Alpine Drive Investigation
Leading up to the investigation, at 10:30 the Police Communications Bureau called me at home and
informed me of a request for a Detective follow up at Alpine Drive. Originally, patrol officers
responded to the address regarding yelling and screaming, but once they arrived they found the door
open and no one inside. While responding officers were still at the scene, others were dispatched to a
location a couple miles away where a passing reported someone lying next to the roadway. Officers
found a young woman who had been badly beaten and stabbed. The victim did happen to be alive but
was unconscious. She was transported to the hospital where she is reported to be in critical condition.
While this is all going on, officers stood at the hospital. They believe the unidentified victim could be
connected to the call on Alpine Drive. When I arrived, a Patrol Sergeant filled me in on the
circumstances. Neighbors called 9 1 1 to report the sound of yelling and a female voice ... Show more

My informative essay s topic will be about a new male oral contraceptive that s still being developed. I
decided to write about male contraceptives when I was searching for topic ideas on sciencedaily.com.
The article title caught my eye because I didn t know there was such a thing as male contraceptives
other than condoms or getting a Vasectomy. The article title was Dual protein knockout could lead to

Organizational Behaviour
1. What is the importance of interpersonal skills?
The importance of interpersonal skills is that you need to understand how to deal with other people
and involve your acceptance of others, without prejudice in order to achieve your task.
2. What do managers do in terms of functions, roles, and skills?
Management is a process that is used to accomplish organizational goals; that is, a process that is used
to achieve what an organization wants to achieve. Managers are the people to whom this management
task is assigned.
In terms of Functions, Managers do Planning, Organizing, Directing and Controlling.

The consistencies allow predictability.
Systematic study means looking at relationships, attempting to attribute causes and effects, and basing
our conclusions on scientific evidence; that is, on data gathered under controlled conditions and
measured and interpreted in a reasonably rigorous manner.
Systematic study replaces intuition or those gut feelings you often hear experienced managers talk
about. While some of our appraisals may prove highly effective in explaining and predicting the
behavior of others, we all carry with us a number of beliefs that frequently fail to explain why people
do what they do.
This occurs because many of the views we hold concerning human behavior are based on intuition
rather than fact. There is a better way; a systematic approach to the study of behavior can improve
your explanatory and predictive abilities and will uncover important facts and relationships, and
provide a base from which more accurate predictions of behavior can be made.
Most behavior does not occur randomly; it generally has a cause caused and direction based upon
some end that the individual believes, rightly or wrongly, is in his or her best interest. Because of
differences between individuals even in similar situations, people do not all act alike.

The Symbolism of Eating and Food in Bartleby, The...
Bartleby, The Scrivener is a memorable story, by Herman Melville, that is able to keep its readers
captivated from beginning to end. How does the author successfully grab the attention of his readers?
The author utilized his masterful command of the English language to convey the characters, setting,
and plot effectively; and in the midst of all the detailed descriptions Melville have used food and the
action of eating as powerful symbols. In the story three of the characters have names that are
associated with food, and the main character of study, Bartleby, eventually dies of starvation by
choice. Given the setting of the story was in the onset of the second industrial revolution, the coming
of the big corporations where Wall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were striped of the regular human emotions and were created merely as puppets to assist the
delivery of other symbolic means. The names of Turkey, Ginger Nut and Nippers were symbolic
nicknames the characters had of each other, they fit their physical and personality characteristics. On a
deeper level the lawyer may also hinted that they were insignificant figures, the lawyer never even
used their real names and their real names were never introduced, they were just a few of many
scriveners in the lawyer s memory.
Turkey is a short and overweight English man around 60 years old. He is named turkey because when
he is angry his neck would turn red almost resembles a turkey. His mood changes as sure as time

afternoon. He would start getting easily distracted and frustrated maybe due to intoxication. Turkey

Feminism in Late 19th Century American Short Stories
Research Question: How is feminism revealed through the divergence of women s roles in society and
their own personal desires in the American short stories The Yellow Wall Paper, The Story of an Hour,
The Storm, and Life in the Iron Mills ?
Introduction
Literature changes as current events change and as the structure of society begins to shift. American
feminist literature started to become prevalent during the Victorian era, or around the latter part of the
19th century. This is the time when the first wave of feminism in the United States hit. The Seneca
Falls Convention the first women s rights convention and the emergence of Elizabeth Cady Stanton
and Susan B. Anthony s American Equal Rights Association in the middle of the 19th century are
among some of the noteable events that sparked this movement in literature. Women across America
were inspired by the changing of the times, and that is reflected in many American female authors
writings.
Some of these authors include Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Kate Chopin, and Rebecca Harding Davis,
whose short stories speak volumes about the thoughts and emotions of women during this time period.
Life in the Iron Mills was written in 1861, The Yellow Wall Paper in 1892, The Story of an Hour in
1894, and finally The Storm in 1898. Every story was written during the Victorian era; every author
had personally experienced life

Essay On Myasthenia Gravis
Myasthenia Gravis Damage to the neuromuscular junctions is due to an autoimmune disease called
myasthenia graves. The motor end plates, which are located on skeletal muscles, are affected because
there is a decrease in the amount of Ach receptors located on the motor end plate, which is connected
to the neuromuscular junction. The decrease is due to the unnecessary production of antibodies, which
bind to the motor end plate. This prevents Ach from binding to the receptors to carry out a synapse
between the skeletal muscle and a neuron, leading to a stop or weakening of muscle contraction. The
decrease in the amounts of synapses cause the skeletal muscle to lose function, become weaker, and
tire more easily. Men and women are both at risk for developing myasthenia gravis, but the disease is
more prevalent in women. However, the age of diagnosis varies. Men typically receive their diagnosis
between the ages of 50 and 60 years old; women are usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40
years old. There is no known research to conclude if a particular race is at a higher disadvantage to

One type of drug class are anticholinesterase, which inhibits acetylcholine in order to increase the
levels of Ach in the body to bind to functional receptors to increase the amount of synapses.
Corticosteroids and immunosuppresants are other drugs that can be used to suppress the immune
system s attack on the motor end plates. To stop developing tumors on their thymus, patients might opt
to have their thymus removed by a procedure called a thymectomy. Another procedure that can be
done is a plasmapheresis, which reduces the number of antibodies in the blood so there are more open
receptors for Ach to bind to. However, it is important to know that treatment varies from patient to
patient and no patient is the same with this

Public Goods Game Experiment
Introduction
A public goods game is an experimental game where subjects choose the amount of money or tokens
they would like to place in a public pot. It is done so privately without anyone else knowing about it.
The amount is then multiplied equally by a factor, and it is then equally shared among the participants.
(Radoc, 2001) Although some players would have contributed less they are allowed to keep tokens or
money amounts they did not contribute. Peoples contributions are also heavily subjective what how
much their peers contribute, and also benchmarked upon previous contributions (Augenblick Cunha,
2014) We have conducted a small experiment in our student accommodation to test and see the
behavior of people in a natural setting.

This was tested with the famous paradox known as The Ellsberg Paradox, which indicates that
decision makers are often ambiguity averse, preferring options with subjectively known probabilities

as, when an individual is presented with two options they choose the option with a lower risk. People
were willing to take the risk in Round 5 because they knew that although there was a chance of
numerous participants contributing the maximum value, there would still be some amount they would
benefit from and receive. However in round 6 there was a chance that they may not participate in the
coin toss and there is a 50% chance they may not receive anything at all. Although they pay offs were

What Is The Value Of Human Life
Tick Tock. I cannot be late. My boss will fire me if I am late. Why does the world place so much value
into the artificial construct of time? One of the reasons that time is so valuable is because we have a
limited amount of it. However, effort, commitment, and beauty also possess value. How do we decide
what actually has value? Certain aspects of reality, such as human life, intrinsically possess value, and
deserve protection regardless of their individual personalities.
Say a project is due in two weeks. There is plenty of time to relax. But what if the project is due
tomorrow? Suddenly, time seems more valuable. The world gives extraordinary value to the little
scraps of paper we call money. While the monetary value does not change, the personal value varies
greatly depending on the perspective. These examples explain how the perception of value differs
depending on quantity. Individuals living in poverty value their possessions and relationships more
than the rich. Human mortality highlights the value of living life with a purpose, whether that purpose
prolongs one s own life, or protects the lives of others.
Life Boat Ethics discusses the value of human life by presenting the argument that, if ten people could
fit in a lifeboat, then one should give up their spot for someone who deserves it more (Hardin).
However, the article does not specify what makes any person more worthy of salvation than the
others. If one bases value on the amount of time possessed, then surely the children are the most
important lives. However, the elderly have gained experience and wisdom, both of which contain
value. And what if the person given a spot by the sacrifice of another gives up his spot as well? This
means that the first person s sacrifice was meaningless. How does one determine which life has more
value in these circumstances?
Museums and art enthusiasts spend a lot of money on works of art. Why are certain paintings more
valuable than others? There are not a limited amount of paintings. Perhaps it is impossible to truly
calculate value, because the perception of value differs between individuals. A critic would value a
beautiful piece of artwork more than an average piece, and would consequently spend more money or

How Facebook Marketing Is Violating Consumer Privacy Essay
How Facebook Marketing is Violating Consumer Privacy
The marketing industry is an elaborate network that links companies to their consumers, primarily
through written communication. The main objective of marketing is to identify trends and patterns in
consumer behavior, and utilize the data to influence consumers to purchase more goods. From a
macroenviroment standpoint, the general conditions of a market are heavily dependent on global
environmental factors. The most significant factor that influences the markets today is technological
advancements. Since the release of Facebook, Linked in, Twitter, and Myspace in the early 2000s, the
number of people using social media has increased to over sixty five percent. The ever growing
dependency on social media platforms, has given marketers the tremendous opportunity to further
market potential consumers. Social media marketing is a specific form of marketing that focuses on
producing ad content that social media users will post on their own networks. This particular
marketing technique is effective because ads and content are created, based on what personal
information users post on social media. Firms and organizations that advertise their brands on social
media are more likely to increase their customer base and annual revenue. By doing so, companies are
able to increase exposure of their brand and widen previous hidden, customer bases. As a marketer,
the fine line between right and wrong is often blurred. The amount and

My Greatest Experience
The greatest experience of my life
Can you recall the greatest experience of your life? Football has been a love of mine since I was a
undersized kid. I really grew attached to a team called the Washington Redskins. A lot of my sundays
were spent in front of the television gazing as the Redskins put in work. On September 24th my dad
came home with pale papers in his rugged hand. He placed the papers in my grip which were tickets to
go see the Redskins play the Chiefs in Kansas City on October 2nd.
First off, the excitement I felt rush throughout my body was nothing i ve ever felt in the time that i ve
spent on this Earth. It was hard to believe that I was actually going to see the team I watched growing
up. One of the best parts about it was going to the loudest stadium in the United States. I knew going
into the game that the Kansas City Chiefs were no joke, because they were undefeated on the season at
that point.
Secondly, I woke up on the second of October smelling victory, which also smelt like pancakes. I
tasted a golden sticky syrup on my puffy pancakes. I had glorious pieces of bacon that tasted like god
made them himself. I made sure to get enough food to last me the lengthy excruciating car ride.
Next, it was time for a quick shower so I didn t smell funky. It was probably one of the quickest
showers I have ever taken due to being ready to get on the road for the game. Please don t take points

Woman Hollering Creek Summary
Woman Hollering Creek
As I was reading the Marriage unit assignments, I found I had a hard time relating to the readings as I
am Asexual Aromatic and cannot relate to the relationships or many of the circumstances the authors
wrote about. However, one story that really stood out which I could semi relate to, was Woman
Hollering Creek by Sandra Cisneros. The main character Cleófilas s story has many similarities to my
mother s. While the story doesn t directly relate to me, the parallel events of Cleófilas s and my
mother s stories have affected my life in one way or another. Similarly to Cleófilas, my mother
experienced domestic violence, isolation from friends and family, as well as a fear of shame towards
leaving her husband. Within Cisneris s story, the main character Cleófilas experienced domestic
violence just as my mother had in her past. A few years ago, after my parent s had separated, I was
talking with my mother; somehow we go on the topic of domestic violence and abuse. She told me
about the first time my father hit her. She said that she was so shocked she couldn t even respond. That

The Life Of Superman Saves Seven Children
Thinking back to my admittedly privileged childhood, the most vivid memory I had wasn t of my first
dance recital, or my first lacrosse game, or even my first fist fight that I won against my seventh grade
bully. It wasn t even of the day when my father was brutally murdered in front of my sister and I when
we were thirteen. No, the most evocative memory I had was the day I purchased the newspaper for my
parents at age twelve and saw, sprawled across the cover, the headline that changed my life forever.
SUPERMAN SAVES SEVEN CHILDREN; PRAISED AS HERO ONCE MORE.
That day, I took my alarmingly large amount of allowance, went down to the novelty store across the
road, and bought sixty seven dollars worth of Superman merchandise. I came home with six comic
books, three old newspapers, an action figure, a skimpy tank top that made its way to college with me
before being puked all over, and a notepad that would later fuel my journalistic obsession to become
as great as Lois Lane, Superman s girl of choice.
A month after acquiring that first newspaper for my parents, my father left the world with a bullet hole
placed cleanly in the center of both eyes.
Soon after my Superman obsession began to dwindle in my first year of college, the masked hero
Batman faced off with his archenemy and made headlines in Gotham, where I attended school. So I
traded in my Superman shorts for a Batman shirt and went searching for him on the streets at night,
desperate.
Late in my third year of

Bilingualism Benefits
The Benefits of Bilingualism
Nelson Mandela, as cited in U.S Department of Education (2010), once said, if you talk to a man in a
language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his
heart (para. 14). Linguistic diversity has become an important factor in society and more and more
people are growing up with the ability to speak more than one language. The Linguistic Society of
America (n.d) states that most of the world s population is bilingual or multilingual in the world,
where an estimated 5,000 distinct languages are being spoken, and only minorities of citizens are
monolingual (para. 1). Being bilingual means that a person is able to speak two languages fluently,
while multilingualism means that a person can speak two or more languages with high proficiencies.
In the United States and especially in the Washington Metropolitan area, a variety of bilingual people
from all different backgrounds and ethnicities live together in one community, so hearing languages
from all parts of the world is a phenomenon that can be witnessed on a daily basis. Their abilities have
a positive effect on the human brain while also impacting different aspects of life, such as cognitive
capabilities, business opportunities and social communication skills.
Speaking a second language enhances auditory attention, which is related to comprehending multiple

The violence in video games is not always noticeable to most adults or more specifically the non

video game it s more tempting to play. Teenagers seem to be aggressive already at moments because
of puberty and other teenage life problems, but, there are other reasons they are very aggressive out of
nowhere . The aggression really comes from the teenagers environment and/or the violence in the
video games they play. Kirsh stated that adolescents tend to play violent video games in their
development stage, which could cause them to respond to provocative situations with the greatest
aggression. (Kirsh 383) With teens going through their stages of development they could think that the
video games that they re playing frequently are normal ways of life. For example the actions they see

Strategic Management at the Walt Disney Company
Identify an episode of strategic change for an organisation of your own choice. How appropriate was
the approach to strategic change given the issues faced by the organisation? Critically evaluate the
effectiveness of the strategic leadership during the change process. Identify the impact of the change
episode upon the key resources and core competencies of your organisation.
This paper will analyse a recent period of strategic change at The Walt Disney Company which began
in 2005 with the appointment of current CEO Robert Iger. The company began to experience halted

Financially, Iger managed to steadily increase share prices from a 2005 average of $25 to an average
of around $34 in 2007 (Barnes, 2010). Despite a global recession which halted consumption of
products and visits to its theme parks, the company has seemingly recovered its low of $15 in 2009
with its share prices reaching almost $38 as of May 2010. As I will explain however, the strategic
change at Disney has not only provided short term profits, it has put the company in a position in
which it can sustain its competitive advantage in the long term due to the changes in the structure and
underlying culture of the organisation.
Beginning with the pre 2005 context of Disney s business environment I will show why Eisner s
autocratic style of management was impeding the necessary changes the company needed to survive
in light of the issues facing the company. Following on from this analysis I can assess the process of
change which the company undertook relating to relevant theories in the strategic change literature.
This will allow me to evaluate the effectiveness of the leadership during this process and show how
CEO Iger was central to the changes which took place, again in accordance with strategic leadership
theories. Finally I will attempt to identify how Disney has harnessed its key resources and core
competencies throughout the process of strategic change to give itself a

Macbeth-Struggle for Power
It is indeed evident that the play, Macbeth is ultimately about the struggle for power. Power is
something many desire where people often change and become evil in their attempts to acquire it and
during this play the characters go through many changes which lead to disaster. The two main
characters mostly influenced by power in this Shakespearean play are Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
Macbeth is swayed by the prophecy made by the witches and also by Lady Macbeth who holds great
control over her husband. Through the analysis of characters and techniques it can be seen that the
desire of gaining power is evident in the play, Macbeth and that the characters stop at nothing to
achieve their goals.

The effect of ambition on Macbeth drives him into his contemptible acts in order to assume the throne.
He falls into a deep obsession which consumes his rational thought and he becomes very evil and
conniving. Is this the dagger which I see before me, the handle towards my hand? (ACT II scene 1,
line 33 34) This foreshadowing illustrates the subconscious thoughts of Macbeth and how they
materialize in front of him. He starts to visualize this dagger, predicting the malicious tasks ahead
which add the disturbing atmosphere. Macbeth chooses to abuse his power over others and he
becomes a hated king. This is caused not only by his cruelty but also the many superstitions by people
who think he killed Duncan which greatly depleted his power. Lady Macbeth is quick to become evil
in her ways as she is the mastermind behind the killing of Duncan. He that s coming must be provided
for, and you shall put this night s great business into my dispatch (ACT I scene 6, lines 64 66). These
heartless puns convey Lady Macbeth s merciless intentions for the night s gathering. Being provided
for often takes on the meaning of being fed but in this case Lady Macbeth is referring to the death of
King Duncan. Putting the night s business into her dispatch appears to be something along the lines of
carrying out the welcome of the guests and of course she is indicating that Macbeth must follow her
instruction in order to kill King Duncan.

Analysis Of The Skill Of Self-Confidence
In his TedTalk The Skill of Self Confidence (15:40), Dr. Ivan Joseph discusses the importance of
having faith in oneself and how confidence is ultimately a result of our attitudes/actions. He begins
with a story about how, after winning the National Championship as a college soccer coach, he faced
hundreds of parents and players that wanted to be apart of his team. However, despite the great skills
they brought to the actual game, he was more concerned with their self confidence, as he felt that that
was the determining factor of whether or not they would be great players for his team. The entire talk
sits upon that foundation; if one has confidence in their own abilities to overcome any given obstacle,
they will be successful in whatever they choose to do. He clarifies that self confidence is a skill rather
than a trait because he believes it can be learned. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joseph s message can be applied to almost any element of our class. Self confidence is needed in
business communication, leadership, self protection, and general everyday operations. In the corporate
world, it is important that an employee is sure of themselves and what they are working for. As we
have learned, goal oriented workers are the most productive, and open communication is necessary for
a healthy setting. Both of these involve self confidence; when setting a goal, a leader must be
confident in their abilities to help staff members achieve it. Those who actually carry out the tasks

Various pollutants generated and deposited in the urban regions are washed off to the receiving waters
during storm events, resulting in receiving water quality degradation. The impacts on receiving water
quality degradation include elevated toxicity, algal blooms and excessive sedimentation.
Thus, use of stormwater pollution mitigation strategies to improve the quality of receiving waters has
become increasingly important. Water sensitive urban design (WSUD) is the stormwater management
philosophy adopted in Australia. The aims of WSUD are to manage stormwater quality and quantity to
minimise the impacts of urban developments on the surrounding environment (Lloyd et al., 2002).
WSUD concepts are developed to provide technically effective, more economical and less
environmentally damaging solutions for stormwater management.
However, there are barriers in widespread implementation of WSUD. In this regard, the long term
viability of implemented WSUD systems are perceived with high level of importance (Lloyd et al.,
2002). The primary concern is that the treatment systems adopted in WSUD approach are typically
designed considering static climate conditions. Changing climate in future scenarios including
changes to rainfall patterns and characteristics of dry periods can reduce the effectiveness of such
WSUD systems (Beecham et al., 2012).
Climate change would have a significant impact on the future functionality of WSUD. Researchers
commonly agree that

The Cockatoucan And Coming Of-Age Matence
[If] you make me the Princess s governess, I ll see what I can do... (177) the little girl asks the
hopeless King. In The Cockatoucan, or Great Aunt Willoughby by E. Nesbit, compiled in Neil Gaiman
s Unnatural Creatures, the narrator draws attention to gender and age inequality. Overcoming various
obstacles, the protagonist demonstrates her maturity throughout the journey, where she chooses to
make decisions for the sake of the kingdom of Green Land. Saving the kingdom from the unnatural
creature, the girl s actions and maturity serve as a platform in addressing today s public affairs. In the
light of these social issues, I will argue that Nesbit imposes on the themes of Voyage and Return and

Although Matilda is portrayed as a female child heroine, Colin Manlove implies that Nesbit suggests
that the capabilities of female children are underestimated in his journal article entitled Fantasy as
Witty Conceit: E. Nesbit. In this journal article, Manlove critiques that there are two sides of Nesbit
the realist and the supernaturalist ...where magic is given a colloquial and comic face, and is brought
into contact with very human children (126). This implies that the direct audience are those oppressed
by society s double standards, especially female children, and the indirect audience are those who
ridicule the capabilities of the oppressed. The story draws attention to social issues ( realist ) by
assimilating fantasy fiction ( supernaturalist ). In this case, both children and women are belittled due
to their age and gender, respectively. Since gender bias is an issue, professors, who published the
journal article Gender Differences in Children s Hero Attributions: Personal Hero Choices and
Evaluations of Typical Male and Female Heroes, observe that boys were expected to endorse heroes
for their ability to act on the world (instrumental attributes) and for their wealth or fame (prestige)
more than girls (Holub, et al. 569). This alludes that the gender gap does not only apply to adults, but
also children. Through their

Summer Drowning Research Paper
Summer Drowning As I get older the memories I have seemed to become more fabricated due to time
floating by and my imagination becoming rigid. Near death experiences are recollections that are not
easily forgotten. A sweltering Massachusetts summer seemed like the perfect day to go to the beach.
Cloudless summers are not easily attainable while living in Boston, Massachusetts. When these days
arrive, making the most out of it seems like a reasonable option. My mother, brother, and I headed to
the sandy stone beach of Beverly Massachusetts. The smell of sunscreen, still distinct in my brain. The
fresh scent of leaves, the sound of waves lapping on the shore, and children running happily. Little
will I know that this day would change my life forever. The ocean is strong and steady mixing with
sand burning beneath the soles of my feet. My brother Joshua seemed very frantic to head into the

expressed by Anthony Vidler: Recent proposals and debates over the architectutural devlopment of

architecture has been gradually reduced to the symbolic and the emblematic. Its forms of expresion
are no longer closely tied back to urban issues and physical planning questions. (Toward a theory of

World War II, the economy became a lot more global, the service industry grew and there has been an

Understanding Malaria Essay
Understanding Malaria
For several years, I have had an interest in virology and the spread and characteristics of various
infectious diseases. Though it makes sense not to possibly induce a state of panic by informing
individuals of illnesses that are not native to the area they live in and that they are not likely to
contract, I have always liked to remain informed out of my own curiosity and interest. Thus, I have
decided to write about malaria.
Malaria kills more people than any communicable disease except for tuberculosis. It is caused by four
species of parasitic protozoa that infect human red blood cells. Four different types of these protozoa

Malaria, however, is not unique to Africa. There are a multitude of documented cases in Asia annually,
particularly in countries such as India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Malaria has also been
known to occur in portions of Iran and the Middle East. Lower altitude regions of South and Central
America also have their share of annual malaria cases, but control programs set up in those regions
typically keep things under control. Generally, North America, Europe, and the Carribean have been
highly successful in the control and elimination of malaria, although isolated, rare cases of local
transmission have occured in Haiti, Turkey, and the Dominican Republic.
Medical treatment for malaria is available and the disease is curable if promptly diagnosed and treated
well. This is crucial because those who have malaria parasites available for mosquitoes to feed on are
perpetuating the spread of the disease. However, if these people are treated with the appropriate drugs,
the parasites disappear from their bloodstream. This helps to reduce the transmission of the disease.
Unfortunately, not everyone is responsive to drug treatments for malaria and thus a variety of
alternatives need to be available. Not everyone with malaria parasites in their bloodstream shows the
symptoms of malaria and the disease itself is becoming resistant to some of the drugs used to treat

Marketing Functions Of Marketing And Marketing
Business world has changed in the past few years, owing to globalization, advent of technology and
emergence of de regulation in market place. At the same time the vendors have altered the business
model, while consumers are becoming more aware and knowledgeable. In the wake of such trends, the
marketing function is used as a measure in the business to business practice, to capture and place
varied products in a market place (Kono, 2004). A typical market function provides details regarding
the planning, information, product distribution, consumer support, risk taking, financing, and
standardization and grading amongst other things (Makloof and Sundberg, 2006). In business a market
function acts in respect to the corporate marketing, strategic marketing, field marketing and analysis.
Furthermore the relevance of this measure, is also evident in the case of product management and
marketing (Kono, 2004).
Relevance of marketing functions Typically a market function in business influences the consumer
orientation for the organization, and contribute towards the organizational performance (Makloof and
Sundberg, 2006). It is reflected that an influential marketing function becomes responsible for
effective financial performance, owing to the analytic marketing intelligence framework, and day to
day management of the market by the organization (Merlo and Bell, 2007). Most marketing studies
focus on marketing process and strategies, and fail to consider the relevance of this

Essay On White Nose Syndrome
The mysterious phenomenon known as white nose syndrome has only been around for 11 years, yet it
has had a devastating effect on the bat population. White nose syndrome is a disease which kills
hibernating bats, named because of the white fungus coating the muzzle of its victims. Of the over
1,000 bat species in the world, only 7 species seem to be affected by white nose syndrome. This
disease can wipe out 89 to 99 percent of a colony, and has already killed more than 5.7 million bats in
eastern North America; it shows no signs of slowing down or stopping. The Richmond guarantee
would be the perfect opportunity to help contribute to research for white nose syndrome. There is not
much information on white nose syndrome. The disease was first documented in New York in the
winter of 2006 and has quickly made its way south, into Virginia and beyond. White nose syndrome
spreads quickly and targets bats hibernating in infected caves. The syndrome has already killed
millions of bats on the eastern half of the United States. The disease impacts a colony over the course
of 2 to 3 years before it reaches a deadly state, so the effects are continuing to grow in many areas.

Charles Dickens, a well known writer, once said Subdue your appetites, my dears, and you ve

the statement. The quote can be clearly reflected in the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding. In
the book, a group of boys get stranded on an island with no grownups. As the boys struggle to survive
and stay connected with society, the primitive nature of the boys begin to appear. In the end, the group

My Personal Experience Of Sexuality Education At Avondale...
The time at which we are at school is thought to be one of the most critical times of our lives. It is a
period in our life in which we start discovering ourselves and our sexualities.School is an institution
that is thought to provide enrichment in all aspects, not just academic stimulation but also emotional
maturity and psychological development.Sexuality education therefore has become a fundamental
aspect of one s learning as it not only enables us to formulate ideas regarding sexual identity and
gender but also allows us acknowledge ourselves as sexual beings. It can be argued that sexuality is not
the property of the individual and is not a hormonally or biologically given quality (Epstein,O Flynn
and Telford, 2003) but rather it is a socially constructed paradigm or notion that permeates almost all
aspects of not just schooling but our society, both formally and informally. This notion of sexuality is
ever changing and it is made dynamic by particular events in history that change our perspectives and
priorities.By using my personal experience of sexuality education at Avondale College and
St.Dominic s College,I aim to demonstrate the ever increasing importance of comprehensive sexuality
education in New Zealand and show how the current curriculum very successfully promotes
heteronormativity but often fails to wholeheartedly acknowledge desire, homosexualtity and teenage
pregnancy. This failure to acknowlege key aspects of sexuality in schools has numerous consequences

General Douglas Macarthur s Farewell Address to Congress...
Introduction
General Douglas Macarthur was one of the most well known military figures in the history of the
United States. He gave his farewell speech to congress on 19th April 1951 and went into retirement

During the Great Depression, he used force against World War 1 veterans and was highly criticized for
his action (Simkin). In 1937, he retired from US Army and took up the position as the field marshal
and director of national defense in Philippines offered to him by the Philippine government.
In 1941, President Roosevelt recruited him to return to his duty in the US army and he was appointed
as the Commander of US Army Forces in the Far East to defend Philippine against the Japanese
attacks. He was unable to protect Philippines and he was directed to escape to Australia, where he
became the supreme commander of Southwest Pacific theatre. Unhappy with his defeat in the
Philippines, he began to plan his counterattacks towards Japan and slowly took over all of New
Guinea, the Admiralties, western New Britain, and Morotai. Japanese surrendered in 1945 and he was
sent to Japan to occupy it until 1951. The Korean War broke out in 1950 and he was appointed as the
supreme commander of the Allied Powers. However, in 1951, President Truman and General
Macarthur had conflicting policies for Korea and the President relieved him from his duties. In April
1951, he gave his farewell speech to the Congress (Gale Research).

Westport Home Profile Essay
ABC s new sitcom American Housewife claims Westport, Connecticut is a town where every idiot has
a boat and a labradoodle. Indeed, Westport s defining characteristic is its extravagant wealth. New
York City is only 45 minutes away by train, making Westport a popular location for adults working in
financial or law firms to raise their families. The coastal town offers beaches and boating on the Long
Island Sound and a phenomenal public school system. In addition to funding the excellent public
school system, Westport s wealth creates a beautiful look for the town. Census Tract 503 is in the
sylvan area of Westport. My house sticks out from the large, renovated colonial houses that scatter the
tree filled landscape. It is a small, two story, white Cape Cod that has not been added to since my great
great grandfather built it in the early 1900s. The five houses that surround my own were all originally
built by my great great grandfather as well, but homeowners have since added or extended floors. My
house is dwarfed by those of my neighbors and the rest of Westport. The distribution of wealth is

s lavish architecture also reflects its ornate culture. Among adults, large dinner

Gloria Clors And Gestalt Therapy
In the Gloria tapes, there were three different types of therapy sessions presented in each tape. The

also known as Rational Emotional Behavior Therapy represented by Albert Ellis, and Gestalt Therapy
represented by Fritz Perls. The sessions were given to the same women named Gloria that presented a
different problem each time. The goal of experiencing each type of therapy session was to figure out
what therapy style out of the three best helped Gloria.
The first therapy style Gloria was introduced to was Person Centered Therapy and the therapist was
Carl Rogers. Viewing Rogers at my own viewpoint, for the time period, he seems unbelievable. ...

The kind of therapy was very much less confrontational when compared to Gestalt Therapy as well as
a lot more talking. Ellis guided the conversation more and tended to ask questions that involve her
expressing herself less compared to the other two kinds of therapies. My first impression of this kind
of therapy was very negative, for some reason I believed that it was not quite beneficial for Gloria,
however, when I watched it a second time, I realized that my interpretation was different and that this
therapy and the advice from the therapist was actually benefit Gloria. The connection between the two
seemed to start off quick because Gloria was actually a fan of his book but really seemed to firm was
when Ellis brought up the mangled arm it really seemed like they were on the same level. I believe
that this session overall helped Gloria thinking more and caused her to take more actions especially
because of the homework assignment that Ellis said he would give her if she was his client. What
really shown me that the session was beneficial for Gloria was when Ellis said assume the worse .
When Ellis said this, Gloria pulled out a cigarette which to me says that his words are getting to her
and making her think because I have noticed that she seems to smoke when she feels nervous or
pressured and needs to calm down. Thus, this means that she is trying to think through Ellis s

  • 2. Alpine Drive Investigation Leading up to the investigation, at 10:30 the Police Communications Bureau called me at home and informed me of a request for a Detective follow up at Alpine Drive. Originally, patrol officers responded to the address regarding yelling and screaming, but once they arrived they found the door open and no one inside. While responding officers were still at the scene, others were dispatched to a location a couple miles away where a passing reported someone lying next to the roadway. Officers found a young woman who had been badly beaten and stabbed. The victim did happen to be alive but was unconscious. She was transported to the hospital where she is reported to be in critical condition. While this is all going on, officers stood at the hospital. They believe the unidentified victim could be connected to the call on Alpine Drive. When I arrived, a Patrol Sergeant filled me in on the circumstances. Neighbors called 9 1 1 to report the sound of yelling and a female voice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She works evening as a food server and gets off around 11:00 PM. Lacy went to the hospital to see if the woman found by the roadway was Linda. Officers standing by at the hospital phone me to report Lacy identified the victim as Linda Corbett. While some of our appraisals may prove highly effective in explaining and predicting the behavior of others, we all carry with us a number of beliefs that frequently fail to explain why people do what they do. This occurs because many of the views we hold concerning human behavior are based on intuition rather than fact. There is a better way; a systematic approach to the study of behavior can improve your explanatory and predictive abilities and will uncover important facts and relationships, and provide a base from which more accurate predictions of behavior can be made. Feminism During 19th Century American Short Stories Kaylee Gould Ms. Henderson 3rd period Feminism in Late 19th Century American Short Stories Research Question: How is feminism revealed through the divergence of women s roles in society and their own personal desires in the American short stories The Yellow Wall Paper, The Story of an Hour, The Storm, and Life in the Iron Mills ? Introduction Literature changes as current events change and as the structure of society begins to shift. American feminist literature started to become prevalent during the Victorian era, or around the latter part of the 19th century. This is the time when the first wave of feminism in the United States hit. The Seneca Falls Convention the first women s rights convention and the emergence of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony s American Equal Rights Association in the middle of the 19th century are among some of the noteable events that sparked this movement in literature. Women across America were inspired by the changing of the times, and that is reflected in many American female authors writings. Some of these authors include Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Kate Chopin, and Rebecca Harding Davis, whose short stories speak volumes about the thoughts and emotions of women during this time period. Life in the Iron Mills was written in 1861, The Yellow Wall Paper in 1892, The Story of an Hour in 1894, and finally The Storm in 1898. • 8. Essay On Myasthenia Gravis Myasthenia Gravis Damage to the neuromuscular junctions is due to an autoimmune disease called myasthenia graves. The motor end plates, which are located on skeletal muscles, are affected because there is a decrease in the amount of Ach receptors located on the motor end plate, which is connected to the neuromuscular junction. The decrease is due to the unnecessary production of antibodies, which bind to the motor end plate. This prevents Ach from binding to the receptors to carry out a synapse between the skeletal muscle and a neuron, leading to a stop or weakening of muscle contraction. The decrease in the amounts of synapses cause the skeletal muscle to lose function, become weaker, and tire more easily. Men and women are both at risk for developing myasthenia gravis, but the disease is more prevalent in women. However, the age of diagnosis varies. Men typically receive their diagnosis between the ages of 50 and 60 years old; women are usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40 years old. (Radoc, 2001) Although some players would have contributed less they are allowed to keep tokens or money amounts they did not contribute. • 10. What Is The Value Of Human Life Tick Tock. I cannot be late. My boss will fire me if I am late. Why does the world place so much value into the artificial construct of time? One of the reasons that time is so valuable is because we have a limited amount of it. However, effort, commitment, and beauty also possess value. How do we decide what actually has value? Certain aspects of reality, such as human life, intrinsically possess value, and deserve protection regardless of their individual personalities. Say a project is due in two weeks. There is plenty of time to relax. But what if the project is due tomorrow? Suddenly, time seems more valuable. The world gives extraordinary value to the little scraps of paper we call money. While the monetary value does not change, the personal value varies greatly depending on the perspective. These examples explain how the perception of value differs depending on quantity. Individuals living in poverty value their possessions and relationships more than the rich. Human mortality highlights the value of living life with a purpose, whether that purpose prolongs one s own life, or protects the lives of others. Life Boat Ethics discusses the value of human life by presenting the argument that, if ten people could fit in a lifeboat, then one should give up their spot for someone who deserves it more (Hardin). However, the article does not specify what makes any person more worthy of salvation than the others. If one bases value on the amount of time possessed, then surely the children are the most important lives. However, the elderly have gained experience and wisdom, both of which contain value. And what if the person given a spot by the sacrifice of another gives up his spot as well? This means that the first person s sacrifice was meaningless. How does one determine which life has more value in these circumstances? Museums and art enthusiasts spend a lot of money on works of art. Why are certain paintings more valuable than others? There are not a limited amount of paintings. Perhaps it is impossible to truly calculate value, because the perception of value differs between individuals. A critic would value a beautiful piece of artwork more than an average piece, and would consequently spend more money or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main objective of marketing is to identify trends and patterns in consumer behavior, and utilize the data to influence consumers to purchase more goods. From a macroenviroment standpoint, the general conditions of a market are heavily dependent on global environmental factors. The most significant factor that influences the markets today is technological advancements. Since the release of Facebook, Linked in, Twitter, and Myspace in the early 2000s, the number of people using social media has increased to over sixty five percent. The ever growing dependency on social media platforms, has given marketers the tremendous opportunity to further market potential consumers. Social media marketing is a specific form of marketing that focuses on producing ad content that social media users will post on their own networks. This particular marketing technique is effective because ads and content are created, based on what personal information users post on social media. Firms and organizations that advertise their brands on social media are more likely to increase their customer base and annual revenue. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart (para. 14). Linguistic diversity has become an important factor in society and more and more people are growing up with the ability to speak more than one language. The Linguistic Society of America (n.d) states that most of the world s population is bilingual or multilingual in the world, where an estimated 5,000 distinct languages are being spoken, and only minorities of citizens are monolingual (para. 1). Being bilingual means that a person is able to speak two languages fluently, while multilingualism means that a person can speak two or more languages with high proficiencies. In the United States and especially in the Washington Metropolitan area, a variety of bilingual people from all different backgrounds and ethnicities live together in one community, so hearing languages from all parts of the world is a phenomenon that can be witnessed on a daily basis. The time at which we are at school is thought to be one of the most critical times of our lives. It is a period in our life in which we start discovering ourselves and our sexualities.School is an institution that is thought to provide enrichment in all aspects, not just academic stimulation but also emotional maturity and psychological development.Sexuality education therefore has become a fundamental aspect of one s learning as it not only enables us to formulate ideas regarding sexual identity and gender but also allows us acknowledge ourselves as sexual beings. It can be argued that sexuality is not the property of the individual and is not a hormonally or biologically given quality (Epstein,O Flynn and Telford, 2003) but rather it is a socially constructed paradigm or notion that permeates almost all aspects of not just schooling but our society, both formally and informally. This notion of sexuality is ever changing and it is made dynamic by particular events in history that change our perspectives and priorities.By using my personal experience of sexuality education at Avondale College and St.Dominic s College,I aim to demonstrate the ever increasing importance of comprehensive sexuality education in New Zealand and show how the current curriculum very successfully promotes heteronormativity but often fails to wholeheartedly acknowledge desire, homosexualtity and teenage pregnancy. This failure to acknowlege key aspects of sexuality in schools has numerous consequences ...
