Malcolm X Civil Rights Activist
Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little was a civil rights activist along with being the voice of the Black
Muslim religious group. Malcolm was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the fourth
child of eight siblings born to Earl and Louise Little. While Louise was a stay at home mom or
housewife, Earl Little was a preacher along with being an active member of the Universal Negro
Improvement Association. He was also a big supporter of Marcus Garvey, an advocate of the Black
Nationalism and Pan African movements. As a result of Mr. Little being a civil rights activist, his
family was punished for it with constant harassment from many white supremacist groups such as the
Klu Klux Klan. The harassment the family endured forced them to move many times. In 1926 Mr.
little moved his family from Nebraska to Wisconsin and then in 1928, moved to Lansing, Michigan. In
1931 while living in Michigan, Earl Little was found dead lying across streetcar tracks. Malcolm s
family strongly believed it was a murder but the police ruled Earl s death an accident. Earl s ... Show

Michigan where he enrolled at Mason High. While attending Mason High school a major turning
point of his life came when one of his english teachers said it was unrealistic for him to be a lawyer. In
result of this Malcolm dropped out the next year, being only 15 years old. After dropping out Malcolm
moved to Boston to leave with his half sister. Living on the streets of Boston, he soon turned to the
criminal ways and began selling drugs. As he got deeper into the life of crime he soon found himself
locked up with a 10 year sentence in 1946 on charges of larceny. While being incarcerated Malcolm

Endotoxin Essay
Endotoxin
Endotoxin are bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS), and is formed especially by lipids and sugars. It is
present in the outer cell envelope of gram negative bacterias and its purpose are to maintain the cell
membrane intact. The endotoxin is the principal component of the bacterial membrane. (Raetz, 2002)
LPS has a structure based on three main components: Lipid A, that is the hydrophobic part, an R
polysaccharide and an O polysaccharide (or O antigen). Consequently, it has both hydrophilic and
hydrophobic regions, which makes possible the formation of aggregates when the endotoxin goes into
the plasma.
According to Raetz (2009) when recombinant proteins are produced in E.coli or other gram negative
bacteria, it is necessary to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main difference is that the first one uses microporous membranes, and those contains functional
ligands attached to the internal pore surface throughout the membrane structure.
The advantage of membrane adsorbers is that the biding sites are not nestles within diffusive pores,
they are located alond the through pores, therefore, is possible to eliminate the diffusive pores, unlike
the packed column.
The membrane is made of a polymeric substrate that is chemically coupled to a functional ligand. Liu
(2010) also states that the membrane that attracted most of industry interest in purification process was
the quarternary amine (Q) membrane. At something about neutral to somewhat basic pH and at low
conductivities, endotoxin adhere to the Q membrane, while the basic antibody molecules flow through
the membrane without being bound.
Unfortunately, there are some limitations in this method, as its irregular flow distributuion, non
identical membrane size distribution, variable membrane thickness, the availability of appropriate
scale down devices and low binding capacities. Low biding capacity is attribuited to low surface area
as well as poor flow

First Central Bank Case
First Central Bank Case
Part I:
River City was a community of approximately 210,000 people and, because of the influence of the
International Metalworkers Union (IMU), had been considered a union town by most everyone. The
IMU was heavily involved with organizing many of the firms and institutions in the area and was
active in local politics. They had represented the workers at the large auto parts plant since the 1930 s.
Another of the institutions that the IMU had been able to unionize was one of the town s smaller
banks. It had organized the bank s maintenance workers. The IMU was now trying to organize First
Central Bank, the area s largest and oldest commercial bank.
As a result of recent growth, First Central had expanded to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It did this by: (1) banning certain unfair labor practices, (2) providing for secret ballot elections and
majority rule for determining whether a firm s employees were to unionize; and (3) creating the
National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for enforcing these two provisions.
The Taft Hartley Act (Labor Management Relations Act) was passed in 1947. This act prohibited
union unfair labor practices and lists the rights of employees as union members and rights of
employers. The First Amendment permits both employers and employees to exercise free speech by
electioneering during union organization.
As the study guide states, statute and case law have defined a series of unfair practices that employers
and unions may not engage in during electioneering for a union certification election. Some unfair
employer labor practices include 1) interference with union organizing efforts, 2) interference with
employees efforts for mutual aid, 3) tion of a labor organization, 4) support for a labor organization, 5)
discrimination on the basis of participation in union activities, 6) discrimination due to employees
exercise of legal rights, and 7) refusing to bargain or refusing to bargain in good faith. Some unfair
union labor practices include 1) restraint or coercion of employees or union members, 2) refusing to
bargain or refusing to bargain in good faith, 3) strike related conduct that may be illegal, 4) excessive
dues, 5) featherbedding, and 6) coercion of employees to

Pride And Prejudice Social Landscape Essay
In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen carefully depicts the social landscape of England during the late
18th and early 19th centuries. Seemingly mirroring this social landscape is the physical landscape of
the English countryside. In a pivotal scene in which the novel s protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet,
ventures to the home of her future husband, Austen uses the natural landscape to show how Elizabeth,
born of the landed gentry class but with no financial stability, physically ascends to the location of Mr.
Darcy, her love interest and a wealthy gentleman. Yet, the natural landscape is just as much tied to
Elizabeth as it is to the role of society, used to characterize her as strong willed and individualistic.
Thus, the thesis of this paper is, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bennet makes it [t]he business of her life [...] to get her daughters married (Pride and Prejudice 1.1
(3)). Austen uses the word business to emphasize how, more than anything, marriage is an economic
institution meant to guarantee that Mrs. Bennet s daughters not die of starvation. Austen then uses the
rest of the novel to track the Bennet sisters and their ability to find financial security through the
ascension of social classes via marriage. This ascension is ultimately epitomized by the novel s
protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet, who rises from her family s (relatively) low station to become the wife
of the wealthy Mr. Darcy.
The landscape of England itself seems to mirror that ascension. When Elizabeth first visits Mr. Darcy,
one of the main turning points in the novel, she is forced to travel from low elevation to high
elevation, foreshadowing her rise in status through marriage: [Elizabeth and the Gardiners] entered
[the park leading to Pemberley] in one of its lowest points, and drove for some time through a
beautiful wood, stretching over a wide extent (Pride and Prejudice 3.1 (185)). Here, Elizabeth is
marked as having entered the park at one of its lowest points , signifying her family s relatively
modest income, particularly in comparison to Mr. Darcy s. Ultimately, [t]hey gradually ascended for
half a mile, and then found themselves at the top of a considerable eminence, where the wood ceased,

Deadly Force
As the Court said in the case of Tennessee v. Garner, police use of deadly force to apprehend a fleeing
felon from the scene of a residential burglary does not exceed the constitutional limits (Brody Acker,
2010).
I believe that limiting the power of the police to use deadly force makes the officers job more difficult.
Limiting the power makes the officers job more dangerous from the point of the suspect knowing the
officer is unable to respond correctly to a situation. If an officer is unable to use the force necessary
for certain situations, it not only endangers the officer s life but the lives of citizens around them. The
officer s ability to assist the public may also be limited. Why would the public want to call the police
who will be unable to use deadly force to assist them?
Most law abiding citizens in my area have a weapon in their home and if the officer is limited as to the
use of deadly force, the law abiding citizen will then take matters in their own hands. The other
possibility is that crime rate will drastically rise. Criminals will not be fearful of ... Show more content

scrutinized more than ever. Many of the largest police departments were asked to implement new
training and implement new policies that would decrease the number of fatal shootings (Lowery,

an outrage in communities (Lowery, 2016). If you look at these goals of reform, it does make sense to
try to find ways to decrease deadly shootings that are not necessary. It just does not make sense to me

My Canoeing Journey

Breakthrough in life. I always wanted to go to college becauses I knew the endless possibilities that
can happen in my life and my family. When I was given an opportunity to increase my chances at
making college I waste a second to take my chance and looking back on 3 summers I made the right
decision. Through reflecting on my times as breakthrough student, I learned that my biggest area of

A large area of growth I ve experienced as a breakthrough student has been dealing with challenges.
The most challenging part of the BLP retreat was the canoeing trip. This required patience, strength,
and persistence to make to and from our destination. Through paddling I have gotten move arm
strength, but most importantly I fought the struggle and made it to the island. All in all I used the
persist code battle the tiring activity called canoeing. It has taught me to work through difficult task,
no matter how much I want to quit. Although I had to push myself canoeing helped me expand on my
persistence to real world situation.
Another area of growth I ve experienced is public speaking. The most important thing we worked on
at Breakthrough was using your voice. This required confidence and the ability to be calm to be

The Life Cycle Of The Lifecycle Of A Mobile Phone
Lifecycle of a Mobile phone A product passes through different stages during its entire lifespan. Each
phase has its own characteristics which mainly defines the performance of the product (Stark, 2015). It
is these unique characteristics that mark the end of one stage and the onset of another. The present
article focused on the lifecycle of a mobile phone. The first phase of the lifecycle of a mobile phone is
referred as the introduction stage. During this phase, the mobile phone is just a new product. The
phone is in good shape with little or no defects. Its rate of power consumption is splendid and all the
safety features are functional. At this stage, the warranty for the new phone is valid, and in case of any
defect, the owner can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final stage through which a product passes is referred as the decline stage. At this stage, the
product is approaching the end of its lifespan. The product is characterized by major defects that
include malfunctioning of batteries, broken screens, and erratic behavior of the controls and displays
(Stark, 2015). Such issues significantly impair the functioning of the product and in most cases such
functions cannot be retrieved even with the best technical support. At this stage, the efficiency of the
phone greatly declines. Moreover, such issues are very expensive to rectify. Due to the inefficiency of
the product, it is finally disposed of either by selling it to a dealer or by withdrawing its operations.
Disposal of Compact Discs (CDs) In my neighborhood, the most commonly used method of disposal
of Compact Discs (CDs) is by shredding the discs using a shredding machine and then disposing the
shredded parts into a garbage pit or a landfill. This method is used by most people in the neighborhood
as it seems to be less toxic to the environment (Al Salem, Lettieri Baeyens, 2009). The community in
which I live does not have a mechanism through which such wastes can be recycled. Just like me,
most of the people shred their waste Compact Discs (CDs), with the exception of a few who burn

The Munich Agreement And The Anglo German Declaration
For some European powers at the time, The Munich Agreement and the Anglo German Declaration
was considered to have achieved a peace that was thought to be unconceivable. Unfortunately, the
great claims of Neville Chamberlain did not come true. These agreements only delayed the inevitable
between the great European powers and allowed Hitler to gather more territory with relative ease. This
document between the powers of Germany, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom outlined the terms
and conditions under which Germany would annex a large portion of Czechoslovakia. Throughout this
text, the historical context and significance of the Munich Agreement will be analyzed. The Munich
Agreement was produced in hopes to stop Hitler; he was threatening to unleash war upon Europe if he
did not get the Sudetenland. With Hitler s tyrannical pleas, the leaders of Britain, France, and Italy
agreed to the annexation of a large portion of Czechoslovakia out of fear of war (Munich Agreement).
It is important to note that Italy was an ally of Germany. Benito Mussolini, Italy s leader at the time,
was one of Hitler s greatest inspirations during his rise to power. Germany, Italy, Britain, and France
all came together in Munich, Germany to hold a conference to discuss Hitler s tyrannical demands.
The agreement was signed on September 29th, 1938 and it formally allowed for Germany s
annexation of the Sudetenland (Munich Agreement). The agreement came at a time where Europe

Black Meat In Naked Lunch
Fats becomes completely normalized and ends up serving and morphing into the system, here the
system manifests itself as Black Meat (103). According to Naked Lunch, Black Meat is like a tainted

they fall exhausted (31). It has an addictive force that could be claimed to symbolize the need to fit in
the normal society. The act of eating until one is vomiting shows how exhausting and painful it is to
try and satisfy one s need to fit in where parts of you has to be suppressed. This character becomes so

In order to meet the energy demand and a sustainable future, renewable energy is a better way to
achieve it.
Commonly, renewable energy is defined as energy which is able to be captured from existing natural
resources that are replenished rapidly, such as flowing water, sunshine, wind, geothermal heat flows
and ocean [2]. Renewable energy technologies are required to provide technologies to use one or
several renewable energy resources. There are some different types of renewable energy technologies,
which include solar energy, bioenergy, hydropower, wind energy, geothermal energy and tidal energy.
This thesis project will focus on the solar photovoltaic which is currently one of types of solar energy
technologies, and this technology using photovoltaic cells to converts sunlight directly into
electricity.Solar photovoltaic system can generate electricity from sunlight through using PV modules,
and the system can be integrated into building designs, installed on rooftops, or large scale power

Carpenter ants make colonies in maple trees.

Group
Ants won t kill your maple tree directly (Acer spp.), but that doesn t mean that an ant infested maple
tree isn t at some risk. The holes and tunnels left behind by carpenter ants can make tree limbs weaker
and more likely to fall from the tree during windy weather. Holes made by ants may also make the tree
more susceptible to diseases and pathogens that could kill it, even though the ants themselves will not.
The biggest threat of ants in a maple tree, however, is that they will use the tree as a bridge to your
home or other structures.
Why Ants are Present
Ants are known to have a voracious appetite for aphids, and aphids are commonly found in maple
trees. Ants may be swarming your maple simply because it is providing food. Carpenter ants also live

Relationship Between Convergence And Harry Potter
Convergence has become somewhat vital to the success of a screen text; the number of mediums it
engages with can, to some extent, affect how much of a fan base it creates. The power of the media
producer and the power of the media consumer interact in unpredictable ways stated by Henry
Jenkins. (2006:2) Participatory culture has, in some cases, created the potential for more enriched
franchises that surpass their original purpose, some screen texts can develop a lot further than
expected due to how well received they are. The popularity of the most recognizable film franchises
could be seen as the product of convergence within fan culture. In this essay, I am going to discuss the
relationship between Harry Potter fans and convergence and the various ways the fans have
constructed alternate views of the franchise. I will discuss how Harry Potter has become globally
successful through its convergence and fan culture.
Harry Potter is a relevant case study of convergence because it extends past its original platform,
which was books; there are now Harry Potter video games, merchandise, themed websites and, the
most recent of which, theme parks. In this case, Universal, a company in partnership with Warner
Brothers who own Harry Potter, opened a Harry Potter segment to their original theme park in 2014 in
Florida. This was an effort to bring back the former popularity it once had, such as when the first book

Training
The training of the horse varies depending on the race length. A horse s fitness strategy must be
synchronized well to prevent any onset of harm or lameness. This is done to also eliminate the
willingness of the horse to learn. Galloping exercises are suitable for preparation two year old
racehorses, but the amount is limited by both psychological and physical issues. Nearly all competing
horses begin their training prior to most other riding horses at about two years of age.
Trainers
Some of the famous trainers in the history of Australia include Bart Cummings who used to be in
charge of 12 Melbourne Cup winners. Another trainer is Tommy Smith greatly known to win about 30
successive Sydney Trainers Premierships before he passed on. Other prominent trainers include Lee
Freedman, David Hayes. Jack Denham, Colin Hayes, Etienne L. de Mestre, James Scobie and Gai

Irony In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet are two names that are constantly associated with love. Love isn t the half of the
story of Romeo and Juliet, it is moreso a story of conflict and secrecy. The reason for the conflict is
the two wealthy families of Capulet and Montague. The conflict between the two houses leads to the
secrecy involved with Romeo and Juliet s Relationship. This can be seen in the physical conflicts
between the houses, how they view each other, and also the conflicts within the houses that happen
because of other conflicts. The story of Romeo and Juliet starts with a fight between the Montagues
and the Capulets. Act 1 scene 1 starts with a disagreement between two Capulet servants and two
Montague servants. Draw, if you be men. Gregory, remember ... Show more content on

though he is a Montague and it is a Capulet party. Because of this he is overcome with rage and the
desire to kill Romeo. Romeo and Juliet fall in love at the party but later Juliet learns he is a Montague.
It is obvious that the fact that he is a Montague is throwing her off. By a name I know not how to tell

written, I would tear the word. Romeo says that his title isn t who he really is and it won t get in the
way of his love for her. His name and Montague title are now irrelevant because he is so in love with
Juliet. The conflict between Montague and Capulet has brought forth a mutual hatred among the two

Kudler Fine Foods Network
After reviewing the Kudler Fine Food network, a major network overhaul will need to bring the
network up to par with the latest technology. If Kudler Fine Foods is not able to upgrade their systems
then they will fall behind the technological curve and will not be able to compete with other
companies. Kudler needs to do the upgrade not only to keep up with the advances with network
systems but needs to install the proper systems to increase profits. If Kudler does not do constant
upgrades then they will be forced to pay a larger amount for the larger upgrades in the future. It is vital
to install the proper systems that will have the longevity and the capability for future network
expansion without having to spend money on unnecessary upgrades. Currently all the sites are still
running 56K modems, this technology is outdated. This is technology is hindering the communication
speed between each site. Having a high speed connection is crucial to provide real time updates. These
updates provide the profits made each day and the inventory sold so that those items can be restocked
in real time. These modems will be used as redundant system and a new Wide Area Network (WAN)
will be created, each site will be setup with a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). The WAN will
connect all the WLANs together. This will boost the network speed of the WAN and improve the way
employees communicate. The network will be able to support a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

I Am A White, Natural Born Citizen Of The United States
Ethnic Heritage Term Paper I am a white, natural born citizen of the United States, but my family is
made up of a mix of immigrants. My paternal grandmother immigrated to the United States from Sao
Miguel, Portugal. My paternal grandfather s ancestors immigrated from England and Scotland to
Canada. Some of my mother s paternal ancestors immigrated from Spain to France before immigrating
to Canada, and others were Aboriginal Canadians. Three out of my four grandparents have roots in
Quebec, Canada. French Canadian is not a nationality that I identify with, but it is the culture that has
impacted my life the most, outside of American culture.
Out of my six Quebecois great grandparents only my maternal great grandmother is known to be of an
aboriginal background. All of my other great grandparents immigrated to or colonized Canada. There
is little known about my great grandmother s history, except that she moved to North Adams,
Massachusetts from Quebec and married my great grandfather in her early teens.
The first nations of Canada, prior to the landing of Europeans, were divided into six major
geographical groups. My great grandmother s ancestors most likely belonged to the Iroquoian first
nations. The Iroquois people were not nomadic and had a complex system of democratic government.
They are known for the impressive construction of longhouses and their system of farming corn,
beans, and squash. Running was the most popular form of transportation to the Iroquois people

Triple Entente Strategy
Up until World War I, there had never been a war which caused as many deaths as which would take
place in the four years of the war. The cause for the mass increase of death can be correlated with the
different tactics and strategies used in what would be called before World War II as the Great War.
Each major which played a role in World War I created strategies they thought would make them
victorious in by the end of the war. One giant military tactic used by the key player in the First World
War was alliances. The two giant alliances formed were The Triple Entente and the Central Powers.
The Triple Entente contained the countries Great Britain, France and Russia; while The Triple Alliance
was formed between the countries: Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy. By forming alliance before
the war, this led certain countries to be less rational than they should have been. An example, being

Lord Simon Lord Of The Flies Analysis
When put into a life or death situation the evil within someone will eventually claw a way out and
display itself upon actions. This concept is clearly shown in William Golding s Lord of the Flies; a
novel that shows the hope of rescue and the need for survival among a group of boys when they get
stuck on an island by themselves without adult authority. As time on the island progressed, Ralph, the
elected leader began to lose control and authority of the boys; the island caught on fire, boys were
being murdered and rescue was not the main concern anymore, but the need to hunt and kill was. All
humans are born accompanied by both good and evil; however, most humans will live their lives with
the intention of not letting the evil take them over. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simon, from a biblical aspect is Jesus like and is one of the only boys on the island who realized that
the beast was nothing but a child s imagination. During one of the frequently called assemblies the
boys discuss the beast, Simon steps into the conversation and says, what I mean is... maybe it s only us
(Golding, Lord 77). Simon is trying to explain to the boys that maybe the belief in the beast is in their
imaginations and the thing to fear on the island is themselves. Piggy interrupts Simon s theory by
declaring it nuts, but as Simon tried to continue he became inarticulate in his effort to express
mankind s essential illness (Golding, Lord 77). The boys found it difficult and almost impossible to
wrap their heads around what simon was saying, which was, all humans have the potential to become
evil. Nobody has the motive to become evil, all somebody really needs is a situation in which allows

Truth Behind The Mirror
Reflections no longer hold truth when encased by a mirror. There is darkness behind the glass that
seeps into people s subconscious. As it lingers inside them, it does not let up on its firm grasp on the
victim. This demonstrates how society s views can have a negative effect on an individual. Outside
pressure can become an overbearing force that is placed on individuals. People should not try to
capsize a stable boat when there is nothing wrong with it. People are too focused on what makes them
different from society, and how that is a negative thing. However, being unique is what makes them
beautiful. Comparing murky pond water and a crystal clear mirror allows people to see the distortions
in themselves and how everything is not surface deep. When looking into a murky pond or a clear
mirror, people perceive a distorted version of themselves. A pond drenched by pouring rain soon
causes the overflowing waters to escape from the banks and loosens the rich, black soil. The next day,
the cloudy pond is consumed by the disrupted mud which dims the reflection that is cast when the on
looker is looking in. As the mud rises to the surface, the image people have of themselves become
muddled. Mud that is now stirred in with the water will not let the sediment float back to the pond s
bottom which makes it appear that the once clear water will forever remain as a diluted pond. Even the
moss that is scattered on the surface limits the person s view, and capsizes on their

Examples Of Bronfenbrenner
Introduction Urie Bronfenbrenner was a Russian born American psychologist and is best known for
his ecological system in the development of a child where he defines the four concentric systems that
are the micro , the meso , the exo and the macrosystems. He later added a time related fifth system, the
chronosystem. Bronfenbrenner is revered as one of the leading world authorities in the field of
development psychology. The following essay will have an in depth explanation of Bronfenbrenner s
theory and a few examples. Microsystems This is the layer closest to the child, which they have direct
contact with. The microsystem encompasses the relationships and interactions a child has with her
immediate surroundings (Berk, 2000). The structures that is included in this system includes the
family members, school or childcare and community environment. This is the system that shapes the
individual in terms of their moral, social, emotional and spiritual development. The parents may
influence the child s beliefs and development and visa versa Bronfenbrenner calls these bi directional
influences (Härkönen, 2006: 7). Mesosystems This layer provides the connection between the
structures of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the child grows older, the more complex the interactions with the environment becomes. Whatever
happens in the child s life, whether it is direct or indirect, influences the child either negatively or
positively and that s important to understand especially if you are a parent. Also, being a teacher, you
need to understand what your learner is going through or what their behaviour is like in order to be an
effective educator. According to the ecological theory, if the relationships in the immediate
microsystem break down, the child will not have the tools to explore other parts of his environment

The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano...
Born in 1745, Equiano was born a member of the Igbo tribe in a village called Essaka in the kingdom
of Benin. He describes Essaka as a remote and fertile village where slavery is a part of life. Born into
a family of seven, Equiano is the youngest of six sons and the greatest favourite of his mother. One
day, when he and his sister were left to mind their house while their people were gone to their work,
they were both kidnapped and enslaved, violating the unwritten rules that slaves should only be
acquired as prisoners of war or criminals. This day would change Equiano s life forever and begin his

In England, Equiano had a very kind master who was also his friend. With Pascal, he journeyed to
many European ports and fought for Britain on the naval ship in the Seven Years War. In Britain, he
was hired to serve numerous different families and acquired many useful friends during this time.
Equiano recalls a pleasant and safe time there, with a growing desire to act as the British. I could now
speak English tolerably well, and I perfectly understood everything that was said. I not only felt
myself quite easy with these new countrymen, but relished their society and manners. I no longer look
upon them as spirits, but as men superior to us; and therefore I had the stronger desire to resemble
them, to imbibe their spirit, and imitate their manners. During this period, he served a woman named
Miss Guerins, who sent him to school where he gratefully learned to read and write. She was also the
one who convinced Pascal to allow Equiano to be baptized and became his Godmother.
With his recent education and much talk of freedom, or being delivered, Equiano was devastated when
he was sent off once again. With Captain James Doran, he sailed to the West Indies and upon arriving
at Montserrat, Equiano was sold to a Quaker merchant from Philadelphia named Robert King.
Although King was another kind master, upon his merchant ships, which delivered cattle and food to
the West Indies in exchange for carrying newly arrived African slaves

Symbolism In Game Of Thrones

More Than Thrones Do not pick a favorite character; that is the best advice any fan of Game of
Thrones could give. Game of Thrones is an award winning television show that first aired in 2011, and
has just completed its seventh season. The show is based on fantasy novels created by the author
George R.R. Martin, who also contributes to the show as a producer and scriptwriter. Game of
Thrones takes place mainly in the fantasy continent known as Westeros, filled with seven kingdoms
under one monarch. Some families fight for survival, others fight for the Iron Throne. Then across the
sea, on the continent of Essos, the previous heir to the throne of a usurped dynasty plan to take back
their rightful throne. Meanwhile, a supernatural and ancient army returns to Westeros in order to
destroy the living. With its profound symbolism, stunning cinematography, and complex storyline,
Game of Thrones has set the bar extremely high for television. Nearly every aspect of Game of
Thrones holds a greater meaning. Whether it be the house s sigil or the actions of the characters. For
example, one of the favorite families, the Starks, have a grey direwolf against a white background.
The wolf is the family s sigil and it seems to look like armor which represents the willingness to fight
and their determination to persevere against all adversity. The white background stands for their
readiness for the harsh winters and the attacks

Rubik s Cube Essay
Background Rubik s cube is a toy puzzle designed by Ernö Rubik during the mid 1970s. It is a cube
shaped toy consisting of smaller cube pieces, called cubies with 6 faces possessing contrasting colors.
This rather primitive looking phenomenon was exceptionally popular during the 1980s, and peaking
1980 and 1983 with around 200 million cubes sold worldwide. Even today sales continue to exceed
500,000 sales worldwide each year, subsequently earning the title the best selling toy of all time .(
How Rubik s Cube ) Seen as an object of art, the Rubik s Cube brilliance is perceived to reside in its
ability to embody and symbolize the evident contrasts in the human conditions: simplicity and
complexity, order and mayhem, bewilderment and comprehension, as Ernö remarks.(Davis)
Comparably, these traits can be observed when examining the most integral parts of the cube: its
history, design and mechanics, and mathematical applications. History Puzzle makers have been

Around 1983, however, the popularity of the cube began to die down and sales slowed drastically.
That was because the cube stayed in small scale production, but that changed when Seven Towns took

1995. Since then, sales have steadily increased to over 500,000 units a year. ( How Rubik s Cube )
Moreover, in 1980, the cube won the prestigious German Game of the Year award and similar
decoration in France, Britain, and the United States. Also, books covering the cube were
simultaneously on the New York Times best seller list. Finally, today, with more than 350 million
cubes sold and at least one billion imitations in circulation, it is the best selling toy of all time and a
true cultural icon that will forever be recognized.

and other works. Known as the first tragicomedy, The Jew of Malta by Marlowe is known for its
controversial themes and heavily influenced Shakespeare s Merchant. Marlowe s most famous
play is The Tragicall History of Doctor Faustus about a man who sells his soul to the devil for
knowledge and power and later tries to repent for his deeds but still goes to hell. Tragically, on
May 30, 1593 Marlowe was murdered by Ingram Frizer by being stabbed in the forehead.
Through Christopher Marlowe s interesting life, he has written many famous works including
Helen of Troy and left an influential legacy for writers after him.
Through the details and symbolism in the painting Helen of Troy, it shows the theme of
beauty in a diminished life. Symbolism of remarkable beauty is shown in how Helen is looking
at herself in the mirror which reflects how beautiful it says she is in Greek Mythology.

Case Study Sasktel
Sasktel Case Study
Rising healthcare costs have imposed challenges and created opportunities in various countries,
especially in those with private or socialized healthcare systems. In Canada, for example, the federal
and provincial governments are struggling to meet their responsibility of providing necessary medical
services to the citizens. This, as a result, has created various business opportunities in the country.
In the following, based on the marketing plan developed for SaskTel s LifeStat, it was concluded that
SaskTel should first focus on the niche market in Saskatchewan, the Province where the company is
based. Due to the fact that the citizens of the Province of Saskatchewan are mostly located in rural
areas where they do not have a full access to supervision of caregiver, their health conditions might
worsen quickly, which can also be costly for the Province. In order to succeed in the fast growing
competitive medical IT market, dominated mostly by big companies, SaskTel should concentrate on
its target market that will enable the company to compete in the long run.
1.Problem Statement:
LifeStat, which was developed by SaskTel, lets the chronically ill patients communicate with their
caregivers. It lets the clients report their self recorded blood pressure, ... Show more content on

Essay On Year Round School
Once a student enters the building on their first day of school they long await summer break. Yet,
districts around the nation are changing that, instead of giving a two and a half summer vacation, they
are asking students to go to school instead. This is a controversial issue because some parents agree
with the decision, while others don t. Instead of vacations and lying around at home during summer
break, students will be given more textbooks, homework and tests. Although they do attend school
throughout summer break, they do get periods of time off throughout the school year which gives
them a break. The government should apply the year round schooling method in our district because
cost is not much of an issue, it helps teachers, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is significant because the children in schools are our future generation that will help cure
diseases, land on different planets and create world peace but, they first have to start off with a great
education and year round schooling provides that. A way you can help make this mission possible is to
spread the word in your community and persuade educators that year round schooling is the best
option for students. Let the future be filled with amazing inventions created by

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Birds
In Alfred Hitchcock s The Birds, usually tame birds seem to attack people at random. These bird
attacks cause fear in the town, but could the fear be causing the attacks? Sever emotional turmoil or
desires of the characters in the movie are the cause of the bird attacks. Melanie, Mitch, and Lydia s
inner havoc is shown through the bird attacks.
The first bird attack occurs when Melanie is on the water and the seagull flies into her head. This
seagull represents Mitch s confusion about his feelings for Melanie as he watches her drop the love
birds off at his house. His confusion about his feelings is manifested in the bird attack and how him
and Melanie can hurt each other. The seagull attack is also a foreshadowing for Melanie of what is to

These love birds symbolize Melanie and Mitch s relationship. Through the film, all of the other bird
attack and cause mayhem. However, the love birds remain calm and sweet just like their love. Their
love is the only constant through the film and remains stable like the love birds. They are also the only
birds at the end of the film to follow Mitch and Melanie. This portrays how their love for each other
comes with them as they leave, but the insecurities they faced and turmoil they went through get left
behind as their relationship has evolved. The birds represent the chaos and uncertainty that our
relationships with others can cause us

Identity And Conformity In Stargirl, By Jerry Spinelli
Throughout the novel Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, several topics across the novel contribute to the
overall theme. From identity, conformity to bullying, the topics of Stargirl cover everything under the
Mica sun. Conformity is touched after everyone in Mica Area High School is described as
conformists, blending into one another. Identity is challenged by Stargirl as she breaks away from
conformity. Bullying makes its debut after the kids at MAHS reject Stargirls quirky ways. Overall, the
Stargirl novel puts a fresh take on the underlining theme most people aren t true to themselves unless
they are confident. To begin, Stargirl defies the term normal throughout the novel with her identity as
the quirky over the top person she is. She laughed when there was no joke. She a danced when there
was no music. She had no friends, but was the friendliest person in school (Page 15, Spinelli). This
quote by Spinelli shows that Stargirl is different than everyone else, not only in the way she dresses
and looks, but also in her demeanor and outlook in life. The book goes along to say that the kids at
Mica Area High School couldn t make her out. In fact, Stargirls identity and refusal to join the rest of
the school in their conformity lifestyles, is drawn out though character Hillari Kimble spreading the
rumour across the entire school that She (Stargirl) isn t real (Spinelli, Pag 7). going onto to tell Mica
Area High School her conspiracy about Stargirl being a ploy by the

Essay about The Affordable Care Act
It takes very little to disrupt the slow but steady healing progress our nation has undertaken in the
wake of the financial crisis of seven years ago. As President Barack Obama once said, by signing the
Affordable Care Act into law, everyone should have some basic security when it comes to their health
care (Stolberg, Sheryl Gay) . Something as influential as a universal health care bill is no exception to
delicate recovery the United States economy has undertaken over the past several years. As in the
Affordable Care Act s name, health care should be affordable for people of all tax brackets. While
many are concerned of the repercussions this health care bill will not only have on employment
opportunities but also higher taxes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has repeatedly stated that the cost of health
insurance is a high ranking concern for small business owners. Every year they conduct a study to see
what the top general concerns facing small business owners. In each fiscal year since 1986 the cost of
health insurance has been shown to be the top burden facing small business owners in America.
(Wade, Holly Pg 24, table 5). Another important factor to consider are business which suffer from lost
capacity due to employee illnesses or unemployment cost. Brad Plumer of the Washington Post
recently conducted a study to determine the amount of money lost due to inactivity at the workplace.
Including businesses in both the public and private sectors, Plumer estimates that over $1.8 trillion
dollars per year in wasted each year as a result of lost productivity at the workplace (Plumer, Brad).
While Mr. Plumer acknowledged the idea of lost productivity is not a clear science and can be
overvalued this is nonetheless a huge amount of money wasted each year. In order for the central idea
behind Obamacare to work as attended, people who were previously uninsured would now have write
a check for a new expense: their monthly insurance premiums. According to CNNMoney this is not
the case as, around one in five people who signed up for their new coverage plans had not paid by the

The American Dream of Home Ownership Essay
America is seen as the land of opportunity in that there are endless possibilities for an individual. In
this land of opportunity, Americans strive to obtain the ideal known as the American dream. The
American Dream is seen as the accomplishment of an ambition achieved while challenged by
adversity.1 Americans often associate this success with the ownership of a home. The home is not
simply a place of basic protection; there is a much deeper connection to the individual. Ownership of a
home grants freedom and security that establishes a sense permanency for the individual. In contrast,
renting a living space possesses a semblance of instability and dependence.2 The desire to improve
ones position in life inspires one to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many veterans returned to young families anticipating the opportunity to buy a home. The lack of
home production during the Great Depression and war created a severe housing crisis. 5
Levitt and Sons is considered one of the most successful developers who confronted the housing crisis
after World War II. Originally, Levitt and Sons was a private developer who specialized in higher
income housing. Levitt and Sons quickly realized that there was in high demand for inexpensive
homes.6 In response, they quickly began work on developments targeting the young GI s and their
families. Levitt and Sons needed to find building solutions that would suit the taste of their buyers,
would be cost efficient thus resulting in an inexpensive price, and could be produced rapidly and in
high yield. To solve this challenge Levitt and Sons designed a single level, four room home based on
the traditional American Cape Cod style.7 This simple design was modified to form four basic designs
that were to be replicated. To produce the homes as quickly as possible Levitt and Sons based their
construction strategy on the automobile assembly line of Henry Ford. Instead of moving the parts
down an assembly line, Levitt and Sons move the labor along the product line.8 This method, along
with the incorporation of off the shelf products, allowed for the rapid production of homes. The money
and time saved on production and design allowed homes to sell at a lower price. These small homes

  • 4. Endotoxin Essay Endotoxin Endotoxin are bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS), and is formed especially by lipids and sugars. It is present in the outer cell envelope of gram negative bacterias and its purpose are to maintain the cell membrane intact. The endotoxin is the principal component of the bacterial membrane. (Raetz, 2002) LPS has a structure based on three main components: Lipid A, that is the hydrophobic part, an R polysaccharide and an O polysaccharide (or O antigen). Consequently, it has both hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions, which makes possible the formation of aggregates when the endotoxin goes into the plasma. The main difference is that the first one uses microporous membranes, and those contains functional ligands attached to the internal pore surface throughout the membrane structure. The advantage of membrane adsorbers is that the biding sites are not nestles within diffusive pores, they are located alond the through pores, therefore, is possible to eliminate the diffusive pores, unlike the packed column. The membrane is made of a polymeric substrate that is chemically coupled to a functional ligand. Liu (2010) also states that the membrane that attracted most of industry interest in purification process was the quarternary amine (Q) membrane. At something about neutral to somewhat basic pH and at low conductivities, endotoxin adhere to the Q membrane, while the basic antibody molecules flow through the membrane without being bound. Unfortunately, there are some limitations in this method, as its irregular flow distributuion, non identical membrane size distribution, variable membrane thickness, the availability of appropriate scale down devices and low binding capacities. • 6. Pride And Prejudice Social Landscape Essay In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen carefully depicts the social landscape of England during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Seemingly mirroring this social landscape is the physical landscape of the English countryside. In a pivotal scene in which the novel s protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet, ventures to the home of her future husband, Austen uses the natural landscape to show how Elizabeth, born of the landed gentry class but with no financial stability, physically ascends to the location of Mr. Darcy, her love interest and a wealthy gentleman. Yet, the natural landscape is just as much tied to Elizabeth as it is to the role of society, used to characterize her as strong willed and individualistic. Thus, the thesis of this paper is, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bennet makes it [t]he business of her life [...] to get her daughters married (Pride and Prejudice 1.1 (3)). Austen uses the word business to emphasize how, more than anything, marriage is an economic institution meant to guarantee that Mrs. Bennet s daughters not die of starvation. Austen then uses the rest of the novel to track the Bennet sisters and their ability to find financial security through the ascension of social classes via marriage. This ascension is ultimately epitomized by the novel s protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet, who rises from her family s (relatively) low station to become the wife of the wealthy Mr. Darcy. The landscape of England itself seems to mirror that ascension. When Elizabeth first visits Mr. Darcy, one of the main turning points in the novel, she is forced to travel from low elevation to high elevation, foreshadowing her rise in status through marriage: [Elizabeth and the Gardiners] entered [the park leading to Pemberley] in one of its lowest points, and drove for some time through a beautiful wood, stretching over a wide extent (Pride and Prejudice 3.1 (185)). Here, Elizabeth is marked as having entered the park at one of its lowest points , signifying her family s relatively modest income, particularly in comparison to Mr. Darcy s. Garner, police use of deadly force to apprehend a fleeing felon from the scene of a residential burglary does not exceed the constitutional limits (Brody Acker, 2010). I believe that limiting the power of the police to use deadly force makes the officers job more difficult. Limiting the power makes the officers job more dangerous from the point of the suspect knowing the officer is unable to respond correctly to a situation. If an officer is unable to use the force necessary for certain situations, it not only endangers the officer s life but the lives of citizens around them. The officer s ability to assist the public may also be limited. Why would the public want to call the police who will be unable to use deadly force to assist them? Most law abiding citizens in my area have a weapon in their home and if the officer is limited as to the use of deadly force, the law abiding citizen will then take matters in their own hands. This document between the powers of Germany, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom outlined the terms and conditions under which Germany would annex a large portion of Czechoslovakia. Throughout this text, the historical context and significance of the Munich Agreement will be analyzed. With Hitler s tyrannical pleas, the leaders of Britain, France, and Italy agreed to the annexation of a large portion of Czechoslovakia out of fear of war (Munich Agreement). It is important to note that Italy was an ally of Germany. Benito Mussolini, Italy s leader at the time, was one of Hitler s greatest inspirations during his rise to power. Germany, Italy, Britain, and France all came together in Munich, Germany to hold a conference to discuss Hitler s tyrannical demands. The agreement was signed on September 29th, 1938 and it formally allowed for Germany s annexation of the Sudetenland (Munich Agreement). The agreement came at a time where Europe seemed to be ... As time on the island progressed, Ralph, the elected leader began to lose control and authority of the boys; the island caught on fire, boys were being murdered and rescue was not the main concern anymore, but the need to hunt and kill was. • 27. Truth Behind The Mirror Reflections no longer hold truth when encased by a mirror. There is darkness behind the glass that seeps into people s subconscious. As it lingers inside them, it does not let up on its firm grasp on the victim. This demonstrates how society s views can have a negative effect on an individual. Outside pressure can become an overbearing force that is placed on individuals. People should not try to capsize a stable boat when there is nothing wrong with it. People are too focused on what makes them different from society, and how that is a negative thing. However, being unique is what makes them beautiful. Comparing murky pond water and a crystal clear mirror allows people to see the distortions in themselves and how everything is not surface deep. When looking into a murky pond or a clear mirror, people perceive a distorted version of themselves. A pond drenched by pouring rain soon causes the overflowing waters to escape from the banks and loosens the rich, black soil. The next day, the cloudy pond is consumed by the disrupted mud which dims the reflection that is cast when the on looker is looking in. As the mud rises to the surface, the image people have of themselves become muddled. Mud that is now stirred in with the water will not let the sediment float back to the pond s bottom which makes it appear that the once clear water will forever remain as a diluted pond. Even the moss that is scattered on the surface limits the person s view, and capsizes on their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
