Essay on Racism and the Enslavement of African Americans
Racism and the Enslavement of African Americans
Did Racism cause enslavement of African Americans? To answer this question you have to determine
what a slave is? And what Racism is? By my views and believes, slavery is any type of duty
somebody does for you. You own them so they work for you otherwise they will get punished. Now
Racism is a negative attitude towards another race. After these to words are cleared up you come to a
conclusion that racism in the 17th century caused enslavement of African Americans. To believe this
you have to look at the history left for us to read. The court papers, and journals of people back in the
17th century.
The first blacks arrived at Jamestown in 1619, they were from Africa and there were 20 of ... Show

John Punch was one the three servants working for a farmer and ran away to Maryland. Two were
white; one was black. They were captured in Maryland and returned to Jamestown, where the court
sentenced all three to thirty lashes. This was considered a severe punishment even by the standards of
17th century. The two white men were sentenced to an additional four years of servitude. The strong
punishment for whites, but in addition to the whipping, the black man John Punch was ordered to
serve his master or his assigns for the time of his natural Life here or elsewhere. (C Degler pg 65)
Because he was a different color John Punch no longer had hope for freedom. Why, because he was
African and was braking the law of the land at the time. The grounds for this harsh sentence
presumably lay in the fact that he was non Christian rather than in the fact that he was physically dark.
But religious beliefs could change, while skin color could not. Within a generation race, religion was
not being made the defining characteristic of enslaved Africans. Because the defining characteristics
of Africans it lead to the terrible transformation to racial slavery.
What were needed in Jamestown were laborers. Or what we call slaves to clear fields, to plant and
harvest crops. During the 1620s and 1630s, when the price of tobacco was high and English workers
had too few jobs available at home, Jamestown offered jobs to the few English workers that came
over. Then after 1660 the value of

#1 Sunset on the River by Mark Twain 1.) Now when I had mastered the language of this water, and
had come to know every trifling feature that bordered the great river as familiarity as I knew the letters

perfectly. This quote is at the beginning of the story saying that he knows the river really well. At the
end he still knows the river well just in a different way. This way is not for the better because he learns
all the dangerous parts about it. 3.) Notes Loves the river and everything about Becomes a steamboat

A Review Of Mars Venus And Vulcan By John Singleton Copley
This piece is called, Mars Venus and Vulcan: The Forge of Vulcan, it is an oil canvas done by John
Singleton Copley, done in 1754. The era that this piece most represents is the Eighteenth and early
nineteenth centuries of art in Europe and North America. This is because of the brief use of nudity and
the use of children that are shown as little angels. The artist also used a sense of time and motion. It is
as if the figures in the piece are moving themselves. The use of 3 D and kinetics allows this sense of
movement in this piece. Also the artist used repetition and rhythm. The viewer s eye is constantly
moving because of this sense of repetition and rhythm

The era this piece most represents is the Renaissance art in the fifteenth century Italy. It goes best with
this era because of its use of nudity and shape and lighting. Its use of space of sharp edges and
sculpture figures. Also the use of lighting shows an almost 3 D like image. Even though this is a print
it almost seems like a picture of statues. The artist also used a sense of scale and proportion in this
piece. Every statue is differently scaled from the others. The body parts on each statue did not quite fit
with the other body parts. Every statue is different in size, stance, and color. Also the background
behind each figure is different from the other ones, in its use of color and detail.
I am very fond of this work of art. The way every part of it is different and that there is no pattern and
nothing is the same really intrudes me. The detail on each figure is incredibly real. The fact that
someone did this in today s world is also extremely interesting. By looking at this piece at first I
thought for sure it was from the far past, when I found out it was not and that it was a newer piece I

derived at this time in life, and quality of relationships. According to Pope, N. D., Lee, J. (2015) the
genogram and ecomap may be defined as a visual tool for exploring a client s social relationships
across time. Typically, these are familial relationships. In general, the genogram is useful in gathering
information, understanding relationship dynamics and behavioral patterns, promoting the client s self
understanding, conducting assessments, and guiding the practitioner to interventions (Pope, N. D.,
Lee, J.,2015). Social workers use genograms to gather information like values and ethics. Genograms
and Ecomaps are great assessment tools to reduce resistance as family members can see connections,
concerns, and family patterns. Furthermore, after processing the information and helping construct the

Through The Tunnel Symbolism
In Through the Tunnel, the author, Doris Lessing, writes about a vacation of a widow and her son
named Jerry. Lessing turns Jerry s and his mother s relaxing vacation into a serious one with the tools
of symbolism to unveil the hidden message of the rocky bay and the tunnel, vivid imagery of the
tunnel, as well as similes and personification regarding Jerry s attitude towards the adventure;
moreover, the author creates an overall tone of determination and wonder to help construct the well
known theme of never giving up.
It is safe to assume the rocky bay and the tunnel both symbolize very important aspects in this short
story. The rocky bay could be said to symbolize a turning point in Jerry s life. In the first paragraph,
Jerry looked down at a wild and rocky bay, and then over the crowded beach he knew ... Show more

After Jerry had watched the older boys go through the tunnel and leave the bay, he was left alone
again. He then dived back in among the fanged and angry boulders, (3). This personification
emphasizes a negative connotation that shows how frustrated Jerry is at this point in his adventure. He
felt like he boys were leaving to get away from him, (3), which only further supports the notion that he
feels alone and has no clue what to do. However, after he decides to get goggles, he ran right back and
dived into the bay once more. While he was negative towards the whole ordeal before, the following
simile reveals a different tone: Now, he could see. It was as if he had eyes of a different kind, fish eyes
that showed everything clear and delicate and wavering in the bright water, (3). The fact that he is now
describing things as clear and delicate shows a more positive connotation which can suggest that Jerry
was not as frustrated after that. He felt as if he got some of his composure and control back and is
ready to continue on his

The Elderly Population
In the beginning, when I began brainstorming about this competency I felt as if it was a demand need
for everyone to be aware about. I have seen individuals being decline of services for a variety of
reasons, and it makes earning those services harder when they aren t within personal reach. I
witnessed this during my placement, as well as my personal life. During my placement, I realized that
the elderly population still often have the chance to be denied for services, support and have their
rights being acknowledged. There are several things that I know about this competency while
interning at Lutheran Social Services. Oppression and discrimination happens in a range of ways and
sometimes it doesn t exactly present itself as those actions. Elderly still have a voice to advocate for
their needs, but sometimes I feel as if it can be taken less seriously compared to other populations.
Therefore, we have to engage in understanding what we have to do by taking action in a political
sense where we have to put others needs and advocate what we believe in for those to get proper rights
as well. Overall, if someone needs aren t being addressed, we must empower them to help serve them
to give them justice as well. In my activities I have participated in different ways of seeing how this
relates to my placement throughout my two semesters through my reflection logs. In my Reflection
Log during January I went to a CARTS discussion where it gave us information about their services

Seamus Heaney s Blackberry-Picking
We all have childhood memories that we can reflect on and feel a sense of happiness, but some
memories we can look back in disgust at the competency we had as children through silly
accomplishments that we had been praised for. In Blackberry Picking, by Seamus Heaney uses
symbolism and diction to suggest power and repugnance as the poem s tone as a means to emphasize
the narrator s success that he felt while picking blackberries, as well as compare the gruesomeness of
Bluebeard to the senses brought forth by the harvesting of the first blackberry. The author writes about
the narrator eating the blackberries using gruesome words such as, clot, flesh, and blood, to give the
reader a negative connotation towards the taste and texture of the berries. Heaney compares the hands
of the children to Bluebeard, a fairy tale character who killed all of his wives; he uses references to
gore to exemplify the comparison between Bluebeard and the berries that stain the narrator s hands.
When the author describes the berries using blood, it can be seen as foreshadow towards the grim
story of Bluebeard, as well as the words: clot and flesh, which are used to depict the ... Show more

Kritios Boy Essay
Created sometime around 480 BCE, the marble sculpture Kritios Boy is a significant piece of ancient
Greek art. Although it was recovered in a mutilated state over one thousand years after its creation, the
sculpture still manages to showcase detail of the human body in a more naturalized form than the
similar pieces of art that had came before. This piece of artwork was created at a very busy time in
Greek history. Greece was in the midst of a war with Persia, and Athens was a pre Socratic society that
was nearing the height of interest in philosophy. With that came the quest to identify mankind s
natural identity. The results of this quest was displayed in many pieces of artwork. Kritios Boy was
sculpted in the figure of a human male, and was quite distinct from similar pieces of artwork of earlier
Greek and Egyptian history. Kouros, from only forty five years prior to Kritios Boy, was much more
closely related to the heavily idealized Egyptian sculptures like the Triad of Mycerinas. Those earlier
sculptures were similar in that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most noticeably in the way that the statue is standing. Rather than standing in the rigid stance of the
Kouros and others before, the figure is demonstrating a contrapposto stance, a more natural and
common way of standing that places the body s weight on one side of the body, with the left leg
standing straight, and the right one bent and relaxed. Looking up through the torso, one will see that
the hips are not aligned, contributing to the more relaxed and natural stance. This showcases the
progress made in the quest to represent the natural body, as it is a very common way for humans to
stand. Other features, such as proportion and muscle definition, place Kritios more towards the natural
side of the styleized naturalized spectrum. Unlike the Kouros of 600 BCE, the Kritios s head and torso
correspond well with the rest of the body, and muscle and bone structure appear more

Stereotypes In High School
High school is full of a variety of types of people, who can all be labeled into certain groups or
stereotypes. High school can be an amazing time for people, just as easily as it could be a terrible time
for people. It s quite odd how everyone goes to the same school, and mostly attend the same courses,
yet they are significantly different from one another. Every school has the classic jocks, nerds,
partiers/stoners, etc., but it appears our generation has created several new stereotypes. With students
spending approximately 35 hours a week at school, it is easy for one another to label each other, and
determine who they fit in with.
The most common stereotype in Spring Lake is the Preppy Rich Kid. The Preppy part of these kids is
that they love to wear a perfectly matching outfit; including their colorful Polo Shirts/t shirts, colorful
short shorts, matching socks, with a matching pair of boat shoes/skate shoes. The Rich part of these
kids is that they live in a big house on the water, their parents have high paying jobs, and their parents
will buy them whatever they desire. These kids typically drive an expensive foreign car, usually
blaring rap music out of their car s subwoofer everyday to school. Once they have arrived at school,
most of them have a very enjoyable day. For the most part, they have a perfect life, including getting
all the girls/boys, receiving good grades, being attractive, and being a phenomenal athlete. These kids

Victoria de Zwaan is a professor of experimental fiction, film theory, and adaptation studies at Trent
University in Ontario, Canada, and argues in this article that while fidelity studies could be considered
a stagnated and outdated vain of research in adaptation theory, it can be examined from various angles
to achieve a deeper understanding of the source text instead of cutting up both sources only to fight
one other for superiority; in this case Zwaan uses the film, Midnight s Children, to expand upon her
theory. Zwaan takes note of George Bluestone s capstone work, Novels into Film, and states that most
of the work done, outside of his book, on the subject was merely a mode to break down the film
adaptation and highlight the lack of justice

Gabriel García Márquez s One Hundred Years of Solitude
By far, Garcia Marquez s most acclaimed work is Cien Anos de Soledad or One Hundred Years of
Solitude. As Regina Janes asserts, his fellow novelists recognized in the novel a brilliant evocation of
many of their own concerns: a total novel that treated Latin America socially, historically, politically,
mythically, and epically, that was at once accessible and intricate, lifelike and self consciously, self
referentially fictive. lt;4 gt; In it, the totality of Latin American society and history is expressed. Upon
first reading, the novel appears to relate a regional history of the town of Macondo and the many
generations of Buendias that inhabit it. This local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gabriel Garcia Marquez has dealt with historical themes in several of his fictions, but in One Hundred
Years of Solitude, the author makes a statement about history and the importance of historical
consciousness. In this paper, the view of history expressed by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in One
Hundred Years of Solitude will be the focus.
Circularity and Repetition
History is represented in two different ways in One Hundred Years of Solitude: the way in which the
characters experience it, and the method in which it actually develops. The characters are caught
between the pressures of past and present, and from their perspective everything is repeating itself
cyclically. [They] see the past in general as part of the circular pattern of recurring events and in
particular, as filled with negative personal experiences which they do everything possible to repress.
lt;6 gt; This presentation of time and history as repetitious is obvious to the reader, but she would be
deceived to believe it is the way in which history really is progressing. Still, the cyclic structure of the
novel is an important part of its historical analysis.
In her article entitled Cien Ados de Soledad, Historia y Mito de lo Americano (One Hundred Years of
Solitude, History and Myth of the American ), Fanny Carrion de Fierro asserts that the symbolic one
hundred years of Macondo s time are divided into two historic periods which repeat themselves.

Individualism Individualism
TShifting to a more contemporary lense, Libertarian s ultimate priority of individual rights has
evolved in present day America into a set of supplementary values called individualism. Although this
principle is never mentioned in Hospers paper, his positions stated on personal liberties and self
preservation serve as the foundation for this idea, which extends these rights to be applicable as a
lifestyle where every decision is made strictly for someone s own personal benefit. (Boaz)
Unsurprisingly, individualism also entails a resistance to all type of restrictive measures by
authoritative powers, especially the obligation to provide assistance to another citizen financially or
otherwise. (Boaz) In the Libertarian view, nobody should be forced to even tell someone the time of
day if requested against their will. (Hospers, 331) In this sense, Individualism can be seen as the active
exercise one s individual liberties. Furthermore, according to David Boaz of the Libertarian think tank
The Cato Institute, individualism also gives a person the power to flourish on their own terms, and can
also provide a sense of dignity , especially to underrepresented groups. (Boaz)
Whether or not by design, this Libertarian emphasis on individualism is a theme that has become
heavily ingrained into contemporary American life as the culture, economics, and politics of the
country all have elements of this value. In fact, according to a recent Pew research study, U.S. citizens

Ethics And The Code Of Ethics In Schools
Ethics in School
Meaning
Ethics is a science that deals with the ideals involved in human conduct. In other words, it is the rules
or standards, governing the conduct of a person or the conduct of the members in a profession. It
relates to the social rules that influence a person to be honest while dealing with other people. The
word ethics is originated from a Greek word Ethos which means character or manner.
Introduction
Ethics are concerned with the moral actions of human beings. We can see the practice of ethics in
almost every profession. In schools, ethics applies to the management board, administration, teachers
and most importantly students. For each entity, a code of ethics is created either from within the
educational institution, through professional organizations or by both. Here the code of ethics provides
ethical standards that people associated with the school, as discussed above, are expected to follow in
conjunction with each other as laid by the decision making bodies. In India, the code of professional

The Yellow River And The Chinese Nation
The Yellow River is located in Qinghai, China. In the present day it is not very dense in population. It
is a very high altitude called the Tibetan Plateau. It is place of strong Tibetan and Mongol cultural
traditions in present day China. The Yellow River is known by all Chinese people as the mother river
(Wu). It is also agreed upon by almost all Chinese people that it is the cradle of Chinese civilization
and the spiritual home of the Chinese people (Zhou). The Yellow River is the symbol of the Chinese
nation, the spirt of the Chinese people, but most importantly civilization itself. The Yellow River gets
its name from the yellowish color of the water. The water is yellow because each year over 1.6 billion
tons of soil flows into the river, which causes the rise and shifting of the river bed (Wu). Before the
damming of the river it was extremely prone to flooding which in turn caused millions of deaths. The
Yellow River flooding is responsible for the deadliest disaster in human history. It is said the river had

Yellow River Basin and also increasing water demands for irrigation purposes the river has dried up
annually since 1972. The longest it ever ran dry was in 1997 for 226 days (Wu). These annual

keep Iran independent and stable. Though, the relations between the two countries soon became
broken. One major event was between the United States of America and Iran, which was the Iranian
Hostage Crisis.
On President Jimmy Carter s third year as president, the shah of Iran was in deep trouble. Iran had
brutal and unpopular policies that many people did not agree with. Revolution broke out in the
January of 1979, because many Iranians didn t agree with the shah s ruling. The shah had no support

The crisis made the relations between the united States and Iran very bitter. The Iranians also
developed strong and contempt feelings toward President Jimmy Carter. Carter failed at attempting to
secure the hostages freedoms and that decreased his popularity. This crisis caused the Iranian

United States then had trouble getting oil from Iran. After the hostage crisis, the U.S. then looked at
Iranians as terrorists and did not have

Walt Disney Company Is Worth Investing
As one of the largest multimedia companies in the world, The Walt Disney Company includes all
aspects of American entertainment, including animation, music, production, and theme parks.
Founded in 1923 by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney, the business has grown from silent animations
films to diversify into all aspects of the entertainment industry, primarily focusing on all interests of
the typical American family. The company, since its founding, has proved to be a worthy investment
on all standings. Its constant production of imaginative creations has provided an eternal loyal fanbase

With success upon success granted to the company, Disney decided to work towards creating its first
feature film. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered December 21st, 1937, marking the
beginning of an almost 100 year saga of films that the corporation is well known for today. Over the
next several years, Disney continued to produce films and animation, including some relating to World
War II propaganda. In the 50 s, Walt Disney Productions teamed up with Coca Cola to premiere its
first television show; Disneyland. That following year, the first disney park, Disneyland, opened in
Anaheim, California. As the company has grown larger and larger, more products have been added to
its bandwidth, including a chain of retail stores, its own television channel, international amusement
parks, Broadway shows, videogames/toys, and cruise lines.
The Walt Disney Company has gone through many mergers during its long history. One of the first
was the company s acquisition of the Capital Cities/American Broadcasting Company, which is the
2nd largest corporate takeover to date. This horizontal merger served as not only a distribution service,
but also as extra capital through the pre existing channels of ESPN and ABC Family. Many of the

Far Right Extremism
Far right extremism in the United States contains a large number of ideas and beliefs. The term far
right extremism is commonly used to refer to a network of groups who contain a combination of anti
government, racist, anti semitic, homophobic, anti abortion, and anti immigrant beliefs. For example,
the Ku Klux Klan, Christian Identity sects, Aryan Nation, as well as the creativity movement are all
far right extremist groups that support violence, separation, deportation, and immigration restrictions
of nonwhites so as to maintain the purity of the white race (Dyson).
The attacks of September 11, 2001 had a large impact on the United States, and marked the beginning

Changing The Voting Age
In 2012, 62% of Americans that are elgible voters actually did vote. It should be our goal to have a
higher voting rate like in Belgium it s elgible voters are at 93% participation. Changing the legal
voting age from eighteen to sixteen won t change the participation rate. I believe the legal voting age
of eighteen needs to stay how it is because younger voters already have a small outcome of voters and
a voter younger than eighteen isn t truly an adult. If we change the voting age now it will only hurt
than help.
There is only 38% of younger population that did vote in 2012. So if there isn t a difference in age the
numbers will still be very small. Letting people a couple years younger vote, won t help boost the
participation, but make the younger voters have even lower voting rates. I believe that younger people
of the age of sixteen most likely are too young to understand everything about politics. So if they
cannot comprehend the politics of it all then they sure won t vote if they don t even know. The small
percentage of voters is just one fact that proves changing the legal voting age won t change anything
for the participation of voting Americans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brains are still developing in a young adults mind. If the age of voting went down anymore it will

Dbq How North And South Ended Reconstruction
How the North and South Ended Reconstruction
The North and South both ended Reconstruction. After the Civil War there was a time if rebuilding the
nation called Reconstruction. During this time everyone had their own thoughts about the North and
South, people of different race, and political offices. This leads us to a major thought, how the North
and South ended Reconstruction. As people targeted carpetbaggers and scalawags, African American
voters and Government Officials Reconstruction became more tense, also problems and racism in the
North sprung about.
Carpetbaggers were targeted during Reconstruction creating more tension. Carpetbaggers were people
from the North who came down to the South for political and financial gain.(Document

Analysis Of Plumpy Nut By Sarah Morrison
Sarah Morrison first proclaims that Plumpy Nut, a peanut paste, is a huge breakthrough in the fight
against child hunger. First used during a famine in Niger, Plumpy Nut now reaches two million
malnourished children. Morrison heralds Plumpy Nut for its simplicity. The peanut based paste does
not require any fresh water to be swallowed. Additionally, Plumpy Nut stays fresh after opening, and it
does not need to be cooked or kept cool. The paste, which contains sugar, vegetable fat, vitamins, and
minerals, can be given to any malnourished child from anyone. Citing experts, Morrison writes that
Plumpy Nut has already altered how starving children are cared for. Treatment no longer has to take

The Political Frame Essay
Buck Morss argues in The Political Frame that those societies claiming to be democratic often operate
with power out of control of the masses. This wild zone is above the law, because it is a function of
the state that makes the law. This relates to Buck Morss next point on the issue of sovereignty and
legitimacy of a state.
According to the nation state societies, the state monopoly on violence is legitimate because it is
operated by legislation. The laws are written by those elected by the people, therefore popular
sovereignty and popular will are the same. However, this fails to explain the violence and is an
unsteady point. The state is both defender and creator of law, and therefore shifts that power towards
itself. According to the class warfare model, the violence is explained by the revolution and the
constant struggle between classes. This, however, does not explain its legitimacy. According to Marx,
the secret exercise of class of interests cannot be the basis of legitimacy. ... Show more content on

A source of legitimacy is the right to wage war because of all that war entails: an enemy and violence,
namely. By defining an enemy, the state brings a collective into being. Buck Morss notes the war
powers rights during times of crises, where the enemy is seen as dangerous enough to develop the
wild zone, that part of democracy removed from the people. Any challenge to the collective status quo
is therefore an act against the collective and an enemy action. Therefore, the display of violence is a
legitimate expression of democratic sovereignty despite the inherently non democratic nature of the
exercise. According to Buck Morss, war risks the life or death of the collective itself. Therefore, the

Chemistry In The 1800 s
The studies of chemistry and physics have shaped understanding of the world today. In fact, they have
altered the mindset and reasoning of society, leading to an age in which discoveries are consistently
being sought after and achieved. However, it must be noted that the origin for the basis of
understanding used today in fields such as chemistry derived almost entirely from the scientists of the
1800 s. In this thorough and precise essay, the incubator for some of the world s most innovative
researchers and pioneers in chemistry and physics will be discussed the Cavendish Laboratory. In the
late 1800 s, specifically June 16th, 1874, the Cavendish Laboratory of Cambridge University in the

is rather difficult, as assembling nano chunks of matter into a structure creates nano materials that
have emergent properties, which are not found in their constituents (NanoPhotonics, n.d., para. 3).
Their goal is moving from expensive fabrication of devices to elegant nano assembly in which
materials build themselves (NanoPhotonics, n.d., para. 3). Overall this has a large reward if research is

Reflection About Identity
Identity is very difficult to fully comprehend, but it is vital to the purpose of every man, woman, and
child that has lived and ever will live on the earth. As precisely expressed by Erik Erikson, In the
social jungle of human existence, there is no feeling of being alive without a sense of identity. As
defined by Merriam Webster, identity is The distinguishing character or personality of an individual.
However, this definition falls short of the true meaning of the word, as it does not openly state the
deciding factor for the perception of a person s identity. For this reason, it is necessary to redefine the
word in order to properly convey its meaning to those that do not fully understand it, as well as clarify
by whom it is ascertained. Identity is how one perceives oneself, based primarily on the behaviors
exhibited by this person.
A more precise definition of identity could not have been taught to me any better than by my first
venture from the state of Iowa to the valley town of Estes Park, Colorado. For a reason I still do not
understand in its entirety, it brought me to better understand myself by truly comprehending in what
esteem I hold myself, and perhaps what I one day strive to achieve. The novelty and charm of the
place were greatest the first time I experienced it, and I felt an indescribable sense of peace that
unfortunately did not entirely carry forward in future years. After driving through what seemed like

Introduction
When most of us think about communication, many of us immediately imagine ourselves talking to
someone or writing them a message. Most of us do not actively think about the equally or more likely,
much more important nonverbal cues that are very much a part of how people perceive our chosen
messages. The main types of nonverbal communication cues that I focused on while I was observing
my subjects were:
Kinesics, the gestures we make or how we move about when we are communicating.
Haptics, the way we interpret things physically.

The woman, her mostly gray blonde hair freshly styled and worm to just below her shoulders, wore a

before in the relationship. The constant eye contact while talking and occasional touching and kissing

Propaganda And Persuasion During The Russian Civil War
During the 1918 Russian Civil War, there was news depicting Leon Trotsky as the leader of the Red

the head as the fighter in Saint George advocating for communism. It was regarded as the main
weapon to combat capitalism. The title of the news associated with the leader was the theme of
counter revolution printed on the picture. The Russian diverse interests in capitalism, socialism and
monarchism required massive support for the Red Army to defeat the South Russian White Army. The
Red Army use of pictures for persuasion prompted immense public support. This essay explores the

Some of the methods used to analyze the results of the PREDIMED trial includes Cox proportional
hazard modeling to compute hazard ratios for each Mediterranean diet and the control group
outcomes.3 The hazard ratios for the primary endpoints were 0.70 (95% confidence interval [CI]:0.53

The media article also seems to be misleading because it states that the diet helped those at risk for
heart disease even if they could not lose weight. To a person who has not read the PREDIMED trial or
does not have a good background in biology, this can be easily misinterpreted that it is okay to be
overweight. In fact, research shows that obesity is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.2,7
Therefore, people who are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease should also give importance to
a good diet as well as a healthy lifestyle and weight management. Other risk factors should also be
eliminated in order to successfully improve cardiovascular health. The media article also mentions the
primary endpoints that were used in the trial. Kolata states that the researchers in the PREDIMED trial
did not look at risk factors such as cholesterol, hypertension, and weight.6 Even though the
researchers did not measure these risk factors at the primary endpoint, they did fill out a baseline
questionnaire prior to participant enrollment relating to these risk factors. The hazard ratios were also
adjusted for these risk factors twice.3 The media article also puts an emphasis on what should be

A Report On Mobile Technology
Mobility is no longer optional in today s world; most enterprises are adopting mobile first strategies to
provide real time information and interactivity to consumers or employees on the go. Enterprise
mobility has seen increased popularity in the last few years, bringing in with it the growing trend of
Bring your own device (BYOD). While BYOD has a host of merits like increased productivity, better
connectivity and less expenditure for enterprises, but there are security risks involved. This is where
mobile management comes into the picture. It is generally an administrative system and service that is
used to encrypt and lock the device, and enforce miscellaneous other BYOD policies. Schneider
Electric BYOD policy is implemented through Airwatch Mobile Device Management (MDM).
Although BYOD adoption is continuously increasing, only 1 percent of Schneider Electric employees
have opted for BYOD enrollment on their personal mobile devices until now. The major factors
contributing to low adoption of BYOD are the concerns and uncertainties around user activity
tracking, logging and potential loss or leakage of personal data. Moreover, the current BYOD
deployment does not support a large variety of popular mobile devices. Due to this, the adoption and
usage of mobile applications via the Internal App Store is also quite low. However, the current BYOD
program is geared towards addressing the enterprise data security concerns, which obviously has
merits, and cannot be overlooked

Dubliners By James Joyce
Dubliners, is a book in which James Joyce takes his readers back to early 20th century Dublin. Joyce s
collection of short stories portrays his homeland, Ireland, at a time of stagnation and the beginning of
the Irish Nationalist Movements, which sought independence from Great Britain. With such
dependence, Ireland and its citizens lives could not move forward and to enliven this condition in his
book Joyce use three great concepts. In the first short story Joyce mentions the words gnomon,
simony, and paralysis, and by doing so he foreshadows the themes of every story and how they are a
close description of Dublin at that time. Joyce use the concept of gnomon to typify incompleteness,
disconnection, and being in the shadow of someone or something, which is a important theme in his
book about the empty and incomplete lives of the Irish. Before meeting the odd old man, the boys
decided to skip school and go looking for adventures like in the Wild West, and the narrator tells: But
when the restraining influence of the school was at a distance I began to hunger again for wild
sensations, for the escape which those chronicles of disorder alone seemed to offer me. The mimic
warfare of the evening became at last as wearisome to me as the routine of school in the morning
because I wanted real adventures to happen to myself. But real adventures, I reflected, do not happen

The Attraction of Men and Women All animals including humans have the ability to be sexually
attractive. This is called sex appeal, the potential to interest or excite others by appearance, style, or

ourselves as attractive as possible to find the perfect mate. Humans attempt to make themselves more
appealing by using the rudimentary skills of staying in shape, dressing well, and smelling decent. But
being sexually attractive has a great deal more to it than just those few things. Studies have shown that
sex appeal is biologically programmed into humans brains. Some senses play an immense role in sex

Cara Di Yanni a psychology professor from Rider University believes that attraction can be based off
more than just genetics. In Ben Moy s article, The science of sex appeal; The ideal man and woman,

attractive, and others are most definitely learned. She gives examples of how men find that women

the capability to give birth. Women tend to be enticed by men with money, and this can explain why
women seem picky. When it comes to women dating they calculate everything about men including
their money. Unlike men, having sex can be pricier for women because they may end up pregnant and
must carry a child for nine months, and care for it years after birth. Women wanting men with money

Coexistence of Equality and Inequality under the Social...
Political theories abound, considering many parts of society and the body politic. John Locke was one
of the first to expound on the origins of property, and sixty six years later Jean Jacques Rousseau
would also address the issues of property and inequality. According to Locke and Rousseau, the social
contract is sanctioned by formal equalities yet creates or gives way to inequalities after it is formed.
Though Locke would argue that inequalities in the private sphere don t fall under the jurisdiction of
the government, Rousseau would say justice gets deformed through inequality. Understanding how
both equality and inequality can be present under the terms of the social contract is important because

Since everything was owned in common at first, Locke argues that individuals appropriate property
when they add their labor to something owned in common and therefore improve it. Locke would also
say that you don t just get to take as much as you want, but that there must be as much of and as good
of left for others. Locke also defines the public and private sphere(how/what is he defining it through?
Through him talking about slavery etc paragraph 85, 89 ). Political relationships are made between
equal men, and these relationships (civil society) cannot be dissolved. The establishment of civil
society established equality among men because each had to agree to it. Each man equally gives up
some rights, and equally receives the same protection from the sovereign. The civil society, as an
entity, makes a contract with the sovereign and in so doing, resigns the power to judge in their own
case to the sovereign. According to Locke, the whole point of civil society was to ensure that each had
their own property so that there was prosperity. For Rousseau, the first sign of inequality is when
people begin to be more highly regarded based on overall physical appearance and ability; from these
first preferences, vanity, contempt, shame, and envy were born. As soon as one man realized it was
beneficial to have the assistance of another, equality disappeared, property came into

The National Association For Music Education
Break Point 4.1
The National Association for Music Education has several general standards put into place (the
National Coalition for Core Arts Standards). These standards center around the theme of music
literacy and attempt to improve the three most important aspects of music learning: creating,
performing, and responding. These aspects are designed to be applied to a student s musical
performance as well as their conduct in the community. The standards are used throughout the United
States, introducing new topics throughout a child s preschool 8th grade education. They are also
provided in small strands throughout high schools. Teachers implement these techniques through the
teaching of theory, music history, collaboration, creating and performing throughout their own
individual curricula. They also have created Model Cornerstone Assessments, which are designed to
measure a student s academic achievement and performance within the Core Arts Standards. As far as
arts in the schools go, NAfME also has several organizations which help to promote music in schools
across America. I believe that having these national requirements is extremely beneficial in that

My Hero
The most important day of my life was the day I lost my hero. He was about six feet tall with brown
hair, chocolate brown eyes, a wide smile and had a huge heart. He wasn t afraid of anything and would
take on the biggest tasks, even if he didn t want to. He would do anything for anyone, especially his
family. There was never a time where he said no. He loved to argue because, like everyone else, he
always had to be right. He was a hero. My hero. I was fortunate enough to call this man my dad.
October 24, 2016, is a day I will never forget. I rolled out of bed that Monday morning from a long,
lonely weekend. I had the house to myself and worked all weekend. My parents were going to see the
Kansas City Chiefs play the New Orleans Saints. My dad wore a Seattle Seahawks jersey to the game
because that s how much he d loved his team. The Seahawks ended up tying with the Cardinals that
day 6 6. I heard my parents walk into the house around midnight. I slightly opened my eyes but fell
asleep again. I woke up at 7:30 that morning, brushed my teeth and got dressed for the day and was
off to another day of senior year. As I was walking out of the door, I noticed his car wasn t in the
driveway. He must have had to work early, I thought. He usually did. As I was walking to my car, I
noticed how beautiful the lawn looked. The red and orange leaves on the ground, and the cool air
brushing against my skin. I wish I could ve stayed in that beautiful moment when everything seemed

The Battle Of Russia Essay
American relation with the USSR were complicated before World War II and made many American s
believe that the Soviet Union was actually an enemy. Yet, something that changed the American s
views on the USSR is because of their relentless struggle to survive and will to fight back to any threat
that faced them. The USSR faced many threats way before World War II. For example, the USSR/
Russia was invaded numerous times by Germany, France, and Mongolia which all resulted in their
defeats. An article written by Walsh describes how the new film titled The Battle of Russia , which
was made by frank Capra, made Americans focus their views on the USSR and how they were
supposed to feel about the USSR during World War II. In Capra s film, he encourages American s ...

Some ways that Capra used to make American s feel better towards their new ally (USSR) by using
certain sounds, music, and commentary. The reason why America wanted its citizens to change their
views toward the USSR is because it contains 1/6 of the world s land and contains many valuable raw
materials such as, oil, wheat, and rich land for farming. In Walsh s article, it states that The Russians
have endured and fought with a valor that demands respect and admiration beyond words, and that the
Germans are a brutal, ruthless enemy who deserve no mercy in the end (Walsh 1). Capra emphasizes
the hardships that the USSR had to endure during World War II. For example, Capra does an excellent
job in encouraging feeling of empathy towards the viewers by explaining the harsh winter. For
instance, the Russians had to endure the blood thirsty Nazi s in 30 degree temperatures, with bare bone
rations of food, disease, and being cut off from certain parts of Russia. Capra also encouraged feelings
of empathy for the USSR by using commentary and images of captured Russians being hung,
slaughtered, and burned

A Worn Path Phoenix Jackson Essay
At the beginning Eudora Welty explains that in the story A Worn Path her character, Phoenix Jackson,
goes on a long journey on foot while also being very old. There are clues that she has been on this
journey several times and the purpose of it is to get medicine for her sick grandson. We are never sure
of the condition of the grandson nor do we see him as a character in the story. In this story the path she
takes what seems like more than a mile walk, but she still pushes through all of the hardships that she
comes across. She meets many characters along her walk like a dog, hunter, lady, attendant, and the
nurse. Her determination is very high, and she seeks to get her job done no matter what happens to
her. The time takes place close to Christmas, which makes this story kind of biblical. The Bible is a
good source to this story because of its reference to Moses and his journeys. They compare Phoenix
Jackson to Moses in many points of the story. Near the beginning, she uses her cane just as Moses
uses his staff to clear a path. Exodus 14:21
22 (King James Version) in The Bible shows when Moses
parted the red sea to clear a path while in A Worn Path Phoenix clears a path to safely walk across the
water. Phoenix is also like Moses because of how she seems as if she is symbolized as a shepherd and
how unafraid she is with God on her side. She puts everyone before her with herself, as show how
little she cares about what happens to her as long as it helps. She is doing

My Experience In My Summer
I can not wait to learn new things in your class this year. I am ready to read lots of new books and
some Shakespeare because I have not read a lot of his work before. I had a great summer full of
family, fun, and travel. My summer was not as interesting as your summer Mrs. Cole, but I sure did
have fun. The first trip I went on this summer was to New Orleans, which was pretty Amazing
because I got to walk down the historic streets of the world famous French Quarter. I have not been to
New Orleans since I was 4 years old with my whole family, but this time my parents and I were the
only ones who went. On the first day we went to Café Du Monde, which is an original French market
stand that has been around since 1862. The best part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Overall Las Vegas was probably the best part of my summer and I am lucky to have an amazing
family to enjoy it with. Other than the two trips I went on this summer, I did not do a lot because my
parents were busy with work and my sister was busy with summer classes. I was busy every morning
for football though because we had to be at Braden River every morning at 7:30. The only good part
about waking up early was that when I was done I still had most of the day to go fishing or do
anything. Workouts really help out at the beginning of the season though because it makes us ready
and strong for the whole season. Besides having football every morning, I went fishing a lot over the
summer in lakes around my neighborhood. I at least caught around 30 bass this summer because I was
mostly fishing this summer when I had nothing else to do. The only boring thing I had to do this
summer was taking drivers ed online, so I am prepared to take my permit test when I turn 15. The
whole summer was filled with fun, but it seemed like it went by very fast. The only reason it probably
went by fast was because time flys when your having fun. With all the fun happening this year my dog
probably had the least amount of fun because while we were on vacation he was at the vet. I have a
miniature Dachshund and he is my sisters little angel because he will follow her where ever she goes.
The worst part about the end of summer is that my sister Kiana has to go back to

The Health Of The Livestock Production Of Poultry Carrying...
The Acute phase proteins are produced as the develop of a response caused after a variety of
conditions stimulated by inflammatory cells producing chemical substances that activate specific
organs to produce these proteins to reconstitute homeostasis and thus restore the injured tissue. Even
though the Acute Phase Response generated is not specific for each determined disease, the
measurement of these proteins in an animal may indicate the occurrence of an unhealthy condition,
and a further diagnosis and prognosis of the illness could be accomplish. Regarding veterinary public
health, the livestock production represents a significant field from where products for human
consumption are provided. Thus, the measurement of these proteins in ... Show more content on

These are plasma proteins which are released into the blood stream, mainly produced in the liver by
the hepatocytes (Cray et al., 2009) as part of the Acute Phase Response (APR), that either increase or
decrease in response to the tissue damage (Jain et al., 2011; Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005). The APR
is a non specific and complex systemic reaction, part of the early defense or innate immune system,
which is triggered by different stimuli such as infections, trauma and inflammations in order to
reconstitute homeostasis and induce healing (Cray et al., 2009; Tothova et al., 2014). As well as in
humans, APP in animals are sensitive to similar triggering events in response to inflammatory stimuli.
A variety of APP have been recorded, such as: fibrinogen, haptoglobin (HP), serum amyloid A (SAA);
C reactive protein (CRP); ceruloplasmin (CER), major acute phase protein (MAP) and α1 acid
glycoprotein (AGP) (Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005); differentiating their levels according to each
species (Cray et al., 2009; Eckersall and Bell, 2010). Thus, APP have been described for their
application in human medicine to diagnose and prognosticate different inflammatory and organ
diseases. However; altered levels of APP monitored in animals might provide an alternative method to
measure conditions or situations that may be influencing the concentration of these proteins in plasma
(Tothova et al., 2014). For instance, in livestock; APP have been presented as markers of health

  • 2. Essay on Racism and the Enslavement of African Americans Racism and the Enslavement of African Americans Did Racism cause enslavement of African Americans? To answer this question you have to determine what a slave is? And what Racism is? By my views and believes, slavery is any type of duty somebody does for you. You own them so they work for you otherwise they will get punished. Now Racism is a negative attitude towards another race. After these to words are cleared up you come to a conclusion that racism in the 17th century caused enslavement of African Americans. To believe this you have to look at the history left for us to read. The court papers, and journals of people back in the 17th century. John Punch was one the three servants working for a farmer and ran away to Maryland. Two were white; one was black. They were captured in Maryland and returned to Jamestown, where the court sentenced all three to thirty lashes. This was considered a severe punishment even by the standards of 17th century. The two white men were sentenced to an additional four years of servitude. The strong punishment for whites, but in addition to the whipping, the black man John Punch was ordered to serve his master or his assigns for the time of his natural Life here or elsewhere. (C Degler pg 65) Because he was a different color John Punch no longer had hope for freedom. Why, because he was African and was braking the law of the land at the time. The grounds for this harsh sentence presumably lay in the fact that he was non Christian rather than in the fact that he was physically dark. But religious beliefs could change, while skin color could not. Within a generation race, religion was not being made the defining characteristic of enslaved Africans. Because the defining characteristics of Africans it lead to the terrible transformation to racial slavery. What were needed in Jamestown were laborers. Or what we call slaves to clear fields, to plant and harvest crops. During the 1620s and 1630s, when the price of tobacco was high and English workers had too few jobs available at home, Jamestown offered jobs to the few English workers that came over. The era that this piece most represents is the Eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries of art in Europe and North America. This is because of the brief use of nudity and the use of children that are shown as little angels. The artist also used a sense of time and motion. It is as if the figures in the piece are moving themselves. The use of 3 D and kinetics allows this sense of movement in this piece. Also the artist used repetition and rhythm. The viewer s eye is constantly moving because of this sense of repetition and rhythm My personal thoughts to this piece of art is in all honestly a sense of confusion. Overall I like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The era this piece most represents is the Renaissance art in the fifteenth century Italy. It goes best with this era because of its use of nudity and shape and lighting. Its use of space of sharp edges and sculpture figures. Also the use of lighting shows an almost 3 D like image. Even though this is a print it almost seems like a picture of statues. The artist also used a sense of scale and proportion in this piece. Every statue is differently scaled from the others. The body parts on each statue did not quite fit with the other body parts. Every statue is different in size, stance, and color. Also the background behind each figure is different from the other ones, in its use of color and detail. I am very fond of this work of art. The way every part of it is different and that there is no pattern and nothing is the same really intrudes me. The detail on each figure is incredibly real. The fact that someone did this in today s world is also extremely interesting. (2015) the genogram and ecomap may be defined as a visual tool for exploring a client s social relationships across time. Typically, these are familial relationships. In general, the genogram is useful in gathering information, understanding relationship dynamics and behavioral patterns, promoting the client s self understanding, conducting assessments, and guiding the practitioner to interventions (Pope, N. D., Lee, J.,2015). Social workers use genograms to gather information like values and ethics. Genograms and Ecomaps are great assessment tools to reduce resistance as family members can see connections, concerns, and family patterns. Lessing turns Jerry s and his mother s relaxing vacation into a serious one with the tools of symbolism to unveil the hidden message of the rocky bay and the tunnel, vivid imagery of the tunnel, as well as similes and personification regarding Jerry s attitude towards the adventure; moreover, the author creates an overall tone of determination and wonder to help construct the well known theme of never giving up. It is safe to assume the rocky bay and the tunnel both symbolize very important aspects in this short story. The rocky bay could be said to symbolize a turning point in Jerry s life. • 10. The Elderly Population In the beginning, when I began brainstorming about this competency I felt as if it was a demand need for everyone to be aware about. I have seen individuals being decline of services for a variety of reasons, and it makes earning those services harder when they aren t within personal reach. I witnessed this during my placement, as well as my personal life. During my placement, I realized that the elderly population still often have the chance to be denied for services, support and have their rights being acknowledged. There are several things that I know about this competency while interning at Lutheran Social Services. Oppression and discrimination happens in a range of ways and sometimes it doesn t exactly present itself as those actions. Elderly still have a voice to advocate for their needs, but sometimes I feel as if it can be taken less seriously compared to other populations. Therefore, we have to engage in understanding what we have to do by taking action in a political sense where we have to put others needs and advocate what we believe in for those to get proper rights as well. Overall, if someone needs aren t being addressed, we must empower them to help serve them to give them justice as well. Seamus Heaney s Blackberry-Picking We all have childhood memories that we can reflect on and feel a sense of happiness, but some memories we can look back in disgust at the competency we had as children through silly accomplishments that we had been praised for. In Blackberry Picking, by Seamus Heaney uses symbolism and diction to suggest power and repugnance as the poem s tone as a means to emphasize the narrator s success that he felt while picking blackberries, as well as compare the gruesomeness of Bluebeard to the senses brought forth by the harvesting of the first blackberry. The author writes about the narrator eating the blackberries using gruesome words such as, clot, flesh, and blood, to give the reader a negative connotation towards the taste and texture of the berries. Heaney compares the hands of the children to Bluebeard, a fairy tale character who killed all of his wives; he uses references to gore to exemplify the comparison between Bluebeard and the berries that stain the narrator s hands. • 12. Kritios Boy Essay Created sometime around 480 BCE, the marble sculpture Kritios Boy is a significant piece of ancient Greek art. Although it was recovered in a mutilated state over one thousand years after its creation, the sculpture still manages to showcase detail of the human body in a more naturalized form than the similar pieces of art that had came before. This piece of artwork was created at a very busy time in Greek history. Greece was in the midst of a war with Persia, and Athens was a pre Socratic society that was nearing the height of interest in philosophy. With that came the quest to identify mankind s natural identity. The results of this quest was displayed in many pieces of artwork. Kritios Boy was sculpted in the figure of a human male, and was quite distinct from similar pieces of artwork of earlier Greek and Egyptian history. Kouros, from only forty five years prior to Kritios Boy, was much more closely related to the heavily idealized Egyptian sculptures like the Triad of Mycerinas. Looking up through the torso, one will see that the hips are not aligned, contributing to the more relaxed and natural stance. This showcases the progress made in the quest to represent the natural body, as it is a very common way for humans to stand. • 13. Stereotypes In High School High school is full of a variety of types of people, who can all be labeled into certain groups or stereotypes. High school can be an amazing time for people, just as easily as it could be a terrible time for people. It s quite odd how everyone goes to the same school, and mostly attend the same courses, yet they are significantly different from one another. Every school has the classic jocks, nerds, partiers/stoners, etc., but it appears our generation has created several new stereotypes. With students spending approximately 35 hours a week at school, it is easy for one another to label each other, and determine who they fit in with. The most common stereotype in Spring Lake is the Preppy Rich Kid. The Preppy part of these kids is that they love to wear a perfectly matching outfit; including their colorful Polo Shirts/t shirts, colorful short shorts, matching socks, with a matching pair of boat shoes/skate shoes. The Rich part of these kids is that they live in a big house on the water, their parents have high paying jobs, and their parents will buy them whatever they desire. These kids typically drive an expensive foreign car, usually blaring rap music out of their car s subwoofer everyday to school. Once they have arrived at school, most of them have a very enjoyable day. For the most part, they have a perfect life, including getting all the girls/boys, receiving good grades, being attractive, and being a phenomenal athlete. These kids are likable people, and ... Gabriel García Márquez s One Hundred Years of Solitude By far, Garcia Marquez s most acclaimed work is Cien Anos de Soledad or One Hundred Years of Solitude. As Regina Janes asserts, his fellow novelists recognized in the novel a brilliant evocation of many of their own concerns: a total novel that treated Latin America socially, historically, politically, mythically, and epically, that was at once accessible and intricate, lifelike and self consciously, self referentially fictive. lt;4 gt; In it, the totality of Latin American society and history is expressed. Gabriel Garcia Marquez has dealt with historical themes in several of his fictions, but in One Hundred Years of Solitude, the author makes a statement about history and the importance of historical consciousness. In this paper, the view of history expressed by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in One Hundred Years of Solitude will be the focus. Circularity and Repetition History is represented in two different ways in One Hundred Years of Solitude: the way in which the characters experience it, and the method in which it actually develops. The characters are caught between the pressures of past and present, and from their perspective everything is repeating itself cyclically. [They] see the past in general as part of the circular pattern of recurring events and in particular, as filled with negative personal experiences which they do everything possible to repress. lt;6 gt; This presentation of time and history as repetitious is obvious to the reader, but she would be deceived to believe it is the way in which history really is progressing. Still, the cyclic structure of the novel is an important part of its historical analysis. • 17. Individualism Individualism TShifting to a more contemporary lense, Libertarian s ultimate priority of individual rights has evolved in present day America into a set of supplementary values called individualism. Although this principle is never mentioned in Hospers paper, his positions stated on personal liberties and self preservation serve as the foundation for this idea, which extends these rights to be applicable as a lifestyle where every decision is made strictly for someone s own personal benefit. (Boaz) Unsurprisingly, individualism also entails a resistance to all type of restrictive measures by authoritative powers, especially the obligation to provide assistance to another citizen financially or otherwise. (Boaz) In the Libertarian view, nobody should be forced to even tell someone the time of day if requested against their will. (Hospers, 331) In this sense, Individualism can be seen as the active exercise one s individual liberties. Furthermore, according to David Boaz of the Libertarian think tank The Cato Institute, individualism also gives a person the power to flourish on their own terms, and can also provide a sense of dignity , especially to underrepresented groups. (Boaz) Whether or not by design, this Libertarian emphasis on individualism is a theme that has become heavily ingrained into contemporary American life as the culture, economics, and politics of the country all have elements of this value. I believe the legal voting age of eighteen needs to stay how it is because younger voters already have a small outcome of voters and a voter younger than eighteen isn t truly an adult. If we change the voting age now it will only hurt than help. There is only 38% of younger population that did vote in 2012. So if there isn t a difference in age the numbers will still be very small. Letting people a couple years younger vote, won t help boost the participation, but make the younger voters have even lower voting rates. • 31. The Political Frame Essay Buck Morss argues in The Political Frame that those societies claiming to be democratic often operate with power out of control of the masses. This wild zone is above the law, because it is a function of the state that makes the law. This relates to Buck Morss next point on the issue of sovereignty and legitimacy of a state. According to the nation state societies, the state monopoly on violence is legitimate because it is operated by legislation. The laws are written by those elected by the people, therefore popular sovereignty and popular will are the same. However, this fails to explain the violence and is an unsteady point. The state is both defender and creator of law, and therefore shifts that power towards itself. According to the class warfare model, the violence is explained by the revolution and the constant struggle between classes. This, however, does not explain its legitimacy. As precisely expressed by Erik Erikson, In the social jungle of human existence, there is no feeling of being alive without a sense of identity. As defined by Merriam Webster, identity is The distinguishing character or personality of an individual. However, this definition falls short of the true meaning of the word, as it does not openly state the deciding factor for the perception of a person s identity. For this reason, it is necessary to redefine the word in order to properly convey its meaning to those that do not fully understand it, as well as clarify by whom it is ascertained. Identity is how one perceives oneself, based primarily on the behaviors exhibited by this person. A more precise definition of identity could not have been taught to me any better than by my first venture from the state of Iowa to the valley town of Estes Park, Colorado. For a reason I still do not understand in its entirety, it brought me to better understand myself by truly comprehending in what esteem I hold myself, and perhaps what I one day strive to achieve. Understanding how both equality and inequality can be present under the terms of the social contract is important because we cannot understand how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since everything was owned in common at first, Locke argues that individuals appropriate property when they add their labor to something owned in common and therefore improve it. Locke would also say that you don t just get to take as much as you want, but that there must be as much of and as good of left for others. Locke also defines the public and private sphere(how/what is he defining it through? Through him talking about slavery etc paragraph 85, 89 ). Political relationships are made between equal men, and these relationships (civil society) cannot be dissolved. The establishment of civil society established equality among men because each had to agree to it. Each man equally gives up some rights, and equally receives the same protection from the sovereign. The civil society, as an entity, makes a contract with the sovereign and in so doing, resigns the power to judge in their own case to the sovereign. According to Locke, the whole point of civil society was to ensure that each had their own property so that there was prosperity. For Rousseau, the first sign of inequality is when people begin to be more highly regarded based on overall physical appearance and ability; from these first preferences, vanity, contempt, shame, and envy were born. As soon as one man realized it was beneficial to have the assistance of another, equality disappeared, property came into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The National Association For Music Education Break Point 4.1 The National Association for Music Education has several general standards put into place (the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards). These standards center around the theme of music literacy and attempt to improve the three most important aspects of music learning: creating, performing, and responding. These aspects are designed to be applied to a student s musical performance as well as their conduct in the community. The standards are used throughout the United States, introducing new topics throughout a child s preschool 8th grade education. They are also provided in small strands throughout high schools. Teachers implement these techniques through the teaching of theory, music history, collaboration, creating and performing throughout their own individual curricula. They also have created Model Cornerstone Assessments, which are designed to measure a student s academic achievement and performance within the Core Arts Standards. As far as arts in the schools go, NAfME also has several organizations which help to promote music in schools across America. I believe that having these national requirements is extremely beneficial in that students across America will be learning similar concepts in the same efficient manner, giving each individual student an opportunity to thrive as well as any other fellow American student. I do think, though, that there should be ways for these codes can be more enforced, as I had never really heard of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. My Hero The most important day of my life was the day I lost my hero. He was about six feet tall with brown hair, chocolate brown eyes, a wide smile and had a huge heart. He wasn t afraid of anything and would take on the biggest tasks, even if he didn t want to. He would do anything for anyone, especially his family. There was never a time where he said no. He loved to argue because, like everyone else, he always had to be right. He was a hero. My hero. I was fortunate enough to call this man my dad. October 24, 2016, is a day I will never forget. I rolled out of bed that Monday morning from a long, lonely weekend. I had the house to myself and worked all weekend. My parents were going to see the Kansas City Chiefs play the New Orleans Saints. My dad wore a Seattle Seahawks jersey to the game because that s how much he d loved his team. The Seahawks ended up tying with the Cardinals that day 6 6. I heard my parents walk into the house around midnight. I slightly opened my eyes but fell asleep again. I woke up at 7:30 that morning, brushed my teeth and got dressed for the day and was off to another day of senior year. As I was walking out of the door, I noticed his car wasn t in the driveway. He must have had to work early, I thought. He usually did. As I was walking to my car, I noticed how beautiful the lawn looked. The red and orange leaves on the ground, and the cool air brushing against my skin. I wish I could ve stayed in that beautiful moment when everything seemed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Battle Of Russia Essay American relation with the USSR were complicated before World War II and made many American s believe that the Soviet Union was actually an enemy. Yet, something that changed the American s views on the USSR is because of their relentless struggle to survive and will to fight back to any threat that faced them. The USSR faced many threats way before World War II. For example, the USSR/ Russia was invaded numerous times by Germany, France, and Mongolia which all resulted in their defeats. An article written by Walsh describes how the new film titled The Battle of Russia , which was made by frank Capra, made Americans focus their views on the USSR and how they were supposed to feel about the USSR during World War II. Some ways that Capra used to make American s feel better towards their new ally (USSR) by using certain sounds, music, and commentary. The reason why America wanted its citizens to change their views toward the USSR is because it contains 1/6 of the world s land and contains many valuable raw materials such as, oil, wheat, and rich land for farming. In Walsh s article, it states that The Russians have endured and fought with a valor that demands respect and admiration beyond words, and that the Germans are a brutal, ruthless enemy who deserve no mercy in the end (Walsh 1). Capra emphasizes the hardships that the USSR had to endure during World War II. For example, Capra does an excellent job in encouraging feeling of empathy towards the viewers by explaining the harsh winter. For instance, the Russians had to endure the blood thirsty Nazi s in 30 degree temperatures, with bare bone rations of food, disease, and being cut off from certain parts of Russia. Capra also encouraged feelings of empathy for the USSR by using commentary and images of captured Russians being hung, slaughtered, and burned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. A Worn Path Phoenix Jackson Essay At the beginning Eudora Welty explains that in the story A Worn Path her character, Phoenix Jackson, goes on a long journey on foot while also being very old. There are clues that she has been on this journey several times and the purpose of it is to get medicine for her sick grandson. We are never sure of the condition of the grandson nor do we see him as a character in the story. In this story the path she takes what seems like more than a mile walk, but she still pushes through all of the hardships that she comes across. She meets many characters along her walk like a dog, hunter, lady, attendant, and the nurse. Her determination is very high, and she seeks to get her job done no matter what happens to her. The time takes place close to Christmas, which makes this story kind of biblical. The Bible is a good source to this story because of its reference to Moses and his journeys. They compare Phoenix Jackson to Moses in many points of the story. Near the beginning, she uses her cane just as Moses uses his staff to clear a path. Exodus 14:21 22 (King James Version) in The Bible shows when Moses parted the red sea to clear a path while in A Worn Path Phoenix clears a path to safely walk across the water. Phoenix is also like Moses because of how she seems as if she is symbolized as a shepherd and how unafraid she is with God on her side. She puts everyone before her with herself, as show how little she cares about what happens to her as long as it helps. She is doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. My Experience In My Summer I can not wait to learn new things in your class this year. I am ready to read lots of new books and some Shakespeare because I have not read a lot of his work before. I had a great summer full of family, fun, and travel. My summer was not as interesting as your summer Mrs. Cole, but I sure did have fun. The first trip I went on this summer was to New Orleans, which was pretty Amazing because I got to walk down the historic streets of the world famous French Quarter. I have not been to New Orleans since I was 4 years old with my whole family, but this time my parents and I were the only ones who went. On the first day we went to Café Du Monde, which is an original French market stand that has been around since 1862. The best part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall Las Vegas was probably the best part of my summer and I am lucky to have an amazing family to enjoy it with. Other than the two trips I went on this summer, I did not do a lot because my parents were busy with work and my sister was busy with summer classes. I was busy every morning for football though because we had to be at Braden River every morning at 7:30. The only good part about waking up early was that when I was done I still had most of the day to go fishing or do anything. Workouts really help out at the beginning of the season though because it makes us ready and strong for the whole season. Besides having football every morning, I went fishing a lot over the summer in lakes around my neighborhood. I at least caught around 30 bass this summer because I was mostly fishing this summer when I had nothing else to do. The only boring thing I had to do this summer was taking drivers ed online, so I am prepared to take my permit test when I turn 15. The whole summer was filled with fun, but it seemed like it went by very fast. The only reason it probably went by fast was because time flys when your having fun. With all the fun happening this year my dog probably had the least amount of fun because while we were on vacation he was at the vet. I have a miniature Dachshund and he is my sisters little angel because he will follow her where ever she goes. The worst part about the end of summer is that my sister Kiana has to go back to ... The Acute phase proteins are produced as the develop of a response caused after a variety of conditions stimulated by inflammatory cells producing chemical substances that activate specific organs to produce these proteins to reconstitute homeostasis and thus restore the injured tissue. Even though the Acute Phase Response generated is not specific for each determined disease, the measurement of these proteins in an animal may indicate the occurrence of an unhealthy condition, and a further diagnosis and prognosis of the illness could be accomplish. Regarding veterinary public health, the livestock production represents a significant field from where products for human consumption are provided. Thus, the measurement of these proteins in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are plasma proteins which are released into the blood stream, mainly produced in the liver by the hepatocytes (Cray et al., 2009) as part of the Acute Phase Response (APR), that either increase or decrease in response to the tissue damage (Jain et al., 2011; Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005). The APR is a non specific and complex systemic reaction, part of the early defense or innate immune system, which is triggered by different stimuli such as infections, trauma and inflammations in order to reconstitute homeostasis and induce healing (Cray et al., 2009; Tothova et al., 2014). As well as in humans, APP in animals are sensitive to similar triggering events in response to inflammatory stimuli. A variety of APP have been recorded, such as: fibrinogen, haptoglobin (HP), serum amyloid A (SAA); C reactive protein (CRP); ceruloplasmin (CER), major acute phase protein (MAP) and α1 acid glycoprotein (AGP) (Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005); differentiating their levels according to each species (Cray et al., 2009; Eckersall and Bell, 2010). Thus, APP have been described for their application in human medicine to diagnose and prognosticate different inflammatory and organ diseases. However; altered levels of APP monitored in animals might provide an alternative method to measure conditions or situations that may be influencing the concentration of these proteins in plasma (Tothova et al., 2014). For instance, in livestock; APP have been presented as markers of health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
