An Outdated Relic From The Victorian Era Of Teaching
Are grades a state of the art method of assessing one s academic aptitude, or rather, are they an
antiquated relic from the Victorian era of teaching? I ask this because as of late, grades have been
under heavy scrutiny for corrupting students with the false pretense that good grades are more
important than actually absorbing the subject material. The argumentthat students would rather
receive a good gradein a course instead of actually gaining a comprehensive understanding of the
subject shouldn t be news to anyone. This has been the case for a long time, and many people
would fully acknowledge this. Alfie Kohnbrings attention to this unfortunate truth in his piece
From Degrading to De Grading, where he exposes many of the existing flaws present in the grading
system today. He first does this by listing the three primary main effects of grading. The first being,
that grades tend to reduce students interest in the learning itself (Kohn). Secondly he reveals his
analysis that grades tend to reduce students preference for challenging tasks (Kohn). And lastly,
Kohn expresses his belief that grades tend to reduce the quality of students thinking (Kohn). To give
Kohn some credit, he does justify his sentiment toward grades by including somewhat brief
explanations annotated to each of the aforementioned effects provided by him. The issue with his
argument isn t necessarily that it is factually incorrect, but that the current method of grading is far
more effective

The Role Of Genius In Plato s Ion
The role and knowledge of the artist has been part of the philosophical discourse on art for a very
long time. There have been several philosophers who have contributed to the discussion. Plato, in
his piece Ion, provides an explanation of knowledge (technique) and inspiration, and how they
affect an artist. Platodoes this through the dialogue of Socrates and the rhapsode Ion, whom is an
expert in the poems of Homer. Although written long ago, when art wasn t as developed/diverse
as it has come to be, the basic concept of knowledge versus inspiration is one that paved the road
for future philosophers to further the discussion of the knowledge and role of the artist. From
the beginning of the dialogue, it is inferred that Ion is a great rhapsode because he won first
place in a contest. However, Ion admits early on that his skill as a rhapsode only apply to when
he is reciting the poems of Homer and not others . Socrates responds to Ion: No one can fail to
see that you speak of Homer without any art of knowledge. If you were able to speak of him by
rules of art, you would have been able to speak of all other poets; for poetry is a whole. (Ion,
Plato) This is the beginning of Plato establishing technique when a man has acquired a knowledge
of a whole art, the enquiry into good and bad is one and the same. (Ion,Plato) It is clear through this
dialogue that Socrates doesn t see Ion as having knowledge/technique due to his inability to
understand and perform anything other

Stereotypes In Uglies By Scott Westerfeld
The image of a person is often something that gets judged very quickly in society. People often see
others and instantly think of something about that person. Men, women and children are all
outcast for many different reasons. Society judges people for traits including, skin colour, gender,
hair color, and body type. The media and society constantly make people feel bad about the way
they look. In Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld, the main theme is about finding one s identity in a world
that already has one made up for them. Despite this theme, the characters in the novel do not strive
to overcome society s stereotypes. The pretties, specials and the uglies do not try to break out of
society s ways and find their own identities. After the operations,... Show more content on

They are scared of the government and what might happen, so they run away without trying to
interfere with what the operation is doing to innocent people. In addition to this, the specials
also act like robots. In the novel the specials keep repeating one line to the uglies, they say we
don t want to hurt you. But we will if we have to. This line shows how the specials have very little
emotions and feelings. They have a mission and they will do anything to achieve it. They do not
look for anything to change and if it were up to them nothing ever

Influence of Entertainment Media
America s have shaped our culture though entertainment for media proposes for years.
Entertainment media is how Americans attract the way of life. The social influences relay on the
media entertainment for positive and negative images to help transform the minds of people. The
culture of Americans have always been through television, computers, and entertainment. The
values of our culture have been acknowledged though media, and influences of behaviors showed

Another example would be the educational shows that are on television for children. When a child

Children their colors, numbers, and the days of the week. By listening to Bernie sing, I Love You ,
it assist them to remember how everyone should be treated. When looking at the approach of how it
effect the younger generation. This have always been the way Americans use entertainment to help
coach the mind, and influence people into the way of thinking.
Reflecting back on the book of Culture Media chapter 8: the movie theater began to make the
movie theater more comfortable for consumer. In realty movies brings families together. Movies
show things that people idolizes or the true culture of things. The inside of a celebrity s life
might be reviled in most movies. That gives Americans a since of what to dream of and achieve
later in life. Chapter 9 also stated that, the nature of crime that involved celebrities would show a
bad image of Americans. Meaning when the movies that would come out in the 1900 s it began a
very bad outrage, because of the content that it carried. Some felt that it let off racial content. That
later lead to riots at some of the viewings. Yes, entertainment can have a big effect on attitudes.

Suffragettes Movement
One of the most inspiring and empowering time for women worldwide was when we fought for
the right to be heard. Putting their lives on the line, as was the case more for the Suffragists, or
leading community rallies, as the Suffragettes, there was no stopping the inevitable. Women
would win the right to vote. No doubt the party bus rentals were going nuts in 1918. I m often
touted by friends for not being realistic enough for the topic I spend so much time supporting, but
I believe, even with all the horrors many women endure, that women can and will unite to free
themselves. It may take many more years I m not a prophet, but I know the strength of female
energy. We carry life and give birth. I don t see those who are being suppressed remaining in those

The Suffrage Movement Beginning in 1848 the worldwide women s rights movement eventually
included forty three different countries. The basic rally was for women to be given the equalities
of men. Groups were fighting for different laws to be changed within the cultural boundaries of
their country, but the bottom line was and still is, that women demand more respect. The two
major players on the stage of change for women were known as the Suffragist and the
Suffragettes. These two fractions of the whole succeeded in supporting each other to victory. Some
would still argue that women, even in developed countries, still have a long way to go before the
male/female playing field is completely level. Suffragist Both groups were passionate about their
cause, however the Suffragist were more militant about getting their message heard. By today s
standards obstructing traffic and heckling wouldn t be considered assaulting, but in the early 1900s
it quickly got you thrown in jail. Naturally there s more to the story, but whatever these women

Paulo Freire The Banking Concept Of Education Summary
In the article The Banking Concept of Education the author, Paulo Freire, goes through and
describes in great detail on his learning experience called the banking concept. The banking concept
of education is when the teacher, who is considered the depositie, goes and deposits their
knowledge into their students. During this article Freire goes and describes his opinion on the
educationsystem and why it might be failing and introduces a new system called the problem
posing which he believes will solve the failing education system we have now. Paulo Freirewas
drawn into education after his years of studying law, philosophy, and psychology of language.
Freire work was mostly on the people living in the urban and rural areas of Brazil.

A Midwife’s Tale by Martha Ballard Essay
When Thomas Jefferson wrote the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, it
became one of his greatest legacies. In the first line he wrote, We hold these truths to be self
evident, that all men are created equal (U.S. Constitution, paragraph 2). Jefferson wrote these
words to give inspiration to future generations in the hopes that they would be able to change what
he either would or could not. The word men in the Declaration in the early 1700 and 1800 s meant
exactly that, but even then it only was true for some men, not all. Women, children, and other
segments of the population such as slaves and Native Americans were clearly not included.
Jefferson himself was a slave owner and held the belief that women were... Show more content on

Who Is Montag A Hero In Fahrenheit 451
There are 129, 864, 880 books in the world. Now imagine if there were zero. In Ray Bradbury s
Fahrenheit 451, this is precisely the goal of firemen and the majority of society. Guy Montag has
been a fireman for ten years, and he has always gotten a certain thrill from starting fires to burn
houses containing books to the ground. Then Clarisse McClellan comes along and changes his
perspective on everything. She says that firemen did not always use to start fires; they used to put
them out, and people were not afraid. I like to smell things and look at things, and sometimes stay
up all night, walking, and watch the sun rise (Bradbury 7). Clarisse questions his happiness, and
Montag cannot answer confidently that he is fully happy with his life.... Show more content on

When Montag reveals his secret stash of books in the attic, she nearly faints and tells him that he
must burn them in the incinerator immediately. Throughout the novel, Montag struggles with
individuality and making a difference despite dealing with his mind blocked co workers who
quickly target him as the outsider and turn the Mechanical Hound loose on him. There must be
something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there
must be something there. You don t stay for nothing (Bradbury 51). He develops a plan with
Faber, a man who remembers what the world was like before firemen began burning books. This
plan just might be the key to regaining the people s rights and restoring books to their rightful
place in society. Firemen eliminated the people s ability to express one s own opinion when they
eradicated books and free knowledge from the world. In Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury explores this
idea of censorship and the fact that it bans individuality and the ability to express one s

Effects Of Rms On The Weekly Calls
As RMS continues to indicate, based on our observations and more importantly on the review of
assets during our weekly calls with Altisource, RMS continues to believe on many of these assets,
the condition or location of the property is the primary driver behind not only the large reduction in
list price, but ultimately a sales price well below the initial list price, all of which contribute to
extended days on market and an increase in carrying costs incurred by the Trust. We believe one of
the contributors to this relates to the Altisource process where the listing agent is not local to the
property and typically has not personally visited the assetto assess the condition, the location, drive
by the comps and generally may not be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because Altisource cannot be directed to set the list price of an asset, RMS attempts to get
Altisource to recognize assets that are listed too high and to make appropriate adjustments that will
generate activity and offers.
RMS continues to review assets where we believe the list price set by Altisource is high relative
to our opinion of market value. On listed assets with DOM of more than 60 days, RMS and
Altisource discuss the list price and agent feedback to understand why purchase offers have not
been received. RMS targets these assets for review every 2 weeks.
Another recent observation is an increase in the number of assets in pending contract that fall
out because the buyer fails to return the purchase agreement. This trend has continued to
increase over the past several months. Although Altisource does not provide statistics regarding
overall fallout, RMS has seen an increase based on our observations and the weekly calls. We
believe this relates to the process by which Altisource sells REO assets (on the HUBZU
website), where there is no economic penalty to the bidder if they place an offer on a property
but fail to deliver an executed purchase agreement (similar to what would happen in a traditional
sale transaction). In addition, we believe the lack of agent to agent contact and knowledge of
whether a buyer visits the property prior to making an offer also play a role in the increased
fallout. Altisource reports

How Does The Endocrine System Contribute To Homeostasis
In the human body the internal temperature is maintained at 37 degrees Celsius and this is
maintained as a result of homeostasis. Homeostasis is the process of balancing or keeping a stable
internal environment in the body. A majority of organ systems in the body contribute to
homeostasis, however there are two very important organ systems that play a massive role within
this process, and they are the endocrine and nervous system. Both are crucial as they permit
communication in the body and the integration of cells as well as tissue functions.
The body s internal environment is regulated by three components, they are known as the feedback
systems of homeostasis. The feedback system is made up of the receptor, a control center and
effector. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once they have been secreted together they form an osmotic equivalent of water so by the time
they reach the end of the proximal tubule about two thirds of these fluid have been reabsorbed. The
loop of Henle is linked with maintaining that osmotic gradient in the renal medulla. This is
achieved by sodium chloride being transported from the tubular fluid ( the interstitium) without
changing the osmotic uptake of the water. The osmolality of the water leaving the tube of Henle is
lower than the plasma, whilst the interstitium is higher. According to the requirements of the body
the distal tubule adjusts the ionic balance of the body by changing the amount of sodium and other
substances that are reabsorbed back into the body. It is also responsible for the secretion of
hydrogen ions, which leads to the acidification of the urine, because of this, this urine that leaves
the distal tubule is dilute. If the osmolality of the urine is relatively high when it passes through the
collecting ducts, water is absorbed under the influence of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) and the urine
that is concentrated is excreted.
However, if the osmolality of the urine is low, little ADH is secreted.
To conclude, if the communication between the organs is adequate then

Sidewinder Snakes
Dr. Joseph Mendelson from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Atlanta Zoo presented his
research on the mechanism used by sidewinder snakes for locomotion on sand with the
implementation of a robot snake as a model system. The research study involved the collaboration
of the physics, engineering and biology departments to further understand the nature of snake
movements. Sidewinders are snakes that are able to move on sand at different inclinations because
they do not slither but rather employ a different mechanism of movement. Dr. Mendelson was able
to determine that the robot snake which mimics a snake that slithers is unable to move on sand
with an inclination greater than zero degrees. The research involved the use of a sandbox which...

From the observations of snakes in nature, the results showed that their locomotion is truly
optimized based on their repeated operations being maintained in an effective zone. The robot
snake was manipulated with different durations and amounts of lifts and contacts that would vary,
but be maintained in the ineffective zone due to the failed movement on sand. Another research
study involved the examination of the mechanisms employed by sidewinders for turning in a
different direction of movement. The results suggested that sidewinders change directions
horizontally or vertically by changing the angle of their head. An analysis of the robot snake
demonstrated an unobservable locomotion that it is possible to move in both a horizontal and
vertical wave movement on the sand in order to change directions via a differential or reversal
turning locomotion. Through the investigation of these research studies, Dr. Mendelson and his
co researchers were able to discover that in effect sidewinders suffer a cost of being able to
implement a different locomotion on inclinations of sand. Sidewinders are not able to avoid
obstacles as easily as snakes that slither which can just turn their heads in a slight angle away
from the obstacle in order to avoid it. The results showed that the reason for this cost is due to the
mechanism that sidewinders use for which the head does not reach the obstacle first to avoid the
obstacle beforehand instead of being tangled by it with their body. A study that is currently being
conducted involves the investigation of the interface between a floor substrate and the skin of a

The Cultural Context Of Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis
In our interactive Oral we discussed about Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis, through point of time and
place matter, the relation to the society, the culture and experience and the technique in the work, I
learned about the society oppressive expectation can lead an individual to loss in identity
I originally pictured the choice that Gregor chose to work is because of the feudalistic ideas of his
family, and the rule of the society makes the difference in individual self awareness. However
through our class discussion surrounding the time and place matters, i realized that the Gregor felt
he has to work because he lives in that area that makes him think it is his responsibilities to labor
for his family. While we researched the background information about Franz Kafka, we come to the
result that the reason why Gregor doesn t like to work, it is because in the period of Kafka exist,
and where he wrote the book, which is limited by the rule of society and the rigorous control from
his father. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

perspective now, the social issue is different, it is depending on the background of the year,
probably people have different opinion about the culture and social context a few years ago.
While the teenager and elder people has totally difference perspective, when the teenager read this
book, they will put more expectation and hope on the society. Inversely when elder people read
the book, they will consider the society as a competition, it is normal that there is a situation could

significant, principally in music. As people may have witnessed, the music industry has been a

actually views it as strengths and a great management tool. We understand that Sander intends to

that many people in the organization feel the same way about the 360В° performance review.
Perhaps this is the first issue that needs to be addressed and the managers need to first see the
value in this review process and have a better understanding of its mechanics before they roll it

disapproval of this process does not set the appropriate foundation for this organization to fully

SUMMARY
One of the major drivers of future success for both Google and Microsoft is the ability of both
companies to use software applications to drive eyeballs to advertisers. Each company is
positioned differently in this regard. Microsoft has a sizable, mature installed base of app users, but
the company s business model is currently focused on selling these apps as a consumer product to
users, rather than on advertising. Google, by contrast, has been focused for some time on utilizing
its industry leading search engine and a growing, yet less mature, base of other apps to drive
eyeballs to advertisers. Both Google and Microsoft have to reckon with major ... Show more content

A Career As A Spanish Language Teacher
When I was younger I observed and experienced the Spanish culture and found such interest in
expanding my education to later on pursue the career of a Spanish Language Teacher. After
researching the responsibilities, the work conditions, salary, the outlook, and future; a career as a
spanish language teacher would be interesting, and the perfect training would be at St. Mary s
University at San Antonio. Tasks and responsibilities for this career are all very different and must
be done on a daily basis when getting the students to comprehend and understand the new teachings.
Foreign Language Teachers must make sure to interpret the terminology and translate it into the
student s natural language to help them understand better in their learning. They must also provide
instruction in the literature and also in the history of the culture so that the students will be
learning correctly. Professors should also tests students frequently to see their progress so that they
know exactly where they re at. These tests and other activities will show the teacher if the students
understand to read, write, and most importantly the overall understanding in the dialect. If the
instructor sees that the students may need a bit more of help with understanding, it is
recommended that the students work in small groups so that other learners that have a better
understanding of the language can help the ones that don t really understand. Professors should also
ensure students that they are in a

Essay On The Fall Of The Western Roman Empire
Rome was once the most powerful empire of the Mediterranean. However, overtime Rome s
power started failing. The people became less interested in the affairs of the state, and the emperors
became less interested in the well being of the people. Overtime the infrastructure of Rome began
to fall apart because of the lack of connection between the people and the government which
ultimately lead to the many issues that occurred later on in the empire. Not only was the Roman
Empirefilled with internal problems, but it also suffered from a variety of external problems such
as invasions from different barbaric tribes. The fall of the Western Roman empire was caused by
Barbarian invasions, economic decline, and a corrupt government.
The most evident factor that led to Rome s downfall was invasion from Barbaric tribes. Rome
continued to conquer new lands and expand, but the people of Rome had lost the will to fight.
The lack of Roman citizens in the military forced government officials to hire foreigners to fight,
most of whom were Barbarians. This seemed like a logical idea, but little did the Romans know
that some of the Barbarians they trained in their military would cause destruction that Rome had
never before faced. As the Great Wall of China went up, dangerous tribes from the North were
displaced. Among these tribes were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Child Labor Laws
It is estimated that one in six of the world s children are working in unacceptable conditions and
that s about 180 million children worldwide (Kilcullen 218). That is a great deal of children that
are exposed to harm or exploitation. The opposing side believes that these poor countries need
child laborto survive, that it is alright to pay children low wages for the work they do, and do not
believe that schooling is as important as work. By regulating child labor laws, governments would
be able to enforce safer working conditions, increase wages to meet the cost of living, and mandate
educationfor better opportunities even though the opposing side disputes these reasons and stance.
First of all, child labor laws should be regulated so that working conditions are safer. Children s
health is diminishing because of the terrible working conditions. According to the International
Labour Organization (ILO), 23 percent of all children between 5 and 17 years of age were
economically active in the year 2000, and that About half of these children are estimated to do
work that is likely to harm their health, safety, or moral development (Huebler 4). There is an
enormous amount of children that are being harmed at work, and better regulations should be
placed to stop this from happening. Children are suffering from injuries at work and the accidents
end up unreported. England s Health and Safety Executive says that there are, 31 reportable
accidents involving under 16s at work over the past two years, including 16 major injuries and
one fatality (White 137). This is why accidents are being under reported, and children that work in
illegal industries are worse off. If there are no regulations and nobody is enforcing better and safer
work conditions, there will be more children injured each year.
On the other hand, the opposing side believes that child labor is necessary in developing countries.
Some believe that developing countries need child labor to survive and that parents need their
children to work so that they can afford an education and food. Gary Weiner explains, Children
who work long hours either get an inferior education, or none at all, and grow up without the
necessary skills and education that will

College Tuition Benefit Analysis
Imagine somebody having just graduated from high school, and they are trying to get into a
college, but they don t have to much say as to which college they go to because many students
cannot afford to go to a nice college let alone a cheap college. For some people it s harder to
imagine, but for others that is the life that they are living right now. According to the College
Board of Education tuition has increased by 8.6% since 2012, meanwhile average household
incomes have only increased by 2.23%. The following tuition increase trend is becoming a
serious threat to American society, and must be slowed down. At this rate families will soon have
no hope of ever paying for college debt. Many people want to blame the government to
contributing greatly to the recent increase in tuition by saying there used to be a plethora of public
funding opportunities for colleges, but that they were then all slashed. This is not even close to the
reality of the situation. While people did use to be able to pay tuition out of... Show more content on

Even though this may seem like a good thing, this too has its own cons. With the rising amount of
money given out in financial aid colleges are making less net revenue which is making it hard to
fund better educational avenues for students. Colleges are also giving some students in need a
discounted price for tuition, and it has increased to almost 48.6% of freshman who receive these
discounts (Redd, Upper Limits). This leads to even more struggle for colleges to meet demands.
Small and mid size colleges are having the most difficult time with this trend, their net revenue is
having trouble increasing proportionally to their student increase. They should be increasing their
revenue by about 2% every year (Redd, Upper

The Conflict Of The United Nation
The world that we lived in is full of conflicts. Theories have come into play as general explanations
for these causes. When problems are not solved between countries, worse case scenario would be to
involve the military forces to threaten each other. The United Nation is the mediator amongst these
countries to hopefully come into a state of resolution or compromise in order to reduce massive
destructions. The economyand trade amongst nations often determine the power, status, and the
relations amongst each country as to be either good or bad.
Conflict of ideas consists of ethnic, religious, ideological, territorial, governmental, and economic.
According to Goldstein and Pevehouse (2014), the first three are conflicts over ideas, the last three
conflict over interests (p. 160). Throughout the world, ethnic conflict is the most important source
of conflict as it is large groups of people who share ancestral, language, cultural, or religious ties
and a common identity. Thus, this is not based on tangible causes, but on intangible ones. Goldstein
and Pevehouse (2014) stated that fundamentalist religious movements pose a broad challenge to the
rules of the international system in general and state sovereignty in particular (p. 188). Religious
conflicts are intangible, as everyone s religious practices are different and often transcend material
grievances. Although some religious groups coexist peacefully, religions involve core values and
held as absolute truth for

Grandma Viive Autobiography
Her story began in 1944, but has never been forgotten. By sharing her experience, she continues to
influence my life.
My grandma, born in Tallinn, Estonia, fled the Russian attack during WWII. Viive, age nine, Ilvi,
her four year old sister, and mother, Silvia, escaped on foot from the Russian occupation of their
country. Their family, broken apart, was forced to leave Karl behind, a devoted husband and father.
He was committed to protect Estonia, by fighting along side Hitler s German Army. My grandma
Viive, Aunt Ilvi, and their mother, known as Ema in Estonian, landed in Germany and were forced
to live in Displaced Persons Camps for seven years. Unsure of their future, they boarded a ship and
sailed to the United States of America. The three girls, along with other Estonians, had no choice
but to begin a new life far different than they had ever known. All three of the Baltic countries,
Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, lost their freedom and were annexed into the Eastern Block of the
Soviet Socialist Republic (U.S.S.R.). The people who remained suffered mass repression under
Stalin s Soviet rule. As a result, tens of thousands of Estonians experienced deportation or death.
The ones able to escape, like my grandma, were unable to return, or they would be killed as well.

The Climate of Arrakis in Dune by Frank Herbert Essay
The climate of a planet plays a significant role in determining how life presumes. In fact, a hot
climate makes water so scarce, that saliva is valuable. In the novel Dune, Frank Herbert makes the
climate of Arrakis so significant, that dead bodies are seen as a water source. The climate on the
planet of Arrakismakes water less significant than blood, because water cannot exist without
blood. Arrakis s climate is also a plus, because the warriors that live there are much more adapted
to it than anyone who was to invade to conquer. The planet of Arrakis is seen as a gold mine for
mГ©lange, because it has such a high potency of it, and the Fremenare pretty much in charge of it.

delineates the monstrosity of these brobdingnagian creatures. And he also says, Worms of more
than four hundred meters in length have been recorded by reliable witnesses, and there s reason
to believe even larger ones exist. (Herbert 356). This gives a glimpse of how truculent the worms
can be, and given the fact that the climate provides a tough environment, the worms can be
connected to the climate, because if the climate was not so cruel, and hot, then more
precipitation would occur on the planet, and water is poisonous to the worm. Worms would
cause drastic change to society if they were to disappear, because the worm s feed on Sand
Plankton, and sand plankton eat the mГ©lange in the sands of Arrakis. The term Little Makers
makes its appearance when the sand plankton grows, and become little makers, because they
make mГ©lange. This leads to how important the sandworms really are. The Fremen are
dependent on the worm, because of the spice that the little makers make. And the Fremen are
dependent on the spice, or they will die. So, if the climate were to pose a death sentence for the
worms, there would be a deadly process of what would follow: precipitation occurs, and the worms,
and little makers would start to die. This would then cause the creation, and distribution of

The Conflict Between North And South Korea During The...
On August 4th, 2015, two South Korean soldiers were injured by a North Korean landmine,
prompting the South for the first time in eleven years to resume anti North propaganda broadcast
via loudspeakers across the border. These conflicts provoked cross border fire and heated rhetoric,
however China and the United Statesare usually at the ready to ease friction between the North and
South. For the past 60 years the flames of the North and South Korean conflict have kept burning
ever since the spark of the Korean War. Although a majority of the fire has been extinguished with

Ethical Implications Of Slut Shaming
Taylor Durand Slut Shaming Introduction To the Term I mean did you see what Rachel wore
to the party last night? Total slut. Don t you worry about adding too many notches to your belt?
How many people have you slept with really? You re definitely getting into trashy territory
Rachel. Many times I have heard variations of these quotations being said throughout my life.
The real trash is policing someone s sexuality. Slut is a derogatory term used to degrade women
s sexuality. In this text I will outline the problems and the harm that slut shaming bestows on
women and their sexuality. Slut shaming is detrimental to women s psychological morale, her
political standings, and her role and power in society and relationships. In order to better
understand slut shaming, an explanation as to why it is a phenomenon in today s society needs
to be given. One of my biggest concerns is the fluid usage of the word slut or whore. This
phenomenon of slut shaming is mostly seen with teenagers and young adults and thus this is the
group I will be focusing on. Young women and men seem to define a slut differently. Women
define a slut as 1. A woman who is sexually active, 2. A woman who wears a lot of makeup, 3. A
woman who dresses suggestively, 4. A woman who, despite her unpopularity, tries to get the
attention of boys, 5. A woman who is assumed to be sexually advanced because her body is more
developed, 6. A woman who flirts with other girl s boyfriends or has a lot of guy friends.

Analysis Of All Quiet On The Western Front

APE, Per 5
10 January 2015
War in All Quiet on the Western Front World War one was a war of severe tribulation. resulting in
over 50 million deaths, it was one of the deadliest conflicts in human history. Known as the
Western Front , the border of Germany and France was the site to some of the bloodiest battles of
the war. There are very few novels that truly exemplify the events that took place along this front.
Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Displays important themes,
imagery, and symbolism, that help show how this great war affected the soldiers, the countries
involved and the world. Some examples of symbolism, such as Kemmerich s boots, The river,
and the horse, give us an idea of undertones and struggles in that occurred often in the war. The
boots are a prime example of wartime struggles, but also a symbol for strength. All soldiers are
looking for a good pair of boots in order to protect their feet, thus protecting themselves. A strong
soldier always has a good pair of boots. Often they have fair success, because they have very good
boots and ours are bad (Remarque 90). Bäumer believes that a soldier is only as good as his
boots. Muller inherited them from kemmerich, but both die shortly after. the boots are also symbols
of the change the war caused. Both of them men die because survival instincts take over. Juxtaposed
with the comments and thoughts of Bäumer in the penultimate chapter is a quickening

The author also adds an eerie backstory as to why it would be haunted , which consisted of a
suicide by hanging. It confused me by the end because I didn t know if she was possessed or
going crazy. I leaned more towards the possessed side since the ghosts would write out her name
in I assumed was blood and everyone else could see it, which knocks out the idea that she was
just imagining it; but she also could have done that herself but the book didn t specify that. My
least favorite character was Jack Torrance from The Shining. I hated it when he broke Danny s
arm and how he couldn t control his temper. Although it wasn t exactly his fault that he went
crazy and tired to also kill his family I feel like it wouldn t have maybe happened in the first
place. If he wasn t an alcoholic with anger issues he wouldn t have been so heavily influenced by
the ghosts into killing his family. One similarity all the books share is the involvement of an evil
force that greatly affects the people. Regan being possessed by a demon, Eleanor being possessed
by the ghosts in Hill House, and Jack being almost controlled by the ghost of Delbert. A similarity
between The Exorcist and The Shining is the use of a child having

representativeness and corroboration already into my research. In relation to being a villain, it
is clear the wide spread death and his subsequent concern as a result of his movements represents
his criminal persona. This is coming across in my main pieces of evidence up to this point. This
is also indicating Mao s motives and subsequently the effect it had on a specific group of people,
in this case is the Chinese s public. His movements also indicate somewhat his self interest in

Mangroves in the Australian Ecosystem Essay
Mangroves in Australia
Introduction
Mangroves are an integral part of the Australian ecosystem. They are valuable ecologically,
economically and socially. Mangroves provide nurseries to an abundance of marine species which
would die if the ecosystem was knocked out of balance. They also account for about 75% of
commercially caught fish in Australia. Unfortunately mangroves are under constant threat from
humans. Since European settlement in Australia, around 17% of Australia s mangroves have been
destroyed. Three large threats to mangroves are coastal development, chemical runoff and climate
change. These factors are all caused by humans, and can be easily stopped without much hassle.

Ecological Benefits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Aboriginal people have been able to extract these benefits without causing direct damage to the
mangrove ecosystem. Mangroves also play a large role in tourism. They provide a place for tourists
to go bird watching and partake in many other recreational activities. Human Impacts on Mangroves
Humans have played a large role in the destruction of mangroves. Pollutants, such as oil, fertilizers
and toxic chemicals, have affected the growth of mangroves. These pollutants are all forms of
waste produced by humans. Oil spills release large amounts of oil into the mangrove ecosystem.
This oil can smother the roots of mangrove trees, which kills the mangroves. Deforestation is
caused when many mangrove systems are cut down in order to develop infrastructure on the
mangrove site. When fertilizers and other nutrient filled products are not disposed of properly, the
result is eutrophication. Mangroves act as nurseries to fish and other marine animals. Currently too
many sea creatures are being fished, leading to the destruction of the mangrove ecosystem.
Deforestation
Many people see mangroves as nothing more than smelly, useless, trees, taking up valuable
building space. Lack of knowledge about the values of mangroves leads to them being cut down,
in order to build human settlements. So far, about 35% of the world s mangroves have been
destroyed. Most of the mangroves have been destroyed in

Aloe Vera, And The Vitality Of Youth Essay
Aloe Vera, also called simply Aloe, is a flowering, cactus like succulent plan that thrives in dry,
hot climates, and is believed to be at least 6,000 years old. Kumari is the Ayurvedic name for
aloe, and is translated as the vitality of youth (Chopra Simon, 2000, p. 66). Native to Africa (
Aloe, 2016), it is grown in tropical and sub tropical areas ( Aloe UMMC, 2015). Different parts
of the plant have different uses. The leaves, which are thick (cactus like) and fibrous, have three
layers. The central pulp contains gel that is extracted for use both topical and internal use (Chopra
Simon, 2000, p. 67). The fibrous part of the plant is used to make a laxative from the Aloe latex
that is extracted. Some products are made using the whole crushed leaf, and contain the latex and
gel ( Aloe WebMD, 2016).
The gel made from Aloe Vera, either pure or as part of a mixture, is commonly used in moisturizing
products for skin, is often included in sun block/sunscreen ( Aloe, 2016).
It also has a wide variety of medicinal purposes, including burns, wounds, skin irritations, and
constipation both historically and currently. Recently, it has not been recommended for use as a
laxative. Today, Aloe is still one of the most common herbs used for a multitude of purposes ( Aloe
UMMC, 2015, para. 1). It is also considered as a tonic for the liver (Lad, 2009, p. 130).

considerable amount of time especially test matches which last up to five days. If you want to

Essay on Dating Anxiety
Dating Anxiety
Have you ever been really stressed about something? Think of the time when you have been the
most stressed out. Multiply that to the 10th power and you have me before a date. It seems to me
dating and stress are like salt and pepper; you almost never have one without the other. Endless
anticipations flood your mind, making it almost impossible to keep a continuous train of thought.
The worst thing about dating is that you get seriously stressed out for one lousy night. It s enough
to turn a sane mind into a basket case. So much energy is put into preparing for a night that ends
up being pretty lame. One thing is for sure; dating is not worth the stress it brings. Here are some
examples of typical stresses you are faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tension is filling the house so you decide to wait outside.
While waiting for your date you get ambushed by mosquitoes. Now your arms are covered in itchy
red bumps that will be nagging at you the entire evening. By the time your date finally arrives,
your hair has turned into a frizzy rat s nest from waiting in the humidity, not to mention you are in
the worst mood possible. You get in the car trying to fake a genuine smile and just when you start
to chill out and relax the next issue is faced: where to go.
Of course your date leaves this crucial decision entirely up to you. After thinking through all of
the spots you like to go to, you pick one that seems to suit you both. Unfortunately, you picked
the place where your date s ex girlfriend likes to go. So you spend the whole evening trying to
spark a good conversation as your date jealously eyeballs all the guys his ex is flirting with. After
you realize the night is not going to get any better, you get the tab and ask your date for a ride
home. Just when you think it s over and you re in the clear, you arrive at the most awkward
situation of the evening: saying goodnight.
Tradition says that there must be a kiss before the night is officially over, but there is absolutely no
physical attraction between

Romeo And Juliet Light And Dark Imagery Essay
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet contributes a portion of its prosperity due to it s almost
exaggerated use of dramatic irony and Light and Dark Imagery, which introduces an almost
eccentric way for Romeo and Juliet to express their newfound love. Imagery, perhaps the most
common example of any literary devices, is the articulate formation of words to develop a vivid
scene in the reader s mind. There are many subcategories of imagery, albeit this particular essay
will specifically cover his continuous usage of Light and Dark Imagery , which are forms of
imagery that reference nouns resembling literal light objects in conjunction with being good
objects, and dark objects being bad objects. Interestingly enough, just how Light and Dark
imagery are polar opposites, the family feud between the Capulet and Montague family
compose of most of the conflicts in this play. However, Light and Dark imagery are also used to
convey and even exaggerates Romeo s love for Juliet, and Juliet s love for Romeo. The second
scene primarily consists of Romeo and his remarks for Juliet, as seen here: It is the east, and Juliet
is the sun/Arise, fair sun, and kill the moon(2.2.4 5) It is evident that this quotation by Romeo has
examples of both light and dark imagery. Romeo metaphorically compares the sun and moon to

Such a moral would teach the audience that the love in two being s relationship is paramount, and
authority should have no jurisdiction on their love. Metaphorically speaking, in the real world,
relationships seem to be controlled less by the two individuals, and more by the, (possibly),
disapproving parents, who do not approve of their choices. In essence, Shakespeare emphasizes that
love is, and should be, the couple s own mentality in terms of why they love each other, and nothing

Mr Keating Influence
In my opinion the two boys that were most affected by Mr. Keating, are Neil and Todd
respectively. Both were affected in different ways and Mr. Keating had different effects on
them. For Todd it takes a little while longer than Neil but he still seems to have been influenced
greatly. Todd Anderson was a quiet and shy kid who couldn t find his voice. He was what people
would call a follower in a group. Todd wouldn t add anything to a conversation unless asked a
question. Basically he didn t want to be recognized or put in the spotlight. While attending Mr.
Keating s classes you could see him change slightly. In fact, he even did something adventurous by
joining the new dead poet s society. Although he was pressured into that it was still his decision...

A breakthrough for Todd was when Keating assigned to write an original poem and recite it in
front of the class. At first Todd reveals he hasn t done the assignment; Keating up for the
challenge of getting Todd more rambunctious he makes Todd go out in front of the class. Keating
digs into Todd and Todd delivers a spectacular poem as he gains confidence in himself and his
abilities. Perhaps the greatest example of Todd s growth was at the end of the movie. Mr.
Keating is gathering his personal items from his office while the new English class is taking
place. As Keating is about to step out the door Todd shouts to Keating that the school had made
him sign a paper charging Keating with the responsibility of influencing a death. Todd is scolded
by his new teacher and Keating is also asked to leave. Not worried about the consequences Todd

Religious Opponents Of Evolution
Religious opponents of evolution began cloaking religious beliefs in scientific sounding language
and then mandating that schools teach the resulting creation science or scientific creationism as an
alternative to evolution. (P. 21) For these religious opponents of evolution, trying to argue by using
language as a mask for their religious beliefs is a smart tactic to try. However, religionoften has no
scienceto it. This leads to the question of why are these religious opponents trying to create
arguments to mask their religious beliefs in scientific language and why are they so threatened by
the teaching of evolution. Evolution teaches that organisms gained their functioning and complexity
through a process of steps to get there. Most

Violence In The Shawshank Redemption
Released in 1994, The Shawshank Redemption is a crime and drama filled movie under the
direction of Mr. Frank Darabont. The Shawshank Redemption is one of the best movies I have
watched in my 19 years of life. This exceptional movie displays many life lessons throughout with
multiple themes that give the movie more meaning. In the movie, you will see Andy Dufresne,
Ellis Boyd Redding (or known as Red,) Boggs, Warden Norton, Brooks Halten, and Tommy as
very important characters. This film possesses struggles of living in prison, and guilt that many
inmates feel from the crime they pursued. Most importantly, you will see friendships formed that
will last a lifetime. Hope and time are all the inmates have; and some of them don t have the hope...

I would totally recommend this movie to anyone. From what I have told you, you can see
exactly what I am talking about. This movie has many hardships, but it comes along with an
important message. For some, they might think Andy and Red lost so much of their lives. For
others, they think they gained so much more by going to prison. Finally, after receiving
redemption their lives continue. In my opinion, I would have liked the movie to have kept going
a little bit longer so we could see what happens next. It would have been nice if we knew what
happened next with Red and Andy. So many questions could be asked such as: did the two of them
stay out of trouble? Did the two of them ever come back to the United States? Over all The
Shawshank Redemption is a dramatic film with an excellent cast and with exceptional themes. If
anyone wanted to see a movie that will drop their jaws, I would tell them Shawshank is the movie
to watch. It truly was an amazing

Retirement Financial Planners
Many people would want to know how much money they need to retire. While this is a common
question financial planners such as Scott Storick deal with more frequently, there is usually no
definitive answer. It is not easy to determine how much you need when you retire, and it depends on
many factors and individual financial circumstances. Everyone has a different financial need for
their retirement, and what you may need will mostly likely be different from what other people
need. Nonetheless, while your individual situation may be unique, you can still estimate how much
you need to survive throughout your retirement age.
Here are a few guidelines to help you make a wise decision. Remember that working closely with a

Some people may be looking forward to buy a new house or travel when they retire. Others may be
faced with health conditions that increase their healthcare cost. These are things that will stretch
your retirement financial kit and exhaust it even before long.
Examine your expected income expenses in retirement
It is paramount you examine the projected income expenses you will meet when you retire. You
may want to identify the streams of income you have including the social security, pensions, and
bank savings. Determine whether by the time you retire, you will have paid fully your mortgage or
you will still be paying it off.
Also find out whether you will be making large purchases such as buying a home or moving to
another location. Inflation may still take its toll on your savings, therefore make sure you account
for it. When you use the 80 percent pre retirement income rule and further subject it to these
expected income expenses, you are likely to come up with a more appropriate figure.
In the event that you don t have enough money saved for retirement, you should start planning on
how you will make changes. When it is a few years away from retirement, consider increasing your

How Does John Keats s Poetry Reflect the Romantic Era Essay
Explain how the poetry of John Keats reflects the values of Romanticism.
The Romantic Era spanned roughly between 1798 and 1832 and its poetry places an emphasis on
the imagination, nature and feeling. The Romantic period was associated with imagination as
people looked with fresh curiosity into the workings of their own minds, generating ideas that laid a
foundation for modern psychology. Romanticism emerged out of the rational thought of the
Enlightenment Era into a redemptive and inspiring period. John Keats was born at the beginning of
Romanticism making him a significant figure in the expression of these values. His poetry was a
great example to the Romantic era and his poems; When I have fears that I may cease to be and

Keats s When I have fears that I may cease to be represents the major key concepts of
Romanticism values through his use of the significant metaphor that is linked with the natural
world. Before my pen has glean d my teeming brain symbolises the pen as a tool for harvesting
and Hold like rich garners the full ripen d grain , is the product that is finalised from all the hard
work on the field. Keats reflects his hard work of poetry to the importance of nature and compares it
to harvesting to visualise the method of producing these products. With the importance of nature
that has been comprehensively characterised in the poem, Keats poetry has shown to be effectively
reflective to the values of Romanticism.
John Keats contributed Romanticism in the Bright Star by emphasizing the redemptive qualities
of a star which purified his inner body and he connected this to expressing his beauty and
inspiration of the love he felt towards his fiancГ©. His imagination in this poem is a great
example of the poetry during the Romantic Age. Keats is dissatisfied with mortality and longs for
eternal life, Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art . Here Keats is revealing his inner
thoughts and feelings to the bright star and is comparing his short life to the star s perminence in
life. He also gives the star human qualities through the use of personification, And watching with
eternal lids apart, Like nature s patient,

Patrick Come To Me Analysis
This is one of the biggest themes in this novel. Because there are so many immigrants to Canada
during the time of the novel (1913 1940), North America is still without language, gestures and
work and bloodlines are the only currency. The novel explores different forms of language besides
words. Patrick comes to live in a Macedonian immigrant community in Toronto; even though he is a
native Canadian, he is isolated by language in his own country. But he learns to relate to those
around him, and at a moment when he is in the Teck Cinema watching a silent film and laughing
out loud, he looks up and catches the eye of someone else laughing, and they have the same
realization that this mutual laughter is conversation. And before this, when

Examples Of Moral Compass
Moral Compass
Navigation helps individuals arrive to a given destination, but the human life also requires of such
navigation. Some individuals unconsciously seek directions when challenged with a given issue
and know which way to steer because of their moral compass. Furthermore, the moral compass is
the soul that guides the personal self, but it is also the non material aspect of a human being that is
immortal. Although, the soul s existence is in question, there is evidence that validates that the soul
is real. Such evidence includes Plato s theory of the tripartite soul and Sigmund Freud s
psychodynamic theory, which reevaluates Plato s theory. Both address that the soul s existence is
the personality of a human being.

Subsequently, greater evidence validates the soul s existence through Plato s theory of the
tripartite soul. Plato s theory is broken down into three separate parts: reason, spirit, and body
appetites. Plato defines reason to be the ability to use logic and language, while spirit is the
emotional drives humans feel such as anger or love. And, he defines body appetites as essentials
that the body requires to survive like food, water, and sex. Additionally, Plato states that together
these parts create a living organism or a human soul whose purpose is to be in a healthy state. To
attain the soul s healthy state all of the three parts must be balance and such balance is only
achieved when the element of reason leads spirit and body appetites. Otherwise the soul will
come across a dysfunction, which can cause further effects. For example, let s say individual X s
soul is not lead by reason, but instead by spirit; and one day X discovers that his girlfriend
cheated. X is not going to act reasonably instead he is going to act upon his emotional drives like
anger and frustration. Those emotional drives then cause his reason to be set aside reasonable
thought leaving a large possibility to become unstable. At an unstable state it can cause X s soul or
personality to be insecure or damaged. This is an example that shows what can occur when

  • 2. An Outdated Relic From The Victorian Era Of Teaching Are grades a state of the art method of assessing one s academic aptitude, or rather, are they an antiquated relic from the Victorian era of teaching? I ask this because as of late, grades have been under heavy scrutiny for corrupting students with the false pretense that good grades are more important than actually absorbing the subject material. The argumentthat students would rather receive a good gradein a course instead of actually gaining a comprehensive understanding of the subject shouldn t be news to anyone. This has been the case for a long time, and many people would fully acknowledge this. Alfie Kohnbrings attention to this unfortunate truth in his piece From Degrading to De Grading, where he exposes many of the existing flaws present in the grading system today. He first does this by listing the three primary main effects of grading. The first being, that grades tend to reduce students interest in the learning itself (Kohn). Secondly he reveals his analysis that grades tend to reduce students preference for challenging tasks (Kohn). And lastly, Kohn expresses his belief that grades tend to reduce the quality of students thinking (Kohn). To give Kohn some credit, he does justify his sentiment toward grades by including somewhat brief explanations annotated to each of the aforementioned effects provided by him. The issue with his argument isn t necessarily that it is factually incorrect, but that the current method of grading is far more effective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Role Of Genius In Plato s Ion The role and knowledge of the artist has been part of the philosophical discourse on art for a very long time. There have been several philosophers who have contributed to the discussion. Plato, in his piece Ion, provides an explanation of knowledge (technique) and inspiration, and how they affect an artist. Platodoes this through the dialogue of Socrates and the rhapsode Ion, whom is an expert in the poems of Homer. Although written long ago, when art wasn t as developed/diverse as it has come to be, the basic concept of knowledge versus inspiration is one that paved the road for future philosophers to further the discussion of the knowledge and role of the artist. From the beginning of the dialogue, it is inferred that Ion is a great rhapsode because he won first place in a contest. However, Ion admits early on that his skill as a rhapsode only apply to when he is reciting the poems of Homer and not others . Socrates responds to Ion: No one can fail to see that you speak of Homer without any art of knowledge. If you were able to speak of him by rules of art, you would have been able to speak of all other poets; for poetry is a whole. (Ion, Plato) This is the beginning of Plato establishing technique when a man has acquired a knowledge of a whole art, the enquiry into good and bad is one and the same. (Ion,Plato) It is clear through this dialogue that Socrates doesn t see Ion as having knowledge/technique due to his inability to understand and perform anything other ... • 4. Stereotypes In Uglies By Scott Westerfeld The image of a person is often something that gets judged very quickly in society. People often see others and instantly think of something about that person. Men, women and children are all outcast for many different reasons. Society judges people for traits including, skin colour, gender, hair color, and body type. The media and society constantly make people feel bad about the way they look. In Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld, the main theme is about finding one s identity in a world that already has one made up for them. Despite this theme, the characters in the novel do not strive to overcome society s stereotypes. The pretties, specials and the uglies do not try to break out of society s ways and find their own identities. After the operations,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This line shows how the specials have very little emotions and feelings. They have a mission and they will do anything to achieve it. Putting their lives on the line, as was the case more for the Suffragists, or leading community rallies, as the Suffragettes, there was no stopping the inevitable. Women would win the right to vote. No doubt the party bus rentals were going nuts in 1918. I m often touted by friends for not being realistic enough for the topic I spend so much time supporting, but I believe, even with all the horrors many women endure, that women can and will unite to free themselves. It may take many more years I m not a prophet, but I know the strength of female energy. We carry life and give birth. I don t see those who are being suppressed remaining in those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Suffrage Movement Beginning in 1848 the worldwide women s rights movement eventually included forty three different countries. The basic rally was for women to be given the equalities of men. Groups were fighting for different laws to be changed within the cultural boundaries of their country, but the bottom line was and still is, that women demand more respect. The two major players on the stage of change for women were known as the Suffragist and the Suffragettes. These two fractions of the whole succeeded in supporting each other to victory. Some would still argue that women, even in developed countries, still have a long way to go before the male/female playing field is completely level. Suffragist Both groups were passionate about their cause, however the Suffragist were more militant about getting their message heard. In the first line he wrote, We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal (U.S. Constitution, paragraph 2). Jefferson wrote these words to give inspiration to future generations in the hopes that they would be able to change what he either would or could not. The word men in the Declaration in the early 1700 and 1800 s meant exactly that, but even then it only was true for some men, not all. In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451, this is precisely the goal of firemen and the majority of society. Guy Montag has been a fireman for ten years, and he has always gotten a certain thrill from starting fires to burn houses containing books to the ground. Then Clarisse McClellan comes along and changes his perspective on everything. She says that firemen did not always use to start fires; they used to put them out, and people were not afraid. I like to smell things and look at things, and sometimes stay up all night, walking, and watch the sun rise (Bradbury 7). Clarisse questions his happiness, and Montag cannot answer confidently that he is fully happy with his life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There must be something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don t stay for nothing (Bradbury 51). He develops a plan with Faber, a man who remembers what the world was like before firemen began burning books. This plan just might be the key to regaining the people s rights and restoring books to their rightful place in society. • 11. Effects Of Rms On The Weekly Calls As RMS continues to indicate, based on our observations and more importantly on the review of assets during our weekly calls with Altisource, RMS continues to believe on many of these assets, the condition or location of the property is the primary driver behind not only the large reduction in list price, but ultimately a sales price well below the initial list price, all of which contribute to extended days on market and an increase in carrying costs incurred by the Trust. We believe one of the contributors to this relates to the Altisource process where the listing agent is not local to the property and typically has not personally visited the assetto assess the condition, the location, drive by the comps and generally may not be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because Altisource cannot be directed to set the list price of an asset, RMS attempts to get Altisource to recognize assets that are listed too high and to make appropriate adjustments that will generate activity and offers. RMS continues to review assets where we believe the list price set by Altisource is high relative to our opinion of market value. On listed assets with DOM of more than 60 days, RMS and Altisource discuss the list price and agent feedback to understand why purchase offers have not been received. RMS targets these assets for review every 2 weeks. Another recent observation is an increase in the number of assets in pending contract that fall out because the buyer fails to return the purchase agreement. This trend has continued to increase over the past several months. Although Altisource does not provide statistics regarding overall fallout, RMS has seen an increase based on our observations and the weekly calls. We believe this relates to the process by which Altisource sells REO assets (on the HUBZU website), where there is no economic penalty to the bidder if they place an offer on a property but fail to deliver an executed purchase agreement (similar to what would happen in a traditional sale transaction). In addition, we believe the lack of agent to agent contact and knowledge of whether a buyer visits the property prior to making an offer also play a role in the increased fallout. • 12. How Does The Endocrine System Contribute To Homeostasis In the human body the internal temperature is maintained at 37 degrees Celsius and this is maintained as a result of homeostasis. Homeostasis is the process of balancing or keeping a stable internal environment in the body. A majority of organ systems in the body contribute to homeostasis, however there are two very important organ systems that play a massive role within this process, and they are the endocrine and nervous system. Both are crucial as they permit communication in the body and the integration of cells as well as tissue functions. The body s internal environment is regulated by three components, they are known as the feedback systems of homeostasis. The feedback system is made up of the receptor, a control center and effector. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once they have been secreted together they form an osmotic equivalent of water so by the time they reach the end of the proximal tubule about two thirds of these fluid have been reabsorbed. The loop of Henle is linked with maintaining that osmotic gradient in the renal medulla. This is achieved by sodium chloride being transported from the tubular fluid ( the interstitium) without changing the osmotic uptake of the water. The osmolality of the water leaving the tube of Henle is lower than the plasma, whilst the interstitium is higher. According to the requirements of the body the distal tubule adjusts the ionic balance of the body by changing the amount of sodium and other substances that are reabsorbed back into the body. It is also responsible for the secretion of hydrogen ions, which leads to the acidification of the urine, because of this, this urine that leaves the distal tubule is dilute. If the osmolality of the urine is relatively high when it passes through the collecting ducts, water is absorbed under the influence of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) and the urine that is concentrated is excreted. However, if the osmolality of the urine is low, little ADH is secreted. To conclude, if the communication between the organs is adequate then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sidewinder Snakes Dr. Joseph Mendelson from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Atlanta Zoo presented his research on the mechanism used by sidewinder snakes for locomotion on sand with the implementation of a robot snake as a model system. The research study involved the collaboration of the physics, engineering and biology departments to further understand the nature of snake movements. Sidewinders are snakes that are able to move on sand at different inclinations because they do not slither but rather employ a different mechanism of movement. Dr. Mendelson was able to determine that the robot snake which mimics a snake that slithers is unable to move on sand with an inclination greater than zero degrees. From the observations of snakes in nature, the results showed that their locomotion is truly optimized based on their repeated operations being maintained in an effective zone. The robot snake was manipulated with different durations and amounts of lifts and contacts that would vary, but be maintained in the ineffective zone due to the failed movement on sand. Another research study involved the examination of the mechanisms employed by sidewinders for turning in a different direction of movement. The results suggested that sidewinders change directions horizontally or vertically by changing the angle of their head. An analysis of the robot snake demonstrated an unobservable locomotion that it is possible to move in both a horizontal and vertical wave movement on the sand in order to change directions via a differential or reversal turning locomotion. Through the investigation of these research studies, Dr. Mendelson and his co researchers were able to discover that in effect sidewinders suffer a cost of being able to implement a different locomotion on inclinations of sand. Sidewinders are not able to avoid obstacles as easily as snakes that slither which can just turn their heads in a slight angle away from the obstacle in order to avoid it. The results showed that the reason for this cost is due to the mechanism that sidewinders use for which the head does not reach the obstacle first to avoid the obstacle beforehand instead of being tangled by it with their body. • 24. Essay On The Fall Of The Western Roman Empire Rome was once the most powerful empire of the Mediterranean. However, overtime Rome s power started failing. The people became less interested in the affairs of the state, and the emperors became less interested in the well being of the people. Overtime the infrastructure of Rome began to fall apart because of the lack of connection between the people and the government which ultimately lead to the many issues that occurred later on in the empire. Not only was the Roman Empirefilled with internal problems, but it also suffered from a variety of external problems such as invasions from different barbaric tribes. The fall of the Western Roman empire was caused by Barbarian invasions, economic decline, and a corrupt government. The most evident factor that led to Rome s downfall was invasion from Barbaric tribes. Rome continued to conquer new lands and expand, but the people of Rome had lost the will to fight. The lack of Roman citizens in the military forced government officials to hire foreigners to fight, most of whom were Barbarians. • 25. Persuasive Essay On Child Labor Laws It is estimated that one in six of the world s children are working in unacceptable conditions and that s about 180 million children worldwide (Kilcullen 218). That is a great deal of children that are exposed to harm or exploitation. The opposing side believes that these poor countries need child laborto survive, that it is alright to pay children low wages for the work they do, and do not believe that schooling is as important as work. By regulating child labor laws, governments would be able to enforce safer working conditions, increase wages to meet the cost of living, and mandate educationfor better opportunities even though the opposing side disputes these reasons and stance. First of all, child labor laws should be regulated so that working conditions are safer. Children s health is diminishing because of the terrible working conditions. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), 23 percent of all children between 5 and 17 years of age were economically active in the year 2000, and that About half of these children are estimated to do work that is likely to harm their health, safety, or moral development (Huebler 4). There is an enormous amount of children that are being harmed at work, and better regulations should be placed to stop this from happening. Children are suffering from injuries at work and the accidents end up unreported. England s Health and Safety Executive says that there are, 31 reportable accidents involving under 16s at work over the past two years, including 16 major injuries and one fatality (White 137). This is why accidents are being under reported, and children that work in illegal industries are worse off. If there are no regulations and nobody is enforcing better and safer work conditions, there will be more children injured each year. On the other hand, the opposing side believes that child labor is necessary in developing countries. Some believe that developing countries need child labor to survive and that parents need their children to work so that they can afford an education and food. Gary Weiner explains, Children who work long hours either get an inferior education, or none at all, and grow up without the necessary skills and education that will ... When problems are not solved between countries, worse case scenario would be to involve the military forces to threaten each other. The United Nation is the mediator amongst these countries to hopefully come into a state of resolution or compromise in order to reduce massive destructions. The economyand trade amongst nations often determine the power, status, and the relations amongst each country as to be either good or bad. Conflict of ideas consists of ethnic, religious, ideological, territorial, governmental, and economic. According to Goldstein and Pevehouse (2014), the first three are conflicts over ideas, the last three conflict over interests (p. 160). Throughout the world, ethnic conflict is the most important source of conflict as it is large groups of people who share ancestral, language, cultural, or religious ties and a common identity. Thus, this is not based on tangible causes, but on intangible ones. Goldstein and Pevehouse (2014) stated that fundamentalist religious movements pose a broad challenge to the rules of the international system in general and state sovereignty in particular (p. 188). This gives a glimpse of how truculent the worms can be, and given the fact that the climate provides a tough environment, the worms can be connected to the climate, because if the climate was not so cruel, and hot, then more precipitation would occur on the planet, and water is poisonous to the worm. Don t you worry about adding too many notches to your belt? How many people have you slept with really? You re definitely getting into trashy territory Rachel. Many times I have heard variations of these quotations being said throughout my life. The real trash is policing someone s sexuality. Slut is a derogatory term used to degrade women s sexuality. In this text I will outline the problems and the harm that slut shaming bestows on women and their sexuality. Slut shaming is detrimental to women s psychological morale, her political standings, and her role and power in society and relationships. In order to better understand slut shaming, an explanation as to why it is a phenomenon in today s society needs to be given. One of my biggest concerns is the fluid usage of the word slut or whore. This phenomenon of slut shaming is mostly seen with teenagers and young adults and thus this is the group I will be focusing on. Young women and men seem to define a slut differently. Women define a slut as 1. A woman who is sexually active, 2. A woman who wears a lot of makeup, 3. A woman who dresses suggestively, 4. A woman who, despite her unpopularity, tries to get the attention of boys, 5. A woman who is assumed to be sexually advanced because her body is more developed, 6. At such present time of my research, I am begging to develop and contextualise a clear understanding of how I will ultimately answer mu question and I have incorporated the aspects of inquiry as well as representativeness and corroboration already into my research. In relation to being a villain, it is clear the wide spread death and his subsequent concern as a result of his movements represents his criminal persona. This is coming across in my main pieces of evidence up to this point. This is also indicating Mao s motives and subsequently the effect it had on a specific group of people, in this case is the Chinese s public. His movements also indicate somewhat his self interest in developing his humongous ideological campaign. Despite this, it is vital I further investigate how in comparison that these movements were responsible for his widespread perception of a hero and as such find a myriad of perspectives that develop a common idea that the implementation of movements such as the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural revolution was specifically the reason for Mao being viewed as a hero.... Pollutants, such as oil, fertilizers and toxic chemicals, have affected the growth of mangroves. These pollutants are all forms of waste produced by humans. Oil spills release large amounts of oil into the mangrove ecosystem. This oil can smother the roots of mangrove trees, which kills the mangroves. Deforestation is caused when many mangrove systems are cut down in order to develop infrastructure on the mangrove site. • 39. Aloe Vera, And The Vitality Of Youth Essay Aloe Vera, also called simply Aloe, is a flowering, cactus like succulent plan that thrives in dry, hot climates, and is believed to be at least 6,000 years old. Kumari is the Ayurvedic name for aloe, and is translated as the vitality of youth (Chopra Simon, 2000, p. 66). Native to Africa ( Aloe, 2016), it is grown in tropical and sub tropical areas ( Aloe UMMC, 2015). Different parts of the plant have different uses. The leaves, which are thick (cactus like) and fibrous, have three layers. The central pulp contains gel that is extracted for use both topical and internal use (Chopra Simon, 2000, p. 67). The fibrous part of the plant is used to make a laxative from the Aloe latex that is extracted. Some products are made using the whole crushed leaf, and contain the latex and gel ( Aloe WebMD, 2016). The gel made from Aloe Vera, either pure or as part of a mixture, is commonly used in moisturizing products for skin, is often included in sun block/sunscreen ( Aloe, 2016). It also has a wide variety of medicinal purposes, including burns, wounds, skin irritations, and constipation both historically and currently. Recently, it has not been recommended for use as a laxative. Today, Aloe is still one of the most common herbs used for a multitude of purposes ( Aloe UMMC, 2015, para. 1). It is also considered as a tonic for the liver (Lad, 2009, p. 130). The Aloe Vera plant is also known as the burn plant (Dossey Keegan, 2016, p. 374) and, as mentioned ... • 42. Romeo And Juliet Light And Dark Imagery Essay Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet contributes a portion of its prosperity due to it s almost exaggerated use of dramatic irony and Light and Dark Imagery, which introduces an almost eccentric way for Romeo and Juliet to express their newfound love. Imagery, perhaps the most common example of any literary devices, is the articulate formation of words to develop a vivid scene in the reader s mind. There are many subcategories of imagery, albeit this particular essay will specifically cover his continuous usage of Light and Dark Imagery , which are forms of imagery that reference nouns resembling literal light objects in conjunction with being good objects, and dark objects being bad objects. Interestingly enough, just how Light and Dark imagery are polar opposites, the family feud between the Capulet and Montague family compose of most of the conflicts in this play. However, Light and Dark imagery are also used to convey and even exaggerates Romeo s love for Juliet, and Juliet s love for Romeo. The second scene primarily consists of Romeo and his remarks for Juliet, as seen here: It is the east, and Juliet is the sun/Arise, fair sun, and kill the moon(2.2.4 5) It is evident that this quotation by Romeo has examples of both light and dark imagery.
