Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Analysis
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, known as OCD, is considered a constant fear or worrying
aspect (obsessions) that includes the frequent repetition of behaviors to reduce anxiety
(compulsions). Some of the common symptoms include excessive washing or cleaning, repeated
actions such as opening and closing the door or even the light switch a number of times before
entering or leaving a room. Intelligence is not an issue as more people with OCD tend to
possess an above average IQ. Obsessive compulsive disorder affects children and adolescents, as
well as adults (one third to one half of adults with OCD report a childhood onset of the disorder).
Treatment for OCD involves the use of behavioral therapy as this involves increasing exposure to

It was attributed by the works from Lisa Merlo, Heather Lehmkuhl, Gary Geffken and Eric Storch
found in the PsycARTICLES database. First off, pediatric obsessive compulsive disorder is a
chronic, disabling condition. It in turn affects both the patients and their respected families. This
article calls to attention that not all patients respond fully and how family accommodation
specifically influences pediatric patients with OCD. It raises the question if there are improved
outcomes based on family accommodations. With that being said, the study investigates the
association between family accommodation and treatment outcome in a relatively large sample of
pediatric patients with OCD participating in cognitive behavioral therapy. The outcome regards
how effective the treatment actually was and what impact it had. The prediction is that the majority
of parents would report family accommodations of their child s symptoms and that family
accommodation would be seen as positively related to ratings of child OCD impairment. In turn, the
level of family accommodation would decrease following cognitive behavioral therapy participation
and post treatment levels of family accommodation would be

How To Stop Poaching
Killing In Action Poaching is a war, and many animals lose their lives and family to it. Although
many people don t think it s bad, it is. Many animals have gone extinct from it. People in the
world need to stop poaching otherwise we won t have elephants, tigers, rhinos or any other animals
anymore. People really don t care, but if we don t stop poachingwe won t have any of these
animals. Elephants tusks are used for piano keys, billiards balls and many other human
enjoyments. Many animals get poached but there are few that get poached so much that there is
little to non left. Elephant numbers have declined in the past five years at more than 75 percent
of the sites that they still occur.1 Elephant numbers have dropped because people have been
killing them for their tusks.1 The population of wild tigers has dropped from 100,000 to 3,500. 2

Should We Remember The Book Night
As someone may ask, how can a literature help us remember such a horrific event such as the
Holocaust and help honor those of many victims? Well, some evidence I have from this comes from
three different sources.
The first one is from the book night by Elie Weisel. The evidence I got for that to help my first
statement of the reasons how literature can help honor and remember those victimized in the
holocaust would be just the simple reasoning of why exactly he wrote that book. The reasoning
why he wrote that book is to help us remember exactly what happened and to warn us about future
events and to stick up for others when you need to break the silence of a repetitive wrong action.
You should never let anything go bad beyond, saying,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also states that as long as one child is hungry, our lives will be filled with anguish and shame.
He also says that the victims need to know that they are not alone and no one will be forgetting
them due to this literature helping us all remember and honor those who were affected, also how
their voices will not be stifled as we lend them ours and that their freedom depends on ours, the
quality of our freedom depends on theirs. Elie also states that no one is as capable of gratitude as
one who has emerged in the kingdom of night. Literature will help us honor and remember, you just

The Relationship Between Eloi and the Morlocks in The...
The Relationship Between Eloi and the Morlocks in The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
The Time Machine was inventively written as a social critique of the Victorian Era in 1895 by
Herbert George Wells, the father of modern science fiction. Wells used the novel to get the
messages across on social and political problems at the time when London was on top of the world.
The novel criticized mainly on communism, imperialism, capitalism, as well as Social Darwinism.
The Time Machine was an adventurous science fiction novel about a Time Traveler, the inventor of
a time machine who traveled to the year 802,701 A.D. In the course of his journey, he saw the
degeneration and the separation of mankind through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sight of the Elois reminded the Time Traveler of communism, which was one of the themes
in the novel, since they were all alike. Not only did they have delicate features of human but
they were also portrayed as being childlike. Then in a flash, I perceived that all had the same
form of costume, the same soft hairless visage, and the same girlish rotundity of limb, (Wells, 31).
Regardless of their physical similarities, the Time Traveler could not distinguish the age and the
gender of the Elois since they all looked the same. He believed that this was a result of the world
without troubles or fear, in which he criticized.
The theme of degeneration was apparent in this novel especially with the Elois. Not only were
they weak and childlike, but they also did not work or study. All they did was to play, sleep, eat,
bath, and laugh all day long. The Elois were stupid and lazy. They also could not concentrate for
a long period of time and they did not have much interest as seen when the Time Traveler was
trying to tell them where he was from or to teach them his language. You see I had always
anticipated that the people of the year Eight Hundred and Two Thousand odd would be incredibly
in front of us in knowledge, art, everything. Then one of them suddenly asked me a question that

The Best Death Ever
The Best Death Ever Niall Griffiths
By Christian Steenfeldt, 3.U
Children cannot differentiate between what is fun and what is serious. In the short story The Best
Death Ever by Niall Griffiths four boys are playing a game where they have to fake a death. The
boy whoever fakes the best death wins the game. The four boys do not understand what they are
doing and see the game, The Best Death Ever, as a fun game. Until one moment, when one of the
boys misjudges the distance to ground and almost hang himself meanwhile his friends where
shooting at him with their toy guns.
The story is narrated by a first person narrator who looks back at a specific incidence. The narrator
technique is very post modernistic. Niall Griffiths uses a lot of ... Show more content on

The story is a flashback of roughly 45 60 minutes of his life. The narrator looks back at that special
episode of his life and he turns all nostalgic.
The boys are strongly inspired by war movies and war stories told by the elderlies. The narrator has
received a toy gun from his granddad. He knows a lot about it because of his big interest in war. As
almost every other boy, they play games with guns and death involved. The problem is not that the
boys play war, but that they cannot differentiate between where the fun stops. In this game Gavin
almost killed himself, but it was not on purpose. A problem is, when the mom notices Gavin, she
immediately saves him. Then she slaps the narrator. By slapping the narrator she punishes him for
something that he does not know is wrong. The narrator is angry, because they have to award
Gavin the price of the best death.
I would shock and shake them all with the violence of my going. But we never played the game
again.
Because his mother hit him and did not tell him what they did wrong, he does not understand
consequences. Therefore he still wants to win the game next time and he wants to put even more
violence in than Gavin did. Luckily they never played the game again, because nobody knows what
would have happened then.
This story is a perfect example to show that taking extra care of your children is highly necessary.
If you do not teach your kid what is dangerous and what is not, it will have serious consequences.

Christine Castel Biography
Christine took up writing so she could support her family. Her father, Tommaso Di Benvenuto di
Pizzano, was an astrologer to Charles the Fifth, the king at the time. He was respected greatly by
Charles the Fifth. Christine was married at fifteen to Etienne du Castel. This was arranged, but
they loved each other anyways. Etienne was a scholar, a nobleman, and the Duke of Guyenne. He
was part of the French court, and supported Christine completely on her writing interests. Etienne
and Christine had three children together, including Jean de Castel, who was born in 1384 and
lived for eighty eight years. That is the only known child. One fateful day, Charles the fifth died,
and Christine s father lost his job. Not long after, Tommaso got sick and finally died. Just a few
months later, Christine s husband, Etienne, got the bubonic plague and died. Christine was so
devastated she wished she could just die. The thing was, Christine had to take care of her familyor
else they would starve to death. She was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first works Christine started to write were poems. Poems make up most of her writing.
Usually those poems were about Christine s long lost love, Etienne, but that was before she
realized how badly women were being treated. Remember, these were the Middle Ages; women
weren t even able to work back then. Women also (usually) had no form of education. Women were
even considered their husband s property. Christine started to criticize women s lack of rights in
her works. She believed strongly in gender equality and that women were strong, heroic, and brave.
Other than gender equality and love poems, she also wrote biographies and autobiographies. This
includes a biography about Charles the Fifth, which was very flattering and pleasing, and her
autobiography, which talks about her thoughts on women. This was written to cease the continued
debate about women. Christine was the original advocate for women s

Sydney Carton Essay
Sydney Carton is very important to the plot of A Tale of Two Cities. There are three separate
instances in this book where Carton keeps the plot going, and without him, the story would have
ended. The first was his similarity to Charles Darnay was keeping Darnay out of jail. Without
Carton, Mr. Stryver would not be able to win his cases because Sydney is the brains behind the
operation. Finally, he was executed instead of Darnay, so that Darnay and Lucie could live out
their lives together. The first we hear of Carton is at Charles Darnay s first trial. Charles is on
trial for spying on England for France. Mr. Stryver is Darnay s lawyer and has done almost
nothing to help the case, but just as it seems it is over for Charles, Stryver uses his final defense:
Charles Darnay looks exactly like Sydney Carton. At this time in history, trials were not just at all.
Often times public opinion was enough to sentence someone to death. Just before it seemed like
Charles would be convicted, Carton hands Stryver a note, saying that since... Show more content on

Carton also delivers one of the most iconic lines in the history of literature: It is a far, far better
thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than that I have ever
known. This quote tells a lot of who Sydney Carton really is. In the first half of the quote, Carton
says that he has never before made a sacrifice for anyone except himself. In the second half of the
quote, he says that he has never truly known peace in his life, but in his sacrifice he is able to find
this peace. Carton is often viewed as an insignificant side character, but Dickens masterfully weaves
characters in throughout the plot so that each and every character, especially Carton, is necessary to

It is Time to Legalize Marijuana Essay
The long standing prohibition against recreational use of cannabis in the United States should be
repealed. In addition, the penalties for possession and trafficking of cannabis should be abolished,
and cannabis should be taxed and regulated by the federal agency that controls the other
recreational, legal, yet addictive and potentially injurious substances tobacco and alcohol (the ATF).
Cannabis has been illegal since the Marijuana Tax act of 1934. Yet of a population of 284 million
(2000 U.S. Census), 70 million Americans claim to have smoked cannabis at some point in their
lives [NORML]. Prohibition of cannabis is therefore apparently ineffective at changing the habits of
a population, just as prohibition of alcohol was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, most marijuana smoked in the United States is grown in the United States [27
Information Plus]. In fact, across of the States farmland, cannabis is the number one cash crop
[Pollan; ONDCP], surpassing even tobacco. It is also important to note that the elicit cannabis
trade can be separated from the illicit hard drug trade (cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and the like are all
highly profitable and controlled entirely by armed cartels. It is much harder to justify the use of
these other drugs given the addiction and social ills associated with their use).
Given stark figures like numbers of cannabis smokers and amount of money spent to keep stoners in
jail, it seems ludicrous to argue that prohibition of cannabis be maintained. Yet despite of all the
credible scientific, medical and sociological reports indicating that cannabis prohibition is
damaging, or, at least, not helping the nation, public opinion of U.S. residents is counter. This can
be attributed to the multi million dollar propaganda campaign waged by the government and the
anti drug industrial complex. It may not surprise you to learn that major sponsors of D.A.R.E. and
similar (mis)education and advertising (propaganda) campaigns are often alcohol and tobacco
companies! The opposing opinion that cannabis should not be legalized is often based on erroneous
and outrageously wrong evidence. Statements that cannabis is a gateway drug, that it causes
schizophrenia and

Stereotypes Of African American Women During The Civil War
A closer study at Mammy , the quintessential Southern African American nanny, as the core icon of
African American womanhood, during the Civil War, particularly in films, who has figured
prominently on memory, reveals that her depiction and characteristics skewed the collective and
individual memory of the role of real African American women, such as Harriet Tubman. This
powerful figure in Southern households created stereotyped images of African Americanwomen
slaves, i.e. Gone with the Wind (1939), allowing audiences to believe this to be an accurate
depiction of African American women rather than recognizing the major contributions they made in
the Civil War. The stereotype overshadowed the real efforts and work of African American women,
both enslaved and freed; and left a false image which affected women then and now.
Particularly, in Civil War era films, African American women were predominantly shown as
having a robust figure, a constant smile, and a happy disposition, i.e. mammies. By the time the
flood of Civil War features began in 1908, these racist cliches were set in stone (Chadwick 80).
The archetype of Mammy became a stereotype created by white producers in an effort to portray
African American women in a more pleasing light, to satisfy white audiences. Filmmakers actions
created an intensified racial stereotype and instilled a false image of African Americans. Chadwick
called this the Hollywood black : a racial viewpoint filmmakers created about blacks.

may also include an intellectual disability or a hearing, sight, or mobility issue. With so many
people in our nation dealing with developmental disabilities, understanding what they are facing is

He claims that in demand to support and defend Animal Farm and toughen the certainty of Old

Napoleon always disagrees with Snowball s ideas because he doesn t want him to lead Animal Farm.
Snowball is eventually forced out of the farm when Napoleon uses his guard dogs to attack
Snowball. After that, he is blamed for issues of the farm, and it is claimed that he was in support
of Mr. Jones at the beginning. Even though he fought for Mr. Jones and the shorts offends are
distorted to wounds Napoleon perpetrated on him, those faulted of associating him are achieved
after being required to profess, or declare, and a compensation is proposed for his capture.
Snowball is a very imaginative and knowing pig that manipulated others to his side. It is never

implied that the dogs killed him. Nevertheless, he is shown escaping the dogs and surviving in the

This plays a pivotal role to function the organizations on goings. The foundation of informal

However, when White is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, he begins manufacturing the greatest

Therefore the story of Offred is also questioned in the ending, the Historical Notes. In the
beginning we are immediately plunged into a rather fragmented narrative, and a seemingly
nightmarish world (in this case the dystopian setting is Gilead) where we know very little about
what is going on or what is going to happen to Offred, the main character, sleeping in a gym
guarded by aunts . The state of shock and bewilderment created leads to the rest of the opening
being read in a state of suspense. The setting of a disused university gymnasium helps to achieve
a sense of tension as it subtly reminds the reader of the ideas of nuclear fallout: Offred had slept in
what had once been the gymnasium . Gymnasiums often feature in journalism as emergency
centres; this location immediately suggests to the reader that something is wrong. The reader is
confused as the narrative starts seemingly with a crisis though what that causes is not stated. The
first chapter is in past tense and is used to establish her situation and explore how the gymnasium
represents the past, with Offred wistfully longing for days of a bygone era. This is reinforced by
the narrator reminiscing about high school dances that would have been held in the gym, girls felt
skirted...later in mini skirts . It can be argued therefore, that the introduction of the novel serves as a
means to persuade the reader to read on; missing vital information and an unfamiliar use of the
setting achieve

Exchanges with Industry Before Receipt of Proposals (4-4)
Exchanges With Industry Before Receipt of Proposals (4 4) Part 15 of the Federal Acquisition
Regulations (FAR) prescribes [the] policies and procedures governing competitive and
noncompetitive negotiated acquisitions. One component of negotiated acquisitions that occurs
early in the acquisition process is the solicitation of proposals. FAR 15.201, titled, Exchanges with
Industry before Receipt of Proposals, regulates the type and manner of communications, also
sometimes referred to as exchanges, which can and cannot take place between the Government and
potential suppliers prior to the receipt of a potential supplier s proposal and the subsequent award
of a contract.

This fact is stated plainly and directly even in the FAR itself, where it is written, Agencies are
encouraged to promote early exchange of information about future acquisitions. Exchanges are
beneficial to all parties involved in the acquisition process, and there are a number of reasons why
such exchanges are beneficial. As the regulations explain at FAR 15.201(b), some of these benefits
include an improved understanding of the Government s requirements for the potential suppliers,
and also an improved understanding of a potential supplier s capabilities by the Government.
Additionally, exchanges between Government and potential suppliers can help the Government
firm up or finalize their acquisition plan and source selection strategy for a particular procurement
by enabling them to determine things such as, proposed contract type, terms and conditions, and
acquisition planning schedules, as well as, the feasibility of the requirement, including performance
requirements, statements of work, and data requirements.
I. TYPES OF EXCHANGES The FAR lists a number of ways in which exchanges between
Government and Industry might occur prior to the issuance of a contract award. Examples of these
types of exchanges include, Pre Solicitation Conferences and Industry Days; Pre Proposal
Conferences; and One on One Meetings with Potential Offerors. A. Pre Solicitation Conference

Born Sinner Biography
I was 14 years old, days before the school year ended, when I found myself stumbling upon a
surprise announcement by J. Cole, my Lord and Savior himself; My new album. 2014 Forest Hills
Drive. 12/9 .
Then there was me. A teenaged schoolgirl scavenging various german sites for any leaked sample
of this album I could find. I found myself feeling (weirdly) good about myself, like hey, look at
me, I m so unique and would you look at my music taste.
North Carolina rapper J. Cole s follow up to 2013 s Born Sinner rejects featuring collaborations,
producing his most intimate and elaborate album yet, that made me reminisce about the classic
Cole sound, though parts of this album suggest he has developed his sense of versatility by adapting
his signature sound into a more complex and diverse mixture of upright front tones and technically
produced backbeats, while incorporating his signature hard hitting lyrics, proving his ingenuity in
the production of his tracks. In his quest to canonize his sound, he ignored the release of singles

sub basses and upright tones which evoke a cool, airy feel, somewhat adding to the sensuality of
this song. The tones of a lush synthesizer and rattling high hats are compiled to produce this
masterpiece of a both rhythmic and chill style. The harmonious tones in the background are
formatted perfectly to comply with technical languid tones, to ensure his audience focuses on the
lyrical message, by not unnecessarily amplifying it with the backbeats and support sounds itself.
This technique of eschewing the idea of upfront rhythms and kick basses is applied to songs such
as Hello , Apparently and St Tropez , where the lyrics are the focal point of the

Why Writing Is Important To Me
I do not think of myself as a very good writer. I feel that my writing is always scrambled, and
doesn t quite flow like it should. I do like to write however, if the subject interests me. I would
much rather write about a topic that I know a lot about, and care about. If I was to write a paper
about dragons, it most likely would not be written very well because I don t care about that
subject. I like to write because it is something that I think can be fun. It also is a great way to
express yourself in words. A memorable writingassignment would be the DAR paperthat I wrote in
fifth grade. DAR stands for Daughters of the American Revolution. DAR is a history writing
competition. You write about an assigned topic or time period and you make up a story that later
gets judged. One of the reasons that this specific writing assignment was so memorable to me is
because I think that it was one of the best papers that I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My writing never seems to go together like it should. To me almost all of my writing seems
weak. I always think that there is a lot more that I could have fixed. My writing would be so
much better if I knew what exactly it is that I want to change and how to change it. One of the
main reasons that I think my writing assignments aren t very good is because they aren t very
creative. Even though I think that my weaknesses outweigh my strengths I do have some
strengths. Some of these would be that I can easily follow the rubric and can usually get a good
grade on my papers. I also think that I am pretty good at the grammar and spelling part of writing
assignments. One of my goals this year is to become a more confident writer. If I could think that I
am a good writer, it will probably show in my writing pieces. I would also like to work on showing
voice in my papers. Some of the goals that I have as a writer in my life would be to learn to like my

Temple In Jerusalem
For many years the Israelis and the Palestinians have been occupied with an intense and savage
clash over nationhood and statehood. The authentic foundations of the hugeness of the area
contained inside of Israel can be followed back to the season of King Solomon in 957 BCE, from
that point forward the Jewish individuals have been cruelly oppressed by religious extremists and
political tyrants. Through persistence and occupation the Jews secured the guaranteed land in 1948
after two severe worldwide wars. Be that as it may, brutality proceeds as Israeland Palestine can t

Comparing Zefferelli s Production of Romeo and Juliet with Luhrman Production In this essay I
am going to write how the production of Romeo In Franco Zeffirelli s production of Romeo and
Juliet, the setting and language are of a traditional, realistic nature. This is in complete contrast to
Baz Luhrmans production, with the exception of the language used in both productions. Zefferelli
s production however is far more effective, as he has tried to keep the film close to the original
script and intended exactly how Shakespeare wrote it. This approach clearly portrays the concept
Shakespeare is trying to demonstrate and it sincerely aids understanding, as Zefferelli has kept it
original.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zefferelli does not vary the camera shots as much as Luhrman does, although he uses different
angles to suit the atmosphere he wants to create. He also uses many natural sounds, e.g. crowd
noises, horses travelling. I have noticed in the opening, he uses non diegetic sounds until Romeo
s entrance. Luhrman uses a lot more music, which is of great significance as this is what creates
the atmospheric moods of the play. The lighting varies greatly in each play. It plays an essential
role in displaying the importance of character or in setting an atmosphere. In Zefferelli s
production, the lighting in the opening scenes is of a dull, low key nature (no detail), and then
develops as the market stall scene commences; the lighting is now high key, showing more detail.
This is in complete opposite to the lighting used in Luhrman s production, as Luhrman applies high
key lighting straight from the beginning. Zefferelli in his production shows a distinct contrast in
the outfits worn by the two individual, different families. Both Luhrman and Zefferelli use a
stereotype view on the clothing. The use of sets in the film makes it far more effective and
realistic. Zefferelli uses all the old fashion original props, such as swords etc. Luhrman replaces
these swords applying the modern approach to killing, using guns.

The Heian Period Essay
The Heian Period from about 794 1185 A.D. was an impressive era in Japanese history.
Considered Japan s Classical Age, it was a period of wealth and sophistication. Peace and
prosperity, high culture, powerful clans, new ideas and relative independence of foreign influence
marked this time.
The move to the capital of Heian kyЕЌ (modern day Kyoto) was motivated in large part on a desire
by Emperor Kammu to reduce the substantial influence exercised by the monasteries in HeijЕЌ
kyЕЌ (modern day Nara). Nara was patterned after the capital city of Tang, China, and its religion
was based on their brand of Buddhism. Earlier Imperial sponsorship of Buddhism had politicized
the clergy, resulting in power and corruption within their leadership. ... Show more content on

Great care was taken in color coordination of kimonos. In addition, lavish makeup was also prized,
and women of high caste were never seen in public without it. Even among men, good taste in dress
and manner were valued more highly than skill in battle.
The Heian Period marked a newfound independence in Japanese thought and brought with it a
sense of national pride that caused its people to begin a separation from the dominant Chinese
influence. Although trade continued on unofficial levels, Japanese rulers severed official ties with
China.
Big changes were taking place in Japanese writing, as well. Although Chinese remained the
official written language of the court, Kana, a simplified method of writing, was developed.
Each symbol was a simplified version of Chinese characters and represented spoken syllables
used in Japanese. The ease of learning led to broader literacy and many poems and stories being
written. Many women possessed the ability to read and write and were able to express their
ideas, one of the best examples being The Tale of Genji, by Murasaki Shikibu. Believed to be the
world s first novel, it offers a detailed look at Heian court life, rituals, and culture. Educated
women such as these were often able to progress in Heian society, with considerable rights and
privileges. As such, they filled roles at all levels and were often major players in politics and power
struggles.
This period also saw the beginnings of the samurai.

Coercion Or Conversion And Religious Differences At Uic
Coercion or Conversion Interfaith relationships are complicated on a college campus, because so

issue that is often encountered on college campuses is the issue of interfaith cooperation between
student groups. An example of this is when a group of students feel that a certain faith is being
pushed upon them or they cannot practice their own religionin peace. We encounter this issue in
our case study Coercion or Conversion? Grappling with Religious Difference at UIC . Our case
study illustrates the fear of several students. The students fear that if this particular religious group
joins their interfaith organization, that they will be coerced into joining the group s popular
religion and abandoning their own religion. However, this case study allows the opinions of each
side of the argument to be explored, so an unbiased observer can articulate a solution which is best

This is a seemingly arbitrary description of a mundane daily occurrence placed between scenes of
action. The narrator, Jack, goes from contemplating the intricacies of death, to describing the

Delillo does this to draw attention to the daily occurrences that are ignored. Everything he
describes, whether it s the, white package of bacon without a plastic window for viewing a
representative slice (18), or the blue jeans tumbling in the dryer, is part of the massive amount of
information that must constantly be processed by denizens of a first world society. The jarring
nature with which he places these phrases forces the reader to view them not as background
information, but instead as something more. They are made to stick out. Delillo hopes to use this
technique to make the reader consider how much information is relevant. It is not outlandish to
have blue jeans in a dryer, nor is it strange to know they are in the dryer, however, to consciously
consider this information and what it means is very strange. While the blue jeans are an innocuous

Despite the challenges and following numerous public debates and congressional hearings,
President Clinton has able to reach a compromise in 1993. The Don t Ask, Don t Tell, Don t
Pursue policy passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1993 was the
compromise outcome of Clinton s campaign promise to repeal the ban on military service by
homosexuals (Rich, Schutten Rogers, 2012). Soldiers would not be actively screened and as long
as their sexual orientation was kept personal, there would be no adverse actions taken. Under the
Don t Ask, Don t Tell between 1993 and 2011, over 14,000 military men and women were

The Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy did not explicitly state that gay, lesbian or bisexual was wrong. In

rating, where the higher number of hours of studying will predict a lower positive sleep quality
rating. In addition, a student s stress reaction score measured by multidimensional personality
questionnaire (MPQ) standards on stress reaction factor will act as a mediator on the student s
sleep quality. A total of 278 participants aided in the formation of the data and statisticsof this study.
This sample was chosen through a voluntary questionnaire given to Fall Semester 2016
Psychology300 students. It was a convenient sample to take from due to the high likelihood of most
of the student s taking the survey. The questionnaire was administered through an online survey
website termed Qualtrics. The incentive to take this questionnaire and complete it accurately was
eight points worth of extra credit awarded to students who did so. Additionally, it was disclosed that
students would be using the survey data for later project purposes and should answer truthfully to

Similarities Between The Spanish And English Colonies In 1492
The arrival of Christopher Columbus in the New World in 1492 began a new period of
colonization lasting until 1763. In that time period, the Spanish and English rushed to claim,
conquer, control, and colonize as much of North and South America as possible. Of course, two
different countries resulted in two different methods of colonization as a result of the differing
religions and systems of government. The small similarities and significant differences between the
Spanish and English colonies in the New World were due to their systems of government and the
influence of European leaders, differences in religion and religious importance, and their treatment
of the indigenous peoples of the New World.
The momentous differences and minor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He controlled the assembly of Maryland forcing legislature he supported, like the Maryland
Toleration Act. The Act protected religious freedom in the colony. In Plymouth, the Mayflower
Compact was their constitution and held that the consent of the governed was needed to pass
legislature. Therefore, the colony was ruled by all who resided there through town meetings and
the use of direct democracy. The majorities ideas and decisions would be passed and made into
law. In Massachusetts Bay, a governing board met in the colony led by John Winthrop and other
Puritan leaders. This governing body was the first assembly that met in the colonies and wasn t
influenced by Britain. Later on, the King of England would revoke all charters and create royal
charters for all the colonies so each was under his direct control. He would assign a royal
governor to each colony that would carry out his bidding. The small similarity between the two
colonies was that both the Spanish and English colonies ended up being controlled by their
respective monarchs, but originally both colonies had very diverse methods of government due to
the different goals of each colony. While every Spanish colony had the

Cause And Effect Essay About Chicago
Downtown Chicago is the pride of Chicago, a mask of beauty and culture. Magnificent views,
amazing sky scrapers, wonderful land, the beautiful lake front and peaceful people are how most
people who visit Downtown Chicago from a different location would probably describe Chicago.
This is a place where children between the ages of thirteen through eighteen grow to discover their
potential being and most likely get a sneak peek on how bright their future will be. However, we
sometimes forget to mention how Chicagois one of the most devastating cities in the world today
due to the crimes that occur in the streets of Chicago, mostly taking place on the Westside and
Southside of Chicago every day. As we all know, Chicago was eventually named Chiraq... Show

The reason why I say this is because one of the key things I feel that makes Chicago so violent,
is because most children and teenager s brains are not taught well that violence is not the way
out to whatever situation they have going on in their lives. According to United States
Department of Justice, Facts about Children and Violence, Children exposed to violence are
also at a higher risk of engaging in criminal behavior later in life becoming part of a cycle of
violence. Whatever they have experienced or been taught is how they will react to any situation
which may just be violence or drugs and alcohol. That is why the murder rate from teenagers is
so high because they feel the beats and lyrics in some of the music that they listen to and react
how certain artists portray themselves and others in their songs. They probably feel as though
this gives them the power to do anything they want to do far as killing people or selling drugs,
much more because a lot of music artists today only talks about violence in their songs. While
talking to children and a few camp counselor I learned that children feel intimidated when adults
see them and don t speak so one of the things adults can do to stand up to help the environment is
to engage more with one another and children to make the kids feel safe rather than on edge which
can lead to

La Farce de Maitre Pathelin- the character of Guillemette
La Farce de Maitre Pierre Pathelin has been called a little masterpiece . In comparison to most
earlier works of French medieval literature, it is highly complex in many aspects. In the words of
Cazamian, a high level of artistic creation is reached. This essay will focus on Guillemette and
study both her role in the play, and the complex nature of this character. Such a study should give
the reader an idea of the plays high level of artistic creation , and also illustrate some of the many
witty double meanings and underlying messages that are present right throughout the Farce.
Although Guillemette appears in only four of the ten scenes of the Farce (according to the scene
division in the modern French translation), she is much more ... Show more content on

In scene V, a similar comparison can be made between the intelligence of Guillemette and that of
the drapier. It is true that Guillemette has the advantage over the drapier in that she is at home and
Pathelin is on her side against the drapier; but one would still assume that a crafty tradesman
would be more quick witted than a simple housewife. Yet, as already noted above, Guillemette
manages to completely outsmart and deceive the drapier, leaving him dumbfounded. In this scene,
as in scenes I and III, Guillemette s cleverness is clear.
So Guillemette comes across as more intelligent than the other main characters in the play; and,
unlike them, she is not the victim of trickery. The result of this is that Guillemette is the
character with whom the audience can identify with most closely. In a play such as the Farce,
where there is no narrator, one of the characters often plays the role of an intermediary between
the characters and the audience. Such a character encourages the audience to feel more involved
in the play and to see it as a reflection of their own society. In the Farce and it is Guillemette who
plays this role, and it is in this way that she is most important. At no point does she address the
audience

Summary Of The Miraculous Journey Of Edward Tulane
I have read this book a couple times now, and the many complex things I have learned are
unbearable. Every chapter is important to what the end of the story is going to be. I think this
story of a china rabbit finding his way back home had more plot twists than I thought this story
would have. The first lesson that I will tell you will be to never give up hope on love, but to always
know that somebody will find room in their hearts for you. When you figure out what love is, your
heart will grow even bigger.
Love can bring together the love of others around them. But love can also bring effect on others
that have not seen what love can do to them. Love is not the impact of how expensive your
belongings are. Nothing is more expensive than the price of love. And that s one of the lessons
that I have learned from the book that I have read. In the beginning I read pages 5 thru 7 where
edward specifically said: The china rabbit was in possession of an extraordinary wardrobe
composed of handmade silk suits, custom shoes fashioned from the finest leather and designed
specifically for his rabbit feet, and a wide array of hats equipped with holes so that they could
easily fit over edward s large and expressive ears. Each pair of well cut pants had a small pocket
for Edward s gold pocket watch (Page 7) writing from the book The Miraculous Journey Of
Edward Tulane. and when I read that paragraph, I thought to myself, that not what love is about,
love is about the trust of others

Kitchen and Heating Plant
The kitchen, located in the basement, approximately 34 feet by 63 feet in size adjoined the Melody
Lounge on the north side (Shawmut Street). It obviously contained the normal kitchen items.
It was an unfinished room with a concrete floor, walls and ceiling.
Exits were by means of a stairway to the main dining room and by the door into the passageway,
and into the adjoining room occupied by the heating plant, which had an exit to Shawmut Street,
called the service door.
The heating plant was contained in a room approx. 16 feet by 40 feet in size, on the Shawmut
Street Side. It adjoined the kitchen and it contents consisted of a furnace, fired by fuel oil from two
275 gallon storage tanks.
Another section of the basement (on the Piedmont Street side) adjoined the kitchen and the Melody
Lounge, and was used as a storage vault.
Dressing Rooms
In the second class structure (no. 4 6 Shawmut Street), adjoining the first class structure (located
between the main dining room and the Broadway Lounge) on the second and third floors, were
located the dressing rooms used by entertainers employed at the Cocoanut Grove Club.
Entrance to these rooms was from a door leading from the main dining room near the orchestra
platform (on the Shawmut Street side), or from the Shawmut Street by a door at the foot of the
stairway to the second and third floors.
The dressing rooms had ordinary plaster walls, wooden floors and

Erikson and Goffman on American Identity Essay
When foreigners think of America, they think of McDonald s, the Statue of Liberty, Hollywood
film stars, and the list goes on. In terms of Americans, people associate Texans with cowboy boats,
Californians with surfboards, and New Yorkers with a snobbish grin on their face. It is true that all
these things represent America in one way or another, but what exactly is American identity?
Erikson s analysis on American identity has drawn attention to four topics: Mom, adolescent, boss,
and machine. He links all four topics together by using the myth of John Henry Hero. Goffman, on
the other hand, develops dramaturgical analysis to understand human behaviors. He sees men as
actors with different roles and these actors have to perform to... Show more content on

Second, parents do not satisfy everything the child demands, and the child feels neglected and
grows distant from his parents. John Henry left his parents because his parents fed the dogs
before they fed him. Third, he left because he was sure that he could take care of himself. John
Henry took into his grave believing that a man counts only as a man (Erikson, P. 299). Hence, in
another point of view, he abandoned his parents just as Erikson says, it was the child who
abandoned the mother, because he had been in such a hurry to become independent (Erikson,
P.296).This abandonment also lead to another factor rejections to intimate feelings. Erikson finds
not only the sorrow of having been abandoned but also the fear of committing to deep emotions
(Erikson, P.301) in cowboys because there is a mental barrier in knowing that they have
abandoned their mothers and have been abandoned by her. Cowboys, thus, are usually rather
lonely people. Their job will not let them see their family nor their friends very often. They are the
man without roots, the motherless man, the womenless man (Erikson, P.299). The nonsense folk
songs offer a funny yet sarcastic view of cowboys life they are not bounded by relationships
because they are not allowed to do so. This lifestyle,

BALAENOPTEROIDS (CETACEA, MYSTICETI): IMPLICATIONS ON FOSSIL CETACEAN
PALEOECOLOGY AND BIOLOGY
KERR, Tyler J., University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY, United States, 82071
BACKGROUND
Whales (Cetacea) are unique among mammals in that they possess exceptionally dense,
pachyosteosclerotic tympanic bullae1. Along the margin of the bulla is a highly mineralized,
extremely dense wall of bone called the involucrum that serves as a special adaptation to life in the
sea and as a means to facilitate sound reception and directionality underwater2,3,4. Moreover, this
cetacean synapomorphy plays an important role in distinguishing its members from the ancestral
terrestrial artiodactyls from which whales diverged5. When cut into cross sections, the involucral
region of the tympanic bullae in many mysticete (baleen whale) lineages reveals three easily
distinguishable zones of concentric laminar growth. Here we hypothesize that these three distinct
zones identified along the length of the tympanic bullae are capable of recording life history events
during early development, when the cetacean tympanoperiotic region is known to be rapidly
ossifying6. We propose that the innermost zone (1) represents rapid in utero growth, the
intermediary zone (2) represents rapid birth and postnatal development, and the outermost zone (3),
markedly thinner, represents slower, more lamellar development from weaning on through
adulthood.

  • 2. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Analysis Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, known as OCD, is considered a constant fear or worrying aspect (obsessions) that includes the frequent repetition of behaviors to reduce anxiety (compulsions). Some of the common symptoms include excessive washing or cleaning, repeated actions such as opening and closing the door or even the light switch a number of times before entering or leaving a room. Intelligence is not an issue as more people with OCD tend to possess an above average IQ. Obsessive compulsive disorder affects children and adolescents, as well as adults (one third to one half of adults with OCD report a childhood onset of the disorder). Treatment for OCD involves the use of behavioral therapy as this involves increasing exposure to what... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was attributed by the works from Lisa Merlo, Heather Lehmkuhl, Gary Geffken and Eric Storch found in the PsycARTICLES database. First off, pediatric obsessive compulsive disorder is a chronic, disabling condition. It in turn affects both the patients and their respected families. This article calls to attention that not all patients respond fully and how family accommodation specifically influences pediatric patients with OCD. It raises the question if there are improved outcomes based on family accommodations. With that being said, the study investigates the association between family accommodation and treatment outcome in a relatively large sample of pediatric patients with OCD participating in cognitive behavioral therapy. The outcome regards how effective the treatment actually was and what impact it had. The prediction is that the majority of parents would report family accommodations of their child s symptoms and that family accommodation would be seen as positively related to ratings of child OCD impairment. In turn, the level of family accommodation would decrease following cognitive behavioral therapy participation and post treatment levels of family accommodation would be ... Many animals have gone extinct from it. People in the world need to stop poaching otherwise we won t have elephants, tigers, rhinos or any other animals anymore. People really don t care, but if we don t stop poachingwe won t have any of these animals. Elephants tusks are used for piano keys, billiards balls and many other human enjoyments. Many animals get poached but there are few that get poached so much that there is little to non left. Elephant numbers have declined in the past five years at more than 75 percent of the sites that they still occur.1 Elephant numbers have dropped because people have been killing them for their tusks.1 The population of wild tigers has dropped from 100,000 to 3,500. 2 The population of tigers has dropped because their pelts are really valuable on the black market.3 Rhino population has dropped drastically because of... • 4. Should We Remember The Book Night As someone may ask, how can a literature help us remember such a horrific event such as the Holocaust and help honor those of many victims? Well, some evidence I have from this comes from three different sources. The first one is from the book night by Elie Weisel. The evidence I got for that to help my first statement of the reasons how literature can help honor and remember those victimized in the holocaust would be just the simple reasoning of why exactly he wrote that book. The reasoning why he wrote that book is to help us remember exactly what happened and to warn us about future events and to stick up for others when you need to break the silence of a repetitive wrong action. You should never let anything go bad beyond, saying,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also states that as long as one child is hungry, our lives will be filled with anguish and shame. He also says that the victims need to know that they are not alone and no one will be forgetting them due to this literature helping us all remember and honor those who were affected, also how their voices will not be stifled as we lend them ours and that their freedom depends on ours, the quality of our freedom depends on theirs. Elie also states that no one is as capable of gratitude as one who has emerged in the kingdom of night. Literature will help us honor and remember, you just need to speak ... Wells The Time Machine was inventively written as a social critique of the Victorian Era in 1895 by Herbert George Wells, the father of modern science fiction. Wells used the novel to get the messages across on social and political problems at the time when London was on top of the world. The novel criticized mainly on communism, imperialism, capitalism, as well as Social Darwinism. The sight of the Elois reminded the Time Traveler of communism, which was one of the themes in the novel, since they were all alike. Not only did they have delicate features of human but they were also portrayed as being childlike. Then in a flash, I perceived that all had the same form of costume, the same soft hairless visage, and the same girlish rotundity of limb, (Wells, 31). Regardless of their physical similarities, the Time Traveler could not distinguish the age and the gender of the Elois since they all looked the same. He believed that this was a result of the world without troubles or fear, in which he criticized. The theme of degeneration was apparent in this novel especially with the Elois. Not only were they weak and childlike, but they also did not work or study. All they did was to play, sleep, eat, bath, and laugh all day long. The Elois were stupid and lazy. They also could not concentrate for a long period of time and they did not have much interest as seen when the Time Traveler was trying to tell them where he was from or to teach them his language. • 6. The Best Death Ever The Best Death Ever Niall Griffiths By Christian Steenfeldt, 3.U Children cannot differentiate between what is fun and what is serious. In the short story The Best Death Ever by Niall Griffiths four boys are playing a game where they have to fake a death. The boy whoever fakes the best death wins the game. The four boys do not understand what they are doing and see the game, The Best Death Ever, as a fun game. Until one moment, when one of the boys misjudges the distance to ground and almost hang himself meanwhile his friends where shooting at him with their toy guns. The story is narrated by a first person narrator who looks back at a specific incidence. The narrator technique is very post modernistic. Niall Griffiths uses a lot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story is a flashback of roughly 45 60 minutes of his life. The narrator looks back at that special episode of his life and he turns all nostalgic. The boys are strongly inspired by war movies and war stories told by the elderlies. The narrator has received a toy gun from his granddad. He knows a lot about it because of his big interest in war. As almost every other boy, they play games with guns and death involved. The problem is not that the boys play war, but that they cannot differentiate between where the fun stops. In this game Gavin almost killed himself, but it was not on purpose. A problem is, when the mom notices Gavin, she immediately saves him. Then she slaps the narrator. By slapping the narrator she punishes him for something that he does not know is wrong. The narrator is angry, because they have to award Gavin the price of the best death. I would shock and shake them all with the violence of my going. But we never played the game again. Because his mother hit him and did not tell him what they did wrong, he does not understand consequences. Therefore he still wants to win the game next time and he wants to put even more violence in than Gavin did. Luckily they never played the game again, because nobody knows what would have happened then. This story is a perfect example to show that taking extra care of your children is highly necessary. If you do not teach your kid what is dangerous and what is not, it will have serious consequences. As in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was respected greatly by Charles the Fifth. Christine was married at fifteen to Etienne du Castel. This was arranged, but they loved each other anyways. Etienne was a scholar, a nobleman, and the Duke of Guyenne. He was part of the French court, and supported Christine completely on her writing interests. Etienne and Christine had three children together, including Jean de Castel, who was born in 1384 and lived for eighty eight years. That is the only known child. One fateful day, Charles the fifth died, and Christine s father lost his job. Not long after, Tommaso got sick and finally died. Christine started to criticize women s lack of rights in her works. She believed strongly in gender equality and that women were strong, heroic, and brave. Other than gender equality and love poems, she also wrote biographies and autobiographies. • 8. Sydney Carton Essay Sydney Carton is very important to the plot of A Tale of Two Cities. There are three separate instances in this book where Carton keeps the plot going, and without him, the story would have ended. The first was his similarity to Charles Darnay was keeping Darnay out of jail. Without Carton, Mr. Stryver would not be able to win his cases because Sydney is the brains behind the operation. Finally, he was executed instead of Darnay, so that Darnay and Lucie could live out their lives together. The first we hear of Carton is at Charles Darnay s first trial. Charles is on trial for spying on England for France. Mr. Stryver is Darnay s lawyer and has done almost nothing to help the case, but just as it seems it is over for Charles, Stryver uses his final defense: Charles Darnay looks exactly like Sydney Carton. At this time in history, trials were not just at all. Often times public opinion was enough to sentence someone to death. In the second half of the quote, he says that he has never truly known peace in his life, but in his sacrifice he is able to find this peace. • 9. It is Time to Legalize Marijuana Essay The long standing prohibition against recreational use of cannabis in the United States should be repealed. In addition, the penalties for possession and trafficking of cannabis should be abolished, and cannabis should be taxed and regulated by the federal agency that controls the other recreational, legal, yet addictive and potentially injurious substances tobacco and alcohol (the ATF). Cannabis has been illegal since the Marijuana Tax act of 1934. Yet of a population of 284 million (2000 U.S. Census), 70 million Americans claim to have smoked cannabis at some point in their lives [NORML]. Furthermore, most marijuana smoked in the United States is grown in the United States [27 Information Plus]. In fact, across of the States farmland, cannabis is the number one cash crop [Pollan; ONDCP], surpassing even tobacco. It is also important to note that the elicit cannabis trade can be separated from the illicit hard drug trade (cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and the like are all highly profitable and controlled entirely by armed cartels. It is much harder to justify the use of these other drugs given the addiction and social ills associated with their use). Given stark figures like numbers of cannabis smokers and amount of money spent to keep stoners in jail, it seems ludicrous to argue that prohibition of cannabis be maintained. Yet despite of all the credible scientific, medical and sociological reports indicating that cannabis prohibition is damaging, or, at least, not helping the nation, public opinion of U.S. residents is counter. This can be attributed to the multi million dollar propaganda campaign waged by the government and the anti drug industrial complex. It may not surprise you to learn that major sponsors of D.A.R.E. and similar (mis)education and advertising (propaganda) campaigns are often alcohol and tobacco companies! The opposing opinion that cannabis should not be legalized is often based on erroneous and outrageously wrong evidence. • 10. Stereotypes Of African American Women During The Civil War A closer study at Mammy , the quintessential Southern African American nanny, as the core icon of African American womanhood, during the Civil War, particularly in films, who has figured prominently on memory, reveals that her depiction and characteristics skewed the collective and individual memory of the role of real African American women, such as Harriet Tubman. This powerful figure in Southern households created stereotyped images of African Americanwomen slaves, i.e. Gone with the Wind (1939), allowing audiences to believe this to be an accurate depiction of African American women rather than recognizing the major contributions they made in the Civil War. The stereotype overshadowed the real efforts and work of African American women, both enslaved and freed; and left a false image which affected women then and now. Particularly, in Civil War era films, African American women were predominantly shown as having a robust figure, a constant smile, and a happy disposition, i.e. mammies. By the time the flood of Civil War features began in 1908, these racist cliches were set in stone (Chadwick 80). The archetype of Mammy became a stereotype created by white producers in an effort to portray African American women in a more pleasing light, to satisfy white audiences. Filmmakers actions created an intensified racial stereotype and instilled a false image of African Americans. Chadwick called this the Hollywood black : a racial viewpoint filmmakers created about blacks. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, both authors, Ishiguro and Atwood, utilise openings and endings in their novels significantly. The opening of a novel plays a major part in establishing the tone of what is to come, with the ending leaving a lasting, final impression on the reader. The security of the first person narration in Never Let Me Go encourages the reader to engage with Kathy H in order to destroy our relationship at the end. This disillusionment serves to anger the reader and fuel our sense of disappointment. Therefore the story of Offred is also questioned in the ending, the Historical Notes. In the beginning we are immediately plunged into a rather fragmented narrative, and a seemingly nightmarish world (in this case the dystopian setting is Gilead) where we know very little about what is going on or what is going to happen to Offred, the main character, sleeping in a gym guarded by aunts . The state of shock and bewilderment created leads to the rest of the opening being read in a state of suspense. The setting of a disused university gymnasium helps to achieve a sense of tension as it subtly reminds the reader of the ideas of nuclear fallout: Offred had slept in what had once been the gymnasium . Gymnasiums often feature in journalism as emergency centres; this location immediately suggests to the reader that something is wrong. The reader is confused as the narrative starts seemingly with a crisis though what that causes is not stated. The first chapter is in past tense and is used to establish her situation and explore how the gymnasium represents the past, with Offred wistfully longing for days of a bygone era. This is reinforced by the narrator reminiscing about high school dances that would have been held in the gym, girls felt skirted...later in mini skirts . It can be argued therefore, that the introduction of the novel serves as a means to persuade the reader to read on; missing vital information and an unfamiliar use of the setting achieve ... This is in complete contrast to Baz Luhrmans production, with the exception of the language used in both productions. Zefferelli does not vary the camera shots as much as Luhrman does, although he uses different angles to suit the atmosphere he wants to create. He also uses many natural sounds, e.g. crowd noises, horses travelling. I have noticed in the opening, he uses non diegetic sounds until Romeo s entrance. Luhrman uses a lot more music, which is of great significance as this is what creates the atmospheric moods of the play. The lighting varies greatly in each play. It plays an essential role in displaying the importance of character or in setting an atmosphere. In Zefferelli s production, the lighting in the opening scenes is of a dull, low key nature (no detail), and then develops as the market stall scene commences; the lighting is now high key, showing more detail. This is in complete opposite to the lighting used in Luhrman s production, as Luhrman applies high key lighting straight from the beginning. Zefferelli in his production shows a distinct contrast in the outfits worn by the two individual, different families. Both Luhrman and Zefferelli use a stereotype view on the clothing. The 1993 policy did not strengthen communications between military members of varying sexual orientation, in essence if strengthened the barrier by avoiding the subject. A study discussed by Bonnie Moradi from the University of Florida revealed, sexual orientation concealment was correlated significantly and negatively with social cohesion (Moradi, ... Some of us had different racial backgrounds others didn t. Everyone was treated equally. The discussions never got heated and everyone learned something. We always stayed on topic. I didn t agree with everyone s views but I respectfully listened. They returned the favor giving me the opportunity to share my opinion. Everyone left class more knowledgeable than before. • 40. Evaluation Of A Non Independent Variable, Dependent... Methodology The design of the study revolves around three variables including an independent variable, a dependent variable, and a mediation variable; where the independent variable is the average number of hours a student studies per week, the dependent variable is the average restfulness of student s sleep, and the mediating variable is stress reaction. It is hypothesized that the average number of hours a student studies per week is associated to their positive sleep quality rating, where the higher number of hours of studying will predict a lower positive sleep quality rating. In addition, a student s stress reaction score measured by multidimensional personality questionnaire (MPQ) standards on stress reaction factor will act as a mediator on the student s sleep quality. A total of 278 participants aided in the formation of the data and statisticsof this study. This sample was chosen through a voluntary questionnaire given to Fall Semester 2016 Psychology300 students. It was a convenient sample to take from due to the high likelihood of most of the student s taking the survey. The questionnaire was administered through an online survey website termed Qualtrics. The incentive to take this questionnaire and complete it accurately was eight points worth of extra credit awarded to students who did so. Additionally, it was disclosed that students would be using the survey data for later project purposes and should answer truthfully to provide themselves with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Similarities Between The Spanish And English Colonies In 1492 The arrival of Christopher Columbus in the New World in 1492 began a new period of colonization lasting until 1763. In that time period, the Spanish and English rushed to claim, conquer, control, and colonize as much of North and South America as possible. Of course, two different countries resulted in two different methods of colonization as a result of the differing religions and systems of government. The small similarities and significant differences between the Spanish and English colonies in the New World were due to their systems of government and the influence of European leaders, differences in religion and religious importance, and their treatment of the indigenous peoples of the New World. In Massachusetts Bay, a governing board met in the colony led by John Winthrop and other Puritan leaders. This governing body was the first assembly that met in the colonies and wasn t influenced by Britain. Later on, the King of England would revoke all charters and create royal charters for all the colonies so each was under his direct control. He would assign a royal governor to each colony that would carry out his bidding. • 42. Cause And Effect Essay About Chicago Downtown Chicago is the pride of Chicago, a mask of beauty and culture. Magnificent views, amazing sky scrapers, wonderful land, the beautiful lake front and peaceful people are how most people who visit Downtown Chicago from a different location would probably describe Chicago. This is a place where children between the ages of thirteen through eighteen grow to discover their potential being and most likely get a sneak peek on how bright their future will be. However, we sometimes forget to mention how Chicagois one of the most devastating cities in the world today due to the crimes that occur in the streets of Chicago, mostly taking place on the Westside and Southside of Chicago every day. As we all know, Chicago was eventually named Chiraq... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason why I say this is because one of the key things I feel that makes Chicago so violent, is because most children and teenager s brains are not taught well that violence is not the way out to whatever situation they have going on in their lives. According to United States Department of Justice, Facts about Children and Violence, Children exposed to violence are also at a higher risk of engaging in criminal behavior later in life becoming part of a cycle of violence. Whatever they have experienced or been taught is how they will react to any situation which may just be violence or drugs and alcohol. That is why the murder rate from teenagers is so high because they feel the beats and lyrics in some of the music that they listen to and react how certain artists portray themselves and others in their songs. They probably feel as though this gives them the power to do anything they want to do far as killing people or selling drugs, much more because a lot of music artists today only talks about violence in their songs. While talking to children and a few camp counselor I learned that children feel intimidated when adults see them and don t speak so one of the things adults can do to stand up to help the environment is to engage more with one another and children to make the kids feel safe rather than on edge which can lead to ... • 43. La Farce de Maitre Pathelin- the character of Guillemette La Farce de Maitre Pierre Pathelin has been called a little masterpiece . In comparison to most earlier works of French medieval literature, it is highly complex in many aspects. In the words of Cazamian, a high level of artistic creation is reached. This essay will focus on Guillemette and study both her role in the play, and the complex nature of this character. Such a study should give the reader an idea of the plays high level of artistic creation , and also illustrate some of the many witty double meanings and underlying messages that are present right throughout the Farce. Although Guillemette appears in only four of the ten scenes of the Farce (according to the scene division in the modern French translation), she is much more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In scene V, a similar comparison can be made between the intelligence of Guillemette and that of the drapier. It is true that Guillemette has the advantage over the drapier in that she is at home and Pathelin is on her side against the drapier; but one would still assume that a crafty tradesman would be more quick witted than a simple housewife. Yet, as already noted above, Guillemette manages to completely outsmart and deceive the drapier, leaving him dumbfounded. In this scene, as in scenes I and III, Guillemette s cleverness is clear. So Guillemette comes across as more intelligent than the other main characters in the play; and, unlike them, she is not the victim of trickery. The result of this is that Guillemette is the character with whom the audience can identify with most closely. In a play such as the Farce, where there is no narrator, one of the characters often plays the role of an intermediary between the characters and the audience. Such a character encourages the audience to feel more involved in the play and to see it as a reflection of their own society. In the Farce and it is Guillemette who plays this role, and it is in this way that she is most important. At no point does she address the audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Summary Of The Miraculous Journey Of Edward Tulane I have read this book a couple times now, and the many complex things I have learned are unbearable. Every chapter is important to what the end of the story is going to be. I think this story of a china rabbit finding his way back home had more plot twists than I thought this story would have. The first lesson that I will tell you will be to never give up hope on love, but to always know that somebody will find room in their hearts for you. When you figure out what love is, your heart will grow even bigger. Love can bring together the love of others around them. But love can also bring effect on others that have not seen what love can do to them. Love is not the impact of how expensive your belongings are. Nothing is more expensive than the price of love. And that s one of the lessons that I have learned from the book that I have read. In the beginning I read pages 5 thru 7 where edward specifically said: The china rabbit was in possession of an extraordinary wardrobe composed of handmade silk suits, custom shoes fashioned from the finest leather and designed specifically for his rabbit feet, and a wide array of hats equipped with holes so that they could easily fit over edward s large and expressive ears. Each pair of well cut pants had a small pocket for Edward s gold pocket watch (Page 7) writing from the book The Miraculous Journey Of Edward Tulane. and when I read that paragraph, I thought to myself, that not what love is about, love is about the trust of others ... • 46. Erikson and Goffman on American Identity Essay When foreigners think of America, they think of McDonald s, the Statue of Liberty, Hollywood film stars, and the list goes on. In terms of Americans, people associate Texans with cowboy boats, Californians with surfboards, and New Yorkers with a snobbish grin on their face. It is true that all these things represent America in one way or another, but what exactly is American identity? Erikson s analysis on American identity has drawn attention to four topics: Mom, adolescent, boss, and machine. He links all four topics together by using the myth of John Henry Hero. Goffman, on the other hand, develops dramaturgical analysis to understand human behaviors. He sees men as actors with different roles and these actors have to perform to... John Henry left his parents because his parents fed the dogs before they fed him. Third, he left because he was sure that he could take care of himself. John Henry took into his grave believing that a man counts only as a man (Erikson, P. 299). Hence, in another point of view, he abandoned his parents just as Erikson says, it was the child who abandoned the mother, because he had been in such a hurry to become independent (Erikson, P.296).This abandonment also lead to another factor rejections to intimate feelings. Erikson finds not only the sorrow of having been abandoned but also the fear of committing to deep emotions (Erikson, P.301) in cowboys because there is a mental barrier in knowing that they have abandoned their mothers and have been abandoned by her. Cowboys, thus, are usually rather lonely people. Their job will not let them see their family nor their friends very often. They are the man without roots, the motherless man, the womenless man (Erikson, P.299). The nonsense folk songs offer a funny yet sarcastic view of cowboys life they are not bounded by relationships because they are not allowed to do so. This lifestyle, ... DEVELOPMENT AND COMPOSITION OF MIDDLE EAR STRUCTURES OF BALAENOPTEROIDS (CETACEA, MYSTICETI): IMPLICATIONS ON FOSSIL CETACEAN PALEOECOLOGY AND BIOLOGY KERR, Tyler J., University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY, United States, 82071 BACKGROUND Whales (Cetacea) are unique among mammals in that they possess exceptionally dense, pachyosteosclerotic tympanic bullae1. Along the margin of the bulla is a highly mineralized, extremely dense wall of bone called the involucrum that serves as a special adaptation to life in the sea and as a means to facilitate sound reception and directionality underwater2,3,4. Moreover, this cetacean synapomorphy plays an important role in distinguishing its members from the ancestral terrestrial artiodactyls from which whales diverged5. When cut into cross sections, the involucral region of the tympanic bullae in many mysticete (baleen whale) lineages reveals three easily distinguishable zones of concentric laminar growth. Here we hypothesize that these three distinct zones identified along the length of the tympanic bullae are capable of recording life history events during early development, when the cetacean tympanoperiotic region is known to be rapidly ossifying6. We propose that the innermost zone (1) represents rapid in utero growth, the intermediary zone (2) represents rapid birth and postnatal development, and the outermost zone (3), markedly thinner, represents slower, more lamellar development from weaning on through adulthood.
