Biography of Hieronymus Bosch
Hieronymus Bosch was born at the beginning of the Renaissance just after the end of the Dark
Ages. Bosch was born in the netherlandish city of Hertogenbosch. Hertogenbosch is where Bosch
got his last name. Bosch lived, grew up and died in Hertogenbosch. He never left the city, it is
surprising that his artwork became famous. Bosch came from a family of painters. His father, uncle,
and grandfather were all painters, unfortunately none of their works survived.
Bosch joined the Brotherhood of Our Lady, a local religious organization devoted to the Virgin
Mary, around 1486. Some of his first commissions came through the Brotherhood ,but
unfortunately, none of those works survived. He then married Alety Goyaerts den Meervenne. Her
family was wealthy so this union improved Bosch s social status.
Bosch s most famous painting is the Garden of Earthly Delight. It has amazing imagery and
exaggerations and also contained many vivid scenes. Few painters packed more detail into their
work than Hieronymus Bosch. The wings of Bosch s triptych open to reveal a color filled interior
bursting with strange architecture, unnatural landforms, and all types of hybrid creatures. In the
main part of the left hand panel, God the Father stands between the naked figures of Adam and
Eve, surrounded by various flora and fauna. This is the Garden of Eden, though the scene has a
dark side. In the distance, an animal tears at the flesh of his prey. Another one of Bosch s famous
paintings was the Last

The Views of Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen on War Essay
The Views of Rupert Brooke and Wil
My selected poems are The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce et
Decorum est by Wilfred Owen. Both war poems but conveying their different feelings and
presenting their views of war in radically different ways.
The poets have polarized views of war with Rupert Brooke writing his poem in a romanticized and
patriotic way referring to the possibility of death as a noble cause, for England the land that gave
him life.
This is at odds to how Wilfred Owen views the reality and horror of war. The poets choice of title
Dulce et Decorum est which translated means It is lovely and honourable to die for your country
which in its self is irony, misleads you to think that the poem is going to ... Show more content on

The rest of the stanza continues to describe the men and the things they saw and sounds they heard:
Drunk with fatigue, deaf even to the hoots
Of Gas shells dropping softly behind
The use of the word Drunk is trying to emphasise that the soldier s were acting oblivious to the
happenings around them as if they weren t conscious and even deaf to the sounds of bombs.
In the second stanza the poet portrays an ecstasy of fumbling meaning he creates a huge panic of
all the men trying to apply their gas masks in time and illustrates the image of one soldier who
didn t get his mask on in time.
Gas! Gas! Quick boys An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets
This is the only quote of one of the men saying something and adds to the image of the rush they
were in. The adjective clumsy is used trying to describe how awkward the helmets were to put on,
and how much of a hassle they were to put on.
One of the men in this poem didn t get his mask on in time and was left by the rest in pain,
screaming and becoming weak:
But someone was still yelling out and stumbling
The word someone is used there because Owen is trying to show the man as being just another
soldier. He was nothing special in that he died for his country but no one remembers him as a hero,
just one of the thousands of men who died.
Owen then says how the someone was yelling out for help, for a soldier to come and rescue him
and help him

Strategies For Preventing Guns From The Streets Of New Haven
For years, people in New Haven have been brainstorming strategies to help prevent gun violence in
the communities. With the identifying the factors contributing to gun violence, community
organizers have come up with strategies that are specifically related to them. The main priority is to
completely remove guns from the streets of New Haven. Right now, there are two gunbuy back
programs in New Haven that are lead by Yale New haven Hospital and the New Haven Police
Department (City Wide). The purpose of this program is for people to turn in un registered guns
and receive money in return. Some argue that the gun buy back program does not prevent gun
violence because they are taking guns from law abiding citizens who would never use them in a
crimeand do not reach those who are likely to use them in a crime (Cameron). In New Haven,
guns in the streets travel from people to people and at some point, it can fall into the hands of a
person who is anticipating on shooting someone. That is all that it takes. One of the most
successful gun buy back programs held in new Haven was August 6, 2016. That day, The New
Haven Police Department was able to retrieve one hundred and twenty seven operable firearms.
They took in eighty five handguns, thirty eight rifles and shotguns and four assault weapons
(Wilkins). In the past five years, the New Haven Police Department has collected over five
hundred guns from the gun buy back programs. Going along with the strategy to remove guns off of

The Mental Capacity Act 2005
Answer: Introduction: The Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA 2005) introduced a statutory
framework for advance decision making in England and Wales building upon the common law
recognition of advance decisions. Academics considered that a bias may operate against
upholding advance decisions refusing life sustaining treatment 1. It s commonly felt that judges
usually give decisions favouring preservation of life and making advance decisions invalid on
various grounds. Recent case law indicates that a high level of specificity is required for advance
refusals of life sustaining treatment and, in some capacity must be demonstrated at the time of
making the decision. This essay will argue the legal back ground of the advance decisions and
relevant case law. There are suggestions that advance care planning (ACP) instead of advance
decisions (ADRT) may be more helpful when it comes to the practice of law on ground 2. The
Mental Capacity Act 2005: The MCA 2005 introduced the statutory framework for the advance
decisions as follows: A decision made by a person ( P ) after he has reached 18 and when he has
capacity to do so, that if (a) at a later time and in such circumstances as he may specify, a specified
treatment is proposed to be carried out or continued by a person providing health care for him, and
(b) at that time he lacks capacity to consent to the carrying out or continuation of the treatment, the
specified treatment is not to be carried out or

The Importance Of Homeostasis And A State Of Equilibrium...
All living things strive towards one goal: homeostasis. Homeostasis is a state of equilibrium
reached through physiological processes. In order to maintain homeostasis, living things use cells,
tissues, organs, and organ systems to counteract physical changes. Using a variety of different
tissues, organs are formed to accomplish specific tasks. The four main types of tissuesare epithelial
tissue, connective tissue, muscular tissue, and nervous tissue. Several sublevels exist for each
type of tissue. Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and lines body cavities. The three main
kinds of Epithelial tissue are squamous which is composed of flat cells, cuboidal, which is
composed of cube shaped cells, and columnar which is composed of stretched, pillar like cells.
Each type of epithelial tissue can be either simple or stratified. Simple is one layer of cells, while
stratified has more than one layer. Each type can also be glandular. Glands can be either one
epithelial cell or multiple cells. Its purpose is to secrete products into different parts of the body or
outside of the body. Exocrine glands secrete their products into ducts or directly into a tube/cavity.
Endocrine glands secrete their products directly into the bloodstream. Examples of epithelial tissue
are the linings of lungs, kidneys, small intestine, and the nose. A common trait that all epithelial
tissue have is that they are attached to the basement membrane, a thin layer of proteins that anchors
to connective

Essay about Grocery, Inc. and Uniform Commercial Codes
Grocery, Inc. Presentation Week five provided Learning Team A the opportunity to review and
analyze seven case scenarios regarding Grocery, Inc. These case scenarios include, Grocery, Inc.
Uniform Commercial Codes (UCC), renovation, minor employee, Gap Filing Rule, employee

The scenario also provides informative knowledge pertaining to understand the legality of specific
performance. To understand whether company premise is plausible, one must first under the facets
of commercial impracticability and specific performance. Commercial impracticability. UCC can
enforce commercial impracticability rule when the seller cannot deliver goods within agreement as
per contract. Commercial impracticability may also be enforceable when the seller faces
unexpected events. These events must affect the contract directly (Melvin, 2011, p. 193). Specific
performance. UCC allows buyers to acquire a court order to require the breaching party to
complete contract as per negotiated and agreed (Melvin, 2011, p. 198). Company A started
renovating the store on Main Street in My Town, U. S. A. for Grocery, Inc. However, Company A
business increased beyond anticipation. Therefore, to meet its obligation to Grocery, Inc. to oblige
renovation within six months, the company sub contracts to Company B. Unfortunately, Company
B had a reputation of poor work performance. Grocery, Inc. was not aware that Company A had
delegated Company B to continue the renovation. Grocery, Inc. ascertains the occurrence of this
transaction after monitoring the quality of workmanship. However, Grocery, Inc. dismay, caused

What Is The Theme Of The Bird And The Arras
The Bird and the Arras, is a poem written by Anne Finch, Countess of
Winchilsea (1661 1720), she has always been a recognised author, but the recognition of her works
have been revived in the last years. Her poetry reflects her thoughts and personal experiences, but
also the social and political situation of the era (18 th century,
England). As in the case of the poem The Bird and the Arras , the author describes the situation of
the women of the time by the using of the symbol of the bird. During the poem, the room where
the bird is trapped, which has a high ceiling, has an arras, and the bird tries to follow the birds that
appear on the arras. As a consequence of trying to follow the birds that appear ... Show more content

Till some kind hand directs the certain way we can find a synecdoche, kind hand could be God s
hand which will take her (the bird) to heaven, with this detail we can fathom that women were
trapped in society, as heaven seems to be the only way to freedom they can find. The use of
Heav n has a special meaning that confirms what mentioned before; the poet has chosen the use
of Heav n instead of sky to reinforce the idea that it is the only way to freedom. The room where
the bird is could be interpreted as a marriage, where the woman is nullified or it can represent a real
room.
Secondly, from the analysis made above, we can get to several interpretations of the poem. On a
literal way the poem is describing how a bird tries to escape from a room because it is lock in it,
which is a dramatic situation, as it is described in the poem.
The first interpretation, is that she will be free when she dies, as every time she tries to reach
freedom fails And leads to ample space, the only Heav n of Birds . The second is more pessimistic
as it concludes that she will never be free, as every

Ancient Greek Instruments
Most people know of ancient Greece for their food, Olympics, gods and goddesses. There is more
to Greece than that though. Greeks loved music and dance and thought of it as a gift from the
gods. In addition, the Greeks created theater. To start, music was a gift from the gods and was
played at religious ceremonies. Few written records of the music they played still exist. On the other
hand, the instruments the Greeks played are well known today. The most popular instruments were
the pipe and wind instruments. Out of the wind instruments, the most popular were the aulos (flute)
and the lyre. The most popular stringed instruments were the oboe and clarinet. The lyre produced
a low, deep sound and was played by men of noble birth to accompany... Show more content on

usually outdoors and were called amphitheaters. The Epidaurus theater in Greece is still intact and

the theater was known as the orchestra. Behind the orchestra was a building where the actors could

War, By Kate Daniels
While flipping through a historical magazine, a viewer observes the pictures of destroyed villages,
fields covered in debris or bodies, and survivors walking around shocked by what they just
experienced. Then one picture catches the eye. There is a screaming, naked girl running towards
the camera. The girl is young, thin and helpless. She is runningfrom the bombs and the black smoke
in the background. There are soldiers on the sidelines walkingwith their heads down. Viewers
cannot exactly pinpoint what the photo is telling them, but the image lingers in their minds for a
little while pondering how something so awful could have happened to that girl or why events, like
this one, take place. In both the photograph, Trang Bang, and the Poem, War, by Kate Daniels,
there are many ideas to think about. One idea is the distribution of power. Many times the idea of
power is elusive and can lead readers to misinterpret the art piece s true intentions. In the
photograph and the poem readers observe that the running naked child seems to be powerless
over the situation she is experiencing. Even though the readers may imagine themselves as
powerless as well, they are not actually powerless; they are powerful. Through the poem, readers
begin to see their role, as readers, that they play in the event and the power that they encompass to
be able to read and live in a world where they do have these capabilities. By recognizing the power
that readers can act and make decisions, they

Poverty happens everywhere around the world and most people think that getting to that point

drops 27%. Most people that are single mothers or even single parents in general suffer the most
and can t afford any type of insurance and have to somehow afford even a house. Because of the
amount of people who can t afford health insurance, 18,000 americans die because of the lack of

Business Plan Proposal
Business Plan Proposal
Introduction
The development of start ups is an important business activity that requires effort, time, and
financial resources. It is important to correctly establish the resources that are required by opening
a business in order to be able to successfully reach the objectives established for businesses in each
situation. In this case, the business plan refers to developing a restaurant that focuses on providing
meals that are based on organic foods.
The benefits of organic foods are well known. There are numerous studies in the field that have
identified the benefits that organic foods have on individuals health. There are also numerous
studies that reveal the effects that fast food has on people. Certain governments in different
companies develop campaigns intended to increase awareness on such issues, and to modify the
eating habits of people in these countries. However, it is difficult to reach this objective when
customers have numerous fast food restaurants to choose from. These restaurants provide fast
service at smaller prices, and this is what most customers want.
Therefore, it is important that food providers participate in campaigns developed by governments in
their attempt to improve eating habits. Restaurants that provide healthy food have a better image on
the market in comparison with fast food restaurants. But health food is considered to be more
expensive. This refers to higher production costs, increased costs of

Comparison Of Christmas And Hanukkah
From December 1st to the 31st there are many holidays celebrated. Christmas and Hanukkah both
play huge roles in this season. They may have many differences, but they both make us come
together as a whole and make memories that last a lifetime. It s the most wonderful time of the
year! As many people sing throughout the season. All around the world there are many who look
forward to celebrating their religion. But do we know the true meaning of Hanukkah and Christmas
? Christmas is a christian holiday that celebrates the birth of jesus. Who they believe is the son of
god. God sent him to come to serve and teach about his father and his religion. However,
Hanukkah celebrates the eight candles that stand lit on the mendora for a whole eight days.
Antiochus (a king) tried to take over Israel and force them to practice his religion. He destroyed
all buildings and items that were to practice other religions. But a group of jewish soldiers fought
back and won Israel. When going through the buildings they were shocked to see the candles on
the menora still lit, and stayed lit for 8 days. They saw this as a sign of god. But, they do have
things in common. Hanukkah and Christmas involve gift giving and other unique rituals. Both

Decorations they include are green evergreen, fake snow, white colors, ornaments, tinsel, mistletoe.

the midst of the horrible, unethical lifestyle, she was informed that her grandfather had

alone in the world since he was the only loyal person by her side. As she had done in the past, she

Four Parenting Styles
When we are discussing parent methods we need to be aware there are many factors that affect
how parent develop their children. There is a social factor that affects how we develop our child.
This different factor affects parents and how they believe a child should act and behave. Mothers

The Church Of The Martyrs
A church without youth is a church without a future. Moreover, youth without a church is youth
without a future. this is a quote from the former pope of Alexandria, Pope Shenouda III. Pope
Shenouda passed away about four years ago and his episcopate lasted for over 40 years. The
Coptic church has commonly been referred to by historians as the Church of the Martyrs (A Brief
History of the Christian Church). It was given this name due to the desire of martyrdom rather than
the multitude of martyrs. The five main points of its history are the origins of Coptic Orthodox
Christianity, monasticism, contributions to Christendom, the ecumenical councils and the church
today. It is believed that the Coptic church of Egypt was the first church ever created; it was
founded by Saint Mark in approximately 42 AD. (Osman) Saint Mark is also considered to be the
first bishop and pope of Alexandria. However, it wasn t until the late second century when
Christianity was truly established in Egypt. During the second century the roman emperors had
begun to persecute the Coptic Orthodox Christians formerly known as Copts; yet as previously
stated these Copts would not hide, instead they would openly worship unafraid of death, because
it is said that martyrdom isn t the end of a life, it is believed to be an entry to a new life. The very
first persecution against the Copts was in 68 AD when Saint Mark suffered martyrdom by pagan
extremists. Then for seven years in the early second century

Analysis Of Shakespeare s Othello
An Analysis of Othello by Shakespeare
Shakespeare is known for his use of recurring themes throughout his work, including love, death
and betrayal. These themes are present in his work of Othello. However, the most fundamental
issue is jealousy. The lives of the characthers in Othello are ruined by jealousy from the beginning
to the end of the play. The telling of the story is carried out by passion, jealousy, and death.
Shakespeare s Othello reveals devastating tragic inevitability, stunning psychological depth, and
compelling poetic depth; the fragility and mysterious power of love, as well as demons of doubt,
and how suspicion can be triggered by manipulative villain (Barthelemy 12).
In the play, evil intentions destroy what we know of a pure heart as well as trust and genuine
honesty by this falsehearted deception. The agony of the tragic play is captured in a nutshell
when Othello admits to Desdemona when I love thee not/chaos is come again. There is some
misunderstanding of tragedy of love between the two characters. Trust is misplaced, honesty
smeared out and finally, lives are ruined by denigrating fabrications and outright lies (Lupu, Jeffrey
and Westmaas Jones 12). The tragic cautionary of Shakespeare offers a supreme warning over
jealousy which is referred as the green eyed monster with doth mock the meat it feeds on.
At First , Roderigo is envious of Othello because he wanted to be in love with Desdemona. This is
the beginning of jealousy which runs

Comparing The Holy Bible And The Greek Myth
Mankind is destroyed. Few humans are left. The earth was flooded and all perished, save for the
righteous. The world was judged and found wicked, and so it was drowned. A new start is to be
made. There are two flood stories like this from ancient times: the Holy Bible s account and the
Greek myth. Both are strikingly similar, in that the worldwas punished for its wickedness by being
flooded. In each of the flood stories, the cause of the flood, the circumstances, and the aftermath
are very nearly the same. The world was wicked. And so the world had to be punished. In the
Bible s account, all of mankind was corrupt. Man s imagination and heart was incessantly evil. It
grieved God s heart, because He had created these people, and they turned from Him and... Show

Therefore, He decided to destroy mankind and start anew. However, there was one man who
found grace in the eyes of God, and his name was Noah. Noah alone was a righteous man who
walked with God. Because of this, God spared Noah and his family, and instructed him to build an
ark in order to preserve life on the earth. God wanted mankind to continue, but those that were on
the earth at that time were so corrupt, they needed to be destroyed. In the Greek myth, mankind
was again found to be wicked. This wickedness was exemplified by Lycaon, a tyrant king who
scoffed at Zeus s power and attempted to kill him in his sleep in order to see if he really was a
god or not. Lycaon also killed a man and butchered him, putting him in a stew served to Zeus.
Unlike God, who is omniscient and knew the people s hearts, Zeus had come to visit Lycaon in
human form, in order to see how wicked he really was. It was during that visit that Lycaon
showed how terrible he truly was. Zeus destroys Lycaon s home, and as he is fleeing, he is

Is American Football Better Than Rugby
American Football is better than Rugby because in Football there are four chances to get a first
down and run down the field to get a touchdown and makes the game more exciting when the
teams try to get a first down and it makes players able to make amazing plays.
American Football is a game where there are two teams with an offense, who are trying to score a
touchdown by either running the ball, or throwing the ball into the endzone to get a touchdown
while the defense are trying to stop them. The objective of the game is to be the team with the
most points. The Offense has a quarterback who is trying to either throw the ball to the Wide

American Football resulted from different changes to a Soccer match in Britain. It came from the
multiple rule changes from Walter Camp (Father of Football) a student from Yale University. Along
with the rule changes came the line of scrimmage and the down distance. Along with a couple
other guys, Camp helped create the forward pass play. The first pro football can be traced back to

Rugby is a sport where the objective is to carry or kick the ball towards the other team s goal.
This is called a try. One team can run forward and only pass the ball backwards and sideways.
The play can keep going on if someone is tackled, either they throw it or they pass the ball to one
of their teammates. The attacking has a total of six tackles before a possession is changed. Ball

An Analysis Of The Red And Black House
Two stand before you. One, on the right, a blue and black bungalow. Next to it, a red and black
house. They stand apart from the rest on the block.
So here are the two houses for sale. They are exact mirrors of each other on the outside, but differ
vastly on the inside. Let us start with a tour of the house on the right, the Realtor says.
He opens the door and in the entryway is a massive chandelier with sapphire crystals, resembling a
star lit sky.
You might notice how open everything is. This is because he liked being able to see everything
before him. He also loved to have guest over because he was a people person, which of course was

The Realtor then guides you to the master bedroom. There is a king bed with a blue duvet and a
surround sound system. There is no tv.
Ah, you might be wondering why there is no tv, but a whole surround system. It is because of that.
The Realtor points at stereo. Next to it a massive collection of Electric Light Orchestra is seen with
a few other familiar names like Queen, The Stones, and some more contemporary music.
Apart from everything he loved, the thing he loved most, if you could not tell already, was
spreading his interests to others so they can experience the same love for it as he did and no one is
left out.
I am taken to the den after he shows the other bedrooms.
He loved dogs. The Realtor says. The bed still has black hairs on it with a lot of chew toys and
squeaky balls.
You then step outside and into the house on the left. As the Realtor explained, the houses may be
mirror image, but the insides are very different. There is no open concept area. The rooms feel
smaller, quieter. Clearly the owner of this house lived a very different life than his neighbor.

Narrative Essay On Coptic Americans
As we pulled into 145 Oak Street, Natick, MA on Christmas Eve 2011, instead of being greeted
by fellow church parishioners, we were greeted by armored soldiers equipped with M4 Carbine
assault rifles. Instead of Honda Odysseys and Ford Focuses filling the adjacent parking lot, a
giant tank loomed over the empty spots. I was only twelve and was very confused. I had never
experienced such trouble simply going to church any other Sunday. What made this time so
different? Now, flashback almost two weeks. Since the Coptic calendar is arranged to celebrate
Christmas on January 7, this would be around the time of Western Christmas. Tensions in Egypt
were on the rise, and the Coptic community could sense that something was going to happen.
Unfortunately, something did. On New Year s Eve 2011, twenty three Coptic Orthodox Christians
were killed in an attack on a church in Alexandria and a hundred more were injured. Despite the

people painted on the walls of the ancient churches. These walls had been scratched, shot at, burned,
and defaced throughout years of Christian persecution, but they still stood tall. These murals have
survived the test of time because they hold the stories of those whose strength transcended the

Gabriela Kaczmarczyk was my student for two years of high school (11th and 12th grade).
Throughout those years, she made herself known as an extremely energetic person, exuberant
even. She always took active part in my lessons, willingly participating in any kind of
discussion. Her ideas, given the topic, were always relevant. She is the girl who encouraged her
fellow students to speak up, or even to argue their point, for she herself is an excellent speaker.
While working on a broad spectrum of cultural texts, her conclusions are most of the time
genuinely original. She tends to look for unique answers, her judgments are both fresh and
controversial. On the other hand, even given her spontaneity, Gabriela s personal culture is
spotless, and the same can be said about her approach to discussion. She has never offended
anyone, for she is accepting of all sorts of judgments and opinions. Gabriela was not only active
during my lessons, but also took part in many extracurricular activities, the most notable being a
literary contest. She wrote a story, which showed her creativity, also earning her the third place.

Research Paper On The Roaring Twenties
The Roaring Twenties The Roaring Twenties were an age of exciting and new developments
starting from The Birth of Mass Culture, The New Women, Prohibition, The Culture Civil War,
Jazz and Blue Music and The Renaissance. This age was a time of change in multiple ways, many
were more serious than others. The 1920swere an age of dramatic and political change for instance.
The 1920s brought more of a conflict than celebration to the nation, and its wealth. For the first time
in the nation s history, more Americans lived in cities than farms ( History.com Staff, The Roaring
Twenties) . Although the U.S.A. did not enter the First World War until April 1917, the conflict
cast a shadow over American society that would take a while to pass. There was a brief
economic recession at the start of the 1920s, but as the decade moves on, the economy boomed
and America began the age of consumerism. However, for many Americans, the 1920s was a
decade of poverty. More than 60 per cent of Americans lived just below the poverty line. (BCC,
The Roaring Twenties) . The U.S started the 20th century as a country with enormous potential,
and finished the century as the world s only superpower. Yet there are two ways of looking at this
powerful nation in the 1920s. Either as a wealthy country with a high standard of living, big cars
and large houses, or as a country with many people living in poverty and some enduring terrible
racism (BCC, The Roaring Twenties) . During the 1920s, many Americans

Themes In The Rape Of Lucrece
In The Rape of Lucrece, there is one theme throughout the poem, and that is to conquer. The
themes of war, violence, and the evidence of Tarquin s sexual conquest remain constant. However,
this is present specifically with the physical rape of Lucrece itself and the parading of her body
around Rome after her death. The constant air of sex and power dominates this poem. Lucrece is
used as a political symbol that must be conquered throughout the entirety of the reading. The Rape
of Lucrecedisplays the idea of male dominance and female silence in Tarquin s powerful rage and
Lucrece s ability to be dominated.
In the time of the Renaissance society, men often held positions of power over women. Women
were not seen as having an independent voice, as they were often seen as property of their fathers
before they were married. In The Rape of Lucrece, Tarquin is able to control Lucrece and silence
her. The physical act of raping her is able to dominate her physically and emotionally, and that is
what remains constant throughout this poem. If Lucrece has anything, it is her chastity which
holds great power, and that is stolen from her in such a grotesque way.
However, before the physical act can occur there are several obstacles that must be conquered
before Lucrece herself can be taken. This adds to the idea constant idea of war and power
through conquest. The locks between her chamber and his will, each one by him enforced,
retired his ward; But as they open they all rate his ill. Which drives the creeping thief to some
regard. The threshold grates the door to have him heard (302 306). This scene is the first obstacle
that must be overcome in the attempt to proceed with his final act. The locks to her door are
squeaky as they open, threatening to reveal Tarquin. The threshold rubs against the opening of the
door, also attempting to make his presence known. Through little vents and crannies of the place
the wind wars with his torch to make him stay, and blows the smoke of it into his face (310 312).
Here, a second challenge is presented. His torch is extinguished, which will make him unable to
see in the dark night, but he moves forward, determined to conquer each of these new obstacles.

Nuremberg Trial In Criminal Justice
The history of international trials is largely limited to the Nuremberg Tribunals and the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. However, these limited historical
precedents, with an imperfect body of jurisprudence from which to draw, afford one objective: the
search for justice. This justice, however, is victim to the political will that drives trials (Goldstone,
quoted in Historical Evolution From Nuremberg to the International Criminal Court ). Thus,
although justice is usually the preeminent focus for a post conflict society, it is also the most

Civilization and Its Discontents, by Sigmeund Freud Essay...
Civilization and Its Discontents is a book written by Sigmund Freud in 1929 (originally titled Das
Unbehagen in der Kultur or The Uneasiness in Culture.) This is considered to be one of Freud s
most important and widely read works. In this book, Freud explains his perspective by enumerating
what he sees as fundamental tensions between civilization and the individual. He asserts that this
tension stems from the individual s quest for freedom and non conformity and civilization s quest
for uniformity and instinctual repression. Most of humankind s primitive instincts are clearly
destructive to the health and well being of a humancommunity (such as the desire to kill.) As a
direct result, civilization creates laws designed to prohibit... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Freud theorizes that this oceanic feeling is a regression into an earlier state of consciousness
before the ego had differentiated itself from the world of objects. Freud also theorizes that the
religious oceanic feeling arises from the infant s helplessness and the longing for the father and
imagine[s] that the oceanic feeling became connected with religion later on. In other words, the
oceanic feeling is not a genuine religious experience, though people experience it that way.
Throughout the rest of the book, Freud addresses the conflict between civilization and the
individual. He starts with the fundamental paradox of civilization: we created civilization as a
tool to protect ourselves from unhappiness; however it is our largest source of unhappiness. He
also points out that contemporary technological advances have been a mixed blessing for human
happiness. He also asks what the purpose of civilization is if it is not to satisfy the pleasure
principal. He later concedes that civilization has to make compromises of happiness to fulfill its
primary goal of bringing people into peaceful relationships with each other, by making them subject
to a higher, communal authority. Freud included a cornucopia of various themes in this book. The
first of these is the recurring theme of the primal father and his psychological heritage. This is one
of Freud s most controversial cultural speculations. Freud proposes that human societies were

King Louis XIV is a regal king who values order and beauty; That is why he should purchase

Suleiman said, ВЁControl of emotions or lack of control causes empires to flourish or fall.ВЁ The

Haile Selassie is the living God. All true Rastafarians believe that Haile Selassie, the emperor of

Flume Drop Essay
Harley Edward Streten, aka Flume, is an Australian DJ and record producer. There isn t anything
special about him appearance wise unlike other DJs, such as Marshmello or deadmau5, who have a
distinct look. Flume usually sports the generic frat boy uniform consisting of chubbies, a button
down, and boat shoes. His music, however, is unmistakeable. His debut studio self titled album,
Flume, was released on November 9th, 2012 and introduced the world to what is now known as
the Flume drop . According to HP Cheung of Hypebeast, the Flume drop can be best described as
heavily compressed, shimmery, oscillating, side chained, pitch bending, white noise integrated
wall of sound. His most popular songs, Holdin on , a remix of Lorde s Tennis Court and
Disclosure s You Me are the best examples of the Flume drop. There is more to his music other
than his recognizable drop. When asked about how he came about developing his signature sound,
he explained that
Firstly, I wanted it to be really melodic, but not necessarily for the club, so it could be listened to
on headphones. Secondly, I wanted to project the feeling that hip hop has rhythmically. I love dance
music and electronic music but sometimes I felt that it was ... Show more content on

Humanism In Thomas More s Utopia By Thomas More
Thomas More writes Utopia, the comedic, fictional travel log about a no place society to discuss
the various religious, political, and social ideals influenced by humanism. A medieval classically
trained humanist, Thomas More is also influenced by the late medieval social, political, and
religious movements developing from the Plague and the Hundred Years War. In Utopia
, More
illustrates a humanist society by discussing agriculture in the economy, religionand happiness, and
the structure of the government which was ultimately influenced by the late medieval ideals.
Thomas More elaborates on economy in his book Utopia comparing it to the economy in Europe.
The economy of Utopia is based on agriculture. Although agriculture is not a luxurious job,
everyone has to do it because it is a shared experience. One will not complete this task for more
than two years because everyone rotates in and out of the job. This is an example of humanism as
the society recognizes that individuals need relief. Human beings are not to be exploited, it is a
joint effort as seen through the idea of civic humanism; commoners are social utilities. In
comparison to Utopia, the land in England was owned by the lords. The farmers worked for the
lords who eventually profited from the land. Agricultural was a job for the poor, watched over by
the wealthy. In Utopia, each city had its own land, owned by the cities who then profit from the
land. Therefore, they are not exploiting another humans labor

Analysis Of Down These Mean Streets
Down These Mean Streets
Down These Mean Streets is novel written by Piri Thomas, he writes about his life as a child
growing up in New York during the 1930s. However, since his parents were Puerto Rican
immigrants he was doing very well in his new environment. He couldn t make any friends, since
the other kids made fun of him because of his race and his family didn t have a lot of money
since his parents were unable to find a job. He wrote this story as an autobiography to let all of the
readers know what he had to go through during his childhood.
Even though his parents were from Puerto Rico, Piri himself was born in the United States when his
parents moved there. He was born on September 20th, 1928 in East Harlem of New York City.
When he was growing up, his family lived in section of the city called Spanish Harlem where most
spanish speaking immigrants also lived. However, as he grew up there, he would eventually
realize that life was not very easy for people like him.
Spanish Harlem is a neighborhood in Upper Manhattan, despite its name, it is not actually a part of
Harlem. It is known as one of the largest Latino communities in New York, the residents there are
mostly Puerto Ricans but there are also people from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and even
Mexico. Interestingly, the neighborhood was originally made up of Italians, but they pretty much
declined when the Spanish immigrated to America after the events of the First World War. Even
though the Spanish now made

The rise of the Safavids in the 15th century led to the reestablishment of a unified Iranian state and
national identity,[4] which followed the country s conversion to Shia Islam, marking a turning point
in Iranian and Muslim history.[5][23] By the 18th century, under Nader Shah, Iran briefly possessed
what was arguably the most powerful empire at the time.[24] The 19th century conflicts with the
Russian Empire led to significant territorial losses.[25][26] Popular unrest culminated in the
Constitutional Revolution of 1906, which established a constitutional monarchy and the country s
first legislature. Following a coup instigated by the United Kingdom and the United States in 1953,
Iran gradually became closely aligned with the West, and grew increasingly autocratic.[27]
Growing dissent against foreign influence and political repression led to the 1979 Revolution,
which followed the establishment of an Islamic republic,[28] a political system which includes
elements of a parliamentary democracy vetted and supervised by a theocracy governed by an
autocratic Supreme Leader .[29] During the 1980s, the country was engaged in a war with Iraq,
which lasted for almost nine years and resulted in a high number of casualties and financial loss for
both sides.
According to international observers, the current Iranian regime (led by Ali Khamenei since 1989)
is oppressive, with human rights

High School Is The Best Time Of My Life
My time throughout high school was the best time of my life, I wished I would have realized
sooner how terrible of a student I was. I look back and think how much harder I could have tried,
things I could have done different, and how it has changed me. I don t have a single regret,
because not only was it a lesson learned but it was humorous along the way. I was never the best
person at studying, in fact I was terrible at it. I am the biggest procrastinator, the phrase, due
tomorrow, do tomorrow I know all too well. I knew I would have an upcoming assignment due, a
test to study for, and I would still wait until the very last second to get it done it never failed.
While the teacher was going around giving points for homework I was still scrambling to get all
of mine complete. I would always get the question Corey, did you forget to do your homework?
Last minute, scrambling to get it done? I didn t realize until much later how important it is to
limit yourself from distractions. One of the funniest moments I can remember was an afternoon
in my English class. I sat right beside of my best friend Emily, sometimes I wonder how she
done it, how she put up with me and my shenanigans. There wasn t a time I wasn t asking her for
answers to a test, or an assignment, or just talking while distracting her at the same time. This one
day in particular I was really out of it, my teacher was instructing and here I am just completing
disregarding what she was saying. It was after

Pioneers that Travelled across the Great Plains
Pioneers that travelled across the Great Plains would often run into trouble and suffer terrible
deaths. The Donner Party was one of those parties; however, the story connected to the name is
much more infamous than others. It is a story of suffering, betrayal, survival, and acts of necessity.
Perhaps the most interesting fact about these acts is that they were performed by everyday farmers,
traders, and businessmen. The reasons for these acts were, more than likely, out of the will to
survive, but there may a greater story behind such acts of monstrosity.
People first started to travel (pioneer) to the west since the early 1800s. The reason to move
varied from family to family, many sought a new beginning from the economic depression in the
late 1830s. Some wanted to escape political strife and religious persecution. Some moved to join
family members and seek adventure and new opportunities. The majority of emigrants had as
their main reason either land or gold. The most famously travelled trail is the Oregon Trail. This
trail is the nation s longest graveyard, killing nearly one tenth of all travelers (Utah State History,
2014). Many wagon and hand cart groups took the rough 2,000 mile trail to go west; one of these
groups was the James Reed Party. It is more famously known as the Donner Party. A Common Goal
In April of 1846, a group of eight families in Illinois gathered together to find for a better life in the
west. A businessman by the name of James Reed sent out

and absenteeism is at a record high. As the new unit manager, you are looking for ways to improve
morale and deal constructively with the many problematic relationship issues. After reading

The Effect of European Values on the African Society Essay
The Effect of European Values on the African Society
Dead Men s Path is written by Chinua Achebe, a Nigerian who has grown up with European
customs effecting traditional African society. In this short story he explores these effects on
African society.
The story follows Michael Obi, a young headmaster recently appointed headmaster of Ndume
Central School. Obi is a very desirable man and wanted to turn the backward school into a modern,
successful school. He is completely against traditional views of older Africans and does not hesitate
to condemn their views. He expects nothing but true dedication from his unmarried staff and he sets
work on making the school compound into a beautiful place. ... Show more content on

Mathata is a completely uneducated housemaid but despite this she has much better manners than
Neo. Kegoletile has a choice to marry one or the other and of course he chooses Neo. In this
culture a good wife is seen to be a wife with good manners and therefore Mathata should be the
obvious choice. Neo s relatives recognise that he has chosen Neo so that he and her may become
rich in no time.
The aunts on both sides are the representation of tradition and modernity in the story. Kegoletile s
aunts representing the culture and what is lost. They demonstrate the importance of manners and
tradition in the culture. That girl has no manners! the relatives would remark. What s the good of
an education if it goes to someone s head so badly they have no respect for the people? Oh, she is
not a person .
The African wedding is quite similar to our wedding in some aspects. Instead of having the bride s
father to give his daughter away the aunts give the bride away. Other similarities include
celebrations after the wedding.
The Train from Rhodesia is set in a train station in Rhodesia. A train arrives at this station full of
Europeans on holiday. As the train arrives many Africans rush up to the train to try and sell various
items to the Europeans. A little girl throws chocolates to the dogs. This seems rather disrespectful to
the Africans as it is such a luxury to them

  • 2. Biography of Hieronymus Bosch Hieronymus Bosch was born at the beginning of the Renaissance just after the end of the Dark Ages. Bosch was born in the netherlandish city of Hertogenbosch. Hertogenbosch is where Bosch got his last name. Bosch lived, grew up and died in Hertogenbosch. He never left the city, it is surprising that his artwork became famous. Bosch came from a family of painters. His father, uncle, and grandfather were all painters, unfortunately none of their works survived. Bosch joined the Brotherhood of Our Lady, a local religious organization devoted to the Virgin Mary, around 1486. Some of his first commissions came through the Brotherhood ,but unfortunately, none of those works survived. He then married Alety Goyaerts den Meervenne. Her family was wealthy so this union improved Bosch s social status. Bosch s most famous painting is the Garden of Earthly Delight. It has amazing imagery and exaggerations and also contained many vivid scenes. Few painters packed more detail into their work than Hieronymus Bosch. The wings of Bosch s triptych open to reveal a color filled interior bursting with strange architecture, unnatural landforms, and all types of hybrid creatures. In the main part of the left hand panel, God the Father stands between the naked figures of Adam and Eve, surrounded by various flora and fauna. This is the Garden of Eden, though the scene has a dark side. In the distance, an animal tears at the flesh of his prey. Another one of Bosch s famous paintings was the Last ... Both war poems but conveying their different feelings and presenting their views of war in radically different ways. The poets have polarized views of war with Rupert Brooke writing his poem in a romanticized and patriotic way referring to the possibility of death as a noble cause, for England the land that gave him life. This is at odds to how Wilfred Owen views the reality and horror of war. The poets choice of title Dulce et Decorum est which translated means It is lovely and honourable to die for your country which in its self is irony, misleads you to think that the poem is going to ... The rest of the stanza continues to describe the men and the things they saw and sounds they heard: Drunk with fatigue, deaf even to the hoots Of Gas shells dropping softly behind The use of the word Drunk is trying to emphasise that the soldier s were acting oblivious to the happenings around them as if they weren t conscious and even deaf to the sounds of bombs. In the second stanza the poet portrays an ecstasy of fumbling meaning he creates a huge panic of all the men trying to apply their gas masks in time and illustrates the image of one soldier who didn t get his mask on in time. Gas! Gas! Quick boys An ecstasy of fumbling, Fitting the clumsy helmets This is the only quote of one of the men saying something and adds to the image of the rush they were in. The adjective clumsy is used trying to describe how awkward the helmets were to put on, and how much of a hassle they were to put on. One of the men in this poem didn t get his mask on in time and was left by the rest in pain, screaming and becoming weak: But someone was still yelling out and stumbling The word someone is used there because Owen is trying to show the man as being just another soldier. With the identifying the factors contributing to gun violence, community organizers have come up with strategies that are specifically related to them. The main priority is to completely remove guns from the streets of New Haven. Right now, there are two gunbuy back programs in New Haven that are lead by Yale New haven Hospital and the New Haven Police Department (City Wide). The purpose of this program is for people to turn in un registered guns and receive money in return. Some argue that the gun buy back program does not prevent gun violence because they are taking guns from law abiding citizens who would never use them in a crimeand do not reach those who are likely to use them in a crime (Cameron). In New Haven, guns in the streets travel from people to people and at some point, it can fall into the hands of a person who is anticipating on shooting someone. That is all that it takes. The Mental Capacity Act 2005 Answer: Introduction: The Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA 2005) introduced a statutory framework for advance decision making in England and Wales building upon the common law recognition of advance decisions. Academics considered that a bias may operate against upholding advance decisions refusing life sustaining treatment 1. It s commonly felt that judges usually give decisions favouring preservation of life and making advance decisions invalid on various grounds. Recent case law indicates that a high level of specificity is required for advance refusals of life sustaining treatment and, in some capacity must be demonstrated at the time of making the decision. This essay will argue the legal back ground of the advance decisions and relevant case law. There are suggestions that advance care planning (ACP) instead of advance decisions (ADRT) may be more helpful when it comes to the practice of law on ground 2. • 8. The Importance Of Homeostasis And A State Of Equilibrium... All living things strive towards one goal: homeostasis. Homeostasis is a state of equilibrium reached through physiological processes. In order to maintain homeostasis, living things use cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems to counteract physical changes. Using a variety of different tissues, organs are formed to accomplish specific tasks. The four main types of tissuesare epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscular tissue, and nervous tissue. Several sublevels exist for each type of tissue. Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and lines body cavities. The three main kinds of Epithelial tissue are squamous which is composed of flat cells, cuboidal, which is composed of cube shaped cells, and columnar which is composed of stretched, pillar like cells. Each type of epithelial tissue can be either simple or stratified. Simple is one layer of cells, while stratified has more than one layer. Each type can also be glandular. Glands can be either one epithelial cell or multiple cells. Its purpose is to secrete products into different parts of the body or outside of the body. Exocrine glands secrete their products into ducts or directly into a tube/cavity. Endocrine glands secrete their products directly into the bloodstream. Examples of epithelial tissue are the linings of lungs, kidneys, small intestine, and the nose. The use of Heav n has a special meaning that confirms what mentioned before; the poet has chosen the use of Heav n instead of sky to reinforce the idea that it is the only way to freedom. The room where the bird is could be interpreted as a marriage, where the woman is nullified or it can represent a real room. Many times the idea of power is elusive and can lead readers to misinterpret the art piece s true intentions. In the photograph and the poem readers observe that the running naked child seems to be powerless over the situation she is experiencing. Even though the readers may imagine themselves as powerless as well, they are not actually powerless; they are powerful. These themes are present in his work of Othello. However, the most fundamental issue is jealousy. The lives of the characthers in Othello are ruined by jealousy from the beginning to the end of the play. The telling of the story is carried out by passion, jealousy, and death. Shakespeare s Othello reveals devastating tragic inevitability, stunning psychological depth, and compelling poetic depth; the fragility and mysterious power of love, as well as demons of doubt, and how suspicion can be triggered by manipulative villain (Barthelemy 12). In the play, evil intentions destroy what we know of a pure heart as well as trust and genuine honesty by this falsehearted deception. The agony of the tragic play is captured in a nutshell when Othello admits to Desdemona when I love thee not/chaos is come again. There is some misunderstanding of tragedy of love between the two characters. Trust is misplaced, honesty smeared out and finally, lives are ruined by denigrating fabrications and outright lies (Lupu, Jeffrey and Westmaas Jones 12). Narrative Essay On Coptic Americans As we pulled into 145 Oak Street, Natick, MA on Christmas Eve 2011, instead of being greeted by fellow church parishioners, we were greeted by armored soldiers equipped with M4 Carbine assault rifles. The 1920s brought more of a conflict than celebration to the nation, and its wealth. For the first time in the nation s history, more Americans lived in cities than farms ( History.com Staff, The Roaring Twenties) . Although the U.S.A. did not enter the First World War until April 1917, the conflict cast a shadow over American society that would take a while to pass. There was a brief economic recession at the start of the 1920s, but as the decade moves on, the economy boomed and America began the age of consumerism. • 34. Themes In The Rape Of Lucrece In The Rape of Lucrece, there is one theme throughout the poem, and that is to conquer. The themes of war, violence, and the evidence of Tarquin s sexual conquest remain constant. However, this is present specifically with the physical rape of Lucrece itself and the parading of her body around Rome after her death. The constant air of sex and power dominates this poem. Lucrece is used as a political symbol that must be conquered throughout the entirety of the reading. The Rape of Lucrecedisplays the idea of male dominance and female silence in Tarquin s powerful rage and Lucrece s ability to be dominated. In the time of the Renaissance society, men often held positions of power over women. Women were not seen as having an independent voice, as they were often seen as property of their fathers before they were married. In The Rape of Lucrece, Tarquin is able to control Lucrece and silence her. The physical act of raping her is able to dominate her physically and emotionally, and that is what remains constant throughout this poem. If Lucrece has anything, it is her chastity which holds great power, and that is stolen from her in such a grotesque way. However, before the physical act can occur there are several obstacles that must be conquered before Lucrece herself can be taken. This adds to the idea constant idea of war and power through conquest. The locks between her chamber and his will, each one by him enforced, retired his ward; But as they open they all rate his ill. Which drives the creeping thief to some regard. The threshold grates the door to have him heard (302 306). This scene is the first obstacle that must be overcome in the attempt to proceed with his final act. The locks to her door are squeaky as they open, threatening to reveal Tarquin. The threshold rubs against the opening of the door, also attempting to make his presence known. Through little vents and crannies of the place the wind wars with his torch to make him stay, and blows the smoke of it into his face (310 312). Here, a second challenge is presented. His torch is extinguished, which will make him unable to see in the dark night, but he moves forward, determined to conquer each of these new obstacles. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Civilization and Its Discontents is a book written by Sigmund Freud in 1929 (originally titled Das Unbehagen in der Kultur or The Uneasiness in Culture.) This is considered to be one of Freud s most important and widely read works. In this book, Freud explains his perspective by enumerating what he sees as fundamental tensions between civilization and the individual. He asserts that this tension stems from the individual s quest for freedom and non conformity and civilization s quest for uniformity and instinctual repression. Freud also theorizes that the religious oceanic feeling arises from the infant s helplessness and the longing for the father and imagine[s] that the oceanic feeling became connected with religion later on. In other words, the oceanic feeling is not a genuine religious experience, though people experience it that way. Throughout the rest of the book, Freud addresses the conflict between civilization and the individual. He starts with the fundamental paradox of civilization: we created civilization as a tool to protect ourselves from unhappiness; however it is our largest source of unhappiness. He also points out that contemporary technological advances have been a mixed blessing for human happiness. He also asks what the purpose of civilization is if it is not to satisfy the pleasure principal. He later concedes that civilization has to make compromises of happiness to fulfill its primary goal of bringing people into peaceful relationships with each other, by making them subject to a higher, communal authority. Freud included a cornucopia of various themes in this book. The first of these is the recurring theme of the primal father and his psychological heritage. A medieval classically trained humanist, Thomas More is also influenced by the late medieval social, political, and religious movements developing from the Plague and the Hundred Years War. In Utopia , More illustrates a humanist society by discussing agriculture in the economy, religionand happiness, and the structure of the government which was ultimately influenced by the late medieval ideals. Thomas More elaborates on economy in his book Utopia comparing it to the economy in Europe. The economy of Utopia is based on agriculture. Although agriculture is not a luxurious job, everyone has to do it because it is a shared experience. One will not complete this task for more than two years because everyone rotates in and out of the job. This is an example of humanism as the society recognizes that individuals need relief. Human beings are not to be exploited, it is a joint effort as seen through the idea of civic humanism; commoners are social utilities. In comparison to Utopia, the land in England was owned by the lords. The farmers worked for the lords who eventually profited from the land. The rise of the Safavids in the 15th century led to the reestablishment of a unified Iranian state and national identity,[4] which followed the country s conversion to Shia Islam, marking a turning point in Iranian and Muslim history.[5][23] By the 18th century, under Nader Shah, Iran briefly possessed what was arguably the most powerful empire at the time.[24] The 19th century conflicts with the Russian Empire led to significant territorial losses.[25][26] Popular unrest culminated in the Constitutional Revolution of 1906, which established a constitutional monarchy and the country s first legislature. Following a coup instigated by the United Kingdom and the United States in 1953, Iran gradually became closely aligned with the West, and grew increasingly autocratic.[27] Growing dissent against foreign influence and political repression led to the 1979 Revolution, which followed the establishment of an Islamic republic,[28] a political system which includes elements of a parliamentary democracy vetted and supervised by a theocracy governed by an autocratic Supreme Leader .[29] During the 1980s, the country was engaged in a war with Iraq, which lasted for almost nine years and resulted in a high number of casualties and financial loss for both sides. • 45. High School Is The Best Time Of My Life My time throughout high school was the best time of my life, I wished I would have realized sooner how terrible of a student I was. I look back and think how much harder I could have tried, things I could have done different, and how it has changed me. I don t have a single regret, because not only was it a lesson learned but it was humorous along the way. I was never the best person at studying, in fact I was terrible at it. I am the biggest procrastinator, the phrase, due tomorrow, do tomorrow I know all too well. I knew I would have an upcoming assignment due, a test to study for, and I would still wait until the very last second to get it done it never failed. While the teacher was going around giving points for homework I was still scrambling to get all of mine complete. I would always get the question Corey, did you forget to do your homework? Last minute, scrambling to get it done? I didn t realize until much later how important it is to limit yourself from distractions. One of the funniest moments I can remember was an afternoon in my English class. I sat right beside of my best friend Emily, sometimes I wonder how she done it, how she put up with me and my shenanigans. There wasn t a time I wasn t asking her for answers to a test, or an assignment, or just talking while distracting her at the same time. This one day in particular I was really out of it, my teacher was instructing and here I am just completing disregarding what she was saying. It was after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Pioneers that Travelled across the Great Plains Pioneers that travelled across the Great Plains would often run into trouble and suffer terrible deaths. The Donner Party was one of those parties; however, the story connected to the name is much more infamous than others. It is a story of suffering, betrayal, survival, and acts of necessity. Perhaps the most interesting fact about these acts is that they were performed by everyday farmers, traders, and businessmen. The reasons for these acts were, more than likely, out of the will to survive, but there may a greater story behind such acts of monstrosity. People first started to travel (pioneer) to the west since the early 1800s. The reason to move varied from family to family, many sought a new beginning from the economic depression in the late 1830s. Some wanted to escape political strife and religious persecution. Some moved to join family members and seek adventure and new opportunities. The majority of emigrants had as their main reason either land or gold. The most famously travelled trail is the Oregon Trail. This trail is the nation s longest graveyard, killing nearly one tenth of all travelers (Utah State History, 2014). Many wagon and hand cart groups took the rough 2,000 mile trail to go west; one of these groups was the James Reed Party. It is more famously known as the Donner Party. A Common Goal In April of 1846, a group of eight families in Illinois gathered together to find for a better life in the west. A businessman by the name of James Reed sent out ...
