DNA Restriction Fragmentation Patterns
DNA electrophoreses was developed in 1984 by Dr. Alex Jeffreys. The use of DNA electrophoresis
quickly became a way to convict criminals of crimes. DNA electrophoresis has also helped
identify genetic diseases markers as well as the identification of the remains of humans. (DNA
Fingerprinting ID of DNARestriction Fragmentation Patterns).
In order to create a DNA fingerprint, a sample of cells containing DNA must be obtained first. This
may be in the form of hair, blood, or skin. DNA is extracted and purified from the cells. This was
originally done with restriction fragment length polymorphic technology. During this procedure,
DNA is broken down into individual strands at specific locations. These strands, known as
restriction enzymes,

American Gangster Analysis
When the Vietnam War began in 1955, America changed forever. News organizations televised the
war, inducing a communal sense of disenchantment throughout America s public that led to the
popularity of the anti Vietnam movement. This anti war movement eventually developed into a
counterculture that influenced a large amount of the public to experiment with illegal substances.
President Nixon saw drug abuse as a major problem and introduced a War on Drugs that
simultaneously allowed him to target minority groups and worsen racism within the government.
The film American Gangstertakes place during the 1960s, in the midst of America s chaotic drug
milieu. The film American Gangster does a wonderful job portraying America s countercultural
movement, yet falls short when portraying journalism during the Vietnam War and the negative
impact of Nixon s drug war on minorities.

Synopsis
Part I: In the year of 1968, drugs rule the streets of Harlem, and a man named Ellsworth Bumpy
Johnson (Clarence Williams III) rules drugs. Bumpy teaches his bodyguard named Frank Lucas
(Denzel Washington) everything he knows as he goes about his business, and Frank is well
prepared to take over the streets when Bumpy peacefully passes away. However, Bumpy s
funeral shows Frank that power over the drug industry is now divided amongst powerful people,
and Frank is not one of them. Frank sees these people as unfit for the job and makes a vow to take
back what is his in Bumpy s name

Brain Specialization
The human brain is one of the most complex systems in nature. Neuroscientists have referred to the
brain as the final frontier of science (Pavlopoulos et al., 2011). A substantial amount of the brain s
physiological functions involves collecting information from the body, interpreting the information,
and directing the body s response. The brainrecognizes odors, light, sounds, and pain. The study of
anatomical and functional connectivity of the nervous systemcreates an understanding of the brain
specialization and integration (Sporms et al., 2005). The temporal dependence of neuronal activity
between different brain regions is known as functional connectivity and is examined by measuring
the coherence of resting state fMRI time series. Continuous debates about the low frequency
oscillation of fMRI... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies support the latter view of low frequency oscillation of fMRI connected with the cortical
region that are known to aid in functional networks such as the motor, visual, and auditory regions.
Furthermore, recently blood oxygen level dependent fluctuations correlate with fluctuations in
neuronal spiking, suggesting a link between resting state time lag signals originating from neuronal
activity and form functional resting state brain networks (Biswal et al., 1995; Greicius et. al., in
press; Gusnard et al., Shmuel and Leopoid, 2008). A recent human study on resting state fMRI
involved 28 subjects on a 3 Tesla MR scanner showing how individual dataset can form a functional
connectivity graph. In this context, a graph consists of a set of vertices representing the nodes and
set of edges representing the connections between the nodes (Pavlopoulos et al., 2011). A graph can
show functional brain connections through a network of regions. The connections are direct links
to the ability to systematize information and communicate effectively. There are two classifications
of networks that help identify the number of connections per

Analysis Of Umrao Jaan
In the film Umrao Jaan, the story is narrated by a woman who was kidnapped at a young age.
Umrao Jaan is a courtesan genre film in Bollywood. This genre often portrays the life of a
courtesan. In this film, A young girl (whose name is Amiran) is abducted by her father s enemy
and sold to a brothel where she learns to read, write, sing, and dance. She becomes an
accomplished courtesan; in a song sequence which compromises time, we see her grow up while
learning how to sing and dance. This song marks the beginning and training of her courtesan
lifestyle. Towards the end of the film, we get another song sequence where Umrao Jaan
performs her poetry, Yeh Kya Jagah Hai Doston. I will analyze this song as the song speaks of
her sense of confusion, loss, and ache for home. In this song, Umrao has returned to her
hometown of Faizabad (from where she was abducted). She sings the song outside her
biological home. Umrao as a courtesan, was a sex worker who was often ostracized and
condemned from the society. Due to Umrao being known in society as a prostitute she is unable
to find fulfillment in love. Through her songs and dance we see how she expresses how much
she desires to live a life beyond her condemned situation. Umrao in her life has gone through
various periods of rejection and oppression in her life. Through her verses of poetry she express
her predicament and feelings of loneliness. In the finale of the film, Umrao returns to Faizabad.
She is asked to perform a song where in the town she is known as a stranger. As the song starts
we see a flashback of Umrao when she was younger with her brother which, tells us this song will
express how much it means for her to back in her old town and the sadness that she will convey.
Umrao as she sings the first line saying, What is this place, my friends you see her eyes start to
glisten with tears as she sings. She goes on to say What location is this. Where, as far one can
see, there s dust and only dust. She is saying that she is alone like she is living in a desert, and the
sadness and grief is overwhelming, that she cannot feel anything else other than sadness. Umrao
when she examines her life only feels sadness, grief, and bewilderment, that she is not aware

The Word Of God Is An Essential Component Of The...
Group A: Question 1 The Word of God is an essential component of the foundation of one s faith.
Ultimately, the concepts that are disclosed through the Word of God are those that the believer
abides to throughout the theological journey is his or her life. First, we must understand what the
Word of God is and how it functions as a sacrament. In essence, the Word of God is the
manifestation of JesusChrist himself but more importantly, the Word of God is the word of God s
grace. Now, one can begin to understand how the Word of God functions as a sacrament.
Ultimately, the sacrament functions as an instrument to disclose God s desire. The Word of God,
therefore, functions as a sacrament as it discloses the infinite potential of God whose ultimate
purpose is to allow a human to experience their ultimate potential. In this case, the Word of God,
functions as a sacrament as it demonstrates a theological association with the physical, Jesus Christ,
and the mystical, God s ultimate desire to allow humans to experience their true capacity. Finally,
however, one must understand the function of the church in the context of the Word of God and its
sacramental nature. As mentioned, the Word of God is discloses God s ultimate desire to allow a
human to reach his or her ultimate capacity. However, the Word alone is not sufficient to work faith
and conversion, but is yet the necessary instrument. This is where the role of the church becomes
important with the function of the Word of

Mary, Queen of the Scots

knows it better than I. The only child of James V of Scotland and his French born wife Mary of
Guise, I was born in December 1542 in the Linlithgow Palace as Mary Stuart. My Father died a
six days after my birth, and then I became Mary, Queen of Scots, with my mother acting as a
regent in my stead (Source 1). At just five years of age, I was betrothed to Henry VIII s son,
Edward, but my Catholic guardians were opposed to the match, and took me too Stirling Castle,
breaking the agreement(Source 1). The Scots betrothed me to the son of Henry II, Francis, the
four year old heir to the French crown, and sent me to be raised at his courts (Source 1). I loved
him with a strong sisterly affection (Source 4) and he loved me as a brother would love a sister.

The Communist Manifesto Marx And Engels
For Karl Marx, the analysis of social class, class structures and changes in those structures are key
to understanding capitalism and other social systems or modes of production. In the Communist
Manifesto Marx and Engels comment that the history of all hitherto existing society is the history
of class struggles. Analysis of class divisions and struggles is especially important in developing
an understanding of the nature of capitalism. For Marx, classes are defined and structured by the
relations concerning (i) work and labour and (ii) ownership or possession of property and the
means of production. These economic factors more fully govern social relationships in capitalism
than they did in earlier societies. While earlier societies contained various strata or groupings
which might be considered classes, these may have been strata or elites that were not based solely
on economic factors like that of priesthood, knights, or military elite.
Marx s theories about society, economics and politics, which are collectively known as Marxism,
argue that all society progresses through the dialectic of class struggle. He was heavily critical of
the current socio economic form of society, capitalism, which he called the dictatorship of the
bourgeoisie, believing it to be run by the wealthy middle and upper classes purely for their own
benefit, and predicted that it would inevitably produce internal tensions which would lead to its self
destruction and replacement by a new system,

The Pros And Cons Of Single Parent Families
There are currently over 107,000 foster children eligible for and waiting to be adopted in the
United States today. From 2012 to 2016, although an average of 50,000 foster kids were adopted
annually, an extremely high number of children are still in need of a stable home. Fortunately, in
recent years, there has been an increasing desire for people in America to raise a familyand nurture
a child and this is common among married couples as well as single men and women. However,
there have been some conflicts concerning whether single individuals are capable to adopt or if
having a single parent is in the best interest of these foster kids. This narrow ideology simply
doesn t make any sense when one looks at the makeup of the present day, typical American family.
Numerous single parent families exist throughout the U.S. today. Moreover, many would argue
that these households maintain just as much of a loving, caring, and safe environment for their
children as that of a married couple, if not more. Being single today has become common and
quite normal for Americans. This is mostly in part due to individuals taking preference in
pursuing a single lifestyle over being in a marriage. With the enormous rise in the divorce rate
year after year, it is apparent that sometimes a married lifestyle can become unfavorable and
ultimately irreparable. In most of these situations, the end result proves to be a very adverse,
troublesome time for the couple in the relationships especially

Impact on video and cell phones in law Enforcement
Technological advances will continue to change the ways in which police agencies combat crime. It
s critical that these technologies are implemented correctly. New equipment, no matter how

Counterdrug Operations Case Study
There are several significant planning considerations the DOD must identify and incorporate when
providing support to domestic law enforcement agencies during counterdrug operations. Firstly,
DOD support to counterdrug operations is part of a whole of government effort to eliminate the
transport and transfer of illegal drugs into the US. DOD is the lead federal agency for the
detection and monitoring (D M) of aerial and maritime transit of illegal drugs into the US as
outlined in the National Defense Authorization Acts of 1990 and 1991. The desired end result of D
M is the interdiction and apprehension by Law Enforcement Agency (LEA). DOD assists partner
nations (PN) in counter drug(CD) operations, only when specifically requested by LEA and

The Three Colonies In North America During The 1600s
The French established three colonies in North America during the 1600s and 1700s. Louisiana
and Canada were two of the three colonies. The colony of Canada extended from the north east
coast where New Foundland was, down to the Great Lakes. Canada had no real settlements,
however, they had many posts which served as trading posts and military support. The colony
experienced harsh winters and short growing seasons and because of this their farming efforts
usually failed and populations never grew. Since they had little to no success in farming, their
economy thrived on fur trade with natives. By creating close ties with the natives they were able to
trade metal goods for fur and then craft the fur and later profit from it. In the 1660s the... Show

King Louis XIV did not want the colonies to be a refuge for those who practiced anything other
than Catholicism. During the revocation in 1685, French Huguenots were allowed to migrate to
Louisiana as long as they converted to Catholicism once in the colony. This condition led to a
small migratory population (Bond, 2005). The French wanted to set up a colony on the North
American interior to control fertile farm land as well as to keep the rivals out of the interior.
Louisiana was founded to provide the French a southern outlet for their fur trade. When the colony
was first established it was ignored by the French due to the War of Spanish Succession taking
place in France Colonists from Canada who had wilderness experience were drawn down while
colonists from France had no colonial life experience(Jones, 2014, 57). Originally they hoped
Louisiana would turn into a plantation society. However, their farming efforts were unsuccessful.
The only crops they were able to produce were indigo and tobacco, both held little value. In the
end Louisiana just became a way to block the expansion of the British ( France In America: The

Oral Tradition And The Middle Ages
Much of the known history of a certain nation, which survived the Middle Ages, is derived from
a specific story or collection of stories. These stories are defined as epics, because they often
contain a hero or heroic group that slayed an evil force of some kind. One of the greatest effects
the epics had on the tribes or communities of the Middle Ageswas their unifying influence. Through
oral tradition, the tribal communities were brought together to be educated in their history. With
the prevailing overthrow of the Roman Empire, the European world was brought into a period
known as the Dark Ages. Learning via oral tradition was rather common during the Middle Ages,
as the literacy skills to read and write mostly died with the beginning of Germanic triberule. Oral
tradition also provided people something to compare themselves to what they strive to be. The
epics allowed for the tribal people to be unified with a common goal. This was more often than not
the objective of keeping their history, and the most dominant way of achieving this came through
defeating their enemies who wished to overthrow the tradition. The tribes were brought together to
fight the outsider enemy. These outsiders were viewed as being different based on their life,
religious, and/or cultural views. Two of the most significant elements in defining how epics create
nations are the effects war and Christianity had on the culture. The epic of Beowulfwas successful in
defining Anglo Saxon culture.

Near the archaeological site of Kouyunjik in ancient Nineveh, the capital of Assyria, now modern

Mesopotamia by an English archaeologist named Austen Henry Layard. The Royal Library of
Ashurbanipal, named after the last great king of the Assyrian Empire (668 627 BC), contained a
collection of thousands of cuneiform tablets dating from the 7th Century BC buried in the Royal
Palace of King Sennacherub. Another set was found in the same mound three years later yielding

Differences Between Europeans And Americans
In this time era it is easy to tell that the Europeans was the strongest and best when in comparism
to the Americans and Africans. Sure there may have been a couple of systems where they were
the same but the Europeans were superior in every way. In fact this was the reason why took over
the Americans and Africans and taking thier goods. The political, economic, and religous system of
the europeans was the best and that s why after contact the Americans and Africans had to follow
the Euoropean ways. The first system that I am going to talk about is the political system. All three
countries actually have a very similar system and that is being ruled by monarchs. The only
difference is that the Americans and Africans are living like Indians. The Europeans on the other
hand are living more like civilized people who then venture out and ecounter themselves with the
Americans and Africans. Also instead of one big country like Spain and Portuguel they are... Show

All three of these countries pretty much had the same system going on. They all had some sort
of trade route going on and had some wealth. The only difference really was agriculture. The
Africans and Americans would start planting depending on the season. The Europeans would
usually have serfs or servitudes grow crops and raise livestock to trade for goods or to have
stored. The last system I am going to talk about is the religous system. This is where most of the
differences will come. The Americans and Africans had the same thing in common and that is that
they were either animists or had no religion at all. Also they would respect the spirits that had died
and offered sacrifices to make their hunt or crops successful. Africa however had a few muslims
come from Europe and had converted them into Islams while others were converted in Christians.

Disparities In US Birth Rates Of Hispanic Adolescents
The main ethnic/racial groups affected by the health issue are non Hispanic African American
females, Hispanic females, and Native Americans/Native Alaskans. There were key study findings
from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that found that U.S. birth rates for adolescents
vary considerably by race and Hispanic origin (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011).
Thus, this provides even more clear evidence on the difference of ethnic/racial groups. Additionally,
in 2008, the birth rate for Hispanic adolescents was approximately five times the rate for Asian
/Pacific Islander adolescents, three times the rate for non Hispanic white adolescents, and somewhat
higher than the rates for non Hispanic African American and Native American/Native Alaskan
adolescents (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011).
This brings caution, as according to The Pew Charitable Trusts, although teen pregnancy and birth
rates have declined over the past two decades, states still face the reality that African American and
Latina teens are more than twice as likely as white teens to become pregnant (Wiltz, T. 2015)....

issue. This is due to the fact, that all statistical findings point to the same direction: expressions

Women s Struggle For Equality
Women in American society have endured numerous struggles to fight for equality throughout
history. Today American women have come a long way by narrowing gender gaps and
becoming successful in aspects of life that are prominently male dominated. Although American
women are living a better life than they were years ago, they still deal with inequality when it
comes to the workforce, income, politics, domestic duties, and sex. The reason women are not
equal to men in these aspects of life are because men hold most of the jobs in the STEM fields of
work, make higher incomes than women in the same level of employment, dominate congress and
the government, not looked upon to take care of the house duties, and are praised for sex rather
than shamed like women are. Living as an American woman today is far from difficult but in
contrast, living as an American man is still substantially better. Women have dealt with constant
battles in the workplace but the most important was the ability to work alongside men in any field
of employment. As stated in the article, Women in the Professional Workplace by Jennifer Dorning,
the status for women in the workforce has improved over the last several decades, but many
women still struggle for equality in many occupations (Dorning). For example, women are
extremely underrepresented in the fields of science, technology development, and engineering
making up only 20% of the people employed in these particular categories (Pinker). From

Essay on Richard Wright
Richard Wright
Whenever I thought of the essential bleakness of black life in America, I knew that Negroes had
never been allowed to catch the full spirit of Western civilization, that they lived somehow in it but
not of it. And when I brooded upon the cultural barrenness of black life, I wondered if clean,
positive tenderness, love, honor, loyalty, and the capacity to remember were native with man. I
asked myself if these human qualities were not fostered, won, struggled and suffered for, preserved
in ritual from one generation to another. This passage written in Black Boy, the autobiography of
Richard Wright shows the disadvantages of Black people in the 1930 s. A man of many words,

One book of particular interest to Richard was H.L. Menken s Book of Prefaces, it was a basis to
a majority of his own writings. Richard traveled around the country picking up odd jobs but these
jobs didn t meet his standards, they didn t exercise his abilities. Hence Richard decided to enter the
political arena. After being refused from both the Democratic and Republican parties.....Richard
entered the Communist party after hearing of there efforts to promote equality among races.
While in the Communist Party, Richard s writings began to have a direct influence on many
people. He was a leading contributor to the magazine and newspapers Daily Worker and New
Masses which held very controversial beliefs for the time. His novels, Uncle Tom s Children
(1938) and Native Son (1940) were written while he was in the party. Richard was one of a few
black men in the Communist Party and it was because of him that many black American s began to
look to the Communist Party. Because of a lack of results and his outspoken militancy, Wright
broke away from the party in 1944. The essay, The God that Failed , gives an oversight to why
Richard disagreed with the Communist party. According to the Communist Party, Richard was not
writing about what they wanted such as ways to come together and fight against others,he was
reflecting the life of the black American and the Communists found this to have little importance to
what they were trying to portray.

Why do I care so much about the lives of celebrities? (Why do I Keep Up With the Kardashians ?)
Do I want to be like the celebrities I glorify? Is my desired profession for working in the film
industry driven by popular culture eminence? How influential or brainwashing has popular
culture been a factor in my lifestyle? Is it a good or bad influence? Does popular culture have an
effect on my self esteem? Has popular culture prematurely exposed me to social vices? (Sex?
Drugs? Violence?) Why do I identify with the hip hop culture? What is the message that I am
given when listening to hip hop music? What does my taste in music say about me? Am I
defined by society due to popular culture stereotypes? Is my judgment or perception on beauty
along with different races, gender, and sexualities skewed by popular culture standards and
stereotypes? What benefit or significance do I receive from consuming popular culture news?
Does popular culture offer me any more than just material to fill my time with frivolous talk and
gossip? How much time am I consuming because of popular culture? Why do I feel out the loop
if I m not immersed in the latest trends? How am I empowered of my knowledge about popular
culture news? Do I get sense of shared identity, meaning and purpose through popular culture? Does

How To Write A Story Of The Story
Early the next day, Alayna joined her brother and Jon in the stands. Having spent so much time
with her friends, she knew she would need to stay on Mace s good side in order to convince him
to allow her to return to King s Landing with the royal party following the conclusion of the
tourney. Not that it really mattered if Mace agreed to it or not, Rhaegar made his position
perfectly clear when they d spoken the previous night. Dressed in rich greens and golds, the Tyrell
host surly made an impression on the rest of the attendants as they claimed their seats among the
other lords. Even though they were the newest Great House, they looked like they belonged with

The Art Cinema As A Mode Of Film Essay
Article Three Author: David Bordwell / Title of Article: The Art Cinema as a Mode of Film
Bordwell, D. (1979). The art cinema as a mode of film practice. Film Criticism, 4(1), 56 64.

David Bordwell wrote his article The Art Cinema as a Mode of Film in an effort to convey the
main idea that art cinema can be considered as a distinct mode of film practice, through its definite
historical existence alongside other cinematic modes, set of formal conventions, and implicit
viewing procedures. Rather than searching for the source of the art, or what drives the art in film,
Bordwell compares art cinema to the classical narrative cinema, and highlights the differences in
narrative structure. Bordwell makes the assumption that it defined itself against the classical
narrative mode; especially with the way it deals with space, time, and the cause and effect link of
events. To support this idea, Bordwell illustrates how art cinema motivates its narratives differently,
through two principles: realism and authorial expressivity. Firstly he proposes the notion that art
films reflect realism in their characters, space, and time. Psychologically complex characters are
present in real worlds dealing with true to life situations. Art cinema is concerned with the
characters reaction to these situations, rather than their action . Thus it bares an element of
psychological subjectivity as the characters survey the world they are in, which aids the realisation
of the distress of

Pharmakon Persuasive Speech
Pharmakon: An ancient Greek Word meaning drug as both a remedy and a poison1. A
paradoxical statement that is true in life hundred years ago, and true in life now. It is an obvious
fact that drugs such as alcohol, marijuana and tobacco cause adverse effects that can ultimately
cause death either by body trauma or social interaction such as crashing of cars or abusive fights
that is seen as common in society2. However, even though drugs are blamed for the destruction
that they cause, they have a significant effect on curing life as well. The purpose of this essay is
to explain to the audience that drugs are only detrimental to the body and society, if it allowed to
be, as these certain drugs can also bring us life and prolongment. It is not the drugs we create that
cause the problem. It is the problem caused by the humans who abuse these drugs that cause a rift
in social fabric and a damage to our own body. As it is common knowledge, as well as socially

alcohol can cause death and destruction is an enigma in which why alcohol is not banned by the

moderate alcohol consumption is defined as having up to one drink per day for women and up to

How Divorce Affects Children Essay
How does divorce effects on the minds of the children

Usually in this scenario a kid is upset at first but seems to be resilient and uses their strength to get
through the divorce and stays normal and strong. This is the uncommon situation beyond most kids
that have gone through this pain between their parents but it does occur.
Last but not least, the most common product of divorce is having emotional and painful memories
that stick around from that hard time in life. Many adults thouruoghly remember the hard times and
trials and tribulations they had as their parents went through a divorce. Some happen to be scarred
for life and can never love or truly trust again. Things that kids experience between being torn
between their mom and dad is something that no one should have to go through.
Whether the divorce was a product of constantly fighting, lying or cheating, it can cause a kid to
feel obligated to pick the side of the victim in the relationship which can change the dynamic of a
kid and their parents relationships dynamic for life. Some relationship do not recover from
divorce and can remain broken forever. Things kids find hard to do is look at both sides of the
relationship and what the true dynamic is. Some people are just not made for each other and kids

Islam s Influences on the Modern World
The modern world is a mixing pot of different cultures and influences intertwining and overlapping.
The impact of one culture on another can be seen clearly in contemporary Europe, which lays
adjacent to Asia. Over time, European culture has evolved and assimilated with the incorporation of
surrounding influences. Western civilisation has taken inspiration in the innovations and
discoveries of great eastern empires such as the Greek, Roman and Byzantine. Arguably one of the
most influential and historically significant empires to the development of Europeis the Islamic.
Islamdirectly translates to submission . It is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion, as well as an
empire, (which is focused in the Middle Eastand Northern Africa). Islam is currently the second
most practiced religion globally. Throughout the Middles ages and the centuries leading up to them
Islam was one of few lifestyles which encouraged culture, art and an open state of mind, making it a
perfect breeding ground for scientific advancement and progression of the arts. Islam has shared
some of the greatest discoveries and revolutions of the pre modern age, all of which have
undoubtedly assisted in the construction of the western world we inhabit. One essential tool
Muslims (those devoted to Islam) have helped develop is mathematics. Algebra is the branch of
mathematics including equation solving and the use of variables to represent the unknown in

Cj Industries and Heavey Pumps – Discussion Questions Essay
CJ Industries and Heavey Pumps Discussion Questions 1. What are all the issues here, from both
CJI s and Heavey s perspectives, that need to be researched by Mr. Ashby?
CJ Industries (CJI)
The first issue presented for CJ Industries was its contract with Great Lakes. Though CJI had
sufficient excess capacity to ramp up production on the parts to be supplied in the Great Lakes
contract, they were not sure about the ability or willingness of Heavey Pumps to increase their
production of the bilge pumps. The problem is that CJ Industries had signed the contract with Great
Lakes prior to any discussions about ramping up production with Heavey Pumps.
The next issue for CJ Industries was whether or not Heavey Pumps could guarantee ... Show more

With about nine months remaining until the contact start date, Heavey Pumps would need to look
at their existing customer orders to see if they had enough capacity to quadruple production of bilge
pumps for CJ Industries.
Furthermore, Heavey Pumps would need to evaluate the costs associated with this contract (i.e.
labor, production, warehousing, purchasing, transportation, etc.) to determine a new unit price for
the bilge pumps associated with CJ Industries contract.
Finally, as with CJ Industries cost benefit analysis, Heavey Pumps ought to decide if they should
continue to service CJ Industries. If so, perhaps consider changing from their current informal,
noncontract basis to a more long term agreement.
2. Should CJI continue to use Heavey to supply pumps, should they make them in house, should
they consider one of the other suppliers, or should they do some combination of these alternatives?
Discuss the advantages, disadvantages, and risks of each of these alternatives.
Option 1 continue to use Heavey Pumps. This would be probably the easiest decision since
Heavey Pumps had been a reliable supplier for CJI for a number of years. This is also contingent
on Heavey Pumps and the issues discussed above, i.e. quality and performance, price, delivery
timing and volume requirements. The disadvantage would be CJ Industries may need to consider
another supplier which might not prove to be as reliable.

Psychopathy and Antisocial Personality Disorder Essay
Introduction The purpose of this study is to compare and contrast the constructs of psychopathy
and antisocial personality disorder. The aim is to highlight whether the terms psychopathy and
antisocial personality disorder reflect the same construct or whether they differ. Furthermore,
recommendations for treatment of criminal behavior will be explored. For the purposes of this
evaluation some definitions need to be highlighted: Criminal offence is an act that breaks a law,
which relates how to behave in society. The harm caused by the act is seen to be against society
as a whole, not just a specific person. Sometimes it refers to the specific law that was broken
(Herring, 2009). Crime is the breach of rules or law for which some authority... Show more content

Furthermore, psychopathy was considered during the twentieth century, the most widely used term
to describe antisocial behavior (Reed, 1996). In the 1980s, the committee who devised the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for the American Psychiatric Association recommended the term
antisocial personality syndrome to be changed to antisocial personality disorder (Ellis Walsh, 2000).
Antisocial Personality Disorder Hare McPherson (1984), were successful in pushing the idea that
there is a significant correspondence between violent and persistent delinquent and criminal
histories and antisocial personality disorder diagnosis. Acute persistent child conduct disorder
behavior symptoms, also known as conduct disorder, have been directly linked to serious
criminality and antisocial personality disorder (Ellis Walsh, 2000). Although criminality and
antisocial personality disorder ought not be equated, they should be seen as closely linked
behavioral phenomena (Ellis Walsh, 2000). Vitella (1996) believes that individuals with childhood
conduct disorder have a higher than normal probability of being both criminal and diagnosed
antisocial personality disorder in adolescence and adulthood, and persons with serious criminal
records have a higher probability of being diagnosed psychopathic than those with little or no
criminal history. Nevertheless, Ellis Walsh (2000) in caution pointed out that these

Evolution And Catastrophes
Patterns of Vertebrate Evolution and Catastrophes
Catastrophic events, such as mass extinctions, floods, earthquakes, disease, and more recently war,
are all events that have shaped vertebrate evolution through time. In prehistoric times, mass
extinctions have been caused by asteroid and meteor impacts, which can cause serious
environmental damage by ejecting dust and debris (Carpenter and Bishop, 2009). The stress from
the impact could trigger additional earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and would further eradicate
living species from the globe following the direct impact of an asteroid or meteor (Carpenter and
Bishop, 2009). With recent research in the Deccan plateau of India following the KPg extinction,

The phenology of vertebrates was greatly altered by the mass extinctions and catastrophes that
have occurred in history and still have an effect on vertebrates today. The main hypothesis for the
global climate change following mass extinctions, particularly the Cretaceous Paleogene (KPg), is
black carbon spread throughout the globe and altered solar radiation to create a system of global
cooling (Kaiho et al., 2016). The cooling of the Earth s temperature created a sudden drop in
precipitation and a 50 60% decrease in sunlight following the impact of the asteroid (Kaiho et al.,
2016). Research shows that following the impact of the KPg extinction precipitation has
substantially decreased and depends on the latitude (Kaiho 2016). The Late Ordovician mass
extinction was the first of the Big Five and can be clearly connected with climate change (Finnegan
et al., 2012). The Late Ordovician mass extinction can be explained by the climactic common cause
hypothesis, which states that climate cooling has a direct influence on extinction rates by forcing
tropical taxa to live in climates that did not match their niche (Finnegan et al., 2012). In a research
study done on the effects of climate change in the Late Ordovician, patterns of thermal tolerance
range indicators show cooling and habitat loss as an important driver

Should We Continue Human Cloning
One event that will probably in happen in the near future is human cloning. Human cloning began
inevitable when Scottish scientists made Dolly. The sheep was cloned on July 5, 1996 which

actually formed without a sperm. So Dollys cell began from a sheep and was fused with a donor egg

to perfect human cloning. So people decided to clone animals because it seemed more ethical than
testing humans. President Clinton signed a five year contract so they can began the cloning of

Persuasive Essay On Shootings
Imagine your next door neighbor owns an AR 15, which he has turned it into an automatic
weapon and his excuse is that it s for his safety. Would this make you feel safe? There are more
guns in America than there are people and most of those guns are semi automatic weapons. These
semi automatic weapons truthfully don t serve any purpose for the average person. Most mass
shootings have included some kind of a semi automatic weapon. According to Sach since the ban
of 1994, there hasn t really been a strong push to ban semi automatic weapons. The ban did expire
in 2004 furthermore was not renewed and since then mass shootings have skyrocketed up.
However, some people still try to argue that it s for protection or for hunting or they might say
something like Guns don t kill people, people kill people but as Shammas said it s time to retire that

By the 1980 s and into most of the 1990 s, the Asian marketplace in its entirety could have been

a GDP growth rate nearing about 10% per year which was about 4 to 5 times the growth rate of the
US economy at the time. This began in the 80 s when foreign investments in most Asian countries
began to increase. Stable governments were luring foreign investors, with the promise of high

As the economy in Thailand began to slow, foreign confidence in it began to falter as well. Just
like many other currencies, the value of Thai currency (the Baht) had been pegged to the US
dollar in order to ensure stability. At the time, however, the robust US economy was raising the
value of the dollar, therefore the value of the baht, causing some foreign investors to believe that
it was overvalued. Investors began selling the baht in exchange for the US dollar because the
dollar s value had a more certain future. Speculators jumped on the bandwagon and began selling
their supply of baht in record amounts in order to lower its value and realize a profit. In July of
1997, Thailand s central bank devalued the baht or unpegged and lowered its value from the dollar
in an effort to stop the sudden and massive sell off in order to restore confidence in the currency.
When used in non emergency situations, devaluation of a country s currency can work to its
advantage. When Thailand devalued the baht, it was able to lower the price of Thai goods in US
dollar terms, which made making those products more competitive in foreign markets. Devaluation
also tends to attract foreign investment in the country. However, this created an emergency
situation, and devaluation of the baht only revealed the fundamental weaknesses in the Thai
economy and banking system which continued in the domino effect to other Asian countries.

Quick Guide to Citing Sources in APA Style
While the Publication Manual may look overwhelming to you when you first start using it,
remember that nearly everything you need to know can be found in three sections of the manual.
Formatting in text citations can be found in chapter 6.
The gist of what you need to know for references lists can be found in the examples in chapter 7.
Formatting In text Citations
These basic rules relate to in text citations.
1.Use the author/date system. Be careful with your punctuation. Gould s (1999) analysis was later
challenged by others (Duncan, 2003; Evans amp; Barker, 2004). Notice that the two pairs of
studies are separated with a semicolon and that you use an ampersand ( amp;) as a substitute for the
word and when you showing the names of authors inside parentheses.
2.Do not plagiarize. Just changing a couple of words or rearranging a sentence isn t paraphrasing.
For direct quotes, you must identify the page number or paragraph number of the original source.
For paraphrases, you are strongly encouraged to do so. See below for how to cite an online source
such as the DSM.

Essay On Port Royal
Introduction
In the Civil War, there were many battles and key points that helped in the victory of the Union.
The Battle of Port Royal was the second battle of the Civil War. The Battle of Port Royal
culminated an amphibious operation designed to establish a United States military depot on the
southeastern coast to carry out land and sea operations against the Confederacy (Wise 2016). This
battle gave the Union its first victory. In November 1861 the Union attacked the Confederate at Port
Royal, South Carolina. This battle lasted for four days from November Third, 1861 to November
Seventh, 1861. This battle had the Union fighting the Confederate for control over the port. The
Union took control and shut down the port. This Union victory shut down a place of resources for
the Confederate.
Background Information
Three days after the fall of Fort Sumter in April of 1861, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed
a blockade of all Southern ports ( The story of the Battle of Port Royal 2012).After the fall of Fort
Sumter, there was a new order for the ports to be closed. The South refused this order. Because of
this refusal, the Union wanted to punish the South. The North had a plan to form a blockade of the
Southern ports. In order to continue with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

together and keep one part of the nation under control. If this battle never took place then where
America is now would be split into two different countries and would still have slaves. This battle
was a necessary battle in the Civil War. It allowed the North to have a key position on Charleston
and South Carolina in general. The battle gave the Union a step up in the

Death Of A Salesman Family Essay
What is a dysfunctional family ? A dysfunctional family is a family that has many issues, such as
not trusting each other; lying to each other; and not being there for each other; etc., that are
unnoticed by the family members. In the play, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, the Loman
family are considered a dysfunctional family. The Loman family has many issues present
throughout the play. Some of the issues that classify the Loman family as a dysfunctional family
are: the parents being codependent on each other; an absence of faith between family members and
/or themselves; and a lack of caring for one another.
One of the characteristics of the Loman family that classifies them as a Dysfunctional family is that
Willy and Linda, the parents of the Loman Family, are codependent, dependent on each other. They
are dependent on the other for very different reasons. Willy needs Linda due to the fact that she

This quote makes it seem that Biff has a low self confidence, but the entire Loman family has a
low amount of faith for their family members or themselves. For the most part Willy doubted
that Biff is going to make something of his life or get a proper job, but Willy had short periods
where he had faith for Biff. Both Happy and Biff does not have faith that Willy will stop using
the pipe to breathe gas from the heater. At the end of the play, Biff doubts that Willy or he will
be achieving their dreams. Linda had faith that Biff and Happy liked their father, but at the end of
the play she said [Cutting Happy off, violently to Biff] Don t you care whether he lives or dies?
(Miller 97). All of these events show how little amount of faith the Loman family has. Having little
faith for each other and themselves, can be damaging to all of their future relationships and
friendships they might have and could make them not want to have any serious relationships later in

Why Morality Is Wrong
I m certain you ve heard this statement in your life, if you choose the right choice it will lead
you to a good path. Overall nobody s perfect,Just because someone does something wrong doesn
t make them a bad person. One reason why morality is sometimes acceptable is when you re in a
situation where someone s life is in danger. If someone in your family is threatening their life,
but you re somewhere else, and you are speeding to get there because it was a desperate
situation. You re trying to get to them as fast as you can to save their life. So you don t care
about what you have to do because you re trying to save them. It s acceptable because you don t
have a choice. In addition another reason is bullying. When you

Roads Dbq
There has always been a demand for roads in the United States as roads are essential in the
development of a nation. The national interstate highway system was America s solution for the
need of a road system that would stretch from coast to coast. The United States Interstate Highway
System is a landmark project and often considered one of the greatest public works projects in
American history by making travel by automobile faster, cheaper, safer and more convenient.
New roads have been a necessity on our country ever since Henry Ford began to produce the
automobile back in in 1903. In the early 1900s, the Office of Road Inquiries estimated that only
twelve percent of the roads in the United States were paved (Blas 1). Unpaved roads made ... Show

building an interstate highways system. One of the major consequences people faced was the
destruction of neighborhoods that were in the way of building the highways. People began to
fight against the building of new roads and offer. For example people in big cities such as New
York City, The District of Columbia and Baltimore stopped roadbuilder from destroying their
homes and building through their neighborhoods. This caused some highway projects to just stop,

Examples Of Judgement In The Crucible
Judgment in society
In western culture, societies are very quick to judge individuals or invent stories in order to place
blame on someone. More times than none, society is faced with one person s word against another
s, the unfortunate part is that only one word is true. Thus, society is then forced to decide who s
lying and who is not, based on opinions and assumptions that follow their own values and beliefs.
This is exactly what happens to John Proctor and Hester Prynne in The Crucible by Arthur Miller
and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In both works, the characters are faced with cruel
punishments, and isolation due to the harsh judgment made by their society.
In The Crucible, John Proctor is sentenced to be hanged because he was accused of ... Show more

However, that backfires and leads to his death PROCTOR, breathless and in agony: It [Abigail]
is a whore! DANFORTH, dumfounded: You charge ? ABIGAIL: Mr. Danforth, he is lying!
PROCTOR: Mark her! Now she ll suck a scream to stab me with but (Miller, III.374 384). In this
case when society was faced with two stories, but they only believed the one that suited their
values, it went to the extent of witchcraft being more believable than dancing and fooling around in
the forest. In Society vs The Individual In Arthur Miller s The Crucible written by Jean‐Marie
Bonnet, she states The crucible presents us with a small village falling prey to a collective fear
that witchcraft is about, lurking in some of its citizens. (Bonnet, 32). She refers to how the towns
fear of witchcraft leads to the wrongful death of so many citizens. Sadly the town does not
necessarily want to punish those citizens, it is more along of the lines of making a statement
saying they are not afraid. However, in the process of this, they end up judging those that do not

Advantages Of The Dsm-5 Classification System
Essay Questions to the DSM IV Rodney Thomas Sr. Western International University Abnormal
Psychology BEH 440 3281 Professor, Mollie Surgine December 18, 2017 Essay questions to the
DSM The DSM is a classified system used by psychiatrist and other clinical professions in order
to diagnose clients and patients who show signs of some type of disorder. The two advantages of
using this model or classification system ranges from the validity of an assessment used by
clinicians and other health care professionals. Build around the concepts and purposes for the DSM
model is that it supports a number of standard assessments of diagnosing different treatment
providers. Furthermore, (Comer, J. 2016) suggest that the DSM 5 requires clinicians to provide
both categorical and dimensional information which is part of being consistent in diagnosing. From
a categorical perspective this refers to the name of a particular category of a disorder which is
indicated on behalf of the client s symptoms. From the dimensional perspective it is a rating of how
the client symptoms and the severity of the dysfunction through various dimensions. Drawbacks
The controversy and criticism surrounding the DSM 5 models has raised questions about its
credibility and has raised concerns from the public on the reliability and effectiveness. Problems
with this classification system is the attempt to promote preventive psychiatry by introducing how

Why Should Human Cloning Be Banned
Introduction Cloning is the process of manipulating DNA and embryonic stem cells to create an
identical living organism. The purpose of cloning is to find medical treatments and to reduce
human suffering (Rosalyn). Is it wrong? Is it disrespectful toward nature itself? According to Sir
John Gordon, cloningis not as playing God it is simply copying what nature has already produced
(Gordon). This new development established a series of debates because if there are technologies
that enable humans to artificially create mammal, sooner or later the same process will be
performed on human. This points to the question, should human cloning be banned? (Cloning: An
Overview). Even though there are numerous critics who believe human cloning... Show more

Overtime the fusions between cells occur and form an embryo. This could lead to the transfer of
healthy cell in an unborn child who contains diseases due to genetics from the parents.
Unfortunately the research was banned. There are a lot of obstacles standing between the
researches of human cloning that could possibly save many lives.
Diseases such as Alzheimer and cardiovascular diseases can be cured by the process of cloning.
Scientists have discovered a method of creating stem cells (an unspecialized cell that has the
ability to become any various differentiated cell) from an embryo. Genetic copies of DNA from a
living healthy person are inserted into an egg which divides in the process of cell division or
meiosis, and grows into an embryo. If the process is successful, stem cells are then extracted, with
the healthy gene placed in the DNA, the cells can divides and produce a healthful system. This
whole procedure is for the purpose of improving treatment. However, this action puts fear into a lot
of people s minds of using stem cells for other purposes (Healy). Stem cells can be produced for the
desire of new treatments has the potential to fight viruses in the human system and the prosperity
will soon outweighed the terror of human cloning.
Therapeutic cloning has the potential use stem cells to cure diseases. Although there are many
benefits the process of obtaining stem cells depends upon the massacre of the embryo. Nonetheless
the benefits

  • 2. DNA Restriction Fragmentation Patterns DNA electrophoreses was developed in 1984 by Dr. Alex Jeffreys. The use of DNA electrophoresis quickly became a way to convict criminals of crimes. DNA electrophoresis has also helped identify genetic diseases markers as well as the identification of the remains of humans. (DNA Fingerprinting ID of DNARestriction Fragmentation Patterns). In order to create a DNA fingerprint, a sample of cells containing DNA must be obtained first. This may be in the form of hair, blood, or skin. DNA is extracted and purified from the cells. This was originally done with restriction fragment length polymorphic technology. During this procedure, DNA is broken down into individual strands at specific locations. These strands, known as restriction enzymes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. American Gangster Analysis When the Vietnam War began in 1955, America changed forever. News organizations televised the war, inducing a communal sense of disenchantment throughout America s public that led to the popularity of the anti Vietnam movement. This anti war movement eventually developed into a counterculture that influenced a large amount of the public to experiment with illegal substances. President Nixon saw drug abuse as a major problem and introduced a War on Drugs that simultaneously allowed him to target minority groups and worsen racism within the government. The film American Gangstertakes place during the 1960s, in the midst of America s chaotic drug milieu. The film American Gangster does a wonderful job portraying America s countercultural movement, yet falls short when portraying journalism during the Vietnam War and the negative impact of Nixon s drug war on minorities. The Research Synopsis Part I: In the year of 1968, drugs rule the streets of Harlem, and a man named Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson (Clarence Williams III) rules drugs. Bumpy teaches his bodyguard named Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) everything he knows as he goes about his business, and Frank is well prepared to take over the streets when Bumpy peacefully passes away. However, Bumpy s funeral shows Frank that power over the drug industry is now divided amongst powerful people, and Frank is not one of them. Frank sees these people as unfit for the job and makes a vow to take back what is his in Bumpy s name ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Brain Specialization The human brain is one of the most complex systems in nature. Neuroscientists have referred to the brain as the final frontier of science (Pavlopoulos et al., 2011). A substantial amount of the brain s physiological functions involves collecting information from the body, interpreting the information, and directing the body s response. The brainrecognizes odors, light, sounds, and pain. The study of anatomical and functional connectivity of the nervous systemcreates an understanding of the brain specialization and integration (Sporms et al., 2005). The temporal dependence of neuronal activity between different brain regions is known as functional connectivity and is examined by measuring the coherence of resting state fMRI time series. Continuous debates about the low frequency oscillation of fMRI... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies support the latter view of low frequency oscillation of fMRI connected with the cortical region that are known to aid in functional networks such as the motor, visual, and auditory regions. Furthermore, recently blood oxygen level dependent fluctuations correlate with fluctuations in neuronal spiking, suggesting a link between resting state time lag signals originating from neuronal activity and form functional resting state brain networks (Biswal et al., 1995; Greicius et. al., in press; Gusnard et al., Shmuel and Leopoid, 2008). A recent human study on resting state fMRI involved 28 subjects on a 3 Tesla MR scanner showing how individual dataset can form a functional connectivity graph. In this context, a graph consists of a set of vertices representing the nodes and set of edges representing the connections between the nodes (Pavlopoulos et al., 2011). A graph can show functional brain connections through a network of regions. The connections are direct links to the ability to systematize information and communicate effectively. There are two classifications of networks that help identify the number of connections per ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Umrao Jaan In the film Umrao Jaan, the story is narrated by a woman who was kidnapped at a young age. Umrao Jaan is a courtesan genre film in Bollywood. This genre often portrays the life of a courtesan. In this film, A young girl (whose name is Amiran) is abducted by her father s enemy and sold to a brothel where she learns to read, write, sing, and dance. She becomes an accomplished courtesan; in a song sequence which compromises time, we see her grow up while learning how to sing and dance. This song marks the beginning and training of her courtesan lifestyle. Towards the end of the film, we get another song sequence where Umrao Jaan performs her poetry, Yeh Kya Jagah Hai Doston. I will analyze this song as the song speaks of her sense of confusion, loss, and ache for home. In this song, Umrao has returned to her hometown of Faizabad (from where she was abducted). She sings the song outside her biological home. Umrao as a courtesan, was a sex worker who was often ostracized and condemned from the society. Due to Umrao being known in society as a prostitute she is unable to find fulfillment in love. Through her songs and dance we see how she expresses how much she desires to live a life beyond her condemned situation. Umrao in her life has gone through various periods of rejection and oppression in her life. Through her verses of poetry she express her predicament and feelings of loneliness. In the finale of the film, Umrao returns to Faizabad. She is asked to perform a song where in the town she is known as a stranger. As the song starts we see a flashback of Umrao when she was younger with her brother which, tells us this song will express how much it means for her to back in her old town and the sadness that she will convey. Umrao as she sings the first line saying, What is this place, my friends you see her eyes start to glisten with tears as she sings. She goes on to say What location is this. Where, as far one can see, there s dust and only dust. She is saying that she is alone like she is living in a desert, and the sadness and grief is overwhelming, that she cannot feel anything else other than sadness. • 6. The Word Of God Is An Essential Component Of The... Group A: Question 1 The Word of God is an essential component of the foundation of one s faith. Ultimately, the concepts that are disclosed through the Word of God are those that the believer abides to throughout the theological journey is his or her life. First, we must understand what the Word of God is and how it functions as a sacrament. In essence, the Word of God is the manifestation of JesusChrist himself but more importantly, the Word of God is the word of God s grace. Now, one can begin to understand how the Word of God functions as a sacrament. Ultimately, the sacrament functions as an instrument to disclose God s desire. The Word of God, therefore, functions as a sacrament as it discloses the infinite potential of God whose ultimate purpose is to allow a human to experience their ultimate potential. In this case, the Word of God, functions as a sacrament as it demonstrates a theological association with the physical, Jesus Christ, and the mystical, God s ultimate desire to allow humans to experience their true capacity. Finally, however, one must understand the function of the church in the context of the Word of God and its sacramental nature. As mentioned, the Word of God is discloses God s ultimate desire to allow a human to reach his or her ultimate capacity. However, the Word alone is not sufficient to work faith and conversion, but is yet the necessary instrument. • 8. The Communist Manifesto Marx And Engels For Karl Marx, the analysis of social class, class structures and changes in those structures are key to understanding capitalism and other social systems or modes of production. In the Communist Manifesto Marx and Engels comment that the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. Analysis of class divisions and struggles is especially important in developing an understanding of the nature of capitalism. For Marx, classes are defined and structured by the relations concerning (i) work and labour and (ii) ownership or possession of property and the means of production. These economic factors more fully govern social relationships in capitalism than they did in earlier societies. While earlier societies contained various strata or groupings which might be considered classes, these may have been strata or elites that were not based solely on economic factors like that of priesthood, knights, or military elite. Marx s theories about society, economics and politics, which are collectively known as Marxism, argue that all society progresses through the dialectic of class struggle. He was heavily critical of the current socio economic form of society, capitalism, which he called the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie, believing it to be run by the wealthy middle and upper classes purely for their own benefit, and predicted that it would inevitably produce internal tensions which would lead to its self destruction and replacement by a new system, ... From 2012 to 2016, although an average of 50,000 foster kids were adopted annually, an extremely high number of children are still in need of a stable home. Fortunately, in recent years, there has been an increasing desire for people in America to raise a familyand nurture a child and this is common among married couples as well as single men and women. However, there have been some conflicts concerning whether single individuals are capable to adopt or if having a single parent is in the best interest of these foster kids. This narrow ideology simply doesn t make any sense when one looks at the makeup of the present day, typical American family. Numerous single parent families exist throughout the U.S. today. Moreover, many would argue that these households maintain just as much of a loving, caring, and safe environment for their children as that of a married couple, if not more. Being single today has become common and quite normal for Americans. This is mostly in part due to individuals taking preference in pursuing a single lifestyle over being in a marriage. With the enormous rise in the divorce rate year after year, it is apparent that sometimes a married lifestyle can become unfavorable and ultimately irreparable. In most of these situations, the end result proves to be a very adverse, troublesome time for the couple in the relationships especially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Three Colonies In North America During The 1600s The French established three colonies in North America during the 1600s and 1700s. Louisiana and Canada were two of the three colonies. The colony of Canada extended from the north east coast where New Foundland was, down to the Great Lakes. Canada had no real settlements, however, they had many posts which served as trading posts and military support. The colony experienced harsh winters and short growing seasons and because of this their farming efforts usually failed and populations never grew. Since they had little to no success in farming, their economy thrived on fur trade with natives. By creating close ties with the natives they were able to trade metal goods for fur and then craft the fur and later profit from it. In the 1660s the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The French wanted to set up a colony on the North American interior to control fertile farm land as well as to keep the rivals out of the interior. Louisiana was founded to provide the French a southern outlet for their fur trade. When the colony was first established it was ignored by the French due to the War of Spanish Succession taking place in France Colonists from Canada who had wilderness experience were drawn down while colonists from France had no colonial life experience(Jones, 2014, 57). • 14. Oral Tradition And The Middle Ages Much of the known history of a certain nation, which survived the Middle Ages, is derived from a specific story or collection of stories. These stories are defined as epics, because they often contain a hero or heroic group that slayed an evil force of some kind. One of the greatest effects the epics had on the tribes or communities of the Middle Ageswas their unifying influence. Through oral tradition, the tribal communities were brought together to be educated in their history. With the prevailing overthrow of the Roman Empire, the European world was brought into a period known as the Dark Ages. Learning via oral tradition was rather common during the Middle Ages, as the literacy skills to read and write mostly died with the beginning of Germanic triberule. Oral tradition also provided people something to compare themselves to what they strive to be. The epics allowed for the tribal people to be unified with a common goal. This was more often than not the objective of keeping their history, and the most dominant way of achieving this came through defeating their enemies who wished to overthrow the tradition. The tribes were brought together to fight the outsider enemy. These outsiders were viewed as being different based on their life, religious, and/or cultural views. Two of the most significant elements in defining how epics create nations are the effects war and Christianity had on the culture. The epic of Beowulfwas successful in defining Anglo Saxon culture. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also they would respect the spirits that had died and offered sacrifices to make their hunt or crops successful. • 17. Disparities In US Birth Rates Of Hispanic Adolescents The main ethnic/racial groups affected by the health issue are non Hispanic African American females, Hispanic females, and Native Americans/Native Alaskans. There were key study findings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that found that U.S. birth rates for adolescents vary considerably by race and Hispanic origin (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). Thus, this provides even more clear evidence on the difference of ethnic/racial groups. Additionally, in 2008, the birth rate for Hispanic adolescents was approximately five times the rate for Asian /Pacific Islander adolescents, three times the rate for non Hispanic white adolescents, and somewhat higher than the rates for non Hispanic African American and Native American/Native Alaskan adolescents (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). This brings caution, as according to The Pew Charitable Trusts, although teen pregnancy and birth rates have declined over the past two decades, states still face the reality that African American and Latina teens are more than twice as likely as white teens to become pregnant (Wiltz, T. 2015).... • 20. Women s Struggle For Equality Women in American society have endured numerous struggles to fight for equality throughout history. Today American women have come a long way by narrowing gender gaps and becoming successful in aspects of life that are prominently male dominated. Although American women are living a better life than they were years ago, they still deal with inequality when it comes to the workforce, income, politics, domestic duties, and sex. The reason women are not equal to men in these aspects of life are because men hold most of the jobs in the STEM fields of work, make higher incomes than women in the same level of employment, dominate congress and the government, not looked upon to take care of the house duties, and are praised for sex rather than shamed like women are. Living as an American woman today is far from difficult but in contrast, living as an American man is still substantially better. Women have dealt with constant battles in the workplace but the most important was the ability to work alongside men in any field of employment. As stated in the article, Women in the Professional Workplace by Jennifer Dorning, the status for women in the workforce has improved over the last several decades, but many women still struggle for equality in many occupations (Dorning). For example, women are extremely underrepresented in the fields of science, technology development, and engineering making up only 20% of the people employed in these particular categories (Pinker). Each man would draw his semifinal match for the day, the outcome of which would determine who would face off in the champion s tilt the next day. Alayna watched on her breath caught in her throat as she wished for Arthur to draw either Griff or Ser Barristan for this round. Fate, however, was not on their side as he drew Prince Rhaegar s name. Bowing her head, the lady from Highgarden sighed. This had not been what she d been hoping for at all, what should ve been the final tilt of the tournament was going to happen that day. Feeling someone s gaze upon her, Alayna lifted her jade eyes to meet Arthur s violet stare. The Sword of the Morning offered his lady an assuring smile as he touched the collar of his breast plate, upon closer inspection Alayna could see a puff of white cloth sticking out from underneath the armor near his neck. • 24. The Art Cinema As A Mode Of Film Essay Article Three Author: David Bordwell / Title of Article: The Art Cinema as a Mode of Film Bordwell, D. (1979). The art cinema as a mode of film practice. Film Criticism, 4(1), 56 64.
David Bordwell wrote his article The Art Cinema as a Mode of Film in an effort to convey the main idea that art cinema can be considered as a distinct mode of film practice, through its definite historical existence alongside other cinematic modes, set of formal conventions, and implicit viewing procedures. Rather than searching for the source of the art, or what drives the art in film, Bordwell compares art cinema to the classical narrative cinema, and highlights the differences in narrative structure. Bordwell makes the assumption that it defined itself against the classical narrative mode; especially with the way it deals with space, time, and the cause and effect link of events. To support this idea, Bordwell illustrates how art cinema motivates its narratives differently, through two principles: realism and authorial expressivity. Firstly he proposes the notion that art films reflect realism in their characters, space, and time. Psychologically complex characters are present in real worlds dealing with true to life situations. Art cinema is concerned with the characters reaction to these situations, rather than their action . Thus it bares an element of psychological subjectivity as the characters survey the world they are in, which aids the realisation of the distress of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finally, as with CJ Industries cost benefit analysis, Heavey Pumps ought to decide if they should continue to service CJ Industries. If so, perhaps consider changing from their current informal, noncontract basis to a more long term agreement. 2. Discuss the advantages, disadvantages, and risks of each of these alternatives. Option 1 continue to use Heavey Pumps. This would be probably the easiest decision since Heavey Pumps had been a reliable supplier for CJI for a number of years. This is also contingent on Heavey Pumps and the issues discussed above, i.e. quality and performance, price, delivery timing and volume requirements. The disadvantage would be CJ Industries may need to consider another supplier which might not prove to be as reliable. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In prehistoric times, mass extinctions have been caused by asteroid and meteor impacts, which can cause serious environmental damage by ejecting dust and debris (Carpenter and Bishop, 2009). The stress from the impact could trigger additional earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and would further eradicate living species from the globe following the direct impact of an asteroid or meteor (Carpenter and Bishop, 2009). The phenology of vertebrates was greatly altered by the mass extinctions and catastrophes that have occurred in history and still have an effect on vertebrates today. The main hypothesis for the global climate change following mass extinctions, particularly the Cretaceous Paleogene (KPg), is black carbon spread throughout the globe and altered solar radiation to create a system of global cooling (Kaiho et al., 2016). The cooling of the Earth s temperature created a sudden drop in precipitation and a 50 60% decrease in sunlight following the impact of the asteroid (Kaiho et al., 2016). Research shows that following the impact of the KPg extinction precipitation has substantially decreased and depends on the latitude (Kaiho 2016). The Late Ordovician mass extinction was the first of the Big Five and can be clearly connected with climate change (Finnegan et al., 2012). The Late Ordovician mass extinction can be explained by the climactic common cause hypothesis, which states that climate cooling has a direct influence on extinction rates by forcing tropical taxa to live in climates that did not match their niche (Finnegan et al., 2012). • 49. Examples Of Judgement In The Crucible Judgment in society In western culture, societies are very quick to judge individuals or invent stories in order to place blame on someone. More times than none, society is faced with one person s word against another s, the unfortunate part is that only one word is true. Thus, society is then forced to decide who s lying and who is not, based on opinions and assumptions that follow their own values and beliefs. This is exactly what happens to John Proctor and Hester Prynne in The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In both works, the characters are faced with cruel punishments, and isolation due to the harsh judgment made by their society. In The Crucible, John Proctor is sentenced to be hanged because he was accused of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case when society was faced with two stories, but they only believed the one that suited their values, it went to the extent of witchcraft being more believable than dancing and fooling around in the forest. In Society vs The Individual In Arthur Miller s The Crucible written by Jean‐Marie Bonnet, she states The crucible presents us with a small village falling prey to a collective fear that witchcraft is about, lurking in some of its citizens. (Bonnet, 32). She refers to how the towns fear of witchcraft leads to the wrongful death of so many citizens. Sadly the town does not necessarily want to punish those citizens, it is more along of the lines of making a statement saying they are not afraid. However, in the process of this, they end up judging those that do not follow their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Why Should Human Cloning Be Banned Introduction Cloning is the process of manipulating DNA and embryonic stem cells to create an identical living organism. The purpose of cloning is to find medical treatments and to reduce human suffering (Rosalyn). Is it wrong? Is it disrespectful toward nature itself? According to Sir John Gordon, cloningis not as playing God it is simply copying what nature has already produced (Gordon). This new development established a series of debates because if there are technologies that enable humans to artificially create mammal, sooner or later the same process will be performed on human. Unfortunately the research was banned. There are a lot of obstacles standing between the researches of human cloning that could possibly save many lives. Diseases such as Alzheimer and cardiovascular diseases can be cured by the process of cloning. Scientists have discovered a method of creating stem cells (an unspecialized cell that has the ability to become any various differentiated cell) from an embryo. Genetic copies of DNA from a living healthy person are inserted into an egg which divides in the process of cell division or meiosis, and grows into an embryo. If the process is successful, stem cells are then extracted, with the healthy gene placed in the DNA, the cells can divides and produce a healthful system. This whole procedure is for the purpose of improving treatment. However, this action puts fear into a lot of people s minds of using stem cells for other purposes (Healy). Stem cells can be produced for the desire of new treatments has the potential to fight viruses in the human system and the prosperity will soon outweighed the terror of human cloning. Therapeutic cloning has the potential use stem cells to cure diseases. Although there are many benefits the process of obtaining stem cells depends upon the massacre of the embryo.
