2. Process
• This week I have begun work on my production. For
this I have started writing a script which I will give
myself and my actors an idea of what will be
happening during the story, however, the final
product may not follow the script exactly.
• I also started creating a shot list so I know exactly
what I need to get during my shoot and so I don’t
forget to film certain angles and shots. I feel like this
will be useful for me as it will help me stay more
organised during my shoot, rather than just following
the script.
3. Process
• This week I begun my shoot. I began to realise the difficulties with the
Heist genre when finding locations, as finding locations suitable for a bank
proved to be challenging. I ended up using the reception for a school as
my bank and dressed the location in order to make it believable as a bank.
• I also bought and acquired a selection of different props to make the
scenes in this location believable, particularly the police gear, to which I
bought some tactical vests and acquired some prop guns for the police
and the robbers to use.
• I managed to shoot everything I needed in the first location which is about
half of my film and my shoot went smoothly and successfully with all my
crew and actors working very professionally.
• Unfortunately I did encounter issues with my mic recorder where the
sound didn't record and as a result decided to use the original audio from
my footage for the entire film.
4. Process
• This week I finished off the shooting for my film in my remaining locations
which helped me gather the remaining footage for my short film. I also
took some photos which I will use to make some posters to go along with
my film.
• During these shoots I used a slow-motion feature on my camera in order
to make certain sequences more effective. This downscaled my footage to
1080p, as apposed to 4K which the rest of the film is shot in, however,
with some upscaling and colouring, it should still look fine.
• For the police chase sequence we were using prop guns outside, which
means there was a risk that the public may mistake the guns for real guns.
To avoid this I had people in high-vis vests, with signs saying "Filming in
process" at every entrance to the shoot location to make sure that
everyone knew that it was a film shoot, and not a real police chase.
5. Process
• For my final week of production I worked on editing my production.
For this I worked in Premier Pro for my short film and Photoshop for
my posters.
• Firstly in Premier Pro I started by stitching my footage together in
sequence so that it flowed from start to finish. This was the
beginning of my edit and is something I was doing after each shoot
in order to gradually piece together my short film.
• After I'd pieced together my edit I started editing the audio from
the footage. I overlapped some audio between clips in order to
make the sound flow smoother and I altered the volumes in order
to balance the levels.
6. Process
• The next step was to do the colouring for all of the footage to make it look
more cinematic and fit the feeling I want for the film. I did this in the
colour tab in Premier Pro which gave me all the tools I needed for
colouring. I started by correcting the footage, altering the temperature to
give the footage a cooler image to give the clinical, corporate feeling of a
bank and then by altering other settings such as whites and blacks,
highlights, and shadows until I had the image how I wanted it. I also
boosted the saturation slightly in order to make my film feel more
colourful.
• After colouring my film I composed the music for my film. I did this all
myself from scratch using Garage Band on the iPad, which I would then
use to replace template tracks I'd put in the edit in order to get a feel for
how the scene will play. Once I had created and exported the music, I then
replaced the template tracks with the actual tracks which I had timed to
the edit whilst creating the music to make sure it all played smoothly and
in time with each other.
