were created for the purpose of preservation and interpretation of the material culture they exhibit, and
have been the most widely accepted method for the dissemination of information pertaining to other
cultures. That being said, there is an increasing amount of discourse today questioning the value of
museums and the ways in which their exhibition of material culture actually serves to devalue or
misrepresent their cultures of origin. For this research paper, I have decided to focus in the collections
of material culture present in the Beloit College Logan Museum of Anthropology and the Smithsonian
Museum. First, I begin by sharing what I have learned about the history surrounding the origins of
museums. Next, I identify the ways in which museums obscure and misrepresent the cultures they
display through their exhibits either intentionally or otherwise. Finally, I attempt to utilize what I have

3.1 Introduction
The Al Zn Mg series aluminium alloys (7xxx) are the heat treatable alloys and widely applied as large
structural components in navigation and transportation facilities, due to good combination of hardness,
high strength and fracture toughness [1 6]. The use of Sc (scandium) to achieve grain refinement has
recently received great attention. The microstructures and properties of aluminium alloys are strongly
affected by adding small quantities of scandium. Scandium additions in excess of 0.55wt.% (i.e.,
hypereutectic) are very effective in grain refinement, suggesting that the primary ScAl3 phase serves
as an effective grain nucleant [7 9].
The effect of a Sc addition will of course depend on the composition of the alloy. The additions of Sc
in aluminium alloy appear to reduce hot tearing and shrinkage porosity. Hot shortness increase with
increase in Zn but decrease with increase in Mg content [10, 11]. The process of precipitation in the Al
Zn Mg alloy system is quite complex. The aged structure and the kinetics of ageing depend on both
the Zn and Mg concentration and the temperatures of solution and ageing treatments. As the Sc

gentlemen, in their elegant but confined houses she was referring to the physical confinement of an
interior versus an exterior setting. This confinement of the setting mirrors the social confinement of a
woman versus a man in the societal structure at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century.
While Austen studies the societal position of women in most of her novels, her early work Sense and
Sensibility, is perhaps the most interesting to take into consideration when reviewing the issue of
confinement. In it Austen juxtaposes the freedom of the countryside exteriors with the confinement of
the city s interiors. These settings serve as a backdrop for the exploration of two female characters
whose social status has been set back as a result of the primogeniture of the time.
Austen s novels have always been lauded for their social commentary and critique. The most common
issue they depict is the dependency of women in society upon men, specifically their reliance on
marriage as a source of income. The characters of Marianne and Elinor in Sense and Sensibility are
two such characters, who due to their estate and income being inherited by their stepbrother, are left to
