The Scarlet Ibis
The Scarlet Ibis JAMES HURST Adapted from: Elements of Literature: Third Course. Austin: Holt,
Rinehart and Winston. 2003. It was in the clove of seasons, summer was dead but autumn had not yet
been born, that the ibis lit in the bleeding tree.1 The flower garden was strained with rotting brown
magnolia petals and ironweeds grew rank2 amid the purple phlox. The five o clocks by the chimney
still marked time, but the oriole nest in the elm was untenanted and rocked back and forth like an
empty cradle. The last graveyard flowers were blooming, and their smell drifted across the cotton field
and through every room of our house, speaking softy the names of our dead. It s strange that all this is
still so clear to me, now that summer has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crawling backward made him look like a doodlebug,7 so I began to call him Doodle, and in time even
Mama and Daddy thought it was a better name than William Armstrong. Only Aunt Nicey disagreed.
She said caul babies should be treated with special respect since they might turn out to be saints.
Renaming my brother was perhaps the kindest thing I ever did for him, because nobody expects much
from someone called Doodle. Although Doodle learned to crawl, he showed no signs of walking, but
he wasn t idle. He talked so much that we all quit listening to what he said. It was about this time that
Daddy built him a go cart and I had to pull him around. At first I just paraded him up and down the
piazza,8 but then he started crying to be taken out into the yard, and it ended up by my having to lug
him wherever I went. If I so much as picked up my cap, he d start crying to go with me and Mama
would call from where she was, Take Doodle with you. He was a burden in many ways. The doctor
had said that he mustn t get too excited, too hot, too cold, or too tired and that he must always be
treated gently. A long list of don ts went with him, all of which I ignored once we got out of the house.
To discourage his coming with me, I d run with him across the ends of the cotton rows and careen him
around corners on two wheels. Sometimes I accidentally turned him over, but he never told Mama.
His skin was very sensitive, and he had to wear a big straw hat whenever he went out.

Wilfred Owen And Stevie Smith On Death

Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith on Death
Death, especially that of loved ones: it can be a sensitive topic for anyone. The main connotation for
the dead is that although not all circumstances can be revealed, the reasons behind their deaths can
eventually be assumed by the living. And while that may be true in the physical sense as the dead
cannot physically talk about their own deaths, two major British poets tend to disagree with that
belief. In their works, both poets Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith believe that the dead have more
knowledge on the cause of their condition than do the living.
One way Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith present their beliefs on this issue is by presenting the public
s thoughts on said person after their death. And while the public may be sympathetic at times, often
they are not in the case of Owen; and in the case of Smith, those who are sympathetic tend to not have
a good sense as to what the circumstances were leading up to this person s death. Overall, the public
tends to be ignorant on this topic.
Citing the public s opinions on death is evident in the case of Wilfred Owen s poetry, in both direct
and indirect form. The more indirect approach is in his poem Disabled, although the main character in
question is actually alive. However, the same scenario applies as this character is a permanently
disabled (and depressed) veteran; not to mention Owen (a soldier himself) wrote this in the final year

A Look at the Westward Expansion in the Post-Civil War Era
History is like a die. It can have a small or large number of sides, but it can never have just one.
Regarding the United States Westward Expansion in the Post Civil War era, there were many sides to
be taken into account, including (but not limited to) the Apache Indians, the US Government workers
and soldiers, the American Elite, journalists, and scholars. How historians and others perceive this era
is dependent on the primary sources available. By looking at sources such as Apache Chief Geronimo
s Story of His Life, Harvard Educated Ranch Manager Richard Trimble s Letters to his Mother, and
Financial Editor H.D. Lloyd s Story of a Great Monopoly , one can unearth little nuggets of
information that help determine how the process of incorporation affected large and diverse groups of
people.
When the United States began its Westward Expansion in the second half of the 19th century, many
Native American Chiefs lost much more than they gained. The first time that Apache Chief Geronimo
ever saw white men was about 1858, shortly after the massacre of Kaskiyeh . Although he was a
warrior, he was not interested in killing every white soldier or settler that he came across. Instead, his
initial attitude towards the white soldiers and settlers was stated on page 117 of his autobiography as,
The Indians always tried to live peaceably with the white soldiers and settlers. (117) This statement,
along with a few others in the autobiography such as Then we made our camp near

Southern Ocean Sanctuary
In an ever expanding world where resource scarcity is discussed in side conversations and
overpopulation is being combatted by concerned nations, worldwide struggle of equal allocation of
vital resources persist. Biological resources and biodiversity in general are at the forefront of these
concerns. Decreasing biodiversity does not just pose a problem for the plants and animals that are
becoming increasingly endangered; individuals who have constructed their livelihood around the
availability of such resources face dire circumstances as scarcity arises. The greater the variety of
abundant plant and animal species present in the world, the greater the potential opportunity,
opportunities such as medical discoveries and newfound scientific knowledge that increase the
sustainability of life on Earth. However, tragedy of the commons, has led to overuse of biological
resources across the globe, throwing the issue of sustainability into question. While species extinction
is a natural process in the world ecosystem, the rate at which it has increased is not. In the past 65
million years the rate of extinction has gone from one to five species per year to roughly 1,000 to
10,000 times that rate (Diversity, 2013, pg. 1). This is no longer a matter of natural selection; this is a
matter of ineffective resource regulation worldwide. Despite extensive amounts of environmental
legislation actively in place, specie scarcity will continue to grow. The greatest challenge now

Analysis Of Maya Angelou s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
Like many African American writers in American history, migration is a defining part of Maya
Angelou s life and character. In her memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya thoroughly
discusses each of the moves that shape the person she becomes. From St. Louis at seven to a Southern
California junkyard at fifteen, Maya s life is filled with both voluntary and involuntary migrations.
Some of these moves are intensely emotionally taxing, while others allow her to grow and flourish.
Although her expectations vary from move to move, without fail, her reactions and circumstances
elicit a change or response that define her character. Indeed, as Dr. Jerome De Romanet discusses,
Place is not always therefore an essentially geographical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She briefly considers suicide and separation from her beloved brother and only friend as preferable
alternatives to this forced migration. However, she follows Momma s stoic example and
uncomplainingly agrees to the move. She notes of Momma, She looked pretty sad, but... [s]he would
have been more surprised than I had she taken me in her arms and wept at losing me (123). After her
initial panic, her only reaction to moving in with her mother in what she believes to be California is
merely resignation. Her immediate reaction to the suggested migration to California is negative, and
although it cannot be said that her pessimistic emotions lead to or cause the extent of the horrors the
move holds, Maya s expectations of the migration certainly set the tone for her first move. Despite her
initial belief that her mother resides in California, Maya discovers in the car ride to her new home that
she and her brother will live in St. Louis with their mother, and not in California with both parents.
Not once does she wonder about what her new life might look like in either city. She remembers, I
closed myself off to everything but the kissing sounds of the tires on the pavement and the steady
moan of the motor (124). She merely attempts to pretend like the move is not happening. She only
reacts once the full reality of her situation strikes her, saying, I stopped crying since there was no
chance to get back to Stamps and Momma (127). Before

Request for Proposals in Gregory Garrett s World Class...
The most common input documents in the procurement industry as mentioned by Garrett in his book
are, request for proposal (RFP), request for tender (RFT), request for quotation (RFQ), invitation to
bid (ITB), invitation for bids (IFB), and invitation for negotiations (IFN), while, the output documents
are the proposals and the bids. For the purpose of this essay I am going to focus on the RFP, ITB, and
RFQ as input documents on the buyers step three, solicitation. On the output documents I also want to
add quotes, which were not mentioned by the author but in my personal experience they are invaluable
when procuring goods and services. Additionally, I want to talk about the risk management aspect of
the RFP from the buyers and sellers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to your RFQ your prospective vendors provide you quotes (output document for RFQ).
After receiving all the quotes, you choose the vendor with lowest price because the selection is cost
driven. RFQ and quotes are most of the time informal and there is no binding associated with these
documents.
In the other hand, when you do an ITB you go to a formal competitive solicitation. I found on my
research that companies and government agencies have a dollar amount threshold to decide between a
RFQ and ITB. The source selection decision of the commodities or services to be procured are price
driven; therefore, the lowest bidder that meets the minimum criteria gets the contract. ITBs go in
depth details to ensure that there is no deviation from the requirements. A business case I found
online; University of Florida publishes an ITB for a janitorial contract for the new School of Medicine
in Orlando Florida. The statement of work is very specific on what, how and when everything needs to
be done. The response for the ITB are bids from potential vendors. This document is useful when the
cost uncertainty is low.
The RFPs are used when there is a level of complexity associated with a requested service or goods.
Garrett mentions on Chapter 7 that is generally used when nonfinancial considerations, such as
technical skills or approach, are paramount.
RFPs allow from early stages of the procurement that the buyer and the seller are engaged in

Bed Sheet Versus Pillow
Disposable Bed Sheet and Pillow an advantage for Hospital
There is a wide range of disposable bed sheets and pillows that are ultimate for any type of stretcher or
patient bed. This includes disposable bed sheets for ambulance stretchers to throw away linens that are
used in the diversity of clinical settings, patient rooms in hospitals or for extensive patient care
facilities. The large variety helps in assisting the hospital staff providing the most sensible and cost
efficient options for patient care, and reassuring is a big bonus in any healthcare facility.
Design of disposable bed sheet and pillow
The disposable bed sheet is preferable as it is cost efficient and seen as an alternative where they can

emergency room and day patient care rooms in the hospital. It provides basic protection and
absorbency while there are other sets that propose a range of supplementary features.
Serving as measure of infection control
The deluxe type of bed requires bed sheets made up of a combination of poly and tissue for attaining
the high level of strength and ability to absorb the moisture. These sheets and cushion covers are
prone to lesser stains and less probable to absorb spills ensuring that bed sheets do not change at
regular intervals of the patient admitted.
They also curb the spread of infection and assist in infection control in a hospital setting. The doctor
uses the pillow that comes pre folded and slides under the patient when the patient is up. It gives the
advantage of relaxing and patient feels comfortable while using

Education In Underdeveloped Countries Essay

Education in Underprivileged Countries Nelson Mandela once said, Education is the most powerful
weapon that can be used to change the world. He was right; an education can provide great
opportunities for people. American children have the chance to receive a quality education, but that is
not the case in some countries. In underprivileged countries, children may not receive an education. In
the natural photograph taken in 2009 by American Press photographer Altaf Qadr, Rajeesh Kumar
Sharma has started a free school under a bridge in India to educate underprivileged children living in
surrounding neighborhoods. Most children in America will never have to experience a situation like
this because the government has passed laws to guarantee every child receives a quality education, but
what if the government did not regulate education laws? Imagine the children of the United States
having to miss school because of household duties or cultural influences? These are common
scenarios for children in underdeveloped countries. Inadequate government funding, household duties,
and cultural influences affect whether or not a child receives a valuable education in an
underprivileged country. When governments lack the finances to fund a proper school, children will
not receive a quality education. The government officials in most developing countries simply do not
include funding for primary education in their budget because it is

Cyber Bullying Is Not A New Phenomenon
Producing Danger
Bullying in school is not a new phenomenon; it is as old as the education system. In texts as ancient as
the Bible examples are explicit and evident. Throughout the ages bullying has been a tragic and
catastrophic element that seems inevitable as it affects the lives of its victims. The fundamental
purpose of a school is to educate and coach children in their emotional, cognitive, civic, vocational,
and social development. On the contrary, however, schools are generating cutthroat, cruel, and isolated
environments as oppressive social hierarchies are formed to comply with stereotypical gender traits.
From ancient times to present day, bullying has always taken place. It may be delivered physically,
verbally, and now even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Story of Joseph, in the book of Genesis, struck me as a primeval example of bullying dating back
to 5th century BCE. Joseph was the 11th son of Jacob and was born to Jacob s favorite wife, Rachel.
At the age of 17, Joseph was a shepherd alongside 11 of his brothers. His father, Jacob, displayed
much more love to Joseph than any of his other sons, so much so that he gave Joseph a one of a kind
coat of many colors (Genesis 37:23). The other brothers were jealous of Joseph and distained him.
Joseph only further provoked this hatred when he told his brothers about two of his dreams he had of
the family. The brother s tolerance only lasted so long. When the brothers saw him alone in a field,
they plotted to kill him. When Joseph approached, they tore off his special coat and threw him into a
pit. His brother, Judah, came up with the idea to sell Joseph into slavery. The brothers then dipped his
coat into goat blood brought it back to Jacob. Jacob recognized the coat and concluded that a beast had
killed his son, while in reality; he was in a caravan heading towards Egypt.
There is no denying the raised awareness about bullying today than in past years. Although bullying
has always existed, only recently has it been systematically measured. It was only in the 1980 s when
Dan Olweus conducted initial studies on Norwegian and Swedish students. This account of

Let s Go Aero Travel Trailers: A Case for Incorporating the New Model of the Organization into the

INTRODUCTION
Let s Go Aero manufactures travel trailers bought primarily by young families and retirees interested
in a light, low cost trailer that can easily be pulled by a mid sized family car. The market for travel
trailers has expanded nicely over the past few years due to the number of families seeking a relatively
low cost, outdoor vacation experience. But in the view of Let s Go Aero s president, Mark Newman,
the real growth in the future is in the retiree market. Newman believes the vigorous health of the

keeping with the policy set by Tom as Let s Go s production manager, the amount of sheet aluminum

Pros And Cons Of Drug Legalization
Pros and Cons of Drug Legalization With the onslaught of states slowly legalizing the
commercialization and use of marijuana after the passing of sanctioning initiatives led by Colorado
and Washington in 2012, societal attitudes have begun to support this movement in the
decriminalization of marijuana for personal use. Based on the 2014 midterms, momentum for this
change has been shown in different parts of the U.S., with states such as Oregon, Alaska, and
Washington D.C. joining this cause. It is safe to assume that several other states will soon follow suit,
with ballot initiatives set for 2016 in states such as: Massachusetts, California, Missouri, Hawaii,
Maine, Nevada, and Arizona (Becker, 2014). However, the long standing debate still stands, is this
change for the better? In a world with less restrictions on illegal drugs such as marijuana, would the
pros outweigh the cons? Although the answer may not be clear cut, considering the arguments made
by both the supporting side and the opposing side of marijuana legalization for public consumption
will help us create an opinion on what values should be taken priority on when it comes to the
consequences related to advocating this movement. Based on the arguments made from the
perspective of a supporter in marijuana legalization, complete legalization would bring an end to illicit
dealings on the streets, as there would be no reason for consumers to interact with shady sellers when
it s already offered commercially.

Commercial Whaling
Make the case for the resumption of commercial whaling as an international policy. Commercial
whaling has an abundant amount of utilizations. The main utilizations include food use, commercial
use (whale watching), animal feed and fertilizer use, cosmetic use, and pharmaceutical use. While not
popular in most countries, countries like Alaska, Iceland, Norway, and Japan have whale meat on their
menus. There are also other indigenous people and people in Inuit tribes who depend on whale meat as
their main source of food. Within the pharmaceutical field, Russia, Norway, and Japan are counties

In my opinion, every species, including humans, is a part of the food chain. Whether or not humans
are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important when it comes to the relationship between us
and whales. We have the technology and intelligence to kill whales and use them at important
resources, including food, wax (for candles and cosmetics), and pharmaceuticals. We should be taking
every advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat, and cartilage. I believe
that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that does not include kill whales
recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like there is no excuse for kills of dogs, zebras, or
pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one should be killing an animal for fun. That saying, there is a
point when we will have to stop commercial whaling. The whale population has been an interesting
trend to research. Whale population has been very high and very low in the past couple centuries. My
opinion is that we should have a set number of whales that we can take out of the ocean each year. If
that number starts to cause a decline in the population, it should be set lower. If the population
becomes endangered, I believe that whaling should stop immediately. I could imagine having to
describe to the next generation what a whale looks like because there aren t any to show

John Steinbeck s Cannery Row
Cannery Row: Living Heaven on Earth
Cannery Row (1945), a novel written by John Steinbeck, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, is a book
without much of a plot. Instead, it s a novel where setting, atmosphere and most importantly character,
take precedence. Steinbeck creates a colorful array of characters struggling to understand their own
unique places in the world.
The story is set in the early 20th century, immediately following the Depression and World War II. The
characters live in Monterey, California amid the jumble of the sardine fisheries, the Palace Flophouses
, Lee Chong s grocery, Dora s whorehouse, and Doc s Biological Lab. Throughout the book, Steinbeck
has the uncanny ability to combine his characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steinbeck frequently interrupts the flow of what could be considered the main story line, by throwing
short segments into the writing thus introducing a new character (usually not directly connected to the
primary story) or referencing some sort of cruel occurrence of real life. For example, in chapter twelve
Steinbeck writes about the death of Josh Billings, an author who had come to Monterey. After Billings
death, the doctor dumps his remains into a gulch, where a little boy and his dog later find them. The
little boy, not knowing any better, takes the author s remains to use them for fishing. Upon hearing
this, the town quickly collects all his insides and puts them in a leaden box, which was placed in Josh
Billings coffin.
The purpose of inserting this anecdote was to show the camaraderie and respect of the people in
Cannery Row. At one point in the story, Steinbeck writes, Josh Billings was a great man, a great
writer. He had honored Monterey by dying there and he had been degraded (64 65). Steinbeck
demonstrates that by creating an atmosphere of noble intentions and good feelings for one another,
everyone is able to live in a world of peace even when there are bad times.
Steinbeck spends the greater part of the book writing about a party that Mac and the boys plan to
throw for Doc. The boys believe that since Doc has always been such a nice guy that

looking at perception alone, and they found some similar themes. Their research discovered that core
beliefs i.e. abandonment, vulnerability to harm, etc. mediated the relationship between different
paternal behaviors and the factors that can directly cause eating psychopathology. Individuals with
disordered eating tended to have more negative memories of paternal rearing and higher levels of
three core beliefs: abandonment, defectiveness/shame, and vulnerability to harm. This research also
found that the daughter perceiving their father as overprotective was predictive of a drive for thinness.
This data shows that paternal rearing behaviors are related to daughters developing and maintaining
eating disorders. Therefore, fathers are pertinent when considering how body image issues/eating
disorders may develop and be maintained. Both of these research studies showed the importance of

Rhetorical Analysis Of Coca Cola
Does the childish logic of having done it first mean you have the right to it work in the real, business
world? According to Coca Cola USA, the slogans they use during their advertising campaigns are to
be used solely by them. Herbert, a representative from Coca Cola USA, informs the Grove Press that
they had used their slogan in one of their advertisements for a book. Seaver, Executive Vice President
of the Grove Press, does not agree with Coca Cola s terms and claim they were merely quoting a book
critic for the advertisement. He addresses all of Herbert s claims while also adding a sense of sarcasm.
Seaver presents a stronger letter with the use a sarcasm and countering all of Herbert s claims while
Herbert merely establishes authority and uses weak logic as his backup. Herbert immediately builds
up credibility on the matter of the slogan due to his position at Coca Cola USA. He provides examples
from the history of Coca Cola where the slogan had been used. Furthermore, he appeals to fear by
using scare tactics such as subtlety threatening legal action by appreciating their cooperation without
having even a reply from Seaver (Herbert 26). As a result, his letter is similar to a cease and desist
type which is used to threaten legal action. Herbert presents the friendly, cooperative tone to ensure
Grove Press just meets their demands without any efforts of rebutting. He intends to make use of his
corporate power to scare the Grove Press into meeting his demands by

The Importance Of Time In The Military
The military, in any country, has a habit of wanting you to show up on time for work, formation, drill
and any other things that come with being a soldier. Most of the reasons behind this are similar to
those of what a civilian employer might hold. Also the simple fact that it s part of the job. Many
reasons contribute to why you must be on time in the military. Be it the oath you swore, the Uniform
Code of Military Justice, trying to get promoted, accountability or just trying to stay out of trouble in
general. The reasons are many and the people around may never know why. The military oath. People

dealing with the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The Uniform Code of Military Justice, or put

Pathos In Lightning Crashes Ethos
When most people think of the circle of life they imagine the Lion King, right? They don t think of
any of the realities that actually do happen. They don t think about the people dying in one room while
one is being born in another. Lightning Crashes by Live embodies the circle of life perfectly. Live is
an American rock band originating for York, Pennsylvania. The song was released in September of
1994 as a single for their album Throwing Copper. Ed Kowalczyk, one of the members of Live,
dedicated this song to a high school friend who passed away from a drunk driving collision. The
friend had donated several organs. This song specifically speaks to how she gave a new life to others
by donating her organs. Kowalczyk has said that he envisioned the music video to be in a hospital,
where there is plenty of deaths and births taking place. Instead of that vision, the video takes place in a
home, giving off a more peaceful feeling and a happy ending atmosphere. The opening of the music
video portrays the image of a new mother giving birth in one room, while in another room an elderly
woman is dying, symbolizing one life being brought into the world as another is taken. Even though
Lightning Crashes does not use the appeal of logos, it displays a strong usage of pathos and offers a
credible source of ethos to draw in its listeners. The song practices several emotional metaphors
throughout the lyrics, the music video displays emotional imagery, and it can relate to outside

Analysis Of The BookThe Jungle, By Upton Sinclair
Sometimes, your own actions can cause your own pain. One good example of this is The Jungle. The
Jungle, by Upton Sinclair, was written in 1906 and is about an immigrant family, the most important
Jurgis and Ona who come to America, hoping to find freedom, liberty, and most importantly, a job, as
well as Jurgis looking to marry Ona. However, they soon find out that that they are being deceived at
every turn, and their lives are worse than before. It is clear that Jurgis is one of the main protagonists,
and while Jurgis and his family are exploited by the bosses , Jurgis is usually the cause of his own
pain, and is his own antagonist. This is unique among books, because the author doesn t usually want
the reader to feel too much pity for the protagonist, but that is exactly what happens in The Jungle.
The most significant ways this happens to Jurgis is by him not listening to other workers at
Packingtown, when he attacked Ona s boss, and when he joined the criminal world.
First, Jurgis caused his own distress by not listening to other workers. These workers had been at
Packingtown far longer that Jurgis, and they knew the truth. They knew about the debt and loss that
comes after working in Packingtown, and they tried to tell Jurgis his was going to come crashing
down at some point. But still Jurgis did not listen. It was after his first day at work that he began to
realize, with a sinking feeling, that perhaps the other workers were right, saying When he came home
that night he was in a very sombre mood, having begun to see at last how those might be right who
had laughed at him for his faith in America (Sinclair 72). Jurgis was beginning to see that the others
were right, and yet he still didn t listen, and kept going with job. Shortly after, he gets pulled into debt
and can no longer escape. Jurgis was his own enemy, taking the bait of the trap, even when everyone
told him not to.
Second, the most evident way Jurgis was his own antagonist was when he attacked Ona s boss. By this
time, he was married to Ona, and she was very dear to him. So when her boss blackmails Ona into
obeying his every command, no matter how demoralized it may be, Jurgis gets very angry, so he goes
and attacks her boss. The people

Christian Scriptures class, and a new student experience class required by every Freshman or transfer
student attending Baylor. Along with those, I am in General Biology I, General Chemistry I, General
Biology Lab I, General Chemistry Lab I, Calculus, and General English Composition. Although it is a
vigorous course, a strong suit of mine is time management which is extremely helpful. 2. I am
fascinated by the science field. It is constantly changing through new discoveries. I find it very
interesting that everything in this field may not be true and can be proven wrong. There is nothing set
in stone and through these new discoveries we are able to back up theories and hypotheses or prove
them wrong and in turn opening up new areas of study. I also like knowing why things happen and the

Native American Photography Essay
Pictures often have several different angles and meanings behind their reason for being taken. In this
case these photos of Native Americans can be looked at and examined with several benefits and a few
drawbacks as well. The benefit I see would be the timeless history captured in these moments, a shot
in the past of a civilization still fresh and full of life that we as Americans now will never see again.
However, there are many different sides to every story and many angles to every camera, Companies
like the Great Northern Railroad often manipulate the scene (pg.34). This is an example of using the
great Native American people as propaganda and abusing their culture by putting a fake image in the
media and displaying it as something that it wasn t at the time. This is a serious problem with many
photos used even in modern society, we often use these as a historical source without considering the
actual facts behind the image. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nocodazole Synthesis Lab Report
We hypothesized that the cells would uptake LDL and transferrin the most at 37ยฐC for an incubation
period of 30 minutes. According to our results, we hypothesized correctly. This means that at this
temperature and rate, the cells would get the most drug delivery. We also hypothesized that higher
concentrations of nocodazole would have more of an effect on receptor mediated endocytosis. This
was also proven correct by our results. The cells that were treated with the nocodazole inhibitor, didn t
take up as much dye compared to the cells that weren t treated the nocodazole. When designing an anti
cancer drug, the results that were found in this experiment need to be considered. It was found that the
cells were more likely to uptake the drugs at a higher temperature. In particular the uptake of LDL and
transferrin was the most successful at 37ยฐC. This temperature is noted as the body temperature. These
results make sense because tumors grow in the human body, so the anti cancer drugs need to be the
most effective at this body temperature. There have been many experiments that have tested the same

wrong amount of PBS or paraformaldehyde could have been used which would alter the results. Also,
cells could have been lost throughout the experiment. This would sway the results because there

ones were involved with cell uptake could have been done incorrectly. The appearance of these cells
on the microscope can be very hard to determine and count. So the numbers found in the results all

Village Of Forest Park, Illinois
Introduction
When discussing microeconomics, there are several market structures that may have an impact the
economy in the Village of Forest Park, Illinois. These market structures including perfect competition,
monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly have many characteristics and have an impact on
the market as a whole. There are many barriers to entry, competitive pressure and price elasticity that
also impact the economic growth of the village. Other areas that affect the village s economy include
governmental roles and international trade.
Two Characteristics of the Four Market Structures
The major market structures that impact our current economy are perfect competition, monopolistic
competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A monopolistic competition describes a common market structure in which firms have many
competitors or sellers, but each one sells a vaguely distinctive product or service. One of this market
structure s characteristics is that each individual firm makes independent decisions about price and
output, based on its product, its market, and its costs of production (Economics Online, 2015).
Another characteristic is there is freedom to enter or leave the market, since there are no major
barriers to entry or exit. The opposite of this market structure is an oligopoly. Oligopoly means few
sellers. Oligopoly is the market structure in which there are only a few firms or a few firms dominate
the market (Amacher Pate, 2013). In an oligopolistic market, each seller supplies a large portion of all
the products sold in the marketplace. In addition, because the cost of starting a business in an
oligopolistic industry is usually high, the number of firms entering it is low.
Local Market Example
In the Village of Forest Park, the local electric company, ComEd, has a monopoly over the energy
market. While the village residents are able to chose what type of energy they use, whether its coal or
wind, each of the energy providers sell their energy to ComEd who then sets the price for its
consumers. There are no other energy companies or providers in the city, each person must use

Tax Evasion Is An Illegal Evasion Of Taxes By Trusts,...
An organized country and government owes a lot of fundamental obligation to the people it governs.
These obligations can take many forms like basic social amenities such good roads, health, security of
lives and properties, shelters, good water, retirement system...etc.
So the government applies taxes on its citizens to pursue the above stated objectives it owns to the
people.
The citizens of Lebanon living under the guardianship of the government owe also the government
many obligations, such as paying taxes...
Tax according to C.S Ola is defined as: non punitive yet compulsory levy on the income and
properties of individuals and organizations by government and which it does not account for, the
proceeds from the levy on trade the government uses to pursue the accomplishment of some social,
economic and political objective in the interests of its citizens
The tax evasion is the subject matter of this work. Knowing that tax evasion is an illegal evasion of
taxes by trusts, corporations and individuals. Tax evasion usually when the taxpayers misrepresent the
true state of affairs to the tax authorities to minimize their tax liability and may include also dishonest
tax reporting, such as declaring less income, profits, or gains than the amounts actually earned, or they
can do it in another way like overstating deduction.
In Lebanon, the citizens have an uncooperative and unprogressive attitude towards tax payment. But
obviously it is an agreed fact, that payment and collecting

Persuasive Speech On Space Exploration
Despite the United States effort to score points in the space race the USSR remained a head. In August
1962 the Soviet union climbed a higher rung with the Nikolaev popovich expedition.while orbiting the
earth, the twin Vostoks were so precisely targeted that they came with them in Astounding. 3 miles of
each other. This was the skill needed to accurately join the lunar module with the spacecraft after
astronauts had walked in the moon. Again the faithful words of Kennedy rang out through the TV
stations and newspapers of America. The eyes of the world look into space to the moon and to the
planets beyond we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest. The first
landing would be hardly less significant if disaster should overtake the expedition and prevent the safe
return of any or all the crewmen. Others would follow and return alive. The media exposed the space
race to national attention. Kennedy had said it. A man would walk on the moon before this decade was
over, and James E. Webb, Space Agency Director, responded, I happen to think we will make the lunar
landing and return before they do. But, the Americans weren t as far behind as they appeared. Sure
Russia, had the technology to connect two spacecrafts of equal masses while in orbit, but the U.S. first

The Role Of G Protein Coupled Receptorss
On the surfaces of many eukaryotic cells, G protein coupled receptors (GPCR s) are present. These
receptors are seven trans membrane spanning, with their N terminal on the exoplasmic face of the
plasma membrane and their C terminal on the cytosolic [1]. GPCR s play a role in intracellular
signalling pathways that result in crucial physiological processes. Cell signalling is an important
process required for cellular activity, coordination and the normal growth and development of cells.
GPCR s transduce extracellular signals allowing them to respond to the extracellular environment [2].
All GPCR s are coupled to a G protein which is heterotrimeric, meaning it contains three different G
protein subunits: Gฮฑ, Gฮฒ and Gฮณ. When an associated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DAG is lipid soluble and so stays in the membrane whereas IP3 is water soluble, so it diffuses through
the cytosol. This signalling pathway therefore splits into two branches with the second messengers
mediating different functions [4]. On one branch is the signalling cascade downstream of IP3. The IP3
receptors are located on the lumen of the sarcoplasmic reticulum (endoplasmic reticulum out with
smooth muscle cells) and when IP3 is bound they release their intracellular Ca2+ store. This release of
intracellular Ca2+ increases the Ca2+ concentration in the cytosol from around 0.1 ฮผM to 1 ฮผM [5].
This changes the physiology of the cell, therefore Ca2+ is said to be a second messenger itself. The
way in which Ca2+ signals is through the binding of proteins. The Ca2+ binding proteins transduce
this signal of the cytosolic concentration of Ca2+ and these certain proteins are called mediator
proteins. Such a protein is calmodulin, and is only in its active conformation when Ca2+ is bound. The
increase in intracellular Ca2+ by the binding of IP3 to the IP3 receptors promotes the binding of
Ca2+to calmodulin forming the Ca2+/calmodulin complex. Proteins that are members of the
Ca2+/calmodulin dependent protein kinase family (CaM kinases) are activated by Ca2+/calmodulin. It
is the formation of this complex that is fundamental for muscle contraction [4]. Figure 1

The Tell-Tale Heart, A Rose For Emily, And The Lottery
Horror is a strong feeling of fear, disgust, or shock. Many different examples of horror stories exist;

whole story is based on a community with a village wide event where there is a sacrifice each year.
Not even that, but many enjoy the lottery. The town officials have the kids come first to pick up their

act of murder that they do not truly understand. When Mrs. Hutchinson gets chosen for the lottery, the
way they approach it very confident. They go right into the killing, the story states, It isn t fair, she

then they were upon her. (para. 77 and 78) This act shows tradition; it is what the whole village is used
to. The people of the village have no other outlook on society, so they believe that a sacrifice has no
issue. The lottery is a fantastic example of a horror story, will all of the grim violence involved.

Spread trading is a trading strategy which trades on the spread between the two contracts. The

Similarities And Differences Of Philip II And King Philip...
There have been many absolute rulers throughout time that are quite different but also somewhat alike
in the way they ruled. An absolute ruler is someone who rules a country or kingdom by themselves.
There have been many different absolute rulers throughout time, such as Peter, Charles II, and the
most famous, Louis XIV. Another example of an absolute ruler was Philip II who ruled Spain from
1527 to 1598. His religion was Roman Catholicism who felt it was his duty to defend Catholicism.
Kim Jong Un is an absolute ruler of this time who began ruling in 2010 in North Korea. Kim himself
has no religion and discourages religion in North Korea. There are many differences and similarities

Because Spain needed money, Philip raised taxes on the Netherlands. He also tried to ruin
Protestantism. People were angry and came to Catholic churches to protest. Philip sent an army to
punish the mobs of people, which resulted in one thousand, five hundred Protestants murdered. In
addition, Philip was a ruler with great power that did what he had to for his country.
Present day ruler, Kim Jong Un is known for his cruel ways of ruling and his nuclear power. North
Korea has no religion, as it is discouraged. Because there is no religion, most citizens get into fights
about their ideas of religion. Other people are too afraid to talk about their religion and even pass it on
to their children because of what Kim Jong Un might do. Kim is known for executing people to get his
way. Since he came to power, he has ordered at least three hundred and forty people to death. One
hundred and forty of these people were apart of his government. Due to the executions, his people fear
him. On a different topic, North Korea is the 119th largest trading economy in the world, exporting
2.83 billion dollars and importing 3.47 billion dollars. North Korea s largest trading partner is China,
gaining food and energy. Other trading partners include, Pakistan, Asia, Russia, etc. China was also
the one who gave North Korea nuclear weapons. North Korea was short on nuclear weapons and Kim
decided it was time to advance the weaponry. As of 2014, the North Korean Army has 950,000

proposition or associate inspected article, a literary works audit generally goes before an examination
proposal and outcomes segment. Its primary objectives are to arrange the current study inside the
assembly of expositive expression and to give setting to the specific spectator. Writing audits are a
staple for exploration in almost every scholastic field A literary works survey talks about distributed
data in a specific branch of knowledge, and some of the time data in a specific branch of knowledge
inside a certain time period. A literary works survey might be simply a straightforward outline of the
sources, however it generally has an authoritative example and consolidates both synopsis and blend.
An outline is a recap of the imperative data of the source, yet an amalgamation is a re association, or a
reshuffling, of that data. It may give another elucidation of old material or join new with old
elucidations. Then again it may follow the learned movement of the field, including real

  • 2. The Scarlet Ibis The Scarlet Ibis JAMES HURST Adapted from: Elements of Literature: Third Course. Austin: Holt, Rinehart and Winston. 2003. It was in the clove of seasons, summer was dead but autumn had not yet been born, that the ibis lit in the bleeding tree.1 The flower garden was strained with rotting brown magnolia petals and ironweeds grew rank2 amid the purple phlox. The five o clocks by the chimney still marked time, but the oriole nest in the elm was untenanted and rocked back and forth like an empty cradle. The last graveyard flowers were blooming, and their smell drifted across the cotton field and through every room of our house, speaking softy the names of our dead. It s strange that all this is still so clear to me, now that summer has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Crawling backward made him look like a doodlebug,7 so I began to call him Doodle, and in time even Mama and Daddy thought it was a better name than William Armstrong. Only Aunt Nicey disagreed. She said caul babies should be treated with special respect since they might turn out to be saints. Renaming my brother was perhaps the kindest thing I ever did for him, because nobody expects much from someone called Doodle. Although Doodle learned to crawl, he showed no signs of walking, but he wasn t idle. He talked so much that we all quit listening to what he said. It was about this time that Daddy built him a go cart and I had to pull him around. At first I just paraded him up and down the piazza,8 but then he started crying to be taken out into the yard, and it ended up by my having to lug him wherever I went. If I so much as picked up my cap, he d start crying to go with me and Mama would call from where she was, Take Doodle with you. He was a burden in many ways. The doctor had said that he mustn t get too excited, too hot, too cold, or too tired and that he must always be treated gently. A long list of don ts went with him, all of which I ignored once we got out of the house. To discourage his coming with me, I d run with him across the ends of the cotton rows and careen him around corners on two wheels. Sometimes I accidentally turned him over, but he never told Mama. His skin was very sensitive, and he had to wear a big straw hat whenever he went out. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Wilfred Owen And Stevie Smith On Death Chris Shea ENG 477 Professor Heidi Hartwig 04/21/16 Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith on Death Death, especially that of loved ones: it can be a sensitive topic for anyone. The main connotation for the dead is that although not all circumstances can be revealed, the reasons behind their deaths can eventually be assumed by the living. And while that may be true in the physical sense as the dead cannot physically talk about their own deaths, two major British poets tend to disagree with that belief. In their works, both poets Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith believe that the dead have more knowledge on the cause of their condition than do the living. One way Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith present their beliefs on this issue is by presenting the public s thoughts on said person after their death. And while the public may be sympathetic at times, often they are not in the case of Owen; and in the case of Smith, those who are sympathetic tend to not have a good sense as to what the circumstances were leading up to this person s death. Overall, the public tends to be ignorant on this topic. Citing the public s opinions on death is evident in the case of Wilfred Owen s poetry, in both direct and indirect form. The more indirect approach is in his poem Disabled, although the main character in question is actually alive. However, the same scenario applies as this character is a permanently disabled (and depressed) veteran; not to mention Owen (a soldier himself) wrote this in the final year ... • 4. A Look at the Westward Expansion in the Post-Civil War Era History is like a die. It can have a small or large number of sides, but it can never have just one. Regarding the United States Westward Expansion in the Post Civil War era, there were many sides to be taken into account, including (but not limited to) the Apache Indians, the US Government workers and soldiers, the American Elite, journalists, and scholars. How historians and others perceive this era is dependent on the primary sources available. By looking at sources such as Apache Chief Geronimo s Story of His Life, Harvard Educated Ranch Manager Richard Trimble s Letters to his Mother, and Financial Editor H.D. Lloyd s Story of a Great Monopoly , one can unearth little nuggets of information that help determine how the process of incorporation affected large and diverse groups of people. When the United States began its Westward Expansion in the second half of the 19th century, many Native American Chiefs lost much more than they gained. The first time that Apache Chief Geronimo ever saw white men was about 1858, shortly after the massacre of Kaskiyeh . Although he was a warrior, he was not interested in killing every white soldier or settler that he came across. Instead, his initial attitude towards the white soldiers and settlers was stated on page 117 of his autobiography as, The Indians always tried to live peaceably with the white soldiers and settlers. • 5. Southern Ocean Sanctuary In an ever expanding world where resource scarcity is discussed in side conversations and overpopulation is being combatted by concerned nations, worldwide struggle of equal allocation of vital resources persist. Biological resources and biodiversity in general are at the forefront of these concerns. Decreasing biodiversity does not just pose a problem for the plants and animals that are becoming increasingly endangered; individuals who have constructed their livelihood around the availability of such resources face dire circumstances as scarcity arises. The greater the variety of abundant plant and animal species present in the world, the greater the potential opportunity, opportunities such as medical discoveries and newfound scientific knowledge that increase the sustainability of life on Earth. However, tragedy of the commons, has led to overuse of biological resources across the globe, throwing the issue of sustainability into question. While species extinction is a natural process in the world ecosystem, the rate at which it has increased is not. In the past 65 million years the rate of extinction has gone from one to five species per year to roughly 1,000 to 10,000 times that rate (Diversity, 2013, pg. 1). This is no longer a matter of natural selection; this is a matter of ineffective resource regulation worldwide. Despite extensive amounts of environmental legislation actively in place, specie scarcity will continue to grow. The greatest challenge now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of Maya Angelou s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Like many African American writers in American history, migration is a defining part of Maya Angelou s life and character. In her memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya thoroughly discusses each of the moves that shape the person she becomes. From St. Louis at seven to a Southern California junkyard at fifteen, Maya s life is filled with both voluntary and involuntary migrations. Some of these moves are intensely emotionally taxing, while others allow her to grow and flourish. Although her expectations vary from move to move, without fail, her reactions and circumstances elicit a change or response that define her character. Indeed, as Dr. Jerome De Romanet discusses, Place is not always therefore an essentially geographical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She briefly considers suicide and separation from her beloved brother and only friend as preferable alternatives to this forced migration. However, she follows Momma s stoic example and uncomplainingly agrees to the move. She notes of Momma, She looked pretty sad, but... [s]he would have been more surprised than I had she taken me in her arms and wept at losing me (123). After her initial panic, her only reaction to moving in with her mother in what she believes to be California is merely resignation. Her immediate reaction to the suggested migration to California is negative, and although it cannot be said that her pessimistic emotions lead to or cause the extent of the horrors the move holds, Maya s expectations of the migration certainly set the tone for her first move. Despite her initial belief that her mother resides in California, Maya discovers in the car ride to her new home that she and her brother will live in St. Louis with their mother, and not in California with both parents. Not once does she wonder about what her new life might look like in either city. She remembers, I closed myself off to everything but the kissing sounds of the tires on the pavement and the steady moan of the motor (124). She merely attempts to pretend like the move is not happening. She only reacts once the full reality of her situation strikes her, saying, I stopped crying since there was no chance to get back to Stamps and Momma (127). Before ... • 8. Request for Proposals in Gregory Garrett s World Class... The most common input documents in the procurement industry as mentioned by Garrett in his book are, request for proposal (RFP), request for tender (RFT), request for quotation (RFQ), invitation to bid (ITB), invitation for bids (IFB), and invitation for negotiations (IFN), while, the output documents are the proposals and the bids. For the purpose of this essay I am going to focus on the RFP, ITB, and RFQ as input documents on the buyers step three, solicitation. On the output documents I also want to add quotes, which were not mentioned by the author but in my personal experience they are invaluable when procuring goods and services. In response to your RFQ your prospective vendors provide you quotes (output document for RFQ). After receiving all the quotes, you choose the vendor with lowest price because the selection is cost driven. RFQ and quotes are most of the time informal and there is no binding associated with these documents. In the other hand, when you do an ITB you go to a formal competitive solicitation. I found on my research that companies and government agencies have a dollar amount threshold to decide between a RFQ and ITB. The source selection decision of the commodities or services to be procured are price driven; therefore, the lowest bidder that meets the minimum criteria gets the contract. ITBs go in depth details to ensure that there is no deviation from the requirements. A business case I found online; University of Florida publishes an ITB for a janitorial contract for the new School of Medicine in Orlando Florida. The statement of work is very specific on what, how and when everything needs to be done. The response for the ITB are bids from potential vendors. This document is useful when the cost uncertainty is low. The RFPs are used when there is a level of complexity associated with a requested service or goods. Garrett mentions on Chapter 7 that is generally used when nonfinancial considerations, such as technical skills or approach, are paramount. RFPs allow from early stages of the procurement that the buyer and the seller are engaged in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Story of Joseph, in the book of Genesis, struck me as a primeval example of bullying dating back to 5th century BCE. Joseph was the 11th son of Jacob and was born to Jacob s favorite wife, Rachel. At the age of 17, Joseph was a shepherd alongside 11 of his brothers. His father, Jacob, displayed much more love to Joseph than any of his other sons, so much so that he gave Joseph a one of a kind coat of many colors (Genesis 37:23). The other brothers were jealous of Joseph and distained him. Joseph only further provoked this hatred when he told his brothers about two of his dreams he had of the family. The brother s tolerance only lasted so long. When the brothers saw him alone in a field, they plotted to kill him. When Joseph approached, they tore off his special coat and threw him into a pit. His brother, Judah, came up with the idea to sell Joseph into slavery. The brothers then dipped his coat into goat blood brought it back to Jacob. Jacob recognized the coat and concluded that a beast had killed his son, while in reality; he was in a caravan heading towards Egypt. Pros And Cons Of Drug Legalization Pros and Cons of Drug Legalization With the onslaught of states slowly legalizing the commercialization and use of marijuana after the passing of sanctioning initiatives led by Colorado and Washington in 2012, societal attitudes have begun to support this movement in the decriminalization of marijuana for personal use. Based on the 2014 midterms, momentum for this change has been shown in different parts of the U.S., with states such as Oregon, Alaska, and Washington D.C. joining this cause. It is safe to assume that several other states will soon follow suit, with ballot initiatives set for 2016 in states such as: Massachusetts, California, Missouri, Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, and Arizona (Becker, 2014). However, the long standing debate still stands, is this change for the better? In a world with less restrictions on illegal drugs such as marijuana, would the pros outweigh the cons? Although the answer may not be clear cut, considering the arguments made by both the supporting side and the opposing side of marijuana legalization for public consumption will help us create an opinion on what values should be taken priority on when it comes to the consequences related to advocating this movement. Based on the arguments made from the perspective of a supporter in marijuana legalization, complete legalization would bring an end to illicit dealings on the streets, as there would be no reason for consumers to interact with shady sellers when it s already offered commercially. ... Steinbeck frequently interrupts the flow of what could be considered the main story line, by throwing short segments into the writing thus introducing a new character (usually not directly connected to the primary story) or referencing some sort of cruel occurrence of real life. For example, in chapter twelve Steinbeck writes about the death of Josh Billings, an author who had come to Monterey. After Billings death, the doctor dumps his remains into a gulch, where a little boy and his dog later find them. The little boy, not knowing any better, takes the author s remains to use them for fishing. Upon hearing this, the town quickly collects all his insides and puts them in a leaden box, which was placed in Josh Billings coffin. The purpose of inserting this anecdote was to show the camaraderie and respect of the people in Cannery Row. At one point in the story, Steinbeck writes, Josh Billings was a great man, a great writer. He had honored Monterey by dying there and he had been degraded (64 65). Steinbeck demonstrates that by creating an atmosphere of noble intentions and good feelings for one another, everyone is able to live in a world of peace even when there are bad times. Paternal Rearing Styles Furthermore, there are other ways besides a daughter s perception of her father that parenting styles can affect the development of eating disorders in females (Jones, Leung, Harris, 2006). The research of Jones, Leung, and Harris dove deeper into the different paternal rearing behaviors and core beliefs and their influence in the development of disordered eating behaviors in females rather than simply looking at perception alone, and they found some similar themes. Their research discovered that core beliefs i.e. abandonment, vulnerability to harm, etc. mediated the relationship between different paternal behaviors and the factors that can directly cause eating psychopathology. Individuals with disordered eating tended to have more negative memories of paternal rearing and higher levels of three core beliefs: abandonment, defectiveness/shame, and vulnerability to harm. This research also found that the daughter perceiving their father as overprotective was predictive of a drive for thinness. They don t think about the people dying in one room while one is being born in another. Lightning Crashes by Live embodies the circle of life perfectly. Live is an American rock band originating for York, Pennsylvania. The song was released in September of 1994 as a single for their album Throwing Copper. Ed Kowalczyk, one of the members of Live, dedicated this song to a high school friend who passed away from a drunk driving collision. The friend had donated several organs. This song specifically speaks to how she gave a new life to others by donating her organs. Kowalczyk has said that he envisioned the music video to be in a hospital, where there is plenty of deaths and births taking place. Instead of that vision, the video takes place in a home, giving off a more peaceful feeling and a happy ending atmosphere. The opening of the music video portrays the image of a new mother giving birth in one room, while in another room an elderly woman is dying, symbolizing one life being brought into the world as another is taken. The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair, was written in 1906 and is about an immigrant family, the most important Jurgis and Ona who come to America, hoping to find freedom, liberty, and most importantly, a job, as well as Jurgis looking to marry Ona. However, they soon find out that that they are being deceived at every turn, and their lives are worse than before. It is clear that Jurgis is one of the main protagonists, and while Jurgis and his family are exploited by the bosses , Jurgis is usually the cause of his own pain, and is his own antagonist. This is unique among books, because the author doesn t usually want the reader to feel too much pity for the protagonist, but that is exactly what happens in The Jungle. The most significant ways this happens to Jurgis is by him not listening to other workers at Packingtown, when he attacked Ona s boss, and when he joined the criminal world. First, Jurgis caused his own distress by not listening to other workers. These workers had been at Packingtown far longer that Jurgis, and they knew the truth. They knew about the debt and loss that comes after working in Packingtown, and they tried to tell Jurgis his was going to come crashing down at some point. But still Jurgis did not listen. It was after his first day at work that he began to realize, with a sinking feeling, that perhaps the other workers were right, saying When he came home that night he was in a very sombre mood, having begun to see at last how those might be right who had laughed at him for his faith in America (Sinclair 72). Jurgis was beginning to see that the others were right, and yet he still didn t listen, and kept going with job. Shortly after, he gets pulled into debt and can no longer escape. The benefit I see would be the timeless history captured in these moments, a shot in the past of a civilization still fresh and full of life that we as Americans now will never see again. However, there are many different sides to every story and many angles to every camera, Companies like the Great Northern Railroad often manipulate the scene (pg.34). This is an example of using the great Native American people as propaganda and abusing their culture by putting a fake image in the media and displaying it as something that it wasn t at the time. This is a serious problem with many photos used even in modern society, we often use these as a historical source without considering the actual facts behind the image. ... We then see another imagine of a Native woman using a sewing machine(pg.46), it really does not matter if this photo was staged or taken in honestly, you can clearly see the Blackfeet attempting to use the modern technology. • 27. Nocodazole Synthesis Lab Report We hypothesized that the cells would uptake LDL and transferrin the most at 37ยฐC for an incubation period of 30 minutes. According to our results, we hypothesized correctly. This means that at this temperature and rate, the cells would get the most drug delivery. We also hypothesized that higher concentrations of nocodazole would have more of an effect on receptor mediated endocytosis. This was also proven correct by our results. The cells that were treated with the nocodazole inhibitor, didn t take up as much dye compared to the cells that weren t treated the nocodazole. When designing an anti cancer drug, the results that were found in this experiment need to be considered. It was found that the cells were more likely to uptake the drugs at a higher temperature. In particular the uptake of LDL and transferrin was the most successful at 37ยฐC. This temperature is noted as the body temperature. These results make sense because tumors grow in the human body, so the anti cancer drugs need to be the most effective at this body temperature. Also, cells could have been lost throughout the experiment. This would sway the results because there wouldn t be as many shown in the microscope slides. Also counting up the cells to determine which ones were involved with cell uptake could have been done incorrectly. The appearance of these cells on the microscope can be very hard to determine and count. So the numbers found in the results all came from a personal judgment. These market structures including perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly have many characteristics and have an impact on the market as a whole. There are many barriers to entry, competitive pressure and price elasticity that also impact the economic growth of the village. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A monopolistic competition describes a common market structure in which firms have many competitors or sellers, but each one sells a vaguely distinctive product or service. One of this market structure s characteristics is that each individual firm makes independent decisions about price and output, based on its product, its market, and its costs of production (Economics Online, 2015). Another characteristic is there is freedom to enter or leave the market, since there are no major barriers to entry or exit. The opposite of this market structure is an oligopoly. Oligopoly means few sellers. Oligopoly is the market structure in which there are only a few firms or a few firms dominate the market (Amacher Pate, 2013). In an oligopolistic market, each seller supplies a large portion of all the products sold in the marketplace. In addition, because the cost of starting a business in an oligopolistic industry is usually high, the number of firms entering it is low. Local Market Example In the Village of Forest Park, the local electric company, ComEd, has a monopoly over the energy market. While the village residents are able to chose what type of energy they use, whether its coal or wind, each of the energy providers sell their energy to ComEd who then sets the price for its consumers. In August 1962 the Soviet union climbed a higher rung with the Nikolaev popovich expedition.while orbiting the earth, the twin Vostoks were so precisely targeted that they came with them in Astounding. 3 miles of each other. This was the skill needed to accurately join the lunar module with the spacecraft after astronauts had walked in the moon. Again the faithful words of Kennedy rang out through the TV stations and newspapers of America. The eyes of the world look into space to the moon and to the planets beyond we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest. The first landing would be hardly less significant if disaster should overtake the expedition and prevent the safe return of any or all the crewmen. Others would follow and return alive. The media exposed the space race to national attention. Kennedy had said it. A man would walk on the moon before this decade was over, and James E. Webb, Space Agency Director, responded, I happen to think we will make the lunar landing and return before they do. But, the Americans weren t as far behind as they appeared. Sure Russia, had the technology to connect two spacecrafts of equal masses while in orbit, but the U.S. first discovered the magic of attaching spacecrafts of different sizes, which was more realistic. • 37. The Role Of G Protein Coupled Receptorss On the surfaces of many eukaryotic cells, G protein coupled receptors (GPCR s) are present. These receptors are seven trans membrane spanning, with their N terminal on the exoplasmic face of the plasma membrane and their C terminal on the cytosolic [1]. GPCR s play a role in intracellular signalling pathways that result in crucial physiological processes. Cell signalling is an important process required for cellular activity, coordination and the normal growth and development of cells. GPCR s transduce extracellular signals allowing them to respond to the extracellular environment [2]. All GPCR s are coupled to a G protein which is heterotrimeric, meaning it contains three different G protein subunits: Gฮฑ, Gฮฒ and Gฮณ. When an associated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DAG is lipid soluble and so stays in the membrane whereas IP3 is water soluble, so it diffuses through the cytosol. This signalling pathway therefore splits into two branches with the second messengers mediating different functions [4]. On one branch is the signalling cascade downstream of IP3. The IP3 receptors are located on the lumen of the sarcoplasmic reticulum (endoplasmic reticulum out with smooth muscle cells) and when IP3 is bound they release their intracellular Ca2+ store. This release of intracellular Ca2+ increases the Ca2+ concentration in the cytosol from around 0.1 ฮผM to 1 ฮผM [5]. This changes the physiology of the cell, therefore Ca2+ is said to be a second messenger itself. The way in which Ca2+ signals is through the binding of proteins. The Ca2+ binding proteins transduce this signal of the cytosolic concentration of Ca2+ and these certain proteins are called mediator proteins. Such a protein is calmodulin, and is only in its active conformation when Ca2+ is bound. The increase in intracellular Ca2+ by the binding of IP3 to the IP3 receptors promotes the binding of Ca2+to calmodulin forming the Ca2+/calmodulin complex. Proteins that are members of the Ca2+/calmodulin dependent protein kinase family (CaM kinases) are activated by Ca2+/calmodulin. It is the formation of this complex that is fundamental for muscle contraction [4]. Figure 1 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
