Comparing Nineteen Eighty-Four And 1984
Imagine a world in which you are constantly being watched. False history, monitored sex, no freedom.
Obfuscating fact with falsehood becomes the standard, it is expected. Your entire life is decided for
you, and you do not even know it. You are even content with it. Cogitate about how this would be,
having no choice or self determination. This lachrymose dystopia is the reality of the citizens of
Airstrip One, a province of Oceania in George Orwell s 1949 novel Nineteen Eighty Four. This story
depicts an oppressive government that takes control of every aspect of the lives and thoughts of their
citizens. George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four teaches its readers to not let someone else decide what
everyone should do, say, and think. George Orwell s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

government of Oceania. Along with this, things like basic mathematical facts become falsehoods.
Orwell says Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else
follows (Orwell). This is an extremely powerful quote because it shows how intense the lies in this
society are. The rapacity of the government will not allow its citizens to know things such as basic
mathematical facts because it could lead them to learn more and go against the

IPEC s work to eliminate child labour is an important facet of the ILO s Decent Work Agenda. Child
labour not only prevents children from acquiring the skills and education they need for a better future,
it also perpetuates poverty and affects national economies through losses in competitiveness,
productivity and potential income. Withdrawing children from child labour, providing them with
education and assisting their families with training and employment opportunities contribute directly
to creating decent work for adults. Setting target group priorities The goal of IPEC remains the
prevention and elimination of all forms of child labour, the priority targets for immediate action are
the worst forms of child labour, which are defined in the ILO Convention on the worst forms of child
labour, 1999 (No. 182) as: All forms of slavery or practices similar to slavery, Such as the sale and

My Struggle For Independence Growing Up Of A First...
It is with great honour to share the tale of my struggle for independence growing up in a first
generation home. To begin, I shall introduce you to my family. Firstly, my parents had three children
together, all two years apart, me being the youngest. Both of my parents had high school diplomas,
however were unsuccessful in earning a well supporting, paying job. My mom worked in an office as
a clerk; although once she got pregnant she stayed at home to take care of the young children.
However, once our budget started to become tight, my mom had to start working again. Unfortunately,
my mom s old position was filled by an individual with post secondary experience. Eventually, she
obtained a position once a week as a cashier at a local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fights and arguments that my parents had would rub off on the children making life very difficult.
My parents would fight so constantly that they could no longer keep their marriage happy causing
them to file for a divorce. This was the hardest time in my life. When my parents got the divorce I
went from barely seeing my own father from working long hours to barely seeing my own mother,
who had to pick up full time work as a cashier. Eventually, my dad went to live with his parents which
resulting in me rarely seeing him. I knew I had to help out because my mother was now single, taking
care of three kids. My mom would work three jobs trying to pay for lawyer fees for the divorce, pay
bills, and take care of three young children. After seeing endless days and nights of my mom crying
over finances, I promised to her life was going to be different.
I developed a sense of determination to gain an education and pay for my own tuition. The struggle of
coming from a first generation family has definitely opened my eyes to the harsh reality of life without
post secondary experience. My ambition to help began when I was eight. The job only paid eighty
dollars a month, which I split with my brother, leaving me with only forty dollars. Eventually, when I
was fourteen, I got my first real paying job at Tim Horton s working weekends while still studying

Forced Labor And Sex Trafficking
than not people are falling more victim to labor trafficking than sex trafficking ( Major Forms of
Trafficking in Persons , 2008) There are certain major forms of trafficking in persons that make up the
biggest percentage, that being of forced labor, sex trafficking, child exploitation for commercial sex
and tourism, and forced child labor are just to name a few. Forced labor occurs when businesses take
advantage of their employees usually through cracks in law enforcement where they can exploit their
employees ( Major Forms of Trafficking in Persons , 2008). Workers in these businesses are subject to
vulnerability in forced labor because they fear unemployment and the poverty and conflict it may
bring. Among the most common abuse reported throughout labor trafficking is that these employees
are being paid less than they are usually promised when they first start ( Major Forms of Trafficking in
Persons , 2008). Often their pay is regulated and are threaten with violence if they don t conform to
their rules which may include having all their activity controlled, living on work sites and being forced
to work more hours than they are paid for. According to CCN Money, these businesses cut corners in
any way they can when it comes to paying these employees, they take out taxes, supplies, housing,
food, health care which they never provide and paperwork or immigration status fees (Sahadi,2014).

Comparisy Methods Between NBC And PBS
Approximately 57% of Americans get their daily news by watching some kind of nightly news on
their televisions, while the internet is not far behind at at 38% (Mitchell 2016). Being a nation of
conglomerate monopolies the United States has three major news stations that control a majority of
the viewership, CNN, MSNBC, and Fox Television. The big three , as they re know, compete every
day for the highest ratings by desperately pulling and keeping in as many viewers as possible, while
providing vastly different agenda backed content. Public Broadcasting Service, PBS, draws in a much
smaller crowd and with it has a significantly lower budget for stories. While companies like CNN and
FOX are able to spend tens of millions of dollars on 24/7 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These aggressive words aren t just printed on the screen but spoken by the reporter s; phrases like
desperate cries for help continue to push for an empathetic and emotional response from the viewers.
Words aren t the only way NBC tries to forcefully shift a viewer s perspective, they do it with precise
time coverage. Stories average, to a near exact second, 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds. Minute long
coverage of highly controversial topics forces viewers to be rushed through a story without thinking or
receiving more perspectives. Stories like terrorist attacks are have one of the shortest timestamps,
averaging nearly 50 seconds each. NBC s general method of news delivery is, quick, catchy, and
controversial. All their topics covered, regardless of genre, followed their strict delivery framework.
Reporters used emotionally charged words to push the theme of fear and danger throughout the
newscast. Being backed by multi billion dollar conglomerate investors like Soros, it doesn t come as a
surprise when the stories filled with fear to push for a more attentive viewer (Balan 2014). PBS is a
significantly smaller newsroom and like NBC their budget allocation is immediately noticeable.
Although not a significant as years past, the production value of PBS is quite lower than NBC s. The
studio uses a simple two dimensional green screen, the animated overlays are much less elaborate, and
the shots are much less ambitious. Unlike NBC, PBS diction is much more tame.

Summary Of Prokaryote And Eukaryote
Summary of Prokaryote or eukaryote? A unique microorganism from the deep sea (Yamaguchi et al,
2012)
In the article Prokaryote or eukaryote? A unique microorganism from the deep sea (Yamaguchi et al,
2012) the discovery of a new, single celled organism is described, that shows prokaryotic and
eukaryotic features, which could provide further evidence of the hypothesis, that eukaryotes descend
from prokaryotes.
The hypothesis for eukaryote origin states that a large, anaerobic prokaryote engulfed an aerobic
bacterium, which hasn t been digested but stabilized as an endosymbiont instead, became integrated
into host cells as mitochondria (Yamaguchi et al, 2012). Up until now there has not been many
organisms that show features of a transition

Animal Farm Figurative Language
How does George Orwell use characterisation to explore ideas in his Novella Animal Farm? George
Orwell s, Animal Farm conveys the concepts like loyalty can be rewarded, all power corrupts and fear
is more influential than love. These key features clearly express that power can devise influential
actions, which has been mentioned many times throughout the novel. The techniques like
personification, irony, foreshadowing, conflict, figurative language, point of view, symbolism and
imagery are used to display the manipulation, which support in an expressive tone. Orwell also
displays that loyalty is not always rewarded through Boxer the horse. Boxer demonstrates that he is a

it must be right. After that, he had this slogan set in his mind, Napoleon is always right he basically

Bismarck s Influence On The German Empire Essay
Section 2. Investigation
Bismarck, to many historians, was known for his ability to manipulate the Prussian government, and
alliances with other nations to achieve his goal to create the German Empire with the Prussian Kaiser
as its leader. Through his idea of Realpolitik, to do whatever deemed necessary to reach a goal,
Bismarck manipulated the different parts of the Prussian government and the Foreign policy to unite
the German States under the leadership of Prussia s Kaiser. The problem with Bismarck using
Realpolitik is that he could have used illegal methods or methods that exceeded his authority as Prime
Minister. Bismarck used methods that exceeded his given authority as Prime Minister, from 1862
1871, to a small extent. The Kaiser had given Bismarck power that exceeded that normally given to a
Prime Minister, but through the expansion of powers of Prime Minister before he entered office, many
of Bismarck s actions were found to be within his authority.
Bismarck followed his policy of Realpolitik to no ends, willing to exceed his given authority as Prime
Minister. One of the illegal actions that Bismarck executed was for the Prussian military budget. When
Bismarck first gained the title of Prime Minister, his first task was to pass the military budget that the
Kaiser requested in the 1862 budget. The Reichstag had power over making decisions over foreign,
and federal policies, laws, and the military itself. The Parliament, although not given the sole power

Alternative Methods of Resolving Legal Disputes
A legal dispute is a disagreement over the existence of a legal duty or right. Usually most legal
disputes are resolved in a court of law. However, there are alternative methods of resolving legal
disputes other than by a court. Such methods include Tribunals as well as Arbitration. There are
different Tribunals which exist to resolve a variety of disputes. Generally, a tribunal is known to be
any person or institution with the authority to judge, to pass that particular judgment, or to determine
claims or disputes. For example the industrial tribunal sits to dertermine statutory employment law
disputes such as wrongful dismissal, unfair dismissal and redundancy. However industrial tribunals
serve to resolve many more disputes than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process of arbitration is governed by the arbitration act which provides a flexible method of
resolving disputes. Advantages | Disadvantages | Cheaper | No right of appeal | Speedy, informal and
flexible | No jury for claimant | Private proceedings | Awards may be based upon justice and equity
rather than evidence | Arbitrator is an appropriately qualified expert | Unknown bias and competency
of the arbitrator | The arbitration award is final | May be highly complex |
Other alternative methods of resolving legal disputes are negotiation, mediation and conciliation.
Mediation is a way of resolving disputes between two or more parties with concrete effects. Typically
a third party assists the parties to negotiate a settlement. The term mediation broadly refers to any
instance in which a third party helps others reach agreement. The process is private and confidential,
possibly enforced by law. Participation is typically voluntary. Conciliation is a less formal form of
arbitration. This process does not require an existence of any prior agreement. Any party can request
the other party to appoint a conciliator. One conciliator is preferred but two or three are also allowed.
In case of multiple conciliators, all must act jointly. Parties may submit statements to the conciliator
describing the general nature of the dispute and the points at issue. Negotiation is the most basic
means of settling our differences. It is back and forth

tonicity on cell membrane lab report Essay
Effects of Tonicity on Cell Membrane
Abstract The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effects of tonicity on a cell membrane
using red blood cells, potato strips and three unknown solutions (A, B, C). First three slides were
prepared containing RBC s and unknown solutions A, B and C. A control slide was prepared only
using RBC s. After observing each slide under the microscope it was determined that unknown
solution A was hypertonic because the RBC appeared to have shrunk. The RBC in unknown solution
B appeared to be swollen, therefor, the tonicity of unknown solution B was hypotonic. Unknown
solution C showed no change to the RBC shape, it was suggested that unknown solution C was
isotonic. To confirm the tonicity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cells placed in a hypertonic solution will shrink as the solvent leaves the cells.
Plant cells react differently to osmosis than animal cells. When an animal cell is placed in a hypertonic
solution, water will leave the cell causing it to shrink, this is known as crenation. When a plant cell is
placed in a hypertonic solution the cell membrane will pull away from the cell wall, making the plant
flaccid, this is known as plasmolysis. When an animal cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, water will
rush in to the cell, causing it to swell and sometimes burst. A plant cell placed in a hypotonic solution
will also swell due to water rushing in, but will resist rupturing due to the rigid cell wall. Plant cells
become more rigid in a hypotonic solution.
In this activity we will be observing the effects of potato slices and red blood cells being placed in
varying molar levels of NaCl.
Methods
The materials used for the first part of the experiment comprised of the following: a microscope, 4
slides, 4 slide covers, blood samples, lancet, a sheet of paper towel, 3 test tube droppers, Solutions A,
Solutions B, and Solution C.
Blood samples from a volunteer within the group were used to conduct the experiment. The volunteer
s hands were thoroughly washed and an alcohol swab was applied to further sanitize the hands. To
gather the blood samples needed, a lancet was properly placed on the forefinger and a firm pressure
was applied, which activated the needle inside to

Memory E. B White Analysis
I believe E. B. White was successful in creating a piece about memory. The use of his descriptive
sentence structure throughout the piece transported the reader to that very lake in Maine he wrote of.
Furthermore I felt as if I was there watching it happen in front of me. He thoroughly described each
setting in such great detail that I recalled memories of my own with my father. We would go camping
and fishing on a lake in South Carolina much similar to the one E.B. White described. These trips took
place in the month of July when the heat was at its peak, mosquitoes abound, crickets and frogs sang

The Importance Of Ethnic Conflict
Moreover, it is this security dilemma that suggests the need for partition according to Kaufmann, as at
a certain point of tension opposing ethnic groups have reached a point where they no longer can live
in agreement together under a common administration (Pischedda 104). Regardless of typical ethnic
conflict remedies such as power sharing, federalism, consociationalism, or state building (Tir 270).
These security dilemmas will persist as these groups will constantly be in fear of the other(s) and
attempt to protect themselves and the interests of the group (Tir 270). Therefore, as each group
continues to protect itself, it only furthers the security dilemma and proceeds to create a spiral of
suspicion and mutual anxiousness (Tir 270). Thus, if these groups cannot coexist, they must be
divided as that is the only measure to ensure the population s safety (Tir 270). This train of thought is
categorized as the last resort argument by partitionists, suggesting that partition needs to be
implemented to avoid the worst possible outcomes (O Leary 2). Additionally, there exists the
historicist argument, which states that partition is inevitable as ethnic communities once engaged in a
conflict will not be able to find a resolution (O Leary 2). History illustrates for us that societal
segregation, in employment, education and residential demographics establish the base for ethnic
conflict (O Leary 2). As well, there is the cost benefit argument, which argues that partition

Albert Camus creates a series of characters in The Stranger whose personality traits and motivations
mirror those that are overlooked by the average man. Camus develops various characters and

Raymond with selfish like characteristics for using Meursault for his own benefit and not returning the
favor to Meursault.
Camus employs a change in routine, Meursault having food with other people, which reveals the
unexpected cause for him becoming involved and encountering bad situations. Meursault mentions
that I ate at the restaurant, at Céleste s, as usual (Camus, 3), which displays his every day routine. The
principal factor of his everyday routine which involves food, usually took place at Céleste s.
Meursault in the textual quote displays a shift in his food routine when mentioning, I ve [Raymond]
got some blood sausage and some wine at my place. How about joining me (28)? Raymond s
invitation leads up to him becoming involved in a faulty situation. Meursault mentions the situation
when saying, He d thought of asking me to write it for him. Since I didn t say anything, he asked if I d
mind doing it right then and I said no (32). Through the excuse of just having dinner with Raymond, it
results in Meursault writing a letter to Raymond s ex girlfriend. Later the letter causes a quarrel which
results in Meursault becoming a witness as well. Another instance of a change from Céleste s
restaurant is when Meursault consumes coffee at

Levinson Mid-Life
Fist coming into Human Development class my understanding of a mid life crisis, was when a middle
aged person splurges and buys a new sports car, or such like outrageous items. Or when a husband and
wife split up for a year and they do not even really know why. Maybe even when someone seems not
quite themselves or just crazy, and in the back of your mind you re saying they need to see a doctor or
take their medicine as prescribed. In our text and from other sources it explains mid life crisis in
several theories but the one that I mostly agree with is Levinson s. (CITE) Levinson says, That each
person must confront a constellation of difficult tasks at mid life: accepting one s own morality,
recognizing new physical limitations and health

Essay On Hostile Media Bias
People who perceive media bias will factor in the news source when they attempt to formulate
opinions of ideological bias in the news content. This idea is called the hostile media phenomenon or
hostile media effect. In a groundbreaking study in 1985, researchers, Vallone, Ross, and Lepper,
postulated that when there is a controversial issue, a partisan is more likely to perceive bias against
their viewpoint, even if the information is coming from an objective news source. The causes effects
of the hostile media are far ranging and several researchers have come to different conclusions about
them. Researchers like Kevin Coe, David Tewksbury, Bradley J. Bond, Kristin L. Drogos, Robert W.
Porter, Ashley Yahn, and Yuanyuan Zhang in their 2008 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The writers argue that the phenomenon appears to involve two separate mechanisms. They say, First,
partisans evaluated the fairness of the media s sample of facts and arguments differently: in light of
their own divergent views about the objective merits of each side s case and their corresponding views
about the nature of unbiased coverage (Vallone et al., 1985). Their second finding was that partisans
reported different perceptions and recollections about the program content itself; that is, each group
reported more negative references to their side than positive ones, and each predicted that the
coverage would sway nonpartisans in a hostile direction (Vallone et al., 1985). The researchers had the
viewers complete a questionnaire about the fairness and objectivity of the news programs after the
videotape was shown. They were asked questions about the standards applied to Israel in relation to
the standards applied to its adversaries, the amount of attention focused on Israel s role in the
massacre, the strength with which the positive case for and the negative case against Israel was
presented, and the apparent personal views of the editors responsible for the programs (Vallone et al.,
1985). The results of the study were scored from 1 9, 1 being biased against Israel and 9 being biased
in favor Israel. In every category, pro Israeli and pro Arab respondents had opposing viewpoints and
were always on the opposite sides of

Lily Bart s Role In The House Of Mirth
Cristiana Cannizzaro
Professor Brownmiller
WS 271
February 9, 2015
The Role of Money for Lily Bart in The House of Mirth Money can take over a person s life, because
without money one cannot buy what he or she desires in order to be successful and wealthy in society.
In The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, it is no surprise that much of Lily Bart s life revolves
around money because of the late 19th century materialistic values that the upper class society exhibits
in the novel. In this environment, a person s values were based on money. With the high expectations
of luxury that the social aristocrats put upon Lily, it forces her to have a never ending battle with
herself and society. She cannot win this battle because of her own economic ... Show more content on

Lily Bart, an unmarried twenty nine year old woman, is brought upon her beauty and charm to find a
wealthy man that will take care of her. Ironically, Lily does not actually know the real value of money.
She learns how to value money from her mother. She (Lily) had been brought up in the faith that,
whatever it cost, one must have a good cook, and be what Mrs. Bart called decently dressed (Wharton,
53). Her perception of what is right and wrong is shaped by her mother, who limits Lily to think freely
for herself when growing up. When Lily s father announces that he is in a financial burden, the exact
words Lily s mother bursts out of her mouth were a command for Lily to close the door so that the
servants would not start to question their wealth. Money provides one to have a better appearance, so
both Lily and her mother are preoccupied with keeping up with the image that they are wealthy,
despite that they are actually poor. With no real awareness of how to manage money but a definite
feeling of how much authority that comes with it, Lily desperately desires to have a great amount of
wealth for herself. For instance, Lily wants to buy flowers that cost twelve dollars, but does not see
that this is an absurd amount of money to spend on flowers when her family is in need of money. For
Lily to be economically stable, Lily must search for a husband who has enough money to provide her
with the life of the upper

Comparison Of Abraham Ibn Ezra And Rashi
Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra was born in Toledo in around 1092. He spent the early part of his life in
Cordoba, but he ultimately left his home and spent the remainder of his years wandering throughout
Europe. He was an extremely intelligent man, and he excelled in poetry, philosophy, math, and
astronomy, in addition to many other subjects. Rabbi Shlomo ben Isaac, otherwise known as Rashi,
was born in 1040 and died in 1105. He worked as a vintner in Northern France. (Satlow, p. 213 214).
Ibn Ezra and Rashi have many similarities and differences that mainly result from their cultural
settings. These can be seen through their opinions of the milk and meat law, and also through their
commentaries on the end of Deuteronomy. The phrase you shall not ... Show more content on

The end of Deuteronomy states And Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there, in the land of Moab,
by the mouth of the lord. And he buried him in the valley, in the land of Moab, opposite Beth Pe or.
And no person knows the place of his burial, unto this day (Deuteronomy 34: 5 8). A similarity
between the two rabbis is instantly apparent because they both turn to the same text, Deuteronomy,
and attempt to interpret it. It is believed that Moses wrote down everything for God in the bible, but
this idea does not truly make sense. How could Moses be writing about the events that surrounded his
own death? Neither rabbi outright states that the text is wrong. Instead, both Rashi and Ibn Ezra
attempt to explain this complex idea, just in different ways. Ibn Ezra says And if you understand, then
you will recognize the truth. And he who understands will keep silent (Friedman, p. 19). This quote
demonstrates that Ibn Ezra realized that it did not logically make sense that Moses could have written
this specific part of Deuteronomy, but he chose to ignore it instead of trying to come up with an
explanation. Rashi s thoughts on Deuteronomy 34 differed from Ibn Ezra s. Rashi believed that Moses
did actually write the text because God instructed him to, but when he realized what he was writing
tears formed in his eyes. (Rosenblum Personal

Essay Comparing Romeo And Juliet Capulet
Juliet Capulet, the heroine of Romeo and Juliet, and Yukiko Amagi, a playable character from the
Persona 4 series, are two very different characters who could not be in a more indistinguishable
situation. The two individuals grew up very similarly, have comparable personalities, and learn to live
for themselves. In a like manner, both characters commence to realize that they must live and make
decisions for themselves. In a similar fashion, Juliet and Yukiko s personalities have a strong
resemblance to each other leading to their feelings and actions to correspond to one anothers . By the
same token, the young girls were both raised in a rich family with a prestigious background. Both
Juliet and Yukiko families love them unconditionally. Both families would definitely not support their
daughter s decision, but instead of disowning their children would still love them. Therefore, instead
of saying and acting equivalent to You betrayed us! I think they would try to change their decisions.
Yukiko and Juliet are polite, care about their family, and are generally good people. Another trait that
the two young women have in common is that they both have the idea stuck in their head that they
need someone else to be happy, and the two girls thinking that they need someone else is part of the

Full Metal Jacket And A Clockwork Orange Essay
A war film like Full Metal Jacket, does not aim to glorify war, but to show the distortion of morality in
it, the romanticizing of violence to the point of blurring the lines between profane and holy. With the
analysis of the film s plot, the ideas it chooses to enforce, the visual, and narrative techniques he used,
one gets the impression that Kubrick, focuses on the image of a man being and becoming a killer
machine. This again is a repeated trope that is a main narrative point in A Clockwork Orange. In both
stories a man is being re constructed by the establishment with the purpose of good for the society.
While a notable parallel between both films, in Full Metal Jacket this trope is reversed. In A
Clockwork Orange one man is re programmed to not be able to do evil or harm in a society engulfed
by chaos, while in Full Metal Jacket, multiple people are going through the opposite conditioning. In
the training, the future marines are programmed to aspire to be a killing machine, to love their weapon
as if it is their companion and to consider killing as a holy act. An example of that is Sgt. Hartman s
approach and degradation of religious motives. Lines like God ... Show more content on

to something necessary, pleasurable and even holy. As the soldiers are all looking at the dying girl,

The Vietnam War And Its Effects On America
Riding on the democratic stallion of equality with triumphant fervor from World War II, the United
States of America prioritized the containment of communism as its foreign policy outlined by the
Truman Doctrine in 1947. The U.S eventually found itself in the middle of rising communist nations
in the Pacific and European theaters. In an increasingly expensive and hopeless effort to prevent
communist Ho Chi Minh unifying Vietnam under the red flag of the hammer and sickle, America
officially sent troops to the Southeast Asian nation in 1965, though Congress never legitimately
declared war on Vietnam. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, the ongoing Vietnam War had
substantial repercussions on the society and economy of America that resulted in a loss in global
authority. Economically, inflation became conspicuous because of a monetary imbalance of higher
exports compared to imports. Socially, soldiers were psychologically damaged from their experiences,
while citizens actively protested against the war with success. Because of higher amounts of
government expenditure, the Vietnam War had an enduring fiscal effect on America. The funding of
the war was accumulative throughout the course of almost twenty years; increase in troops meant
increase in supply exports. The economic effects were soon felt by the American masses and
contributed to anti war feelings. Industries were focused on producing war time goods rather than
consumer goods, while anti war sentiments and

Watergate Scandal During Richard Nixon s Presidency in 1972, five people broke into the Democratic

some flags about him being involved, somehow ordering them to do this. After suspicions grew, and

Young Goodman Brown And The Lottery Short Story
The stories we read in class had a lot of distinct similarities in each story. One similarity I saw was; all
the stories introduced their settings in the beginning. Also, all the stories explain some truths about the
world we live in. For example, in The Lottery, this story shows the danger of blindly following
traditions of the community was so used to playing the lottery, that it has become a normal habit for
them not realizing the damage this lottery is causing them and the people who has to lose their life for
it. Another example, in The Lottery, is when Mrs. Delacroix turned against her good friend Tessie by
picking up the largest stone to kill her which shows that there are certain friends you may have and
when certain situations happens, their true colors will show and they may not have been a true friend
to begin with. Also, in Young Goodman Brown, along his spiritual journey he encountered people he
knew already, but then those people started to act the total opposite of what Goodman thought of his
friends. This shows that in life, not everything is what it seems, no matter how you see it. Another
example is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

would ve been a great example that the world can use when it comes to blindly following traditions
without actually thinking if the tradition made sense or not and then realizing the truth of the traditions
in the world we have now. I believe this would have made a bigger impact to the story and no more

Remains of the Day

to be a great butler. He pushes himself physically to work as hard as he can, as well as mentally to

around him in order to be an emotionless person. When one encounters them, one simply knows one is

get Stevens to show some sort of emotion, but she always fails. She even tries to anger him by telling
him that she and her acquaintance often pass the time amusing [themselves] with anecdotes about
[him] (219). He just brushes her comments off and goes about his business.
Stevens fixation with being a great butler instigates his lack of personality and social skills. He has

Dogs love to swim and Dobie s are no exception. In the hot summer months, when a walk may be
impractical, nothing beats a nice refreshing swim.
If you live near a local lake, then let your Dobie dive right in. Otherwise, you may be able to find a
veterinarian, boarding kennel, or groomer that has a large dog pool. ... Show more content on

2) Laser Pointers
Dobie s have so much energy. Sometimes it is just hard to keep up with our four legged friends. That
is what laser pointers are for.
Dogs love these things. Dobies are no exception. Our friends will chase around a laser pointer for as
long as we can point it, burning up tons of calories in the process. In the midst of all the fun, make
sure you don t accidentally point the laser in your pal s eyes as it can damage his retina.
3) Make Your Dobie Work For His Supper
Okay, that headline was a joke. I could never do such a thing to my precious pal. However, hiding
after or before meal treats around the house is a great source of entertainment (also a great way to get
a house messy if you don t strategically place the treats). More importantly, it is great exercise for
your dog and a nice change of pace.

Wal Mart prides itself on providing employment for people within communities, to continue to own
that gratification, Wal Mart will continue to offer those incentives. Unique opportunities were made by
Wal Mart s magnitude and scope because they were able to leverage its resources in new and
innovative ways that create value for shareholders and stakeholders. In determining who have a stake
in what Wal Mart does, there are many groups and individuals to examine. According to Hayden et al
(2002), Wal Mart s stakeholders can be distributed into two groups: the market and non market
stakeholders. The market stakeholders are defined as those who own shares within Wal Mart and are
interested in seeing a return on their investment (Hayden et al 2002). There expectation is the value of
their stock will rise and dividends are earned. Wal Mart s top executives have an economic stake in the
company, as well. Stocks are part of their salary and obviously, they want their stock value to rise.
(Hayden et al 2002). Employees have stock in the company and the economic stake they have is
income from Wal Mart. Employment means income. Communities where Wal Mart s stores are

Civilian Complaint Review
I am writing to acquire the possible opening job for the Civilian Complaint Review Board as an
Investigator level 1 at the agency. I have always wanted to work for an agency where I know I can
relate to and be a great addition to the team, where it offers the opportunity to not only learn and teach
your knowledge to others but also bring in all of the skills that I have learned through the course of my
studies. Understanding that the CCRB has been an important part of the community and being an
independent agency, I am able to understand the importance of always evolving the agency for the
better. Nonetheless, I understand how important it is to protect our citizens and making sure that law

Sacramental Marriage In The Catholic Church
The union between a baptized man and a baptized woman is known as a sacramental marriage in the
Catholic Church. The two people make a covenant of life and love to each other through the vows
given at the ceremony. Not all people receive the sacrament of marriage because they are called to
another vocation. This sacrament requires preparation and communication between the couple. They
have many decisions that have to be made, involving how their children will be raised. Both the man
and the woman must be open to having children, have free consent to get married and are to stay; with
this person for the rest of their life, unless an annulment is granted. A sacramental marriage, based on
the church s teachings, is important to me because of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe what the Catholic church teaches. God sent us here for a reason and a sacramental marriage
is what I feel I am being called to receive. I want to get married because of the idea of having children
has always interested me. A sacramental marriage to me, means that a woman and man will get
married and stay with each other until death. I think that it is very important to stay with the one you
marry because it shows that you are not breaking a covenant that you made. We are to live out the
Paschal Mystery through marriage. There are difficult times and happy times. The difficult times help
the couple grow closer together, along with the happy ones. Everyone has difficult times in their life
and when you are married you have someone with you through it all. This also means that I will be
married for life and not get a divorce, knowing that the Church does not acknowledge a divorce. I
agree with the church s teachings because a child needs both a mother and father to raise them fully.
Having children in the Catholic Church means that you will raise them in the faith. I believe that this
is very important because we were sent here to procreate. While teaching our children about the faith,
it can help the Catholic Church

Case Study Formula 1
Q1. What do you need in order to succeed in Formula One? The case studies emphasise that all three
racing teams focussed on different strategies. Their strategies changed within the environment and
circumstances, but what is overwhelmingly evident is that a team needs all the elements to be in
synergy and for focus to be on every aspect of the strategy. As the old adage, A team is only as strong
as its weakest link. This means that in order to be successful and to maintain success, you ve got to get
all the elements right, the overall package, the budget, the designer, the engine, the drivers, the
organisation and every aspect, from what is deemed most important to the least important, all play an
essential part of sustaining a winning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst all of these technological developments were taking place in the F1 arena, Ferrari chose to
focus on it s long term strategy which focused on the development of the V6 turbocharged engine.
This essentially meant that their drivers were now competing with cars that no longer held a
competitive advantage, in fact the cars were now considered inferior. The fundamental flaw in this
instance was that Ferrari had ignored the change in trends in the immediate environment and stuck to
what they felt worked. The strategy was to exploits their strengths but neglected the opportunities that
presented themselves. They had failed to respond to an immediate threat, thus exposing their
weaknesses and allowing themselves to retrogress to the extent that Ferrari was no longer considered a
threat. This was further compounded by the problems that were being experienced between Audetto
and Laude, Ferrari s strength was derived somewhat from the relationship between Team Boss and
Driver and with Audetto not being able to accomplish this, it impacted on the performance of the
team. In addition, the heavy reliance on the driver, meant that the team was left at the mercy of it s
driver, this was evident when Laude was unable to compete for six weeks, this allowed the
competition to close in on the lead that Ferrari had established. What

The Character Of Linda From Blood Simple, By Frances...
The character of Linda is very similar to the character of Abby from Blood Simple, who was also
portrayed by Frances McDormand. Abby is described as the woman whose weakness and
dissatisfaction set the story in motion. She saves herself against all odds, but this is more of a matter of
random good fortune than of either sangfroid or intelligence (16 17). A similar case could be made for
Linda. Linda s dissatisfaction with her body and need to reinvent herself drives the plot as she
desperately tries to acquire money to pay for her plastic surgeries. She fails to recognize that the intel
she thinks she has is completely useless, and she still selfishly pushes onwards coming up with plan
after plan, without even realizing the deadly full extent of her actions.
Alan Woolfolk comments in Deceit, Desire, and Dark Comedy: Postmodern Dead Ends in Blood
Simple that in Blood Simple, Abby s misunderstanding...[made] her an unintentional femme fatale
(Woolfolk 88). This would also make Linda the unintentional femme fatale in Burn After Reading
since she inadvertently leads to the downfall of Ted, Osbourne, Harry, and Chad. Ted and Chad are
both killed while on the mission to secure money for Linda s surgeries. Osbourne is put into a coma
because he tried to kill Ted, who was only at Osbourne s house out of his love for Linda. Harry also
goes crazy in part because of Linda s cluelessness. While Linda may indeed be clueless, her actions
drive the plot of the film and

Descriptive Essay On New Orleans
Growing up in New Orleans, when my siblings and I would visit the French quarters, I was always
amazed by the unique and inspiring monuments that we would see. One of my favorite monuments
that I love is Joan of Arc. France constructed the statue in 1972 as a gift to New Orleans. The
monument is a depiction of a teenage girl that defended New Orleans against the English during the
Hundred Years War, which was from (1337 1453). Defending New Orleans from the English wasn t
where she would stop but by in just over a year, Joan had led troops in 13 different battles and sieges,
and would captured more than 30 cites on her journey. Joan of Arc was an aggressive military
commander who was a skilled horseman and swordsman. Though out history, many

Personification In Their Eyes Were Watching God
In the excerpt Their Eyes Were Watching God , the author, Zora Neale Hurtson, uses a variety of
rhetorical devices to highlight Janies feelings toward an arrange marriage. As a result, the author

her chores under that tree for the last three days. It is impossible to physically steal from chores. The
authors purpose is to highlight that Janie has things to do, like chores, but decide, to do nothing for 3
days. She was looking, thinking under the tree for a confirmation to her wedding. In addition, Hurston

trouble hunting different animals to eat. Haida has lots warmer weather so they need to wear cooler
clothing. However, Inuit have cold weather so they need much warmer clothing to survive. Another
challenge is how they circumvent around. They can both go on foot, but usually don t. Inuit can also
go by snowmobile and kayaks. Haida can go by canoes they build themselves by hand. These are
different challenges they both face. Each of these tribes has different resources to use. The Inuit have

Impact Of Greek Culture
Greek culture, in my opinion, contributed the most to the development of other future civilizations
culture. They paved the way to what is known about Greek and their culture as of today. With the idea
of their Religion, Art, Worship of many Gods, and ancient Greek music being the focal point of it all.
Which happens to be a great deal of the reason I chose Greek culture as my answer. Majority of the
time when you discuss Greece you bring up their past or how Greece came about and the impact past
Greek culture made on their people. This is what led me to believe their past culture in relation to the
contribution, development, and the impact it had on other civilizations would be the perfect answer
due to my acquisition that it had a much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Greeks music was probably the most culturally influential aspect out of all the things the Greeks
practiced. Their music also tied in other aspects of their culture which they loved to display in their
songs, and through their art. A great example of this is THE METER OF THE ILIAD AND THE
ODYSSEY which is a song based on the clash between two Gods Odysseus and Achilleus this piece is
only a stepping stone into what Greek music developed into as future civilizations came about.
Although this was early music Greek songs like this one are the ones that paved the way and made a
huge development as to what we know as Greek music, and made a great deal of impact on how they
display their music as of now throughout their culture.
When you view Greece as of today you would see a great deal of beautiful art, statues, vase paintings
and so on... A lot of these items are pieces of the past but are still being displayed throughout other
civilizations. While reading the text you will learn the Greeks art played a huge role in their culture
including many stages of art such as Geometric Art, Orientalizing Art, Archaic Art, and Vase painting.
These stages of art were the building blocks of art throughout other civilizations some are still
practiced and some are just treasures of the past to show how Greek culture came about.
To conclude the impact Greece made on other civilizations were through their art forms,

  • 2. Comparing Nineteen Eighty-Four And 1984 Imagine a world in which you are constantly being watched. False history, monitored sex, no freedom. Obfuscating fact with falsehood becomes the standard, it is expected. Your entire life is decided for you, and you do not even know it. You are even content with it. Cogitate about how this would be, having no choice or self determination. This lachrymose dystopia is the reality of the citizens of Airstrip One, a province of Oceania in George Orwell s 1949 novel Nineteen Eighty Four. This story depicts an oppressive government that takes control of every aspect of the lives and thoughts of their citizens. Orwell says Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows (Orwell). This is an extremely powerful quote because it shows how intense the lies in this society are. The rapacity of the government will not allow its citizens to know things such as basic mathematical facts because it could lead them to learn more and go against the ... Child labour not only prevents children from acquiring the skills and education they need for a better future, it also perpetuates poverty and affects national economies through losses in competitiveness, productivity and potential income. Withdrawing children from child labour, providing them with education and assisting their families with training and employment opportunities contribute directly to creating decent work for adults. • 7. My Struggle For Independence Growing Up Of A First... It is with great honour to share the tale of my struggle for independence growing up in a first generation home. To begin, I shall introduce you to my family. Firstly, my parents had three children together, all two years apart, me being the youngest. Both of my parents had high school diplomas, however were unsuccessful in earning a well supporting, paying job. My mom worked in an office as a clerk; although once she got pregnant she stayed at home to take care of the young children. However, once our budget started to become tight, my mom had to start working again. Unfortunately, my mom s old position was filled by an individual with post secondary experience. Eventually, she obtained a position once a week as a cashier at a local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fights and arguments that my parents had would rub off on the children making life very difficult. My parents would fight so constantly that they could no longer keep their marriage happy causing them to file for a divorce. This was the hardest time in my life. When my parents got the divorce I went from barely seeing my own father from working long hours to barely seeing my own mother, who had to pick up full time work as a cashier. Eventually, my dad went to live with his parents which resulting in me rarely seeing him. I knew I had to help out because my mother was now single, taking care of three kids. My mom would work three jobs trying to pay for lawyer fees for the divorce, pay bills, and take care of three young children. After seeing endless days and nights of my mom crying over finances, I promised to her life was going to be different. I developed a sense of determination to gain an education and pay for my own tuition. The struggle of coming from a first generation family has definitely opened my eyes to the harsh reality of life without post secondary experience. My ambition to help began when I was eight. The job only paid eighty dollars a month, which I split with my brother, leaving me with only forty dollars. Forced Labor And Sex Trafficking than not people are falling more victim to labor trafficking than sex trafficking ( Major Forms of Trafficking in Persons , 2008) There are certain major forms of trafficking in persons that make up the biggest percentage, that being of forced labor, sex trafficking, child exploitation for commercial sex and tourism, and forced child labor are just to name a few. Forced labor occurs when businesses take advantage of their employees usually through cracks in law enforcement where they can exploit their employees ( Major Forms of Trafficking in Persons , 2008). Workers in these businesses are subject to vulnerability in forced labor because they fear unemployment and the poverty and conflict it may bring. Among the most common abuse reported throughout labor trafficking is that these employees are being paid less than they are usually promised when they first start ( Major Forms of Trafficking in Persons , 2008). Often their pay is regulated and are threaten with violence if they don t conform to their rules which may include having all their activity controlled, living on work sites and being forced to work more hours than they are paid for. According to CCN Money, these businesses cut corners in any way they can when it comes to paying these employees, they take out taxes, supplies, housing, food, health care which they never provide and paperwork or immigration status fees (Sahadi,2014). • 9. Comparisy Methods Between NBC And PBS Approximately 57% of Americans get their daily news by watching some kind of nightly news on their televisions, while the internet is not far behind at at 38% (Mitchell 2016). Being a nation of conglomerate monopolies the United States has three major news stations that control a majority of the viewership, CNN, MSNBC, and Fox Television. The big three , as they re know, compete every day for the highest ratings by desperately pulling and keeping in as many viewers as possible, while providing vastly different agenda backed content. Public Broadcasting Service, PBS, draws in a much smaller crowd and with it has a significantly lower budget for stories. These aggressive words aren t just printed on the screen but spoken by the reporter s; phrases like desperate cries for help continue to push for an empathetic and emotional response from the viewers. Words aren t the only way NBC tries to forcefully shift a viewer s perspective, they do it with precise time coverage. Stories average, to a near exact second, 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds. Minute long coverage of highly controversial topics forces viewers to be rushed through a story without thinking or receiving more perspectives. Stories like terrorist attacks are have one of the shortest timestamps, averaging nearly 50 seconds each. NBC s general method of news delivery is, quick, catchy, and controversial. All their topics covered, regardless of genre, followed their strict delivery framework. Reporters used emotionally charged words to push the theme of fear and danger throughout the newscast. Being backed by multi billion dollar conglomerate investors like Soros, it doesn t come as a surprise when the stories filled with fear to push for a more attentive viewer (Balan 2014). PBS is a significantly smaller newsroom and like NBC their budget allocation is immediately noticeable. Although not a significant as years past, the production value of PBS is quite lower than NBC s. The studio uses a simple two dimensional green screen, the animated overlays are much less elaborate, and the shots are much less ambitious. Unlike NBC, PBS diction is much more tame. ... • 12. Bismarck s Influence On The German Empire Essay Section 2. Investigation Bismarck, to many historians, was known for his ability to manipulate the Prussian government, and alliances with other nations to achieve his goal to create the German Empire with the Prussian Kaiser as its leader. Through his idea of Realpolitik, to do whatever deemed necessary to reach a goal, Bismarck manipulated the different parts of the Prussian government and the Foreign policy to unite the German States under the leadership of Prussia s Kaiser. The problem with Bismarck using Realpolitik is that he could have used illegal methods or methods that exceeded his authority as Prime Minister. Bismarck used methods that exceeded his given authority as Prime Minister, from 1862 1871, to a small extent. The Kaiser had given Bismarck power that exceeded that normally given to a Prime Minister, but through the expansion of powers of Prime Minister before he entered office, many of Bismarck s actions were found to be within his authority. Bismarck followed his policy of Realpolitik to no ends, willing to exceed his given authority as Prime Minister. One of the illegal actions that Bismarck executed was for the Prussian military budget. When Bismarck first gained the title of Prime Minister, his first task was to pass the military budget that the Kaiser requested in the 1862 budget. The Reichstag had power over making decisions over foreign, and federal policies, laws, and the military itself. The Parliament, although not given the sole power for ... However, there are alternative methods of resolving legal disputes other than by a court. Such methods include Tribunals as well as Arbitration. There are different Tribunals which exist to resolve a variety of disputes. Generally, a tribunal is known to be any person or institution with the authority to judge, to pass that particular judgment, or to determine claims or disputes. Mediation is a way of resolving disputes between two or more parties with concrete effects. Typically a third party assists the parties to negotiate a settlement. The term mediation broadly refers to any instance in which a third party helps others reach agreement. The process is private and confidential, possibly enforced by law. Participation is typically voluntary. Conciliation is a less formal form of arbitration. This process does not require an existence of any prior agreement. Any party can request the other party to appoint a conciliator. One conciliator is preferred but two or three are also allowed. In case of multiple conciliators, all must act jointly. Parties may submit statements to the conciliator describing the general nature of the dispute and the points at issue. Negotiation is the most basic means of settling our differences. First three slides were prepared containing RBC s and unknown solutions A, B and C. A control slide was prepared only using RBC s. After observing each slide under the microscope it was determined that unknown solution A was hypertonic because the RBC appeared to have shrunk. The RBC in unknown solution B appeared to be swollen, therefor, the tonicity of unknown solution B was hypotonic. Unknown solution C showed no change to the RBC shape, it was suggested that unknown solution C was isotonic. To confirm the tonicity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cells placed in a hypertonic solution will shrink as the solvent leaves the cells. Plant cells react differently to osmosis than animal cells. When an animal cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, water will leave the cell causing it to shrink, this is known as crenation. When a plant cell is placed in a hypertonic solution the cell membrane will pull away from the cell wall, making the plant flaccid, this is known as plasmolysis. When an animal cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, water will rush in to the cell, causing it to swell and sometimes burst. A plant cell placed in a hypotonic solution will also swell due to water rushing in, but will resist rupturing due to the rigid cell wall. Plant cells become more rigid in a hypotonic solution. In this activity we will be observing the effects of potato slices and red blood cells being placed in varying molar levels of NaCl. Methods The materials used for the first part of the experiment comprised of the following: a microscope, 4 slides, 4 slide covers, blood samples, lancet, a sheet of paper towel, 3 test tube droppers, Solutions A, Solutions B, and Solution C. Blood samples from a volunteer within the group were used to conduct the experiment. The volunteer s hands were thoroughly washed and an alcohol swab was applied to further sanitize the hands. • 19. The Importance Of Ethnic Conflict Moreover, it is this security dilemma that suggests the need for partition according to Kaufmann, as at a certain point of tension opposing ethnic groups have reached a point where they no longer can live in agreement together under a common administration (Pischedda 104). Regardless of typical ethnic conflict remedies such as power sharing, federalism, consociationalism, or state building (Tir 270). These security dilemmas will persist as these groups will constantly be in fear of the other(s) and attempt to protect themselves and the interests of the group (Tir 270). Therefore, as each group continues to protect itself, it only furthers the security dilemma and proceeds to create a spiral of suspicion and mutual anxiousness (Tir 270). Thus, if these groups cannot coexist, they must be divided as that is the only measure to ensure the population s safety (Tir 270). This train of thought is categorized as the last resort argument by partitionists, suggesting that partition needs to be implemented to avoid the worst possible outcomes (O Leary 2). Additionally, there exists the historicist argument, which states that partition is inevitable as ethnic communities once engaged in a conflict will not be able to find a resolution (O Leary 2). History illustrates for us that societal segregation, in employment, education and residential demographics establish the base for ethnic conflict (O Leary 2). Camus employs a change in routine, Meursault having food with other people, which reveals the unexpected cause for him becoming involved and encountering bad situations. • 23. Essay On Hostile Media Bias People who perceive media bias will factor in the news source when they attempt to formulate opinions of ideological bias in the news content. This idea is called the hostile media phenomenon or hostile media effect. In a groundbreaking study in 1985, researchers, Vallone, Ross, and Lepper, postulated that when there is a controversial issue, a partisan is more likely to perceive bias against their viewpoint, even if the information is coming from an objective news source. The causes effects of the hostile media are far ranging and several researchers have come to different conclusions about them. Researchers like Kevin Coe, David Tewksbury, Bradley J. Bond, Kristin L. They say, First, partisans evaluated the fairness of the media s sample of facts and arguments differently: in light of their own divergent views about the objective merits of each side s case and their corresponding views about the nature of unbiased coverage (Vallone et al., 1985). Their second finding was that partisans reported different perceptions and recollections about the program content itself; that is, each group reported more negative references to their side than positive ones, and each predicted that the coverage would sway nonpartisans in a hostile direction (Vallone et al., 1985). The researchers had the viewers complete a questionnaire about the fairness and objectivity of the news programs after the videotape was shown. They were asked questions about the standards applied to Israel in relation to the standards applied to its adversaries, the amount of attention focused on Israel s role in the massacre, the strength with which the positive case for and the negative case against Israel was presented, and the apparent personal views of the editors responsible for the programs (Vallone et al., 1985). Lily Bart s Role In The House Of Mirth Cristiana Cannizzaro Professor Brownmiller WS 271 February 9, 2015 The Role of Money for Lily Bart in The House of Mirth Money can take over a person s life, because without money one cannot buy what he or she desires in order to be successful and wealthy in society. In The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, it is no surprise that much of Lily Bart s life revolves around money because of the late 19th century materialistic values that the upper class society exhibits in the novel. In this environment, a person s values were based on money. With the high expectations of luxury that the social aristocrats put upon Lily, it forces her to have a never ending battle with herself and society. Lily Bart, an unmarried twenty nine year old woman, is brought upon her beauty and charm to find a wealthy man that will take care of her. Ironically, Lily does not actually know the real value of money. She learns how to value money from her mother. She (Lily) had been brought up in the faith that, whatever it cost, one must have a good cook, and be what Mrs. Bart called decently dressed (Wharton, 53). Her perception of what is right and wrong is shaped by her mother, who limits Lily to think freely for herself when growing up. When Lily s father announces that he is in a financial burden, the exact words Lily s mother bursts out of her mouth were a command for Lily to close the door so that the servants would not start to question their wealth. Money provides one to have a better appearance, so both Lily and her mother are preoccupied with keeping up with the image that they are wealthy, despite that they are actually poor. With no real awareness of how to manage money but a definite feeling of how much authority that comes with it, Lily desperately desires to have a great amount of wealth for herself. For instance, Lily wants to buy flowers that cost twelve dollars, but does not see that this is an absurd amount of money to spend on flowers when her family is in need of money. • 26. Comparison Of Abraham Ibn Ezra And Rashi Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra was born in Toledo in around 1092. He spent the early part of his life in Cordoba, but he ultimately left his home and spent the remainder of his years wandering throughout Europe. He was an extremely intelligent man, and he excelled in poetry, philosophy, math, and astronomy, in addition to many other subjects. Rabbi Shlomo ben Isaac, otherwise known as Rashi, was born in 1040 and died in 1105. He worked as a vintner in Northern France. (Satlow, p. 213 214). Ibn Ezra and Rashi have many similarities and differences that mainly result from their cultural settings. And no person knows the place of his burial, unto this day (Deuteronomy 34: 5 8). A similarity between the two rabbis is instantly apparent because they both turn to the same text, Deuteronomy, and attempt to interpret it. It is believed that Moses wrote down everything for God in the bible, but this idea does not truly make sense. How could Moses be writing about the events that surrounded his own death? Neither rabbi outright states that the text is wrong. Instead, both Rashi and Ibn Ezra attempt to explain this complex idea, just in different ways. Ibn Ezra says And if you understand, then you will recognize the truth. And he who understands will keep silent (Friedman, p. 19). This quote demonstrates that Ibn Ezra realized that it did not logically make sense that Moses could have written this specific part of Deuteronomy, but he chose to ignore it instead of trying to come up with an explanation. Rashi s thoughts on Deuteronomy 34 differed from Ibn Ezra s. Rashi believed that Moses did actually write the text because God instructed him to, but when he realized what he was writing tears formed in his eyes. (Rosenblum Personal ... Full Metal Jacket And A Clockwork Orange Essay A war film like Full Metal Jacket, does not aim to glorify war, but to show the distortion of morality in it, the romanticizing of violence to the point of blurring the lines between profane and holy. With the analysis of the film s plot, the ideas it chooses to enforce, the visual, and narrative techniques he used, one gets the impression that Kubrick, focuses on the image of a man being and becoming a killer machine. This again is a repeated trope that is a main narrative point in A Clockwork Orange. In both stories a man is being re constructed by the establishment with the purpose of good for the society. While a notable parallel between both films, in Full Metal Jacket this trope is reversed. In A Clockwork Orange one man is re programmed to not be able to do evil or harm in a society engulfed by chaos, while in Full Metal Jacket, multiple people are going through the opposite conditioning. The Vietnam War And Its Effects On America Riding on the democratic stallion of equality with triumphant fervor from World War II, the United States of America prioritized the containment of communism as its foreign policy outlined by the Truman Doctrine in 1947. The U.S eventually found itself in the middle of rising communist nations in the Pacific and European theaters. In an increasingly expensive and hopeless effort to prevent communist Ho Chi Minh unifying Vietnam under the red flag of the hammer and sickle, America officially sent troops to the Southeast Asian nation in 1965, though Congress never legitimately declared war on Vietnam. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, the ongoing Vietnam War had substantial repercussions on the society and economy of America that resulted in a loss in global authority. Economically, inflation became conspicuous because of a monetary imbalance of higher exports compared to imports. Socially, soldiers were psychologically damaged from their experiences, while citizens actively protested against the war with success. Because of higher amounts of government expenditure, the Vietnam War had an enduring fiscal effect on America. The funding of the war was accumulative throughout the course of almost twenty years; increase in troops meant increase in supply exports. • 38. Young Goodman Brown And The Lottery Short Story The stories we read in class had a lot of distinct similarities in each story. One similarity I saw was; all the stories introduced their settings in the beginning. Also, all the stories explain some truths about the world we live in. For example, in The Lottery, this story shows the danger of blindly following traditions of the community was so used to playing the lottery, that it has become a normal habit for them not realizing the damage this lottery is causing them and the people who has to lose their life for it. Another example, in The Lottery, is when Mrs. Delacroix turned against her good friend Tessie by picking up the largest stone to kill her which shows that there are certain friends you may have and when certain situations happens, their true colors will show and they may not have been a true friend to begin with. Also, in Young Goodman Brown, along his spiritual journey he encountered people he knew already, but then those people started to act the total opposite of what Goodman thought of his friends. This shows that in life, not everything is what it seems, no matter how you see it. Another example is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I disliked the ending because I don t think it was right to end the story with the village about to stone Tessie to death. Instead, the story should ve ended with Tessie being stoned to death, but then the village finally realized the damage and chaos the lottery has done and then have decided to stoned Mr. Summers to death for starting this monstrosity. If the story would ve ended the way I wanted it to, this would ve been a great example that the world can use when it comes to blindly following traditions without actually thinking if the tradition made sense or not and then realizing the truth of the traditions in the world we have now. I believe this would have made a bigger impact to the story and no more people have to end their lives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Essay about Remains of the Day Remains of the Day Kazuo Ishiguro s Remains of the Day is about the struggles one man, Mr. Stevens, has with relationships with his father, Miss Kenton and his employer, but the struggle he focuses on the most is to be a great butler. He pushes himself physically to work as hard as he can, as well as mentally to determine what makes a butler great. Stevens sacrifices all normal human encounters with those around him in order to be an emotionless person. When one encounters them, one simply knows one is in the presence of greatness (44). Stevens, through many trials, proves himself to be a great butler. Stevens possesses the emotional restraint which only the English race are capable of (43). When his father takes ill ... Mr. Stevens acts as though he is more interested in returning to his work when really he is dying to know. Miss Kenton does all she can to get Stevens to show some sort of emotion, but she always fails. She even tries to anger him by telling him that she and her acquaintance often pass the time amusing [themselves] with anecdotes about [him] (219). He just brushes her comments off and goes about his business. Stevens fixation with being a great butler instigates his lack of personality and social skills. He has pushed his feelings deep within himself for so many years that he does not know how to act naturally around people. When his employer, Mr. Faraday, suggests Stevens taking a road trip one day, Mr. Stevens spends the next few weeks trying to think of a way to bring up the topic again: It nevertheless made sense not to broach the topic when he was preoccupied or distracted. A refusal in such circumstances may well not reflect my employer s true feelings on the matter... I had to choose my moment wisely. (12) Stevens does not know how to deal with people naturally. He has to plan a conversation and responses to his employer so that he appears at ease, when really he is extremely nervous. Stevens, who always has his guard up, is not capable of ... • 40. Dobie Persuasive Techniques 4 Creative Ways to Exercise Your Dobie In all my years on this Earth, I can only be absolutely sure of two things. a) Dobies like to have fun. b) Their owners like to have fun. That is why I decided to come up with this list. Dobie s are adorable dogs, who happen to love exercise a lot. Nothing beats walking in the park with a Dobie, inhaling the pine scented air, enjoying the beauty of nature. That being said, there are other, less conventional, ways to exercise your dog besides walking him. I will list my favorite four right here. 1) Swimming Dogs love to swim and Dobie s are no exception. In the hot summer months, when a walk may be impractical, nothing beats a nice refreshing swim. If you live near a local lake, then let your Dobie dive right in. Otherwise, you may be able to find a veterinarian, boarding kennel, or groomer that has a large dog pool. ... In the midst of all the fun, make sure you don t accidentally point the laser in your pal s eyes as it can damage his retina. 3) Make Your Dobie Work For His Supper Okay, that headline was a joke. I could never do such a thing to my precious pal. However, hiding after or before meal treats around the house is a great source of entertainment (also a great way to get a house messy if you don t strategically place the treats). More importantly, it is great exercise for your dog and a nice change of pace. 4) Tug of

Their strategies changed within the environment and circumstances, but what is overwhelmingly evident is that a team needs all the elements to be in synergy and for focus to be on every aspect of the strategy. As the old adage, A team is only as strong as its weakest link. This means that in order to be successful and to maintain success, you ve got to get all the elements right, the overall package, the budget, the designer, the engine, the drivers, the organisation and every aspect, from what is deemed most important to the least important, all play an essential part of sustaining a winning ... Whilst all of these technological developments were taking place in the F1 arena, Ferrari chose to focus on it s long term strategy which focused on the development of the V6 turbocharged engine. This essentially meant that their drivers were now competing with cars that no longer held a competitive advantage, in fact the cars were now considered inferior. The fundamental flaw in this instance was that Ferrari had ignored the change in trends in the immediate environment and stuck to what they felt worked. The strategy was to exploits their strengths but neglected the opportunities that presented themselves. They had failed to respond to an immediate threat, thus exposing their weaknesses and allowing themselves to retrogress to the extent that Ferrari was no longer considered a threat. This was further compounded by the problems that were being experienced between Audetto and Laude, Ferrari s strength was derived somewhat from the relationship between Team Boss and Driver and with Audetto not being able to accomplish this, it impacted on the performance of the team. In addition, the heavy reliance on the driver, meant that the team was left at the mercy of it s driver, this was evident when Laude was unable to compete for six weeks, this allowed the competition to close in on the lead that Ferrari had established. • 46. The Character Of Linda From Blood Simple, By Frances... The character of Linda is very similar to the character of Abby from Blood Simple, who was also portrayed by Frances McDormand. Abby is described as the woman whose weakness and dissatisfaction set the story in motion. She saves herself against all odds, but this is more of a matter of random good fortune than of either sangfroid or intelligence (16 17). A similar case could be made for Linda. Linda s dissatisfaction with her body and need to reinvent herself drives the plot as she desperately tries to acquire money to pay for her plastic surgeries. She fails to recognize that the intel she thinks she has is completely useless, and she still selfishly pushes onwards coming up with plan after plan, without even realizing the deadly full extent of her actions. Alan Woolfolk comments in Deceit, Desire, and Dark Comedy: Postmodern Dead Ends in Blood Simple that in Blood Simple, Abby s misunderstanding...[made] her an unintentional femme fatale (Woolfolk 88). This would also make Linda the unintentional femme fatale in Burn After Reading since she inadvertently leads to the downfall of Ted, Osbourne, Harry, and Chad. Ted and Chad are both killed while on the mission to secure money for Linda s surgeries.
