Strategic Problem And Issues Of The Performance Apparel...
Strategic Problem and Issues: In the performance apparel market the top three competitors consist
of Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour, with Nike leading the industry and Under Armour coming in
last. The Challenge for Under Armor will be can they stand the pressure from their competitors as
they expand into a bigger market. They must be able to provide their customers with either cheaper
or better products, the companies marginal cost should be better than that of their competitors, and
Under Armour must prove to their customers that their products are different and overall better than
their competitors (Terfis Team, 2014). If they re able to succeed through these risk, then Under
Armour will have a fighting chance of competing with those larger companies. Situation Analysis
and Evaluation: Under Armour s goals is to make athletes better through Passion, Design and the
Relentless Pursuit of innovation (UnderArmour, 2016). Under Armour is constantly developing
new products that help achieve their goal of being innovative. In 1996, Kevin created workout gear
that provides compression, wicks moisture, keeps athletes cool and dry, and allows them to feel not
weighed down by making his clothing light. The company also provides their consumer with new
technology, and accessories that assist in their physical performance. Their goal and objectives to
be innovative is consistent with their mission. The organization is constantly creating new
products. It started with clothing that

Severe Complications Of Trauma And Squeeze
These can be achieved the use of a tension ball that allows the tactile hand to squeeze and release,
providing a non influence exercise that is pretty effective. Here s a hint: should anyone ever wake
up each morning feeling stiff , this is a sign that you might be sleeping and not even recognize it
poorly.
If the discomfort is connected with an trauma or injury, the severity can help indicate treatment.
Severe complications such as for example ligament or muscle tears and tendon damage might need
to end up being repaired by surgery. This is an indication that will more happen because of this of
a sports injury likely. Any repetitive accidents that you perform start to suffer from it must be
treated mainly through rest. If any kind is acquired

Implementing Best Procurement And Acquisition Practices
In order to institutionalize best procurement and acquisition practices in an organization, I would
begin by forming a cross functional team made up of supply management personnel, finance
personnel, attorneys, human resources, engineers, and other subject matter experts. As was
highlighted in chapter ___ of the class text, this is the best approach for ensuring that the broadest
possible range of ideas and perspectives are incorporated early into the planning process.
Additionally, it ensures that a great idea conceived of by one functional area is viewed from within
the restrictions and/or limitations imposed by another. As with specifications development, this
process allows the team to develop a reasonable, effective, and implementable plan that works
across functional areas and provides the greatest return on investment. One company that has been
particularly successful in implementing best practices is Toyota. I would adopt that companies
approach to implementing best practices by delegating responsibility down to the lowest level. For
example, if anyone on the factory floor spots a deficiency, he or she has the authority to stop the
assembly line so that the condition and its contributing factors may be examined, recorded, and
analyzed. This same principle could be applied to the acquisition process. By empowering rank and
file purchasers, contract specialists, contract administrators, and quality control personnel to
approach managementand provide input on

The Lady Of Shalott, By William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare s play Hamlet, has become a staple in contemporary society. Apart from the
multitude of ingenious in this play, the character of Ophelia particularly places great importance on
modern day woman. Ophelia s importance throughout the play has been many times viewed as only
her relation to Hamletand the effect she has on him. Ophelia is important not just in this sense, but
in respect of what she tells the reader about the society she lived in, in contrast to the society one
lives in today. AlfredLord Tennyson s poem The Lady of Shalott, parallels closely to the life of
Ophelia. Tennyson s poem written over 200 years after Hamlet, is about a young woman who
lives on an island off the coast of Camelot. There is a curse... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ophelia is the most one sided yet consistent out of all the vital characters in Hamlet. She has great
potential to be a tragic heroine and overcome the misfortunes forced upon her but instead, she
slowly diminishes into insanity following Hamlet s contradictory treatment towards her, and
murder of her father: She speaks much of her father, says she hears there s tricks i th world, and
hems, and beats her heart, (Shakespeare, Hamlet, 4.5. 4 5). Ophelia is a young woman, with no
womanly guidance to aid her. Her father Polonius, and brother Laertes, care for Ophelia and go to
great lengths to preserve her innocence. Her loyalty to her father and brother is out of pure
gratitude and appreciation for their concern. She obeys her father and brother s command not to
see or accept any letters from Hamlet, despite her love for him:
Polonius: This is for all: I would not, in plain terms, from this time forth, have you so slander any
moment leisure, as to give words or talk with the Lord Hamlet. Look to t, I charge you (1.3.131 135)
Ophelia: I shall obey, my lord . (1.3.136)
Polonius believes he knows what is best for Ophelia, and it is his ego that initiates her antic
disposition. Polonius is convinced, Hamlet s madness is due to Ophelia breaking ties with him.
This theory is what drives Polonius to concern the king, Claudius, and use Ophelia as a pawn to get
to the bottom of Hamlet s madness. Hamlet unravels their plan, and when encountered with

Rosalind Franklin Dna Replication
Because of her discovery of the B form of DNA, recognition that two states of the
DNA molecule existed and defined the conditions for the transition, essentially being literally only
two steps away from discovering the structure of DNA herself, Rosalind
Franklin deserved to be a co winner of the 1962 Nobel Peace Prize Nobel Prize in
Medicine for elucidating the structure of DNA in such a way that the mechanism for genetic
replication was revealed. The x ray, or photograph that James Watson, Francis
Crick and Maurice Wilkins used, and was extremely viable in all three of their research, was a
direct result of work carried out by Rosalind Franklin while at King s College in
London. Instead, the three men received the recognition and Rosalind ... Show more content on

From these photographs, or x rays, she was able to draw a logical conclusion to the basic
dimensions of DNA strands. Rosalind actually presented these findings at a lecture in King s
College at which one of the eventual Prize winners, James Watson, were in attendance. Franklin
tried to figure out how the double helix worked but wasn t able to. Without her permission,
Franklin s co worker, Maurice Wilkins, secretly showed her photos to the American scientist
Watson. He and Francis Crick, his British research partner, were trying to build a DNA model.
When Watson saw the photographs, he realized that DNA is a double stranded helix and the two
were able to complete the model.
In 1953, the same year Rosalind left Cambridge, both Wilkins and Franklin published papers on
their X ray data in the same journal issue with Watson and Crick s paper on the structure of DNA.
Neither published paper gave credit to the photo that would eventually help, if not become the
breakthrough they needed in their

Laszlo tells Charlie Rose in the interview that some of the top 50 googlers don t even have

afraid to succeed. They are willing to try new things and are willing to put their ideas out there
even if they feel like it might not be worth sharing.
Another article that I read helped me understand more of what Laszlo Bock is referring to when
he says management needs to have a broader point of view. In this article The Evolution of
Management, the author talks about the different styles of management that have been adopted by
leaders to date and it seems that what used to work before just will not get the job done today.
After a century of trying to control people, processes and information, we have come to a point in
organizational history where we need to recognize that what worked before just simply isn t
enough anymore. This goes to prove that over time just like everything else evolves our behaviors
towards our colleagues has to evolve as well. And management has to learn the new behaviors of
his/her employees. The Millennials and generation Z needs to know that they are appreciated and
need to be challenged before they get bored, hence the reason why managers need to learn

The Suffering Griselda in The Clerk s Tale Essay
In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Clerk s Tale, from The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer describes a perfect
wife. This wife, Griselda, is totally submissive to her husband, and seems to have no regrets or
remorse for anything he makes her do. Griselda s husband, Walter, puts her through many trials in
order to test her dedication and loyalty to him. He takes away both of their children, telling her
that he is going to have them killed. He then tells her that he is divorcing her and taking another
bride. After this, he forces her to prepare the new bride for him. Through all of this, Griselda loves
Walter without fail, meets his demands without any word of disapproval, and remains faithful.
This causes the reader to ask ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Griselda consents, and they are married. Griselda later has a daughter and son, both of whom
Walter takes away leaving Griselda with the impression that they will be killed. He does this to
make sure that Griselda is totally loyal to him. Griselda never complains or shows any loss of love
for him.
Walter decides that Griselda should still be tested, and tells her that he is divorcing her. He then
brings the children back. Griselda returns home to her father, and Walter pretends to get his new
bride ready to marry, which is really his daughter. Griselda assists with the wedding preparations.
Walter then decides that Griselda is truly loyal to him, and tells her the truth. They then live happily
ever after.
It is probably easiest to see the comparison between Griselda and the biblical character of Job. It is
easiest because Chaucer (or the clerk) makes mention of this comparison himself when he says:
Men speke of Job, and moost for his humblesse,/ As clerkes, whan hem list, koone wel endite,
/ Namely of men, but as in soothfastnesse,/ Though clerkes preise wommen but a lite,/ Ther kan no
man in humblesse hym acquite,/ As womman kan, ne kan been half sdo trewe/ As wommen been,
but it be falle of new (149). Everyone thinks of Job as a very humble man. This passage says that
although Job is humble, Griselda has much more humility. Men rarely praise women when they

Roman And Han Attitudes Toward Technology
Roman and Han attitudes towards technology is that it should be used for public works but they
also had two different point of views on how to utilize these advancements in their society. While
the Han thought that technology should better benefit the working class, the Romans held that
attitude that technologyshouldn t be utilized at all for labor.
Han and Rome both believed that technology should be utilized for public works as seen in
documents 1,6,and 8. In doc. 1, the Han request the establishment of water conservation offices in
each district to prevent floods. The displays a positive attitude towards the Han dynasty because it

Document 2 shows an official s distress in the decrease of quality in the tools that were used by
the working class. Han Guan, a Han government official is concerned that the tools were
decreasing in quality and slowly became scarce due to the increase in price and many common
people could no longer afford them. The Han dynasty wanted its working class to be provided
with decent quality tools in order to carry on their jobs efficiently and produce better results.
Doc. 3 tells the story of a mythical emperor who had invented a mortar and pestle paired with
water and animal power and the benefit was increased a hundredfold. This shows that higher
classes of the Han dynasty admired efficiency in their labors and would do anything with their
technology to increase its productivity. Doc. 4 states that Tu Shih loved the common people and
wished to save their labor. Governor Tu Shih invented a water powered blowing engine which,
allowed people to enjoy great benefit for little labor. These documents emphasize that the Han
dynasty did everything to increase efficiency and productivity for its working

Alcohol Abuse In America
23.1% of all Americans have some alcohol use disorder, also known as AUDs, and 5% of those
are children. Alcohol abuse is defined by the repeated drinking of alcohol to the point that it
interferes with day to day activities, such as work. Also if you drink more than 7 drinks per week,
for women, or 14 per week, for men, then you are considered to have a drinking problem.
Alcoholismhas dastardly effects on the people themselves and around them. We need to put an end
to the emotional, physical, and economic problems caused by the abuse of alcohol.
Alcoholism not only affects you mentally, but also the mentality of your children, friends, and
significant other. Alcohol is a depressant and continued use of it can cause you to develop

They say the world is a book and those who are not fond of travelling read only a page.
Everybody will agree that life without books is really boring, colourless and monotonous. It s a
book that not only can open you a secret world of imagination but also can change your reality into
a better one.
The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough I believe is exactly that kind of a book. I m a book lover

situation happened with The Thorn Birds. I had no idea what I wanted to buy, so I was just

Dangers Of Peer Pressure On Girls
Dangers of Peer Pressure on Girls As a little girl I had much confidence about myself and felt I
looked the best from my school as well as many other girls from my school. Nowadays, many girls
are pressured into being perfect in a way they feel they will never accomplish. Little girls such as
ten year olds have started to show low self esteemand hate to their body image because of the
models that are being constantly promoted. As 10TV stated, When you were 10 or 11, you
probably didn t give much thought to body image. Today, kids that age are worried more about
looking like Barbie than playing Barbie. Girls are punishing themselves with cutting, going on
extreme diets, and often kill themselves because they hate themselves. Girls are also seen
wearing makeup at a young age to improve their facial features and think they will now finally be
accepted in society as being perfect. A recent Mintel survey showed that six out of ten seven year
olds wear lipstick, and two in five use eyeshadows. ( Pretty Pressure: Girls it pays to be pretty, but
not too pretty. ) So even though social media is showing off beautiful women to give good
advertisement, girls are being affected by constantly feeling down and wanting to fit into society
and be accepted and seen as perfect, they hate themselves for not being pretty enough as celebrities
that have gone through many surgeries to get that perfect image, and some cases have led to issues
such as depression, cutting, eating problem, and

Rafael Trujillo s Farewell Analysis
Recently, there have been astonishing changes to our nation, the Dominican Republic, after the
assassination of Rafael Trujillo, our former president that murdered anyone who resisted his
regime and was once viewed upon as a fatherly figure. We are no longer living in fear of the
Servicio de Inteligencia Militar forces since their disbandment and do not hold a portrait of El Jefe
within our houses, simply having more freedom than we did before. Isn t it true that this is a
blessing to us all? Without a doubt, I give my thanks to the Mirabal sisters, the butterflies whom set

We can not forget that the Mirabal sisters are not just heroines, but mothers as well. As mothers,
all they wanted was for their boys and girls to grow up in a free country, a place where individuals
are respected and treated equally. Rafael Trujillos regime was the complete opposite, it was
nothing less than a dictatorship, in which one person ruled with tyranny and absolute control.
After all, what would be the point of living if you were always taken advantaged of or all those
you hold dear to your heart were taken away in front of your eyes? The meaning of being a
mother is virtually endless, yet the Mirabal sisters are selfless protectors who put themselves on
the front line of the rebellion, capable of being arrested, murdered or imprisoned at any time, in
hope of a better future for their children. Not enough credit is given to how much they treasured
each child, how deep their love was up to the point that they moved the world for them. Think
about it again and you will see that they were fighting for every parent s child and are the fire that

There are vulnerable groups that have significant problems in the health care system, due to this
population being made vulnerable because of their financial circumstances or place of residence,
health, age, race, mental or physical state. Access to health care across different populations are the
main reason for current disparities in the United States healthcare system. Moreover, with a large
amount attention being given to racial disparities in health, the meaning of race has come under

Frey and Osborne found that automation in the future will mainly substitute for low skill and

Working Poor Essay
The Struggle of the Working Poor
Revised Essay
Sociology 113
Yvonne Barney
October 19, 2012
The Struggle of the Working Poor
Society often describes the impoverished with one word, lazy. Society has taught us that if a
person wants to be financially successful, it is a simple process of education and hard work that
will equate to a successful income. This is the American dream. If the impoverished simply would
get a job instead of being lazy, they would not need to rely on programs like welfare. The
impoverished would succeed if they only would apply themselves. However, in an attempt to
present another point of view, The Working PoorInvisible in America by David K. Shipler (2004)
explored multiple variables this group struggles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chapter 9, Dreams, begins with the ambitious professional aspirations of sixth and eighth grade
children from poor families in Washington, DC. Shipler contrasts these aspirations with the
enormous faced problems beyond their control. Chapter 10, Work Works, is dedicated to the
positive impact that job training and working has had on some poor individuals and families. Job
training programs that teach soft skills as well as hard skills and are successful in instilling
confidence and self esteem are appreciated by employers. Chapter 11, Skill and Will, emphasizes
that American society must understand what it can do using the skills and resources it has to
combat poverty. The approach to remedying poverty, Shipler argues, must be holistic, tackling all
problems associated with it at once.
The United States is often described as a place where anyone can pick themselves up by their
bootstraps and realize the American dream of a comfortable lifestyle. But, for over 30 million
Americans, this dream is no longer possible. Though we live in the richest and most powerful
country in the world, there are many individuals who are living under or at the poverty level. While
the United States has enjoyed unprecedented affluence, low wage employees have been testing the
American doctrine that hard work cures poverty (Shipler, 2004). The status of poverty translates

The Effects Of Uvb Waves On Dna Bases
When someone tells you that too much sun is bad for you, they say that because they know that too
much sunlight causes cancer. Skin cancer is caused by mutations caused by ultraviolet radiation.
This Ultraviolet radiation is detrimental to the human body. Ultraviolet radiation has been
established as a genotoxic agent. A genotoxic agent is a chemical agent that damages genetic
information within the cell. This causes a mutation and the mutation may lead to cancer( Bianchi, J.
et al. 2013). But what exactly is ultra violet radiation?
The sunlight that reaches us is made up of two types of harmful rays: long wave ultraviolet A (UVA)
and short wave ultraviolet B (UVB) There s also a third type of ray, UVC, these are the shortest
and strongest, but they are absorbed by the ozone layer and don t typically reach the Earth (
Bianchi, J. et al. 2013). However, in many experiments UVC is used.
What We Already Know on Effects of UVB Waves on DNABases.
UVB radiation is the most energetic component of solar radiation that hits the earth s surface. The
main photochemical reactions within cellular DNA involve mostly the direct absorption of UVB
photons by the DNA bases, mostly pyrimidine constituents, including thymine, cytosine and the
minor 5 methylcytosine ( Bianchi, J. et al.).
It was also shown recently that purine bases may also be the target of UVB radiation, although to a
smaller extent, as the result of the direct absorption of photons within the wavelength range 290

The Cognitive Development Of Children
There are many different things that shape the cognitive development of children. To begin with
cognitive development is when a child develops how to process, solve problems, and start making
decisions. Once they have learned this they take everything they have learned into their
adolescence. An example, of what can shape the cognitive development of a child can be an
educational game. Educational games can be very useful in shaping a child s development because
they are having fun while learningat the same time and what kid doesn t like to playgames, the fact

Black Womanhood In The African-American Family
In 1908, W.E.B. Dubois explored the weakness among the black family in The Negro American
Family (1908) where he claimed that slavery destructed the African American family. Over a
century later, former President Barack Obama echoed the thoughts of W.E.B. Dubois stating that
too many fathers [are] missing missing from too many lives and too many homes... in the African
American community (Miller, 2010). There are two dominant reasons today for the weakness of the
black family the mass incarceration of the black man and the killing of the black man through
police brutality, all which root from institutionalized slavery in white America. The elimination of
the black man from African American families has affected black womanhood greatly. Historians
and scholars argue that a matrifocal (mother centered) family became typical of African Americans
both during slavery and after emancipation and has been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pros and Cons of Homework Essay
Homework: Does it Help, or Harm Us? When a class is almost over and a teacher starts assigning
homework, every student s heart drops. When students have an excess of homework, they do not
do as well. Even though homework is a good tool to help teachers teach students subjects, teachers
should give less homeworkbecause too much homework causes mental health issues in students
and less homework helps improve test scores. The first reason teachers should give students less
homework is that it takes away their childhood. When a student goes to school for seven hours a
day, and then goes home to three hours of homework, they do not get to be a kid. It is suggested
that student adopt an eight eight eight schedule. This schedule being eight... Show more content on

Assigning less homework in schools could reduce teen anxiety and teen depression rates (Kohn).
The next reason too much homework is harmful to students is that studies show more homework
to cause lower test scores. One to two hours of homework a week does not cause a major change
in test scores (Wolchover). There is no evidence of homework having any academic benefit in
elementary or middle school, and the academic benefit found in high school is very weak (Kohn).
Homework is not shown to help students academically until grades ten through twelve (Wolchover).
There is also no proof that homework increases good study habits in students (Kohn). On top of too
much homework making standardized test scores lower, much of this homework is just busy work
(Wolchover). Many teachers ask their student to re write pages in a textbook. This just causes the
student to spend time on something that has no real purpose. Remedial work has no positive
effect on students. It just takes up more time ( Too Much Homework Can Cause Stress,
Depression and Lower Grades, Studies Suggest ). Even homework that is useful in some way
should be limited. Studies show that a student s time is more useful when they play an instrument
or a sport. Parent s want their student to be good at many things. It is more important to be a well
rounded person than to ace all of your tests (Wolchover). One of the top

How Does Prospero Present The Power In The Tempest
Act 1 Scene 2 (15 190)
It is during this scene that we are introduced to Prospero as a figure of power through his magical
ability to be able to manipulate the world around him and his control over Miranda, Ariel and
Caliban. We also see Prospero s manipulation of the present by manipulating the past so that he can
enforce a certain perception into the minds of those around him. This is most evident when he
retells the story of his bothers usurpation, using terms such as perfidious , but then assuring
Miranda that he loved his brother. He repeatedly insists that Miranda focus on him, demanding her
attention Dost thou attend me? so that her attention focused completely on his biased version of the
events that occurred. However despite this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They now are in my power... Prospero again asserts his power over man, as his magic is a force
which they cannot match and thus makes him an unbeatable foe. However, the power he has is
of magical origin, so again he uses manipulation to get what he wants. As the play progresses we
are yet to see any element of Prospero that is not either focused on revenge, or on upkeep of
control and power.
Act 4 Scene 1
The scene contains The Masque of the play in which Prospero, though his magic, throws a
betrothal masque for Ferdinand and Miranda. However the masque is interrupted through as he
remembers the plot against his life. He is subsequently drawn from the illusionary world of the
masque and brought back to reality. However, the symbolic representation of leaving the illusion of
the masque is substantial in that is is representative of Prospero s entire reality. Yea, all which it
inherit, shall dissolve;
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Through the grandeur perfection of the masque Prospero
acknowledges that the world he has created through magic and power on the Island is nothing more
than an illusionary reality that is essentially insubstantial. This realization teaches Prospero that
even his powers have limits, and despite the fact that he has skillfully crafted the world around him
it is still imperfect.

Abstinence vs. Harm Reduction
Abstinence Vs. Harm Reduction
Drug policy regarding the control of the traditional illicit substances (opiates, cocaine, cannabis) is
currently moving through upbeat times in almost all Western countries. Prohibition on the basis of
repressive law enforcement not only seems to fail on a large scale, but also to create vast
additional costs, problems, and harm for drug consumers, who often find themselves in extreme
social, economic, and health conditions (Fischer 1995: 389). Western countries struggle with the
control of drug abuse. America, for example, has been failing with eliminating or reducing the
chronic issues of drug abuse and crimes associated with drugs. America s goal around these
problems consistently has been complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is just an alternative perspective to drug abuse because the American society s prohibitionist
ideologies pushed people to believe that abstinence was the only way to solving the problems of
drug abuse. For example, Benedikt Fischer talks about the benefits of the adoption of harm
reduction in Germany, in his article Drugs, Communities, and Harm Reduction in Germany: The
New Relevance of Public Health Principles in Local Responses. Similar to America, Germany
dealt with drug issues by applying the idea of abstinence. However, in the early 1980s, they have
modified their approach to drug controls from a strategy of repression and stigmatization of
drug users to a policy of what is currently discussed under the umbrella of harm reduction
(Fischer 1995: 393). After employing the harm reduction approach, registered drug users, deaths
related to drugs, and drug related crime has declined significantly. Although drug abuse and drug
related issues exist, one of the main goals of harm reduction was accomplished; reducing the
harm and risk of drugs. Fischer concluded that one is especially startled by how these relatively
dramatic changes and results could be accomplished in a political ideological environment of a
nation and culture characterized by a strong sense of prohibition and repression (Fischer 1995:
406). Therefore, due to the similar past policies on drugs, America will experience beneficial
changes if it

Contributions Of Qing Shi Huangdi s Adoption Of Legalism
Qing Shi Huangdi s adoption of Legalism was firm (those who opposed the ideology were often
executed or banished) and effective, as it led to various fundamental administrative and political
developments. For instance, unlike previous dynasties such as the Zhou, the Qin grew to be a
highly centralized state with a bureaucracy divided into three primary ministries: a civil authority, a
military authority, and a censorate ( World History ) The officials who assumed such roles were
examined by an inspection system to reduce the possibility of corruption, which would later serve
as the foundation administrative procedure for later dynasties. Furthermore, Legalismresulted in
these officials earning their powers rather than inheriting them. Research has speculated that a merit
system was probably employed in determining the positions such as an examination. Qin s favor of
centralization (perhaps brought by his adoption of Legalism) additionally led to advancements
outside of administration and political structure. For instance, he established systems that unified
standard measurements, emphasized on monetary values (collection of taxes and distribution of
estates included), as well as standardized the Chinese written language. He also organized the
construction of roads extending to and from his empire (one of his main achievements was
[bringing] together the scattered defensive battlements into what we now know as the Great Wall (

Comparing Comedy And Comedy
Martin Esslin s definition of drama says that it incorporates a well structured, economical and
unpredictable plot with no boundaries that entertains the audience and allows room for their own
interpretation. This is a basic definition. A vast variety of genres fall under the term drama. Two
forms that are most frequently talked about and compared are comedyand tragedy. Comedy and
tragedy shed light on differences in theatrical storytelling through their contrasting styles and
methods of presenting pieces of theatre. If genres of theatre were put on a spectrum, comedy would
fall on one end while tragedy would on the opposite. Comedy and tragedy are widely different. They
follow various contrasting dramatic constructs invoking the thoughts and emotions pertaining to
their genre.
A comedy is a piece of theatre that evokes a feel good response from the audience and allows them
to gently discover an underlying truth about human nature. It breaks expectations and increases a
level of awareness invoking the involuntary biological response of laughter. Laughter places the
audience in a vulnerable state. Laughter is gasping for air with no way of stopping until the
comedic effect is no longer amusing. For this vulnerable state to take into effect, the audience must
be willing to go along with the joke that the story is attempting to convey. Once the trust has been
built, and if this it is a satisfactory production, the successful sound of laughter will commence.

Classical and Operant Conditioning Case Study
Introduction
Learning is the act of changing an organism s behavior in response to an experience. Associative
learning is when an organism links two events that occur close in time. When an organism learns to
make associations, it is being conditioned. There are two types of conditioning. Operant
conditioning is when an organism associates an action and the consequence of that action. It results
in the organism adapting its behavior to maximize rewards and minimize punishment (Skinner). On
the other hand, classical conditioning is a type of learning where an organism associates a certain
stimulus and the response to it with a different stimulus. A neutral stimulus is associated with an

After not receiving a reward, and flicking herself several times, improvement was noted the
following day. She maintained good posture for nine hours, and was rewarded at dinner. On the last
day, she maintained good posture for twelve hours.
Discussion
The behavior that the girl was trying to minimize is a problem that many people suffer from.
However, like the girl, many people also change their behavior in certain circumstances. The girl has
learned to stand up straight through classical conditioning. When the girl was younger, the girl was
complimented by her parents when she sat up straight. The praise of her good posture was the
unconditioned stimulus, and the pleasure that she felt at this praise was the unconditioned
response. As the girl grew older, she would notice that her parents would praise her even more when
she had good posture and impressed an authoritative figure, such as a teacher or principal. The
authoritative figures that she associated praise with were the conditioned stimuli. As such, her
conditioned response was to sit up straighter when talking to an adult of authority. So, when she is
with an authoritative figure, she modifies her posture in an attempt to impress them. If nobody
cared whether someone had good or bad posture, then the action of straightening up would go
extinct. Extinction is when a conditioned response

The Correlation Between Two Hardships
Imagine your older sister was just diagnosed with Leukemia. How does that make you feel? How
do you think she feels? I wanted to research the thoughts and feelings someone who has cancer
might go through. From the research, I found depression to play a big role in the outcome of the
patient s therapies and quality of life with cancer. In fact, a study shows there is a direct
correlation between the two, which is quite fascinating; it amazes me how the brain, the body,
and the unconscious mind work together. This topic hits home when it comes to cancer. Sadly,
we have all lost someone to the deadly disease or know someone who is battling it right now. I ve
always wondered what my loved one might be feeling. Do they believe they can fight cancerous
cells or will they succumb to the illness and fall into depression? I find it upsetting to see the second
choice happen, but what if there was something we could do? These questions lead me to research
the correlation between two hardships: cancer and depression. In the event of being diagnosed with
cancer, one may experience many emotions, from anger to hatred, or sadness to even the feeling of
guilt. Along with emotional strain, a patient will experience treatments and therapies to help fight
the cancerous cells. The type of treatment cancer patients receive has multiple side effects,
including depression as a dominant effect. From these two different yet relatively relatable

China s Economic Development Through Experiments With...

practice is the sole criterion of truth . His mindset was that by practicing and experimenting with
different forms of production and ideas for entrepreneurship, China would be successful in finding

These goals were set in order to strengthen the fields of agriculture, industry, national defense, and

It is important to note that by surrender to the deity s power, the dominance over the woman is
sustained, even though it is shifted from the husband onto the worshiped being, as in
Obeyesekere s analysis of personally tormented Karuvanati Maniyo (Obeyesekere, 391). The
exact same model of control is present when the woman attempts to escape the boundaries
imposed by the community. Yellamma women are typically members of communities formerly
designated as untouchable, what directly suggests their social exclusion (Ramberg, 502). The
control the community has over these women, however, is somewhat erased when they become
the ecstatics in Yellamma cult. The social upgrade is marked by dominant caste devotees
obligation to touch the feet of Yellamma women in a gesture of humility in order to receive the
blessing of the devi (Ramberg, 506). Therefore, women are able to escape the discrimination by
another form of submission, marked either by social seclusion, as in case of Karuvanati Maniyo,
or by creating the direct bond with the deity in a rite of marriage, as for Yellamma ecstatics.

The Transfiguration By Matthew Told
The Transfiguration
The account of the transfiguration as Matthew told it, states: After six days... (Matt. 17:1). When
Mark wrote about this same event he also said, After six days... (Mark 9:2). However, when Luke
told the story, he said, After about eight days... (Luke 9:28).
Seemingly, there are folks who read the Bible for no purpose other than to search for flaws. Of
course, there are no mistakes in God s Word; nonetheless, there are those who have tried to
discredit its message and they have used these verses, concerning the number of days, in support of
their claim of a discrepancy.
However, there is no contradiction here. Seldom does any event begin at exactly the same
moment a day begins. There is almost always a portion of a day preceding a certain number of
whole days and a portion of a day following the whole days.
Matthew and Mark counted only the whole days. Luke recognized a part of the day that proceeded
the six full days and a portion of the day, which followed them.
Was it six days or about eight days? Both are correct. It s simply a matter of observing the same
period of time from different viewpoints.
Anyway, Jesus took Peter, James and John upon a high mountain. Although, the Bible does not
name the mountain, logically there are only two possibilities; Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon.
Peter called it The Holy Mountain (II Peter 1:18). Matthew and Mark both said they were up there
alone on a high mountain. (Matt. 17:1 Mark 9:2).

Stereotypes Of Women In Beowulf
As for social issues, the stereotypes of women are fairly apparent. Women seem to have a definite
roles and expectations. In one instance, it is mentions in the book that women are often married off
in order to settle tense relations between factions. One textual example read as:
Hrothgar will give her
To Ingeld, gracious Froda s son;
She and that ripening soldier will be married,
The Danes great lord and protector has declared,
Hoping that his quarrel with the Hathobards can
Be settled. (2023 2028)
This shows how women were used as an object, but most men in the epic were personified as
warriors or kings. In addition to this, Beowulf mentions how Grendel s mother could not be as
strong as him simply because she was a women. From the poem ... Show more content on

At another level, it is also a mode of analysis and politics, committed to freeing all women of gender
based oppressions (805). This ties into the theme of downplaying and obedience of women
throughout the epic. There is no mention of men walking throughout the mead halls serving the
other men, but Hareth s daughter took them through the hall, / Carried ale to her husband s
comrades (Beowulf 1981 1982). There seems to be a de facto state of women as the lesser sex
during this time. This may be due to the warrior culture that was apparent warrior culture that the
characters of Beowulf lived by. Lee and Daly s essay proposes the concept of universal female
subordination, of man the hunter, and woman the nurturer (30). It would be logical to assume that
one explanation for the patriarchal society of Beowulf would be the warrior culture. Even in today
s culture, it is not common for women to be a soldier. Lee and Daly concede that two parts are
social inequality and militarism (30). This may suggest that the positions of power that militarism
often grants men creates social inequality. This would seem to be even more painfully apparent
during a time such as the eighth century because it was the time of nights and

Happellate Court Cases
One aspect of the American judicial process about which consensus exists is that every loser in a
trial at court has the right to appeal to a higher court. But, sometimes the appeal process is
misunderstood. In the U.S. an appeal is not a retrial of the case, nor its ordinarily a
reexamination of true issues concluded by a trial court. The U.S. appellate courts does not hear
a new testimony and does not consider new evidence, they mainly focus on how the decision
was made in the trial court record. Their mainly goal is primarily to review the issue of law
presented in a case. An appellate court was created in part because of the theory that it is better to
have several heads when it comes to examining legal questions. In effect, the decisions of a single
judgematters of the law are forced to be reviewed by a panel of judges who are taken away from
the heat grown by the trial and are positioned to take a more overview of the legal questions
being raised. They control the functioning as multi member or collegial bodies, with decisions
made by a group of judges. In the courts, usually all the judges participate in all cases in appellate
courts the decisions are made up of using three judge panels, but in important cases, all the judges
may have to participate or referred to an en banc hearing. Finally, the complexities of the review
process, helps by asking why appellate courts exist and why dissatisfied litigants are able to appeal.

During the trial, a significant portion of decision making is spur of the moment. Luckily, judges
make fast decisions and sometimes mistakes occur, as recalling bodies, appellate courts supervise
the work of the lower courts, making sure that the law was correctly interpreted. But even though
the error correction functions of the appellate review it protests against capricious, mistaken legal
decisions by a trial court judge, or

Organizational leadership means the process of improving actions of line managers and decision
makers through better knowledge and understanding. To operate effectively, organizations need to
fit or align themselves with their environment, strategies, capabilities and leadership skills. To
compete successfully in highly competitive and constantly changing business environment,
however, organizations also need to achieve fitness and the ability to learn and change to fit new
circumstances. In other words, firms can lose their competitive advantage through the lapse of time,
therefore leadership skills are the only sustainable competitive advantage firms can have.
After a colleagues discussion, and a series research, we have decided that Hewlett Packard (HP)
will be the subject of our case study for the Organizational Leadership course project. Reason
being, the HP culture speaks, acts, and operates within their values, which will be further
elaborated in their motto that is widely shared at HP, The HP Way . The core organizational
values have been embedded and practiced by their employees over the years proves that HP is one
of the best learning organizations around today.
Hewlett Packard (HP) is one of those companies that have risen to the top. It is a well known
company with a good name and great financial successes. But is this company able to remain at
that top? Could HP avoid failures that follow success in many high tech

generations to come. You know, ISU has come a long way since my days on campus and with
every new program, accolade, or advancement I become even more proud to be a Redbird. Tonight

As you review our history, a pattern emerges. Periodic moments of greatness propel the university
forward to higher levels of excellence from Jesse Fell s visionary campaign to establish the Normal
School to President Bone s vision for a thriving, comprehensive university.
I have said this often over the last few years. Today, Illinois State is strong and stable. Our rich

Old Hueco Tanks Road Research Paper
Throughout the years roads have been a huge issue in the El Paso area. There have been many
road improvement projects suggested for the eastern part of El Paso county. Many roads have
begun to go under construction, but are they fixing the right roads? In the matter of Old Hueco
Tanks Road, there are many components missing; there s pretty much no road to begin with.
Old Hueco Tanks Road runs from Saint Peter and Paul s church on North loop to the beginning
of the Eastlake Road. This road isn t even a complete road to begin with. The Old Hueco Tanks
Road is composed of parts of a lost road, dirt, holes, and a decent amount of trash. This road is
very useful for the Socorro community, it leads you to the i 10, as well as to school if you
attend the El Paso Community College at Mission. As previously said the road is a mess, over
fifty vehicles have had an incident passing through this road. There is also a new attraction, El
Paso Cornmaze, which is on this road, but many deny to go due to the road being an issue.... Show

Brief Summary Of Christopher Browning s Ordinary Men
1This summary paper on Christopher Browning s Ordinary Men will provide a summary and an
overview of the main ideas of the text while attempting to focus on Browning s overall central
argument which revolves around these seemingly normal and ordinary men and how they were
transformed into murderers due to various elements. The summary paper will also be dedicated to
the overall significance of the book and its significance in relation to the history of the Holocaustas
a whole. Browning s novel is significant in generating a greater awareness towards the Holocaust
but more specifically providing awareness towards who the perpetrators were as Browning provides
an in depth examination into the ordinary men which were transformed into these mass murderers,
while centering his argument on how and why did these normal and seemingly ordinary men
transform into the mass murderers in which they became. The novel also takes the reader into an in
depth, detailed account of the horrific actions of the German battalion towards the innocent Jewish
population, as Browning details the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Browning outlines various ideas which may have triggered the transformation of these German
battalion men to change into the cold blooded murderers which they became. Browning cites the
fear of alienating oneself from the group or letting down your authority figure or power figure.
Browning also states that the battalion may have had no choice at all and were thrust into
becoming murderers with no room to escape. Lastly, Browning also ties in the psychological aspect
as well when attempting to argue how these normal and ordinary men were transformed into the

Reflection About Relationships
In the two years we have been together, my boyfriend, Andy, and I never talked about what we
considered cheating to be. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with
one of my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. I had told him in the past that I was not
comfortable with him being out with a girl late at night, but never fully elaborated on it. Realizing
that he had done something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and
kept his outing from me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no
boundaries to break. Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your
significant other about, but he sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your
significant other. He saw it as him doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was
nowhere near cheating. Our disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and
expectations for each other.
In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let
me know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in
contact with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always
comfortable with the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. He had complete trust in me and
never minded the time or the place. Growing up, his father had an intimate relationship with another
woman, so to him, that was

The Ring Of Monocromatic Houses Essay
The choice of the setting itself, narrowed by an architectonical ring of monocromatic houses,
echoes the same sense of claustrophobic immobility to which Jefferies is subject. While he is a
temporary prisoner whitin his own flat, his possibilities as an observer are similarly limited and so
are the spectators ones. Additionally, an intense orchestra soundtrack, involving either light hearted
violins and grave drums to fuel the viewers curiosity, is progressively softened as the characters
awake and start practicing their habits, according to the stereotyped lifestyle each of them
unconsciously embodies. Therefore, after the credits, a barely distinguishable threesome appears on
the top edge of the frame, standing on a corner terrace, as to represent its marginality. Subsequently,
the camera flows on the main building, enclosing its windows and producing a meta framing
mechanism, which might be defined as a cinematic matryoska effect. In the matter of the opening
scene, the framing arrangement is a pre eminent feature. The eye of the camera is always working
within the courtyard, occasionally shooting sparse glimpses from the road. One might find
interesting the initial state of the leading character, whose face is shown through a medium shot,
sleeping on a wheelchair he is temporarily confined to; in terms of perspective, this is the only
moment throughout the whole film in which the camera does not matches Jeffrey s view. The
viewers are provided with an autonomous

Lady Macbeth Persuasive Speech
Today I was told by the Weird Sisters that i would become Thane of Cawdor and soon King of
Scotland. I would love to become king but the things that i would have to do to achieve this are
out of the question. I hope Lady Macbeth does not find out about this because she would do
terrible things to get me to be king. I hope to one day be king of Scotland but without hurting
anyone. King Duncan already has abundant trust for me and I don t plan on breaking that like the
previous Thane of Cawdor did. It is my goal to become king one day, slowly but surely.
The witches were right, I have become Thane of Cawdor. I just hope they don t curse Duncan so i

The Consequences of Continued Use of Nuclear Power Plants...
The Consequences of Continued Use of Nuclear Power Plants in the USA
Introduction
According to the most conservative estimates, century energy consumption will double in the
world by the middle of the 21th century (Beretta). It will happen as a result of the population
growth and other geopolitical and economic factors. Thus, the electricity will be required in order
to receive a sustainable development of fuel hydrogen, and provide people with fresh water.
Despite the recent tragic events in Japan and a splash of public distrust to the peaceful atom ,
nuclear power continues to be one of the most promising areas. Demand for electricity, which is
growing along with the development of the world economy, requires the construction of new ...

9). Usually receiving the nuclear energy requires a nuclear chain reaction of nuclear fission of
uranium 235 or plutonium. Kernels start dividing after hit by a neutron. It provides new neutrons
and fission fragments. Neutrons and fission fragments have a high kinetic energy. Because of
collisions with other atoms fragments, the kinetic energy transforms into heat. Nuclear fusion is
another way to release nuclear energy. Two nuclei of light elements combine in one grave. Such
processes occur on the Sun. Many atomic nuclei are unstable. Over time, some of these nuclei
spontaneously convert into other nuclei, releasing energy. This phenomenon is called a radioactive
decay. Nuclear energy is produced in nuclear power plants, used in nuclear powered icebreakers
and nuclear submarines. The United States is running a program for developing nuclear engine for
spacecraft. Nuclear energetics is an energy sector, which is engaged in the production of electricity
and heat by converting nuclear energy.
Factors of the Development of Nuclear Energy
The first industrial nuclear power plant with capacity of 5 MW was put into operation in the
USSR (the city of Obninsk) in 1954 (World Energy Council 7). Advanced industrial countries
began to design and build nuclear power plants with reactors of different types. By 1964, the total
capacity of nuclear power plants rose to 5 million kW in the world.

  • 2. Strategic Problem And Issues Of The Performance Apparel... Strategic Problem and Issues: In the performance apparel market the top three competitors consist of Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour, with Nike leading the industry and Under Armour coming in last. The Challenge for Under Armor will be can they stand the pressure from their competitors as they expand into a bigger market. They must be able to provide their customers with either cheaper or better products, the companies marginal cost should be better than that of their competitors, and Under Armour must prove to their customers that their products are different and overall better than their competitors (Terfis Team, 2014). If they re able to succeed through these risk, then Under Armour will have a fighting chance of competing with those larger companies. Situation Analysis and Evaluation: Under Armour s goals is to make athletes better through Passion, Design and the Relentless Pursuit of innovation (UnderArmour, 2016). Under Armour is constantly developing new products that help achieve their goal of being innovative. In 1996, Kevin created workout gear that provides compression, wicks moisture, keeps athletes cool and dry, and allows them to feel not weighed down by making his clothing light. The company also provides their consumer with new technology, and accessories that assist in their physical performance. Their goal and objectives to be innovative is consistent with their mission. • 4. Implementing Best Procurement And Acquisition Practices In order to institutionalize best procurement and acquisition practices in an organization, I would begin by forming a cross functional team made up of supply management personnel, finance personnel, attorneys, human resources, engineers, and other subject matter experts. As was highlighted in chapter ___ of the class text, this is the best approach for ensuring that the broadest possible range of ideas and perspectives are incorporated early into the planning process. Additionally, it ensures that a great idea conceived of by one functional area is viewed from within the restrictions and/or limitations imposed by another. As with specifications development, this process allows the team to develop a reasonable, effective, and implementable plan that works across functional areas and provides the greatest return on investment. One company that has been particularly successful in implementing best practices is Toyota. I would adopt that companies approach to implementing best practices by delegating responsibility down to the lowest level. For example, if anyone on the factory floor spots a deficiency, he or she has the authority to stop the assembly line so that the condition and its contributing factors may be examined, recorded, and analyzed. This same principle could be applied to the acquisition process. By empowering rank and file purchasers, contract specialists, contract administrators, and quality control personnel to approach managementand provide input on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Lady Of Shalott, By William Shakespeare William Shakespeare s play Hamlet, has become a staple in contemporary society. Apart from the multitude of ingenious in this play, the character of Ophelia particularly places great importance on modern day woman. Ophelia s importance throughout the play has been many times viewed as only her relation to Hamletand the effect she has on him. Ophelia is important not just in this sense, but in respect of what she tells the reader about the society she lived in, in contrast to the society one lives in today. AlfredLord Tennyson s poem The Lady of Shalott, parallels closely to the life of Ophelia. Tennyson s poem written over 200 years after Hamlet, is about a young woman who lives on an island off the coast of Camelot. There is a curse... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ophelia is the most one sided yet consistent out of all the vital characters in Hamlet. She has great potential to be a tragic heroine and overcome the misfortunes forced upon her but instead, she slowly diminishes into insanity following Hamlet s contradictory treatment towards her, and murder of her father: She speaks much of her father, says she hears there s tricks i th world, and hems, and beats her heart, (Shakespeare, Hamlet, 4.5. 4 5). Ophelia is a young woman, with no womanly guidance to aid her. Her father Polonius, and brother Laertes, care for Ophelia and go to great lengths to preserve her innocence. Her loyalty to her father and brother is out of pure gratitude and appreciation for their concern. She obeys her father and brother s command not to see or accept any letters from Hamlet, despite her love for him: Polonius: This is for all: I would not, in plain terms, from this time forth, have you so slander any moment leisure, as to give words or talk with the Lord Hamlet. Look to t, I charge you (1.3.131 135) Ophelia: I shall obey, my lord . (1.3.136) Polonius believes he knows what is best for Ophelia, and it is his ego that initiates her antic disposition. Polonius is convinced, Hamlet s madness is due to Ophelia breaking ties with him. This theory is what drives Polonius to concern the king, Claudius, and use Ophelia as a pawn to get to the bottom of Hamlet s madness. Hamlet unravels their plan, and when encountered with ... Rosalind Franklin Dna Replication Because of her discovery of the B form of DNA, recognition that two states of the DNA molecule existed and defined the conditions for the transition, essentially being literally only two steps away from discovering the structure of DNA herself, Rosalind Franklin deserved to be a co winner of the 1962 Nobel Peace Prize Nobel Prize in Medicine for elucidating the structure of DNA in such a way that the mechanism for genetic replication was revealed. The x ray, or photograph that James Watson, Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins used, and was extremely viable in all three of their research, was a direct result of work carried out by Rosalind Franklin while at King s College in London. From these photographs, or x rays, she was able to draw a logical conclusion to the basic dimensions of DNA strands. Rosalind actually presented these findings at a lecture in King s College at which one of the eventual Prize winners, James Watson, were in attendance. Franklin tried to figure out how the double helix worked but wasn t able to. Without her permission, Franklin s co worker, Maurice Wilkins, secretly showed her photos to the American scientist Watson. He and Francis Crick, his British research partner, were trying to build a DNA model. When Watson saw the photographs, he realized that DNA is a double stranded helix and the two were able to complete the model. In 1953, the same year Rosalind left Cambridge, both Wilkins and Franklin published papers on their X ray data in the same journal issue with Watson and Crick s paper on the structure of DNA. Another article that I read helped me understand more of what Laszlo Bock is referring to when he says management needs to have a broader point of view. In this article The Evolution of Management, the author talks about the different styles of management that have been adopted by leaders to date and it seems that what used to work before just will not get the job done today. After a century of trying to control people, processes and information, we have come to a point in organizational history where we need to recognize that what worked before just simply isn t enough anymore. This goes to prove that over time just like everything else evolves our behaviors towards our colleagues has to evolve as well. And management has to learn the new behaviors of his/her employees. Griselda s husband, Walter, puts her through many trials in order to test her dedication and loyalty to him. He takes away both of their children, telling her that he is going to have them killed. Griselda returns home to her father, and Walter pretends to get his new bride ready to marry, which is really his daughter. Griselda assists with the wedding preparations. Walter then decides that Griselda is truly loyal to him, and tells her the truth. They then live happily ever after. It is probably easiest to see the comparison between Griselda and the biblical character of Job. It is easiest because Chaucer (or the clerk) makes mention of this comparison himself when he says: Men speke of Job, and moost for his humblesse,/ As clerkes, whan hem list, koone wel endite, / Namely of men, but as in soothfastnesse,/ Though clerkes preise wommen but a lite,/ Ther kan no man in humblesse hym acquite,/ As womman kan, ne kan been half sdo trewe/ As wommen been, but it be falle of new (149). • 15. Dangers Of Peer Pressure On Girls Dangers of Peer Pressure on Girls As a little girl I had much confidence about myself and felt I looked the best from my school as well as many other girls from my school. Nowadays, many girls are pressured into being perfect in a way they feel they will never accomplish. Little girls such as ten year olds have started to show low self esteemand hate to their body image because of the models that are being constantly promoted. As 10TV stated, When you were 10 or 11, you probably didn t give much thought to body image. Today, kids that age are worried more about looking like Barbie than playing Barbie. Girls are punishing themselves with cutting, going on extreme diets, and often kill themselves because they hate themselves. Girls are also seen wearing makeup at a young age to improve their facial features and think they will now finally be accepted in society as being perfect. A recent Mintel survey showed that six out of ten seven year olds wear lipstick, and two in five use eyeshadows. ( Pretty Pressure: Girls it pays to be pretty, but not too pretty. ) So even though social media is showing off beautiful women to give good advertisement, girls are being affected by constantly feeling down and wanting to fit into society and be accepted and seen as perfect, they hate themselves for not being pretty enough as celebrities that have gone through many surgeries to get that perfect image, and some cases have led to issues such as depression, cutting, eating problem, and ... After all, what would be the point of living if you were always taken advantaged of or all those you hold dear to your heart were taken away in front of your eyes? The meaning of being a mother is virtually endless, yet the Mirabal sisters are selfless protectors who put themselves on the front line of the rebellion, capable of being arrested, murdered or imprisoned at any time, in hope of a better future for their children. Job training programs that teach soft skills as well as hard skills and are successful in instilling confidence and self esteem are appreciated by employers. Chapter 11, Skill and Will, emphasizes that American society must understand what it can do using the skills and resources it has to combat poverty. The approach to remedying poverty, Shipler argues, must be holistic, tackling all problems associated with it at once. The United States is often described as a place where anyone can pick themselves up by their bootstraps and realize the American dream of a comfortable lifestyle. But, for over 30 million Americans, this dream is no longer possible. Though we live in the richest and most powerful country in the world, there are many individuals who are living under or at the poverty level. While the United States has enjoyed unprecedented affluence, low wage employees have been testing the American doctrine that hard work cures poverty (Shipler, 2004). Skin cancer is caused by mutations caused by ultraviolet radiation. This Ultraviolet radiation is detrimental to the human body. Ultraviolet radiation has been established as a genotoxic agent. A genotoxic agent is a chemical agent that damages genetic information within the cell. This causes a mutation and the mutation may lead to cancer( Bianchi, J. et al. 2013). But what exactly is ultra violet radiation? The sunlight that reaches us is made up of two types of harmful rays: long wave ultraviolet A (UVA) and short wave ultraviolet B (UVB) There s also a third type of ray, UVC, these are the shortest and strongest, but they are absorbed by the ozone layer and don t typically reach the Earth ( Bianchi, J. et al. 2013). However, in many experiments UVC is used. What We Already Know on Effects of UVB Waves on DNABases. UVB radiation is the most energetic component of solar radiation that hits the earth s surface. The main photochemical reactions within cellular DNA involve mostly the direct absorption of UVB photons by the DNA bases, mostly pyrimidine constituents, including thymine, cytosine and the minor 5 methylcytosine ( Bianchi, J. et al.). For example, Benedikt Fischer talks about the benefits of the adoption of harm reduction in Germany, in his article Drugs, Communities, and Harm Reduction in Germany: The New Relevance of Public Health Principles in Local Responses. Similar to America, Germany dealt with drug issues by applying the idea of abstinence. However, in the early 1980s, they have modified their approach to drug controls from a strategy of repression and stigmatization of drug users to a policy of what is currently discussed under the umbrella of harm reduction (Fischer 1995: 393). After employing the harm reduction approach, registered drug users, deaths related to drugs, and drug related crime has declined significantly. Although drug abuse and drug related issues exist, one of the main goals of harm reduction was accomplished; reducing the harm and risk of drugs. Fischer concluded that one is especially startled by how these relatively dramatic changes and results could be accomplished in a political ideological environment of a nation and culture characterized by a strong sense of prohibition and repression (Fischer 1995: 406). Contributions Of Qing Shi Huangdi s Adoption Of Legalism Qing Shi Huangdi s adoption of Legalism was firm (those who opposed the ideology were often executed or banished) and effective, as it led to various fundamental administrative and political developments. For instance, unlike previous dynasties such as the Zhou, the Qin grew to be a highly centralized state with a bureaucracy divided into three primary ministries: a civil authority, a military authority, and a censorate ( World History ) The officials who assumed such roles were examined by an inspection system to reduce the possibility of corruption, which would later serve as the foundation administrative procedure for later dynasties. Furthermore, Legalismresulted in these officials earning their powers rather than inheriting them. Comparing Comedy And Comedy Martin Esslin s definition of drama says that it incorporates a well structured, economical and unpredictable plot with no boundaries that entertains the audience and allows room for their own interpretation. This is a basic definition. A vast variety of genres fall under the term drama. Two forms that are most frequently talked about and compared are comedyand tragedy. Comedy and tragedy shed light on differences in theatrical storytelling through their contrasting styles and methods of presenting pieces of theatre. If genres of theatre were put on a spectrum, comedy would fall on one end while tragedy would on the opposite. Comedy and tragedy are widely different. They follow various contrasting dramatic constructs invoking the thoughts and emotions pertaining to their genre. A comedy is a piece of theatre that evokes a feel good response from the audience and allows them to gently discover an underlying truth about human nature. It breaks expectations and increases a level of awareness invoking the involuntary biological response of laughter. Laughter places the audience in a vulnerable state. Laughter is gasping for air with no way of stopping until the comedic effect is no longer amusing. When Mark wrote about this same event he also said, After six days... (Mark 9:2). However, when Luke told the story, he said, After about eight days... (Luke 9:28). Seemingly, there are folks who read the Bible for no purpose other than to search for flaws. Of course, there are no mistakes in God s Word; nonetheless, there are those who have tried to discredit its message and they have used these verses, concerning the number of days, in support of their claim of a discrepancy. However, there is no contradiction here. Seldom does any event begin at exactly the same moment a day begins. There is almost always a portion of a day preceding a certain number of whole days and a portion of a day following the whole days. Matthew and Mark counted only the whole days. Luke recognized a part of the day that proceeded the six full days and a portion of the day, which followed them. Was it six days or about eight days? Both are correct. Although, the Bible does not name the mountain, logically there are only two possibilities; Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon. Peter called it The Holy Mountain (II Peter 1:18). Matthew and Mark both said they were up there alone on a high mountain. (Matt. 17:1 Mark 9:2). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Stereotypes Of Women In Beowulf As for social issues, the stereotypes of women are fairly apparent. Women seem to have a definite roles and expectations. In one instance, it is mentions in the book that women are often married off in order to settle tense relations between factions. One textual example read as: Hrothgar will give her To Ingeld, gracious Froda s son; She and that ripening soldier will be married, The Danes great lord and protector has declared, Hoping that his quarrel with the Hathobards can Be settled. (2023 2028) This shows how women were used as an object, but most men in the epic were personified as warriors or kings. In addition to this, Beowulf mentions how Grendel s mother could not be as strong as him simply because she was a women. From the poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At another level, it is also a mode of analysis and politics, committed to freeing all women of gender based oppressions (805). This ties into the theme of downplaying and obedience of women throughout the epic. There is no mention of men walking throughout the mead halls serving the other men, but Hareth s daughter took them through the hall, / Carried ale to her husband s comrades (Beowulf 1981 1982). There seems to be a de facto state of women as the lesser sex during this time. This may be due to the warrior culture that was apparent warrior culture that the characters of Beowulf lived by. Lee and Daly s essay proposes the concept of universal female subordination, of man the hunter, and woman the nurturer (30). It would be logical to assume that one explanation for the patriarchal society of Beowulf would be the warrior culture. Even in today s culture, it is not common for women to be a soldier. Lee and Daly concede that two parts are social inequality and militarism (30). This may suggest that the positions of power that militarism often grants men creates social inequality. This would seem to be even more painfully apparent during a time such as the eighth century because it was the time of nights and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Happellate Court Cases One aspect of the American judicial process about which consensus exists is that every loser in a trial at court has the right to appeal to a higher court. But, sometimes the appeal process is misunderstood. In the U.S. an appeal is not a retrial of the case, nor its ordinarily a reexamination of true issues concluded by a trial court. The U.S. appellate courts does not hear a new testimony and does not consider new evidence, they mainly focus on how the decision was made in the trial court record. Their mainly goal is primarily to review the issue of law presented in a case. An appellate court was created in part because of the theory that it is better to have several heads when it comes to examining legal questions. In effect, the decisions of a single judgematters of the law are forced to be reviewed by a panel of judges who are taken away from the heat grown by the trial and are positioned to take a more overview of the legal questions being raised. They control the functioning as multi member or collegial bodies, with decisions made by a group of judges. In the courts, usually all the judges participate in all cases in appellate courts the decisions are made up of using three judge panels, but in important cases, all the judges may have to participate or referred to an en banc hearing. Finally, the complexities of the review process, helps by asking why appellate courts exist and why dissatisfied litigants are able to appeal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 47. Reflection About Relationships In the two years we have been together, my boyfriend, Andy, and I never talked about what we considered cheating to be. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with one of my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. I had told him in the past that I was not comfortable with him being out with a girl late at night, but never fully elaborated on it. Realizing that he had done something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and kept his outing from me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no boundaries to break. Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your significant other about, but he sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your significant other. He saw it as him doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was nowhere near cheating. Our disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and expectations for each other. In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let me know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in contact with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always comfortable with the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. He had complete trust in me and never minded the time or the place. Growing up, his father had an intimate relationship with another woman, so to him, that was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Ring Of Monocromatic Houses Essay The choice of the setting itself, narrowed by an architectonical ring of monocromatic houses, echoes the same sense of claustrophobic immobility to which Jefferies is subject. While he is a temporary prisoner whitin his own flat, his possibilities as an observer are similarly limited and so are the spectators ones. Additionally, an intense orchestra soundtrack, involving either light hearted violins and grave drums to fuel the viewers curiosity, is progressively softened as the characters awake and start practicing their habits, according to the stereotyped lifestyle each of them unconsciously embodies. Therefore, after the credits, a barely distinguishable threesome appears on the top edge of the frame, standing on a corner terrace, as to represent its marginality. Subsequently, the camera flows on the main building, enclosing its windows and producing a meta framing mechanism, which might be defined as a cinematic matryoska effect. In the matter of the opening scene, the framing arrangement is a pre eminent feature. The eye of the camera is always working within the courtyard, occasionally shooting sparse glimpses from the road. One might find interesting the initial state of the leading character, whose face is shown through a medium shot, sleeping on a wheelchair he is temporarily confined to; in terms of perspective, this is the only moment throughout the whole film in which the camera does not matches Jeffrey s view. The Consequences of Continued Use of Nuclear Power Plants in the USA Introduction According to the most conservative estimates, century energy consumption will double in the world by the middle of the 21th century (Beretta). It will happen as a result of the population growth and other geopolitical and economic factors. Thus, the electricity will be required in order to receive a sustainable development of fuel hydrogen, and provide people with fresh water. Usually receiving the nuclear energy requires a nuclear chain reaction of nuclear fission of uranium 235 or plutonium. Kernels start dividing after hit by a neutron. It provides new neutrons and fission fragments. Neutrons and fission fragments have a high kinetic energy. Because of collisions with other atoms fragments, the kinetic energy transforms into heat. Nuclear fusion is another way to release nuclear energy. Two nuclei of light elements combine in one grave. Such processes occur on the Sun. Many atomic nuclei are unstable. Over time, some of these nuclei spontaneously convert into other nuclei, releasing energy. This phenomenon is called a radioactive decay. Nuclear energy is produced in nuclear power plants, used in nuclear powered icebreakers and nuclear submarines. The United States is running a program for developing nuclear engine for spacecraft. Nuclear energetics is an energy sector, which is engaged in the production of electricity and heat by converting nuclear energy. Factors of the Development of Nuclear Energy The first industrial nuclear power plant with capacity of 5 MW was put into operation in the USSR (the city of Obninsk) in 1954 (World Energy Council 7). Advanced industrial countries began to design and build nuclear power plants with reactors of different types.
