United Airlines Strengths And Weaknesses
As one of the largest, publically held companies in the county, it s not surprising that United Airlines
has some impressive statistics to its name. The Chicago based airline employs over 87,000 people,
operates routes to 360 destinations worldwide, and reported a net profit of $571 million in 2013 (UAL
Corporation SWOT Analysis, 2014). While the company has struggled financially in recent years, they
ve been able recover by capitalizing on their size and reputation. In this paper we ll examine the
history of the airline and look into the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that will
impact their future.

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in 2014 international tourist arrivals are
expected to increase by approximately 4%, slightly above UNWTO s long term forecast of 3.8% per
year for the period 2010 to 2020 (Compendium of Tourism Statistics Data 2009 2013, 2015). Thus,
UCH, with its comprehensive global route network, is well positioned to benefit from increasing
global tourism industry, which in turn would help the company to generate additional revenues (UAL

A Surveillance Society written by Thompson and Hickey is about today s modern surveillance and its
growth., the use of surveillance equipment has increased since the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Cameras
and other technology advanced surveillance equipment, is just about everywhere watching and
recording every move people make. Some public citizens may feel this is a violation of their rights.
With the unrest in the world today and growing paranoia the public feels a sense of security; with
cameras and other devices in place to help detect acts of terrorism. The United States compared to
other countries has fallen behind in the advancement of surveillance. Many countries like England, for
instance, have installed so many cameras that a British

The Importance Of The European Union
Europe is one of the largest economic zones in the world and has tremendous influence within global
economics and politics. The European Union was created to promote peace throughout a region that
has been plagued by wars for all modern and ancient history. There is growing discontent towards the
Union in recent years, the United Kingdom has voted to leave the Union through efforts from and
candidates in member countries have pledged to leave the Union once in power. The future of the
Union is in jeopardy so the question is, whether the E.U. should remain as one or dismantle entirely,
and what problems to both paths lead to? The European Union should remain because all member
countries benefit economically and socially through unity, however the Union needs to agree more on
policy instead of populism. When the European Union was established the cause was rooted in
European peace. After the Second World War, many European countries found themselves in ruin and
saw an emerging superpower in the east in the U.S.S.R. Countries in Europe decided it was in their
best interest to form a federation of European countries in order to promote a more safe and secure
Europe. For the most part, it has worked, It is no coincidence that the longest period of peace in
written history in Europe started with the formation of the European Communities (Juncker 2016).
Europe quickly started signing economic treaties to help promote better trade between countries and

Lao Tzu Leadership Analysis
Lao Tzu is considered the Father of Taoism and was searching for an individual s path of natural
goodness. He once said Be the Chief, but never the lord. This quote has been very inspirational to me
throughout my Coast Guard career and has guided me to my definition of Leadership. A lord is given
this title by inheritance or positional power granted by landowners. A Chief is chosen by the village.
The person is selected to make the right decisions for the benefit of the people. It is earned. Based on
my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of leadership is to have others follow by choice
not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force given to them by rank and expect subordinates to
follow. They must demonstrate leading by example and be a role model for others to follow.
Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I have seen my definition in my mentors and supervisors. A
short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd Reno, Commander
John Humpage, CWO4 William Thomas, and BMC Mike Hunt. Their leadership seemed to naturally
be in their personalities but I now realize it was so prominent because I saw them as my leaders. Those
traits are what made me choose to follow them.

How Does Dr. Heidegger s Experiment Symbolism
The Secret behind the Doors An allegory, also known as an analogy, is a short story that can have
hidden meanings using symbols and characters. Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne
is an example of this because when being read, the reader can see that the symbols are out of the
ordinary and not just a plain rose, or skeleton. The symbols throughout this short story represent
events that occur in the story, as foreshadow to the end. The characters are used to show emotions
people contain, and to prove a point by Hawthorne. Hawthorne represents hidden meanings by using a
series of symbols, and characters to appeal to the reader s common sense in hopes that they will
understand the deeper meaning he is really trying to get across. ... Show more content on

Dr. Heidegger uses it to show Medbourne, the Widow Wycherly, Gascoigne and Colonel Killgrew
what the water from the Fountain of Youth can do. As he drops the rose into the vase full of water it
becomes beautiful, and young again. When the 3 men and the widow receive the pure water and drink
it, they also become young and beautiful; also receiving the fine qualities they had from when they
were younger. The rose represents life, or death because once the vase is knocked onto the ground, the
rose becomes old and withered once more. The Fountain of Youth water works while they are drinking
it and it is fresh in their bodies, but once the water is gone, they become old again. The rose is a sign

Romantic, Realist, And Modernist Period
Love, since the beginning of time, has had a place in every literature no matter the time period. The
world that we live in is complex and often times, love and reason do not exist interconnect, however,
literature acts as the glue in bringing these two elements together. Authors sometimes use the concept
of love as a subject for their work, rationally, and carefully using it as a tool in their writing. In this
essay, works by different authors during the Romantic, Realist, and Modernist period will be used to
exhibit some of the forms of love used in literature. Romanticism was a movement that formed out of
the need for authors to be able to freely, and completely, express their emotions and desires within
their writings. By definition, romance is a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love .
This period, or era, changed how we, as people, viewed love and self. During this time, there was an
emphasis placed on ideas that were centered on individualism, nature, and natural human emotion.
Nature, and natural beings, was seen as inspiration and invoked imagination, impulsiveness, freedom,
and excess while creating a movement that was open to the ordinary individual, even the social
outcast. Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre is a perfect example of Romanticism s influence within a work.
This work exemplifies the quest to achieve not only romantic love, but self love or growth while
experiencing natural human emotions. After being belittled for so long, the

Sleep And Memory
How is Sleep related to Memory
According to the American Sleep Association, Insomnia is the most common specific sleep disorder,
with short term issues reported by about 30% of adults and chronic insomnia by 10%. ( American
Sleep Association, 2018, P.1) Scientists have proven that sleep is directly related to memory. Sleep has
effects on insomnia, discrimination skills, memory retention, and more.
Sleep is related to memory because of the effects that it has on insomnia. It has been suggested that
healthy sleep facilitates the consolidation of newly acquired memories and underlying brain plasticity.
(Christoph Nissen, 2011, p.1). When you receive enough hours of sleep, it will help build the process

Emotional events are usually better remembered than neutral ones. This effect is mediated in part by a
modulation of the hippocampus by the amygdala. (Virginie Sterpenich, Geneviève Albouy, Mélanie

occurs during sleep, when memories are thought to be progressively transferred to long term cortical
stores. (Virginie Sterpenich, Geneviève Albouy, Mélanie Boly, Gilles Vandewalle, Annabelle Darsaud,

meaning that if there isn t enough sleep involved then the brain will not reach that stage and there won
t be any long term memories created. If it is an emotional memory and has a greater effect then it will
be transferred to long term cortical stories. The recollection of emotional stimuli elicited larger
responses in the hippocampus and various cortical areas in the well rested group than in the sleep
deprived group, suggesting that emotional significance boosts memory consolidation of the
information during sleep. (Virginie Sterpenich, Geneviève Albouy, Mélanie Boly, Gilles Vandewalle,

CHAPTER 2: INDUSTRY ANALYSIS
GEICO operates in the insurance business which is regulated by the Federal Insurance Office in the
United States. The insurance industry in the United States is the largest in the world in terms of
insurance premiums, exceeding $1.2trillion. Despite this it is not in the top 10 countries of the world
in terms of the insurance premiums paid per capita of population. This indicates that there are still
unsaturated markets to be tapped which gives a huge scope of future growth.
The auto insurance industry provides products (insurance policies) which are more or less
homogeneous creating the need for differentiation which can be achieved by advertising your
company in a unique manner or identifying various target segments in the market and concentrating
your business on them. For the same reason, this industry has one of the highest advertising to sales
ratio.

Essay about Three Main Environments of Northanger Abbey
There are three main environments in which the novel, Northanger
Abbey, is set.
The initial location is Fullerton and it is from here Catherine begins her journey. This is also the place
to which Catherine returns at the end of the narrative. By the very fact that Fullerton is located at the
start and the end of Catherine s journey, it can be used as a comparison with the other locations in the
novel.
Catherine wants to leave Fullerton, as it is not exciting enough and certainly not as glamorous a place
as the second location, Bath.
Indeed, the Allens, who own the majority of the land in Fullerton, are happy to spend much of the year
socialising in Bath. Mrs Allen takes

On arriving in Bath, it is strange that although Bath is such a thriving town of social activity, she fails
to make new acquaintances or renew any old ones. It is here that Catherine meets Henry Tilney and
the Thorpe family.
Bath lacks the stability of Fullerton and it is this insincerity that enables Bath to be seen as a place
where it is easy to practise deceit. Bath is full of new acquaintances and thus easy to befriend and
utilise people to assist in any schemes and to fall back upon, if caught. It is here that Isabella deceives
the trusting Catherine for longer than would be possible in a close nit environment like
Fullerton.
In contrast to Isabella, Catherine s new friend, Henry Tilney, is aware of the falseness of Bath. He puts
up with the shallow entertainment in the hope he finds a worthy friend there, as happens on meeting
Catherine. Indeed, while dancing with Catherine, he convey his amusement that many visitors to Bath
come to dislike the place, but prolong their stay only to leave when money runs out, thus presenting a
damaging fascination with Bath. He thinks that Bath has
little variety and that Catherine should be tired of it at the end of six weeks .
Bath, although a real geographical location, is an artificial environment separate from reality. People
are preoccupied with fashion and dance rather than hard work. It is a place for the wealthy, those who

A Journey Back Home At Home
A Journey Back Home There is no place like home. These are familiar words I often hear from people
especially from those who are far away from home. They move or migrate to a different place because
of many reasons; it can be a new job, work abroad, or simply to find better opportunity. Canada has
been my home for the last 25 years. Living here gave me independence and the ability to improve
myself. I m lucky to be given the chance to stay and live in this beautiful country. All my four children
were born and raised here. Growing up, I want them to learn about their roots and family heritage. I
and my husband are both Filipinos. At home, they are already exposed to some of the values and traits
of our culture. One summer, we planned a vacation, and I thought what better way to learn, understand
and embrace the Filipino culture? Go visit the country. All of us were excited and looked forward to
this memorable trip back home to my native land, Philippines. Philippines This country was
discovered in 1543 by Villalobos, a Spanish explorer. He then named the country in honor of King
Philip of Spain, thus; the name Philippines. It is located in Southeast Asia. It is an archipelago

Examples Of Sorrow In The Odyssey
Can you know true happiness without knowing sorrow? Happiness is a subjective emotion. Some
people say they cannot be happy without first experiencing bad things. I do not think this is entirely
true. Babies know happiness when they get to play with their favorite toy or when they see something
new that excites them. Now some might argue that babies have experienced sorrow or unhappiness
when they are crying however, I think their short attention span makes them forget sorrow much easier
than happiness.
When you apply this concept to adults like Odysseus things become slightly different, he has
experienced a lot of sorrow in his life and his definition of happiness is probably very different than

Sometimes it can be their wife or another man. If Odysseus had left a regent king in charge for ten

that the regent king had not taken over is highly unlikely they would have waited around for that much
time for Odysseus. Now since The Odyssey does not mention one He does not specifically have to
worry about this problem however, he has to worry about someone seizing his throne. Telemachus is
around twenty or twenty one years of age now, having not known his father it is surprising he has not
been appointed to king yet or killed by the suitors so they can be king. Telemachus could also turn on
his father, remember he has never known him and does not have a bond with him, so he could be king.

ends from this point forward, in cases where property is subject to liability, the partner would adjust its
basis in the partnership. Gain, if triggered due to partner s liability decrease, termed deemed
distribution, recognition of this gain could be circumvented by adjusting the transferor s outside basis,
hence no recognition of gain either by the partnership or the partner. In case of liquidating or non

obviously fully aware of the presence of the other, neither seemed perturbed, or even greatly

expectations were for wolves to hunt nearly any caribou they d come across, paying no attention, at

Whether Intelligence Can be Defined and Measured Accurately or Not
In this essay I will look at whether intelligence can be defined and measured accurately through
looking at various definitions of intelligence; including definitions from Binet, Wechsler, Terman,
Hebbs, Cattel and Vernon. I will discuss a selection of more well known and popular intelligence tests
ranging from Galton to Wechsler, what they measure and what they don t measure. I will look at an
example of a famous person renowned for being intelligent and what there IQ test result would likely

Terman (1921) describes intelligence as a person s ability of abstract thinking (1921, cited in Heim,
1970).
It seems that psychologists find it hard to reach an agreement to define intelligence, resulting in the
final definition I will mention from Vernon (1969) intelligence is what intelligence tests measure
(1969, cited in Howe, 1997).
Although most definitions seem to have a similarity, the meaning of intelligence can vary over time
and through cultures. It was once thought that intelligence was all down to a persons ability with
spelling and arithmetic, whereas in the islands of the south pacific a persons ability to navigate the
oceans and there spatial memory are the way to judge a persons intelligence level (MSN, 2005).
It seems a nomothetic approach is needed to even attempt to measure intelligence. All tests need to be
reliable, correlate with existing test scores and show face, internal and ecological validity (MSN,
2005).
Intelligence tests were developed to predict school children s eventual academic results (MSN, 2005).
In England in the 1880 s Galton made the first attempt at measuring intelligence. Galton s theory was
that a person with a good degree of intelligence would

There is no question that multimedia can improve the quality of games and this is shown through such
creations as Playstation. In the end, it is that very game like quality that can enhance a learning
experience. Parents watching their children play innovative games see how powerful multimedia is at
teaching them how to read or solve math problems even thought the children perceive the experience
as just a game. Building on the power of this perception, innovators have increasingly used
multimedia to support all kinds of activities that are not just games ( Partial Project List ).
As computer applications programs become more complex, software publishers are building
multimedia presentations into their programs to introduce new features and walk the user through
them. In companies, this form of presentation will take a big load off the overworked technical
support staff (Curtin 218). For individuals at home or in small businesses, it will make programs
easier to learn and use.
Multimedia is extensively used for education and training in schools, businesses, and the home.
Education that implements multimedia allows you to proceed at your own pace. It changes the boring
presentations (to say the least) of the past and makes it easy to be attentive with the help of sounds,
movies, animations, and interactivity (Hajick).

Essay On Female Oppression
Women and minorities experience oppression both similarly and differently. To start, gender identity is
the root of socially assigned male and female roles in society. From the moment an individual is born
he or she is treated in accordance to their gender identity. A child s name, clothing type, group of
friends friends, and family roles are decided based off of a gender basis. As he or she enters the
working world, his or her pay scales, professions, work environments, and public restrooms are based
on whether the individual is male or female, as well. Sex categorization is a basis for assigning
individuals to adult roles in society. Gender may be the most basic category of diversity simply
because gender roles are identified and enacted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oppression and subordination affect all women of color and social classes. Women and minorities
both feel inferior to the superior, or dominant group. Young and Dickerson (1994) argue that the idea
of sexism cannot be delineated from the effects of racism and classism. In an essay written by Chafe
(1998) regarding sex and race, he believes that sexism and racism are interlocked in three methods of
social control. This is so because the dominant culture attempts to keep women and African
Americans in their place . First off, there is physical intimidation and threats of violence against both
groups. The idea that males need to protect women suggests that women are incapable of taking care
of themselves. Second, there is domination of the economic status of both African Americans and
women by white, dominant, masculine hierarchies of power. Women must please males, either
sexually or through other services, making honest communication and mutuality impossible. When
women get paid unequally in the workforce, the position is now deemed as women s work . Finally,
women and minorities have a limitation to their goals and aspirations. When women challenge or
protest against their role, they are viewed as angry feminists, unsexed, or saboteurs of family

Growing Rate Of Incoming Streaming Data Essay
1.4.5 SCALABILITY
Growing rate of incoming streaming data is indefinite. Even though the arrival rate of update
transactions are not predefined, system processor has to adapt the stream data flow as it grows
continuously. Adaptive Stream Query Processor is designed and implemented to execute continuous
queries and to adapt indefinite data flow by clustering, proper indexing so as to reduce the storage
space and fast retrieval of streaming data.
STREAM PROCESSOR
Streaming processing is the ideal platform to process data streams. Stream processing is designed to
analyze and act on real time streaming data, using continuous queries i.e. SQL type queries that
operate over time and buffer windows. Essential to stream analytics is Stream Processing, or the
ability to continuously calculate mathematical or statistical analytics on the fly within the stream.
Stream processing solutions are designed to handle high volume in real time with a scalable, highly
available and fault tolerant architecture. This enables analysis of data in motion. Finally query
processing is used to retrieve useful information from the stream data.
A Stream Query Processor is proposed to achieve fast retrieval of streaming data. Stream Query
Processor architecture is represented in Fig. 1.2. volume Figure 1.2 Stream Processor Input data are
arriving as stream continuously. The incoming data are time variant and embedded with timestamp.
Hence, timestamp is used as one of the attribute along with

Abstract: The purpose of this case study analysis is to examine how Larry Ellison uses power and has
used his power in the past to create one of the largest software companies in the world. This analysis
will examine the different forms of interpersonal power that Ellison uses, how the two faces of power
relate to his actions, if he uses his power ethically, and the influence tactics that he demonstrates. This

influence in the form of hostile takeovers. A good example of this would be his actions towards the
forced resignation of Hewlett Packards CEO Mark Hurd. This happened after an investigation was
launched involving allegations of sexual harassment. Larry Ellison quickly blamed the board of
trustees at Hewlett Packard for the forced resignation, then he instantly hired Hurd at Oracle (Nelson

the CEO of overseeing intellectual property theft at his previous job. The CEO of Hewlett Packard
fought back against Ellison and stated that the allegations were complete hogwash and untrue (Nelson

CEO all together about their competence, intelligence, and integrity. Even though Ellison lashed out at
them, he made sure not to ever criticize Hewlett Packard itself. In 2010, Oracle had achieved a new

Political, Societal And Economic Factors
6. What political, societal and economic factors are important in this country?
ECONOMIC
SOCIETAL When it comes to the societal aspect of the country of Qatar, its residents have been
divided into three different groups. the Hadar, Bedouin, and Abd. The Bedouin group can actually
trace their descent back from the nomads of the arabian peninsula, where the Hadar groups ancestors
were settled town dwellers. Although these individuals are of separate societal groups, some of the
Hadar are descendants of the Bedouin group. Most of these residents descend from migrants from the
present day Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan and are occasionally referred to as Irani Qataris. The Abd
group also known as Alabd formally, the literal translation of this group name means slaves. These
individuals are descendants of slaves brought from east africa many years ago. Every member of each
of these Qatari groups have the right to a non challenged citizenship. Although they are free to live a
good life in Qatar; their sociocultural differences among all of them do not go unnoticed, and are
recognized and acknowledged on a day to day basis.

Sleepy Hollow, New York, from his home state of Connecticut, to be the schoolmaster of the village.

They originally start off, Brom Bones, knowing that Ichabod believes in the supernatural world,
moves all the desks in Ichabod s class to scare him. Sadly and ironically it works. The irony in this is
that Ichabod is a man of intellect, a school teacher the fact that he actually believes in all of the
supernatural tales that surround Sleepy Hollow would most likely not be seen in the majority of other
schoolmasters. From the very beginning Irving shows the reader that Ichabod has fatal flaw that will
only hurt him as his conflict worsen. Later on Ichabod attends Katrina s party hoping to win her over,
sadly he is disappointed and leaves the party walking back on the dark and eerily quiet path home.
While passing the possibly haunted Major Andre s tree, otherwise known as the Headless Horseman,
Ichabod notices a shadowy figure tracing him. After calling out and receiving no response he begins to
quicken his pace attempting to lose the pursuer. This proves to no avail as the figure takes shape, to
Ichabod s horror. It is the headless horseman. Hoping on Gunpowder, Ichabod s decrepit horse, he
attempts to escape the headless horseman. The problem was that he was not a skilled horse rider and
ultimately as Ichabod looks back, but he sees the Horseman, instead of fading away or turning back,

Social Theories Of Mass Shootings
Mass shootings happen a lot more frequently in the world than most of us probably know. However,
every mass shooting that has been documented and investigated have the same main question behind
it; Why did the attacker choose to do this? Many times, our assumptions are all we have. Investigation
analyses the entire situation as much as it can to make sure our assumptions, if needed, are as accurate
as possible. However, there are a lot of theories and social situations that pertain to mass shootings as
well. On July 20th, 2012, one of the deadliest mass shooting had occurred in Aurora, Colorado. A man
by the name of James Holmes had been the attacker behind this mass shooting. Just a couple weeks
prior to the shooting, Holmes bought a ticket online for a midnight showing of The Dark Night Rises
at the local movie theater in Aurora. The night he attended the showing, left shortly after through one
of the rear doors. He proceeded to leave the door open and headed towards the parking lot. Soon later,
he returned. Not even 20 minutes after the movie had begun, Holmes began shooting vigorously at the
audience. Holmes is dressed head to toe in protective gear a ballistic helmet, protective gear for his
legs, throat and groin, black gloves and a gas mask. (Library, 2017) First, Holmes threw two tear gas
canisters into the theater, and after they exploded, that s when we began to start shooting. By the end
of that tragic night, there were several injured and some even dead. Ten

College Bikes Advantages And Disadvantages
These days, bicycles are becoming an increasingly popular form of transportation on many United
States college campuses. College students across the nation seem to have found considerable value in
using bikes to get from point A to point B on campus. However, once their bike has a flat tire or loose
handlebars, it becomes inconvenient to ride anymore without properly fixing their bike. The issue is
that if something happens on campus and they do not have the ability to fix their bike, it requires them
to go out to a bike shop or such to buy the necessary tools. College students do not bring repair tools
with them from home because that is not something you think about packing when moving into a new
room with limited space. There are students who do not have the extra cash to spare on buying repair
tools and some students do not have any other form of transportation besides their bike. I believe that
if Kansas State University allowed bike repair stations to be placed near the Student Union, Hale
Library, and Derby Residence Halls area, it can help encourage more students to ride their bikes on
campus. Without them fearing of what to do if their bike breaks down and reduce the number of
forgotten bicycles on bike racks throughout campus.
Problem Description
Kansas State University has two bike repair stations, a broken bike repair station located in the Derby
Residence Hall courtyard while the other is near the Student Union Plaza, that need to be brought

Helen Tamiris Biography Essay
On April 24, 1903, one of the founders of American modern dance was born to parents who emigrated
from Russia. Helen Tamiris, originally Helen Becker, grew up in New York, New York on the Lower
East Side. In her lifetime, she danced, choreographed, and helped initiate modern dance. Later in her
life, she moved to the Great White Way, otherwise known as Broadway, to choreograph many shows.
In 1911, or at the age of eight, Ms. Tamiris began studying dance at the Henry Street Settlement with

works for herself and others, such as Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, and members of the New
Dance League and Group. Tamiris choreographed works that were forceful and vivacious to express
her belief that life was a conflict.
Between 1928 and 1941, Helen Tamiris choreographed most likely best known works, Negro
Spirituals. In 1928, at her second solo performance, she introduced two of the Negro Spirituals,

that Tamiris performed the solos in Paris and Berlin. In 1929, she added Swing Low, Sweet Chariot to
her show in New York City. Then by 1932, Tamiris was dancing six of her Negro Spirituals. She also
performed the piece Gris Gris Ceremonial with the Bahama Negro Dancers in 1933 at the outdoor

The Significance Of Character Names In The Lottery By...

the event that took place in the small town very summer time of the year, in which one random

short literature, the lottery has been practiced in the small village for over seventy years by its town

Another example, the citizens of the town who participates in an annual lottery drawing each year got
no consequences from participating in it. For instance, the irony of Tessie Hutchinson life when in the
beginning of the story, she presents herself with a nonchalant attitude toward the result from the
lottery. However, Tessie Hutchinson becomes dismayed and distraught when she realizes that she will
the one who sacrificed herself. Her final words in the story are the evidence of her own hypocrites, not
just for her nonchalant attitude, but also for her willingness to sacrifice her own daughter life
(Yarmove, 1994). Secondly, the objects that are presented in Jackson literature not only represent the
symbolized meaning to the annual lottery but also the religious perspective to the event. Jackson
stated in the literature, the children in the small town have already started collecting rocks before the
lottery took place. Each of these children picked the smoothest and roundest rocks; the reason behind
this rock picking is because the jagged and knife like rocks would likely kill the lottery winner faster
than the smooth one. Also, the smooth rocks would grant the lottery winner a slower and painful death
during the murderous event, and that the children of the village would easily follow their elderly
footsteps. Another object that presented in the literature is the black box that the old man Warner and
his assistant, Mr. Graves drew the lottery from.

The SME Competitiveness Model
III COMPETITIVENESS MODEL:
As Engineering colleges are small organizations, they can be compared to a Small and Medium
Enterprise (SME). Hence the SME competitiveness model is employed here in this study. [16] The
modified SME model is presented in Fig 1. Apart from competencies of management and principal,
there are institutional capabilities representing potential of the college, scope representing external
environment, process dimension representing efficiency of resource utilization, and the performance.
Competitive scope, institutional capabilities and competencies of top management together constitute
the potential dimension. And teaching learning is the main aspect of process dimension. The
management needs to create capabilities, scope and set objectives for the institute. These processes are
depicted as the three tasks. Once these tasks are performed efficiently, the institute starts performing.
A good performance builds an image to the institute. A consistent long term performance enhances the
image of the institute. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

adjustments can be made quickly. Quality Factor The different pressures on suppliers to reduce costs
have caused tensions and distortions. It is for this reason, companies find it difficult to establish long

Differences Between New England And Southern Colonies
The three colonial regions varied in their societies and in their economies. New England didn t have
good farming land, but had an abundance in fishing. Middle Colonies had a little more luck in farming
with better soil and some slaves. Southern Colonies had the perfect environment for bunches of crops
and had the most slaves. All three regions did farm and own slaves, but from least amount of slaves to
most it went New England, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. Overall, all the colonies
economies and societies flourished, but each regions were similar and different including religion and
staple crops. In New England s society colonists received large amounts of land. Township grants
were mainly seen in New England, and they were awarded to organize groups of settlers and to divide
land among them. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social life was more stratified as the wealthy class made themselves more distinct and created a gap.
Only plantation owners children were educated and only people who could afford it went to college.
They were not super religious, unlike the New England Puritans, and 1/15 residents were actually
members of the church. In 1642, Virginia officially became Anglican which was popular among large
land owners. In the 18th century Anglican became the official church of the south. The Southern
Colonies had the best economic advantage out of the three regions because of the climate; there was
warm weather, plentiful rainfall, and a longer growing season. In 17th century, tobacco production
soared and tobacco became the staple crop in Maryland and Virginia. It was said that Virginia was
founded upon smoke. Rice became the staple crop in South Carolina and North Carolina became well
known for their production of tar from their pine trees. As plantation land was exhausted, the more
economically profitable they became because they would sell

Horse Thrush Research Paper
In 2006, there were 58,372,106 horses in the world, and that number continues to grow to this day.
People can help keep these horses feet healthy by buying a hoof pick. Horse owners should purchase a
hoof pick because picking out horses feet can prevent thrush, show problems early on, and if their
hooves aren t picked, gravel and dirt can easily be picked up. To begin, if a horse s hooves aren t
picked, a disease called thrush can be caused. Thrush is an infection that eats away at the tissues of the
frog which is located in the hoof. This infection causes discomfort to the horse, and if it gets
unbearable, it can cause lameness. When a horse is exposed to pain in their feet, it won t stand or walk
on it for one of two reasons; it refuses

Explain Why Students Should Not Be Allowed To Have Cell...
Failure to pay attention. Lack of honesty. Poor grades. These are some outcomes of allowing
cellphones in class. Eight ball or word cookies may end up causing you to fail or miss an assignment.
Students should not be allowed to have and use their cellphones because of inequality, distractions,
and dishonesty. To begin with, students should not be allowed to have cell phones in class due to
inequality. Even though most students have cell phones, some do not. Students may be embarrassed if
they don t have a cell phone like all the other students. Another reason why inequality is an issue
because of the lack of power sources. Not all classrooms provide outlets or have enough outlets for
everyone to use. Everyone charging their phones at the same time or looking for an outlet at the same
time would be chaos. Secondly, distractions are a big ordeal in class. Cell phones are a problem due to
sounds and ringtones because they can cause a distraction during a lesson. Maybe in the middle of a
test and all of a sudden a ding or a ring goes off. You get all sidetracked and then lose track of what
you were thinking of or what the answer was. You may be tempted to want to play 8 ball or word
cookies. In the middle of the game the teacher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allowing students to have their cell phones out can allow them to be able to go on the internet and
look up answers to a test or class work. They could text another student and ask them for answers.
Also, allowing students to have cell phones in class, can make a chance for cyber bullying to happen. A
student that may not be friends with another classmate could capture an embarrassing moment for the
student and post it to allow all of his friends to see it. Students could video or take pictures of a
teacher during class which could get the teacher in trouble. Allowing cellphones in class will more
than likely just cause lying and

Romeo And Juliet s Tragedy
Romeo and Juliet s Tragedy Tragedy is an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress. The
shocking love story of Romeo and Juliet ended with two teens hasty decisions to commit suicide.
William Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, focused on the love story of two
teenagers, Romeo and Juliet. For they thought death was the only option, death they chose, but they
thought wrong. Like many others in life, if only Romeo and Juliet had pondered a little longer, waited
till their feelings of desperation dispersed, the tale of Romeo and Juliet could have ended with a
different story. In the moment that Juliet finds out Romeo is dead, she is frozen with shock. With the
lines Juliet says, she proves she made rash and impulsive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a situation where the decision is big and will have a huge impact on life, the decision must be made
with careful and cautious thinking. It is also important to think with a clear mind to be able to
rationally think about the possibilities of each and every choice. Your emotions can point you in a
direction that might not always be leading you to the best choice, says Frank (Heiman 1). Emotions
are factors that might not point in the right direction. At the moment, everything will feel all right until
later on, when the emotions have changed, there will be regrets. It s important to look for the best
possible option instead of settling in with a just okay . . . . they re [teens are] taxing a system that isn t
fully developed, Aguirre says. No wonder some are unable to handle it, and find themselves
overwhelmed (Maclean 1). Because they are teens, their brains aren t fully developed yet. Romeo and
Juliet were not able to handle the stress and weren t able to stand it. Instead of taking the time to sort
out their emotions, they jumped off a cliff without a parachute. The short lives of Romeo and Juliet
could have been prevented if they and those around Romeo and Juliet were able to make decisions
more wisely. Romeo and Juliet made bad decisions like real people. The story shocked many, but very
accurate to real life. As life continues on, many will learn from the story of Romeo and Juliet that
decisions shouldn t be rushed and that they need to be considered from all sides. Nevertheless, the
story of Romeo and Juliet will always be a masterpiece with detailed and realisticrealitistic characters
with flaws like

  • 2. United Airlines Strengths And Weaknesses As one of the largest, publically held companies in the county, it s not surprising that United Airlines has some impressive statistics to its name. The Chicago based airline employs over 87,000 people, operates routes to 360 destinations worldwide, and reported a net profit of $571 million in 2013 (UAL Corporation SWOT Analysis, 2014). While the company has struggled financially in recent years, they ve been able recover by capitalizing on their size and reputation. In this paper we ll examine the history of the airline and look into the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that will impact their future. The future of the Union is in jeopardy so the question is, whether the E.U. should remain as one or dismantle entirely, and what problems to both paths lead to? The European Union should remain because all member countries benefit economically and socially through unity, however the Union needs to agree more on policy instead of populism. When the European Union was established the cause was rooted in European peace. After the Second World War, many European countries found themselves in ruin and saw an emerging superpower in the east in the U.S.S.R. Countries in Europe decided it was in their best interest to form a federation of European countries in order to promote a more safe and secure Europe. • 7. Lao Tzu Leadership Analysis Lao Tzu is considered the Father of Taoism and was searching for an individual s path of natural goodness. He once said Be the Chief, but never the lord. This quote has been very inspirational to me throughout my Coast Guard career and has guided me to my definition of Leadership. A lord is given this title by inheritance or positional power granted by landowners. A Chief is chosen by the village. The person is selected to make the right decisions for the benefit of the people. It is earned. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of leadership is to have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force given to them by rank and expect subordinates to follow. They must demonstrate leading by example and be a role model for others to follow. Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I have seen my definition in my mentors and supervisors. A short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd Reno, Commander John Humpage, CWO4 William Thomas, and BMC Mike Hunt. Their leadership seemed to naturally be in their personalities but I now realize it was so prominent because I saw them as my leaders. Those traits are what made me choose to follow them. The world that we live in is complex and often times, love and reason do not exist interconnect, however, literature acts as the glue in bringing these two elements together. Authors sometimes use the concept of love as a subject for their work, rationally, and carefully using it as a tool in their writing. In this essay, works by different authors during the Romantic, Realist, and Modernist period will be used to exhibit some of the forms of love used in literature. Romanticism was a movement that formed out of the need for authors to be able to freely, and completely, express their emotions and desires within their writings. By definition, romance is a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love . This period, or era, changed how we, as people, viewed love and self. During this time, there was an emphasis placed on ideas that were centered on individualism, nature, and natural human emotion. Nature, and natural beings, was seen as inspiration and invoked imagination, impulsiveness, freedom, and excess while creating a movement that was open to the ordinary individual, even the social outcast. Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre is a perfect example of Romanticism s influence within a work. This work exemplifies the quest to achieve not only romantic love, but self love or growth while experiencing natural human emotions. After being belittled for so long, the ... Adaptive Stream Query Processor is designed and implemented to execute continuous queries and to adapt indefinite data flow by clustering, proper indexing so as to reduce the storage space and fast retrieval of streaming data. STREAM PROCESSOR Streaming processing is the ideal platform to process data streams. Stream processing is designed to analyze and act on real time streaming data, using continuous queries i.e. SQL type queries that operate over time and buffer windows. Essential to stream analytics is Stream Processing, or the ability to continuously calculate mathematical or statistical analytics on the fly within the stream. Stream processing solutions are designed to handle high volume in real time with a scalable, highly available and fault tolerant architecture. This enables analysis of data in motion. Finally query processing is used to retrieve useful information from the stream data. A Stream Query Processor is proposed to achieve fast retrieval of streaming data. Even though people doubted Ellison could build such a large company by buying other companies, he has made Oracle the largest provider of corporate software in the world (Nelson amp; Quick, 2013). The CEO of Oracle has a strong ability to exercise his power and influence in the form of hostile takeovers. A good example of this would be his actions towards the forced resignation of Hewlett Packards CEO Mark Hurd. This happened after an investigation was launched involving allegations of sexual harassment. Larry Ellison quickly blamed the board of trustees at Hewlett Packard for the forced resignation, then he instantly hired Hurd at Oracle (Nelson amp; Quick, 2013). The new CEO of Hewlett Packard became the next target for Ellison, he accused the CEO of overseeing intellectual property theft at his previous job. The CEO of Hewlett Packard fought back against Ellison and stated that the allegations were complete hogwash and untrue (Nelson amp; Quick, 2013). Ellison then went back and questioned Hewlett Packards board of trustees and CEO all together about their competence, intelligence, and integrity. College students across the nation seem to have found considerable value in using bikes to get from point A to point B on campus. However, once their bike has a flat tire or loose handlebars, it becomes inconvenient to ride anymore without properly fixing their bike. The issue is that if something happens on campus and they do not have the ability to fix their bike, it requires them to go out to a bike shop or such to buy the necessary tools. College students do not bring repair tools with them from home because that is not something you think about packing when moving into a new room with limited space. There are students who do not have the extra cash to spare on buying repair tools and some students do not have any other form of transportation besides their bike. I believe that if Kansas State University allowed bike repair stations to be placed near the Student Union, Hale Library, and Derby Residence Halls area, it can help encourage more students to ride their bikes on campus.
