PRACTICE II (2021)
TRAINEE’S NAME: Cristian Yacopini

Course: 5th grade
Mentor teacher: Juliana Badillo
Date: Thursday 4th, November
1. Eye Contact: EXC.
2. Voice/ Intonation: VG. Your voice is loud though, due to the shield, sometimes students could
not hear you. VG use of intonation.
3. Classroom Management Skills (discipline):
Pupils participated all the time. There were no instances of misbehaviour.
4. Teacher’s Roles: Controller, organizer, assessor, facilitator. You provided constant feedback.
EXC. You also spoke English most of the time.
5. Students’ grouping: 11 students sat individually due to Covid-19 protocol. Due to rain, some
students were absent.
6. Stages in the class:
ROUTINE: You greeted students. However, some aspects of the routine were missing: date,
weather, feelings, breathing. (It was all written in your lesson plan).
WARM-UP: Revision of vocabulary. Sometimes students find it hard to respond to the question
“What is this?”. For future lessons, try to elicit answers by asking “is this a park?” “is this a
school?”.
PRESENTATION: You explained students how to write questions using “there is/are”. VG. Try
to use the whiteboard from the very beginning of your explanations. If not, it is hard to
understand the process.
PRACTICE: They worked with an activity in the textbook.
Remember that before moving from one activity to the other, you should correct everything on
the board. Moreover, when checking, remember to use the board, especially if students have to
write, since there may be spelling mistakes.
PRODUCTION: Students had to write some sentences.
FOLLOW-UP: Since you did not check the last activity on the whiteboard and the lesson was
interrupted by the bell, it seems that the lesson ended abruptly.
7. Macroskills: Writing, reading. Mostly writing (words, phrases). Remember to tackle the
different macroskills.
8. Following the plan: VG. The last activity was missing due to lack of time.
9. Use the blackboard: VG. Your handwriting is clear and big enough for students at the back to
see. Use the backboard as a helper. Write the page number of the book, the exercise.
10. Use of AIDS: No visual aids. Perhaps you could have brought flashcards. Remember that kids
need different kinds of exposure.
11. Materials prepared by trainees: A photocopy delivered by Valentina the previous lesson.
12. Use of a textbook: GOOD. When using the book, write the page number on the board.
Besides, try to show pupils the book/photocopy for students to see the activity they have to solve.
13. Rapport with the students: VG. Respectful. You smiled all the time. Students were happy to
see you face-to-face.
14: Classroom setting: Respectful.
It was very noisy due to the break and the PE lesson. However, students solved all the activities.
15: Methodological approach followed: PPP
FINAL COMMENTS:
WHAT WENT WELL:
- You walked around the tables to see if students had done the activities and provided feedback to
all the pupils.
- You were very patient and waited for everyone to finish the activity.
SUGGESTIONS:
- Make instructions simple. For example, you said “Open your Hop into English book” instead of
“Open your book”. Accompany instructions with body language.
- Time management was VG. However, providing individual feedback is time-consuming. You
spend a lot of time correcting, while some other students had already finished. You can make use
of the whiteboard and check the activities all together. Besides, you could be more specific about
time: “OK, in five minutes we will check”, “Are you ready?”, “Let’s check”.

Question for reflection: This was your first experience in front of the class, in the same school you
attended when you were a kid. How was the experience of returning to the school as a pre-service
teacher?

Observation Report N°2

  • 1. PRACTICE II, DIDACTICS OF ELT and Practicum Primary School level. Adjunto Regular a/c Prof. Estela N. Braun (2021). Teacher Assistants: Prof. Maguie Muller. Prof. Joana Herrán CLASSROOM OBSERVATION PRACTICE II (2021) TRAINEE’S NAME: Cristian Yacopini School: 256 Course: 5th grade Mentor teacher: Juliana Badillo Date: Thursday 4th, November 1. Eye Contact: EXC. 2. Voice/ Intonation: VG. Your voice is loud though, due to the shield, sometimes students could not hear you. VG use of intonation. 3. Classroom Management Skills (discipline): Pupils participated all the time. There were no instances of misbehaviour. 4. Teacher’s Roles: Controller, organizer, assessor, facilitator. You provided constant feedback. EXC. You also spoke English most of the time. 5. Students’ grouping: 11 students sat individually due to Covid-19 protocol. Due to rain, some students were absent. 6. Stages in the class: ROUTINE: You greeted students. However, some aspects of the routine were missing: date, weather, feelings, breathing. (It was all written in your lesson plan). WARM-UP: Revision of vocabulary. Sometimes students find it hard to respond to the question “What is this?”. For future lessons, try to elicit answers by asking “is this a park?” “is this a school?”. PRESENTATION: You explained students how to write questions using “there is/are”. VG. Try to use the whiteboard from the very beginning of your explanations. If not, it is hard to understand the process.
  • 2. PRACTICE: They worked with an activity in the textbook. Remember that before moving from one activity to the other, you should correct everything on the board. Moreover, when checking, remember to use the board, especially if students have to write, since there may be spelling mistakes. PRODUCTION: Students had to write some sentences. FOLLOW-UP: Since you did not check the last activity on the whiteboard and the lesson was interrupted by the bell, it seems that the lesson ended abruptly. 7. Macroskills: Writing, reading. Mostly writing (words, phrases). Remember to tackle the different macroskills. 8. Following the plan: VG. The last activity was missing due to lack of time. 9. Use the blackboard: VG. Your handwriting is clear and big enough for students at the back to see. Use the backboard as a helper. Write the page number of the book, the exercise. 10. Use of AIDS: No visual aids. Perhaps you could have brought flashcards. Remember that kids need different kinds of exposure. 11. Materials prepared by trainees: A photocopy delivered by Valentina the previous lesson. 12. Use of a textbook: GOOD. When using the book, write the page number on the board. Besides, try to show pupils the book/photocopy for students to see the activity they have to solve. 13. Rapport with the students: VG. Respectful. You smiled all the time. Students were happy to see you face-to-face. 14: Classroom setting: Respectful. It was very noisy due to the break and the PE lesson. However, students solved all the activities. 15: Methodological approach followed: PPP FINAL COMMENTS: WHAT WENT WELL:
  • 3. - You walked around the tables to see if students had done the activities and provided feedback to all the pupils. - You were very patient and waited for everyone to finish the activity. SUGGESTIONS: - Make instructions simple. For example, you said “Open your Hop into English book” instead of “Open your book”. Accompany instructions with body language. - Time management was VG. However, providing individual feedback is time-consuming. You spend a lot of time correcting, while some other students had already finished. You can make use of the whiteboard and check the activities all together. Besides, you could be more specific about time: “OK, in five minutes we will check”, “Are you ready?”, “Let’s check”. GRADE: __8 (eight)_____ Question for reflection: This was your first experience in front of the class, in the same school you attended when you were a kid. How was the experience of returning to the school as a pre-service teacher?
