Having already made films before I already knew how to use my
Canon 600D so I was comfortable having it on manual focus which
allowed me do pull focuses and keep a moving subject in focus.
I shot at 1920x1080 (Full HD wide screen) although I exported at
720. This was so I could stabilize my footage so there was not a drop
in resolution in that shot.
I used two different lenses a 25-105mm with IS for the tracking
shots. Also a 10-22mm wide angle, I used this in places that were
small that I wanted to appear bigger, the boot shot and the crack
den shots. This didn’t have IS so I needed to be really steady while
holding the camera.

I used my tripod for panning shots and still shot.
I used a very bad dolly for the slow track in shot, the wheels kept
sticking so it would jerk from side to side which made finding a
steady bit to put in the film very difficult.
I used a gorilla pod for shooting in thigh spaces. When shooting the
boot scene there was not enough room in the boot for a tripod so I
used it there. I has a spirit level so I could tell when the shot was
straight.
I made a dolly kind of thing out of a wheelbarrow for the crabbing
shots of the walking. I needed to do this as the school dolly was not
giving me the results I wanted. This proved to be much better that
the schools dolly and it had one big wheel so was maneuverable but
also worked well over rough terrane (roads)
• Sound

I originally shot sound on location with my Rode Video Mic on a
boom going straight into the camera. For some reason this didn’t
work and there was a lot of hissing. So I went out and re-recorded
the sound using my Zoom H4N recorder to get sounds of the boot
and door closing. I know to check that every thing is plugged in
properly next time.

I edited on Final Cut Pro X, I have used this before on other films I’ve made which meant I was
confortable editing on it so I didn’t have to spend time learning any thing massively new. I did watch
a few tutorials on how to edit sound as this is was was weakening my previous films.
To get a consistent look throughout my film I reduced the saturation on my clips. Fitting in with my
genre. I also did a bit of colour grading, changing the highlights etc.
I stabilized nearly all of my moving shots so they were really smooth to give it a higher production
value feel.
I used many new sound effects while editing this, to reduce hum, applying a low pass filter and
reducing the background hiss.
