African Countries And Africa s Modern Day Lingual Issues
Africa is the most fascinating continent on our planet due to the thousands of cultures that are able to
thrive there. Africa is the most lingual diverse continent in the world with over three thousand
languages spoken there. The most common languages spoken in Africa are English, French, and
Portuguese, however most African countries are composed of tribes, each with their own dialect of
language. The issue lies in the fact that most of these languages are not mutually intelligible.
Therefore, having thousands of languages has contributed to the downfall and stunted economic
growth of many African countries such as Nigeria and Tanzania. Having hundreds of languages in a
country composed of tribes can cause multiple issues and can ... Show more content on

European colonization is the main cause for the numerous amount of languages in the continent of
Africa. After the industrial revolution, Europe was searching for money, therefore they colonized in
order to enrich themselves. Ethiopia and Libya were the only countries in Africa to resist the
Europeans and prevent their country from being taken over. Otherwise, all the other countries were
colonized. The Europeans sharing the same land brought about a whole new set of problems. The
Europeans put their own cultural practices into use in Africa which included their languages. The
native Africans began to pick up these languages and localizing them. This was the beginning of the
linguistic melting pot that we see today in many African countries. As a result of European
colonization, we saw many languages emerge out of Africa. As time has progressed, we have failed to
see any extinction of these languages of which highly contributes to Africa s modern day linguistic
issues. Nigeria supports over 500 languages inside its borders, however English has been the official
language since independence from Britain. Now nearly 60 years later, Nigerians are proposing the
idea of changing the official language to an indigenous language for multiple reasons. Nigerians
believe that an indigenous language is the key to resolving problems concerning national unity

An Age Of Wisdom And Clarity
INTRODUCTION
Everyone in the United States has had some sort of interaction with a person from the church, at a
church, in a church and has seen countless images of Jesus in various states of crucifixion to
constantly remind you of his sacrifice, a promise to you that you are forgiven and you have a place in
heaven. Now, this essay is not for everyone, some people cannot function without a crutch, or life is so
bad this is the only escape from reality that is possible, this essay is for those who like me as a child
was so confused about the Christian religion, but could never isolate those reasons until entering an
age of wisdom and clarity.
His Birth
Jesus s birth story is known by us all in some form or other. His birth is celebrated in countless songs,
and festooned, mangered, and otherwise decorated to include gifting friends and family. Amen.
Beginning this story and journey wise men, most say three, correlated by the three extravagant gifts.
Three wise men followed a star which took them to the palace of King Herod, where the King said he
had heard the Lord s baby was born in Bethlehem. Grabbing up the gifts befitting a heavenly child, the
men head off to Bethlehem to find the Christ child. Quickly these wise men traverse to Bethlehem and
discover the Christ child in a manger with his mother, and the guy married to his mom. Everyone can
see a manger with its clean straw mother and husband around a baby with animals and three guys with
presents.

New Year Eve Party Essay
New Year s Eve has become one of the biggest days of the year for parties and events throughout the
world. Therefore, an unlimited amount of events are planned and executed on the last day of the year;
this year I attended a New Year eve party at the house of a co worker. The party was held in a
neighborhood just inside the city of Charlotte. It has been a while since I attended a house party, so
there are some aspects that come along with a house party that will increase the amount of risk
associated with the staging of the New Year Eve party. The name of the event was Shari and Cue s
New Year Eve party; the event was held on December 31, 2015. The party started at 9:00pm, and was
scheduled to end at 2:00 am January 1, 2016. However ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The event was held at a house so the facility was well managed. There was one entrance into the
basement, which led to the crowd being forced to use the same stairway to enter and exit the through
the same area. I would have suggested that the event planners had selected another venue to hold the
party because the party had a cramped feeling to it. Therefore, the exit and entrance was clearly
marked, but it was a lack of actually signs used to identify the exit and entrance. The nature of the
event made the need for security to be moot, everyone that was invited to the event was friends of the
party host. Thus, security may have been overkill at an event of this scale. The event was lacking ADA
accommodations, if there was an attendee that need ADA accommodations to make to the basement
where the majority of the activities were being held, then the lack of wheelchair access would have
been an issue. When planning an event, the scale and scope of the event is vital to consider the size of
the crowd that will be attending the event. The New Year Eve party had between 50 60 attendees
throughout the course of the event. Based on the information provided by the event planner, there was
probably 15 more guest than they initial planned to host at the party. The location of the event caused
the flow of the traffic to become a possible issue. When holding an event in a private neighborhood,
there will be a limited number

Joseph Plumb Martin Essay
Joseph Plumb Martin was born upon the twenty first of November, in the year of 1760 (Martin 6). His
grandparents raised him on their Connecticut farm. Inspired by the Battles of Lexington and Concord
he decided to enlist into the army. He was eager to help for the patriotic cause. In June of 1776, at the
age of 15, Martin was able to enlist but didn t want to sign up for a long enlistment. Soldiers at the
time were enlisting for a year s service but he did not like that and thought it was too long a time for
him for the first trial, I wished only to take a priming before I took upon me the whole coat of paint for
a soldier (Martin 16). Orders soon came allowing men to enlist for six months so Martin enrolled in

He goes on to explain the living conditions he had to endure and his lack of sleep. It was utterly
impossible to lie down and to get any rest or sleep on account of the mud Martin recalls, and can say
in sincerity that I never lay down to sleep a minute in all that time (Martin 77). The fighting at Fort
Mifflin allowed Washington and his troops to withdraw to winter quarters at Valley Forge. It was too
late in the season for the British to follow them.
After arriving at Valley Forge Martin and his fellow soldiers were about to go through the famously
long cold winter that awaited them. Martin wrote, Our prospect was indeed dreary. In our miserable
condition, to go into the wild woods and build us habitations to stay (not to live) in, in such a weak,
starved and naked condition, was appalling in the highest degree (Martin 89). He talks about lying
there two nights and one day, and had not a morsel of any thing to eat all the time (Martin 90).
Martin describes the travel and the toll it took on men. I had now to travel the rest of the day, after
marching all the day and night before and fighting all the morning. I had eaten nothing since the noon
of the preceding day, nor did I eat a morsel til the forenoon of the next day, and I needed rest as much
as victuals. After the army had collected again and recovered from their panic, we were kept marching

To Each His Own by Leonardo Sciascia
IB English 11 World Literature Essay To Each His Own
An anonymous person once said, Who gossips with you will gossip of you . This quote is saying that
whoever shares gossip with an individual about someone or something will not hesitate when talking
about the same person with another individual. Gossip is in no way a new idea, since many people at
one point in their lives have taken part in a conversation about another individual s personal business.
Every day, especially in modern day society, many men and women are susceptible to gossip and its
consequences. One major consequence includes false information being spread around, which causes
people to become misled; this may eventually cause loss of a person s reputation. The way gossip can
affect many different things is presented in a plethora of scenarios in life and literature. An analysis of
literary terms and techniques in Leonardo Sciascia s novel To Each His Own demonstrates the idea
that gossip in small towns may sometimes be extremely virulent since it is spreading false information
and can affect one s reputation through the vilification of that person.

The Interview With Sara Watkins
Introduction Every individual has their own perception on what a leader is to them. What is a leader?
What characteristics does a leader have? Are leaders born or made? These questions, along with many
more throughout the process have given a general idea of what a good leader entails. This grouped
included 17 anonymous interviews that provides the thoughts and opinions of what leadership is,
which include similarities across the board along with some differences.
Analysis
There are two different kinds of leaders. One would be a team player and the other is more of a

when it came to leadership as opposed to one who would just call the ... Show more content on

Key words and phrases that I found in the research that correlate are anyone who influences, who sets
a good example, and is a great communicator.
There was also good feedback on whether a leader can be born or made. A majority seemed to think
that the answer is both. Nature vs. Nurture was brought up on multiple occasions throughout the
interviews saying that both are important. This made sense because just like any trait, if you don t use
it then you lose it. One might be born with the right traits and characteristics but it is ones experiences
that really brings them to light. It was brought up more than once that being born with those traits just
makes the path to being a leader easier. Though there was one who thought one could only be born to
be a leader.

somebody else no matter how much knowledge you have about a subject does not mean that you can

Essay on Minorities in Song of Solomon
Minorities within Minorities in Song of Solomon
In a study about minorities, the groups that are differing from the dominant culture are seen as
homogeneous. But, if we look deeper into the groups, we can see that there are distinctions among the
minorities concerning lifestyle and social status. In Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon the author
provides examples in the background of the story that shows people with differential identities of the
general identity of the minority group.
The character Macon Dead and his family is represented as differing from the society they live in with
their social status. They are rich and try to live like white people. It is important for Macon Dead to

It is not for the sake of his family or to have fun, but to make everybody see his car. These rides were
a way to satisfy himself that he was indeed a successful man (31). It is impressive how Morrison
reflects Macon s desires in life with the route of the Sunday rides: ...through the rough part of town,
over the bypass downtown, and headed for the wealthy white neighborhoods (32).
The difference between Milkman and his father is that he was born rich and does not have the
ambitions of his father. But, because of the way he was raised, he cannot prevent himself from acting
different from the African American society. In fact, we see that he has only Guitar as a friend. He
likes to spend time with women in parties. The result of his wealthy life and the fact that he was raised
in a city shows us his distinction from the society when he arrives in Shalimar.
When Milkman talks with the shopkeeper Mr. Solomon, he grows up the anticipation of the people
around him. The reasons why they are offended by Milkman is clearly stated in the following passage:
They looked with hatred at the city Negro who could buy a car as if it were a bottle of whiskey
because the one he had was broken. And what s more, who had said so in front of them. He hadn t
bothered to say his name, nor ask theirs, had called them them, and would certainly despise their days,
which should have been spent harvesting their own crops, instead of waiting around

Civil Service Thesis
Civil service is a great thing for America, however, all future United State high school graduates
should not be forced to spend one year after high school in service. The reasons I think this include
these high school graduates should be able to make their own decisions, college is a great path
immediately following high school and finally forced service would lead to lack of motivation for
workers. These points argue that joining the civil services is an obstacle, preventing these kids from
pursuing their dreams.
High school graduates should have the right to make their own decisions on their future. I understand
that our government wants high school graduates to help build up our great nation, as many bad things

This would not be valuable to the civil services, and it would be invaluable to the people participating

Effects Of Sleep Walking And Night Walking
Abstract
One of the most frightening sleep occurrences to a family is when a family member is having a night
terror, or sleep walking. It s difficult to understand how someone could have their eyes open, walking,
and talking but not really being awake. For the person that has the sleeping issue, they have no
memory of the occurrence. However, observing a person going through one of these episodes makes it
appear that the person is witnessing pure horror, not to mention the confusion if they happen to wake
up. This paper will explore the psychophysiological aspects of parasomnia with a focus on night
terrors and sleep walking. Including psychological aspects that pertain to the mind, and the
physiological aspects that pertain to the living system of sleepwalking and night terrors. The paper
will also examine an actual current case of a 4 year old that currently has night terrors, and an 18 year
old young adult that sleep walks almost nightly. Finally, the paper will conclude with current
treatments for both night terrors and sleeping walking when the person doesn t just grow out of the
sleep disturbance. Taking a closer look into parasomnias, will offer more clarity in understanding how
important good quality sleep is to all people of all ages.

The one human need that all organisms require is sleep. The body will eventually shut down to get rest
because it requires sleep to function properly. Adequate sleep is what keeps our learning and memory
on point. Sleep deprived people can t focus their attention to its full potential, because there is a lack
in a basic human need. Studies done on both animals and humans suggest that the quantity and quality
of sleep have a profound impact on learning and memory. According to the article, In the study,
findings suggest that sleep disturbances can be detected using both subjective and objective measures
and that, for these individuals, fluctuations in sleep duration may have real consequences for daytime
anxiety (Mullin et al., 2017). When sleep lacks the other areas fall short. Good

St. Thomas Aquinas Arguments For The Existence Of God
When contemplating the theories of ethics, one can expand upon the ideas of Utilitarian and Duty
ethics using St. Thomas Aquinas arguments for the existence of God. The concept of Utilitarian ethics
suggests that a moral act is one that brings about the most happiness. With this definition, one must
conclude that there must be some optimal happiness or good. If there is a choice between levels of
happiness then one must define the optimal happiness or the most good that could exist in order to
judge the relative goodness of an act. Therefore there must be a maximum goodness or happiness
which is the cause of all other means of happiness. This argument is one that corresponds with St.
Thomas Aquinas proof of the existence of God. In his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Happiness is not the only key in determining the ethics of an act according to Kant and the theory of
Duty ethics. In the article The Metaphysics of Morals, contained within the dialogue between the
student and the teacher, Kant argues that one must balance happiness and reason. Happiness, being the
ultimate or overall good or welfare of a being, must be rationalized by reason, being the measure of
how worthy one is of this happiness. The observance of reason is then what Kant deems worthiness to
happiness. Nevertheless, Kant also brings up an interesting point that humanity cannot always provide
it selves with happiness, but that the circumstances of our lives are often out of our control. He then
argues that the fact that there is some kind of order and wisdom in nature that is outside of our control
points to the workings of a higher power. This argument again points to the fact that there must be
some ultimate good or goal in which creation as a whole is designed. This argument parallels St.
Thomas Aquinas fifth argument the Argument from Design begins with the fact that all natural bodies
work toward some goal, and do not do so by choice. He then states that most natural things lack
knowledge and things that lack knowledge, like an arrow for example, can achieve a goal by being
directed from someone with

How Does Cole Create An Epanaphora In This Song
Jermaine Cole is a successful American music artist famous for his complex and meaningful lyrics. J.
Cole writes many songs about the life of a man in the city or his early life in the inner city. In the song
Love Yourz J. Cole uses epanaphora, anecdotes, and rhetorical questions to create a mood and
message that stresses the insignificance of money. Love yourz is a fantastic song that makes you truly
appreciate life. J Cole uses epanaphora to repeat lines that accentuate the importance of happiness and
family over material objects. J Cole starts the song with an epanaphora. This repetition of an opening
phrase sets the tone and message for the song. In the first three lines J Cole repeats the line No such
thing , The second line states no such thing as a life that s better than yours. This specific sentence in
the song has an amazing message that is portrayed throughout the entire song. We will never find
happiness while chasing others lives. J. Cole does a fantastic job at displaying this message in his
song. There is no life better than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
J. Cole specifically uses this device to set the mood of the song and delivers the final reinforced
message that money is nothing without happiness. In line 24 Jermaine asks for what s money without
happiness. The message could not be brought across any more clear. He also asks in the next line or
hard times without the people you love. Money is nothing without happiness and J Cole uses these
rhetorical questions to emphasize this theme and message of the song. He makes all of his listeners not
only question the written line but their own lives. The intent of these questions could be to stir a
change in people s lives, to make the listeners really debate the quest of their lives. J Cole knows that
so many have been living life for money and not happiness or family. J Cole has a message of change
and gratitude, for what is money without

How The Grinch Stole Christmas Essay
I have chosen to look at How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss from a Marxist perspective.
The Marxist school of criticism focuses on the clash between the dominant class and the lower class.
This poem is about the Grinch, who is very different from everyone else in his society, making him an
outcast that nobody wants to be around. The Grinch is the embodiment of the lower class because he
does not get to make important decisions and he lives in isolation. The Whos are the complete
opposite of the Grinch, as they represent the dominant class and they get to live together in their tight
knit society without any worries. The Grinch wanted to destroy Christmas because nobody gave him a
present, as they all viewed him as evil and as detrimental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, this is an example of the lower class trying to overcompensate by trying to overthrow
and cause chaos to the dominant class. The people of that era were very adamant to accept people who
were different from them because they wanted everyone to be the same and follow the same rules. The
Grinch did not want to follow the rules and so he broke away from the town, to live somewhere where
his voice was heard. Once the Grinch stole all of the presents, stocking and trees, he realized that the
real value was not in the presents, but in the people celebrating together. This caused him to look past
his hate and break the class system, by joining in with the Whos. As a result, he was no longer
separated in a separate class, as he transitioned into the dominant class. I believe that this poem does
not fully reflect the economic division or even the class division, as it is a children s poem which
mostly focuses on the message, instead of specific details. Although, we can infer that the Grinch was
in a different class system, due to his attitude towards the other people of the village and his feeling of
resentment and

The Culture And Culture Of Ainu
Ainu are the oldest inhabitants of Japan, also the minority in Japan, they live in the Hokkaido region
of Japan, has a long history and rich cultural background. The content will describe the Ainu language
and their culture. By understanding the language and culture of Ainu, will help us better to understand
the cultural diversity of modern Japanese society.
Japan is considered the simplest ethnic composition country in the world. The majority people think
that Japan is a single nation which is Yamato. In fact, in Hokkaido of Japan, lived almost forgotten by
the people of ethnic minorities Ainu. Ainu is widely distributed in the Japanese Islands as early as in
the Jomon Period (Henshall, A History of Japan 7). Some scholars believe that they were from the
branch of the Mongolian race from the Asian continent, belonged to Mongolian and Negro the
Australian mixed type of race. The history of Ainu shows that they were mainly distributed in Russia s
Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands and Hokkaido of Japan and other regions (Wikipedia). The Ainu are the
oldest inhabitants of Japan. Ainu people formerly lived in all over the Japan as the earliest indigenous
people on the island. After being expelled by Yamato, they lived in Hokkaido and its surrounding
areas (picture 1). The Ainu have orbital collapse, prominent cheekbones, and black, curly hair. Both
men and women like to wear earrings and Makiri knife. Compared with Yamato, the most

Should Triumph of the Will Be Considered a Documentary or...
Triumph of the will is a film of the 1934 Nazi Rally at Nuremburg. It was directed by Leni Riefenstahl
and funded by the Nazi party. The question of whether Triumph of the Will was created for the
purpose of Nazi propaganda or simply as a documentary has provoked historical debate. There is no
doubt that the film was used as propaganda, as when the Nazi s annexed Austria, triumph of the will
was streamed in every cinema to convert the disillusioned Austrians into practising Nazis. However,
historians have questioned the intentions of the film s creator. Leni Riefenstahl was found to be a Nazi

The third flaw in Leni s argument is that she claimed to be showing the congress through a non expert
eye, however the film techniques employed in Triumph of the will show otherwise. It is hard to
believe that she didn t know anything about the Nazi ideology as she had emphasised aspects of Nazi
beliefs highlighted in Hitler s 1924 book Mein Kampf. The opening scene of Triumph of the will
shows Hitler s plane flying above white, pillowy clouds that possess every connotation linked to
heaven. This flying through heaven has been accompanied with mystical, fairy tale like music adding
to the spiritual undertones of the man that had begun his plunge into the disillusioned world that he
was there to save. If Leni was simply going to make the film artistic, why would she specifically
choose Hitler to descend through the clouds and into Nuremburg where people were screaming for
their fuhrer. She didn t choose this imagery as a mistake, she wanted to show that Hitler attained Jesus
like qualities. And if she was simply filming the rally as a documentary, why was it so important to
show Hitler flying through the clouds, as at this point, the rally

The Bad Emperors of Rome Essay
Caring, respectable, valued and honoured are all traits desirable of an emperor. Augustus encompassed
all of these and went as far as restoring the Republican government from its once fallen state, but this
was all forgotten when Tiberius became emperor. Tiberius was corrupt by power and Rome began to
live in an era of destruction. As well, the subsequent emperors, Caligula and Nero followed in the
same path, portraying violence and negatively impacting the city of Rome. Their reign caused them to
be unpopular as each marginalized pietas, the duty towards the Gods, family, homeland, and
followers, which is highly valued by the romans. This can be seen through the actions and behaviours

His accessibility to the people became nonexistent as he declared he would no longer assist anyone. A
hatred for his brother Drusus formed and he treated his wife poorly, depriving her of the dowry left to
her by her father and forbidding her to go outside of the house or talk to any men. As well, when his
mother became very ill, Tiberius showed no priority to visit her. When she died, he refused to attend
her funeral establishing a lack of respect and honour for her. Also outlining the betrayal of his family
is the starvation of his three grandsons. He destroyed every bit of family he had, thus destroying the
support of his followers as well, as Romans did not respect those who could harm their family in such
a way. While in Capri, Tiberius was alone enjoying his privacy when a fisherman approached him.
Tiberius, being irritated by this disturbance, ordered his face to be mutilated with the claws of the crab
from which the fisherman made an offering. The people of Rome were fearful of Tiberius, such that
when they were called to trial, they stabbed themselves in their homes. One day, both women and
boys were strangled to death by Tiberius executioner, but according to ancient customs, it is unlawful

them. He came up with multiple ways of torturing people, such as hanging men by their genitals and

Political theory is the study of concepts that allows for the analytical study of relationships between
political institutions. Over the centuries, political theorists have established renditions of what political
theory is. This essay will focus on Plato, Nietzsche, and Aristotle, and their works, which respectively
define the concepts of the common good and the significance of philosophers to the welfare of the
state, self deceiving intellect and the power of authority over our intellectual lives, and the concepts of
interdependency and the importance of virtue and happiness for a successful political framework.
Plato, and his works are renowned for the development of the most central principles of political
philosophy. In Republic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept is based on his belief that philosophers are the only holders of true knowledge. In
Republic Plato uses Socrates in dialogue to state, Once one has seen it (Forum of Good), however, one
must conclude that it is the cause of all that is correct and beautiful in anything, that it produces both
light and its source in the visible realm, and that in the intelligible realm it controls and provides truth
and understanding, so that anyone who is to act sensibly in private or public must see it (Plato 189).
Plato uses Socrates to argue that the only people with true knowledge are those who have access to the
Forum of Good. According to Plato, this Forum is the source of all other forums and all intelligence
and knowledge so a political state must have access to the Forum in order to thrive. However, the only
ones who have access to this forum are philosophers and for this reason he argues that the welfare of
the state is dependent on the existence of philosophers. He furthers this argument by stating that as a
result it is philosophers who are most fit to rule, thus introducing the concept of a philosopher king as
the most fit form of political rule for the welfare of all. These principles, although they have been
adapted to account for differences in beliefs, societies, and political structures, are still the basis of
many current political

File Sharing on the Internet Essay
File Sharing on the Internet When we think of pirates, we see scruffy men with unshaven chins, a
bandana, a gold earing, a black patch on one eye, and a wooden leg, men with guns in hand, riding the
seas in their wooden ship proudly flying the terrifying skull and crossbones. Well, pirates these days
look much different. In fact, you may be sitting by one right now. They are ordinary people who have
come to enjoy the technologies the Internet provides. These pirates are boys and girls, women and
men, who habitually root themselves in their desk chairs with eyes fixed on the computer screen. But
today s pirates have something in common with the pirates of days lost in history. Both steal what

Ultimately it ceased being a free source of music. Now there are a few other popular servers, like

In order to limit exchanging music, record companies want to make hardware and software to prevent
music from being copied. But this would prevent people from copying their own music. That means
no making CD mixes or putting music from your CDs on the computer, which is all perfectly legal. A
handful of CDs already have certain features that prohibit the CD from being played on the computer
and thereby prohibit the CD from being copied. There are many legitimate reasons for someone to
copy their CDs, however. First, instead of taking a whole bunch of CDs when I go somewhere, I d
rather just take copies in case I would lose any. Second, how many times have you scratched a CD?
Too many to count, no doubt, and by being able to copy your CDs, you don t have to worry about not
being able to listen to the CD just because you accidentally scratched it. CDs are valuable items and
thieves will gladly take them if they can, but if all your CDs are copied they re only stealing a
worthless copy and not the original. And if they happen to get their hands on your originals, you know
that your CD won t be lost forever because you made a copy of it. Many times you don t like all the

The Film Gangs Of New York
The film Gangs of New York, highlighted the facets of many different gangs; the most important
being the Natives and the Dead Rabbits. Both gangs vied for power over the region called the Five
Points during the Civil War time period. Within the film there were many different examples of social
stratification like class privilege, status, and power. The examples of stratification were shown by both
gangs and the individuals that the gangs were compromised of. The purpose of this paper is to analyze
these examples of social class and privilege, status, parties, and power, as described by Max Weber,
and how they exemplified in the film Gangs of New York. The examples of stratification in the film
similar to that of Weber s will show that the Gangs of New York represent the strife and problems that
come with a person s class, status, and party.
In Class, Status, Party, by Max Weber, Weber defines a class as any group of people that happen to be
facing the same class situations, or problems (Weber). Both of the two main gangs in the film, the
Natives, formally known as the Native Americans, and the Dead Rabbits, which is compromised of
the Irish Immigrants, were mostly a part of the same social class. There are many different ways that
classes in society can be stratified other than by just the basic three, upper class, middle class, and the
poor (Rothman). The characters in the Gangs of New York mostly belong to the working poor or
unemployed caste, because they have

Theme Of The White Man s Burden
Le Khuc Hoang Uyen 1AH
The White Man s burden by Rudyard Kipling is a poem that, at face value, looks like a rhetorical
command for white men to take up the grave responsibility of colonizing other nations for their own
benefits. The poem thus does display certain social characteristics of the period, illustrated through
some of its major themes like colonialism, racism and religion.
Colonialism is the most overarching theme of the poem, especially when the poem focuses on white
men s burden of colonizing and civilizing other nations. Strong sentiments about the need for
colonialism is seen in the prevailing repetition of Take up the White Man s burden at the beginning of
every stanzas, which serves like a persistent urge that keeps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The view of colonization as a philanthropist act reflects the Social Gospel idea of philanthropy, which
states that the more privileged, the wealthier has an obligation to assist the impoverished and the sick.
This is seen in the religious reference of Our loved Egyptian night , which reminds us of the journey
of Moses leading the Israelites out of slavery. The comparison between Moses journey and that of the
white men to the native land suggests that Kipling views colonization as a holy act where the white
men lead the native people out of the darkness of slavery, poverty, torture and ignorance. It therefore
displays a more religious view of colonialism and thus does represent the way society was encouraged
to perceive the act of colonization at that time.
In conclusion, The White Man s burden displays a rather enthusiastic support for colonization. It,
however, at the same time indirectly illustrates the flaws in societal mindset and their way of
perceiving the idea of colonization that feature characteristics of a rather aggressive and racist

Socio cultural Social issues include population demographics (such as growth rate or age profile),
employment patterns, income levels and population health and education. The above affect the pricing
of the product and how the product is advertised, for example. Cultural behaviour is not always easy
to analyse as it comprises many underlying assumptions which are hard to change intentionally but
which evolve over time (Mullins, 1985). Methods of conducting business are altered by these cultural
concerns. Technological This refers to the means and the methods used to produce the product or the
service supplied (Worthington and Britton, 2009). Although this involves more than information
technology, IT is becoming increasingly important. An organisation needs to know what technologies
are being used by its competitors in order to remain in the market and not fall behind. To make its
product more accessible to customers, a firm must also know what technologies are being used by
them and how these technologies affect the firm s procedures. In a time where customers can read
information on or buy products from firms around the globe, business conduct must adapt to
technologies. This is discussed in Iammarino and Michie s article (1998), which also states that
technology, computing, telecommunications, broadcasting and so on have opened up the world
economy . Legal There is an entire framework of legal requirements under which organisations are

Carp Research Paper
Caring for Carp
The welfare of the carp is something that every carp angler should be concerned about. For some
reason there are still anglers about who don´t possess an unhooking mat.
The use of a safety lead system is a must whilst fishing for carp. If a hooked fish gets snagged or the
mainline gets cut off whilst playing a fish and it is not able to free itself from the line and lead it will
sooner or later die which is totally unacceptable for any angler.
Once a fish has been played out and is ready for the net it should be treated with great care.
A good quality landing net with a soft and carp friendly mesh like the Fox Folding Landing Net or the
Hutchinson Springlock net is essential for landing the fish.
When the carp is in the net the landing net arms can be folded together and the carp can then be
carried to the unhooking mat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bigger the mat the better. On a large mat a lively carp will be much safer than on a small one.
Before you lay the carp onto the unhooking mat make sure the mat is wet.
Personally I use the Deluxe Safe Mat XXL from Pelzer which is excellent as it´s well padded , very
large and it has an extra cover with which the carp can be covered when it´s on the mat and starts
flapping lively. If you have to play and land fish from the boat make sure that the fish is safe on the
unhooking mat in the boat. I´ve always got two Hutchinson Be safe Flat mats on the bottom of my
boat. They cover the whole length of the bottom of my Zodiac so a carp that has been netted from the
boat and been lifted onboard won´t be able get hurt on the journey back to the bank.
Normally I try to unhook a carp as soon as it is in the boat and then row back to the bank as I think
that´s better for the carp (it can´t get tangled in the rig,

January 24, 2013 Introduction A demand analysis is a very vital tool when a company is starting a new

Low income population will be particularly sensitive to price and may be unwilling to buy if they feel
that the price charged is too high (United States Bureau of the Census, 2002). A high income will
make the market less sensitive to price because they have an increased buying power and may even be
willing to pay more as long as they are guaranteed of good quality. Advertising will disseminate very
useful information to the potential customers. It will affect demand by creating an awareness and
interest in the company`s products. It helps the company communicate potentially attractive attributes
of its products that are superior to those of its customers. Domino`s needs to conduct extensive
advertising before it opens its doors to the people of Waldorf. This will make the people anticipate the
company`s commencement of operations and mentally influence their interest in its products and
consequently influence their demand for Domino`s products. The size of the population also has huge
impact on demand. There has to be enough number of people for a business venture to be successful
and attain good levels of profitability. A large population will avail to the company a sizable and
diverse target market and will also enable the company to benefit from economies of scale. Apart from
the size of the size of the population, it is also

Stop-and-Frisk Policy
The stop and frisk policy could be considered a big controversy facing New York in recent times. The
whole concept behind this stopping and frisking is the police officer, with reasonable suspicion of
some crime committed or about to be committed, stops a pedestrian, questions them, then if needed
frisks the person. This policy started gaining public attention back in 1968 from the Terry v. Ohio
case. A police officer saw the three men casing a store and he believed they were going to rob the
store; this led to him stopping and frisking them. After frisking them, he found a pistol and took the
weapon from the men. The men then cried foul and claimed they were unconstitutionally targeted and
frisked. One of the biggest reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once in a high crime area, the police use every tool they have to send the message that law and order
remains in effect (Mac Donald). Knowing that police cannot take people from these high crime areas
and take away their weapons may spark fear in the residents living in those areas. Stop and frisk was
initially employed as a sort of crime deterrent, a way to keep crime off of the streets. Without this
policy, criminals will not have any incentive to stop carrying concealed weapons; this will cause crime
to rise again and citizens to live in fear.
With the abolishment of stop and frisk reasonable suspicion will have a stricter definition. In the
Alabama v. White case an officer got an anonymous tip and then detaining the men based on that tip. (
Stop and Frisk ). The case questioned whether that tip was reason enough to detain White. People
question whether the police have enough reasonable suspicion to stop half of the people that are
stopped because of the stop and frisk policy. Rolando del Carmen, a professor of Criminal Justice at
the Sam Houston State University, wrote, A stop is valid only if an officer has reasonable suspicion
that a suspect has committed a crime or is about to commit a crime... In contrast, a frisk has only one
purpose: officer protection. A frisk for any other purpose is invalid even if evidence of a crime is later
discovered (57). This clearly states under what conditions a police officer can

Scanlon And Wilkinson s Two Main Reasons For The...
Both Scanlon and Wilkinson give instrumental arguments against socio economic inequalities. First
both views are summarized, after which the main differences between their views is highlighted.
Scanlon gives five diverse reasons for the elimination of inequalities in societies (Scanlon, 1996: 2 5).
The first reason is at base a humanitarian concern, for example to alleviate suffering. If some people
are living under terrible conditions, the gap between the rich and the poor provides the opportunity to
reduce the suffering of those people, without causing others to suffer a similar fate. The second reason
for objecting inequality is that people should not be treated as inferior or made to feel inferior, for
example through privileges of rank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first main difference is that the argument Wilkinson gives is based on empirical data analysis,
while Scanlon s reasons are not. The second main difference is that we need to reduce inequality in
order to improve the average well being of our societies , because inequalities lead to deteriorations in
social relations, health and human capital according to Wilkinson, but according to Scanlon we don t
always need to intervene to reduce inequality. The force of the first reason Scanlon gives for the
elimination of inequalities fades away if the situation of both rich and poor greatly improves, also if
the difference between them is the same or has even increased. The same goes for the third reason
Scanlon gives for objecting inequality: if inequality doesn t give some people an unacceptable degree
of control over the lives of other, then inequality is allowed. Also the fourth reason for pursuing
equality can be compatible with large inequalities, it is only required that they result from a fair
process. The last reason Scanlon gives in his article might also be a fairly weak one. If it is assumed
that other things equal, all individuals have equal claims to welfare, then much depends on how many
things there are that might not be equal. For example, people ought to be equal in the levels of welfare
they enjoy, except for differences in welfare resulting from people s own free choices, which may also
result in inequality. Only according to the second reason Scanlon gives for objecting inequality we
always need to eliminate the differences in question. The third main difference is that Scanlon s
second reason for objecting inequality is that people should not be treated as inferior or made to feel
inferior and therefore people need to be protected against reasonable and undeserved feelings of loss
of self esteem, but according to Wilkinson that s not a reason for objecting inequality, though

Ronald Reagan Commemorative Speech
Second Main Point Description of Speech
a. Brief summary of speech Ronald Reagan s address is a commemorative speech meant to honor the
victims of the Challenger disaster and bring hope to a nation facing tragedy by encouraging the
continuation of space travel. According to our textbook, a commemorative speech is When we speak
to praise, memorialize, or celebrate...a person, event, or idea (Houck, ch. 4). In this speech, Reagan s
main focus is to memorialize the victims of the Challenger disaster, but he also aims to celebrate and
praise their dedication to exploration.
i. During this address to the nation, Ronald Reagan followed chronological order by first comparing
the disaster to other space faring disasters that previously occurred, then discussing Challenger itself,
and finally providing his vision for hope and continuing exploration in the future. ii. Organizing his
speech in this way was very effective to reassure Americans that the nation would rise up from this
tragedy. By first discussing tragedies of the past, saying, Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost
three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But we ve never lost an astronaut in flight. We ve
never had a tragedy like this (Eidenmuller), Reagan acknowledges that the country has overcome
tragedies before, even if they were different. He then discusses the current situation of losing the
Challenger astronauts and the impact of the tragedy as the country mourns. By ending on his

factors are important in inter ethnic relationships between patients and health care providers. Being

the Panama Pacific International Exposition San Francisco California 1915 (7 in. x 11 in.) There were
ochre columns, topped by boxes, mixed with pale green ones. The boxes were originally meant to
house small trees and hanging vines, but these were not planted for budgetary reasons. At each corner
of the boxes stood statues of women looking inwards, sculpted by Ulric Ellerhusen. They were meant
to represent the melancholy of life without art. The colonnades stood along the side of the lagoon, as
can be seen in the second image, with the reflection of the tranquil water adding a pleasant element.
Along the side of the walkway in the pergola was a garden of small trees and shrubbery. Plants were
present everywhere in the Palace, along the pergola and the rotunda, befitting the theme of a decaying
ruin, overrun by nature. According to Maybeck, it is the water and the trees that people came to see
(Macomber, 23). The natural scenery was integral to his design. The combination of majestic

Gender Challenges Within The Business Of Sports
Abstract Gender challenges in sports have been around for centuries. Male and female genders are
treated differently in more than one way. The research I have gathered show the differences in all
aspects of sports related business areas such as, ticket sales, facilities, price of tickets, media coverage,
Sports Illustrated covers, and sports reporters. The purpose of this research is to bring attention the
disparities that women follow in the business of sports. Women are stereotyped, discriminated against,
and harassed in all aspects I have discussed. So my final thoughts on my research are that women will
always be acknowledged for their beauty, body, and sex appeal. A woman s knowledge of sports,

The purpose of this research is to bring attention to the lack of women s sports coverage in the media

Sales In 1994 the ticket prices for 308 different universities within the NCAA division 1 men s and
women s basketball teams were validated in a study. The study shows that men s prices started out
higher than the price of women s basketball tickets. From 1994 to 1997 both men s and women s
ticket prices increased a quarter. (p. 229) by 1997 men s basketball tickets totaled to be $9.75 and
women s tickets were $4.75. (p. 230) Analysis shows that the increase in men s tickets compared to
women s is shown through the evaluation of each athletic program.(p. 234) For example, the
University of Tennessee women s basketball program is stronger than the men s basketball program
therefore ticket sells for the UT women s basketball is going to be a higher margin than the men. The
University of Kentucky men s basketball program is stronger than the women s so the big blue fan
base would be paying a higher price to watch the wildcats play at Rupp Arena than the lady cats
playing Memorial Coliseum. The discrepancy in gender shows that the ticket prices for men tend to be
higher than women. From the study in the early 90 s to now the ticket pricing has shown more equity
in both genders athletic events. Discrimination in Olympics News Coverage The

Suffragist Alice Paul got transferred out of the psychopathic ward of Washington, and being force fed.
During her toil Alice Paul said, Why not let this miserable creature starve. The country would be much

She threatened to kill herself of starvation. She was very determined, she was force fed multiple times,
but she cared so much for her companion that she didn t give up. Amidst her hunger strike she and her
companions were put into solitary confinement inside a tiny cell with boarded up windows. All this

  • 3. African Countries And Africa s Modern Day Lingual Issues Africa is the most fascinating continent on our planet due to the thousands of cultures that are able to thrive there. Africa is the most lingual diverse continent in the world with over three thousand languages spoken there. The most common languages spoken in Africa are English, French, and Portuguese, however most African countries are composed of tribes, each with their own dialect of language. The issue lies in the fact that most of these languages are not mutually intelligible. Therefore, having thousands of languages has contributed to the downfall and stunted economic growth of many African countries such as Nigeria and Tanzania. Having hundreds of languages in a country composed of tribes can cause multiple issues and can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... European colonization is the main cause for the numerous amount of languages in the continent of Africa. After the industrial revolution, Europe was searching for money, therefore they colonized in order to enrich themselves. Ethiopia and Libya were the only countries in Africa to resist the Europeans and prevent their country from being taken over. Otherwise, all the other countries were colonized. The Europeans sharing the same land brought about a whole new set of problems. The Europeans put their own cultural practices into use in Africa which included their languages. The native Africans began to pick up these languages and localizing them. This was the beginning of the linguistic melting pot that we see today in many African countries. As a result of European colonization, we saw many languages emerge out of Africa. As time has progressed, we have failed to see any extinction of these languages of which highly contributes to Africa s modern day linguistic issues. Nigeria supports over 500 languages inside its borders, however English has been the official language since independence from Britain. Now nearly 60 years later, Nigerians are proposing the idea of changing the official language to an indigenous language for multiple reasons. Nigerians believe that an indigenous language is the key to resolving problems concerning national unity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Age Of Wisdom And Clarity INTRODUCTION Everyone in the United States has had some sort of interaction with a person from the church, at a church, in a church and has seen countless images of Jesus in various states of crucifixion to constantly remind you of his sacrifice, a promise to you that you are forgiven and you have a place in heaven. Now, this essay is not for everyone, some people cannot function without a crutch, or life is so bad this is the only escape from reality that is possible, this essay is for those who like me as a child was so confused about the Christian religion, but could never isolate those reasons until entering an age of wisdom and clarity. His Birth Jesus s birth story is known by us all in some form or other. His birth is celebrated in countless songs, and festooned, mangered, and otherwise decorated to include gifting friends and family. Amen. Beginning this story and journey wise men, most say three, correlated by the three extravagant gifts. Three wise men followed a star which took them to the palace of King Herod, where the King said he had heard the Lord s baby was born in Bethlehem. Grabbing up the gifts befitting a heavenly child, the men head off to Bethlehem to find the Christ child. Quickly these wise men traverse to Bethlehem and discover the Christ child in a manger with his mother, and the guy married to his mom. Everyone can see a manger with its clean straw mother and husband around a baby with animals and three guys with presents. Even this little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. New Year Eve Party Essay New Year s Eve has become one of the biggest days of the year for parties and events throughout the world. Therefore, an unlimited amount of events are planned and executed on the last day of the year; this year I attended a New Year eve party at the house of a co worker. The party was held in a neighborhood just inside the city of Charlotte. It has been a while since I attended a house party, so there are some aspects that come along with a house party that will increase the amount of risk associated with the staging of the New Year Eve party. The name of the event was Shari and Cue s New Year Eve party; the event was held on December 31, 2015. The party started at 9:00pm, and was scheduled to end at 2:00 am January 1, 2016. However ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The event was held at a house so the facility was well managed. There was one entrance into the basement, which led to the crowd being forced to use the same stairway to enter and exit the through the same area. I would have suggested that the event planners had selected another venue to hold the party because the party had a cramped feeling to it. Therefore, the exit and entrance was clearly marked, but it was a lack of actually signs used to identify the exit and entrance. The nature of the event made the need for security to be moot, everyone that was invited to the event was friends of the party host. Thus, security may have been overkill at an event of this scale. The event was lacking ADA accommodations, if there was an attendee that need ADA accommodations to make to the basement where the majority of the activities were being held, then the lack of wheelchair access would have been an issue. When planning an event, the scale and scope of the event is vital to consider the size of the crowd that will be attending the event. The New Year Eve party had between 50 60 attendees throughout the course of the event. Based on the information provided by the event planner, there was probably 15 more guest than they initial planned to host at the party. The location of the event caused the flow of the traffic to become a possible issue. When holding an event in a private neighborhood, there will be a limited number ... • 6. Joseph Plumb Martin Essay Joseph Plumb Martin was born upon the twenty first of November, in the year of 1760 (Martin 6). His grandparents raised him on their Connecticut farm. Inspired by the Battles of Lexington and Concord he decided to enlist into the army. He was eager to help for the patriotic cause. In June of 1776, at the age of 15, Martin was able to enlist but didn t want to sign up for a long enlistment. Soldiers at the time were enlisting for a year s service but he did not like that and thought it was too long a time for him for the first trial, I wished only to take a priming before I took upon me the whole coat of paint for a soldier (Martin 16). Orders soon came allowing men to enlist for six months so Martin enrolled in the Connecticut ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He goes on to explain the living conditions he had to endure and his lack of sleep. It was utterly impossible to lie down and to get any rest or sleep on account of the mud Martin recalls, and can say in sincerity that I never lay down to sleep a minute in all that time (Martin 77). The fighting at Fort Mifflin allowed Washington and his troops to withdraw to winter quarters at Valley Forge. It was too late in the season for the British to follow them. After arriving at Valley Forge Martin and his fellow soldiers were about to go through the famously long cold winter that awaited them. Martin wrote, Our prospect was indeed dreary. In our miserable condition, to go into the wild woods and build us habitations to stay (not to live) in, in such a weak, starved and naked condition, was appalling in the highest degree (Martin 89). He talks about lying there two nights and one day, and had not a morsel of any thing to eat all the time (Martin 90). Martin describes the travel and the toll it took on men. I had now to travel the rest of the day, after marching all the day and night before and fighting all the morning. I had eaten nothing since the noon of the preceding day, nor did I eat a morsel til the forenoon of the next day, and I needed rest as much as victuals. After the army had collected again and recovered from their panic, we were kept marching and countermarching, starving and freezing (Martin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. To Each His Own by Leonardo Sciascia IB English 11 World Literature Essay To Each His Own An anonymous person once said, Who gossips with you will gossip of you . This quote is saying that whoever shares gossip with an individual about someone or something will not hesitate when talking about the same person with another individual. Gossip is in no way a new idea, since many people at one point in their lives have taken part in a conversation about another individual s personal business. Every day, especially in modern day society, many men and women are susceptible to gossip and its consequences. One major consequence includes false information being spread around, which causes people to become misled; this may eventually cause loss of a person s reputation. The way gossip can affect many different things is presented in a plethora of scenarios in life and literature. An analysis of literary terms and techniques in Leonardo Sciascia s novel To Each His Own demonstrates the idea that gossip in small towns may sometimes be extremely virulent since it is spreading false information and can affect one s reputation through the vilification of that person. Nature vs. Nurture was brought up on multiple occasions throughout the interviews saying that both are important. This made sense because just like any trait, if you don t use it then you lose it. One might be born with the right traits and characteristics but it is ones experiences that really brings them to light. It was brought up more than once that being born with those traits just makes the path to being a leader easier. Though there was one who thought one could only be born to be a leader. Essay on Minorities in Song of Solomon Minorities within Minorities in Song of Solomon In a study about minorities, the groups that are differing from the dominant culture are seen as homogeneous. But, if we look deeper into the groups, we can see that there are distinctions among the minorities concerning lifestyle and social status. In Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon the author provides examples in the background of the story that shows people with differential identities of the general identity of the minority group. These rides were a way to satisfy himself that he was indeed a successful man (31). It is impressive how Morrison reflects Macon s desires in life with the route of the Sunday rides: ...through the rough part of town, over the bypass downtown, and headed for the wealthy white neighborhoods (32). The difference between Milkman and his father is that he was born rich and does not have the ambitions of his father. But, because of the way he was raised, he cannot prevent himself from acting different from the African American society. In fact, we see that he has only Guitar as a friend. He likes to spend time with women in parties. The result of his wealthy life and the fact that he was raised in a city shows us his distinction from the society when he arrives in Shalimar. When Milkman talks with the shopkeeper Mr. Solomon, he grows up the anticipation of the people around him. The reasons why they are offended by Milkman is clearly stated in the following passage: They looked with hatred at the city Negro who could buy a car as if it were a bottle of whiskey because the one he had was broken. And what s more, who had said so in front of them. He hadn t bothered to say his name, nor ask theirs, had called them them, and would certainly despise their days, which should have been spent harvesting their own crops, instead of waiting around ... The reasons I think this include these high school graduates should be able to make their own decisions, college is a great path immediately following high school and finally forced service would lead to lack of motivation for workers. These points argue that joining the civil services is an obstacle, preventing these kids from pursuing their dreams. High school graduates should have the right to make their own decisions on their future. If high school graduates work for the civil services, a majority of the population of workers would not wish to be there. Many young adults would love to take the path of civil service, however, if everyone was required to do it, It would not be a positive atmosphere for these young adults to serve. This would not be valuable to the civil services, and it would be invaluable to the people participating in it. A lack of motivation leads to a lack of results for civil services. • 11. Effects Of Sleep Walking And Night Walking Abstract One of the most frightening sleep occurrences to a family is when a family member is having a night terror, or sleep walking. It s difficult to understand how someone could have their eyes open, walking, and talking but not really being awake. For the person that has the sleeping issue, they have no memory of the occurrence. However, observing a person going through one of these episodes makes it appear that the person is witnessing pure horror, not to mention the confusion if they happen to wake up. This paper will explore the psychophysiological aspects of parasomnia with a focus on night terrors and sleep walking. Including psychological aspects that pertain to the mind, and the physiological aspects that pertain to the living system of sleepwalking and night terrors. The paper will also examine an actual current case of a 4 year old that currently has night terrors, and an 18 year old young adult that sleep walks almost nightly. Finally, the paper will conclude with current treatments for both night terrors and sleeping walking when the person doesn t just grow out of the sleep disturbance. Taking a closer look into parasomnias, will offer more clarity in understanding how important good quality sleep is to all people of all ages. Keywords: Slow Wave Sleep, REM Sleep, Memory, Learning, Sleep Deprivation, Parasomnia, Night Terrors, and Sleep Walking Sleep Disorders: Night Terrors and Sleepwalking The one human need that all organisms require is sleep. The body will eventually shut down to get rest because it requires sleep to function properly. Adequate sleep is what keeps our learning and memory on point. Sleep deprived people can t focus their attention to its full potential, because there is a lack in a basic human need. Studies done on both animals and humans suggest that the quantity and quality of sleep have a profound impact on learning and memory. According to the article, In the study, findings suggest that sleep disturbances can be detected using both subjective and objective measures and that, for these individuals, fluctuations in sleep duration may have real consequences for daytime anxiety (Mullin et al., 2017). • 12. St. Thomas Aquinas Arguments For The Existence Of God When contemplating the theories of ethics, one can expand upon the ideas of Utilitarian and Duty ethics using St. Thomas Aquinas arguments for the existence of God. The concept of Utilitarian ethics suggests that a moral act is one that brings about the most happiness. With this definition, one must conclude that there must be some optimal happiness or good. If there is a choice between levels of happiness then one must define the optimal happiness or the most good that could exist in order to judge the relative goodness of an act. Therefore there must be a maximum goodness or happiness which is the cause of all other means of happiness. This argument is one that corresponds with St. Thomas Aquinas proof of the existence of God. In his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Happiness is not the only key in determining the ethics of an act according to Kant and the theory of Duty ethics. In the article The Metaphysics of Morals, contained within the dialogue between the student and the teacher, Kant argues that one must balance happiness and reason. Happiness, being the ultimate or overall good or welfare of a being, must be rationalized by reason, being the measure of how worthy one is of this happiness. The observance of reason is then what Kant deems worthiness to happiness. Nevertheless, Kant also brings up an interesting point that humanity cannot always provide it selves with happiness, but that the circumstances of our lives are often out of our control. He then argues that the fact that there is some kind of order and wisdom in nature that is outside of our control points to the workings of a higher power. This argument again points to the fact that there must be some ultimate good or goal in which creation as a whole is designed. This argument parallels St. Thomas Aquinas fifth argument the Argument from Design begins with the fact that all natural bodies work toward some goal, and do not do so by choice. He then states that most natural things lack knowledge and things that lack knowledge, like an arrow for example, can achieve a goal by being directed from someone with ... Cole writes many songs about the life of a man in the city or his early life in the inner city. In the song Love Yourz J. Cole uses epanaphora, anecdotes, and rhetorical questions to create a mood and message that stresses the insignificance of money. Love yourz is a fantastic song that makes you truly appreciate life. J Cole uses epanaphora to repeat lines that accentuate the importance of happiness and family over material objects. J Cole starts the song with an epanaphora. This repetition of an opening phrase sets the tone and message for the song. In the first three lines J Cole repeats the line No such thing , The second line states no such thing as a life that s better than yours. This specific sentence in the song has an amazing message that is portrayed throughout the entire song. We will never find happiness while chasing others lives. J. Money is nothing without happiness and J Cole uses these rhetorical questions to emphasize this theme and message of the song. He makes all of his listeners not only question the written line but their own lives. • 15. How The Grinch Stole Christmas Essay I have chosen to look at How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss from a Marxist perspective. The Marxist school of criticism focuses on the clash between the dominant class and the lower class. This poem is about the Grinch, who is very different from everyone else in his society, making him an outcast that nobody wants to be around. The Grinch is the embodiment of the lower class because he does not get to make important decisions and he lives in isolation. The Whos are the complete opposite of the Grinch, as they represent the dominant class and they get to live together in their tight knit society without any worries. The Grinch wanted to destroy Christmas because nobody gave him a present, as they all viewed him as evil and as detrimental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, this is an example of the lower class trying to overcompensate by trying to overthrow and cause chaos to the dominant class. The people of that era were very adamant to accept people who were different from them because they wanted everyone to be the same and follow the same rules. The Grinch did not want to follow the rules and so he broke away from the town, to live somewhere where his voice was heard. Once the Grinch stole all of the presents, stocking and trees, he realized that the real value was not in the presents, but in the people celebrating together. This caused him to look past his hate and break the class system, by joining in with the Whos. As a result, he was no longer separated in a separate class, as he transitioned into the dominant class. I believe that this poem does not fully reflect the economic division or even the class division, as it is a children s poem which mostly focuses on the message, instead of specific details. Although, we can infer that the Grinch was in a different class system, due to his attitude towards the other people of the village and his feeling of resentment and ... It was directed by Leni Riefenstahl and funded by the Nazi party. The question of whether Triumph of the Will was created for the purpose of Nazi propaganda or simply as a documentary has provoked historical debate. There is no doubt that the film was used as propaganda, as when the Nazi s annexed Austria, triumph of the will was streamed in every cinema to convert the disillusioned Austrians into practising Nazis. However, historians have questioned the intentions of the film s creator. Leni Riefenstahl was found to be a Nazi Sympathiser by the French in 1950, but, her reluctance to accept that the film was created as propaganda has triggered a debate among historians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third flaw in Leni s argument is that she claimed to be showing the congress through a non expert eye, however the film techniques employed in Triumph of the will show otherwise. It is hard to believe that she didn t know anything about the Nazi ideology as she had emphasised aspects of Nazi beliefs highlighted in Hitler s 1924 book Mein Kampf. The opening scene of Triumph of the will shows Hitler s plane flying above white, pillowy clouds that possess every connotation linked to heaven. This flying through heaven has been accompanied with mystical, fairy tale like music adding to the spiritual undertones of the man that had begun his plunge into the disillusioned world that he was there to save. If Leni was simply going to make the film artistic, why would she specifically choose Hitler to descend through the clouds and into Nuremburg where people were screaming for their fuhrer. She didn t choose this imagery as a mistake, she wanted to show that Hitler attained Jesus like qualities. And if she was simply filming the rally as a documentary, why was it so important to show Hitler flying through the clouds, as at this point, the rally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As well, the subsequent emperors, Caligula and Nero followed in the same path, portraying violence and negatively impacting the city of Rome. Over the centuries, political theorists have established renditions of what political theory is. This essay will focus on Plato, Nietzsche, and Aristotle, and their works, which respectively define the concepts of the common good and the significance of philosophers to the welfare of the state, self deceiving intellect and the power of authority over our intellectual lives, and the concepts of interdependency and the importance of virtue and happiness for a successful political framework. In Republic Plato uses Socrates in dialogue to state, Once one has seen it (Forum of Good), however, one must conclude that it is the cause of all that is correct and beautiful in anything, that it produces both light and its source in the visible realm, and that in the intelligible realm it controls and provides truth and understanding, so that anyone who is to act sensibly in private or public must see it (Plato 189). Plato uses Socrates to argue that the only people with true knowledge are those who have access to the Forum of Good. According to Plato, this Forum is the source of all other forums and all intelligence and knowledge so a political state must have access to the Forum in order to thrive. However, the only ones who have access to this forum are philosophers and for this reason he argues that the welfare of the state is dependent on the existence of philosophers. He furthers this argument by stating that as a result it is philosophers who are most fit to rule, thus introducing the concept of a philosopher king as the most fit form of political rule for the welfare of all. The comparison between Moses journey and that of the white men to the native land suggests that Kipling views colonization as a holy act where the white men lead the native people out of the darkness of slavery, poverty, torture and ignorance. The whole concept behind this stopping and frisking is the police officer, with reasonable suspicion of some crime committed or about to be committed, stops a pedestrian, questions them, then if needed frisks the person. This policy started gaining public attention back in 1968 from the Terry v. Ohio case. A police officer saw the three men casing a store and he believed they were going to rob the store; this led to him stopping and frisking them. After frisking them, he found a pistol and took the weapon from the men. The men then cried foul and claimed they were unconstitutionally targeted and frisked. One of the biggest reason ... Knowing that police cannot take people from these high crime areas and take away their weapons may spark fear in the residents living in those areas. Stop and frisk was initially employed as a sort of crime deterrent, a way to keep crime off of the streets. Without this policy, criminals will not have any incentive to stop carrying concealed weapons; this will cause crime to rise again and citizens to live in fear. With the abolishment of stop and frisk reasonable suspicion will have a stricter definition. In the Alabama v. White case an officer got an anonymous tip and then detaining the men based on that tip. • 29. Scanlon And Wilkinson s Two Main Reasons For The... Both Scanlon and Wilkinson give instrumental arguments against socio economic inequalities. First both views are summarized, after which the main differences between their views is highlighted. Scanlon gives five diverse reasons for the elimination of inequalities in societies (Scanlon, 1996: 2 5). The first reason is at base a humanitarian concern, for example to alleviate suffering. If some people are living under terrible conditions, the gap between the rich and the poor provides the opportunity to reduce the suffering of those people, without causing others to suffer a similar fate. The second reason for objecting inequality is that people should not be treated as inferior or made to feel inferior, for example through privileges of rank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first main difference is that the argument Wilkinson gives is based on empirical data analysis, while Scanlon s reasons are not. The second main difference is that we need to reduce inequality in order to improve the average well being of our societies , because inequalities lead to deteriorations in social relations, health and human capital according to Wilkinson, but according to Scanlon we don t always need to intervene to reduce inequality. The force of the first reason Scanlon gives for the elimination of inequalities fades away if the situation of both rich and poor greatly improves, also if the difference between them is the same or has even increased. The same goes for the third reason Scanlon gives for objecting inequality: if inequality doesn t give some people an unacceptable degree of control over the lives of other, then inequality is allowed. Also the fourth reason for pursuing equality can be compatible with large inequalities, it is only required that they result from a fair process. The last reason Scanlon gives in his article might also be a fairly weak one. If it is assumed that other things equal, all individuals have equal claims to welfare, then much depends on how many things there are that might not be equal. For example, people ought to be equal in the levels of welfare they enjoy, except for differences in welfare resulting from people s own free choices, which may also result in inequality. Only according to the second reason Scanlon gives for objecting inequality we always need to eliminate the differences in question. The third main difference is that Scanlon s second reason for objecting inequality is that people should not be treated as inferior or made to feel inferior and therefore people need to be protected against reasonable and undeserved feelings of loss of self esteem, but according to Wilkinson that s not a reason for objecting inequality, though ... The pergola can be more closely seen in the next image, reprinted from the same source and measuring 4 by 6 inches, as well as in the third and fourth images, which are photographs from Souvenir Views of the Panama Pacific International Exposition San Francisco California 1915 (7 in. x 11 in.) There were ochre columns, topped by boxes, mixed with pale green ones. The boxes were originally meant to house small trees and hanging vines, but these were not planted for budgetary reasons. At each corner of the boxes stood statues of women looking inwards, sculpted by Ulric Ellerhusen. They were meant to represent the melancholy of life without art. The colonnades stood along the side of the lagoon, as can be seen in the second image, with the reflection of the tranquil water adding a pleasant element. Along the side of the walkway in the pergola was a garden of small trees and shrubbery. Plants were present everywhere in the Palace, along the pergola and the rotunda, befitting the theme of a decaying ruin, overrun by nature. • 33. Gender Challenges Within The Business Of Sports Abstract Gender challenges in sports have been around for centuries. Male and female genders are treated differently in more than one way. The research I have gathered show the differences in all aspects of sports related business areas such as, ticket sales, facilities, price of tickets, media coverage, Sports Illustrated covers, and sports reporters. The purpose of this research is to bring attention the disparities that women follow in the business of sports. Women are stereotyped, discriminated against, and harassed in all aspects I have discussed. So my final thoughts on my research are that women will always be acknowledged for their beauty, body, and sex appeal. A woman s knowledge of sports, athleticism, and love for the ... The purpose of this research is to bring attention to the lack of women s sports coverage in the media and show how male sports have taken priority over women s sports. Gender Challenges in Ticket Sales In 1994 the ticket prices for 308 different universities within the NCAA division 1 men s and women s basketball teams were validated in a study. The study shows that men s prices started out higher than the price of women s basketball tickets. From 1994 to 1997 both men s and women s ticket prices increased a quarter. (p. 229) by 1997 men s basketball tickets totaled to be $9.75 and women s tickets were $4.75. (p. 230) Analysis shows that the increase in men s tickets compared to women s is shown through the evaluation of each athletic program.(p. 234) For example, the University of Tennessee women s basketball program is stronger than the men s basketball program therefore ticket sells for the UT women s basketball is going to be a higher margin than the men. The University of Kentucky men s basketball program is stronger than the women s so the big blue fan base would be paying a higher price to watch the wildcats play at Rupp Arena than the lady cats playing Memorial Coliseum. The discrepancy in gender shows that the ticket prices for men tend to be higher than women. From the study in the early 90 s to now the ticket pricing has shown more equity in both genders athletic events. Discrimination in Olympics News Coverage The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During her toil Alice Paul said, Why not let this miserable creature starve. The country would be much better off without her and the balance of her gang of pickets. (Dismore 1). Alice Paul went on this immense hunger strike for her six companions. She wanted to give her six companions better food. She threatened to kill herself of starvation. She was very determined, she was force fed multiple times, but she cared so much for her companion that she didn t give up. Amidst her hunger strike she and her companions were put into solitary confinement inside a tiny cell with boarded up windows. All this shows Alice Paul will never give up and she spoke with her actions not her words. Reason 2 Throughout her life Alice Paul fought hard against president Woodrow Wilson. She put up banners. Did silent protesting in front of the White House. Throughout this she endured mant many things. She endured many things. She had to stay in one house for 2 days due to public outrage when she showed a Kaiser Wilson banner to a Russian person going into the White House. In Alice Paul it says, They returned every day, in good weather and bad, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She did countless things to pass an amendment which would grant the women their wish of being able to have their rights. Including a hunger strike, a silent protest, and she even endured force feeding. In Alice Paul it says, For five months the White House siege continued; while Congress refused to act without word from the president. (William and Mary Lavender 4). This shows the frustration that she had to go through, and how much the government seemed stubborn. She never gave up despite knowing the fact that president Wilson wouldn t budge. In the end she was able to convince president Wilson. She never even married. If that doesn t show her devotion I don t know what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
