Essay on Happiness and Drought
It is interesting to think about why our ancestors decided to include the pursuit of happiness as an
American s unalienable right, as opposed to the previously considered, right to land. To live a life
without happiness, it seemed to them, is to live a life without meaning. Edgar Lee Masters poems
commonly reflect on the quality, or lack thereof, of happiness in the afterlife of dead countrymen (and
women). The diction, word choice and imagery in Fiddler Jones by Masters expresses the seemingly
inherent joy of a lackadaisical man as well as the value of perspectives and the ability to posit
happiness over fortune and land.
As many of Master s poems in his Spoon River Anthology, the title Fiddler Jones refers to a man who

Although the poem begins by talking generally about the fundamental process of life, lines 3 and 4
bring an individual to the stage in which the poem is set forth. This is done by introducing the art of
fiddle playing and the skill that such a feat requires. A skill is a tenet that sets apart an individual from
a general crowd. It is something that one may seek pleasure from and it is here that the speaker of the
poem creates this separation the individual.
And if the people find you can fiddle,
Why, fiddle you must, for all your life. (ll. 3 4)
At this point we are being advised by the speaker that if we have a skill we must use it for the rest of
our lives. But it also says that if people find you can fiddle, which suggests a communal aspect. This
skill that sets one apart also makes them a part of a community that cherishes the skill which one has
acquired. This further contributes to the meaning on the poem because this is the point in which we
are given insight into the speaker s philosophy. This belief being that if one is good at something it
should fully encompass their being for the duration of one s life, thus rendering it a passion that
becomes as a part of living as breathing itself. This leads into the next lines where we are now
required to consider value as a component in distinguishing divergent perspectives. The point in which
perspectives diverge happens in lines 4 and 5, where Master s imagery is employed to depict the scene

Pros And Cons Of Child Beauty Pageants
Imagining if one day you saw your five year old daughter with a full face of makeup and high heels.
Now she looks like a miniature adult. Not only is she a miniature adult, but now she also is very self
conscious of herself and has an eating disorder at five years old. Child beauty pageants have some
pros and a of lot cons to them. Also, they can affect a child s development. One should consider that
child beauty pageants can lead to a lot of mental health issues for kids at a very young age. First, we
will talk about how child beauty pageants started. The upbringing of child beauty pageants is very
interesting. It started off with Pageants celebrating female beauty and charm being fixture at fairs and
festivals the U.S. since the 19th century (Hilboldt), and then Their rise in popularity probably dates
back to 1954, when the miss America pageants was first broadcasted on TV (Hilboldt). In 1960, a
miami broadcaster hosted the first locally televised pageant for children, Little Miss universes
(Hilboldt). Around The 1980 s child pageants had become an inextricable part of life in the South...
(Hilboldt). Pageants have dated back for centuries, but did not rise in popularity until it was first
broadcasted on TV. Furthermore, the number of kids that participate in beauty pageants is eminence. A
majority of little girls wanted to be in pageants, because They began dreaming of one day becoming
Miss America (Hilboldt). With so many kids in pageants It s estimated that 25,000 children compete in
more than 5,000 pageants in the U.S. each year (Hilboldt). It is crazy how many little girls participate
in beauty pageants each year just so they can hopefully become the next Miss America. While beauty
pageants are still relevant and legal in the U.S. France is trying to ban them. France is considering a
move to ban beauty pageants for girls under 16 as a way to fight the hyper sexualization of children (
France ). While, Under the proposal, organizers of beauty pageants aimed at young children...could
face up to two years in prison and fines of $40,000 ( France ). Also, The measure is a part of of a
wider law on gender equality and was approved by the French Senate after garnering 197 votes in
favor of the ban,

How Did Alexander Kerensky s Fall To The Fall Of The...
After overthrowing Tsar Nicholas II, Russian people were optimistic for change. The Provisional
Government inherited authority after the removal of Tsar Nicholas II. A better life was promised and
optimism spread across the country as the Provisional Government took control. Eventually the
Provisional Government was confronted by the same issues Tsarism faced. The majority of the people
felt the abdication of the Tsar was positive, but now the main issue became Russia s involvement in
World War 1. Alexander Kerensky, was appointed Minister of War and rose to a higher rank on July
1917, when he became Prime Minister. Kerensky was initially praised for his role in the Duma and
was favourite to become Russia s saviour. Despite his best efforts to unite all political parties, he soon
alienated himself by not bettering the lives of the Russian people. He also lost the confidence of the
left wing by refusing to apply their radical social and economic program. Kerensky failed to control
certain aspects such as; Russia s involvement in World War 1, Land rights and the Kornilov Affair .
Due to these failures Kerensky and the Provisional Government collapsed.
During World War 1 Russia faced difficulties constantly. Russia suffered food, transport, men and
weapon shortages regularly. After the failures of the June Offensive, Kerensky took charge. The
Russian army s strength had been eroding for months. The Radical Left political group, the
Bolsheviks, called for peace, land, and bread. . Kerensky had planned an offensive, known as the June
Offensive. The June Offensive failed and this impacted negatively on the Russian army. Morale was
dangerously low, whilst desertion and indiscipline began to grow. Weary soldiers terrorised the
civilian population on their way home, and violence became a common daily condition in Russia.
Whilst Kerensky was trying to inspire soldiers, Lenin was actively convincing people to stop fighting.
General Brusilov said
In a year of war the regular army had vanished. It was replaced by an army of ignoramuses. From July
onwards it became increasingly evident that the majority of support for the soldiers lay with Lenin and
the Bolsheviks, instead of Kerensky. Kerensky claimed propaganda had

The Selling of Women in America Essay
The Selling of Women in America
Beautiful, skin tight clothing, thin, blonde, long hair, and big breasted women are what people
normally think of when they think of television commercials. This is very stereotypical but how
stereotypical is it? Look at the media anymore and this is what the audience sees. There may be a
change here and there with the hair color and how tight the clothing is but in all honestly this is what
the public is seeing on television screens if they sit there and watch the television screens. Our society
has brought about the sex appeal in women to sell their products. How true is all of this? From a series
of surveys, an interview, observation, and case study I have chosen to prove that a certain type of ...

I think not! Amazingly so, when responding to the question of whether or not women are used
inappropriately in these commercials, five people said yes, three said no, and two said sometimes. A
male participant gave a response of women are used too often as a source of attention while men aren

there is a certain type of women used. The top three descriptions of her were big breasted, slim, and

Lab Report On Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen Peroxide
Rate of Reaction
By
Kevin Frappier

BIOL133
Abstract
The reason for conducting this lab is discover is changing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration
will affect the rate of reaction. During the experiment, the H2O2 rate will be changed and pressure
will be measured using a gas pressure sensor. The data suggests that as the hydrogen peroxide
concentration increases, the rate of diffusion increases and that my hypothesis is valid.
Introduction
Hydrogen peroxide is a by product of biochemical metabolism. The accumulation of hydrogen
peroxide can be deadly, so it must be decomposed. One of the decomposing factors is an enzyme
called Catalase. Catalase breaks hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Since this is a
decomposition reaction, it is exothermic. Hydrogen peroxide can gradually degenerate itself, it
decomposes much faster with the help of Catalase which lowers the activation energy to the minimum
energy barrier that hydrogen peroxide molecules should overcome to decompose.

Teenage Birth And STD Rates
Teenage birth and STD rates have long been a problem in the United States. The United States has
some of the highest rates of teenage births and STDs in the industrialized world. Every hour in the
United States, 70 teenage girls become pregnant and 1100 teens are infected with an STD (Satcher,
Carmona Elders, 2015). According to Kearney and Levine (2012), a teenage girl in the United States
is two times more likely to give birth than a teenage girl in Canada, four times more likely to give
birth than a teenage girl in Germany or Norway, and ten times more likely to give birth than a teenage
girl in Switzerland (p. 141). Adolescents account for half of the United States new STD cases each
year, although they make up only a quarter of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Current programs have been successful in lowering the teenage birth rates from their 1991 rates to
their current rates, a difference of more than 50 percent. While the STD rates in the United States have
not improved, they have ceased to increase in recent years (Satcher, Carmona Elders, 2015). Sexual
education programs differ in what information the program covers, who teaches the class, and how
relevant the material is to a diverse student body. In order for a sexual education program to be
successful in reducing teenage pregnancy and STD rates, the United States needs to ensure that
schools are offering comprehensive sexual education classes that incorporate information on
contraceptives and condom usage, are facilitated by both trained and qualified teachers and health
professionals, and are tailored to a diverse student

Storm Warnings
The basics of survival and the defining bricks on the pyramid of survival are food, water, and security
(or shelter). Anything outside of these are not necessities but simply strong desires. The stability of the
pyramid is threatened when any of the bricks crack. In the poem Storm Warnings by Adrienne Rich,
the brick of security is deteriorating. In a literal sense, the narrator is preparing herself and her home
for a storm that could easily swipe her shelter, or in a figurative sense her sanity.
Storm warnings appear in different ways that appeal to our senses. Such as the blackening of the skies
(vision), the forecast predictions (hearing), and the actual precipitation (touch). Much like our senses,
our emotions alert our inner selves

Case Study of Traumatic Experience in an Adult
The case study was a case of a victim who had suffered from the traumatic experience and was then
under rehabilitation. The traumatic experience lasted for almost five years, during which the victim
was subjected to torture, humiliation and feeling of hopelessness. Furthermore, instances of pain and
feeling of being an outcast were rampant in the victim s life at the time. The experience was worsened

The event of the traumatic experience was being taken hostage by terrorist while in a social hall.
During the hostage, the victim was left with no choice but to remain calm and obey orders of the

Essay On Teenage Moms
Being a mom is hard, and being a teenage mom is even harder. Most teen moms will drop out and not
continue further with their careers. By age 30, only 1.5 percent of women who had pregnancies as a
teenager have a college degree ( Teen Pregnancy Statistics ). Nowadays, schools like Santa Ana
College can help these young mothers attain a profession and raise their kids at the same time. Now
thanks to colleges like SAC, that percentage can increase, and young mothers can strive to better
themselves. Giving them support is essential because it will give them a place where they feel secure
and supported; it will help them realize that it s never too late. In our postcard for Santa Ana College,
we use the strategy of support to attract teen moms.
We use three colors to show support for teen moms in college. The first color we picked is pink. This
color is used as the background of the postcard. We used pink as our background because it is a color
that signifies the huge amount of support mainly for women. For example, the color pink represents
support for women struggling with breast cancer. Pink is a sign of hope. It s a positive color giving a
sense that everything will be okay. We also picked pink because pink is known to be a very feminine
color. Ever since birth, girls are usually adorned in pink. Another color we used was white. It is used
in the lettering of the school, which is Santa Ana College . These teen moms attending SAC are

Hurricane Emily Research Paper
Hurricane Emily
Hurricane Emily was a powerful tropical cyclone that wreaked havoc across the Caribbean Sea to
Mexico. It broke the record for being the strongest hurricane formed, just days after Hurricane Dennis
had done so. The storm formed on July 10th, 2005 in the centre of the Atlantic Ocean. It then passed
over the Windward Islands on the 14th, before traveling west northwest and slowly intensified over
the Caribbean until it hit its peak as a Category 5 hurricane on July 16th. This made it the first
category 5 hurricane of the year. The storm travelled over the Yucatan Peninsula as a Category 4, and
Emily hit the Gulf of Mexico and Tamaupullas in the next few days. On July 20th, the storm
dissipated within 24 hours. The scientific name for this type of storm is a tropical cyclone ; however,
when formed over the Atlantic Ocean or the Eastern Pacific Ocean, they are called hurricanes.
Hurricanes are formed in intense low pressure areas in these oceans. The fuel of a hurricane is water
vapour from the surface of the ocean. This water vapour condenses to form clouds and rain which, in
turn, warms the surrounding air. When there is little wind shear over the ocean (this is what usually
takes the heat away), the heat will build up and cause pressure to form. This causes wind to spiral in

Analysis Of The Book Marchers Of The Night
Whats In The Night The retelling of spooky ghost stories has been a favorite activity in many cultures,
wether it be around a campfire of written in various articles and book. Perhaps one of the most
mysterious supernatural activities can be reported on the islands of Hawaii. Known as the Night
Marchers, these spirits have been known to roam the land, revisiting ancient war sites and significant
historical landmarks. In the book, Marchers of the Night by Helen P. Hoyt, a renowned Hawaiian
author, he describes his first experience with the Huaka ipo, or the Night Marchers. In all the hundred
years of my life I have seen the Marchers of the Night, the Huaka ipo, only twice... (Hoyt 1969). He
then continues to explain how on the night of the sixth of August, 1918, a night sacred to Ku, ancient
god of all warriors the Night Marchers, which their torches and pounding drums came to his house in
the town of Waianae. Based on the many stories about the Night Marchers and the other cultures
around the world who have similar spirits, I will attempt to demonstrate that these ghosts are more fact
than fiction. Hawaii has a rich background of folklores and mythology and it s link to the past in ever
present. Stories of the Night Marchers were first written about in the late 1900 s but they were orally
passed down long before that. Their native name is Huaka ipo, but was translated to english as the
Night Marchers. The term derives from the two words, huaka i which means to

Challenges Facing Law Enforcement Agencies Essay
In this writing assignment I will explain some greatest challenge facing law enforcement agencies
today. I will describe how the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies can interact and

Identify some of the challenges and solution in the overlapping of jurisdictions pose when combating

There are a number of challenges that law enforcement agencies are facing like investigating internet
exploitation, cyber stalking, and obscenity. Other challenges are overlapping of agencies, the lack of
funding, and investigating exploitation, cyber stalking, obscenity, and the specific challenges with
overlapping of jurisdictions. I think the greatest challenge they face has been investigating
exploitation, cyber stalking, and obscenity is issues with evidence and detection. The fact that data on
the computer can be deleted, modified, or destroyed can hinder the investigation process. The nature
of the evidence makes it difficult to investigate cybercrime. Because digital evidence is a collection of
numbers that are fragile and can be lost, damaged or changed. It is always important to protect and
maintain the chain of custody but the nature of the evidence makes this daunting task very difficult. It
is very easy for investigators to contaminate the

Abraham Lincoln s Beliefs
Some have said that Abraham Lincoln s beliefs are a mystery. He himself has never proclaimed his
beliefs but a lot can be determined by his actions and words. Through observation, there have been
quite a lot of conclusions to his faith. Some conclusions are: skepticism, deism, Christianity, theism,
fatalism, and even atheism. It s an on going debate for the conclusion to his faith although we won t be
able to ever prove exactly what his beliefs were since he never made a profession, there are many facts
leading to his belief in a personal savior.
Among the conclusions, skepticism is one of many. In his earlier years, he was a known skeptic and he
is often remembered as a skeptic because of his earlier quotes (George). Despite his firm belief in
God, proved by the references to God and the Bible in the Second Inaugural Address, some say that he
was just trying to please the audience even though what he said is not what the people wanted to hear
(Calhoun and Morel). Lincoln may have been a skeptic at a young age, but he showed reliance on God
later in life. James Smith said that he was inclined to believe that Lincoln was a skeptic but unlike
most skeptics, he was a constant reader of the Bible (Lind, 51). He showed no skepticism as the
president, he only showed his reliance on God and his unfailing word.
Another belief was that Lincoln was a deist. Possibly because he never made a profession of faith and
he never officially joined a church but this is not a sound argument.

Personality Development By Mary D. Salter Ainsworth And...
Main Idea Attachment, as defined by Infants, Children, and Adolescents is the strong emotional
connection that develops between an infant and caregiver, which provides the infant with a sense of
joy, comfort, and emotional security (Berk, 2012, p. 264). Between 6 to 12 months of age, infants
typically have developed said strong emotional connection to familiar people who have responded to
their need for comfort, care, and other needs. While many individuals might suggest that a baby s
emotional connection to the mother serves as the basis upon which all future relationships are built,
how this strong emotional connection develops has been a source of debate for decades. Theories that

Ethology, an approach that has become widely accepted in recent years, is focused upon the adaptive,
or survival, value of behavior and its evolutionary history (Berk, 2012, p. 264). According to Infants,
Children, and Adolescents, the ethological theory provides that babies are biologically prepared to
contribute actively to establish a bond with their caregivers, which promotes the chances for their
individual genes to survive. Since ethologists believe that behavior can be best understood in terms of
one s adaptive value, a full understanding of the entire organism environment system, including
physical, social, and cultural aspects is sought (Berk, 2012, p. 264). John Bowlby, who first applied
this approach to the infant caregiver bond, maintained that the quality of future relationships is
directly related to the quality of an infant s attachment to the caregiver (Berk, 2012, p. 265).
Evaluation of Evidence Inspired by Konrad Lorenz s (1952) study of imprinting in baby geese,
Bowlby believed that an infant, just like the young of most animal species, is born with built in
behaviors that ensure that a parent stays close by, which improves the odds that the infant will remain
safe from danger. Through these built in behaviors, a strong emotional connection develops.
According to Lorenz, this strong emotional connection serves as a reference for future relationships.
Granted, Bowlby s ethological theory of attachment appears to be

What Is The Theme Of Marble Chappe
Marble Champ by : Alessandra Bontomasi
Have you ever said to yourself I give up right away and don t even try? Well there is a saying that is
when you work hard it will play off, and in the story Marble Champ by Gary Soto the main character,
Lupe Merdrano never stopped working hard and it lead her to a big prize at the end. The reasons for
this is that she was not good at sports first, then she practiced and practised, then it all paid off in the
future.
In the first little part of the story lupe the main character seems to not be very good at sports. But the
thing is she would say to herself I will never be good at sports. The first piece of evidence is that she
can t run very fast, for example in the story Marble Champ she would try and try to get her body to
move faster in the fifty yard dash and she would never beat anyone. So, this shows that she is not good
at sports because in most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did The Union Win The Civil War A Turning Point
During the time of the civil war, there were a lot of things that happened that affected the outcome of
the civil war. When this war started, both sides had reason to believe that they would win, but both
were surprised that the war was going to be longer and much more difficult than expected. After this
long and difficult war, it is safe to be said that the turning points and advantages that helped the Union
win this war were the resource ratio advantage, the population differential advantage, the battle of
Gettysburg, Emancipation Proclamation, and Sherman s March.
The civil war was a four year long war. Four years worth of war requires four years worth of

The battles were fought in effort for the North to take over all of America in order to run all of this
land the Northern way instead of having the South run it a different way down South. The battle of
Gettysburg was memorable because this all changed. During this battle the South for the first time
went on the offensive to try and push the North further back into their territory and attacked them. The
two sides battled for three days until the North gained the upper hand and won the battle. Document 6
says this about the end of the battle, The Union victory at the Battle of Gettysburg, sometimes referred
to as the High Water Mark of the Rebellion resulted not only in Lee s retreat for Virginia, but an end to
the hopes of the confederate states of America for independence (Document 6). This quote is
explaining the fact that the Lee and his army was not going to be able to force the North back so they
were eventually doomed. Without the force to push the enemy back you are going to be overrun so
this was a turning point in the war when this was realized. This may be seen as a turning point in the
war which it is, but it can also be considered an advantage. Since the North could not be over run there
was not as much pressure on them because they knew they could defend and they did not have to be as
worried of attack. The North used this advantage on its journey of winning the civil

Rocket Launcher Lab Report
In this lab, it was found that the rocket launcher can be launched in many different ways. It was found
that the rocket launcher flights higher or goes further with the less amount of clay. I believe that that s
right because the more you add clay, the more it makes it heavier. When I put 1.49 grams of clay, it
turned out to be 16 meters and that was the highest. The experiment was completed using clay, rocket
launcher, and a measuring wheel. These materials are used in order to see what happens when it flies
higher. My hypothesis was right because I said that if we put the least amount of clay in the straw, it
will go further. It was proven right because putting less clay on a straw would make it less heavy and
lighter. The procedure shows every step, for example, you need to put 1.49 grams of clay on the

The one that went further was the 16 meter one which is the one with the less clay on it. In this lab, we
are trying to test different variables in order to figure out which one will fly further. We had to drop
weight from a high thing. This is what made it fly further. The experiment results showed that the less
cay you put, the further it will go. I believe this is right because if we add a lot of clay onto the straw,
it will add more weight to the straw, therefore, it will fall easily. So in the end, the straw with 1.49
grams of clay flew the furthest than all of them. The pattern was for every trial the less clay one

CLEAR MISSION STATEMENT AND VALUES
Having a clearly articulated mission that is prominently communicated to all employees cultivates an
intentional culture an environment where people know why they do what they do, and love their work
all the more for it. Mission statements, however, are much easier to write than to make into reality.
You need to realize that a company s culture will hinge on its ability to make the words on paper
meaningful, translating the intangible into something that has real worth and impact. * EMPLOYEE
RECOGNITION FOR SMALL AND BIG CONTRIBUTIONS
Recognition provides incentives for employees to do the best work they can do. But as much as

Australian people and culture are often stereotyped in the media in different forms, one of them being
film. The two films being examined, Red dog (2011) and the Sapphires (2012), are an example of the
Australian identity but from different points of view. Red dog shows the kind and positive side which
exemplifies mateship and loyalty. The film Sapphires ,which takes place in the 1950 s through to the
1960 s, shows a negative and racist view towards the indigenous people. Both the films show different
aspects of the Australian identity, not all insights of the films accurately represent contemporary
Australian identity as the Australian identity has changed by the evolution of people and their lifestyle.

Realism in Theatre Essay
The theatrical plays of Angels in America and August: Osage County both of the playwrights create a
heart wrenching, tear jerking, and amazing work. Each character is developed to have its own sets of
values, beliefs, and attitudes towards life and so there are no two characters alike. With each character
having its own identity, it brings a sense of excitement and unpredictability in the plays. Tracy Letts
the writer for August: Osage County establishes a sense of reality in his play by developing characters
that everyone can relate too. His play is about family, the use of drugs, cancer, and suicide, subjects
that people go through during their lifetime. Tony Kushner the playwright of Angels in America

Even though the actors are well rehearsed when it comes to moving around the stage, they do it so
effortlessly that it s not a distraction for the audience. The movement of actors may be considered a
small thing, but it s what make a play realistic or not. For a realistic play, the way the actors behave
makes it seem they are not worried about the audience and being in their way. They talk, walk and act
in a manner similar to that of our everyday behavior. In August: Osage County the actors are so
believable that we as spectators forget it s a play but rather seeing a glimpse into someone s family.
The realistic play of August: Osage County has everyone relating to someone or something during the

This play is considered a dark comedy and it has people experiencing both laughter and discomfort,

theatrical plays never dream of dedicating an entire show to. Tracy Letts is a fierce writer who doesn t

How Did Charles II Impact The English Bill Of Rights
The provisions of the English Bill of Rights provided protection against past actions taken by Charles
I and James II. The provisions of the English Bill of rights influenced future governments, such as the
United States of America. In other words, the English Bill of Rights helped create the world we live in
today. Charles I defaulted on the agreement of martial law because of its limitations on royal power.
He decided that since he could not work with Parliament, Charles would not summon to meet. Charles
I pursued a course of personal rule, which would force him to find ways to collect taxes without
cooperation of Parliament. His religious policy was catastrophic. After eleven years of frustration,
Parliament became determined to deal the king his due. They decided that the king had gone too far,
and England slipped into civil war. Parliament was victorious in the first phase of the civil war. In the

Why Is Frankenstein Bad
Good people do bad things. Doing a bad thing does not make someone a monster. For example, if a
young boy was raised in the ghetto where he and his family never had enough to eat he might have to
steal to get for his family. Even though he has done something illegal and immoral that does not make
him a bad person. He was just doing what he had to do to get his family food to eat. Even if he kills
someone in the process of sealing the food it does not make him a monster. This kid just made a bad
choice in an awful situation but he made the choice for the right reason, to feed his family. Victor
Frankenstein s creation, the monster , was not all bad. The made some bad choices because of how he
was created and how he was treated by Victor after he was created.
The monster is not faultless for the awful things that he has done. He kills three of the people that his
creator was very close to including his adopted sister Elizabeth. Losing these people is very hard on
Victor. The loss makes Victor so distraught that, he calls the spirits of the dead (179) to help him make
the monster feel the pain of loss that he feels. In addition to killing those close to Victor, the monster
destroys the house of the De Lacey s with fire and then dances with fury around the devoted cottage
(123). Additionally, the monster appears to like the trouble and anguish that he is able to trigger in
Victor: your sufferings will satisfy my everlasting hatred (181), the monster writes

America, the home of the brave and land of the free. The national anthem states this and the media
attempts to portray it to the fullest. The term mass incarceration describes the increasing rate of
imprisonment in the United States of America. The media coverage of mass incarceration differs,
some argue that this term is simply an exaggerated theory, while others believe mass incarceration has
become embedded in our society as a repeat of historical injustices. Dorothy E Roberts, social justice
advocate and American scholar, wrote an article The Social and Moral Cost of Mass Incarceration in
African American Communities, discussing the social and moral effects of mass incarceration on
African American communities. Roberts writes radical changes in crime control and sentencing
policies led to an unprecedented buildup of the United States prison population over the last thirty
years ...Today s imprisonment rate is five times as high as in 1972 and surpasses that of all other
nations (qtd. in Marc Mauer, Race to Incarcerate ). Mass incarceration has inclined into a controversial
issue in the United States, economically, politically and socially.

Native American And The American Of Native Americans
The Native American population has suffered many tragedies at the hands of the United States
government, from their first interactions through the mid twentieth century. Government policies
concerning American Indians worked in conjunction with the prejudices harbored by the majority of
the white population in the United States to suppress Native American liberties and strip them of their
cultural identity. These policies gave little to no regard for Native American customs, personal
expression, or the future of Native American traditions, and had profound effects on the Native
American individuals and families who encountered them. The boarding school policies enacted by
the United States government regarding Native Americans that were formulated to encourage the
destruction of native customs and force an entire race to assimilate into white American culture
ultimately led to the alienation of Native Americans from their native heritage and a loss of their
personal sense of self. Several government policies were created to control the attire and language of
Native Americans. Among these were targeted regulations regarding how Native American students in
boarding schools were to dress, act, and speak, oftentimes against their will or traditions. It was
common for students to be prohibited from speaking their native language, encouraged instead to read,
write, and speak in English only. One of the General Rules in Rules for Indian Schools explicitly
states that all

  • 2. Essay on Happiness and Drought It is interesting to think about why our ancestors decided to include the pursuit of happiness as an American s unalienable right, as opposed to the previously considered, right to land. To live a life without happiness, it seemed to them, is to live a life without meaning. Edgar Lee Masters poems commonly reflect on the quality, or lack thereof, of happiness in the afterlife of dead countrymen (and women). The diction, word choice and imagery in Fiddler Jones by Masters expresses the seemingly inherent joy of a lackadaisical man as well as the value of perspectives and the ability to posit happiness over fortune and land. As many of Master s poems in his Spoon River Anthology, the title Fiddler Jones refers to a man who is not only a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the poem begins by talking generally about the fundamental process of life, lines 3 and 4 bring an individual to the stage in which the poem is set forth. This is done by introducing the art of fiddle playing and the skill that such a feat requires. A skill is a tenet that sets apart an individual from a general crowd. It is something that one may seek pleasure from and it is here that the speaker of the poem creates this separation the individual. And if the people find you can fiddle, Why, fiddle you must, for all your life. (ll. 3 4) At this point we are being advised by the speaker that if we have a skill we must use it for the rest of our lives. But it also says that if people find you can fiddle, which suggests a communal aspect. This skill that sets one apart also makes them a part of a community that cherishes the skill which one has acquired. This further contributes to the meaning on the poem because this is the point in which we are given insight into the speaker s philosophy. This belief being that if one is good at something it should fully encompass their being for the duration of one s life, thus rendering it a passion that becomes as a part of living as breathing itself. This leads into the next lines where we are now required to consider value as a component in distinguishing divergent perspectives. The point in which perspectives diverge happens in lines 4 and 5, where Master s imagery is employed to depict the scene of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pros And Cons Of Child Beauty Pageants Imagining if one day you saw your five year old daughter with a full face of makeup and high heels. Now she looks like a miniature adult. Not only is she a miniature adult, but now she also is very self conscious of herself and has an eating disorder at five years old. Child beauty pageants have some pros and a of lot cons to them. Also, they can affect a child s development. One should consider that child beauty pageants can lead to a lot of mental health issues for kids at a very young age. First, we will talk about how child beauty pageants started. The upbringing of child beauty pageants is very interesting. It started off with Pageants celebrating female beauty and charm being fixture at fairs and festivals the U.S. since the 19th century (Hilboldt), and then Their rise in popularity probably dates back to 1954, when the miss America pageants was first broadcasted on TV (Hilboldt). In 1960, a miami broadcaster hosted the first locally televised pageant for children, Little Miss universes (Hilboldt). Around The 1980 s child pageants had become an inextricable part of life in the South... (Hilboldt). Pageants have dated back for centuries, but did not rise in popularity until it was first broadcasted on TV. Furthermore, the number of kids that participate in beauty pageants is eminence. A majority of little girls wanted to be in pageants, because They began dreaming of one day becoming Miss America (Hilboldt). With so many kids in pageants It s estimated that 25,000 children compete in more than 5,000 pageants in the U.S. each year (Hilboldt). It is crazy how many little girls participate in beauty pageants each year just so they can hopefully become the next Miss America. While beauty pageants are still relevant and legal in the U.S. France is trying to ban them. France is considering a move to ban beauty pageants for girls under 16 as a way to fight the hyper sexualization of children ( France ). While, Under the proposal, organizers of beauty pageants aimed at young children...could face up to two years in prison and fines of $40,000 ( France ). • 5. How Did Alexander Kerensky s Fall To The Fall Of The... After overthrowing Tsar Nicholas II, Russian people were optimistic for change. The Provisional Government inherited authority after the removal of Tsar Nicholas II. A better life was promised and optimism spread across the country as the Provisional Government took control. Eventually the Provisional Government was confronted by the same issues Tsarism faced. The majority of the people felt the abdication of the Tsar was positive, but now the main issue became Russia s involvement in World War 1. Alexander Kerensky, was appointed Minister of War and rose to a higher rank on July 1917, when he became Prime Minister. Kerensky was initially praised for his role in the Duma and was favourite to become Russia s saviour. Despite his best efforts to unite all political parties, he soon alienated himself by not bettering the lives of the Russian people. He also lost the confidence of the left wing by refusing to apply their radical social and economic program. Kerensky failed to control certain aspects such as; Russia s involvement in World War 1, Land rights and the Kornilov Affair . Due to these failures Kerensky and the Provisional Government collapsed. During World War 1 Russia faced difficulties constantly. Russia suffered food, transport, men and weapon shortages regularly. After the failures of the June Offensive, Kerensky took charge. The Russian army s strength had been eroding for months. The Radical Left political group, the Bolsheviks, called for peace, land, and bread. . Kerensky had planned an offensive, known as the June Offensive. The June Offensive failed and this impacted negatively on the Russian army. Morale was dangerously low, whilst desertion and indiscipline began to grow. Weary soldiers terrorised the civilian population on their way home, and violence became a common daily condition in Russia. Whilst Kerensky was trying to inspire soldiers, Lenin was actively convincing people to stop fighting. General Brusilov said In a year of war the regular army had vanished. It was replaced by an army of ignoramuses. From July onwards it became increasingly evident that the majority of support for the soldiers lay with Lenin and the Bolsheviks, instead of Kerensky. Kerensky claimed propaganda had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Selling of Women in America Essay The Selling of Women in America Beautiful, skin tight clothing, thin, blonde, long hair, and big breasted women are what people normally think of when they think of television commercials. This is very stereotypical but how stereotypical is it? Look at the media anymore and this is what the audience sees. There may be a change here and there with the hair color and how tight the clothing is but in all honestly this is what the public is seeing on television screens if they sit there and watch the television screens. • 8. Lab Report On Hydrogen Peroxide Hydrogen Peroxide Rate of Reaction By Kevin Frappier 10/15/2017 BIOL133 Abstract The reason for conducting this lab is discover is changing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration will affect the rate of reaction. During the experiment, the H2O2 rate will be changed and pressure will be measured using a gas pressure sensor. The data suggests that as the hydrogen peroxide concentration increases, the rate of diffusion increases and that my hypothesis is valid. Introduction Hydrogen peroxide is a by product of biochemical metabolism. The accumulation of hydrogen peroxide can be deadly, so it must be decomposed. One of the decomposing factors is an enzyme called Catalase. Catalase breaks hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Since this is a decomposition reaction, it is exothermic. Hydrogen peroxide can gradually degenerate itself, it decomposes much faster with the help of Catalase which lowers the activation energy to the minimum energy barrier that hydrogen peroxide molecules should overcome to decompose. The United States has some of the highest rates of teenage births and STDs in the industrialized world. Every hour in the United States, 70 teenage girls become pregnant and 1100 teens are infected with an STD (Satcher, Carmona Elders, 2015). According to Kearney and Levine (2012), a teenage girl in the United States is two times more likely to give birth than a teenage girl in Canada, four times more likely to give birth than a teenage girl in Germany or Norway, and ten times more likely to give birth than a teenage girl in Switzerland (p. 141). While the STD rates in the United States have not improved, they have ceased to increase in recent years (Satcher, Carmona Elders, 2015). Sexual education programs differ in what information the program covers, who teaches the class, and how relevant the material is to a diverse student body. In a literal sense, the narrator is preparing herself and her home for a storm that could easily swipe her shelter, or in a figurative sense her sanity. • 12. Essay On Teenage Moms Being a mom is hard, and being a teenage mom is even harder. Most teen moms will drop out and not continue further with their careers. By age 30, only 1.5 percent of women who had pregnancies as a teenager have a college degree ( Teen Pregnancy Statistics ). Nowadays, schools like Santa Ana College can help these young mothers attain a profession and raise their kids at the same time. Now thanks to colleges like SAC, that percentage can increase, and young mothers can strive to better themselves. Giving them support is essential because it will give them a place where they feel secure and supported; it will help them realize that it s never too late. In our postcard for Santa Ana College, we use the strategy of support to attract teen moms. We use three colors to show support for teen moms in college. The first color we picked is pink. This color is used as the background of the postcard. We used pink as our background because it is a color that signifies the huge amount of support mainly for women. For example, the color pink represents support for women struggling with breast cancer. Pink is a sign of hope. It s a positive color giving a sense that everything will be okay. We also picked pink because pink is known to be a very feminine color. Ever since birth, girls are usually adorned in pink. Another color we used was white. It is used in the lettering of the school, which is Santa Ana College . These teen moms attending SAC are entering into a new chapter of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It broke the record for being the strongest hurricane formed, just days after Hurricane Dennis had done so. The storm formed on July 10th, 2005 in the centre of the Atlantic Ocean. It then passed over the Windward Islands on the 14th, before traveling west northwest and slowly intensified over the Caribbean until it hit its peak as a Category 5 hurricane on July 16th. This made it the first category 5 hurricane of the year. The storm travelled over the Yucatan Peninsula as a Category 4, and Emily hit the Gulf of Mexico and Tamaupullas in the next few days. On July 20th, the storm dissipated within 24 hours. The scientific name for this type of storm is a tropical cyclone ; however, when formed over the Atlantic Ocean or the Eastern Pacific Ocean, they are called hurricanes. Hurricanes are formed in intense low pressure areas in these oceans. The fuel of a hurricane is water vapour from the surface of the ocean. This water vapour condenses to form clouds and rain which, in turn, warms the surrounding air. When there is little wind shear over the ocean (this is what usually takes the heat away), the heat will build up and cause pressure to form. This causes wind to spiral in on ... Analysis Of The Book Marchers Of The Night Whats In The Night The retelling of spooky ghost stories has been a favorite activity in many cultures, wether it be around a campfire of written in various articles and book. Perhaps one of the most mysterious supernatural activities can be reported on the islands of Hawaii. Known as the Night Marchers, these spirits have been known to roam the land, revisiting ancient war sites and significant historical landmarks. In the book, Marchers of the Night by Helen P. Hoyt, a renowned Hawaiian author, he describes his first experience with the Huaka ipo, or the Night Marchers. In all the hundred years of my life I have seen the Marchers of the Night, the Huaka ipo, only twice... (Hoyt 1969). He then continues to explain how on the night of the sixth of August, 1918, a night sacred to Ku, ancient god of all warriors the Night Marchers, which their torches and pounding drums came to his house in the town of Waianae. Based on the many stories about the Night Marchers and the other cultures around the world who have similar spirits, I will attempt to demonstrate that these ghosts are more fact than fiction. Hawaii has a rich background of folklores and mythology and it s link to the past in ever present. Stories of the Night Marchers were first written about in the late 1900 s but they were orally passed down long before that. There are a number of challenges that law enforcement agencies are facing like investigating internet exploitation, cyber stalking, and obscenity. Other challenges are overlapping of agencies, the lack of funding, and investigating exploitation, cyber stalking, obscenity, and the specific challenges with overlapping of jurisdictions. I think the greatest challenge they face has been investigating exploitation, cyber stalking, and obscenity is issues with evidence and detection. The fact that data on the computer can be deleted, modified, or destroyed can hinder the investigation process. The nature of the evidence makes it difficult to investigate cybercrime. Because digital evidence is a collection of numbers that are fragile and can be lost, damaged or changed. • 20. Abraham Lincoln s Beliefs Some have said that Abraham Lincoln s beliefs are a mystery. He himself has never proclaimed his beliefs but a lot can be determined by his actions and words. Through observation, there have been quite a lot of conclusions to his faith. Some conclusions are: skepticism, deism, Christianity, theism, fatalism, and even atheism. It s an on going debate for the conclusion to his faith although we won t be able to ever prove exactly what his beliefs were since he never made a profession, there are many facts leading to his belief in a personal savior. Among the conclusions, skepticism is one of many. In his earlier years, he was a known skeptic and he is often remembered as a skeptic because of his earlier quotes (George). Despite his firm belief in God, proved by the references to God and the Bible in the Second Inaugural Address, some say that he was just trying to please the audience even though what he said is not what the people wanted to hear (Calhoun and Morel). Lincoln may have been a skeptic at a young age, but he showed reliance on God later in life. James Smith said that he was inclined to believe that Lincoln was a skeptic but unlike most skeptics, he was a constant reader of the Bible (Lind, 51). He showed no skepticism as the president, he only showed his reliance on God and his unfailing word. Another belief was that Lincoln was a deist. Possibly because he never made a profession of faith and he never officially joined a church but this is not a sound argument. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Main Idea Attachment, as defined by Infants, Children, and Adolescents is the strong emotional connection that develops between an infant and caregiver, which provides the infant with a sense of joy, comfort, and emotional security (Berk, 2012, p. 264). Between 6 to 12 months of age, infants typically have developed said strong emotional connection to familiar people who have responded to their need for comfort, care, and other needs. Ethology, an approach that has become widely accepted in recent years, is focused upon the adaptive, or survival, value of behavior and its evolutionary history (Berk, 2012, p. 264). According to Infants, Children, and Adolescents, the ethological theory provides that babies are biologically prepared to contribute actively to establish a bond with their caregivers, which promotes the chances for their individual genes to survive. Since ethologists believe that behavior can be best understood in terms of one s adaptive value, a full understanding of the entire organism environment system, including physical, social, and cultural aspects is sought (Berk, 2012, p. 264). John Bowlby, who first applied this approach to the infant caregiver bond, maintained that the quality of future relationships is directly related to the quality of an infant s attachment to the caregiver (Berk, 2012, p. 265). Evaluation of Evidence Inspired by Konrad Lorenz s (1952) study of imprinting in baby geese, Bowlby believed that an infant, just like the young of most animal species, is born with built in behaviors that ensure that a parent stays close by, which improves the odds that the infant will remain safe from danger. Through these built in behaviors, a strong emotional connection develops. According to Lorenz, this strong emotional connection serves as a reference for future relationships. The two sides battled for three days until the North gained the upper hand and won the battle. Document 6 says this about the end of the battle, The Union victory at the Battle of Gettysburg, sometimes referred to as the High Water Mark of the Rebellion resulted not only in Lee s retreat for Virginia, but an end to the hopes of the confederate states of America for independence (Document 6). Native American And The American Of Native Americans The Native American population has suffered many tragedies at the hands of the United States government, from their first interactions through the mid twentieth century. Government policies concerning American Indians worked in conjunction with the prejudices harbored by the majority of the white population in the United States to suppress Native American liberties and strip them of their cultural identity. These policies gave little to no regard for Native American customs, personal expression, or the future of Native American traditions, and had profound effects on the Native American individuals and families who encountered them. The boarding school policies enacted by the United States government regarding Native Americans that were formulated to encourage the destruction of native customs and force an entire race to assimilate into white American culture ultimately led to the alienation of Native Americans from their native heritage and a loss of their personal sense of self. Several government policies were created to control the attire and language of Native Americans. Among these were targeted regulations regarding how Native American students in boarding schools were to dress, act, and speak, oftentimes against their will or traditions.
