The American Of American National History Essay
Introduction.
George Washington stands at the origins of American national history. Many Americans call him the
father of our country . Washington commanded the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. He
led the American colonists to freedom from British rule. He headed the convention that created the
U.S. Constitution, as president of the republic Washington has created a basis for a federal government
in which the Americans were able to find their national agreement. Despite his accomplishments as a
general, political leader, businessman, and emancipator, Washington can also be defined as a family
man. After marriage with Martha Dandridge Custis, he raised her two children as his very own.
George Washington loved the country and its people. The country, also, loved him and respected.
James Russell Lowell, an American romantic poet, wrote about Washington next:
Soldier and statesman, rarest unison;
High poised example of great duties done
Simply as breathing, a world s honors worn
As life s indifferent gifts to all men born (Harrington 49).
George Washington was a man of an extraordinary abilities and visionary leader, he left the trace in
the history of the USA as a great man, as genius leader of army and as the first president.
G. Washington as a Person.
George Washington was a son of an ambitious colonial entrepreneur, Augustine Washington and Mary
Ball. He was born at Bridges Creek, in Westmoreland County, Virginia on February 22, 1732. George

Cardiologist Goals
People have many different goals for this school year depending on their preferences and how far they
want to make and plan with the help of this year. Some students want to get a better job while others
want to play sports and maintain their grades. I as a student in the Medical Assisting program has set
my goals knowing that I will be able to meet them and achieve success. Hence, my goals for this
school year is to get and maintain an high A average in my Medical Assisting program as well as in
my Deltech Anatomy and Physiology course, score a 1300 or better on my SAT s and get in a better
rank in my class.
My first goal that I want to pursue and persevere to achieve is to obtain and maintain an A average for
my Medical Assisting program and in my Deltech Anatomy and Physiology course. I personally
always want to have success in my medical classes because I have a great passion for the medical
field. The reason for that is because I want to pursue the medical field in my college career as well and
attain the highest success which is also my dream and that is to become a Cardiologist. Therefore, I
have made up mine to never give up and to always work harder. ... Show more content on

The way I will achieve that goal is by practicing from SAT prep books in a timely manner. So, for the
English section I am continuing my practice from Khan Academy and have started to practice with a
timer and I have started to practice my writing skills as well. As for the Math I am currently and will
be continuing to practice on Khan Academy as well as watching videos to learn the concepts that I
have previously not studied. Thus, with the amount of effort that I am putting into this preparation I
know that when I attain a 1300 or better on my SAT, it will prove to other students that as long as they
persevere and they are determined to achieve their goal and success that their is nothing that can stop

Manifest Destiny and Race
Laurence Mandin Professor Charles Turner M.A. J.D. History 18 25 March 2011 Midterm Question
#1 part 2: What impact did the English view of race have on American society? (Worth 50 points)
note: I felt it was more logical for my purposes to place part 2 first. The English view of race
developed directly from their perceptions of themselves, from the ideas of their own racial origins,
their own ethnocentricity. This perception became a concept that had its roots in 16th and 17th
Century England. It involved their ancestry to the peoples of England prior to the Norman Conquest of
1066, and further back to the Nordic and Germanic peoples of ancient, continental Europe. It didn t
start here; their Caucasian ancestry was believed to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This vanguard of chosen people would see their noble sentiments of self government tainted by a
legacy of racial superiority that would contribute to the near extinction of Native Americans, the brutal
subjugation of African peoples, and a history of racial bigotry and strife. These entrenched racial
attitudes would reach a pinnacle in the first half of 19th Century America (Horsman intro),
culminating in the Civil War of 1861: one of the bloodiest wars in world history it left 600,000
Americans dead, white and black. That catastrophic conflict ended 150 years ago and we still have not
seen the end of the terrible manifestation of Anglo American racism. Midterm Question #1 part 1:
Race and ethnicity have played major roles in American social history. How do these constructs relate
to an explanation of what it means to be an American? The description of Africa as the dark
mysterious continent is a description that can also be applied to her continental sisters sharing similar
latitudes in the Western Hemisphere, the areas now known as Latin America. These continents, as well
as large parts of vast Asia, seem to be areas of the earth where many dark complected peoples reside.
Ironically these areas of mystery and darkness receive the most light from our sun, causing the
evolution of a protective coloring in the outer covering of the human body. Without

Egyptian Influence On The Minoans
Minoan art provides insight into the culture that flourished during the Bronze age in Crete during 1900
BCE to 1375 BCE. The art of the Minoans convey a society of joyous nature, being in touch with their
environment, and in awe of the order of the natural world. Above all, the artifacts reveal a society who
had developed a high degree of self respect and a keen eye for observing and adapting to their
physical environment. Art reached its pinnacle point during the late Minoan period. They created the
greatest legacy of the art; that art was used be used for art s sake, splendor.
The first Greek civilization was that of the Minoans on the island of Crete. The Minoans were heavily
influenced by two older Near Eastern civilizations, Mesopotamia and Egypt. Egyptian influence on
the Minoans was evident. Minoan architecture used columns such as Egyptian architecture did, except
the Minoans utilized wood as their material for columns. Minoan art also replicated Egyptian art by
showing people in profile. However, the Minoans added their own touches, making their figures much

There are scarce traces of history of the Old Palace period, c. 1900 1700 BCE of the Minoan people.
The term Minoans derived from Greek myths concerning the legendary king of Crete, Minos, who
ruled a vast sea empire. With most myths, there is a grain of truth to be taken away. The myth of
Theseus and the Minotaur where Athens had to send a yearly sacrifice of its children to Crete, reflects
Minoan rule and indicates that they partook in human sacrifice to the gods. The Knossos palace , later
known as the Labyrinth rooted from labrys by the greeks and became home of the legendary beast, the
Minotaur. The palace complex, built during the Old Palace Period, was enormous and confusing to

Reactivity Lab
Once the lab was completed, it was realized that there are different levels of reactivity between all
metals. It was also realized that they react to different things such as Calcium reacting to water and the
other four metals not reacting to water. To carry out the experiment, there was a set of steps that were
followed to get results. All five metals were placed in water in separate test tubes to start with.
Calcium was the only one that reacted with water while the rest of the metals didn t. Those metals that
had no reaction with water were taken aside and the water inside their test tube was poured out. Once
the water was poured out with the metal remaining in the test tube, weak acid was poured in. The
results of the four metals with acid were then observed and recorded. ... Show more content on

However, the only metal that had no reaction when placed in both water and acid was Copper. Copper
doesn t react with water because the oxygen in water is locked into a compound with one part oxygen
and two parts hydrogen. Copper also doesn t react with acids because its electrode potential is higher
than that of hydrogen, meaning that pure copper cannot displace hydrogen from weak acids but can
easily react with oxidising acids like nitric acid and sulfuric acid. The purpose of this lab was to test
the reactivity of certain metals, then create an activity series based on observations. A potential source
of error could have been when the water was being poured out of the test tubes with metals that had no
reactions, some of the metals that were in powder form could have been accidentally poured out with
the water and so when the acid was placed in there wasn t enough of the metal to cause a

Psalms Of Life Henry Longfellow
An Analysis of 3 messages in Psalm of Life Life is too short to wait. There won t always be time in
life. People need to realize that time does not slow down, if anything it feels faster. Everyone needs to
look at life one day at a time, because if you look and plan for just the future life will breeze right past
you. Many people just look forward to their death instead of trying to see what they can accomplish on
this earth. If people were to just see what their true potential is, then they would understand why life
should not be wasted. Henry Longfellow was a man that was a poet, his was also a traveler and a
romantic. He wrote what the old type of poetry, known to have rhyme and rhythm. He identified
European literature and thoughts throughout his poet. In Henry Longfellow Poem A Psalm of Life
there are three messages told about life. Mr. Longfellow demonstrates the importance of living in the
now. Time is not something that anyone has to waste, it should be used wisely. In Henry s poem A
Psalm of Life he states, Let the dead Past bury its dead/Act act in the living Present! (Lines 22 23)
These lines sum up as whatever happens in life happens. People just need to let the past stay there,
because in reality it is not a real thing. There is no way to go back to the past and touch it. Instead of
holding on to the past and not letting go, people should just act in living the present. There is no need
for someone to spend their entire life thinking about what they did

Some things are hard for people to understand. Like how anyone could be proud of nasty, yellow
calluses that make your hands feel like leather or how anyone could hate a machine that s supposed to

identity. I believe the hardest thing for people to understand about rowing is why anyone would put
themselves through intense pain to win a race. Sometimes it s even hard for me to remember why I
started rowing in the first place. Then I realize that I don t know what I d do if I didn t row. I don t
know where I would be without my teammates, coaches, and parents who have pushed and supported
me to do better and be better.

Student Involvement In College Sports
Sports are a key factor to college life. Even though everyone may not play them, it plays a major
impact on every individual that attends that college. Sports teams help build school pride, generate
revenue, and give rising athletes opportunities to become professionals. As a result, colleges should
strongly support their sports teams.
First and foremost, sports teams are essential in establishing a sense of school pride. A strong stance of
school pride allows the student body as a whole to become coherent. To put simply, it creates a way
for students to become better involved with their college. Not only does it generate involvement
within the college, but also with the community because of family or friends that may also attend the
events.

Copper Essay

Copper is one of the earliest elements known to man. Because of its distinct red color, Copper is very
easily identified. In the ancient times, copper could be found lying in the ground in its unattached state
without interaction to other substances. Copper and its compounds have many uses in today s society.
Copper has many chemical properties that make it unique. The Atomic number of copper is 29. An
Atomic number is a measure of the amount of protons in the nucleus of an atom. Protons are sub

Copper does not rust and when in water, it turns reddish orange. After prolonged exposure, Copper
develops a coat of green film called patina. This film protects it against further exposure. Also, rolled
Copper has a tensile strength from 50,000 to 70,000 pounds per square inch. Tensile strength is the
maximum strength a material can stand before breaking.
Early uses of the element include jewelry, weapons, and tools. The element was first used around 9000
b.c.e. and was found in northern Iraq. Copper was first used by Native Americans around 2500 b.c.e.
One of the first skills that the ancient coppersmith must have learned how to do was shape the metal,
possibly by heating. This element was first used to its full potential when Coppersmiths began to use
tin with copper to make an alloy called bronze. An alloy is a mixture of two or more metals with
properties differs from those of the individual metal. The alloy was first discovered as early as 4000
b.c.e. Bronze was used similar to copper due to the many variety of tools, weapons, and jewelry that
are created from the alloy. It differs from copper in the way that with tin added, the alloy is a better
conductor and easier to shape than the metal alone. Copper was used as the primary metal of the world
to around 3000 b.c.e when society discovered iron. Many copper compounds are used in today s
agricultural, medical, and pest control jobs. Copper Acetate (Cu20 (C2H3O2) 2) is a

Abstract In this study a new noise source is proposed as a one of renewable energy sources in energy
harvesting. Disk Jokey (DJ) is a common device in celebrations and other events. Converting the
produced noise from DJ to electric energy by using a suitable piezoelectric transducer is the main aim
of this study. Piezoelectric sensors used to convert the sound waves to electric charges. Piezoelectric
sensor of the model 7BB 41 2 was used. The piezoelectric sensors were connected in series, parallel,
and series with parallel combination connections. The disk jockey was used as an acoustic noise
source. The sound intensity levels of the output sound were 81, 84, 87 dB. The output of the three
connection modes were measured at 0, 1,2,3,4, and 5cm distance. The results showed that the parallel
connection gave the highest power at the various distances. The maximum generated power was
4.96mwatts without using an external power supply for the signal condition device. The power
decreases by increasing the distance from the source of the noise.

Realism And Pursuit Of National Interests
Realism is an approach to international politics that is based on the importance of power politics and
the pursuit of national interests (Heywood, 2000). According to this school of thought, the
international realm is a moral free ambience in which the state is seen as a rational and uniform player
which finds itself in constant conflict with the other states of the system due to the lack of a
comprehensive world government, i.e. an international anarchy (Oldemeinen, 2010). Realism is
directly contrasting to romanticism or idealism, as it offers a cold and calculating picture of how the
world functions, which is often seen as pessimistic. From an international relations perspective,
realism portrays global politics in a homogeneous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also wrote that the standard of justice depends on the equality of power to compel and that in fact
the strong do what they have the power to do and the weak accept what they have to accept. The
Melians believed that they would have the gods by their side because their position is morally just,
whereas the Athenians opposed with the view that it is the natural order of life for the strong to
dominate the weak. For Thucydides, international relations allow the rich and powerful to do as they
please and force the weak to suffer as they must (Hellenic Resources Network). One of the first
classical realists in this newly established province was Morgenthau, who would have the largest
impact on the field. In his book Politics Among Nations, 1948, Morgenthau produced a report of
political realism that would dominate the study of international relations for decades to come.
According to Morgenthau, realism is concerned with how the world actually is, rather than how it
ought to be; it is an empirical rather than a normative paradigm. In time, the intellectual hegemony of
Morgenthau s classical realism was succeeded by the emergence of neorealism by Kenneth Waltz. In
his book Theory of International Politics, 1979, Waltz sought to develop systematic and scientific
realism, which divided the theory into classical realism and neorealism (Pashakhanlou, 2009). Hans

What Is The Character Of George Eliot sThe Mill On The Floss
Throughout The Mill on the Floss, George Eliot embodies the struggle between following one s
temperament and containing one s natural tendencies in the character of Maggie Tulliver. As the novel
follows her coming of age, Maggie grows from being an impulsive, dreamy child to a young woman
who struggles with subduing her passions. In containing her personality, Maggie struggles internally;
and this containment further manifests in her hair, one of her most noteworthy features. Unruly in her
childhood, her hair becomes continually contained as Maggie subdues more of her natural personality.
Yet, Maggie s unruly hair, along with her rash persona, returns in the final chapter of the novel.
Ultimately, following this struggle of subduing natural temperament, manifested in the presentation of
Maggie s hair, suggests that quelling one s natural personality is as dangerous as never controlling one
s temperament. In chronicling Maggie s childhood, Eliot highlights the rash and dreamy qualities that
dominate Maggie s personality. Rather than be the neatest little rosebud like her cousin Lucy, Maggie
is more unruly and this leads her maternal aunts to view her with a critical eye, especially in regards to
her unkempt hair (Eliot 58). It is this critique of her hair that spurs Maggie to demonstrate her
impulsive streak as she decides to cut her hair. Once Maggie realizes the haphazardness of her
handiwork, the narrator states, Maggie rushed to her deeds with passionate impulse, and

Personalizaton through Searches on Google and Facebook is...
Worldwide there is an underlying issue within search engines and social media. This issue is becoming
evident as the number of people retrieving their news through Google and Facebook increases.
Personalisation through searches is evolving to only show the consumer what they want to see not
what they need to see. Online Organiser and Author of The Filter Bubble , Eli Pariser argues in his
TED Talk about the unreliability of not being exposed to information that could broaden our
worldwide view and possibly resolve pivotal democratic issues. This cycle of trying to consistently
please the users is becoming evident within search organisations and has evolved with technology as
algorithmic filters were introduced having an unbalanced and unethical filter. This invisible filter is
now generating a personal unique universe of information (Pariser, 2011), for every individual user,
enforcing the inability to have a functioning democracy because of the public not receiving accurate
and most importantly balanced information. The Filter Bubble s motive is to create a personalised
environment online through the search engine, by getting to know the source of sites it thinks it s
consumer is interested in. The filter then only provides their subject with specific relevant
information. The continuous flow of information being shown on google and Facebook revolves
around the commonly visited sites rather than things that benefit the users worldwide view and get

Recovering From A Serious Knee Injury
Recovering from a serious knee injury and returning to pre injury levels can be a difficult task to
overcome, but it has been proven possible to do this. Improper injury protocols and the injuries
themselves are two of the largest factors in professional athletes not having elongated and successful
careers. ACL, MCL, PCL, LCL, and Patellar Tendonitis are the most common knee injuries in which
athletes sustain. Sustaining a knee injury at the highest and most competitive levels of basketball can
make the injury and recovery process much more difficult and stressful, however. Depending on the
injury, it can take a very extended amount of time for the knee to return back to its normal functioning,
especially since damaging one part of the knee does not come without other injuries. A permanent and
career ending injury may be the result if the proper percussions are not taken throughout the recovery
process.
Anterior cruciate ligament:
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the four main ligaments in the knee joint that connect it

the knee and plays a role in keeping the knee stable during movement. Partial tears of the ACL can
occur, but are rare. Most ACL tears are either near completes or complete tears. After experiencing an

used as a verbal substantive means to cause to flee, to drive away (pg 373 sadler) This all points to the
fact that Stephen Crane meant to make him seem at points heroic when he didn t deserve it until later

Symbolism In Frankenstein
The lessons the monster learns from the De Lacey family play an important role in the monsters
coming of age in Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein. The De Lacey family is a poor family that the
creature has been watching from the outside for some time now. Eventually, he wants to make an
appearance to the family and show himself to get help. The perfect time is to knock at the door when
nobody is home, except for the old man. All the monster wants is somebody who will accept him and
care for him. As shown in Frankenstein, there is a strong symbolism in which the old man is blind and
can t see the monster. Yet, he accepts him for who he is, while the rest of the De Lacey family harm
him and beat him. Symbolism is also shown with the De Lacey family and their cottage. It has a
strong representation with the Garden of Eden as the cottage acts as the garden. The novel
Frankenstein has many different symbolic elements to it while being connected to the De Lacey s,
including the symbolism of the blind man, the way the monster reacts as the humans react to his looks,
and the comparison to the Garden of Eden. As shown throughout several chapters of Frankenstein, the
old man gives the monster affection and shows that he ll care for him. He was never able to judge the
monster by the way he looked, but only on the way he acted. As the old man said, I am blind and
cannot judge of your countenance, but there is something in your words which persuades me that you
are sincere. I am poor

Accounting Luncheon
2. Clarify the misconstrued actions involved in the Accounting Luncheon and co worker rapport as
stated by Ms. Pancake.
In early December, the accounting team were scheduled to have a luncheon at Ibby s. Two days prior
to the event, a calendar invite had been sent to its attendants. Due to my shy nature, I had not accepted
the invitation, but unbeknownst to me, the attendance was required because, as the time approached,
Mr. Rackers asked me to prepare to leave with them. In candor, I was not comfortable with nor
interested in having lunch in such a setting, and worse, my co worker, Mr. Whittaker was battling a
severe cold that I was trying not to contract during this event.
Unfortunately, I do acknowledge the statement of my lagging behind from the rest of the team.
However, it was due to cramping from my previous ab workout at the gym, and it was painful to move
at a faster pace. I didn t want to burden anyone with my issues, and thus, did not disclose it. Mr.
Rackers had patiently awaited my arrival to the building while everyone else had gone ahead. We then
proceeded to meet the others who were still waiting to be seated.
After waiting to be seated, the manager from Etta s arrived, and shortly thereafter, we were then

The binding of ATP allows myosin to detach from actin. While detached, ATP hydrolysis occurs
recharging the myosin head, (Or resetting the myosin head) If the actin binding sites are still available,
myosin can bind actin again.
The collective bending of numerous myosin heads (all in the same direction), combine to move the
actin filament relative to the myosin filament. This results in muscle contraction in the upper arm.
In the presence of the biochemical adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the myosin and actin fibres would
slide past each other, effectively shortening the muscle. (Huxley).
Summary
Scientists have come a long way in the research relating to muscle contraction. In the past several
decades information has been added along the way and will certainly continue into the future. It is
fascinating to learn how the body moves. It relates to every one of us in every part of our day. As a
student I sit in amazement at the processes that are required in every small movement we can so easily
take for granted.

Medical Diagnostic Devices
Healthcare, and all that it provides, is considered one of the most precious resources in the United
States today. Everyone has been there. After days of feeling crummy you break down and go the
doctor. After all, there is so much you need to do. From your child s soccer game your little one has
been talking about for days, your cousin s wedding with the perfect dress hanging in the closet and of
course, you cannot afford to miss work. So there you are, in the doctor s office with the all important
question. What is wrong with me? Thankfully, with modern day science, there is technology available
to peer inside and discover what stands between you, the soccer field sideline, and embarrassing your
family by dancing the Macarena. With each passing year, the sophistication of medical diagnostic
devices increases with disruption to the traditional and centralized diagnostic delivery model. A
review of five medical diagnostic devices available today, or coming soon to a healthcare facility near
you, will be reviewed along with how it will disrupt the current model.
Capsule Endoscopy According to Christensen, Grossman, and Hwang (2009), medical device and
diagnostic equipment (MDDE) is progressively decentralized with each pass year in a predictable and
consistent fashion. This pattern of change may be seen in every discipline of medicine including the
arena of endoscopy, which involves a visual examination of the gastrointestinal tract. The capsule

Essay about Developing and Learning
Introduction.
In this assignment the writer will compare and contrast the theories of Piaget and Vygotsky. To begin,
the writer will discuss Piaget s theory of cognitive development, followed by Vygotsky s theory of
cognitive development. The writer will then discuss any implications of Piaget s and Vygotsky s
models for teaching and learning in the school years. In order to do this she will compare the two
theories and look at any relevant evidence and research. After comparing both theories of cognitive
development, the writer will do a brief summary of the two theories. Concluding her findings and how
the two theories contrast each other.

Children begin to pretend play, which is when a child acts out routines, such as eating or cleaning.
Children begin to think, however thinking at this stage is still different to the way that adults think.
Their thinking is not very systematic or logical (Wood, 2008 P.48). Piaget stressed that during the
preoperational stage, children?s abilities are limited. One limitation is the inability to take the
perspective of another individual, this is known as ?egocentrism? (Smith, Cowie, Blades 2011 P.390).
A child may well presume that everyone has the same knowledge as they do without taking into
consideration another person?s point of view.
Throughout the concrete operational stage, which occurs between seven and twelve years of age,
children begin to think logically. (Wood, 2008 P.47). Children at this stage are able to think logically
about the world and gain the ability to manipulate their mental representations to think and solve
problems. Children in this stage have an understanding of conservation. For example, if sand was
poured from a tall thin container into a short wide container, they would understand that the quantity is
the same as before.
The last stage is the formal operational stage, which occurs during early adolescence. This is when
cognitive development reaches its peak. According to Smith (2003), Piaget believed that individuals at
this stage gain the ability to ?reason hypothetically? (Smith, Cowie, Blades, 2011 P.408).

The Signalman by Charles Dickens and Harry by Rosemary Timperley
After reading The Signalman by Charles Dickens and Harry by Rosemary Timperley, I have come to
the conclusion that I prefer Harry . Both stories, however, are brilliantly written ghost stories with well
created atmospheres and plots that create tension and suspense.
The Signalman , by Charles Dickens, is a pre 20th century story which is set in the 1800 s. It takes
place by a train line and in a signal box which is occupied by the signalman. In the story the signalman
befriends a man and later confides in him that he has seen an appearance at the entrance to the train
tunnel. He tells the man, who is the narrator of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One would have thought, considering the nature of the ground,
that he could not have doubted from what quarter the voice
came from but, instead of looking up to where I stood on top of
the steep cutting nearly over his head, he turned himself about
and looked down the line.
The speech at the beginning of the story brings the reader straight into the action but the reader also
wants to know who is talking to whom. We, the readers, also wonder why the signalman is acting in
the way he is. Dickens has cleverly secured our attention: we are intrigued immediately and so feel
compelled to read on.
The story of Harry resembles The Signalman in that it too begins by posing a puzzle.
Such ordinary things make me afraid. Sunshine. Sharp
shadows on grass. White roses. Children with red hair.
And the name Harry. Such an ordinary name.
This exposition too commands our attention as the reader inevitably wonders why this person is afraid
of such ordinary things. We later find out that all of the things that this person is afraid of have a great
significance to the rest of the story. However, this beginning is more puzzling because sunshine and
white roses have positive connotations and are usually associated with pleasure. The I before the name
Harry is clever as it creates

Thomas Hobbes And John Locke On Liberty
In this essay, the contrasting ideas of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke on liberty will be discussed and
critically analyzed.
Freedom is the idea of being able to do what one wants to, however, in a society, laws are created to
make us all equal. Laws apply to every one of us in a civilized democratic society, which is the
common voice that keeps us living together without violating each other s rights. Author s general
view.7
Thomas Hobbes primarily expresses the idea of liberty using sovereignty as a model. According to
him, sovereignty was established by agreement initially, but he goes on to say that sovereignty
established by force incorporates the same rights and requirements of the social contract. The
difference lies in the way the sovereign is retained, installed and thought of. A sovereign coming into
power by universal consent is supported by the masses, as people fear each other. In contrast to this, a
sovereign that comes into power by force gains support as the people fear the sovereign himself. Both
of these sovereigns are mutually consented to by social contract, which is driven by fear in either case.
In the state of nature, liberty was non existent as actions were influenced by fear of death and fear of
the power held by others. While fear and power are present in The Leviathan, the person has acquired
absolute liberty as he handed over fear and power to the sovereign to use as tools consentingly making
him responsible for his own fate should the sovereign

MY COUNTRY: ANALYSIS Dorothea Mackellar s My Country is a poem expressing Mackellar s
deep passion and love for her country, Australia. The whole poem s intention seems to evoke the sense
of praising for the country and express Mackellar s deep relationship and passion with her land.
Mackellar attains this response from the audience by using numerous language techniques such as;
Juxtaposition, personification, sound patterns including alliteration and assonance, imagery, and
paradox. The use of first person throughout the whole poem suggests that the theme of this poem has

Imagery is used consistently right through the poem to evoke sensory experiences and to endorse the
theme. For instance: A stark white ring barked forest the sapphire misted mountains the hot gold lush
of noon and many more. All of these appeal to the readers senses and places brilliant visual image(s)
in our minds by illuminating the various features of the country, from the perspective of the poems
persona. This is attained using; adjectives, the sapphire misted mountains¬¬¬ , which gives us a
picture of mountains with a bluish haze embracing it, this image would thus give an impression of a
composed environment and evoke a sense of tranquillity. Additionally by using sapphire to illustrate
the mist surrounding the mountains we get a sense of Australia s uniqueness as sapphire is a rare gem.
Imagery is also displayed through a metaphor used to appeal to the sense of hearing. For example: the
drumming of an army, the steady soaking rain . Here Mackellar depicts the rain as an army and allows
us not only to visualize but get a sense of the sound of the rain, which is presented through the
adjective drumming . This line also presents to us the intensity of the rain again through the adjectives
drumming, steady and soaking . We can presume from the numerous emphasized lines indicating
Australia s uniqueness, that the distinctiveness of Australia is the main reason for the persona s
perplexing attachment and love for her country.

Analysis Of Blue Poles
Russian painter and pioneer of abstract modern art, Kandinsky s art and ideas impacted and inspired
many generations of artists, from his students at Bauhaus, to the Abstract Expressionists post World
War 2. Kandinsky contested the boundaries of conventional art making practice through his rare
artistic style that departs from the strict conventions of realism and naturalism formed by the
Academie, and seeks to convey inner spiritual experience by challenging intentions and emotive
capacities. He sought to convey a universal, visual and spiritual language of abstract forms and
colours, along with interpreting his synesthetic experience of music, to create artworks that

life to the audience, as the work consists of glass shards and footprints embedded into the canvas.
Pollock s boundary breaking manipulation of surface ultimately encourages artists to imitate his new
and non traditional methodologies within art making.
Modernist critic, Clement Greenberg coined the term of Abstract Expressionism, and was largely
responsible for the growing reputation of Pollock within the art world. Greenberg assisted in
determining the reaction to Blue Poles by the audience. In The Nation, 20/1/1945, Greenberg supports

access to Holofernes s tent and he later passes out from being intoxicated giving Judith the advantage

The Cultural Capital Of India
ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography is the symbolization, science and practice of making tough pictures by recording light or
other electromagnetic radiation, either artificially by method for a light sensitive material, for
example, photographic film, or electronically by method for a picture sensor. Ordinarily, a lens is
utilized to center the light reflected or emitted from items into a true picture on the light touchy
surface inside a Polaroid amid a timed introduction. The result in an electronic picture sensor is an
electrical charge at every pixel, which is electronically handled and put away in an advanced picture
document for ensuing show or handling.
The result in a photographic emulsion is an imperceptible inert picture, which is later artificially
created into an unmistakable picture, either negative or positive relying upon the reason for the
photographic material and the system for transforming. A negative picture on film is customarily used
to photographically make a positive picture on a paper base, known as a print, either by utilizing an
enlarger or by contact printing.

As planning for the new Barrett Complex had just begun, they went to the Dean and presented their
idea for a sustainable residence hall at Barrett. The Dean was very receptive to the idea and formed the
Sustainable Living Community to be part of the planning for the new complex (History of BSC 2013).
While Construction kept getting delayed, students in the interim formed the Sustainability House at
Barrett as a club to establish a series of short term and long term goals until they could have their own
residential community on campus. Together, the students developed the final mission statement for the
Sustainability House at Barrett:
Understanding sustainability as a holistic perspective from which to view the world allows us to
recognize the interconnectedness of all things. This perspective leads to a critical examination of our
role in society and the complex and evolving relationship between environmental, economic, and
social issues. We realize that our success and happiness depends not only on ourselves, but also on our
community and surroundings. As a student initiated and consensus based group, the Sustainability
House at Barrett seeks to act as a support community for integrating sustainability into the lives of its

Types Of Reproduction And Asexual Reproduction
Introduction:
We explored the reproductive system. It is important because without it all living things would
become extinct.
The two different types of reproduction are sexual and asexual reproduction. Types of asexual
reproduction include binary fission, budding, and fragmentation. Budding is when another organism
grows out of the parent cell, and separates once it s fully developed. Fragmentation is when an
organism splits into more pieces which each form into their own organism. Binary fission is when the
parent cell copies its genetic material and then splits into two. The advantages of asexual reproduction
are that it produces a lot of offspring, takes little energy, and is speedy. The disadvantage is that the
offspring are clones. Types of sexual reproduction include external and internal fertilization. External
fertilization means that the eggs are fertilized outside of the two parent organisms, while internal
fertilization happens inside of the two parent organisms. The advantages of sexual reproduction is that
the offspring vary genetically. The disadvantages are that there are fewer offspring, it takes longer, it
requires more energy, and a partner must be found.
Gametogenesis is the production of gametes. There are two kinds of gametogenesis, oogenesis and
spermatogenesis. Oogenesis happens in the ovaries, and makes eggs. It only happens during fetal
development, and produces two polar bodies and one ovum. Spermatogenesis happens in the testes,
and occurs

  • 4. Manifest Destiny and Race Laurence Mandin Professor Charles Turner M.A. J.D. History 18 25 March 2011 Midterm Question #1 part 2: What impact did the English view of race have on American society? (Worth 50 points) note: I felt it was more logical for my purposes to place part 2 first. The English view of race developed directly from their perceptions of themselves, from the ideas of their own racial origins, their own ethnocentricity. This perception became a concept that had its roots in 16th and 17th Century England. It involved their ancestry to the peoples of England prior to the Norman Conquest of 1066, and further back to the Nordic and Germanic peoples of ancient, continental Europe. It didn t start here; their Caucasian ancestry was believed to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This vanguard of chosen people would see their noble sentiments of self government tainted by a legacy of racial superiority that would contribute to the near extinction of Native Americans, the brutal subjugation of African peoples, and a history of racial bigotry and strife. These entrenched racial attitudes would reach a pinnacle in the first half of 19th Century America (Horsman intro), culminating in the Civil War of 1861: one of the bloodiest wars in world history it left 600,000 Americans dead, white and black. That catastrophic conflict ended 150 years ago and we still have not seen the end of the terrible manifestation of Anglo American racism. Midterm Question #1 part 1: Race and ethnicity have played major roles in American social history. How do these constructs relate to an explanation of what it means to be an American? The description of Africa as the dark mysterious continent is a description that can also be applied to her continental sisters sharing similar latitudes in the Western Hemisphere, the areas now known as Latin America. These continents, as well as large parts of vast Asia, seem to be areas of the earth where many dark complected peoples reside. Ironically these areas of mystery and darkness receive the most light from our sun, causing the evolution of a protective coloring in the outer covering of the human body. Without ... It was also realized that they react to different things such as Calcium reacting to water and the other four metals not reacting to water. To carry out the experiment, there was a set of steps that were followed to get results. All five metals were placed in water in separate test tubes to start with. Calcium was the only one that reacted with water while the rest of the metals didn t. The purpose of this lab was to test the reactivity of certain metals, then create an activity series based on observations. Realism And Pursuit Of National Interests Realism is an approach to international politics that is based on the importance of power politics and the pursuit of national interests (Heywood, 2000). According to this school of thought, the international realm is a moral free ambience in which the state is seen as a rational and uniform player which finds itself in constant conflict with the other states of the system due to the lack of a comprehensive world government, i.e. an international anarchy (Oldemeinen, 2010). Realism is directly contrasting to romanticism or idealism, as it offers a cold and calculating picture of how the world functions, which is often seen as pessimistic. For Thucydides, international relations allow the rich and powerful to do as they please and force the weak to suffer as they must (Hellenic Resources Network). One of the first classical realists in this newly established province was Morgenthau, who would have the largest impact on the field. In his book Politics Among Nations, 1948, Morgenthau produced a report of political realism that would dominate the study of international relations for decades to come. According to Morgenthau, realism is concerned with how the world actually is, rather than how it ought to be; it is an empirical rather than a normative paradigm. In time, the intellectual hegemony of Morgenthau s classical realism was succeeded by the emergence of neorealism by Kenneth Waltz. What Is The Character Of George Eliot sThe Mill On The Floss Throughout The Mill on the Floss, George Eliot embodies the struggle between following one s temperament and containing one s natural tendencies in the character of Maggie Tulliver. As the novel follows her coming of age, Maggie grows from being an impulsive, dreamy child to a young woman who struggles with subduing her passions. In containing her personality, Maggie struggles internally; and this containment further manifests in her hair, one of her most noteworthy features. Unruly in her childhood, her hair becomes continually contained as Maggie subdues more of her natural personality. Yet, Maggie s unruly hair, along with her rash persona, returns in the final chapter of the novel. Ultimately, following this struggle of subduing natural temperament, manifested in the presentation of Maggie s hair, suggests that quelling one s natural personality is as dangerous as never controlling one s temperament. In chronicling Maggie s childhood, Eliot highlights the rash and dreamy qualities that dominate Maggie s personality. Rather than be the neatest little rosebud like her cousin Lucy, Maggie is more unruly and this leads her maternal aunts to view her with a critical eye, especially in regards to her unkempt hair (Eliot 58). It is this critique of her hair that spurs Maggie to demonstrate her impulsive streak as she decides to cut her hair. This issue is becoming evident as the number of people retrieving their news through Google and Facebook increases. Personalisation through searches is evolving to only show the consumer what they want to see not what they need to see. Online Organiser and Author of The Filter Bubble , Eli Pariser argues in his TED Talk about the unreliability of not being exposed to information that could broaden our worldwide view and possibly resolve pivotal democratic issues. This cycle of trying to consistently please the users is becoming evident within search organisations and has evolved with technology as algorithmic filters were introduced having an unbalanced and unethical filter. This invisible filter is now generating a personal unique universe of information (Pariser, 2011), for every individual user, enforcing the inability to have a functioning democracy because of the public not receiving accurate and most importantly balanced information. The Filter Bubble s motive is to create a personalised environment online through the search engine, by getting to know the source of sites it thinks it s consumer is interested in. Improper injury protocols and the injuries themselves are two of the largest factors in professional athletes not having elongated and successful careers. ACL, MCL, PCL, LCL, and Patellar Tendonitis are the most common knee injuries in which athletes sustain. Sustaining a knee injury at the highest and most competitive levels of basketball can make the injury and recovery process much more difficult and stressful, however. Depending on the injury, it can take a very extended amount of time for the knee to return back to its normal functioning, especially since damaging one part of the knee does not come without other injuries. A permanent and career ending injury may be the result if the proper percussions are not taken throughout the recovery process. Analysis Of Stephen Crane s The Red Badge Of Courage Joshua Lachowicz English 4A Pd.2 Ms.Mastrokyriakos 20, November, 2014 Literary Analysis Wc: 1680 A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. (Christopher Reeve) In The Red Badge Of Courage, the author Stephen Crane, analyzes the terms hero and being heroic through the main character s actions during WWI. Stephen Crane was intrigued with the art of war and battles and to write the novel as accurately as possible spoke to men from WWI. He wrote the novel with such detail and used so many vivid descriptions most literary critics thought he was a veteran when he had never set foot of the battle field. The main character of The Red Badge of Courage Henry Fleming was considered a hero when in reality only really deserves the title at the end of the novel when he was finally heroic Henry s name has subjective qualities with its meaning The first part of his last name Fleme when used as a transitive verb means to flee, run away Fleming means one who puts to flight Fleme also means when used as a verbal substantive means to cause to flee, to drive away (pg 373 sadler) This all points to the fact that Stephen Crane meant to make him seem at points heroic when he didn t deserve it until later on doing something heroic and worthy of being called a hero. • 23. Symbolism In Frankenstein The lessons the monster learns from the De Lacey family play an important role in the monsters coming of age in Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein. The De Lacey family is a poor family that the creature has been watching from the outside for some time now. Eventually, he wants to make an appearance to the family and show himself to get help. The perfect time is to knock at the door when nobody is home, except for the old man. All the monster wants is somebody who will accept him and care for him. As shown in Frankenstein, there is a strong symbolism in which the old man is blind and can t see the monster. Yet, he accepts him for who he is, while the rest of the De Lacey family harm him and beat him. Symbolism is also shown with the De Lacey family and their cottage. It has a strong representation with the Garden of Eden as the cottage acts as the garden. The novel Frankenstein has many different symbolic elements to it while being connected to the De Lacey s, including the symbolism of the blind man, the way the monster reacts as the humans react to his looks, and the comparison to the Garden of Eden. As shown throughout several chapters of Frankenstein, the old man gives the monster affection and shows that he ll care for him. He was never able to judge the monster by the way he looked, but only on the way he acted. Children begin to pretend play, which is when a child acts out routines, such as eating or cleaning. Children begin to think, however thinking at this stage is still different to the way that adults think. Their thinking is not very systematic or logical (Wood, 2008 P.48). Piaget stressed that during the preoperational stage, children?s abilities are limited. One limitation is the inability to take the perspective of another individual, this is known as ?egocentrism? (Smith, Cowie, Blades 2011 P.390). A child may well presume that everyone has the same knowledge as they do without taking into consideration another person?s point of view. Throughout the concrete operational stage, which occurs between seven and twelve years of age, children begin to think logically. (Wood, 2008 P.47). Children at this stage are able to think logically about the world and gain the ability to manipulate their mental representations to think and solve problems. Children in this stage have an understanding of conservation. For example, if sand was poured from a tall thin container into a short wide container, they would understand that the quantity is the same as before. The last stage is the formal operational stage, which occurs during early adolescence. This is when cognitive development reaches its peak. According to Smith (2003), Piaget believed that individuals at this stage gain the ability to ?reason hypothetically? (Smith, Cowie, Blades, 2011 P.408). Each one of these ... The Signalman , by Charles Dickens, is a pre 20th century story which is set in the 1800 s. It takes place by a train line and in a signal box which is occupied by the signalman. We, the readers, also wonder why the signalman is acting in the way he is. Dickens has cleverly secured our attention: we are intrigued immediately and so feel compelled to read on. The story of Harry resembles The Signalman in that it too begins by posing a puzzle. Such ordinary things make me afraid. Sunshine. Sharp shadows on grass. White roses. Children with red hair. And the name Harry. Such an ordinary name. This exposition too commands our attention as the reader inevitably wonders why this person is afraid of such ordinary things. We later find out that all of the things that this person is afraid of have a great significance to the rest of the story. However, this beginning is more puzzling because sunshine and white roses have positive connotations and are usually associated with pleasure. The I before the name Harry is clever as it creates

  • 33. Thomas Hobbes And John Locke On Liberty In this essay, the contrasting ideas of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke on liberty will be discussed and critically analyzed. Freedom is the idea of being able to do what one wants to, however, in a society, laws are created to make us all equal. Laws apply to every one of us in a civilized democratic society, which is the common voice that keeps us living together without violating each other s rights. Author s general view.7 Thomas Hobbes primarily expresses the idea of liberty using sovereignty as a model. According to him, sovereignty was established by agreement initially, but he goes on to say that sovereignty established by force incorporates the same rights and requirements of the social contract. The difference lies in the way the sovereign is retained, installed and thought of. A sovereign coming into power by universal consent is supported by the masses, as people fear each other. In contrast to this, a sovereign that comes into power by force gains support as the people fear the sovereign himself. Both of these sovereigns are mutually consented to by social contract, which is driven by fear in either case. In the state of nature, liberty was non existent as actions were influenced by fear of death and fear of the power held by others. While fear and power are present in The Leviathan, the person has acquired absolute liberty as he handed over fear and power to the sovereign to use as tools consentingly making him responsible for his own fate should the sovereign ... • 46. The Cultural Capital Of India ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY Photography is the symbolization, science and practice of making tough pictures by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either artificially by method for a light sensitive material, for example, photographic film, or electronically by method for a picture sensor. Ordinarily, a lens is utilized to center the light reflected or emitted from items into a true picture on the light touchy surface inside a Polaroid amid a timed introduction. The result in an electronic picture sensor is an electrical charge at every pixel, which is electronically handled and put away in an advanced picture document for ensuing show or handling. The result in a photographic emulsion is an imperceptible inert picture, which is later artificially created into an unmistakable picture, either negative or positive relying upon the reason for the photographic material and the system for transforming. A negative picture on film is customarily used to photographically make a positive picture on a paper base, known as a print, either by utilizing an enlarger or by contact printing. As planning for the new Barrett Complex had just begun, they went to the Dean and presented their idea for a sustainable residence hall at Barrett. The Dean was very receptive to the idea and formed the Sustainable Living Community to be part of the planning for the new complex (History of BSC 2013). While Construction kept getting delayed, students in the interim formed the Sustainability House at Barrett as a club to establish a series of short term and long term goals until they could have their own residential community on campus. Together, the students developed the final mission statement for the Sustainability House at Barrett: Understanding sustainability as a holistic perspective from which to view the world allows us to recognize the interconnectedness of all things. This perspective leads to a critical examination of our role in society and the complex and evolving relationship between environmental, economic, and social issues. We realize that our success and happiness depends not only on ourselves, but also on our community and surroundings. • 48. Types Of Reproduction And Asexual Reproduction Introduction: We explored the reproductive system. It is important because without it all living things would become extinct. The two different types of reproduction are sexual and asexual reproduction. Types of asexual reproduction include binary fission, budding, and fragmentation. Budding is when another organism grows out of the parent cell, and separates once it s fully developed. Fragmentation is when an organism splits into more pieces which each form into their own organism. Binary fission is when the parent cell copies its genetic material and then splits into two. The advantages of asexual reproduction are that it produces a lot of offspring, takes little energy, and is speedy. The disadvantage is that the offspring are clones. Types of sexual reproduction include external and internal fertilization. External fertilization means that the eggs are fertilized outside of the two parent organisms, while internal fertilization happens inside of the two parent organisms. The advantages of sexual reproduction is that the offspring vary genetically. The disadvantages are that there are fewer offspring, it takes longer, it requires more energy, and a partner must be found. Gametogenesis is the production of gametes. There are two kinds of gametogenesis, oogenesis and spermatogenesis. Oogenesis happens in the ovaries, and makes eggs. It only happens during fetal development, and produces two polar bodies and one ovum. Spermatogenesis happens in the testes, and occurs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
