Cango Week 1 and 2 Analysis Essay examples
Week 1 Clip 1
Scenario:
Julian, the President of the Hudson Valley Business Association, places a phone call to Liz to inform
her she has been nominate the Regions Business Leader of the Year and that she will be expected to
deliver a speech at the next Association meeting about the How and why of CanGo s success . During
the conversation Julian goes on to describe Cango as the Fastest Growing Company in the Hudson
Valley and as a Success Story. Liz is obviously flattered and elated by this news and it becomes
apparent how much this company and its success means to her and the fact that somebody has
recognized all the effort that has been put into building this company. Following this interchange we

Her employee then makes the statement, You re a hit, you can move on from here. To which Liz
responds Hindsight is always 20/20.
Analysis:
Liz definitely needed to plan ahead for her presentation to the Hudson Valley Business Association.
Her speech made her lack of knowledge obvious to all the business leaders present at the meeting and
may have exposed the weaknesses to her competition. On the other hand, after returning to her office
Liz did handle the criticism very well, she was open, honest and direct with her coworker in
discussing the issues with her speech. It was a great testament to management that this employee felt
at liberty to be direct with Liz, there are few companies which can claim the same open door success.
This employee did a great job of outlining her concerns but ended up dismissing her entire argument
with the statement You re a hit, you can move on from here. This is a little discouraging because it
indicates that Liz s downfall with planning and strategy is being approved and affirmed by her
employee base, this is dangerous for a company.
Week 1 Clip 3
Scenario:
CanGo management is called into a meeting where Liz briefly introduces the idea of entering CanGo
in the online gaming market. Andrew then takes over the meeting concerning this endeavor, he gives
very few details but he is passionate, excited about this prospect and he does a great job of preventing

Narrative About Soccer
Juan get up! , my mom yelled, It s time for school! I don t want to go to school! , I replied. If you don

part of the day school, but today will be a bit better because we have the Iowa Soccer State
Championship which is the biggest soccer game you can play in Iowa. Out of all the teams our team
the Raiders and our rivals the Pelicans made it to the championship. The Pelicans and us go to the

Billy dribbled so fast the our defenders could not keep up with him. He took the shot and it was the
first goal of the game. It looked like it was going to be a long day for our team as Billy quickly scored
another goal now it is 2 0. We kicked it off with a simple pass to Steve who took that opportunity to
use his skills to dribble past the defenders to score the wonderful goal to put us back in the game. Now
Billy has the ball going full speed and takes the shot but was barely saved but our goalkeeper. The
goalkeeper tossed the ball to a defender who made a perfect pass to Steve. Steve had a wide open shot
for the goal if he dribbled in just a bit more. Then all of a sudden, as Steve takes the shot Billy comes
in and runs into Steve, but the ball was already in the air and went right past the goalkeeper to score.
Steve laid on the ground in brutal pain. Rolling on the ground holding his knee. The coaches and
medics ran out on to the field and the referee gave Billy a yellow card which was a warning. The
crowd yelled frustrated at the call. Meanwhile The medics got Steve off the field. The coach came
over to me and told me that it was my time to shine. I ran out on to the field with only ten or eight
minutes left I wasn t sure. On the kick off Billy got the ball and came at me as fast as he could I
moved out of the way and kicked the ball out of his control to one of our defenders. The defender pass

Mere Christianity
In C.S Lewis novel, Mere Christianity, he dives into the differences that can be within a moral code,
while also proving that they are all the same that the base. Lewis also tries to answer a question that
does not have a simple and clear cut answer: why do we feel bad when we misbehave, if everyone
misbehaves?
Early in book one, the focus is on what we feel and what those emotions mean. He uses an example of
hearing someone call for help. There would be three feelings. First, a desire to help. Second, a desire
to keep out of danger. And third, a gut feeling that the first desire is right and the second desire is
wrong. Therefore, morality may be related to instinct, but it is not a one to one result of it. Also, there
is no instinct that is moral all the time without fail, further proving that instinct does not equal
morality. One example that resonated the most while going through this book was Lewis point bout
the Salem witch trials and how one can use this to argue the consistency, or lack thereof, of morality.
One could say that these trials are proof how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explains that Christianity is not meant to be simple or generic. Some critics of the religion
complain that it is too complicated, but there is then the follow up point that life is not simple, so why
should religion be? Christianity forces people to put trust in the unpredictable, and sometimes makes
them act outside of their instinct. For most of the second book, Lewis goes very deep into the
fundamentals of Christianity and what he believes. He has many viewpoints that are not widely
accepted in the general world of faith, but it most definitely makes the brain work a little harder. He
explains his reasoning behind some of these rules and views in book three of the novel, and he also
works through some of the stereotypes of the

Zika Virus Papers
The Zika Virus When people think of the word epidemic , they generally imagine a widespread
disease that threatens humanity as a whole. While most of the hysteria associated with pandemics
stem purely from fiction, it can be understandable why people always fear the worst. That is why
when an outbreak of the Zika Virus was reported in the United States, an overall feeling of malaise set
in. As of September 21, 2016, a total of 3,358 cases of the Zika Virus have been reported ( Center for
Disease Control and Prevention ). Though the numbers are alarming, there is no need for a national
quarantine or emergency evacuation. In reality, the Zika Virus is not as intimidating as society puts it

As of now, there is no official vaccine for Zika. Instead, a patient that has the contagion must undergo
certain treatments. Fortunately, the remedies for the virus are simple and cheap. If infection occurs, it
is vital to get an abundance of rest and liquids; medication is also advised to assist in alleviating pain.
The treatments for Zika are straightforward because the disease itself is rather mild. In fact, in most
reported cases of the virus in the United States, the illness only lasted approximately two to seven
days prior to the first set of symptoms ( World Health Organization ). It is evident that the fear
associated with the Zika Virus is slightly exaggerated. Currently, there is only one recorded fatality in
the United States that is directly related to Zika ( The Washington Post ). This is mainly because first
world countries medical programs are advanced enough to effectively treat the virus. The standard of
living in these countries are also higher compared to third world countries. That is why Zika has
claimed a significant amount of lives worldwide; the poor conditions in these countries make it
difficult for infected individuals to get proper

some of the major financial conglomerates collapse, when Wall Street carries some negative

aspects of this business and bring more value to the clients. OK, Let s get back to the original

in case their opinion differs from your advice... I always applaud when my existing or potential clients

The Analysis of the Five Factor Model Essay examples
The Analysis of the Five Factor Model
In this essay, first the Five Factor Model (FFM) will be described. Secondly, psychologists for and
against the model will be looked at. Following this, the stability of traits will be looked at, both
longitudinal and cross situational. Finally, the application of the model within and outside psychology
will be evaluated to show support that the FFM provides a solid foundation for an adequate
personality psychology.
The Five Factor Model provides a compelling framework for building personality measures that seek
to represent the domain of individual terms broadly and systematically (Briggs, 1989 as cited in
McAdams. DP, 1992, p. 332). The FFM consists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a lot of support for the FFM and its solid foundation for an adequate personality psychology
including consistency in results from different researchers using different methods, the stability of the
five factors and its application both within and outside of psychology.
Two psychologists that support the validity of the FFM are Eysenck and Cattell. Eysenck s PEN
model includes only three factors (extraversion, neuroticism and psychoticism) but with a similar
hierarchal structure as the FFM. That is that individuals can rate from extremes on each factor. He
used the statistical measurement of factor analysis that identifies patterns and correlations of words,
once and then again resulting in what are known as the three superfactors. Eysenck also believed that
the basic factors of personality have a biological basis. For example, one hypothesis was that
introverts are characterised by higher levels of cortical arousal than extraverts (Eysenck, 1967 as cited
in Eysenck. HJ, 1981). EEG measures by Savage (cited in Eysenck. HJ, 1981), which are a reliable
and scientific method of research, confirmed this hypothesis. This supports psychologists Costa and
McCrae s Five Factor Theory that the five factors have dispositional tendencies and that every
individual s personality matures intrinsically around these five factors.

The Burgermeister s Daughter Essay Topics
Steven Ozment. The Burgermeisters Daughter. New York: Harper Collins, 1996. Pp. 227.
The Burgermeister s Daughter, written by Steven Ozment, illustrates the scandalous life of a young
woman in sixteenth century Germany. Anna Buschler, the burgermeister s daughter, lived a
troublesome life in the German city of Schwabisch Hall, where she spent the majority of her life,
while still moving from town to town. While the book surrounds the life of Anna Buschler, it also
gives insight to many other historical topics going on in the time of her life, which feed into the
reasoning of how Anna was treated. While the book at the beginning shows the mishaps and
discourages Anna s wrongdoings, we later find out many topics of discussion which led her ... Show

Because her father had such a high standing and proud nature within the city, Anna s romances with
the two men were sought to be terminated by both her father as well as these other councilmen. Anna
was also accused of stealing from her father, taking money, wine, and sold other possessions of his for
a sum of money in order to buy things for herself, and keep her rendezvous with her lovers a secret.
And her father and brother were the ones who discovered, confiscated, and preserved the extremely
rare cache of her love letters (3). This was ultimately the fall of Anna s character, as her father then
attacked her, banished her from his home, and took away her inheritance, which would start the legal
battle with her father and other family members for many years to come (2). Anna would take this
court case to her grave as it would never be settled, and she would go through many misfortunes while
trying to gain the legal right to her inheritance. From birth till around the time her mother died, Anna
Buschler lived a normal life as the daughter of a wealthy bourgeoisie class member. Through the
research of Anna s life, Ozment was able to tell of how previous to her engagements with her father,
she lived a routine life, sent to learn how to run a household in which would be suitable for her future

David And Goliath Research Paper
In the story of David and Goliath, David youngest son of Jesse is the story of an army that was bound

good armor and was prepared to fight the Israelites. Goliath was a part of the philistine army. And the
Philistine army was prepared way more than the Israelites and they both gather to camp out on either
sides of a deep valley. While camped Goliath mocked the Israelites and their army. David was sent to
give food to the Israel army. In doing so heard Goliath William Harkey: William Harkey: Last Name 2

California Musical Instruments
Despite their failure to convert them religiously through music, the natives were left with a Spanish
influence because even after secularization they continued to use European instruments such as:
Violins, violas, and guitars (Ray and Engbeck 1974:16) and most stopped using native instruments.
Because of this neglect, there only remains fragmentary evidence outside of a few early ethnographies
and written descriptions of events in the California missions on native music, while several hundred
European style musical instruments were being played in California. (Ray and Engbeck 1974:15)

But the musicians and singers were in the worst position because their abilities proved to be nearly

completely unlike those that translated well into this new society physical labor jobs such as being a
vaquero or simply knowing how to work with animals and agriculture. This lack of easy transition to
the Mexican Californio society may have actually helped solidify Spanish influence over those
involved in mission music. This inability to survive outside of the missions forced them to continue
practicing their abilities in the parish churches, while some of them embraced their situations. This
was most true for the choristers who persevered in practicing their new religion and remained loyal to

Ted Talk
What exactly is considered a real word and what s not?
Is the English language being looked down upon due to the way newer generation are using the
language?
These are some of the questions that come up when I saw the Ted Talk What makes a word real ? by
Anne Curzan. Due to new generations, society have been using words or phrases that many elders
would find it as degrading the English language. As new generations come, older generations would
disapprove on how the English language is being used. New words are being made up, and the use of
speaking is being used as improper . However who determines the proper way of speaking?
In a Ted Talk discussing the usage of the English language, What makes a word real ? by Anne

Which was the word YOLO, you only live once, an acronym that became a popular slang word in

There is a variety of English, for example colloquialism. Colloquialism and slang may seem similar to
a certain extent. These words are alike because they both mean a word or phrase that is not formal or

It was stated in SEC filings that Gates had become increasingly dissatisfied with the financial
performance of Six Flags over the past five years. He expressed intent to discuss with the Six Flag s
board the company s strategic decision making and recent financial and operating performance. (p. 32

By 2006, after eight straight years of showing a loss, the debt from their spending spree on
acquisitions was becoming too much to handle, and Six Flags was not bringing in the revenue to meet
loan payments and cover expenses. Six Flags was forced to look at reducing assets in the form of
selling selected parks to competitors and using the funds received to pay down part of the $2.1 billion
debt to $1.6 billion. Under speculation of the asset liquidations, credit default swaps began showing a
positive trend. You re seeing an anticipation of an asset sale from Six Flags and that the asset sale will
be announced sooner than later, said Leslie Finerman, a credit analyst with New York based hedge
fund BlueMountain Capital Management, The reaction in the credit default swap market is a little
overdone, she said. The company still has a lot of problems and a lot of wood to chop. (Harrington

Everything roots from the family unit and this can t be ignored. Yoruba families are, like most african
families, dominated by the father. Where the difference lies is the children have a relationship with
their father that emphasis love. The dynamic between love and respect are the differences between the
two groups. Children call their father by gentle names and there s a rigorous amount of cultural
niceties and traditions that children are to learn when interacting with adults. Igbo: Family life is also
the foundation of Igbo culture. More so than Yoruba culture is the power the father has over the
family. Igbo fathers emphasis respect more than love though I wouldn t say the love is more or less in
the cultures. It s more common for igbo children to call their father s more authoritative names like sir,
and culturally there s an element of respective distance. I ve seen yoruba families eat from the same
plate and children sitting among adults while they speak. In Igbo culture if you wish to eat with your

Prophets Are A Catalyst For Change
1) Prophets played such an important role in the time of the Old testament. It is because of these
prophets, that we have so much of our prophetic literature through the Old Testament today. They
played an integral role throughout the life and history of Israel. We can see through numerous
situations throughout the Old Testament that the prophets were a catalyst for change occurring in the
land/people of Israel. According to David L. Peterson in his book, The Prophetic Literature , a reason
as to why there were prophets that arose in the time and land of Israel, is because its said that the
prophets were fundamentally important in understanding the history and value of Israel, and that the
activeness of the prophets showed God s concern for His people . We see that the word prophet , in the
Greek language actually means to foresee . This in time brought about issues in regards to whether or
not the prophets weren t just prophets, but could be providing some sort of witchcraft. But in actual
fact, the prophets within the Old testament tended to not only speak about the future, but noted
circumstances that occurred in the past and that reeled on into their present time. As we move forward
in time from the times of the prophets, we can see the necessity of having the prophets in the land, life
and people of Israel. Prophets at times came under four different titles or labels in the Old Testament.
Seer , diviner , man of God , and prophet . Throughout different

How Did Confucius Changed History
Confucius not only changed history by creating his philosophical doctrine, Confucianism, but he
influenced the education system in ancient China. As one of China s greatest philosophers, Confucius
was active, good natured person with a good sense of humor. During his time, many people were born
in to social stature and tended to stay in that level of social strata throughout their lifetime. Confucius
was born into neither peasant or high born status, a common man with high goals would be the best

By the time Confucius was born his family was regulated to poverty. The Records of the Grand

predominately by his mother, Yan Zhengzai. His mother became his mentor and teacher until his teens
where he was recognized for his tireless dedication to learning and observation. By the age of 15 he
was totally heart set on learning. He was recognized as an intelligent, insightful young scholar through
his relentless questioning of social policy of the time. Confucius s notoriety gained him notice with

7 Great Virtues
Ben Franklin
The first virtue Ben Franklin wanted was An Aversion to Tyranny . The main idea of this to Ben is that
he doesn t like tyranny, which is power or control of one person. He didn t like to be told what to do to
and he also liked some control and therefore, have a limited government. Ben didn t want any
dictatorship either, which meant no kings or queens. Franklin realized that he didn t like the idea of
tyranny when he was 12 years old. He became an apprentice at the print shop of his older brother,
James, who tended to be a tougher boss. I think that Aversion to Tyranny definitely still exists in
America today. We still do not have any dictatorship in today s ... Show more content on

The fifth virtue Ben Franklin put on the list of America s virtues was Idealism in Foreign Policy .
Franklin once wrote, The influence of every power is measured by the opinion one has of its intrinsic
force. When he went to Paris as an envoy during the Revolution, Franklin proved himself a master of
the diplomatic doctrine of realism by playing an adroit balance of power game between France, Spain,
the Netherlands, and later on, Britain. The main idea of this virtue, as I see it, is that Franklin basically
tried to portray each country s position as desirable to him. In a way, this virtue still exists in America
today. The only thing I can think of for this virtue in today s world is Iraq. Even though it isn t ideal to
be at war with a country, we do our best to fight against them and eventually hopefully end the war
and win it. The sixth virtue Ben Franklin wanted was Compromise . Franklin used the phrase, Both
sides must part with some of their demands, many times. He used it the most when the Constitutional
Convention was deciding on the issue of whether the new Congress should be proportioned by
population or have equal votes for each state. For Franklin, who personally believed in proportional
representation, compromise was not only a practical approach but also a moral one. He believed that

What do you want . I will torture you without mercy so you will wish you never left your house, said
The Night Killer. I know what you do, you torture then kill people, I have seen it on the T.V. Mycroft

At that moment I was thinking hopefully I could get a wall or a piece a wall to move so I could

I thought they were getting close but they were going on a high speed chase. I was happy then quickly
turned to sadness because I realized I would die in a ceiling if I could even get up there. The next task
that i wanted to accomplish was to get my body in the ceiling then use a piece of ceiling tile to

Therefore, as God s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion,

While others may say that those who are deeply rooted in their religion have the right to express their
beliefs just as members of the LGBTQ community have the right to express their sexuality, it is
unconstitutional and frankly frowned upon in most religions to treat others with anything less than the
respect that they deserve solely because their choices may not align with a certain religion s beliefs.
As Christians, as with any other religion, you have the freedom to express yourself without
persecution but, as we all know, one of the greatest and most important commandments in
Christianity, as stated in Mark 12:31, is Love your neighbor as you love yourself (The Holy Bible).
Though the bill of rights states that any person born in America has the freedom of religion and the
freedom to practice whatever actions that belief may entitle, our constitution also states that we have
the freedom of expression. By passing bills such as HB1523, we are further proving that
discrimination is a prevalent problem in America s society. America is known to be the land of the
free. While some may say that this only means that American citizens are not kept in bondage and are
allowed to make their own decisions, it also means that we were born with the freedom to be who we
are. How can anyone live the American dream if they are constantly being frowned upon and judged
by others?

Collier County History Essay
Collier County History Collier County was created as one of many new counties during the 1920 land
boom and was named after Barron Gift Collier a businessman who had a vision for the growth and
development of the southwestern coast of Florida. It is the state of Florida s 62nd county and in terms
of total land area, it is the third largest in the state. It is even the birthplace of swamp buggy racing.
Some of the first residents arrived centuries ago after migrating farther south after the end of the last
Ice Age. However, the first permanent settlers did not arrive until the 1880 s when communities
started to form along the respective Naples and Immokalee territories (Collier County Museum 2017).
By 1920, numerous railroads and the infamous Tamiami Trail popped up in the heart of the swamp
land, allowing for the expansion and development of the region. Quickly engineers and architects

Analysis Of Bosses Seek Critical Thinking
In 1989 1995, my father took a job as a manager of the newspaper Marin Independent Journal
company called Gannett. His job required him to have bouts of experience and to be able to solve
problems quickly. When a carrier didn t show up, he needed to quickly come up with a solution to get
the mail out. Another problem he faced was how some people s mail were stolen. His own experience
with these issues and critical thinking is what helped him become manager for almost four years. In
her article, Bosses Seek Critical Thinking , but what is that , Melissa Korn claims that qualities like
critical thinking and problem solving are major assets that young workers may lack. As she explains,
critical thinking is something that is hard to describe and can have many different ways of wording it.
That, in turn makes it difficult for employers to set this bar. Korn continues to give multiple types of
definitions of critical thinking to show exactly how the definitions can differ. She then adds that an
incorporation has their candidates work through company assessments to see how they reach their
conclusions. This lets them see if their workers are qualified. Korn then proceeds to bring Jerry
Houser s opinion on how schools are encouraging students to focus too much on their social lives.
Upon reading Korn s article, i ve found that although many parts are agreeable, such as when she talks
about how difficult it is to actually describe and prescribe critical thinking, other parts like

Each actors role they played in the movie was hit at its fullest potential. The main character, Brad Pitt,

most, being the main character. His acting made the audience portray him as a very independent

Montana, 1948. In this novel, Watson stands on a twelve year old boy-David Hayden s view to talk
about family tragedy which results from his uncle Frank molesting many innocent Indian girls.
Therefore, Hayden s family is tormented by the moral dilemma; especially Wesley the brother of

The Fall of the Ideal American in American Pastoral Essay
It is not so much that Philip Roth disagrees with the concept of the American dream; he simply does
not wish to buy into the myth of it all. In American Pastoral Roth laments the loss of innocence, as
exemplified by both Seymour Levov, the protagonist, and Nathan Zuckerman, the narrator. Both grew
up in an idyllic Jewish Newark neighborhood, both being the sons of Jewish parents. The separation
of their commonality came at a young age, when Zuckerman began to idolize the golden boy of the
neighborhood Seymour Swede Levov, born blond haired and blue eyed, and representing everything
that a young, Jewish boy would want in a local hero. It is through the narrator s eyes that we see both
the rise and fall of a Jewish family in America, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seymour eventually moved his family out of the city and into Old Rimrock, where all of America lay
at their door (310). It was the realization of the American Pastoral concept, one which gave Seymour
the feeling of accomplishment and success, the typical archetype of the American dream.
Unfortunately, the peace that was on the surface would boil over in due time. Merry Levov, Seymour s
daughter, would be the cause. She was described as an all A student, setting very high standards for
herself (171) and continuing on in the striving tradition of her family. It is hard to pinpoint the exact
moment of her loss of innocence, but eventually Merry would be accused of becoming a leftist radical,
of bombing Old Rimrock s general store, and of murdering Dr. Fred Conlon. The Swede s dream was
now interrupted by both the politics of the age, but also the violent acts of his daughter. He lamented,
wondering why Merry had become the angriest kid in America (279) and most likely wondering how
his actions had potentially led to it. The Grandfather may have alluded to the changing zeitgeist of
American society, albeit with the change in his business. He points out that the assassination of John F.
Kennedy and the arrival of the miniskirt ... was the death knell for the ladies dress glove (349). More
importantly, the disillusionment of that generation, living through the Vietnam War, would bring about

Stock Market Predictability Essay
I will now examine the effectiveness of the Book to Market ratio in predicting stock market returns.
The Book to Market ratio is used to compare the book value and the market value of the firm. The
book value is calculated by the firm s accounting worth. The market value is determined by the market
capitalization in the stock market. It is then found using the formula, Book Value of the firm / Market
Value of the firm. Its purpose is to identify any securities that may be undervalued or overvalued.
From the research of Fama and French (1992), we can see the cross sectional variation in stock returns
can be shown by the book to market ratio of individual stocks. In Pontiff (1998), there were two
measures of the book to market ratio that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the paper s findings, the book to market ratio s predictive power is more prominent
before 1960 as there is no significant relation after 1960. The paper also concludes that after 1960, the
S P book to market ratio is a better predictor of market returns than is the DJIA book to market ratio
and the S P book value is better than the DJIA book value in predicting market cash flow . Therefore,
the book to market ratio is a good predictor for future market returns as long as we have a measure of
book value that has high correlation with future cash flows.
Some financial experts argue that certain macroeconomic variables can be used for predicting stock
returns. One such macroeconomic variable is the Consumption to Wealth ratio. I will now examine
how effective this variable is in predicting future stock market returns. The expected excess returns
vary with the growths and dips in the business cycle, therefore, they should be predictable at different
stages of the cycle. To examine the relationship, we note that aggregate consumption, asset holdings
and labour income all share the same long term trend, but in the short term they may deviate
substantially from one another. According to Lettau Ludvigson 2001, we study the role of these
transitory deviations from the common trend in

Satire In The Importance Of Being Ernest
Mytia Terry

ENGL 2323 008
To: Jon Stewart
From: Mytia Terry
Subject: The Importance of Being Earnest exhibits a high seriousness of intent that Wilde wished for.
In the play The Importance of Being Earnest , Oscar Wilde focused on the Victorian Age by mocking
the Victorian principles and ideals. Wilde utilized satire and mockery through the character to make
fun of their culture, principles, behaviors, and morals of the Victorians. Wilde also used the characters
in the play to demonstrate the political, social, and religious views in the late 1900 s. One of the first
things Wilde chooses to mock in The Importance of Being Earnest is the institution of marriage which
is a social satire. In the play, marriage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chauble. Chauble represents the religious satire Wilde wanted to present to the audience. Dr. Chauble
gives the exact same sermon at many events no matter the circumstances. In the play he states My
sermon on the meaning of the manna in the wilderness can be adapted to almost any occasion, joyful,
or, as in this present case, distressing. I have preached it at harvest celebrations, christenings,
confirmations, on days of humiliation, and festal days (Act 2). Wilde presents in this play that the
priesthood lacks originality and is very boring. He mocks the fact that Chauble uses the same sermon
for multiple occasions and doesn t even take the time to change it.
The last satire used in the play is political satire used to mock the victorian morality. Wilde
demonstrates instability of the moral consciousness when in the play Chasuble surrenders to his
emotions for Mrs.Prism. In the play, Chasuble states Were I fortunate enough to be Prism s pupil, I
would hang upon her lips (Act 2). Wilde uses this to mock the moral faith of the Victorian society. The
Victorian people were very absent minded because of the deeply hidden anxiety and they tried to stay
confines in their own privacy.
In conclusion, The Importance of Being Earnest, Wilde demonstrates uses satire through the social,
political, and religious ways of the Victorians and used them to make a mockery of their ideals,
beliefs, values, and

Essay on Metropolis Film Analysis
Metropolis: Breaking down the utopia
In January of1927 Metropolis was released to the German public. The film, which was directed by
Fritz Lang, was one of the first science fiction movies in the history of film. The film focuses on the
differences between the working class who power the city and the wealthy whom indulge in it. The
film was host to many German stars at the time such as Alfred Abel and Brigette Helm. As this
conflict is going there is a separate yet relative story unfolding, a mad scientist has created an android

interesting shot however, was a shot looking outside Joh Frederson s window, showing the majesty of
the city. It was a collaboration of scale models and paintings, which made up an entire futuristic city. It
was breathtaking, especially considering the time period. The story itself was beautifully written by
Lang and his wife. It was the first science fiction film ever made, no one had made a futuristic story
about robots before, but that s just what Metropolis was on the surface. Inside it was a story of love, a
story of indifference, a story of struggle, it was a human story, and that s what made it so successful. It
was written simply, it was easy to understand yet it told a complex multilayered story. The lighting
only brought more emotion and mood to the film. For all the close ups the faces were light very
brightly, the natural shadows in the face in contrast with the bright light stressed the state of the
characters. The lighting in Rotwang s lab however was very dark, and there were a lot of shadows,
which exemplified the nature of his character. The main element that made this film was the acting. It
was necessary that all acting be overdramatic, it was the only way for the audience to truly grasp the
emotions of the characters on screen. The best example is the scene where Freder wanders into the hall
of machines and witness the

The Protest Psychosis Summary
Psychiatry and psychology have struggled in the past to contextualize the nature of mental illness.
Through this struggle, mental illnesses and their symptoms have been used as a means of controlling
deviance and pathologizing emotions felt by certain groups of people. Social, political, and historical
factors create the boundaries of sanity and insanity in which hegemonic, institutional power control
minority groups, however, the manner in which these boundaries manifest have shifted over time.
Jonathan Metzl in his book The Protest Psychosis: How Schizophrenia Became a Black Disease
explores the manner in which mental illness is used by institutions to control deviance through his
examination of how the anti psychiatry movement, subsequence ... Show more content on

1960s and 1970s. Racist bias structured in social and political institutions pathologized the unrest and
anger felt by African American communities and thus incarcerated disproportionally high numbers of
Black men under the guise of mental illness. Ultimately, this pathologizing of emotions felt by African
American communities persists today. The manner in which Black men and women express anger is
pathologized by society and it warps how the public perceives unrest in the Black community,

reading the provided pages from this book, I believe that Hitler truly saw a life/death apocalyptic
struggle between the citizens of Germany and the Jews and uses this as a scapegoat for the problems

assertion that intermarriage results in a weaker offspring. Meaning, that the weaker parents genes

Cango Week 1 and 2 Analysis Essay examples Week 1 Clip 1 Scenario: Julian, the President of the Hudson Valley Business Association, places a phone call to Liz to inform her she has been nominate the Regions Business Leader of the Year and that she will be expected to deliver a speech at the next Association meeting about the How and why of CanGo s success . During the conversation Julian goes on to describe Cango as the Fastest Growing Company in the Hudson Valley and as a Success Story. Liz is obviously flattered and elated by this news and it becomes apparent how much this company and its success means to her and the fact that somebody has recognized all the effort that has been put into building this company. Following this interchange we see Liz working on her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her employee then makes the statement, You re a hit, you can move on from here. To which Liz responds Hindsight is always 20/20. Analysis: Liz definitely needed to plan ahead for her presentation to the Hudson Valley Business Association. Her speech made her lack of knowledge obvious to all the business leaders present at the meeting and may have exposed the weaknesses to her competition. On the other hand, after returning to her office Liz did handle the criticism very well, she was open, honest and direct with her coworker in discussing the issues with her speech. It was a great testament to management that this employee felt at liberty to be direct with Liz, there are few companies which can claim the same open door success. This employee did a great job of outlining her concerns but ended up dismissing her entire argument with the statement You re a hit, you can move on from here. This is a little discouraging because it indicates that Liz s downfall with planning and strategy is being approved and affirmed by her employee base, this is dangerous for a company. Week 1 Clip 3 Scenario: CanGo management is called into a meeting where Liz briefly introduces the idea of entering CanGo in the online gaming market. Andrew then takes over the meeting concerning this endeavor, he gives very few details but he is passionate, excited about this prospect and he does a great job of preventing the ... If you don t go to school you can t play in the game Fine I will be down in a couple minutes. My least favorite part of the day school, but today will be a bit better because we have the Iowa Soccer State Championship which is the biggest soccer game you can play in Iowa. Out of all the teams our team the Raiders and our rivals the Pelicans made it to the championship. The Pelicans and us go to the same school. The Pelicans came to be a couple years ago because some of the kids and their parents didn t like our coaches. Billy dribbled so fast the our defenders could not keep up with him. He took the shot and it was the first goal of the game. It looked like it was going to be a long day for our team as Billy quickly scored another goal now it is 2 0. We kicked it off with a simple pass to Steve who took that opportunity to use his skills to dribble past the defenders to score the wonderful goal to put us back in the game. Now Billy has the ball going full speed and takes the shot but was barely saved but our goalkeeper. The goalkeeper tossed the ball to a defender who made a perfect pass to Steve. Steve had a wide open shot for the goal if he dribbled in just a bit more. Then all of a sudden, as Steve takes the shot Billy comes in and runs into Steve, but the ball was already in the air and went right past the goalkeeper to score. Steve laid on the ground in brutal pain. Rolling on the ground holding his knee. The coaches and medics ran out on to the field and the referee gave Billy a yellow card which was a warning. The crowd yelled frustrated at the call. Meanwhile The medics got Steve off the field. The coach came over to me and told me that it was my time to shine. I ran out on to the field with only ten or eight minutes left I wasn t sure. On the kick off Billy got the ball and came at me as fast as he could I moved out of the way and kicked the ball out of his control to one of our defenders. The defender pass ... • 4. Mere Christianity Analysis Grace Hardin Professor Laughter Business Ethics 24 September 2017 Mere Christianity In C.S Lewis novel, Mere Christianity, he dives into the differences that can be within a moral code, while also proving that they are all the same that the base. Lewis also tries to answer a question that does not have a simple and clear cut answer: why do we feel bad when we misbehave, if everyone misbehaves? Early in book one, the focus is on what we feel and what those emotions mean. He uses an example of hearing someone call for help. There would be three feelings. First, a desire to help. Second, a desire to keep out of danger. And third, a gut feeling that the first desire is right and the second desire is wrong. Therefore, morality may be related to instinct, but it is not a one to one result of it. Also, there is no instinct that is moral all the time without fail, further proving that instinct does not equal morality. One example that resonated the most while going through this book was Lewis point bout the Salem witch trials and how one can use this to argue the consistency, or lack thereof, of morality. One could say that these trials are proof how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He explains that Christianity is not meant to be simple or generic. Some critics of the religion complain that it is too complicated, but there is then the follow up point that life is not simple, so why should religion be? Christianity forces people to put trust in the unpredictable, and sometimes makes them act outside of their instinct. For most of the second book, Lewis goes very deep into the fundamentals of Christianity and what he believes. He has many viewpoints that are not widely accepted in the general world of faith, but it most definitely makes the brain work a little harder. He explains his reasoning behind some of these rules and views in book three of the novel, and he also works through some of the stereotypes of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Zika Virus Papers The Zika Virus When people think of the word epidemic , they generally imagine a widespread disease that threatens humanity as a whole. While most of the hysteria associated with pandemics stem purely from fiction, it can be understandable why people always fear the worst. That is why when an outbreak of the Zika Virus was reported in the United States, an overall feeling of malaise set in. As of September 21, 2016, a total of 3,358 cases of the Zika Virus have been reported ( Center for Disease Control and Prevention ). Though the numbers are alarming, there is no need for a national quarantine or emergency evacuation. In reality, the Zika Virus is not as intimidating as society puts it out to be. The panic and confusion associated with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As of now, there is no official vaccine for Zika. Instead, a patient that has the contagion must undergo certain treatments. Fortunately, the remedies for the virus are simple and cheap. If infection occurs, it is vital to get an abundance of rest and liquids; medication is also advised to assist in alleviating pain. The treatments for Zika are straightforward because the disease itself is rather mild. In fact, in most reported cases of the virus in the United States, the illness only lasted approximately two to seven days prior to the first set of symptoms ( World Health Organization ). It is evident that the fear associated with the Zika Virus is slightly exaggerated. Currently, there is only one recorded fatality in the United States that is directly related to Zika ( The Washington Post ). This is mainly because first world countries medical programs are advanced enough to effectively treat the virus. The standard of living in these countries are also higher compared to third world countries. That is why Zika has claimed a significant amount of lives worldwide; the poor conditions in these countries make it difficult for infected individuals to get proper ... In the last several years, as we have seen some of the major financial conglomerates collapse, when Wall Street carries some negative connotation, investors attention turns to the companies who work primarily with Main Street, specifically those folks who create capital and own assets. A lot of these businessess would not strike you as super wealthy, yet it is the small businesses that proved to be the most resilient during the hard economic times. The knowledge acquired allowed me to have a lot better understanding of many aspects of this business and bring more value to the clients. OK, Let s get back to the original question. Say, a potential client came to you not with 20k, but several million dollars. But these kinds of clients already have their own tax and legal advisors whose opinion means a lot to the clients. And in case their opinion differs from your advice... I always applaud when my existing or potential clients sit down for a meeting with their tax advisors and attorneys, the people that advise them on the very important issues in their lives. Secondly, psychologists for and against the model will be looked at. Following this, the stability of traits will be looked at, both longitudinal and cross situational. Finally, the application of the model within and outside psychology will be evaluated to show support that the FFM provides a solid foundation for an adequate personality psychology. The Five Factor Model provides a compelling framework for building personality measures that seek to represent the domain of individual terms broadly and systematically (Briggs, 1989 as cited in McAdams. There is a lot of support for the FFM and its solid foundation for an adequate personality psychology including consistency in results from different researchers using different methods, the stability of the five factors and its application both within and outside of psychology. Two psychologists that support the validity of the FFM are Eysenck and Cattell. Eysenck s PEN model includes only three factors (extraversion, neuroticism and psychoticism) but with a similar hierarchal structure as the FFM. That is that individuals can rate from extremes on each factor. He used the statistical measurement of factor analysis that identifies patterns and correlations of words, once and then again resulting in what are known as the three superfactors. Eysenck also believed that the basic factors of personality have a biological basis. For example, one hypothesis was that introverts are characterised by higher levels of cortical arousal than extraverts (Eysenck, 1967 as cited in Eysenck. HJ, 1981). EEG measures by Savage (cited in Eysenck. HJ, 1981), which are a reliable and scientific method of research, confirmed this hypothesis. This supports psychologists Costa and McCrae s Five Factor Theory that the five factors have dispositional tendencies and that every individual s personality matures intrinsically around these five factors. The Burgermeister s Daughter, written by Steven Ozment, illustrates the scandalous life of a young woman in sixteenth century Germany. Anna Buschler, the burgermeister s daughter, lived a troublesome life in the German city of Schwabisch Hall, where she spent the majority of her life, while still moving from town to town. While the book surrounds the life of Anna Buschler, it also gives insight to many other historical topics going on in the time of her life, which feed into the reasoning of how Anna was treated. And her father and brother were the ones who discovered, confiscated, and preserved the extremely rare cache of her love letters (3). This was ultimately the fall of Anna s character, as her father then attacked her, banished her from his home, and took away her inheritance, which would start the legal battle with her father and other family members for many years to come (2). Anna would take this court case to her grave as it would never be settled, and she would go through many misfortunes while trying to gain the legal right to her inheritance. From birth till around the time her mother died, Anna Buschler lived a normal life as the daughter of a wealthy bourgeoisie class member. By 2006, after eight straight years of showing a loss, the debt from their spending spree on acquisitions was becoming too much to handle, and Six Flags was not bringing in the revenue to meet loan payments and cover expenses. • 15. Prophets Are A Catalyst For Change 1) Prophets played such an important role in the time of the Old testament. It is because of these prophets, that we have so much of our prophetic literature through the Old Testament today. They played an integral role throughout the life and history of Israel. We can see through numerous situations throughout the Old Testament that the prophets were a catalyst for change occurring in the land/people of Israel. According to David L. Peterson in his book, The Prophetic Literature , a reason as to why there were prophets that arose in the time and land of Israel, is because its said that the prophets were fundamentally important in understanding the history and value of Israel, and that the activeness of the prophets showed God s concern for His people . We see that the word prophet , in the Greek language actually means to foresee . This in time brought about issues in regards to whether or not the prophets weren t just prophets, but could be providing some sort of witchcraft. But in actual fact, the prophets within the Old testament tended to not only speak about the future, but noted circumstances that occurred in the past and that reeled on into their present time. As we move forward in time from the times of the prophets, we can see the necessity of having the prophets in the land, life and people of Israel. When he went to Paris as an envoy during the Revolution, Franklin proved himself a master of the diplomatic doctrine of realism by playing an adroit balance of power game between France, Spain, the Netherlands, and later on, Britain. The main idea of this virtue, as I see it, is that Franklin basically tried to portray each country s position as desirable to him. In a way, this virtue still exists in America today. The only thing I can think of for this virtue in today s world is Iraq. Even though it isn t ideal to be at war with a country, we do our best to fight against them and eventually hopefully end the war and win it. The sixth virtue Ben Franklin wanted was Compromise . Franklin used the phrase, Both sides must part with some of their demands, many times. He used it the most when the Constitutional Convention was deciding on the issue of whether the new Congress should be proportioned by population or have equal votes for each state. For Franklin, who personally believed in proportional representation, compromise was not only a practical approach but also a moral one. He believed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Fall of the Ideal American in American Pastoral Essay It is not so much that Philip Roth disagrees with the concept of the American dream; he simply does not wish to buy into the myth of it all. In American Pastoral Roth laments the loss of innocence, as exemplified by both Seymour Levov, the protagonist, and Nathan Zuckerman, the narrator. Both grew up in an idyllic Jewish Newark neighborhood, both being the sons of Jewish parents. The separation of their commonality came at a young age, when Zuckerman began to idolize the golden boy of the neighborhood Seymour Swede Levov, born blond haired and blue eyed, and representing everything that a young, Jewish boy would want in a local hero. It is through the narrator s eyes that we see both the rise and fall of a Jewish family in America, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seymour eventually moved his family out of the city and into Old Rimrock, where all of America lay at their door (310). It was the realization of the American Pastoral concept, one which gave Seymour the feeling of accomplishment and success, the typical archetype of the American dream. Unfortunately, the peace that was on the surface would boil over in due time. Merry Levov, Seymour s daughter, would be the cause. She was described as an all A student, setting very high standards for herself (171) and continuing on in the striving tradition of her family. It is hard to pinpoint the exact moment of her loss of innocence, but eventually Merry would be accused of becoming a leftist radical, of bombing Old Rimrock s general store, and of murdering Dr. Fred Conlon. The Swede s dream was now interrupted by both the politics of the age, but also the violent acts of his daughter. He lamented, wondering why Merry had become the angriest kid in America (279) and most likely wondering how his actions had potentially led to it. The Grandfather may have alluded to the changing zeitgeist of American society, albeit with the change in his business. He points out that the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the arrival of the miniskirt ... was the death knell for the ladies dress glove (349). More importantly, the disillusionment of that generation, living through the Vietnam War, would bring about the extreme ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Stock Market Predictability Essay I will now examine the effectiveness of the Book to Market ratio in predicting stock market returns. The Book to Market ratio is used to compare the book value and the market value of the firm. The book value is calculated by the firm s accounting worth. The market value is determined by the market capitalization in the stock market. It is then found using the formula, Book Value of the firm / Market Value of the firm. Its purpose is to identify any securities that may be undervalued or overvalued. From the research of Fama and French (1992), we can see the cross sectional variation in stock returns can be shown by the book to market ratio of individual stocks. In Pontiff (1998), there were two measures of the book to market ratio that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in the paper s findings, the book to market ratio s predictive power is more prominent before 1960 as there is no significant relation after 1960. The paper also concludes that after 1960, the S P book to market ratio is a better predictor of market returns than is the DJIA book to market ratio and the S P book value is better than the DJIA book value in predicting market cash flow . Therefore, the book to market ratio is a good predictor for future market returns as long as we have a measure of book value that has high correlation with future cash flows. Some financial experts argue that certain macroeconomic variables can be used for predicting stock returns. One such macroeconomic variable is the Consumption to Wealth ratio. I will now examine how effective this variable is in predicting future stock market returns. The expected excess returns vary with the growths and dips in the business cycle, therefore, they should be predictable at different stages of the cycle. To examine the relationship, we note that aggregate consumption, asset holdings and labour income all share the same long term trend, but in the short term they may deviate substantially from one another. According to Lettau Ludvigson 2001, we study the role of these transitory deviations from the common trend in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Satire In The Importance Of Being Ernest Mytia Terry May 10, 2017 ENGL 2323 008 To: Jon Stewart From: Mytia Terry Subject: The Importance of Being Earnest exhibits a high seriousness of intent that Wilde wished for. In the play The Importance of Being Earnest , Oscar Wilde focused on the Victorian Age by mocking the Victorian principles and ideals. Wilde utilized satire and mockery through the character to make fun of their culture, principles, behaviors, and morals of the Victorians. Wilde also used the characters in the play to demonstrate the political, social, and religious views in the late 1900 s. One of the first things Wilde chooses to mock in The Importance of Being Earnest is the institution of marriage which is a social satire. In the play, marriage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chauble. Chauble represents the religious satire Wilde wanted to present to the audience. Dr. Chauble gives the exact same sermon at many events no matter the circumstances. In the play he states My sermon on the meaning of the manna in the wilderness can be adapted to almost any occasion, joyful, or, as in this present case, distressing. I have preached it at harvest celebrations, christenings, confirmations, on days of humiliation, and festal days (Act 2). Wilde presents in this play that the priesthood lacks originality and is very boring. He mocks the fact that Chauble uses the same sermon for multiple occasions and doesn t even take the time to change it. The last satire used in the play is political satire used to mock the victorian morality. Wilde demonstrates instability of the moral consciousness when in the play Chasuble surrenders to his emotions for Mrs.Prism. In the play, Chasuble states Were I fortunate enough to be Prism s pupil, I would hang upon her lips (Act 2). Wilde uses this to mock the moral faith of the Victorian society. The Victorian people were very absent minded because of the deeply hidden anxiety and they tried to stay confines in their own privacy. In conclusion, The Importance of Being Earnest, Wilde demonstrates uses satire through the social, political, and religious ways of the Victorians and used them to make a mockery of their ideals, beliefs, values, and ... • 32. Essay on Metropolis Film Analysis Metropolis: Breaking down the utopia In January of1927 Metropolis was released to the German public. The film, which was directed by Fritz Lang, was one of the first science fiction movies in the history of film. The film focuses on the differences between the working class who power the city and the wealthy whom indulge in it. The film was host to many German stars at the time such as Alfred Abel and Brigette Helm. As this conflict is going there is a separate yet relative story unfolding, a mad scientist has created an android out of love and desperation. Soon that same desperation drives him to use this robotic woman agansist his fellow man, causing open revolt and bloodshed. As Joh Frederson, founder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They displayed the scale of things, whether the machine hall or Frederson s office. I think the most interesting shot however, was a shot looking outside Joh Frederson s window, showing the majesty of the city. It was a collaboration of scale models and paintings, which made up an entire futuristic city. It was breathtaking, especially considering the time period. The story itself was beautifully written by Lang and his wife. It was the first science fiction film ever made, no one had made a futuristic story about robots before, but that s just what Metropolis was on the surface. Inside it was a story of love, a story of indifference, a story of struggle, it was a human story, and that s what made it so successful. It was written simply, it was easy to understand yet it told a complex multilayered story. The lighting only brought more emotion and mood to the film. For all the close ups the faces were light very brightly, the natural shadows in the face in contrast with the bright light stressed the state of the characters. The lighting in Rotwang s lab however was very dark, and there were a lot of shadows, which exemplified the nature of his character. The main element that made this film was the acting. It was necessary that all acting be overdramatic, it was the only way for the audience to truly grasp the emotions of the characters on screen. The best example is the scene where Freder wanders into the hall of machines and witness the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Protest Psychosis Summary Psychiatry and psychology have struggled in the past to contextualize the nature of mental illness. Through this struggle, mental illnesses and their symptoms have been used as a means of controlling deviance and pathologizing emotions felt by certain groups of people. Social, political, and historical factors create the boundaries of sanity and insanity in which hegemonic, institutional power control minority groups, however, the manner in which these boundaries manifest have shifted over time. Jonathan Metzl in his book The Protest Psychosis: How Schizophrenia Became a Black Disease explores the manner in which mental illness is used by institutions to control deviance through his examination of how the anti psychiatry movement, subsequence ... Racist bias structured in social and political institutions pathologized the unrest and anger felt by African American communities and thus incarcerated disproportionally high numbers of Black men under the guise of mental illness. Ultimately, this pathologizing of emotions felt by African American communities persists today. The manner in which Black men and women express anger is pathologized by society and it warps how the public perceives unrest in the Black community, especially in interactions between protestors and ... Hitler had an absolute obsession with the Jews and was convinced that the Jews were planning to take over Germany and were on the verge to victory. After reading the provided pages from this book, I believe that Hitler truly saw a life/death apocalyptic struggle between the citizens of Germany and the Jews and uses this as a scapegoat for the problems of Germany as a political instrument. An example of this life/death apocalyptic struggle is seen in his assertion that intermarriage results in a weaker offspring. Meaning, that the weaker parents genes dominate the child. In fact, Hitler stated that the result ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
