Fashion Imagery Research Paper
We have expressions which refer to the idea that we may experience time as subjectively happening at
different speeds. For example, A watched pot never boils. But, we generally take the view that,
objectively, an hour is an hour is an hour and all things move forward at the same pace.
Yet, in fiction, time passing at different rates is a relatively common concept. Perhaps this intrigues us
because of real world experiences which fit that concept in some sense.
When you look at signs and symbols, a common phenomenon is that imagery initially comes from real
world items in a relatively literal manner but, over time, the symbols are kept even though technology
moves on and the thing it refers to is no longer in use. Here are a couple of ... Show more content on

Particularly in recent years, comic book publishers have tended to adopt a model where each monthly
issue of the book in question is a single installment of a longer story arc; for instance, a six issue story
arc where Batman takes on the Joker may only equal one night in the actual passage of time. Despite
this, the story has taken up half a year of real time . This, naturally, is going to affect both how quickly
you can develop the overall narrative and how contemporary you can make it. However, all characters
in a universe tend to inhabit the same present , despite when they first appeared or how much time has

The Movie Industry
Xbox One vs. Playstation 4 Media
(Artifact paper)
Mario Palomino Student ID: 1760440 BUSB 340 Robert Liljenwall Due Date: February 23 2014
What hell is a Nintendo? I got my first video game console in the summer of 1991. My parents
purchased it from SEARS for my birthday and at which point I had no idea what it was. A couple of
the kids and their parents knew that it was and were shocked that my parents spend $100 dollars on
something like that. It was still in the box until one afternoon I came home from school. I set it up in
the living room, only room with a television. Popped in Super Mario Bros, this simple 8 bit game
would change the entertainment industry. I did not become a fanboy until I attend Florida A M.

PS4 only other competition is Nintendo s Wii U. Nintendo since GameCube focused more on younger
gamers because it could not keep up with the mature rating games that both Sony and Microsoft
released. With Nintendo taking a back step, PS4 only real competition was Xbox One. Playstation 4
has not looked back since their launch date. By early February 2014 they have sold over five million
units, compare to Xbox One three million units.
History of Microsoft s gaming console Late 2001 Microsoft took its first steps in the gaming industry.
They announced their first gaming console to the world Xbox. Not since 1996 has, an American
company offered a gaming console. By early 2002, Xbox completed with all of the sixth generation
console Nintendo s GameCube, Sega s Dreamcast and Sony s Playstation 2. In all honestly, Microsoft
only real threat was Sony s Playstation 2; as both consoles were designed for the advanced gamer.
With the launch of Xbox, Microsoft also ventures into the world of online gaming, with their service
Xbox Live. Unlike Sony s Playstation 2 and Sega s Dreamcast, Xbox Live charged a fee to play online
against players across the world and gave subscribers the ability to download gaming content to
gamers. Like the other two consoles, gamers were required to have their own broadband connection.
Before Xbox discontinued, it has sold 24 million units worldwide. Four later after the successful
launch of Xbox,

Hygroscopic Ionic Compounds Lab
Purpose of the Experiment Techniques: The purpose of this experiment is to see how hygroscopic
ionic compounds determine their water of hydration. Hygroscopic compounds are compounds that
have the tendency to absorb water vapor from the air. The technique used in this experiment is to find
out the difference of the mass of the hygroscopic ionic compound before and after heating the
compounds. The instruments used in this experiment is an analytical balance to ensure precision. In
order to use this balance, all the surrounding doors has to be closed. Then, check to see if the unit on
the screen is set to zero and displays the units in grams (g). After that, open the door and place the

Why I Choose French Language Course Essay
If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own
language, that goes to his heart, Nelson Mandela once declared. Nowadays there are over 6,500
languages in our world, but sadly the only 571 million, which is 8.3% of the world population are
second language speakers according to a research by Dr. Bernard Comrie s article for the Encarta
Encyclopedia (1998). The foreign language that I would like to learn besides English is French

used in the continental manner, this mean the fork in the left hand, prongs facing down and the knife

elbows on it. Those are some French food culture that I think we should learn from them.
Other fact that I have learned about French culture is they almost have a similar culture with Malaysia

Casablanca Film Analysis
Casablanca was released in 1942 by the director Michael Curtiz. The film was considered one of the
best motion pictures ever made. The film s multinational cast, strong emotions, and the love triangle
helped it become a classic film remembered for all time. The scene I will analyze is the last scene in
the film where Rick Blaine and Ilsa were saying their final goodbyes as an airplane was in the
background setting was one of the greatest scenes in the history of romantic films and the history of
cinema itself.
This scene had four main characters who were Rick Blaine played by Humphrey Bogart, Ilsa Lund
played by Ingrid Bergman, Victor Laszlo played by Paul Henreid, and Captain Louis Renault played
by Claude Rains. Rick Blaine was the owner of Rick s Café Américain. He appears in the whole film

that she is in love with Rick, back when they were in Paris and also after she arrived to Casablanca.
Her feelings are always dreamy and vague which makes it hard to understand what she wants. Ilsa
didn t had an easy life, and one of the greatest tragic in the whole film is her fate. Finally, at the
closing scene of the film, one can feel that the chances of Ilsa living happily ever after ending do not

Soundtrack To Music Research Paper
Why music is the soundtrack to life
Music is interpreted differently from around the world but to me, music is motivational and inspiring.
It s a way to express emotions and a language that cannot be put into words. Music creates an avenue
for empathy and a new understanding and it is part of my lifestyle. Music always gives you company
when you are bored or in the shower. It gives a meaning and purpose to life. Music is important
because it is the key to creativity.
Many creative geniuses such as Mozart and Albert Einstein showed us that listening to and creating
music, exercises one s creativity and intellect because it requires maximum right brain usage. Music
also brings people together whether it is a celebration or a formal occasion. ... Show more content on

In recent tests scientists found that music could reduce the perceived intensity of pain. It can also ease
stress before and after a patient has surgery. This is why many hospitals use musical therapy. Music
can additionally have good effects on your mood such as relieving stress, reducing symptoms of
anxiety and depression, and elevating your mood. It can help in high stress situations such as exams
and give you a better cognitive performance. When you go to the gym you will find that there is music
playing and this is usually because it improves running and biking motivation and increases workout
endurance. Additionally it can help your body recover faster after exercising. This is because it
enhances your blood vessel function. Other positive outcomes of music can include better memory,
helping people eat less and improved sleep quality. As well as positive physical effects there are also
positive emotional and mental effects of music. One of the most famous ones is the Mozart effect. If
somebody listens to Mozart s music they may likely have a short improvement on spatial temporal
reasoning. Spatial temporal reasoning is the ability to visualize the instruments played in a song and
the musical notation.
In conclusion, music is an important motivation for creativity and inspiration. It is a way we can
express ourselves without having to say anything, it is a hobby or a pastime.

My Favorite Dog
As a little kid, I had always feared dogs. Actually, I guess you could say I was scared to death of them.
I never knew why, but the moment I spotted one of those little, fluffy demons, I was running for my
life. Eight years old and caked with dirt from a Little League game I just finished, I headed over to the
car. Sloppy mud floating around in my shoe, I felt like I was walking around in a marsh. My dad was
driving the silver Toyota Matrix and playing one of his Rolling Stones albums, full blast, almost
stinging my ears. All the windows were open, letting the cool April air smack my face as I looked out
the window. It was refreshing, and my Saturday could not have gotten any better. My dad turned into
our long driveway and I turned to him in with confusion and asked, Where s mom? He stopped and
thought for and second, only to reply with, I don t know. Probably getting groceries. We walked down
our old, cracked driveway only to hear someone in the backyard. I listened hard for a second, but the
noise wasn t familiar to me. We started heading towards the gate, listening to the barking and
laughing, only to find this black blur of a thing running around and playing with a tennis ball. My
sister was overjoyed, giggling as though she had just inhaled a tank of laughing gas, and was running
around it. My knees began to wobble. The mud in my shoes didn t seem to bother me anymore. All
that bothered me was this thing playing in my backyard. I slowly twisted

I m A Social ( Network ) Drinker
Your identity is something that reflects your background and culture, and shows who you are. It s
something that is always changing as you meet new people, move to new places, or simply could just
change out of the blue. In the article I m a Social (network) Drinker: Alcohol Related Facebook Posts,
Drinking Identity, and Alcohol Use, the authors looked at the associations between social media and
alcohol use and how they affect our identity. Because we are all human,we are all trying to be
accepted by society, which causes people to shape their identities to the certain situation.
Drinking identity is a concept that I was rather unfamiliar with until this article. It is defined in this
study as a component of identity that is associated with heavier drinking and more negative alcohol
related consequences (107). Drinking identity is basically how alcohol affects your way of living.
Everyone s drinking identities are different because it is based on how much we drink, what we drink,
how often, etc. Drinking identity is used in this study to determine if people with higher drinking
identities post more on social media, or are more open with their drinking, whereas people with lower
drinking identities would post less.
The authors started this study off by getting access to 109 undergraduate students, dominantly
female, who were all pulled from their psychology class and offered credit for doing this experiment.

Ajanta and Ellora are the pride of Maharashtra
INTRO
Ajanta and Ellora are the pride of Maharashtra. The rock cut caves of both these sites are world
famous and illustrate the degree of skill and artistry that Indian craftsmen had achieved several
hundred years ago. Ajanta dates from 100 B.C. while Ellora is younger by some 600 years. The village
of Ajanta is in the Sahyadri hills, about 99 kms. From Aurangabad; a few miles away in a mammoth
horseshoe formed rock, are 30 caves overlooking a gorge, `each forming a room in the hill and some
with inner rooms. Al these have been carved out of solid rock with little more than a hammer and

A first group of caves was created in the 2nd century BC: the chaitya grihas open into the rock wall by
doorways surmounted by a horse shoe shaped bay. The ground plan is a basilical one: piers separate
the principal nave from the side aisles which join in the apsis to permit the ritual circumambulation
behind the (commemorative monument). This rupestral architecture scrupulously reproduces the
forms and elements visible in wooden constructions.
According to Spink (2006), the first phase was the construction of sanctuaries (known as chaytia
grihas) built during the period 100 BCE to 100 CE, probably under the patronage of the Satavahana
dynasty (230 BCE c. 220 CE) in the canyons of the Waghora River. The caves 9, 10, 12 and 15A were
constructed during this period.[5] Murals preserved from this time belong to the oldest monuments of
painted art in India.

A second group of caves was created at a later date, the 5th and 6th centuries AD, during the Gupta
and post Gupta periods. These caves were excavated during the supremacy of the Vakatakas and
Guptas. According to inscriptions, Varahadeva, the minister of the Vakataka king, Harishena (c. AD

Effects Of Reading Instruction On The Literacy Development...
The Effects of Reading Instruction on Students of Low Socioeconomic Status
Amelia K.L. Reynolds
Edmond, Oklahoma
Abstract
This paper explores related research in aspects of language acquisition, specifically, reading
instruction and its effect on students who live in low socioeconomic environments. We will review the
methods of explicit phonics and whole language to examine what, if any, is the more advantageous
method of reading instruction for students who live in poverty. The purpose of this literature review is
to investigate the impacts of specific reading instruction on the literacy development of children and
how socioeconomics restricts these impacts. The research reviewed was collected from peer review
journals using the Central Search feature on the UCO Chambers Library website. The majority of the
researcher s findings came from EBSCOhost Education Research Complete and JSTOR: Journal
Storage. Given the findings of this literature review, research suggests that explicit phonics
instruction, when embedded in a whole language classroom, promotes growth in literacy skills among
young children. Research suggests that multisensory phonics, based on Orton Gillingham Approach,
promotes literacy growth for students who are at risk, however, its impact within a whole language
classroom are undetermined. This literature review suggests that multisensory phonics should be
utilized in a whole language classroom to determine if its use promotes growth in

An Analysis Of Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants...
In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating
psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about a
line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds with
the comment I ve never seen one.
The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no one
wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. It is an interesting opening to a very strained
conversation concerning an apparent pregnancy, and the man s wish to terminate it. The couple s
careful avoidance of actually naming the problem, or the proposed solution, suggests the situation in
which a mate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an interesting note, the name wormwood derives from the German word Wermut, which translates
as grievous in the English language.
The man s response to her bitterness is one of irritation and he snaps at her, whereupon she promptly
blames him for his lack of appreciation for her clever metaphor about the white hills; referring , most
likely, to his distracted attitude. It seems likely she is accustomed to him complimenting her for her
intelligence and wit, which is now not happening due to his worry over her pregnancy. He again
placates her, this time by agreeing the metaphor was a bright comparison.
When she softens her reference to the hill with an explanation, he makes small talk for a moment, then
launches into his campaign to convince her of the banality of an abortion. At this point, Hemingway
inserts her name, which suggests empathy for the girl s position. By giving her a name, while leaving
the man without one, the reader might find her to be a more personalized character. She has a name,
which in human society is a symbol of individuality and importance, while someone that

The VoIP Adoption at Butler University
What were the primary reasons for changing the current system at Butler?
The primary reason that Butler University decided to change their current system was due to the fact
that their original provider was not fulfilling the university s needs. Butler had originally used Centrex
as their service provider. Centrex, being an older system, could not provide Butler University with the
modern, more up to date features that they needed. The Centrex system was based on features that
were over a decade old, and customizing this system was done easily by any means. Butler began to
expand and certain departments began to expand. This caused issues with the current Centrex system

The main objectives of the pilot program were to test the new features and to gain feedback from
people using the new system. Six weeks before the new system went live, Butler set up 40 phones
with department coordinators and high level staff to test the new system. Over three weeks they tested
the system and gathered information to help improve the system if need by. The overall goal of the
pilot program was to gain buy in from the user community . Obviously when establishing a new
program, there is bound to be some problems and bugs. For instance, Butler encountered a software
bug that caused immense stress to the staff and the system developers. Some of the issues caused by
the software bug were random server reboots, lost phone numbers, voicemail malfunctions, and a
problem with all of the multiline phones.
Do you think Butler made the right decision to utilize this new technology? What implications does
this decision hold for Butler s IT department in the long run?
Yes I believe that Butler made the right decision to utilize this new technology. The system that they
were using before was outdated and was not performing to the standards that Butler needed. The VoIP
system that Butler decided to implement was a great decision to help improve the features that the
Centrex system before lacked in. Although the VoIP system they established was a great idea, it was
rather expensive compared to the Centrex system they were running before.

Automobile Theft Is A Crime
Most time people don t think about what crimes they are committing like motor vehicle theft, larceny
and theft and robbery. Each of the crimes is serious, but some people don t understand the
consequence of what they could be up against. Automobile theft is a felony which you could face up
to one or more years in prison. Robbery is a crime that happens every day and usually deals with
someone intentionally taking something from a store or a person.
Larceny and Theft is another crime that is similar to robbery, but it is a more serious crime that it is
unlawful to take constructive possession of another person s personal property.
Motor Vehicle thefts can be easily done by a professional who knows how to hi jack cars. The most
common mistake why some cars are easily stolen is that people leave their doors unlocked. For
example most people go into convince stores and leave their car running which is an easy way for a
car to be stolen. There are certain vehicles that cannot be considered as automobile theft as in farm
equipment because it isn t registered with the DMV. According to the FBI (UCR) they consider that a
vehicle is only to run on land not rails .In 2010 there was an estimated amount that there were 737,142

The First Theory Of Development
1. The first theory of development I chose was the psychoanalytic theory, more specifically Erikson s
psychosocial theory. I feel that this is an aspect of my development primarily from infancy through my
early childhood. Erikson believed that throughout different stages of life we have different stages to
conquer. When we are first born as infants we must battle trust versus mistrust. This was especially
relevant in my life as a child because I did not like to be held by other people other than my parents.
There are several home videos of me hiding behind my mom, dad, or other close family members.
This impacted me through the next stages of my development, and I feel is still a major reason why I
am so shy and introverted. Erikson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, like the psychosocial theory, that had a slight unconscious effect on my personality, Skinner s
operant conditioning could most clearly explain my behavior now. My parents were very fond of
positive and negative reinforcement. They often spanked us as a child, which they used as a positive
reinforcement to negate my bad behavior, such as flushing Legos down the toilet. My parents used

that both of Heidi s parents are the biological parents of Heidi, because of this Heidi has been given

inclined to cook and really enjoys it. Heidi s parents are therefore molding Heidi s enjoyment by
reinforcing it with an easy bake oven. They also take time to show Heidi the proper way to cook, and
how to love cooking. Due to Heidi s predispositions to cook and her parents loving and caring nature,
Heidi will most likely learn to love cooking and become very good at it. 2b. In Rontre s life, an active

Winston Smith From Spongebob Squarepants
Intro Essay I am sure that everyone, at least once, has compared themselves to a character from their
favorite literary work or movie. Oftentimes parallels can be, and are drawn between the audience
members and the characters on the page or screen. Other times people contrast themselves to
characters, pointing out the stark differences between their real world lives and the high adventure
thrills of the life of the character in question. In this essay,I will compare myself to the personalities of
Winston Smith from 1984, putting focus on our shared inquisitive and skeptical nature, as well as that
of Spongebob Squarepants, with his cheerful disposition and sense of childlike wonder. And finally, I
will be comparing myself with Russell, the kid from UP. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the book progresses we see Winston gradually growing more and more doubtful that his dystopian
environment is the way things should be. He is seen searching for the truth and is always weary about
what may lie ahead. Although I do not ask questions on the same grand scale as Winston, I do have a
naturally inquisitive, and somewhat skeptical nature. I find myself interested in the most abstract and
bizarre concepts, sometimes relating to the possibility of time travel through quantum particles, and
other times something as trivial as movie trivia. Despite my desire to learn new concepts and ideas, I
can often times lose interest in things I have trouble understanding. This is where I believe Winston
and I share some common ground. We are both incredibly curious and at the same time held back by
skepticism of the

Motor Vehicle Collisions On Urban Roads
The purpose of this research is to minimize the deadly motor vehicle collisions on urban highways and
rural roads. Sometimes a car wreck is a tragedy. The death toll globally was 41,059 in 2007 caused by
traffic crashes. In 2005, motor vehicle collisions were the leading cause of death from the ages of 3 to
34 years old. Almost everyone in today s world utilizes some type of transportation to travel from one
destination to another. Therefore, this research will examine the root cause and common cause of car
crashes that occur on the traveling roads in Minnesota since 2005 (DHS, 2016). It is crucial to
examine the contributing factors that leads to the motor vehicle crash such as failure of the brake
system or speeding. Because some drivers

My AP Calculus Class
When I was growing up I always did well in my math classes in comparison to my other classes.
Students have said He only does well because he s Asian. ; others said He s just naturally smart
compared to the other students . In reality, I was just extremely interested in math and spent most of
my time wanting to study and understand the subject compared to science and reading. Whenever I am
in a math class, whether it was my Algebra I class or my AP Calculus class, I am constantly thinking
to myself How were these mathematicians able to correlate how certain numbers had some type of
relationship with a figure or equation such as the Pythagorean Theorem ? When I am in another class,
like my English or AP Government class, my mind tends to stray away from taking notes or doing my
assignment because I am always thinking about numbers and certain equations and how they are able
to be applied into the real world.
Math is engaging because of how difficult every new concept you learn is and how I had to struggle so

the novel when he is curious to know what death would be like. When fight club was in the first days

Genetically Modified Organisms And Stem-Food Report
With reference to a recent news report analyse how genetically modified products are created and
evaluate the use of stem cells to combat disease.
Genetic modification is the manipulation of DNA in an organism. It involves extracting a gene from
one organism then inserting it into another organism that is usually of a different species but can be
the same. The genes can also be manufactured instead of being extracted from the organism. Genetic
modification can be done to plants, animals and even food. Genetically modified products can benefit
humans in many ways such as genetically modified plants can be used to reduce vitamin deficiency
(CGP A2 Level Biology Revision Guide, 2009).
In 2005, UK scientists developed a new strain of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, the agrobacterium tumefaciens insert the genes into the plant cells DNA which then creates
transformed rice plant cells. Now the rice plant cells grow on a selective medium. Only the
transformed rice plants will be able to grow due to them containing the marker gene which is needed
to grow on this medium (CGP A2 Level Biology Revision Guide, 2009).
Although golden rice is great in the way it helps with a vitamin A deficiency and in reducing colour
blindness, there are disadvantages, such as there are concerns that food from genetically modified
plants might harm people and fears that it could cross breed with and contaminate wild rice (BBC
Bitesize, 2017).
Evaluation of stem cells and other methods of genetic modification.
Stem cells are unspecialized cells which can develop into any cell. Stem cells then divide to become
specialized through a process called differentiation. Stem cells in humans are found in early embryos
and in a few places in adults (CGP AS Level Biology Revision Guide, 2008). Stem cells are found in
every human body in limited amounts and can be taken from adult tissues without harm (Thought Co,
2017).
The two main types of stem cells are embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. Most embryonic stem
cells are from IVF clinics that have been donated for research purposes with informed consent from
the donors. They do not come from fertilized eggs in a woman s body.

The Historical Accuracy of Henry V by William Shakespeare...
The Historical Accuracy of Henry V
Henry V, written by William Shakespeare, is by far one of his more historically accurate plays. This
play is the life of young King Henry V, who ascended to the throne after his father, Henry IV s death.
These times were much different for England, as Henry V was a noble lord whom everyone loved,
whereas angry factions haunted his father s reign. Shakespeare portrays a fairly accurate account of
the historical Henry V, but certain parts are either inflated deflated, or conflated to dramatize Henry V
as a character suitable for a Renaissance audience.

Theme Of Prejudice In 12 Angry Men
Back in 1957 MGM released a film directed by Sidney Lumet that is considered a masterpiece today
same as it was back then. There is a very good reason for that, this film has aged very well. It deals
with the same topics we have to deal with in today s society. Today it seems people are just as divided
as they were in the 50 s. That is what 12 Angry Men does so well, it handles the topic of prejudice.
How does it show this? 12 Angry Men shows us different jurors with different prejudices that are
revealed through their attitudes, beliefs, and words.
It is easy to spot prejudice through attitude because of the way they act around or talking about the
person or a community they have a prejudice about. Prejudice is an unjustified or incorrect attitude
(usually negative) towards an individual based solely on the individual s membership of a social group
(McLeod 1). In the film almost, everyone is ready to sentence an eighteen year old boy to death for
murder. Most do this just because of the evidence, but jurors three and ten have different attitudes
about the situation. Juror three has a different attitude because of his son and the relationship he
created there. He abused his son and now he has left him, the guilt he has is more than apparent
through his anger. Juror ten also shows anger and it is not apparent as to why until later when he starts
speaking.
The beliefs of the individual characters can say a lot about them because it reinforces their prejudices.

Rhetorical Devices In Ebb And Flow By Edward Taylor
Edward Taylor was one of the most famous poets born in England. Taylor was influenced to write by
religion, and it s evident in his poem Ebb and Flow . Taylor illustrates, through the use of rhetorical
devices, the fear that the fire inside his heart has burned out, and the hope that, through God s grace,
his affections will be ignited once again. Taylor uses the rhetorical device of diction to illustrate how
the fire in his heart is slowly burning out. At first in the poem, Taylor has a strong connection to God.
In the first line, Taylor says, When first Thou on me, Lord, wroughtest Thy sweet print, (Taylor). In
this line it s made clear that Taylor is engaged by God s love and authority. Then in verse two, Taylor

However, this time, he uses direct evidence and sources. He uses data from the New York Times,
stating that changing the headline of an article can increase readership of articles by up to 1,677%.
This is a huge number, and plays on astonishment, as you wouldn t expect the number to be so high. It
also plays on logic, however, as it s understandable that the headline is so important. After all, the
headline is the first thing you see, and is the deciding factor on whether or not you click on the article,
so it makes sense for it to be significant to the number of reads on an article. Using a credible source
also establishes Bariso s credibility, as he has done research on this topic. By the end of his article,
Bariso wraps up his argument, stating just how important the headlines are. He does address the
counter argument slightly, which adds to his own argument. He states that the only problem with
clickbait is when the article itself doesn t live up to its name. Clickbait is only worth it, in his eyes, if
the article itself has quality content. If not, he agrees with the opposing viewpoint that clickbait is
rightfully frustrating for readers. After wrapping up his argument, Bariso makes another reference to
Seinfeld, and specifically towards the nemesis he spoke of earlier. Take that, Newman. This creates a
humorous ending, giving you a laugh at

and Virtual Laboratory is also one of the ODL tool. It makes no difference for students to either

need to go to physical laboratories to do the experiment. They can conduct it at anywhere and anytime

The Hobbit, Or There And Back Again Essay
The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, is a high fantasy novel written by JRR Tolkien and published in
the year 1937. Spanning a proper 300 pages it contains an adventure of grand proportions; detailing
the exploits of one Bilbo Baggins and his attempts in aiding a band of 13 dwarves to reclaim a lost

adult like themes and motifs such as conflict between different races and the corrupting factor of

trilogy of which The Hobbit is a prequel.
Furthermore it is crucial to know of Joseph Campbell and his ideas of the monomyth. The late Joseph
Campbell was described as an American mythologist having laid the groundwork in both
contemporary comparative mythology and comparative religion. Campbell s work is extensive and
intersects many attributes of the human experience. It is distinctly Campbell s efforts in generating his
monomyth concept which interest many today. The monomyth concept recognizes all myth based
works as being a ploy on one form or original story. This is due to common patterns incorporated in a
vast majority of myth based works inattentive of time and place of origin. This original story
incorporates a hero s call to adventure, his or hers crossing of a threshold, their dealings within a

Motivation is the key to the human mind, and its survival. In the Shakespearian tragedy
Othello, Iago s mind is perhaps the most perplexing of them all. However, his reason is not completely

elements to his motivation are his sense of supremacy and superiority, his own perceived status versus
his inferiority, and the lifestyle and privileges afforded to him from the power structures of society.

The Debate Over Open Carry Of Handguns

Supreme Court s decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller and in McDonald v. City of Chicago

bear arms. The National Rifle Association (NRA), the powerful lobby against gun control, believes
that human will still use their gun responsibly if there is no law (National Rifle...); however, the
people who do not support open carry argue that gun control can decrease the risk of crime and also
stop the potential to serial shooters to occur. Since gun control has become a controversial issue in
American politics, people might wonder the Second Amendment is about individual or collective

Androids And Blade Runner Essay
Androids/Blade Runner Plot Philip K. Dick s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (1968) is a dark
Science Fiction novel illustrating a future of android slavery on Mars and a post World War III Earth.
Rick Deckard is a Blade Runner assigned to retire the androids that escape to Earth. Working for the
San Francisco Police Department, he tracks down and retires all of the Androids previously assigned
to the Chief Bounty Hunter, Dave Holden. Along the way he faces several internal battles about his
personal life and empathizing with Androids. Ridley Scott s 1982 adaptation Blade Runner does not
follow the novel exactly. Instead of focusing more on the ideology of what is human and Mercerism,
Blade Runner is about the chasing and retiring of these androids. Doing this makes it easier to film
and produce an action movie, but there are several plot points that had to be change to accommodate
to the new theme. The first plot point to be changed was in the beginning, when ... Show more content

He was grabbing a bite to eat when being stopped by two police officers, saying Captain Bryant sent
them there to arrest him. After a series of shot reverse shots between Rick, the police officer, and the
food worker, there is a longshot of Deckard getting into the police car. As it flies away, the viewer is
met with a low angle shot of the police cruiser flying along with non diegetic music for the futuristic
appeal. Then several moving wide shots capture the mis en scene of Los Angeles in 2021 with the
dark rainy street. Once in the police station, there is a medium shot of Deckard barging into Bryant s
office. The rest of the scene is comprised of shot reverse shots between Deckard and Bryant. The main
plot difference in this scene is Bryant asking Deckard to come back, portraying him as an
accomplished Blade Runner who is already quit. It takes some convincing but Deckard eventually

Homeland Security Department and the Importance of...
Homeland security is a state agency that is entrusted with ensuring that the local population within the
USA borders is all safe at all times and this includes adequate preparation for any emergency, safety of
each member of the community during and after an emergency. The jurisdiction of the Homeland
security is quite wide, ranging from border security, aviation safety, emergency response, cyber
security as well as chemical facility safety among many others. There are a wide range of duties
within this department. But the goal is one, that of keeping America safe (U.S Department of
Homeland Security, 2011). This has been and will continue to be one of the core concerns of America
in the next five or so years. Without the safety of the American population during disasters, then the
homeland security shall have failed in executing their duties.
To advance the aspect of homeland security, the department has and will continue to implement
internal measures like Homeland security department through Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) has undertaken to develop a matrix that guides employers at work places that
would significantly reduce their vulnerability to terrorist attacks as well as reduce the effect of the
explosion if any arises hence increasing the internal security of each employee within the premises
(Counter Terrorism, 2011).
The homeland security department has also undertaken to educate people about disasters and how to

Wilde Case Summary
Wilde V. City of Normal The new ordinance regulating short term rentals violates Ima Liddle Wilde
right to due process, and right of contract protected under the 14th Amendment. Normal, Illinois s city
ordinance makes the historic 3 story Victorian property valueless, and resulted in a taking of her
property violating the taking clause of the 5th amendment, while also violating her right to contract
with fellow citizen. In Lucas V. South Carolina costal council of 1992, Justice Antonin Scalia delivers
the court s opinion stating sacrifice all economically beneficial uses in the name of the common good,
that is, to leave his property economically idle, he has suffered a taking... (Lucas 1234). ... Show more

v. Parrish states The constitution does not recognize an absolute and uncontrollable liberty (Parrish
301) and that laws are required to safe guard the health, safety, and welfare of the people. If the city
can show a clear benefits the ordinance will have on the community, then liberty of contract argument
is not applicable to this case. In Muller v. Oregon (1908) in the opinion Justice Brewer states that the
state can restrict a person s right of contract without violating the 14th amendment provisions, and
again mentioning that contracts are not absolute and extending to all contracts . (Oregon 298) In this
case restrictions are only placed on rentals shorter than 30 days and requires the owner to reside in the
house. Even with the limitations placed on Ms. Wilde the property still has value, such as selling the
property or renting it longer than 30 days at a time. Justice Blackmun in dissenting in the Lucas case,
states the petitioner still can enjoy other attributes of ownership, such as the right to exclude others
(Lucas 1237). Because the property still has economic productivity, albeit with some regulation the
ordinance does not invoke a taking. In Nolan v. California Coastal Commission (1987) the Essential
Nexus was established, meaning a conditional permit may be constitutional if the owner is Page

Uses And Limitations Of Biosensors
Detecting bacteria is a rapidly expanding field of research, producing innovative and effective ways of
overcoming a variety of existing limitations. Current laboratory based bacterial detection and
identification techniques often require long procedures, provide low sensitivity and specificity as well
as slow turnaround times. These conventional techniques include microscopy, culturing bacteria,
polymerase chain reactions (PCR) and biochemical assays.
There is a heavy emphasis on developing new biosensors to overcome these prominent drawbacks. An
ideal biosensor would provide a detection sensitivity less than 103 CFU/ml within minutes,
distinguish between serotypes of bacteria in complex environments, be compact and portable, require

These methods allow for quantitative and kinetic measurements of interactions and often measure
refractive index changes, which determines the sample concentration or surface density. [7]
Traditionally, label free techniques were not highly sensitive due to the lack of signal amplification
which would be provided by a label. However, there have been advancements in this field that will be
discussed which have provided label free biosensors with high sensitivities.
For specific sensing applications, it is desirable to have the bacterial detection sensor immobilized
rather than suspended in solutions. Immobilisation allows the static sensor component to be washed
and re used, thus decreasing the long term cost to the user. These sensor surfaces are commonly
designed to resist fouling and non specific interactions, as well as provide a permanent attachment of
the sensing components without negating the sensing capabilities. Without immobilization of the
sensing components, the systems often leave the sample contaminated with the sensing components.
Depending on the hazard levels and toxicity of the sample post detection, it could require waste
disposal protocols which are inconvenient, expensive and reduce the probability of wide scale
implementation of the detection method. To counter this setback, a number of optical bacterial

Retail Environmental Factors That Influence Consumer...
Introduction
Consumer buying behavior has became great interest to the marketing researches (Ali Hasnu 2013, p.
1). Understanding the consumer buying behavior unable the mall managers plan effective marketing
strategies. Researchers have identified number of different factors that influence consumer buying
behavior. Retail environmental factors is one of these factors. This literature review seeks to identify
the retail environmental factors that influence consumer buying behavior. The structure of this
literature review is as follows. Firstly, the review describes the search process for the relevant studies.
Following this, the review then explains the studies thematic analysis. Finally, the review provides an
overall discussion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, a manual search was conducted in order to find other relevant studies and, from this
process, 2 studies was found relevant. Overall, 9 studies were included in this review.
Thematic analysis
After a process of individual analysis of the selected studies, the articles were grouped together
according to recurrent themes that emerged from the findings. In this literature review, three major
themes were identified which include; window displays, music and shop crowding.
Finding
Window displays
In relation to window display, three studies reported that there is a positive relationship between
consumers buying behavior and window display (Ali Hasnu 2013, Karbasivar Yarahmadi 2011 and
Tendai Crispen 2009). According to Ali Hasnu (2013, p.7) consumers buying decision is influenced by
the physical attractiveness of store displays. Consumers develop their first impressions by the store
displays which emotionally attract them to the product and buy that product (Ali Hasnu 2013, p.7).
Similarly, Tendai Crispen (2009, p. 107) reported that attractive window displays increases sales as
consumers purchase unplanned products. Moreover, the finding of Karbasivar Yarahmadi (2011) study
indicated that window display has strong effect on encouraging consumers to buying more and
enjoying their shopping time. In order to trigger shopping among consumers, store managers must
ensure attractive store displays (Ali Hasnu 2013, p. 7).

The On Balancing The Environment
Balancing the Environment Does the implementation of government policies in order to decrease
negative environmental effects violate individual rights? Immanuel Kant one of the most recognized
names in deontological theory proposed a theory that is based on determining if you are using
someone or something as a means or an end. In essence stating that in order for a decision to be made
one must take into account whether a person is being manipulated against their consent or they are
being foster towards an equally beneficial end (O Neill, 1993). One could say it is everyone s duty to
push the government to introduce policies to decrease negative environmental impacts in order to
sustain a healthy and inhabitable environment for the future. Yet this raises the question, how does one
determine this is their duty and is this being forced against one s will with no substantial benefit?
While others may argue that to protect the planet is the duty of all people. The term deontology comes
from the Greek word deon, meaning duty. The theory of deontology states we are morally obligated to
act in accordance with a certain set of principles and rules regardless of outcome (Shakil, n.a).
Immanuel Kant expanded on this theory and introduced what has come to be known as Kantian
Deontology. Kantian Deontology proposes, no one rational or autonomous creature should be treated
as mere means for the enjoyment or even the happiness of another. (O Neil, 1993). Therefore, no

The Differences Of Aztecs And Mayan Civilizations
Aztecs and Mayans were the biggest civilizations in Mesoamerica. They are known for having mass
amounts of knowledge in subjects like astronomy, mathematics, agriculture and architecture. These
two civilizations have their own creation myth: Mayas have Popol Vuh, while Aztecs have Mito de los
Cinco Soles. Both works have given an insight on their culture s values, ways of living and beliefs.
However, when the Spanish came to America most of the books containing essential information of
these civilizations were destroyed. Some of the written works that were rescued pertained to both:
Mesoamerican and Spanish authors. The Mayan and Aztec works Chilam Balam and Presagios según
los informantes de Sahagún describe Spanish brutality and abuses, defining them as violent. In
contrast Spanish works Segunda Carta de Relación de Hernán Cortes and Carta de Pedro de Alvarado
justify Spanish actions against Mesoamerica s civilizations by portraying their own leaders as saviors.
Spanish and Mesoamerican civilizations texts show contradictory points of view towards the conquest,
creating skepticism on what really happened during that time.
Popol Vuh and Mito de los Cinco Soles are relevant texts because they emphasize the importance of
sacrifice in their culture. The Mayan book, Popol Vuh, is a broad text that contains the myths of earth,
humanity, and life creation; as well as it emphasizes the influence deities had in their life. The Hero
Twins myth found in the book

  • 2. Fashion Imagery Research Paper We have expressions which refer to the idea that we may experience time as subjectively happening at different speeds. For example, A watched pot never boils. But, we generally take the view that, objectively, an hour is an hour is an hour and all things move forward at the same pace. Yet, in fiction, time passing at different rates is a relatively common concept. Perhaps this intrigues us because of real world experiences which fit that concept in some sense. When you look at signs and symbols, a common phenomenon is that imagery initially comes from real world items in a relatively literal manner but, over time, the symbols are kept even though technology moves on and the thing it refers to is no longer in use. Reynolds Edmond, Oklahoma Abstract This paper explores related research in aspects of language acquisition, specifically, reading instruction and its effect on students who live in low socioeconomic environments. We will review the methods of explicit phonics and whole language to examine what, if any, is the more advantageous method of reading instruction for students who live in poverty. The purpose of this literature review is to investigate the impacts of specific reading instruction on the literacy development of children and how socioeconomics restricts these impacts. The research reviewed was collected from peer review journals using the Central Search feature on the UCO Chambers Library website. The majority of the researcher s findings came from EBSCOhost Education Research Complete and JSTOR: Journal Storage. Given the findings of this literature review, research suggests that explicit phonics instruction, when embedded in a whole language classroom, promotes growth in literacy skills among young children. Research suggests that multisensory phonics, based on Orton Gillingham Approach, promotes literacy growth for students who are at risk, however, its impact within a whole language classroom are undetermined. In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about a line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds with the comment I ve never seen one. The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no one wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. It seems likely she is accustomed to him complimenting her for her intelligence and wit, which is now not happening due to his worry over her pregnancy. He again placates her, this time by agreeing the metaphor was a bright comparison. When she softens her reference to the hill with an explanation, he makes small talk for a moment, then launches into his campaign to convince her of the banality of an abortion. At this point, Hemingway inserts her name, which suggests empathy for the girl s position. I feel that this is an aspect of my development primarily from infancy through my early childhood. Erikson believed that throughout different stages of life we have different stages to conquer. When we are first born as infants we must battle trust versus mistrust. This was especially relevant in my life as a child because I did not like to be held by other people other than my parents. My parents used negative reinforcement, such as taking the TV away, as well. These methods are ultimately how my parents behaviorally shaped me growing up, and even to some extent now. 2a. Resulting from the unrealistic beauty standards promoted by advertisements she saw every day, she was never proud of her own body. And tragically, at only eighteen years of age, she committed suicide. Sadly, Hannah was not alone in the pressures she felt about not being perfect like the models she saw on television. In fact, teenagers and children nationwide are being influenced by advertising in negative ways. Advertisements are promoting flawlessness in women that does not exist, unhealthy eating habits, and the idea that happiness must be bought. Teenagers feel self conscious about their bodies because of advertising. The average ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, a recent study on materialism said, children who watch a lot of commercials attach more value to money and things, and, ...believe that happiness can be bought (Opree). Children are more susceptible to being influenced by the advertisements they see. Therefore, advertisements aimed at adolescents often feature expensive toys and brands that appeal to children and cause them to want to purchase the items. The children also examine how delighted the people in the advertisements look with the products, and that makes them believe that they must buy their happiness. Another study shows that people will, ...establish buying habits they will carry into adulthood (Day, Nancy). Basically, when children identify advertisements for popular items, they will begin to purchase the items and become loyal to those brands. These could be expensive brands that will influence their other purchases, making them think that if one item they purchase is expensive, then their other purchases must be expensive as well. Wanting their lives to be on the level of the expensive brands they own, consumers are becoming more and more materialistic. While there are some positive things about advertising, the negatives are far more destructive. • 40. The Debate Over Open Carry Of Handguns In recent years, open carry of handguns has become the controversial issue in America since the Supreme Court s decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller and in McDonald v. City of Chicago advocated protecting the Second Amendment (MELTZER). More and more states have allowed certain forms of open carry law for handguns, but Texas is one of few states that prohibit outright any open carry of guns (GRIEDER). The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The people who support the open carry law point out that bans on gun are against the Second Amendment, which established the right for every citizen to keep and bear arms. The National Rifle Association (NRA), the powerful lobby against gun control, believes that human will still use their gun responsibly if there is no law (National Rifle...); however, the people who do not support open carry argue that gun control can decrease the risk of crime and also stop the potential to serial shooters to occur. Since gun control has become a controversial issue in American politics, people might wonder the Second Amendment is about individual or collective right? However, in the book by the author Saul Cornell, A Well Regulated Militia: The Founding Fathers and the Origins of Gun Control in America, explained the historical evolution of guns right and the idea of individual ... • 42. Androids And Blade Runner Essay Androids/Blade Runner Plot Philip K. Dick s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (1968) is a dark Science Fiction novel illustrating a future of android slavery on Mars and a post World War III Earth. Rick Deckard is a Blade Runner assigned to retire the androids that escape to Earth. Working for the San Francisco Police Department, he tracks down and retires all of the Androids previously assigned to the Chief Bounty Hunter, Dave Holden. Along the way he faces several internal battles about his personal life and empathizing with Androids. Ridley Scott s 1982 adaptation Blade Runner does not follow the novel exactly. Instead of focusing more on the ideology of what is human and Mercerism, Blade Runner is about the chasing and retiring of these androids. Doing this makes it easier to film and produce an action movie, but there are several plot points that had to be change to accommodate to the new theme. Normal, Illinois s city ordinance makes the historic 3 story Victorian property valueless, and resulted in a taking of her property violating the taking clause of the 5th amendment, while also violating her right to contract with fellow citizen. Parrish states The constitution does not recognize an absolute and uncontrollable liberty (Parrish 301) and that laws are required to safe guard the health, safety, and welfare of the people. If the city can show a clear benefits the ordinance will have on the community, then liberty of contract argument is not applicable to this case. In Muller v. Oregon (1908) in the opinion Justice Brewer states that the state can restrict a person s right of contract without violating the 14th amendment provisions, and again mentioning that contracts are not absolute and extending to all contracts . (Oregon 298) In this case restrictions are only placed on rentals shorter than 30 days and requires the owner to reside in the house. Even with the limitations placed on Ms. Wilde the property still has value, such as selling the property or renting it longer than 30 days at a time. Justice Blackmun in dissenting in the Lucas case, states the petitioner still can enjoy other attributes of ownership, such as the right to exclude others (Lucas 1237). • 45. Uses And Limitations Of Biosensors Detecting bacteria is a rapidly expanding field of research, producing innovative and effective ways of overcoming a variety of existing limitations. Current laboratory based bacterial detection and identification techniques often require long procedures, provide low sensitivity and specificity as well as slow turnaround times. These conventional techniques include microscopy, culturing bacteria, polymerase chain reactions (PCR) and biochemical assays. There is a heavy emphasis on developing new biosensors to overcome these prominent drawbacks. An ideal biosensor would provide a detection sensitivity less than 103 CFU/ml within minutes, distinguish between serotypes of bacteria in complex environments, be compact and portable, require ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These methods allow for quantitative and kinetic measurements of interactions and often measure refractive index changes, which determines the sample concentration or surface density. [7] Traditionally, label free techniques were not highly sensitive due to the lack of signal amplification which would be provided by a label. However, there have been advancements in this field that will be discussed which have provided label free biosensors with high sensitivities. For specific sensing applications, it is desirable to have the bacterial detection sensor immobilized rather than suspended in solutions. Immobilisation allows the static sensor component to be washed and re used, thus decreasing the long term cost to the user. These sensor surfaces are commonly designed to resist fouling and non specific interactions, as well as provide a permanent attachment of the sensing components without negating the sensing capabilities. Without immobilization of the sensing components, the systems often leave the sample contaminated with the sensing components. Depending on the hazard levels and toxicity of the sample post detection, it could require waste disposal protocols which are inconvenient, expensive and reduce the probability of wide scale implementation of the detection method. To counter this setback, a number of optical bacterial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this literature review, three major themes were identified which include; window displays, music and shop crowding. Finding Window displays In relation to window display, three studies reported that there is a positive relationship between consumers buying behavior and window display (Ali Hasnu 2013, Karbasivar Yarahmadi 2011 and Tendai Crispen 2009). According to Ali Hasnu (2013, p.7) consumers buying decision is influenced by the physical attractiveness of store displays. Consumers develop their first impressions by the store displays which emotionally attract them to the product and buy that product (Ali Hasnu 2013, p.7). Similarly, Tendai Crispen (2009, p. 107) reported that attractive window displays increases sales as consumers purchase unplanned products. Moreover, the finding of Karbasivar Yarahmadi (2011) study indicated that window display has strong effect on encouraging consumers to buying more and enjoying their shopping time. In order to trigger shopping among consumers, store managers must ensure attractive store displays (Ali Hasnu 2013, p. 7). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The On Balancing The Environment Balancing the Environment Does the implementation of government policies in order to decrease negative environmental effects violate individual rights? Immanuel Kant one of the most recognized names in deontological theory proposed a theory that is based on determining if you are using someone or something as a means or an end. In essence stating that in order for a decision to be made one must take into account whether a person is being manipulated against their consent or they are being foster towards an equally beneficial end (O Neill, 1993). One could say it is everyone s duty to push the government to introduce policies to decrease negative environmental impacts in order to sustain a healthy and inhabitable environment for the future. Yet this raises the question, how does one determine this is their duty and is this being forced against one s will with no substantial benefit? While others may argue that to protect the planet is the duty of all people. The term deontology comes from the Greek word deon, meaning duty. The theory of deontology states we are morally obligated to act in accordance with a certain set of principles and rules regardless of outcome (Shakil, n.a). Immanuel Kant expanded on this theory and introduced what has come to be known as Kantian Deontology. Kantian Deontology proposes, no one rational or autonomous creature should be treated as mere means for the enjoyment or even the happiness of another. (O Neil, 1993). Therefore, no person ... • 48. The Differences Of Aztecs And Mayan Civilizations Aztecs and Mayans were the biggest civilizations in Mesoamerica. They are known for having mass amounts of knowledge in subjects like astronomy, mathematics, agriculture and architecture. These two civilizations have their own creation myth: Mayas have Popol Vuh, while Aztecs have Mito de los Cinco Soles. Both works have given an insight on their culture s values, ways of living and beliefs. However, when the Spanish came to America most of the books containing essential information of these civilizations were destroyed. Some of the written works that were rescued pertained to both: Mesoamerican and Spanish authors. The Mayan and Aztec works Chilam Balam and Presagios según los informantes de Sahagún describe Spanish brutality and abuses, defining them as violent. In contrast Spanish works Segunda Carta de Relación de Hernán Cortes and Carta de Pedro de Alvarado justify Spanish actions against Mesoamerica s civilizations by portraying their own leaders as saviors. Spanish and Mesoamerican civilizations texts show contradictory points of view towards the conquest, creating skepticism on what really happened during that time. Popol Vuh and Mito de los Cinco Soles are relevant texts because they emphasize the importance of sacrifice in their culture.
