Abstract
In order to visualize and conceptualize the affect of the contact angle on impact force, testing of four
different shapes and comparing the results was done. Conclusions were drawn on the affects of the
type of contact surface on the measured impact force. In analyzing these results, it was also be of
interest to calculate the theoretical force using a derivation of equations and comparing them to the
measured data. Doing so may allow for further understanding concerning the possible errors in
calculations or possible mis assumptions being made.
Because theoretical results and measured results did not agree within reasonable ... Show more content

This allows the theoretical data to further validate the measured data. Because the hemispherical shape
had error bars which did not overlap, the data corrections were made to that particular set of data.
Refer to Figures 5 and 6 to see how these error bars either did not overlap or came close to not
overlapping.
Notice in Figures 9 and 10 the comparisons in the before calculated force compared to that of the
corrected forces. Specific data on these corrections may be found in Tables 7 and 8 in the Appendix.

Figure 10: Corrected data with errors for hemispherical shape with the large nozzle

Table 4: Uncorrected data for inverted cone
Conclusions and Recommendations
This experiment effectively showed that the resultant impact force acting on the different target shapes
changed depending on the shape, which is affected by the contact angle. Further analysis of the data
also showed that some beginning assumptions were incorrect, allowing insight on the reasoning for
incorrect data percentages. These were corrected via further derivations in the

The Philippine Insurrection
The Philippine Insurrection of 1899 1902 was a little different than most insurgencies. Using Mao s 3
phases of an insurgency, which I will break down below.
The native demand for liberation from Spain had been building since the 1880s. In 1892 a poor
warehouseman by the name of Andres Bonifacio organized a group called the Katiunan, hoping to
drive the Spaniard s out of the Philippines. As in other insurgencies, we are seeing groups coming
together for the same objective, but not all insurgent groups get along. In 1896 after a reign of terror
against the islanders, Emilio Aguinaldo, a rival group leader, took over leadership by having Bonifacio
executed. The insurgency was forced into the hills, but the fighting continued. The people wanted
Spain out and supported an independent Philippines. In 1897 Spain paid Aguinaldo off to stop the
fighting and sent him to Hong Kong. This put the insurgency back into survival mode and brought a
temporary peace.
Aguinaldo made a pact with the United States which was at war with Spain at the time. With the
assistance of Commodore Dewey they were able to have a decisive victory over the Spanish in
Manila. June 12th then became Philippine Independence Day in 1898. The Americans seemed
reluctant to leave and in December Spain formally ceded the Philippines to the United States in the
Paris Peace Treaty. In January 1899 Aguinaldo staged an inauguration of the First Philippine Republic.
This was an uneasy peace, because what was

Who Was To Blame For The Sinking Of The Titanic
The Titanic was a ship that sunk during its maiden voyage in 1912. This big ship was on it s way to
New York when it struck an iceberg. It was believed to be unsinkable but that night it met it s fate and
sunk killing many passengers. As the story goes they say it s the icebergs fault for the sinking of the
ship. When in reality, the White Star Line was truly at fault for the sinking of the Titanic. They are
responsible for this tragedy because they went full speed after ignoring six ice warnings. Not only that
but they should ve thought of the consequences when they decided to take off lifeboats for more room
for luxury items. Then they weren t prepared and never had any drills or safety procedures for if the
ship were to sink. It

Fear In Literature Of H. G. Wells And Ray Bradbury
Fear is the driving force behind change. When a human being feels they are in danger, the response is
to protect themselves. Traumas or bad experiences can trigger a fear response within us that is hard to
quell. Yet exposing ourselves to our personal demons is the best way to move past them (Sussex
People, 1). Some people will approach the thrill lifestyle willingly, while others will stay away from it
at all costs. When interpreting literature, it is important to understand what was the cause of the
writing. In most science fiction pieces, the answer is fear.
This same truth is evident in the literary works of two authors who shared similar ideas due to
catastrophes going on in the world around them. H.G. Wells grew up during an industrial advancement
in Europe. This advancement impacted the wars that were going on greatly. Killing was made more
efficient and less personal. This affected the morals of the European society.
H.G. Wells noticed the issue, and addressed them in his writing. Ray Bradbury also grew up in a time
of war. The development of nuclear biological warfare greatly impacted his career. His fear of the end
of the world by technology was the supreme basis of all of his works. By applying a historical lense,
readers can observe that H.G Wells and Ray Bradbury are afraid of modernising technology due to
their fear of bad ethics.
The idea of being invisible has always been in the imaginations of children and regarded as a cool
science. H.G. Wells confronts

The Advantages Of Homeschooling
Homeschooling
Homeschooling something that s grown over time and is become popular in homes. The children are
taught at home, by either the parents or a teacher that comes to the home a few times a week, or every
day like normal schooling. Children being schooled at home get many options when learning, and also
get to grow around the home. Homeschooling is a smart idea for parents to consider for their kids
because of different socioeconomic factors in the child s life, keeps the child safer, and gives them
more opportunity to use religious instruction in what they are learning.
When parents are choosing to homeschool, or put their children in public schools they look at the
different socioeconomic factors in their lives. These socio economic problems help in the decision to
homeschool their children. Depending on how many kids are living in the home, it may be easier to
homeschool their kids instead of on sending them to public school. homeschooled students were more
likely than public or private schooled students who are living in families with three or more children
(Princiotta and Bielick, Web). Parents that are living with three or more children, it is easier for the
parents to school from the home instead of sending them all to public school. If the guardians were
tight with money and couldn t afford to buy uniforms or buy them all the clothes they all need, it
would be a lot cheaper to have them hand me downs for the children. Another thing is if the children

Parable Of Despair By Octavia Butler
Thomas Sweeny Wong
Period 5
Parable of Despair
The world is dying.
There is too much injustice.
We need to fix it. Thomas Sweeny Wong
The future is tough to predict. Parable of the Sower is a very well written science fiction novel by
Octavia Butler. The setting is California in the year 2025. The world is not prosperous anymore and
has turned into a poverty stricken place. There are countless homeless people, jobs are scarce, and
there are very few communities of homes. The few communities that are still occupied have huge
walls with barbed wire and laser wire surrounding them. There are robberies, murders, and rapes just
about every day. People walk the streets naked and bloody because their clothes were stolen or they
could never find any. Some people live in the hills like animals. They kill anything that comes along,
human or not, for food and to protect their territory. Some of these people are drug addicts who create
fires for their own satisfaction. Everyone who has a chance to live must carry a gun so no one can
harm or try to do anything to them. In this society the police do not help because you have to pay them
to come to the scene of a crime. Most people cannot afford to pay their fees so they handle whatever
they can on their own. The protagonist of this story, Lauren, decides to leave this society for
something better an forms a spiritual group called Earthseed. The word earthseed is actually a
metaphor.
The dominant metaphor of the

Nonoriginalist Adjudication
Nonoriginalist Adjudication: A Troubling Approach to Constitutional Interpretation
In the 1980 law review, The Misconceived Quest for the Original Understanding , Paul Brest
challenges traditional approaches to Constitutional interpretation by proposing non originalist
adjudication, a method that accords the text and original history of the Constitution presumptive
weight, but does not treat them as authoritative or binding (p. 70). This method directly conflicts with
originalism, the method of interpretation supported by Antonin Scalia, but generally agrees with
semantic intentionalism, the approach proposed by Ronald Dworkin. The difference in the outcome of
nonoriginalist interpretation is especially seen in cases involving ... Show more content on

While Scalia detests this modern method, Brest argues in favor of it. Brest contends that although the
founders intended the amendment process to accommodate the changing needs of an advancing
society, it serves this purpose poorly. He claims that the amendment process is too slow and unwieldy
to adapt the Constitution to a society which constantly must apply the Constitution to situations the
founders could not have even imagined. Moreover, the changes required by society often are not
extensive enough to warrant an amendment. Therefore, slightly changing the interpretation of a clause
can better accommodate these minor, but necessary changes. Brest argues for gradual, more organic
evolution of the Constitutional through adapting its interpretation; in contrast, Scalia says that we must
use the routes of change provided for this very purpose in the Constitution itself, as anything different
would be irreverent to the fundamental principles of our Constitution.
Paul Brest and Ronald Dworkin differ somewhat in theory, as semantic intentionalism treats the
Constitution as a broad moral guideline, while nonoriginalism treats it as unauthoritative; nonetheless,
they are quite similar in that they both fundamentally disagree with narrow, specific reading of the

A Report On Stockholm Syndrome
Abstract
According to the United States Department of Justice reports, each year nearly 800,000 children are
claimed to be missing. This shows that each day, over 2,000 children are reported missing.
Kidnappings occur for a variety of reasons, and at the hands of many different people ( Children
Exploitation and Obscenity Section , n.d.). For example, the United States Department of Justice
claims that 203,000 children are kidnapped by family members annually, while 58,200 are abducted
by individuals outside of the family annually ( Children Exploitation and Obscenity Section , n.d.).
Kidnappings occur more frequently than the public realizes. The physical and psychological affects
being kidnapped has on the victim varies for each individual. One reaction to hostile kidnappings or
hostage situations is the development of Stockholm syndrome. According to the FBI law enforcement
bulletin, Understanding Stockholm Syndrome by De Fabrique, Romano, Vecchi, and Van Hasselt
(2007), nearly 27% of kidnapping victims display signs of Stockholm syndrome.
Kidnapping Victims and Stockholm Syndrome
What is Stockholm Syndrome Stockholm syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which the
victim identifies with their captor (Namnyak, Tufton, Szekely, Toal, Worboys, Sampson, 2008). This
may be apparent through sympathy, positive feelings toward their captor, and some even defend their
kidnapper (Namnyak, et. al., 2008). The syndrome arises from the stress of the fear when the

Analysis Of Six Degrees Of Separation
Six Degrees of Separation Review Within the architecture of theatre, every showing of a play is
different from the last, and no one showing will be the same as the next. Six Degrees of Separation
was performed in the Harriet Fulton Theatre at the University of Tennessee at Martin on November
2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I observed the play during its only matinee performance on Sunday, the 5th.
The play was set in a flat above Central Park in New York City, 1900. Written by John Guare, Six
Degrees of Separation centers around the complexity of classism, sexual promiscuity, and the ideology
that no matter an individual s societal status, one is only separated from another human being by the
course of six people and in finding the right six ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When more than one or two actors were conversing at another location , they were shoved into a
small, solid black rectangle of the stage that was supposed to represent whatever section of New York
they were placed. I did not like this aspect at all. They could have split the stage in half between the
outside locations and the apartment of Ouisa and Flan to better accommodate the scenes that made no
sense of being held in their apartment. The play begins with a couple, Ouisa and Flan, performed by
Erin Criswell and Mark Connell, discussing academic knowledge over a few particular pieces of
artwork with an interested buyer: Geoffrey, acted by Dillion Davis. To be frank, the beginning made
very little sense to me. Stylistically, I do not place blame on the actors as I believe that Guare intended
the start of the production to be confusing for the audience as to emphasize the separation between the
upper class and the generally, middle class audience that would have observed this play. By not
knowing the words brought forth by the actors, I was immediately perplexed and separated from the
aristocratic lifestyle presented before me. Theatrically, I do believe pronunciation could have been
articulated more and believe nervousness got to a few of the actors as they stumbled over lines and
their words flew

The Critical Opprobrium Of Volcanoes
The media has engendered the critical opprobrium of volcanoes with their triumphant essays at
delineating volcanic eruptions so as to give the impression that they are devastating and precarious. As
a result, the negative stigma encompassing volcanoes and their concomitants permeates all walks of
life. Under the nourishment of ignorance and fear, which are constituents of the human condition,
antipathy multiplies. Ergo, Homo sapiens, possessing complex cognitive neural processes, are
predisposed to the fallacious notion that assumes volcanoes have deleterious effects on the progression
of humankind. The precise definition of the term volcano is profoundly convoluted, as a myriad of
labyrinthine systems engage in volcanic activity. On loci where ... Show more content on

The article, Volcanic Soils , states that loam within the confines of Mount Vesuvius and the regions its
ejections once engulfed is so fertile that farmers frequently plant different crops intermingled with one
another in order to maximize the utilization of every square inch available. This practice is called
intercropping, and is highly esteemed for its pecuniary benefits. When implemented, it enables the
optimum exploitation of resources, provides indemnity against total crop failure, and induces the
greatest yield. Moreover, well vegetated volcanic terrains that kindle allure entice tourists. For
example, the article, On the Slopes of Mauna Loa, Hawaii Island , visitors flock to Highway 11, a
route from the west coast of Hawaii that approaches the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Travelers
are mesmerized by the topography of the island, a profuse of greenery that was stimulated by volcanic
eruptions. Tourism wields tremendous monetary influence; it is one of the world s most significant
sources of economic stability. Tourism creates jobs, both through direct employment within the
tourism industry and indirectly within sectors such as retail and transportation. When laborers spend
their wages on goods and services, it gives rise to what is known as the multiplier effect , producing
more jobs. The tourism industry also offers opportunities for small scale business enterprises, which is
particularly salient in rural communities. It engenders extra tax revenues, which can be used to
generate funds for local institutions, including schools and hospitals. Moreover, volcanic soils play an
integral role in the lucrative dairy industry of The North Island of New Zealand, which is bountiful in
volcanic loam. Volcanic soils are felicitous for pasture growth because of how well they retain water
for plants, subsequently resulting in verdant pasturelands. Volcanoes appease our materialistic

Dumpster Diving Eighner
Eighner chooses to dive into dumpsters not because he needs the material items he finds, but rather
because he does not. In the conclusion of his essay On Dumpster Diving, Eighner makes it clear that
he believes excess material objects are unnecessary and that they do more harm than good for a
person, and this is true. Eighner accurately describes how having large amounts of material goods
does nothing to improve the well being or morality of the human race because holding onto physical
possessions leads to the development of bad habits and traits within society.
Having more material possessions makes people less grateful for what they have and more likely to be
wasteful. In his essay, Eighner describes how college students throw out many good things, including
food. Because the students are accustomed to having so many material possessions, they do not think
twice before throwing a portion of it into the dumpster. On the other hand, Eighner thinks of himself
as very non materialistic, so he only takes what he needs and is not wasteful because he does not have
many remains or unused items to throw away. It might not seem ... Show more content on

who were constantly racing to get more material goods. From radios, to the newest appliances, to

these items, so they turned to the stock market (Garraty 426). The materialistic greed within
Americans led them to recklessly buy thousands of stocks in hopes securing more money, but the

Analysis Of Samuel Huntington s The Clash Of The...
Samuel Huntington, the author of the clash of the civilisations believes that the World will eventually
divide in accordance with cultural lines, and not political lines. According to Huntington, the thriving
East Asian and Muslim societies will soon challenge Western dominance, and the United States being
the World leader will need to reevaluate its policies on foreign invention and domestic immigration to
remain a major player. During the Cold War, the world was divided into the First, Second and Third
Worlds. Huntington views these ties as insignificant now and states that the remaking of the World
order will be based upon cultural similarity. The different thriving civilisations according to him today
are the Western civilisation comprising of North America and Western Europe, the Muslim
civilisation, the Orthodox Civilisation led by Russia, the Chinese civilisation, the Hindu civilisation,
the Japanese civilisation, the Latin American civilisation and the African civilisation. Huntington s
proposition of the division of the World according to cultural lines has been backed by the use of
various examples by him; examples of events that have taken place in the past.
An example supporting Huntington s notion would the breaking up of Yugoslavia into six independent
states namely Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro. This
break up was caused due to ethnic and religious differences. It is also interesting to point out that the

Essay Keynesian Economics
Macroeconomics is the branch of economics concerned with the aggregate, or overall, economy.
Macroeconomics deals with economic factors such as total national output and income,
unemployment, balance of payments, and the rate of inflation. It is distinct from microeconomics,
which is the study of the composition of output such as the supply and demand for individual goods
and services, the way they are traded in markets, and the pattern of their relative prices.
At the basis of macroeconomics is an understanding of what constitutes national output, or national
income, and the related concept of gross national product (GNP). The GNP is the total value of goods
and services produced in an economy during a given period of ... Show more content on

If, however, some rigidity prevented wages from falling to the point where supply and demand for
labor were at equilibrium, then unemployment could persist. Such an obstacle could be, for example,
trade union action to maintain minimum wages or minimum wage legislation.
Keynes s major innovation was to argue that persistent unemployment might be caused by a
deficiency in demand for production or services, rather than by a disequilibrium in the labor market.
Such a deficiency of demand could be explained by a failure of planned (intended) investment to
match planned (intended) savings. Savings constitute a leakage in the circular flow by which the
incomes earned in the course of producing goods or services are transferred back into demand for
other goods and services. A leakage in the circular flow of incomes would tend to reduce the level of
total demand. Real investment, known as capital formation (the production of machines, factories,
housing, and so on), has the opposite effect it is an injection into the circular flow relating income to
output and tends to raise the level of demand.
In the earlier classical models of unemployment, such as the one

The issue of legalizing marijuana has been prominent in news headlines recently with Washington and
Colorado s new laws on using marijuana for recreational use. The problems stem from the vast
difference of opinion between those who support the new laws and those who oppose them. The
supporters of legalizing marijuana argue that the police resources that are being used for trying to
prosecute users of marijuana could be better used for violent crimes such as murder and rape.
Supporters also argue that marijuana has far more positive properties than negative ones. Those who
oppose the legalization state that marijuana is a gateway to other more harmful drugs such as

Marijuana also does not, in itself, cause people to use hard drugs. Marijuana is the most popular illicit
drug in our nation. Therefore, people who use less popular drugs such as heroin or cocaine are more
likely to have used marijuana as well. The majority of marijuana users never try any other illegal drug
and the vast majority of those who do try other drugs never become addicts or go on to have any other
associated problems (97). The short term effects of marijuana include almost immediate, temporary
changes in thought patterns, perceptions, and data processing. The cognitive process most clearly
affected is your short term memory. In several lab studies, patients under the influence of marijuana
have little to no trouble remembering things they learned before usage, however they displayed little
capacity to learn and remember new information. This lowered rate only lasts for the duration of the
high. There is no conceivable evidence that heavy long term marijuana use may permanently impair
memories or other brain functions (43). There has never in history been a case of a marijuana
overdose. This is most likely because the estimated amount for an overdose is about 70 times more
than what is needed to get high. Marijuana has

This book is about a family that lives in Flint, Michigan that traveled to Birmingham, Alabama where
Mrs. Watson grew up. Byron is going to have to stay with her for the whole summer or until he learns

Then the family meets Grandma Sands new boyfriend, which Mrs. Watson isn t so pleased about that

Summary Of The Book Between Shades Of Gray
Generally, an author will write in accordance with their personal beliefs and opinions. Therefore,
anything an author writes will lean towards their viewpoint on any particular issue. Books written
about heavy topics, such as war, will have many opinions in them. Whether they are written to express
thoughts, or if they are just present in the story, you cannot deny the existence of them. Between
Shades of Gray is no different. Ruta Sepetys has personally seen the effects of Lithuanians in World
War II, and knows how bad the truth is. With this book, she explores the horrors faced by the Baltic
Sea nations under Soviet rule. One of the many social issues examined in Between Shades of Gray is
the practise of forced deportation. In history, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Chamber Of Commerce V. Whiting
Alexandra Kulak Issue Analysis Chamber of Commerce v. Whiting 10.24.2014 Chamber of
Commerce v. Whiting was a Supreme Court decision regarding the Legal Arizona Workers Act, which
penalized businesses and proprietors in Arizona that hired illegal immigrants, and required that
businesses check the citizenship status of their potential employees using the e verify system. Various
civil rights groups as well as businesses, collectively titled Chamber of Commerce , claimed the
federal Immigration Reform and Control Act preempted these statutes in the Arizona law. The state
law was upheld in 2011. Immigration is a contentious issue in politics that seems to be stagnating.
There is a massive population of illegal immigrants, and some people feel they should be granted
amnesty, while others think they should all be deported back to their respective home countries. The
question of how to handle their American born children is another issue altogether. There are many
moral questions to consider. It is controversial, and some state laws, like the one in question in this
court case, raise more questions about how to handle the problem of illegal immigrants and legal
immigrants vying for the same opportunities. The Chamber of Commerce sued the Governor of
Arizona, on the grounds that the statues in the Arizona state law went beyond what the federal law in
place allowed for. It is considered politically correct to not discriminate, especially when it comes to

Female Empowerment In Kesa
While female empowerment is crucial to being a feminist, female empowerment sometimes
undermines being a woman through word choice and subliminal messages. Female empowerment for
pop singer Kesha has been a constant throughout her songs, albeit sometimes raunchy or dirty like in
her early years. Those songs that are supposed to be empowering but are still sort of perverse show
how there is actually a hidden ideology about what it means to be an empowered woman. However,
that hidden ideology is often undercut but the initial interpretation or reading of the work. While
Kesha s female power anthem Woman highlights being independent of a man, it actually highlights
how women and their independence is undermined by continuously being compared to what men can
do and using standards brought about by the heteronormative categorization of woman.
From the beginning of Kesha s hit song, she exclaims that she is independent because she buys her
own things and pays her own bills. It certainly is empowering for women to be proud of earning their
money without any help, and it should be seen as a sign of independence. What is so great about her
first verse is that she actually accomplishes all of those things, so she has some credibility behind her
words. As great as that is, she is also implying that these are the things that make her an independent
woman, that these things define what it means to be an independent woman. Any feminist would
argue that being able to afford your

Prejudice In The Lion King
My process of semiosis is one of peaceful tranquility. In Dustin Kaufman s creative, semiotic process,
there is no cacophonous storm that immediately follows the relaxing calm nature in which I strive to
work. There is just that: calm. Ironically, my work is almost entirely made up of calamitous actions.
Guns, death, and blood. Bullets tear through flesh in an orgy of stylish gore; a rape of the senses. The
kind of stuff that sends shivers speeding up the spines of the decent and politically correct whilst
bringing a gleeful yet euphoric sense of joy to both the audience and creator. Like most boys growing

I crafted an absurd tale of a student, fed up and bored with the monotony of school work, who takes a

the media creator, this film was a fun, completely senseless, for lack of a better word, retarded romp of
action and comedy which was warmly received by faculty and peers, and the online audience as well,
coming in with several thousand views on YouTube. I was immensely pleased with the outcome, but
left both puzzled and humbled by the feedback of one of my professors, who saw not just a goofy

Obviously, I did not craft the film with such ideas in mind, but if there is one thing Columbia has

Ricketts Glen State Park Waterfalls
There are 24 named waterfalls in Ricketts Glen State Park in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania along
Kitchen Creek as it flows in three steep, narrow valleys, or glens. They range in height from 9 feet

colonel in the American Civil War who owned over 80,000 acres (32,000 ha) in the area in the late
19th and early 20th centuries, but spared the old growth forests in the glens from clearcutting. The

Unit 2 English Literature Research Paper
10) How did the increase in literary styles increase our understanding of this period? How did the
political climate influence the quantity and content of literary works? Why do you think there were so
many new forms of literature introduced during the first and second centuries? When researching or
studying many of the early centuries civilizations and empires one of the largest struggles is depicting
what is fact or fiction. This due mostly to the fact that much of the history of these civilizations was
passed down from generation to generation or communicated with other groups of people by way of

Public Policy Vs. Administration
Public Policy and Administration is an interesting and important knowledge for all people. Every one
on this earth, regardless of his profession, hobbies, or religious views, faces these concepts. This paper
is going to describe the concepts of public policy and administration and an importance of this area for
effective and efficient management.
A public policy is an activity that has a good combination between politics and administrative
activities. The major goal of public administration are established and introduced to political actors.
So, a public policy sets the goals for public administration.
The state policy chooses the direction, in which the state develops. Interests of the state determine the
direction of its development. An experienced politician should always be a cautious man who knows
what will be important for people tomorrow and after five or ten years. This quality will allow him or
her to motivate people and to develop the country in needed sectors.
In order to avoid a political crisis, the government should not only clearly determine a list of priorities
for people, but also represent their current and long term interests. This way, the public policy will be
properly developed and will have an accurate strategic line. The government will also manage to
control the situation inside the country and become a significant player in the international political
arena.
According to some scholars, public administration is an organizational and regulating

Prostitution
Casual sex for currency has been a major part of history that many upstanding citizens frown upon or
overlook completely. ?Wherever we find evidence of human culture, we find evidence of
prostitution.? (Fanni) Prostitution may in fact be the world?s oldest profession; as early as the third
millennium B.C. In ancient times, prostitution was a way of worshipping and honoring the gods.
The first major civilization, Mesopotamia, honored the goddess Ishtar with money earned from
prostitution. The goddess Ishtar was a reflection of the planet Venus, and was reborn in the morning
only to become a ?whore? at night.
Ancient civilizations treated prostitution with little hypocrisy and an open mind. ?Prostitutes were
regarded as little more than objects to be paid a handful of coins they were also seen as a public
necessity.? Today prostitution could be more than it has ever been due to new medications and means
of protection, precautions are known and can be taken to make this job safer than it has ever been,
ultimately giving unemployed men and women who are interested a chance; currency for sex has
always been the way of mankind and will continue to be a part of mankind throughout the future.

World Trade Center Collapse Case Study
So many changes had come about when the World Trade Center collapsed. Engineers and design
teams all across the country came together and wanted to make changes to buildings they build today
to reduce to number of fatalities and to have more means of egress in case of an emergency. Not even
years after the terriorist attacks, they came up with some changes that would help out the situation and
came up with some new safety regulations. Some of them include additional stairways in buildings.
More stairways in buildings is great when buildings exceed more than 1,000 plus people inside a

Synthesis Of 2-Methyl-1-Butene Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize 2 methyl 1 butene and 2 methyl 2 butene. We later
confirmed the alkenes in each product with Baeyer and Bromine test. Through Gas liquid
chromatography we could calculate the yield percentage. E1 and E2 are similar yet, different
reactions. In the E1 reaction, the rate determining step is the loss of the leaving group when the mixed
with a solvent and an energy source is provided, in this case it was heat. This step produces a
carbocation. A tertiary carbocation is preferred because it is more stable than a primary or secondary
carbocation. The solvent takes a Hydrogen away from the beta carbon and the pair of electrons go to
the bond between the alpha and beta carbon creating an alkene, as shown in Figure 1. Essentially, E1
is two steps, the loss of a leaving group and a formation of a carbocation. Figure 1. Mechanism of E1
reaction. The image above shows an example of the mechanism behind the E1 reaction. The leaving
group, Bromine, leaves and a carbocation is present as a result. In E2 reaction, a strong base is used.

Getting Rid Of Zoos Essay
Getting Rid of Zoos
Why should we get rid of zoos? Many people enjoy going to zoos. However, they don t think about
animals who live in zoos. Zoos collect different animals in one environment, but not all animals live in
this environment. No place can keep different animals in their environment in small place because
nobody can change the weather. We should get rid of zoos for two reasons.
Frist, there is no place like home, and a zoo is not home for an animal. There are some animals live in
wild, such as elephants and lions. Zoos take animals out of wild into place which is not same as their
environment. In the wild, chimpanzees don t venture beyond 5 meters from their mothers until they
reach 3 years of age. In captivity, new borns are often torn away from their mothers to be sold or
exploited for photo ops. Most animals like elephants suffer from the small space in zoos, so they
cannot walk as much as in their homes. According to Wells (2016) Like so many of her captive peers,

The Liberation of Aunt Jemima by Betye Saar
When we look at this piece, we tend to see the differences in ways a subject can be organized and
displayed. This assemblage by Betye Saar shows us how using different pieces of medium can bring
about the wholeness of the point of view in which the artist is trying to portray. So in part, this piece
speaks about stereotyping and how it is seen through the eyes of an artist.
At 1st glance this piece does look like a photograph, even a painting, but this series is a work of mixed
media layered one on top of the other in a box. Yet this assemblage of random found objects, with the

By doing this, Saar dramatically changes the viewer s perspective of the piece, and utterly alters the
image. This could mean several things, she could be depicting the fact that this woman is expressing
that she will go to war for her race, and does not care about what questions arise about her and her
beliefs.
Saar, now draws us to the outermost part of the assemblage. Here we see a completely different
depiction of Aunt Jemima. This Jemima stands holding a white child on one of her hips, with a smile
that can kill you on her face or a don t mess with me smile. She is also depicted standing behind a
white picket fence with a white sheet draped over it. This could be seen as something that can be
defined as complex, based on how the viewer depicts it. Going forward, the sheet is almost obsolete,
due to a brown fist raised in the black power salute. This gives us a sense that Aunt Jemima is
transformed from a negative stereotype, to an independent, assertive, strong individual human being.
Saar has given us the sense that she has seized control of this piece to define identity. She is also
holstering this pistol, which also shows the viewer that she will fight for what she believes in. As a
Mammy it s seen by the white population that she has nothing worth fighting for, but as we can see,
the white child she is bearing helps ease the role of Motherhood and Nurturer. She takes it a step
further by giving everyone ample time

Behind Closed Doors In Girl By Jamaica Kincaid
After diving much into the short story, Girl by Jamaica Kincaid, a casual reader would nonchalantly
read this short story, and observe the strict mentoring or teaching aspect. Like most stories there
should be a sense of curiosity when we read them. Inspecting this story on a more personal level has
opened many doors of speculation. Applying the phrase behind closed doors literally, we are going to
dive deeper into the story. Looking not only at the story itself, but also finding nits and bits of the
story that gives a larger insight on the writer and her intentions. As briefly stated before, the story

Kincaid, being from the two Caribbean island of Antigua and Barbuda, is basically Caribbean. Which
could give the story more of a different feel, depending on where it takes place. Being raised in a
Caribbean household, and having mostly Caribbean friends, I was widely exposed to this lifestyle. The
parents were harsher towards their children, when punishing or giving lectures. Another point which
gives hint to the Caribbean viewpoint is the phrase that comes up in the story. Which says but I don t
sing benna on Sundays at all and never in Sunday school. Two point of views come out of this, one
being the idea of benna, which is simply Calypso music. Which is a music that originated in the
Caribbean islands. Another being the emphasis on the day of Sunday. Minor sentence, but gives a lot
of information in the few words it gives. Growing up my mother not only spoke about church, but
emphasized going on Sundays, which is different for many different backgrounds. Jewish being a
prime example, considering they attend temple on Saturday. So taking into consideration the author
and key terms used in the story, it could point to a culture. And with culture comes a lifestyle and
practice which should be taken into much consideration when reading stories from unknown

The Effects Of Enhanced Personal Responsibility And Choice
Introduction This experimental study was carried out to examine the effects of enhanced personal
responsibility and choice on a group of residents who were living in a decision free nursing home
environment. The experiment consisted of two groups; the experimental group that was given
effective communication with emphasis on their personal responsibility and choice, while the
communication given to the second or comparison group stressed the responsibilities of the
institutional staff toward them. Furthermore, the experimental group was granted the self
determination (freedom) to make choices and the responsibility of caring for a plant of their own
choosing, instead of having decisions made and the plant been cared for them by the institutional staff,
as was the case for the comparison group. Also, the ratings of two different questionnaires and the
measures of certain aspects of behavior such as alertness, happiness, activity participations, and a
general sense of well being were tested for statistical significance (Langer and Rodin, 1976, p.191).

Because even in this century, economic and social injustices still exist, I believe it would have been
great to discuss this all so known topic. I grew up in poverty, so I know first hand how unfair society
can be. My family had to work hard for what they had. We also were considered minorities. My
family struggled to make ends meet, things weren t handed to us. We had to earn them. I was able to
experience how easy things were for those who were wealthy. I also remember seeing my family
struggle to put on the table. They always did what they could to ensure my siblings and I had what we
needed. We had no money for frivolous things. I also as a young child would go into stores and look at
toys, wishing I could afford them; questioning why the wealthy had the privilege of spending money
on unnecessary things. It was just like the kids from the story; wondering why would people spend
that kind of money on something that seems worthless to them. Not only is The Lesson a good
example of the economic injustices, it is also a good example of social inequality. Jerome Cartwright
explains that the story had multiple lessons; however, he primarily focuses on the economic injustices
of the conflict between the rich and the poor. There are a few underlying themes that Cartwright
describes, such as social injustices, further education and most importantly the value of the lessons. It
can be argued that the economic injustices are a result of the ignorance

validity often go unquestioned, and, once their statement has been penned, the accused s fate is usually
sealed before they enter the courtroom. Confessions are often generated through the interrogation

One of the most popular and effective of these approaches is the supplementation of false information
into a scenario that the person being questioned was a part of (Wade, Green, and Nash 2010). If a
person witnessed an event and is forced to recollect said event, they will likely only remember the key
details. However, when asked to recollect on the finer aspect of the event, people will create false
memories in order to fill the gap (Gerrie, Belcher, and Garry 2006). This is evident by a recent
memory test in which subjects confidently but falsely remembered 17% of unseen information from
[an] event that they were shown multiple times and asked to recollect on it (Gerrie, Belcher, and Gary
2006 p. 689). Because it is evident that people will form their own memories regarding supplementary
information about an event they experienced, it is no stretch of the imagination that this fact can be
abused in order to form memories that suit someone else s narrative.
An accepted explanation for the induction of false memories is taken from a popular theory known as
the Fuzzy Trace Theory of FTT (Porter and Baker 2015). This theory suggests that there are two types
of memories processes: verbatim, which traces the exact aspects of an event, and gist traces, which
follow the semantics or the connotative elements. These suggestive techniques can be so effective that

The New Of Colonial America
America
Colonial America was the era when America was made up of different colonies; in this case there were
thirteen. Colonial America lasted from 1587 to 1770, 183 years long. As said before, there were
thirteen colonies: four New England colonies, four Middle colonies, and five Southern colonies. The
New England colonies were New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts,
otherwise known as the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The four Middle colonies were New York,
Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and
Maryland made up the Southern colonies. These colonies were located in North America, along the
Atlantic coast. Although these were the main colony groups, the very first colony was founded at
Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. People settled in the colonies in North America to have a better life, and
to escape persecution from people with different beliefs. The next colony, founded in 1620 by the
Pilgrims, was Plymouth, Massachusetts. Native Americans assisted the Pilgrims when they first
arrived at Plymouth. Two of the Native Americans were Samoset and Squanto, an English speaking
Pawtuxet, who was kidnapped by Europeans, but was later freed. Another colony that was helped by
Native Americans was Virginia, where tobacco was used as a cash crop that helped Virginia prosper.

The Mermaid And Disney s The Little Mermaid

Andersen s The Little Mermaid vs. Disney s The Little Mermaid:
The Struggle to Find Sexuality Walt Disney s movies have been thrilling young children, most
especially young girls, around the world for years. One specific movie, The Little Mermaid, had
young girls wanting to be just like Ariel and buying any paraphernalia they could after the movie came
out. But have you ever wondered where these stories have come from? Or why they always end with a
happily ever after ? The famous, Danish, children s writer Hans Christian Andersen is the father of the
tale of The Little Mermaid . Andersen s original is quite different than Walt Disney s happily ever after
tale. With differences in imagery, theme, and storyline in Andersen s The Little Mermaid and Walt
Disney s The Little Mermaid, there is a lot to be said for Andersen s emphasis on the female character
of the Little Mermaid as well as her struggle in finding her sexuality through various different events
and aspects of her life. Andersen s tale begins with the background of the Little Mermaid s life and
family. There seems to be a sort of emphasis on her and her sisters lack of a mother, but rather a
grandmother who stands in as mother as well as a sea king as a father. The lack of a mother is a key
part in the growing and maturity of the princess herself. Finn Hauberg Mortensen, a Danish scholar,

subject of giving a special flavor to this drink. And the truth is that there are many ways we can

My favorite way to enjoy coffee is a good cup of espresso made properly, with good freshly ground
natural grains, quality water and respecting the right temperatures, without too much sweetening. But
from time to time I like to try other options, and add special aromas depending on the day. My

Then another option is to aromatize the moment to sweeten the drink . Different sweeteners provide
different shades, for example using cane syrup or maple syrup, which give a very interesting roasted
touch. We can also use vanilla sugar, either homemade or commercial, which is usually used in
confectionery.
Instead of adding sugar to the cup, we can prepare a syrup to the taste with which to soften the
bitterness of the coffee. The easiest way to make homemade syrup is to heat the same volume of water
as sugar until it dissolves, so if we add a vanilla pod, cinnamon stick or another ingredient, once it has

Argumentative Essay On North Korea
Thank you for taking the time to listen to me, as I am sure you have other things on your plate. As you
read, I would ask you to listen to my opinions, even if yours differers. Something has come to my
attention that concerns me. North Korea continues to threaten and test nations around it, including the
US. We must stop Kim Jong Un, and do something before our wonderful country is damaged beyond
repair. Naturally people will be afraid of war and the unknowns that come with it, but sometimes we
must overcome our doubts for the greater good. Many intelligent people will give arguments that
discusses the effects of war on the economy, and how the environment will be thrown into chaos if a
nuclear strike would occur. This is a good point that we must pay attention to, the economy must stay
level for our own prosperity, and if the environment is destroyed in North Korea it will never been
usable for many many years. However, the benefits of eliminating the threat greatly outway the
negatives. It comes down to being fearless or afraid. Liberation for the oppressed people must be
obtained as soon as possible. Rocket Man is starving his citizens and causing them to live in poverty.
One third of children in the nation have suffered stunted growth do to the lack of food available
(Newman). Not only is North Korea s economy so weak it can not pay to feed its people, the citizens
only make two three dollars a month (Newman). Although the majority of people make so little, it is

The Toxicity Effects Of Stavudine ( D4t )
Review of the toxicity effects of Stavudine (d4t) and Zidovudine (azt) in hepatocytes during HIV
therapy.
Introduction
Since the outbreak of HIV/AIDS, an estimated 78 million people have acquired HIV and has killed
approximately 39 million people infected with the virus. The prognosis of the epidemic has continued
to vary from different countries and according to global statistics; 35 million people in 2013 were
living with HIV/AIDS. 2.5 million People per annum acquire the virus and 1.5 million die of AIDS.
Inspite of the drastic transmission of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the development and accessibility of
anti retroviral drugs has decreased mortality rates by 22% from a population of 2.0million in 2009 to
1.5million in 2013 (WHO, 2013), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fig 1. Structure of HIV 1. Adopted from eMedWiki.
The HIV life cycle occurs in six stages namely; Fusion, Reverse transcription, Integration,
transcription, assembly, and budding. Inorder for the virus to proceed to each stage and continue to
replicate into new viral cells, it requires catalytic enzymes such as reverse transcriptase (RT),
Intergrase (IG), and protease (PT). These replicating enzymes and cycle phases have been identified as
potential therapeutic drug targets for HIV therapy (Fig 2), therefore leading to the development of
novel anti retroviral drugs as stated below;
Fusion Inhibitors (FIs) and Entry inhibitors (EIs): They prevent entry of the viral capsid into the host
CD4+ T cell, by inhibiting the viral Gp41 and Gp120 from binding and fusing with chemocokine
coreceptors CCR5 or CXCR4 on the surface of the host cell. This further prevents the release of viral
replicating enzymes (reverse transcriptase, Intergrase, and protease) from the viral capsid into the host
cell. (Wilen et al., 2011). Examples are Enfuvirtide (FIs) and Maraviroc (EIs).
Reverse transcriptase Inhibitors (RTIs): There are 3 different classes of RTI and these include
nucleoside RTIs (NRTIs), Non nucleotide RTIs (NNRTIs), and nucleotide RTIs (NTRTIs). Inorder to
exhibit their pharmacological effects,

  • 2. Water Fly Lab Report Water Jet Target Characterization and Relation to Conservation of Linear Momentum Stephanie Coleman July 7, 2015 2 Abstract In order to visualize and conceptualize the affect of the contact angle on impact force, testing of four different shapes and comparing the results was done. Conclusions were drawn on the affects of the type of contact surface on the measured impact force. In analyzing these results, it was also be of interest to calculate the theoretical force using a derivation of equations and comparing them to the measured data. Doing so may allow for further understanding concerning the possible errors in calculations or possible mis assumptions being made. Because theoretical results and measured results did not agree within reasonable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows the theoretical data to further validate the measured data. Because the hemispherical shape had error bars which did not overlap, the data corrections were made to that particular set of data. Refer to Figures 5 and 6 to see how these error bars either did not overlap or came close to not overlapping. Notice in Figures 9 and 10 the comparisons in the before calculated force compared to that of the corrected forces. Specific data on these corrections may be found in Tables 7 and 8 in the Appendix. 14 Figure 9: Corrected data with errors for hemispherical shape with the small nozzle Figure 10: Corrected data with errors for hemispherical shape with the large nozzle 15 Table 4: Uncorrected data for inverted cone Conclusions and Recommendations This experiment effectively showed that the resultant impact force acting on the different target shapes changed depending on the shape, which is affected by the contact angle. Further analysis of the data also showed that some beginning assumptions were incorrect, allowing insight on the reasoning for incorrect data percentages. These were corrected via further derivations in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Philippine Insurrection The Philippine Insurrection of 1899 1902 was a little different than most insurgencies. Using Mao s 3 phases of an insurgency, which I will break down below. The native demand for liberation from Spain had been building since the 1880s. In 1892 a poor warehouseman by the name of Andres Bonifacio organized a group called the Katiunan, hoping to drive the Spaniard s out of the Philippines. As in other insurgencies, we are seeing groups coming together for the same objective, but not all insurgent groups get along. In 1896 after a reign of terror against the islanders, Emilio Aguinaldo, a rival group leader, took over leadership by having Bonifacio executed. The insurgency was forced into the hills, but the fighting continued. The people wanted Spain out and supported an independent Philippines. In 1897 Spain paid Aguinaldo off to stop the fighting and sent him to Hong Kong. This put the insurgency back into survival mode and brought a temporary peace. Aguinaldo made a pact with the United States which was at war with Spain at the time. With the assistance of Commodore Dewey they were able to have a decisive victory over the Spanish in Manila. June 12th then became Philippine Independence Day in 1898. The Americans seemed reluctant to leave and in December Spain formally ceded the Philippines to the United States in the Paris Peace Treaty. In January 1899 Aguinaldo staged an inauguration of the First Philippine Republic. This was an uneasy peace, because what was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was believed to be unsinkable but that night it met it s fate and sunk killing many passengers. As the story goes they say it s the icebergs fault for the sinking of the ship. When in reality, the White Star Line was truly at fault for the sinking of the Titanic. They are responsible for this tragedy because they went full speed after ignoring six ice warnings. Not only that but they should ve thought of the consequences when they decided to take off lifeboats for more room for luxury items. Then they weren t prepared and never had any drills or safety procedures for if the ship were to sink. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Fear In Literature Of H. G. Wells And Ray Bradbury Fear is the driving force behind change. When a human being feels they are in danger, the response is to protect themselves. Traumas or bad experiences can trigger a fear response within us that is hard to quell. Yet exposing ourselves to our personal demons is the best way to move past them (Sussex People, 1). Some people will approach the thrill lifestyle willingly, while others will stay away from it at all costs. When interpreting literature, it is important to understand what was the cause of the writing. In most science fiction pieces, the answer is fear. This same truth is evident in the literary works of two authors who shared similar ideas due to catastrophes going on in the world around them. H.G. Wells grew up during an industrial advancement in Europe. This advancement impacted the wars that were going on greatly. Killing was made more efficient and less personal. This affected the morals of the European society. H.G. Wells noticed the issue, and addressed them in his writing. Ray Bradbury also grew up in a time of war. The development of nuclear biological warfare greatly impacted his career. His fear of the end of the world by technology was the supreme basis of all of his works. By applying a historical lense, readers can observe that H.G Wells and Ray Bradbury are afraid of modernising technology due to their fear of bad ethics. The children are taught at home, by either the parents or a teacher that comes to the home a few times a week, or every day like normal schooling. Children being schooled at home get many options when learning, and also get to grow around the home. Homeschooling is a smart idea for parents to consider for their kids because of different socioeconomic factors in the child s life, keeps the child safer, and gives them more opportunity to use religious instruction in what they are learning. When parents are choosing to homeschool, or put their children in public schools they look at the different socioeconomic factors in their lives. These socio economic problems help in the decision to homeschool their children. Depending on how many kids are living in the home, it may be easier to homeschool their kids instead of on sending them to public school. homeschooled students were more likely than public or private schooled students who are living in families with three or more children (Princiotta and Bielick, Web). Parents that are living with three or more children, it is easier for the parents to school from the home instead of sending them all to public school. Thomas Sweeny Wong The future is tough to predict. Parable of the Sower is a very well written science fiction novel by Octavia Butler. The setting is California in the year 2025. The world is not prosperous anymore and has turned into a poverty stricken place. There are countless homeless people, jobs are scarce, and there are very few communities of homes. The few communities that are still occupied have huge walls with barbed wire and laser wire surrounding them. There are robberies, murders, and rapes just about every day. People walk the streets naked and bloody because their clothes were stolen or they could never find any. Some people live in the hills like animals. They kill anything that comes along, human or not, for food and to protect their territory. Some of these people are drug addicts who create fires for their own satisfaction. Everyone who has a chance to live must carry a gun so no one can harm or try to do anything to them. In this society the police do not help because you have to pay them to come to the scene of a crime. Most people cannot afford to pay their fees so they handle whatever they can on their own. Nonoriginalist Adjudication Nonoriginalist Adjudication: A Troubling Approach to Constitutional Interpretation In the 1980 law review, The Misconceived Quest for the Original Understanding , Paul Brest challenges traditional approaches to Constitutional interpretation by proposing non originalist adjudication, a method that accords the text and original history of the Constitution presumptive weight, but does not treat them as authoritative or binding (p. 70). This method directly conflicts with originalism, the method of interpretation supported by Antonin Scalia, but generally agrees with semantic intentionalism, the approach proposed by Ronald Dworkin. While Scalia detests this modern method, Brest argues in favor of it. Brest contends that although the founders intended the amendment process to accommodate the changing needs of an advancing society, it serves this purpose poorly. He claims that the amendment process is too slow and unwieldy to adapt the Constitution to a society which constantly must apply the Constitution to situations the founders could not have even imagined. Moreover, the changes required by society often are not extensive enough to warrant an amendment. Therefore, slightly changing the interpretation of a clause can better accommodate these minor, but necessary changes. Brest argues for gradual, more organic evolution of the Constitutional through adapting its interpretation; in contrast, Scalia says that we must use the routes of change provided for this very purpose in the Constitution itself, as anything different would be irreverent to the fundamental principles of our Constitution. Paul Brest and Ronald Dworkin differ somewhat in theory, as semantic intentionalism treats the Constitution as a broad moral guideline, while nonoriginalism treats it as unauthoritative; nonetheless, they are quite similar in that they both fundamentally disagree with narrow, specific reading of the ... • 10. A Report On Stockholm Syndrome Abstract According to the United States Department of Justice reports, each year nearly 800,000 children are claimed to be missing. This shows that each day, over 2,000 children are reported missing. Kidnappings occur for a variety of reasons, and at the hands of many different people ( Children Exploitation and Obscenity Section , n.d.). For example, the United States Department of Justice claims that 203,000 children are kidnapped by family members annually, while 58,200 are abducted by individuals outside of the family annually ( Children Exploitation and Obscenity Section , n.d.). Kidnappings occur more frequently than the public realizes. The physical and psychological affects being kidnapped has on the victim varies for each individual. One reaction to hostile kidnappings or hostage situations is the development of Stockholm syndrome. According to the FBI law enforcement bulletin, Understanding Stockholm Syndrome by De Fabrique, Romano, Vecchi, and Van Hasselt (2007), nearly 27% of kidnapping victims display signs of Stockholm syndrome. Kidnapping Victims and Stockholm Syndrome What is Stockholm Syndrome Stockholm syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which the victim identifies with their captor (Namnyak, Tufton, Szekely, Toal, Worboys, Sampson, 2008). This may be apparent through sympathy, positive feelings toward their captor, and some even defend their kidnapper (Namnyak, et. al., 2008). Analysis Of Six Degrees Of Separation Six Degrees of Separation Review Within the architecture of theatre, every showing of a play is different from the last, and no one showing will be the same as the next. Six Degrees of Separation was performed in the Harriet Fulton Theatre at the University of Tennessee at Martin on November 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I observed the play during its only matinee performance on Sunday, the 5th. The play was set in a flat above Central Park in New York City, 1900. Written by John Guare, Six Degrees of Separation centers around the complexity of classism, sexual promiscuity, and the ideology that no matter an individual s societal status, one is only separated from another human being by the course of six people and in finding the right six ... They could have split the stage in half between the outside locations and the apartment of Ouisa and Flan to better accommodate the scenes that made no sense of being held in their apartment. The play begins with a couple, Ouisa and Flan, performed by Erin Criswell and Mark Connell, discussing academic knowledge over a few particular pieces of artwork with an interested buyer: Geoffrey, acted by Dillion Davis. To be frank, the beginning made very little sense to me. Stylistically, I do not place blame on the actors as I believe that Guare intended the start of the production to be confusing for the audience as to emphasize the separation between the upper class and the generally, middle class audience that would have observed this play. By not knowing the words brought forth by the actors, I was immediately perplexed and separated from the aristocratic lifestyle presented before me. In the conclusion of his essay On Dumpster Diving, Eighner makes it clear that he believes excess material objects are unnecessary and that they do more harm than good for a person, and this is true. Eighner accurately describes how having large amounts of material goods does nothing to improve the well being or morality of the human race because holding onto physical possessions leads to the development of bad habits and traits within society. Having more material possessions makes people less grateful for what they have and more likely to be wasteful. In his essay, Eighner describes how college students throw out many good things, including food. Because the students are accustomed to having so many material possessions, they do not think twice before throwing a portion of it into the dumpster. • 14. Analysis Of Samuel Huntington s The Clash Of The... Samuel Huntington, the author of the clash of the civilisations believes that the World will eventually divide in accordance with cultural lines, and not political lines. According to Huntington, the thriving East Asian and Muslim societies will soon challenge Western dominance, and the United States being the World leader will need to reevaluate its policies on foreign invention and domestic immigration to remain a major player. During the Cold War, the world was divided into the First, Second and Third Worlds. Huntington views these ties as insignificant now and states that the remaking of the World order will be based upon cultural similarity. The different thriving civilisations according to him today are the Western civilisation comprising of North America and Western Europe, the Muslim civilisation, the Orthodox Civilisation led by Russia, the Chinese civilisation, the Hindu civilisation, the Japanese civilisation, the Latin American civilisation and the African civilisation. Huntington s proposition of the division of the World according to cultural lines has been backed by the use of various examples by him; examples of events that have taken place in the past. If, however, some rigidity prevented wages from falling to the point where supply and demand for labor were at equilibrium, then unemployment could persist. Such an obstacle could be, for example, trade union action to maintain minimum wages or minimum wage legislation. Keynes s major innovation was to argue that persistent unemployment might be caused by a deficiency in demand for production or services, rather than by a disequilibrium in the labor market. Such a deficiency of demand could be explained by a failure of planned (intended) investment to match planned (intended) savings. Savings constitute a leakage in the circular flow by which the incomes earned in the course of producing goods or services are transferred back into demand for other goods and services. A leakage in the circular flow of incomes would tend to reduce the level of total demand. Female empowerment for pop singer Kesha has been a constant throughout her songs, albeit sometimes raunchy or dirty like in her early years. Those songs that are supposed to be empowering but are still sort of perverse show how there is actually a hidden ideology about what it means to be an empowered woman. However, that hidden ideology is often undercut but the initial interpretation or reading of the work. While Kesha s female power anthem Woman highlights being independent of a man, it actually highlights how women and their independence is undermined by continuously being compared to what men can do and using standards brought about by the heteronormative categorization of woman. From the beginning of Kesha s hit song, she exclaims that she is independent because she buys her own things and pays her own bills. It certainly is empowering for women to be proud of earning their money without any help, and it should be seen as a sign of independence. What is so great about her first verse is that she actually accomplishes all of those things, so she has some credibility behind her words. The first major civilization, Mesopotamia, honored the goddess Ishtar with money earned from prostitution. The goddess Ishtar was a reflection of the planet Venus, and was reborn in the morning only to become a ?whore? at night. Ancient civilizations treated prostitution with little hypocrisy and an open mind. ?Prostitutes were regarded as little more than objects to be paid a handful of coins they were also seen as a public necessity.? Today prostitution could be more than it has ever been due to new medications and means of protection, precautions are known and can be taken to make this job safer than it has ever been, ultimately giving unemployed men and women who are interested a chance; currency for sex has always been the way of mankind and will continue to be a part of mankind throughout the future. • 28. World Trade Center Collapse Case Study So many changes had come about when the World Trade Center collapsed. Engineers and design teams all across the country came together and wanted to make changes to buildings they build today to reduce to number of fatalities and to have more means of egress in case of an emergency. Not even years after the terriorist attacks, they came up with some changes that would help out the situation and came up with some new safety regulations. Some of them include additional stairways in buildings. More stairways in buildings is great when buildings exceed more than 1,000 plus people inside a building at one time. Having just one or two stairwells and having 1,000 plus people exiting will sometimes cause a hold up in getting out. Having more inside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We later confirmed the alkenes in each product with Baeyer and Bromine test. Through Gas liquid chromatography we could calculate the yield percentage. E1 and E2 are similar yet, different reactions. In the E1 reaction, the rate determining step is the loss of the leaving group when the mixed with a solvent and an energy source is provided, in this case it was heat. This step produces a carbocation. A tertiary carbocation is preferred because it is more stable than a primary or secondary carbocation. The solvent takes a Hydrogen away from the beta carbon and the pair of electrons go to the bond between the alpha and beta carbon creating an alkene, as shown in Figure 1. Essentially, E1 is two steps, the loss of a leaving group and a formation of a carbocation. Figure 1. Mechanism of E1 reaction. Zoos collect different animals in one environment, but not all animals live in this environment. No place can keep different animals in their environment in small place because nobody can change the weather. We should get rid of zoos for two reasons. Frist, there is no place like home, and a zoo is not home for an animal. There are some animals live in wild, such as elephants and lions. Zoos take animals out of wild into place which is not same as their environment. In the wild, chimpanzees don t venture beyond 5 meters from their mothers until they reach 3 years of age. In captivity, new borns are often torn away from their mothers to be sold or exploited for photo ops. Most animals like elephants suffer from the small space in zoos, so they cannot walk as much as in their homes. Moore Jr. Women In Visual Culture AD307I Angela Reinoehl Visual/Formal Analysis The Liberation of Aunt Jemima by Betye Saar When we look at this piece, we tend to see the differences in ways a subject can be organized and displayed. This assemblage by Betye Saar shows us how using different pieces of medium can bring about the wholeness of the point of view in which the artist is trying to portray. So in part, this piece speaks about stereotyping and how it is seen through the eyes of an artist. This could mean several things, she could be depicting the fact that this woman is expressing that she will go to war for her race, and does not care about what questions arise about her and her beliefs. Saar, now draws us to the outermost part of the assemblage. Here we see a completely different depiction of Aunt Jemima. This Jemima stands holding a white child on one of her hips, with a smile that can kill you on her face or a don t mess with me smile. She is also depicted standing behind a white picket fence with a white sheet draped over it. This could be seen as something that can be defined as complex, based on how the viewer depicts it. Going forward, the sheet is almost obsolete, due to a brown fist raised in the black power salute. This gives us a sense that Aunt Jemima is transformed from a negative stereotype, to an independent, assertive, strong individual human being. Saar has given us the sense that she has seized control of this piece to define identity. She is also holstering this pistol, which also shows the viewer that she will fight for what she believes in. As a Mammy it s seen by the white population that she has nothing worth fighting for, but as we can see, the white child she is bearing helps ease the role of Motherhood and Nurturer. Another point which gives hint to the Caribbean viewpoint is the phrase that comes up in the story. Which says but I don t sing benna on Sundays at all and never in Sunday school. Two point of views come out of this, one being the idea of benna, which is simply Calypso music. Which is a music that originated in the Caribbean islands. Another being the emphasis on the day of Sunday. Minor sentence, but gives a lot of information in the few words it gives. Growing up my mother not only spoke about church, but emphasized going on Sundays, which is different for many different backgrounds. My family struggled to make ends meet, things weren t handed to us. We had to earn them. I was able to experience how easy things were for those who were wealthy. I also remember seeing my family struggle to put on the table. They always did what they could to ensure my siblings and I had what we needed. We had no money for frivolous things. I also as a young child would go into stores and look at toys, wishing I could afford them; questioning why the wealthy had the privilege of spending money on unnecessary things. It was just like the kids from the story; wondering why would people spend that kind of money on something that seems worthless to them. Jerome Cartwright explains that the story had multiple lessons; however, he primarily focuses on the economic injustices of the conflict between the rich and the poor. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most popular and effective of these approaches is the supplementation of false information into a scenario that the person being questioned was a part of (Wade, Green, and Nash 2010). If a person witnessed an event and is forced to recollect said event, they will likely only remember the key details. However, when asked to recollect on the finer aspect of the event, people will create false memories in order to fill the gap (Gerrie, Belcher, and Garry 2006). This is evident by a recent memory test in which subjects confidently but falsely remembered 17% of unseen information from [an] event that they were shown multiple times and asked to recollect on it (Gerrie, Belcher, and Gary 2006 p. 689). Because it is evident that people will form their own memories regarding supplementary information about an event they experienced, it is no stretch of the imagination that this fact can be abused in order to form memories that suit someone else s narrative. An accepted explanation for the induction of false memories is taken from a popular theory known as the Fuzzy Trace Theory of FTT (Porter and Baker 2015). This theory suggests that there are two types of memories processes: verbatim, which traces the exact aspects of an event, and gist traces, which follow the semantics or the connotative elements. One specific movie, The Little Mermaid, had young girls wanting to be just like Ariel and buying any paraphernalia they could after the movie came out. But have you ever wondered where these stories have come from? Or why they always end with a happily ever after ? The famous, Danish, children s writer Hans Christian Andersen is the father of the tale of The Little Mermaid . Andersen s original is quite different than Walt Disney s happily ever after tale. Andersen s tale begins with the background of the Little Mermaid s life and family. There seems to be a sort of emphasis on her and her sisters lack of a mother, but rather a grandmother who stands in as mother as well as a sea king as a father.
