FrankensteinВґs Frankenstein And Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
There is something at work in my soul, which I do not understand. 1 Mary Shelley Frankenstein, a
novel written by Mary Shelley, was published in 1818, a first of its kind. The novel is considered
to be the first depiction of science fiction, with infused elements of the Gothic novel and romantic
movement. 2 Today this masterpiece largely influences literature studies and popular culture,
especially in the aspect of film creation. Various adaptations of Mary Shelley s Frankensteinhas been
created, but the only motion picture that remains close to the novel is Kenneth Branagh s Mary
Shelley s Frankenstein (1994). The novel and film have made many details conspicuous for
comparison and contrast; details that related to the beginning, the monster s creation, and Elizabeth
s death and rebirth.
The novel and film have alike beginnings, yet there are features changed by Kenneth Branagh. Mary
Shelley s novel specifically started off with a letter written by Walton. The author chose letters from
another character to start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kenneth Branagh follows through with creating the same setting as Mary Shelley did in the
beginning of her novel, yet leaves out details about the family s history and the death of
Frankenstein s mother. Similarly, the novel portrayed that Frankenstein did his own work, whereas
the film displays that his work was a continuation of Professor Waldman s. Related to the same
scene, Mary Shelley spoke little about Frankenstein s physical experimentation and how it was
done, where in contrast it was the main focus of the film. One point of clear difference is the
ending. Even though Elizabeth dies in both the novel and the film, Kenneth Branagh takes
Elizabeth s character further. He does this by allowing her to be reborn through Frankenstein s
experimentation and by then killing her off as she sets herself on

Poison Ivy Monologue
Poison Ivy
May 15, 2012 at 10:17pm
Poison Ivy by Sydney J. Tanner When I was 19, I was attending Utah State University, in Logan
Utah. I lived in a beautiful canyon in the mountains and went hiking and camping a lot. One
camping trip, being a bit naive and inexperienced I wiped with the nearest green leaf I could
find. What followed was an excruciating lesson never to be forgotten. Not being from Utah, I had
never seen or been around poison ivy before. Later that fall, I was on a committee decorating for
an autumn formal dance. I gathered interesting and colorful vines and weeds to make thirteen large
wreaths for the walls. After I hung the last wreath for the dance that evening, I realized something
dreadful. Gee, poison ivy changes color in the fall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Berries white, run in fright. The old adage still stands. As a Wisconsin Master Gardener, I share
my embarrassing story with you for a reason. Some people still don t know what poison ivy
looks like. When I tell this story, I get to hear other people s awkward tales of adventure in the
ivy. They range from honeymoon disasters, to children playing tag in it, to beloved pets rolling
in it and then jumping into bed with their masters that evening. Poison Ivy (Taxicodendron
radicans, also called Rhus radicans) is a member of the Anacardiaceae family (Sumac/Cashew)
and is a native woody plant in Wisconsin. It is considered a noxious weed. It spreads both
vegetatively and sexually. The seeds are spread by animal feces. The plant also sends out
underground rhizomes, from which dense patches of green spring up. It flowers in late spring to
early summer. The yellow white flowers are clusters of five sepals and five petals tiny florets on a
stalk, or petiole. The greenish white to all white, lined fruit forms midsummer to mid autumn and
is technically called a drupe. Most people call it a berry. They grow to be about 6 mm wide and
stand upright on the stem, instead of

The Community Mental Health Centers Act Of 1963 Closed...
Many years ago, mental illness was viewed as a demonic possession or a religious punishment. In
the 18th century, the attitudes towards mental illness were negative and persistent. This negativity
leads to the stigmatization and confinement of those who were mentally ill. The mentally ill were
sent to mental hospitals that were unhealthy and dangerous. A push in the mid 1950s for
deinstitutionalization began because of activists lobbying for change. Dorothea Dix was one of
these activists that helped push for change. The change called for more community oriented care
rather than asylum based care. The Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963 closed state
psychiatric hospitals throughout the United States. Only individuals who posed an imminent
danger to themselves or someone else could be committed to state psychiatric hospitals (A Brief
History of Mental Illness and the U.S. Mental Health Care System). Deinstitutionalization meant to
improve quality of life and treatment for those who are mentally ill. This would hopefully result in
the mentally ill receiving treatment so they could live more independently. The hope was that
community mental health programs would provide this treatment but sadly there was not sufficient
or ongoing funding to meet the growing demand for these programs. Budgets for mental hospitals
were reduced but there was no increase for the community based programs. Many mentally ill
individuals have been moved to nursing homes or other residential

The Case Of Douglas And Donna Perry
Humans are gifted with the ability to think unlike other animals and at the same time some have
evil behavior. Criminals do everything they can to runaway whether leaving the country or
creating a false persona in a different town. In the case of Douglas and Donna Perry, they are
linked due to fingerprints and DNA from three crimescenes in 1990. Douglas had transgender
surgery to become a female called Donna Perry and according to court documents Donna s
memories and actions are similar to Douglas.. Douglas was a repeated violent offender with an
obsession with prostitutes and guns. Donna has moral responsibility for the the crimes of Douglas

How Carbon Dioxide Affect The Levels Of The Ocean
How does Carbon Dioxide affect the pH levels of the ocean? Carbon Dioxide or CO2 for short is
one of the most important gases in our atmosphere. Even though it is not abundant as Nitrogen and
Oxygen which is a key part of life on earth; carbon dioxide also shares the same job as them.
Carbon dioxide is vital to life on earth and plays an important role to plants during photosynthesis.
Without photosynthesis plants couldn t make oxygen and without oxygen humans wouldn t be able
to survive. CO2 also is important to the atmosphere. Carbon dioxideis an important greenhouse gas
that helps to trap heat in our atmosphere. Without it, our planet would be inhospitably cold. Carbon
Dioxide might be important to us, but it can also be very deadly if there is too much In the
atmosphere and in the ocean.
Over the years Carbon Dioxide has been significantly increasing from human activity. CO2 has a
concentration of about 400 ppmv (parts per million volume). Its concentration in the atmosphere
was about 280 ppmv before the Industrial Revolution, now it has increased immensely to about
380 ppmv in 2006. Many have said Carbon Dioxide has been the main reason or cause of global
warming; saying that if we produce too much of this greenhouse gas it can create a global climate
change. Even though carbon dioxide affects the temperature of the atmosphere it also affects the
acidity of water specifically in the ocean.
As Carbon Dioxide is transferred into the ocean it forms

Improvements in Sports Medicine
A majority of all Americans have participated in at least one sport during their childhood and
adolescent years. Differences exist in both contact and noncontact sports, but the likelihood of
sports related injuries still occur due to physicality or the overuse or misuse of a particular body
part. (www.stanfordchildrens.org). With the common occurrence of injuriesin every sport, recent
times have brought breakthroughs that help athletes recover faster and more effectively. Since its
debut in ancient times, sports medicine has been a big part of all athletes lives with healing and
recovering. From injuries such as ACL damage, shin splints, strains and sprains, muscle cramps,
and concussions, sports related injury is inevitable for most athletes but with the help of medicines
and preventative measures injury can become more and more avoidable. Sports medicine traces
back to the time period of the ancient Greeks. The famous physician and Father of Medicine,
Hippocrates, wrote volumes around the third century BC that focused on his understanding of
fractures, acute diseases, and injuries to the joints. Wrestling was the most popular sport of this
time and the most common source for sports injuries. Depictions of sports injuries are hardly
found on relics because the Greeks were thought to have only showed men not as they are, but as
they should be (bjsportmed.com). Hippocrates is said to have been mentored by the athletic trainer
and doctor, Herodocus, who is

The Danger Of A Single Story Analysis
Popular culture is often a reflection of society; both literature and the media have the capacity to
cement ideas in the minds of readers and viewers. In many cases, the notions and stories glorified
by the media refrain from sharing a true depiction of society and are narrow minded in their focus.
Recently, the feminist movement has denounced popularculturefor its ignorance, fighting for a
more realistic portrait to be painted by those with the power to reach millions. Specifically, both
Roxane Gay s Bad Feminist and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie s The Danger of a Single Story share
how the classic gender stereotypes seen in popular cultureare unable to capture the full spectrum of
stories that define society, and are limiting in their portrayals of women. Moreover, both authors
share personal stories, reference prominent world figures, and cite relevant statistics in their works.
Therefore, in both Bad Feminist and The Danger of a Single Story , Roxane Gay and Chimamanda
Ngozi Adichie appeal to readers pathos, logos, and ethos in order to construct the argument that the
single story of women in popular culture is stereotypical and restrictive. Within her collection of
essays, Roxane Gay uses personal anecdotes that appeal to reader s pathos, constructing her
argument that women are misrepresented and generalized in popular culture by providing an
emotional tether upon which readers can latch on. For example, Gay writes of her experiences as a
struggling adolescent

The Theme Of Mary Lennox s The Secret Garden
Keys can be a dangerous thing to have in possession. They can unlock doors that may remind
people of darker times, or they could open the way to opportunity. Everything in the world has a
key , both literally and figuratively. As Mary Lennox said, I found the key! It s like magic! But
not only did she find the key to the secret garden, she found the key to end her feelings of
abandonment, loss, and neglect. The theme of The Secret Garden is isolation and abandonment.
Even before Mary Lennox even arrives at her new home, she finds herself resenting it. But what
else could she do? The young girl had never experienced love or excitement. Medlock, trying to
pass time, asks her if she has a favorite story. With her arms folded across her chest, and her face
scrunched to show wrinkles, Mary retorts to the Medlock, My mother didn t have the time to tell
me stories. The Medlock, she is surprised, but simply shakes her head and remains silent for the
rest of the journey. Mary had come from India, where she lived with her neglectful parents. Mary
is so emotionally damaged that she said I was angry. I never cried. I didn t know how to cry.
When her parents died, rumors spread that she did not show remorse. At the manor, Mary
quickly gives herself the reputation of being a spoiled girl, as shown when she commanded
Martha to dress her, and then called her unitellegent when Martha was trying to make a joke
about Mary s wardrobe colors, which happened to be black. Mary is upset, but Martha ends up
introducing her to Dickon, who becomes her first friend. Mary goes outside and finds a garden,
and an old man. He asks her why she is here, and she replies and says, Where s the door? Mary
wants to find the key to the garden, as she is intrigued by it. The old man tells her that, No one s
been inside that place for ten years, referencing to the fact that Archibald Craven(Mary s uncle)
closed the garden when his son Colin was born and his wife died. The garden was his wife s
favorite, and they say she died by falling off a swing in the garden. Mary meets Dickon, and they
instantly become friends. Mary wasted no time inviting him into the garden. Dickon tells her to

Difference Between Sex and Gender
Amongst the many popular misconceptions in today s society, the in depth differences between
sex and gender has grown to be one that is discussed extensively by psychologists and sociologists
too. Sex in itself is a more scientific term that explains the innate physical attributes of an individual.
On the other hand gendercarries a more social tone. Meaning, that it refers to the different clothing,
activities, career choices, and positions people hold in society. This essay aims to highlight some of
the key differential aspects between these two concepts; while the term sexhas been well defined
over the years, we learn how the topic of gender managed to rake up an in depth study as well as
gain its own significance in society.
To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People begin to act in ways that are consistent to their self conception which is considered
gratifying. For example a boy may have the following ideological mind set, I am a boy, therefore I
want to do boy things, therefore the opportunity to do boy things (and to gain approval for doing
them) is rewarding (Kohlberg, 1966, p. 89).
To conclude, sex is the biological factor that differentiates females from males and gender on the
other hand is defined by what society considers right and inculcates in males and females that
encouraging masculinity or femininity. We can support the fact how gender has gained prominence
in the world today through facts such as how gender division of labor in the past was the norm and
how it is more of a misconception in certain cultures now. Gender does have a biological approach
as well; scientists have researched extensively how the formation of chromosomes and furthermore
different sex hormones has an effect on masculine and feminine behavioral characteristics. Along
with that, cognitive development which theorizes self conceptualization to be gratifying and
determinant for males and females is also another facet of gender development in the world today
and simply justifies how gender has extended its presence amongst us.

The Role Of Violence In The White Tiger By Aravind Adiga
It cannot fairly be said that in Aravind Adiga s novel, The White Tiger, the only way to escape
the Darkness and advance in society is through violence, as an alternative route to the Light is
presented in the story arc of Vijay, the pig herder s son turned politician. Balram asserts that the
murder of Ashok is not only the direct cause of his new wealth and status, but also the only
possible trigger for his newfound social mobility. Yet, this is contradicted earlier in the story
when he presents Vijay, the bus driver, as his role model for a successful person. Vijay, in order
to achieve his elevated position, resorted to prostitution; despite not being a desirable alternative
to violence, it is an alternative all the same and therefore violence is not the only way to escape
the Darkness. Following this logic, it is Balram s story and the immediate increase in wealth that
results from the murder of Ashok that best supports violence as the only means of moving into the
Light, and Vijay s story is the best evidence against that point of view.
Although Balram argues that violence is his only way of overcoming the poverty he is born into,
Vijay, a manborn into status even lower than Balram s, achieves power and wealth without
resorting to violence. Initially Balram presents Vijay as his role model, condoning the rumors of
his prostitution in order to advance socially. He portrays Vijay as the first entrepreneur [he] knew
of and a man who had made it in life (26), thereby

My First Twenty Years Of One s Life
The first twenty years of one s life not only holds the most dramatic physical changes, but also
extensive changes in the social/emotional and the cognitive stages. Throughout my first twenty
years, I have reached the majority of my physical attributes for adulthood. I have gone from a
babbling infant to a well educated undergraduate student at a pristine univeristy. I have
overcome evolving life circumstances, and I have, in other words, grew up. I plan to use my
life experiences along with Laura E. Berk s psychological research to explain how I have learned
to grow and adapt physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. As history progresses, the
evolution of physical changes to the human body seems to move right along with it. According
to Berk s studies, the secular trends in physical growth over the past 150 years have led to taller
and heavier children in industrialized nations (p 413). Personally, my growth was lower than
these new trends. I was average height, but I have stayed below weight even as I am maturing.
In the prior family generations before me, many males experienced their growth spurt up into the
twenties, so there is the slim chance that the usual teenage spurts didn t hit me because they tend
to fall late in my gene pool. However, I was pretty normal among the physical stages of growth as
a toddler. I was standing alone and walking alone at eleven months (p 184). Even though this is
the average age for most growing children, I was always a

The Hamilton Grange National Memorial
There are many historical sites in New York City that have contributed and still contribute to
America s political history in some way. The historical site that I have decided to expand my
research on is, the Hamilton Grange National Memorial located in Harlem, New York. This site was
the home of Alexander Hamilton, one of the seven foreign born Founding Fathers of the United
States of America. He had a great influence on the foundation of the United States of America, the
United States constitution and the Federalist Party. He was a Military officer, lawyer and member
of the US constitutional convention, an American political philosopher, and author of the majority
of the Federalist Papers.
Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755 in Charlestown, Nevis, in British West Indies.
While working at a shipping company in Nevis, he gained recognition from local contributors who
offered him a formal education. This led to Hamilton coming to New York at the age of seventeen
(1772) to earn an education at Kings University, which is now Columbia University. During his
college career, Hamilton caught an interest in American politics, specifically, the American Patriots.
Eventually, he became a huge supporter of the patriots revolutionary movement against pro British
loyalists. Hamilton educated himself on the revolutionary movement enough to write political
articles that legitimized revolutionary actions. These articles caught the attention of many people

Leadership Is The Process Of Influencing People
Nurse Leader According to Huber (2010), leadership is the process of influencing people to
accomplish goals (p. 4). Management is then defined as the process of coordinating and integrating
resources by planning, directing, and organizing. Huber (2010) then goes on to explain that
effective leadership is a blend of both leadershipand managementprinciples and techniques. It is
important for nurses in management positions to demonstrate effective leadership qualities. This
includes having good interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills as well as having a vision for
your facility. One such leader is Susan Hilton, a manager at a private for profit Skilled Nursing and
Rehabilitation Unit.

Susan currently has an Associate s Degree in Nursing (ADN) but is on track to obtain her

Comparison Essay Rough Draft
Nigeria and Afghanistan are two very different Nations, on different continents, with different
languages, but no matter where you are from everyone grew up somewhere, and kids of every
nation grow up the same as everyone else. Growing up in a certain environment can lead to
different personalities and traits, kids with an overly controlled childhood can become ignorant of
the real world, and kids who grow up spoiled don t learn to do things on their own. In both Purple
Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini the main
character, Amir and Kambili respectively, both show great development and change over the course
of the Novels, they both change in their self perception, how they handle themselves and interact
with others, and how they utilize faith.
Over the course of the book each character grew into their own and changing entirely their self

The Federalists No. 10 Analysis
Have you heard of the word factions? Well, if you haven t factions are groups of citizens who

Madison Says The latent causes of faction are thus sown in the nature of man ; meaning if there
were going to be factions they had to be controlled. By removing the causes of factions, the liberty
that is essential to its existence is destroyed. Madison states that Liberty is to faction what air is to

Many dogs are taken to veterinary clinics due to diarrhea. A dog s diarrhea is usually resolved
after a day or two but more serious cases would last longer putting the life of the pet at risk.
Contrary to the general belief, diarrhea is not an illness but a symptom of an underlying medical
concern that is often associated with the dogs gastrointestinal system.
Loose bowel movement of dogs is often associated with the inability of the gastrointestinal system
to function normally but this condition can also indicate infection, food allergies and intestinal
parasites. Dogs have a reputation for being voracious and indiscriminate eaters. Diarrhea would
result if the dog has eaten something that disagrees with its system. Ingestion of foreign objects can

Taxation Of The United States
Tax is an amount of money that a government requires people to pay according to their income, the
value of their property and that is used to pay for the things done by the government. It is a charge
usually of money imposed by authority on persons or property for public purposes. According to
random history website, the history of taxation in the United Statesbegins with the colonial protest
against British taxationpolicy in the 1760s, leading to the American Revolution. The independent
nation collected taxes on imports (tariffs), whiskey, and (for a while) on glass windows. Taxation
started to help pay for Civil War in the U.S in July 1861. In 1913, before the start of WWI the

The Earth s Climate Has Changed Through The Century
It is not surprising that the Earth s climate has changed rapidly through the century. What really
comes as a surprise, however, is that almost everyone acknowledged the notion that climate change
is man made. Why particular phenomenon existed? With innumerable signs given by our planet,
like global sea level and temperature rise and shrinking ice sheets, it is beyond doubt that our
climateis changing. Yet, climate changeauthentically is an action of the nature itself.
Multiple scientific studies stated that the global mean temperature has risen 1 to 2 degrees Celsius
since pre industrial periods and claims the climate warming trends over the past century are
extremely likely due to human activities. As a matter of fact, the Earth had gone

Counseling Theory Critique: The Bondage Breaker by Neil T. Anderson Dealing with the demonic
should be seen as a truth encounter rather than a power encounter (Anderson, 2000, p. 258) this

Another weakness to Anderson s theory is that he negates the reality of some physical ailments
and instead attributes them to demonic forces. While this may be fact in some cases, this theory
is farfetched in my personal opinion. Even Anderson s example of Dee and her bout with MS is
questionable as he notes a few pages after describing her miraculous recovery after completing
his steps that some cases of MS are degenerative and some display symptoms which come and go
such as seemed the case with Dee (Anderson, 2000). This type of theory comes under scrutiny by
people outside of the Christian faith and makes Christians look like quacks since we believe that
some supernatural force, not scientifically proven, is responsible for physical ailments able to be
treated by medicine. While I feel that many components go into diagnosing physical and mental
ailments I am cautious about subscribing to a belief that could do a person more harm than
good. As a skeptic of Anderson s theory I must consider stories I have heard of Christians
refusing medical treatment because of a belief that God would treat their ailment and later
suffering greatly because of this belief. I believe that God is all powerful and has the ability to
cure disease, however, I also believe that God has allowed us to develop modern medicine to treat
very real physical ailments and we should be careful not to negate

A Comparison of Vistor Frankenstein and Henry Jekyll Essay
A Comparison of Vistor Frankenstein and Henry Jekyll
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Robert Louis Stevenson s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are two
horrific tales of science gone terribly wrong. Shelley?s novel eloquently tells the story of a
scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who creates a living monster out of decomposed body parts, while
Stevenson?s novel describes the account of one, Henry Jekyll, who creates a potion to bring out the
pure evil side to himself. Although the two scientists differ in their initial response and action to
their creations, there are strong similarities between their raging curiosity to surpass human
limitation, as well as their lack of responsibility concerning their actions. These similarities raise an

(Stevenson 107). Here, Henry Jekyll displays his awe and wonder of his new discovery. He feels
a sense of power and overwhelming wickedness. From the quotation, it seems appropriate to
conjecture that Dr. Jekyll was enthusiastic about testing out his ?new creation,? as if he were a
child and it a toy.
Here, is another difference between the two doctors. Dr. Frankenstein(after realizing what he has
done) halts all of his experiments and does away with his laboratory anything to get his mind of
his terrible creation. He travels around, always watching his back expecting his creature to be
there. Dr. Frankenstein has many qualities of the classic Byronic hero; a character that shows
romanticized sorrow and pity for himself. ? . . . I am a blasted tree,? he says, ?the bolt has
entered my soul; and I felt then that I should survive to exhibit what I shall soon cease to be a
miserable spectacle of wrecked humanity, pitiable to others and intolerable to myself? (Shelley
153). In this quotation, he shows romanticized self pity and remorse for what he has created.
Victor calls himself a ?miserable spectacle of wrecked humanity.? By this he feels his life is over;
he can no long face the world a decent man.
Dr. Jekyll, on the other hand, like a child, is thrilled with his new discovery and wishes to tamper

U.s. Economic Affairs And Fiscal Policy Essay
1. In America 45 million under poverty line and over 5%unemployment rate, First thing I would
advise to USA President is to Increase the minimum wage rate to atleast 9$ , guaranteed paid
leave to new parents, More free for h1b visas and more taxes for richer. These decisions will have
long term effects on the economy and we can see redistribution of income from richer to poorer in
short time. All this combined with more government expenditure would help the US economy.
2. Fiscal policy is considered any changes the government makes to the national budget in order to
influence a nation s economy. until the Great DepressionThe government tried to stay away from
economic matters as much as possible and hoped that a balanced budget would be maintained. After
the Great Depression , economists decided that something needed to be done about the government
involvement in U.S. economic affairs. The U.S. looked to the influential views of economist John
Maynard Keynes to help fix the crisis the country was in, as well as to prevent it from happening
again. In modern times The United States government has tended to spend more money than it
takes in. Conservatives generally favor monetary policy as a stabilization tool, as they consider
fiscal actions as synonymous with spending on wasteful social programs, budget deficits,
government borrowings, higher interest rates, and the crowding out of useful private investment.

Say Anything, directed by Cameron Crowe is a romantic comedy from the late 1980s. It presents
the development of a highschool relationship between a burnout and the class valedictorian. While
filled with lighthearted humor, the film carries a deeper message when he context of society is
taken into account. Say Anything challenges gender stereotypes, societal standards for young
people, and relationship dynamics.Lloyd is presented externally as an incredibly pedestrian
character in the film. This has the effect of making him rather unique, however, as he is compared

Lifting Weights
English 101
8 May 2014
Lifting
Natural God given talent can only get an athlete so far. At some point they will need to realize
that hard work will take them much further than talent ever could taking them. When an athlete
trains during the off season by lifting weights it helps him or her become physically ready for the
season ahead. Without pre training, showing up on the day of tryouts and hoping to be great and
being able to do well is a horrible idea. A weight lifting program is essential for any athlete to
achieve top performance.
Weight lifting is important for several reasons. First and foremost it prepares an athlete s body to
endure the rigors of the physical sports. Typically athletes will experience an enhanced ability to ...

Lifting weights strengthens bones and tendons. It helps increase muscle volume and muscle
conditioning. It allows an athlete to perform with a higher level of strength and speed. Physically,
athletes whom weight train and are in good condition will also be able to recover faster if and
when an injury occurs. I see this in our setting and it is a proven fact (Asing Interview).
If an athlete sustains an injury, the goal is to strengthen their injured part and also their overall
body. This is why weight trainingis such an important subject for all sports from the court to the
field or even water sports. Even though someone may have surgery on one arm he or she can still
work out on the other arm and it benefits him or her by having a faster and quicker recovery. Lifting
just strengthens those muscles that were injured so it will make them stronger for the next time
they are used. With an injury lifting can help the rehab by strengthening what is needed. For
example, if an athlete tears the anterior cruciate ligament, ACL, then strengthening the muscles
around the knee such as the quadriceps and hamstrings will help the knee stabilize both before and
after surgery, if needed. Lifting despite an injury can also lead to mental strength because athletes
who get injured usually go into some depression because they cannot participate in what they love.
So any little growth in rehab helps build the self esteem of an athlete because

companionship, love and acceptance in her novel Frankenstein. The themes that are explored in
Frankenstein are relevant to today s modern world. Shelley challenges readers by endorsing and
confronting attitudes and values in her text through the events, circumstances and outcomes that
take place in the novel, thus causing the reader to reflect upon their own lives and in turn the

One of the main themes in Frankenstein is appearance and acceptance. In today s society and
the society in which Frankenstein is set, people often judge one another solely based on
appearance. Social prejudice is often based on looks. Be it the colour of one s skin, the clothes
they wear, facial features or even ones body expressions. People make snap judgements based on
what the eye beholds. Today s schools are a prime example of this as people are classified
instantly and almost unknowingly. There s a lot of hate around here, Gentry Robler, 16, a
sophomore at Santana High. He reels off the high school cliques: the gothics, the freaks, the
dorks, the jocks, the Mexican gangsters, the white supremacists. Time March 2001 pg. 24 This
example of the significance of appearance in modern society is also echoed in Frankenstein. The
parallel between the society in the novel and modern society is that of snap judgements based
solely on appearances. In the novel, Victor Frankenstein is a perpetrator of such judgements.
Victor selected his features as beautiful. Here it is seen Victor s shallowness as he picked the most
perfect body parts and beauteous features, all to be pieced together in great anticipation. However
as one can see, the result is horrific and due to the hideousness of the wretch that he has created, he
abandons him. This same shallowness of judgement due to appearance again surfaces when Victor

the body. The liver also has an excretory role, as it removes the yellowish bile pigment formed by
the brake down of RBCs and puts them into the bile for elimination from the body. The hepatic
ducts drain the bile out of the liver and form the common bile duct that drains the bile into the
duodenum.
The gallbladder is a sac attached to the undersurface of the liver. It has a folded interior and
functions to concentrate and store the bile produced by the liver. When there is no chyme in the
duodenum the sphincter muscles within the duodenum remain closed and the bile back up the
common bile duct into the cystic duct that leads into the gallbladder. The gallbladder concentrates
the bile by re absorbing water from the bile back into the blood. The bile contains the bile salts that

The Effects of Fire and Flooding
To Tree Islands in the Florida Everglades
The topic of this research paper will be the tree island communities in the Florida Everglades and
the different conditions that affect them. While conducting preliminary research on the topic, my
hypothesis is that the effect of flooding shortly after a fire will have a positive effect on the tree
islands. I believe that the flooding will bring in other resources that have been carried with the
current and provide the community with enough resources for healthy growth following the fire. I
believe the communities could benefit from have a source of water, instead of having more
droughts after the fire.
In the Everglades these patches of trees or islands of them are an essential piece of the landscape.
These islands of trees are seen in both the short and the long hydro period wetland of the
Everglades. What these islands start to do is provide a web of shade and they gives opportunity
for these forest dwelling plants and animals to perform important biodiversity and nutrient
cycling functions (Gained et al. 2002, Ross 2009). Tree islands can be all different sizes, in the
short hydro period area these sizes can vary from anything of two to three trees to as big as
several hectares with hundreds of trees. The size of these tree islands have a direct effect on the
amount of species there are, the larger the tree island the more chance there is to have more

the long lasting success of his cartel. Pablo would constantly promote his Robinhood image to the
poor with generous donations and civic projects such as building youth sports complexes and
housing for the poor. These projects gave him massive popularity among the population and the
people of Medellin would return the favor by serving as look out for him and helping him evade
the police.
Eventually Pablo Escobar s luck ran out. He was tracked down and surrounded by the
Colombian police. The police offered him optimal prison condition if decides to surrender and
Pablo eventually took this deal not long after it was presented. Pison basically became a
luxurious resort for Pablo, it include a jacuzzi, waterfall, football field, and multiple TVs. He also
maintained contact with his cartel and after weeks of delicate planning he escaped prison and he
will live the rest of his life on the run.

they tracked him to a middle class barrio in Los Olivos. Pablo was alerted by a civilian look out

The Landlady
Roald Dahl is truly a master of suspense, using cyanide and psychic abilities to his advantage,
weaving suspense and spine chilling thrill into every page. His short story, The Landlady , is a
perfect example of his masterful works. Cyanide poisoning is one of the many elements of
suspense that Dahl uses to forge the element of suspense, leaving readers yearning for more.
Cyanide poisoning is a type of poisoning that develops during vulnerability to the poison cyanide.
Cyanide itself is a chemical compound consisting of one carbon atom that is triple bonded to a
nitrogen atom. Exposure to this chemical poison can result in headache, dizziness, fast heart rate,
shortness of breath, and vomiting. ( Cyanide Poisoning ). If a person is to be... Show more content

Otherwise, these two plot aspects entwine perfectly, creating a finely knitted blanket of suspense
to drape over one s mind. The fear of the unknown is a psychological mindset present in all
people that causes them to grow weary in situations they are unfamiliar with. As stated in the
article List of Psychic Abilities, Many of these abilities are also known as extrasensory
perception or sixth sense. . The specific sixth senses honed in on regarding The Landlady are
precognition, or the ability to perceive an action not yet executed, and telepathy, the ability to
create a thought in one s mind that they will sometimes execute. The fear of the unknown is quite
the opposite of precognition, as it occurs when one does not know what will happen next. Much
like the unfamiliar situation regarding Billy Weaver in Dahl s The Landlady , the occurrence of
the fear of the unknown happens in similar situations of uncertainty. Every time an individual
encounters an unfamiliar situation, the fear manifests itself, and prevents an individual from
taking the right decisions in life. (Perry). During The Landlady , Billy Weaver is presented with a
predicament in which he must decide where to stay for the night. The bed and breakfast in which
he chose was unfamiliar to him, so he decided not to reside there. However, since The Landlady
had already used her precognition to know when Billy

Executive Summary:
Objective:
The objective of our senior project is to develop portable lab equipment and software interface for
first year college students. The idea of our project is to allow portability and convenience for
students to perform basic electronic labs at home. It is meant as a learning tool to generate a
comprehensive, hands on guide for students to use on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Future Expansion:
This project could also include a multimeter and curve tracer. It could also be improved by having
a higher voltage and a better regulated power supply. The function generator could also have higher
bandwidth and frequency.
Cost:
Estimated total cost is $316. Introduction:
When we visualized our senior project, we decided that engineering and electronic students in
college could make use of portable, inexpensive, simple equipment in order to demonstrate concepts
off campus. This equipment would not necessarily have all of the functionality and versatility of
the lab equipment, but it would be useful in demonstrating concepts. The current lab equipment is
great for school, but if students have a need to use the equipment at home such as to finish labs,
learn more, or just hobby use, they are left without an inexpensive alternative with the equipment
currently on the market. Our solution was to address these issues with our project which we
named Lab In A Box. This would allow students to have a portable oscilloscope, power supply, and
function generator at a greatly reduced cost. The labs performed usually only requires low
bandwidth and low voltage equipment. The power supplies in the labs are DC with the capability
of +6V and В±25V. The function generator is a 15MHz waveform generator that is capable of sine,
square, triangle, and saw tooth waveforms. The

Why Should Catch 22 Be Banned
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, a book with a purpose to provide comic relief to the hearts of many
After the horrors of the Korean War. Catch 22 is a book set during World War II and shows an
American B 52 bombardier named Yossarian and displays his experiences at a U.S. Air Force
base in the small island of Pianosa west of Italy. Catch 22 is renowned by many who have
enjoyed the book s realism and use of satire, but some beg to differ and often criticize the book
over the excessive use of profanity. In some cases the book has been outright banned such as the
case in Strongsville, Ohio where the school district banned the book from school libraries due to
the use of profanity and racial slurs repeated often throughout the book. Many schools across...

Since the 1st amendment guarantees the right to freedom of the press among other things books
are protected under said right as decided by Lamont v. Postmaster General (1965), a book can not
be banned from schools because a school is an extension of the government, and if a school were to
ban a book because of language, violence, etc. the government would essentially be suppressing the
1st amendment. A quote from the American Library Association website from a court case which
involved Strongsville school board attempting to ban Catch 22 from the school district is as
follows, The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled against the School Board, upholding
the students First Amendment right to receive information and the librarian s right to disseminate
it. The removal of books from a school library is a much more serious burden upon the freedom of
classroom discussion than the action found unconstitutional in Tinker v. Des Moines School
District (Notable 1st Amendment Court Cases). The 1st amendment protects the rights of the book
to remain inside of schools because if Catch 22 was banned that school would be suppressing the 1st
amendment right therefore breaking the constitution. The 1st amendment protects a person s right
to freedom of speech, religion, etc., but also provides rights to that of

Expectations Of Characters In Shakespeare s The Scarlet...
Doodle was just about the craziest brother a boy ever had. Page 1 paragraph 2 Doodle was an
ordinary boy with something special that not everybody had a heart condition. It prevented him
from doing most things an average boy could. Doodle and his brother would spend most of their
time at Old Woman Swamp or outdoors. They are always together in some way. The author of The
Scarlet Ibisuses foreshadowing, similes, and imagery to show that others expectations of one can
impact themselves and take a toll on their life. The first main character in the story is Doodle, also
known as William Armstrong. When he was born, no one had faith in him of surviving, except his

The major conflicts in the story are man vs. man, man vs. self, man vs. society. First, man vs.
man because Doodle has conflicts with not living up to what Brother wants. Although Brother
develops a bond with Doodle, his love and greed pushed Doodle to learn how to walk and doing
more than what Doodle can. Doodle has already gone too far by learning how to walk, while the
doctor says to be careful. On page 3, according to the doctor, the instructions are, ... he mustn t
get too excited, too hot, too cold, or too tired... must be treated gently. Disobeying these
instructions can come with consequences. The doctor then goes on saying some movements
could strain his weak heart and possibly kill him. Secondly, man vs. self. When Brother first
proposed the idea of Doodle walking, Page 4 Doodle responds with, I can t walk,
Brother,...Mama, the doctor everybody, He doesn t have a desire to learn how to walk because he

is what caused Brother to help Doodle. According to the narrator, he was embarrassed, Page 4
paragraph 4, When Doodle was five years old, I was embarrassed at having a brother ... couldn t

author uses similes to show, others expectations of one can impact themselves. The narrator

Olmec Vs Teotihuacan Culture Analysis
A common element found within the cultures of Mesoamerica was the way they expressed
themselves, primarily in oral modes of expression... and mute texts (Carrasco, 47). This was

Mesoamerica and the Teotihuacan culture was from contemporary Mesoamericathere were
noticeable similarities and differences between the two cultures. Evidence of influence and
continuity was found linking the Olmecand Teotihuacan culture. The Olmec and the Teotihuacan

cosmogonies. Richard Diehli author of The Olmecs: America s first civilization, explains the

symbols associated with birth, origins, and celestial realms. In Teotihuacan we see caves, pyramids,
and mountains all of which have a kind of god or goddess illustrating birth and origins. Another
similarity found between the Olmec and Teotihuacan were the rituals although each had a distinct
form of religion there were noticeable rituals that were common between the two. Two common
rituals found between the two were sacrifices and bloodletting. Reilly explains that blood was a

The Purpose of the Federal Reserve System Essay
Over the past few years we have realized the impact that the Federal Government has on our
economy, yet we never knew enough about the subject to understand why. While taking this
Economics course it has brought so many things to our attention, especially since we see inflation,
gas prices, unemployment and interest rates on the rise. It has given us a better understanding of
the effect of the Government on the economy, the stock market, the interest rates, etc. Since the
Federal Government has such a control over our Economy, we decided to tackle the subject of the
Federal Reserve Systemand try to get a better understanding of the history, the structure, and the
monetary policyof the power that it holds.
The Federal Reserve System ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One form of direct control can be exercised by adjusting the legal reserve ratio (the proportion of
its deposits that a member bank must hold in its reserve account), and as a result, increasing or
decreasing the amount of new loans that the commercial banks can make. Because loans give
rise to new deposits, the possible money supply is, in this way, expanded or reduced. This policy
tool has not been used too much in recent years. The money supply may also be influenced
through manipulation of the discount rate, which is the rate if interest charged by the Federal
Reserve banks on short term secured loans to member banks. Since these loans are typically
sought to maintain reserves at their required level, an increase in the cost of such loans has an
effect similar to that of increasing the reserve requirement. The classic method of indirect control
is through open market operations, first widely used in the 1920s and now used daily to make
some adjustment to the market. Federal Reserve bank sales or purchases of securities on the open
market tend to reduce or increase the size of commercial bank reserves. When the Federal Reserve
sells securities, the purchasers pay for them with checks drawn on their deposits, thereby reducing
the reserves of the banks on which the checks are drawn. The three instruments of control explained
above have been conceded to be more effective in preventing inflation in times of high economic
activity than in bringing about revival from a

How To Survive Native American Life
Several hundred years ago, Native Americans had to survive in the New World without the
creature comforts we have today. The winters in prehistoric Ohio are historic for being harsh.
This shows that the Native Americans knew exactly how to survive the winter without the
abundant resources in today s society. The three things I would focus on if I had to survive a
winter in prehistoric Ohio is shelter, food and water, and forming a culture with the other people
around me. The first thing I would focus on if I had to survive a winter in prehistoric Ohio is
shelter. I would first search for a suitable cave to live in. It would be easier than building a house
from scratch. It provides natural geothermal heating, plus I would not have to worry about repairs
or my shelter breaking down. Obviously, the geothermal heat would not be enough during the
winter, so I would have to make a fire pit within my cave for not only heat but lighting too. And,
since I am in a cave I do not have to worry about burning down my shelter as well. The one thing I

After I can sustain myself, I can then go find other people and form a culture. This can be done
by first trading with the other natives and then helping each other. We could help each other by

is formed between myself and other people we can live together and form a culture that can
sustain no only the winter but several winters in a row. The three things I would focus on if I
had to survive a winter in prehistoric Ohio is shelter, food and water, and forming a culture with
the other people around me. I believe if I could live in a cave, be able to grow and store crops,
hunt and fish efficiently, and eventually form a culture with others around me, I could survive a

The National Defense Education Act
In America, the state of education has always been a pressing concern, perhaps now more than ever.
Improving education has been proven to strengthen the nation time and time again, specifically with
regard to science, mathematics and technology. Ten years after the start of the Cold War on October
4, 1957, the Soviet Unionlaunched the first ever man made satellite, Sputnik 1. This action by the
Soviets caused immediate concern for the educational system in the United Statesbecause this
launch proved that the Soviet Union had superior technological capabilities (SOURCE 1). America
s first action was to improve education, and this was done through the National Defense Education
Act, which provided large amounts of funding to American schools, and supported American
students who showed particular skill in math, sciences or foreign languages (SOURCE 2). During
the Cold War, supporting education was used to support the nation as a whole. Today the United
States faces a similar problem, mainly due to the declining focus on science and math in schools.
Students have been losing interest in these subjects, and as a result, America has been falling
behind in the global education ranks. This decline has been hurting America s ability to continue to
be a successful global competitor. Now the government is working to reverse this trend by
supporting STEM programs. STEM is an acronym for the academics concentrations of Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The purpose of

Characteristics Of Sundiata Epic
The Sundiata Epic narrates the story of the titular hero who founded the Mali Empire. It is an
epic poem traditionally spoken aloud, with D.T. Niane publishing a written version in French in
1960, and a version in English following in 1965. The epic tells the story of how Sundiata
became the father of Mali and gave the world peace. Though Sundiata s bravery and generosity
must be acknowledged, the fact that we still remember him today owes just as much if not more
to the griots who tell his story, as well as the importance the epic places on recognizing diverse
contributions. The role of the griot is inextricably bound up with both the Sundiata Epic itself,
and the epic s long survival. Balla FassГ©kГ©, Sundiata s griot, is loyal to Sundiata all his life,
despite their forced separation, and gives Sundiata the knowledge and encouragement he needs to
defeat Soumaoro KantГ©. As Balla says to Sundiata, I am the word and you are the deed... Balla
later goes on to say, But words are nothing but words; power lies in deeds. Though Balla appears
to downplay his role here, it would have been much harder for Sundiata to fulfill his destiny without
his faithful griot. The relationship between griots and kings thus appears to be a mutually beneficial
one, with the griots keeping the memory of the kings alive, while the kings and their deeds give the
griots continued relevance. Djeli Mamoudou KouyatГ©, the griot who narrated the epic to D.T.
Niane, says, [W]ithout us the names of

What Makes A Good President
In order to have a successful and radiant country, we need to have a president that the United
States people will adore. The president is someone who makes all the important decision topics
like school funds, the military, and decide whether laws get put into motion. There are already
certain requirements that a president must be before becoming a candidate, for example, a
president must be at least thirty five years old and have been born in the US. I would want the
president of the United Statesto be a loyal, honest, and fair person to ever member of our country
whether they are lower, middle, or higher class.
One very important trait for the president is bravery. A brave president will be willing to fight for
our country when we are under attack from an enemy. If a country declares war on the US then
our president should be intelligent, brave, and have the right mind set on how to defeat the enemy.
A president will have countless times of disapproval from residents of our country; however, he/she
must be brave enough to stand tall about their idea that they feel is best for us and our future. ...

102 Minutes that Change America
102 Minutes that Change America
A moment may change everything to evil or good in our life and community.
Some events occurred may have affects in several ways. September 11, 2001 was a historic day in
the United States. Four airplanes were hijacked by terrorists. The first one crashed into the
Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The second plane was stopped by passengers. The two of them
crashed the biggest towers in the U.S which are the World Trade Centerin New York. On that day
3,000 people died. These occasions changed American s economy, American culture and the
relationship with other countries.
First, the economy in the United State was affected after 9/11 especially New York and Virginia.

travelers. They were using dogs and hand searches to inspect travelers. Also, I sat for almost 6
hours to pass the immigration line. They were asking me questions about the reasons for why I
came to the United States. However, I did not speak English, so, I asked them if they had a
translator or my husband may help me to answer questions but they did not accept that.
Third, after the September 11 attack, the relationship has undergone some profound changes
between America and other countries especially with Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Political people in Saudi Arabia did not accept what happened in the United States and other
countries have been exposed to violence. In addition, people a treatment became very rude with
Muslims because they thought Muslims are agree with American s situation. For example, my
uncle came with his family in 2003; they faced a lot of problems with American people. Also,
while his wife was wearing Islamic dress, she got a lot of harassments from citizens. So, they
could not stay more than one week then they decided to travel to Canada to complete their
vacation. In my experience, sometimes old people called terrorist because I wearing Islamic
costume. However, after 911 Muslim people did many important things for American people. Also,

You just won a contest! You are very happy and can not wait to share your joy. You are living
what Frederick Law Olmsted engaged in. He had to take part in a designing contest to win the
right to build New York a park, soon to be known as, Central Park. Frederick Law Olmsted was
an impactful and accomplished landscape architect. He showed the world about his works, and
made fantasies of green grass and luscious trees come to a reality. He always made sure that
everything went smoothingly. Frederick s most famous quote was, This is just what I have thought
when I have seen slaves at work they seem to go through the motions of labor without putting
strength into them. They keep their powers in reserve for their own use at night, perhaps. (Frederick

One piece of evidence that shows Olmsted was an accomplished landscape architect is because
Olmsted was good at what he did, as says in the above paragraph. He wins landscaping design
competitions because he is successful and knows what to do and because he and everyone knew
he was a professional. As says Algis Valiunas, Frederick Law Olmsted the grandmaster of
American landscape architecture, felt all the pains of city living and made it his vocation to
relieve them as much as possible (Valiunas). Now, we have a whole new ideaof his architecture, he
feels pains. He felt it was his vocation, to make the city more, livable. It was his calling to make
every place more livable, his eyes saw the sadness, busy streets, yelling from lane to lane.
Olmsted saw the not so peacefulness of the city life. Compare streets of cars and gas, to green
grass and blue skies. This was his tool to change the world, one park at a time. Furthermore,
Olmsted went on to create many beautiful public parks throughout the U.S. and Canada (Phelan).
Soon on, he became unstoppable. He took on honorary jobs and was the first at many things. In
continuation, He lobbied successfully to make Yosemite a national park, ran Commissioned during
the Civil War, cofounded the Nation, and created the first planned suburban community in
America (Fredericksen). However, when time came close. People may not be able to recognize
this name, whether you can, or not, Olmsted was accomplished. For example, Although his name
may not be familiar to youngsters, many of them live in cities have been made more livable by his
work (Phelan). He accomplished cities more livable according to

How Does Political Socialization Affect My Interest In...
I have not had much interest in politics until recently. Before last year, I did not care for
anything related to politics; I thought that it was all boring and had little to no affect on me on
a personal level. I am more interested in politics nowadays. I know better now that it does affect
me and I should care about it. I had learned about the concepts of political socialization, party
identification, political tolerance, political trust, political efficacy in government class and how
they affect my political beliefs. My personal political belief has been shaped into what it is today
and is still being shaped because of those six concepts. Political socialization is the ongoing

According to the political surveys that we took in government class, I am a strong liberal. I
have always been against conservative views for as long as I can remember; my family,
especially my very conservative cousin that mentioned earlier, did not like that I did not conform
to certain roles and scolded me for it, thus, resulting in my resentment of conservatives and
conservative views. As I grew older, I noticed that I had unconsciously leaned more towards

  • 2. FrankensteinВґs Frankenstein And Mary Shelley s Frankenstein There is something at work in my soul, which I do not understand. 1 Mary Shelley Frankenstein, a novel written by Mary Shelley, was published in 1818, a first of its kind. The novel is considered to be the first depiction of science fiction, with infused elements of the Gothic novel and romantic movement. 2 Today this masterpiece largely influences literature studies and popular culture, especially in the aspect of film creation. Various adaptations of Mary Shelley s Frankensteinhas been created, but the only motion picture that remains close to the novel is Kenneth Branagh s Mary Shelley s Frankenstein (1994). The novel and film have made many details conspicuous for comparison and contrast; details that related to the beginning, the monster s creation, and Elizabeth s death and rebirth. The novel and film have alike beginnings, yet there are features changed by Kenneth Branagh. Mary Shelley s novel specifically started off with a letter written by Walton. The author chose letters from another character to start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kenneth Branagh follows through with creating the same setting as Mary Shelley did in the beginning of her novel, yet leaves out details about the family s history and the death of Frankenstein s mother. Similarly, the novel portrayed that Frankenstein did his own work, whereas the film displays that his work was a continuation of Professor Waldman s. Related to the same scene, Mary Shelley spoke little about Frankenstein s physical experimentation and how it was done, where in contrast it was the main focus of the film. One point of clear difference is the ending. Even though Elizabeth dies in both the novel and the film, Kenneth Branagh takes Elizabeth s character further. He does this by allowing her to be reborn through Frankenstein s experimentation and by then killing her off as she sets herself on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Poison Ivy Monologue Poison Ivy May 15, 2012 at 10:17pm Poison Ivy by Sydney J. Tanner When I was 19, I was attending Utah State University, in Logan Utah. I lived in a beautiful canyon in the mountains and went hiking and camping a lot. One camping trip, being a bit naive and inexperienced I wiped with the nearest green leaf I could find. What followed was an excruciating lesson never to be forgotten. Not being from Utah, I had never seen or been around poison ivy before. Later that fall, I was on a committee decorating for an autumn formal dance. I gathered interesting and colorful vines and weeds to make thirteen large wreaths for the walls. After I hung the last wreath for the dance that evening, I realized something dreadful. Gee, poison ivy changes color in the fall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Berries white, run in fright. The old adage still stands. As a Wisconsin Master Gardener, I share my embarrassing story with you for a reason. Some people still don t know what poison ivy looks like. When I tell this story, I get to hear other people s awkward tales of adventure in the ivy. They range from honeymoon disasters, to children playing tag in it, to beloved pets rolling in it and then jumping into bed with their masters that evening. Poison Ivy (Taxicodendron radicans, also called Rhus radicans) is a member of the Anacardiaceae family (Sumac/Cashew) and is a native woody plant in Wisconsin. It is considered a noxious weed. It spreads both vegetatively and sexually. The seeds are spread by animal feces. The plant also sends out underground rhizomes, from which dense patches of green spring up. It flowers in late spring to early summer. The yellow white flowers are clusters of five sepals and five petals tiny florets on a stalk, or petiole. The greenish white to all white, lined fruit forms midsummer to mid autumn and is technically called a drupe. Most people call it a berry. They grow to be about 6 mm wide and stand upright on the stem, instead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Community Mental Health Centers Act Of 1963 Closed... Many years ago, mental illness was viewed as a demonic possession or a religious punishment. In the 18th century, the attitudes towards mental illness were negative and persistent. This negativity leads to the stigmatization and confinement of those who were mentally ill. The mentally ill were sent to mental hospitals that were unhealthy and dangerous. A push in the mid 1950s for deinstitutionalization began because of activists lobbying for change. Dorothea Dix was one of these activists that helped push for change. The change called for more community oriented care rather than asylum based care. The Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963 closed state psychiatric hospitals throughout the United States. Only individuals who posed an imminent danger to themselves or someone else could be committed to state psychiatric hospitals (A Brief History of Mental Illness and the U.S. Mental Health Care System). Deinstitutionalization meant to improve quality of life and treatment for those who are mentally ill. This would hopefully result in the mentally ill receiving treatment so they could live more independently. The hope was that community mental health programs would provide this treatment but sadly there was not sufficient or ongoing funding to meet the growing demand for these programs. Budgets for mental hospitals were reduced but there was no increase for the community based programs. Many mentally ill individuals have been moved to nursing homes or other residential ... • 6. How Carbon Dioxide Affect The Levels Of The Ocean How does Carbon Dioxide affect the pH levels of the ocean? Carbon Dioxide or CO2 for short is one of the most important gases in our atmosphere. Even though it is not abundant as Nitrogen and Oxygen which is a key part of life on earth; carbon dioxide also shares the same job as them. Carbon dioxide is vital to life on earth and plays an important role to plants during photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis plants couldn t make oxygen and without oxygen humans wouldn t be able to survive. CO2 also is important to the atmosphere. Carbon dioxideis an important greenhouse gas that helps to trap heat in our atmosphere. Without it, our planet would be inhospitably cold. Carbon Dioxide might be important to us, but it can also be very deadly if there is too much In the atmosphere and in the ocean. Over the years Carbon Dioxide has been significantly increasing from human activity. CO2 has a concentration of about 400 ppmv (parts per million volume). Its concentration in the atmosphere was about 280 ppmv before the Industrial Revolution, now it has increased immensely to about 380 ppmv in 2006. Many have said Carbon Dioxide has been the main reason or cause of global warming; saying that if we produce too much of this greenhouse gas it can create a global climate change. The famous physician and Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, wrote volumes around the third century BC that focused on his understanding of fractures, acute diseases, and injuries to the joints. Wrestling was the most popular sport of this time and the most common source for sports injuries. • 8. The Danger Of A Single Story Analysis Popular culture is often a reflection of society; both literature and the media have the capacity to cement ideas in the minds of readers and viewers. In many cases, the notions and stories glorified by the media refrain from sharing a true depiction of society and are narrow minded in their focus. Recently, the feminist movement has denounced popularculturefor its ignorance, fighting for a more realistic portrait to be painted by those with the power to reach millions. Specifically, both Roxane Gay s Bad Feminist and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie s The Danger of a Single Story share how the classic gender stereotypes seen in popular cultureare unable to capture the full spectrum of stories that define society, and are limiting in their portrayals of women. Moreover, both authors share personal stories, reference prominent world figures, and cite relevant statistics in their works. Therefore, in both Bad Feminist and The Danger of a Single Story , Roxane Gay and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie appeal to readers pathos, logos, and ethos in order to construct the argument that the single story of women in popular culture is stereotypical and restrictive. Within her collection of essays, Roxane Gay uses personal anecdotes that appeal to reader s pathos, constructing her argument that women are misrepresented and generalized in popular culture by providing an emotional tether upon which readers can latch on. For example, Gay writes of her experiences as a struggling adolescent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Theme Of Mary Lennox s The Secret Garden Keys can be a dangerous thing to have in possession. They can unlock doors that may remind people of darker times, or they could open the way to opportunity. Everything in the world has a key , both literally and figuratively. As Mary Lennox said, I found the key! It s like magic! But not only did she find the key to the secret garden, she found the key to end her feelings of abandonment, loss, and neglect. The theme of The Secret Garden is isolation and abandonment. Even before Mary Lennox even arrives at her new home, she finds herself resenting it. But what else could she do? The young girl had never experienced love or excitement. Medlock, trying to pass time, asks her if she has a favorite story. With her arms folded across her chest, and her face scrunched to show wrinkles, Mary retorts to the Medlock, My mother didn t have the time to tell me stories. The Medlock, she is surprised, but simply shakes her head and remains silent for the rest of the journey. Mary had come from India, where she lived with her neglectful parents. Mary is so emotionally damaged that she said I was angry. I never cried. I didn t know how to cry. When her parents died, rumors spread that she did not show remorse. At the manor, Mary quickly gives herself the reputation of being a spoiled girl, as shown when she commanded Martha to dress her, and then called her unitellegent when Martha was trying to make a joke about Mary s wardrobe colors, which happened to be black. Mary is upset, but Martha ends up introducing her to Dickon, who becomes her first friend. Mary goes outside and finds a garden, and an old man. He asks her why she is here, and she replies and says, Where s the door? Mary wants to find the key to the garden, as she is intrigued by it. The old man tells her that, No one s been inside that place for ten years, referencing to the fact that Archibald Craven(Mary s uncle) closed the garden when his son Colin was born and his wife died. The garden was his wife s favorite, and they say she died by falling off a swing in the garden. Mary meets Dickon, and they instantly become friends. Mary wasted no time inviting him into the garden. • 10. Difference Between Sex and Gender Amongst the many popular misconceptions in today s society, the in depth differences between sex and gender has grown to be one that is discussed extensively by psychologists and sociologists too. Sex in itself is a more scientific term that explains the innate physical attributes of an individual. On the other hand gendercarries a more social tone. Meaning, that it refers to the different clothing, activities, career choices, and positions people hold in society. This essay aims to highlight some of the key differential aspects between these two concepts; while the term sexhas been well defined over the years, we learn how the topic of gender managed to rake up an in depth study as well as gain its own significance in society. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People begin to act in ways that are consistent to their self conception which is considered gratifying. For example a boy may have the following ideological mind set, I am a boy, therefore I want to do boy things, therefore the opportunity to do boy things (and to gain approval for doing them) is rewarding (Kohlberg, 1966, p. 89). To conclude, sex is the biological factor that differentiates females from males and gender on the other hand is defined by what society considers right and inculcates in males and females that encouraging masculinity or femininity. We can support the fact how gender has gained prominence in the world today through facts such as how gender division of labor in the past was the norm and how it is more of a misconception in certain cultures now. Gender does have a biological approach as well; scientists have researched extensively how the formation of chromosomes and furthermore different sex hormones has an effect on masculine and feminine behavioral characteristics. Along with that, cognitive development which theorizes self conceptualization to be gratifying and determinant for males and females is also another facet of gender development in the world today and simply justifies how gender has extended its presence amongst us. • 11. The Role Of Violence In The White Tiger By Aravind Adiga It cannot fairly be said that in Aravind Adiga s novel, The White Tiger, the only way to escape the Darkness and advance in society is through violence, as an alternative route to the Light is presented in the story arc of Vijay, the pig herder s son turned politician. Balram asserts that the murder of Ashok is not only the direct cause of his new wealth and status, but also the only possible trigger for his newfound social mobility. Yet, this is contradicted earlier in the story when he presents Vijay, the bus driver, as his role model for a successful person. Vijay, in order to achieve his elevated position, resorted to prostitution; despite not being a desirable alternative to violence, it is an alternative all the same and therefore violence is not the only way to escape the Darkness. Following this logic, it is Balram s story and the immediate increase in wealth that results from the murder of Ashok that best supports violence as the only means of moving into the Light, and Vijay s story is the best evidence against that point of view. Although Balram argues that violence is his only way of overcoming the poverty he is born into, Vijay, a manborn into status even lower than Balram s, achieves power and wealth without resorting to violence. Initially Balram presents Vijay as his role model, condoning the rumors of his prostitution in order to advance socially. He portrays Vijay as the first entrepreneur [he] knew of and a man who had made it in life (26), thereby ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My First Twenty Years Of One s Life The first twenty years of one s life not only holds the most dramatic physical changes, but also extensive changes in the social/emotional and the cognitive stages. Throughout my first twenty years, I have reached the majority of my physical attributes for adulthood. I have gone from a babbling infant to a well educated undergraduate student at a pristine univeristy. I have overcome evolving life circumstances, and I have, in other words, grew up. I plan to use my life experiences along with Laura E. Berk s psychological research to explain how I have learned to grow and adapt physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. As history progresses, the evolution of physical changes to the human body seems to move right along with it. According to Berk s studies, the secular trends in physical growth over the past 150 years have led to taller and heavier children in industrialized nations (p 413). Personally, my growth was lower than these new trends. I was average height, but I have stayed below weight even as I am maturing. In the prior family generations before me, many males experienced their growth spurt up into the twenties, so there is the slim chance that the usual teenage spurts didn t hit me because they tend to fall late in my gene pool. However, I was pretty normal among the physical stages of growth as a toddler. I was standing alone and walking alone at eleven months (p 184). Even though this is the average age for most growing children, I was always a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This led to Hamilton coming to New York at the age of seventeen (1772) to earn an education at Kings University, which is now Columbia University. During his college career, Hamilton caught an interest in American politics, specifically, the American Patriots. Eventually, he became a huge supporter of the patriots revolutionary movement against pro British loyalists. This type of theory comes under scrutiny by people outside of the Christian faith and makes Christians look like quacks since we believe that some supernatural force, not scientifically proven, is responsible for physical ailments able to be treated by medicine. While I feel that many components go into diagnosing physical and mental ailments I am cautious about subscribing to a belief that could do a person more harm than good. Lifting just strengthens those muscles that were injured so it will make them stronger for the next time they are used. With an injury lifting can help the rehab by strengthening what is needed. For example, if an athlete tears the anterior cruciate ligament, ACL, then strengthening the muscles around the knee such as the quadriceps and hamstrings will help the knee stabilize both before and after surgery, if needed. Lifting despite an injury can also lead to mental strength because athletes who get injured usually go into some depression because they cannot participate in what they love. So any little growth in rehab helps build the self esteem of an athlete because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The themes that are explored in Frankenstein are relevant to today s modern world. Shelley challenges readers by endorsing and confronting attitudes and values in her text through the events, circumstances and outcomes that take place in the novel, thus causing the reader to reflect upon their own lives and in turn the society around them. Shelley raises in her text an issue that is on the forefront of discussion in the modern world, that of man taking the place of God and the role of woman in the creation of life. In today s society and the society in which Frankenstein is set, people often judge one another solely based on appearance. Social prejudice is often based on looks. Be it the colour of one s skin, the clothes they wear, facial features or even ones body expressions. People make snap judgements based on what the eye beholds. Today s schools are a prime example of this as people are classified instantly and almost unknowingly. There s a lot of hate around here, Gentry Robler, 16, a sophomore at Santana High. He reels off the high school cliques: the gothics, the freaks, the dorks, the jocks, the Mexican gangsters, the white supremacists. Time March 2001 pg. 24 This example of the significance of appearance in modern society is also echoed in Frankenstein. The parallel between the society in the novel and modern society is that of snap judgements based solely on appearances. In the novel, Victor Frankenstein is a perpetrator of such judgements. Victor selected his features as beautiful. Here it is seen Victor s shallowness as he picked the most perfect body parts and beauteous features, all to be pieced together in great anticipation. However as one can see, the result is horrific and due to the hideousness of the wretch that he has created, he abandons him. • 37. Discuss The Role Of Enzymes In Chemical Digestion the body. The liver also has an excretory role, as it removes the yellowish bile pigment formed by the brake down of RBCs and puts them into the bile for elimination from the body. The hepatic ducts drain the bile out of the liver and form the common bile duct that drains the bile into the duodenum. The gallbladder is a sac attached to the undersurface of the liver. It has a folded interior and functions to concentrate and store the bile produced by the liver. When there is no chyme in the duodenum the sphincter muscles within the duodenum remain closed and the bile back up the common bile duct into the cystic duct that leads into the gallbladder. The gallbladder concentrates the bile by re absorbing water from the bile back into the blood. The bile contains the bile salts that emulsify the fats in the chime. It also contains cholesterol tat can be eliminated from the body. The cholecystokinin is a hormone secreted from the intestinal mucosa and is triggered by fat in the chime. The Effects Of Fire And Flooding On The Florida Everglades Kristofer Mueller South Florida Landscapes The Effects of Fire and Flooding To Tree Islands in the Florida Everglades The topic of this research paper will be the tree island communities in the Florida Everglades and the different conditions that affect them. While conducting preliminary research on the topic, my hypothesis is that the effect of flooding shortly after a fire will have a positive effect on the tree islands. I believe that the flooding will bring in other resources that have been carried with the current and provide the community with enough resources for healthy growth following the fire. I believe the communities could benefit from have a source of water, instead of having more droughts after the fire. In the Everglades these patches of trees or islands of them are an essential piece of the landscape. These islands of trees are seen in both the short and the long hydro period wetland of the Everglades. What these islands start to do is provide a web of shade and they gives opportunity for these forest dwelling plants and animals to perform important biodiversity and nutrient cycling functions (Gained et al. 2002, Ross 2009). Tree islands can be all different sizes, in the short hydro period area these sizes can vary from anything of two to three trees to as big as several hectares with hundreds of trees. This equipment would not necessarily have all of the functionality and versatility of the lab equipment, but it would be useful in demonstrating concepts. The current lab equipment is great for school, but if students have a need to use the equipment at home such as to finish labs, learn more, or just hobby use, they are left without an inexpensive alternative with the equipment currently on the market. Our solution was to address these issues with our project which we named Lab In A Box. This would allow students to have a portable oscilloscope, power supply, and function generator at a greatly reduced cost. The labs performed usually only requires low bandwidth and low voltage equipment. The power supplies in the labs are DC with the capability of +6V and В±25V. The Federal Reserve System ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One form of direct control can be exercised by adjusting the legal reserve ratio (the proportion of its deposits that a member bank must hold in its reserve account), and as a result, increasing or decreasing the amount of new loans that the commercial banks can make. Because loans give rise to new deposits, the possible money supply is, in this way, expanded or reduced. This policy tool has not been used too much in recent years. The money supply may also be influenced through manipulation of the discount rate, which is the rate if interest charged by the Federal Reserve banks on short term secured loans to member banks. Since these loans are typically sought to maintain reserves at their required level, an increase in the cost of such loans has an effect similar to that of increasing the reserve requirement. The classic method of indirect control is through open market operations, first widely used in the 1920s and now used daily to make some adjustment to the market. Federal Reserve bank sales or purchases of securities on the open market tend to reduce or increase the size of commercial bank reserves. When the Federal Reserve sells securities, the purchasers pay for them with checks drawn on their deposits, thereby reducing the reserves of the banks on which the checks are drawn. The three instruments of control explained above have been conceded to be more effective in preventing inflation in times of high economic activity than in bringing about revival from a ... Niane publishing a written version in French in 1960, and a version in English following in 1965. The epic tells the story of how Sundiata became the father of Mali and gave the world peace. Though Sundiata s bravery and generosity must be acknowledged, the fact that we still remember him today owes just as much if not more to the griots who tell his story, as well as the importance the epic places on recognizing diverse contributions. The role of the griot is inextricably bound up with both the Sundiata Epic itself, and the epic s long survival. Balla FassГ©kГ©, Sundiata s griot, is loyal to Sundiata all his life, despite their forced separation, and gives Sundiata the knowledge and encouragement he needs to defeat Soumaoro KantГ©. The relationship between griots and kings thus appears to be a mutually beneficial one, with the griots keeping the memory of the kings alive, while the kings and their deeds give the griots continued relevance. The first one crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The second plane was stopped by passengers. The two of them crashed the biggest towers in the U.S which are the World Trade Centerin New York. On that day 3,000 people died. For example, when I came to New York 5 years ago the securities were very strict with Arabic travelers. They were using dogs and hand searches to inspect travelers. Also, I sat for almost 6 hours to pass the immigration line. They were asking me questions about the reasons for why I came to the United States. However, I did not speak English, so, I asked them if they had a translator or my husband may help me to answer questions but they did not accept that. Third, after the September 11 attack, the relationship has undergone some profound changes between America and other countries especially with Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Political people in Saudi Arabia did not accept what happened in the United States and other countries have been exposed to violence. In addition, people a treatment became very rude with Muslims because they thought Muslims are agree with American s situation. For example, my uncle came with his family in 2003; they faced a lot of problems with American people. Also, while his wife was wearing Islamic dress, she got a lot of harassments from citizens. So, they could not stay more than one week then they decided to travel to Canada to complete their vacation. In my experience, sometimes old people called terrorist because I wearing Islamic costume. • 54. Frederick Law Olmsted Research Paper You just won a contest! You are very happy and can not wait to share your joy. You are living what Frederick Law Olmsted engaged in. He had to take part in a designing contest to win the right to build New York a park, soon to be known as, Central Park. Frederick Law Olmsted was an impactful and accomplished landscape architect. He showed the world about his works, and made fantasies of green grass and luscious trees come to a reality. He always made sure that everything went smoothingly. Frederick s most famous quote was, This is just what I have thought when I have seen slaves at work they seem to go through the motions of labor without putting strength into them. They keep their powers in reserve for their own use at night, perhaps. (Frederick ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One piece of evidence that shows Olmsted was an accomplished landscape architect is because Olmsted was good at what he did, as says in the above paragraph. He wins landscaping design competitions because he is successful and knows what to do and because he and everyone knew he was a professional. As says Algis Valiunas, Frederick Law Olmsted the grandmaster of American landscape architecture, felt all the pains of city living and made it his vocation to relieve them as much as possible (Valiunas). Now, we have a whole new ideaof his architecture, he feels pains. He felt it was his vocation, to make the city more, livable. It was his calling to make every place more livable, his eyes saw the sadness, busy streets, yelling from lane to lane. Olmsted saw the not so peacefulness of the city life. Compare streets of cars and gas, to green grass and blue skies. This was his tool to change the world, one park at a time. Furthermore, Olmsted went on to create many beautiful public parks throughout the U.S. and Canada (Phelan). Soon on, he became unstoppable. He took on honorary jobs and was the first at many things. In continuation, He lobbied successfully to make Yosemite a national park, ran Commissioned during the Civil War, cofounded the Nation, and created the first planned suburban community in America (Fredericksen). However, when time came close. People may not be able to recognize this name, whether you can, or not, Olmsted was accomplished. • 55. How Does Political Socialization Affect My Interest In... I have not had much interest in politics until recently. Before last year, I did not care for anything related to politics; I thought that it was all boring and had little to no affect on me on a personal level. I am more interested in politics nowadays. I know better now that it does affect me and I should care about it. I had learned about the concepts of political socialization, party identification, political tolerance, political trust, political efficacy in government class and how they affect my political beliefs. My personal political belief has been shaped into what it is today and is still being shaped because of those six concepts. Political socialization is the ongoing process in which we develop our political attitudes (Magleby... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the people in America identify themselves as moderate or they do not know if they are conservative or liberal (Magleby 103). I would rank myself as a liberal on the seven point identification scale because from what I know of conservatives, their beliefs clash with mine. According to the political surveys that we took in government class, I am a strong liberal. I have always been against conservative views for as long as I can remember; my family, especially my very conservative cousin that mentioned earlier, did not like that I did not conform to certain roles and scolded me for it, thus, resulting in my resentment of conservatives and conservative views. As I grew older, I noticed that I had unconsciously leaned more towards conservative views as a child because I wanted to fit in and not be the outlier in my family; now though, I can clearly see the faulty logic that my family holds and that it is alright for me to have my own ...
