Latin Culture Influence On American Culture
I had the opportunity and pleasure to attend the Latin Cultural event held in the event center located in
the Cunningham Memorial Library. The event was sponsored by the language department of Indiana
State University and featured many different items to look at culturally. At the event, there were
statues, posters, games, contests, and presentations depicting the history of the Latin culture and
influence that the Latin culture has had on our modern society. Latin has influenced our culture in
every aspect including fashion, music, education, law, technology, and science, and the Latin culture
appears to be alive and well in today s modern society.
The main feature of the event was a poster contest and featured over 20 posters on display that were
made by the students. The posters depicted various aspects of Latin culture, life, and history along
with background and facts to explain how the culture has influenced modern society. After looking
through all of the posters I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was amazed that almost every reference to the law that I have heard of is taken from Latin. Terms,
for example, alibi, subpoena, mens rea, are all Latin and have been adopted into our modern legal
system. The second poster I voted for was titled The Gods of Rome and featured ten of the gods
worshiped in Rome. What caught my attention with the names of the gods is how we have used the
names in every aspect of our culture, from naming planets to spacecraft. The Apollo missions to the
moon are the most memorable to me. The other aspect is the use of the names in Astronomy, Jupiter,
Neptune, Ceres, just to name a few. The third poster was about Roman Chariot Racing. The picture on
the poster reminded me of a modern day football stadium, and the ancient stadium could hold over
150,000 people. According to the author of the poster, the entry was free to all who wanted to attend
and races were held every

Why I Want To Join The Football Team
Looking back to the days of my freshman year in high school, I recall vividly how I aspired to join the
football team but could not. I felt so bad but I did not back down, remembering all the great men of
this world who kept on trying until they achieved their goal, the likes of Thomas Edison, Albert
Einstein and so on. I made joining the football team my number one priority in high school.
My first year in high school ended without me achieving my goal and this only meant one thing to me,
I was not good enough . During the summer I found a football school very close to my house, I
quickly enrolled. Determined to get better I ensured I never missed a day of practice, making every
minute count.
Months went by, and summer came to an end. Feeling so excited and prepared I ran straight to school
and zoomed towards Coach Staggs s office, the assistant football coach as well as my world history
teacher. I told him that I would love to tryout for the football team, he granted my request but once
more I was unable to make the team. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

repeated itself, I failed. At that point, giving up already crossed my mind but them I watched a
football, it was the Texans against the Oklahoma Sooners and I saw how my hero, JJ, kept on trying to
do the best for the team, and at the end of the Texans were victorious. Using this as a motivation I said
to myself Just one more . The school year ended, summer passed away and I realized it was my final
year in high school and my last hope of ever making the

The Us Department Of Health And Human Services
The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) defines medically underserved area as
ranking low on a scale that involves physicians per 1000 people, infant mortality rate, percentage
below poverty level, and population 65 years old. 9 The HHS defines medically underserved
population as that which includes economic barriers (low income or Medicaid eligible populations or
cultural/linguistic access barriers to primary medical care services. 9 According to the American
Pharmacist Association, approximately 85% of US states have 61 100% of counties with medically
underserved areas. 11 28% of poor, 23% of near poor...[lack] health insurance coverage, which is
much higher than the national percentage of 13%.6 When reviewing the risk factors for vaginitis such
as lack of health insurance, tobacco use, lack of bachelors degree, Hispanic origin, etc., many of the
women suffering from the condition fall under the category of the underserved population as defined
above. This means that clinics with the purpose of treating underserved areas and populations must
have a heightened awareness of the prevalence and significance of vaginitis and must be interested in
staying up to date on the most efficient medical practice strategies given the patient population. There
are barriers to treating BV that add to the challenges providers face when treating the condition.

Nullarbor Plain Analysis
The Nullarbor Plain. The Nullarbor Plain is a karst landscape located on the border of South Australia
and Western Australia. It stretches across 200,000km squared. It is the Australia s largest karst
landscape and it is the world s largest piece of limestone. It is located 30.7678 degrees south and
128.9700 degrees east. The Nullarbor Plain is elevated at 64 metres above sea level. The name
Nullarbor comes from the Latin for no trees , but the landscape is covered in small hardy shrubs such
as bluebush that are drought resistant and salt tolerant. The Nullarbor Plain has an average yearly
rainfall of less than 250mm, so there are no streams on the plain. The small amount of rain that does
fall either evaporates or is lost to the limestone.

The Importance Of Mangroves In Australia
Mangroves are trees and shrubs that can be found along coastal intertidal zones in tropical and
subtropical areas near the equator due to their inability to survive in low temperatures. Mangroves are
found not only in australia but on coastlines all over the world and are distributed over 100 countries
in the tropical and sub tropical regions of the world. Australia contains the third largest area of
mangroves in the world after Indonesia and Brazil, totalling around 11,500 km2 representing
approximately 6.4% of the world s total mangrove area (Appendix A) (Mangrovewatch.com, 2017).
There are 73 different types of mangrove species in the world. 39 of these mangrove species dwell in
Australia. The intertidal zone or littoral zone, is the area that is exposed at low tide but is submerged
by seawater during high tide. Mangroves survive in salt water on sheltered muddy shores, because
they have adapted to the harsh abiotic conditions in order to survive in their area. Mangroves also
provide a habitat for marine organisms such as fish, crabs and yabbies. Furthermore they provide a
habitat for many land animals such as birds, pythons, lizards and crocodiles. How mangroves
contribute to the functioning of intertidal ecosystems will be discussed on this report.
Mangroves have a very important role in their ecosystem. Their niche includes protecting and
providing for many organisms. Mangroves are considered main producers in their complex food
system (Appendix B). The food chain

Bigotry In Hudson
Hudson, the perfect bubble in Northeast Ohio, is seen as serene and flawless; when, in reality, it s a
breeding ground of bigotry. This bigotry is not as rampant and explicit as the protests and riots we see
on TV, but it is slowly grown, like a tumor, noticed only by a careful eye. A debate in class taken place
a few weeks ago shows this perfectly. As our class argues about government imposed hiring quotas, it
became clear that the majority of the kids in the room wanted an all white workplace. They didn t
speak poorly about minorities, they simply implied that they were lesser than the dominant race in
Hudson, caucasian. This upset me. How can our nation move forward with so much hate fostered from
a young age? I had to speak up. Knowing

Mackenzie Mckee Of Teen Mom Three Argumentative Analysis
Mackenzie McKee of Teen Mom 3 is now under fire after posting a picture of her son, who is only 4
years old, holding up a gun while he was out hunting. Of course some people think it is fine to take a
young boy hunting, but most of MacKenzie s fans are not okay with it from reading their comments.
OK! Magazine shared all about what Mackenzie McKee s followers had to say about this new photo.
Obviously when MacKenzie posted the photo of her son Gannon with a deer after it was shot while
out hunting she didn t learn a lesson about posting this stuff with her fans.
The latest photo shows her son Gannon holding what appears to be a real gun. MacKenzie shared the
caption Don t worry momma, I ll put supper on the table. After that McKee used the hashtag showing
that she thinks she is raising him right by teaching him to hunt.
Mackenzie McKee s followers are going off now and are not happy. Many of them don t feel like a
boy should be holding a gun at such a young age. They feel like he is not old enough to understand
what it means to take a life and is basically just doing what he has been taught is okay. One comment
even makes it sound like McKee has lost a fan or two over this one.

Disadvantages Of Wireless Technology
No doubt, in last few decades technologies involved in the communication systems have been
developed exponentially along with attractive features and facilities. Wireless communication system
is one of the biggest inventions of the century and its developments can be processed in different terms
of generation having approx. 10 years for each one. At every step of each generation is to provide to
link with persons at every corner of globe with set of quality services. Today we are in Fourth
Generation; it is categorized based on its characteristic services and features like transmission signals,
data transmission rate, bandwidth frequency and nature of the services provided. First generation (1G)
is introduced in 1980, so each generation had been comes at the end of every decade. First generation
used analog signals, circuit switching and FDMA with 30 kHz channels occupying the 824MHz
894MHz frequency band .First generation supports only voice transmission .The data was not reliable;
there were interrupted communication and few other problems in First Generation [1]. Second
Generation (2G) technology was established in 1990, which used digital signals for transmission and
two digital modulation schemes TDMA and CDMA with circuit switched network . Second
Generation uses the existing radio spectrum to provide the services. It was developed to overcome the
previous generation s drawbacks, and to have data and voice transmission. But this generation also has

Russell Wilson Research Paper
Jaxon King Mr. Bergmann Senior English P1 1 September 2015 Russell Wilson Can Russell Wilson
be the best NFL quarterback within his first three years? Without a doubt Russell Wilson has proved
he is better then most hall of fame quarterbacks. By using his statistics, his win loss record, and his
super bowl appearances it will show why Russell Wilson is the best quarterback ever. Being a
quarterback in your first three years is hard to be compared to some of the hall of famers. Although,
hall of famers like Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, and Johnny Unitas had great careers, Russell Wilson
is the best quarterback in his first three years. Russel Wilson s statistics were more superior then some
of the greatest quarterbacks in history. Russell Wilson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joe Montana had a record of twenty one wins, and twenty seven losses. Terry Bradshaw had a record
of twenty two wins twenty six losses. Johnny Unitas had a record of twenty one wins, and fifteen
losses. Johnny Unitas played when a regular season consisted of twelve games. Do not let that fool
you because if you were to take the percentage of all those records you will clearly see Russell Wilson
has the best record. Russell Wilson won a total of thirty six out of forty eight games. His percentage
was he won seventy five percent of his games. Joe Montana won forty three percent of his games.
Terry Bradshaw won a total of forty five percent of his games. With Johnny Unitas only playing thirty
six games and only winning twenty one of those games. He only won fifty eight percent of his games.
The final way to prove he is the greatest quarterback to me is his appearances to the super bowl.
Russell Wilson has played a total of three full seasons. In those seasons Russell Wilson has made a
total of two back to back appearances to the super bowl. Joe Montana has appeared in only one super
bowl in his first three years. Terry Bradshaw unfortunately did not appear in any super bowls for his
first three years. Johnny Unitas like Joe Montana only appeared in one super bowl in three years.
Russell Wilson won one out of two super bowls he appeared in. Russell Wilson was also the youngest

Essay Comparing The Floods In The Bible And Epic Of Gilgamesh
Sally Moolchan Date: 03/31/2015
Evaluation of the Floods in the Bible and Epic of Gilgamesh
There have been various flood stories recognized from prehistoric sources dispersed around the world.
One of these flood stories we are most acquainted with in today s culture is the Noah ark, which
convey a remarkable story of how god punish the world for how immoral it had become. The divine
accomplish this by flooding the world and crushing all the living being, saving it for Noah and his
family and a pair of all type of creature that walk on earth. Based on the evidence available at present
time, people can debate that the Genesis ark story was based on the Epic of Gilgamesh. The themes in
these two stories, such as the assigning of animals and humans in the ark, the landing of the ark on a
mountain, and sending of birds to see whether the waters had move away, clearly represents the
similarity between the two. Although the main plot is parallel between the dual, they are diverse in

In both stories one virtuous man, Noah from Genesis and Utnapishtim from Gilgamesh is saved and
selected to build an ark or boat. In the Genesis God decided to terminate everything but Noah, who
was a righteous man, the one blameless man of his time and he walked with God . (Genesis 6:9). The
boat was built and was loaded with the righteous man, their family and all species of the earth. Noah
had become the basis of redemption for the creation of people in the future. He symbolized the
resurgence and a new beginning of creation. He is also the representation of God s sympathy and
refinement. On the other hand, Ea informs Utnapishtim in a dream that he must help the human
population survive. Together these men are the signs that God and Ea need the moral humankind to
survive not a wicked one. By doing this they give the human race a chance to

Native Hawaiians And Native Americans
When Native Hawaiians welcomed Captain Cook and his crew, they began a journey that would lead
to the crumbling of Hawaiian culture. After Captain Cook, missionaries continued to travel to Hawaii
to, in their opinion, help the Hawaiian people. Native Hawaiians were viewed as savages and were
seemingly given the best assistance from the missionaries. However, the help that the Hawaiians
received led to them being demoralized and hurt psychologically and physiologically. In order to
succeed, underdogs often need the assistance of others. However, too much aid from others can result
in the help becoming the underdog s Goliath instead of their savior. The Hawaiians, being thought of
as the underdogs by the missionaries, were given an overwhelming amount of help which led to the
missionaries becoming the Hawaiian s Goliath. Before Captain Cook stumbled upon Hawaii, the
Hawaiians lived in harmony with the aina, or the land. They lived by ahupua a, or strict land divisions
that respected the natural landscape. Communities were created around rivers and water sources. The
Hawaiians had a strict law system called the kapu. They lived with great respect to the land and
believed in demi gods such as Pele, the goddess of the volcano, or Mau i, who was believed to have
pulled the islands out of the ocean in order for people to live on the land. Peace and prosperity thrived
throughout the islands because people understood that each individual had an important role and that

John Winthrop s Influence On The Pilgrims
The Pilgrims trailblazed the way, the Puritans took initiative. In American colonial history, the
Pilgrims have been hailed as the first successful group of European settlers to colonize the United
States, however, few are aware of the pioneers who established Massachusetts and created a refuge
against the religious persecution of King Charles I of England. After Charles permanently dissolved
Parliament in 1629, the Puritans saw the king s imposition of the Personal Rule: a time period where
Charles ruled without recourse to Parliament, as a sense of hopelessness regarding their religious
freedom and many prepared to leave England indefinitely. In 1630 newly elected Governor John

Unlike the Pilgrims, who lost nearly half of their crew after the first winter, the Puritans flourished in

persecuting the religious theology of the Puritan people, led to creation of the Massachusetts Bay
Colony. Ultimately there was infighting within New England, which illustrates a domestic pressure
opposing viewpoints that were publicly expressed however the Puritans dealt with this opposition by
avoiding the problem altogether, through permanent banishment. Philip Ratcliffe, a servant, and Roger

just a few examples of people whose iconoclastic viewpoints against Puritan beliefs and values lead
them to be forever erased from the Puritan society. Thankfully for our modern America the Puritans

Comparison Between Chinese and American Food Culture Essay

ESLG 1001
29 November 2012 Comparison of Chinese and Western Food Culture Food is closely related to
people s lives and it is considered the most important element in Chinese culture. Chinese food is
famous all over the world too. American Chinese cuisine differs significantly from the traditional
Chinese cuisine and even though the variation in taste can be so it is still attractive to many people.
When it comes to food, Chinese people always care about the color, taste, smell and shape of Chinese
dishes. In 1784, a group of passengers on the ship Empress of China became the first Americans to

Grilling meats and spit roasting over a pit fire are both common even today. Americans use barbecue
smokers to cook chicken, pork and corn. Frying is the most common in Western countries because
almost every famous dish is related to frying. Examples include fried chicken, French fries, burgers
and fries, etc. Local families in America like to do baking, which is generally applied to breads,
lasagna, manicotti, pastries and other sweet confections. There is a big difference between Chinese
and American cooking methods. One is mainly concentrated on the color, smell and shape. The other
is always speedy, convenient and cheap.
Secondly, the ingredients in Chinese and American food are different. Chinese cuisine involves rice,
flour, beans, and vegetables. American cuisine is relatively simple and mainly includes meat, bread
and vegetables. For the Chinese one, most dishes include rice, because it is the main crop of many
Asian countries and is used in almost every capacity. Not only steamed rice, but rice paper and
noodles can be included in a meal. Second, tofu is often used in vegetarian meals, because it is high in

Differing Views on Reconstruction
By 1866, several distinct positions on Reconstruction emerged. These were divided into three
opposing camps: Conservatives (democrats), Moderates, and Radicals. The Conservatives believed the
South should be readmitted into the Union as soon as possible, but the Radicals and Moderates
believed there should be consequences for succeeding. br br The question of what those consequences
should be separated Radical from Moderate. The answer to this question was as related to how
important each side believed it was to enfranchise African Americans into this country (socially,
politically, economically, and culturally) as it was in exacting an appropriate punishment for the

Richard H. Dana outlined this theory in his 1865 speech when he stated We have a right to hold the
rebels in the grasp of war until we have obtained whatever the public safety and the public faith
require. This called for a military occupation of the South, however Radicals and Moderates disagreed
on the idea of land confiscation. Moderates believed that if blacks were given equal rights to whites
then they could slowly pull themselves up by the bootstraps and gain socioeconomic equality to
whites within several generations. Moderates also believed that giving blacks land would make them
lazy, this they said would lead to blacks not farming. Moreover, they did not believe blacks deserved
the land, because they had not worked for it. Most importantly they believed, that by confiscating
Southern lands and giving them to blacks, this would anger former slaveholders and thus make
Reconstruction more difficult. br br Both Moderates and Radicals shared the philosophy of racial
egalitarianism. Moderates and Radicals were staunch supporters of the 13th and 14th Amendments.
These factions united when they refused to swear in Southern Congressmen in 1868. This was a
defiant measure. At the forefront of the push for Johnson s impeachment were Radicals and
Moderates. The division occurred on the policy of confiscation. Radicals saw it as a way of giving the
newly enfranchised African American land to farm while the Moderates

envision of a great leader is William Bradford, an original passenger on the Mayflower, and the first
ever governor elected on what is to become, American Soil. William Bradford is the epitome of
somebody who never intended to become the person he became, never seeking out leadership, or
fame, he just wanted to help his fellow man live a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one basic respect, the Pilgrims are a logical outcome of the Reformation. This alliance was
dangerous, as Separatist were often arrested, imprisoned, even hanged for treason on the orders of
King James I of England. When Bradford and his fellow separatist heard King James I was intending
to harry them for the land , (Kelso, 2005) the entire congregation fled to the Netherlands. The refuges
lived in the Netherlands, first in Amsterdam and then in Leiden, and for a short time, were able to
worship in the way they believed in without government harassment. However, life Leiden became
extremely difficult, many of the refuges, including Bradford barley made enough of a living as textile
workers to support their families. Also during this time, The Netherlands are on the brink of war with
Catholic Spain. Pressured by the English King James I, the Dutch government began to harass the
refuges to the point of damaging their presses that printed the Separatists literature, to stoning them.
The Separatists had finally had enough, deciding to make a new life and a new home overseas, in a
new country where they could make their own rules and have the freedom of their religion without
prejudice or persecution. This decision is how and when William Bradford first started to show his
skills as a leader. Once the decision is made to immigrate to the east coast of The America s, Bradford,
now thirty years old, married, with a young

Four Religious Sects
During the time when Jesus walked on Earth, the Jewish people were divided into many different
religious sects. The four most well known sects were known as the Pharisees, the Sadducees, the
Zealots, and the Essenes. The major differentiating factor among these sects was their views of what
the Messiah foretold by the Prophets would be like. The Sadducees were the aristocrats of ancients
Israel, and filled the positions of priests and lawmakers. They also held the majority of seats on the
Sanhedrin. Due to their desire to keep their political power, the Sadducees were the only Jewish sect
that fully cooperated with the Romans. The Sadducees were also the most conservative religious sect,
believing that only the Torah was inspired, and rejecting the Nebiim and the Ketubim. Because of ...

Many of the Apostles were former Pharisees, most notably the Apostle Paul. Unlike the Sadducees,
the Pharisees believed in divine judgment, angels, and the value of spiritual practices. They developed
a very unique interpretation of the Mosaic Law, adding dozens of new laws to them. As such, they
believed that the Messiah would enforce their interpretation of the law. The Pharisees are notably the
only first century Jewish sect that still exists to this day. By far, the most radical sect of first century
Judaism was the Zealots. The Zealots were a militaristic group who on multiple occasions attempted
to stage a revolution against the Roman occupation. Their attempts all ended in failure, however, and
eventually caused the Roman army to destroy Jerusalem in AD 70. One of Jesus disciples, Simon the
Canaanite (not to be confused with Simon Peter) was part of the Zealot movement, and it is believed
that Judas Iscariot was also one. In keeping with their violent mindset, the Zealots thought that the
Messiah would be a great warrior that would lead them in their

Duchamp s Fountain
Duchamp s controversial art piece, Fountain, caused a critical shift in how the world views art. Many
beliefs were challenged when he tried to submit the piece to the Society of Independent Artists,
including the definitions of art and artist . From my observations, art and artist are entirely subjective.
Everyone seems to have a different perspective, unique ideas about what art is to them. To me, art is
altering something in some purposeful way whether it be recombining materials to create an image,
changing how we look at an object, or channeling and expressing emotion in a physical sense.
Because this definition of art Art is not something that can be easily defined; due to this, it is hard to
quantify what is and is not art. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A French artist received a series of cosmetic surgery operations with the idea of making her body a
work of art. In this case, who is the artist? Orlan, with the creative intent and design for the overall
outcome, or the doctors with the skill in performing modifications? In a way, they are both artists.
Orlan s art is the idea she has for her plastic surgery, the way in which she imagines it, the creativity of
her thinking. The surgeons art is the way in which they are able to take her ideas and put them into
being through surgery.
The original piece in question, Duchamp s Fountain, oddly enough is a similar case. There was
practically no fine skill involved on Duchamp s part, even less so than the child s drawing. What is
included, however, is a very unique train of thought. His decision to push the boundaries and question
the public s reaction is the form of art. Very few people would ve thought of that.
Overall, art is difficult to define. There are many different forms, and different ways of classifying it.
Art doesn t have to be perfectly constructed, but what it lacks in technique it should make up for in
content. It should have meaning. It needs to involve changing something in some way to possess a
purpose or portray a

Diffusion Of Western Culture In Bhutan
Title: Diffusion of Western Culture in Every Aspects of Traditional Bhutan.
The wave of modernization is inevitable. It has taken over almost the entire world. Of course there are
still countries that have been undaunted by the wave of modernization. Bhutan for so many years has
resisted the wave but the wave is slowly taking over Bhutan like countless other countries. The
diffusion of western culture in a country poses a great threat to its traditional values, beliefs and
practices. Bhutanese people work hard and buy things that have made their lives easier in many
aspects but this however has affected the country and the people are failing to maintain the traditional
values and customs. Western culture indeed has had an impact on the traditional values of the
Bhutanese people which inevitably are jeopardizing the country s traditional values and practices.

Impact Of Reflection On Student Learning
a. How did your lesson impact student learning?
What I taught them prepared them for continued learning on animal classification and prepared them
to start plant classification because the familiarity of classification as a whole. In my lesson I
incorporated a phenomenon discussion to get the students to start thinking scientifically by
questioning. I used a PowerPoint in order to focus the students attention and to visualize the topic I
was discussing. The use of the instructional model impacted student learning through being an
important resource for the students. The students had a reference to see how to convey information in
written form or how to write expository writings. Having the model allowed the students to be more
comfortable with informational writing and to be able to focus on understanding the content. The
prewriting graphic organizer was used in order for the students to be able organize their ideas and
know what they are writing about before they begin their rough draft. This impacted student learning
by helping them produce a better and more thought out writing. My plan was for the students to listen
to the book being read and be able to get the majority of the information from my reading, which was
also projected on the board. This was not the reality and the students needed the photocopied versions
of the book to finish their prewriting. This turned out to better support the learners by having that
resource available and the students were then able to

Alexsandro Palombo s Interpretation Of The Movie Mask
I have decided to compare a movie by the name of Mask, Alexsandro Palombo s interpretation of

for choosing these for comparison is because I believe at first glance they might portray a certain
feeling but as you look deeper the real (another) meaning presents itself. The movie Mask was
released in 1985 and is based on a true story. It is about a boy (Rocky) with a bone disorder called
craniodiaphyseal dysplasia. In the movie Rocky wants to go to high school however, the principal

Coors Case Analysis Essay
Coors Case Analysis
Michael Hernandez
MGMT 4513
Adolph Coors year of 1985 was a great one. All the sales were record high while everyone else s was
dropping. The significance of this was astounding since the beer industry was down all together.
People didn t drink a lot of beer but, Coors beer jumped by 13% during that time. This shows how
Coors can adapt with the industry and even though the industry may change Coors can still keep the
competitiveness up with other vendors. If Coors continues the way they are and stay on top of the
industry, they will be able to stay competitive and be the best brewing company in the United States.
There are many different types of beers such as light, premium, or super premium. Coors has been
able to impact all those different types and be competitive. They are able to satisfy all the type of beer
drinkers, and by doing this they are able to receive more of a profit by being able to satisfy all the beer
drinkers. By having distributors in the U.S. and Canada, Coors is able to hit many different markets
than other beer companies. This gets their name out to other countries and people will chose their
product over someone else because see Coors cans everywhere. By being able to have both of those

that all of their beer is from the clear Rocky Mountain spring water. Coors should focus on cutting and

Jumpstart Our Business Act Case Study
Introduction Before 2008, the financial services industry experienced record growth and companies
leveraged their portfolio to take more risk. One of the largest failures in financial services was the
2008 collapse and bankruptcy of 158 year old Lehman Brothers. Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch, and
Lehman Brothers had poor credit risks and loose liquidity requirements as did most companies during
this period. The difficulties in the housing market led to an aggressive number of mortgage defaults
and created a catastrophic scenario. The financial services model needs repair, and the enactment of
the Jumpstart Our Business Act (JOBS Act) signals a new era of alternative financing. Group Capital

Drunk Driving And Drunk Drivers
In 2013, 10,076 people were killed in drunk driving incidents. Out of those people, 65% (6,515) were
drivers, 27% (2,724) were passengers, and 8% (837) were non passengers ( Drunk Driving Statistics ).
Over half of those fatalities (67.1%) involved blood alcohol levels over .15% ( Drunk Driving
Statistics ). The legal blood alcohol content is .08%. Drunk driving caused 31% of deaths in car
crashes in 2013 ( Drunk Driving Statistics ). In 2012, 402 people were killed by alcohol impairment in
North Carolina ( Drunk Driving Statistics ). These numbers, though they seem astonishing, have been
cut in half since 1991 ( Drunk Driving Statistics ). Even though the number of fatalities has been
lowered, that number is not low enough. Most drunk drivers are repeat offenders. Lives are being
taken because of the careless attitude of the drunk drivers. Drunk driving is selfish; those who commit
this crime do not think about the extreme consequences of their actions. In North America it is
estimated that 1 5 drivers has been drinking and 1 in 10 is legally impaired on any Friday or Saturday
night (Root). Many groups, including MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), are fighting to stop
drunk driving. Unfortunately, drunk driving cannot be stopped. People will always commit this
heinous crime. The numbers may go down, but unfortunately there will always be a number. The only
way to continually decrease the amount of lives lost is to increase punishments for drunk driving.

The Homeland Security Act Of 2002
The Homeland security act of 2002, was a major reconstruction of civil services in the United States
of America, which had not happened since the passing of the Civil Service Reform act of 1978 (Brook

established. The events that took place during the September 11 terrorist attacks would once more
restructure the United States civil services. George H W Bush proclaimed in his state of the union
address, on January 29, 2002, Our first priority must always be the security of our nation (American

The Human Genome Project and Patenting DNA Essay
The Human Genome Project: Patenting DNA
The Human Genome Project is a global initiative to map the approximately 100,000 genes present in
the genome of humans. Planning for the project was started in 1989 with a proposal submitted by the
Office of Technology Assessment and the National Research Council. In 1990, the actual project
began under the joint leadership of the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Energy.
The goals of the project are as follows:
Mapping and sequencing the human genome
Mapping and sequencing the genomes of model organisms

The downside of this genome mania is high expectations. Current market values of life science
companies are very high. Companies are faced with a lot of pressure from shareholders to provide new
blockbuster therapies that will net those investors large profits. The problem with this mentality is that
research takes a lot of time and a lot of money (2). The fear of some researchers is that industry will
not be open with the results of their genome research, sequestering away nucleic acid sequences in
private databases, or tying up huge amounts of information in pending patents. This goes against the
original aim of the project which was to place all information gathered in free, publicly accessible
databases. Recent developments in the Human Genome Project only heightened these fears.
On May 9, 1998, Crag Venter, president of The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR), announced his
company was teaming up with pharmaceutical giant Perkin Elmer to sequence the human genome in
just three years (3). This news took the genetics community by storm. The original plan called for a
single, cohesive strategy to thoroughly map the human genome in a linear method. The new Perkin
Elmer/TIGR partnership planned to sequence the genome with a new method called whole genome
shotgun sequencing. By this method, DNA would be chopped up, sequenced all at once, and
supercomputers would be used to assemble the

Jean Luc Godard s Le Mepris
Le Mépris is a film distinct in Jean Luc Godard s career, for many reasons: amongst others, it was his
first foray into a more big budget, large scale production. Ironically or perhaps purposefully one of the
overarching themes explored within Le Mépris is maintaining artistic integrity, whilst attaining
commercial success. Nowhere is this better explored than the famous middle sequence: their extended
argument indoors. I aim to analyse this scene s depiction as not only a simple argument between
tumultuous lovers, but as it s symbolic exploration of their decaying relationship as a whole,
encompassing many of the overarching themes of Le Mépris love, ennui, and of course, contempt.
As soon as they step into their home, the door ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps this is really a subversive way to express the emptiness consuming their relationship.
Significant too at the beginning of this scene, is the way the camera follows Lucille and Paul. The
majority of the time they are framed in shots alone, only in passing does the frame capture them both.
Though they are inhabiting the same space, the choice to capture them separately is very deliberate,
highlighting the isolation mounting within their relationship as they start to grow apart; tying into the
existential theme that eventually, we all die alone. The vehicle of a failing relationship to depict this
existential dread is an apt choice; nowhere more is isolation emphasized than in contrast of it s
antithesis: once romantic love, the communion of two souls.
Paul seems engrossed with his letters, pacing around the apartment staring at them, never really lifting
his eyes to properly meet his wife s gaze. The letters are symbolic of his work his priorities now lie
there, and not his wife. For a second, Lucille seems to snap from a sullen mood to a more playful one,
and perhaps in a bid to grasp her husband s attention once more, she asks him to guess what she
bought today. When he asks what, and does not get an immediate answer, he reacts with irritation

United States, Missouri V. Mcneely, 569 U. S
Name and Citation of Case: United States, Missouri v. Mcneely, 569 U. S. (2013) Decision: The
Supreme Court attests. The Court noticed that its point of reference requests a case by case
examination when lower courts figure out if urgent conditions advocated a warrantless pursuit.
However, the State contended that exigency essentially exists in any DWI related blood test given that
blood alcohol content quickly decreases with time, the Court found no argumentation to embrace a per
se rule. The Court concurred that essentially postponing a blood test to get a warrant would adversely
influence the supportive value of the outcomes. However, it contemplated that when the state have
sufficient time to get a warrant, the Fourth Amendment obliges it to do as such. While getting a
warrant is unrealistic, the blood testing may well honor an exigency exception. Since the State
construct its contention exclusively in light of the proposed per se rule, the Court declined to detail the
significant elements courts must weigh while investigating exigency in DWI cases. The State Supreme
Court affirmed, relying on Schmerber v. California, 384 U. S. 757, in which this Court upheld a DWI
suspect s warrantless blood test where the officer might reasonably have believed that he was
confronted with an emergency, in which the delay necessary to obtain a warrant, under the
circumstances, threatened the destruction of evidence, id., at 770 (Missouri v. McNeely, 2013) How

  • 2. Latin Culture Influence On American Culture I had the opportunity and pleasure to attend the Latin Cultural event held in the event center located in the Cunningham Memorial Library. The event was sponsored by the language department of Indiana State University and featured many different items to look at culturally. At the event, there were statues, posters, games, contests, and presentations depicting the history of the Latin culture and influence that the Latin culture has had on our modern society. Latin has influenced our culture in every aspect including fashion, music, education, law, technology, and science, and the Latin culture appears to be alive and well in today s modern society. The main feature of the event was a poster contest and featured over 20 posters on display that were made by the students. The posters depicted various aspects of Latin culture, life, and history along with background and facts to explain how the culture has influenced modern society. After looking through all of the posters I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was amazed that almost every reference to the law that I have heard of is taken from Latin. Terms, for example, alibi, subpoena, mens rea, are all Latin and have been adopted into our modern legal system. The second poster I voted for was titled The Gods of Rome and featured ten of the gods worshiped in Rome. What caught my attention with the names of the gods is how we have used the names in every aspect of our culture, from naming planets to spacecraft. The Apollo missions to the moon are the most memorable to me. The other aspect is the use of the names in Astronomy, Jupiter, Neptune, Ceres, just to name a few. The third poster was about Roman Chariot Racing. The picture on the poster reminded me of a modern day football stadium, and the ancient stadium could hold over 150,000 people. According to the author of the poster, the entry was free to all who wanted to attend and races were held every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why I Want To Join The Football Team Looking back to the days of my freshman year in high school, I recall vividly how I aspired to join the football team but could not. I felt so bad but I did not back down, remembering all the great men of this world who kept on trying until they achieved their goal, the likes of Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein and so on. I made joining the football team my number one priority in high school. My first year in high school ended without me achieving my goal and this only meant one thing to me, I was not good enough . During the summer I found a football school very close to my house, I quickly enrolled. Determined to get better I ensured I never missed a day of practice, making every minute count. Months went by, and summer came to an end. Feeling so excited and prepared I ran straight to school and zoomed towards Coach Staggs s office, the assistant football coach as well as my world history teacher. I told him that I would love to tryout for the football team, he granted my request but once more I was unable to make the team. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The school year began and the first thing I kept thinking of was the tryouts. I tried again but history repeated itself, I failed. At that point, giving up already crossed my mind but them I watched a football, it was the Texans against the Oklahoma Sooners and I saw how my hero, JJ, kept on trying to do the best for the team, and at the end of the Texans were victorious. Using this as a motivation I said to myself Just one more . The school year ended, summer passed away and I realized it was my final year in high school and my last hope of ever making the ... This means that clinics with the purpose of treating underserved areas and populations must have a heightened awareness of the prevalence and significance of vaginitis and must be interested in staying up to date on the most efficient medical practice strategies given the patient population. • 6. The Importance Of Mangroves In Australia Mangroves are trees and shrubs that can be found along coastal intertidal zones in tropical and subtropical areas near the equator due to their inability to survive in low temperatures. Mangroves are found not only in australia but on coastlines all over the world and are distributed over 100 countries in the tropical and sub tropical regions of the world. Australia contains the third largest area of mangroves in the world after Indonesia and Brazil, totalling around 11,500 km2 representing approximately 6.4% of the world s total mangrove area (Appendix A) (Mangrovewatch.com, 2017). There are 73 different types of mangrove species in the world. 39 of these mangrove species dwell in Australia. The intertidal zone or littoral zone, is the area that is exposed at low tide but is submerged by seawater during high tide. Mangroves survive in salt water on sheltered muddy shores, because they have adapted to the harsh abiotic conditions in order to survive in their area. Mangroves also provide a habitat for marine organisms such as fish, crabs and yabbies. Furthermore they provide a habitat for many land animals such as birds, pythons, lizards and crocodiles. How mangroves contribute to the functioning of intertidal ecosystems will be discussed on this report. Mangroves have a very important role in their ecosystem. Their niche includes protecting and providing for many organisms. Mangroves are considered main producers in their complex food system (Appendix B). The food chain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Bigotry In Hudson Hudson, the perfect bubble in Northeast Ohio, is seen as serene and flawless; when, in reality, it s a breeding ground of bigotry. This bigotry is not as rampant and explicit as the protests and riots we see on TV, but it is slowly grown, like a tumor, noticed only by a careful eye. A debate in class taken place a few weeks ago shows this perfectly. As our class argues about government imposed hiring quotas, it became clear that the majority of the kids in the room wanted an all white workplace. They didn t speak poorly about minorities, they simply implied that they were lesser than the dominant race in Hudson, caucasian. This upset me. How can our nation move forward with so much hate fostered from a young age? I had to speak up. Knowing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Mackenzie Mckee Of Teen Mom Three Argumentative Analysis Mackenzie McKee of Teen Mom 3 is now under fire after posting a picture of her son, who is only 4 years old, holding up a gun while he was out hunting. Of course some people think it is fine to take a young boy hunting, but most of MacKenzie s fans are not okay with it from reading their comments. OK! Magazine shared all about what Mackenzie McKee s followers had to say about this new photo. Obviously when MacKenzie posted the photo of her son Gannon with a deer after it was shot while out hunting she didn t learn a lesson about posting this stuff with her fans. The latest photo shows her son Gannon holding what appears to be a real gun. MacKenzie shared the caption Don t worry momma, I ll put supper on the table. After that McKee used the hashtag showing that she thinks she is raising him right by teaching him to hunt. Mackenzie McKee s followers are going off now and are not happy. Many of them don t feel like a boy should be holding a gun at such a young age. They feel like he is not old enough to understand what it means to take a life and is basically just doing what he has been taught is okay. Out of those people, 65% (6,515) were drivers, 27% (2,724) were passengers, and 8% (837) were non passengers ( Drunk Driving Statistics ). Over half of those fatalities (67.1%) involved blood alcohol levels over .15% ( Drunk Driving Statistics ). The legal blood alcohol content is .08%. Drunk driving caused 31% of deaths in car crashes in 2013 ( Drunk Driving Statistics ). In 2012, 402 people were killed by alcohol impairment in North Carolina ( Drunk Driving Statistics ). These numbers, though they seem astonishing, have been cut in half since 1991 ( Drunk Driving Statistics ). Even though the number of fatalities has been lowered, that number is not low enough. Most drunk drivers are repeat offenders. Lives are being taken because of the careless attitude of the drunk drivers. Drunk driving is selfish; those who commit this crime do not think about the extreme consequences of their actions. In North America it is estimated that 1 5 drivers has been drinking and 1 in 10 is legally impaired on any Friday or Saturday night (Root). Many groups, including MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), are fighting to stop drunk driving. Unfortunately, drunk driving cannot be stopped. People will always commit this heinous crime. The numbers may go down, but unfortunately there will always be a number. The only way to continually decrease the amount of lives lost is to increase punishments for drunk driving. Current drunk ... • 32. The Homeland Security Act Of 2002 The Homeland security act of 2002, was a major reconstruction of civil services in the United States of America, which had not happened since the passing of the Civil Service Reform act of 1978 (Brook King, 2007). Over the period of 24 years, minor modifications of civil service reform were established. The events that took place during the September 11 terrorist attacks would once more restructure the United States civil services. George H W Bush proclaimed in his state of the union address, on January 29, 2002, Our first priority must always be the security of our nation (American Rhetoric Online Speech Bank, 2002, para. 28). The newly established Department primary mission is to prevent terrorist attacks, reduce the vulnerability of the United States, and minimize damages caused by terrorist attacks (H.R. Res. 5005, 2002). Accomplishment of the mission was through coalescing 22 federal agencies together, under the management of one department. An established chain of command leaves the Secretary of the DHS, overall in charge of the whole department. The secretary of the DHS, Appointed by the President, is the head of the department. The president appoints the secretary with the consent of the senate (H.R. Res. 5005, 2002). After the appointment of the secretary, the secretary takes complete control of the department. • 33. The Human Genome Project and Patenting DNA Essay The Human Genome Project: Patenting DNA The Human Genome Project is a global initiative to map the approximately 100,000 genes present in the genome of humans. Planning for the project was started in 1989 with a proposal submitted by the Office of Technology Assessment and the National Research Council. In 1990, the actual project began under the joint leadership of the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Energy. The goals of the project are as follows: Mapping and sequencing the human genome Mapping and sequencing the genomes of model organisms Data collection and distribution Ethical, legal, and social consideration Research training Technology development Technology transfer Originally, research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The downside of this genome mania is high expectations. Current market values of life science companies are very high. Companies are faced with a lot of pressure from shareholders to provide new blockbuster therapies that will net those investors large profits. The problem with this mentality is that research takes a lot of time and a lot of money (2). The fear of some researchers is that industry will not be open with the results of their genome research, sequestering away nucleic acid sequences in private databases, or tying up huge amounts of information in pending patents. This goes against the original aim of the project which was to place all information gathered in free, publicly accessible databases. Recent developments in the Human Genome Project only heightened these fears. On May 9, 1998, Crag Venter, president of The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR), announced his company was teaming up with pharmaceutical giant Perkin Elmer to sequence the human genome in just three years (3). This news took the genetics community by storm. The original plan called for a single, cohesive strategy to thoroughly map the human genome in a linear method. The new Perkin Elmer/TIGR partnership planned to sequence the genome with a new method called whole genome shotgun sequencing. By this method, DNA would be chopped up, sequenced all at once, and supercomputers would be used to assemble the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Jean Luc Godard s Le Mepris Le Mépris is a film distinct in Jean Luc Godard s career, for many reasons: amongst others, it was his first foray into a more big budget, large scale production. Ironically or perhaps purposefully one of the overarching themes explored within Le Mépris is maintaining artistic integrity, whilst attaining commercial success. Nowhere is this better explored than the famous middle sequence: their extended argument indoors. I aim to analyse this scene s depiction as not only a simple argument between tumultuous lovers, but as it s symbolic exploration of their decaying relationship as a whole, encompassing many of the overarching themes of Le Mépris love, ennui, and of course, contempt. As soon as they step into their home, the door ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps this is really a subversive way to express the emptiness consuming their relationship. Significant too at the beginning of this scene, is the way the camera follows Lucille and Paul. The majority of the time they are framed in shots alone, only in passing does the frame capture them both. Though they are inhabiting the same space, the choice to capture them separately is very deliberate, highlighting the isolation mounting within their relationship as they start to grow apart; tying into the existential theme that eventually, we all die alone. The vehicle of a failing relationship to depict this existential dread is an apt choice; nowhere more is isolation emphasized than in contrast of it s antithesis: once romantic love, the communion of two souls. Paul seems engrossed with his letters, pacing around the apartment staring at them, never really lifting his eyes to properly meet his wife s gaze. The letters are symbolic of his work his priorities now lie there, and not his wife. For a second, Lucille seems to snap from a sullen mood to a more playful one, and perhaps in a bid to grasp her husband s attention once more, she asks him to guess what she bought today. When he asks what, and does not get an immediate answer, he reacts with irritation instead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. United States, Missouri V. Mcneely, 569 U. S Name and Citation of Case: United States, Missouri v. Mcneely, 569 U. S. (2013) Decision: The Supreme Court attests. The Court noticed that its point of reference requests a case by case examination when lower courts figure out if urgent conditions advocated a warrantless pursuit. However, the State contended that exigency essentially exists in any DWI related blood test given that blood alcohol content quickly decreases with time, the Court found no argumentation to embrace a per se rule. The Court concurred that essentially postponing a blood test to get a warrant would adversely influence the supportive value of the outcomes. However, it contemplated that when the state have sufficient time to get a warrant, the Fourth Amendment obliges it to do as such. While getting a warrant is unrealistic, the blood testing may well honor an exigency exception. Since the State construct its contention exclusively in light of the proposed per se rule, the Court declined to detail the significant elements courts must weigh while investigating exigency in DWI cases. The State Supreme Court affirmed, relying on Schmerber v. California, 384 U. S. 757, in which this Court upheld a DWI suspect s warrantless blood test where the officer might reasonably have believed that he was confronted with an emergency, in which the delay necessary to obtain a warrant, under the circumstances, threatened the destruction of evidence, id., at 770 (Missouri v.
