Vertigo Essay
Vertigo (1958), directed by Alfred Hitchcock, is an American psychological thriller film that
communicates ideas, themes and issues through the use of its visual style. The visual stylistic choices
enable the exploration of madness, scopophilia and feminist film theory within the film. This paper
will critically analyse how this is realised mainly through the use of the Vertigo effect , spirals as a
motif, the male gaze and colour.
The theme of madness is a centerpiece to the film. Vertigo was the first film to utilize the dolly zoom
or the Vertigo effect , an effect that is intended to create the perception of disorientation (Wollen 1997,
p.14). The effect is meant to be a representation of Scottie s acrophobia. It conveys that he is falling
away from himself or to suggest that he is realizing that everything he once believed in is not true
(Wollen 1997, pp.14 15). Hitchcock also used the effect in the climax of the film when Scottie looks ...

58). This has contributed to audience viewing the female body as an object. By the end of the film it
could be argued that Judy turns into a doll and Midge turns into a painting. When Midge and Madeline
get the rare opportunity in cinema to view through the male gaze, they appear to be depressed when
looking at portraits of another women as the realize what men see them as.
Hitchcock however challenges the male gaze in this film. In a key scene in the film about two thirds
into it, Judy has a flashback which reveals to the audience what actually did occur on top of the bell
tower. This use of a female character being afforded a flashback is uncharacteristic and not
stereotypical in Hollywood films at the time and can been seen as attempting to change the stereotype
of the male gaze (Wollen 1997, pp. 16 18). This challenges the male gaze due to the lead female
character not being seen as a passive object for the first time in the

Danforth s Madness Created In Greek Mythology By H. P...
H.P. Lovecraft hints throughout the story as to what Danforth witnesses as they leave the ruined city of
the Elder Things. Danforth when looking back, glimpses the ancient castle of Kadath, home of the
Great Ones and a part of the dreamland dimension, a place mentioned in old Pnakotic whispers
(Lovecraft, 69). Danforth s madness was brought about by the revelation of the existence of alternate
dimensions and the witness of the portal between these dimensions in the violet westward mountains
(Lovecraft, 101). Danforth s ramblings of observations indicate multiple beings and planes in the
universe that it is impossible to identify the source of his fear as a single entity. As stated in the
Cthulhu Mythos, Kadath is home to a race of gods

The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin
The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin is a criticism of today s capitalism by investigating what society
structure would be best for human society. Le Guin uses the two models of capitalism and
communism to be compared and contrasted against one another to determine which would function
better and how to achieve such success. In order to depict what a replacement structure would look
like; Le Guin creates two worlds to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of influence that each
of these models have not only on their society, but on Shevek, the main character. The planet of Urras
is a wealthy society, but all of this money is in the hands of the elites at the expense of those in the
lower, working class. Their power continues to be protected by state figures as they work hand in hand
adjusting society structures to benefit themselves and not every other citizen left into poverty. The
moon of Urras is Anarres which is a stateless society that is continuously stagnant and has been in
such a position for several decades. Although Anarres is described as the better world out of the two,
the subtitle of the novel An Ambiguous Utopia indicates that there are some downfalls to this
seemingly perfect society. This is a world of devastation with majority of their citizens in poverty and
forced to work in jobs that they are not suited for and ultimately hate. The working class is a necessity
for this planet to be sustained despite their bleak living conditions and weaknesses. Its

The Battle Of Leipzig And The Battle Of Leipzig
The Battle of Leipzig The Battle of Leipzig involved an exciting alliance that put into the battlefield
against Napoleon, close to one million soldiers. This is the most substantial number of Soldiers ever
assembled at this time in history. The battle of Leipzig is incorrectly compared to the campaigns of
Austerlitz, Borodino, and Waterloo. Similarities are the disposition of forces and how events unfolded
on one battlefield among two distinct lines of troops. Each line advanced towards each other, with the
cavalry making a critical decision to turn a flank or risk opening a line of advance in the center. The
infantry may exploit this action. The Battle of Leipzig was nothing like former assaults that were
decisive by day s end, and most resemble the apparent disorganization of vast armies and retreat
which were characteristic of much of the fighting in Russia just a year earlier in 1812. As this essay
demonstrates, the Battle of Leipzig is best studied by looking ahead at wars waged by complex
movements of mass formations. These formations consisted of allied armies whose coordination and
reliability increased or decreased in conjunction with the relationship between the generals and kings
or national leaders associated with them. The same proportionality in relationships became evident in
both world wars and currently in Syria. Napoleon s often debated decision to embark on an unfamiliar
defensive strategy at Leipzig led to his army running out of ammunition. In fact,

In order to implement this idea, Bradshaw created a rigorous workshop that entailed 60 employees.
The workshop focused on the concerns and solutions that could be utilized within the company to
improve its operations and quality controls. The workshop process began with the concept
explanation. A collection of reasons were presented on why the company had not been successful in its
customer service element. At the same time, these reasons were prioritized and split between teams for

input and additional recommendations for improvement.
As the transparency and team building allowed the employee groups to come to a consensus, there
were warranty concerns. Customers were displeased on the efficiency and quality of service provided
when appliances purchased from the company were in need of repair. The initial warranty process
proved to be timely and inefficient to overall cost for the customer. The employees last steps for the

Florence Griswold Museum Mission Statement
The Florence Griswold Museum is located at 96 Lyme Street in Old Lyme, CT. Florence Griswold
was the youngest child of a sea captain. Her father lost the family fortune by investing in boats at the
time when Connecticut was losing the boating community. This made them broke and in debt. Mr.
Griswold went and took out multiple mortgages on the house. Mr. Griswold passed away and Florence
Griswold outlived her siblings. She inherited the family home, and along with that home came all of
the debts also. Miss. Griswold had to figure out how to keep her home. She opened her home to

Hunterdon County Essay
Hunterdon county is a New Jersey is not known for much. It has about twenty seven towns and is
located in central New Jersey. There are no big cities or any sports teams. It is mostly a rural county
with tons of farms and woods. There is not much to do for the younger generation. Everything is a
good drive away. For me the beach, New York City, and Philadelphia are all about a one hour drive
away from me. Many people leave Hunterdon after college because they want to start their lives and
these maps are showing that many chose not to do that in Hunterdon. If you look on map one it is
showing the ages fifteen to nineteen. It shows that there are 331 teenagers living in Hunterdon. The

If you look at the legend the dark green has over a thousand jobs there and the lowest is under a
hundred. If you look at map four the map looks a lot darker but if you look at the legand the highest it
goes is under five hundred. This is showing that careers are extremely hard to find in Hunterdon.
Maybe all the people wanted to leave Hunterdon to find better jobs. For the towns that are really dark
in map four got hired right out of college and have enough money to live in Hunterdon but for the
towns that had a lot of jobs in map three but got worse in map four they could have found better jobs
somewhere else or maybe it just did not work out. I know from living there that it is not the cheapest
place to live. It is the fourth most expensive county in the nation and with college being so expensive,
people are not making enough right out of college to live in Hunterdon. The difference between the
two maps is insane. If you look at all four of these maps it makes sense that people all these people are
leaving. If you are fifteen you are obviously still going to be living with your parents and when you
just get out of college you will still live with them until you get enough money and have to move out.

Niyazov And Isolation
1984, is a book that was published in 1949 and written by George Orwell. His reason for writing the
book was the hope that humans would read it and come to a realization that our world was headed
toward a dictator like or tyrannical style of government. Some ignorant people living in first world
countries might say that he was wrong, but those smart enough know just how right he was. These
terrifying places are very much real in the world today. The people living in these cruel environments
are often times isolated by their leaders and told they are living in the best country in the world, and
that their reason of isolation is to keep the rest of the world out. The harsh reality is that these people
are actually being starved, neglected, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe it has to do with their early life, for example, Niyazov being orphaned starting from a very
young age after the death of most of his mother and father ( Obituary: Saparmurat Niyazov ). Perhaps
though, it has nothing to do with our upbringing, and maybe it only our internal hunger for power is to
blame. Whichever way that created a person as monstrous as Niyazov, definitely created something
huge. During Niyazov s rule he controlled everything he possibly could. Controlling the minds of his
people was his specialty. Forcing them to have the will to change their beliefs, their routines, their
individuality, was one of the reasons Niyazov succeeded in being one of the world s dictators (
Saparmurat Niyazov. ) Turkmenbashi put many laws in place of ridiculous nature, because he able to.
He named some of the months and days of the weeks after his family. Only six years after he had
become President, he ban smoking because after a major heart surgery he had quit. Other things like
music, dance, and long hair on men were also halted, simply because he did not like them ( Obituary:
Saparmurat Niyazov ). Niyazov also neglected his citizens. He starved worked his people to the bone.
Today, Turkmenistan is lead by a man who works in a very similar way to that of Niyazov. His name
is Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and he has transitioned the country to start favoring him over their
old great leader and they have begun to be recreate the country for the new President.
Berdimuhamedov has not changed much other than that though. He is running things in the same type
of dictatorship that Turkmenbashi left behind. The people in the country are still isolated, without any
freedoms or necessary rights provided to them. ( Saparmurat

Scrum Research Paper
Scrum Scrum is a framework for managing processes in agile projects. Scrum relies on a self
organizing, cross functional team. There is no team leader in Scrum, because team is self organized.
Whole team is responsible for the decision making and for the results. Also, here team is cross
functional, that is why meetings are very important to understand who makes what. There are only
two separate roles in Scrum: Scrum Master (kind of coach of the team, teaching the team to use
Scrum) and Product Owner (behaves on behalf of customer or user, supporting the team to build the
right goods or services). Scrum is defined as a flexible, holistic product development strategy where a

By studying a child and early year practitioner can spot any issues that may be present and make sure
that the child is given the best support should this require. The holistic approach is based to allowing
children to play outdoor and discover their environment, doesn t concentrate much to give memories
facts, and learning things by committing them to memory, by this practitioner can do a study and focus
on the development of a child and can see how each area is connecting to the others, this connection
of development can be seen things like language and how this connects to a range of others like social
development, reading, writing and play. If a practitioner see that the child is struggling with certain
things, there could be an influence on other areas of development, because as we know each area of
development are connected, and practitioner can use special screening programmes what can help the
to pick up any areas of difficulty that child maybe suffering. Speech, language and communication
development contributes to holistic learning and development: Child`s development must be seen
holistically as each area of development are connected with and affects every other area of
development. Personal, social and emotional development is linked with communication development,

Causes And Disadvantages Of Eutrophication
Eutrophication is the process by which an aquatic environment acquires a higher concentration of two
important nutrients: phosphates and nitrates in a certain environment. This promotes excessive growth
of algae on the surface of the water. Living things need some specific nutrients to survive. Usually
nature provides just the specific amount of nutrients, but too many nutrients can cause dangerous
problems to the environment. This is presented in aquatic systems.
However the problems can also increase when aquatic environments such as lakes or rivers have an
overabundance of nutrients, when this happens eutrophication appears. A Eutrophic lake occurs when
there is a presence of too many nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus that is usually as a result of
drainage from surrounding land. When a lake or other aquatic system becomes eutrophic, then we can

Essay Overview of Dementia
Dementia is a syndrome, which is usually of a chronic or progressive nature, which causes
deterioration in cognitive function. It goes beyond what is expected from normal aging. It causes
changes in what you remember, like appointments, or phone numbers. It may cause you to get lost in a
familiar setting like driving to the grocery store. You may not be able to balance your checkbook or
add up your points in a card game. Communication becomes difficult; as you cannot find the words
you want to say. Your personality may change, you may become paranoid, be crabby or short
tempered, and you may say or do inappropriate things or laugh when nothing is funny. Dementia is

Even though people with dementia can stay fully conscious, they have loss of short and long term
memory partially or in full. These people may also have difficulty expressing themselves or making
themselves understood. They may not be able to follow patterns or recipes even though they may have
hundreds of times before. They may not realize what time it is or what season it is. They may even get
lost on the way home from the grocery store. The majority of dementia is not inherited, but it depends
a lot on the particular cause of dementia. Some rare causes of dementia are inherited, like Huntington
s disease. This is an autosomal dominant disease, which means that only one faulty copy of the gene is
needed to inherit the disease (Living with dementia magazine April 2009 n.d). If someone had an
inherited disease and lived long enough, they could pass it on and it wouldn t skip a generation.
Dementia affects each person in a different way, depending on the impact of the disease and the
person s personality before he/she became ill. The signs and symptoms that are linked to dementia can
be understood in three stages. There are the early stages, middle stages, and late stages. The early
stages of dementia are almost always overlooked since the onset is gradual. The symptoms are
familiar to us all, like misplacing items, forgetting appointments not being aware of the time. As
dementia reaches the middle stage, the

Jack, negatively portrayed in comparison to Ralph, tempts the boys with an array of forbidden treats,
indulging their most violent, suppressed desires in an attempt to lull them away from the security of
Ralph. In a sense, Jack is negatively compared to Ralph throughout the novel, and is often portrayed
as confused and violent, very aware of the evil inside of him: The real problem that arises among the

of power is threatened and therefore resorts to terrorizing, threatening and essentially forcing the boys

The First Time Of The Second Time
For this essay I compared the first time I went to Massachusetts compare to the second time. The first
time was when I was 15 years old, the second time was when I was 19. When I was in 7th grade I met
my lifelong friend Caitlin. We did almost everything together. If you saw one of us the other was close
behind. When I was 13 years old, she and her family moved to Massachusetts. Both of these
experiences were completely different. I will talk about the pros and cons of both of the trips.
The first time I went to Massachusetts I went for an entire week I was only 15 years old my
grandparents drove me to York County and then I was picked up by Caitlin s parents and brought to
their house in Marlboro, Massachusetts. We had a lot of fun, but because of our age, we were limited
to what we could do. We couldn t go to the store by yourself. We couldn t go to the mall by yourself.
We couldn t do much other than go for walks that the place is only a mile away. Caitlin got me hooked
on Monster when I was up there so I had seven in one week and ended up going home with a UTI, and
my hair blonde when I was trying to make it light brown. When I was there it was hard because
Caitlin s mom was always telling her she needs to clean she need to watch her siblings, she needed to
do everything that her mom said and we spend the entire vacation cleaning and doing work that her

Bunch Vs Kant
In the history of philosophers there has been a major span of views and with that a large amount of
agreements and disagreements. From the 18th century until now for example four philosophers in
specific have had similar and contrasting ideas about ethics. Four philosophers that make a great
example of this are Immanuel Kant, David Hume, Friedrich Nietzsche and Charlotte Bunch.
First off, Kant is an ethical theorist that would be considered a deontologist, which is someone who
believes that an action s morality depends on the motive behind it. The other side of the philosophic
view are consequentialist, who believe that the consequences of an action are the more defining of the
action s morality than the intent or motive behind it. Kant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant believes that the someone Reason we shouldn t do bad is because it s irrational. To Kant being
rational is the very thing that makes us human. Rational thought is the one thing that separates us from
animals and is our biggest tool of being and existence. That being said, being irrational would be
going against the very thing that makes humanity human. That act irrationally in Kant s eyes would be
to act immorally and to act immorally is bad in itself. So as humans our duty to ourselves and the rest
of humanity is to act in a rational, moral fashion. We can achieve that by acting in a way that involves
what Kant considers universal law, which would be act in way that if everyone else in the world acted
in the same fashion the world would be content and a livable place. One example of this is the cutting
in line example, that if everyone cut in line then there would be no lines and everywhere you go you
would end up just fighting your way to the front and this type of society is unfeasible to will yourself
to live there.
Similarly, David Hume Believe we cannot be 100% positive about cause and effect relationships.
These relationships that our mind makes is an inherent trait of humans but Hume believes we can
never truly know if something is the exact effect to a caused event. Just because two events occur one
after the other our minds try to connect the two, but this process is ultimately just assuming that one
caused the other. In addition, because of this we can never definitively say one thing cause the other to

1 Avoid Chicken Pox
The only foolproof way of not getting chicken pox is to avoid being in contact with absolutely anyone

Art Analysis Of Henri Matisse s The Rose Marble Table
This formal and historical art analysis will define the color, composition, line, and values of the
revolutionary modernist painting The Rose Marble Table (1917) by Henri Matisse. Matisse utilizes a
modernist approach to this painting by presenting a minimalist approach to the placement of the rose
and the table, which presents a very basic color scheme. The strong lines of the painting define the
simplistic presentation of a sculptured object of beauty, which is nestled in various flora at the fringes
of the composition. More so, Matisse s modernist approach defines the perspective of detachment
from social norms, which occurred during the First World War. Matisse sought to present an
internalized vision of beauty that would not allow the horrors of war to impede his vision of beauty.
This internalized view defines the revolutionary focus of Matisse s work, since he did not allow the
enteral issues of the world to influence the subject matter of his paintings. In essence, a formal and
historical analysis of the revolutionary spirit of modernism will be examined in Henri Matisse s The
Rose Marble Table. In formal terms, Matisse s The Rose Marble Table is a presented as a two
dimensional style of painting in the modernist style of the early 20th century. The rose marble table at
the center of the composition is seen with the top of the table fully exposed, and the lower base of the
table that extends below it. This central positioning of the table provides a compositional approach
that makes the colorful values of the table come forth in contrast to the dark brown background. More
so, the placement of a basket on the table and few small fruits provides some evidence of depth
perception, although they are also presents in a very two dimensional style. In the background, the
black stems of trees and ivy vines provide a fringe accent to the painting, as ivy covers the base of the
table and is seen at the upper right side of the painting. These organic parts of the painting define a
more realistic presentation of flora, which contrasts the more two dimensional aspects of the rose table
at the center of the painting. This type of compositional arrangement blends the modernist shape of the
table as a

One Jacket, One Nation
When you think of FFA, you think of cows, plows, and sows, but it is so much more. Growing up with
a background of agriculture has tremendously impacted the way I have grown up. Both of my
grandparents raised horses, which invoked my love for riding horses. My maternal grandparents raised
pigs and beef as well which allowed me to broaden my background. I used to live on a dairy farm
where we bottled our own milk. I also help out on our grain farm, and I milk at a dairy farm. With all
of my experience in agriculture I knew that FFA would be a good choice for an activity to become
involved in. Since joining the middle school quiz bowl team in 8th grade, I have been heavily

The Necklace The Golden Touch And King Midas
Friendship and money is like oil and water. Money and friendships don t mix like oil and water.
People tend to put their wants before needs. This can lead to many bad consequences. Imbalance in
want and need can cause you to lose things important to you. An imbalance in want and need is shown
in the stories The Necklace , The Golden Touch , and King Midas. In The Necklace, there are many
examples of imbalance in want and need. The wife in the story is one example of the imbalance. The
wife loved money and had the mindset that you could only be happy if you have nice items. She
suffered constantly, feeling that all the attributes of a gracious life, every luxury, should rightly have

Charles Mingus Influence
Charles Mingus arrived in the jazz scene during a state of flux and his impact changed the way the
jazz was performed and composed from ever since. Mingus s strict sense of jazz traditionalism and his
willingness to experiment with his music led to the creation of many subgenres in jazz music. His
outspoken political views were also very influential subsequent generations of musicians and
composers . The music Mingus made is very tightly connected to the story of his life. After examining
both his music and life in greater detail, it becomes apparent how and why Charles has gone on to
become one of the most important jazz composers since the birth of jazz in the twentieth century.

This would lead to Mingus recording with Armstrong in 1943, which would lead to him recording

record his first record as a bandleader for the Excelsior label as a sextet (Santoro, pg. 57, 2001). Along
with the eleven songs he recorded with Russell Jacquet that year, he started to accumulate a reputation
in the jazz scene which would lead to him joining the Lionel Hampton band in 1947 (Santoro, 2001,
pg. 75). During his time with the Lionel Hampton band, they recorded Mingus Fingers which was one
of the first Mingus solos that brought him some recognition (Santoro, pg. 75, 2001). The solo featured
the use of melodic lines in his bass playing and deft double stops that helped the song become a hit in

The Fax Machine – A Constantly Evolving Technology...
Despite the availability of advanced modern day technologies for transferring documents worldwide,
the fax machine, a technology developed way back in 1843, continues to persist in homes and offices
even today. Considering the fact that this technology is more than a century old, it should have already
joined the telegraphs and pagers in antique shops by now. Surprisingly however, instead of going
obsolete, fax machines have continued to evolve, adapt and conform to the requirements of modern
telecommunications. The fax machine had already made its mark as an office workhorse back in the

Newspapers and weather services were the earliest users of fax machines for transferring photographs
and weather maps across the world. The use of fax machines was however limited because of their
expensive nature and difficulty of operation. However, by 1980, telephone based fax machines had
gained immense popularity because of their reduced prices and fixed Grade 3 standards of operation.
About a million fax machines were sold in 1988 alone, and they became the fastest selling machines
adorning homes and office desktops word wide. Fax machines proved to be of immense utility to the
Japanese. The Japanese alphabet has thousands of characters, and keypads can only afford a limited
number of keys. Fax machines provided the Japanese an easy way to transfer their written documents.
According to the American facsimile association, about 50% of all calls made in the 1980s to the US
from Japan were to fax machines.
Frank Vizard, contributing editor of the Popular Mechanics magazine, writes that increasing
popularity of fax machines blurred the line between the home and the office, as business documents
could easily be faxed to homes within seconds. People dealt with work related documents from the
comforts of their homes. Fax machines soon replaced postal mailboxes and reduced the time of
delivery of documents. This was both a convenience as well as an inconvenience, as people could no

Human Behavior And Human Development Essay
While the study of human genes is increasingly improving our understanding of human development,
it is not solely our genetic makeup that determines how we will develop. Humans as a species share
many universal traits, which make it easy to disregard the large influence the environment plays in
development. Throughout the lifespan, the environment presents itself in many different positions that
help determine and shape human development. By looking at the influence of the environment and
genetics on human development we are able to create a more holistic view of this process and gain a
better understanding of the complexities involved within it. Through this comprehensive lens, it is
easy to see how probabilistic human development offers the greatest amount of explanation, unlike the
predetermined views of genetic influence in the past, and that environmental influence has an
extensive impact on human behavior. Throughout human history, there have been many shared
processes and factors related to development. Evolutionary psychology is a branch of psychology that
has developed based on the idea that humans have shared behavioral traits. Demonstrations of these
shared human traits can be seen in fixed patterns. These fixed patterns, such as yawning and
attachment, are unlearned behaviors ever present in human development, allowing us to overestimate
the power of genetics on human development as a whole (Newman Newman, 2016). While fixed
patterns do have a largely

The Horrors Of Slavery And Through Fiction, By Toni Morrison
Beloved is not just the story of a ghost that came to haunt the living. Behind the word engraved on a
tombstone, there is the history and the memory of an entire people. With this novel of a new genre,
Toni Morrison delves into the horrors of slavery and through fiction, depicts the suffering and the lives
of her ancestors. Yet far from being a documentary, the novel raises the question of amnesia in
America regarding its own history. This is done through denouncing the excesses of a segregation
system, abjection and rejection, which lasted for centuries. Even though Toni denounces the hurt,
shame and pain, black people went through because of slavery, she does not portray that community
as a victim of history. This is much more than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This novel is based on a controversial subject: the plight of blacks in the United States since the end of
slavery, which still remains a sensitive topic even today due to the existing inequalities. On the
narrative level, Morrison tries to restore the voice of victims by giving them a folkloric dimension,
bringing them closer to their true roots. Toni s writing style is often epic, rhythmic, leaving the reader
breathless and holding him or her spellbound. She gives credibility to her characters, allowing them to
assert by offering them the opportunity to speak in some trivial way, the least popular and stripped
them of all artifice. She demonstrates that slavery denies not only the individuality, but also the
identity of the one who suffers it.
In psychology, identity is the awareness that an individual has of oneself and by the recognition of
others, of what that individual is as well as of his or her ego. It allows the individual to perceive what
is unique about him or her, that is to say, his or her individuality. The characters are the heir of several
generations of slaves. They just gained their freedom while their ancestors were the property of
someone else: the slave masters. Sethe was nineteen years old when she escapes from Bon Abri and
Paul D just a few years older. What were therefore the objects of self identification while families

Machiavelli’s Views on Government Essay
At first glance Machiavelli s writings could be mistaken for evil and satanic beliefs, but in reality there
are many good underlying points as to how to rule a nation. I believe that the New Yorker s
description of Machiavelli is the best example of his life and beliefs, because it not only touches upon
the high points, but the low points of beliefs as well. The New Yorker goes into great detail about how
Machiavelli came up from a mid level family to achieve a role as a government official/ ambassador
just to be thrown in prison after years of trying to stabilize and unify an unstable country through
means of war and fear. Machiavelli wasn t only a government official he was a strategic genius, but

For example, Machiavelli wrote about the young leader Borgia who conquered many nations in the
name of Spain. He explained how it was necessary for a prince... to work against what is merciful,
loyal, humane, upright, and scrupulous. . This makes a ruler look bad, however in reality what the
ruler does make a ruler look bad may improve the quality of the nations he is conquering and ruling.
Machiavelli wrote that Borgia conquered many nations, but these nations had weak rulers, who had let
the nations become over run with crime and filth, but once conquered by Borgia and his men were
brought up to a good quality standard with less crime and more peace and order, due to the
enforcement of Spanish law. That is why Machiavelli s misconceived writings were actually meant to
show that even though a ruler may look bad in people s eyes, his actions actually create good within
the nations he controls. A more recent example of a leader who would fit under Machiavelli s theory
was Adolf Hitler. Hitler was an extremist whose views should never be tolerated, but in reality he had
helped his people get out of an economic depression and improved the quality of life for many
Germans. What Machiavelli is trying to imply is to be a good leader isn t to be the most well liked
person, but to get results that improve people s lives even if you have to be seen in a negative light. I

The Anaconda Plan In 1861
At the onset of the war in 1861, plans were already being developed by both sides on how to defeat
the other in the shortest amount of time. The Union was faced with trying to defeat a secession
without destroying the Confederate States with the ultimate goal of returning the states to the Union.
One suggestion was made by the standing General in Chief of the U.S. Army, Winfield Scott, to
President Lincoln and later deemed the Anaconda Plan . The plan would not be put in action until

The Curse Of The Ruined Pretzel Summary
The author of The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel never actually says that Skidmore Boddlebrooks is

the author makes Skidmore seem really shady, in comparison to the jolly old man description of
Manchester E. Boddlebrooks. The author also describes the utter hatred that Skidmore felt for his
brother, potentially providing a motivation for Skidmore to murder his brother. Describing the bad

When a character is described with negative attributes, that character is generally going to be less
likable than a character that is described with positive attributes. Paul Haven uses this knowledge to
convince the reader that Skidmore Boddlebrooks is guilty of murdering his brother, Manchester E.
Boddlebrooks. While Manchester seems like the friendly old man archetype according to the author,
Skidmore is described as being a jealous younger brother that was generally perceived as being a bit
creepy. Using these vastly different character description, the author appears to show some bias,
believing that Skidmore is guilty of poisoning Manchester, regardless of whether he specifically states
this. Paul Haven specifies that Skidmore Boddlebrooks has a strong hatred for his older brother,
Manchester. This does much to make him seem suspicious in the case of Manchester s death. Not only
would this give motivation for Skidmore to poison his brother s pretzel, but it also adds to the fact that
Skidmore is portrayed as a very negative person. This makes the reader believe that Skidmore is guilty
of murdering Manchester, despite the author never actively accusing Skidmore of doing

The Battle Of Britain Is Regarded As The Most Famous...
The Battle of Britain is regarded as the most famous military engagement of World War II. The fall of
France in June 1940 to Nazi Germany not only left Britain as the only European power working
actively against the Germans but also left them vulnerable to bombing campaigns launched from
Northern France, having only to travel twenty five miles across the English Channel to reach targets in
south east England1. The quick surrender of France allowed German forces to direct their attention
towards Britain. Although Hitler had publicly stated a desire to negotiate peace terms with Britain,

The Battle of Britain marked a major turning point in the war, akin to the Battle of Moscow in the
east, as it was the first time the German advance had been stopped. Had Britain fallen to the Third
Reich during the summer of 1940, the repercussions would have been enormous. Hitler would have
completed his conquest of Europe; there would have been no possibility of an invasion on the beaches
of Normandy, enabling Hitler to dedicate more resources for Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the
Soviet Union. The invention of radar, known as Radio Direction Finding (RDF) at the time, by the
Department of Scientific and Industrial research in 1934 initially allowed aircraft to be detected at a
distance of thirty eight miles. By 1937, improvements to RDF had enabled it to see aircraft at a range
of one hundred miles, complete with the bearing of enemy aircraft4. The British recognized the
potential of RDF to be used simultaneously with other electronic and communication aids to provide
an early detecting system. The development of an early warning system was essential to the British
war effort due to the length of the coastline being so close to enemy occupied territory, with important
commercial, industrial and military centres well within the range of enemy aircraft5. An early warning
system also had two distinct advantages over traditional aircraft patrolling of the British coastline. It

In the article Snow Day, by Tabitha Walker, she explains the ways of how the snowflake s process can

because they need moisture to generate. When the temperature is freezing, the more heavy snow will
fall. If you want bigger snowflakes then you need more moisture in the air, if you want smaller
snowflakes you need less moisture and more freezing temperature. Another important factor needed
for snowflakes is ground temperature. Ground temperature is needed to be able to determine whether
the snowflakes will stick to the ground. Ground temperature is often more warmer because the ground

Comparing Devlin to Mill.
A Comparative Analysis of Devlin and Mill
It can be assumed that if J.S. Mill and Lord Devlin ever coexisted some intoxicating deliberations
regarding the role of morality in society would transpire. However, time has a peculiar habit of
erecting boundaries amid centuries, allowing us only to presume discourse between the contemporary
and the historical. Consequentially, each individual has an obligation to formulate his or her own
appraisal established through the logistic unification of the particular instant and one s own conception
of idealistic righteousness. But the acquisition of an infallible and tangible philosophy with universal
application would be as obstinate to create as it would to fathom. In such regard, the apparatus on ...

Moreover Devlin asserts that moral legislation is crucial to maintain a social bond. He maintains that
society has a right to protect its own existence by barring behavior that threatens that existence. This is
distinctly divergent from Mill s perceptions on paternalism.
Mill claimed that there must be unconditional rejection of paternalism by the state, only invalidated to
prevent persons from selling themselves into slavery. Reinforcing his case Mill argued that
paternalistic intervention is unlikely to work because an individual is acutely more aware of his or her
own needs than the state is. Additionally, he argued that it is improbable compulsion would work. This
can also be taken into account in the form of liberty. Mill alleges that an autonomous life has more
value than a life of dependency, since one cannot be forced to be autonomous paternalism has a
damaging effect on an individual. As a contemporarily relevant issue, Devlin indirectly delivers his
rebuttal to paternalism by embodying a stance on homosexuality. He defends societies right to protect
its own existence by vetoing behavior that threatens its sustainability, since homosexuality is
detrimental to society that union has a right to prohibit it. This is consistent with Devlin s definition of
tangible harm , described as a harm that instigates a diminution of the physical strength of society.

Should Henry Come Out Of The Closet Essay
Question: Should Henry (the 15 year old boy) come out of the closet and not keep his sexuality a
secret from his family and friends? Yes, I feel that Henry should come out of the closet. Ethical
Principle 1 (Rights): Sexual orientation is inherent in every human being. It is something beyond our
control and it wasn t Henry s choice to be homosexual. It is his basic human right to decide if he wants
to come out . If he does, he should not be judged as he definitely has reasons for doing so. He is
probably tired of hiding himself and what he truly is. Homosexuals are human as well. It is wrong for
society to place Henry as a subject for discrimination just because they perceive homosexuality as
unacceptable. Instead, he deserves equal rights ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People are judgmental and will discriminate when they can t accept differences. When trouble comes,
it is your family that supports you Guy Lafleur. In worse case scenarios where his own family is
unable to accept his sexuality, what more can we expect from the cruel society? It may result in Henry
living in self destruction and psychological distress. Addressing the negative impact: Since family
acceptance would mean the greatest, my suggestion is to put Henry s family through counselling.
Although it may be a long process, it will help change their perceptions and slowly accept Henry for
who he is. There is a need for society to learn to accept homosexuals. One solution is to increase the
number of counselling and support centres. By doing so, it encourages more homosexuals to accept
themselves, thus making it more socially acceptable. We should not stress over the way others choose
to live let people love who they love. Question: Should Jane (the wife and mother of one child)

Buettner How To Be 100 Analysis
In Dan Buettner s How to live to be 100+ TED talk, longevity and three major blue zones around the
world are discussed. The blue zones of the Nuoro Province, Okinawa, and the prairies of Minnesota
are the three focused on in the talk. Their lifestyles are talked about and it is made clear that there is no
secret formula when it comes to longevity. Not every practice of each blue zone is touched on because
many are societal changes that have been passed down and kept up for years and take about that long
to recreate in other areas. The three major takeaways from this talk as well as some credible online
sources are that fitness, friendships, as it relates to maintaining happiness and company throughout
life, and diet are extremely important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall the evidence supports the idea that having friends makes your life happier and helps you live
longer.
Diet
The last major reason Buettner uses in his talk that backs up longevity is a better diet. One approach to
eating better would be to try implementing the MIND diet which consists of increasing your grain,
vegetable, and fish intake, while decreasing the amount of red meats and sweets consumed. This
particular diet focuses on decreasing the risk of Alzheimer s, which is a major cause of death in those
over the age of one hundred (Health.com, 2016). Two approaches that are more permanent than
something like a diet that usually has a start and finish date are to have smaller portions of food and to
stop eating when you are eighty percent full. The way the Okinawan blue zone has made smaller
portions the norm is by eating off of smaller plates as opposed to our average american size plates.
Alongside eating fewer calories, a three thousand year old adage, Hara, Hatchi, Bu, created by
Confucius, reinforces to stop eating when you are eighty percent full before every meal (Buettner,
2009).

Themes Of Avatar
In the 21st century, movies present a platform for ideas and themes to be conveyed through a screen.
Themes of change, environmental crisis, love, and death are all only a few of the most common
themes that circulate through the Hollywood film industry. According to Annalee Newitz in her essay
When Will White People Stop Making Movies Like Avatar? , a recurring theme she s noticed is the
theme of white guilt. In her essay, Newitz depicts the movie Avatar as nothing more than a colorful
rehash of this (apparently) common white guilt scenario. This is where the main white protagonist
leaves the oppressive (white) side to join the oppressed native side upon seeing the error of his ways.
Some Americans, including Newitz, believe that movies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, when Jake Sully became their leader so to speak, he had already submitted himself to the
Na vi life and made sure to prove his strength as a Na vi, not as a white man. His intention at that
point of the movie was not even to take over as the tribe leader, but rather just to lead his new family
to fight for their land. Another white fantasy observation Newitz makes in her essay is that the white
protagonist always becomes the savior. This is hardly the truth in the Avatar s case. Throughout the
film, Jake is rescued by Neytiri and the Na vi numerous times. Even after the final battle is over, it is
Neytiri who saves his life when he begins to suffocate in his human form. Also, rather than Jake
saving the day during the final battle, the film focuses on the fact that Jake is unable to combat the
opposing side single handedly, and can only succeed with the aid of his Na vi brethren. In other words,
rather than the white man saving the day, it was the teamwork of his native friends that made the win
possible. Admittedly, the start of the movie illustrates the concept of one species (the humans)
infiltrating another s (The Navi s) homeland. This was purposeful, as the producer James Cameron
wanted to represent the way Europeans invaded Native American lands many years ago. However, this
historical correlation was not created based on racial matters, but rather to show the negative effects of
imperialism. James Cameron told The

Argumentative Essay On Tax Reform
A country s tax code is the government document which details the rules and methods by which
citizens of a state must give a portion of their salary to their state s government. The United States tax
code is currently 74,608 pages long with over 2 million words. The main source of tax related
problems is the fact that the tax code itself is so complicated that is is no longer efficient. The Tax
Foundation predicts that Americans will spend nearly 9 billion hours filing their taxes this year. This
should be cause for alarm such a complicated tax code is impossible to work with and destined to only
get worse, and the call for a complete reform is now greater than ever. Unfortunately, attempted tax
reform proposals from the last 30 years have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
has yet to come to consensus on how to reform its tax code is thanks to the contrasting ideas of
Congress the extreme split amongst Republican and Democratic parties in regards to tax reform is
what keeps proposals from getting passed. Congress instead tends to favor the smaller proposals that
satisfy both sides but in the end, do little to improve the current situation. In the midst of a divided
Congress the American people do what they can to have their voices heard aside from selecting their
own Congressional representatives there are many programs and societies established with the goal of
spreading the knowledge and support for certain proposals. Americans for Tax Reform, Citizens for
Tax Justice, and Americans for Fair Taxation are three of many these groups advocate wildly different
ideas, but are dedicated to spreading the word and eventually causing a complete reform of the tax
code. Members of such organizations often endorse specific political parties with the hopes of having
their proposals carried into the White House and eventually passed. Whether they have been
successful remains to be seen, but such groups provide ways for American citizens to have their
thoughts and demands in regards to the taxes they pay heard, instead of it lying entirely in the hands of

Sir Ernest Shackleton s Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition
Sir Ernest Shackleton was a courageous and bold man; here are a few things about him. He knew all
about the weather in Antarctica. Also, he was the first one ever to come into a 100 mile radius of
Antarctica. He was as famous as famous could be, and was a hero to thousands who read his book
Furthest South expedition. He was also the leader of the Imperial Trans Antarctic Expedition, and
before he set out on the Endurance he had already been to the Antarctic twice. There was a race to the
South Pole and Shackleton just had to win it. But, Shackleton s attempt abruptly came to a stop
because he was thrown back by terrible weather conditions, weather conditions 20 times worse than
Michigan s winter. The prize went to Amundsen on December 14,

The Use Of A Computer Or Itc System
Ransomware is a malware that restricts the use of a computer or ITC system, displays a message on a
computer screen that states the system has been locked or encrypted and that the only way to re gain
the use of the computer or system is through the payment of a ransom which is often $200 $400
(United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team, 2016). This type of attack can install other
malware as users attempt to click out of the message screen or to follow the directions which tell the
user to click here to pay the ransom. Victims may pay the cybercriminal in Bitcoin and re gain the use
of their computer or system. Some victims pay and do not get their use back while others choose not
to pay but must suffer through downtime and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ransomware is often perpetrated by gangs and other criminals outside the U.S. making it very
difficult to locate and prosecute those involved. The incidents of ransomware are expected to increase
throughout 2017. Experts believe that smartphones and organizations using cloud based data storage
will be targeted. McAfee Labs sees mobile malware continuing its growth in 2017, with ransomware,
banking Trojans, and remote access tools among the leading threats (McAfee Labs, 2017).
Smartphones are used by a high percentage of the population in their personal lives and many use
them as part of their employment. If a hacker or hacker group were to extract the cell phone numbers
or email addresses of FBI agents they may be able to lock several devices prior to detection or extract
information from their phone. Data Breaches In 2016 Cyber criminals continued to hack into company
and government databases to extract personal and propriety information (PPI). Many different modes
of operation were likely used to penetrate the ICT systems and in many incidents it is unknown if the
hacker wished to gain financially or embarrass the target into providing better cybersecurity to prevent
the information from falling into the hands of someone who could do a great deal of damage with the
data gained. The following is a list of the most notable: A hacker known as @DOTGOVS on Twitter

  • 2. Vertigo Essay Vertigo (1958), directed by Alfred Hitchcock, is an American psychological thriller film that communicates ideas, themes and issues through the use of its visual style. The visual stylistic choices enable the exploration of madness, scopophilia and feminist film theory within the film. This paper will critically analyse how this is realised mainly through the use of the Vertigo effect , spirals as a motif, the male gaze and colour. The theme of madness is a centerpiece to the film. Vertigo was the first film to utilize the dolly zoom or the Vertigo effect , an effect that is intended to create the perception of disorientation (Wollen 1997, p.14). The effect is meant to be a representation of Scottie s acrophobia. It conveys that he is falling away from himself or to suggest that he is realizing that everything he once believed in is not true (Wollen 1997, pp.14 15). Hitchcock also used the effect in the climax of the film when Scottie looks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 58). This has contributed to audience viewing the female body as an object. By the end of the film it could be argued that Judy turns into a doll and Midge turns into a painting. When Midge and Madeline get the rare opportunity in cinema to view through the male gaze, they appear to be depressed when looking at portraits of another women as the realize what men see them as. Hitchcock however challenges the male gaze in this film. In a key scene in the film about two thirds into it, Judy has a flashback which reveals to the audience what actually did occur on top of the bell tower. This use of a female character being afforded a flashback is uncharacteristic and not stereotypical in Hollywood films at the time and can been seen as attempting to change the stereotype of the male gaze (Wollen 1997, pp. 16 18). This challenges the male gaze due to the lead female character not being seen as a passive object for the first time in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Danforth s Madness Created In Greek Mythology By H. P... H.P. Lovecraft hints throughout the story as to what Danforth witnesses as they leave the ruined city of the Elder Things. Danforth when looking back, glimpses the ancient castle of Kadath, home of the Great Ones and a part of the dreamland dimension, a place mentioned in old Pnakotic whispers (Lovecraft, 69). Danforth s madness was brought about by the revelation of the existence of alternate dimensions and the witness of the portal between these dimensions in the violet westward mountains (Lovecraft, 101). Danforth s ramblings of observations indicate multiple beings and planes in the universe that it is impossible to identify the source of his fear as a single entity. • 4. The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin is a criticism of today s capitalism by investigating what society structure would be best for human society. Le Guin uses the two models of capitalism and communism to be compared and contrasted against one another to determine which would function better and how to achieve such success. In order to depict what a replacement structure would look like; Le Guin creates two worlds to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of influence that each of these models have not only on their society, but on Shevek, the main character. The planet of Urras is a wealthy society, but all of this money is in the hands of the elites at the expense of those in the lower, working class. Their power continues to be protected by state figures as they work hand in hand adjusting society structures to benefit themselves and not every other citizen left into poverty. The moon of Urras is Anarres which is a stateless society that is continuously stagnant and has been in such a position for several decades. Although Anarres is described as the better world out of the two, the subtitle of the novel An Ambiguous Utopia indicates that there are some downfalls to this seemingly perfect society. This is a world of devastation with majority of their citizens in poverty and forced to work in jobs that they are not suited for and ultimately hate. The working class is a necessity for this planet to be sustained despite their bleak living conditions and weaknesses. Its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Battle Of Leipzig And The Battle Of Leipzig The Battle of Leipzig The Battle of Leipzig involved an exciting alliance that put into the battlefield against Napoleon, close to one million soldiers. This is the most substantial number of Soldiers ever assembled at this time in history. The battle of Leipzig is incorrectly compared to the campaigns of Austerlitz, Borodino, and Waterloo. Similarities are the disposition of forces and how events unfolded on one battlefield among two distinct lines of troops. Each line advanced towards each other, with the cavalry making a critical decision to turn a flank or risk opening a line of advance in the center. The infantry may exploit this action. The Battle of Leipzig was nothing like former assaults that were decisive by day s end, and most resemble the apparent disorganization of vast armies and retreat which were characteristic of much of the fighting in Russia just a year earlier in 1812. As this essay demonstrates, the Battle of Leipzig is best studied by looking ahead at wars waged by complex movements of mass formations. These formations consisted of allied armies whose coordination and reliability increased or decreased in conjunction with the relationship between the generals and kings or national leaders associated with them. The same proportionality in relationships became evident in both world wars and currently in Syria. Napoleon s often debated decision to embark on an unfamiliar defensive strategy at Leipzig led to his army running out of ammunition. In fact, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maybe all the people wanted to leave Hunterdon to find better jobs. I know from living there that it is not the cheapest place to live. It is the fourth most expensive county in the nation and with college being so expensive, people are not making enough right out of college to live in Hunterdon. The difference between the two maps is insane. If you look at all four of these maps it makes sense that people all these people are leaving. Causes And Disadvantages Of Eutrophication Eutrophication is the process by which an aquatic environment acquires a higher concentration of two important nutrients: phosphates and nitrates in a certain environment. This promotes excessive growth of algae on the surface of the water. Living things need some specific nutrients to survive. Usually nature provides just the specific amount of nutrients, but too many nutrients can cause dangerous problems to the environment. This is presented in aquatic systems. However the problems can also increase when aquatic environments such as lakes or rivers have an overabundance of nutrients, when this happens eutrophication appears. It goes beyond what is expected from normal aging. It causes changes in what you remember, like appointments, or phone numbers. It may cause you to get lost in a familiar setting like driving to the grocery store. You may not be able to balance your checkbook or add up your points in a card game. Communication becomes difficult; as you cannot find the words you want to say. Your personality may change, you may become paranoid, be crabby or short tempered, and you may say or do inappropriate things or laugh when nothing is funny. Even though people with dementia can stay fully conscious, they have loss of short and long term memory partially or in full. These people may also have difficulty expressing themselves or making themselves understood. They may not be able to follow patterns or recipes even though they may have hundreds of times before. They may not realize what time it is or what season it is. They may even get lost on the way home from the grocery store. The majority of dementia is not inherited, but it depends a lot on the particular cause of dementia. Some rare causes of dementia are inherited, like Huntington s disease. This is an autosomal dominant disease, which means that only one faulty copy of the gene is needed to inherit the disease (Living with dementia magazine April 2009 n.d). If someone had an inherited disease and lived long enough, they could pass it on and it wouldn t skip a generation. Dementia affects each person in a different way, depending on the impact of the disease and the person s personality before he/she became ill. The signs and symptoms that are linked to dementia can be understood in three stages. There are the early stages, middle stages, and late stages. The early stages of dementia are almost always overlooked since the onset is gradual. The symptoms are familiar to us all, like misplacing items, forgetting appointments not being aware of the time. Once these boys join Jack s tribe, they are forced to follow his orders, committing heinous atrocities against their former friends in a desperate attempt to avoid the physical punishment Jack inflicts on those who disobey him. Jack rules his subjects through fear and intimidation, and yet lures them in by playing on hidden desires unbeknownst to them. The first time was when I was 15 years old, the second time was when I was 19. When I was in 7th grade I met my lifelong friend Caitlin. We did almost everything together. If you saw one of us the other was close behind. When I was 13 years old, she and her family moved to Massachusetts. Both of these experiences were completely different. I will talk about the pros and cons of both of the trips. The first time I went to Massachusetts I went for an entire week I was only 15 years old my grandparents drove me to York County and then I was picked up by Caitlin s parents and brought to their house in Marlboro, Massachusetts. We had a lot of fun, but because of our age, we were limited to what we could do. We couldn t go to the store by yourself. We couldn t go to the mall by yourself. We couldn t do much other than go for walks that the place is only a mile away. Caitlin got me hooked on Monster when I was up there so I had seven in one week and ended up going home with a UTI, and my hair blonde when I was trying to make it light brown. When I was there it was hard because Caitlin s mom was always telling her she needs to clean she need to watch her siblings, she needed to do everything that her mom said and we spend the entire vacation cleaning and doing work that her mom wanted. Those were all the cons. The pros of the trip was that I got to see her and got to spend the ride ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Bunch Vs Kant In the history of philosophers there has been a major span of views and with that a large amount of agreements and disagreements. From the 18th century until now for example four philosophers in specific have had similar and contrasting ideas about ethics. Four philosophers that make a great example of this are Immanuel Kant, David Hume, Friedrich Nietzsche and Charlotte Bunch. First off, Kant is an ethical theorist that would be considered a deontologist, which is someone who believes that an action s morality depends on the motive behind it. The other side of the philosophic view are consequentialist, who believe that the consequences of an action are the more defining of the action s morality than the intent or motive behind it. Rational thought is the one thing that separates us from animals and is our biggest tool of being and existence. That being said, being irrational would be going against the very thing that makes humanity human. That act irrationally in Kant s eyes would be to act immorally and to act immorally is bad in itself. So as humans our duty to ourselves and the rest of humanity is to act in a rational, moral fashion. We can achieve that by acting in a way that involves what Kant considers universal law, which would be act in way that if everyone else in the world acted in the same fashion the world would be content and a livable place. One example of this is the cutting in line example, that if everyone cut in line then there would be no lines and everywhere you go you would end up just fighting your way to the front and this type of society is unfeasible to will yourself to live there. Similarly, David Hume Believe we cannot be 100% positive about cause and effect relationships. These relationships that our mind makes is an inherent trait of humans but Hume believes we can never truly know if something is the exact effect to a caused event. Just because two events occur one after the other our minds try to connect the two, but this process is ultimately just assuming that one caused the other. • 20. Art Analysis Of Henri Matisse s The Rose Marble Table This formal and historical art analysis will define the color, composition, line, and values of the revolutionary modernist painting The Rose Marble Table (1917) by Henri Matisse. Matisse utilizes a modernist approach to this painting by presenting a minimalist approach to the placement of the rose and the table, which presents a very basic color scheme. The strong lines of the painting define the simplistic presentation of a sculptured object of beauty, which is nestled in various flora at the fringes of the composition. More so, Matisse s modernist approach defines the perspective of detachment from social norms, which occurred during the First World War. Matisse sought to present an internalized vision of beauty that would not allow the horrors of war to impede his vision of beauty. This internalized view defines the revolutionary focus of Matisse s work, since he did not allow the enteral issues of the world to influence the subject matter of his paintings. In essence, a formal and historical analysis of the revolutionary spirit of modernism will be examined in Henri Matisse s The Rose Marble Table. In formal terms, Matisse s The Rose Marble Table is a presented as a two dimensional style of painting in the modernist style of the early 20th century. The rose marble table at the center of the composition is seen with the top of the table fully exposed, and the lower base of the table that extends below it. This central positioning of the table provides a compositional approach that makes the colorful values of the table come forth in contrast to the dark brown background. More so, the placement of a basket on the table and few small fruits provides some evidence of depth perception, although they are also presents in a very two dimensional style. In the background, the black stems of trees and ivy vines provide a fringe accent to the painting, as ivy covers the base of the table and is seen at the upper right side of the painting. These organic parts of the painting define a more realistic presentation of flora, which contrasts the more two dimensional aspects of the rose table at the center of the painting. This type of compositional arrangement blends the modernist shape of the table as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Human Behavior And Human Development Essay While the study of human genes is increasingly improving our understanding of human development, it is not solely our genetic makeup that determines how we will develop. Humans as a species share many universal traits, which make it easy to disregard the large influence the environment plays in development. Throughout the lifespan, the environment presents itself in many different positions that help determine and shape human development. By looking at the influence of the environment and genetics on human development we are able to create a more holistic view of this process and gain a better understanding of the complexities involved within it. Through this comprehensive lens, it is easy to see how probabilistic human development offers the greatest amount of explanation, unlike the predetermined views of genetic influence in the past, and that environmental influence has an extensive impact on human behavior. Throughout human history, there have been many shared processes and factors related to development. Evolutionary psychology is a branch of psychology that has developed based on the idea that humans have shared behavioral traits. Demonstrations of these shared human traits can be seen in fixed patterns. These fixed patterns, such as yawning and attachment, are unlearned behaviors ever present in human development, allowing us to overestimate the power of genetics on human development as a whole (Newman Newman, 2016). • 36. Dr Strangelove Analysis The movie Dr. Strangelove is a comedic movie but the issius it brings to light were very serious at the time and issues concerning nuclear war are still very present in our lives today. The cold war was a scary time for the world people and it s speculated to be the closest humankind has ever come to becoming obsolete. There was lots of fear and suspension expression in the movie and that was similar to how it was in real life during the cold war. Although there are some ridiculous aspects of the film Dr. Strangelove it underlines something that could have happened extremely easily during this time. In Dr. Strangelove the world is at the brink of becoming completely decimated by the USSR s and the United states nuclear arsenals. When watching the movie you may find some parts of it ridiculous but most of the movie is accurate to what was going on in our military and government at this time just made more dramatic. At this time the lives of millions were in the hands of just a few men high up in the military and government. Any wrong action or statement by them could end up starting a nuclear war. It s not crazy to think that one rouge commander under all the stress and suspicion going on from the red scare would order an attack on the USSR during this time. There was a lot of conspiracies going around about communist schemes to infect the united states such as the one that putting fluoride in the water was a way the communists were attacking the USA. Yes, I feel that Henry should come out of the closet. Ethical Principle 1 (Rights): Sexual orientation is inherent in every human being. It is something beyond our control and it wasn t Henry s choice to be homosexual. It is his basic human right to decide if he wants to come out . If he does, he should not be judged as he definitely has reasons for doing so. He is probably tired of hiding himself and what he truly is. Homosexuals are human as well. Addressing the negative impact: Since family acceptance would mean the greatest, my suggestion is to put Henry s family through counselling. Although it may be a long process, it will help change their perceptions and slowly accept Henry for who he is. There is a need for society to learn to accept homosexuals. One solution is to increase the number of counselling and support centres. By doing so, it encourages more homosexuals to accept themselves, thus making it more socially acceptable. Their lifestyles are talked about and it is made clear that there is no secret formula when it comes to longevity. Not every practice of each blue zone is touched on because many are societal changes that have been passed down and kept up for years and take about that long to recreate in other areas. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall the evidence supports the idea that having friends makes your life happier and helps you live longer. Diet The last major reason Buettner uses in his talk that backs up longevity is a better diet. One approach to eating better would be to try implementing the MIND diet which consists of increasing your grain, vegetable, and fish intake, while decreasing the amount of red meats and sweets consumed. This particular diet focuses on decreasing the risk of Alzheimer s, which is a major cause of death in those over the age of one hundred (Health.com, 2016). Two approaches that are more permanent than something like a diet that usually has a start and finish date are to have smaller portions of food and to stop eating when you are eighty percent full. The way the Okinawan blue zone has made smaller portions the norm is by eating off of smaller plates as opposed to our average american size plates. Alongside eating fewer calories, a three thousand year old adage, Hara, Hatchi, Bu, created by Confucius, reinforces to stop eating when you are eighty percent full before every meal (Buettner, 2009). • 45. Themes Of Avatar In the 21st century, movies present a platform for ideas and themes to be conveyed through a screen. Themes of change, environmental crisis, love, and death are all only a few of the most common themes that circulate through the Hollywood film industry. According to Annalee Newitz in her essay When Will White People Stop Making Movies Like Avatar? , a recurring theme she s noticed is the theme of white guilt. In her essay, Newitz depicts the movie Avatar as nothing more than a colorful rehash of this (apparently) common white guilt scenario. This is where the main white protagonist leaves the oppressive (white) side to join the oppressed native side upon seeing the error of his ways. Some Americans, including Newitz, believe that movies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, when Jake Sully became their leader so to speak, he had already submitted himself to the Na vi life and made sure to prove his strength as a Na vi, not as a white man. His intention at that point of the movie was not even to take over as the tribe leader, but rather just to lead his new family to fight for their land. Another white fantasy observation Newitz makes in her essay is that the white protagonist always becomes the savior. This is hardly the truth in the Avatar s case. Throughout the film, Jake is rescued by Neytiri and the Na vi numerous times. Even after the final battle is over, it is Neytiri who saves his life when he begins to suffocate in his human form. Also, rather than Jake saving the day during the final battle, the film focuses on the fact that Jake is unable to combat the opposing side single handedly, and can only succeed with the aid of his Na vi brethren. In other words, rather than the white man saving the day, it was the teamwork of his native friends that made the win possible. Admittedly, the start of the movie illustrates the concept of one species (the humans) infiltrating another s (The Navi s) homeland. This was purposeful, as the producer James Cameron wanted to represent the way Europeans invaded Native American lands many years ago. However, this historical correlation was not created based on racial matters, but rather to show the negative effects of imperialism. James Cameron told The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States tax code is currently 74,608 pages long with over 2 million words. In the midst of a divided Congress the American people do what they can to have their voices heard aside from selecting their own Congressional representatives there are many programs and societies established with the goal of spreading the knowledge and support for certain proposals. Americans for Tax Reform, Citizens for Tax Justice, and Americans for Fair Taxation are three of many these groups advocate wildly different ideas, but are dedicated to spreading the word and eventually causing a complete reform of the tax code.
