calculate the current second hand price.
My investigation will be:
The frequency of mileage in my sample, if there is a relationship between the second
hand price and age of a car, and finally if there is relationship between the age and
percentage loss of a car.
I will be taking a sample of 20 cars; I will take every 5th car in the database. I will
show the data in terms of tables, a tally chart, and by way of bar, and scatter graphs
with a line of best fit if applicable.
To improve my investigation I will take a sample of 5 cars, which will not be
included in my final investigation, but this 5 car sample is to test my investigation
techniques, and to allow me to foresee and problems and practise in investigating
statistics.
I will not be able to take all 100 cars and will have to do my investigations on
different samples of the survey, I hope to take 1/5 of the cars, and I will do my
investigations on 20 cars. I
Warfare In Medieval Italy
Incessant Warfare In the 14th century, the northern Italy was divided into many
conflicting city states. The most powerful of these city states were Milan, Florence,
Pisa, Siena, Genoa, Ferrara, Mantua, Verona, and Venice. The Medieval Italy was
then divided by a long battle for supremacy between the Holy Roman Empire and the
Papacy.
The Italian Wars: 1494 1559 The Italian wars are a series of wars for control over Italy
that were fought mostly by France and Spain. The violent wars began in 1494 with
the invasion by Charles VIII, King of France which devastated Northern Italy and
ended the independence of many city states. He conquered Naples but was soon
drove out of the country Maximilian I of Spain and the pope of Rome. Much of the
area outside of Venice was then devastated in 1499 by the Turkish Invasion. King
Louis XII took Milan, Genoa, and Naples in 1499 but in 1503 he was driven ... Show

After the Italian Wars Italy had a long period of prosperity and peace. The peaceful
state was first ruled under Habsburg Spain from 1559 to 1713 and then under
Habsburg Austria from 1713 to 1796.The Black Death also had a large impact on
Italy during their early modern period including claiming 50,000 victims in Venice.
In the 16th century the plague claimed about 14% of Italy s population. The Great
Plague of Milan also killed about half of Naples inhabitants in 1656. The political
situation in Italy in the 18th century was almost the same as it was in the 16th
century. The only difference was that instead of Spain ruling, Austria was now the
dominant power after the War of Spanish Succession. Another big difference was that
the dukes of a mountainous region between Italy and France known as Savoy had
become kings of Sardinia. This occurred by them increasing their Italian possessions.
The possessions include Sardinia and the north west part of
Compare And Contrast The Renaissance Art And Ukiyo-E
Art
Ukiyo e, which literally means pictures of the floating world, has become an
increasingly popular art from 1603 to 1806. These Ukiyo e painting sprang from the
Buddhist ideology that joy is transient and only detachment from desire will bring
true enlightenment. The Renaissance Art and Ukiyo e paintings are similar but there
are more differences like culture, materials, and style. Culturally, Renaissance
paintings were Christian and Ukiyo ewere Japanese. Materials, Renaissance artist
used costly brushes while Ukiyo e paintings were painted using traditional brushes.
Style, Renaissance was more difficult to use than Ukiyo e prints

They are both famous in the art world today, but they are both known for different
reasons. The Renaissance have expensive materials and way broader style than
Ukiyo e. The painters during this period of time had different views on religion
and society. Therefore, they are two complete art societies. Renaissance and Ukiyo
e originated from different parts of the world. Ukiyo e was not very famous until
the Edo period in Japan. Ukiyo e prints were well known for their outstanding colors
and technology ( Painting ). Renaissance was known for its world best painters and
paintings (Currie). Renaissance was more developed in art society than Ukiyo e, they
had better technology and materials. Therefore, Renaissance and Ukiyo e have more

Eco Fiscal Policies And Carbon Pricing Policies
In the second evening lecture, Elizabeth Beale spoke about eco fiscal policies with
a focus on carbon pricing. According to Beale, increasing carbon emissions are not
only harmful to the environment but also create several negative externalities
such as damaging crops and higher health costs. For this reason, carbon pricing
would help to shift these costs back to those who are responsible. Beale proposes
two options for carbon pricing,, a carbon tax or a cap and trade system. A carbon
tax is simpler as the government sets a price for greenhouse gas emissions. A cap
and trade system is more complex as allowable emissions are capped, and then the
government distributes emissions permits, which are tradable. Beale claimed that
no one system is more superior than the other, especially as the differences between
the two get blurred as more jurisdictions are adopting more blended systems. Beale
concluded her lecture by looking at the current carbon pricing policies
implemented throughout Canada. In British Columbia, a carbon tax of $30/tonne
was implemented in 2008, which caused fuel use to drop by 16% from 2008 to
2013. In Quebec a cap and trade system was implemented in 2012 that covered
85% of emissions with the goal to reduce emissions to 25% below 1990 levels by
2020. However, despite the action on carbon pricing in these provinces, the Atlantic
Canadian provinces have yet to implement any type of policy. As a neoliberalist, I
would have to strongly disagree with Beale s
The Tale Of Dracula, Or The Son Of The Dragon
Countless times the fictional story of the infamous Count Dracula has been told in
treatises, playwrights, novels, and also films. Dracula as a character has such an
arduous lifestyle that it is difficult to decipher between truth and myth. Although the
narrative of Count Dracula is viewed as only fiction, there is accuracy behind the
legends. Vlad III s legacy sparked the lore of Count Draculabecause of the scarring
childhood he endured, the torturous agony he caused upon others, and a gruesome
war.
Vlad III was born in November 14, 1431 in Sighisoara, Transylvania to Vlad Dracul
and Princess Cneajna of Moldavia. He had an older brother, Mircea, and a younger
brother, Radu. In 1431, Vlad Dracul was inducted into the Order of the Dragon, ...

In addition, he directed his loathing to his father and older brother, Mircea, for their
unfaithfulness to the Order of the Dragon. Similarly, he was angry at Radu for
leaving Christianity and converting to the Islamic faith. The years Vlad III spent in
captivity taught him many ways of torture and in one way shaped him into the man
he eventually came to be, Vlad the Impaler.
While Vlad Dracul was still on the Wallachian throne, John Hunyadithe Hungarian
King, demanded that Vlad Dracul shall promise to join the crusade against the Turks,
but wanting to stay neutral he sent Mircea instead. The Christian army was utterly
destroyed in the Battle of Varna, John Hunyadi managed to escape the battle under
inglorious conditions. From this moment forward John Hunyadi was bitterly hostile
to Vlad Dracul and Mircea ( Vlad 4). In result to John Hunyadi s animosity, in 1447,
he raided Wallachiaand assassinated Vlad Dracul and Mircea with help of boyars and
merchants. Fearing the Hungarians would gain too much influence in Wallachia after
the death of Vlad Dracul, the Ottoman Turks forged ahead to Wallachia and put Vlad
III on the throne as a puppet so the Sultan could pull the strings. Yet within only
reigning two months, John Hunyadi forced him into exile in Moldavia. Vlad III s
successor to the throne...unexpectedly instituted a pro Turkish policy, which John
Hunyadi found to be unacceptable ( Vlad 4). John Hunyadi turned shockingly to

The Pros And Cons Of Political Science
Political Science is a study that is in the process of progression. According to
Douglas A. Van Belle, faraway galaxies have politics also. Pondering where people
exist, interactions exist. Where people and interactions exist so do cultures and
societies whose idiologies and customs very dramatically. I have always been
attracted to politicsand the more time I spend studing politics the more I realize why.
Political scientist do not agree on a definition and for more than 2,000 years there
has been different interpretations of what the science portion is inclusive of. In class
we discussed this and we were presented with the interpretation of political scienceas
Who gets What, When, How .
At Georgia Southern University the Political Science Department seperates the
dicipline into four fields, Political Theory, American Politics, Comparitive Politics
and International Politics. Comparing concepts from the four different fields can give
us a more philosophical approach to the dicipline. With a higher degree of
understanding, we can accomplish more with the knowledge we share.
Political Theory
From my understanding, political theory tends to be a sub discipline that is much
less discussed than the others. Political theory reflects or engages the philosophical
foundations of the study of politics . Pondering about this subdiscipline, it is very
possible to come to the premature assumption that political theory is the blood flow
of political studies. In some
Close Relationships Between Bacteria And Archaea
. Bacteria and Archaea are split into separate domains because bacteria include all
pathogenic prokaryotes, as well as nonpathogenic prokaryotes that are found in soil
and H2O. What are also found in this domain are photoautotrophic prokaryotes.
Archaea includes prokaryotes that do not have peptidoglycan in their cell walls.
Prokaryotes are mostly related to eukaryotes than they are to different prokaryotes.
This is when they were split into two domains.
2. Similar genetic sequence can indicate close relationships between different species
because DNA accumulates mutations over time like a molecular clock. Organisms
are closely related. If these sequences aren t conserved for a functional purpose, then
they will suggest descent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Red algae is found in the ocean deep, deep, deep down where usually no other

12. Giardia is a parasite that attaches to the epithelium and then heads to the lumen. It
absorbs all of the nutrients from the lumen of the small intestine from the host it
attached too. If Giardia doesn t have a host to attach itself too, it will then create a
dormant structure which is known as a cyst, in order to keep itself alive. The cyst
infects us as humans through the contamination of water, simply because there isn t a
host in the water with it to keep the vegetative cells alive.
13. Phages is not a human health concern because viruses tend to be very specific
when choosing who they want to infect. Human cells and bacteria are completely
different from one another. Bacteriophage is unlikely to bind to human molecules
cells. Since they are unlikely to bond, there isn t any notice of molecules so then the
viruses will not be
Persuasive Essay On Surveillance
When people think of surveillance, people think that it consists of spies and hidden
cameras. Surveillance, however, consist of a much wider range of practices and
technologies and real surveillance is subtler as presented in the documentary An Eye
on You by Alexandre Valenti. Developments in modern technologies, administrative
practices, commerce, and the governmenthave culminated in surveillancein its various
manifestation becoming organizing practice of late modern society. The film presents
information that support the daily surveillance of citizens by the governments as well
as its opposing view. The legality of the non stop surveillance of innocent people, and
the secretly information collected by the internet companies that passed it to the
business industries that uses this data to promote customized items to be specific for
each customer.
No areas of our own lives escape surveillance anymore, the citizens of the world are
the focus of prying eyes, whether they agree to it or not. The government promotes
the vigilance of its constituents for the sake of public safety through a group of
organization where mass data collection and digital espionage programs, surveillance
is becoming synonymous with personal and national security. To watch without being
seen is the spirit of surveillance, through the use of all electronic devises when they
connect to the internet, and how easy it is for the government and the internet
companies to access all the information

  • 2. All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque All Quiet on the Western Front is a short book, but remarkably deep. More than 50 years after its jolting prose, haunting poetry, and powerful truths slashed their way into the consciousness of a worldwide readership, All Quiet still stands at the forefront of a host of novels on that most tragic recurrence in the history of human experience: war. All the aspects of trench warfareare present excitement, boredom, horror, hunger, fear, dirt, alienation, imminent death, futility, to name a few. All Quiet has a pervasive sense of uselessness, an initially unvoiced but later fully expressed question of Just what is this war about, and why am I being put on the line for it? The answer is, of course, nothing, and if All Quiet has but one overriding message, it is that war is awful, and young people ought not to fight. All Quiet is not a book which glorifies the German war effort, or portrays soldiers as heroes. In Remarque s own words, it is an attempt to give an account of a generation that was destroyed by the war even those of it who survived the shelling. As such, it is brutal and confronting, but in the best possible way. Anti war fiction has seldom been this effective, or this memorable for that matter. All Quiet tells the story of Paul BГ¤umer, a young man who gets talked into joining the German army by an idealistic teacher. In short, business like sentences, Paul tells the reader about his experiences in and around the trenches, plus those of his similarly
  • 3. Medieval Period in European History Introduction The medieval period in European history begins after the fall of the Roman Empire around 500 C.E., and continued until the early modern period beginning around 1500. The medieval period is split into the sub categories of early medieval (500 1000), central middle ages (1000 1300), late medieval (1300 1500), and followed by the early modern period (1500 1800). At each of these periods of time important political, economic, social, cultural, religious and scientific changes were being made in Western Europe. Early Medieval The collapse of the Roman Empire led to the emergence of three successor civilizations; Byzantium, Islam, and Western Europe. The absence of a strong central government led Western Europeans landowner s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elites would provide higher ranking nobles with feudal obligations of warriors, food, and/or animals in return for their protection or use of the land. After the schism in 1054 with the Byzantine emperor, Christianity was divided into Western Catholic and Eastern Orthodoxy sects. Urban masses began to challenge the authority of the church claiming that it no longer addressed the needs of the urban public. Heretics, like the Cathars and Albigensians, came into existence and spoke out about church wealth and believed in a dualistic theology. In response, the church instituted monastic reforms against worldliness and complacency within its ranks. In 1122, the power of the Papacy began to expand with the Concordat of Worms which was a compromise between the Pope and the Holy Roman Emperor over lay investiture. Also during this time, the Crusades played an important role in occupying professional soldiers. After the Byzantine emperor s plea for help to Pope Urban II crusading forces were assembled and traveled to the Holy Land. Over the next hundred years they would be four crusades with the first crusade being the most successful and the fourth crusade forever splitting Western Catholic church and the Eastern Orthodox church. As the central middle ages came to an end France and England evolved into centralized states, while the Pope and the Holy Roman Emperor were fighting each other. During this period, an important document was drafted by the English in
  • 4. Rhetorical Analysis Of Pamela 2.3 Tropes Tropes are double signs; they involve the non literal substitution of a new signified for the usual one. To comprehend a trope, a distinction needs to be made between what is said and what is meant (Chandler 2007: 135). In this analysis, the photograph of Pamela represented as meat and the phrases; All animals have the same parts and Have a heart , are tropes. Metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche and irony are the four basic tropes (Chandler 2007: 135). Tropes in visual as well as verbal forms can be seen as reflecting our fundamentally relational understanding of reality. Reality is framed within systems of analogy. Figures of speech enable us to see one thing in terms of another (Chandler 2007: 125). For example the words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case Pamela represents the ideal woman, other women are measured by this constructed ideal, and consequently all women are then seen as consisting of labelled parts , like Pamela in Figure 1. The segmented body of Pamela portrayed in this advertisement is problematic, because it objectifies women in general. Instead of representing a woman s body as a whole , it suggests that women consist of parts . 2.3.3 Irony or ironic statements signify the opposite of their literal signification. Understatement, overstatement and exaggeration can also be regarded as ironic (Chandler 2007: 134). In this analysis the image of Pamela Anderson, combined with the phrase All animals have the same parts can only be seen as ironic exaggeration if the viewer believes that animals are not equal to humans. The overall message signified by Figure 1 is unintentionally ironic. If PETA is against the objectification of animals, and they believe that animals and humans are equal, then the objectification of women and the body represented in this advertisement is ironic, as it reflects the opposite of what PETA stands for i.e. the objectification of all
  • 5. Comparison Between Roman And Roman Culture The closer we examine early Christian life alongside ancient Greek and Roman cultures, the vast differences on how they individually viewed life becomes apparent. The ancient Greeks and Romans beheld extreme importance in living the good life with the view of living in the here and now, whereas early Christianitywas concentrated on living a life for the hereafter. These two drastically different life views are best revealed through the independent ways in which figures were depicted and how faith was expressed through symbolism in works of art, in addition to the way in which religious architecture was arranged during these time periods. It is most unchallenging to see these radical life view differences when analyzing works of art, such as sculptures, from these two individual cultures, as the techniques used to depict figures are highly dissimilar. The statue known as Augustus of Primaporta displays the Roman life view of living in the here and now simply by giving the statue a specific identity. Augustus is easily recognizable as he is realistically, though somewhat idealistically, depicted and is granted with perfect proportions that follows the rules of Polykleitos Canon. Furthermore, Augustus is rendered with one foot in front of the other, while one arm is extended forward in a gesturing motion. This provides him with a sense of movement and liveliness, making him appear as if he is addressing his onlookers, in the here and now. Strikingly different, the biblical

Many Pyncheon generations later, they still believe they have control of the Maules because they ended up with the land. They possess a sense of entitlement because they believe they are becoming close to millionaires and the Pyncheon inheritors are willing to do anything to obtain the fortune. The Maules, however, have their secret legacy, guaranteeing them to receive not only the money, land, and house but also revenge for the years of superiority from the Pyncheon s. (132) The Maules possess witchcraft in them, and Matthew uses it on Alice Pyncheon, Old Colonel Pyncheon s granddaughter. Gervayse Pyncheon, just like any other Pyncheon, shows greed over the deed and money. He brings in Matthew Maule to tell him where the deed was, as he once worked on the house when it went missing. He asks for Alice and he sends her to him because his will to give up anything to find the inheritance. Matthew ends up hypnotising Alice and turns her into his slave. Gervayse Pyncheon now cannot obtain the deed and also loses Alice through greed as a consequence of his. The Pyncheons possess a never ending curse because of the generations before. The faults of the beginning generations affect older generations after. The Pyncheons believe they control the house and will find the land deed, not knowing that a Pyncheon cannot do such a thing. • 7. The Seneca Falls Convention In The 1800 s Seneca Falls In the early 1800 s, many of the women in the United States were plain and simple getting fed up with their lack of writes. Men had dominated everything in the past and they were still continuing to do so. Women were finally ready to come forward and voice their opinions about how men and women are created equal. It was now time for women to go out and become what ever they want to be and not have to worry about the fact that they are females. The Seneca Falls Convention would soon be one of the biggest victories for women s rights. The Seneca Falls Convention of 1848, the first women s rights convention in American history, was an outgrowth of almost twenty years of female activity in social reform. Elizabeth Cady... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is how women let the government know that they wanted the equal rights that they so much deserved. One point that Elizabeth Cady Stanton makes is that the man never permitted her to exercise her inalienable right to the elective franchise. This is very true seeing that women were not even allowed to work because their place was at the home where they were to raise the family. If women did work for a part time they would not get even close to the amount of money that males get. She also states that he has taken from her all right in property, even the wages that she earns. Women at this time were not allowed to own property. She also states that he has withheld her from her rights, which are given to the most ignorant and degraded men, which even includes foreigners. This meant even if you were the smartest, kindest, and most willing to work hard woman alive, you still would be treated worse than the least respected man. What all of this means is that at this time women were be deprived of pretty much every right that they were given by god. The Seneca Falls was the beginning, which sparked a bunch of conventions that would follow every year. Eventually it worked, and women started getting custody of children, and the government was more favorable

Life has many troubles including death, pain, and suffering. It leaves little hope. There are ways in which people can live to have a good life. This method of how a person should live is viewed differently thoughout the world. James Hilton represents this combination of ideas and cultures in the novel, Lost Horizon (1933). This great asset of Shangri La represents the theory of Plato and showed that Shangri La is a place abundant is Platonic philosophy. The second philosophical view aiding in the setting of Shangri La is the theory of Aristotle. Aristotle believed that the good life is one of balance. The people of Shangri La also lived this way claiming that our prevalent belief is moderation. (74). The people are moderately sober, moderately chaste, and moderately honest (75). Moderation is abundant throughout the setting of Shangri La, and the people claim that moderation [is], y know the motto of the firm (180), whereas firm represents Shangri La. The happiness of Shangri La is portrayed as one of the pleasantest communities, (108) where the inhabitants are courteous and carefree (108) and where one will doubtless find great happiness (198). Even in happiness there is moderation. Shangri La
  • 9. The Crime Of Measuring Crime Measuring crime remains a difficult challenge despite years of research and reportable crime data. To say this problem has stumped policymakers and law enforcement professionals is an understatement. Each year statistics and crime data are collected using numerous means for study and released in public reports. The merits behind these collections are numerous as are the potential uses for the data. Of particular consideration are the Uniform CrimeReports and the National Incident Based Reporting System. While both reports aim to measure the different aspects of crime, much is often lost in translation when presented to the general population. First we will examine the Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) and some of the key characteristics that differentiate it from other reporting methods. The UCR is a crime measurement system that was established in 1929 by the International Association of Chiefs of Police in order to provide information at the national level on serious crimes reported to law enforcement from the state level and lower. This system was originally published in a guide entitled Crime Reporting: A Complete Manual for Police. The intent of this manual was to establish reporting criteria and categories of offenses. To meet the criteria for this type of reporting the crime must be of a serious offense and be considered highly likely to be reported to the police. All data reported to this system is voluntary. Originally, these specific crime types were referred to as

Essay on Death and the Kings Horseman and A Grain of Wheat The following work will call your attention to the way in which a playwright and a novelist deploy key stylistic and dramatic effects and will be complete by means of examining a passage taken from each work. The first standpoint is the thorny issue of suicide in African culture. The ceremony is that of a social process. Elesin wishes to perform this act not for personal gain, but as a social experience that will involve his fellow countrymen as it is his duty to do so. The second standpoint is that of suicide from a Western point of view. It is seen to have nothing that ties an individual s death to that of another s in the supernatural world. In accordance with Christianity if a person commits suicide that is the end of their journey. It is clear that the two standpoints differ in standing as one sees suicide as a personal act and the other a communal. The play is certainly fascinating and stimulating, but as for taking a standpoint on the moral issues involved it is possible to say that despite tradition the willing suicide of an individual is not something to be celebrated as it is in Death and the Kings Horseman. But who tilled the soil on which grew coffee, tea, pyrethrum, and sisal? Who dug the roads and paid the taxes? The whiteman lived on our land. He ate what we grew and cooked. And even the crumbs from the table, he threw to his dogs. (NgЕ©gД©, 2002: 216) The allegorical story of A Grain of Wheat takes place after World War II in the village of Thabai. The main character, Thomas, has many great qualities. Thomas from The Maze Runner, is the Christ Figure hero archetype because he defies death, performs miracles, and fights for justice. Thomas defies death by surviving a night in the maze. A feat of this magnitude had not been accomplished among the gladers . Thomas bolts into the maze at closing time, when he realizes their friends have not returned. Being in the maze after it closes is a certain death. While in the maze he discovers a way to hide from the grievers as others ran. Grievers are the creatures of the maze that no one has ever survived. Clement, 1994 defined leadership as, the process in which one person sets the purpose or direction for one or more other persons and gets them to move along together with him or her and with each other in that direction with competence and full commitment . According to Nicole Fallon in Business News Daily on December 10, 2014, Leader is someone who brings people together and guides them toward a common goal. Anyone can tell others what to do, but effective leadership requires much more than the ability to assign tasks to a group. Although the goal is one, the ways to achieve the goals may vary. They may depend upon characteristics, skills and vision of the leader Follower Great Leaders know they are not good at everything and accept the truth that delegation is required. They respond by hiring skilled professionals to address the deficiencies in team and strengthen the capacity of team.Iacocca demonstrated goodwill by taking a nominal salary as he asked for union concessions to cut operating costs. • 13. John F. Kennedy s Moral Lapse Leaders fail often. The challenges of leadership are often complex and extremely demanding, which often leads to leadership failure. For most failure leads to a dead end while for others growth is achieved from failures. From former president John F. Kennedy s moral lapse to the defeats of Apple founder Steve Jobs, the road to leadershipcan be devastating. Being a leader is fluid, and involves many unforeseen factors and traits. John F. Kennedy as this countries leader helped pave the way for civil rights legislation, but on the same hand failed many moral obligations as a leader. Through his personal failures, John F. Kennedy was still able to move forward as a leader. Also, Steve Jobs was another leader who was able to accomplish many things as a technological leader, but failed in aspects of his moral obligations as the leader of his household in the handling of his daughter. Both men had many traits in common, but they both possessed several basic traits of a leader. According to North house (2012), for some people, leadership is a trait or an ability, for others it is a skill or a behavior, and for still others it is a relationship or process (p. 7). What truly defines leadership is at times difficult to grasp, because many see leadership in various ways. Being a leader requires a mix of all of the complexities of leadership, and the views on which leadership qualities are important are shaped by personal experiences. The text suggests we think about
  • 14. Patriotism In The Film Mr. Smith Goes To Washington In the current political climate, anything said against the government is deemed unpatriotic by certain areas of the culture. Patriotism is bandied about as a necessity by some, and derided completely by others. But what is true patriotism, and how necessary is it? The film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, made in 1939, was originally condemned for being unpatriotic as it showed the ugly side of American democratic politics at a time where democracies were falling all over Europe. However, the film presents a different view of patriotismthat supports the most important part of democracy; the people. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington clearly demonstrates the failures and problems in American democracy, but paints protagonist Jefferson Smith as extremely patriotic, illustrating that patriotism is not a blind stubborn belief that a country is right all of the time, but a wholehearted passion for making said country a better place. This view of patriotism may have seemed critical in 1939, but the movie effectively shows how the citizens really are the most important part of a democracy, and how they can rail against political corruptionto truly create a better country. When protagonist Jefferson Smith very suddenly becomes a US Senator, he is portrayed as the perfect example of nominal patriotism. He has several speeches by Washington and Lincoln memorized, is the leader of a group of what are basically Boy Scouts, and spends his first day in Washington DC in awe of the monuments.
  • 15. The Causes Of Food-Borne Illness This year, four million Canadians will be affected by a food borne illness, 11 600 will need hospitalization, and 238 of them will die (Thomas et al., 2015). Food borne illness refers to any illness caused by ingesting food or drink contaminated by microbes or toxic substances (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). Moreover, the foodmarket offers a variety of products to meet customers expectations and this market must to ensure the food quality, especially when it is related to food safety. For years, dairy products, processed food and vegetables have been associated with recalls. In addition, the aliments should be free from pathogens because they may cause diseases, and some can lead to death. Bacteria such as E. coli, Listeria, Norovirus, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Clostridium are cited as the most dangerous food pathogens able to cause significant harm to human health or even hospitalization (Thomas et al., 2015; Wang Salazar, 2016; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). For example, E.coli can contaminate multiple categories of food including dairy, meats, vegetables and processed food and cause significant health issues (Zwietering et al., 2016). Listeria is another pathogen that frequently appears in food poisoning outbreaks. Food contamination may occur at any stage of the food chain (harvesting, production, farming, storing) or even in people s homes. (Mani et al., 2017). With the advent of technology and the improvement of Microbiologytechniques, the detection of pathogens has been improving and ensuring new guidelines regarding hygiene, food conservation, and manufacturing process (Arpaia, 2017). By this, it has been vital to developing accurate and efficient methods to detect pathogens, supervise, and track the food processing chain. Due to the possibility the food contamination from the farm (harvesting or abattoir) to people s consumption (finished product and storage), the food production must be regulated to guarantee the quality of the nutrition (Arpaia, 2017). Therefore, the food producers and the distributors need to follow some rules to prevent food poisoning because this is an important threat to human health (Mani et al., 2017). For instance, in

From Thoreau to Emerson, they expressed the ideas of nonconforming from society in order to live in simplicity. Before technology was so readily available, employees of companies had a harder time tracking inventory. Today one can go into a large retailer and ask an employee to check if an item is in stock and all the employee would have to do is check a little hand held device. The four types of inventory systems that Team A decided to research and discuss were: Advanced Tracking System (ATS), Perpetual Inventory System, Periodic Inventory System, and Just In Time Inventory System. It is also well suited for the type of industries where there isn t much processing to do, so the inventory exists at only one level (for sale) rather than at three levels (raw materials, work in progress and for sale) (Kulkarni, 2010). Periodic Inventory System A periodic inventory control is a system with no continuous record of changes. Inventory is only tracked periodically instead of per the transaction. At the end of a specific period, usually an accounting period; quarterly or monthly, the ending inventory is found by a physical count. The cost of each item is computed and deducted from the sum of purchases and the beginning of the inventory to calculate cost of goods sold (Business Dictionary, 2010). The periodic inventory system keeps the inventory balance at the same value that it was at the beginning of the period. The inventory level is not updated after purchases, for accounting purposes; this system uses an account called purchases at the end of the period, rather than debiting inventory. Just In Time (JIT) Inventory System Just In Time inventory system known as JIT is one of inventory systems used in companies to deliver a finished product to customers quickly to reduce the overall ordering and inventory holding cost (Atkinson, 2005). The system proves to be most effective for companies that lose money for holding a product in its inventory for an extended period of time and

Using Logit And Linear Regression Essay Using Logit and Linear regression, we attempted to understand factors that influence students to leave their college or University, their average GPA, and graduating in four years. We tailor our study to first generation students, in relation to PoC students. Because much of the differences in college success have been linked to social class and economic background we have controlled for family income, as well as race, level of cultural capital and students use of universityservices. Our analysis of the dependent variables for student success; students decision to leave, average GPA and four year graduation, reveal that first generation status is a significant factor in all three. Other variables frequently emphasized in education literature on student success and first generation status, such as cultural capital and peer support had less of an impact than indicated in previous research. We analyze each dependent variable separately for independent variables in Wave 2, Wave 3, and Wave 4. And then look for relational differences in the impact of independent variables both between dependent variables and over different waves of the study. We present findings in which the relationship our dependent variables to independent variables are significant to the 0.5 level of confidence. Independent variables in our study had different effects on our dependent variables, with some positive correlations and some negative. Finding presented below start with those affecting students

The median and mean for a football with a pressure of 89.6 kilopascals was the same, at a distance of 36.0 meters. This shows that there was minimal error in our testing. Also, the modes give clues to the consistency of our experiment. For the pressure of 0.0 kilopascals, there were two modes, 2.7 meters and 3.8 meters. For 44.8 kilopascals, the mode was 11.4 meters. The German Army extended significant influence over the Weimar Republic throughout the period leading up to 1933. The Republic failed to gain the army s complete allegiance and thus the army remained as an independent state within a state . The Reichswehr s major influence can therefore be determined to the successes and failures of the Weimar Republic. Germany s loss of WWI came as a shock to the entire population, who were constantly being told Germany had nearly succeeded. However, the German Army astoundingly managed to survive the defeat without losing its high status in German society. Even though Reichswehr leaders such as ... As historian Louis L Snyder wrote, The Republic was...unable to control [the Reichswehr] or to win its unqualified allegiance. This influence and power that the army wielded during this period was particularly enabled during the political and economic hardships within Germany, as well as the impact of the Treaty of Versailles. While the Reichswehr had no real loyalty to the democracy, they tolerated the new system as they possessed a fear of instability and the threat of the extreme left. General von Seeckt, Commander in Chief of the Reichswehr from 1920 to 1926, made decisions based on the Reichswehr s best interests rather than what was asked of the democratic state. He refused military assistance in putting down the right wing Kapp Putsch in March 1920, declaring Reichswehr doesn t fire on Reichswehr . There was a significant chance that the Weimar Republic could have been overtaken if not for the call for a general strike, signed by Ebert and SPD ministers. On the other hand, the army were ruthless in dealing with left wing attacks, particularly during the Spartacist uprising. The army s right wing tendencies became apparent through the Kapp Putsch. Moreover, the right wing Beerhall Putsch in
  • 35. Evaluation Of The Different Treatment Choices For The... Evaluation of the different treatment choices for the management of seasonal allergic rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis (AR) is an inflammatory condition which affects the membrane lining of the nose; causing it to become sensitive to allergens such as pollen, dust and animal dander. During AR, antigens bind with immunoglobulin E(IgE) to form an antigen antibody complex which then attach themselves to the surface of nasal mast cells; inducing a cascade of cellular events leading to mast cell degranulation and the release of histamine via exocytosis. The release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators on blood vessel and nerve endings results in the symptoms of AR such as sneezing, itching and nasal discharge (rhinorrhoea). AR which occurs the same time every year is known as seasonal AR or more commonly known as hay fever . Avoiding causative allergens is essential in the management of the symptoms of AR; however, drug treatment is used to alleviate and control its symptoms. This evaluation will focus on the use of H1 anti histamines, corticosteroids and IgE therapy in the treatment and management of seasonal AR. (ARIA, 2008) Treatment options Drug treatment in the management of AR includes the use of selective H1 anti histamines, corticosteroids and in persistent, uncontrollable cases, immunotherapy may be an option. H1 anti histamines and corticosteroids are routinely used in the treatment of AR are available in topical formulations such as nasal sprays and eye
  • 36. Who Is To Blame In A Christmas Carol A Christmas carol is a traditional story told about an old man as the scrooge of Christmas. The scrooges name in the story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens goes by the name Ebenezer. Ebenezer the old man is miserly all the time especially around the season for the Christmas holiday. Anything that isn t money is of lesser value to him. His money is top priority and the only thing he cares for. Ebenezer is not bitter on this holiday for any old reason. The question is why is Ebenezer so mad when it is the season to be jolly. In the story A ChristmasCarol it all began in London on a foggy day. Ebenezer was working conscientiously in his counting house. He had an old partner Jacob Marley who died 7 years ago. He had a poor minuscule clerk named Bob Crachit. It was cold on this day and scrooge being a scrooge was acting cheap and didn t want to buy no more lumps of coal. Scrooge was invited to dinner by his nephew but he rushed his nephew out the office. His clerk Mr. Crachit was asking scrooge for the day off and of course scrooge gave him trouble but ended up letting him take the day off. So scrooge closes shop and goes home ... • 37. The Culture And Concept Of Culture One of the most influential and central concepts of anthropology is the nature and concept of culture. The concept and idea of culture dominated 20th century thought, and can be used as an explanation as well as an object of fascination for many anthropologists today. While there are various theories and approaches to culture and the interpretation of it, I would solely like to examine the Cultural Relativist approach, and the Boasian thinkers associated with this particular approach. I would also like to examine how the current time period in which the cultural relativist approach emerged truly conflicts with the dominant politics. In specifics, I would like to examine Franz Boashimself, but most notably Ruth Benedict, and the paradoxes that have occurred within the period after her publications. Franz Boas (1858 1942) was a famous anthropologist credited with the founding of the cultural relativist approach, which is a major theory within the discipline of anthropology. What is important for many involved in the study of anthropology is that Franz Boas cultivated a foundation that many other thinkers and theorist built their own ideas upon, especially associated thinkers like Margaret Mead and Ruth Benedict (which will be mentioned in greater detail later). What Franz Boas is also credited with, is his efforts of using his academic and scientific background in the effort to combat racism (Liro, 2003). During his lifetime, Boas often cited the difference between the

There is an issue of how capacity should be measured. Students should quickly recognize that an overall measure of capacity for the facility isn t much help in determining if Fitness Plus is capacityconstrained. If the service delivery process for each member were homogeneous, such as a cafeteria or airline flight, then an overall measure of capacity, such as the number of members serviced over a given period of time, would be an appropriate measure of capacity. However, the service delivery process at Fitness Plus is a menu driven process where each member chooses from a range of services the club... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With these issues in mind, the students can develop capacity estimates similar to the following: 1.Aerobics *Assumption: Aerobics classes begin on the hour and last for 50 minutes. *Capacity: 1 class per hour for 35 members 2.Cardiovascular *Assumption: During peak demand times, each piece of equipment is limited to 30 minutes per member. *Capacity: With 29 pieces of C V equipment, 58 members per hour peak capacity 3.Nautilus *Assumptions: Each member takes 1 minute to complete each exercise. The machines are set up so members flow through in a sequential manner. *Capacity: Maximum capacity at a steady state; cycle time 1 minute. 60 members per hour Over the three hour peak demand period, the Nautilus area may only process 156 members because it will take 24 minutes for the first member to complete the entire 24 machine cycle. These three areas of the club are the major areas of concern due to customer complaints, and they are where students should concentrate their analysis. The tennis and racquetball areas can service the following number of members per hour: Tennis:12 members/hour for singles 24 members/hour for doubles Racquetball:16 members/hour for singles 32 members/hour for doubles There were no details given in the case to determine the capacity of the free weight area. So, if we aggregate the individual capacities into an overall measure, the club can accommodate a peak capacity of 181 to 209

Analysis Of The Book Jack The Ripper The Complete Jack the Ripper By: Donald Rumblelow Publisher: New York Graphic Society, Year: 1975, Pages: 217 This book is about the history of Jack the Ripper, it s about his life and how he killed. It also talks about his life in the Whitechapel district was. This book is about how he killed and what Jack the Ripper did, it tells about his life and what happened (This book is out dated because we have discovered more since 1975). It also shows lots of pictures, they weren t very good pictures but they were there. The book shows most things he did. He killed at least 5 prostitutes and took apart their bodies. This terrorized the Whitechapel district, he did this from August 7th to September 10th in 1888. It s a mystery on how he died according to the book, but keep in mind the book is outdated. It s a decent book but I didn t find it very interesting, it started out very slow but picked up during the middle of it. I also didn t understand as much as I wanted too. I could understand how people like the book though because of what it is. Jack the Ripper and the mystery behind him makes him interesting just not my thing. Its successful because it was one of the best written books about him of this time, and could be used to study on him. It s also successful because of this reason, a lot of people have probably done a book report or a report in general on him and gained interest for him. The Complete Jack the Ripper is about a guy who killed five prostitutes and

E.g. if from mileage, price when new and age I can calculate the current second hand price. My investigation will be: The frequency of mileage in my sample, if there is a relationship between the second hand price and age of a car, and finally if there is relationship between the age and percentage loss of a car. I will be taking a sample of 20 cars; I will take every 5th car in the database. I will show the data in terms of tables, a tally chart, and by way of bar, and scatter graphs with a line of best fit if applicable. To improve my investigation I will take a sample of 5 cars, which will not be included in my final investigation, but this 5 car sample is to test my investigation techniques, and to allow me to foresee and problems and practise in investigating statistics. I will not be able to take all 100 cars and will have to do my investigations on different samples of the survey, I hope to take 1/5 of the cars, and I will do my investigations on 20 cars. I

  • 43. Eco Fiscal Policies And Carbon Pricing Policies In the second evening lecture, Elizabeth Beale spoke about eco fiscal policies with a focus on carbon pricing. According to Beale, increasing carbon emissions are not only harmful to the environment but also create several negative externalities such as damaging crops and higher health costs. For this reason, carbon pricing would help to shift these costs back to those who are responsible. Beale proposes two options for carbon pricing,, a carbon tax or a cap and trade system. A carbon tax is simpler as the government sets a price for greenhouse gas emissions. A cap and trade system is more complex as allowable emissions are capped, and then the government distributes emissions permits, which are tradable. Beale claimed that no one system is more superior than the other, especially as the differences between the two get blurred as more jurisdictions are adopting more blended systems. Beale concluded her lecture by looking at the current carbon pricing policies implemented throughout Canada. In British Columbia, a carbon tax of $30/tonne was implemented in 2008, which caused fuel use to drop by 16% from 2008 to 2013. In Quebec a cap and trade system was implemented in 2012 that covered 85% of emissions with the goal to reduce emissions to 25% below 1990 levels by 2020. However, despite the action on carbon pricing in these provinces, the Atlantic Canadian provinces have yet to implement any type of policy. As a neoliberalist, I would have to strongly disagree with Beale s

Vlad III s legacy sparked the lore of Count Draculabecause of the scarring childhood he endured, the torturous agony he caused upon others, and a gruesome war. While Vlad Dracul was still on the Wallachian throne, John Hunyadithe Hungarian King, demanded that Vlad Dracul shall promise to join the crusade against the Turks, but wanting to stay neutral he sent Mircea instead. I have always been attracted to politicsand the more time I spend studing politics the more I realize why. Political scientist do not agree on a definition and for more than 2,000 years there has been different interpretations of what the science portion is inclusive of. In class we discussed this and we were presented with the interpretation of political scienceas Who gets What, When, How . At Georgia Southern University the Political Science Department seperates the dicipline into four fields, Political Theory, American Politics, Comparitive Politics and International Politics. Comparing concepts from the four different fields can give us a more philosophical approach to the dicipline. With a higher degree of understanding, we can accomplish more with the knowledge we share. Political Theory From my understanding, political theory tends to be a sub discipline that is much less discussed than the others. Political theory reflects or engages the philosophical foundations of the study of politics . Pondering about this subdiscipline, it is very possible to come to the premature assumption that political theory is the blood flow of political studies. In some
