Although personas are fictitious, they are based on
knowledge of real users.
‘Irma’ a math teacher from NL
                                      – Is looking for innovative math teaching
                                        approaches and content
                                      – signs up at ODS repository
                                      – comments, tags, rates and bookmarks
                                        educational content
e directly involved in the design process
                                      – becomes a member of the math
                                        special interest group
                                      – stays in contact over ODS
                                        communication services and social
                                        media
                                      – The ODS repository recommends
                                        peers and contents to her interests

‘Irma’ a math teacher from NL
                                  – Irma follows some of recommendations
                                    and get in contact with new people

                                  – E.g., she gets in contact with André, a

                                  – Together they improve an existing math

                                    become part of their group

between your clusters.

Gather feedback to further improve the ODS repository
but also taking into account your local constraints and
options

Step 1: Open the link

First of all, please click on the following link:
http://bit.ly/Crete2012

Step 2: Login

You can login by entering your email address and then,
click on “GO”.

Step 3: Start clustering
1. Drag an item from left to the white area in the middle of
the screen and give it a category name

2. Get the NEXT item and drag it either into an already
existing category (if you think it belongs to that) or create a
NEW category

Step 4: Keep going on!
Repeat with the remaining items, cluster items that belong
together.

Final Step 5: Great! You are done.
When you finished grouping all the items in list, the list
looks empty and you can click on “I’m Done!” in the
bottom-right corner of the page.

  • 10. Writing personas “Creation of an archetypal user that represent the needs of larger groups of users, in terms of their goals and personal characteristics.” (Alan Cooper) Although personas are fictitious, they are based on knowledge of real users.
  • 11. ‘Irma’ a math teacher from NL – Is looking for innovative math teaching approaches and content – signs up at ODS repository – comments, tags, rates and bookmarks educational content e directly involved in the design process – becomes a member of the math special interest group – stays in contact over ODS communication services and social media – The ODS repository recommends peers and contents to her interests 11
  • 12. ‘Irma’ a math teacher from NL – Irma follows some of recommendations and get in contact with new people – E.g., she gets in contact with André, a teacher from France e directly involved in the design process – Together they improve an existing math lecture from the ODS repository, the students really appreciate their new teaching concept and other teacher become part of their group – After a while, Irma is known for her fresh teaching style she has many contacts 12 within the ODS repository

  • 16. Websort analysis It is based on post-its clustering Websort is a computer supported approach to cluster single post-its / statements / ideas and discover similarities between your clusters.
  • 17. Websort analysis Question "What kind of support do you need to provide innovative teaching at your school?" Aim Gather feedback to further improve the ODS repository but also taking into account your local constraints and options

  • 20. Websort analysis Step 3: Start clustering 1. Drag an item from left to the white area in the middle of the screen and give it a category name 2. Get the NEXT item and drag it either into an already existing category (if you think it belongs to that) or create a NEW category
  • 21. Websort analysis Step 4: Keep going on! Repeat with the remaining items, cluster items that belong together. Final Step 5: Great! You are done. When you finished grouping all the items in list, the list looks empty and you can click on “I’m Done!” in the bottom-right corner of the page.

However one technique that has grown in popularity and acceptance is the use of personas: the development of archetypal users to direct the vision and design of a web solution.
