Introduction Of The Hershey Company Essay
Kyandra Byars December 3, 2016, Introduction to Business The Hershey Company Introduction The
Hershey Company produces the best chocolate according to a survey taken among my coworkers.
This company is well known for their Hershey s Kisses, Kit Kat, Whopper s, Reese s Peanut Butter
Cups and much more! Personally Kit Kat is my favorite. Hershey s is one chocolate that I can eat and
it changes my whole mood. Their mission statement is, Bringing sweet moments of Hershey
happiness to the world every day. 1 Hershey s focuses on love, and not only chocolate. History of the
Company 1894 is when it all started. This is when Milton Hershey had just established the company.
He was producing sweet chocolate as a coating for his caramels. 1894 was a great year for him
because this is also when he started developing his own formula for milk chocolate. In 1907, the
company began producing individually hand wrapped conical milk chocolate candies named Hershey
s Kisses Chocolate. 1921 is when machine wrapping was introduced. In 1963, The H.B. Reese Candy
Company was purchased by the Hershey Chocolate Corporation. In Between the years of 1925 and
1939, Mr. Good bar, Hershey s Syrup, Crackle Bar, and Hershey s Miniatures were introduced. In
1945 Hershey s ran a good competition against a nutritional bar called Field Ration D. Sadly this was
also the year that Milton Hershey passed away. Until this very day, a lot of different and awesome

Non Ionizing Radiation
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was the crown jewel of the communist movement from 1922
to 1991. The USSR was known for its strength and unwavering beliefs, but it worked tirelessly to keep
one very significant issue tightly under wraps. During the development of the Soviet nuclear program,
the USSR disregarded even the most basic of health and safety standards when testing and developing
nuclear weapons, desperate to keep up in the arms race with the United States. This left the region
plagued with radioactivity and sickness, obliterated ecosystems, and the displacement of hundreds of
thousands of people from their homes. Radioactivity is defined as the amount of ionizing radiation
released by a material, and in the United States, the unit of measurement used for radioactivity is the
curie. Ionizing radiation has so much energy that it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can affect the atoms in living things, and can pose a health risk by damaging tissue and DNA.
Ionizing radiation comes from radioactive elements, cosmic particles, and x ray machines. There is
also non ionizing radiation that is far less harmful than ionizing radiation. Non ionizing radiation has
enough energy to make atoms move or vibrate, but not enough energy to knock electrons out of them
completely. It is found in radio waves, visible light, and microwaves. The former USSR suffers from
high levels of ionizing radiation, which has posed significant health and environmental issues that will
not correct themselves for centuries. Just as there are different types of radiation, there are different
types of nuclear waste, and the former Soviet Union contains all of them. High level waste consists of
either spent nuclear fuel or the waste produced by reprocessing

Rick Deckard Symbolism
In his novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Philip K. Dick criticizes American mass
consumerism by commodifying human existence. Precisely, Dick characterizes Rick Deckard and his
wife, Iran, as individuals who rely on the mood organ and the ownership of animals to define their
lives. It is evident that Deckard and his wife exemplify the archetypal consumer s inability to
individualize when these characters experiences are determined by the mood setting to which they dial
in their mood organ (Dick 6). The mood organ is thus symbolic of the characters inability to
experience emotions independently. As an object of self expression, the mood organ evokes a criticism
of mass consumerism, where the ownership of an item is a declaration of one s identity and placement
within a social hierarchy. Here, Deckard and Iran s identities are predicated on their mood organs.
Essentially, Dick commodifies human existence by having the ... Show more content on

This inequality emphasizes the notion that the individual s worth is dependent on extrinsic factors.
Furthermore, to Deckard, owning an animal is comparable to displaying a trophy in which he shelters
his own pride and self worth. For instance, when Deckard purchases the goat, he does so to get [his]
confidence, [his] faith in [him]self and [his] abilities, back since owning an electric animal sapped
[his] morale (Dick 170). Deckard s perspective is similar to the mass consumerist behaviour present
among Americans, wherein the act of consumption instills a sense of importance. Specifically, to
Deckard, it is confidence, a faith in his abilities, and his morale. Dick uses Deckard s pursuit of an
animal and the mood organ to explore the commodification of human existence in a consumerist
society. In doing so, Dick criticizes mass consumerism on the basis that it artificializes an individual s

Analysis Of Bill Gates And Steve Jobs
Capstone Word Project The two men I am about to explain have shape the technology world
drastically. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are some of the biggest names in technology, they are digital
pioneers. They founded their companies almost at the same time, both being the leaders in their fields
they have created some of the largest and most profitable companies in the technology world. Without
these two men the smartphones and computers we have today might be a lot different. Bill Gates
founded Microsoft and Steve Jobs was the co founder of Apple. Bill Gates was one of the original
pioneers of software, Job s the pioneer of personal and handheld computers.
Bill Gates is the founders and primary shareholder of Microsoft, which has become the world s
leading software manufacture. The complex relationship between Bill Gates and Steve Jobs began in
the late 1970s, when Microsoft was making most of its money writing software for the Apple II. When
Jobs began developing the original Macintosh in the early 1980s, he wanted Microsoft to create for it
a version of BASIC, an easy to use programming language, as well as some application software, such
as word processing, charts, and spreadsheet programs. So he flew up to visit Gates in his office near
Seattle and spun an enticing vision of what the Macintosh would be: a computer for the masses, with a
friendly graphical interface. Gates signed on to do graphical versions of a new spreadsheet called
Excel, a word processing program

Modern Soccer Research Paper
Emergence of Modern Soccer
The sport of soccer is traced back more than 2,000 years ago to ancient China. There are some other
places that also claims that they started the game of soccer and they are Greece, Rome, and parts of
Central America.
The place that really transitioned football the game that we now know as soccer is England. In
October 1863 is the year that the game of soccer was actually established, eleven representatives from
London clubs and schools met at the Freemason s Tavern to set up common fundamental rules to
control the matches amongst themselves. It is said that the English also recorded the first uniform
rules of the game, they forbid tripping opponents and touching the ball with your hands. As the game
of soccer developed the more rules that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then I found out that the leading exporter for soccer players in the world is actually Brazil even
though Europe is the core economic of soccer. It is said this is because of the Brazilian players
predominantly fluid and imaginative style of playing the game of soccer. This is crazy to me but about
5000 Brazilians play professional soccer outside of Brazil, which is a very outrageous number of
soccer players that are playing professional soccer all around the world. One of the reason that Brazil
has so many soccer players is because they are inspired by the success of Pele and Ronaldo. In Brazil
there are 500 professional clubs and those clubs employ about 23,000 players. Since there is so many
teams the individual markets are small and the pay is low for all the teams except for the top ones. It is
stated that, 90 percent of Brazilian players earn less than 100 euros per month (Bellos). Brazil exports
so many players to the world because of the poor clubs which means poor pay so the players would
rather go somewhere else where they can make more

The Caux Round Table
The similar aspect into the two sets of guidelines are that they both follow moral principles which are
ethical. The Caux Round Table is based on three foundations; responsible stewardship , living and
working for mutal advantage . And respect and protection of human dignity (Caux Round Table,
2010). Jerry White s point of view on the Bible with the importance with the primary verses from the
New Testament (White, J., 1978). The two together is the middle point of a circle on the values of
honesty, trust, respect, and the responsibility for your actions. Along with this they both discuss the
need for avoiding unethical behaviors such as illicit activities like bribery or corruption (Caux Round
Table, 2010). Caux also covers the need for respecting the environment as well as the need for ...

White utilizes the Biblical verses to present his plan on business ethics. The reason for that is because
he has a strong desire to convey to the reader s view that God has already given us the principles that
we need to monitor for everything in life including business. He states that it is God we serve and it is
God to whom we are accountable (White, J., 1978). The logic for his principles is to display to the
reader that business and God can be collaborated together. I think many people are unconnected to
God throughout every day in life and say that to succeed in business you cannot cohere to moral
standards. White is trying to prove that this is not true and that if you want to succeed then you need
God. Caux uses foundational concepts to present their principles (Caux Round Table, 2010). This is
because they feel that good ethics are good risk management (Caux Round Table, 2010). As a choice
of good ethical practices presenting a few difficulties to succeed at business and completely some of

Texas v. Johnson Essay
Texas v. Johnson (No. 88 155). Argued: March 21, 1989. Decided: June 21, 1989 In 1984 the
Republican National Convention was held in Dallas, Texas. While there, a group of protesters,
opposed to President Reagan s reelection, burned an American flag. Specifically, Greg Johnson was
seen dousing the flag with kerosene and lighting it on fire. Johnson was arrested under a Texas flag
desecration law. He was convicted and sentenced to one year in jail and fined $2000. The State Court
of Appeals affirmed but the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reversed the decision. The court first

The act for which appellant was convicted was clearly speech contemplated by the First Amendment.
The court also stated that, Recognizing that the right to differ is the centerpiece of our First
Amendment freedoms, the court explained, a government cannot mandate by fiat a feeling of unity in
its citizens. Therefore, that very same government cannot carve out a symbol of unity and prescribe a
set of approved messages to be associated with that symbol when it cannot mandate the status or
feeling the symbol purports to represent. The Supreme Court found that the state s first interest of
preserving the flag as a symbol of national unity was not made. The state had not shown that the flag
was in danger of being stripped of its symbolic value, the Texas court also decided that flag s special
status was not endangered by Johnson s actions. The court also concluded that that the flag desecration
statute was not drawn narrowly enough to encompass only those flag burnings that were likely to
result in a serious disturbance of the peace. The flag burning in this particular case did not threaten
such a reaction. There were only a few witnesses to the act that stated that they were upset with the
action but were not harmed in any way. There was no breach of peace nor does the record reflect that
the situation was potentially explosive. Just because someone was

wanted to fight was patriotism. In Vietnam, the only reason they had the number they did was that
they used the draft system. After the attacks on 9/11 people realised there was a reason to fight and

Internet Fraud Is Greater Than Ever
ote In a world amid the buzzing and beeping of smart phones, laptops, and tablets, our susceptibility
now to internet fraud is greater than ever. It s not incredibly uncommon to hear of someone s
experience with separation anxiety over their mobile device. and although this may be common nature
and just scream of the attachment issues we ve developed with each new technological advancement
becoming available on the market, the preeminent problem is security. The deceit in the system is
clear to see. We lock our doors as a method of protecting ourselves in our homes and vehicles, but
what measure provides the same sense of security online? The passwords we create that are intended
to be a minimum of eight characters, include a number as well as at least one capital letter, or special
character has to be something that we can remember and have committed to memory. The issue with
this lies within the frequency of of repetitive use of the same keyword/phrase. Director of IT for Bud

Sherry Carpenter, provides insight on the subject, With just over three billion people accessing the

Negative Effects Of Oil Drills
Being the second largest producer of oil in Canada, oil is big business in Saskatchewan. Oil mining
brings in hundreds of millions of dollars for the Saskatchewan government every year, but is the
money really worth it for the amount of damage it causes to the earth? Since 1990, there have been 18
893 incidents of oil being leaked in Saskatchewan. In these incidents, about 31.7 billion liters of oil
has been leaked, but only 287 million liters of that oil has been recovered. Extruding oil can release
many harmful substances into the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, and onto the land that
we live on. Although oil generates a large amount of revenue for the government of Saskatchewan, its
negative effects on the environment can not be overlooked.
The first aspect of the earth that oil extraction affects is the air. H2S is a poisonous gas that is released
during the mining of oil that can kill humans and animals. While not lethal in very low concentrations,
anything more than 1000 parts per million can be deadly to humans. In an audit in late 2012, it was
discovered that out of eleven random oil drilling sites, every single site had levels of H2S over the
lethal limit of 1000 ppm. This clearly poses a significant health risk to anyone working on, or living
near, these oil rigs. About half a year later in March 2013, the Minister of Energy and Resources sent a
letter to Saskatchewan oil and gas companies, telling them to better monitor and reduce H2S
emissions.

An Analysis Of Euripides The Suppliants
In The Suppliants, Euripides wrote, The people cannot form proper judgements and therefore cannot
rightly direct a state . Euripides is living in the midst of democracy in Athens; therefore his quote is a
critique of what is happening around him. In his quote, he is taking an anti democratic stance towards
the question of who is fit to rule. Euripides believes only one or few people should rule a state, as not
all are qualified or have the proper judgement to do so. However, people do rule the state, without
having to meet any arbitrary requirements to be fit to rule. The term proper judgement is highly
subjective and the notion that only a few have the ability to rule is simply paternalistic. The relative
success of ancient Athenian and contemporary Swiss direct democracy show that people do have the
ability to form proper judgments. It was Aristotle who once said man is a political animal , so it is in
human nature to be politically involved. In opposition, Plato describes the grave consequences of
placing the power into the one or the few in his ideal yet authoritarian state.
There are many issues with Euripides quote. Firstly, the term proper judgment is extremely abstract.
For instance, Machiavelli and Kant would have very different ideas on what proper judgment may be,
but both are thought to be notable political philosophers. The decisions rulers make will always be
criticized by one group of people, so it is difficult to say for certain if someone meets

Because I have a theory about the sinking of the titanic. I believe that captain smith was the person
who was responsible for the sinking of the titanic because of multiple reasons. One of the reasons I
think captain smith is responsible is because of the iceberg warning thing. One iceberg warning is ok
to ignore because he sent people to look for it, but when he ignores seven I thinks that s the limit
because not only are you getting one your are getting six more and means there is a serious ice

Living Religions
I was born and raised in a Catholic environment: my family is Catholic, I attended Catholic schools
until I graduated from high school and I still practice my beliefs and intend to pass it to my children
when the time comes around. Catholicism is a religion that comes from Christianity and therefore
Catholics are followers of Jesus Christ; it is a self proclaimed monotheistic religion which sometimes I
differ to acknowledge due to the fact that we, as Catholics, deified Virgin Mary to the point that is
always present in our prayers and not only that, we also believe in many Saints; something that does
not qualify as monotheistic. Also, there is The Trinity where there is one God, represented by three
divine persons. But how can one person be three and three be one at the same time? This is one of the
many questions I sometimes wonder about my religion... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way I see it, religion has a functional perspective since it helps humans define themselves and that
is why religion can be found everywhere in the world. As for my religion, Catholicism, I think I have
pantheistic beliefs. Pantheism is defined as a doctrine which identifies God with the universe or
regards the universe as a manifestation of God (Oxford Dictionary). Adding to this, my practice
towards religion is very liberal: I go to church once in a while, I do not pray every morning and before
bed, I do not do Communion (one of the many rituals present at Mass) all the time. I do not read
sacred texts, as the Bible, on a daily basis, only when I attend Mass, I am pro choice which contradicts
everything that Catholicism preaches on pro life. But overall, I do believe in God and I do have faith

Shakespeare s Othello
Desdemona in Othello
In William Shakespeare s tragic drama Othello, the wife of the protagonist is Desdemona. She is a
lovely, intelligent, wholesome and pious person. This essay will analyze her.
In Act 1 Scene1, Iago persuades the rejected suitor of Desdemona, Roderigo, to accompany him to the
home of Brabantio, Desdemona s father, in the middle of the night. Once there the two awaken him
with loud shouts about his daughter s elopement with Othello. In response to Iago s vulgar
descriptions of Desdemona s involvement with the general, Brabantio arises from bed and, with

Negative Effects Of Media On Millennials
Media s Negative Impact On Millennials
Media is now the dominant source of information and entertainment in the world. People use it as a
major part of their lives, but little do they know how much it impacts them, especially millennials.
According to the Pew Research Center (2017), Today around seven in ten Americans use social media
to connect with one another, engage with news content, share information and entertain themselves.
Today s media is negatively affecting millennial behavior, physical health, and mental health.
Media is affecting the behavior of millennials. Children, on average, watch around twelve thousand
acts of violence on televisionTV each year, such as murder or even sexual assault. Several studies
show that this kind of exposure can lead to aggressive behavior (PMC, 2003, para. 9). Media is also
becoming a heavy influence on sexual morality, portraying sex outside of marriage as common and
seldom mentioning its risks and dangers. Studies show how susceptible teens are to media s influence
on sexual behavior (PMC, 2003, para. 12 13). Drugs are promoted by the media to today s audience as
well. Celebrities are often seen and imitated by millennials as role models; but news and media often
highlight the negative things that they do, portraying sex, drugs, and other addictions as normative
(Mondal, n.d., para. 6). Also, several alcohol and tobacco companies make advertisements telling the
viewer that taking such products is are considered cool (PMC,

Mystery Of Iniquity Lauryn Hill Analysis

Paper One: People of color
Why do people think just by passing laws that the issues are resolved? Lauryn Hill is an African
American legend who was born in South Orange, New Jersey. She is famous for her wonderful music
and her marvelous poems. Ms. Hill is very multi talented, due to her singing, writing, and guitar skills.
Ms. Hill wrote one of her famous poems called Mystery of Iniquity. Her poem Mystery of Iniquity
was about her critique of the criminology of criminal justice system. The poem Mystery of Iniquity
was written May 7, 2008, and made a huge effect of African Americans. During the 2008 era black
people were moving on up toward victory because we had our first African American president Barack
Obama.
A reoccurring theme is the idea of iniquity. Iniquity is defied as a lack of fairness or justice. Rosa park
is a perfect example of the definition iniquity. Rosa is an activist who had to give up her seat an
educated black woman to a white man on a public bus. She was treated with an unfair lack of justice.
People of color have been discriminated all of their lives due to the fact that they are born darker then
others. Black people get discriminated against every day because we are always being accused of
breaking the law when in reality we really are not doing anything. People of color have no justice
when it comes to the law. Black people has been treated fairly when it comes to anything. People of

that finally, when human capacity is stretched to its limit, a spark of understanding and intelligence

The university, or the school.
Students come each year to campuses such as the University of Arkansas, or the University of Texas to
begin their undergraduate education. These campuses are a group of ever changing buildings and
monuments that make up what people think of as, the university. The definition of a school according
to Webman s Unabashed Dictionary, is as follows. A group of humans moving together through the
mind. This suggests that the university, or any school for that matter, is not bound by the borders and
walls of a particular place.
When asked why they are here, most students say it is because this is what they need to get ahead in
life, whatever that may mean. It usually has much to do with the brass ring, or the house on the top of
the hill with the sports car in the driveway. For these people, the idea of an education appears to be
nothing more than job training. Could this type of training not be given at a technical school in half
the time it would take to get an undergraduate education? Many that have this attitude will come and
go without ever receiving the true benefits of an undergraduate education.
Throughout history the idea of being educated has been one of a total body experience. The notion of
a well rounded person is one that is still talked about today. The ancient Greeks incorporated both
physical and mental exercises into their educational process. They were

As a Chinese descendant Indonesian native (印尼华人), I have experienced and enjoyed a lot of

life, it is no wonder that I grow an ever lasting attachment to it. Then suddenly, I was being cut off
from this connection whence I came to Hong Kong. After around three months living in Hong Kong,
the longing feeling for home food is still at large at my daily routine. This happens because Hong
Kong Chinese cuisine (香港菜) and Tionghoa Cai are not exactly alike. There are some difference
taking place when I compare these two cuisines. This being said, however, does not mean that they are
completely different. They have their own similarities. Therefore, I still manage to accept and even

First and foremost is that both cuisines take the importance of umami (鲜味) flavour to the plates.
Umami flavour here, which in Indonesian called gurih, is essential to the cooking because it created a

that a Chinese free of additive MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) food cooked in my uncle s home in
Causeway Bay is simply different from the HKUST LG7 canteen Chinese food, which I presume
using additive MSG. The later one of course tingling my palate better than the former. The same
phenomena also occur in my home country when I compared home cooking and Chinese restaurant

arena in the United Stated and the NBA. The United Center has hosted over 200 events each year and
40 million guests since its grand opening in 1994. It has a seating capacity of 20,917 seats and has

August Wilson s Century Cycle Analysis
August Wilson has been called by many one of the best playwrights of all time. August Wilson s
Century Cycle was sometimes referred to as the Pittsburgh Cycle. The Century Cycle has been
acknowledged as one of August Wilson s greatest works. The Pittsburgh Cycle was his series of ten
plays that charts the African American experience throughout the twentieth century. All of them were
set in Pittsburgh s Hill District except for Ma Rainey s Black Bottom, which was set in Chicago
(August Wilson). Each play was set in a different decade throughout the 20th century. These plays
showed the changing social and historical landscape of black America over 100 years (10 Plays, 100
Years Playwright August Wilson Reveals the History of a Community (From the Playbill)).
Wilson once said, I think the blues is the best literature that we as blacks have created since we ve
been here, and it s a lot of philosophical ideas. I call it our sacred book (Dyson). This genre of music
was created in the south of the United States by African Americans in the late 1800 s. The blues give
lyrical shape to the hurts and affections that stymie and transform black life. The blues tap comedy to
temper tragedy and to tame the absurd (Dyson). The blues music was popular among slaves living in
the deep south.
August Wilson stated around 20 years ago that he believes America doesn t need color blind casting. I
don t think his opposition to color blind casting is racist. I agree with his reasoning behind his opinion
to a certain extent. Wilson said that he opposes casting any blacks in roles written for whites and that
it detracts from the humanity of the actor. Likewise, I would be opposed to casting whites in my plays
(Shirley). However, I also agree with a statement made by Ambush saying he appreciates the historical
underpinnings of his assumptions and his arguments. Nonetheless, Ambush believes that minority
actors should be able to play roles designed for whites as long as it is color conscious or culture
conscious casting instead of colorblind. According to this policy, directors can cast nontraditionally
but should not pretend that an actor s race does not matter (Shirley). I think casting based on race
depends on the role

The Crown Heights Riot Of 1991 Essay
The Crown Heights Riot of 1991
Anti Semitism has been prevalent throughout the world since the establishment of the Jewish religion
and unfortunately, traces of it can still be found to this day in the United States. What exactly is anti
Semitism? It is the intense dislike for and prejudice against the Jews; it can range anywhere from
simple opposition to the Jews to vicious hatred displayed through physical torment. Some examples of
the more publicized cases of violence against the Jews include the attack of Irish workers and police
on the funeral procession of Rabbi Jacob Joseph in New York City in 1902, the lynching of Leo Frank
in 1915, the assassination of Alan Berg in 1984, as well as the Crown Heights riots of 1991. I have ...

Even before the Crown Heights Riot of 1991, there has been a lineage of earlier incidents between
African Americans and Hasidic that foreshadows what was to come. In the summer of 1986, blacks
had allegedly beaten a Hasidic man to death in a subway station; in April 1987, some 400 blacks
engaged in a protest march against what they considered to be Hasidic surveillance harassment; in
March 1989, several Hasidic Jews reportedly crowded around and beat a young African American,
Chris Gilyard, who was 16 years old, who they suspected of slashing a Hadisic man, Shalom Rabkim,
and his mother, Shoshana Rabkim, during a robber (1). This goes to show how a riot occurring was all
in the works yet, the severity of it was definitely not predetermined by these incidents. All in all, the
disparity and distrust between African Americans and Jews in Crown Heights as well as the distrust of
police along African Americans definitely contributed to the increased rate of violence in the Crown
Heights area in 1991. The culmination of the riot originated from a car crash that caused African
Americans to start pointing fingers at the Jews and vice versa. After leaving a cemetery to visit the
grave of a leader of the Jewish community, Yosef Lifsh started to drive east on President Street when
he either ran

Lancastrian Exceptionalism In Shakespeare s Second Neutralogy
Lancastrian Exceptionalism: Crisis and the Crown in Shakespeare s Second Tetralogy Sovereign,
argues Carl Schmitt, is he who decides on the exception (5). Far from the only definition of
sovereignty available to us, this narrow understanding, he continues, is a borderline case and
not...routine. Indeed, the exception is to be understood to refer to a general concept in the theory of the
state, and not merely to a construct applied to any emergency decree or state of siege. Thus, because
[t]he exception...is not codified in the existing legal order, it must necessarily be characterized as a
case of extreme peril, a danger to the existence of the state (6). Conversely, in non crisis situations,
Schmitt implies, we should expect the law rather than the will of the head of state to clearly delineate

This way, the head of state does not normally have sovereign power to dictate his will over his own
laws, precisely because the lack of emergency prevents him from acting autocratically. If we apply
Schmitt s theory to late mediaeval English history, we see that he is largely correct, at least insofar as
the royal succession is concerned. Consider the century of stable succession in England from Edward I
s accession in 1274 to Richard II s in 1377, for example. With each king s demise, there was no
question as to who would inherit the crown. Even in the case of Edward II s violent deposal and
murder not simply a single, tumultuous event but rather a gradual erosion of the king s authority in the
years before his overthrow Schmitt s theory holds true. As there was no immediate crisis of authority,
there was no opportunity for a sovereign to step forward and seize upon the exception, and the young
Edward III came to the throne almost automatically, as expected and indeed as the law dictated. In
contrast, the Lancastrian kings who followed Richard II Henry IV, and his son Henry

1990-1991 Gulf War Essay
1990 1991 Gulf War
The Gulf War, also called The Persian Gulf War, was an international armed crisis instigated by Iraq s
invasion to Kuwait in August 1990 and led up to a war against Iraq. The 1990 1991 Gulf War,
according to many war specialists and politicians, represents the first large scale armed demonstration
in the modern history, since World War II, as it involved two fighting parties: a coalition of more than
35 countries including Canada, all against Iraq. Although the decision for the United Nations to wage
war against Iraq was not difficult, Canada remained reluctant to take clear and serious measures in that
regard. The Canadian government and the Canadian citizens had different viewpoints that evolved and

Bush. The latter s influence was so noticeable that Mulroney made decisions regarding Canada s role
in the Persian Gulf Crisis without consulting Cabinet Robert Davis, pp. 16 17).
The change in Canada s military and political stand was significantly dictated by the change of the
Prime Minster. Jean Chrétien, who took over few months after Mulroney, initiated a new trend in the
Canadian stance towards the Gulf War and his decision publicized for that War as an apparent victory
to the coalition, there was a lot of global consternation about that War s legitimacy, costs and results.
The lingering effects of that war were not reflected in the immediate aftermath only, but also in the
subsequent years, afflicting all parties involved in that War.
Although not directly involved, Canada s government supported the action of the coalition and, as part
of the UN, sent off a naval force composed of the HMCS Terra Nova, HMCS Athabascan and the
HMCS Protecteur. Canadian CF 18 jets, with over 500 personnel, were based in Qatar and conducted
air combat and reconnaissance missions. An air transport group supplied cargo plans for personnel and
cargo and over 500 more Canadians served with the British Division as field hospital

Papa Johns Essay
Papa John s has experienced a major strategic issue in the marketing of the brand. The reputation of
the organization was stained when former Papa John s CEO John Schnatter blamed weak third quarter
sales on NFL players protesting police brutality and racial inequality (McGrath, 2018). The comments
made by the former CEO caused stock prices to fail and ultimately ended Papa John s partnership as
the official pizza sponsor of the NFL (McGrath, 2018). Unwelcomed support of white supremacists
neo Nazis have tarnished the organization s reputation (Larkin, 2018). The company failed to
recognize the power of social media and advertising. Pizza Hut has now become the official pizza
sponsor of the NFL. The company has also experienced a high turnover of upper management
employees. Brandon Rhoten, CMO, has decided to step down, which results in the third executive
departure since December (Weaver, 2018). Typically upper management is responsible for creating
and implementing the strategic plan. With the numerous turnovers in staff, it has hindered the strategic
process. The most recent turnover is that of CFO Lance Tucker on March 2, 2018 (8 K: Papa Johns ...

Haig s Reputation as the Butcher of the Somme Essay
Haig s Reputation as the Butcher of the Somme
In the run up to the war, Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig was appointed the Director of Military
Training. In an effort to create a reserve standard army which could double up as a home front defence
force, plus a fighting unit for use abroad, he managed to achieve this by pushing for legislation that
lead to the creation of the TA (Territory Army) and the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) which were
to be later used in the war effort in the war to end all wars . Haig is most famously renowned for his
involvement in the hundreds of dead soldiers strung out like wreckage in the thickened barbed wire of
the failed attack of the Somme, after a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His apparent lack of emotion leads me to how he may deserve the label of being the butcher of the
Somme . This reveals when he says the nation must be taught to bear losses. This heartless attitude
bears resemblance to the rule of Bloody Mary as Queen of England when she persecuted Protestants
in an attempt to bring England back to the Roman Catholic faith. He is also inferred to be a butcher as
he did not stop the men from going over the top when he saw that his particular plan of action was not
working in its current state
Even though the Somme was a terrible disaster, it served in a positive light to be a learning curve for
the British Battalions/Sections/Corps/and generals. With the benefit of hindsight, it showed the Allies
that their was a serious, inadmissible problem in their ranks because how such a mass scale massacre
of men could happen after such a well planned offensive from high up the ranks to Haig himself is a
clerical atrocity. Firstly, the barbed wire pounding was a good idea in theory however it only served to
in practice make the wire entangle so that it was thick to the point that daylight could barely be seen
through it . But, it could be argued that because Haig suggested the idea after being prompted

The Trade Of Counterfeit Products Essay
Abstract:
India is a one of the key markets of counterfeit products in South Asia which has negatively affected
its economy since many years. The trade of counterfeit and pirated products hamper the development
of knowledge and innovation as it can greatly reduce the economic benefits for the original creator of
products. Widespread and rampant piracy and weak intellectual property rights (IPR) dilutes the
development of local industry and also endangers the huge investments made in research and
development work of organizations. This can lead to loss of competitive advantage as the
competitiveness of firms is driven by the firm s ability to innovate and create new products churned
from its knowledge capital. Counterfeiting and piracy can exist in the market from within or due to
imports from a foreign market but flourishing or controlling of it can be understood majorly by
understanding the attitude of Indian consumers towards purchase of counterfeit and pirated products.
The studies so far particularly considering IPR infringements have been skewed towards
Pharmaceuticals, Entertainment and Information Technology. This paper attempts to investigate and
understand the Indian consumers awareness of IPR infringements and their attitudes and intention
towards purchase of Home Appliances based on psychographic and demographic factors.

  • 2. Introduction Of The Hershey Company Essay Kyandra Byars December 3, 2016, Introduction to Business The Hershey Company Introduction The Hershey Company produces the best chocolate according to a survey taken among my coworkers. This company is well known for their Hershey s Kisses, Kit Kat, Whopper s, Reese s Peanut Butter Cups and much more! Personally Kit Kat is my favorite. Hershey s is one chocolate that I can eat and it changes my whole mood. Their mission statement is, Bringing sweet moments of Hershey happiness to the world every day. 1 Hershey s focuses on love, and not only chocolate. History of the Company 1894 is when it all started. This is when Milton Hershey had just established the company. He was producing sweet chocolate as a coating for his caramels. 1894 was a great year for him because this is also when he started developing his own formula for milk chocolate. In 1907, the company began producing individually hand wrapped conical milk chocolate candies named Hershey s Kisses Chocolate. 1921 is when machine wrapping was introduced. In 1963, The H.B. Reese Candy Company was purchased by the Hershey Chocolate Corporation. In Between the years of 1925 and 1939, Mr. Good bar, Hershey s Syrup, Crackle Bar, and Hershey s Miniatures were introduced. In 1945 Hershey s ran a good competition against a nutritional bar called Field Ration D. Sadly this was also the year that Milton Hershey passed away. • 3. Non Ionizing Radiation The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was the crown jewel of the communist movement from 1922 to 1991. The USSR was known for its strength and unwavering beliefs, but it worked tirelessly to keep one very significant issue tightly under wraps. During the development of the Soviet nuclear program, the USSR disregarded even the most basic of health and safety standards when testing and developing nuclear weapons, desperate to keep up in the arms race with the United States. This left the region plagued with radioactivity and sickness, obliterated ecosystems, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people from their homes. Radioactivity is defined as the amount of ionizing radiation released by a material, and in the United States, the unit of measurement used for radioactivity is the curie. Ionizing radiation has so much energy that it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can affect the atoms in living things, and can pose a health risk by damaging tissue and DNA. Ionizing radiation comes from radioactive elements, cosmic particles, and x ray machines. There is also non ionizing radiation that is far less harmful than ionizing radiation. Non ionizing radiation has enough energy to make atoms move or vibrate, but not enough energy to knock electrons out of them completely. It is found in radio waves, visible light, and microwaves. The former USSR suffers from high levels of ionizing radiation, which has posed significant health and environmental issues that will not correct themselves for centuries. Just as there are different types of radiation, there are different types of nuclear waste, and the former Soviet Union contains all of them. High level waste consists of either spent nuclear fuel or the waste produced by reprocessing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Rick Deckard Symbolism In his novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Philip K. Dick criticizes American mass consumerism by commodifying human existence. Precisely, Dick characterizes Rick Deckard and his wife, Iran, as individuals who rely on the mood organ and the ownership of animals to define their lives. It is evident that Deckard and his wife exemplify the archetypal consumer s inability to individualize when these characters experiences are determined by the mood setting to which they dial in their mood organ (Dick 6). The mood organ is thus symbolic of the characters inability to experience emotions independently. As an object of self expression, the mood organ evokes a criticism of mass consumerism, where the ownership of an item is a declaration of one s identity and placement within a social hierarchy. Here, Deckard and Iran s identities are predicated on their mood organs. Essentially, Dick commodifies human existence by having the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This inequality emphasizes the notion that the individual s worth is dependent on extrinsic factors. Furthermore, to Deckard, owning an animal is comparable to displaying a trophy in which he shelters his own pride and self worth. For instance, when Deckard purchases the goat, he does so to get [his] confidence, [his] faith in [him]self and [his] abilities, back since owning an electric animal sapped [his] morale (Dick 170). Deckard s perspective is similar to the mass consumerist behaviour present among Americans, wherein the act of consumption instills a sense of importance. Specifically, to Deckard, it is confidence, a faith in his abilities, and his morale. Dick uses Deckard s pursuit of an animal and the mood organ to explore the commodification of human existence in a consumerist society. In doing so, Dick criticizes mass consumerism on the basis that it artificializes an individual s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Bill Gates And Steve Jobs Capstone Word Project The two men I am about to explain have shape the technology world drastically. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are some of the biggest names in technology, they are digital pioneers. They founded their companies almost at the same time, both being the leaders in their fields they have created some of the largest and most profitable companies in the technology world. Without these two men the smartphones and computers we have today might be a lot different. Bill Gates founded Microsoft and Steve Jobs was the co founder of Apple. Bill Gates was one of the original pioneers of software, Job s the pioneer of personal and handheld computers. Bill Gates is the founders and primary shareholder of Microsoft, which has become the world s leading software manufacture. The complex relationship between Bill Gates and Steve Jobs began in the late 1970s, when Microsoft was making most of its money writing software for the Apple II. When Jobs began developing the original Macintosh in the early 1980s, he wanted Microsoft to create for it a version of BASIC, an easy to use programming language, as well as some application software, such as word processing, charts, and spreadsheet programs. So he flew up to visit Gates in his office near Seattle and spun an enticing vision of what the Macintosh would be: a computer for the masses, with a friendly graphical interface. Gates signed on to do graphical versions of a new spreadsheet called Excel, a word processing program ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Modern Soccer Research Paper Emergence of Modern Soccer The sport of soccer is traced back more than 2,000 years ago to ancient China. There are some other places that also claims that they started the game of soccer and they are Greece, Rome, and parts of Central America. The place that really transitioned football the game that we now know as soccer is England. In October 1863 is the year that the game of soccer was actually established, eleven representatives from London clubs and schools met at the Freemason s Tavern to set up common fundamental rules to control the matches amongst themselves. It is said that the English also recorded the first uniform rules of the game, they forbid tripping opponents and touching the ball with your hands. As the game of soccer developed the more rules that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then I found out that the leading exporter for soccer players in the world is actually Brazil even though Europe is the core economic of soccer. It is said this is because of the Brazilian players predominantly fluid and imaginative style of playing the game of soccer. This is crazy to me but about 5000 Brazilians play professional soccer outside of Brazil, which is a very outrageous number of soccer players that are playing professional soccer all around the world. One of the reason that Brazil has so many soccer players is because they are inspired by the success of Pele and Ronaldo. In Brazil there are 500 professional clubs and those clubs employ about 23,000 players. Since there is so many teams the individual markets are small and the pay is low for all the teams except for the top ones. It is stated that, 90 percent of Brazilian players earn less than 100 euros per month (Bellos). Brazil exports so many players to the world because of the poor clubs which means poor pay so the players would rather go somewhere else where they can make more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

White utilizes the Biblical verses to present his plan on business ethics. The reason for that is because he has a strong desire to convey to the reader s view that God has already given us the principles that we need to monitor for everything in life including business. He states that it is God we serve and it is God to whom we are accountable (White, J., 1978). The logic for his principles is to display to the reader that business and God can be collaborated together. I think many people are unconnected to God throughout every day in life and say that to succeed in business you cannot cohere to moral standards. White is trying to prove that this is not true and that if you want to succeed then you need God. Caux uses foundational concepts to present their principles (Caux Round Table, 2010). • 8. Texas v. Johnson Essay Texas v. Johnson (No. 88 155). Argued: March 21, 1989. Decided: June 21, 1989 In 1984 the Republican National Convention was held in Dallas, Texas. While there, a group of protesters, opposed to President Reagan s reelection, burned an American flag. Specifically, Greg Johnson was seen dousing the flag with kerosene and lighting it on fire. Johnson was arrested under a Texas flag desecration law. He was convicted and sentenced to one year in jail and fined $2000. The State Court of Appeals affirmed but the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reversed the decision. The act for which appellant was convicted was clearly speech contemplated by the First Amendment. The court also stated that, Recognizing that the right to differ is the centerpiece of our First Amendment freedoms, the court explained, a government cannot mandate by fiat a feeling of unity in its citizens. Therefore, that very same government cannot carve out a symbol of unity and prescribe a set of approved messages to be associated with that symbol when it cannot mandate the status or feeling the symbol purports to represent. The Supreme Court found that the state s first interest of preserving the flag as a symbol of national unity was not made. The state had not shown that the flag was in danger of being stripped of its symbolic value, the Texas court also decided that flag s special status was not endangered by Johnson s actions. The court also concluded that that the flag desecration statute was not drawn narrowly enough to encompass only those flag burnings that were likely to result in a serious disturbance of the peace. The flag burning in this particular case did not threaten such a reaction. There were only a few witnesses to the act that stated that they were upset with the action but were not harmed in any way. There was no breach of peace nor does the record reflect that the situation was potentially explosive. Just because someone was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Internet Fraud Is Greater Than Ever ote In a world amid the buzzing and beeping of smart phones, laptops, and tablets, our susceptibility now to internet fraud is greater than ever. It s not incredibly uncommon to hear of someone s experience with separation anxiety over their mobile device. and although this may be common nature and just scream of the attachment issues we ve developed with each new technological advancement becoming available on the market, the preeminent problem is security. The deceit in the system is clear to see. We lock our doors as a method of protecting ourselves in our homes and vehicles, but what measure provides the same sense of security online? The passwords we create that are intended to be a minimum of eight characters, include a number as well as at least one capital letter, or special character has to be something that we can remember and have committed to memory. The issue with this lies within the frequency of of repetitive use of the same keyword/phrase. Director of IT for Bud Clary Automotive and Senior Emerging Security Technology Engineer Consultant for Nike, Inc., Sherry Carpenter, provides insight on the subject, With just over three billion people accessing the internet everyday it s proven to be immensely important to have firewalls, encryption tactics and Intrusion Prevention Systems in place to secure a network from malicious traffic (including viruses, malware, ransomware, etc.)... • 11. Negative Effects Of Oil Drills Being the second largest producer of oil in Canada, oil is big business in Saskatchewan. Oil mining brings in hundreds of millions of dollars for the Saskatchewan government every year, but is the money really worth it for the amount of damage it causes to the earth? Since 1990, there have been 18 893 incidents of oil being leaked in Saskatchewan. In these incidents, about 31.7 billion liters of oil has been leaked, but only 287 million liters of that oil has been recovered. Extruding oil can release many harmful substances into the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, and onto the land that we live on. Although oil generates a large amount of revenue for the government of Saskatchewan, its negative effects on the environment can not be overlooked. The first aspect of the earth that oil extraction affects is the air. H2S is a poisonous gas that is released during the mining of oil that can kill humans and animals. While not lethal in very low concentrations, anything more than 1000 parts per million can be deadly to humans. In an audit in late 2012, it was discovered that out of eleven random oil drilling sites, every single site had levels of H2S over the lethal limit of 1000 ppm. This clearly poses a significant health risk to anyone working on, or living near, these oil rigs. About half a year later in March 2013, the Minister of Energy and Resources sent a letter to Saskatchewan oil and gas companies, telling them to better monitor and reduce H2S emissions. ... • 12. An Analysis Of Euripides The Suppliants In The Suppliants, Euripides wrote, The people cannot form proper judgements and therefore cannot rightly direct a state . Euripides is living in the midst of democracy in Athens; therefore his quote is a critique of what is happening around him. In his quote, he is taking an anti democratic stance towards the question of who is fit to rule. Euripides believes only one or few people should rule a state, as not all are qualified or have the proper judgement to do so. However, people do rule the state, without having to meet any arbitrary requirements to be fit to rule. The term proper judgement is highly subjective and the notion that only a few have the ability to rule is simply paternalistic. The relative success of ancient Athenian and contemporary Swiss direct democracy show that people do have the ability to form proper judgments. It was Aristotle who once said man is a political animal , so it is in human nature to be politically involved. In opposition, Plato describes the grave consequences of placing the power into the one or the few in his ideal yet authoritarian state. There are many issues with Euripides quote. Firstly, the term proper judgment is extremely abstract. For instance, Machiavelli and Kant would have very different ideas on what proper judgment may be, but both are thought to be notable political philosophers. The decisions rulers make will always be criticized by one group of people, so it is difficult to say for certain if someone meets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe that captain smith was the person who was responsible for the sinking of the titanic because of multiple reasons. One of the reasons I think captain smith is responsible is because of the iceberg warning thing. Living Religions I was born and raised in a Catholic environment: my family is Catholic, I attended Catholic schools until I graduated from high school and I still practice my beliefs and intend to pass it to my children when the time comes around. Catholicism is a religion that comes from Christianity and therefore Catholics are followers of Jesus Christ; it is a self proclaimed monotheistic religion which sometimes I differ to acknowledge due to the fact that we, as Catholics, deified Virgin Mary to the point that is always present in our prayers and not only that, we also believe in many Saints; something that does not qualify as monotheistic. Adding to this, my practice towards religion is very liberal: I go to church once in a while, I do not pray every morning and before bed, I do not do Communion (one of the many rituals present at Mass) all the time. There was no such person as Comrade Ogilvy , whose whole life was created to fit what the Party thought was a perfect and upstanding citizen, but Winston points out that a few lines of print as well as a couple of faked photographs could quickly make him seem like a real person (Orwell 46). Once there the two awaken him with loud shouts about his daughter s elopement with Othello. While waiting there for Othello s ship, she grows tired of Iago s derogatory comments directed at his wife, and she quite matter of factly states her mind: O, fie upon thee, slanderer! and even directs Iago s focus off of Emilia and onto her ownself: What wouldst thou write of me, if thou shouldst praise me? Today s media is negatively affecting millennial behavior, physical health, and mental health. Media is affecting the behavior of millennials. Children, on average, watch around twelve thousand acts of violence on televisionTV each year, such as murder or even sexual assault. Several studies show that this kind of exposure can lead to aggressive behavior (PMC, 2003, para. 9). Media is also becoming a heavy influence on sexual morality, portraying sex outside of marriage as common and seldom mentioning its risks and dangers. Studies show how susceptible teens are to media s influence on sexual behavior (PMC, 2003, para. 12 13). Drugs are promoted by the media to today s audience as well. Celebrities are often seen and imitated by millennials as role models; but news and media often highlight the negative things that they do, portraying sex, drugs, and other addictions as normative (Mondal, n.d., para. 6). Also, several alcohol and tobacco companies make advertisements telling the viewer that taking such products is are considered cool (PMC, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Education has Lost Touch with its Origin and its Meaning It is only when all these things, names and definitions, visual and other sensations are rubbed together and subjected to tests in which questions and answers are exchanged in good faith and without malice that finally, when human capacity is stretched to its limit, a spark of understanding and intelligence flashes out and illuminates the subject at hand. The university, or the school. Students come each year to campuses such as the University of Arkansas, or the University of Texas to begin their undergraduate education. These campuses are a group of ever changing buildings and monuments that make up what people think of as, the university. The definition of a school according to Webman s Unabashed Dictionary, is as follows. A group of humans moving together through the mind. This suggests that the university, or any school for that matter, is not bound by the borders and walls of a particular place. When asked why they are here, most students say it is because this is what they need to get ahead in life, whatever that may mean. It usually has much to do with the brass ring, or the house on the top of the hill with the sports car in the driveway. For these people, the idea of an education appears to be nothing more than job training. Could this type of training not be given at a technical school in half the time it would take to get an undergraduate education? Many that have this attitude will come and go without ever receiving the true benefits of an undergraduate education. Throughout history the idea of being educated has been one of a total body experience. The notion of a well rounded person is one that is still talked about today. ID : 20307789 Course : LANG1120 T08 ============================================================ As a Chinese descendant Indonesian native (印尼华人), I have experienced and enjoyed a lot of Chinese Indonesian food (Tionghoa cai). Having been eating the cuisine for approximately my entire life, it is no wonder that I grow an ever lasting attachment to it. Then suddenly, I was being cut off from this connection whence I came to Hong Kong. After around three months living in Hong Kong, the longing feeling for home food is still at large at my daily routine. This happens because Hong Kong Chinese cuisine (香港菜) and Tionghoa Cai are not exactly alike. There are some difference taking place when I compare these two cuisines. This being said, however, does not mean that they are completely different. They have their own similarities. Therefore, I still manage to accept and even sometime like Hong Kong food yet it still cannot replace the one and only Chinese food that I grew up with, which is ... • 24. August Wilson s Century Cycle Analysis August Wilson has been called by many one of the best playwrights of all time. August Wilson s Century Cycle was sometimes referred to as the Pittsburgh Cycle. The Century Cycle has been acknowledged as one of August Wilson s greatest works. The Pittsburgh Cycle was his series of ten plays that charts the African American experience throughout the twentieth century. All of them were set in Pittsburgh s Hill District except for Ma Rainey s Black Bottom, which was set in Chicago (August Wilson). Each play was set in a different decade throughout the 20th century. These plays showed the changing social and historical landscape of black America over 100 years (10 Plays, 100 Years Playwright August Wilson Reveals the History of a Community (From the Playbill)). Wilson once said, I think the blues is the best literature that we as blacks have created since we ve been here, and it s a lot of philosophical ideas. I call it our sacred book (Dyson). This genre of music was created in the south of the United States by African Americans in the late 1800 s. The blues give lyrical shape to the hurts and affections that stymie and transform black life. The blues tap comedy to temper tragedy and to tame the absurd (Dyson). The blues music was popular among slaves living in the deep south. August Wilson stated around 20 years ago that he believes America doesn t need color blind casting. I don t think his opposition to color blind casting is racist. I agree with his reasoning behind his opinion to a certain extent. Wilson said that he opposes casting any blacks in roles written for whites and that it detracts from the humanity of the actor. Likewise, I would be opposed to casting whites in my plays (Shirley). However, I also agree with a statement made by Ambush saying he appreciates the historical underpinnings of his assumptions and his arguments. Nonetheless, Ambush believes that minority actors should be able to play roles designed for whites as long as it is color conscious or culture conscious casting instead of colorblind. According to this policy, directors can cast nontraditionally but should not pretend that an actor s race does not matter (Shirley). I think casting based on race depends on the role ... • 25. The Crown Heights Riot Of 1991 Essay The Crown Heights Riot of 1991 Anti Semitism has been prevalent throughout the world since the establishment of the Jewish religion and unfortunately, traces of it can still be found to this day in the United States. What exactly is anti Semitism? It is the intense dislike for and prejudice against the Jews; it can range anywhere from simple opposition to the Jews to vicious hatred displayed through physical torment. Some examples of the more publicized cases of violence against the Jews include the attack of Irish workers and police on the funeral procession of Rabbi Jacob Joseph in New York City in 1902, the lynching of Leo Frank in 1915, the assassination of Alan Berg in 1984, as well as the Crown Heights riots of 1991. I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even before the Crown Heights Riot of 1991, there has been a lineage of earlier incidents between African Americans and Hasidic that foreshadows what was to come. In the summer of 1986, blacks had allegedly beaten a Hasidic man to death in a subway station; in April 1987, some 400 blacks engaged in a protest march against what they considered to be Hasidic surveillance harassment; in March 1989, several Hasidic Jews reportedly crowded around and beat a young African American, Chris Gilyard, who was 16 years old, who they suspected of slashing a Hadisic man, Shalom Rabkim, and his mother, Shoshana Rabkim, during a robber (1). This goes to show how a riot occurring was all in the works yet, the severity of it was definitely not predetermined by these incidents. All in all, the disparity and distrust between African Americans and Jews in Crown Heights as well as the distrust of police along African Americans definitely contributed to the increased rate of violence in the Crown Heights area in 1991. The culmination of the riot originated from a car crash that caused African Americans to start pointing fingers at the Jews and vice versa. • 26. Lancastrian Exceptionalism In Shakespeare s Second Neutralogy Lancastrian Exceptionalism: Crisis and the Crown in Shakespeare s Second Tetralogy Sovereign, argues Carl Schmitt, is he who decides on the exception (5). Far from the only definition of sovereignty available to us, this narrow understanding, he continues, is a borderline case and not...routine. Indeed, the exception is to be understood to refer to a general concept in the theory of the state, and not merely to a construct applied to any emergency decree or state of siege. Thus, because [t]he exception...is not codified in the existing legal order, it must necessarily be characterized as a case of extreme peril, a danger to the existence of the state (6). This way, the head of state does not normally have sovereign power to dictate his will over his own laws, precisely because the lack of emergency prevents him from acting autocratically. If we apply Schmitt s theory to late mediaeval English history, we see that he is largely correct, at least insofar as the royal succession is concerned. Consider the century of stable succession in England from Edward I s accession in 1274 to Richard II s in 1377, for example. With each king s demise, there was no question as to who would inherit the crown. Even in the case of Edward II s violent deposal and murder not simply a single, tumultuous event but rather a gradual erosion of the king s authority in the years before his overthrow Schmitt s theory holds true. As there was no immediate crisis of authority, there was no opportunity for a sovereign to step forward and seize upon the exception, and the young Edward III came to the throne almost automatically, as expected and indeed as the law dictated. The 1990 1991 Gulf War, according to many war specialists and politicians, represents the first large scale armed demonstration in the modern history, since World War II, as it involved two fighting parties: a coalition of more than 35 countries including Canada, all against Iraq. In an effort to create a reserve standard army which could double up as a home front defence force, plus a fighting unit for use abroad, he managed to achieve this by pushing for legislation that lead to the creation of the TA (Territory Army) and the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) which were to be later used in the war effort in the war to end all wars . • 31. The Trade Of Counterfeit Products Essay Abstract: India is a one of the key markets of counterfeit products in South Asia which has negatively affected its economy since many years. The trade of counterfeit and pirated products hamper the development of knowledge and innovation as it can greatly reduce the economic benefits for the original creator of products. Widespread and rampant piracy and weak intellectual property rights (IPR) dilutes the development of local industry and also endangers the huge investments made in research and development work of organizations. This can lead to loss of competitive advantage as the competitiveness of firms is driven by the firm s ability to innovate and create new products churned from its knowledge capital. Counterfeiting and piracy can exist in the market from within or due to imports from a foreign market but flourishing or controlling of it can be understood majorly by understanding the attitude of Indian consumers towards purchase of counterfeit and pirated products. The studies so far particularly considering IPR infringements have been skewed towards Pharmaceuticals, Entertainment and Information Technology.
