Carle Van Loo The Resurrection Essay
In Carle Van Loo s 1734 painting The Resurrection, Carle paints an awesome painting of Jesus
during his ascension after the event of the Resurrection. Being the royal painter he was, Carle was
commissioned to paint numerous works and gained expertise for paintings that involved religious
figures among them were the Virgin Maryand Jesus. In this particular paintingCarle portrays both
the Resurrection and Jesus Christ in a god like manner but at the same time displays human
elements that really let people understand why Jesus is known as the King of Kings.
From an initial glance, the viewer notices that the painting is encased in a lavish golden frame. The
fancy design is representative of the religious paintings commissioned by nobles and the Catholic
Church in the Renaissance era, thus further pointing that the painting has significant importance
and meaning. As for the painting, the viewer notices that Jesus in ... Show more content on

The Resurrection accurately portrays this by having Him floating in the middle to top of top
signifying both his connection to Heaven and his hierarchical position in ruling the world. This
point is further nailed in as it is seen that an angel is on His right like his right hand man . Whilst
floating, the man on the lefts looks as if he were subdued in His presence while the man on the
right appears as if bowing in reverence to Jesus. Being born to Mary, Jesus is still a human. This
is characterized by Jesus human appearance by looking what people looked by then as a person
that had white skin with a medium build and frame. He is not portrayed as some monstrous
muscular being like Zeus. Also, in the painting, Jesus is surrounded with the warm colors of red
orange and yellow which in many works of art signify that he is is one who brings light, positivity,
and hope. Another aspect that portrays Jesus humanity is that in the painting He appears as if he is
preaching and not committing any act of

The Trends And Trends Of The 1960s
Every year, designers present a fall collection. When examining the runway shows and styles
displayed as a whole, one starts to notice multiple trends. Although the designers give people the
trends, the consumer is the deciding factor of what is or is not a trend in everyday life and not
just in the fashion world. There are many different trends, which are categorized into major and
minor trends. Three major trends and forecasts seen numerous times in fall 2014 runway shows
and magazines are plaid, 60s inspired, and fairytale inspired styles. 1960 s Inspired Trend. The
1960s are back in fashion in a huge way. One can see the inspiration from the 60s all over the
runway and retail stores. When looking at forecasts for fall 2014, Trend Council predicted 60s
inspired clothing would be in style during the fall 2014 season. They predicted the styles seen
would be elegant shift dresses, hitting about mid thigh. The shift dresswas first introduced in the
early 60s and the style immediately became popular. To consumers in the 1960 s, the shift dress
represented youth, freedom and the revolutionary spirit of American young women. Now the shift
dress is classy again with a high neck, long sleeves and neutral colors.
Miu Miu, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci are just a few of the high end designers feature 60s
inspired pieces in their collection. Valentino s show had a mod sixties aspect: the shirtcollar dresses,
the embroidered tulle gowns, and capes of all kinds in lace,

The Principles Of Homeostasis And The Contribution Of The...
This essay aims to describe the principles of homeostasis, and the contribution of the cardiovascular
system to homeostasis. Using the example of congestive heart failure (CHF), the causes and the
consequences of a homeostatic imbalance in cardiac output will be explained.
Homeostatic principles
Homeostasis can generally be defined as the condition in which the body s internal environment
remains relatively constant within physiological limits [1]. This type of equilibrium is dynamic as
the body is constantly subject to stimuli, which produce stress responses (stressors). The body s
homeostatic mechanisms therefore act to counter these stressors and return equilibrium within
narrow limits that allow the body to maintain life. A key function of every body system is
preserving a constant internal environment, which involves maintaining the volume of body fluid.
To ensure that body cells function well, homeostasis is required to regulate the composition of
extracellular fluid (ECF), for example ECF within blood vessels is blood plasma; in the brain and
spinal cord this is cerebrospinal fluid. One third of body water is in the ECF [2], which constitutes
the body s internal environment . The precise regulation of substances such as glucose, oxygen,
ions and waste such as carbon dioxide is essential to ensure that cells are subject to conditions that
are optimum for life.
The stressors that the body could be exposed to can either originate from the internal or external

Comparing Tomorrowland, Produced And Directed By Brad Bird
Introduction One idea can influence the world, but how far can that idea go if it is spread by one
person? Could an idea also present a reality better than the one humanity is accustomed to today?
The 2015 film Tomorrowland attempts to reveal the answers to these questions in the real world as
well as in an alternate dimension where humanity has a different outlook on the future.
Tomorrowland, produced and directed by Brad Bird, follows Casey and Frank. Casey is a teenager
who seems to be one of the only people in the world with the desire to find positive ways to affect
the future. Everyone around her, from her father to her teachers, are complacent towards anything
bad that can affect them. She is approached by the robot Athena, who introduces her to an alternate
version of reality called Tomorrowland, where mankind creates technologies surpassing those of the
real world by centuries. Athena explains that Casey s world is in trouble and that they must go to
Tomorrowland to save it. In order to get there, Casey and Athena need help from Frank, a
pessimistic recluse who used to live in Tomorrowland. He shows Casey one of his inventions in
his home that predicts the world will end with 100% certainty. However, when Casey refuses to
accept what Frank s machine says, the 100% chance briefly drops. This convinces Frank that Casey
might be able to save the planet from catastrophe, and takes her and Athena to Tomorrowland.
There, Casey finds out that everyone in Tomorrowland,

How the Federal Bilingual Education Act of 1968 Ended the...
The purpose of this paper is to examine how the Federal Bilingual Education Act of 1968, ended the
War on Poverty. Bilingual education is the use of more than one language to deliver curriculum
content. The bilingual education system is designed for students to become proficient in English,
and also encourage students to become bi cultural; and function in two, or more linguistic and
cultural groups. The policy expressed U.S commitment to the needs of the growing number of
children in the public schools, whose first languagewas not English. In 1968, the government passed
the Bilingual EducationAct, which required language minority students to be taught in both their
native language and English. I myself had to undergo English as a... Show more content on

Which provided federal aid to low income children with limited English speaking families. The
government believed that in order to end the War on Poverty, it would have to aid schools in
developing new and imaginative elementary and secondary school programs (Parkay, 2013). The
education gap between one generation and another would end here. However, this issue would take
far more than funding. The issue of bilingual education in our public school system is a much
debated topic in this country, and especially in this state. The Education Topic over Bilingual
Education in our School Systems Spanish speaking populace has grown tremendously in these past
decades, much of which have immigrated with Spanish as their only language. This has left the
public school system with an interesting problem; how to successfully transition Spanish speaking
students into an English environment. Public school systems have adopted an immersion
program; where students learn English and other subjects in classrooms where only English is
spoken (Parkay, 2013). Students are not necessarily aided, they are required to learn like their
peers from the teacher and ask for direction when needed in English. This program might aid some
fast learners, but students who do not adapt to English; which is a foreign language to them, are left
to learn on their own. If the student does not get the

Exile In Beowulf
The halls regaled in Old English Literature were safe havens for lords, warriors and clansmen
alike, the halls had a complex association with the self in these times. Exile was equivalent to
certain death to the Anglo Saxons; they were without protection from their lord or their clan and
were wandering without a sense of belonging.
In The Wandererthe theme of exile as a type of hell is apparent from the poet s narration of the
wanderer s internal monologue. He laments how he is forced to travel the exile s path (Crossley
Holland, line 5, pp.50) after his lords death and how he is perpetually alone without any kinsmen
by his side. He reflects upon the joy of his old hall asking, where has the horse gone? Where the
man? Where the giver ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To paraphrase Thomas Shippey in Bloom s Guides: Beowulf , mead halls are a place of
happiness and full of light; whereas monsters are creatures that have to be covered by darkness
(Shippey). Those who seek safety within the walls of the hall shall be protected for the monsters
that dwell beyond. Heaven is a place often portrayed as being bathed in light much like the halls
in Old English literature, while exile is more closely aligned with the Christian idea of hell, a
dark place void of protection and companionship. Continuing with Beowulf, characters can also
be used as modes to convey this message. The contrast between Beowulf and Grendel is almost
as opposite as the halls and exile or Heaven and Hell. Beowulf is celebrated and a great protector
of those who follow behind him, bathed in the light of the halls he spends time in. While
Grendel is exiled with only his mother for companionship and hides in the cloak of darkness,
always stalking unable to withstand the light of the halls. Stanley Baldwin touches on this idea
in his companion book, CliffsNotes; Beowulf , he describes Heorot as it is a place of light,
warmth, and joy, contrasting with Grendel s morbid swamp as well as the dark and cold of
winters in Scandinavia (Baldwin, pp.76). The idea of the hall as a sort of heaven like structure
is explored in Bede s Ecclesiastical History of the English People he talks of a sparrow flying
through a hall in a winter s storm, ...While inside, he is safe from the winter storms; but after a
few moments of comfort, he vanishes from sight into the wintery world from which he came
(Bede et al., pp.130 131). Elaborating on Bede s imagery while enclosed in the hall you are
ensured of good cheer and protection and in contrast outside you are open to the world s elements
and monsters of ill

It s recorded in the Bible that there were judges. Judges were different in the Bible compared to
judges now in the twenty first century. Judges back then were deliverers chosen by God to
deliver Israel s people from their enemies. Judges now are public officials chosen to decide cases
in a court of law. Othniel The first well known judge in the Bible was Othniel. Othniel is first
spoken about in Judges 1:13. Othniel is the son Kenaz who was the younger brother of Caleb.
Othniel married Aksah the daughter of Caleb. God called on Othniel to rescue Israel because

Visual Illusions Are A Phenomena That Arise From...
Visual illusions are a phenomena that arise from misperception of the observed object s
properties. Visual illusions allow us to study the difference between the objective reality and our
interpretation of the perceived visual stimuli or the way our brains process visual information, in
order to develop a general understanding of our visual system (Carrasco, 1986); In spite of the
relevance of this issue, general concensus is yet to be reached on the origin of such phenomena
One representation is the Muller Lyer (1889) Illusion (MLI), a geometric size illusion classically
represented by modified perception of the length of a line, influenced by arrowheads or arrowtails
on its endpoints (Zeman et al, 2014). The MLI has been widely used attempting to explain the
underlying mechanism behind geometrical illusions; Gregory (1966) attributed the illusion to the
misapplied size constancy scaling influenced by depth cues; Carrasco (1986), argued that visual
channels are orientation and spatial frequency specific after presenting the MLI to eight participants
and observing a reduction on the illusion after exposure to a low spatial frequency grid. Although
evidence questioning this claim has been presented in many studies (Carlson, Moeller, Anderson,
1984) (GarcГa Garibay De Lafuente, 2015) (Zeman et al, 2014) (Zeman A. , Obst, Brooks, Rich,
2013) where the illusion persists in images absent of low spatial frequencies and has been assessed
with the latest technology.

Airport Environmental Impact And Legislation
Airport Environmental Impact and Legislation
Overview
Airports impact their local communities in a wide variety of ways. As an employer, large,
international airports can help local economies thrive financially with employment opportunities for
area residents. Even smaller municipal airports give back to the local community in the form of tax
revenue from fuel sales, airplane property taxes, and in the case of land lease arrangements, hangar
property taxes. Further, airports can (and typically do) impact the environment around them.
Airport operators are mandated by federal and state guidelines on areas such as erosion mitigation,
pollution prevention, and to fuel spill prevention, and are bound even further to protect the local
ecology and reduce the impact on wildlife, flora, and endangered species (Horonjeff, 2010).
Airports must be prepared to respond to any potential environmental disaster. This is accomplished
through action plans developed at the state and local levels, such as a Stormwater Pollution
Prevention and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures Plans.
Environmental Impact
There are significant rules and regulations placed on airports that deal with the environment. One
widely referred to document is Federal Aviation Administration Order 5050.4B, National
Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Implementing Instructions for Airport Projects (DOT, 2006).
Procedures contained within this instruction are mandatory, and airport operators are legally

Essay about Interracial Marriage
Interracial marriage also known as mixed marriage, miscegenation, exogamy, and multiracial, is a
marriage between members of different races. It was just 44 years ago that interracial marriage
was made fully legal throughout the United States, and it is becoming more common for members
to marry outside of ones own race. The growth of interracial marriages in the United States
corresponds with changes in the legal status of interracial marriages and what some would consider,
little, but some changing of arrogance among Americans towards persons in interracial
relationships. Recent increases in interracial unions with Whites presumably reflect positive
changes in American race relations as well as the blurring of racial boundaries and... Show more

The causes of interracial couple conflicts are stemmed from many sources. One source in which
conflicts arise comes from members of society. The views on non Blacks and Blacks interracial
marriage is frowned upon. Although interracial marriage is more common members of society
are not fully in agreement with these mixed unions and there are opposing views on the idea of
society acceptance of this union. For example, in the article by Batson et al. research findings
examined explanations that social relationships and arrogance in American society intensely
suggest a strong Black and non Black racial gap. The implication for Blacks in American society
is that interracial marriages with Whites will continue to be less common than they are for other
non Black racial minorities (2006). Discrimination against interracial couples doesn t just end
there, discrimination occurs at restaurants and other public areas, people stare as if they had just
seen a ghost. Sixty four percent of African American and Caucasian interracial couples experience
undesirable public reaction. This negative response can be moderately minor, such as stares, but
can also take the form of derogatory jokes and comments, and subpar services (Leslie Letiecq,
2004).
Indeed, American society may contribute to the conflicts of interracial couples relationship and or
marriage, but

What Is My Commitment Essay
My Commitment
The best day of my life was the day that I became a dad. Becoming a dad taught me so much.
Most importantly it taught me how to be committed to someone and an idea that you don t even
know. I remember when my girlfriend told me that she was pregnant. Although we had been
seeing each other for a while and not practicing safe sex, the idea of her carrying my child
shocked me. She called me up on a Thursday and asked me to come over her place because she
wanted to show me something. I had no idea what this something was. My girlfriend Natalie was
always up to something and my best guess was that she was going to show me these new pair of
shoes that she got on sale. When I arrived at her apartment, she had a different look on her face.

I was speaking and in a shaky voice I said, How did this happen? Did you do this on purpose? She
looked at me and I could tell that she was disappointed in me but I also knew that she was mad.
She stood there shaking her head. Then she started walking back and forth. I knew then that not
only was she mad but she was angry. She put her head down to stare at the ground for a moment
and when she lifted her head up she pierced her eyes at mine and she said, How the hell do you
think this happened? We had sex and you didn t use a condom and I didn t make you. Are you
that stupid that you don t know how babies are made? And no stupid, I didn t do this on purpose!

I Was Born On A Rainy Day
I was born on a rainy day on April 29, 1996 to a young and good looking Mexican couple, in a
hospital in busy Downtown Los Angeles. I grew up in a small cul de sac located in East Los
Angeles and lived in a newly constructed two story, three bedroom home. The house was one
block away from the local park, which was visible from my bedroom. At the age of five I moved
from my home in East Los Angeles to South Gate which was located south of Los Angeles.
When I turned five years old I moved to a new home, I realized the house was in a peaceful,
clean, and crimeless area than where I used to live, but the house was an old looking house that
was built in the 1950s. The house wasn t a two story house but just one floor. Inside of the home
was full of old and dirty carpet, the carpet was extended to all the rooms and some of the carpet
had mold like stains on it. There were only two rooms inside and I was forced to share a
bedroom with my parents. The backyard of the home was full of dirt, lizards, cockroaches, and
other insects. Overall, the home was worse than the one we used to own but it was located in a
wonderful neighborhood full of delightful neighbors, a lot of trees and peace. The first day in
our new home was a disaster. Cockroaches came out of the walls, toilet, through doors, and
electrical sockets. The second day I asked my parents why we moved from a nice house to a
horrible house, my mom then turned to me with a big smile and told me, it s for the best, trust me. I

Writing Techniques of Emily Dickinson Essay
Emily Dickinson is one of the most interesting female poets of the nineteenth century. Every author
has unique characteristics about him/her that make one poet different from another, but what cause
Emily Dickinson to be so unique are not only the words she writes, but how she writes them. Her
style of writing is in a category of its own. To understand how and why she writes the way she does,
her background has to be brought into perspective. Every poet has inspiration, negative or positive,
that contributes not only to the content of the writing itself, but the actual form of writing the
author uses to express his/her personal talents. Emily Dickinsonis no different. Her childhood and
adult experiences and culture form... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The controversy surrounding Emily Dickinson is her odd lifestyle and her tendencies to be
somewhat of a recluse. She is sometimes considered abnormal because she does things
differently from most others. She spends much of her life dressed in white and withdrawn from
much of society. Of course, her peers take this negatively, but what they do not understand is
that her being so private is more of a meditation to her, instead of a hiding. She just wants to
escape the pressures she feels are normally required of women. She does not want to be a servant
to sick and elderly. She feels she has more potential for her mind to grow, and those obligations
would just be hindrances to her writing (McQuade 1255). Her childhood and her staying out of
society as an adult, along with many other aspects known and not known, influence her poems and
the style in which she goes about writing the works. Her techniques of writing are completely
different from any other writer, whether prose or poetry. Dickinson composes her phrases by
marking them off with a dash, placing a space before and after. This small maneuver places more
emphasis on her impress of the mind in its analysis of experience (McQuade 1256). Her slant
thymes and unique form of expression produces more of an oddness to the audience.
One of Emily Dickinson s unique forms of writing is her excessive use

darkness in the painting. The left corners are darker or shadowed, sky of the painting is black and

Performance Enhancements In Sports Research Paper
Forms of performance enhancement have been filling the world of athletics since the beginning of
time. Humans, driven by their natural competitive instinct, have always craved the thrill of
winning. Morals become questioned, abilities become enhanced, records begin to be set and all
athletes want is more. Many believe that the severity of performance enhancing drugs in the world
of athletics is a fairly new concept. What they don t realize is that even as far back as 100 AD the
Roman Gladiators were finding different stimulants and hallucinogens to prevent fatigue and injury.
In fact, performance enhancements are not limited to just the humanathletes in competition either.
During the times of the incredible gladiators, they would feed trusted steeds a substance called
hydromel; an alcoholic beverage made from honey that would make them run even faster than
before. There s never been a time that gaining that extra edge hasn t been on the mind of our
beloved competitors.
It s no secret, people love a good show. For thousands of years people from near and far would
gather to watch incredible athletes exhibit their super human abilities. But why, as spectators, do we
find such entertainment in watching muscle ridden hulks of men throw around extreme amounts of
weight? Or why do we enjoy watching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Many believe that the easiest way to fulfil the life long dream that so many of us possess to

Morrison Distortion
Morrison captivates the audience and communicates the enduring effects of slavery on the African
American community through the distortion of time through the constantly changing setting.
Throughout the novel, Morrison constantly changes the setting and alters the natural order of
time. When Paul D first arrives at 124, Sethe says to Paul D, You can t leave right away Paul D.
(Morrison 8) Reminding Sethe of the past, Paul D replies, Well, long enough to see Baby Suggs,

In the beginning of the novel, Beloved is a character that appears one day resting on a tree trunk
and is seemingly without a backstory. It becomes apparent that Beloved is in fact the spirit of
one of Sethe s dead children because Morrison writes, But once Sethe had seen the scar...Sethe
played all the harder with Beloved, who never got enough of anything: lullabies, new stitches,
the bottom of the cake bowl... (Morrison 282). Sethe realizes that Beloved is the reincarnation
of daughter because the scar that Beloved has is the result of Sethe killing her children.
Furthermore, Sethe spoils Beloved with as much motherly love as possible in order to make up
for killing her. Therefore, Beloved personifies the past because she is the literal embodiment of
Sethe s daughter s spirit coming to life. However, not only does Beloved embody the spirit of
Sethe s dead child Beloved also embodies the psychological trauma of Sethe s past because if it
were not for slavery then Sethe would not have to kill her child and experience the vengeful spirit
known as Beloved. Therefore, Beloved is a constant reminder to Sethe of Sweet Home s atrocities.
Morrison uses the revival of the past through Beloved in order to comment on the enduring effects
of slavery because Morrison suggests that those who have been affected by slavery will forever be
haunted by their captivity. Furthermore, this

Descriptive Essay On A Perfect Storm
A Perfect Storm
The dark clouds churned and twisted. Water droplets and needle like ice pellets bombarded down
on me from above. The downpour made it impossible to see even a mere five feet in front of your
face. I started to lose my footing on the slick, slippery grass.
It was a warm, fresh morning. A light breeze ruffled bright green leaves in the trees. There was not
a cloud in the sky. It was the perfect summer day. I rode my bike over to Matthew Lange s house.
We found ourselves in his garage messing with his airsoft guns. We grabbed them and went
around the neighborhood looking for Cal and Will to have a war. We found them over at Izzy s
house prank calling people from her garage phone. We called a couple people of our own and
decided to quit after asking Apple Roofing if they could come put apples on my roof.
We should get more guys and some more guns and have a war , Will suggested. Cal, Matthew,
Will, and I rode around on our bikes around until we found some other neighborhood kids who
had airsoft guns. A couple people wanted eye protection so I rode home and grabbed some
sunglasses. We were all set for war when it started to sprinkle a bit. Nothing that could stop us
from being outside, but it should have been a warning of what there was to come.
We continued to play as the sky was getting darker and darker. The sprinkle turned to a drizzle, and
the drizzle turned to a rain. The rain cut off suddenly, surprising everyone. We took it

Sexting Among Teenage Girls and Boys
Over the last few years, there has been a lot of discussion and debate over the topic of sexting. It
has become a widespread phenomenon, the number of teenage girls and boys, men and women
who participate are rapidly increasing, and with this too comes the rise of moral panic within
societies. Individuals within the communities are becoming more and more fearful, afraid and
shocked at this new form of youth culture hysteria. Although young people expressing their
sexuality has become much more open and free as of the last decade or so, the real uproar of
panic is due to the risks they involving themselves in as well as the damage and harm they are

And this is what is key to the moral panic of sexting, constant over exaggeration. As stated before
the technology and means to sext have always been available, so why now is there such anxiety
and fear towards sexting? A reason as to why this may be so, is because of the number of teens
who have committed suicide over leaked sexts. One of the most infamous cases of suicide
related to this issue is of 18 year old Jesse Logan who was mercilessly harassed at the hands of
her peers. She was dating a 19 year old boy and had sent him nude pictures of herself. However
after they broke up, he sent those photos to another girl who then sent them to others and soon
the whole school knew about it and had seen the photos. From there is where the severe bullying
started. On the Today show Jesse s friend, Lauren Taylor told NBC News about some of the
abuse which was inflicted upon Jessie Logan. She says When she would come to school, she
would always hear, Oh, that s the girl who sent the picture. She s just a whore . Her mother
Cynthia Logan said that She was being attacked and tortured . Even through the bullying Jesse
Logan made the decision to appear on a tv station to tell her story and make sure no one else
makes the same mistake. After enduring further harassment and abuse, Jesse was finally able to
graduate and looked to move on with her life. But after attending the funeral of one of her friends

Early Christian Teachings
It s no question that Jesus played the biggest part in the forming of Christianity. The question is
how much of Christianity is based off of his teachings? For starters, there are a lot of his teachings
that are not used in modern day. Christianity is built off of a whole lot. Namely the Pharisee
tradition of Judaism and all that comes with it (the old testament, the concept of heaven/hell, the
resurrection, the devil, etc). Furthermore, Christianityis not based solely off of the teachings of Jesus
per say, rather it is based off of the story. Namely the crucifixion and resurrection. As far as how we
should live, we get a lot of that from Jesus, Paul, John, Peter, and the early church. Unfortunately,
denominations, churches, and theologies tend to give principals and rules rather than equip the
average believer to actually walk with and know God. As far as doctrines such as the trinity, and
general Christology we get this very much from the early Church. So ultimately you have the Old
Testament through the lens of the Pharisee s, the life of Christ, the teachings and histories in the
new testament, and then the doctrines found to be truth by the early Christians.... Show more content

The Lunar Effect Has Been A Controversy For Millions Of Years
The lunar effect has been a controversy for millions of years. In fact, no celestial object has
inspired more myth and legend than the full moon (Newton). This shows how the lunar effect has
been very controversial. Some reasons that cause the controversy of the lunar effect are the over
reliance of anecdotes instead of scientific evidence, as well as the exaggeration of the media, and
the general publics inability to define the lunar effect. All of these reasons cause the controversy of
the lunar effect to exist.
There has been many anecdotes involving the lunar effect. A huge amount of anecdotes involve
crimes that took place on the night of the full moon. For example, a dispatcher said that six years
ago on the night of the full moon, he responded to a report of a fight at a hotel saying that one of
the men looked like the comic book character of wolverine ( Alkofer,2016 ). A different
dispatcher also had a story involving a crime that took place on a night with a full moon. The
dispatcher talked about how he s been on the job for only two months, and how he had to
respond to a call about a sixty nine year old woman who was brandishing a shotgun under the
night of a full moon (Alkofer,2016). As you can see there are a lot of anecdotes that involve
people being mentally affected by the full moon, however there are even more stories that involve
animals. For instance, a woman that worked at a veterinary hospital saw four cats come in with

rights and human liberties granted to citizens of the U.S. by the Bill of Rights to African
Americans, immigrants, Roman Catholics, Jews, socialists, communists, and anyone else who
went against its beliefs or interfered in its work.
The Klan was first established in Pulaski, Tennessee in May 1866 by Nathan Forrest, just two years
after the end of the Civil War. Some white southerners, however, were still fighting the war and felt
they would be until their death. Forrest was the Klan s first Imperial Wizard , and the Klan quickly

Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia, where Klan support and membership were highest, were
governed by completely white governments. With its objective achieved and the passing of the Ku
Klux Act in 1871, the Klan virtually disappeared, but only temporarily.
With the outbreak of World War I and the constant fear of a communist revolution, the Klan was

Things were ... intriguing in those days. In the first place, what is a cell phone? Turns out, the
real definition, regardless of the source, is very ambiguous. Merriam Webster compactly calls a
cell phone a PDA that incorporates extra programming capacities (as email or an Internet

Similarities Between King Lear And The Great Gatsby
Despite the fact that the power of passion is heightened in King Lear and The Great Gatsby with

Despite common belief, America s forests are not being destroyed to satisfy a large demand for

the United States has increased by 13 Million acres since 1987. Before 1987, the national forest
area had been declining since settlers landed in the new world.. During this extensive period,
forests were decimated and any business associated with forestry gained a stigma. This stigma

trend was reversed. The reversal of deforestation has been attributed, in part, to paper mills and
other paper production facilities largely contributing to the roughly 1.8 million acres of trees
planted every year. The forests of America are growing once again. The sustainable practices
adopted by those who produce paper has helped to make it an even more practical and eco friendly
product despite a lingering stigma.

Many of the themes and doctrines of this belief fit well into the values of young academics,

layman found disagreeable. Adding Gnostic text to the canonical Bible complicated the New

time where most of the population was illiterate would be exclusionary and inaccessible. The main
reason, however, that the early Christianity we all now know and love survived over Gnosticism is
that Gnosticism is individualistic, while Orthodox Christianity is more community centric. In
ancient times as well as modern, it is easier to survive while working with a group, for the good of

I a failure, a woman who cannot even bear a child. (Markandaya 50), reflecting the view society
has of her, as a woman. This is not only a violation of basic human kindness, but also a cause of
further financial problems as Ira herself counts as one more mouth to feed during a time of great
struggle; When she eventually is able to have a child, that adds

Human Consciousness
Before one can establish a morally permissible approach to creating an artificial human like
intelligence, the origin of human consciousness must be determined in order to find a viable
method of recreation. It would then become evident that problem of morality in conscious
machines lies not in the method of its construction, as it is the necessary means to an end, but the
act of creation itself as well as the upbringing of the machine comparable to that of a human being.
Prior to the development of consciousness, according to Julian Jaynes, was the structure known as
the bicameral mind. He argued that the cognitive function of a human being was vastly different
before the end of the second millennium bc: the right hemisphere was responsible ... Show more

This leaves people with a practical limitation: what we call consciousness would have to derive
from within the human cognitive functions. Arthur Koestler has boiled the process of creation
down to a mechanical system he termed bisociation , in which two previously unrelated matrices
of experience are combined, and a new understanding of a situation is established. As
Archimedes cried eureka, the common occurrence of the water rising was combined with the
problem he was tasked to solve, and so came the solution of the displacement of water should be
of equal volume as the crown. What Koestler hadn t expected, however, is the ubiquitous nature
far beyond what he proposed. At birth, the human brain knows only the basic biological instincts
necessary for survival. But as it grows, new knowledge and experiences are accumulated to form a
fundamental baseline for the bisociation process. Considering the variables involved in even the
simplest of real life circumstances, it is unrealistic to expect any one portion of the baseline to
resemble the situation exactly. This baseline, therefore, can only define a standardized version of
situations and the appropriate reactions associated with it. The process of bisociation is then
necessary for the improvisation of a response in accordance. Unlike Jaynes theory that

The Native American Indian Movement
In today s day and age, equality, freedom, and rights for all are topics that are constantly being
brought up in politics and everyday life. However, these are not new ideas. In fact, throughout
history, people have been fighting for their freedom, equality, rights, and fighting against the
degeneration their cultures and beliefs. In the case of the Native Americans, they were abused and
exploited for millennia only to benefit people of higher power. Similar to other oppressed groups,
there became a time when the American Indians began to stand for who they are and commenced
fighting for the demolition of injustice. Because of the increasing need for a voice, members of the
Native American communities band together to create the American Indian Movement(AIM).
The initiation of AIM lead to a spur of American Indian non violent protests, which began the
fundamental transformation of society. The American Indian Movement was formally founded in
July 1968. However the group existed unnamed for 500 years prior to the founding. In 1999, 30
years after their creation, the group published a paper discussing the history of AIM and the
methods behind their cause. The movement was founded to turn the attention of Indian people
toward a renewal of spirituality which would impart the strength of resolve needed to reverse the
ruinous policies of the United States, Canada, and other colonialist governments of Central and
South America. For the group, spirituality and native

Alfred Charles Kinsey
Alfred Charles Kinsey vs. Historian Dagmar Herzog
Alfred Charles Kinsey altered the way in which people of the twentieth century understood
homosexuality. Kinsey s findings created a great deal of discussion and controversy that became an
enduring part of American culture. Historian Dagmar Herzog s work The Reception of the Kinsey
Reports in Europe observed European and American reactions to both volumes of Kinsey s
work. Alfred Charles Kinsey s work supports and challenges Historian Dagmar Herzog s findings.
Alfred Charles Kinsey s work supports Historian Dagmar Herzog s findings on European activists
views over the Kinsey Scale. However, Alfred Charles Kinsey s work also challenges Historian
Dagmar Herzog s findings on Europeans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scale ranged from zero, for exclusively heterosexual with no experience with or desire for
sexual activity with their same sex, to six, for exclusively homosexual with no experience with or
desire for sexual activity with those of the opposite sex, and one through five for varying levels of
desire or sexual activity with either sex ( The Kinsey Institute Kinsey Sexuality Rating Scale, n.d.).
The Kinsey Scale made homosexual behavior, not only more common, but also less pathological.
Alfred Charles Kinsey s work supports Historian Dagmar Herzog s findings by comparing
Europeans reactions to Kinsey s research on homosexuality. With Americans reactions Kinsey s
research had a profound effect on the gay subculture in the United States ( The Kinsey Institute
Kinsey Sexuality Rating Scale, n.d.). However, it also impacted homosexuals in other parts of the
world. Historian Dagmar Herzog argues that activists for homosexual rights in France and West
Germany were thrilled by Kinsey s research that showed heterosexual and homosexual behaviors as
being on a continuum rather than as a dichotomy between gay and straight (Herzog, 2006). This is
ultimately due to the fact that in West Germany homosexuality was still illegal and in

Character Analysis Of Miss Maudie In To Kill A...
Miss Maudie For The first time in all these years that I have lived here I finally saw snow in
Maycomb. We all experiences our first winter of Maycomb since 1885. Sitting in my rocking
chair in front of my front window I watch as Jem and Scout take snow from my yard to their own
yard.Since there wasn t a lot of snow it looked like they built a small figure out of snow with
snow covering it. Seems as though they made it look like Mr. Avery, who is an unpleasant man
who lives down the street. It seems as though Atticus doesn t like that they made it look like Mr.
Avery so he told them to disguise it. So, jem takes my sunhat and puts it on it s head and sticks her
hedge clippers in it hands, much to their dislike. During the night my house

Analysis And Implications Of Isolated Worlds
I.Further analysis and implications of isolated worlds One of the fundamental tenants of this
view is that these possible worlds must not engage with one another in any way. In order to be
fully isolated, the occurrence of something in one world does not and cannot influence what
goes on in any other world. Lewis goes on to say that an infinite number of such worlds exists.
This is because there is an infinite number of possibilities for how one part of a world could
possibly be. Lewis includes possible worlds that do not obey our rules of nature, ones in which
no life exists. For each of these ways that a world or a part of a world could possibly be, there
absolutely exists another world that is in fact that way (Plurality of Worlds 209, 222). Lewis
refers to this as plentitude. All of these different worlds, including our own, are the same kind of
thing, making one no more real than any other. The view holds that this world does not differ from
others in its manner of existing. Thus the actual world, for Lewis, is just wherever here is. For us,
the actual world is our universe. However, someone in another world can say that the same
statement referring to a different universe (their universe) and the statement would hold true in both
cases. At this point, it seems natural to object that Lewis view is nonsensical. How can it be true
that both this universe and some other universe are the actual world? Lewis responds with the
claim that our notion of actuality is

Marge Piercy s Barbie Doll
Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy is a poem that highlights the difficulties that young girls, adolescents,
and woman are confronted by society. There are many interpretations of the ending of the poem.
Two of which are suicide and plastic surgery. Most people believe the child committed suicide
because of the intense pressure of trying to be the perfect image like the Barbie doll. Although the
poem has a depressing tone, the poem itself brings out legitimate points.
Barbie has been the icon for more than fifty years for all woman. At the beginning of the poem, the
unnamed girl has obtained modern toys and seems to be happy during her childhood. The girl is
given dolls, miniature home appliances, and fake makeup. During the childhood years, most

Ride-Sharing Controversy
In recent months, there has been controversy surrounding the fairly new and popular concept of
ride sharing companies . Primarily, ride sharing companies are online based networks that
connect passengers with drivers that use their personal vehicles through a mobile platform. Some
of the most popular ride sharing companies include the well known Uber, Lyft, and Wingz s. The
packleader of them all, Uber, has recently been challenged by the government, taxi companies,
and their own drivers over legal matters. They have been accused of bending around labor laws
and disregarding regulations around transportation for hire industry in many of the large US cities
where they are present. In mid 2015, Uber has been involved in at least 173 different... Show more

Ridesharing companies claims that with their programs such as Uberpool and Lyft Line, it can
actually be beneficial for the environment. As the name implies, Uberpool is a carpooling method
based on splitting fares with people going to the same place as you. It s environmentally efficient
by having less cars on the road because it reduces single rider fares, resulting in less harmfull
emissions (Uber). According to Amanda Eaken, a director of transportation and climate at the
National Resource Defense Council, 40 percent of emissions in California is from transportation.
Additionally, along with the main ideas from A Struggle to Govern the Commons, more emissions
raise the atmospheric concentrations of CO2, a known greenhouse gas that contributes to climate
change. So with this, UberPool and Lyft Line may actually make an effect on helping the
environment. However there are limitations to this, it is not currently based by any research, just a
theoretical hypothesis. Fortunately, some scientific research is on the way. Eaken, along with
Professor Susan Shaheen from UC Berkeley s Transportation Sustainability Research Center, is
creating a scientific study on the true environmental effects of ridesharing companies. They will
compile research from data directly from the

Synthesis Of T-Pentyl Chloride Lab Report
Introduction: The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize t pentyl chloride from the reaction
of t pentyl alcohol and concentrated HCl. This reaction occurred through an SN1 reaction, a
unimolecular nucleophilic substitution reaction. This was a First Order Rate Reaction where the
rate of t pentyl chloride was dependent only on the concentration of t pentyl alcohol. After the
reaction was completed, the products were achieved via 3 liquid liquid extractions and then after by
simple distillation. In the liquid liquid extractions a solute was transferred from one solvent to
another. Then in the simple distillation the miscible liquids or the solution, was separated by
differences in boiling points. After this the product was determined through infrared spectroscopy.
Procedure: Isolation of Crude Product A mixture of 22 ml... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the process, extraction and distillation techniques were used. The theoretical amount of t pentyl
chloride was 17.358g, while 15.78 g was the actual amount produced which gave a percent yield
of 90.9%. An error occurred while performing the experiment, the filtered dried product in the
distillation process was placed in the wrong flask. Due to this that part of the experiment had to be
redone and the new filtered product had some aqueous solution in it, which caused the boiling point
to be under the specified temperature. The boiling point then was at 50 в„ѓ compared with the
expected range of 79 84 в„ѓ. The IR spectrum used above was from another group s results. The
experimental IR spectrum has more prominent peaks in the 3000 cm 1 range compared to the
expected IR spectrum. Nonetheless, the experimental IR spectrum resembles the expected IR
spectrum in the sense that the peaks are closely around the same wavenumber range. This is
probably due to the product being distilled at the right boiling

Rhetorical Analysis Of Trump s Inaugural Address
When a president makes his inauguration speech, it usually talks about what is going on with the
country, and illustrates what will be done to fix it. Compared to his predecessors, Trump s speech
was much shorter. I am convinced that he thought that he best thing to do was play it safe in the
speech to save himself from all the criticism that he could. This did not however work out in his
favor for the reason that he might have said more about his presidency by saying less. Trump
opened his speech, not talking about what previous presidents accomplished, instead just
acknowledged and thanked them. It is a very simple and safe introduction to a speech that will
continue this theme. Then it goes on to talk about the transfer of power to the... Show more content

racist since Trump was doing it. Now they know that no matter the color of the skin, an American
is an American and should be treated with the same amount of respect as any other. He finished
the speech with a rally of chants that are similar to his slogan Make America Great Again. It made
people excited and pumped up but did not have a very impactful meaning overall. The ending
summed up the speech in that there was not much actual information on how problems would be
fixed, just a great deal of lines to make the crowd excited and believe that everything would be

Alexander II And The Russian Revolution
In the 1800 s Russia was facing a very difficult time. Russia s recent defeat in the Crimean war
was a wake up call to the autocracy. This defeat proved to the autocracy that Russia had fallen
dangerously behind their western neighbors, ultimately making it easy for other countries to
attach and invade. At that point, Russia knew it was time for a change and it started with Tsar
Alexander II. Alexander II took over as emperor due to his fathers (Nicholas I) death in St.
Petersburg. Some say the reason for Russia s backward spiral was because of him. However, in
1855 the reign of Alexander II in Russia began and during his time he directed a period of
political and social reforms. Some of the reforms Alexander II thought had to be changed
included: education, military, government, and judicial. Even after trying to make multiple
changes and reforms to better the government, someone was still not clicking in the Russian
government. The main reason the society had so many problems dealt with the peasants. As
many soviet historians have claimed, these reforms were put in place to pacify the peasantry in
order to ward off revolution. During this time the peasants had to work on their lord owners land
and didn t have many other options. While under the new Tsar Alexander II the government ran
into a dry wall and needed a way out. Alexander II did something that to this day goes down as two
perspectives. The first one can be seen as a charter of freedom

Summary Of Autumn Poem
That life flows on and the operation in the natural order continues is stressed here. The fame of
poppies that drowses the harvester and the twined flowers that offer a resistance to the say the
cause a brief pause in time. This eagerness to prolong the moment of happiness the ode stanza,
extended to eleven lines, is give en a more prolonged effect and is also shared by autumnwho
watches the last oozing hours by hours she is in time and bears the full load of agony inherent in
process, but she is also above time watching the ceaseless and yet unhurried movement on the
temporal plane. The first stanza is set in the morning hours, the second stanza is set in the
drowsy midday and the sun s diurnal course is completed in the final stanza. The last two lines
of second stanza convey the audible juicy noise of the sibilants which is very strong one and is
presented not simply with a visual image of the last oozing, but an audible one also. At the same
when this celebration of joys of autumn is taking place, we find in the ode indirect images of
ageing. The sun is maturing it is growing older, and so is autumn itself, as in the close bosom
friend of sun only. There is an ambivalent note in the phase set budding more and still more
apparent in the phrase, reference to the bees until they think warm days will never cease. For
summer has over brimmid their clammy cells . The last verse moves to a different kind of
conclusion and it arises more organically from the

The Methods Of Forced Induction
Superchargers and turbochargers both are methods of forced induction. Forced induction is
delivering compressed air to the engine. The reason for forced induction is simple more air means
to more power. When the engine is using the compressed air, it is called boost. Superchargers and
turbochargers are the two common types of forced induction. A superchargeris driven by a belt like
an alternator. A turbochargeris driven by the flow of exhaust. The debate of which is better is one
of the most talked about debate and there is no right or wrong answer. There are pros and cons
that make it imposable to say one is better. There may be one that is better for your use.
Turbochargers are bolted on the exhaust headers using exhaust gasses to spin and spool an
impellor in the turbo. This is efficiently using energy that would have been wasted. When the one
impellor is being spun by the exhaust the other is sucks air in the engine making boost. Since the
turbo is powered by the exhaust a lot of heat is made. You do not want that to go through your
engine because this could cause the engine to overheat. To prevent overheating problems an
intercooler is installed. The air travels through the intercooler during the proses the air is cooled.
One limitation of turbo is turbo lag, because the turbo is driven by the exhaust it takes some time
for the impellor to spool, but once it is spooled you can get full boost quickly. The advancements in
turbochargers have made turbo a lot better

  • 2. Carle Van Loo The Resurrection Essay In Carle Van Loo s 1734 painting The Resurrection, Carle paints an awesome painting of Jesus during his ascension after the event of the Resurrection. Being the royal painter he was, Carle was commissioned to paint numerous works and gained expertise for paintings that involved religious figures among them were the Virgin Maryand Jesus. In this particular paintingCarle portrays both the Resurrection and Jesus Christ in a god like manner but at the same time displays human elements that really let people understand why Jesus is known as the King of Kings. From an initial glance, the viewer notices that the painting is encased in a lavish golden frame. The fancy design is representative of the religious paintings commissioned by nobles and the Catholic Church in the Renaissance era, thus further pointing that the painting has significant importance and meaning. As for the painting, the viewer notices that Jesus in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Resurrection accurately portrays this by having Him floating in the middle to top of top signifying both his connection to Heaven and his hierarchical position in ruling the world. This point is further nailed in as it is seen that an angel is on His right like his right hand man . Whilst floating, the man on the lefts looks as if he were subdued in His presence while the man on the right appears as if bowing in reverence to Jesus. Being born to Mary, Jesus is still a human. This is characterized by Jesus human appearance by looking what people looked by then as a person that had white skin with a medium build and frame. He is not portrayed as some monstrous muscular being like Zeus. Also, in the painting, Jesus is surrounded with the warm colors of red orange and yellow which in many works of art signify that he is is one who brings light, positivity, and hope. Another aspect that portrays Jesus humanity is that in the painting He appears as if he is preaching and not committing any act of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Trends And Trends Of The 1960s Every year, designers present a fall collection. When examining the runway shows and styles displayed as a whole, one starts to notice multiple trends. Although the designers give people the trends, the consumer is the deciding factor of what is or is not a trend in everyday life and not just in the fashion world. There are many different trends, which are categorized into major and minor trends. Three major trends and forecasts seen numerous times in fall 2014 runway shows and magazines are plaid, 60s inspired, and fairytale inspired styles. 1960 s Inspired Trend. The 1960s are back in fashion in a huge way. One can see the inspiration from the 60s all over the runway and retail stores. When looking at forecasts for fall 2014, Trend Council predicted 60s inspired clothing would be in style during the fall 2014 season. They predicted the styles seen would be elegant shift dresses, hitting about mid thigh. The shift dresswas first introduced in the early 60s and the style immediately became popular. To consumers in the 1960 s, the shift dress represented youth, freedom and the revolutionary spirit of American young women. Now the shift dress is classy again with a high neck, long sleeves and neutral colors. Miu Miu, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci are just a few of the high end designers feature 60s inspired pieces in their collection. Valentino s show had a mod sixties aspect: the shirtcollar dresses, the embroidered tulle gowns, and capes of all kinds in lace, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Principles Of Homeostasis And The Contribution Of The... This essay aims to describe the principles of homeostasis, and the contribution of the cardiovascular system to homeostasis. Using the example of congestive heart failure (CHF), the causes and the consequences of a homeostatic imbalance in cardiac output will be explained. Homeostatic principles Homeostasis can generally be defined as the condition in which the body s internal environment remains relatively constant within physiological limits [1]. This type of equilibrium is dynamic as the body is constantly subject to stimuli, which produce stress responses (stressors). The body s homeostatic mechanisms therefore act to counter these stressors and return equilibrium within narrow limits that allow the body to maintain life. A key function of every body system is preserving a constant internal environment, which involves maintaining the volume of body fluid. To ensure that body cells function well, homeostasis is required to regulate the composition of extracellular fluid (ECF), for example ECF within blood vessels is blood plasma; in the brain and spinal cord this is cerebrospinal fluid. One third of body water is in the ECF [2], which constitutes the body s internal environment . The precise regulation of substances such as glucose, oxygen, ions and waste such as carbon dioxide is essential to ensure that cells are subject to conditions that are optimum for life. The stressors that the body could be exposed to can either originate from the internal or external ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing Tomorrowland, Produced And Directed By Brad Bird Introduction One idea can influence the world, but how far can that idea go if it is spread by one person? Could an idea also present a reality better than the one humanity is accustomed to today? The 2015 film Tomorrowland attempts to reveal the answers to these questions in the real world as well as in an alternate dimension where humanity has a different outlook on the future. Tomorrowland, produced and directed by Brad Bird, follows Casey and Frank. Casey is a teenager who seems to be one of the only people in the world with the desire to find positive ways to affect the future. Everyone around her, from her father to her teachers, are complacent towards anything bad that can affect them. She is approached by the robot Athena, who introduces her to an alternate version of reality called Tomorrowland, where mankind creates technologies surpassing those of the real world by centuries. Athena explains that Casey s world is in trouble and that they must go to Tomorrowland to save it. In order to get there, Casey and Athena need help from Frank, a pessimistic recluse who used to live in Tomorrowland. He shows Casey one of his inventions in his home that predicts the world will end with 100% certainty. However, when Casey refuses to accept what Frank s machine says, the 100% chance briefly drops. This convinces Frank that Casey might be able to save the planet from catastrophe, and takes her and Athena to Tomorrowland. There, Casey finds out that everyone in Tomorrowland, ... • 6. How the Federal Bilingual Education Act of 1968 Ended the... The purpose of this paper is to examine how the Federal Bilingual Education Act of 1968, ended the War on Poverty. Bilingual education is the use of more than one language to deliver curriculum content. The bilingual education system is designed for students to become proficient in English, and also encourage students to become bi cultural; and function in two, or more linguistic and cultural groups. The policy expressed U.S commitment to the needs of the growing number of children in the public schools, whose first languagewas not English. In 1968, the government passed the Bilingual EducationAct, which required language minority students to be taught in both their native language and English. I myself had to undergo English as a... The government believed that in order to end the War on Poverty, it would have to aid schools in developing new and imaginative elementary and secondary school programs (Parkay, 2013). The education gap between one generation and another would end here. However, this issue would take far more than funding. The issue of bilingual education in our public school system is a much debated topic in this country, and especially in this state. The Education Topic over Bilingual Education in our School Systems Spanish speaking populace has grown tremendously in these past decades, much of which have immigrated with Spanish as their only language. This has left the public school system with an interesting problem; how to successfully transition Spanish speaking students into an English environment. Public school systems have adopted an immersion program; where students learn English and other subjects in classrooms where only English is spoken (Parkay, 2013). Students are not necessarily aided, they are required to learn like their peers from the teacher and ask for direction when needed in English. This program might aid some fast learners, but students who do not adapt to English; which is a foreign language to them, are left to learn on their own. If the student does not get the ... • 7. Exile In Beowulf The halls regaled in Old English Literature were safe havens for lords, warriors and clansmen alike, the halls had a complex association with the self in these times. Exile was equivalent to certain death to the Anglo Saxons; they were without protection from their lord or their clan and were wandering without a sense of belonging. In The Wandererthe theme of exile as a type of hell is apparent from the poet s narration of the wanderer s internal monologue. He laments how he is forced to travel the exile s path (Crossley Holland, line 5, pp.50) after his lords death and how he is perpetually alone without any kinsmen by his side. He reflects upon the joy of his old hall asking, where has the horse gone? Where the man? Where the giver ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To paraphrase Thomas Shippey in Bloom s Guides: Beowulf , mead halls are a place of happiness and full of light; whereas monsters are creatures that have to be covered by darkness (Shippey). Those who seek safety within the walls of the hall shall be protected for the monsters that dwell beyond. Heaven is a place often portrayed as being bathed in light much like the halls in Old English literature, while exile is more closely aligned with the Christian idea of hell, a dark place void of protection and companionship. Continuing with Beowulf, characters can also be used as modes to convey this message. The contrast between Beowulf and Grendel is almost as opposite as the halls and exile or Heaven and Hell. Beowulf is celebrated and a great protector of those who follow behind him, bathed in the light of the halls he spends time in. While Grendel is exiled with only his mother for companionship and hides in the cloak of darkness, always stalking unable to withstand the light of the halls. Stanley Baldwin touches on this idea in his companion book, CliffsNotes; Beowulf , he describes Heorot as it is a place of light, warmth, and joy, contrasting with Grendel s morbid swamp as well as the dark and cold of winters in Scandinavia (Baldwin, pp.76). The idea of the hall as a sort of heaven like structure is explored in Bede s Ecclesiastical History of the English People he talks of a sparrow flying through a hall in a winter s storm, ...While inside, he is safe from the winter storms; but after a few moments of comfort, he vanishes from sight into the wintery world from which he came (Bede et al., pp.130 131). • 9. Visual Illusions Are A Phenomena That Arise From... Visual illusions are a phenomena that arise from misperception of the observed object s properties. Visual illusions allow us to study the difference between the objective reality and our interpretation of the perceived visual stimuli or the way our brains process visual information, in order to develop a general understanding of our visual system (Carrasco, 1986); In spite of the relevance of this issue, general concensus is yet to be reached on the origin of such phenomena One representation is the Muller Lyer (1889) Illusion (MLI), a geometric size illusion classically represented by modified perception of the length of a line, influenced by arrowheads or arrowtails on its endpoints (Zeman et al, 2014). The MLI has been widely used attempting to explain the underlying mechanism behind geometrical illusions; Gregory (1966) attributed the illusion to the misapplied size constancy scaling influenced by depth cues; Carrasco (1986), argued that visual channels are orientation and spatial frequency specific after presenting the MLI to eight participants and observing a reduction on the illusion after exposure to a low spatial frequency grid. Although evidence questioning this claim has been presented in many studies (Carlson, Moeller, Anderson, 1984) (GarcГa Garibay De Lafuente, 2015) (Zeman et al, 2014) (Zeman A. , Obst, Brooks, Rich, 2013) where the illusion persists in images absent of low spatial frequencies and has been assessed with the latest technology. • 10. Airport Environmental Impact And Legislation Airport Environmental Impact and Legislation Overview Airports impact their local communities in a wide variety of ways. As an employer, large, international airports can help local economies thrive financially with employment opportunities for area residents. Even smaller municipal airports give back to the local community in the form of tax revenue from fuel sales, airplane property taxes, and in the case of land lease arrangements, hangar property taxes. Further, airports can (and typically do) impact the environment around them. Airport operators are mandated by federal and state guidelines on areas such as erosion mitigation, pollution prevention, and to fuel spill prevention, and are bound even further to protect the local ecology and reduce the impact on wildlife, flora, and endangered species (Horonjeff, 2010). Airports must be prepared to respond to any potential environmental disaster. This is accomplished through action plans developed at the state and local levels, such as a Stormwater Pollution Prevention and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures Plans. Environmental Impact There are significant rules and regulations placed on airports that deal with the environment. One widely referred to document is Federal Aviation Administration Order 5050.4B, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Implementing Instructions for Airport Projects (DOT, 2006). Procedures contained within this instruction are mandatory, and airport operators are legally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was just 44 years ago that interracial marriage was made fully legal throughout the United States, and it is becoming more common for members to marry outside of ones own race. The growth of interracial marriages in the United States corresponds with changes in the legal status of interracial marriages and what some would consider, little, but some changing of arrogance among Americans towards persons in interracial relationships. Recent increases in interracial unions with Whites presumably reflect positive changes in American race relations as well as the blurring of racial boundaries and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The causes of interracial couple conflicts are stemmed from many sources. One source in which conflicts arise comes from members of society. The views on non Blacks and Blacks interracial marriage is frowned upon. Although interracial marriage is more common members of society are not fully in agreement with these mixed unions and there are opposing views on the idea of society acceptance of this union. For example, in the article by Batson et al. research findings examined explanations that social relationships and arrogance in American society intensely suggest a strong Black and non Black racial gap. The implication for Blacks in American society is that interracial marriages with Whites will continue to be less common than they are for other non Black racial minorities (2006). Discrimination against interracial couples doesn t just end there, discrimination occurs at restaurants and other public areas, people stare as if they had just seen a ghost. Sixty four percent of African American and Caucasian interracial couples experience undesirable public reaction. I grew up in a small cul de sac located in East Los Angeles and lived in a newly constructed two story, three bedroom home. The house was one block away from the local park, which was visible from my bedroom. At the age of five I moved from my home in East Los Angeles to South Gate which was located south of Los Angeles. When I turned five years old I moved to a new home, I realized the house was in a peaceful, clean, and crimeless area than where I used to live, but the house was an old looking house that was built in the 1950s. The house wasn t a two story house but just one floor. Inside of the home was full of old and dirty carpet, the carpet was extended to all the rooms and some of the carpet had mold like stains on it. There were only two rooms inside and I was forced to share a bedroom with my parents. The backyard of the home was full of dirt, lizards, cockroaches, and other insects. Overall, the home was worse than the one we used to own but it was located in a wonderful neighborhood full of delightful neighbors, a lot of trees and peace. The first day in our new home was a disaster. Cockroaches came out of the walls, toilet, through doors, and electrical sockets. John Deere innovated plows and made an impact on society by helping over one thousand farmers succeed in their jobs with his improved plow while showing people that persisting can lead to a solution. John just had recently moved to Illinois and started selling old plows that worked with the soil at his birthplace in Vermont. His business was a success until there was a huge problem with the plows that he sold. Customers complained that their wood or iron plows proved ineffective in turning the prairie sod, which stuck to the implant s surface. (Publication: Gale Encyclopedia of U.S. Economic History Document: Steel Plow) This was because the soil had a very thick covering that would clog up the moldboards of the plow if you ever tried to plow it. Every author has unique characteristics about him/her that make one poet different from another, but what cause Emily Dickinson to be so unique are not only the words she writes, but how she writes them. Her style of writing is in a category of its own. To understand how and why she writes the way she does, her background has to be brought into perspective. The controversy surrounding Emily Dickinson is her odd lifestyle and her tendencies to be somewhat of a recluse. She is sometimes considered abnormal because she does things differently from most others. She spends much of her life dressed in white and withdrawn from much of society. Of course, her peers take this negatively, but what they do not understand is that her being so private is more of a meditation to her, instead of a hiding. She just wants to escape the pressures she feels are normally required of women. She does not want to be a servant to sick and elderly. She feels she has more potential for her mind to grow, and those obligations would just be hindrances to her writing (McQuade 1255). Her childhood and her staying out of society as an adult, along with many other aspects known and not known, influence her poems and the style in which she goes about writing the works. Her techniques of writing are completely different from any other writer, whether prose or poetry. Dickinson composes her phrases by marking them off with a dash, placing a space before and after. This small maneuver places more emphasis on her impress of the mind in its analysis of experience (McQuade 1256). Her slant thymes and unique form of expression produces more of an oddness to the audience. One of Emily Dickinson s unique forms of writing is her excessive use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For starters, there are a lot of his teachings that are not used in modern day. Christianity is built off of a whole lot. Namely the Pharisee tradition of Judaism and all that comes with it (the old testament, the concept of heaven/hell, the resurrection, the devil, etc). Furthermore, Christianityis not based solely off of the teachings of Jesus per say, rather it is based off of the story. Namely the crucifixion and resurrection. As far as how we should live, we get a lot of that from Jesus, Paul, John, Peter, and the early church. Unfortunately, denominations, churches, and theologies tend to give principals and rules rather than equip the average believer to actually walk with and know God. As far as doctrines such as the trinity, and general Christology we get this very much from the early Church. All of these reasons cause the controversy of the lunar effect to exist. There has been many anecdotes involving the lunar effect. King Lear was written by William Shakespeare, in 1605, after Othello and before Macbeth. This book proposes as one of Shakespeare s greatest plays. King Learis typically about a king who banishes his youngest daughter (Cordelia) for refusing to be fraudulent and allocates his kingdom to his 2 older daughters, and the occurrences that come along with it. King Lear s fundamental theme is about betrayal. Children betraying their parents, old age takes over, and the mind betrays his owner and leaves him lunatic. For example, Goneril directly indicates King Lear when he says: I swear, old fools are babes again. (1,3) mentioning his old age. Another example of disloyalty would be when Gloucester says: I am almost mad myself... The grief hath crazed my wits (3.4) talking about the madness and foolishness of himself. Adding Gnostic text to the canonical Bible complicated the New Testament even further. It was also considered elitist, as a religion based on knowledge during a time where most of the population was illiterate would be exclusionary and inaccessible. The main reason, however, that the early Christianity we all now know and love survived over Gnosticism is that Gnosticism is individualistic, while Orthodox Christianity is more community centric. In ancient times as well as modern, it is easier to survive while working with a group, for the good of the group. Nectar In A Sieve Gender Inequality Essay The Damage of Gender Inequality in Nectar in a Sieve Nectar in a Sieve, a novel by Kamala Markandaya, tells the tale of a woman named Rukmani and the numerous tragedies and challenges she faces in life during a sudden phase of modernization in India, brought on by imperialism. In the novel, Rukmani, born wealthy and well learned, is married off at 12 years old to an older man, a poor tenant farmer named Nathan. Following this, the book goes on to chronicle the struggles she faces, such as poverty, famine, illness, and the death of many loved ones. Because women are considered inferior to men, this causes further hardship (in already difficult circumstances) in Rukmani s journey. One of the first examples of how sexism leads to further misfortune in Rukmani s life, is the expectation that women get married at a young age to be a submissive and obedient wife. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leaves people with a practical limitation: what we call consciousness would have to derive from within the human cognitive functions. Arthur Koestler has boiled the process of creation down to a mechanical system he termed bisociation , in which two previously unrelated matrices of experience are combined, and a new understanding of a situation is established. As Archimedes cried eureka, the common occurrence of the water rising was combined with the problem he was tasked to solve, and so came the solution of the displacement of water should be of equal volume as the crown. What Koestler hadn t expected, however, is the ubiquitous nature far beyond what he proposed. At birth, the human brain knows only the basic biological instincts necessary for survival. But as it grows, new knowledge and experiences are accumulated to form a fundamental baseline for the bisociation process. Considering the variables involved in even the simplest of real life circumstances, it is unrealistic to expect any one portion of the baseline to resemble the situation exactly. This baseline, therefore, can only define a standardized version of situations and the appropriate reactions associated with it. The process of bisociation is then necessary for the improvisation of a response in accordance. Unlike Jaynes theory that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the case of the Native Americans, they were abused and exploited for millennia only to benefit people of higher power. Similar to other oppressed groups, there became a time when the American Indians began to stand for who they are and commenced fighting for the demolition of injustice. Because of the increasing need for a voice, members of the Native American communities band together to create the American Indian Movement(AIM). • 45. Analysis And Implications Of Isolated Worlds I.Further analysis and implications of isolated worlds One of the fundamental tenants of this view is that these possible worlds must not engage with one another in any way. In order to be fully isolated, the occurrence of something in one world does not and cannot influence what goes on in any other world. Lewis goes on to say that an infinite number of such worlds exists. This is because there is an infinite number of possibilities for how one part of a world could possibly be. Lewis includes possible worlds that do not obey our rules of nature, ones in which no life exists. For each of these ways that a world or a part of a world could possibly be, there absolutely exists another world that is in fact that way (Plurality of Worlds 209, 222). Lewis refers to this as plentitude. All of these different worlds, including our own, are the same kind of thing, making one no more real than any other. The view holds that this world does not differ from others in its manner of existing. Thus the actual world, for Lewis, is just wherever here is. For us, the actual world is our universe. However, someone in another world can say that the same statement referring to a different universe (their universe) and the statement would hold true in both cases. At this point, it seems natural to object that Lewis view is nonsensical. How can it be true that both this universe and some other universe are the actual world? The reason for forced induction is simple more air means to more power. When the engine is using the compressed air, it is called boost. Superchargers and turbochargers are the two common types of forced induction. A superchargeris driven by a belt like an alternator. A turbochargeris driven by the flow of exhaust. The debate of which is better is one of the most talked about debate and there is no right or wrong answer. There are pros and cons that make it imposable to say one is better. There may be one that is better for your use. Turbochargers are bolted on the exhaust headers using exhaust gasses to spin and spool an impellor in the turbo. This is efficiently using energy that would have been wasted. When the one impellor is being spun by the exhaust the other is sucks air in the engine making boost. Since the turbo is powered by the exhaust a lot of heat is made. You do not want that to go through your engine because this could cause the engine to overheat. To prevent overheating problems an intercooler is installed. The air travels through the intercooler during the proses the air is cooled. One limitation of turbo is turbo lag, because the turbo is driven by the exhaust it takes some time for the impellor to spool, but once it is spooled you can get full boost quickly.
