The Ever Changing Field Of Film Essay
The Ever Changing Field of Film The world of film has changed dramatically over the years and will
likely continue to change along with technological and professional developments. Like many modern
innovations, film has changed substantially over a rather short period of time, from black and white
movies to modernized color films. Still, it is impressive to think how far film has come, and looking
back into the near past affords an appreciation of the technology that no longer exists. Thus my
viewing experiences towards film have tremendously changed in recent years as I have become more
and more immersed in its world. I am not old enough to recall silent movies, but I most certainly
remember black and white movies that my parents used to watch on TV. In the 1980s, I always
wondered why some broadcasts were black and white, especially when I switched to another channel
that had color broadcasting. Personally, the only black and white TV show that I used to watch was
The Three Stooges (Ray McCarey, 1934). I enjoyed watching this show for its funny slapstick action;
however I did not enjoy watching it in black and white, as my focus was primarily on the main
characters and not the scenery or objects around them. Several years later, this sort of viewing became
a thing of the past because black and white films became less accessible in either television or movies.
Conversely, the advent of computer generated imagery, known as CGI, has changed the

Leaving The Eu Case Study
Introduction
On Thursday 23rd June, 2016, the UK held a vote on whether to leave or remain within the European
Union. The decision made as a result of the vote was to leave and subsequently the SMEs located
within the UK were left to consider what challenges and opportunities could emerge from this
monumental event that was dubbed by the media Brexit . They realised that by voting to leave the
European Union, the UK will face serious consequences which could present challenges in facilitating
localised and globalised entrepreneurship opportunities (Chalmers and Menon, 2016).
When Theresa May triggered Article 50 in March, 2017; she ruled out any hope of the government the

Whilst not being outside the EU does not mean that the UK will be excluded from the single market, it
would be within the UK s best interest to negotiate a favorable trade agreement. Exclusion will not be
a barrier to trade but rather an inconvenience, that if approached strategically could enable the UK to
broker a unilateral free trade policy that allow for speedier negotiations with other countries outside
the EU. Possible tariffs on exports to the EU could be a challenge however the upside is that there is
an opportunity to trade with other countries.
According to an government commissioned review conducted by industry chief Jürgen Maier, Brexit
could put the UK at the forefront of technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence, 3D printing,
augmented and virtual reality (Monaghan, 2017). The 246 page review contains a detailed plan of of
measures that will boost UK growth and productivity through the manufacturing sector which will
increase exports and earning potential, ushering in the 4th industrial revolution worth over £455bn
over the next decade (Monaghan, 2017).
Human Resources Brexit could alter the dynamics of the relationship with the rest of the world as the
EU is one of the world s largest markets comprising of £11 billion worth of trade stemming from its
advanced technologies and highly skilled educated workforce (Baldwin and Lopez Gonzalez, 2015).

General Aviation Aircraft Value Analysis
General Aviation Aircraft Value Analysis
A value analysis of four different modes of transportation was conducted to assess which would be the
most economical by means of time and expense. Two separate trips were analyzed. The first, a
relatively shorter trip of 1200 miles round trip from Detroit Michigan to Nashville Tennessee. The
second, a longer trip of 2800 round trip miles from Detroit to Miami Florida.
Three colleagues were used as a baseline for costs for all modes of transportation. The analyzed
modes of transportation included car, train, business jet and commercial airline. Also included in the
cost analysis were paid company time, per diem, fuel, food stops, hotel and miscellaneous expenses.

Regardless of its advantages or disadvantages, it can offer an economical way to travel during shorter
trips. As outlined below, due to lengthy staff time requirements and relatively slower travel it is not
ideal for long trips.
During both the long and the short trip, three people will be sharing one vehicle. This could offer the
opportunity to share the driving duties, have work discussion, and rest. Personal experience however
shows that it can be very challenging to work (on a laptop for example) while riding in a car. Both the
trip to Nashville and Miami by car are outlined in table 1 and table 2 below. The trip expenses also
includes a necessary stay in a hotel (for each person), per diem, staff time, and the drive to the rental
car facility. The estimated total cost of driving to Nashville was $8655, while driving to Miami was
$14,844. The greatest expense was incurred during the excessive staff time and related expenses
incurred while driving.

The Marine Mammal Protection Act Essay
The Marine Mammal Protection Act
Abstract
This paper includes information a particular environmental law. Specifically, the Marine Mammal
Protection Act is discussed along with the history and background of this particular environmental
law. In addition, the reasoning behind its existence will be elaborately deliberated.
The Marine Mammal Protection Act
The Marine Mammal Protection Act was established and signed in 1972. According to Ray and Potter
(2011), this bill was passed, despite some times contentious testimony, without significant opposition
or debate by both the House of Representatives and the Senate and was signed into law on 21 October
1972 . This particular environmental act sought to protect whales, dolphins, ... Show more content on

Congress created the Marine Mammal Protection Act as a reaction to the public s concern that human
activities were threatening to extinguish certain species of marine mammals. As Dye (1993) states,
Congress enacted the MMPA to prohibit the harassing, catching and killing of marine mammals by
U.S. citizens or within the jurisdiction of the United States .
The MMPA is managed by primarily by both the US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) external and the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) external. The Marine Mammal
Commission (MMC) external was bought in also to review and amend existing policies. This group of
three members, chosen by the U.S. President, is appointed for three year terms. The FWS and NOAA
have different roles in protecting marine mammals; the first taking responsibility for sea otters,
walruses, polar bears, manatees; the latter taking responsibility for pinnipeds, including seals and sea
lions, and cetaceans such as whales and dolphins. Also, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection
Service external, part of the Department of Agriculture, is accountable for the regulations managing
marine mammals in captivity.
There have been a number of amendments to the MMPA since 1972. According to Risenhoover
(2012), these amendments have added more legislation or, in some parts, lessened the regulations . An
example is the International Dolphin Conservation Act

In The Things They Carried, the reader will learn a lot about the thoughts and emotions of the soldiers.
The author will discuss what they think and do to not look weak or scared. They carried their
reputations. They carried the soldier s greatest fear, which was the fear of blushing. Men killed, and
died, because they were too embarrassed not to (O Brien,21).The soldiers fear being seen as weak or
dishonorable by their fellow soldiers and families.
Soldiers fear the feeling of embarrassing other soldiers and their families. Most of the soldiers in this

How Technology Is Impacting Globalization
Globalization is the process by which people, businesses and countries become more connected and
interdependent. With new technology it has become so much easier to access data, from anywhere in
the world. The world has many problems that cannot be fixed without globalization and by moving
towards one global culture. The world is moving towards one global culture because different cultures
are adapting and sharing ideas of others that are gradually changing the way people in these cultures
live. The world will benefit with globalization because it will increase the interaction and relationships
between countries, and improve technology to create a stronger plan on how to protect the
environment.
Technology is impacting globalization. Transportation, cheap telephone service, email, computers and
instant capital flows made the world more interdependent. Travel, communication, and interaction
between countries has increased. This interaction between countries has moved the world towards one
global culture because it will help with improving long standing problems such as the environment.
For example, climate change has threatened the well being of citizens around the world. Food and
water shortage are just a few examples. Moving towards one global society can help eliminate some of
these problems by creating a stronger system of providing resources with food and water shortages to
vulnerable countries. Technology can help detect natural disasters sooner to bring awareness to

Interpretation of Muir s Horses Essay
Interpretation of Muir s Horses
My interpretation of Edwin Muir s poem entitled Horses is one of a past memory and the conflict and
anger brought about by this memory , a conflict between light and darkness, good and evil in the mind
of a elderly dying man, fearing death as he gazes out across a field. The memory being that of a day
from his past, where he as a child farm worker watched a team of horses ploughing the stubble back
into the field during a rainy day which gets progressively more stormy. The horses making their way
to and fro across the field leaving furrows, the setting sunlight breaking through the clouds picking out
images in the distance. Images getting darker and more vivid as the horses drew nearer. A ... Show

The poem is in the form of a four line verse with an almost constant AA BB rhyme. The line lengths
are constant but some lines do run on into the next. The rhythm of the poem begins with a slow pace,
this is suggested by the word lumbering in line 1, then the piece begins to slowly pick up the tempo at
line 13. This tempo to me then builds with each successive line until a climax is reached with line 24.
The poet then purposely puts the brakes on the tempo by using repetition of the word fade line 25,
after which the tempo is the same as at the beginning. The religious theme to this poem is made by the
use of similes and metaphors in the horses descriptions. An example being their comparison to
seraphims of gold (line 11), seraphim s of course being an order of angels. Another being the use the
word bossy (line 15), a reference perhaps to the carved wooden bosses found high in the vaulting of
Gothic Church ceilings. He sets a creepy mood to the piece by the process of alliteration using the
letter m (line 12) to lower the tempo and tone prior to the fourth verse. It is here when the tempo
begins to gain momentum, another piece of alliteration is used in the form of the expression broad
breasted (line 14), which instills the idea that these creatures are big and so should make a larger
impact to us as they overpower the sinking sun. From now on the horses are taking on more and more
almost mythological properties, glowing with mysterious fire (line 19), and

Brazilian is known for his joy, sympathy and especially for like a good party. Everything is a reason to

In some neighborhoods of the city, a group of people gathers to define the theme of the parade, the

year before Carnival happens, the samba schools already begin to work hard for the following year.
The Carnival consists of the competition of which school makes the best parade, where the jurors
among other sectors, give their notes as clothing, music, song lyrics. In the Northeast, the Carvanal is

The Failure Of Sighet Jews Essay
Describe the failure of Sighet Jews to anticipate Nazi terrorism. The Jews of Sighet were of disproving
failure to anticipate Nazi terrorism in reason of two factors: disbelief by doubt and ignorant fear
within themselves and their community of Hitler s extermination strategy. In Night, the author
introduces his life as a teenager and his relations with Moshe the Beadle, a shtibl who would joyfully
about the Kabbalah and its mysterious revelations and guide him into studying such esoteric tradition,
but then drone endlessly about his abhorrent experience of being imprisoned as a deportee.
Unfortunately, no matter how much he spoke of it, his words became dust as they left his mouth and
had blown in A calming, reassuring wind (Wiesel, 6). The people of Sighet bypassed Moshe s warning
signal simply by not taking him seriously, and Wiesel verifies this expression in page 7, presuming
how everyone refused to believe his tales and ...to listen, which led them in believing that that he
wanted their pity...was imagining things... and had gone mad . This doubt provoked the inconvenience
of Moshe s hopes to inform his people as a preliminary to an impending event. Wiesel later notes
about the ignorant temper that everyone, including himself, showed towards Hitler s upcoming

Glacier National Park, located in Northwestern Montana, is an astounding spectacle of history and
beauty. Not simply just the history of the Native Americans and European descended settlers that call
the area their home, but also the geologic history of the Earth. The region is known for the beautiful
scenery that can be seen from anywhere in the park. Large, steep mountains rise out of deep, lake
filled valleys and thick conifer forests open up into grassy, flower filled meadows. The park is also
home to a wide variety of plants and animals. Grizzly bears and mountain goats wander through the
forests and rocky cliffs while beargrass flowers light up meadows and evergreens rise high above the
valleys below. It is for this beauty and scenery that the region was designated a national park for

A Flat Tax System
Although this year s budget gap of $14.6 million was a far cry from the $104 million projected
shortfall in July 2017, the state is anticipating another tough budget year in 2018. With tax revenue in
such a precarious state, it is unwise to continue using a tax system that is failing the state economy.
The legislature should pursue prudent reform on corporate taxes to increase the possibility of
recouping lost revenue from past years, or at the very least, prevent another round of budget shortfalls
and spending cuts.
The graduated system businesses experience today has been in effect for over 30 years, and it is
unlikely that an effort to return to a flat tax system would gain political support from legislators. In
addition, a return to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lowering the corporate tax rate may incur social challenges from citizens who have an unfavorable
view of corporations; however, the alternate also offers many economic benefits while reducing risk.
After reviewing the evaluation criteria, we recommend that the Iowa Legislature lower the corporate
tax rates of each of the existing tax brackets, while still retaining the four tier tax structure.
Although both raising and lowering the tax rates have a positive impact on state productivity, we
contend that lowering the tax rate will lead to a greater economic by incentivizing companies to
conduct their business in Iowa, resulting in more economic growth and leading to more income that
can be taxed for revenue collection. In order to determine the optimal corporate income tax rate, we
return to the Edgeworth Box depicted in Figure 4.
Currently, Iowa s top tax level lies well above the upper bound of the box at 12%, while the 10% level
is equal to the maximum rate allowed within the relevant range. In order to bring both of these rates
within the relevant range of acceptable rates where a decrease in the statutory rate will lead to an
increase in state revenue, we recommend that Iowa reduce the top two tiers to 8.5% and 9.5%,
respectively. As a result, the state will see rising corporate investment, boosting productivity and
increasing the amount of taxable income

George Mason Essay
George Mason s greatest accomplishment was being the founding father of the national Bill of Rights.
He was a planter from Virginia, had grown up rich on one of the nicest and best plantations in
Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia.
He was an important member of the town s church, had all the best tutors growing up, and had been
raised to be a Virginian aristocrat (Miers 39).
Mason married well and had a large family of nine kids. He raised them in
Gunston Hall, a house which he had built himself (Miers 41).

believed in the cause for the American Revolution (he had given his son a plantation named Lexington

Slavery was another of his big issues. In this, he was slightly hypocritical.
During the debates over this topic, George Mason gave a pretty lengthy speech, letting the other
delegates know his view on the matter. He believed slavery was wrong. Mason believed it took jobs
away from the poor, and it prevented the immigration of whites. He owned slaves on his plantation,
but believed it to be a necessary evil (Solberg 280).
The slave trade was a debatable topic for him. A few northern states prohibited slavery completely and
Pennsylvania declared blacks free. Virginia and Maryland already prohibited the importation of slaves,
and Mason thought it would be a waste of law and time if South Carolina and Georgia were free to
import as many slaves as they needed or wanted. The western states were already saying they wanted
slaves for themselves and their area. Mason felt that the western land would be filled with black slaves
before anybody knew it (Solberg 280).
The Electoral College was just another example of his belief in the people being involved in the
government. He believed the people should be allowed to elect the President. He thought quot;all
power is vested in, and consequently derived from, the people, quot; (Miers 72).

Ambler Real House Scandal
Facts:
This is a dispute over zoning ordinance and whether it is infringing on the rights of property owners.
The Village of Euclid (Euclid) is a municipal corporation in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. It is 12 14
square acres, most of which is farmland and unimproved acreage. Ambler Realty Co. (Ambler) owns
68 acres of land in the westerly edge of the village. A zoning ordinance was adopted by the Village of
Euclid on November 13, 1922 which divided the village into multiple districts and specified exactly
what type of buildings were to be built in each district, specifically the use of buildings and their
height and FAR. Ambler s land spanned multiple districts of land and so Ambler s ability to construct
buildings on its land was severely limited, per the zoning ordinance. Ambler claims that this restriction

Henry VIII s Reformation Essay
Henry VIII s Reformation
In 1529 Henry VIII started to reform the Catholic Church in England, however there are different
opinions as to why he began these controversial changes. The orthodox view concurs that there was a
vast anti clerical feeling in 16th century England; the corrupt church was unpopular with the masses.
However the revisionist view claims that the reformation was actually due to politics. Henry needed a
male heir and therefore needed a divorce. The needs and wants of the masses were not taken into
consideration. In this essay I am going to look at England pre reformation and reach my own opinion
of whether or not England was actually in need of a reformation in 1529. ... Show more content on

But were the clergy really that bad, and if they were would people not have done anything about it? In
the diocese of Lincoln, which had 1,006 individual parishes, they only had 25 complaints of sexual
misconduct for the whole year. This is a low figure, which proves that the deficiencies of the clergy
have either been fiercely exaggerated or that people didn t have a problem with the incidents and
therefore didn t report them. The interesting fact is that after the reformation, the number of
complaints rose. Surely this suggests that it was the reformation that caused the anti clericalism and
not the other way round.
Many laypeople did see the clergy, as greedy and excessive, people were growing discontented with
hypocritical clergy such as Wolsey. Wolsey was 10x richer than his nearest rival even though he was
the son of a butcher; many people found this deceitful, after all when ordained he would have taken a
pledge of poverty. He would also have taken a pledge of chastity, yet he had a mistress. Despite his
great power within the church, he actually did very little for the religion. He became a symbol of
everything that was wrong with the church and we know that many influential people didn t like him,
such as Thomas Howard. However Wolsey was only one man within the church and many of

The Effects Of Journalism On Today s Media
There is no doubt that journalism has changed from what it was in the past. The new form of
journalism has its benefits, but many journalists would argue that there are major problems with today
s media, especially in its news coverage, that would negate the benefits of this new era of journalism.
The biggest problems with today s media coverage are the emotion driven bias of news articles and
the struggle to report the truth to the general public. Emotion is, and always has been, an easy tool to
exploit throughout journalism s existence and today s media coverage takes full advantage of that fact.
In the article Taking Sides in Ferguson , journalist Noah C. Rothman describes the shameful events of
the Ferguson riots that took place in August of 2014. After the shooting of an African American teen
by a local police officer, the town of Ferguson formed peaceful protests and eventually, riots. The riots
swelled into chaos resulting in destruction of both the town s infrastructure and local businesses
including [a] local QuickTrip convenience store [that] was burnt to the ground... (Rothman 19).
Reporters and journalists, instead of reporting solid facts and keeping distance from the riots, became
part of the unrest itself. (Rothman 20). Not only the reporters became emotionally invested in the riots,
but also the threat of the hostile actions of police consumed the readers of the printed news articles.
The whole situation was an act of passion instead of what it should have

The Case of American Apparel(a Clothing Manufacturer)
Two Practices in Business related to the topic from Business Magazines. The case of American
Apparel(a clothing manufacturer): Charney squarely declares : I ve had relationships, loving
relationships, that I m proud of. I think it s a First Amendment right to pursue one s affection for
another human being. And he is talking about his staff. He has admitted to having numerous love
affairs with colleagues in the past. He is even known to work at office dressed in nothing other than
underwear. This attitude in fact percolates to American Apparel s culture, is almost second nature for
most of the employees and is visible even in the decor of its stores. The stores white walls are dotted

Though not a legal requirement for any business(yet), these programs do tend to serve as an assurance
in the minds of the employers that should there be a case of sexual harassment at work, they do have a
recourse, a channel to address it. And to protect them in case a lawsuit is filed. Some reports suggest
that sexual harassment cases are increasingly on the rise. Not only this, the reports also suggest that
the harassment has reached the higher levels of management, as in the case of American Apparel.
Keeping this in mind, it becomes all the more imperative and necessary for a firm to adopt a sexual
harassment prevention policy. It is imperative that an employee is provided a safe and comfortable
environment to work in. In Sexual Harassment in the Workplace: A Primer , Barry Roberts and
Richard Mann recommend that businesses need to understand sexual harassment; communicate a
policy; enforce a policy; establish procedures; and enforce policy. In that respect, a sexual harassment
training program plays an all important role. For a policy or set of grievance procedures to be
effective, all employees, from supervisors to line workers, administrators to custodial staff, need to be
knowledgeable about the company s policy and grievance procedures. Sexual harassment training
needs to be very explicit in

Rhyme Scheme Of Sonnet
This poem is one of the many exceptional sonnets the writer, William Wordsworth has written in the
1800 s as he feels emotional and spiritual to nature. Sonnets are fourteen line poetic inventions written
mostly using the iambic parameter. This specific structure of the poem is a Petrarchan sonnet or also
known as the Italian sonnet divided into two parts known as the Octave (first eight lines of the poem)
and a Sestet (last six lines of the poem). In this poem, the octave has a rhyme scheme of ABBAABBA
and the sestet has a rhyme scheme of CDECED. This rhyme scheme with no break between the
stanzas shows a strong connection and gives of the impression that the poem is organized and has
harmony, as the speaker s main subject is nature in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nowadays these words seem old fashioned: thou beauteous , o er , walkest , liest , thee , worshipp st .
These words can also be found in the religious book of Christians called the Bible which emphasizes
the religious aspects nature has within itself. There is also a great deal of comparison between
Christians and nature displayed in the poem with the use of words such as Abraham, Nun, heaven etc.
The speaker also contrasts himself as a mere thinker to the little girl who puts no effort at all but she is
intimately linked to nature and its serenity. The poem is carried out in a respectful and serious tones
using words like holy time showing emphasis on religion and God is with thee when we know it not
also showing spirituality knowing there is a supreme being that watches over us all, the tone could
also be described as affectionate and gentle using the words Dear and emphasizing it twice to show
affection and care to this little girl and praises her natural quality.
There is also a variety of figures of speech used throughout the poem: metaphor Thou liest in
Abraham s bosom comparing how blessed the young girl is God s court. Simile the holy time is quiet
as a Nun comparing the serenity and peace of that moment is like being in the presence of Gods
worship and a sound like thunder comparing the oceanic waves

Rhetorical Analysis On Got Milk
Got Milk? We see advertisement everywhere from left right. Ads are seen on devices and while just
driving around. Advertisements are used to get people to purchase a product. Got milk was an
American campaign encouraging the consumption of cow s milk, which was created by the
advertising agency Goodby Silverstein Partners. Got milk ads have many inspirational celebrities to
model their company. Such as famous singers, dancers, athletes, actors, talk show host, and models. I

because she drinks milk. Hayden is a good role model and a public figure to teens because of her
beauty and health. If she drinks milk, then you should too. But why did the company choose Hayden
to model their ad. Hayden has been famous since she was a child and she grew up healthy. She also
supported 15 different charities such as African Wildlife foundation, stand up to cancer, save the
whales, K9 connection, etc. She is also a good advocator and she is known as a hero on TV shows and

Essay Rituals
Rituals There are rituals that we practice year after year, but forget where they came from. Sometimes
we continue to practice these rituals even after we have lost the meaning of why they are practiced. In
the story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, the practice of a yearly ritual changes the lives of all the
people who participate. Jackson s story reveals a horrific ritual in which one person is sacrificed by
being stoned to death in order to have a better crop season. Jackson uses symbolic objects to represent
the villagers closed minded beliefs and their acceptance of rituals.
The controlling symbol in the story is a black wooden box. The box symbolizes death, and it holds the
fate of one person within it. Even though, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, color is used symbolically in the usage of a blank or black spotted piece of paper. As Mr.
Graves opened the slip of paper and there was a general sigh through the crowd as he held it up and
everyone could see that it was blank (79) the sight of the blank piece of paper not only meant relief
but life. The feeling of anxiety swept the crowd as they saw who possessed the piece of paper that
marked death. Tessie had drawn the piece of paper with a black spot on it, the black spot Mr. Summers
had made the night before with the heavy pencil her husband forced the slip of paper out of her hand
(79). The mark was felt heavily on her soul for she knew the outcome of having drawn the black spot.
The stones in the story were used symbolically to represent a cold, hard heart. Although the villagers
had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they still remembered to use stones (79). This
contrasts what we have read in the bible that only he who had no sins should cast the first stone. Tessie
was an innocent bystander to a brutal ritual. While some people such as Mrs. Delacroix selected a
stone so large she had to pick it up with both hands others selected a few pebbles (79). Perhaps with
the passing of age, one feels that the larger the stone the greater the benefit. However, innocence is
seen when the children made a great pile of stones in one corner of the square they selected the

Cobain And Nirvana
Kurt Cobain and Nirvana Nirvana was a band started by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic in the early
90 s. They d released several albums before April 5, 1994, when Kurt Cobain supposedly took his own
life. Nirvana was very popular during its time, but of course, Kurt had a life before he met Krist and
before Nirvana was born. There was also a lot the band had done together before the date of April 5,
when Nirvana had to end. Kurt Cobain did a lot before he started Nirvana. As a child, Kurt Cobain
loved art and music. He showed talent in both areas. He taught himself to play piano and he played
guitar, also little league baseball. (Kurt Cobain biography.com) Also said by Rolling Stone, He came
from a musical family. . . At four, Cobain began singing and playing piano, and gravitated to the music
of bands ranging from the Beatles to the Ramones. When Kurt was fourteen, he got his first guitar and
learned to play. He dropped out of high school his senior year due to bullying, and then he started

Hydraulic Fracturing And Its Effects On The Environment
Hydraulic Fracturing
Introduction
For this assignment I have chosen to look in to a subject that is in the news media spotlight. The
subject is the process of hydraulic fracturing. In this paper, we will learn about this process by
answering the following questions. First what is hydraulic fracturing and what is the process used for.
Then we will look at the actual process of hydraulic fracturing (how it works). Next we will take a
closer look at some of the chemical use during the hydraulic fracturing process. Then we discuss the
possible environmental impacts if any caused by hydraulic fracturing? Finally, we will look some of
the measures being developed to mitigate the possible impact to the environment from hydraulic
fracturing.
What Is Hydraulic Fracturing And What Is It Used For? The term hydraulic fracturing (AKA fracking)
is a common term used in today s media in reference to the oil industry. But what is hydraulic
fracturing or fracking? hydraulic fracturing defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) as a process used to maximize the extraction of underground resources; including oil, natural
gas, geothermal energy, and even water (EPA, 2014). Simply put fluid and a mix of material and
chemicals are pumped into an already drilled well at high pressure to extract the desired resource (i.e.
natural gas) trapped within a solid such as shale rock, we will look at this process and the elements
used in it latter in this paper.

But these figures only exist in our imaginations. Batman is not really there to save us from villains

for you that when you stop and take a look, you can see that they were your heroes from the very

Hedda Gabler Naturalism Essay
Hedda Gabler and John are two plays whose characters are not the average hero. Hedda, the main
character in Hedda Gabler, comes off as a detestable woman, and in John, Jenny and Elias are equally
dysfunctional in their own ways. These characters are rich and multifaceted, a common trait in the
naturalism movement. Naturalism is a movement in theater that is essentially realism; it s goal is to
depict events and scenes as they would happen in the real world with characters who behave like real
people. It began in the late 19th century, but has prevailed through history (Styan). Naturalism shapes
the way people watch theater today, and these two plays are excellent examples of this movement. By
utilizing dialogue, stage directions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, John embodies naturalism in it s own way, by including seemingly unimportant
information in dialogue. This is another display of naturalism, because in real life people do include
information that is irrelevant to the larger story. The characters, mostly Mertis, seem to ramble on
about things that don t always connect directly to the matter at hand. But Mertis does this in a way that
is familiar; like most real old people, she tends to get lost on a tangent. This extraneous dialogue
furthers the realistic feel of the play, but also shines light on the deeper psychology of the characters in
an almost sneaky way. For example, when Mertis talks about the hospital she worked in, and how she
ran into the doctor and got the chance to tell him she was doing well for herself now, we see Mertis
rambling on just like any older person talking about the past. But this dialogue also reveals Mertis
insecurities and need for validation. She wanted the doctor to know she was doing quite well (Baker).
Dialogue like this is important because it reveals the intricacies of the characters and their complex
nature.
Stage directions play a huge part in both of these plays as well, specifically in how the stage directions
affect dialogue. Naturalism was actually controversial when it was introduced due to long pauses and
lulls in dialogue, which at the time were perceived as boring. Stage directions that call for long pauses
are very common in Hedda Gabler and

What Home Schooling Really Is
The educational thesaurus defines home schooling as provision of compulsory education in the home
as an alternative to traditional public/private schooling often motivated by parental desire to exclude
their children from the traditional school environment (ERIC [EBSCO]). Home schooling is also
defined by The Well Trained Mind website as Home schooling occurs when parents take charge of

Old Schoolhouse Magazine states that the average home schooler s SAT score is 1100, 80 points
higher than the average score for the rest of the population. This kind of increase over the population
should raise some eyebrows and have people questioning, what are home schoolers doing that my
child isn t doing or what is a home schooled child being taught that my child is not being taught. The
boost in academic excellence over the rest of the population may explain the recent statistics given by
the Census Bureau. The Census Bureau estimates that some 30 million children could eventually stay
home to learn. Why is it that the popularity of home schooling is increasing at such a rapid rate? What
are the key benefits of home schooling your child?
Pros and Cons of Home Schooling
Many parents see many benefits in home schooling their children. A variety of reasons are used when
parents decide to home school their children. Home School World Magazine outlines some of the
benefits of home schooling your child. These benefits include: safety benefits, less exposure to alcohol
and drugs, emotional benefits, Ritalin free kids, removes sexual pressure, builds family bonds, better
preparation for the real world and best environment for spiritual training (Online Article Database, P.

The Non Market Strategies From A Management Process That...
Question 1 Baron (1995) states the following: Nonmarket strategies result from a management process
that incorporates knowledge of the market and nonmarket environments, information about specific
issues, and conceptual frameworks that guide strategy formulation and implementation. Non market
strategies reflects the need for measures other than quantitative. By applying quant models only,
important facts are neglected, such as the government, interest groups, flow of information and issues.
These factors however play an important role. For example, trade organizations have a great impact on
markets, even though they do not steer their activities in the market. They do this through lobbyism.
The non market strategies address the non quantitative factors of expanding in new markets and form
together with quantitative analysis the strategies (Baron, 1995). Globalization stresses the needs for
non market strategies. This mainly due to diversity: For instance, Switzerland has another working
culture than Germany, where trade unions are very powerful and can cause whole breakdowns of the
economy (e.g. strikes on public transport). A Swiss company which wants to expand to Germany has
to be well aware of labor unions and working counsels, guaranteed by law. Question 2 Genzyme, a
biotechnology start up company founded by a handful scientists wants to enter the orphane drug
market. At the same time, the US Congress passed the Orphane Drug Act, which gives first developers

Problem of Tyranny of the Majority
Problem of Tyranny of the Majority Federalist papers were a series of essays written by Alexander
Hamilton, John Jay and James Madison and were publish with the pen name Publius . They were first
written to urge the citizens of New York City to support ratification of the proposed United States
Constitution. This paper will analyze the problem of tyranny of the majority in both society and the
government by using Madison s Federalist Papers No.10 and 51. It will also discuss how the
republican government and separation of powers provide remedies. In Federalist Paper No.10,
Madison defines factions as groups of people who have a common self interest. They would be
different to the individual rights of other citizens because they were involved with their own benefits.
He states that factions are inherent to human nature and citizens are no longer living under a state of
liberty. Madison states, liberty is to faction what air is to fire , this means that with out liberty there
cannot be any factions. By destroying the liberty, which is essential to its existence, the other, by
giving to every citizen the same opinions, the same passions, and the same interests. The difference
between those who have and those who don t would always be in existence, and is in fact one of the
most common unavoidable cause of factions. Individuals will always continue to associate themselves
with those who are on the same level, as long as we have different property and economic statues.

  • 2. The Ever Changing Field Of Film Essay The Ever Changing Field of Film The world of film has changed dramatically over the years and will likely continue to change along with technological and professional developments. Like many modern innovations, film has changed substantially over a rather short period of time, from black and white movies to modernized color films. Still, it is impressive to think how far film has come, and looking back into the near past affords an appreciation of the technology that no longer exists. Thus my viewing experiences towards film have tremendously changed in recent years as I have become more and more immersed in its world. I am not old enough to recall silent movies, but I most certainly remember black and white movies that my parents used to watch on TV. In the 1980s, I always wondered why some broadcasts were black and white, especially when I switched to another channel that had color broadcasting. Personally, the only black and white TV show that I used to watch was The Three Stooges (Ray McCarey, 1934). I enjoyed watching this show for its funny slapstick action; however I did not enjoy watching it in black and white, as my focus was primarily on the main characters and not the scenery or objects around them. Several years later, this sort of viewing became a thing of the past because black and white films became less accessible in either television or movies. Conversely, the advent of computer generated imagery, known as CGI, has changed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Leaving The Eu Case Study Introduction On Thursday 23rd June, 2016, the UK held a vote on whether to leave or remain within the European Union. The decision made as a result of the vote was to leave and subsequently the SMEs located within the UK were left to consider what challenges and opportunities could emerge from this monumental event that was dubbed by the media Brexit . They realised that by voting to leave the European Union, the UK will face serious consequences which could present challenges in facilitating localised and globalised entrepreneurship opportunities (Chalmers and Menon, 2016). When Theresa May triggered Article 50 in March, 2017; she ruled out any hope of the government the deadline for Brexit. She expressed that she is determined to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whilst not being outside the EU does not mean that the UK will be excluded from the single market, it would be within the UK s best interest to negotiate a favorable trade agreement. Exclusion will not be a barrier to trade but rather an inconvenience, that if approached strategically could enable the UK to broker a unilateral free trade policy that allow for speedier negotiations with other countries outside the EU. Possible tariffs on exports to the EU could be a challenge however the upside is that there is an opportunity to trade with other countries. According to an government commissioned review conducted by industry chief Jürgen Maier, Brexit could put the UK at the forefront of technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, augmented and virtual reality (Monaghan, 2017). The 246 page review contains a detailed plan of of measures that will boost UK growth and productivity through the manufacturing sector which will increase exports and earning potential, ushering in the 4th industrial revolution worth over £455bn over the next decade (Monaghan, 2017). Human Resources Brexit could alter the dynamics of the relationship with the rest of the world as the EU is one of the world s largest markets comprising of £11 billion worth of trade stemming from its advanced technologies and highly skilled educated workforce (Baldwin and Lopez Gonzalez, 2015). During both the long and the short trip, three people will be sharing one vehicle. This could offer the opportunity to share the driving duties, have work discussion, and rest. Personal experience however shows that it can be very challenging to work (on a laptop for example) while riding in a car. Both the trip to Nashville and Miami by car are outlined in table 1 and table 2 below. The trip expenses also includes a necessary stay in a hotel (for each person), per diem, staff time, and the drive to the rental car facility. The estimated total cost of driving to Nashville was $8655, while driving to Miami was $14,844. • 10. Interpretation of Muir s Horses Essay Interpretation of Muir s Horses My interpretation of Edwin Muir s poem entitled Horses is one of a past memory and the conflict and anger brought about by this memory , a conflict between light and darkness, good and evil in the mind of a elderly dying man, fearing death as he gazes out across a field. The memory being that of a day from his past, where he as a child farm worker watched a team of horses ploughing the stubble back into the field during a rainy day which gets progressively more stormy. The horses making their way to and fro across the field leaving furrows, the setting sunlight breaking through the clouds picking out images in the distance. Images getting darker and more vivid as the horses drew nearer. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem is in the form of a four line verse with an almost constant AA BB rhyme. The line lengths are constant but some lines do run on into the next. The rhythm of the poem begins with a slow pace, this is suggested by the word lumbering in line 1, then the piece begins to slowly pick up the tempo at line 13. This tempo to me then builds with each successive line until a climax is reached with line 24. The poet then purposely puts the brakes on the tempo by using repetition of the word fade line 25, after which the tempo is the same as at the beginning. The religious theme to this poem is made by the use of similes and metaphors in the horses descriptions. An example being their comparison to seraphims of gold (line 11), seraphim s of course being an order of angels. Another being the use the word bossy (line 15), a reference perhaps to the carved wooden bosses found high in the vaulting of Gothic Church ceilings. He sets a creepy mood to the piece by the process of alliteration using the letter m (line 12) to lower the tempo and tone prior to the fourth verse. It is here when the tempo begins to gain momentum, another piece of alliteration is used in the form of the expression broad breasted (line 14), which instills the idea that these creatures are big and so should make a larger impact to us as they overpower the sinking sun. From now on the horses are taking on more and more almost mythological properties, glowing with mysterious fire (line 19), and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Flat Tax System Although this year s budget gap of $14.6 million was a far cry from the $104 million projected shortfall in July 2017, the state is anticipating another tough budget year in 2018. With tax revenue in such a precarious state, it is unwise to continue using a tax system that is failing the state economy. The legislature should pursue prudent reform on corporate taxes to increase the possibility of recouping lost revenue from past years, or at the very least, prevent another round of budget shortfalls and spending cuts. Although both raising and lowering the tax rates have a positive impact on state productivity, we contend that lowering the tax rate will lead to a greater economic by incentivizing companies to conduct their business in Iowa, resulting in more economic growth and leading to more income that can be taxed for revenue collection. In order to determine the optimal corporate income tax rate, we return to the Edgeworth Box depicted in Figure 4. In order to bring both of these rates within the relevant range of acceptable rates where a decrease in the statutory rate will lead to an increase in state revenue, we recommend that Iowa reduce the top two tiers to 8.5% and 9.5%, respectively. Henry VIII s Reformation Essay Henry VIII s Reformation In 1529 Henry VIII started to reform the Catholic Church in England, however there are different opinions as to why he began these controversial changes. The orthodox view concurs that there was a vast anti clerical feeling in 16th century England; the corrupt church was unpopular with the masses. However the revisionist view claims that the reformation was actually due to politics. Henry needed a male heir and therefore needed a divorce. In the diocese of Lincoln, which had 1,006 individual parishes, they only had 25 complaints of sexual misconduct for the whole year. The interesting fact is that after the reformation, the number of complaints rose. Surely this suggests that it was the reformation that caused the anti clericalism and not the other way round. The new form of journalism has its benefits, but many journalists would argue that there are major problems with today s media, especially in its news coverage, that would negate the benefits of this new era of journalism. The biggest problems with today s media coverage are the emotion driven bias of news articles and the struggle to report the truth to the general public. Emotion is, and always has been, an easy tool to exploit throughout journalism s existence and today s media coverage takes full advantage of that fact. Hayden is a good role model and a public figure to teens because of her beauty and health. If she drinks milk, then you should too. But why did the company choose Hayden to model their ad. Hayden has been famous since she was a child and she grew up healthy. Sometimes we continue to practice these rituals even after we have lost the meaning of why they are practiced. In the story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, the practice of a yearly ritual changes the lives of all the people who participate. Jackson s story reveals a horrific ritual in which one person is sacrificed by being stoned to death in order to have a better crop season. Jackson uses symbolic objects to represent the villagers closed minded beliefs and their acceptance of rituals. The controlling symbol in the story is a black wooden box. Again, color is used symbolically in the usage of a blank or black spotted piece of paper. As Mr. Graves opened the slip of paper and there was a general sigh through the crowd as he held it up and everyone could see that it was blank (79) the sight of the blank piece of paper not only meant relief but life. The feeling of anxiety swept the crowd as they saw who possessed the piece of paper that marked death. Tessie had drawn the piece of paper with a black spot on it, the black spot Mr. Summers had made the night before with the heavy pencil her husband forced the slip of paper out of her hand (79). The mark was felt heavily on her soul for she knew the outcome of having drawn the black spot. The stones in the story were used symbolically to represent a cold, hard heart. Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they still remembered to use stones (79). This contrasts what we have read in the bible that only he who had no sins should cast the first stone. Tessie was an innocent bystander to a brutal ritual. While some people such as Mrs. Delacroix selected a stone so large she had to pick it up with both hands others selected a few pebbles (79). Perhaps with the passing of age, one feels that the larger the stone the greater the benefit. • 36. Hedda Gabler Naturalism Essay Hedda Gabler and John are two plays whose characters are not the average hero. Hedda, the main character in Hedda Gabler, comes off as a detestable woman, and in John, Jenny and Elias are equally dysfunctional in their own ways. These characters are rich and multifaceted, a common trait in the naturalism movement. Naturalism is a movement in theater that is essentially realism; it s goal is to depict events and scenes as they would happen in the real world with characters who behave like real people. It began in the late 19th century, but has prevailed through history (Styan). Naturalism shapes the way people watch theater today, and these two plays are excellent examples of this movement. By utilizing dialogue, stage directions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, John embodies naturalism in it s own way, by including seemingly unimportant information in dialogue. This is another display of naturalism, because in real life people do include information that is irrelevant to the larger story. The characters, mostly Mertis, seem to ramble on about things that don t always connect directly to the matter at hand. But Mertis does this in a way that is familiar; like most real old people, she tends to get lost on a tangent. This extraneous dialogue furthers the realistic feel of the play, but also shines light on the deeper psychology of the characters in an almost sneaky way. For example, when Mertis talks about the hospital she worked in, and how she ran into the doctor and got the chance to tell him she was doing well for herself now, we see Mertis rambling on just like any older person talking about the past. But this dialogue also reveals Mertis insecurities and need for validation. She wanted the doctor to know she was doing quite well (Baker). Dialogue like this is important because it reveals the intricacies of the characters and their complex nature. Stage directions play a huge part in both of these plays as well, specifically in how the stage directions affect dialogue. Naturalism was actually controversial when it was introduced due to long pauses and lulls in dialogue, which at the time were perceived as boring. Stage directions that call for long pauses are very common in Hedda Gabler and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Non Market Strategies From A Management Process That... Question 1 Baron (1995) states the following: Nonmarket strategies result from a management process that incorporates knowledge of the market and nonmarket environments, information about specific issues, and conceptual frameworks that guide strategy formulation and implementation. Non market strategies reflects the need for measures other than quantitative. By applying quant models only, important facts are neglected, such as the government, interest groups, flow of information and issues. These factors however play an important role. For example, trade organizations have a great impact on markets, even though they do not steer their activities in the market. They do this through lobbyism. The non market strategies address the non quantitative factors of expanding in new markets and form together with quantitative analysis the strategies (Baron, 1995). Globalization stresses the needs for non market strategies. This mainly due to diversity: For instance, Switzerland has another working culture than Germany, where trade unions are very powerful and can cause whole breakdowns of the economy (e.g. strikes on public transport). A Swiss company which wants to expand to Germany has to be well aware of labor unions and working counsels, guaranteed by law. Problem of Tyranny of the Majority Problem of Tyranny of the Majority Federalist papers were a series of essays written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay and James Madison and were publish with the pen name Publius . They were first written to urge the citizens of New York City to support ratification of the proposed United States Constitution. This paper will analyze the problem of tyranny of the majority in both society and the government by using Madison s Federalist Papers No.10 and 51. It will also discuss how the republican government and separation of powers provide remedies. In Federalist Paper No.10, Madison defines factions as groups of people who have a common self interest. They would be different to the individual rights of other citizens because they were involved with their own benefits. He states that factions are inherent to human nature and citizens are no longer living under a state of liberty. Madison states, liberty is to faction what air is to fire , this means that with out liberty there cannot be any factions. By destroying the liberty, which is essential to its existence, the other, by giving to every citizen the same opinions, the same passions, and the same interests.
