Using the Eight Ethical Decision Model in a Case Study
Background: Two staff are seen carrying the old woman and throwing her onto her bed.
(YouTube) A nursing home along Braddell Road has been suspended from admitting new
patients with effect from 12 April after a patient was reported to have been mistreated. The
incident at Nightingale Nursing Home came to light after a video of a patient being mistreated
was sent to local broadcaster Mediacorp. The footage was shot by a hidden camera on a patient s
bedside. In the video, an elderly woman patient is seen sitting stark naked beside a bed with the
room ceiling fans on. She is then picked up by two hospitalstaff and thrown onto a bed, before a
staff is shown slapping her on her mouth when she wailed in pain. Reports say the patient has been
a resident there for four years and is suffering from stroke. The Ministry of Health (MOH) said it
has suspended the nursing home from admitting new patients from 12 April until further notice.
The nursing home has also disciplined the staff involved and put in place additional measures such
as ward rounds by senior staff, regular meetings with patients and their familymembers, and
management check on staff conduct and patients In a statement to Yahoo! Singapore, a MOH
spokesperson said, investigations into the video recording show significant lapses in the care
standards to the patient in question. This should not have happened. There should have been tighter
supervision of staff rendering care to vulnerable patients. Patient s dignity

Economic and Social Effects of Prohibition Essay example
Economic and Social Effects of Prohibition
There are many ways in which prohibition of alcohol consumption in the United States of
America, damaged the very economic and social aspects of American culture, that it was designed
to heal.
Prohibition did not achieve its goals. Instead, it added to the problems it was intended to solve. On
16th January 1920, one of the most common personal habits and customs of American society came
to a halt. The eighteenth amendment was implemented, making all importing, exporting,
transporting, selling and manufacturing of intoxicating liquors absolutely prohibited. This law was
created in the hope of achieving the reduction of alcohol consumption, which in turn would reduce:
crime, poverty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this new law, a new social problem arose. Seldom has law been more flagrantly
violated. Not only did Americans continue to manufacture, barter, and possess alcohol; they drank
more of it. Americans who supported prohibition, argued that if drinking alcohol was illegal, the
public would recognize and respect the law, and in turn, would give it up. During the start of
prohibition, it appeared as though it was working. But, what was really going on, was that since
the transportation and production was not allowed, bootleggers had to find ways to do it without
being caught. The price of beer rose, because it had to be transported in large barrels, which was
more difficult. As a result, people started drinking more potent hard liquor. It took less to get drunk,
therefore it was easier to transport, thus, it was cheaper. Americans would drink this potent liquor
and get drunk a lot faster, for less money. As a downfall, however, the liquor had no standards.
The rate of alcohol related deaths due to poisoning drastically increased from 1,064 in 1920, to
4,154 in 1925.
One of the biggest outcomes of prohibition was the development of organized crime.
Because liquor was no longer legally available, the public turned to gangsters who took on the
bootlegging industry and supplied them with liquor. Because the industry was so immensely
profitable, more gangs participated. As a result of the money involved in the bootlegging industry,
there was much

Reason for Commercial Breaks
Commercial Breaks Commercials have become an integral part of television programs these days.
We don t find any channel or show without being interrupted by commercials. This is most likely
because commercials are the very means of financing a show or program. Programs are even
designed keeping in mind the timebeing allotted to commercials. People at various ages seem to
have various reactions to commercials. At times kids enjoy commercial showing cartoons or any
other baby products, but showing a commercial during cartoons really annoys them. In the same
way programs that are targeting adults, serious shows that indulge the audience, interruption by a
commercial break is not welcomed at all. In fact if one picks up an ongoing soap opera, which
shows an hour long episode, each week is usually composed of fifty minutes of the show and ten to
fifteen minutes of commercials. Baywatchis a very popular television series being shown on star
world these days. Since this is its repeat telecast it is shown in the afternoon rather then in prime
time. I seem to enjoy the show to a very extent because it is composed of exotic scenes, drama
and cool stunts. Yes, Baywatch is one of my favorite shows on television. I haven t missed a
single episode even when this show was shown on prime time. I would leave all my work and sit
in front of the television at 9:00pm. I wouldn t even allow my dad to watch the prime time news of
CNN at that time. Well those old days passed and now Baywatch

Ir The Iranian Nuclear Program
The Iranian nuclear program began in the 1950 s under the Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. The
Shah applied for help to establish the program through the Atoms for Peace program. The program
was started by the United States and helped provide a nuclear research reactor and power plants for
Iran. At this time the United States and the rest of the world believed that Iranwas interested in
nuclear poweras a means to provide a power source to help modernize Iran. Seventeen years later
Iran is one of 51 nations to sign the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty. In 1979 the Iranian
government is overthrown and Shah Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini comes to power and ends the

country or company that invested more that 40 million dollars a year in Iran s oil or natural gas
industries (Gray, 1996, July 23). The Iranian government denied these allegations. The rest of the
world continued to provide technology to Iran for the purposes of a peaceful nuclear energy
program. In 2003 the European Union imposed economic sanctions on Iran due to the discovery of
enriched Uranium being found by the United Nation atomic agency. The ban lasts as long as Iran
continues to produce enriched Uranium. In November of 2004 a deal is struck between the EU
and Iran to continue to help Iran develop peaceful nuclear power as long as Iran stops production of
enriched Uranium. Between 2004 and the end of 2006 Iran completed construction of a heavy
water reactor thereby causing the United Nations to ban the import and export of materials and
technology used in uranium enrichment, reprocessing and ballistic missiles (Gootman, 2006,
December 23). In 2011 the United Nations provided credible proof that Iran was working on a
nuclear device, this evidence resulted in the strictest sanctions to date. The sanctions prevented Iran

Relays allow a small current flow circuit to control a high current circuit. 1.2.8 Devices: The
devices can be micro wave oven, bulbs, fans, air cooler, etc which are far away from the user.
The micro controller plays the intelligent part in controlling these devices. 1.3 Working: This
project is used to control the appliances present at a distance using a mobile phone. The first step
is the user should make a call to the mobile phone, which is in auto answer mode and thus call
gets connected. The user presses the digits present over the keypad of his phone for controlling
the appliances present at home or office. Whenever a button is pressed a tone is generated and it
is transferred to the mobile phone present in the home or office, which is interfaced with the
DTMF transceiver. The DTMF receiver decodes the tone generated and it activates the controller
accordingly. The controller operates the devices according to the coding set by the user. The
status of the devices whether they are ON/OFF is indicated in the LCD. CHAPTER 2 MT8888

Mr. Harris In Barn Burning
In William Faulkner s Barn Burning , there is no evidence for Abner Snopes burning Mr. Harris
barn, but the court still gives a ruling. Abner does not have to pay Mr. Harris for reparations, but
is still exiled. With Abner s reactions before and after burning Mr. Harris barn and his family s
current situation, the Justice of Peace made a fair ruling of exiling Abner. Because the amount
of damages caused by Abner, the family can not afford to pay Mr. Harris back with their limited
funds. Abner has a wiry figure, so he is not very well fed (Faulkner 182). In the family s wagon,
there are broken beds and chairs with a non working clock, which shows Abner can not afford to
buy replacements for these and other items as a farmer (183). Abner debts keep increasing, even

Abner s job before being exile only allowed him to owe more than he had, so when de Spain says
Abner never will have the money, it shows that Abner s financial problems are still the same and
will not change (185, 189). Faulkner also describes Abner as one who had in his blood and
inherent voracious prodigality with material not his own (184). Prodigality means wastefully
extravagant, so Abner tends to lust after lavish items or an lavish lifestyle that he can not obtain.
If anything, some of the better items he have are stolen (184). He can not afford his own horses;
most of them are what he calls, captured horses which are actually stolen from both Confederate
and Union armies during the Civil War (184). Abner also makes shrewd fires instead of making
bigger ones as he does with the barn. The small fires represents his low status during the war as a
thief and during the present as a farmer/ barn burner (182, 184). In

Battle Of Midway Outline
Battle of Midway World War II was a significant point in American history. The turning point in
the pacific was the Battle of Midway. As leaders, we need to be aware of what the Battle of
Midway brought to the fight in the pacific and what we learned. The Battle We are actively
preparing to greet our expected visitors with the kind of reception they deserve (Admiral
Chester W. Nimitz, Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet 29May1942). The battle of Midway
was fought through the fourth and seventh of June 1942, in the central pacific island of Midway.
The battle is considered one of the biggest decisive points of the Second World War taking place
in the Pacific. The fight was mainly between the Americans and the Japanese. The Japanese were
in the offensive takin up islands and land trough out the pacific and Asia. Japan was on the hunt to

good idea of the Japanese intentions due to excellent radio intelligence on the enemy. Such precise
and economical employment of forces could not have occurred unless he possessed the ability to
gather strategic intelligence on the enemy (Robert J. Cressman May 2009). Midway was a battle

These are specific effects of window film proposed by them; 1. One square meter of a low e

The carbon cost of Solar Gard window film is less than one kilogram per square meter. 2. Solar
Gard window film saves 1001 times more GHG emissions from entering the atmosphere than is
used and/or created during its manufacture. 3. Solar Gard window film installed between 2007

reduced carbon emissions. 2.3 Emission Control Speaking of carbon emissions, there are specific
uses of materials that combats them. In United States, housing alone takes 38 percent of the total
carbon dioxide emissions (EPA). Carbon dioxide emission is one of the well known factors that
are blamed for the global warming. The famous Kyoto Protocol was established in order to limit
this and also to achieve better results with global warming around the world. Choice of materials

Countless Times Di Prima Analysis
The historic beat generation served as a bridge to the hippies in the early 1960 s. They were
radical poets who opposed censorship. They were outspoken and placed a great deal of emphasis
on drugs, alcohol, and sex. They were known for their eccentric writing styles. Much of the poetry
in the mid 50s was in a kind of neoformalist and academic mode that was very tame and highly
intellectual and spoke to a small and elite audience (Interview). However, the beat generationspoke
to the rest of the population. They were elite, for they came from top notch universities,
nonetheless, they wrote about the forbidden topics. No censorship, everything was placed out in
the open for everyone to see. A prolific figurehead arose, Diane di Prima. She... Show more content

Those themes are culminated in chapters five and six from Memoirs of a Beatnik through the
Klebert s. The Klebert s are a dysfunctional family, the father is a bipolar drunk and his wife is
forced to put up with him. She is stuck in a loveless marriage. As for the children, there are two:
Tomi, the eldest sister, and William, oh sweet William (Memoirs of a Beatnik 36). William s
character is ironic; he is the youngest and portrayed as an innocent little boy in the eyes of his
family. However, he is unmasked by Di Prima when she sees him anally rape Tomi. He
defeminized her, taking her against her will. He caused her such agonizing pain and stripped of
her dignity. The day after the ghastly event took place, she was traumatized. Not speaking,
jumping at everything, and not being able to make eye contact with a single person. No one
should live like that, with that insecurity, with the memory, with the social stigma that comes
with it. Even if he has built altars beside [her] bed (An Exercise in Love), his deed will go
unnoticed. However, the altar could be either a blessing or a curse. Altars are made for sacrifices.
It represents all of the sacrifices that she has done to get to where she is at. Di Prima gave up
everything; she was like a salmon, swimming against the current of which is

Acquainted With The Night By Robert Frost
Robert Frost s Acquainted with the Night is about a man who frequently journeys out at night and
roams about the city alone. He is familiar with the atmosphere around him and it s apparent he
has wandered far beyond the city. Throughout the poem the speaker does not communicate with
anyone and a sense of silence and suspense pervade his walks. It is understood that the speaker is
very lonely on his walks and often finds himself hoping someone would call out to him. As the
speaker strolls through the dark city streets midst the night, it s evident that he is deeply troubled
and dismal as the poem develops a gloomy, dejected tone. The poem begins by stating I have been
one acquainted with the night which implies that the speaker is... Show more content on

As Roger Gilbert stated Such grammar dispels the kind of precise sequential focus that the
earlier poems display, instead creating a repetitive space in which constancy rather than change
is emphasized (49 74) the repetition of the phrase i have adds a routined feel to the poem and
reveals that his walks never impact his outlook and leave him with a constant state of mind. The
speakers determination to continuously proceed on his walks is demonstrated when he states I
have walked out in the rain and back again in the rain. / i have outwalked the furthest city light.
The furthest city light is a representation of the final signs of life the speaker passes before he
can reach absolute darkness physically as well as mentally. By entering blackness, the speaker
demonstrates a desire for loneliness and isolation from any form of life. Similarly, Roger Gilbert s
stated: the speaker makes a point of outwalk[ing] the furthest city light (49 74),leaving behind the
human markers and habitations that create a sense of community, and faring into a lonelier kind of
landscape. The last words of the first and third lines rhyme night and light to link them together and
emphasize the contrast of the bright city lights compared to his own darkness. The night is oftenly
associated with its own horrors and mystery, and speaker relates to the night because it corresponds
with his own sorrowful

Conforming To Society s Expectations In Billy Elliot
Billy Elliot Film Assessment
Billy Elliot shows us that it is important to remain true to yourself and to not conform to society s
expectation.
Settings How do they reinforce the main messages of the film?
Steven Daldry picks the settings in his movie carefully, in order to emphasize and reinforce the
importance of remaining true to yourself, and to remind us as an audience that it isn t always
about conforming to what society wants. Steven Daldry does this through the repeated metaphor
of a cage in his settings. The boxing hall represents tradition and society s expectations of Billy,
You re a disgrace to them gloves and to the traditions of this boxing hall. Steven Daldry contrasts
the worlds that Jackie and Billy belong to, by placing them on the different sides of the wire doors
of the boxing hall, emphasizing the differences of their worlds through the ... Show more content on

This is done further in the movie in Everington. The miner s huts in Everington represent
conformity and the grey dull colours of the miner show the bleak and uncertain future of Billy
in this town. There is sense of confinement in the town streets and the lack of any other streets
aside the main street symbolise that all the children in Everington are expected to travel on the
path to become Miners. The walls are closing in on Billy and they represent the obstacle he will
have to overcome. Steven Daldry also provides stark contrasts in order to convey the message of
the film, his use of Juxter positioning allows the audience to recognise the extent of Billy s
passion of ballet and how unusual it was for a boy to do ballet in Billy s community. The use of
Juxter positioning allows the audience to see the full extent of the impact that the character s

Once upon a time there was a pitbull named Rambo. He was a high class that was basically.
Since his owners spoiled him it usual for Rambo to receive exclusive equipment like the newest

with joy that he could explode.

Comparing Suetonius And Tacitus
The accounts of emperor Tiberius reign by both Suetonius and Tacitus have qualities that serve to
show how differing authors viewed Tiberius in various flattering and unappealing ways by their
personal reasoning and desire to preserve truth as much as possible in scope of their respective
intentions to provide scholars with treatments of him that give a through picture of his traits,
strengths and weaknesses. Overall, by examining both accounts of Tiberiusreign, readers are able to

Ultimately the tone of each account is tremendously different; Suetonius is more concerned with its
relation to history while Tacitus is intertwining his own spin on it by blaming the emperor for his
unreliability and foolishness.
Suetonius offers a wider treatment of Tiberius than Tacitus, at first him presenting him in a much
lesser hostile light and then increasing his disapproval as his account unfolds. Tacitus however
seems to be disapproving throughout with short sports of approval filtering in when Tiberius has
acted in a way beneficial to the Roman public. However, Suetonius is very similar in some ways
especially his great disapproval of Tiberius displaying him as a sexual nymphomaniac (Suetonius,
Lives of the Caesars 43.1). In Tacitus, the engaged nobility comes through with an outpouring of
condemnation against Tiberius for his atrocities as Emperor and angrily depicts a man who can
role play depending on whom he is addressing and whom is so disliked by the public that they hurl
insults at him near death.

They felt a oneness with the object of their love. They tried to breakdown the boundaries of their

characters was that the boy in Araby was passive, inactive and reflectiveabout his passion. The
focus was on himself and how he felt about his friend #8217;s sister. He was anintrovert while the
character in the second story was an extrovert being active and involved in his lovefor nature; he

When they show up, it is almost certain that death is near. After digging a little deeper, one will
find that Koontz knew what he was doing when he picked this name. It is an old Scottish term
that is now commonly referred to as the bogeyman. In an article written by Matt Staggs, this was
proven to be a fact. He goes to say that Even in Scottish folklore, they can appear as omens of
death. It is the tiny details like this that make a film stand out from others, and Sommers did an
excellent job of creating these scary little monsters. They instill a sense of fear in the audience
whenever they turn up and represent the horror that would soon take over Pico Mundo.
With all the seriousness going on, Sommers somehow manages to throw in a little bit of humor
to keep things light by introducing the dead that linger. For whatever reason, some of the dead
decide not to move on, and their spirits stay trapped with the living. It is always nice to have a
bit of comedy mixed into thriller movies, because then you start to become more relaxed. It is
easier to be caught off guard if you are enjoying yourself, and the best part of thrillers is to not

the English language is the most dominant in the world so what s the point of learning another
language? It is a common believe that the English language is the most spoken language in the
world, however it is actually not. Furthermore, learning a foreign language does more than just
being another way to talk, write, or read, learning another language brings benefits. A foreign
language is useful in many ways such as Mandarin which is the most spoken language in the world,
or being able to connect to foreign cultures, and it also useful in national security.
Many Americans believe there is no need in learning a foreign language because English is the
most dominant language and is being taught in every other country which is true, however there is
one language more dominant, Mandarin. Many believe English is the most spoken language in the
world however there are more than twice as many speakers of Mandarin Chinese as of English
which shows that the English language is not as dominant in the world as people believe (Paul).
America is slowly becoming a multilingual society mostly because of the Spanish language. The
Spanish language is spoken in the U.S by 37 million people which is double of what it was in
1990 (Paul). Americans are becoming increasingly multilingual every passing year. However, some
Americans choose not to adapt to these changes and they will be left behind

A Hurricane Research Paper
A hurricane is a tropical storm with very violent winds. It moves in a rotational circle. I have only
actually seen a hurricane on tv and in books. I know they have them in a lot of tv shows. The eye
of the hurricane is the middle part which is the most calm. The eyewall is the outside, which is the
most dangerous part of the hurricane. Windis when the air moves. The Saffir simpson scale is a
scale used to find how bad a hurricane is. A hurricane watch is a warning to everyone in the area
that wind is a high speed. A hurricane is formed over warm water. The warm water helps carry it
to land, because it is like food. Water vapor makes the clouds that can rain so it will be an actual

Diagnosis Of A Stages Of Wound Healing
The following is presented as a patient for this particular case study: an 89 year old male with a
stage III decubitus ulcer on his coccyx being transferred to a long term care facility. The physician
has asked that the patient and wife be educated about wound healing. Secondary intention healing
will be applied with negative pressure wound healingto advance the ulcer to a level of healing with
the knowledge that the diagnosis of a stage III ulcer cannot be reversed to a lesser stage. Three
factors that will be discussed to avoid will be lying on the affected area, moisture to the area, and
factors that contribute to infection. Included in the teaching will be the importance of proper
nutrition, such as increasing protein intake... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pressure ulcers are classified from stage I through IV depending on the depth and damage to the
tissue, there are also unstageable and deep tissue injuries (McCance Huether, 2014).
The patient has been identified with a stage III pressure ulcer which means there is full thickness
skin loss involving damage or necrosis of subcutaneous tissue that may extend to, but not through,
underlying fascia (McCance Huether, 2014, p 1625). The goal of treatment will be to stop the
progression to a stage IV ulcer and heal the current stage III pressure ulcer while minimizing pain
and infection.
Wound Healing
Harper, Young, and McNaught, (2014) explain the four distinct phases of wound healing that are
identified as hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and tissue remodeling. Hemostasis is the body
s response to prevent exsanguinations; thusly, the cascading response to injury causes constriction
of blood vessels but if continued, leads to tissue hypoxia and acidosis. The next stage of healing is
inflammation. This stage is a result of cells that inhibit and prevent infection and once the resulting
threat of infection is gone, inflammation will subside. Prolonged inflammation can lead to chronic
wound formation. The next stage of healing is proliferation which consists of angiogenesis,
formation of granulation tissue, collagen deposition, epitheliazation and wound retraction. It is
during this stage the extracellular matrix is laid down forming

Essay on Censoring Internet Pornography
Introduction
Pornography engages people on many levels. Some people enjoy pornography while others
believe that the world would be best without it. Some would think that a song like It s Nice to be
Nude is a cute song that is celebrating the joys of the human body. Others may think that it is
obscene and not worth listening to.
Pornography is highly subjective in respect to what it is, how it is defined, and its merits. The
intent of this paper is to discuss pornography in a historical context and how it affects librarians in
regards to its presence on the Internet.

From drawings on cave walls7 to HBOs Sex and the City the depiction of sex appears to be one of
the threads that ties the centuries together. Montgomery Hyde, while exploring the roots of Western
pornography, found that even in the Bible there is an abundance of material in the Old Testament
on the subject of pornography in its original sense of writing about prostitutes and their patrons, as
there are also references which are certainly obscene if not pornographic in the wider sense as it is
generally understood today. 8
In early Greece, representations of men and women enjoying various forms of sexual intercourse
were even depicted on the bottoms of children s drinking bowls and plates, so that they could have
something amusing to look at when they were having their meals. 9 About the time of the birth of
Christ, Ovid wrote for a Roman audience Ars Amorato ? a work if not pornographic in the strictest
sense, at least highly erotic. 10
The pornographic tradition continued in Western culture with works such as the Decameron, The
Canterbury Tales in England, and the Heptameron in France. 11 Fascination with the bawdy is also
the basis for many a literary classic. Much of Shakespeare s writing, for example, is of uninhibited
ribaldries and obscenities. 12 The depiction of the naked, sexual human form is also found
throughout the art world.13 Indeed, walk into virtually any museum, art

Life in Las Vegas Essay
Life in Las Vegas
Hell is expensive. This is my first thought as my plane lands in Las Vegas. The
Luxor hotel s glass pyramid seems dangerously close to the runway s edge, as do its chocolate and
gold sphinx and rows of shaved palms. I wonder if these rooms tremble when jets land. Behind the
Luxor are mountains kissed by dust the hue of bone; to its left lies the Strip, where color is so
bright it looks like it has died, rotted, and come back as a poisonous flower.
I have been forewarned. First, I am told flying in at noon is not the way to enter Vegas. Correct
entry is at night. This way I would have the full treatment of neon and glowing sky. As a child, I

There s a small but steady amount of suicides we call jumpers, states Sgt.
Bill Keeton of Metro Police. They re generally tourists. Some jump off an overpass, even Hoover

Las Vegas has other names for its fatalities. Snowbirds are retirees from the
Northwest who settle here or come to gamble their pension funds. Downwinders are former Utah
residents fighting cancer who lived downwind of radioactive breezes in the fifties and sixties.
Nuclear testing was only one desert valley away; like the airport now, it was so close hotel rooms

It s not necessarily gamblers, Keeton goes on. Just people who ve planned one last fling. We
used to get a lot from Los Angeles. Now it s people from all over the world. We had a young man

man from Japan shot himself in his shooting stall. It s strange.

Beowulf Christian Or Pagan Essay
Is Beowulf a Christian or Pagan Hero? Throughout the story of Beowulf, the great warrior does
many things for many reasons. The question is, does he do these things as a Christian hero with
god in mind, or does he do it as a Pagan hero, for fame and wealth. In the epic, Beowulf battles
against three noteworthy monsters that had their fights detailed in more than a passing mention
such as the many battles and wars that he fought in. These three monsters are Grendel, Grendel s
mother, who was not named, and the Dragon. Beowulf, when contrasted with these Pagan monsters,
appears Christian. However, the first question we must ask is are the monsters Pagan? To answer
this question, we will look at each monster individually and find as many... Show more content on

Grendel is described as Like a man but mightier than any man. (55) From this, we can assume
that he has a humanoid shape, walks on two legs, has two arms, a head, and a torso, but is taller,
stronger, and mightier than any normal man. He is not described in the text physically, but by
the traits and qualities that he exhibits. One such quote says that he is bearing God s hatred, (30)
and believed in his own strength, not the strength of God, whose love Grendel could not know.
(10) From these two quotes alone, we can infer that Grendel is definitely not Christian, as he does
not have faith in God s strength or help. From other quotes, we can further prove that he is Pagan
by using examples of several Pagan qualities that Grendel shows. From the quotes So set on
murder, (8) and alone, bloodthirsty, and horrible (9) we can see that he is quite bloodthirsty and
murderous, both of which are more Pagan than Christian qualities. Through this information,
Grendel exhibits the Pagan qualities of not believing in the strength of god, but instead believing in
one s own strength. He also lusts after blood, and lives for himself making him a Pagan

Evil Grendel Character Traits
Grendel: Barbaric Beast or Misconstrued Martyr We are advised early in our lifetime by our
parents, adults, preachers, and even God himself to refrain from judging others. However,
sometimes it is hard as humans to not make assumptions about others based on the brand of
clothing they wear, the amount of money they make, or how they look. The principle of always
being kind to those around us is pounded in our heads from the minute we are able to walk.
Generally, being kind and refraining from judgement is a valuable lesson. However, in the case
when appearances correspond with personality and your first impression of someone happens to
be true, it is almost impossible to believe that judging others is a sinful act. This unique situation
being that of the story of Grendel in John Gardner s novel, Grendel. In this mythical novel,
Grendel is an anti hero that believes in the principles of nihilism. He has many negative
attributes that lead me to believe that he is purely evil. These negative traits include being
psychotic, remorseless, fear indulging, and blatantly hateful. These ghastly and horrific traits
prove his heinous reputation to be true. Grendel shows obvious signs of psychological issues
which support the idea that he is a cold blooded creature. His lack of mental stability is shown
when he says, An evil idea came over me so evil it made me shiver as I smiled... (83 84). It is easy
to say that he is mentally unstable solely based on the fact that he smiled as he

Low Vs High Carbohydrate Essay
Statement of the Problem
A highly debated topic regarding athlete nutrition recently has been the effect of low vs. high
carbohydrate diets on athlete performance. While it is common for many athletes to maintain a diet
high in carbohydrates, alternative diets are quickly becoming more popular (Nogales‐Gadea et
al., 2017). Glycogen is a polysaccharide stored in animal liver and muscle cells that is easily
converted to glucose to meet metabolic energy requirements (glycogen, 2017). High muscle
glycogen levels are a major contributor to increased athlete performance, and researchers have
proven on several occasions that a high carbohydrate is key to achieving these levels (Dunford,
2006). However, the growing controversy has opened up a new debate on possible alternatives to
high carbohydrate diets with the possibility that these alternatives could provide similar levels of
nutrients to endurance athletes. My research will expand on and explore the current beliefs
surrounding these types of diets and will explore and possibly confirm the belief that a high
protein, low carbohydrate diet will be sufficient for an endurance athlete. In past studies, researchers
have examined the different effects that a high vs. low carbohydrate diet has on the performance ...

Variable Frequency Electrical System in Conventional Aircraft
Introduction: Traditionally conventional aircraft uses the secondary power system of electric,
pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical power transfer system. Increasing demand of more
advance electrical system in aircraft industries has refined the electronic power, fault control
actuator systems into a new level. To reinforce the technological progress of an aircraft electrical
system, the concept of More Electric Aircraft (MEA) has been introduced in the electrical
system of the aircraft by replacing non electrical power in the aircraft with electricity. (Corcau.
J.I., Dinca. L., 2012) As flight systems advances, new power generation is necessary which
should be able to provide high quality power generation, and solution might be Variable
Frequency electrical system. The Variable frequency is generated with the power of the perfect
sine wave and no harmonic distortion. This type of Variable Frequency is generated from a
generator with a 3 stage brushless with the variable speed and generates the frequency from 360
800Hz with an output voltage of 200V. (Fadil. R.A., Eid. A., Salam. M. A.,2013) Argument For:
Variable frequency is one of the reliable and recent innovation electrical power systems in aircraft

The Problems of Drug Addiction
Drug addiction A reasonable number of people do not understand why other people get addicted
to drugs. Some even associate drug abuse and addiction with lack of moral principles or
willpower. People subscribing to this school of thought believe that drug addicts can stop using
drugs by simply changing their behavior. They fail to realize that drug addiction is a complex
disease whose eradication calls for many things other than changing habits. Drugs basically
change the way a human brain works. Drug addiction like any other disease can be treated and
addicts helped to lead productive lives (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Drug
addiction has far reaching ramifications on individuals and society. It leads to decline in
productivity and a surge in health and crime related costs. In the United States, these costs
exceed $600 billion annually. These costs include $181 billion for illicit drugs, $193 billion for
tobacco, and $235 billion for alcohol. These costs do not bring into perspective the breadth of
destructive public health and safety implication of drug abuse and addiction like family
breakages; loss of employment; failure in school; domestic violence; and child abuse which are
not factored in (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Decision to take drugs is normally
voluntary. However, changes in brain after protracted use makes one to loose self control and
ability to resist intense impulses that urges him to take drugs. Drug s

Renaissance is a French term meaning rebirth or revival. Renaissance period in the history of
Europe starts from the beginning of 15th century to the end of 16th century. The Renaissance
manifested the transitional phase from the medieval ages to the modern era. It was a time of social
and cultural changes in Europe. It is believed to be the beginning of the modern world and hence
the new phase of the political system arrived. Along with society and culture, politics also changed.

During the period of renaissance, both these political institutions have developed from the medieval
roots, but both failed to get transformed completely into a modern system. Regardless of the fact
that Church and state had mutually strong ties with each other, but popes and rulers struggled with
each other for being in command of the administration of church and material lands. Therefore,
some historians portrayed this period as a significant one for politics while some think this age as
meaningless and abandoning the whole concept.
Also, during the renaissance stage, kings, dukes, earls and other nobles dominated the political
field but as the feudal system began to collapse; these titles stared losing their influence. This
shaped the beginning of varying unbalanced surroundings which promoted rapid development in
all areas. This stage was subjugated by confrontations and wars not for the sake of winning
territories but for the sake of protests, to satisfy the upper class thirst for war. The downfall of the
Roman Empire and the influence and authority of the papacy was consequential with the increase
in independence and self reliance of city states in most of the Europe.
For monarchies and oligarchies, the revival transformations in the fashions of art, over and above
the attitude of artists, required affluent clientele to maintain and endorse it, and Italy was in

Robin Williams Case Study
Case Study
Robin Williams will go down in history as one of America s favorite stand up comedians and
actors. Movies like Mrs. Doubtfire, Flubber, and Patch Adams filled homes with laughter and
showcased Williams comedy talent. Other classics such as, Dead Poet Society and Good Will
Hunting, showcased a different side of Williams and his dynamic talent. In 2014, Ameri cans were
devastated when the news broke that Robin Williams had committed suicide. Many questioned how
America s favorite smiling, funny guy could have committed such a dark act. It left the whole
world wondering who Robin Williams really was, and what he was dealing with when the cameras
weren t rolling.
Robin Williams grew up in an upper middle class family with both parents having successful careers
that often required time spent away from home and away from Williams. Despite having estranged
parents and moving several times during childhood, Williams remained a successful student. Due to
Williams outstanding academic achievements, he fell victim to constant bullying. As a coping
mechanism, Williams used comedy as a way to deflect the bullying or show real emotion. This was
when Williams discovered that he had talent and later joined the drama club. This was the
beginning of a new dream for Williams, and the path which ultimately led to his success. (Evans,
2016)
In the years after his high school graduation, Williams landed himself a scholarship to Juilliard
School of Arts to study theater. It was another step in the journey of his dream to becoming a
Hollywood actor. Although he had great success while at Juilliard, he ended up leaving before
graduating and moving to San Francisco to perform as a stand up comedian.
It was here that he began to be successful, but unfortunately, along with that success came his
involvement with drugs and alcohol. Williams once explained in an interview that he used cocaine
because it had a reverse effect on him and made him talk less. (Lincoln, 2015)
Robin Williams was successful in his endeavors to be discovered on stage. His career began to take
off as he started getting small acting roles in shows like Happy Days, which lead to his own
spinoff show Mork and Mindy. Author Brian Morris says, Despite

Christian Mysticism In Canto 27 Of Dante s Purgatorio
In Canto 27 of Dante s Purgatorio, Dante travels through the terrace of lust along with his guide
Virgil and Statius, a poet newly released from Purgatory beginningand begins a transition from an
epic mode to a lyric one. Oddly, reparation for the sin of lust draws Dante back to his past as a
lyric love poet, although such a life is notorious for its connotations with sensuality. However, this
placement indicates a central theme of the Divine Comedy: to ascend to God, Dante must learn to
love Him. Although classic Christian mysticism, such as that of St. Augustine s Confessions, seeks
union with God through abandonment of earthly goods, Dante can only reach the Divine through

The Anatomy and Actions of the Knee Essay
The knee joint is formed by the articulation of the distal end of the femur and the proximal end of
the tibia. The fibula is only involved to the extent that it serves as an attachment site for connective
tissue. In this paper, the anatomy of the joint will be discussed.
The knee is a hinge type, diarthrotic, or freely moveable joint. Also referred to as a synovial joint,
the 2 articulating ends of bone are encased in a capsule that lubricates the joint with synovial fluid
to reduce friction.
Each bone in a synovial joint has articular cartilage at the articulating surface. The C shaped medial
and lateral menisci serve to deepen the articulation at the superior surface of the tibia, thus
enhancing the bony stability of the joint.

The quads include the rectus femoris, and the vastus lateralis, intermedius, and medialis. This
muscle group shares a common tendon at insertion. The patellar tendon inserts at the tibial
tuberosity, and within this tendon lies the patella. The patella is anterior to the femur tibia
articulation, and this sesmoid bone increases the leverage of the quads by acting as a pulley. The
major contributor to the stability of the knee joint is the strength of the quads. The only muscle that
assists in extension is the tensor fascia lata.
Rotation at the knee can only occur when the joint is in flexion. Medial, or internal, rotation is a

How Did The Second Industrial Revolution Change American...
In post Civil War America, the Second Industrial Revolution changed society in all aspects.
Technological innovation, particularly, allowed for aggressive westward expansion and the creation
of the American millionaire encouraged American settlers further. Expansionism was merciless,
destroying local environments and causing sporadic negotiation with the Amerian Indian groups
that were the first to experience the negative effects of industrialization. A combination of
government corruption, changing policies, and aggressive expansionism led to conflicts between
white settlers and American Indian groups. American Indian policy in the US had been ever
changing but as westward expansion began the reservation system, rather than cohabitation, was the
most popular method for the theoretical protection of native groups. Disregarding the shortcomings
of the reservation system, American Indians could live and practice their beliefs as they always...

It did, however, further exacerbate already existing issues. The flawed reservation system did more
than frustrate American Indians; many died from lack of resources that were promised to them.
The treaties that allowed whites to take native homelands often assured that on reservations,
American Indians would be provided with resources and money. The reality, however, was that
federal agents tasked with overseeing reservations often pocketed the funds and didn t care to
ensure other resources were provided. As a result, many American Indian groups were forced to
leave the reservations or face starvation, but the damage wrought by expansionism often meant
depleted resources even off reserved land. The conditions on reservations and aggressive
expansionism encouraged the Ghost Dance movement, which was a spiritual practice that sought to
resurrect bison populations and push whites back to

Comparison Of King Lear And The Great Gatsby
King Lear and Jay Gatsby are both influential and wealthy men consumed by obsession and lose
everything in their desperate pursuit of love. This is their tragic flaw; and one that ultimately leads
to their demise.
Within Shakespeare s King Lear and F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, the following
human flaws are explored: obsession, greed, yearning, and loss. These flaws are a commonality
between these two characters. Although these flaws are standard for many characters among
many genres, they are unique only to Lear and Gatsby because they lead to their death. Lear and
Gatsby share a dream of power and love, but this dream slowly becomes an unhealthy obsession.
King Lear is so blinded by his love for his daughters that he does not see that they are only using
him for his wealth. Jay Gatsby shares a mutual experience; he is oblivious to Daisy Buchanan s
materialistic and selfish ways and is helpless to her charms. In Act Two of King Lear, the Fool
tells the King ...fathers that bear bags shall see their children kind. (2.4 49 50), a premonition that
clearly illustrates how Lear s daughters love him only for his riches. Both men are bound by their
mutual suffering caused by the women that dominate their lives. It is obvious in The Great Gatsby
that Daisy Buchanan is a woman who only has eyes for powerful men and when she realizes that
Gatsby is a self made millionaire, she casts him aside. The same occurs in King Lear; Goneril and
Regan only proclaim to love their

Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus debuted 24 years ago. It was a huge hit back then and still is today. Bette Midler,
Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker brought the Sanderson sisters to life. As a Halloween
classic, the movie is typically played on the Disney Channel at least once through the month of
October. Now, Hocus Pocus fans may get an even bigger treat than they ever anticipated.
According to TV Guide, the Disney Channel is busy working on a Hocus Pocus reboot that
would be a made for TV movie. The assumption is that it would be similar to the Disney Channel
original movies like Halloweentown and Twitches. This is great news for fans, especially those
with children who will be able to watch it with them. It is in the very early stages right now, and
won t make it for the Halloween season this year.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has been confirmed that Kenny Ortega will not be attached to the project despite being the
original director. The scriptwriter and the producer have already been chosen, but that is the extent
of the knowledge. While it was speculated that the original cast members would return, but that has
been squashed now. All new characters will be introduced with the Hocus Pocus being more
imaginative than the first. After nearly a quarter century, Hocus Pocus still draws quite the fanfare.
The story as original, something that wasn t typical of the Halloween movies put out. The
Sanderson sisters have inspired Halloween costumes, decorating themes, and so much more.
Despite the actresses going on and doing much more high profile work, they are still recognized for
their Sanderson sister character by fans. The idea that they won t be in the reboot is a bit
disappointing, but there is room to showcase something different without taking away from the

Ethics Issues
Law enforcement men and women put their lives on the line to serve and protect the
communities that they live in but it is when one or two of those make a bad decision that can
quickly change the perspective of society. This perspective of trust, respect, safety and integrity
can be changed in a short time by a few unethical choices and to rebuild that perspective can take
many years. This is a sad world that we live in when we cannot trust the people that have sworn to
serve and protect our communities to make the right decisions when it comes to their duties.

The whole ordeal was caught on video by other detectives that were investing human trafficking
nearby, whom stepped in to get help to the beaten men (Lynch, 2013) . These three particular
incidents appear to be nothing out of the ordinary these days for police departments across the
country, all of this are very inappropriate and all different forms of misconduct unethical to say
the least. The officers of time past were respectful and treated people the way that they should
fair, innocent until proven guilty and there were not as many officers that were being called out
for misconduct. This is partly due to the swing in society but also the capabilities of cell phones,
on board cameras and the ability to share just as quick as you can record, technology surely has not
been friendly to the police in America. The technology meant to protect the police is now their
downfall because of their heinous actions, that are less than ethical but also less than human.

  • 2. Using the Eight Ethical Decision Model in a Case Study Background: Two staff are seen carrying the old woman and throwing her onto her bed. (YouTube) A nursing home along Braddell Road has been suspended from admitting new patients with effect from 12 April after a patient was reported to have been mistreated. The incident at Nightingale Nursing Home came to light after a video of a patient being mistreated was sent to local broadcaster Mediacorp. The footage was shot by a hidden camera on a patient s bedside. In the video, an elderly woman patient is seen sitting stark naked beside a bed with the room ceiling fans on. She is then picked up by two hospitalstaff and thrown onto a bed, before a staff is shown slapping her on her mouth when she wailed in pain. Reports say the patient has been a resident there for four years and is suffering from stroke. The Ministry of Health (MOH) said it has suspended the nursing home from admitting new patients from 12 April until further notice. The nursing home has also disciplined the staff involved and put in place additional measures such as ward rounds by senior staff, regular meetings with patients and their familymembers, and management check on staff conduct and patients In a statement to Yahoo! Singapore, a MOH spokesperson said, investigations into the video recording show significant lapses in the care standards to the patient in question. This should not have happened. There should have been tighter supervision of staff rendering care to vulnerable patients. Patient s dignity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Economic and Social Effects of Prohibition Essay example Economic and Social Effects of Prohibition There are many ways in which prohibition of alcohol consumption in the United States of America, damaged the very economic and social aspects of American culture, that it was designed to heal. Prohibition did not achieve its goals. Instead, it added to the problems it was intended to solve. On 16th January 1920, one of the most common personal habits and customs of American society came to a halt. The eighteenth amendment was implemented, making all importing, exporting, transporting, selling and manufacturing of intoxicating liquors absolutely prohibited. This law was created in the hope of achieving the reduction of alcohol consumption, which in turn would reduce: crime, poverty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of this new law, a new social problem arose. Seldom has law been more flagrantly violated. Not only did Americans continue to manufacture, barter, and possess alcohol; they drank more of it. Americans who supported prohibition, argued that if drinking alcohol was illegal, the public would recognize and respect the law, and in turn, would give it up. During the start of prohibition, it appeared as though it was working. But, what was really going on, was that since the transportation and production was not allowed, bootleggers had to find ways to do it without being caught. The price of beer rose, because it had to be transported in large barrels, which was more difficult. As a result, people started drinking more potent hard liquor. It took less to get drunk, therefore it was easier to transport, thus, it was cheaper. Americans would drink this potent liquor and get drunk a lot faster, for less money. As a downfall, however, the liquor had no standards. The rate of alcohol related deaths due to poisoning drastically increased from 1,064 in 1920, to 4,154 in 1925. One of the biggest outcomes of prohibition was the development of organized crime. Because liquor was no longer legally available, the public turned to gangsters who took on the bootlegging industry and supplied them with liquor. Because the industry was so immensely profitable, more gangs participated. As a result of the money involved in the bootlegging industry, there was much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reason for Commercial Breaks Commercial Breaks Commercials have become an integral part of television programs these days. We don t find any channel or show without being interrupted by commercials. This is most likely because commercials are the very means of financing a show or program. Programs are even designed keeping in mind the timebeing allotted to commercials. People at various ages seem to have various reactions to commercials. At times kids enjoy commercial showing cartoons or any other baby products, but showing a commercial during cartoons really annoys them. In the same way programs that are targeting adults, serious shows that indulge the audience, interruption by a commercial break is not welcomed at all. In fact if one picks up an ongoing soap opera, which shows an hour long episode, each week is usually composed of fifty minutes of the show and ten to fifteen minutes of commercials. Baywatchis a very popular television series being shown on star world these days. Since this is its repeat telecast it is shown in the afternoon rather then in prime time. I seem to enjoy the show to a very extent because it is composed of exotic scenes, drama and cool stunts. Yes, Baywatch is one of my favorite shows on television. I haven t missed a single episode even when this show was shown on prime time. I would leave all my work and sit in front of the television at 9:00pm. He is familiar with the atmosphere around him and it s apparent he has wandered far beyond the city. It is understood that the speaker is very lonely on his walks and often finds himself hoping someone would call out to him. The speakers determination to continuously proceed on his walks is demonstrated when he states I have walked out in the rain and back again in the rain. / i have outwalked the furthest city light. The furthest city light is a representation of the final signs of life the speaker passes before he can reach absolute darkness physically as well as mentally. By entering blackness, the speaker demonstrates a desire for loneliness and isolation from any form of life. Similarly, Roger Gilbert s stated: the speaker makes a point of outwalk[ing] the furthest city light (49 74),leaving behind the human markers and habitations that create a sense of community, and faring into a lonelier kind of landscape. A foreign language is useful in many ways such as Mandarin which is the most spoken language in the world, or being able to connect to foreign cultures, and it also useful in national security. Many Americans believe there is no need in learning a foreign language because English is the most dominant language and is being taught in every other country which is true, however there is one language more dominant, Mandarin. Many believe English is the most spoken language in the world however there are more than twice as many speakers of Mandarin Chinese as of English which shows that the English language is not as dominant in the world as people believe (Paul). Montgomery Hyde, while exploring the roots of Western pornography, found that even in the Bible there is an abundance of material in the Old Testament on the subject of pornography in its original sense of writing about prostitutes and their patrons, as there are also references which are certainly obscene if not pornographic in the wider sense as it is generally understood today. 8 In early Greece, representations of men and women enjoying various forms of sexual intercourse were even depicted on the bottoms of children s drinking bowls and plates, so that they could have something amusing to look at when they were having their meals. 9 About the time of the birth of Christ, Ovid wrote for a Roman audience Ars Amorato ? a work if not pornographic in the strictest sense, at least highly erotic. 10 The pornographic tradition continued in Western culture with works such as the Decameron, The Canterbury Tales in England, and the Heptameron in France. 11 Fascination with the bawdy is also the basis for many a literary classic. The question is, does he do these things as a Christian hero with god in mind, or does he do it as a Pagan hero, for fame and wealth. In the epic, Beowulf battles against three noteworthy monsters that had their fights detailed in more than a passing mention such as the many battles and wars that he fought in. These three monsters are Grendel, Grendel s mother, who was not named, and the Dragon. Beowulf, when contrasted with these Pagan monsters, appears Christian. However, sometimes it is hard as humans to not make assumptions about others based on the brand of clothing they wear, the amount of money they make, or how they look. The principle of always being kind to those around us is pounded in our heads from the minute we are able to walk. Generally, being kind and refraining from judgement is a valuable lesson. However, in the case when appearances correspond with personality and your first impression of someone happens to be true, it is almost impossible to believe that judging others is a sinful act. This unique situation being that of the story of Grendel in John Gardner s novel, Grendel. In this mythical novel, Grendel is an anti hero that believes in the principles of nihilism. He has many negative attributes that lead me to believe that he is purely evil. These negative traits include being psychotic, remorseless, fear indulging, and blatantly hateful. These ghastly and horrific traits prove his heinous reputation to be true. Grendel shows obvious signs of psychological issues which support the idea that he is a cold blooded creature. While it is common for many athletes to maintain a diet high in carbohydrates, alternative diets are quickly becoming more popular (Nogales‐Gadea et al., 2017). Glycogen is a polysaccharide stored in animal liver and muscle cells that is easily converted to glucose to meet metabolic energy requirements (glycogen, 2017). High muscle glycogen levels are a major contributor to increased athlete performance, and researchers have proven on several occasions that a high carbohydrate is key to achieving these levels (Dunford, 2006). However, the growing controversy has opened up a new debate on possible alternatives to high carbohydrate diets with the possibility that these alternatives could provide similar levels of nutrients to endurance athletes. Increasing demand of more advance electrical system in aircraft industries has refined the electronic power, fault control actuator systems into a new level. To reinforce the technological progress of an aircraft electrical system, the concept of More Electric Aircraft (MEA) has been introduced in the electrical system of the aircraft by replacing non electrical power in the aircraft with electricity. (Corcau. J.I., Dinca. Some even associate drug abuse and addiction with lack of moral principles or willpower. People subscribing to this school of thought believe that drug addicts can stop using drugs by simply changing their behavior. They fail to realize that drug addiction is a complex disease whose eradication calls for many things other than changing habits. Drugs basically change the way a human brain works. Drug addiction like any other disease can be treated and addicts helped to lead productive lives (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Drug addiction has far reaching ramifications on individuals and society. It leads to decline in productivity and a surge in health and crime related costs. In the United States, these costs exceed $600 billion annually. These costs include $181 billion for illicit drugs, $193 billion for tobacco, and $235 billion for alcohol. These costs do not bring into perspective the breadth of destructive public health and safety implication of drug abuse and addiction like family breakages; loss of employment; failure in school; domestic violence; and child abuse which are not factored in (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Decision to take drugs is normally voluntary. However, changes in brain after protracted use makes one to loose self control and ability to resist intense impulses that urges him to take drugs. In 2014, Ameri cans were devastated when the news broke that Robin Williams had committed suicide. Many questioned how America s favorite smiling, funny guy could have committed such a dark act. It left the whole world wondering who Robin Williams really was, and what he was dealing with when the cameras weren t rolling. Despite having estranged parents and moving several times during childhood, Williams remained a successful student. Due to Williams outstanding academic achievements, he fell victim to constant bullying. As a coping mechanism, Williams used comedy as a way to deflect the bullying or show real emotion. This was when Williams discovered that he had talent and later joined the drama club. This was the beginning of a new dream for Williams, and the path which ultimately led to his success. This is partly due to the swing in society but also the capabilities of cell phones, on board cameras and the ability to share just as quick as you can record, technology surely has not been friendly to the police in America. The technology meant to protect the police is now their downfall because of their heinous actions, that are less than ethical but also less than human. References Lynch, T. (2013, March 26).
