Article Summary And Synthesis Essay
The author of this article wrote about a recent discovery of the fossils of a new human like species that
are sparking controversy among several paleoanthropologists. According to the article, the remains
were retrieved by a group of slim excavators from the inside of a deep South African cave. The age of
the bones were found unclear due to the fact that it had been buried in sediments of numerous layers.
Close examinations showed that the fossils had the same traits as several other species in the genus
Homo. The skeletons had similar skulls, legs, and ankles while other traits such as their fingers and rib
cages were slightly different to accommodate other methods of movement. Paleontologists from
various parts of the world have reasoned whether or not they believe that the discovered remains had
any actual relation to the human species. Nonetheless, the researchers believe that any new
information from the bones could help them find out its origin, age, distribution, and deposition into
the cave. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, I chose to write about this article because I was intrigued at the thought that even with our
advanced technology and wide ranged knowledge, there are still many things in our world that remain
a mystery to us. Paleontologists seem to have such an overall exciting and adventure filled time when
they carry out their duties discovering ancient items and places, and then examining them to uncover
their untold histories. In this article, the researchers discovered an unknown species with human like
features and it just blows my mind that they could ve uncovered these artifacts years earlier or later
on. In addition to that, I think it s pretty cool to find a new species to add in the genus Homo and if it
is true that it is in fact part of that group, it would essentially be as if the whole Homo sapien species
found out about a long lost, unknown

What Is The Similarities Between Old Major And Lenin
Of the many things that can be compared between Animal Farm and the Russian Revolution, one of
the most significant similarities is characters. One of the many allegories is Old Major and Vladimir
Lenin. Vladimir Lenin was born on April 10th, 1870. He was born into a wealthy family and early in
his life, his brother was executed for trying to kill Czar Alexander the 3rd in a bombing plot. This
event eventually led him to becoming a Marxist. One of the main things that Lenin is known for is
being one of the founding fathers of Communism and for being the leader of the Bolshevik Party. The
Bolshevik Party was established during the Russian Revolution to overtake the Provisional
Government because of their inability to keep up with their commitments to the Russian citizens.

These situations are very similar being that both figures had attempted shots fired at them while or
shortly after giving a message to their people. The last resemblance between Old Major and Lenin is
that they both had either part or all of their body preserved after death. In Animal Farm, Old Major s
skull was put on display and the animals on the farm had to pass by it daily. The skull of old Major,
now clean of flesh, had been disinterred from the orchard and set up on a stump at the foot of the
flagstaff, beside the gun. After the hoisting of the flag, the animals were required to file past the skull
in a reverent manner before entering the barn (Orwell Another parallel between Animal Farm and the
Russian Revolution is Napolean to Joseph Stalin. Joseph Stalin was born on December 21, 1879. He
was born Josef Vissarionovich Djugashvili, however when he was in his 30s he took the name Stalin,
meaning man of steel . He grew up as an only child and was poor, living with an alcoholic father who
beat him, and a mom who was a laundress. Later in his teen years, he earned a scholarship to attend
seminary. While attending school he began reading the

Teddy Roosevelt Personality
Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground. This is a quote by the best president that
ever served this great nation, and his name was Teddy. Theodore Teddy Roosevelt was born on
October 27, 1858, in New York City to a wealthy family. His parents were Theodore Sr., a
businessman and philanthropist, and Martha Roosevelt. Theodore was the second of four children.
Barnie, his older sister lived from 1855 to 1931. Eliot, his younger brother, was born in 1860 and died
in 1894, and his younger sister Connie, who lived from 1861 to 1933. Roosevelt was born a sickly
child with asthma. Because of this, he began working out as much as he could to compensate for his
disabilities. Roosevelt became an advocate for exercise and the strenuous life. Roosevelt always made
time in his life for active things like hiking, horseback riding, and swimming. When Teddy was just a
young kid, he was taught by many tutors at home. With this education, Theodore Roosevelt enrolled at
Harvard college in 1876, where he studied many subjects including German, Natural History,
Zoology, Forensics, and Composition. While at Harvard, Teddy Roosevelt started wrestling and
boxing to stay in shape. Also at Harvard, Teddy Roosevelt met Alice Hathaway Lee ... Show more

Comparison Of Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening And...
From the two stories Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening written by Robert Frost and Still I
Rise by Maya Angelou they both have something in common, and that is their struggles. The main
idea in Still I Rise by Maya Angelou the speaker is talking about how people might dislike her. Also in
Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening the speaker in the poem is in the beautiful but snowy,
cold woods starving to death. These two main ideas both have definetly something they are struggling
with. This makes the two stories have many things you can compare and contrast with. Adding onto
the main idea of the two stories the struggles they faced is that the speaker from Still I Rise is hated
from people she knows and they do not like her because of her traits. Like the speaker said You may
kill me with your hatefulness (Angelou, stanza 6, line 23). Also in the other story, Stopping by the

The speaker from Still I Rise ignores all the hates that people commented on her, and she did not even
care. She acted like she did not even here anyone say anything about her and just went ahead with no
argument. Like she described herself in the text But still, like dust, I ll rise. (Angelou, stanza 1, line 4).
What the speaker said were some powerful words, that line in the poem explained that whatever
everybody said did not affect her at all. While on the other hand the speaker from Stopping by the
Woods on a Snowy Evening was walking in the really cold woods. Walking like this can be really
risky and dangerous because you are just walking farther from your home and are outside in the wild.
But this did not stop the speaker because he just walked and walked until he knew he was ready to
stop. Like the speaker said But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep (Frost, stanza
4, lines 14 and 15). These are amazing qualities the two speakers had to overcome their

final good imports from Mexico consist of its own [U.S.] value added. As Mexican officials have
pointed out, For every dollar that Mexico earns from exports, 50 cents are spent on American goods .
Even though the U.S imports most of the apparel and footwear, it is worth mentioning that those are
innovated, designed and retailed in the U.S itself. These initiatives gave jobs to almost four million
Americans. (U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 2015, p5)
This section discusses the benefits of trade agreements on the U.S job market. The additional trade
increased combined output of goods and services by around $300 billion. This in effect created or
sustained jobs for 5.4 million Americans. This is the highest job market boost U.S had in recent times.
Free trade reduces U.S jobs, but the statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in fact rejects
that thought. They claimed that U.S manufactures added 800,000 of net jobs. After the North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) came into effect the unemployment rate was reduced. The
bureau also claimed that the remuneration tied to jobs related to international trade was 18% higher
than other jobs. (U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 2015)
The implementation of trade agreements improved the economic condition of various kinds of
manufacturing industries. Small and medium size industries as well benefitted from and they consisted
of one third of exports. Every state in the country benefitted from trade agreements. Even

Influence of Baroque Music to Classical Music
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Music of any period reflects, in its own way, some of the same influences, tendencies, and generative
impulses that are found in the other arts of that time (Donna, 2005). Thus the word baroque, usually
used despairingly by eighteenth century art critics to describe the art and architecture of the
seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, came to be applied also to the music of the seventeenth
and early eighteenth centuries. After some years after the death of Johann Sebastian Bach, the ornate,
formal and strict form of the High Baroque became old fashion and lost its favor. Music slowly began
to change form the style and forms of the High Baroque to a simpler yet tuneful form around 1750.
The period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New forms of polyphonic music were developing because baroque composers felt that the art of
counterpoint was essential to their artistry.
On the other hand, the homophonic method (a musical technique that displays a vast separation
amongst the melody line and the accompaniment) was gaining acceptance and use quite rapidly (The
Baroque Era). The homophonic musical style played a significant role in opera and solo vocal music
because it focused the listener s concentration in the poetic melody of the singer.
Most pieces in baroque music have the basso continuo which gave way to uniformity and unity. Basso
continuo, or figured bass, is an accompaniment which consists of a bass part with numbers which
specify the chords to be played above it. Musical works containing a continuo part helped to convey
harmonic support of chords under the melodic line (The Baroque Era). Kamien (2008) states that
basso continuo is usually played by at least two instruments: an organ or harpsichord and low melodic
instrument like the cello or bassoon.
Kamien (2008) also adds that the organist of harpsichordist plays the bass part with the left hand
which is also played by the cellist or bassoonist. With the right hand, the keyboard player improvises
chords or melodic line by following the numbers. Because the numbers only indicate a basic chord,
the performer has a wide field of freedom.
With continuity of rhythm and melody, baroque music also features continuity of dynamic level. This

Analysis Of On Painting By Leon Alberti
On Painting by Leon Alberti is, in essence, a book of guidelines for novice painters. Alberti explains
that since paintings are meant to represent things that are seen, they need also be approached this way.
In his theory, he breaks up the way of painting into three important components circumscription,
composition, and the reception of light. Within these three are guidelines for the portrayal of subjects,
spaces and emotion.
In the historia, or the work of the painter, there is circumscription, the first step in painting that is
defined by Alberti as the recording of external outlines. He explains that this step should be given
special attention and, ¬in fact, suggests that composition and reception of light should mean nothing
without it. Alberti says that to do circumscription well one must outline everything with a visible line,
and then use a veil. He describes this veil as a layout of parallel lines that allow for the correct
depiction of objects regardless of the position they are in.
Next, Alberti describes the painting component composition, which is the way that objects in a
painting fit together in relationship to one another. It is in this explanation that Alberti delves into
dealing with the perspective of a painting as a whole. As Alberti mentioned in his veil concept, parallel
lines also play a role in constructing objects with angles that rise from the ground. He explains that by
adding perpendicular lines to the parallels, creating a grid, one can measure out the length and width
that every object will be.
A composition must also be well depicted when painting human subjects. Alberti instructs on methods
such as sketching the bones and muscles first and proportioning muscles using the head or length of
the foot. He also highlights the importance of all members of the body looking consistent and
fulfilling the function of what they are doing. The dead should look dead and the living otherwise.
Humans and their actions must be consistent with other subjects in the painting as well. For depicting
emotion, Alberti insists on the use of seven positional body movements that would apply to both living
and inanimate objects, these include up/down, right/left, away/towards and in rotation. The

Kelo V. City Of New London Case Study
One of the primary instances, and landmark cases, that spurred more debates on imminent domain is
the Kelo vs City of New London case. In Kelo v. City of New London, the Supreme Court held that
economic development constituted a public use that justified the taking of private property through
eminent domain. (R N.Y, 2016). Property rights have always been a challenge in every civilization.
This case garnered a lot of interest from the media and in turn that of the rest of U.S residents as it
shocked the nation. The case is related to a development project that the city wanted to undertake to
make the best use of the land in the area. The town of New London, a small city within Connecticut,

My First Obsession Is Life
I have 10 obsessions in life. I m not sure if they will ever go away. But life would be no fun without
any obsessions.
My first obsession is life. I love life and what you can do with it. I love the way people laugh at a joke
or become afraid when watching a scary movie. It amazes me how children feel most safe in their
parents arms. And how you learn so much from how other people before you had lived their life. I
think this one of my obsessions because life can be taken away in a blink of an eye. You never know
when your time is up. So enjoying every second in my eyes is how you ll have the best life possible.
My second obsession is family. I have always loved how families looked in a magazine or on TV. I
love that parents will do anything to make sure their children are loved and safe. And that families do
things together and love each other no matter what. Parents that play outside with the kids and go to
games and concerts. When a child gets hurt, there is a parent there to pick them up. I think this is one
of my obsessions because my mom had me taken away when I was really young. I don t ever
remember her ever picking me up when I fell down or tucking me in at night and kissing me on the
forehead. For a while it was my grandma who did all this but then she got sick, and I had to live with a
family friend, and this is where I still live now. I have always wanted to know what it felt like to have
a happy family. A family that comes to your games because they

Examples Of Satire In The Butter Battle Book
Satire of The Butter Battle Book.
Dr. Seuss, an amazing writer who showed the world of satire and literature to all ages. Books such as
The Lorax, The Foot book and The Butter Battle Book are perfect examples of that. Seuss, a man
known for his creative vision and use of words, made these books a satire gold mine! We already
know about his rhymes but Seuss was also extremely good at using exaggeration. Don t forget his
amazing use of onomatopoeias or his profound use of repetition. I could go on forever but the fact is
Dr Seuss and his creative mind has an amazing talent for using satire to make his books come to life.
To make his books stick around for so long and to open the minds of his reader to the world of satire
and the amazing world of literature.
This creative talent is most clearly shown by the uses of exaggeration all throughout the book The
Butter Battle. Whether it s the fact that these two races are fighting over what side they butter their
bread. Or the fact that each side believes one is worse because of that fact. No matter where you look
in this book, there will always be a use of exaggeration! One being, So you cant trust a Zook who
spreads his bread underneath! Every Zook must be watched! He has kinks in his soul! (Seuss). This
quote is a perfect example of exaggeration, it s very obvious that no one would have kinks in their
soul because of how they butter their bread. Or that every Zook has to be watched! Another great
example would be the line, I ll blow you up he yelled, into pork and wee beans (Seuss). Now we all
know that you cant blow someone up into pork and wee beans! It s just physically impossible but that
doesn t stop Dr. Seuss from using it and using it effectively. To sum this all up, it s very easy to see
that exaggeration is just one of the few pieces of satire Dr. Seuss uses. But it is used extremely
effective and makes the reader more interested and gives them a few laughs in the process!
In addition to exaggeration, Seuss has an incredible knack for using repetition that makes the reader
more engaged. Makes the reader want to see what that next funky word will be, what goofy sentence
will follow. This simple piece of satire has immense power! With just a few

Reflection On Trust
About a year ago today my family was going through many issues that affected my mental well being
tremendously. Being home was similar to being lost, it was a world I wasn t equipped for, and no
longer wanted to be apart of. Things at home took such a turn that my mother sent my sister to live in
Florida with her father, I knew then I no longer had a purpose to stay. Following this occasion, I
started to ask around for places to live, I even went as far as looking for rooms to rent in the area.
Generously one of my best friends, Jessica, offered to let me stay with her for the remainder of the
school year. She and her parents took me in days later, accepting me with loving arms. Living with my
friends family started to become more of a home to me than any home I d lived in prior. This
transformation in my life was one of the first in which I allowed myself to be cared for by others. With
this I want to explore the idea of trust within my life, and how it has affected me. Trust is something I
was taught over time not to believe in, or more importantly I was shown not to believe in. Throughout
many of my life experiences I ve learned that trust can only be plausible if my attitudes towards the
idea would permit it. My sense of trust within people has been diminished, leaving me with the notion
that trusting is a huge risk. The risk of being let down by someone who chose not to commit to an act,
is a risk I am normally am not able to perform. After countless occasions of

The Beer Is Not A New Thing
Beer is not a new thing. Alcoholic beverages date as far back as 10,000 B.C.E and Sumerians in 2000
B.C.E. had prepared recipes for eight different beer types, ranging from strong, red brown, and good
dark (Mauk, 2013). Breweries have created their own recipes, brewed their own beers some with
alcohol, some without and most recently there has been the craft beer explosion. Perhaps the Sumerian
beer could be argued as the first craft beer. Over the past few years, craft beer has been gaining steady
market share from the national and international beer breweries, with a focus on micro breweries and
brew pubs (Murray O Neill, 2012). Separating one beer from the next is the product itself, and what

purchased that which is compared on suitability, quality, price and style (Armstrong Kotler, 2015). The
product line s benefit is that it fills the void for the non alcoholic drinker looking for a great, craft beer
taste without the unwanted alcohol. With the example of a craft beer drinking woman who becomes
pregnant or is now breastfeeding, she will not need to give up drinking good tasting beer. She will be
able to continue enjoying craft beer taste without the worry of alcohol. However, this product line is
not limited to pregnant or breastfeeding women. Others who may enjoy the MBR line is the elderly
and those with liver issues. Generally, MBR is for those who enjoy taste, not just the buzz of alcohol.
MBR will start with six brews, one for each season as well as two other flavors. Upon success, MBR
will look to branch out to include more flavors and tastes. As a means of separation from other beers,
the names of the MBR beers will be reminiscent of song titles. Descriptions and names of the original
six flavors are as follows:
Porterville (Spring): a dark colored American Porter with tastes of honey and vanilla;
Lager Song (Summer): a light, summertime lager with a clean finish;
Blue Oktoberfest (Fall): a deep, flavorful Oktoberfest brew;
Twist and Stout (Winter): a dark, bitter stout;

The Classical Types Of Love
Love is a special emotion that most individuals strives for. Part of a human s nature is to love and long
for another individual. This feeling has existed since the beginning and will continue to exist until the
end. The term love, however, is very broad. To understand more easily what the term means, the
Ancient Greeks came up with three terms to symbolize the three main types of love. The three
classical types of love are very important to understand, as they will continue to exist until the world
ends. The selected poems read reflect three classical types of love.
One type of love that is present in the selected poems is agape love. Agape love is an unconditional
love that is all about sacrifice. Agape love in the highest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker in this poem shows the highest form of agape love by offering the sacrifice of his life to
defend his country, to which he honors all. Another type of love that is important within the selected
poems is storge love. Storge love is a type of love between family and friends. Two examples of this
kind of love are what parents naturally feel for their children or the love that friends feel for each
other. This kind of love also contains commitment and sacrifice. Storge love is portrayed heavily in
Shakespeare s Sonnet 116. In the poem, Shakespeare explains that love is not just an object or
something that can be played with, but rather it is a commitment one makes to one they love. He also
says that love never alters or withers through a relationship s ups and downs. Shakespeare writes,
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
Oh, no! it is an ever fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth s unknown, although his height be taken. (ll. 1 8)
Shakespeare uses a metaphor in line seven as he uses a star as an object to follow. He uses the star to
suggest that love is a guide, and that lovers can look to. Shakespeare makes it very clear that storge
love is very passionate, serious, and not to be taken lightly. As written in this poem, storge love is

Essay on The Situational Leadership Model
The Situational Leadership Model
Situational leadership is interplay between the amounts of direction that a leader allows in: 1) the
amount of directive (task) behavior and 2) the amount of relationship behavior (supportive behavior).
What this means is that when an individual first begins a new task they require a lot of direction and
managerial guidance. As they learn more about the task, the amount of direction decreases until they
can make many of the decisions with the manager providing little input. The situational leadership
model developed and refined by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard divides the model into four ... Show

THE FOUR LEADERSHIP STYLES
[IMAGE]
We begin in the lower right quadrant, S1 directing leadership style. This phase is where the new
employee or older employee learning a new task begins. The directing will require that the leader
define the roles of the follower. The leader initiates problem solving and decision making and directs
communication towards the follower. The leader will tell the follower what to do, how to do it, where
to do it, and when to do it. Close supervision is also involved at this point. The X axis beginning point
is to the extreme right (high directive) indicating that leader will be providing directions. The
rectangular object showing development levels is also to the extreme right but here it signifies that the
amount of learned knowledge (amount of development to perform task) is low. The beginner may
become enthusiastic about wanting to learn. They will probably be highly committed but competence
will be low. The Y axis is on the bottom end showing us that supportive behavior is at a low point.
The second quadrant is located in the upper right, S2 coaching leadership style. This phase is where
the leader listens to the follower, provides support and encourages the follower s efforts, and facilitates
involvement with problem solving and decision making. Communication flows between leader and
follower. The X axis beginning point is to the

Tristan And Iseult Comparative Essay
The Romance of Tristan and Iseult, by Joseph Bédier, and Jean Cocteau s 1943 cinematic adaptation
of the epic love story Eternal Return, both portray the love between Tristan and Iseult, and Patrice and
Natalie as an agonizing cancer that overpowers the lovers after they consume the love potion. But the
differences of how and when the love potion is administered, and the lovers feelings for each other
before the potion is drunk, reveal different depictions of the love potion between the novel and the
film.
The first difference between the film and the novel is when the two lovers drink the love potion. In the
book, they drink the love potion when they are still on the boat and have dropped anchor by an island

their journey from the island, when Patrice asks her if she thought he was proposing to her, she

Summary of Prevail and Transcend Scenario in Radical...
Summary of Prevail and Transcend Scenario In chapter six of Radical Evolution, author Joel Garreau
shows through various interviews and examples that even though technology may be rising on an
exponentially increasing Curve, humans may still be able to change the effects of technological
advance in unpredictable ways. Deemed the Prevail scenario, it is also characterized by humans
slowing down once viewed inevitable change viewed as negative and speeding up positive change.
Another great theme of the Prevail Scenario is its idea that technological advance will enable humans
to acquire a better understanding of their society and nature. In addition to discussing the Prevail
scenario, Garreau also discusses the possible change humans ... Show more content on

Garreau emphasizes this scenario by quoting Faulkner s famous saying that man will prevail because
he has a soul, a spirit capable of passion and sacrifice and endurance (qtd. in 209). Gareau expands on
the concept of the development of human nature in the chapter seven. Through a series of interviews
and examples, Garreau attempts to explain and clarify what it means for humans to transcend and how
technological advance will have an impact on that transcendence. Garreau starts out the chapter with
an explanation that throughout human history, humans have been changing and evolving, with
examples such as fire and writing. Then, Garreau describes the way human nature is being changed:
Even the least educated among us is not raised by wolves, feral and wild. He grows up shaped by
contemporary humans who own television, who have been shaped by modern society (237). This
quote further suggests that human nature may be impacted the advancing GRIN technologies. To
examine this possibility, Garreau interviewed Nick Bostrom, co founder of the World Transhumanist
Association. Bostrom shows his agreement with human transcendence by asserting that Technological
progress makes it harder for people to ignore the fact that we might actually change the human nature
(qtd. in Garreau, 242). Garreau also brings up the topic of civil disruption from such enhancement. As

Improving Education Through Cultural Diversity
In today s society, I ve learned that cultural diversity is important and it has been for many centuries
ago. The dictionary states that cultural diversity is the cohabitation of different values, cultural, sex
and race in one definite component. In America today cultural diversity has been an everyday
expression in the education world. Some have a misunderstanding of what it may mean. We must have
some type of order if we plan to be successful when it comes to having a diverse school. This happens
within our own learning services where our children and our students are well educated. This thesis is

some students say that if you don t know the answer then you can just google it. Children are being
raised in the technology generation where technology is everywhere. But why stop children from
using technology when that s all that is big shown on television, in the media, magazines, radio, etc.
From reading a new article from Pinellas County School District I learned that the children from
Tarpon Springs Elementary school are via video chatting with student from Greece. I find that to be a
great idea to have children interact through technology. Why? Because the questions that the children
are asking some teacher do not know because they have never been to Greece to experience the things
that the children over there have experienced. In case of emergency, how do you get off the island
(Reeves, 2016). A fifth grader asked that question, I felt that whatever question that the children asked
were all good questions. In the article it did not state all the questions but I m pretty sure that some
students had question about their school activities in

Ted Williams Research Paper
The field of voicework is a manifold craft, comprised of such occupations as narrator, voice actor, and
radio announcer. These occupations vary in their responsibilities and purposes, yet all share a common
component that lies central to their accomplishment. Voice. In particular, a warm and confident voice.
In the year of 2011 one such voice was found in a most unlikely place. It was in January of that year
that a seemingly innocuous video was filmed and posted on the internet. The subject of that video was
one Ted Williams who, at the time, was bereft of a home. Williams was possessed of a noticeably deep
and striking voice which soon led to an explosion of popularity centered around the video itself. With
this popularity came a recognition of talent, and soon enough he had found himself afloat in a
proverbial sea of opportunity. Williams, as noted prior, was unfortunately homeless at the time. A
string of misfortune and poor decisions led him along a downward spiral into destitution. It can be ...

nonprofit organization that assists homeless shelters, has improved the living conditions of countless
who find themselves in a situation identical to his own. Williams continues onward, unheeded by
obstruction. Now enjoying married life, Williams is without the trouble that once plagued him. Such a
man found success in the dreariest of times, but where is he now? Those with a penchant for
storytelling will no doubt be pleased to learn that he has returned to that singular radio station which
started it all. The

The History Of Beached Whales
A whale was stranded on a Christchurch beach in 2009. It died, despite the desperate attempts to
revive the mammal and assist it back into the water. Many residents of Southshore beach tried to keep
the whale hydrated and and attempt to push the animal back to sea.Whaling began in the 11th century,
when the Basques started hunting and trading products from the North Atlantic right whale (now one
of the most endangered species of great whale). They were followed first by the Dutch and British,
and later by the Americans, Norwegians and many other nations. Australia had a commercial Whaling
industry until 1978. Japanese whaled mainly for humpback, right and grey whales, developed
separately in small coastal communities. From the late nineteenth century onwards, advancements in
technology, such as steam powered boats and the harpoon gun, enabled Whalers to target more species

This is also to avoid having to change the design during construction resulting in delays and increased
costs. For this project a ground investigation survey was carried out between 10 June and 26 July. This
involved the excavation mechanically and by hand of trial pits and the drilling of exploratory holes.
Selected samples from the tests were collected to assess the presence of contamination and
geotechnical characteristics. Based on the ground investigation, potential for significant contamination
is considered low due to a lack of mobile contaminants that could potentially be released to the
environment. In addition the assessment carried out to find if groundwater, and surface water features

Human Genetics And Molecular Mechanisms
Having a childhood friend with an abnormal genetic condition had a significant impact in my life at a
very early stage. As a child, I was puzzled with questions about him being different than rest of the
children. It was only during my middle and high school that I learnt about genetics and started
embracing the concept of DNA and the mutations associated with genes which could lead to abnormal
genetic conditions. This little exposure to genetics helped me in understanding why my friend was
different from rest of us and motivated me to further pursue my interest in biological sciences.
To learn more about human genetics and molecular mechanisms involved in the various genetic
disorders, I decided to pursue a comprehensive undergraduate course at Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla
University, (Raipur, India). My undergraduate studies gave me an opportunity to learn a wide variety
of concepts in human genetics along with chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and
biotechnology. As part of my curriculum, I worked for a summer research project involved with
Human Cytogenetics in Genetech which is India s one of the leading genetic testing laboratory based
in Hyderabad. This gave me a hands on training in handling patients sample and performing
karyotyping on the same. During this program, I also got an opportunity to participate in a few genetic
counselling sessions which not only made me aware of radical approach the counsellors follow to help

In this essay I am going to compare and contrast the governments of Japan and Mexico. I want to
analyze the effects and ramifications of political institutions within these countries. This essay will
contain but is not limited to discussing the following institutions: electoral systems, legislative
structures, and parties, executives, and federalism and subnational units. I would like to begin by
discussing the government of Japan. The Emperor of Japan is not merely the emblem of Japan, but he
is granted the power to propagate amendments of the Constitution, create policies and laws, and
execute cabinet orders. He also has the power to appoint both the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice
of the Supreme Court, which are first selected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Councilors term of office is six years, and half of the members are elected every three years. A
candidate must be at least thirty years old to run for the House of Councilors. The House of
Representatives and the House of Councilors have almost the exact same powers. The House of
Representatives, however, heads that of the house of councilors. Executive power is conferred upon
the Cabinet, which comprises of the Prime Minister and less than seventeen Ministers of State. The
Cabinet has to quit all together when the position of Prime Minister becomes unfilled or when the
initial session of the Diet is convoked after a general election of members of the House of
Representatives. If the House of Representatives passes a non confidence resolution or dismisses a
confidence resolution the Cabinet will quit all together, unless the House of Representatives is
disbanded within ten days. (Sawe 2016) The election for the House of Representatives is held every
four years. A candidate must be at least twenty five years old to run for office. The Prime Minister of
Japan is a Japanese citizen who, appointed by the Emperor, is designated from among the members of
the Diet by a resolution. The Prime Ministers has the power to appoint the Ministers of State and may
relieve them of their job as he sees fit. His primary role is submitting bills to the Diet and reporting on
national affairs and international relations.

You need to carry out an exercise programme exactly as specified in the care plan and record and
report the outcomes and any problems at each step. Others involved in an individual s mobility
activities could include an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, G.P. or community nurse.
If the mobility activities are less formal and the outcome required is to maintain the individual s
mobility on a daily basis this can be done through active support and encouragement. You should
encourage the individual to do things for themselves and participate in activity and exercise where
possible. An example would be to encourage their participation in household activities You should
identify and agree with the individual the best way for them to maintain their mobility and any
preferences to the form of exercise they prefer. It is important to ensure the individual agrees as it is
important they are willing to participate in order for the programme to work.

Maternal Depression in Women and Its Effect on the Family
Maternal Depression
Depression is a prevalent issue among women. Approximately 25% of women in will have a major
depressive disorder at least once in their lifetime and 15% of the female population will experience
post partum depression. (Women and Mental Illness, 2003) With these numbers, it is obvious that
maternal depression has profound effect on the Canadian family. Mother have the most influence in a
child s life, since they generally more involved in raising the children then men are. In most cases, this
influence serves to direct the child to healthy development. But when the mother is suffering from
depression, what effect does it have on the intellectual and emotional development of her child? The
child is definitively affected starting as early as infancy and through adolescence.
Depression: Symptoms and Causes
Depression may be simply defined as a state of sadness. Many may feel depressed for a short time
when things do not go their way, but when this feeling persists and interferes with daily activity a
doctor may diagnose an individual with clinical depression and order medication. Genetic
predisposition, personal problems, and seasonal hormonal changes are some of the many things that
may trigger depression. A depressed individual may encounter feelings of despair and sadness,
constant fatigue, constant headaches, among other things. If left untreated, depression may lead to
suicide. (Mood Disorders, 2003)

Art Intergration in Education
Annotated Bibliography: Art Integration in Education The arts provide many unique benefits and
opportunities for those who are interested. It is a priceless way of expressing yourself and
understanding those around you. There are some things that can only be expressed through a form of
art, whether it be music, paintings, film, or writing. Art not only teaches us about ourselves and
emotions, but it uses a different part of our brain to put our art into effect. Art is essential for our lives
and therefore is fundamental to include in our education. The topic for my argument is saving the arts
in education and why it is important and necessary for students to have arts implemented into their
schooling. My policy claim is continue using the same funding that schools have been using for arts
otherwise students learn differently without arts. My research questions needed for this argument
included: Why is art important for education? as well as, How do the arts affect learning? In order to
learn more and gain more adequate information I also asked the following questions: What are the
mental and cognitive benefits to arts in education?, How much would it really take to keep the arts?,
and What effects have taken place since the arts have been cut? Integrating arts in education has been
a topic over the last few decades. However, saving the art programs in education is a more recent issue
within the last 8 10 years as school budgets have tightened and as well as the

Human Nature
For hundreds of years people have written countless books about war. Some have chosen to write
simply about the events that took place during the war, in the form a historical account, while others
have chosen to write about their own, or other people s experiences. However, many of them have
portrayed war as being glorious and associated it with valor and honor, suggesting that all participants
of war were heroes. In a way these kinds of writings were encouraging warfare by depicting the act of
war and its partakers as being admirable. On the contrary, Slaughterhouse Five written by Kurt

There are shifts in the tone of the passage. The narrator has a somewhat bitter tone when he is talking
about being left behind by the plane. The line And I became a non person in the Boston fog…with
some other non persons… (20) shows that he is both frustrated for not being able to have power over
the situation which he and the others are in. The plane that was scheduled to go to Frankfurt had gone
ahead, but a number of people including the narrator himself who were supposed to be on the plane,
were not. The narrator is saddened by this situation, which makes it seem like they disappeared off the
face of the earth, and became non existent. Once in the motel room, the narrator s tone display signs of
impatience and irritation, as he talks about the time not passing. The narrator uses hyperbole in the
line The second hand of my watch would twitch once, and a year would pass, and then it would twitch
again (20) to emphasize on how slowly the time is passing. There was nothing I could do about it (20).
This line shows the narrator s helplessness and his inability to control the situation. Finally, the tone
becomes sarcastic after he reads the excerpt from the Gideon Bible about the destruction of Sodom
and Gomorrah. Those were vile people in both those cities, as is well known. The world was better of
without them (21).

Psychological Effects Of Deindividuation
The need to belong is an innate need among humanity. Whether it means joining a group of people
with the same interests, religious beliefs, or ethnicity, people tend to cling to those who relatively have
the same characteristics. This can simply be observed in a high school cafeteria, most notably
separating groups by athletic or academic interests, within these groups, each person is taking action
to be more liked by each of its members. Although a majority of groups are not extremists, the ones
that are, thrive because of social influence and the need to belong. In comparison to the social
psychological perspective of the Nazi regime, members of the Islamic State (IS) are susceptible to
group polarization due to excessive use of social media. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the Nazi regime did not have computers, the social influence of propaganda was still
successful. Propaganda is used as a tool to manipulate and provoke behaviors to further the intentions
of the group. When people already have pre existing beliefs, they are enhanced by propaganda, which
makes it a useful, but dangerous tool when the intentions of the group are to harm those who have
different beliefs. Similar to the Nazis, the intentions of ISIS is to protect the land and, according to the
Quran, only Muslims may live in the caliphate while obeying and promoting their government efforts.

because there was only so much food to go around (Atwood 117). In a world with so much why do
young children and families with so little have to suffer? Why must these girls come to peace with the

  • 2. Article Summary And Synthesis Essay The author of this article wrote about a recent discovery of the fossils of a new human like species that are sparking controversy among several paleoanthropologists. According to the article, the remains were retrieved by a group of slim excavators from the inside of a deep South African cave. The age of the bones were found unclear due to the fact that it had been buried in sediments of numerous layers. Close examinations showed that the fossils had the same traits as several other species in the genus Homo. The skeletons had similar skulls, legs, and ankles while other traits such as their fingers and rib cages were slightly different to accommodate other methods of movement. Paleontologists from various parts of the world have reasoned whether or not they believe that the discovered remains had any actual relation to the human species. Nonetheless, the researchers believe that any new information from the bones could help them find out its origin, age, distribution, and deposition into the cave. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, I chose to write about this article because I was intrigued at the thought that even with our advanced technology and wide ranged knowledge, there are still many things in our world that remain a mystery to us. Paleontologists seem to have such an overall exciting and adventure filled time when they carry out their duties discovering ancient items and places, and then examining them to uncover their untold histories. In this article, the researchers discovered an unknown species with human like features and it just blows my mind that they could ve uncovered these artifacts years earlier or later on. In addition to that, I think it s pretty cool to find a new species to add in the genus Homo and if it is true that it is in fact part of that group, it would essentially be as if the whole Homo sapien species found out about a long lost, unknown ... • 3. What Is The Similarities Between Old Major And Lenin Of the many things that can be compared between Animal Farm and the Russian Revolution, one of the most significant similarities is characters. One of the many allegories is Old Major and Vladimir Lenin. Vladimir Lenin was born on April 10th, 1870. He was born into a wealthy family and early in his life, his brother was executed for trying to kill Czar Alexander the 3rd in a bombing plot. This event eventually led him to becoming a Marxist. One of the main things that Lenin is known for is being one of the founding fathers of Communism and for being the leader of the Bolshevik Party. The Bolshevik Party was established during the Russian Revolution to overtake the Provisional Government because of their inability to keep up with their commitments to the Russian citizens. When speaking of Old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These situations are very similar being that both figures had attempted shots fired at them while or shortly after giving a message to their people. The last resemblance between Old Major and Lenin is that they both had either part or all of their body preserved after death. In Animal Farm, Old Major s skull was put on display and the animals on the farm had to pass by it daily. The skull of old Major, now clean of flesh, had been disinterred from the orchard and set up on a stump at the foot of the flagstaff, beside the gun. After the hoisting of the flag, the animals were required to file past the skull in a reverent manner before entering the barn (Orwell Another parallel between Animal Farm and the Russian Revolution is Napolean to Joseph Stalin. Joseph Stalin was born on December 21, 1879. He was born Josef Vissarionovich Djugashvili, however when he was in his 30s he took the name Stalin, meaning man of steel . He grew up as an only child and was poor, living with an alcoholic father who beat him, and a mom who was a laundress. Later in his teen years, he earned a scholarship to attend seminary. Theodore Teddy Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858, in New York City to a wealthy family. His parents were Theodore Sr., a businessman and philanthropist, and Martha Roosevelt. Theodore was the second of four children. Barnie, his older sister lived from 1855 to 1931. Because of this, he began working out as much as he could to compensate for his disabilities. Roosevelt became an advocate for exercise and the strenuous life. Roosevelt always made time in his life for active things like hiking, horseback riding, and swimming. When Teddy was just a young kid, he was taught by many tutors at home. With this education, Theodore Roosevelt enrolled at Harvard college in 1876, where he studied many subjects including German, Natural History, Zoology, Forensics, and Composition. • 5. Comparison Of Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening And... From the two stories Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening written by Robert Frost and Still I Rise by Maya Angelou they both have something in common, and that is their struggles. The main idea in Still I Rise by Maya Angelou the speaker is talking about how people might dislike her. Also in Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening the speaker in the poem is in the beautiful but snowy, cold woods starving to death. These two main ideas both have definetly something they are struggling with. This makes the two stories have many things you can compare and contrast with. Adding onto the main idea of the two stories the struggles they faced is that the speaker from Still I Rise is hated from people she knows and they do not like her because of her traits. Like the speaker said You may kill me with your hatefulness (Angelou, stanza 6, line 23). Also in the other story, Stopping by the Woods on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker from Still I Rise ignores all the hates that people commented on her, and she did not even care. She acted like she did not even here anyone say anything about her and just went ahead with no argument. Like she described herself in the text But still, like dust, I ll rise. (Angelou, stanza 1, line 4). What the speaker said were some powerful words, that line in the poem explained that whatever everybody said did not affect her at all. While on the other hand the speaker from Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening was walking in the really cold woods. Walking like this can be really risky and dangerous because you are just walking farther from your home and are outside in the wild. But this did not stop the speaker because he just walked and walked until he knew he was ready to stop. Like the speaker said But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep (Frost, stanza 4, lines 14 and 15). These are amazing qualities the two speakers had to overcome their ... As Mexican officials have pointed out, For every dollar that Mexico earns from exports, 50 cents are spent on American goods . Even though the U.S imports most of the apparel and footwear, it is worth mentioning that those are innovated, designed and retailed in the U.S itself. These initiatives gave jobs to almost four million Americans. (U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 2015, p5) This section discusses the benefits of trade agreements on the U.S job market. • 7. Influence of Baroque Music to Classical Music CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Music of any period reflects, in its own way, some of the same influences, tendencies, and generative impulses that are found in the other arts of that time (Donna, 2005). Thus the word baroque, usually used despairingly by eighteenth century art critics to describe the art and architecture of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, came to be applied also to the music of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. After some years after the death of Johann Sebastian Bach, the ornate, formal and strict form of the High Baroque became old fashion and lost its favor. Music slowly began to change form the style and forms of the High Baroque to a simpler yet tuneful form around 1750. The period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New forms of polyphonic music were developing because baroque composers felt that the art of counterpoint was essential to their artistry. On the other hand, the homophonic method (a musical technique that displays a vast separation amongst the melody line and the accompaniment) was gaining acceptance and use quite rapidly (The Baroque Era). The homophonic musical style played a significant role in opera and solo vocal music because it focused the listener s concentration in the poetic melody of the singer. Most pieces in baroque music have the basso continuo which gave way to uniformity and unity. Basso continuo, or figured bass, is an accompaniment which consists of a bass part with numbers which specify the chords to be played above it. Musical works containing a continuo part helped to convey harmonic support of chords under the melodic line (The Baroque Era). Kamien (2008) states that basso continuo is usually played by at least two instruments: an organ or harpsichord and low melodic instrument like the cello or bassoon. Kamien (2008) also adds that the organist of harpsichordist plays the bass part with the left hand which is also played by the cellist or bassoonist. With the right hand, the keyboard player improvises chords or melodic line by following the numbers. Because the numbers only indicate a basic chord, the performer has a wide field of freedom. With continuity of rhythm and melody, baroque music also features continuity of dynamic level. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of On Painting By Leon Alberti On Painting by Leon Alberti is, in essence, a book of guidelines for novice painters. Alberti explains that since paintings are meant to represent things that are seen, they need also be approached this way. In his theory, he breaks up the way of painting into three important components circumscription, composition, and the reception of light. Within these three are guidelines for the portrayal of subjects, spaces and emotion. In the historia, or the work of the painter, there is circumscription, the first step in painting that is defined by Alberti as the recording of external outlines. He explains that this step should be given special attention and, ¬in fact, suggests that composition and reception of light should mean nothing without it. Alberti says that to do circumscription well one must outline everything with a visible line, and then use a veil. He describes this veil as a layout of parallel lines that allow for the correct depiction of objects regardless of the position they are in. Next, Alberti describes the painting component composition, which is the way that objects in a painting fit together in relationship to one another. It is in this explanation that Alberti delves into dealing with the perspective of a painting as a whole. As Alberti mentioned in his veil concept, parallel lines also play a role in constructing objects with angles that rise from the ground. He explains that by adding perpendicular lines to the parallels, creating a grid, one can measure out the length and width that every object will be. A composition must also be well depicted when painting human subjects. Alberti instructs on methods such as sketching the bones and muscles first and proportioning muscles using the head or length of the foot. He also highlights the importance of all members of the body looking consistent and fulfilling the function of what they are doing. The dead should look dead and the living otherwise. Humans and their actions must be consistent with other subjects in the painting as well. For depicting emotion, Alberti insists on the use of seven positional body movements that would apply to both living and inanimate objects, these include up/down, right/left, away/towards and in rotation. I love life and what you can do with it. I love the way people laugh at a joke or become afraid when watching a scary movie. It amazes me how children feel most safe in their parents arms. And how you learn so much from how other people before you had lived their life. I think this one of my obsessions because life can be taken away in a blink of an eye. You never know when your time is up. So enjoying every second in my eyes is how you ll have the best life possible. My second obsession is family. I have always loved how families looked in a magazine or on TV. I love that parents will do anything to make sure their children are loved and safe. And that families do things together and love each other no matter what. Parents that play outside with the kids and go to games and concerts. When a child gets hurt, there is a parent there to pick them up. I think this is one of my obsessions because my mom had me taken away when I was really young. I don t ever remember her ever picking me up when I fell down or tucking me in at night and kissing me on the forehead. For a while it was my grandma who did all this but then she got sick, and I had to live with a family friend, and this is where I still live now. • 11. Examples Of Satire In The Butter Battle Book Satire of The Butter Battle Book. Dr. Seuss, an amazing writer who showed the world of satire and literature to all ages. Books such as The Lorax, The Foot book and The Butter Battle Book are perfect examples of that. Seuss, a man known for his creative vision and use of words, made these books a satire gold mine! We already know about his rhymes but Seuss was also extremely good at using exaggeration. Don t forget his amazing use of onomatopoeias or his profound use of repetition. I could go on forever but the fact is Dr Seuss and his creative mind has an amazing talent for using satire to make his books come to life. To make his books stick around for so long and to open the minds of his reader to the world of satire and the amazing world of literature. This creative talent is most clearly shown by the uses of exaggeration all throughout the book The Butter Battle. Whether it s the fact that these two races are fighting over what side they butter their bread. Or the fact that each side believes one is worse because of that fact. No matter where you look in this book, there will always be a use of exaggeration! One being, So you cant trust a Zook who spreads his bread underneath! Every Zook must be watched! He has kinks in his soul! (Seuss). This quote is a perfect example of exaggeration, it s very obvious that no one would have kinks in their soul because of how they butter their bread. Or that every Zook has to be watched! Another great example would be the line, I ll blow you up he yelled, into pork and wee beans (Seuss). Now we all know that you cant blow someone up into pork and wee beans! It s just physically impossible but that doesn t stop Dr. Seuss from using it and using it effectively. To sum this all up, it s very easy to see that exaggeration is just one of the few pieces of satire Dr. Seuss uses. But it is used extremely effective and makes the reader more interested and gives them a few laughs in the process! In addition to exaggeration, Seuss has an incredible knack for using repetition that makes the reader more engaged. Makes the reader want to see what that next funky word will be, what goofy sentence will follow. This simple piece of satire has immense power! With just a few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Reflection On Trust About a year ago today my family was going through many issues that affected my mental well being tremendously. Being home was similar to being lost, it was a world I wasn t equipped for, and no longer wanted to be apart of. Things at home took such a turn that my mother sent my sister to live in Florida with her father, I knew then I no longer had a purpose to stay. Following this occasion, I started to ask around for places to live, I even went as far as looking for rooms to rent in the area. Generously one of my best friends, Jessica, offered to let me stay with her for the remainder of the school year. She and her parents took me in days later, accepting me with loving arms. Living with my friends family started to become more of a home to me than any home I d lived in prior. This transformation in my life was one of the first in which I allowed myself to be cared for by others. With this I want to explore the idea of trust within my life, and how it has affected me. Trust is something I was taught over time not to believe in, or more importantly I was shown not to believe in. Throughout many of my life experiences I ve learned that trust can only be plausible if my attitudes towards the idea would permit it. My sense of trust within people has been diminished, leaving me with the notion that trusting is a huge risk. The risk of being let down by someone who chose not to commit to an act, is a risk I am normally am not able to perform. After countless occasions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Breweries have created their own recipes, brewed their own beers some with alcohol, some without and most recently there has been the craft beer explosion. Perhaps the Sumerian beer could be argued as the first craft beer. Over the past few years, craft beer has been gaining steady market share from the national and international beer breweries, with a focus on micro breweries and brew pubs (Murray O Neill, 2012). Two examples of this kind of love are what parents naturally feel for their children or the love that friends feel for each other. This kind of love also contains commitment and sacrifice. Storge love is portrayed heavily in Shakespeare s Sonnet 116. In the poem, Shakespeare explains that love is not just an object or something that can be played with, but rather it is a commitment one makes to one they love. He also says that love never alters or withers through a relationship s ups and downs. Shakespeare writes, Let me not to the marriage of true minds Admit impediments. Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove: Oh, no! it is an ever fixed mark, That looks on tempests and is never shaken; It is the star to every wandering bark, Whose worth s unknown, although his height be taken. (ll. 1 8) Shakespeare uses a metaphor in line seven as he uses a star as an object to follow. He uses the star to suggest that love is a guide, and that lovers can look to. Through a series of interviews and examples, Garreau attempts to explain and clarify what it means for humans to transcend and how technological advance will have an impact on that transcendence. Then, Garreau describes the way human nature is being changed: Even the least educated among us is not raised by wolves, feral and wild. He grows up shaped by contemporary humans who own television, who have been shaped by modern society (237). • 28. Art Intergration in Education Annotated Bibliography: Art Integration in Education The arts provide many unique benefits and opportunities for those who are interested. It is a priceless way of expressing yourself and understanding those around you. There are some things that can only be expressed through a form of art, whether it be music, paintings, film, or writing. Art not only teaches us about ourselves and emotions, but it uses a different part of our brain to put our art into effect. Art is essential for our lives and therefore is fundamental to include in our education. The topic for my argument is saving the arts in education and why it is important and necessary for students to have arts implemented into their schooling. My policy claim is continue using the same funding that schools have been using for arts otherwise students learn differently without arts. My research questions needed for this argument included: Why is art important for education? as well as, How do the arts affect learning? In order to learn more and gain more adequate information I also asked the following questions: What are the mental and cognitive benefits to arts in education?, How much would it really take to keep the arts?, and What effects have taken place since the arts have been cut? Integrating arts in education has been a topic over the last few decades. However, saving the art programs in education is a more recent issue within the last 8 10 years as school budgets have tightened and as well as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Human Nature Essay Human Nature For hundreds of years people have written countless books about war. Some have chosen to write simply about the events that took place during the war, in the form a historical account, while others have chosen to write about their own, or other people s experiences. However, many of them have portrayed war as being glorious and associated it with valor and honor, suggesting that all participants of war were heroes. In a way these kinds of writings were encouraging warfare by depicting the act of war and its partakers as being admirable. On the contrary, Slaughterhouse Five written by Kurt Vonnegut is an anti war book. Not only does it reveal the horrors of war, but it also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The line And I became a non person in the Boston fog…with some other non persons… (20) shows that he is both frustrated for not being able to have power over the situation which he and the others are in. The plane that was scheduled to go to Frankfurt had gone ahead, but a number of people including the narrator himself who were supposed to be on the plane, were not. The narrator is saddened by this situation, which makes it seem like they disappeared off the face of the earth, and became non existent. Once in the motel room, the narrator s tone display signs of impatience and irritation, as he talks about the time not passing. The narrator uses hyperbole in the line The second hand of my watch would twitch once, and a year would pass, and then it would twitch again (20) to emphasize on how slowly the time is passing. There was nothing I could do about it (20). This line shows the narrator s helplessness and his inability to control the situation. Finally, the tone becomes sarcastic after he reads the excerpt from the Gideon Bible about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Those were vile people in both those cities, as is well known. The world was better of without them (21). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Psychological Effects Of Deindividuation The need to belong is an innate need among humanity. Whether it means joining a group of people with the same interests, religious beliefs, or ethnicity, people tend to cling to those who relatively have the same characteristics. This can simply be observed in a high school cafeteria, most notably separating groups by athletic or academic interests, within these groups, each person is taking action to be more liked by each of its members. Although a majority of groups are not extremists, the ones that are, thrive because of social influence and the need to belong. The story takes place in a not so distant future where today s world no longer exists due to an unknown catastrophe. The only human is a man who calls himself the Abominable Snowman or Snowman for short, but in his childhood days his name was Jimmy. If the thought of being all alone in the world is not uneasy enough, Atwood takes this opportunity to point out the flaws of the modern world through Snowman s reminiscing about Jimmy s childhood. Force 4 Compassion, a website designated to informing the public about human trafficking reports, 3,287 people are sold or kidnaped and forced into slavery every day. That s 136 an hour and that s just the reported cases ( Human Trafficking Facts ). Atwood shines light on the situation by stating one of the main reasons human trafficking occurs is because there was only so much food to go around (Atwood 117). In a world with so much why do young children and families with so little have to suffer? Why must these girls come to peace with the images they have seen? Why must families justify the sales of their daughters by stating In the village it was not called selling, this transaction. The talk about it implied apprenticeship. The children were being trained to earn their living in a wide world (Atwood 116). An honest living that involves a girl not yet a teenage to undress in front of a man multiple times her age in exchange for money (Atwood 131). It does not have to be that way. Atwood makes that clear. If the root of the problem is there is not enough food for the children to survive there is a simple solution. If society was more aware of what was happening the increase in awareness and charitable contributions could lead to a hopeful tomorrow. While this answer seems easy enough to apply the ...
