Factors of Sexual Orientation

Abstract
What does it mean to be a woman or a man? What is it that influences us as individuals to live as a
man or as woman as well have the feelings of attraction to someone else? Furthermore, what is it that
influences us to have those feeling to someone of the same sex? What does this all mean?
Approximately 100 years ago a German physician by the name of Magnus Hirschfeld suggest that the
brain of a fetus could possibly show early signs of whether or not a person would be of homosexual or
heterosexual nature when they became an adult. Can testing and research really tell us how our
innermost thoughts and feeling lead up to a preference of Sexual Orientation?
Major changes took place in the early 19th century when homosexuality started to be looked at in a
different light. Homosexuality started to be looked at and considered as part of nature. Up to this point
the idea of homosexuality was considered wrong in many cultures as well as a punishable crime in
some cases. Even though in ancient Greece the practice of homosexuality was accepted from a very
young age, it was considered out of the norm outside of that culture. Through numerous research
articles the question, what factors influence sexual orientation in male and females is studied.
The research studied comes from research journal articles that have been published in the Journal of
psychology and sociology.

Prison Population Failures
Another interviewee that also agreed with the bill said that the prison population in the United States
is assumed the highest compared to other countries. Part of that is because of to the sentencing that are
harsher for crimes considered small in other parts of the world. The passage of this bill will give law
makers and parties involved in the justice system a chance to review and evaluate laws and sentencing
for reasonability. Secondly, the law will influence that attitude of judges, prosecutors toward
minorities. This is true because are often the victims of harsher sentences for similar crimes committed
by Caucasian. As a result, minorities make up the majority of the prison population. Thirdly, prison
has proven to be a failures. It

Urinary Catheterization
In this paper I am going to perform critical analysis of a research article named as Patients
perspectives on timing of urinary catheter removal after surgery by Rashmi Bhardwaj, Robert Pickard,
Debbie Carrick Sen and Katie Brittain. The article was distributed in 2012. The fundamental
motivation behind this article is to know and examine the effect of long term catheterization and
investigate the patients convictions and observations with respect to perioperative urinary
catheterization. Problem statement, study purpose, research questions, literature review, and
theoretical framework were focused on this critical analysis. Problem Statement Combating catheter

The key facts that the investigators are found in this study are: Placement of a urinary catheter for 2
days postoperatively can expand the possibility of CAUTI. Patients points of view on peri operative
catheterization were caused to recognize patient factors that energize or discourage timely catheter
removal. Patients had an absence of information regarding catheterization and an inadequate inclusion
in the choice for catheter removal with an absence of latrine facilities, which may add to extended
catheterization and an expanded danger of CAUTI. The procurement of sufficient data to patients who
need short term catheterization connected to formal consent will expand patients awareness and may
help decrease catheter duration and decrease the danger of

Scholars As Well As Public Figures Have Suggested That
Scholars as well as public figures have suggested that a world run by women would, fundamentally,
be a more peaceful and equal one. ladies, as the stereotype goes (and, actually, as a decent amount of
empirical research suggests), tend to be more collaborative in work and leadership, more empathetic,
and much, much less violent on an individual level. ,as Vice President Joe Biden recently suggested
foreign policy is a logical extension of personal relationships, and if women are widely acknowledged
to be canny at conducting them, perhaps it follows that female leadership in international affairs would
produce more empathy and collaboration between countries. To the extent that global problems like
violence and inequality are failures of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the precondition for such peace. There cannot be peace between nations until there is peace
between the two halves of humanity, the mothers and fathers of all living and all yet to live. Steinem
sees a connection between what we have chosen to normalize in male female relations, and what we
see at the level of state and society.
The family is the basic cell of the government, she explains, it is where we are trained to believe that
we are human beings or that we are chattel, it is where we are trained to see the sex and race divisions
and become callous to injustice even if it is done to ourselves, to accept as biological a full system of
authoritarian government.
Truly, it should not come as a surprise to us that societies which are rooted in male dominance over
females are in no way peaceful or democratic; as noted by Steinem. We are never going to have
democratic countries or peaceful countries until we have democratic or peaceful families because you
must teach men to dominate in order to maintain a male dominated system and that is a very ugly
education, indeed, where the first to be dominated are those within men s own families who are
different from them
Domestic violence is the seedbed of all other violence based on

The Case Of Gregory Nesbitat
PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) A grand jury indicted the landlord of 20 Noyes St. for six
counts of manslaughter and four criminal violations of the Life Safety Code, stemming from a fire
where six people died. The Nov. 1, 2014 fire on Noyes Street was the deadliest fire in Portland in 40
years. Police said that the building owner, Gregory Nesbit, did not keep the residence up to code,
including fire exits. The fire was accidental, and started by an improperly disposed smoking material
on the porch. Prosecutors still believe Nesbit has some responsibility for the deaths. The manslaughter
charges say that Nesbit did recklessly, or with criminal negligence, cause the death of another human
being. The life safety violations are for secondary

substances include marijuana and ecstasy. Jessica says that she fell asleep at the wheel, which resulted
in the accident. The victims were six teenagers who were assigned to pick up trash on the road by the
Clark County Juvenile Services (Knapp, 2000). The victims include Anthony Smith (14), Scott Garner

The [4] victim s bodies will be portrayed as physical evidence as well, which were scattered
throughout the road.
Forensic Disciplines
For this investigation there were multiple forensic disciplines involved on this case. One of the
forensic disciplines that were involved were toxicology. The toxicology team worked to determine if
Jessica William had any illegal substances in her body. They also worked to find if there was any
impairment involved, which could have been the cause. In her case Jessica blood was found to contain
5.5 nanograms of THC, along with trace amounts of ecstasy (Cervone, 2013). In this case in the state
of Nevada if a person has more than 2 nanograms of THC in their body than they are considered
impaired. Another forensic discipline that was involved would have been engineering sciences, which
would try to figure out how the accident occurs when mechanics are involved such as cars and roads.
Engineering sciences were able to help officers determine what the speed of the vehicle was going at
when the incident occurred. With their help they were able to determine the speed of the vehicle and
that it was going at a speed of 75 mph on I 15. Forensic pathology was also necessary to determine the
death of the victims and identify them for the families as well as identify their wounds.
Evidence Trinity The three sides of evidence trinity connect evidence to the suspect, which connects

The Central Valley Of California
Study Area The Central Valley of California, United States, is a notable structural depression which
covers around 32,187km2 (Figure 1), and is bounded by the Cascade Range in the north, the Sierra
Nevada in the east, the Tehachapi Mountains to the South, and the Coast Ranges and San Francisco
Bay to the west (Planert 1995). The Valley has relatively flat topography, lying close to mean sea level
but is higher along the valley margins. Most of the valley boundary along the eastern edge is about
152m above mean sea level and most of the western boundary ranges from 15 107m above mean sea
level (Jennings 2010). In the past 100 years sea level has risen in the San Francisco Bay area by 10
20cm (Faunt 2009). The climate of the Central Valley area allows for the strong agricultural activity
year round (Johnston 1997), accounting for one sixth of the country s irrigated land. Irrigation in the
area relies on surface water deliveries and on groundwater withdrawal from the underlying regional
aquifer system (Lo 2012).The population of the Central Valley area is around 6.5 million people
according to the 2010 census and is one of the fastest growing regions in the state (Jennings 2010).
San Joaquin basin area contains half a dozen cities and around 30% of the Central Valley population
while the Tulare Basin area contains around 60% of the area s population (Faunt 2009). Climate The
Central Valley has an arid semiarid hot Mediterranean climate (Taylor 2013). The

Culminating Activity Rhetoric can be used as a great way to convince an audience, but it has also
helped many people become better writers. The use of rhetoric in writing is crucial because it s what
makes the source effective or ineffective, so that you are able to persuade the audience. Rhetoric is
defined as, the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing. In order for the speaker to persuade
the audience is using figurative language and the rhetoric appeals. Some appeals which consist of
ethos, pathos, and logos. Each of these which is important in order to catch the audience attention. All

An example of an effective text using the appeals would be In Event of Moon Disaster by former
President Nixon s speechwriter, William Safire in 1999. This text included both ethos and pathos
which was about if a disaster occurred. William Safire s speech in 1999 was an event of a disaster that
left the citizens of the U.S mourned. Safire expressed pathos through the quote where he talked about
how they will be remembered for their courage to accomplish this mission. An example would be,
They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be
mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a mother Earth that dared send two of
her sons into the unknown. In this quote Safire let his audience know that although two men lost their
lives in the launch they will always be remembered. Safire also says, In their exploration, they stirred
the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of
man. From this we can infer that these men sacrificed their lives to try to accomplish a mission that
was almost impossible at the time due to lack of technology. With this being said, the audience was
most likely to react in such a way that might have left them without a word because of the strong
pathos and them being able to understand this event with some empathy.

The Virgins By Robert Herrick And His Coy Mistress By...
To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew
Marvell, are two different, yet similar poems. While both are presented in Carpe Diem form, each
poem approaches seizing the day in alternative ways. Herrick s poem is a caution to young, virgin
women that they should make the most of the moment, to find love now and not wait. Marvell s poem
is directly addressing a specific person, and slowly seducing them. Eventually declaring that they
should act immediately on their urges. These two poems have similar themes, but the one constant
throughout, is time.
The speakers use imagery and metaphors to convey the effects of time and the transient prime of
youth. Herrick s poem is crafted in four stanzas using a rhyming scheme of ABAB, and is written in
four quatrains. Beginning in his first stanza, the speaker mentions of assembling young women and
telling them to grab life and live now. Herrick writes, Gather ye rosebuds while ye may / Old time is
still a flying / And this same flower that smiles today / Tomorrow will be dying (lines 1 4). The
speaker uses the images of rosebuds to symbolize youth and beauty. Once the flower peaks and
blooms, its beauty will fade. So, too, will the beauty of women as they grow older. Furthermore, in the
second stanza, the speaker sets the tone of the poem by writing, The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun /
The high he s a getting / The sooner will his race be run / And nearer he s to setting (5 8). The

Native Language And The Japanese Language
Belonging to the Japonic language family, the Japanese language exclusively belongs to the Japanese
people. Unlike languages such as English and Spanish, where their languages have been adopted by
other countries such as New Zealand and Mexico and therefore isn t just spoken in their home
countries of England and Spain. Japanese is a unique and distinct Asian language used only in Japan.
Japanese language is also a prime example for discourse analysis because it is a refined and complex
language. Discourse analysis studies the overall larger aspect of language and how the language flows
and connects. In some aspects of discourse analysis, it studies how the language is understood and
how the meaning of sentences is affected. Keigo (敬語) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

may be seen in restaurants, exchange of gifts or meeting someone of high esteem. To understand
Wakimae and Uchi soto from a foreign point of view, one must understand that in western culture,
individualism is emphasized whilst in Asian cultures, the needs of the group are more important than
the individual and therefore emphasized more (Moore, 2002). So in reference

Battle Of Midway Essay
Define the Battle (who, when, where) On June 4, 1942, only six months after the Japanese attack on
Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the United States defeated Japan throughout a 4 day battle (until
June 7) in one of the most decisive naval battles of World War II. This battle s location was primarily
the island of Midway Atoll, which is roughly 1,300 miles northwest of Oahu, Hawaii. Recognitions in
part to major advances in code breaking, the United States was able to preempt and counter Japan s
planned ambush of its few remaining aircraft carriers, inflicting permanent damage on the Japanese
Navy. An important turning point in the Pacific campaign, the victory allowed the United States and
its allies to move into an offensive position.

Marianas group, the Battle of the Philippine Sea set the rebuilt Japanese carrier force, commanded by

Battle of Midway, and both had learned from it, but it was only the U.S. Navy that had created a
carrier force that could advance deep into enemy territory and defeat both land based and carrier based
air forces. In two days of multiple air battles, the Japanese lost over 90% of the aircraft that they had
used against Spruance s carriers and surface ships. Philippine Sea was the last gasp of the Japanese
fleet s carrier aviators. At the end of October 1944, after its defeat at the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the
Japanese navy began using kamikaze (suicide) attacks in an effort to compensate for the defeat of its

Strategies To Survive In Hatchet By Gary Paulsen

to survive in the wilderness. Brian made priorities of what the most important things he needed in
order to survive, he experimented with things and learned from trialand error, and he used his hatchet
as a survival tool. The first strategy that Brian used to survive was prioritizing his needs. He decided

Lewis wanted to show the reader, a man who s life is based on the ideals and standards of others.
quot;Villages overgrown towns three quarters of a million people still dressing, eating, building
houses, attending church, to make an impression on their neighbors. quot; (Lewis). This is what Lewis
thought of American society and he used Babbitt to voice his opinions to his readers. In fact that

Babbitt does well in conformist society because in the beginning of the novel he accepts all the
standards, goals, ideals, likes, and dislikes of society. Babbitt s though mirrors all those around him
and he is therefore accepted in society. At first Babbitt lives in the illusion of happiness. The happiness
Babbitt experiences is not genuine because he has replaced his desires with those of society. Since
Babbitt is controlled by society his goals are also controlled by it. The goals set by society are
economic and material worth, social standing, and conservative thought.
Since Babbitt has achieved, at least in part, these goals he is in a sense fooled into believing he is truly
happy. Babbitt s true desires however are not those of society he dreams of nature instead of

Fischer, C, T,. Rennie, D, L,. 1999). Elliot et al. (1999) were such researchers, who were successful in
creating seven key guidelines that can be utilised in any qualitative research. These guidelines are as
follows, owning one s perspective, situating the sample, grounding in examples, providing credibility
checks, coherence, accomplishing general versus specific research tasks and resonating with the
reader. Further detail will be discussed in relation to these guidelines during the following evaluation.
Attention will also be paid to how these guidelines can be applied to IPA analysis.
Main Body
The article, Understanding feelings of anger using IPA (Smith Eatough, 2006), has two key focus
areas. Firstly is the use of IPA. Secondly is the understanding and interpretation of anger as
experienced by the individual. Throughout the article, each section explains how the method, IPA is
utilised. The purpose of the article is to illuminate how ..., anger, emotion related feelings, thoughts
and expressions appear to the individual (Smith Eatough, 2006). They argued that emotions are more
often than not, world focused and proposed that a holistic approach was required to fully understand
this phenomenon. This was studied as a single sample, case study. Data was analysed using IPA with

Nonvalue added activities do not add value to the goods or services. 1 4. Differential costs are
important for managerial decision making, but other cost data can provide management with
additional important information. For example, inventory values and costs of goods sold are important
for income tax and financial reporting purposes as well as for most bonus and cost plus contracting
purposes. Costs for performance evaluation are not necessarily differential costs. Companies try to
recover all costs, hence some estimate of total costs is needed. (This could be an opportunity to

Explain How To Make The Nfl Great Again !
How to make the NFL great again!
1) The professional sports leagues need to partner with the major sportsbooks/casinos
2) Continue to develop direct to consumer broadcast formats
3) Improve the game flow and shorten the game length
The National Football League
The NFL is comprised of 32 teams that compete for the Lombardi Trophy every year. Each team plays
16 regular season games over a 17 week span. The league is divided into two conferences, the AFC
and the NFC. The final team remaining from the AFC and NFC competes against each other in the
championship game, known as the Super Bowl.
Most of the NFL s revenue comes from the national television deals. These television deals are highly
sought after and worth billions of dollars. After the television deals, the other sources of revenue are
corporate sponsorships, licensing, and merchandise sales. (Novy Williams)
The National Football League on top
In a Gallup poll conducted in December of last year, football came out on top, with 37% of Americans
stating it as their favorite sport to watch. Next came basketball at 11% and then baseball at 9%. At its
peak, the NFL was the most popular in 2007 at 43%. Since 1964, the NFL has remained America s
favorite sport to watch (Gallup).

Herodotus On The Customs Of Persians
This essays point is to analyze the primary source and review what the document tells us about the
Persians and what it might be telling us about the Greeks. The primary source being used is On the
Customs of Persians by Herodotus which is written from his view point on the Persians in comparison
to the Greeks customs and beliefs. This paper will discuss the similarities and differences between the
two with evidence found in the primary source to back it up with quotes and explanations to why it s
important. The Greeks and Persians while sharing some similarities they are outweighed by the two s
differences such as; their image in god, sacrificing rituals, customs, and death rituals. The first
difference we see between the two and could also be the biggest, is the Persians not having a set image
of god since the Greeks see their gods as in the same nature as man. We can infer this to Persians by
this quote: They have no images of god, no temples nor alters, and consider them a sign of folly.
(Herodotus par.2) Which tells us they do not see gods as an image of man like the Greeks, they would
see it foolish to think of them as mere idols and see them more as ... Show more content on

share. It also tells us that the Persians seem to like and adopt certain foreign customs that they see to
be as superior or as of a luxury to them, while the Greeks are more to keeping of their own customs
instead of adopting new ones or modify the ones they already have. The Greeks seem to hold their
customs very close due to it working closely with their religion that hold their god that the Greeks see

School of Professional Studies, Northwestern University, Spring 2016, Section 58 Moneyball Movie
Analysis Case Study on the Use of Business Analytics Framework Moneyball movie is about the war
between intuition and statistics. I would start my analysis with one of the many interesting quotes in
the movie. The problem we re trying to solve is that there are rich teams and there are poor teams, then
there s 50 feet of crap, and then there s us. It s an unfair game. And now we ve been gutted. We re like
organ donors for the rich. Boston s taken our kidneys, Yankees have taken our heart. And you guys sit
around talking the same old good body nonsense like we re selling jeans. Like we re looking for
Fabio. We got to think differently. We are the last dog at the bowl. You see what happens to the runt of
the litter? He dies. (Moneyball movie, 2011)
This movie centers on the character of Billy Beane, general manager of Major League Baseball s
Oakland Athletics. In the movie, Billy couldn t re sign Oakland s best 3 players after the 2001 season
due to having a payroll a fraction of A s competitors. He was facing a challenge of building a new
team with a limited payroll and to accomplish this he needs to have a competitive strategy. While

The National Building Museum ( NBM )
The National Building Museum (NBM) was founded in 1980 without a collection. The museum
currently has about 250,000 objects, primarily photographs and architectural drawings all housed in
7,000 square feet of on site storage. The NBM s primary collecting focus is everything related to
buildings, but the structures themselves. They document the process of building with their collection
of architectural plans, photographs, architectural models, and tools. The NBM do not actively collect
artifacts, but are frequently offered objects through private donations. Even with their impressive
collection almost everything currently on view is on loan. There are differences between what is
considered textbook best practices and the work that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Currently, the NBM is in the process of creating a collecting plan to strengthen their collections as
well as turn away items not fitting within the scope of the plan. Many museums in the past collected
without regard to the future which creates havoc on contemporary museum administrators, so the
implementation of a collecting plan is considered best practice. Moreover, when the NBM is offered
items there is a quarterly collections committee who deliberate on the decision. The committee
includes curators, registrars, directors, and preparators. Once the objects are approved the registrar
initiate the accession process. Furthermore, all of these procedures are outlined in their collections
management policy and are updated regularly as is considered standard. In keeping with best practices
at the NBM, the staff facilitates discussions and conversations with other departments in order to solve
any issues that arise. Typically, more established museums have stories of found in collection and gift
restricted objects. However, the NBM showcases how it can happen to any age institution. For
example, a box was found in the collections and while the objects were accessioned and in the
database, the location of the boxes were unknown until that time. Although it was not technically a
found in collection object as the museum did have a deed of gift, it was a similar instance that
registrars do not want happening regularly. Although this case is usual, according to best

Cyanide Reaction Lab Report
I. INTRODUCTION
Cyanide is a chemical compound containing cyano (─C≡N) groups, comprising carbon and nitrogen
radicals, and can be found in various organic and inorganic compounds. Some inorganic cyanide
compounds such as sodium cyanide (NaCN) and potassium cyanide (KCN) are groups of compounds
having negatively charged polyatomic cyanide ions (CN ). This compound is a salt of a highly toxic
hydrocyanic acid. Several types of organic cyanides are usually called nitriles, in which the CN group
is covalently bonded to a carbon group, such as methyl (CH3) dimethyl cyanide (acetonitrile). Since
nitrile compounds do not release free cyanide ions, they are generally less toxic, or in the case of
insoluble polymers such as acrylic fibers, essentially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nickel in the nickel (II) state is more stable than nickel (0), nickel (I), nickel (III) and nickel (IV).
Nickel (I) and nickel (0) are unstable because they are easily oxidized, nickel (III) is easily reduced to
nickel (II) and nickel (IV) is rare. Nickel (II) forms a large number of complexes with coordination
numbers 6, 5, and 4, which have all major types of structures, namely octahedral, bipiramidal trigonal,
pyramidal squares, tetrahedral, and square (Cotton and Wilkinson, 2009). Most nickel complexes
adopt octahedron geometry structures, adopt only slightly the geometry of tetrahedron and square.
A nickel (II) complex with a strong ligand capable of performing better electron donations, tends to
prefer a square structure rather than an octahedral. The commonly known nickel (II) complex
compound is a tetracanonic acid (II) ([Ni(CN)4)]2 ) diamagnetic ion. The square structure can occur
because one d orbitals, one s orbital and two p orbitals undergo dsp2 hybridization. The square nickle
cyanide complex with a strong cyanide ligand will be more stable with the radii of Ni2+ (Å) ions

The Last Game vs. Reunion Contrast Essay
The Last Game And Reunion Stories of Contrast What is a father? A father is someone who is more
than just a person who created you. A father is a person who should be a mentor to you and helps
guide you through life. What isn t a father is one who simply puts their children aside to live their own
lives and have no part in their children s life and growth. The stories I will be contrasting are The Last
Game, by Jan Weiner and Reunion, by John Cheever. My first reason of contrast is that in Last Game,
the relationship between characters Jan Weiner and his father is that of mutual admiration in which the
son had great respect for his, his pride and braveness of choice which is contrasted in Reunion, as the
son Charlie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think this reason is important because it shows how a father should and should not present a view of
himself to his child. What this reason means to me is that the picture you paint of yourself makes a
drastic impact on what your child thinks of you. It might have a huge effect on what decisions the
child will make in the future whether positive or negative. Mostly this reason might be what helps the
child build a good morale and self esteem. To further prove my reason I these quotes, from Last
Game, Jan Weiner says, I would have liked to have begged my father no to leave me. But something
in my father s face made me not plead. I knew he was right (p.4) and from Reunion, when character
Charlie says, I felt he was my father, my flesh, my future, and my doom. (p.232) When a person is
aggressive and abusive they might be the one person who s holding their loved ones back while there
are also people that go out of their way to be the type of presence their loved ones need in their lives
to become better people. The second contrasting reason is in Last Game, the son s father is dealing
with political problems in that he s a Jew constantly being chased by Nazi s and had make an
inevitable decision on how he

Delores Williams Analysis
There are not too many stories in the Bible where you hear about women liberating themselves.
Delores Williams, the author, discusses in the first chapter of African American and slave women
history from a religious experience. Hagar, a black female slave, showed that it does not matter the
circumstances, any woman can take a stand even if they re powerless. It takes courage to liberate
yourself from oppression and others. Many might not agree with the position that Hagar took when
she decide to run away from her owners. Even though she ran away, she put her trust in God to guide
her through what even journey she may endure. It s not even day back in Hagar times that a slave
decided to liberate herself from her family. Hagar was just an inmost virgin slave that was oppressed
by her owner Sarai. The owner used Hagar for her benefits but did not think about the repercussions.
If a woman was unable to provide children for her husband, she was seen as worthless. Therefore,
since Sarai had fertility problems she decided to give her slave to her ... Show more content on

I agree with the Williams that when it comes to the black women culture, they sometimes turn to
religion to her guide them. Many centuries again black women had a strong religious background.
Hagar was indeed brave from leaving the harsh treatment that she was facing; however, I also had to
agree with Williams that liberating herself was great, but she did not think about the consequences
when she took those actions.
The story of Hagar helped me understand more how difficult it was for black women to liberate
themselves. Also, understanding that you can not run away powerless. Williams helped me understand
how religion plays a big part in many people lives. For instance, most individuals look for guides in
God or someone higher they believe in. Hagar used her guidance and trust in faith to let her know that
the only thing worst is running away without a

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, by Haruki Murakami, 100 Years...
Magical realism, as described by Michael Woods, is not a style of writing, just a modest fidelity to the
magic of reality in places where we are not. Woods goes on to tell his audience of the allure of
magical realism by explaining that reality in foreign places are more enchanting and exciting than
probably anything a reader could think of. Woods sets out vague principles of what magical realism
rarely resorts to. His list includes: dates, recognizable city streets, historical personages, diaries, gritty
descriptions, invitations to look things up in the newspapers.... Late night settings, promises of much
strangeness, aghast and/or terrified audience of listeners within the tale. By Woods standards he tells

Although Nutmeg mentions her job and work through the latter half of the novel it is never clear what
she does and how Toru helps her. Why was the well dry? Who was that faceless man? Although the
author gives a general idea about the answers to the questions, it is still left unclear of the correct
answer and is up for interpretation. Dante s Inferno also leaves the reader with more questions than
answers. In Inferno, symbolism is extremely obvious yet Dante still leaves certain questions
unanswered. The story never reveals why those in Hell are only punished for a single sin rather than
more than one sin or why he only cares about those suffering in Hell who are from Florence and
choses to ignore those some while he talks to others. Dante stays predominantly compliant to Woods
list of things that a magically realistic rarely does. Even though Dante makes reference to historic
personages, he makes note of them for their reason in Hell from their past. To a reader of present time,
the dates (Good Friday to Easter Sunday of the year 1300) seem almost irrelevant and one would find
it rather difficult to find a newspaper entry on something from the fourteenth century. A component of
Inferno is that while Dante is experiencing and traveling through Hell, he finds none of this out of the
ordinary. In fact, he wonders why he was picked to participate in this shamanistic journey. Woods
tells, Hell is real or imaginary, strange or all too

Second Treatise By John Locke Analysis
Throughout John Locke s Second Treatise of Government, God s intentions and purpose for humanity
can be seen. Locke believes that God plays a significant role in equality by creating all men equally
and by establishing divine laws. God also establishes moral limits on the authority of rulers over their
subjects. In Locke s Second Treatise, God plays multiple roles in the development of a political
society. God s role is to create men equally in the state of nature, develop boundaries of property, and
motivate the common man to cultivate land and not waste resources. Thus, God plays a large role in
society by providing basic, fundamental rights, which cannot be taken away, to all men. In the
beginning of the book, in Chapter II, Locke says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Locke believes that the people should be the first judges and get to be able to elect a new legislature if
the old one is corrupt. However, if the legislature ignores the people, then God alone, it is true, is
judge of the right (Locke 123). This quote reveals that God is the ultimate judge between the people
and the sovereign. God gives the people the right to rebel if the legislature or ruler is mistreating the
people. If the sovereign refuses judgment from the people, then only God is able to decide if he is
guilty. This role God plays allows the people to maintain their natural rights, if a sovereign is acting
unjustly by sending dissension throughout the commonwealth. Through God, Locke is able to ensure
that a corrupt government does not compromise the people s basic rights. However, the implication of
God s role in judgment is that he is unable to speak directly to the people or the sovereign himself.
Thus, the people must be accountable for the actions of the sovereign themselves, as God is unable to
act physically upon

Romance in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Essay
Romance in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley The Romantic Movement in England, and subsequently in
America, occurred in the late 18th to the early 19th centuries. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley
conforms to many literary trends that were used by the romantics. One literary trend of the romantic
era is for the story to be set in a very remote or foreign place. Possibly, the purpose of having a story
set in a foreign place was to create a realm that is entirely different from the known world of the
reader. After all, for a monster in an apartment in the middle of London would hardly have been
believable. Above all, the Romantic writer s objective was to create new and/or different worlds so

the death of his mother Victor begins his voyage to find himself. He is on his way to the great

before. It can also be viewed as romantic because this departure from his mother may have leaded him
to find life somewhere else. Victor started to believe that he could bring people back from the grave.
Playing with nature in such a way would make him play the role of God. Victor felt that he had no true

desperately tries to befriend members of society, but utterly fails at each attempt. Both his mother s
absence and his loneliness may have leaded him to create his creature. Male dominancy is a huge

ways. After the death of his mother, a man now leads Victor s house. Victor goes off to an all male

Biography of Karl Marx Only in the course of the world s history can a person born over a hundred

He paved the way for people of the same political background as his own. Marx s ideas were unique

The Baron introduced him into Romantic literature and Saint Simonian. Marx s dad sent him to the
University of Berlin for four years. While in Berlin he traded in his views of Romanticism to views of
the Hegelianism, which ruled Berlin at this point in history. When Marx s college career was cut short
by the opposition of the Prussian Government he moved to journalism. Marx became the editor of the
Rheinische Zeitung a liberal newspaper in Cologne, Germany in 1842. His views on economic
questions made the Prussian Government uncomfortable and they closed the paper. This is where
Marx first got his ideas of how classes make life harsh for certain people and the only way to fix this
is to eliminate classes all together. After that Marx moved to France, where in a few months he
became a communist. He developed his ideas in his writings, which he titled Economic and
Philosophical Manuscripts. It was in Paris that Marx met his partner for life Friedrich Engel s. Both of
them moved to Brussels, and visited Engel s family in England from time to time. During his time
here he wrote The German Ideology for which he had studied history intensely to come up with a
materialistic view of history. In the German Ideology Marx said, The nature of individuals depends on

Maturation In Charles Portis Novel True Grit

him after a gambling problem. Mattie shows maturation throughout the novel True Grit, by showing
bravery, standing up for herself and not letting Rooster and LeBoeuf hold her back, and by developing
true grit as she ages through the novel. Mattie Ross shows maturation through her bravery to look for
her father in the dangerous country of the wild west. She does not fear of what everyone else would

Cell Phone Use While Driving Essay
The study was attempting to determine the thoughts and behaviors that African American freshman

thought cellphones (independent variable) impact driving skills (dependent variable). Research
suggests that cellphone use correlates to higher likelihood of accidents. The study used 331 (195
females and 136 males) freshman students who held a driver s license. The students were then given a
questionnaire with 50 questions, with 6 demographic items, that asked about 5 general items that
distract drivers. The survey was given during the freshman first year experience class. The study could
only use a survey response to ask students about their cellphone use and would not be ethical to have
students use their cellphones and drive, in a real life experiment setting. They found evidence that
supports their initial beliefs that cell phone use does lead to greater risk of danger while driving. They
further explain the limits to their study, that this can only be generalized towards the African American
community because of the selective (purely African American college) sample. Chellappa, S. L.,

What is it that influences us as individuals to live as a man or as woman as well have the feelings of attraction to someone else? Furthermore, what is it that influences us to have those feeling to someone of the same sex? What does this all mean? Approximately 100 years ago a German physician by the name of Magnus Hirschfeld suggest that the brain of a fetus could possibly show early signs of whether or not a person would be of homosexual or heterosexual nature when they became an adult. Can testing and research really tell us how our innermost thoughts and feeling lead up to a preference of Sexual Orientation? Major changes took place in the early 19th century when homosexuality started to be looked at in a different light. Homosexuality started to be looked at and considered as part of nature. Up to this point the idea of homosexuality was considered wrong in many cultures as well as a punishable crime in some cases. Even though in ancient Greece the practice of homosexuality was accepted from a very young age, it was considered out of the norm outside of that culture. Through numerous research articles the question, what factors influence sexual orientation in male and females is studied. The research studied comes from research journal articles that have been published in the Journal of psychology and sociology. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scholars As Well As Public Figures Have Suggested That Scholars as well as public figures have suggested that a world run by women would, fundamentally, be a more peaceful and equal one. ladies, as the stereotype goes (and, actually, as a decent amount of empirical research suggests), tend to be more collaborative in work and leadership, more empathetic, and much, much less violent on an individual level. ,as Vice President Joe Biden recently suggested foreign policy is a logical extension of personal relationships, and if women are widely acknowledged to be canny at conducting them, perhaps it follows that female leadership in international affairs would produce more empathy and collaboration between countries. There cannot be peace between nations until there is peace between the two halves of humanity, the mothers and fathers of all living and all yet to live. Steinem sees a connection between what we have chosen to normalize in male female relations, and what we see at the level of state and society. The family is the basic cell of the government, she explains, it is where we are trained to believe that we are human beings or that we are chattel, it is where we are trained to see the sex and race divisions and become callous to injustice even if it is done to ourselves, to accept as biological a full system of authoritarian government. Truly, it should not come as a surprise to us that societies which are rooted in male dominance over females are in no way peaceful or democratic; as noted by Steinem. We are never going to have democratic countries or peaceful countries until we have democratic or peaceful families because you must teach men to dominate in order to maintain a male dominated system and that is a very ugly education, indeed, where the first to be dominated are those within men s own families who are different from them Domestic violence is the seedbed of all other violence based on ... Rhetorical Analysis Of The 1969 Apollo Itzel Nava AP English Language Period:3 October 1, 2017 Culminating Activity Rhetoric can be used as a great way to convince an audience, but it has also helped many people become better writers. The use of rhetoric in writing is crucial because it s what makes the source effective or ineffective, so that you are able to persuade the audience. Rhetoric is defined as, the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing. In order for the speaker to persuade the audience is using figurative language and the rhetoric appeals. An example of an effective text using the appeals would be In Event of Moon Disaster by former President Nixon s speechwriter, William Safire in 1999. This text included both ethos and pathos which was about if a disaster occurred. William Safire s speech in 1999 was an event of a disaster that left the citizens of the U.S mourned. Safire expressed pathos through the quote where he talked about how they will be remembered for their courage to accomplish this mission. An example would be, They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown. In this quote Safire let his audience know that although two men lost their lives in the launch they will always be remembered. Safire also says, In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man. From this we can infer that these men sacrificed their lives to try to accomplish a mission that was almost impossible at the time due to lack of technology. With this being said, the audience was most likely to react in such a way that might have left them without a word because of the strong pathos and them being able to understand this event with some empathy. ... • 12. The Virgins By Robert Herrick And His Coy Mistress By... To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, are two different, yet similar poems. While both are presented in Carpe Diem form, each poem approaches seizing the day in alternative ways. Herrick s poem is a caution to young, virgin women that they should make the most of the moment, to find love now and not wait. Marvell s poem is directly addressing a specific person, and slowly seducing them. Eventually declaring that they should act immediately on their urges. These two poems have similar themes, but the one constant throughout, is time. The speakers use imagery and metaphors to convey the effects of time and the transient prime of youth. Herrick s poem is crafted in four stanzas using a rhyming scheme of ABAB, and is written in four quatrains. Beginning in his first stanza, the speaker mentions of assembling young women and telling them to grab life and live now. Herrick writes, Gather ye rosebuds while ye may / Old time is still a flying / And this same flower that smiles today / Tomorrow will be dying (lines 1 4). The speaker uses the images of rosebuds to symbolize youth and beauty. Once the flower peaks and blooms, its beauty will fade. So, too, will the beauty of women as they grow older. Furthermore, in the second stanza, the speaker sets the tone of the poem by writing, The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun / The high he s a getting / The sooner will his race be run / And nearer he s to setting (5 8). This compound is a salt of a highly toxic hydrocyanic acid. Several types of organic cyanides are usually called nitriles, in which the CN group is covalently bonded to a carbon group, such as methyl (CH3) dimethyl cyanide (acetonitrile). Nickel in the nickel (II) state is more stable than nickel (0), nickel (I), nickel (III) and nickel (IV). Nickel (I) and nickel (0) are unstable because they are easily oxidized, nickel (III) is easily reduced to nickel (II) and nickel (IV) is rare. Nickel (II) forms a large number of complexes with coordination numbers 6, 5, and 4, which have all major types of structures, namely octahedral, bipiramidal trigonal, pyramidal squares, tetrahedral, and square (Cotton and Wilkinson, 2009). Hagar, a black female slave, showed that it does not matter the circumstances, any woman can take a stand even if they re powerless. It takes courage to liberate yourself from oppression and others. Many might not agree with the position that Hagar took when she decide to run away from her owners. Even though she ran away, she put her trust in God to guide her through what even journey she may endure. It s not even day back in Hagar times that a slave decided to liberate herself from her family. Hagar was just an inmost virgin slave that was oppressed by her owner Sarai. The owner used Hagar for her benefits but did not think about the repercussions. If a woman was unable to provide children for her husband, she was seen as worthless. Therefore, since Sarai had fertility problems she decided to give her slave to her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I agree with the Williams that when it comes to the black women culture, they sometimes turn to religion to her guide them. Many centuries again black women had a strong religious background. Hagar was indeed brave from leaving the harsh treatment that she was facing; however, I also had to agree with Williams that liberating herself was great, but she did not think about the consequences when she took those actions. The story of Hagar helped me understand more how difficult it was for black women to liberate themselves. Also, understanding that you can not run away powerless. Williams helped me understand how religion plays a big part in many people lives. For instance, most individuals look for guides in God or someone higher they believe in. Hagar used her guidance and trust in faith to let her know that the only thing worst is running away without a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, by Haruki Murakami, 100 Years... Magical realism, as described by Michael Woods, is not a style of writing, just a modest fidelity to the magic of reality in places where we are not. Woods goes on to tell his audience of the allure of magical realism by explaining that reality in foreign places are more enchanting and exciting than probably anything a reader could think of. Woods sets out vague principles of what magical realism rarely resorts to. His list includes: dates, recognizable city streets, historical personages, diaries, gritty descriptions, invitations to look things up in the newspapers.... Late night settings, promises of much strangeness, aghast and/or terrified audience of listeners within the tale. By Woods standards he tells what does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Nutmeg mentions her job and work through the latter half of the novel it is never clear what she does and how Toru helps her. Why was the well dry? Who was that faceless man? Although the author gives a general idea about the answers to the questions, it is still left unclear of the correct answer and is up for interpretation. Dante s Inferno also leaves the reader with more questions than answers. In Inferno, symbolism is extremely obvious yet Dante still leaves certain questions unanswered. The story never reveals why those in Hell are only punished for a single sin rather than more than one sin or why he only cares about those suffering in Hell who are from Florence and choses to ignore those some while he talks to others. Dante stays predominantly compliant to Woods list of things that a magically realistic rarely does. Even though Dante makes reference to historic personages, he makes note of them for their reason in Hell from their past. To a reader of present time, the dates (Good Friday to Easter Sunday of the year 1300) seem almost irrelevant and one would find it rather difficult to find a newspaper entry on something from the fourteenth century. A component of Inferno is that while Dante is experiencing and traveling through Hell, he finds none of this out of the ordinary. In fact, he wonders why he was picked to participate in this shamanistic journey. Woods tells, Hell is real or imaginary, strange or all too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Second Treatise By John Locke Analysis Throughout John Locke s Second Treatise of Government, God s intentions and purpose for humanity can be seen. Locke believes that God plays a significant role in equality by creating all men equally and by establishing divine laws. God also establishes moral limits on the authority of rulers over their subjects. In Locke s Second Treatise, God plays multiple roles in the development of a political society. God s role is to create men equally in the state of nature, develop boundaries of property, and motivate the common man to cultivate land and not waste resources. Thus, God plays a large role in society by providing basic, fundamental rights, which cannot be taken away, to all men. In the beginning of the book, in Chapter II, Locke says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Locke believes that the people should be the first judges and get to be able to elect a new legislature if the old one is corrupt. However, if the legislature ignores the people, then God alone, it is true, is judge of the right (Locke 123). This quote reveals that God is the ultimate judge between the people and the sovereign. God gives the people the right to rebel if the legislature or ruler is mistreating the people. If the sovereign refuses judgment from the people, then only God is able to decide if he is guilty. This role God plays allows the people to maintain their natural rights, if a sovereign is acting unjustly by sending dissension throughout the commonwealth. Through God, Locke is able to ensure that a corrupt government does not compromise the people s basic rights. However, the implication of God s role in judgment is that he is unable to speak directly to the people or the sovereign himself. Thus, the people must be accountable for the actions of the sovereign themselves, as God is unable to act physically upon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Romance in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Essay Romance in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley The Romantic Movement in England, and subsequently in America, occurred in the late 18th to the early 19th centuries. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley conforms to many literary trends that were used by the romantics. One literary trend of the romantic era is for the story to be set in a very remote or foreign place. Possibly, the purpose of having a story set in a foreign place was to create a realm that is entirely different from the known world of the reader. After all, for a monster in an apartment in the middle of London would hardly have been believable. He is on his way to the great unknown, experiencing something new, and possibly trying something that has never been tried before. It can also be viewed as romantic because this departure from his mother may have leaded him to find life somewhere else. Victor started to believe that he could bring people back from the grave. Playing with nature in such a way would make him play the role of God. Victor felt that he had no true friends, the only relief he had of expressing his feeling was through letters to Elizabeth. He desperately tries to befriend members of society, but utterly fails at each attempt. Both his mother s absence and his loneliness may have leaded him to create his creature. Male dominancy is a huge characteristic of gothic work done in the 18th and 19th centuries; Shelly exemplifies this in many ways. After the death of his mother, a man now leads Victor s house. Victor goes off to an all male school where he is surrounded my nothing but males. Victor became so self absorbed into his project that he seem to forget all that was important to him. Marx became the editor of the Rheinische Zeitung a liberal newspaper in Cologne, Germany in 1842. His views on economic questions made the Prussian Government uncomfortable and they closed the paper. Her eyelashes were admittedly Photoshopped when questioned by the ASA* of the U.K. who refused to allow the Dior ad to publish in their country. Celebs use it all the time to create that perfect other worldly look to their bodies and faces. Sometimes that is a bad thing though. So many women have lower self esteem due to this simple smoke and mirrors effect of Photoshop. What I find interesting is America is very pro Photoshop in nearly every single magazine, ad, etc. However in the U.K. you will often see people without any editing done to their faces. • 37. Cell Phone Use While Driving Essay The study was attempting to determine the thoughts and behaviors that African American freshman college students in regards to cellphone use while driving. They wanted to know how the students thought cellphones (independent variable) impact driving skills (dependent variable). Research suggests that cellphone use correlates to higher likelihood of accidents. The study used 331 (195 females and 136 males) freshman students who held a driver s license. The students were then given a questionnaire with 50 questions, with 6 demographic items, that asked about 5 general items that distract drivers. The survey was given during the freshman first year experience class. The study could only use a survey response to ask students about their cellphone use and would not be ethical to have students use their cellphones and drive, in a real life experiment setting. They found evidence that supports their initial beliefs that cell phone use does lead to greater risk of danger while driving. They further explain the limits to their study, that this can only be generalized towards the African American community because of the selective (purely African American college) sample.
