Nuclear Crisis at Three Mile Island Essay
Nuclear Crisis at Three Mile Island
Abstract
In March of 1979, just ten miles south of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the Nuclear Power Plant at Three
Mile Island Unit 2 came close to nuclear melt down. Despite standards set by the Nuclear Regulatory
Commission (NRC), the plant ran for several years prior to the accident under poor conditions.
Communication certainly played a role in this near tragedy, as two engineers had foreseen the
consequences, but their advice went unheeded. Although most of the economic and social impacts of
this incident were minimal, this unpleasant event ended the nuclear power industry in America.
Introduction
The plant at Three Mile Island was a headache from the start. The $700,000,000 project ... Show more

In the control room, approximately fifty alarms were constantly going off. Jim Creswell was certain
that the operators down at TMI 2 were taking the wrong measures when accidents occurred. But
Creswell was considered a nuisance and a troublemaker, whenever he brought these things to his boss
attention. Everything costs money to fix, and the plant was new, they just need time to work out the
kinks. Creswell was not the only one to notice the problem. At the Tennessee Valley Authority, whistle
blower and engineer, Carl Michelson had found a major flaw in the system in Unit Two: The pipe
connecting the pressurizer to the rest of the system dips. Like the U shaped sink drain trap at home,
the bend works as a vapor lock. This is great at home, because it keeps the sewer gasses from backing
up. Here, it meant that the water cooling the nuclear waste could turn to steam, and this steam could
be trapped in the main loop with no safe ventilation route. Michelson realized that if the plant had
such an occurrence after a few years running, the results could be disastrous, but he was also aware of
how the NRC worked and how expensive it is to change equipment. Michelson was set on getting
management to notice the problem, despite their opposition.
The design of the control room revealed the overconfidence of plant management. The control room
was designed for normal

Negatives And Negatives Of 3d Printing
Every few years, a technological device emerges that changes the way we live our lives. From the
typewriter to the laptop computer, technology keeps improving. We are able to type documents, erase
as we choose and print as many copies as we like using a printer. Life was made easier for us.
Another device is about to change our lives 3D printing. The traditional way we print today is 2D
printing. We print on paper. The data we print cannot be touched physically. If we print a picture of a
shoe on a paper, we cannot hold that shoe physically in our hands. That is about to change with 3D
printing. This new technology will allow us to print almost anything we choose and we will be able to
feel that object.
Today we use forging, molding and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The virtual design can be made in a specific software such as a 3D modelling program. Once a
blueprint of the object is created, we send the digital file to the printer and it prints the object. This
benefits our company because all we would have to do is to create a 3D file. There would be no more
need for 2D modelling and we would save time on creating the design the customer wants.
There are different processes that allow 3D printing to occur but the most common one used currently
is Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM). A prominent tech blog states that when the digital file is sent
to the printer, the device slices the virtual design into horizontal layers. The material that is used to
make the object is then melted and the printer prints the object layer by layer until the full object is
created. Depending on the printer type, the material used can be rubber, plastics, paper, metals and
more. Our company would be able to make different prototypes of different materials with these
printers. There would be no need to get special tools for the different materials.
The emergence of 3D printing has helped many companies thus far. TechRepublic states that Boeing, a
well known company, uses the device. This airplane company has made over 20000 materials thus far
using 3D printers. Ford has also used the device to make car parts. They recently made their 500000th
part using the 3D printer. Not

Disadvantages Of Reverse Osmosis
ABSTRACT
The demand of fresh and pure water is increasing day by day and due to many problems around
different areas of world the supply of fresh water is not up to the desired level. Reverse Osmosis plant,
therefore, helps to prove reliable and energy efficient process in producing the fresh water with many
large plants presently being used around the world. Desalination by RO requires high pumping
pressure in the range of 45 80 bar which is usually supplied by electrical driven pumps in steady state.
This thesis is explaining the cost analysis of replacing these electrical pumps with a wind turbine
driven pumps and concluding that whether this replacement is economically feasible or not. The paper
will cover the comparison of operating and capital cost for these two plants with the aim to determine
that whether wind powered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It helps to remove inorganic and organic contaminants
It has almost no impact on the environment
RO technology uses very less chemicals Disadvantages:
Along with the advantages this technology also have some disadvantages as well which are as follows:
The membranes are very sensitive to abuse
The pretreatment of feed water is needed
The plant requires high quality equipments and staff
There is a need to carefully discard the Brine as it contains some toxic materials
A reliable source of energy is required
The maintenance costs are relatively high as compare to other methods

Argumentative Essay On Cosplay
Secondly, cosplay improves imagination, creativity, and ability development. The costumes fans wear
are usually self made, though in some cases they are purchased from shops. Nicolle Lamerichs, a
cosplayer says that the community is crucial here to the development of costuming skills. The process
of sewing the costume and guaranteeing its authenticity is therefore very important. (Lamerichs)
According to this, it is clear that while cosplayers make their own costumes, it improve their

Teenagers tend to spend most of their precious time to make their costumes if they can t afford the
money to buy the costumes. Based on a survey done by Robin S. Rosenberg and Andrea M.
Letamendi, The total time spent preparing costumes varied between 1 to 450 hours. The average time
spent preparing a costume was 44.16 hours. Each respondent was asked to answer questions about
their most time intensive costume. According to responses, these types of costumes took an average of
133.58 hours. The most recent time intensive costume took 47.3 hours on average. On another hand,
cosplayers are unable to make the costumes, they spend a large portion of their money to buy
costumes. According to the survey, the majority of respondents spend between $100.00 $399.00 per

Major Robert Gregory s Life After World War I
As Winston Churchill once proclaimed, We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we
shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the
streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, the subject of An Irish Airman foresees his
Death, Major Robert Gregory, is the embodiment of this mentality, since he still becomes an airman in
World War I, even though he acknowledges his imminent death. As the title implicates, Gregory will
eventually die, and did so on January 23, 1918, when he was inadvertently shot down. Then, William
B. Yeats, a close friend of Gregory, decided to honor him by creating various poems, such as An Irish
Airman foresees his Death, in which Yeats attempts to view the war from Gregory s viewpoint. From

This shows that he cautious about this issue, not wanting to provoke any backlash from his work.
Unfortunately, without the tragic incident, Gregory s death, that unfolded during World War I, this
poem would not have likely come to fruition. The theme is evident throughout the poem, starting with
the title, as it includes the word death. The subject sees death as an inevitable part of his life, and most
likely joined the war after [he] balanced all [and] brought all to mind and viewed his life as The years
to come seemed to waste of breath, / [and] waste of breath the years behind when compared with [the
speaker s new] life, [and] death. This leads to an interpretation that he has accepted that death is
imminent and in fact, is welcoming it since he know[s] that [he] shall meet his fate/ Somewhere
among the clouds above. There are other interpretations to this poem, but the readers can discern this:
death is certain and

Why Is The First Amendment Important
The first amendment states your basic liberties. It is one of the most important bills in the bill of
rights. These basic liberties are freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom
of assembly, and freedom to petition the government. This amendment also has a lot of historical
significance and there are a lot of court cases today that involve this amendment. There are also quite
a few current issues involving the first amendment. Freedom of Religion means that the government
can t force you to accept only one set of religious beliefs or the way you worship. You can worship
your own way and have your own religious beliefs as long as they don t violate other people s rights.
Today this is a very big debate when it comes to prayer and schools. Several cases have been brought
to the Supreme Court about this and whether students have the right to pray in class or if the prayer
would interfere with another student s rights. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

students to advocate illegal drug use at a school sponsored event. It also does not permit students to

Creation Myths In Hindu Religion
Our myth is a Hindu creation myth, titled In the Beginning and Forever was the One, the Absolute,
Iswara . In this myth, there is a multitude of mini creation myths, from the one and only Iswara, to
Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. All of these mini myths center in on the central idea that everything has
come from the one (Iswara) and will return to it, including Brahma s sleeping and waking cycles, in
which the world is either materialized or absorbed back into Iswara, completing the cycle every time
Brahma sleeps and wakes.
This specific creation myth is one out of many from the Hindu religion, and is told in many different
ways. Hindu myths frequently stress about cycles, and how everything begins, and has to end
somehow, and our myth was no exception. To dive deeper into the overall meaning of the myth, one
has to learn more about the religion, and also the key themes of Hinduism. Hinduism is the world s

something that teaches us the values of life. In this case, our creation myth gave us a big insight on the
meaning of life as a whole, because through the display of cycles, it tells us that nothing is permanent.
This moral applies to life as a whole. Life is incredibly precious, and is infinitely short compared to
the age of the universe. Pretty much everyone is aware of that, and yet, why are there still people out

Analysis Of Beneath Clouds
The notion of the contemporary indigenous identity and the impact of these notions are both explored
in texts that have been studied. Ivan Sen s 2002 film Beneath Clouds focuses on the stereotypical
behaviours of Indigenous Australians highlighting Lina and Vaughn s journey. This also signifies the
status and place of the Australian identity today. Through the use of visual techniques and stereotypes
the ideas that the Indigenous are uneducated, involved in crime and the stereotypical portrayal of
white people are all explored. Similarly the notion of urban and rural life is represented in Kennith
Slessor s William Street and Country Towns .
In contemporary times the Indigenous are stereotypically represented as being violent and aggressive.
Sen is creating a stereotypical image of young Indigenous boys as criminals and dominative. An
extreme close up of Vaughn behind jail bars show the separation between Vaughn and society. The
stereotype of Indigenous Australians as criminals is shown in a negative light and acts as a false
stereotype. The jail bars act as a physical and metaphorical barrier and the use of non diegetic music
sets a mood of extreme sadness. Domestic violence is also suggested in the car ride. The women with
the child is seen as submissive and this violence acts as usual practise. However, Vaughn does not
appear to this stereotype of all males being dominative. Sen s use of camera angles highlights the
stereotypical nature of indigenous people and

modern TV shows of the same vein, borrowing certain aspects but not making, per say, a carbon copy
of the panel shows in question. Through this we plan to create something that is not so much original
but a fresh take on the formula of the panel show. The majority of shows which influence will be
drawn from will be of a comedic disposition. So in saying that, the set up of the show will be, that two
teams comprised of two people will compete against one another through a number of sections and
based on how they perform a points system will distinguish as to who the winning side is a all times
The host of the show being the one who puts these challenges to them and distinguishes who is the
victor at the end of each section. Like most shows we will begin with an opening VT, comprised of
motion graphics and pre recorded material that will be added in. The motion graphics themselves will
be created with the programme After Effects and for a more efficient work flow, an online template
will be used. The pre recorded material will be of the guests and possibly previous content which has
recorded in the studio. At this point in the show both a colour scheme, a flavour of what the show is
about and the name of the show will be established. Moving on from this, the Host will introduce

The Similarities between the joint commission and DVN are:
Both the DNV and Joint Commission are organizations that conduct inspections and accreditations.
Accreditations have an impact on the way hospitals operate only because a hospital makes critical
decisions of how it treats diseases, assigns clinical staffing and stores its medications.
The DNV and the Joint Commission have the same goals and that is to provide the safest, highest

When it comes to cost they both vary by facility size and complexity but are comparable to one
another in cost. Which could average from $33,000 for three years. The difference between the joint

The Mysterious Death Of Mary Rogers Essay
I ve learned from the book, The Mysterious Death of Mary Rogers by Amy Gilman Srebnick that the
19th century city is way different from today s cities. The laws weren t as strict, women weren t as
conservative, and abortion was legal. The death of Mary Rogers demonstrates the reality of the middle
class young women in the metropolitan areas. Mary Rogers illustrates young women during the 19th
century. Her story characterizes the threats of the city and the threats of the young women during 19th
century New York. Mary Rogers death maintains apprehension in regards to women s changing roles,
law, and sex. This case also focuses on the overdoing of abortion during the 19th century. Mary Roger
s death is a symbol for the latest developing city of this century, the fluctuating role of women, and
political and social reform.
In today s society the good outweighs the bad but in the 19th century, the good would have never
outweighed the bad. Even though the 19th century is a different time period than today s society we
still share similar characteristics. The first similarity is crimes. In today s society, we have people,
doing things out of the usual norm everyday which often ends in the death of someone s loved one,

The time has come when the common old time thug making a place for themselves has ended and now
the devastating effects of the new bully come to life. New bullies don t just stop with words and
maybe a playground fight, now we have severe physical trauma and even death as a result of the
negative responses to this type of treatment. Amazingly enough the amount of physical bullying has
increased as with the increase of school bullying:
The common thought has been bullying is a normal reaction to school. Studies show that bullying is
the result of underlying issues. Traditional bullying was a common thug trying to make a place for
themselves, whereas now it has gone to new heights, it now includes physical trauma and even death.
We find that bullying affects the bully as well as the victim. The victims tend to have more problems
in school with attendance and achievements within the academic world. This is not just about the gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, it involves all students that don t fit societies idea of
normal then the person gets bullied. The amount of attention given to this issue is a direct result of this

problem with getting the bullying policies changed is the conservative communities that school boards

(ClO4)4·12.5H2O}, (Ni8) with mpba = m phenylenedioxamate and dpt = dipropylenetriamine. This
complex possesses a moderately anisotropic (S = 4) ground spin state (D = 0.23 cm 1) and exhibits
slow magnetic relaxation below TB = 3.0 K in the crystalline state. The mesoporous silicas MCM 41,
UVM 7 and UVM 11 were investigated to incorporate Ni8 SMMs. The unimodal silica MCM 41 has
small pores of 2.8 nm diameter while UVM 7 has bimodal pores of 2.58 nm and 34.89 nm. A third

In stark contrast, MCM 41 and UVM 7 show much different magnetic properties after successful
incorporation into the silica pores. Notably, the χMT term for both silicas is higher than expected for
magnetically isolated Ni8 molecules (such as those in UVM 11) which supports the presence of
repeating Ni8 units forming [Ni8]x aggregates. χMT also reaches a maximum at a range of 3 10 K, in
contrast to the Tmax = 3 K of the SMM alone where Tmax generally increases with increasing loading
amount. This behavior can be rationalized due to magnetic anisotropy and/or antiferromagnetic
interactions between aggregates. A proposed mechanism consists of Ni8 SMMs filling the silica pores
and consequent aggregation which is mediated by deprotonated silanol groups present on the pores
(Fig. 4). In turn [Ni8]x aggregates, joined by Ni O Ni bonds interact in a ferromagnetic manner which
allows for the Ni8 monomers to undergo magnetic exchange interactions. This mechanism holds up to
a point, a 100% loading amount results in packing which imposes a steric strain on the filamentous
[Ni8]x and pushes the Ni O Ni angle towards a higher value, prompting antiferromagnetic interactions
leading to a decrease in magnetic susceptibility. AC magnetic measurements were used to verify the
retention of SMMs characteristics within the

Patricia Hill Matrix Of Domination
Matrix of domination Matrix of domination is a sociological paradigm, which explains issues of
oppression that concerns gender, race and class, which is looked as being different but in reality is
intertwined. In addition, other classifications such as religion, age or sexual orientation, are included
in the matrix of domination. The theory originates from the theoretical perspective of multiracial
feminism .Patricia Hill introduced the theory of the matrix of domination in her book called Black
Feminist Thought: Knowledge, consciousness and politics of empowerment. In her book, she talks
about multiracial feminism and the matrix of domination. There are many different ways a person

They shaped my life by making me who I am today. Family has shaped me by family making me
hardworking, ambitious, and encouraging me to strive for the best. My religion has made me very
religious and made me put all my faith in God and has strengthened my morals and values. Education
has taught me to look deeper at certain situation and taught me the importance of education and hard
work. Race, class, gender and sexuality shape the three social institutions. The reason they are shaped
by gender, race, class and sexuality are that they all interconnected with social systems and
institutions. For example, family is a dynamic based on the parents and culture. Gender sexuality,
class and race shape family. The reason it is shaped by gender, sexuality, race, and class is that the
man being the head of the household for most families and the type of household you grew up in. For
example, rather you grew up in a gay or straight household. Your class decides the status of your
family and whether are not you can feed them. Gender, race, class, and sexuality shape religion also
by predominately straight white males being religious leaders. Your religion can determine your
sexuality in many ways for example, most religions preach against homosexuality and if you are
brought up in a strict religious household you have more of a chance of being straight than other
people because you are raised a certain way. Also most religious leaders tend to be from an certain
class depending which church or other religious building you go to .Education is shaped by gender

professors tend to be white. Not only does race play apart in education but

Similar Principles of the Natural and Economic...
Similar Principles of the Natural and Economic Environments By examining Darwin s theories of
evolution, which explain the process by which the phenomenon of evolution occurs, we get a grasp of
a broad picture of the natural world with all its relationships and dynamics. Likewise, Adam Smith
explains the economic world of Laissez Faire capitalism in abstract, holistic terms, creating a general
picture of its components. In studying both systems one, the law of the wild, and the other, a system
imposed by humanity we can see how similar they are in their mechanisms, despite the fact that they
apply to completely different settings. Therefore it is no surprise that Smith s capitalist system brings
human society closer than ever to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference between the creatures of the natural world and humans is in the aims of their
motivations: the formers goal is to prolong life, while the latter wish to increase wealth. Smith s
economy is ruled by supply and demand, or what things people need (or want), and how much.
Therefore, it is self regulating, and needs no control from an outside source. The weak and poorly
suited will fail to profit or even survive, and eventually will dwindle out of the system. The strong and
fit will continue to devise means of profit making in increasingly creative and progressive ways, thus
guaranteeing their survival. As a result, both the consumer society and the economy benefit, for needs
are provided for and money is made, and the weak, incompetent members of society will die off,
leaving humanity stronger overall. Furthermore, Smith s notion of `the invisible hand is precisely
analogous to natural selection itself. Both of these ideas seem to dictate the systems they define, as
though they have some sort of power or consciousness directing their progress; but, in fact, it is the
opposite that is true: these `laws merely describe how their respective systems operate, and they
cannot be altered. While this idea of Capitalism as human evolution within society may seem
beneficial or progressive, putting such theory into practice is far different. The industrial revolution in
England endorsed laissez faire capitalism, and soon the extent of human suffering

The Charge of the Light Brigade and Attack Essay
The Charge of the Light Brigade and Attack The Charge of the light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson
and Attack by Siegfried Sassoon are two very dissimilar poems. Both of them are on the same topic of
war but have many contrasts in how they treat the subject matter, war. The main difference between
these two poems is the audience that they were written for. Tennyson, as poet laureate, was written for
public reading, but Sassoon s work which showed more emotion and feeling, was therefore more of a
private poem. The poems tone and mood are very different. Tennyson s poem is a triumphant,
victorious and celebratory poem. This is because the Victorians did not want to read about defeat, as it

While time ticks blank on their busy wrists. The language in the two poems is different. The poets use
different literary terms. Tennyson begins his poem by using anaphora in the opening lines, Half a
league, half a league, half a league onward. Anaphora is the repetition of certain words or words to
obtain a rhythmic pattern. In this historic war, the men charged at the enemy guns on horseback, so
this repetition in Tennyson s opening lines could be associated with the sound of galloping horses.
Tennyson uses this again when he writes, Cannon to the right of them, Cannon to the left of them,
Cannon in front of them. Tennyson also uses rhetorical questions in his poem, for example, Was there
a man dismay d? and When can their glory fade? These are questions to which no answer is required,
and add dramatic effect to the poem. Then he uses the phrase, The Valley of Death, to describe the
valley in which the charge took place. This phrase is taken from the Bible ( Psalm 23). In other
translations of the Bible ( The Good News Bible), it is translated as, the deepest darkness . Tennyson
uses it with dramatic effect as if the men were ordered to go into the deepest darkness to charge down
the cannons. During the Victorian period of history the Bible would have been important to the
Victorian people and so the poem appealed to their cultural knowledge. Tennyson also uses other

The Treaty of Versailles Resulted in Another Huge War
The treaty of Versailles, written in Paris Peace Conference by four allied nations, contributed to the
culmination of World War I between Germany and those four nations, which were United States,
France, Great Britain and Italy. Even though the purpose of the treaty was to prevent further conflict
and war, it, in fact, failed to treat all nations justifiably, including the losers of the war (Germany),
because it mandated Germany to solely compensate for the loss and damages caused by the war. The
restrictions treated Germany like a colony and eventually led to the decrease of German military
forces, financial bankruptcy caused by excessive reparation and the rise of Nazis which triggered
World War II. First of all, according to the section five of Article 159 213 of the treaty, Germany was
limited to carry or maintain certain number of troops which led to significant decrease in total military
forces. The treaty forced Germany to keep navy, army and air force as small as possible (1).
Additionally, the number of army was diminished to 100,000 troops with no armored vehicles and
they were limited to six battleships, six light cruisers, twelve destroyers, twelve torpedo and no
submarines (1). What is worse is the fact that Germany was not able to defend itself anymore as it had
to get rid of bunkers, defense systems and mines from rivers, seas and harbors (1) and was prohibited
to possess poison gas, armed aircraft, tanks, blockades on ships and armored cars (2).

Forensic Evidence And Criminal Investigation
Every criminal investigation starts off the same way: A crime was committed, someone informs the
police, law enforcement shows up, secures the crime scene and they start the investigation. There are
steps taken in every investigation. Police interview witnesses, check surveillance, interrogate suspects;
however, one of the most important steps is the collection and analysis of evidence. According to the
Encyclopedia of Criminology (2014), forensic evidence refers to the verbal statements and physical
items presented to a neutral fact finder in the court of law that assist him or her in rendering a verdict
(Vandenberg, 2014). In simple terms, it is anything offered to a court to demonstrate if the suspect on
trial is guilt or innocent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third stage is retrieval, which is the information that the witness recalls in his or her statements.
Any problems at any of these stages can have implications for the validity of the eyewitness testimony
(Vandenberg, 2014).
Scholars have revealed that wrongful convictions are more often based on inaccurate eyewitness
identifications that on other types of evidence (Vandenberg, 2014). Researchers also estimated that
between 50% and 90% of wrongfully convicted individuals who were later exonerated by DNA
evidence were initially found guilty and sentenced on the basis of eyewitness testimony (Vandenberg,
2014). If eyewitness testimony can be unreliable, why then keep using it for convictions? Steps can be
taken to increase the accuracy of eyewitness recollections. For example, there is a guide called
Eyewitness Evidence that was developed by psychology researchers, law enforcement personnel,
prosecutors, and defense attorneys. The guide lays out standardized protocols for retrieving eyewitness
accounts (Vandenberg, 2014). These guidelines help ensure the investigator that the testimony they
obtain will be as accurate and as reliable as possible (Vandenberg, 2014).
Physical evidence refers to any material that is obtained from tangible objects such as fingerprints,
clothing, hairs, fibers, documents, and food items (Vandenberg, 2014). It is only used in about 20% of
all criminal cases (Vandenberg, 2014). The most known physical evidence is DNA. DNA has become

Chaelee Dalton Burnett Honors World Religions November 7 2014 The Evolving Relationship
Between the U.S. Government and the Mormon Church In 1844, Joseph Smith, ecclesiastical leader of
the Latter day Saints and presidential candidate, was murdered by an angry mob. This mob was
fostered by the release of a newspaper questioning Smith s practices (including polygamy),
qualifications, and intentions for his potential presidency. More than 150 years later, Mitt Romney, a
member of the LDS Church, launched a presidential campaign and garnered forty two percent of the
popular vote. Although these two candidates share a faith, their political roles and views are
substantially different. This is representative of the significant changes in the relationship between the
Mormon church and the U.S. government. A homegrown religion originating in the late 1820s,
Mormonism arose as a rejection of the existing Christian sects and a return to what the Mormons
considered to be pure Christianity. Similarly, the members believed their desire for a new kind of
government stemmed from their disillusionment with what they believed was a corrupt government
and a desire for the reestablishment of true American values and the original intent of the founding
fathers. This sentiment is epitomized by Joseph Smith s presidential platform, which states No honest
man can doubt for a moment, the glory of American liberty is on the wane; and that calamity and
confusion will sooner or later destroy the

CHIP emerged from a budget negotiation between a Democratic president and Republican Congress.
As such, the program represents a fine balance, designed to maintain equilibrium between states and
the federal government, as well as between political conservatives and liberals. It contains elements of
both an entitlement program and a block grant. States have the option of providing child health
assistance in SCHIP through Medicaid, a separate program, or a combination of the two. There is also
flexibility in benefit design, though benefits must meet certain set standards. As in Medicaid, state
payments for child health assistance under SCHIP qualify for federal matching payments. On average,
the federal government pays 70 percent and state governments pay 30 percent of program costs.
Unlike Medicaid, however, these enhanced federal matching payments are limited by national and
state specific allotments, or annual limits on federal funding. SCHIP has a system to redistribute
federal allotments from states that did not spend the full amount to others that may need higher
amounts. States may use up to 10 percent of their annual allotments on outreach, administration, and
other activities.
A federally funded evaluation found SCHIP to be successful in nearly all of the areas examined. Since

each dependent on different, and/or merging necessities: economics, the desire to flee negative
societal aspects, and the search for religious freedoms. Originally discovered by Christopher

excluding the Native American establishments. Following this discovery, Spain along with other

When traveling to London from urban areas created overpopulation in the city, and increasingly
horrendous conditions, the move to a more prosperous land seemed more and more inviting. This idea
was further enhanced by the works of English Richard Hakluyt in novels such as The Principal
Navigations, Voyages, and Discoveries of the English Nation, and Voyages, where readers were given
false insight into a vastly successful New World, theoretically open for prosperous settlement. Those
which moved to London with abortive attempts to find work, or which experienced the scarcity of
food/land supplies between 1580 and 1650, found these inviting opportunities as an escape to
otherwise, inevitable poverty. Conversely, those living in stable, prosperous societies, with satisfactory
social statuses, were less likely to be motivated by the influential works of Richard Hakluyt and the
overall conquest of America. Those experiencing religious unrest among the Catholic Church and the
Protestants embraced the opportunity to establish new settlements in the New World. For years, the
Protestants and Catholics battled for territory; during the reign of Edward VI, Protestants attempted to
exterminate Catholic origins, and following his death, Queen Mary s rule involved the execution of
Protestants. To escape religious conflicts, Plymouth, for instance, rose from Pilgrims fleeing England

relationship between scientific ideas and religious beliefs. Thus, to uncover peace, people have to
understand themselves first instead of focusing on problems permanently. People have the space to
understand themselves when stay with animals, and learn many meaningful ideas from them. When
people lost their families, they cannot accept it because they rarely face this kind of situations. Before
her husband passes away, Goodall believes in god. However, after losing her husband, Goodall angry
at the unjustness and starts to reject the god. To seek for healing, she decides to go to the forest and
stay with chimpanzees in Gombe. However, in the forest, animals deal with death in a totally different
way. Dead body can be finding everywhere and death is happening at all times. Thus, animals treat it

Character Manipulation in The Rise of Silas Lapham Essay
Character Manipulation in Howells The Rise of Silas Lapham
Of all the characters who undergo change in The Rise of Silas Lapham, Lapham s change is the only
one looked upon in a positive light by the narrator. William Dean Howells uses the corruption of other
characters to promote Lapham s newfound morality and reinforce his ultimate triumph. Before
Lapham s financial ruin, he is the only character with fault. Yet as his world crumbles, so does the
credibility and innocence of his wife, two daughters, and former partner, Mr. Rogers. At the same
time, the very catalyst of Lapham s ruin exonerates him. This allows Howells to reinforce Lapham s
ultimate rise in the novel, despite his financial and social failures. ... Show more content on

Mrs. Lapham is the stout morality behind her husband s affairs, Penelope and Irene are both good and
innocent girls, and Mr. Rogers is the victimized partner. With his lending money to Rogers, Lapham s
one speck (123) is removed, and his rise to moral perfection and humility begins. To underline this,
Howells at the same time destroys Mrs. Lapham s so diligently established perfect character.
Howells cleverly uses Mrs. Lapham s morality to bring about her demise. It is Mrs. Lapham s pushing
her husband to come clean with Rogers that eventually leads to his economic ruin. Perhaps this is why
she fails him when Rogers comes to the house to beg for their cooperation:
Lapham glanced again at his wife; her head had fallen; he could see that she was so rooted in her old
remorse for that questionable act of his, amply and more than fully atoned for since, that she was
helpless, now, in the crucial moment, when he had the utmost need of her insight. He had counted
upon her; he perceived now that when he had thought it was for him alone to decide, he had counted
upon her just spirit to stay his own in its struggle to be just.(305)
Mrs. Lapham, rooted in her old remorse, cannot see beyond her husband s original failure. Lapham
doesn t know yet that Mr. Rogers has persuaded her to sell the worthless property to him, instead of
the ignorant English men. When Rogers puts this to Lapham, he [sees] his wife s face light up with
eager question. We must

Research Paper On Eggshell
1
Introduction and Background of the study
Eggshell, as for what we know, is the outer covering of an egg. According
to Sonenklar, the US food industry generate 150,000 tons of eggshell wastes per
year. The percentage on how the eggshells are disposed are 26.6% as fertilizer,
21.1% used for animal feeds, 26.3% being thrown in municipal dumps, and
26.0% used for other purposes. The eggshell is mostly made up of calcium
carbonate. It is the ingredient which makes the egg shells strong and hard. A
good quality eggshell will consist of an average of 2.2 grams of calcium. Also, the
membrane of it is a valuable source of protein. When separated, both products

Comparing and Contrasting the Atkins and South Beach...
Comparing and Contrasting the Atkins and South Beach Diets
The Atkins and South Beach diets appear to be the same, but they do have their differences. They both
suggest that limiting carbohydrates in ones? meals is a successful way to lose weight. Each diet also
consists of a series of phases where carb intake can gradually increase. Although these correlations
between the two diets make them difficult to be distinguished, they are in fact quite dissimilar.
Whereas the Atkins diet allows consumption of all fats and hardly any carbs, the South Beach diet
permits certain carbs and does not allow just any fat product. Another difference arises in the area of
long term effects as several nutritionists fear that Atkins may eventually ... Show more content on

In phase three, when the dieter has increased their daily carb intake to 25 ? 50 grams and is within 5 ?
10 pounds of his goal weight, 10 more grams of carbs are added to the diet (?The Phases of Atkins?).
When one?s ideal weight is reached, the dieter is to move on to phase four. Phase four is the lifetime
maintenance phase. Here, the dieter remains on a low carb intake and thus remains at his ideal weight.
Along with the benefits of Atkins come concerns over potential harms. Several studies have shown
that Atkins is safe for the short term but may have long term effects on the heart due to such high
amount of fat that are consumed (?South Beach: Like Atkins?). Other critics argue that without
carbohydrates, a person loses phytochemicals which are thought to protect against cancer (?Long
Term Affects of Atkins?). Worries over nutritional deficits continue to persist; however, there have
been no long term studies to confirm such concerns.
The South Beach diet?s function is to help one shed pounds by allowing only certain carbs and certain
fats. This diet advocates only unsaturated fats, such as those found in olive oil, nuts, and salmon, and
forbids fried fats such as bacon. The diet also allows carbs which are high in fiber like multigrain
bread and wild rice (?South Beach: Like Atkins?). The foods that this diet allows includes these
healthy carbs and oily fats as neither raises blood sugar which leads to weight gain.

Geographical Information System ( Gis )
Water withdrawal is the amount of water taken from the ground or surface water source and water use
is defined as the water which is withdrawn for specific purposes, such as domestic, irrigation,
industrial etc. With increasing population and climate change effects, the demands for water resources
are increased; as a result, ground water and surface water withdrawals become very important. Water
resources are essential for public use, power generation, agricultural production, recreation and so on.
However, increasing effects of climate change and population growth cause sustained water shortages
in the some regions of United States. Unfortunately, in some states, water demand has exceeded the
water supply. Thus, it is very important to know past and current water withdrawal amounts to shape
policy for wise use and management of water. Therefore, visual geospatial display of water
withdrawal data with a geographical information system (GIS) is an essential tool to address the issues
related to water resources. Geographical information system (GIS) is a combination of a graphic
presentation and database. It is a general purpose technology that uses geographic data in digital form.
The abilities of GIS include processing the data into a form, which is suitable for analysis, supporting
spatial analysis and modeling, and post processing results. Moreover, it can give spatial representation
of water resources systems and bring spatial dimensions into the water resource

Experiential Marketing
FOX, Chantz Christian Creating and Sustaining Customers Through Experiential Marketing
Introduction Marketing is an evolutionary and fluid process that needs to be continually adapted to
consumers in order to keep them coming back time and time again. With increased competition and
volatility on a global scale companies must strive to differentiate themselves from competitors.
Managers should be aware that consumers are changing at an increasing rate as they become more
informed, and should shift from a product and service orientation to a consumer focused orientation.
Simply focusing on an exchange is no longer applicable in today s economy. Pine and Gilmore (1998,

The efficiency and cost effectiveness of staging internet experiences will allow marketers to get
instantaneous and up to date information, as well as educate, demonstrate, or provoke reactions from
their target audience while also building lasting relationships (Smilansky, 2009, p. 126) Hedonic and
Utilitarian Responses In order to create and maintain lasting relationships marketers and stimulate
consumer interest marketers must first identify and adapt to consumer preferences and behaviors. Two
distinctive behaviors of consumption can be identified as hedonic and utilitarian responses. Hedonic
responses are subjective and personal (Babin, Darden, and Griffin, 1994, p. 646), and describe as,
those facets of consumer behavior that relate to the multi sensory, fantasy, and emotive aspects of one
s experience with products (Hirschman and Holbrook, 1982, p. 92). In addition, values of hedonic
consumption tend to have a fun and playfulness (Holbrook and Hirschman, 1982 cited in Babin,
Darden, and Griffin, 1994, p. 646) where consumers receive enjoyment from the leisurely activity of
shopping (Bäckström, 2010) whether they make an actual purchase or just casually browsing the
newest fashion at the local department store. Utilitarian consumption values on the other hand can be
expressed as purchasing products in a deliberant and efficient manner and described by consumers as

Failure Of Nursing Medication Errors
Cause of Nursing Medication Errors Rebecka Rodriguez Adventist University of Health Sciences
Abstract: Nursing medication errors were examined by having nurses take surveys based on their
perception of why medication errors are occurring as well as visiting their work setting and observing
any errors. Nurses are encouraged to take precaution when administering medications to ensure that
the correct medication as well as the dose, is given to the correct patient. It is imperative for hospitals
to enforce medication stipulations to ensure that nurses are double checking medication labels. Studies
show that causes of medication errors are due to nurse s not understanding protocol, administration

Similar results were seen in data collected from thirty eight nurses by conducting separate interviews
to explain the occurrence of faults when giving medications. One of the simplest tasks that patients
entrust their nurse to be performing before administration of medications is, checking that the
medication correlates to the patient. It is imperative for all nurses to be participating in double
checking medications to ensure it corresponds with the patient. In this study paediatric nurses
participated in interviews to see if nurses are truly checking medications. Furthermore, home
healthcare nurses were studied to verify their perception on protocol for double checking medications.
Lastly, it is apparent that many nurses are not aware of what protocol is for their work facility.
Similarly, in the previous study, double checking medications is protocol for most if not all healthcare
facilities. This study asked nurses questions about them double checking medications and how often
do they perform it. It seems that not all nurses are on the same page with what precautions need to be
addressed in order to ensure safe drug management. In both studies nurses were able to confess that
many were not certain of the exact stipulations that needed to be met by their

Essay on Performing Dark Arts
In comparison to text based performances, those of a non text based nature can illustrate the unity
between cultures with less difficulty due to universally understood practices and semiotics in an
increasingly globalised world. Non text based performances provide both beneficial and critical
elements when compared to text based performances and this will be analysed and demonstrated with
the example of performing the dark arts . The will ensue performances of ritualised purposes,
conjuring shows, illusionary performances, stage trickery and what is identified as magic (more so
than supernatural phenomenon or witchcraft) in order to theorise how non text based performance has
shaped modern cultures, partially through globalisation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the performance of illusion and secular magic does so already. Secular magic, being of a non text
based nature does not, as previously mentioned, follow such rigid performance boundaries as text
based performances that stem from plays or scripts, for instance. A dramatic text can often represent
eras, time periods or a social or political message that can be taken in reference to that era or time. Not
to say that non text based performances do not, but somehow non text based performances can seem a
little more lenient when it comes to the recreation of an event. Often with classic work, such as that of
Shakespeare or Ibsen, it is a sensitive area when modernising such texts or even conveying them in a
non westernised setting as contextual elements of the original work can be lost. Similarly there are
linguistic barriers with such texts as different translations can blur the effect of the original dialogue.
Yet, if there is no translation at all then there is an obvious language barrier for those reading or
viewing a performance. Simon During

Summary Of Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine
Louise Erdrich s book, Love Medicine is said to be an authentic narration when it comes to Native
American life. This essay looks at the similarities between the love triangle that is depicted in Erdrich
s novel, along with the male female relationships which are described in Ruth Landes ethnographic
study of Ojibwe women and gender, which was first published in 1938 (Introduction). Parallels
between the two books certainly exist. One is even able to substitute the characters of Nector
Kashpaw, Marie Kashpaw, and Lulu Lamartine, into an almost identical situation in Landes book The
Ojibwa Woman, due to the similarities.
Louise Erdrich herself is a recognized member of the Ojibwe tribe. She also runs an independent
bookstore in Minnesota along with her daughters. The name of the bookstore is Birchbark Books; it
specializes in Native American books, jewelry, and arts. Part of the description on the website reads
Birchbark Books provides a locus for Native intellectual life. We are native owned (Louise Erdrich is
an enrolled Turtle Mountain Chippewa) and our staff is of either Native background, or exceedingly
Native friendly .
Ruth Schlossberg Landes, author of the book The Ojibwa Woman is a cultural anthropologist from
New York City. Landes received her B.C. from New York University along with her Master s degree
in social work. Later, she earned her Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University. During the
1930s at the age of twenty three, as part of her doctoral studies, Landes traveled to Fort Frances,
Ontario to research the lives of Ojibwa women. She pursued her studies aided by a woman of mixed
Scotts Cree descent named Maggie Wilson. Wilson, who grew up amongst the Ojibwas was also
known for her broad knowledge of Ojibwa customs and beliefs. Like other Native American groups,
the Ojibwa were victims of colonization and systematic oppression. Much of their land was usurped
by the government. In addition, many of the Ojibwa cultural traditions were banned or white washed.
All these factors combined resulted in the marginalization of the tribe and the erosion of their culture.
On account of Love Medicine being the title of Louise Erdrich s book, it makes sense, to begin with,
its description as

Life After Being Diagnosed With Brain Cancer Essay
In 2014, the American public was captivated by the story of a young woman who decided to end her
life after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Brittany Maynard, a 29 year old woman who had just
been married, had been having splitting headaches. She went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a
tumor. Her life became a blur of hospital visits, treatment plans, and research into what she could do.
Her doctors came to the conclusion that there was no treatment that could save Maynard s life.
According to an opinion piece that Maynard wrote for CNN, she quickly decided that death with
dignity was the best option for [her] and [her] family (Maynard). Since she lived in Oregon, the idea
of dying on an individual s terms was acceptable and legal, because of the Oregon Death with Dignity
Act. Maynard died on Saturday, November 1, 2014. Physician assisted suicide is defined as a
physician intentionally helping a person to terminate his or her life by providing drugs for self
administration, at that person s voluntary and competent request (Radbruch et al. 109). There is a large
controversy over whether or not a patient should be allowed to request and perform physician assisted
suicide; doctors and patients alike have mixed feelings on the issue. The first democratic nation to
recognize the legality of physician assisted suicide was Australia. They enacted a law that described
certain conditions where the act was legal in the Rights of the Terminally Ill Amendment Act in 1996.

The Crucible Summary
The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller in 1953, is a fictional story based on historical facts of the
Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Originally a hit Broadway play, The Crucible was later adapted into film
format. Miller s inspiration for The Crucible came from a brief anti Communist movement led by
Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin during the Cold War in the 1950s. During this time, the
American government conducted their own version of a witch hunt by illegally investigating
American citizens suspected of being Soviet sympathizers. Miller was inspired to write The Crucible
after his own arrest and after being one of many to be blacklisted in Hollywood. Arthur Miller
metaphorically compares the hysteria of the Salem Witch Trials to the very ... Show more content on

that were occurring. The girls named many men and women that were practicing magic to obtain
personal gains. Old conflicts involving property rights and money soon ignite within the community
and add more fuel to the accusations of witchcraft. Abigail also claims that Elizabeth Proctor, her ex

Elizabeth s husband, had an affair with Abigail. No one suspects that Abigail is lying. As Elizabeth is
taken to jail, John vows to stand in court the next day and confess his affair with Abigail in order to
make the community and the courts understand that the accusations of witchcraft are false.

Nuclear Crisis at Three Mile Island Essay Nuclear Crisis at Three Mile Island Abstract In March of 1979, just ten miles south of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the Nuclear Power Plant at Three Mile Island Unit 2 came close to nuclear melt down. Despite standards set by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the plant ran for several years prior to the accident under poor conditions. Communication certainly played a role in this near tragedy, as two engineers had foreseen the consequences, but their advice went unheeded. Although most of the economic and social impacts of this incident were minimal, this unpleasant event ended the nuclear power industry in America. Introduction The plant at Three Mile Island was a headache from the start. The $700,000,000 project ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the control room, approximately fifty alarms were constantly going off. Jim Creswell was certain that the operators down at TMI 2 were taking the wrong measures when accidents occurred. But Creswell was considered a nuisance and a troublemaker, whenever he brought these things to his boss attention. Everything costs money to fix, and the plant was new, they just need time to work out the kinks. Creswell was not the only one to notice the problem. At the Tennessee Valley Authority, whistle blower and engineer, Carl Michelson had found a major flaw in the system in Unit Two: The pipe connecting the pressurizer to the rest of the system dips. Like the U shaped sink drain trap at home, the bend works as a vapor lock. This is great at home, because it keeps the sewer gasses from backing up. Here, it meant that the water cooling the nuclear waste could turn to steam, and this steam could be trapped in the main loop with no safe ventilation route. Michelson realized that if the plant had such an occurrence after a few years running, the results could be disastrous, but he was also aware of how the NRC worked and how expensive it is to change equipment. Michelson was set on getting management to notice the problem, despite their opposition. The design of the control room revealed the overconfidence of plant management. The control room was designed for normal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Negatives And Negatives Of 3d Printing Every few years, a technological device emerges that changes the way we live our lives. From the typewriter to the laptop computer, technology keeps improving. We are able to type documents, erase as we choose and print as many copies as we like using a printer. Life was made easier for us. Another device is about to change our lives 3D printing. The traditional way we print today is 2D printing. We print on paper. The data we print cannot be touched physically. If we print a picture of a shoe on a paper, we cannot hold that shoe physically in our hands. That is about to change with 3D printing. This new technology will allow us to print almost anything we choose and we will be able to feel that object. Today we use forging, molding and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The virtual design can be made in a specific software such as a 3D modelling program. Once a blueprint of the object is created, we send the digital file to the printer and it prints the object. This benefits our company because all we would have to do is to create a 3D file. There would be no more need for 2D modelling and we would save time on creating the design the customer wants. There are different processes that allow 3D printing to occur but the most common one used currently is Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM). A prominent tech blog states that when the digital file is sent to the printer, the device slices the virtual design into horizontal layers. The material that is used to make the object is then melted and the printer prints the object layer by layer until the full object is created. Depending on the printer type, the material used can be rubber, plastics, paper, metals and more. Our company would be able to make different prototypes of different materials with these printers. There would be no need to get special tools for the different materials. The emergence of 3D printing has helped many companies thus far. TechRepublic states that Boeing, a well known company, uses the device. This airplane company has made over 20000 materials thus far using 3D printers. Ford has also used the device to make car parts. They recently made their 500000th part using the 3D printer. Not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the title implicates, Gregory will eventually die, and did so on January 23, 1918, when he was inadvertently shot down. Then, William B. The subject sees death as an inevitable part of his life, and most likely joined the war after [he] balanced all [and] brought all to mind and viewed his life as The years to come seemed to waste of breath, / [and] waste of breath the years behind when compared with [the speaker s new] life, [and] death. All of these mini myths center in on the central idea that everything has come from the one (Iswara) and will return to it, including Brahma s sleeping and waking cycles, in which the world is either materialized or absorbed back into Iswara, completing the cycle every time Brahma sleeps and wakes. This specific creation myth is one out of many from the Hindu religion, and is told in many different ways. Hindu myths frequently stress about cycles, and how everything begins, and has to end somehow, and our myth was no exception. • 16. Analysis Of Beneath Clouds The notion of the contemporary indigenous identity and the impact of these notions are both explored in texts that have been studied. Ivan Sen s 2002 film Beneath Clouds focuses on the stereotypical behaviours of Indigenous Australians highlighting Lina and Vaughn s journey. This also signifies the status and place of the Australian identity today. Through the use of visual techniques and stereotypes the ideas that the Indigenous are uneducated, involved in crime and the stereotypical portrayal of white people are all explored. Similarly the notion of urban and rural life is represented in Kennith Slessor s William Street and Country Towns . In contemporary times the Indigenous are stereotypically represented as being violent and aggressive. Sen is creating a stereotypical image of young Indigenous boys as criminals and dominative. An extreme close up of Vaughn behind jail bars show the separation between Vaughn and society. The stereotype of Indigenous Australians as criminals is shown in a negative light and acts as a false stereotype. The jail bars act as a physical and metaphorical barrier and the use of non diegetic music sets a mood of extreme sadness. Domestic violence is also suggested in the car ride. This Panel Show, entitled Quiz All Over Our Faces! , will be an amalgamation of several different modern TV shows of the same vein, borrowing certain aspects but not making, per say, a carbon copy of the panel shows in question. Through this we plan to create something that is not so much original but a fresh take on the formula of the panel show. The majority of shows which influence will be drawn from will be of a comedic disposition. So in saying that, the set up of the show will be, that two teams comprised of two people will compete against one another through a number of sections and based on how they perform a points system will distinguish as to who the winning side is a all times The host of the show being the one who puts these challenges to them and distinguishes who is the victor at the end of each section. Like most shows we will begin with an opening VT, comprised of motion graphics and pre recorded material that will be added in. The motion graphics themselves will be created with the programme After Effects and for a more efficient work flow, an online template will be used. The pre recorded material will be of the guests and possibly previous content which has recorded in the studio. At this point in the show both a colour scheme, a flavour of what the show is about and the name of the show will be established. Moving on from this, the Host will introduce himself and then the contestants either side of him, lower thirds used respectively for each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Mysterious Death Of Mary Rogers Essay I ve learned from the book, The Mysterious Death of Mary Rogers by Amy Gilman Srebnick that the 19th century city is way different from today s cities. The laws weren t as strict, women weren t as conservative, and abortion was legal. The death of Mary Rogers demonstrates the reality of the middle class young women in the metropolitan areas. Mary Rogers illustrates young women during the 19th century. Her story characterizes the threats of the city and the threats of the young women during 19th century New York. Mary Rogers death maintains apprehension in regards to women s changing roles, law, and sex. This case also focuses on the overdoing of abortion during the 19th century. Mary Roger s death is a symbol for the latest developing city of this century, the fluctuating role of women, and political and social reform. In today s society the good outweighs the bad but in the 19th century, the good would have never outweighed the bad. Even though the 19th century is a different time period than today s society we still share similar characteristics. The first similarity is crimes. In stark contrast, MCM 41 and UVM 7 show much different magnetic properties after successful incorporation into the silica pores. Notably, the χMT term for both silicas is higher than expected for magnetically isolated Ni8 molecules (such as those in UVM 11) which supports the presence of repeating Ni8 units forming [Ni8]x aggregates. χMT also reaches a maximum at a range of 3 10 K, in contrast to the Tmax = 3 K of the SMM alone where Tmax generally increases with increasing loading amount. This behavior can be rationalized due to magnetic anisotropy and/or antiferromagnetic interactions between aggregates. A proposed mechanism consists of Ni8 SMMs filling the silica pores and consequent aggregation which is mediated by deprotonated silanol groups present on the pores (Fig. 4). In turn [Ni8]x aggregates, joined by Ni O Ni bonds interact in a ferromagnetic manner which allows for the Ni8 monomers to undergo magnetic exchange interactions. This mechanism holds up to a point, a 100% loading amount results in packing which imposes a steric strain on the filamentous [Ni8]x and pushes the Ni O Ni angle towards a higher value, prompting antiferromagnetic interactions leading to a decrease in magnetic susceptibility. The difference between the creatures of the natural world and humans is in the aims of their motivations: the formers goal is to prolong life, while the latter wish to increase wealth. Smith s economy is ruled by supply and demand, or what things people need (or want), and how much. Therefore, it is self regulating, and needs no control from an outside source. The weak and poorly suited will fail to profit or even survive, and eventually will dwindle out of the system. The strong and fit will continue to devise means of profit making in increasingly creative and progressive ways, thus guaranteeing their survival. As a result, both the consumer society and the economy benefit, for needs are provided for and money is made, and the weak, incompetent members of society will die off, leaving humanity stronger overall. Furthermore, Smith s notion of `the invisible hand is precisely analogous to natural selection itself. Both of these ideas seem to dictate the systems they define, as though they have some sort of power or consciousness directing their progress; but, in fact, it is the opposite that is true: these `laws merely describe how their respective systems operate, and they cannot be altered. In this historic war, the men charged at the enemy guns on horseback, so this repetition in Tennyson s opening lines could be associated with the sound of galloping horses. Tennyson also uses rhetorical questions in his poem, for example, Was there a man dismay d? and When can their glory fade? These are questions to which no answer is required, and add dramatic effect to the poem. Then he uses the phrase, The Valley of Death, to describe the valley in which the charge took place. This phrase is taken from the Bible ( Psalm 23). In other translations of the Bible ( The Good News Bible), it is translated as, the deepest darkness . Tennyson uses it with dramatic effect as if the men were ordered to go into the deepest darkness to charge down the cannons. Even though the purpose of the treaty was to prevent further conflict and war, it, in fact, failed to treat all nations justifiably, including the losers of the war (Germany), because it mandated Germany to solely compensate for the loss and damages caused by the war. The restrictions treated Germany like a colony and eventually led to the decrease of German military forces, financial bankruptcy caused by excessive reparation and the rise of Nazis which triggered World War II. First of all, according to the section five of Article 159 213 of the treaty, Germany was limited to carry or maintain certain number of troops which led to significant decrease in total military forces. The treaty forced Germany to keep navy, army and air force as small as possible (1). Additionally, the number of army was diminished to 100,000 troops with no armored vehicles and they were limited to six battleships, six light cruisers, twelve destroyers, twelve torpedo and no submarines (1). This mob was fostered by the release of a newspaper questioning Smith s practices (including polygamy), qualifications, and intentions for his potential presidency. More than 150 years later, Mitt Romney, a member of the LDS Church, launched a presidential campaign and garnered forty two percent of the popular vote. Although these two candidates share a faith, their political roles and views are substantially different. This is representative of the significant changes in the relationship between the Mormon church and the U.S. government. A homegrown religion originating in the late 1820s, Mormonism arose as a rejection of the existing Christian sects and a return to what the Mormons considered to be pure Christianity. Similarly, the members believed their desire for a new kind of government stemmed from their disillusionment with what they believed was a corrupt government and a desire for the reestablishment of true American values and the original intent of the founding fathers. Using A Variety Of Peer-Reviewed Sources, This Abstract Using a variety of peer reviewed sources, this paper will focus on the problems in the United States healthcare system and its relation to children s access to healthcare. Despite efforts, there are several aspects in the current healthcare system that cause children to not have access to healthcare. In other cases the children may be eligible for health insurance but do not have insurance. As such, the program represents a fine balance, designed to maintain equilibrium between states and the federal government, as well as between political conservatives and liberals. It contains elements of both an entitlement program and a block grant. States have the option of providing child health assistance in SCHIP through Medicaid, a separate program, or a combination of the two. There is also flexibility in benefit design, though benefits must meet certain set standards. As in Medicaid, state payments for child health assistance under SCHIP qualify for federal matching payments. On average, the federal government pays 70 percent and state governments pay 30 percent of program costs. Unlike Medicaid, however, these enhanced federal matching payments are limited by national and state specific allotments, or annual limits on federal funding. SCHIP has a system to redistribute federal allotments from states that did not spend the full amount to others that may need higher amounts. States may use up to 10 percent of their annual allotments on outreach, administration, and other activities. A federally funded evaluation found SCHIP to be successful in nearly all of the areas examined. Since inception in 1997, enrollment has increased steadily to 6.1 million children in FY 2005. History of Early North American Colonies Essay The European conquest for establishing North American colonies began with various motivations, each dependent on different, and/or merging necessities: economics, the desire to flee negative societal aspects, and the search for religious freedoms. Originally discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492 in search for a trade route to Cathay (China), North America remained uninhabited, excluding the Native American establishments. When traveling to London from urban areas created overpopulation in the city, and increasingly horrendous conditions, the move to a more prosperous land seemed more and more inviting. This idea was further enhanced by the works of English Richard Hakluyt in novels such as The Principal Navigations, Voyages, and Discoveries of the English Nation, and Voyages, where readers were given false insight into a vastly successful New World, theoretically open for prosperous settlement. Those which moved to London with abortive attempts to find work, or which experienced the scarcity of food/land supplies between 1580 and 1650, found these inviting opportunities as an escape to otherwise, inevitable poverty. Conversely, those living in stable, prosperous societies, with satisfactory social statuses, were less likely to be motivated by the influential works of Richard Hakluyt and the overall conquest of America. Those experiencing religious unrest among the Catholic Church and the Protestants embraced the opportunity to establish new settlements in the New World. For years, the Protestants and Catholics battled for territory; during the reign of Edward VI, Protestants attempted to exterminate Catholic origins, and following his death, Queen Mary s rule involved the execution of Protestants. To escape religious conflicts, Plymouth, for instance, rose from Pilgrims fleeing England to form primarily a religious settlement of Puritan Separatists. Despite the successful formation ... This essay looks at the similarities between the love triangle that is depicted in Erdrich s novel, along with the male female relationships which are described in Ruth Landes ethnographic study of Ojibwe women and gender, which was first published in 1938 (Introduction). Parallels between the two books certainly exist. One is even able to substitute the characters of Nector Kashpaw, Marie Kashpaw, and Lulu Lamartine, into an almost identical situation in Landes book The Ojibwa Woman, due to the similarities. Louise Erdrich herself is a recognized member of the Ojibwe tribe. She also runs an independent bookstore in Minnesota along with her daughters. Part of the description on the website reads Birchbark Books provides a locus for Native intellectual life.
