African American with stage IV colon cancer
African Americans carry an uneven share of the cancer load in the United States, having the highest
death rate and shortest survival of any racial or ethnic group for most cancers. In this article, I will
provide updated data for African Americans on cancer rate, death, survival, and cancer screening. I
also estimate the total number of deaths prevented among African Americans as a result of the
decline in cancer death rates since the early 1990s.
Sorry to say, some colon cancers might be present without any signs or symptoms. For this
reason, it is very important to have regular colon screenings or (examinations) to detect these
problems early. The best screening evaluation is a colonoscopy. On the other hand, most colon
cancers are connected with signs or symptoms. One of the early signs of colon cancer is bleeding.
Most of the time , tumors often bleed only small amounts, off and on, so that evidence of the
blood is found only during chemical testing of the stool, which is called a fecal occult blood test.
Other signs and symptoms include:
Change in bowel habits like Constipation, diarrhea, if you workout sometimes you may think it
because you have did strenuous exercise

Some Theorists Believe Cinema Must Be Realistic And May
Some theorists believe cinema must be realistic and may only be seen as art if it remains in its
original form a static image on film stock. Others, however, argue that cinema is an important and
relevant art medium no matter its form. Digital cinema, while making use of new and different
technologies such as animation, is the next step in the evolution of film. Contrary to what certain
theorists believe, it is the most efficient and most artistically inclined way to create films as it
offers a world of possibilities. This is elaborated on in Digital Cinema and the History of a
Moving Image, an excerpt from What Is Cinema? the sixth chapter of The Language of New
Cinema, a book penned by Lev Manovich. Indeed, the author describes how... Show more content

This mobility was acquired thanks to pre cinematic creations such as the Zootrope. What followed
was the debut of cinema as a moving image on film stock. This prompted documentary style short
films, such as L ArrivГ©e d un train en gare Г la Ciotat by Auguste and Louis LumiГЁre, as well
as, later on, fictional feature films, like Charlie Chaplin s Modern Times. However, by mid
2011, 50 per cent of the more than 39,500 North American screens had become digital. [And, in]
the United States, the major distributors have announced that they will cease to distribute films
on 35mm film by the end of 2013. Thus, certain directors such as James Cameron and George
Lucas are advocates for fully digitally shot films. As a matter of fact, in 1984, George Lucas
developed EditDroid and SoundDroid, computerized, electronic non linear editing systems for
image and sound. Furthermore, cinema has evolved in terms of animation as well. In fact, the
types of animation that are currently in use are so entirely different than the kinds filmmakers
had to use in the past. For example, while MeliГЁs was required to hand paint each and every
single one of his film s frames for Le Voyage dans la Lune, James Cameron s Avatar was able to
make use of digital technologies in order to make the film 3D as well as to turn human actors into
the aliens featured in the film. Nevertheless, this new technological development

Happiness Essay
Happiness is something that is wanted by almost everyone;people that are rich, and plebeians and
some like to assert that they are happy. Everyone has a different way of experiencing happiness or
getting happiness. While they try to get happiness even if it will be an ample amount of happiness,
they try to avoid being aghast. Some people like clothing or electronics while some like relaxing at
vacations where they can be around facetious people and enjoy themselves. Each individual person
experiences happinessa different way because some people like to dream about things that are not
plausible and some people like to think about reality. Many people think that it money is an

In the article YOU CAN BUY HAPPINESS, IF IT S AN EXPERIENCEit states, And as people
age, they tend to find more joy in ordinary, everyday experiences like walking or gardening,
compared to that trip to Fiji, another recent study found. People experience joy from experience.
For example, you might enjoy a view when you are on vacation. If you take a picture of that, you
can always come back to look at the picture. This way, people might be able to experience this all
over again and can be a sequel for them since their experiencing something similar. This can bring
them happiness again and their experience won t be pulverized by forgetness.
Finally, experiences are don t cost money. A person might experience something like seeing their
best friend in a long time. This can bring them the same amount of happiness as a new car they
bought might bring them. Even though they both give the same amount of happiness, one cost
thousands of dollars and one is free. In the article STUDY: HIGH INCOMES DON T BRING

Reserve Bank of India came in 1935. During the first phase the growth was very slow and banks
also experienced periodic failures between 1913 and 1948. There were approximately 1100
banks, mostly small. To streamline the functioning and activities of commercial banks, the
Government of India came up with The Banking Companies Act, 1949 which was later changed
to Banking Regulation Act 1949 as per amending Act of 1965 (Act No. 23 of 1965). Reserve
Bank of India was vested with extensive powers for the supervision of banking in India as the
Central Banking Authority. During those days public has lesser confidence in the banks. As an
aftermath deposit mobilisation was slow. Abreast of it the savings bank facility provided by the
Postal department was comparatively safer. Moreover, funds were largely given to traders.

The Sniper 5 Paragraph Essay
We can complain because rose bushes have thorns. Or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses. A
quote by Abraham Lincoln. War has sacrifices and lots of deaths, but these sacrifices and deaths
are what gives us our freedoms. My theme for the story The Sniper is war divides people and
families.
To start, my first topic is that people die during war and get divided from their families, their
people, and the world. My first example is, Then round the corner of a side street came an old
woman, her head covered by a tattered shawl. She began to talk to the man in the turret of the
car. She was pointing to the roof where the sniper lay. An informer. The turret opened. A man s
head and shoulders appeared, looking towards the sniper. The sniper raised his rifle and fired
(438). This proves my topic sentence correct. The informer told secrets and in return the sniper
shot her and the man. To end, based on my evidence, people divide every day from the world.
Next, the story uses war dividing people against themselves. This is supported by the quote, The
sniper liked at his enemy falling and he shuddered. The lust of battle died in him. He became
bitten by remorse (439). This shows that during war, people are faced against themselves and such

When the sniper reached the laneway on the street level, he felt a sudden curiosity as to the
identity of the enemy sniper whom he had killed (439). The story shows a sniper who finds a war
and eventually leads to him getting hurt and the result he killed his brother without knowledge
during the darkness of war and night. This therefore shows people are not only pushed against each
other but their friends and family too. To conclude, this quote shows people harm each other to get
what they want from war. But in this result many hurt or even kill each

This marriage took place due to influences on the part of Catherine s father, King Ferdinand of
Spain. Ferdinand considered England to be a type of vassal state with Catherine as his ambassador.
As the new King, Henry VIII did not waste any time spending his inheritance on lavish living.
Gambling, fine clothes, and fine jewelry were just some of his vices. Shore states that it was
during these early years that Henry VIII confided in Cardinal Wolsey and Thomas More. Henry
VIII and Catherine were close. However, there friendship was supplanted by that of Wolsey barely a
year after Catherine became Queen. Wolsey was given authority within the realm, but the King did
not always agree with his decision which lead to tension and controversy in their relationship. This
is mentioned because it is the beginning of a pattern Henry VIII exhibited in his closest
relationships. As initially with Catherine, his relationships with both Anne Boleynand Thomas
Cromwell followed a similar pattern. Each was someone Henry VIII had relied upon, but who
later fell from favor in the mist of political and social influences at court.
As King, Henry VIII was prideful personally and professionally. In order to compete on an
international scale and to exert his military influence, Henry VIII engaged in conflict with France.
These campaigns were more likely intended to inflate his self image in relation to the kings of both
France and Spain. Shore

British Colonies Differences
Causes of the Differences Between the British and Their Colonies in America Shawn M. Meyer
Ohio Christian University October 28, 2017 Causes of the Differences Between the British and
Their Colonies in America The colonies of North America were ready to rebel from King George
III in the mid 1770s. There was a sense of Americanness amongst the colonists that created a feeling
of separation between the British Colonies of North America and the citizens of the Kingdom
living in the British Isles. Several factors contributed to the sense of Americanness that the colonists
felt which consisted of political, social, and economic factors. By creating a feeling of separation,
the colonies no longer viewed themselves as British, which would cause them to rebel from King
George III. One political factor that contributed to the sense of Americanness was the belief of no
taxation without representation. Since the taxes were being imposed by Parliament, and Parliament
contained no representatives from the colonies, the colonists viewed that the Parliament did not
have the authority to tax them, thus creating the idea of no taxation without representation. This
created a sense of Americanness by showing that the colonists did not feel like a part of Great
Britain, since they were not being represented in the British Parliament. Another political factor that
contributed to the sense of Americanness was the enacting of the Coercive Acts. The Coercive Acts

Pros And Cons Of Gun Control In The United States
Controlling Our Guns is not the Way to go Being a daughter of a game warden and also growing
up in the rural southern parts of Tennessee, I have always been exposed to firearms my entire
life. There is a famous quote that is relevant to gun control, there are no bad guns, only bad men
(Squires, 2002). Placing restrictions on firearms has been one of the biggest political affairs in not
only America but other countries as well. Firearms in America make up $24 billion of our
economy, therefore, we can say that guns play a major role in the U.S. Many people believe
implementing gunlaws and regulations seems to be more of a disadvantage than an advantage to
our country, because gun control has failed in places like Ireland and the United Kingdom.... Show

The definition of gun control involves politics, legislation, and how the use of firearms is being
restricted (Charles, 2015). The main arguments over gun control is mainly a relationship between
the state s powers to regulate public order over citizens (Spitzer, 1998). Controlling our guns does
not reduce crime and violence which has been demonstrated by other countries such as Ireland and
the United Kingdom and the United States government should look to those countries as examples.
When the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution, they wrote it based on justice and what was
fair to the American people. The purpose of the Constitution is to be the law of the land, therefore,
it establishes and maintains order for that provides a guiding hand for citizens (Spitzer, 1998).
Laws banning firearms would only be followed by the law abiding. Citizens living in the United
States have had access to guns since the beginning when they were used to hunt and gather food
and as a mean of protection. Nowadays, hunting is still a sport enjoyed by millions, who already
have many regulations that they must follow. When the Second Amendment was written, it was
meant for everyone is the United States. Its intentions were for Americans to be able to protect
themselves in times of

Essay on Literary Analysis Of The Red D
Literary Analysis of The Masque of the Red Death
In the story, The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe, the author tries to create a specific
atmosphere to emphasize the action within the story. The setting of the story immensely helps to
create this atmosphere. Poe s descriptive setting aids in creating the atmosphere of the story by
developing mood, evoking feelings from the reader, and creating a false sense of security.
The setting of The Masque, which Poe effectively and thoroughly illustrates, helps to create a
desired atmosphere by developing the mood of the story. Poe describes the masque as a gay and
magnificent revel in which the prince had provided all the appliances of pleasure. ... Show more

Each room has two large windows that correspond in color to their respective rooms, excluding the
black apartment in which the windows are stained a blood red color. The last room causes the
reader to have rather dreary, dismal feelings of the room, feelings of uneasiness and death. This is
in direct contrast with all of the other rooms, as they tend to leave the impression of gaiety and
bliss with the reader. The sharp differentiation and vivid description of the last room as compared
to all the others gives the reader the feeling that this room is to be of importance later in the story
and thereby helps create the atmosphere for the story.
In The Masque, Poe also conveys a false sense of security with his first description of the abbey.
He calls it an extensive and magnificent structure which has a strong and lofty wall...[with] gates
of iron encircling it. After the courtiers have entered the abbey, the gates are welded shut, which
the prince believes is enough to keep the disease of the Red Death out. Poe even goes as far as to
state that with such precautions the courtiers might bid defiance to contagion. Poe is trying to
convey the idea that the masqueraders believe that they are completely safe within the abbey, and
then show that when the Red Death appears they could not escape death. This is done so that the
reader can see that the whole

The Video Generation Rx Video
I think these videos were a great way of giving us information on prescription drug abuse and
addiction. Specifically the video Generation Rx video. I think that the fact that it was actual
addicts explain what they went through it got the point across more than anything. Hearing each
of them talk about how they got addicted and how it ruined relationships like with their parents
and even with other addicts. Hearing how some of them were even willing to steal from their
family or how one of the women would leave her own child sitting in its own filth really showed
how much of a hold prescription drugshad over their life. Also, I think this video brought attention
to people s naive views on prescription drugs. People of all ages like to think that only the drugs
that are labeled as illegal are bad for you. but that is not the case at all and this video touches on
that very topic.
Nothing in these videos really shocked me. I think that the videos just added insight to something I
already know. Specifically, the Generation Rxvideo that involved actual addicts talking about
what they went through. I was surprised how they talked about prescription drugs. I ve always
thought that prescription drugs were just as bad if not worse than drugs that aren t prescribed to
you. People have a tendency to think that because a doctor prescribed this to other people they can
take the same drugs and be fine. That is not the case at all, which is why I think prescription drugs

William Domhoff s Who Rules America Essay
Reading G. William Domhoff s Who Rules America?: The Triumph of the Corporate Rich was
an intriguing and challenging experience for me. My limited knowledge base of the American
political class system mostly stems from high school US History classes and listening to my
mom s stories of her experiences in the corporate world. Therefore, I am aware that due to my
prior lack of knowledge on the topics presented in Domhoff s book, I may have misjudged some
of his finer points. Part of my struggles may be largely due to the fact that Domhoff s intended
audience for Who Rules America? is other experts in the field of understanding the sociology of the
corporate eliteand their resources of power. However, I believe that the book has given me a better,
if not complete, understanding of the corporate elite and how they stay in power.
I found the book to be extremely well researched. When Domhoff presents a point, he uses several
sources and logical reasons to back up his theory. For example, when relating the dominance of the
political elite on the government, Domhoff examines the amount of influence the corporate rich
have in our judicial system by investigating the nine Supreme Court judges during the Obama
administration. He discovered that all of them graduated from one of three elite institutions:
Harvard, Yale, or Columbia (Domhoff, 178, 2014). Domhoff treats most of his assertions in a
similar fashion; he uses extensive research backs up his claims. The book explains the

Jean-Luc GodardВґs Breathless
Breathless is in many ways the antithesis of the classical Hollywood cinema; the changes have a
direct effect on the relationship the film has with the viewer. Classical Hollywood cinema includes
standards such as continuity editing, highly motivated, character driven stories and a coherent
narrative structure. Breathless defies these elements of traditional filmmaking, instead defining
what we know as French New Wave. From its opening scene Breathless breaks convention. Michel
Poiccard, the main character in the film, is seen at the beginning but given no introduction. He is
simply standing outside reading a newspaper, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth. There is a
woman in the scene, whose name is never mentioned and never shows... Show more content on

Unlike Hollywood cinema, there is no obvious defining of the characters. Godard uses a real life
person to create more connections between Michel and the audience; while the viewer doesn t
understand the significance of the scene, it is a different way of adding depth to the character.
The way Godard uses camerawork and editing in the film is another way that he uses forms and
standards of cinema in order to purposefully draw the audience s attention to the filmmaking
process. In classic Hollywood cinema, spatial and graphic continuity editing is extremely
important, and often worked to perfection. Editing in Breathless is not used to advance the
storyline or show continuity between scenes, but to echo the rhythms of everyday life. There are
many jump cuts throughout the movie, which is considered a sin in classic cinema. The
interesting thing about the jump cuts is that the dialogue continues uninterrupted despite these
choppy cuts. In one scene, Michel is driving in a car with the American girl he tries to convince
to go with him to Italy, Patricia. He is describing her beauty and the features that he likes about
her, and as he gives each detail, the camera does a jump cut to a shot of Patricia s face. In another
scene, Michel is in Patricia s apartment. As they are talking, the jump cuts make the entire scene
appear to be a montage rather than one continuous scene. The jump cuts don t add to the narrative
or continuity of the scene in any way; they are

The Dalai Lama
The story of the Dalai Lama has been told and repeated innumerable times and usually leans
toward the personality, ideas and teachings of the current Dalai Lama who is the 14th incarnation
named Tenzin Gyatso. This paper, instead, revolves around the position and concept of the role of
the Dalai Lama. The conception of the Dalai Lamaoriginated in Tibetan Buddhism and comes from
a line of learned preachers, known as tulkus, that are considered to be the incarnations of the
Boddhisattva of compassion, Avalokitesvara. This idea of reincarnation of a soul is uncommon in
other forms and schools of Buddhism which, accordingly, sets Tibetan Buddhism apart and
establishes the foundation upon which the Dalai Lama exists. I will be discussing the role of the
Dalai Lama through the exploration of Tibetan Buddhism and the previously mentioned terms
Avalokitesvara, Boddhisattva, tulkus and more. I will also consider the Dalai Lama s role as both
a spiritual and secular head of the Tibetan State.
The title of Boddhisattva is given to those who take the vow to become a fully enlightened buddha
yet stay in the samsaric cycle of rebirth out of sheer compassion to aid others in attaining nirvana.
Avalokitesvara is considered to have been one of the first to have made the vow to postpone their

1860 Economic Growth
The United States government encouraged economic growth greatly between the years 1860
1900. The United States government during the Civil War era was run by the Republicans. The
Republicans held the majority in Congress in 1860 because the southern states had seceded from
the Union. This majority gave the republicans the power to implement the policies in their
platform which was based on the American System. The Republican platform of 1860 was
centered on encouraging economic growth and developing a national economy. A few specific
policies that the Republicans passed were the Pacific Railway Act, the Morill Tariff, and the Morill
Land Grant Act. Each of these three policies were aimed at encouraging economic growth in our
nation. The republicans passed many laws with the sole purpose of encouraging economic growth
and developing a strong economy. The US government could be considered somewhat laissez faire
in their neglect to place much needed regulations on big business and corporations. Despite this
fact, the United Statesgovernment was definitely not laissez faire during this time period due to the
fact that they took a very active role in our nation s economy. Without the policies passed by the
national government during this time period, it is highly unlikely that our nation s economy would

A Farewell Of Arms By Ernest Hemingway
In his novel A Farewell to Arms Ernest Hemingway wrote, We re going to have a strange life.
(D). His life was not ordinary by any means; he became the voice of his generation with his
poignant works capturing the emotions of the American people after World War I. In his novel A
Farewell to Arms Ernest Hemingwayattempts to demonstrate through the characters of Frederic
Henry and Rinaldi the feelings of horror and disillusionment the people of the Modern era tried to
escape.
Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899, in the suburbs of Chicago to a middle
class family. As the oldest of six children, Hemingway was very close with his mother even
though he often disagreed with her values (Shuman, R. Baird 897). Hemingway s passion for the
outdoors was instilled in him at a young age when his family would spend summers in the
woods of northern Michigan ( Hemingway, Ernest ). After graduating from Oak Park High
School in 1917, Hemingway decided to continue doing what he loved instead of going to
college; he began working for The Kansas City Star as a reporter where he began to develop his
unique writing style (Shuman, R. Baird 897). After the newspaper ran an article about the war,
Hemingway decided to enlist ( Hemingway, Ernest ). Hemingway was disappointed when he was
quickly rejected by the U.S. Army because of his poor eyesight; determined to help Hemingway

Critique Of Death Of A Salesman
Death of a Salesman is a story of a man who wants to be a successful businessman and dreams of
the same thing for his sons. The story goes on to explain how Loman s hard work does not pay.
In other words, today s society is filled with people who do not get the credit they deserve for the
little things they do in life. Loman is an example of 20th century people who resort to illusion in
order to gain some dignity. The author, Arthur Miller, tells the story of a sales man who faces the
end of his life without fulfilling his idealistic ambitions.
For a hard work he puts in, he does not get appreciate it for. For instance, Loman would drive 700
miles to work and come home without even earing a cent. He had to borrow money from Charley,
his next door neighbour, just to provide food on the table so that he could provide a future for his
sons. I think that Loman should have acknowledged that his two sons never even took the time out

Loman Willy is low man. No great hero, he is already so low on the ladder that he has hardly
anywhere to fall. I believe, the meaning of names has a lot of impact on one s life. In this case,

for his family since his other suicide attempts would not let the insurance company pay the family

While reading about death of a salesman I believe this is biographical criticism. Since at that time
the American society was evolving in to what is known as 1950 s traditional family structure.
Another reason as it is biographical criticisms is because the author is alluding to his struggles
through a character called Willy Loman. The author is taking about the time when the family had to

Glycolytic Pathway
Energy needed to function comes from the conversion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to
adenosine diphosphate (ADP). To keep a continuous supply of ATP, ATP is resynthesized using one
of the three energy pathways. The three energy pathways are the phosphagen, anaerobic and aerobic
systems.
The phosphagen system known as the ATP CP pathway, uses creatine phosphate (CP) to
resynthesize ATP. CP re bonds ADP to produce ATP after it is broken down. The ATP CP pathway
is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for short term
high intensity activities. Two exercises that utilize the ATP CP pathway are weightlifting and
sprinting.
The anaerobic system known as the glycolytic pathway, uses glucose to produce ATP. Glucose is
broken down into pyruvate through glycolysis to produce ATP. The amount of energy produced is
very little, but you get the energy quickly. The glycolytic pathway is the second fastest way to
resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for large bursts activities. Two
exercises that utilize the glycolytic pathway are powerlifting such as bench press and deadlift.
The aerobic system known as the oxidative pathway, uses oxygen to produce ATP and is the most
complex of the three energy systems. The oxidative pathway uses blood glucose, glycogen ... Show

The Effects Of Salmon Farming On The Salmon Population Essay
Introduction
Fish, one of our most important sources of high quality protein, provides some 16% of the animal
protein consumed by the world s population, (Food Agriculture Organization, FAO, of the United
Nations, 1997). Our responses towards a growing demand for fish led to a boom in the salmon
farming industry (Naylor, et al., 1998). Unfortunately, the consequences of salmon farming
outweigh the value that comes with it. Even though salmon farming is steadily becoming more
sustainable, salmon farming is not a suitable and environmentally sound way of producing food due
to the negative issues salmon farming has caused in the environment, the salmon population, and
the health of humans.
Salmon farming effects to wild salmon population
Scientists of various fields have found that escaped salmon from fisheries have negatively
impacted the salmon population. The gradual increase of salmon farming has led to a higher rate
of escaped salmon reaching local ecosystems. As farmed salmon escape through weather events,
poor containment, careless handling, etc. the local ecology changes dramatically. In McGinnity s
study (2003), farmed salmon have been found to breed poorly and have difficulty surviving in
comparison to wild salmon. The study was carried out in Western Ireland and highlighted the
behavioral differences between wild salmon against various generations of hybrid salmon. It was
found that farmed salmon and hybrid salmon (various mixed farmed wild breeds) carry the

Ancient Roman Entertainment Essay
Citizens in ancient Rome held their entertainment close. Entertainment was free, and appealed to all
social classes, from slaves to the emperor. Two forms of entertainment are chariot racing and
gladiator fights. These were two of the more popular forms of entertainment available to the average
Roman citizens.
The first form of entertainment I am going to talk about is chariot racing. Chariot racing was the
most popular form of entertainment. It appealed to all social classes, from the lowly slaves to the
senators and the emperor. Juvenal s famous saying panem et circenses has become a sign of
entertainment appeasing people throughout the ages. Although there was no public betting one the
races, there was a large amount of private betting that went on and the chance of earning money
probably attracted even more popularity to the races. The races were so popular that many
household items were decorated with symbols from the racing.
The racers were divided into four different teams, called factions (factiones). These were coloured
and their names came from the colours themselves: the Greens, the Reds, the Blues and the Whites.
The green and blue factions were the most powerful, and later on in the empire, they absorbed the
other two into their ranks. The factions were not just racing teams, they also had political influence.
Most Roman citizens became racing fanatics, supporting one of the factions. Some citizens even
resorted to magic to foul their opponents, showed

Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy Essay
The poem, Barbie Doll, written by Marge Piercy tells the story of a young girl growing up
through the adolescence stage characterized by appearances and barbarity. The author uses
imagery and fluctuating tone to describe the struggles the girl is experiencing during her teenage
years, and the affects that can happen. The title of this poem is a good description of how most
societies expect others, especially girls to look. Constantly, people are mocked for their
appearance and expected to represent a barbie doll like figure. Few are blessed with this
description. The femalegender is positioned into the stereotype that women should be thin and
beautiful. With this girl, the effects were detrimental. The first stanza describes the... Show more

It s ironic that this particular word is used because puberty is actually a stage of emotional crisis .
A hurtful remark was made towards the child, and she was described as having a big nose and fat
legs. The second stanza also begins with the subdued tone mentioning the girls positive aspects,
such as being healthy...intelligent...strong. These specific details are usually related to the male.
Once again, the gender characteristics play as an underlying factor. These qualities were not good
enough for a woman if they were not beautiful. The stanza then takes a turn like the first turning
away from the simplicity. The girl went to and fro apologizing, while everyone still saw a fat
nose on thick legs. Society places women into the mold where they begin to put on a facade and
apologize for their misfortunes. In the third stanza, the girl was advised to play coy...(and)
smile. Women are once again pressured to act in a way that is unreal, like a barbie doll. The fan
belt mention in this stanza is used as imagery to describe how one s facade can wear out over
time, as hers did. She cut off her nose and her legs, in response to this. The character Nora in A
Doll s House, is a perfect example of how women are like dolls and do what they are told or what
society expects of them. It is only in the last stanza where the girl is dead and has consummation at
last. She is finally given a compliment when someone said,

unlike his father, Unoka. Okonkwo always had a desire for power, which was caused by his lazy

being his desire for power. Achebe shows that even power, religion, and lack of knowledge cannot

Irony In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Flannery O Conner, a Gothic literature writer, has written several short stories throughout her life.
Among these stories, two of them being A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People,
she has included some of the most fleshed out and grotesque characters I have ever read. O Conner
brings her characters to life throughout her writing in near flawless and subtle detail with ironic
humor. For example, O Conner makes skillful use of ironic names for her characters. The titles and
names such as grandmother, the misfit, Joy/Hulga, and the bible salesman are used ironically.
These subtle characterizations help guide the reader to the final, and often times ironic, conclusions
all her characters deserve.

He further explains how as a result of people focusing on her status as a grandmother rather than
how she behaves, most people dismiss her annoying nagging and racist comments (1). In the text of
A Good Man is Hard to Find, when the grandmother and the children are dancing, O Conner
emphasizes how one may see the grandma as a harmless happy person when the grandma asks
her son Bailey to dance. He refuses, claiming he does not have a sunny disposition like his mother
who is able to just get up and dance. Unfortunately, I must agree with Bandy because it is
something most people tend to do, and it is important to beyond a person s outward appearance.
As Bandy mentions, the grandmother and the misfit are often intertwined in many critics
reviews of A Good Man is Hard to Find (1). One of the most obvious ironies they share is that
you perceive one as being the opposite of the other for the wrong reasons. With the grandmother,
as stated before, one may assume her to be a good person, while she is in fact the opposite.
While the Misfit would most likely be associated as a murderer and a horrible monster, he in fact
is a decent human being. Wynne emphasizes the humor in the grandmother s attempt to save
herself by calling the Misfit one of her children (1). As if she is good and therefore he, being of
the same good blood, must also be good. In these aspects I completely agree with these writer s
interpretations of the grandmother and the

Mediterranean Diet Essay
Introduction In our world today, dementia is a rising problem in the elderly population. This
study aims to find if the Mediterranean diet (MeDi) lowers the risk of developing degenerative
diseases such as dementia, or if it prevents cognitive decline. There have been many previous
cohort studies that have researched the correlation between the MeDi and chronic diseases.
However; research determining how exactly nutrients consumed with the MeDi affect cognition
and the possible development of dementia has yet to be completed. This study intends to
specifically look at how five individual cognitive functions and dementia are impacted as one
ages, by varying levels of adherence to the MeDi. The researchers recorded the subjects intake of
the MeDi based on a priori; which is a questionnaire that lets the researchers know the subjects
eating habits and exactly what food groups and macronutrients they are consuming to accurately
find the affects they yield in the brain. Clinical neuropsychologists evaluated each participant for
thorough cognitive results, to gain the most in depth conclusions possible Subjects The subjects
for this study were adults of 64 years of age and over, from a previous study called the Hellenic

The physical health problems caused by the computers for children
Introduction
The invention of the electronic tools e.g. computers make people lead an efficient and convenient
life. The efficiency, convenience and practicability of the electronic tools e.g. computers attract
both adults and children, and make them use these tools in their daily life (ThomГ©e, 2015). As
has been seen, the use of computers and in adults work is becoming more frequent and majority
of children use these tools in their daily life as well. However, the long time use of computers may
caused some problems, and one of the problems is the physical health problem. When using a
computer, no matter a laptop or a desktop, the user do not need to move. These behavior would
normally be defined as sedentary behavior, which may make the user to do less physical exercise, fit
less physically and suffer more risk of health problems. The problem may be solved by three
solutions, the first seems to make children use computer in a right posture, the second may be some
physical exercises and another solution seems to decrease children s time spent on computers.
Physical health problem caused by computers
According to Kimmerly (2009), over 90% of children aged 3 18 in the US used computers, and
with children aged, more children started to use computer related activities. However, the long
time of uses of these electronic tools may lead to physical health problems to children. For example

There really have only been studies conducted on people with possible SAD since 1984 when a
man named Norman E. Rosenthal actually defined the psychological disorder (Lam). Since
Rosenthal defined SAD as a syndrome characterized by recurrent depressions that occur annually at
the same time each year characterized by hypersomnia, overeating, and carbohydrate craving
(Newsome), there have been several studies conducted and published on people with possible
SAD. Many of the studies that have been published for the general public focus mainly on the
different forms of treatment for SAD, such as light therapy and different forms of Phototherapy,
rather than focusing on the cause. Discovering the main causes of SAD would help to clearly
identify who is actually in need of treatment related to light therapy compared to anti depressants.
In my situation I had symptoms that were both characteristic of what identified SAD patients and
patients suffering from mild forms of depression. When symptoms of one disorder are so closely

Tet Offensive Tactics
While serving in the Marine Corps infantry, it was drilled into my head that in order to win on the
battlefield, one needed to strike faster, harder, and more aggressive than the enemy. These tactics
have proven to be very efficient on the front lines, and have won countless battles for many U.S.
troops. Though our actions on the front lines may be very effective, they are not the only deciding
factors in winning the war. Without the support from the people back home, our battlefield
objectives would be very hard to obtain. America learned this lesson first hand during the Vietnam
war, and more specifically, during the attacks of the Tet Offensive.

with some of the motives that sparked the conflict. In order to understand the full picture of the

Next, I will be discussing the events of the Tet Offensive and the battles that followed. The
massive attack launched against U.S. troops during the Tet Offensive caused a shift in the war
that had many negative outcomes for America. Following the events of the Tet Offensive, I will
discuss the media s role in the conflict. The Vietnam War was the first American war to be

availability of combat footage led to the spark of many antiwar movements. Many antiwar protests
took place at universities, such as the University of South Carolina, and in the nation s capital. I

The Learning Progression For Literacy
The act of reading is a process that involves a complexity of cognitive processes and
developmental stages. Recent research has shifted the paradigm of thinking of what range of skills
serves as the foundation of literacy. Skilled readers need language development, conceptual
knowledge base, and a broad vocabulary. Children must have sufficient decoding skills that are
composed of smaller elements of speech known as phonological awareness and letter sound
correspondence. In addition, readers must have the ability to fluently and easily recognize these
words. But to attain a high level of skills, young children need opportunities to develop these
strands, not in isolation, but interactively. (Neuman, Copple, Bredekamp, 2000)
The Stages of Reading Chall s developmental stages of reading clearly define the learning
progression for literacy. It is evident that language is the vital component of a reading foundation.
The Pre reading stage marks the importance of oral language development. Verbal abilities are
consistently the best predictors of later reading achievement (Scarborough, 2001). This beginning
stage demonstrates how the visual perceptual and cognitive processes are at work (Cunningham
2000). As the child progresses to Stage 1, the sounds are starting to make a connection with letter
strings within words (grapho phonic cues). Now the child understands what the D sound is
representing. Letter combinations are making their way into long term memory to form the

Pressure Management on a supercritical aerofoil in transonic flow Abstract At transonic speeds

There are a few scholars that share the same view as John Paul II, and explore the different ways
that God can be present on a scientific platform. As scholar Arthur Peacocke says, the history of
theology shows that its development is intimately related to the understanding of the natural,
including the human, world that has prevailed at different periods. From a theologian s own
perspective, God himself has given the world the kind of being it has and it must be in some
respects, to be ascertained, revelatory of God s nature and purposes. Therefore, theology should
seek to coincide with scientific perspectives on the natural world. Corresponding to this, the
sciences should not be surprised if their perspectives are seen to be partial and incomplete and to
raise questions not able to be answered from within their own realm of understanding, because
there are other realities that are not apparent by the sciences as such (Peacocke). The concepts of
faith and reason occupy separate realms of reality and believers in one or the other should not
attempt to have domain in the other discipline. This is where the conflict can enter in. In the
academic setting, theology has had increased interaction with philosophy and reason. As a separate
academic field, philosophy ought to continue its search for the meaning of life and in the process
consider spiritual realities, while theology continues to proclaim the Gospel to the world. While the

Hawking s A Briefer History
Steven Hawking s A Briefer History in Time tells a simplified story of the universe. Hawking s
starts out the book by going over the different type of cosmology that was held throughout history.
He mentions the beliefs that Aristotle, Copernicus, Galileo and other notable individuals held about
the universe. This discussion is used to segue into a brief description of the different theories,
laws, and ideas concerning the universe held by people today. Newton s laws of motion and
gravity and Einstein s theory of relativity are only some of the models that Hawking discusses.
Thus, the main purpose of Hawking s A Briefer History in Time is to inform the readers of the
development in our understanding of how the universe works. In his conclusion, Hawking s
specifically includes the term Mind of God (142). I believe that for Hawking, to understand the
mind of God is to understand the workings of the universe and our place in it. Hawking s A
Briefer History of Time also asserts that it is possible to know the mind of God. In essence,
although, Hawking does not explicitly say that we can explain the world without God, he does use
the theories of others to question the existence of God. Although, Hawking s discussion of the
theories concerning the universe can be seen as contradictory to the idea of an absolute God, the
theories coincide and broaden my understanding of God.
Hawking s explanation of Newton s models portrays the universe as complex because of the
relative state of

Carp Research Paper
Caring for Carp
The welfare of the carp is something that every carp angler should be concerned about. For some
reason there are still anglers about who donВґt possess an unhooking mat.
The use of a safety lead system is a must whilst fishing for carp. If a hooked fish gets snagged or
the mainline gets cut off whilst playing a fish and it is not able to free itself from the line and
lead it will sooner or later die which is totally unacceptable for any angler.
Once a fish has been played out and is ready for the net it should be treated with great care.
A good quality landing net with a soft and carp friendly mesh like the Fox Folding Landing Net or
the Hutchinson Springlock net is essential for landing the fish.
When the carp is in the net the landing net arms can be folded together and the carp can then be
carried to the unhooking mat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bigger the mat the better. On a large mat a lively carp will be much safer than on a small one.
Before you lay the carp onto the unhooking mat make sure the mat is wet.
Personally I use the Deluxe Safe Mat XXL from Pelzer which is excellent as itВґs well padded ,
very large and it has an extra cover with which the carp can be covered when itВґs on the mat and
starts flapping lively. If you have to play and land fish from the boat make sure that the fish is safe
on the unhooking mat in the boat. IВґve always got two Hutchinson Be safe Flat mats on the
bottom of my boat. They cover the whole length of the bottom of my Zodiac so a carp that has
been netted from the boat and been lifted onboard wonВґt be able get hurt on the journey back to
the bank.
Normally I try to unhook a carp as soon as it is in the boat and then row back to the bank as I think
thatВґs better for the carp (it canВґt get tangled in the rig,

Arguments Against Signature Strikes
Following the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 President Bush inspired the term War on
Terror that expressed the fight against terrorist groups. Subsequently, the use of armed aerial drones
has become the United States signature attack for counter terrorism. After the attack the Bush
administration began the target killing of suspects involved in terrorist attacks (Rowman Littlefield
2016 p.13). A variation of target killing is signature strikes in which suspected militants and anyone
considered a possible suspect is targeted based on their behavioral characteristics. In the case of a
signature strike the target is unknown. Although drones are not new, the emergence of armed
drones remains the topic of many debates. The application... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Target killing and signature strikes specifically remain quite problematic. The exercising of
signature strikes has lent a hand in killing many innocent civilians. People associate or in proximity
of suspected militants will unsuspectingly suffer the consequences. Numerous victims to signature
strikes persist with a lack of governmental acknowledgment reflecting remorse or regret to value
the lives of those they took impulsively. The main problem within the context of signature strikes
concerns targeted suspected militants whose identity are completely unknown. These suspects
haven t been proven guilty, so in a way the government may seem a little trigger happy as they kill
based on inclinations rather than certainty and refuse to consider other possibilities to assume the
suspects are innocent. Signature strikes, once again, are strikes that target and kill on the basis of
patterns of behavior mimicking that of a terrorist. A deeper look into this and we could question on
who has created these criteria of patterns of behaviors where such behaviors of militant, terrorist
were derived

Animal Cruelty, By Walt Disney
Waking up hours before the dawn, and to know the utter silence of a late autumn morning. Hearing
the crunch of snow under your boots as you begin the hike into the distant, silent mountains.
Smelling the pines along the trail, and see the silent sentinel spruces on the ridge, barely glimpsed
in the pre dawn dark. It s enough to sit, shivering, at the best spot on the top rim of a remote basin,
watching the east grow bright, waiting for the first rays of warm sunshine to break through the trees
and drive away the bitter cold of night. Although some people think that huntingis animal cruelty, I
believe that hunting is crucial to maintain the balance of animal population before they become
over populated. Hunting in general is a broad topic so, I will be using deeras the main point.
Walt Disney has had a hand in how hunters are portrayed. Bambi, released in 1942, portrayed
hunters as heartless people, killing Bambi s mother and leaving the fawn to learn to survive.
Disney also came out with a television show based on Davy Crockett s life. The series
celebrated Crockett s ability as a hunter and resulted in a children s fad of wearing coonskin caps
and carrying toy Crockett buffalo rifles. Disney has used movies to make us see both sides. In
1980, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) was formed; its slogan was, Animals
are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment. Hunting has been a very
controversial topic for many years and

Fate In Ancient Greece And The Iliad
Fate greatly affects a person s day to day life, regardless of where, and when a person lived.
Whether fate was decided and set in stone, or if considered more fluid and changing, fate
influences a society. Even today, people will base choices on fate and leave decisions up to fate,
whether to cease anxieties over a big life change, or deciding that it was faith that you found
twenty dollars on the sidewalk and you deserve to splurge on ice cream. A society interacts with the
divine through fate. Because religionin every culture is different, fate as a concept differs from
culture to culture, but every culture has a good and a bad ending. Without the outcome of a good
or bad fate, there would be no need for religion. Because of the possibility... Show more content on

There are differences in the interpretation of cultural aspects in Greek and Roman literature.
Greece and Rome both place heavy significance on fate, although, what defines fate is seemingly
different in the Golden Ass when compared to the Iliad. In the Iliad, the characters appear to
understand their predetermined fate as soldiers, then to the left our ready arms apply, / And live
with glory, or with glory die (Homer 245), even though, individually, characters may ignore
prophecies which ultimately predict their fate. In the Iliad, whether because of divine
intervention or destiny, the characters have little impact on their own fate. In the Golden Ass,
fate is never outright predetermined, and the characters individual actions matter. Although it
may be alluded to, in stories like Lucius s, it is unknown how the story will end, until it has
ended. In the Iliad, because of the prophecy, the reader knows Achilles will win the war for the
Greeks, and according to Zeus s golden scale, Hector is doomed to die and cannot be saved. In
the Iliad, the fate of Achilles is somewhat predestined to be a war hero. This prediction is lived
out by Achilles, as he returns to the war and ultimately defeats the Trojans for Greece, and is
declared a hero. Fate is seen as concrete, and unchanging. This is seen in most Greek literature, but
in the Iliad, the entirety of the book is based on

The Benefits of Youth Sport Essay
One thing almost every young child looks forward to is the activity of play. Kids love nothing
more than to go outside, run around with friends, and get dirty. If children are already active at a
young age, why not encourage them to continue by enrolling them in an organized youth sport
program? Young people will gain many positive experiences by participating in organized physical
activities, but none as important and influential as the social skills, physical skills, and mental
skills developed and nurtured during their time in youthsport. As a result, the young participants can
continue to build upon and cultivate these skills which will ultimately be transferred into their

A prosperous restaurant needs greeters, servers, cooks, and so forth, as well as the managers.
Their ability to work as a team is crucial to its success. You may not have the same interests or
beliefs of those you work with, but that cannot stand in the way of carrying out your job. The
same principles and strategies are relevant and important in sports, and they can be started and
nurtured through involvement in organized youth sports activities. Many youth sports are part of
community organized after school programs. There are many different types of these programs
such as T Ball, Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football, soccer, martial arts, cheerleading,
and so forth. There are over 40 million youth participating in organized sports, and both girls and
boys have a dazzling array of choices and can play a sport year round (Le Menestrel and Perkins
13). Communities use youth sport as an outlet to encourage social activity, a healthy lifestyle, and
skill development for that particular sport. For example, Participation in organized sports can
provide opportunities for youth to learn more about specific skills and exercises associated with a
particular sport (Perkins and Noam 76). These programs offer opportunities to boost skills and
connect positively with others. Without these activities, parents will have to find another
developmental setting that may not give similar or beneficial outcomes as those of organized youth
sport. Studies found that, Sports

  • 2. African American With Stage Iv Colon Cancer African American with stage IV colon cancer Jasper folks Kaplan University HS305: Research Methods for Health Sciences Prof: B. Marie Brady Whitcanac 12/2/2014 African American with stage IV colon cancer African Americans carry an uneven share of the cancer load in the United States, having the highest death rate and shortest survival of any racial or ethnic group for most cancers. In this article, I will provide updated data for African Americans on cancer rate, death, survival, and cancer screening. I also estimate the total number of deaths prevented among African Americans as a result of the decline in cancer death rates since the early 1990s. Sorry to say, some colon cancers might be present without any signs or symptoms. For this reason, it is very important to have regular colon screenings or (examinations) to detect these problems early. The best screening evaluation is a colonoscopy. On the other hand, most colon cancers are connected with signs or symptoms. One of the early signs of colon cancer is bleeding. Most of the time , tumors often bleed only small amounts, off and on, so that evidence of the blood is found only during chemical testing of the stool, which is called a fecal occult blood test. Other signs and symptoms include: Change in bowel habits like Constipation, diarrhea, if you workout sometimes you may think it because you have did strenuous exercise ... • 3. Some Theorists Believe Cinema Must Be Realistic And May Some theorists believe cinema must be realistic and may only be seen as art if it remains in its original form a static image on film stock. Others, however, argue that cinema is an important and relevant art medium no matter its form. Digital cinema, while making use of new and different technologies such as animation, is the next step in the evolution of film. Contrary to what certain theorists believe, it is the most efficient and most artistically inclined way to create films as it offers a world of possibilities. This is elaborated on in Digital Cinema and the History of a Moving Image, an excerpt from What Is Cinema? the sixth chapter of The Language of New Cinema, a book penned by Lev Manovich. Indeed, the author describes how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This mobility was acquired thanks to pre cinematic creations such as the Zootrope. What followed was the debut of cinema as a moving image on film stock. This prompted documentary style short films, such as L ArrivГ©e d un train en gare Г la Ciotat by Auguste and Louis LumiГЁre, as well as, later on, fictional feature films, like Charlie Chaplin s Modern Times. However, by mid 2011, 50 per cent of the more than 39,500 North American screens had become digital. [And, in] the United States, the major distributors have announced that they will cease to distribute films on 35mm film by the end of 2013. Thus, certain directors such as James Cameron and George Lucas are advocates for fully digitally shot films. As a matter of fact, in 1984, George Lucas developed EditDroid and SoundDroid, computerized, electronic non linear editing systems for image and sound. Furthermore, cinema has evolved in terms of animation as well. In fact, the types of animation that are currently in use are so entirely different than the kinds filmmakers had to use in the past. For example, while MeliГЁs was required to hand paint each and every single one of his film s frames for Le Voyage dans la Lune, James Cameron s Avatar was able to make use of digital technologies in order to make the film 3D as well as to turn human actors into the aliens featured in the film. Everyone has a different way of experiencing happiness or getting happiness. While they try to get happiness even if it will be an ample amount of happiness, they try to avoid being aghast. Some people like clothing or electronics while some like relaxing at vacations where they can be around facetious people and enjoy themselves. This way, people might be able to experience this all over again and can be a sequel for them since their experiencing something similar. This can bring them happiness again and their experience won t be pulverized by forgetness. Finally, experiences are don t cost money. A person might experience something like seeing their best friend in a long time. This can bring them the same amount of happiness as a new car they bought might bring them. Even though they both give the same amount of happiness, one cost thousands of dollars and one is free. • 6. The Sniper 5 Paragraph Essay We can complain because rose bushes have thorns. Or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses. A quote by Abraham Lincoln. War has sacrifices and lots of deaths, but these sacrifices and deaths are what gives us our freedoms. My theme for the story The Sniper is war divides people and families. To start, my first topic is that people die during war and get divided from their families, their people, and the world. My first example is, Then round the corner of a side street came an old woman, her head covered by a tattered shawl. She began to talk to the man in the turret of the car. She was pointing to the roof where the sniper lay. An informer. The turret opened. A man s head and shoulders appeared, looking towards the sniper. The sniper raised his rifle and fired (438). This proves my topic sentence correct. The informer told secrets and in return the sniper shot her and the man. To end, based on my evidence, people divide every day from the world. Next, the story uses war dividing people against themselves. This is supported by the quote, The sniper liked at his enemy falling and he shuddered. The lust of battle died in him. He became bitten by remorse (439). This shows that during war, people are faced against themselves and such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This therefore shows people are not only pushed against each other but their friends and family too. To conclude, this quote shows people harm each other to get what they want from war. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This marriage took place due to influences on the part of Catherine s father, King Ferdinand of Spain. Ferdinand considered England to be a type of vassal state with Catherine as his ambassador. As the new King, Henry VIII did not waste any time spending his inheritance on lavish living. Gambling, fine clothes, and fine jewelry were just some of his vices. Shore states that it was during these early years that Henry VIII confided in Cardinal Wolsey and Thomas More. Henry VIII and Catherine were close. However, there friendship was supplanted by that of Wolsey barely a year after Catherine became Queen. Wolsey was given authority within the realm, but the King did not always agree with his decision which lead to tension and controversy in their relationship. This is mentioned because it is the beginning of a pattern Henry VIII exhibited in his closest relationships. As initially with Catherine, his relationships with both Anne Boleynand Thomas Cromwell followed a similar pattern. Each was someone Henry VIII had relied upon, but who later fell from favor in the mist of political and social influences at court. As King, Henry VIII was prideful personally and professionally. In order to compete on an international scale and to exert his military influence, Henry VIII engaged in conflict with France. These campaigns were more likely intended to inflate his self image in relation to the kings of both France and Spain. Shore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. British Colonies Differences Causes of the Differences Between the British and Their Colonies in America Shawn M. Meyer Ohio Christian University October 28, 2017 Causes of the Differences Between the British and Their Colonies in America The colonies of North America were ready to rebel from King George III in the mid 1770s. There was a sense of Americanness amongst the colonists that created a feeling of separation between the British Colonies of North America and the citizens of the Kingdom living in the British Isles. Several factors contributed to the sense of Americanness that the colonists felt which consisted of political, social, and economic factors. By creating a feeling of separation, the colonies no longer viewed themselves as British, which would cause them to rebel from King George III. One political factor that contributed to the sense of Americanness was the belief of no taxation without representation. Since the taxes were being imposed by Parliament, and Parliament contained no representatives from the colonies, the colonists viewed that the Parliament did not have the authority to tax them, thus creating the idea of no taxation without representation. This created a sense of Americanness by showing that the colonists did not feel like a part of Great Britain, since they were not being represented in the British Parliament. Another political factor that contributed to the sense of Americanness was the enacting of the Coercive Acts. The Coercive Acts consisted of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Pros And Cons Of Gun Control In The United States Controlling Our Guns is not the Way to go Being a daughter of a game warden and also growing up in the rural southern parts of Tennessee, I have always been exposed to firearms my entire life. There is a famous quote that is relevant to gun control, there are no bad guns, only bad men (Squires, 2002). Placing restrictions on firearms has been one of the biggest political affairs in not only America but other countries as well. Firearms in America make up $24 billion of our economy, therefore, we can say that guns play a major role in the U.S. Many people believe implementing gunlaws and regulations seems to be more of a disadvantage than an advantage to our country, because gun control has failed in places like Ireland and the United Kingdom.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of gun control involves politics, legislation, and how the use of firearms is being restricted (Charles, 2015). The main arguments over gun control is mainly a relationship between the state s powers to regulate public order over citizens (Spitzer, 1998). Controlling our guns does not reduce crime and violence which has been demonstrated by other countries such as Ireland and the United Kingdom and the United States government should look to those countries as examples. When the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution, they wrote it based on justice and what was fair to the American people. The purpose of the Constitution is to be the law of the land, therefore, it establishes and maintains order for that provides a guiding hand for citizens (Spitzer, 1998). Laws banning firearms would only be followed by the law abiding. Citizens living in the United States have had access to guns since the beginning when they were used to hunt and gather food and as a mean of protection. Nowadays, hunting is still a sport enjoyed by millions, who already have many regulations that they must follow. When the Second Amendment was written, it was meant for everyone is the United States. • 10. Essay on Literary Analysis Of The Red D Literary Analysis of The Masque of the Red Death In the story, The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe, the author tries to create a specific atmosphere to emphasize the action within the story. The setting of the story immensely helps to create this atmosphere. Poe s descriptive setting aids in creating the atmosphere of the story by developing mood, evoking feelings from the reader, and creating a false sense of security. The setting of The Masque, which Poe effectively and thoroughly illustrates, helps to create a desired atmosphere by developing the mood of the story. Poe describes the masque as a gay and magnificent revel in which the prince had provided all the appliances of pleasure. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each room has two large windows that correspond in color to their respective rooms, excluding the black apartment in which the windows are stained a blood red color. The last room causes the reader to have rather dreary, dismal feelings of the room, feelings of uneasiness and death. This is in direct contrast with all of the other rooms, as they tend to leave the impression of gaiety and bliss with the reader. The sharp differentiation and vivid description of the last room as compared to all the others gives the reader the feeling that this room is to be of importance later in the story and thereby helps create the atmosphere for the story. In The Masque, Poe also conveys a false sense of security with his first description of the abbey. He calls it an extensive and magnificent structure which has a strong and lofty wall...[with] gates of iron encircling it. After the courtiers have entered the abbey, the gates are welded shut, which the prince believes is enough to keep the disease of the Red Death out. Poe even goes as far as to state that with such precautions the courtiers might bid defiance to contagion. Poe is trying to convey the idea that the masqueraders believe that they are completely safe within the abbey, and then show that when the Red Death appears they could not escape death. This is done so that the reader can see that the whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think that the fact that it was actual addicts explain what they went through it got the point across more than anything. Hearing each of them talk about how they got addicted and how it ruined relationships like with their parents and even with other addicts. Hearing how some of them were even willing to steal from their family or how one of the women would leave her own child sitting in its own filth really showed how much of a hold prescription drugshad over their life. Also, I think this video brought attention to people s naive views on prescription drugs. People of all ages like to think that only the drugs that are labeled as illegal are bad for you. but that is not the case at all and this video touches on that very topic. Nothing in these videos really shocked me. I think that the videos just added insight to something I already know. Specifically, the Generation Rxvideo that involved actual addicts talking about what they went through. I was surprised how they talked about prescription drugs. I ve always thought that prescription drugs were just as bad if not worse than drugs that aren t prescribed to you. • 13. William Domhoff s Who Rules America Essay Reading G. William Domhoff s Who Rules America?: The Triumph of the Corporate Rich was an intriguing and challenging experience for me. My limited knowledge base of the American political class system mostly stems from high school US History classes and listening to my mom s stories of her experiences in the corporate world. Therefore, I am aware that due to my prior lack of knowledge on the topics presented in Domhoff s book, I may have misjudged some of his finer points. Part of my struggles may be largely due to the fact that Domhoff s intended audience for Who Rules America? is other experts in the field of understanding the sociology of the corporate eliteand their resources of power. However, I believe that the book has given me a better, if not complete, understanding of the corporate elite and how they stay in power. I found the book to be extremely well researched. When Domhoff presents a point, he uses several sources and logical reasons to back up his theory. For example, when relating the dominance of the political elite on the government, Domhoff examines the amount of influence the corporate rich have in our judicial system by investigating the nine Supreme Court judges during the Obama administration. He discovered that all of them graduated from one of three elite institutions: Harvard, Yale, or Columbia (Domhoff, 178, 2014). Domhoff treats most of his assertions in a similar fashion; he uses extensive research backs up his claims. The book explains the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Jean-Luc GodardВґs Breathless Breathless is in many ways the antithesis of the classical Hollywood cinema; the changes have a direct effect on the relationship the film has with the viewer. Classical Hollywood cinema includes standards such as continuity editing, highly motivated, character driven stories and a coherent narrative structure. Breathless defies these elements of traditional filmmaking, instead defining what we know as French New Wave. From its opening scene Breathless breaks convention. Godard uses a real life person to create more connections between Michel and the audience; while the viewer doesn t understand the significance of the scene, it is a different way of adding depth to the character. The way Godard uses camerawork and editing in the film is another way that he uses forms and standards of cinema in order to purposefully draw the audience s attention to the filmmaking process. In classic Hollywood cinema, spatial and graphic continuity editing is extremely important, and often worked to perfection. Editing in Breathless is not used to advance the storyline or show continuity between scenes, but to echo the rhythms of everyday life. There are many jump cuts throughout the movie, which is considered a sin in classic cinema. The interesting thing about the jump cuts is that the dialogue continues uninterrupted despite these choppy cuts. In one scene, Michel is driving in a car with the American girl he tries to convince to go with him to Italy, Patricia. He is describing her beauty and the features that he likes about her, and as he gives each detail, the camera does a jump cut to a shot of Patricia s face. In another scene, Michel is in Patricia s apartment. As they are talking, the jump cuts make the entire scene appear to be a montage rather than one continuous scene. • 15. The Dalai Lama The story of the Dalai Lama has been told and repeated innumerable times and usually leans toward the personality, ideas and teachings of the current Dalai Lama who is the 14th incarnation named Tenzin Gyatso. This paper, instead, revolves around the position and concept of the role of the Dalai Lama. The conception of the Dalai Lamaoriginated in Tibetan Buddhism and comes from a line of learned preachers, known as tulkus, that are considered to be the incarnations of the Boddhisattva of compassion, Avalokitesvara. This idea of reincarnation of a soul is uncommon in other forms and schools of Buddhism which, accordingly, sets Tibetan Buddhism apart and establishes the foundation upon which the Dalai Lama exists. I will be discussing the role of the Dalai Lama through the exploration of Tibetan Buddhism and the previously mentioned terms Avalokitesvara, Boddhisattva, tulkus and more. I will also consider the Dalai Lama s role as both a spiritual and secular head of the Tibetan State. The title of Boddhisattva is given to those who take the vow to become a fully enlightened buddha yet stay in the samsaric cycle of rebirth out of sheer compassion to aid others in attaining nirvana. Avalokitesvara is considered to have been one of the first to have made the vow to postpone their own buddhahood until he has assisted every being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States government during the Civil War era was run by the Republicans. The Republicans held the majority in Congress in 1860 because the southern states had seceded from the Union. This majority gave the republicans the power to implement the policies in their platform which was based on the American System. The Republican platform of 1860 was centered on encouraging economic growth and developing a national economy. A few specific policies that the Republicans passed were the Pacific Railway Act, the Morill Tariff, and the Morill Land Grant Act. Each of these three policies were aimed at encouraging economic growth in our nation. The republicans passed many laws with the sole purpose of encouraging economic growth and developing a strong economy. The US government could be considered somewhat laissez faire in their neglect to place much needed regulations on big business and corporations. Despite this fact, the United Statesgovernment was definitely not laissez faire during this time period due to the fact that they took a very active role in our nation s economy. His life was not ordinary by any means; he became the voice of his generation with his poignant works capturing the emotions of the American people after World War I. In his novel A Farewell to Arms Ernest Hemingwayattempts to demonstrate through the characters of Frederic Henry and Rinaldi the feelings of horror and disillusionment the people of the Modern era tried to escape. Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899, in the suburbs of Chicago to a middle class family. As the oldest of six children, Hemingway was very close with his mother even though he often disagreed with her values (Shuman, R. Baird 897). Hemingway s passion for the outdoors was instilled in him at a young age when his family would spend summers in the woods of northern Michigan ( Hemingway, Ernest ). After graduating from Oak Park High School in 1917, Hemingway decided to continue doing what he loved instead of going to college; he began working for The Kansas City Star as a reporter where he began to develop his unique writing style (Shuman, R. Baird 897). After the newspaper ran an article about the war, Hemingway decided to enlist ( Hemingway, Ernest ). To keep a continuous supply of ATP, ATP is resynthesized using one of the three energy pathways. The three energy pathways are the phosphagen, anaerobic and aerobic systems. The phosphagen system known as the ATP CP pathway, uses creatine phosphate (CP) to resynthesize ATP. CP re bonds ADP to produce ATP after it is broken down. The ATP CP pathway is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for short term high intensity activities. Two exercises that utilize the ATP CP pathway are weightlifting and sprinting. The anaerobic system known as the glycolytic pathway, uses glucose to produce ATP. Glucose is broken down into pyruvate through glycolysis to produce ATP. The amount of energy produced is very little, but you get the energy quickly. The glycolytic pathway is the second fastest way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for large bursts activities. • 23. The Effects Of Salmon Farming On The Salmon Population Essay Introduction Fish, one of our most important sources of high quality protein, provides some 16% of the animal protein consumed by the world s population, (Food Agriculture Organization, FAO, of the United Nations, 1997). Our responses towards a growing demand for fish led to a boom in the salmon farming industry (Naylor, et al., 1998). Unfortunately, the consequences of salmon farming outweigh the value that comes with it. Even though salmon farming is steadily becoming more sustainable, salmon farming is not a suitable and environmentally sound way of producing food due to the negative issues salmon farming has caused in the environment, the salmon population, and the health of humans. Salmon farming effects to wild salmon population Scientists of various fields have found that escaped salmon from fisheries have negatively impacted the salmon population. The gradual increase of salmon farming has led to a higher rate of escaped salmon reaching local ecosystems. As farmed salmon escape through weather events, poor containment, careless handling, etc. the local ecology changes dramatically. In McGinnity s study (2003), farmed salmon have been found to breed poorly and have difficulty surviving in comparison to wild salmon. Two forms of entertainment are chariot racing and gladiator fights. These were two of the more popular forms of entertainment available to the average Roman citizens. The first form of entertainment I am going to talk about is chariot racing. Chariot racing was the most popular form of entertainment. It appealed to all social classes, from the lowly slaves to the senators and the emperor. Juvenal s famous saying panem et circenses has become a sign of entertainment appeasing people throughout the ages. Although there was no public betting one the races, there was a large amount of private betting that went on and the chance of earning money probably attracted even more popularity to the races. The races were so popular that many household items were decorated with symbols from the racing. The racers were divided into four different teams, called factions (factiones). These were coloured and their names came from the colours themselves: the Greens, the Reds, the Blues and the Whites. The green and blue factions were the most powerful, and later on in the empire, they absorbed the other two into their ranks. The factions were not just racing teams, they also had political influence. Most Roman citizens became racing fanatics, supporting one of the factions. Once again, the gender characteristics play as an underlying factor. These qualities were not good enough for a woman if they were not beautiful. The stanza then takes a turn like the first turning away from the simplicity. The girl went to and fro apologizing, while everyone still saw a fat nose on thick legs. Society places women into the mold where they begin to put on a facade and apologize for their misfortunes. In the third stanza, the girl was advised to play coy...(and) smile. As Bandy mentions, the grandmother and the misfit are often intertwined in many critics reviews of A Good Man is Hard to Find (1). One of the most obvious ironies they share is that you perceive one as being the opposite of the other for the wrong reasons. With the grandmother, as stated before, one may assume her to be a good person, while she is in fact the opposite. While the Misfit would most likely be associated as a murderer and a horrible monster, he in fact is a decent human being. Wynne emphasizes the humor in the grandmother s attempt to save herself by calling the Misfit one of her children (1). Recent research has shifted the paradigm of thinking of what range of skills serves as the foundation of literacy. Skilled readers need language development, conceptual knowledge base, and a broad vocabulary. Children must have sufficient decoding skills that are composed of smaller elements of speech known as phonological awareness and letter sound correspondence. In addition, readers must have the ability to fluently and easily recognize these words. But to attain a high level of skills, young children need opportunities to develop these strands, not in isolation, but interactively. (Neuman, Copple, Bredekamp, 2000) The Stages of Reading Chall s developmental stages of reading clearly define the learning progression for literacy. It is evident that language is the vital component of a reading foundation. The Pre reading stage marks the importance of oral language development. Verbal abilities are consistently the best predictors of later reading achievement (Scarborough, 2001). This beginning stage demonstrates how the visual perceptual and cognitive processes are at work (Cunningham 2000). The outlook that people have today on the existence of God and the role that He plays in our world has changed drastically since the Enlightenment Period. Many look solely to the concept of reason, or the phenomenon that allows human beings to use their senses to draw conclusions about the world around them, to try and understand the environment that they live in. However, there are some that look to faith, or the concept of believing in a higher power as the reason for our existence. Being that this is a fundamental issue for humanity, there have been many attempts to explain what role each concept plays. It is my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a few scholars that share the same view as John Paul II, and explore the different ways that God can be present on a scientific platform. As scholar Arthur Peacocke says, the history of theology shows that its development is intimately related to the understanding of the natural, including the human, world that has prevailed at different periods. From a theologian s own perspective, God himself has given the world the kind of being it has and it must be in some respects, to be ascertained, revelatory of God s nature and purposes. Therefore, theology should seek to coincide with scientific perspectives on the natural world. Corresponding to this, the sciences should not be surprised if their perspectives are seen to be partial and incomplete and to raise questions not able to be answered from within their own realm of understanding, because there are other realities that are not apparent by the sciences as such (Peacocke). The concepts of faith and reason occupy separate realms of reality and believers in one or the other should not attempt to have domain in the other discipline. This is where the conflict can enter in. In the academic setting, theology has had increased interaction with philosophy and reason. As a separate academic field, philosophy ought to continue its search for the meaning of life and in the process consider spiritual realities, while theology continues to proclaim the Gospel to the world. While the two disciplines should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Hawking s A Briefer History Steven Hawking s A Briefer History in Time tells a simplified story of the universe. Hawking s starts out the book by going over the different type of cosmology that was held throughout history. He mentions the beliefs that Aristotle, Copernicus, Galileo and other notable individuals held about the universe. This discussion is used to segue into a brief description of the different theories, laws, and ideas concerning the universe held by people today. Newton s laws of motion and gravity and Einstein s theory of relativity are only some of the models that Hawking discusses. Thus, the main purpose of Hawking s A Briefer History in Time is to inform the readers of the development in our understanding of how the universe works. In his conclusion, Hawking s specifically includes the term Mind of God (142). I believe that for Hawking, to understand the mind of God is to understand the workings of the universe and our place in it. Hawking s A Briefer History of Time also asserts that it is possible to know the mind of God. In essence, although, Hawking does not explicitly say that we can explain the world without God, he does use the theories of others to question the existence of God. Although, Hawking s discussion of the theories concerning the universe can be seen as contradictory to the idea of an absolute God, the theories coincide and broaden my understanding of God. The main problem within the context of signature strikes concerns targeted suspected militants whose identity are completely unknown. Hunting in general is a broad topic so, I will be using deeras the main point. Walt Disney has had a hand in how hunters are portrayed. Bambi, released in 1942, portrayed hunters as heartless people, killing Bambi s mother and leaving the fawn to learn to survive. Disney also came out with a television show based on Davy Crockett s life. The series celebrated Crockett s ability as a hunter and resulted in a children s fad of wearing coonskin caps and carrying toy Crockett buffalo rifles. Disney has used movies to make us see both sides. There are differences in the interpretation of cultural aspects in Greek and Roman literature. Greece and Rome both place heavy significance on fate, although, what defines fate is seemingly different in the Golden Ass when compared to the Iliad. In the Iliad, the characters appear to understand their predetermined fate as soldiers, then to the left our ready arms apply, / And live with glory, or with glory die (Homer 245), even though, individually, characters may ignore prophecies which ultimately predict their fate. In the Iliad, whether because of divine intervention or destiny, the characters have little impact on their own fate. In the Golden Ass, fate is never outright predetermined, and the characters individual actions matter. Although it may be alluded to, in stories like Lucius s, it is unknown how the story will end, until it has ended. In the Iliad, because of the prophecy, the reader knows Achilles will win the war for the Greeks, and according to Zeus s golden scale, Hector is doomed to die and cannot be saved. In the Iliad, the fate of Achilles is somewhat predestined to be a war hero. This prediction is lived out by Achilles, as he returns to the war and ultimately defeats the Trojans for Greece, and is declared a hero. Fate is seen as concrete, and unchanging.
