The Everett Worthington Inc. Summary
The Manuscripts and Archives Department is pleased to announce the opening of an important new
design collection. The Everett Worthington Inc. records showcase the career of an industrial designer
who worked his modern art deco designs into wood, plastic, and metal objects. Worthington s
influence at world s fairs and expositions across the United States from 1915 through 1938
familiarized consumers with his designs. Radio cabinets, clocks, interior design panels, furniture
styled with wood accents, and the intricate work in automotive interiors, are examples of his fine
craftsmanship. Gillette Safety Razor Company s newly designed dry shaver and travel case, complete

Nerd Culture Essay
Dork, dweeb, geek, techie, or trekkie? What is a nerd? Dr. Suess first used the word nerd in 1950 it
described a small, unkempt, humanoid creature with a large head and a comically disapproving
expression . Newsweek, just a year later, reported the word beginning to take on a derogatory meaning
as someone who is dull, and rigidly conventional. Over the next two decades, the meaning of the word
did not improve. In 1971, The Observer called nerds, people who don t live meaningful lives, and The
Chicago Tribune put it simply in 2002, silicon valley . Considering nerd is a slang word, the volatility
of its meaning and usage is not surprising. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the meaning of the
word is changing again. Behind the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

race is exhilarating. One of the runners from the first race crosses the finish line. People go ballistic.

I Am A Single Mother Who Was Chronically Ill
I was born to a single mother who was chronically ill for the first 3 years of my life, she recovered and
worked full time for the rest of my childhood, leaving my sister and I to pretty much raise our selves. I
have always had trouble in working out where I belong in this world and where home is. I left
England for New Zealand ten years ago trying to find my place on this planet, but I still feel lost. I
have chosen to work with artists books because they occupy a liminal space in the art world, and like
myself they have a hard time fitting into any formal definition or place, they have no real home.
Throughout my life books have been my constant companions, my teachers, my inspiration, the
closest I have found to a home. Books are a threshold to another world, they are a safe haven that can
be entered at the turning of a page. I remember my first local library, a huge silent building, with a
grand Georgian entrance framed by four towering white columns, I remember the smell, the sense of
safety and timelessness and this feeling of awe that I was allowed to be in this place, to take these
treasures home with me. My art doesn t define me, but it does define certain parts of me at certain
times. Artists books are not easily defined in their entirety, they can be many things. Dick Higgins said
of the artists book: A book, in its purest form, is a phenomenon of space and time and dimensionality
that is unique unto itself. Every time we turn the page, the previous

Perception People perceive the same situation in their own ways. We learn from the flow of
information through our five senses: sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. However, each of us
receives, organises and interprets the received sensory information in an individual way using short
and long term memory as part of the process. ¡§Perception is the process by which people select,
organize and interpret information to form a meaningful, whole picture of the world. It is influenced
by selective exposure, selective distortion, and selective retention.¡¨ (Kotler, Brown, Adam Armstrong,
2004) Selective exposure means that brand marketers work especially hard to attract the consumer¡¦s
attention. For instance, bra stylists are working very hard on this to capture female consumers¡¦
attention to purchase their products. Triumph¡¦s bra designers have long begun to blend Western and
Chinese influences to create fascinating effects in order to gain consumer¡¦s awareness. Selective
distortion refers to the tendency of people to adapt information to personal meanings. Brand marketers
always try to understand the mindsets of consumers and how they will affect interpretations of
advertising and sales information. However, people have a propensity to interpret information

Sexual tension leads to a highly charged, dramatic demise for Blanche and Eddie
The characters of Blanche and Eddie are closely linked by several factors, including the reasons
behind their cantankerous endings in the plays A Streetcar Named Desire and A View from the Bridge
. Williams and Miller characterize Blanche and Eddie through their sexuality, which is a very
important theme in both plays.
Both characters show traces of mental instability; Blanche perhaps more so than Eddie, as throughout
the play there are constant reminders to the audience that Blanche s already feeble mental state is
deteriorating. For example, when Blanche recalls the death of her young husband , Tennessee
Williams cleverly has the music of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately as they are both strong characters, one of the two has to come out a victor of their rivalry.
Stanley is strong but Blanche successfully establishes a foothold in his house during the first third of
the play and even shames him into acting somewhat sheepishly by the end of scene one. However,
Blanche s ascendancy does not last long and eventually we see Stanley regain his primitive masculine
supremacy. This then progresses towards the end of the play, to complete lack of respect for Blanche
herself, as in scene ten a drunk Stanley rapes her while her sister is in hospital; an unpleasant victory
over a weakened Blanche is the very peak of tension between the two.
The main tension experienced in A View from the Bridge is due to the great contrast between how
Eddie sees Catherine, and how she sees him. In Eddie s world, he imagines protecting Catherine from
marriage or any male relationship and wants her for himself. While Eddie wavers and switches
between communal and state laws and cultures to discriminate against Rodolpho, his motivations do
not change, regardless of the fact it is often at the expense of others. Throughout the play, Miller
creates uncomfortable situations for the reader/viewer, caused by the emergence of Eddie s unusual
love for Catherine. This is shown in particular in act one, when Catherine

Beethoven s Seventh Symphony Analysis
Symphony No. 7 in A Major (Op. 92), completed in 1812, might have been one of Ludwig Van
Beethoven s most popular pieces. The seventh of Beethoven s nine symphonies, its premiere concert
(December 1813 in Vienna) was performed at a charity concert in order to benefit the soldiers who
had been wounded a few months prior in the battle of Hanau. It was performed three times in ten
weeks following its premiere. During the time of the symphony s premiere, Vienna was still distressed
due to being taken over by Napoleon in 1805 and 1809 and yearning for victory; the audience at the
premiere seemed to have loved the energy and beauty of the piece. The Seventh Symphony had been

The Seventh Symphony itself can and has been described in many words and fashions. It s victorious,
moving, energetic, powerful, and full of heart. The piece is known for its rhythmic devices (such as
dotted rhythm and repeated rhythmic figures) and the celebratory emotion to it, in which makes
listeners want to dance and burst into blissful joy. It involves four movements: 1. Poco sostenuto
Vivace, 2. Allegretto, 3. Presto Assai meno presto (trio), and 4. Finale, Allegro con brio. The score
includes two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two horns, two trumpets, two drums (in
which are tuned to A and E, except in the scherzo where they are in F and A), and basses. The first
movement is in A major, with repeated modulations between C major and F major. The second
movement also includes modulations (originally in A minor with switches to A major) and the third
movement is in F major. The first movement of Symphony No. 7 is noted for its long ascending scales
as well as its applied dominants relative to its C major and F major modulations. The Introduction
begins with a short A chord from the full orchestra. After eight bars, the piece has briefly entered the
key of F major already and is now accompanied by scales of two octaves which begin softly, similar to
the way a person creeps up and down a staircase. These scales repeat, gradually becoming louder and
more extravagant. The third theme

Unemployment skyrocketed up to its peak of nearly twenty five percent of the population. Added to
this was the series of dust storms terrorizing the mid west. These storms destroyed most crops and left
farmers destitute and homeless. This resulted in a mass migration of mid western farmers moving west
to areas such as California to find work. These farmers became to be known derogatorily as Okies.
Newly elected President Roosevelt began immediately to put programs into affect, which would halt
the effects of the depression and aid those who were suffering. These programs became known as the
New Deal. The purpose of the New Deal was to provide jobs for the unemployed and offer relief to
the distressed. Programs such as the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) and the Works Progress
Administration (WPA) put millions of people to work building roads, dams, and other public works.
One of these government programs was called the Farm Security Administration (FSA). The FSA was
an agency intended to fight rural poverty during a period when the poor agricultural climate and
plunging national economy was causing many rural farmers to leave their farms and homes to find
work. The FSA also hired photographers as part of a public relations campaign. These photographers
documented the lives and conditions of many of these stricken peoples.
The purpose of these photographers was to provide visual evidence that there was

Remember the Alamo! This instantly iconic decree of hope and patriotism was yelled by Texan
soldiers as they fought in the Battle of San Jacinto, the deciding battle in the Texas war for
independence. The battle only lasted eighteen short minutes, and it was a Texan victory, causing them
to gain independence from Mexico. Those two events, the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San
Jacinto, inspired many people in many different ways, including Henry Arthur McArdle. McArdle was

Gaap Earnings Vs Non Gaap
Lately, it is becoming more and more common for companies to report their financials using Non
GAAP earnings. A non GAAP financial measure is a numerical measure of an issuer s historical or
future financial performance, financial position, or cash flow that excludes amounts that are found in
GAAP financials (SEC, 2002). Non GAAP earnings are an alternative way of reporting the
performance of a company as opposed to GAAP earnings. Many companies often report non GAAP
earnings alongside the required GAAP earnings. They claim that non GAAP earnings more accurately
depicts what the company is going through and precisely shows their financials. A few common
examples of non GAAP earnings are pro forma earnings, cash earnings, operating earnings, and
EBITA (SEC, 2002). Pro forma refers to earnings, which exclude non recurring items (SEC, 2001). It
is regularly found that technology startups are responsible for a lot of the use of non GAAP earnings
because these corporations remove certain items like taxes in their non GAAP accounting to turn loss
into profit (Young 2013). Because of the lack of standardization and the potential for creative
accounting, it makes it difficult to draw relevant comparisons among companies or draw meaningful
information from these statistics. These reasons alone make the SEC and investors very weary about
the implementation of it. An example of a company that uses non GAAP earnings is Macy s. Being
such a large company to report their

Training effectiveness refers to the objectives or the goals were set to achieve after the training

In the early 1940s, the world was drawn into another world war that pitted the allied forces against
both Nazi Germany in the European theater and the Japanese in the Pacific theater. The attack on Pearl
Harbor was the final straw that convinced the United States to enter against both the Germans and the

The goal of the attack was to prevent the US from entering World Was 2 by weakening their Naval

Sexual Inequality, Disease And Despotism
Despite some of the truths in this quote like the idea that agriculture may have led to sexual inequality,
disease and despotism , agriculture revolution still had an immensely positive impact. Following the
creation of agriculture came a sedentary life style, and these two concepts led to the significant
increase in human population, as it was a more stable approach to living. It is only human nature to
want more, want to succeed, and want to better them selves and maintain dominance. If the adoption
of agriculture had not occurred, another concept with as many negatives would have been adopted in
order to take that step toward a better life. When one looks at the other possible routes that could ve

Such a demand called for enhancement in technology and tools. Tools were not a new concept during
the creation of agriculture, yet, with the agrarian age and those to follow came the advancement of
tools. Tools transitioned from the first stone hand axe4 to unique tools specifically for agriculture,
such as the plow, and other tools that had been used since the earliest of times were upgraded. Food
storage and systems food processing became a necessity to these agricultural based societies.
Agriculture changed and bettered previously used tools in a way that wouldn t have been possible
without the agrarian world. Following these creations came the irrigation system. Some societies faced
the challenge of flooding spoiling crops. The use of these large and complex irrigation systems gave
them control of the water that raises their crops. Though an irrigation system wouldn t have been a
necessity in a world without agriculture, this system inspired and birthed new inventions that have
aided different aspects of life that humanity could not go with out. Alongside these advancements
came the advancements regarding architecture. As agriculture played the greatest role in sedentary
civilizations, it is also the motive behind the growing interests and improvements in architecture.
Through out the Indus Valley during the third millennium B.C.E. vast ground plans and impressive
structures sprouted.5 The greatest of architectural revelations are remembered though Greek and
Roman movements. These two cities and their architectural expertise played a significant role in art
movements. Ancient Rome revolutionized architecture with unique stonework and their distinct
coliseums. Yet, historians first discuss advancements in architecture following the creation of
agriculture. It [agriculture] encouraged the creation of permanent housing... 6 The seemingly

Franco Zefferelli s film Hamlet Essay example
Franco Zefferelli s film Hamlet
Franco Zefferelli s film, Hamlet, adapted from Shakespeare s text, Mel Gibson s Hamlet, struts and
frets his life in Denmark, convincing almost everyone that he is mad. The film bases the question of
whether or not Hamlet is actually insane almost solely on Gibson s acting interpretations, but
Zefferelli s editing choices assist in making the point that Hamlet is not insane, but either in a fog of
confusion and anger from his grief, or pretending to be mad to manipulate others.
In the film, the morning after Hamlet sees his father s ghost, there is a silent scene between Ophelia
and Hamlet. He appears to Ophelia, disheveled and obviously emotionally distressed. He seems to try

The play within a play succeeds at catching the conscience of the King (3.1.582). In the film, Hamlet
dances exultantly with the players and says to Horatio joyfully, I ll take the Ghost s word for a
thousand pound (3.2.263 4). Claudius reaction to the play of running out and then going to confession
makes Hamlet believe that Claudius did, in fact, murder King Hamlet. In the final two acts of the film,
Mel Gibson rarely descends into fits of rage and depression. Instead, he puts on the act of madness by
appearing playful or irrational around other characters to help him in the process of revenge.
Hamlet abuses Polonius assumption that Hamlet is mad by constantly behaving as such around him. In
the film, he appears disheveled, engages in wordplay, and even throws Polonius off a ladder. Mel
Gibson s acting choices make it clear that Hamlet is merely pretending because, as soon as Polonius is
out of sight, he usually has a ponderous soliloquy devoid of the mad mannerisms present with
Polonius. This manipulation is especially present in the scene in which Hamlet tells Ophelia that he
never loved her (3.1). In the film, Hamlet sees the king, queen, and Polonius run to hide and watch the
conversation. During the scene, Hamlet tells Ophelia sotto voce, I did love you once (3.1.116). Then,
he yells, I loved you not (3.1.119 120). Gibson s change in volume and tone of voice proves that he is

TIME VALUE OF MONEY: ANNUITY CASH FLOWS FIN u02a2 Would you rather have a savings
account that paid interest compounded on a monthly basis, or one that compounded interest on an

interest that has been added also earns interest. This addition of interest to the principal is called

The Hindu Religion Essay
Sacraments
Samskaras are an important element in the belief and practice of the Hindu religion. The word
samskar is evolved from the root samskri which means to purify or form thoroughly. Samskriti –
meaning civilization and Sanskrit are derived from the root samskri . Samskrit was considered the
most refined and grammatically perfect language compared to other regional languages in ancient
times. The best rendering of samskara in English is made by the word sacrament, meaning religious
ceremony or act regarded as an outward and visible sign of inward and spiritual grace. Sacrament also
means confirmation of some promise or oath; things of mysterious significance, sacred influence and
symbol. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The general idea of the samskaras is that their practice surrenders the human soul to the service of
god.
Atri writes, By birth every one is a shudra, by samskars he becomes a Dvija (twice born). By learning,
he becomes a Vipra and by realizing Brahman, he attains the status of a Brahmana.
Symbolism has a significant role in the performance of samskaras, as it does in the entirety of the
Hindu religion. Both materialistic and action based symbols are abundantly obvious in each samskara,
and too numerous to mention. Examples include the use of Audumbar branches, or fig branches,
which stand for prosperity. The vatu (student) at upanayana and the bride at a wedding instructed to
stand on a rock signifying stability and firmness. Touching of the heart in upanayana between teacher
and student and in marriage between bride and groom, indicates residence of God and virtues of love
and harmony. Mass of rice indicates abundance and prosperity. Eating together means fusion of hearts,
grasping the hand (panigrahana) indicates assumption of responsibilities.
The standard sixteen samskars laid down by Hindu religious texts are:

Examples Of Misrepresentations In Haitian Poetry
Poetry have been a major tool for many Haitian writers to express the triumphs that they have and are
recently faced with, addressing misrepresentations that may have developed about Haiti, and to give
them a sense of hope and encouragement. In most Haitian poems you see the correlation of these
actions taking place in the defense of Haiti. Haiti has been a country who overcame many obstacles
such as; slavery, the Haitian revolution, recently the earthquake are continuing to go through many
more obstacles. Haiti as a whole have been a country for many years that have been up lifting each

light or even to portray a message of truth. In their poems Ports of Sorrow , We be Spirit People ,
Haiti: Statistics of loss and WONGOL all are poems with similar messages in different aspects of
light. The poem Ports of Sorrow by Patrick Sylvain is a poem about the pain that was developed from
the earthquake in Haiti and morn the lives of the people that were lost and a beautiful country that was
destroyed. We be Spirit People by Rudwaan is based on the Haitian revolutionary war, which was a

Brief History of the Company
Pizza Hut® is the family pizza place.
As a matter of fact, we are rooted in family—literally. Two brothers, mom, and $600 turned into the
recipe for the world s largest pizza company in 1958, when a family friend with the idea of opening a
pizza parlor approached the two college age brothers in Kansas. The concept was relatively new at the
time, and the brothers quickly saw the potential of this new enterprise. Borrowing $600 from their
mother, they purchased second hand equipment and rented a small building on a busy intersection in

The Neo Classical Model Of Economics
MONETARISM The 1930 s saw the neo classical model of economics, championed by Walras and
Mengers, crumble as rates of unemployment rose exponentially on a global scale. In the midst of this
economic crisis Keynes offered solution to the crisis in his 1936 General theory of Employment,
Interests and Money . He successfully argued that the state was alone capable of steering the economy
to produce social stability and social justice (Valentine, 2003) Thus the post war consensus was
formed and consequentially the centre ground of politics redefined, Keynesianism socialist model
would hold sway for the quarter century following World War II. The decade of the 1970s was
characterized by high and rising inflation and slow economic growth (Jahan and Papageorgiou, 2014).
Keynesianism couldn t answer the soaring inflation, Hayek, who warned Keynesianism was a road to
serfdom (The Economist, 2013) and Friedman s neoliberal model could and Thatcher recognised this.
The essential economic task of Thatcher was the desertion of Keynesian macro economics (Valentine,
2013). The result was an adoption of Monetarism, a belief in controlling the money supply as a means
of controlling inflation (Viven, 2003). The 1970 s economy was corroded to the breaking point due to
the clout of the unions. Edward Heaths Conservative government was plagued by continuous strikes
that led to the declaration of the three day working week. Inflation was rising as high as 24%, with one

Refugee residents have health needs that differ from native born residents in Multnomah County.
Often these health needs are identified during the mandatory health screening that is required as part

screenings. According to Dr. Paul Leung, Director of the Intercultural Psychiatric Program at the
Oregon Health Sciences University, refugees experience higher rates of anxiety, stress, depression,
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, substance abuse, and thoughts of suicide compared to the general
public. Moreover, according to the MCHD, more than one third of refugees identify having been near
death prior to resettlement. One in three has lost a family member or friend and nearly 70% have lived
through combat and/or torture. Furthermore, according to the Office of Refugee Resettlement and the
Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, refugees experience a wide range of health

The Everett Worthington Inc. records showcase the career of an industrial designer who worked his modern art deco designs into wood, plastic, and metal objects. Worthington s influence at world s fairs and expositions across the United States from 1915 through 1938 familiarized consumers with his designs. Radio cabinets, clocks, interior design panels, furniture styled with wood accents, and the intricate work in automotive interiors, are examples of his fine craftsmanship. He was a musician at the opera house in Bellingham, Washington at the age of 19. His interest in sound flourished in 1915 when he began a career in industrial design. Supervising the construction and installation of the Victor Temple at the Panama Pacific International Exhibition for the Victor Talking Machine Company he was praised in trade journals, making him well known throughout the radio and phonograph industries. In 1925 he moved to Chicago in preparation for the next round of projects the 1933 World s Fair Century of Progress and The Great Lakes Exposition of 1935 36. Designs for the 1933 World s Fair included a futuristic Coca Cola fountain which was in the main Midway. The wood work for this fountain display was a never used before process that became known as KarVarT. A type of laminated wood, this proprietary process was developed by Worthington and subcontracted to Haskelite Manufacturing Corporation. Toastmaster and General Motors displays at the Fair featured these wood panels, as did the Telektor exhibit for Stromberg Carlson. In 1935 at The Great Lakes Exposition Coca Cola celebrated its 50th anniversary, with a Worthington designed, and elaborately lighted, Midway concession display. Story Clark Piano Company made headlines in 1938 when Worthington re imagined their grand piano without relinquishing quality of sound. • 3. Nerd Culture Essay Dork, dweeb, geek, techie, or trekkie? What is a nerd? Dr. Suess first used the word nerd in 1950 it described a small, unkempt, humanoid creature with a large head and a comically disapproving expression . Newsweek, just a year later, reported the word beginning to take on a derogatory meaning as someone who is dull, and rigidly conventional. Over the next two decades, the meaning of the word did not improve. In 1971, The Observer called nerds, people who don t live meaningful lives, and The Chicago Tribune put it simply in 2002, silicon valley . Considering nerd is a slang word, the volatility of its meaning and usage is not surprising. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the meaning of the word is changing again. Behind the ... While Slashdot provides a means for hardcore nerds to socialize, other blogs like Gizmodo and Engadget bring together a larger a broader nerd audience. The sites are both members of the top 5 most visited blogs worldwide, beating sites like PerezHilton and Gawker, by reporting on the cutting edge of consumer electronics. Consumer electronics (cell phones, laptops, televisions, etc.) are a growing part of life and that is what these sites attempt to capitalize on; it is no longer just grandma that doesn t understand the differences between the newest flat panel TVs. Unlike Slashdot, the articles found on these sites tell more of a back story and link to previous and relevant articles. It is specifically the emergence of the internet that has enabled these sites to make the most of the vested interest almost everyone has in technology. The other race has the same amount of people, slim to no advertisement, is not broadcast, and has very few people that are aware that it even exists. The races both start. The runners are a flight, both races are at rapid speeds. The race is exhilarating. One of the runners from the first race crosses the finish line. People go ballistic. The only major achievements the USMNT has had is winning the Golden Cup six times and winning the Copa America tournament twice. More to the point, the USMNT is placed 27th in the world and has failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup after losing to Trinidad and Tobago, who is currently placed 83rd. They lost one of the most crucial games against a team that is ranked 56 places below them. The USMNT might indeed work very hard also, but the USWNT is giving everything they have and the players are proving themselves to be extremely successful on the pitch. • 5. I Am A Single Mother Who Was Chronically Ill I was born to a single mother who was chronically ill for the first 3 years of my life, she recovered and worked full time for the rest of my childhood, leaving my sister and I to pretty much raise our selves. I have always had trouble in working out where I belong in this world and where home is. I left England for New Zealand ten years ago trying to find my place on this planet, but I still feel lost. I have chosen to work with artists books because they occupy a liminal space in the art world, and like myself they have a hard time fitting into any formal definition or place, they have no real home. Throughout my life books have been my constant companions, my teachers, my inspiration, the closest I have found to a home. Books are a threshold to another world, they are a safe haven that can be entered at the turning of a page. I remember my first local library, a huge silent building, with a grand Georgian entrance framed by four towering white columns, I remember the smell, the sense of safety and timelessness and this feeling of awe that I was allowed to be in this place, to take these treasures home with me. My art doesn t define me, but it does define certain parts of me at certain times. Artists books are not easily defined in their entirety, they can be many things. Dick Higgins said of the artists book: A book, in its purest form, is a phenomenon of space and time and dimensionality that is unique unto itself. Every time we turn the page, the previous ... It is like a jewel box that jealously cherishes the femininity inside ¡V we consider it as the symbol of passion. Nowadays, bra is a type of fashion getting restless for something new. There are dozens of bras types to fit a female consumer¡¦s taste, need, style, size and particular occasion. Types such as push up bras, full coverage bras, maternity bras, sport bras, underwire and no underwire bras have made popular focuses on the upper torso of a woman, therefore, to most female consumers, an extravagant waste of cash is no doubt to be spent for this product. We learn from the flow of information through our five senses: sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. However, each of us receives, organises and interprets the received sensory information in an individual way using short and long term memory as part of the process. ¡§Perception is the process by which people select, organize and interpret information to form a meaningful, whole picture of the world. It is influenced by selective exposure, selective distortion, and selective retention.¡¨ (Kotler, Brown, Adam Armstrong, 2004) Selective exposure means that brand marketers work especially hard to attract the consumer¡¦s attention. For instance, bra stylists are working very hard on this to capture female consumers¡¦ attention to purchase their products. Triumph¡¦s bra designers have long begun to blend Western and Chinese influences to create fascinating effects in order to gain consumer¡¦s awareness. Selective distortion refers to the tendency of people to adapt information to personal meanings. Sexual tension leads to a highly charged, dramatic demise for Blanche and Eddie The characters of Blanche and Eddie are closely linked by several factors, including the reasons behind their cantankerous endings in the plays A Streetcar Named Desire and A View from the Bridge . Williams and Miller characterize Blanche and Eddie through their sexuality, which is a very important theme in both plays. Both characters show traces of mental instability; Blanche perhaps more so than Eddie, as throughout the play there are constant reminders to the audience that Blanche s already feeble mental state is deteriorating. For example, when Blanche recalls the death of her young husband , Tennessee Williams cleverly has the music of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately as they are both strong characters, one of the two has to come out a victor of their rivalry. Stanley is strong but Blanche successfully establishes a foothold in his house during the first third of the play and even shames him into acting somewhat sheepishly by the end of scene one. However, Blanche s ascendancy does not last long and eventually we see Stanley regain his primitive masculine supremacy. This then progresses towards the end of the play, to complete lack of respect for Blanche herself, as in scene ten a drunk Stanley rapes her while her sister is in hospital; an unpleasant victory over a weakened Blanche is the very peak of tension between the two. The main tension experienced in A View from the Bridge is due to the great contrast between how Eddie sees Catherine, and how she sees him. In Eddie s world, he imagines protecting Catherine from marriage or any male relationship and wants her for himself. While Eddie wavers and switches between communal and state laws and cultures to discriminate against Rodolpho, his motivations do not change, regardless of the fact it is often at the expense of others. Throughout the play, Miller creates uncomfortable situations for the reader/viewer, caused by the emergence of Eddie s unusual love for Catherine. • 9. Beethoven s Seventh Symphony Analysis Symphony No. 7 in A Major (Op. 92), completed in 1812, might have been one of Ludwig Van Beethoven s most popular pieces. The seventh of Beethoven s nine symphonies, its premiere concert (December 1813 in Vienna) was performed at a charity concert in order to benefit the soldiers who had been wounded a few months prior in the battle of Hanau. The piece is known for its rhythmic devices (such as dotted rhythm and repeated rhythmic figures) and the celebratory emotion to it, in which makes listeners want to dance and burst into blissful joy. It involves four movements: 1. Poco sostenuto Vivace, 2. Allegretto, 3. Presto Assai meno presto (trio), and 4. Finale, Allegro con brio. The first movement is in A major, with repeated modulations between C major and F major. The second movement also includes modulations (originally in A minor with switches to A major) and the third movement is in F major. The first movement of Symphony No. 7 is noted for its long ascending scales as well as its applied dominants relative to its C major and F major modulations. The Introduction begins with a short A chord from the full orchestra. After eight bars, the piece has briefly entered the key of F major already and is now accompanied by scales of two octaves which begin softly, similar to the way a person creeps up and down a staircase. A non GAAP financial measure is a numerical measure of an issuer s historical or future financial performance, financial position, or cash flow that excludes amounts that are found in GAAP financials (SEC, 2002). Non GAAP earnings are an alternative way of reporting the performance of a company as opposed to GAAP earnings. Many companies often report non GAAP earnings alongside the required GAAP earnings. They claim that non GAAP earnings more accurately depicts what the company is going through and precisely shows their financials. A few common examples of non GAAP earnings are pro forma earnings, cash earnings, operating earnings, and EBITA (SEC, 2002). Pro forma refers to earnings, which exclude non recurring items (SEC, 2001). It is regularly found that technology startups are responsible for a lot of the use of non GAAP earnings because these corporations remove certain items like taxes in their non GAAP accounting to turn loss into profit (Young 2013). Because of the lack of standardization and the potential for creative accounting, it makes it difficult to draw relevant comparisons among companies or draw meaningful information from these statistics. These reasons alone make the SEC and investors very weary about the implementation of it. An example of a company that uses non GAAP earnings is Macy s. Being such a large company to report their ... The Neo Classical Model Of Economics MONETARISM The 1930 s saw the neo classical model of economics, championed by Walras and Mengers, crumble as rates of unemployment rose exponentially on a global scale.
