Leadership Is The Best Course Of Action For Leadership
Leadership is a complex subject, but for our purposes can be defined as the act of one person
influencing another person or group of people towards a common purpose that is beneficial for both
the leader and their followers. Many approaches have been taken by academics in attempting to
understand what leadership is at its core. Useful information has been unearthed by studying
leadership qualities in individuals and by studying the dynamic between leader and follower.
However, the abstractness of these studies left researches at somewhat of a loss for practical and
relevant information, that is until research began on the observable behavior of leaders. The Style
Approach is a useful way to look at the leader follower relationship because it incorporates elements
of behaviorist psychology and applies them to the study leadership as a phenomenon. The goal of this
essay is to use observable behavior in the context of the Leadership Grid to determine the best course
of action for leadership in any scenario.
Findings on Leadership via the Style Approach The Style Approach differs from other ways of
understanding leadership in that it is focused on the here and now rather than traits or tendencies
which are more difficult to quantify. This approach allows room for the subject of a study to change
over time, rather than being rigidly casted as something because they displayed certain characteristics
at a certain time. It also eliminates the idea that a leader depends upon

Analysis Of The Movie Spirited Away And Ponyo
Director Miyazaki illustrated in Spirited Away and Ponyo how love, identity, perseverance, and
adversity can conquer anything. At the beginning of the movies, we see how food and water set
Chihiro, Sosuke, and Ponyo s entire adventures, and the conflict they endure and how they were
perceived in the spirit and human worlds. The spirit world was less tolerant of anything different
whereas the human world was more welcoming; however, they both illustrated the same message
about how people should be more open minded and to be more accepting. An example in Spirited
Away showed how the Spirit world viewed Chihiro as nothing more than just a human being who
came to their world to cause trouble, according to Yubaba; whereas in the human world, Ponyo was
welcomed by Sosuke, even though at the start of the movie, Ponyo was appeared to be a goldfish,
nevertheless she was still welcomed by a human. The narrator showed his audience how difficult it
was for Chihiro in the spirit world, in Spirited Away , but, Ponyo was the opposite in the human world
but she still had adversity. By the contrast of both worlds, Miyazaki is showing his audience how
humans are more accepting of things that are different vs the spirit world which rejects differences.
The storyteller showed a scene in Spirited Away where Yubaba tried to trick Chihiro into choosing her
parents from a group of sprit she had turned into pigs, but it didn t work the way Yubaba wanted it to,
because Chihiro was able

Online Cash Advance Lenders Make a Mockery of Bans by States
A recent Washingtontimes.com article explored online lending and state bans of cash advance
companies operating within their jurisdictions. The article mentioned that many of these lenders get
around bans by ignoring state caps on interest rates and other regulations. Without storefront options,
cash advance lenders can still advertise online to deliver quick cash directly to borrowers bank
accounts even these kinds of loans are banned in the state. However, Google s decision to ban payday
lending ads could affect how these companies reach customers. Google recently decided to ban loan
advertising for loans with APRs higher than 36 percent according to a report from Theguardian.com.
Despite state bans and fewer advertising opportunities to reach consumers, most people can still
search for these types of loans in browser based organic searches, and all evidence suggests that they
will continue doing so. Banned lenders simply find other ways to promote their products and market
loans directly to consumers in areas where their storefront operations are banned. Millennials
especially respond well to alternative financial services such as payday loans and pawnshop
borrowing according to research reported by Nationalpawnbrokers.org. Native American tribes often
partner with online lenders to offer loans to consumers in states where the industry is banned.

Death And Rebirth Of Traditional Family Values”. A Family
Death and Rebirth of Traditional Family Values
A family is a group of individuals related by blood, marriage, or adoption. Most people are familiar
with the term nuclear families . However, today the idea of a postmodern family is becoming more
and more common. A nuclear family consists of two parents and children. The nuclear family was
long held by society as being the ideal in which to raise children. The single parent family consists of
one parent raising one or more children on his or her own. This limits income and opportunities in
many cases, although many single parent families have help from relatives and friends. The extended
family structure consists of two or more adults who are related, either by blood or marriage, living in

Political values are following the law and respecting those who inforce it. Religious values center on
the expectations people have about themselves and others based on the beliefs of their faith. Work
values include such things as your philosophies about your job, your finances, and how you spend
your money. Moral values are your individual values about what you believe is right or wrong.
Recreational values refer to anything that involves fun or play. An example would be allowing each
family member to pursue individual interests.

In the past, family s morals were more biblically based. Generation Cedar describes it by saying, The
man is the head, but the woman is the neck. And she can turn the head any way she likes. According to
The New York Times, Women are not only more likely to be the primary caregivers in a family.
Increasingly, they are primary breadwinners, too. Four in ten American households with children

According to a Pew Research Center analysis of census and polling data, stay at home mothers are at

The Life of Artemisia Gentileschi
Life of Artemisia Gentileschi
Italian Baroque painter, Artemisia Gentileschi was born in Rome on July 8th, 1593. Her father Orazio
Gentileschi, who was a painter himself, introduced Artemisia to the art of painting by giving her
lessons in his studio. At an early age, Artemisia displayed her interest in art and it wasn t long until her
father noticed potential in his daughter enough that she would be able to make a name for herself in
the male dominated career. Artemisia had the desire to follow in her father s footsteps, it was then that
Orazio encouraged her to follow her dreams and decided to begin training her as an artist. After
collaborating on a project with the painter Agostino Tassi, Orazio hired him to tutor Artemisia on
perspective due to his skills with landscape. During one of their lessons, Tassi took advantage of
Artemisia and raped her. In their time, if a woman was raped, the man who was responsible had to
marry her. I find it odd knowing that back then it was considered normal for a man to rape a woman
that he wanted to be with and marrying her after. Sounds to me like women had no choice, no say on
who they wanted to be in relationship with. Sadly, in many cases the men who committed the rape
would flee from the situation to avoid getting married after getting what they wanted. Even though the
women weren t at fault, if unmarried women weren t virgins they were seen as tainted, or no good for
another man. After the incident had occurred, Tassi had

Understanding The Conditions Required For Creative Play...
In this essay I will be writing about the differences of play and creativity as well as referring back to
relevant theorists which relate to it. I will also be understanding the conditions required for creative
play and evaluate a play provision.
Play is a natural process a child goes through and it is the process of the way a child thinks and feels.
When children are playing, they are being creative and imaginative. They are able to invent different
things as they are free. Play is a process which children have to use both their mind and body for. For
children play is satisfying and it gives the child excitement, and the chance to explore, find new things
out and how they work. The excitement children have when playing is the ability which links the child
s inner mental world to the real world. It is a big task for a child to take in and make sense of the
world, as they are continuously of being risk at being stunned by major events. Children are able to
come to terms with the real world when events are repeated, as well as their own feelings being played
out. Through play children are able to express their feeling such as anger without hurting any other
child within a setting such as a pre school (Russ and Russ, 1993).
Playing is important for children s development and is fundamental for their wellbeing, including the
social, physical and emotional health. Children are able to develop resilience which contributes
towards their physical and emotional wellbeing. Play is a

The twists and turns of your life can be so unexpected, and that s a good thing to learn. Whale talk is a
story of a kid named T.J and some of his friends that go through a life of a teenager. In the story Whale
Talk by Chris Crutcher, people who have been through traumatic events cope with challenges in their
lives by overcoming, forgetting, or learning.
Forgetting is how some people cope with their traumatic events in life. Something that would be hard

Athens-Greece Essay
Athens Greece
During the fifth century of Ancient Greece the city states of Athens and Sparta represented two very
different forms of living. Spartans directed their time towards their military capabilities while the
Athenians were interested in comfort and culture. Sparta s and Athens political and environmental
differences along with their different views on women caused the two city states to be very dissimilar.
Two major forms of government existed during Ancient Greece: oligarchy and democracy. The
government in Sparta was controlled by an oligarchy in which the power was held by a group of five
men called ephors. Working below the ephors was the Council of Elders and ... Show more content on

It was also customary to expel from the country any speaker who became too powerful. However, as
stated in the Athenian Constitution, male citizens were equal and the government s focus was on the
individual rather than the state as a whole.2
Another difference between the two great city states was their environment and how it affected the
trade in the two cities. The Athenian economy depended on foreign trade and travel.3 Because of
Athens location on the Aegean Sea, sailing increased trade. While trade was a necessity in Athens, it
wasn t in Sparta. Since Sparta was cut off from the rest of Greece by two mountain ranges there was
little trade being done. The Spartans rarely traveled from their city state or allowed foreigners into it.
This kept out foreign ideas and allowed an element of surprise when it came to attacks.4
Quite possibly one of the greatest differences between the Athenian and the Spartans regarded their
attitude towards women. Womens roles in society and their relationship with the community played a
major role in the development and effectiveness of each state s government and culture. Unlike the
rest of Greek women, Spartan women had the freedom of equality except for voting rights. They did
little housework or sewing. Since men were in the military, the women had full authority over their
households and were not forced into a life of only childbearing and housekeeping

Analysis Of Plato s Republic And Aristotle s Politics
Mercedes Chien
Dr. Joel Klein
Contemporary Civilization
2 November 2015
Family in Political Society
Plato s Republic and Aristotle s Politics both accredit nature to the teleological functions of men,
women, and children. Nevertheless, each philosopher defines family differently to support their main
goals of finding the right type of society. While Plato does not conform to the traditional definition of
a family with a husband, wife, and children and instead defines the role of men and women separately,
Aristotle uses the family as a microcosm of political society, in the hopes of showing readers how to
create a just society for the former and a virtuous one for the latter.
Plato describes the Kallipolis the ideal city for the ancient Greeks in his Republic. The Kallipolis
prides itself on abiding by the truth of justice, which Plato defines as a citizen doing one s one work
that fits his character (Plato 119). By doing one s own work, the citizen is contributing to the greater
good of society, which Plato coins as the ultimate key to justice accordingly, the better [will be ruling]
the worse, [which] is to be described as temperate and master of itself (117). This specialization
characterizes the role of family in the political society one that consists of each individual doing one s
own work to contribute to the greater good. However, the family in the Republic is so loosely created
that readers may interpret the family as nonexistent in Plato s novel.

The science of oil painting came to it s full fruition in the nineteenth century. The palette now included
dazzling colors which could electrify a painting. First a student of Cabanel s and later influenced by
Mariano Fortuny y Marshal, Regnault was one of the rising stars of the Romantic movement. He lived
a passionate life, traveling to the Middle East even though he was broke, hanging out in Spain as it
rose up against Queen Isabella the Second, he loved excitement and adventure.
Henri Regnault predicted that he would not live long. Less than a year after this painting was
completed his prediction came true; while fighting in the Franco Prussion war, even though he was
exempt from military service because of his artist status, he died in the battle of Buzenfal at the age of
twenty eight. (www.artcycolpedia.com)
The painting is very expressive as it shows the strength of the humanity and nature. The human is
actually winning this battle with the horses. The dark colors also accompany this idea. The lighting is
rather dim in this painting with a stormy sky above. The perspective is from floor level making the
viewer look up in order to appreciate the full specter of this painting. The massive size of the painting

Tourism And Tourism
. Introduction
Our research question is What happens to tourism in cities after being impacted by a terrorist attack?
Most tourists will seek safe and secure destinations when travelling which is why we hypothesize that
they will avoid destinations impacted by terrorist attacks in the short term. Terrorism can be defined as
an act of targeted violence that appears to intimidate or coerce a sector of the population and/or a
government s policies to achieve political or social objectives inside or outside a territorial
jurisdiction. The goal of terrorism is to psychologically disrupt possible targets and aim to increase
public s fear of terrorism to an illogical and overwhelming state of anxiety. In other words, the goal is
for people to believe that anyone and everyone could be a victim at any moment. In a rational world
there would be no impact on tourism after terrorist attacks (at least after the immediate danger is
handled), however, we expect tourists to avoid such locations beyond this irrationally. Possible
behavioural explanations for this avoidance include mortality salience, dread risk and overconfidence,
base rate neglect and terror, and news coverage and the availability heuristic.
In our research, we will be looking at popular tourist locations because that is where travel is
discretionary. These locations include Paris, London, New York, Las Vegas, Manchester, Berlin, Nice,
and Orlando, all considered top tourist destinations by the World Tourism Organization. This will
allow us to control for travel that is mandatory, such as work based travel. We will use two statistical
methods to test our hypothesis: a two sample t test and a regression analysis. The t test will help us
compare if the average difference between arrivals 3 months after a terrorist attack and arrivals 3
months into a destination unaffected by terrorism are significant or due to chance. A regression
analysis is then used to determine the relationship between death totals in each terrorist attack and
tourist arrivals.
Existing Research
According to Sönmez (1998), when faced with the threat of terrorism tourists tend to engage in a
number of behaviors including substituting risky destinations with safer alternatives and

Pros And Cons Of Banning The Headscarf
Should the headscarf be banned? Recently there has been a push towards banning religious symbolism
from the media, especially the hijab. The hijab is a veil that Muslim women wear around their heads
to cover their hair and their bosoms; it symbolizes faith and modesty. Many people fear or in some
cases feel bad for people who wear the headscarf including niqabs and burqas because they are
uneducated and/or ignorant of Islamic teachings which lead them to create inaccurate assumptions and
accusations on the matter. Most may believe banning the headscarf will benefit the community in
ways that they believe will make people feel more comfortable and they also believe that it will
benefit the women who wear the hijab because of the belief that Muslim women who wear the
headscarf are oppressed, however, banning the headscarf would lead to the contradiction of Canadian
values, discrimination, and go against the religious beliefs of Muslims. The prohibition of the
headscarf would go against Canadian values. When Steven Harper was Prime Minister, he wanted to
ban the niqab, a cloth that covers the face, for citizens who work for the government and Around 82
percent of Canadians [supported] the niqab ban, ( Trudeau s Gutsy Post Victory Speech Shatters
Stereotypes ). Having most of the population supporting this decision is relatively disappointing
knowing it contradicts the significance of Canadian society, since Canada is acknowledged for its
multiculturalism and diversity.

Describe The Relationship Between Putin And Thomas Hobbes
Russia s power has increased a lot over the past few years. Not only has their nation increased power,
so has their leader, Vladimir Putin. Putin has many interesting aspects as a person and in his
governmental styles. He gained these from many different people including Thomas Hobbes, and John
Locke. Vladimir Putin s policies are both supported by John Locke and Thomas Hobbes, but when it
comes to Vladimir Putin as a person only Hobbes is right.
Putin believes that one man can control all and prevent damage from occurring. While working in the
KGB he began discovering the power and strength one man can have. He started to think along the
lines of Thomas Hobbes; believing the ideas that all men are evil and need one ruler to control them.

his people he tries to make their life better. Putin maybe want all control but he can t have that if his
own country is thinking of a revolt. To prohibit this He pays off the debts they had with other
countries. Russia has understood what debts can do to your people when they are being prolonged to
pay off. Although Putin may want to be their one supreme leader he can not accomplish that if he has
to worry about possible revolutions. When some people first come to office, they typically try to make
their plans happen. This wasn t the case when Vladimir Putin came to power. When Putin came to be
president he was a faced with a serious issue that was previously left for him, he had to solve the
Ukraine conflict. The power of the Society, or legislative, constituted by them, can never be supposed
to extend farther that the common good. (Locke) This shows that Putin did this to better the good of
his people, while doing so he also made his country even safer than it was originally. Solving the
Ukraine conflict allowed people within and around that area to feel safer. Instead of being neutral in
the situation like other countries, he got involved. Putin may appear fierce but he has a soft spot for
the safety of his own and others.
Vladimir Putin s personality and his policies are all based off Hobbes and Locke. When describing
Putin s personality Hobbes was the better comparison point. But, when it comes to his policies, they

Case Study Of London Underground
The company London Underground has managed to survive through partnerships with other
stakeholders to improve the rail transport sector. It is not easy for partnerships and collaborations to
last for long without proper management and leadership in place. By choosing this company as the
case study, it provides answers on how to well sustain partnerships for the good of commuters.
Stakeholders have different expectations and cultures and incorporating them into a general agenda for
a particular company can be quite a challenge. Mechanisms used by the London Underground
company to cement these partnerships can be copied by other companies not only in the rail industry
but other sectors too. This is a plus that needs to be shared by the different industries too. Another
reason for choosing London Underground as a case study was to help understand their financial
system. This looks into sources of financing and how to effectively utilize the available finances for
the good of commuters and workers too. Such a big company must need quite an enormous financial
budget to sustain most of their services. A way as to how they utilize the money allocated to them for
both service provision and staff maintenance could be a great learning tool for other stakeholders. An
inventory system, a proper recording system, and audit plans are key in ensuring financial
management. The study would establish how the company integrates all these factors to achieve

In the 1960s and 1970s Land Art was established in the United States using inspiration from the
minimalistic style that was very popular in the 1960s. Land Art, also called Earthworks, is an

Smithson did several more pieces involving mirrors and glass that incorporated natural materials like

associated with entropy. One of the main focuses was on the decay of natural life.3 In the late 1960s
Smithson started to create his earthworks. He started by making them as landmarkers like a map using
mostly natural materials. He started making his most commonly known piece, the Spiral Jetty, in 1970

Indian monument he saw in Ohio, the Great Serpent Mound. This was a turning point for him; he was

as a collage with both pictures and maps.3 The Spiral Jetty is still there today. After he

Leavell And Clark Model
Leavell and Clark model wanted to explain how the relationship between an agent, host, and
environment could affect an individual s health. Agent Host Environment model, according to Leavell
and Clark, is beneficial for investigative causes of disease in an individual. The model attempts to
explain how the interconnection of three separate elements correlates to affect an individual health
status. The agent host environmental model suggests, how certain factors must be present or absent for
an illness to occur; and as a result of such external factor a living organism is capable of being
adversely infected or affected by outside influences (Leavell and Clark, 1965).

Based on the latest Census review, more than half of Americans with dementia due to AD are at the
moderate or severe stages of the disease. The accumulating care burdens associated with the
progression of AD place considerable stress on caregivers and families of the person with AD, and
often determine whether that person is placed in a nursing home. Furthermore, greater impairments in
cognition, ADL, and behavior are associated with higher societal costs of AD related care. Successful
symptomatic therapies, particularly in the moderate and severe stages of the disease, may provide
substantial health and quality of life benefits, not only for the patient, but also for those in their
caregiving network via reduced AD related burden and stress. Moreover, effective treatment of
symptoms may also delay nursing home placement and help reduce costs related to patient care

Huntington s Disease Research Paper
Huntington s disease (HD) is a rare and fatal disease known as a polyglutamine neurodegenerative
disorder effecting only 4 10 per 100,000 people of European decent (Driver Dunckly et. Al 2007).
This means there is a problem with the trinucleotide that codes for glutamine, cytosine adenine
guanine (CAG). In the case of HD there is an extreme overproduction of the CAG repeats in the
protein huntingtin. Accumulation of this mutated form of the protein in neurons causes cell atrophy
which in turn causes the brain to malfunction. The disease was first described by Dr. George
Huntington in 1872, however it wasn t until 1993 that the cause of the disease was actually discovered
(Bertram et. Al 2005).HD is characterized by symptoms effecting the afflicted ... Show more content

The dorsal striatum is composed of the caudate nucleus and the putamen. The striatal cells appear to
be the most vulnerable to the inclusion bodies formed by the aggregates of mutant huntingtin. As the
disease progresses and more inclusion bodies are accumulated the striatal cells begin to die at a faster
rate than they are reproduced. The death of these cells cause the striatum to degrade. The exact
mechanisms by which the striatal cells function is disrupted is still being researched, however it is
theorized that the damage to the mitochondria from mutant huntingtin or toxic glutamine segments is
one of the culprits (Turner, et. Al 2010). The basal ganglia allows one to start and stop movement,
controls cognition and comprehension, and also controls mood. The degradation of the striatum
interrupts all of these function which attributes to the clinical manifestations of the disease. The
disease is fatal because eventually the striatum of the basal ganglia becomes so damaged that the
individual can no longer swallow. Mutant huntingtin may also affect certain layers of the cerebral
cortex, the hypothalamus, thalamus, and parts of the cerebellum (Purves et. Al,

Prevalence Of Diabetes Among The Americans
Prevalence of Diabetes in Kuwait
Today, Diabetes happens to be the most challenging medical disorder existing in the world, with an
alarming rise in the number of individuals contracting and dealing with the same. Among the 10
countries worldwide, having the highest prevalence rate of Diabetes, Kuwait backs the ninth position.
Kuwait has an alarming 23.3% of prevalence of Diabetes and that is estimated to rise in the next 10
years.1, 2
There are many contributing factors for the increasing prevalence of Diabetes among the natives of
Kuwait like drastic epidemiological and cultural changes, sedentary life style, unhealthy eating habits,
ageing, over weight and urbanization.2, 3 Studies reveal that the occurrence of Type II Diabetes
mellitus is also increasing among the younger individuals, mostly covering the ones below 30 years of
age.4 It was also found that 73.4% of the people with Diabetes are below 60 years of age , i.e. in their
productive years, especially in Arab regions including Kuwait, which may adversely affect the
capabilities of individuals and the quality of life in the long run.36 Also, the onset of Diabetes is
characterized to be gradual, with around 30% of the patients presenting with complications at the time
of diagnosis5 and an asymptomatic time period of 10 years in which the disease remains undetected.6,
7 Hence, Diabetes poses a huge burden over the economy as a consequence of loss of productivity and
cost of health treatments.36

Art, Surrealism, and the Grotesque Essay
The term grotesque in art and literature, commonly refers to the juxtaposition of extreme contrasts
such as horror and humor, or beauty and monstrosity, or desire and revulsion. One function of this
juxtaposition of the rational and the irrational is to subdue or normalize the unknown, and thereby
control it.
The simultaneity of mutually exclusive emotional states, and the discomfort it might cause, inspires a
Freudian analytic critical approach because of its focus on controlling repressed desires through
therapeutic rationality.
There are volumes of Freudian art criticism, which typically begin by calling attention to
manifestations, in some work of art, of the darkest desires of the id. Perhaps in no field ... Show more

In this discussion, I hope to put a different spin on surrealism and the grotesque by drawing on the
works of Sartre, and if we re not too dizzy from spinning when all is said and done, I shall have put
together a way to investigate the grotesque in Modernist art and contemporary life. After a summary
of the surrealist s use of Freud and a look at Sartre s criticism of surrealism, we will look at surrealism
in Sartre s work and derive an existentialist definition of the grotesque and examine how this might
reconfigure the surrealist goal of liberation. Surrealist art is almost always analyzed in terms of
Freudian psychoanalytic theory because the surrealists openly announced Freud s study of the psyche
as the inspiration for the practice of surrealism. Andr‚ Breton, author of the many surrealist
Manifestoes and the self appointed spokesman and scribe of the surrealist movement, eulogized Freud,
who died in
1939, by writing that: . . .the death of Freud is enough to render the future of psychoanalytic ideas
uncertain, and threatens once again to turn an exemplary instrument of liberation into an instrument of
oppression (Breton 282).
The liberation to which Breton refers, has to do with the freeing of unconscious expression,

NCAA Recruiting Analysis
College athletics have become huge business. Therefore, coaches are under pressure to sign the best
recruits. Jim Harbaugh went so far as having a sleepover at a recruit s house (Schwartz, 2016).
According to Remillard (2014), Texas A M used a helicopter in their recruiting efforts (p. 7). These
two examples are within the NCAA recruiting rules. However, many programs violate the rules every
year to gain an advantage in recruiting. Unfortunately, many programs, like Louisville, use sex or
money to entice athletes to come to their program (ESPN, 2015).
Some programs are even using their uniforms as a recruiting tool (Crabtree, 2013). Our post literate
culture is becoming more focused on images and quick messages. Recruiters must continue to evolve
their recruiting techniques in order to convince the best recruits to come to their program. In a
competitive field, coaches will use every advantage they can to land the top recruits. ... Show more

According to an ESPN pole, academics ranked as the most important factor for recruits (Crabtree,

the association s belief in student athletes as students first is a foundational principle ( Frequently ,

academics even if no one else is doing it. It is the responsibility of the athletic director and coaching

Aristotle s Rhetorical Rhetoric On The Human Soul
Aristotle s Rhetorical Rhetoric Aristotle, a famous philosopher, is one of the most renowned Greek
scholars, and was an influential force in ancient Greece and in modern society. He was the head of the
Macedon royal academy, where he taught Alexander the Great, his most famous pupil. He founded the
famous Lyceum in Athens later in his life, which is portrayed in Raphael s painting School of Athens.
Aristotle is known for his interest in nature and science, and his emphasis on empirical evidence to
prove his points has become the keystone of modern scientific research. As a result, one of the topics
he studied is the cause of human difference. He discusses in Book I of his series Politics the nature of
the human soul and how different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such an egotistical belief is expressed when Aristotle describes how the soul rules the body with a
despotical rule, whereas the intellect rules the appetites with a constitutional and royal rule (Aristotle,
5). By drawing a relationship between the intellect and fair rule, Aristotle appeals to the Greeks: if
their form of government is truly the best, then Aristotle s vision of the model citizen must be as well.
Similarly, Aristotle s descriptions of the superiority and inferiority of certain groups are also
dependent on his familiarity with each group. Since Plato s Academy, which preached an elitist
philosophy (Welch, Marshall and Billig, 10), was mostly male (Reeve), Aristotle ranks males over
females, fathers over mothers, and husbands over wives. Similarly, Aristotle places masters over
slaves as he was a free citizen living among other free citizens; by corollary of such an authority based
dynamic, he also ranks natural rulers above subjects. Finally, as Aristotle had only lived in Greece
before Politics was published, he had no personal exposure to the barbarian Persians, and thus stated
that Hellenes, a term describing all Greeks unified together, were superior to the Persians
(Biography.com). These explanations are not grounded in any sort of empirical evidence; rather,
Aristotle classifies groups statuses

Although they are different mood disorders caused by psychosocial, cognitive and emotional

differences between them. Therefore, neurobiological markers are used to identify the particular
disorder a patient has and what therapeutic strategies or treatments are suitable for each patient.

new diseases. In developing countries diseases are a major problem that effect both economy and the

The Oregon Death With Dignity Act
1. The Oregon Death with Dignity Act was put into effect on October 27, 1997. This act allowed
physicians to prescribe to terminally ill patients a lethal dose of medication in order to hasten their
death, even though euthanasia is prohibited in the United States. According to Katrina Hedberg, this
act has been revised by Oregon legislature, but has still been brought to attention of the United States
Supreme Court on raised questions of legality. In order to receive a prescription for the Death with
Dignity Act, the patient must reside in Oregon, be a terminally ill adult, and should be expected to die
within a six month time frame. Along with these requirements, patients must be able to make their
own healthcare decisions. Katrina Hedberg found that over the course of ten years, physicians had
written 546 prescriptions and a total of 341 Oregon residents passed away after the lethal dose under
this act. The medications that were prescribed during this time were secobarbital and pentobarbital,
and most patients would pass away within an hour of taking pentobarbital. Many physicians have
reported that patients who requested these prescriptions often had a loss of autonomy and a decrease
in their ability to engage in activities that they enjoyed. The results showed that these factors had
increased over the course of ten years. According to physicians, patient s concerns of pain had also
increased during this time. This is still very controversial, but findings have shown that

  • 2. Leadership Is The Best Course Of Action For Leadership Leadership is a complex subject, but for our purposes can be defined as the act of one person influencing another person or group of people towards a common purpose that is beneficial for both the leader and their followers. Many approaches have been taken by academics in attempting to understand what leadership is at its core. Useful information has been unearthed by studying leadership qualities in individuals and by studying the dynamic between leader and follower. However, the abstractness of these studies left researches at somewhat of a loss for practical and relevant information, that is until research began on the observable behavior of leaders. The Style Approach is a useful way to look at the leader follower relationship because it incorporates elements of behaviorist psychology and applies them to the study leadership as a phenomenon. The goal of this essay is to use observable behavior in the context of the Leadership Grid to determine the best course of action for leadership in any scenario. Findings on Leadership via the Style Approach The Style Approach differs from other ways of understanding leadership in that it is focused on the here and now rather than traits or tendencies which are more difficult to quantify. This approach allows room for the subject of a study to change over time, rather than being rigidly casted as something because they displayed certain characteristics at a certain time. It also eliminates the idea that a leader depends upon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of The Movie Spirited Away And Ponyo Director Miyazaki illustrated in Spirited Away and Ponyo how love, identity, perseverance, and adversity can conquer anything. At the beginning of the movies, we see how food and water set Chihiro, Sosuke, and Ponyo s entire adventures, and the conflict they endure and how they were perceived in the spirit and human worlds. The spirit world was less tolerant of anything different whereas the human world was more welcoming; however, they both illustrated the same message about how people should be more open minded and to be more accepting. An example in Spirited Away showed how the Spirit world viewed Chihiro as nothing more than just a human being who came to their world to cause trouble, according to Yubaba; whereas in the human world, Ponyo was welcomed by Sosuke, even though at the start of the movie, Ponyo was appeared to be a goldfish, nevertheless she was still welcomed by a human. The narrator showed his audience how difficult it was for Chihiro in the spirit world, in Spirited Away , but, Ponyo was the opposite in the human world but she still had adversity. By the contrast of both worlds, Miyazaki is showing his audience how humans are more accepting of things that are different vs the spirit world which rejects differences. The storyteller showed a scene in Spirited Away where Yubaba tried to trick Chihiro into choosing her parents from a group of sprit she had turned into pigs, but it didn t work the way Yubaba wanted it to, because Chihiro was able ... Online Cash Advance Lenders Make A Mockery Of Bans By States Online Cash Advance Lenders Make a Mockery of Bans by States Online Cash Advance Lenders Make a Mockery of Bans by States A recent Washingtontimes.com article explored online lending and state bans of cash advance companies operating within their jurisdictions. The article mentioned that many of these lenders get around bans by ignoring state caps on interest rates and other regulations. Without storefront options, cash advance lenders can still advertise online to deliver quick cash directly to borrowers bank accounts even these kinds of loans are banned in the state. However, Google s decision to ban payday lending ads could affect how these companies reach customers. Google recently decided to ban loan advertising for loans with APRs higher than 36 percent according to a report from Theguardian.com. Despite state bans and fewer advertising opportunities to reach consumers, most people can still search for these types of loans in browser based organic searches, and all evidence suggests that they will continue doing so. Banned lenders simply find other ways to promote their products and market loans directly to consumers in areas where their storefront operations are banned. Millennials especially respond well to alternative financial services such as payday loans and pawnshop borrowing according to research reported by Nationalpawnbrokers.org. Native American tribes often partner with online lenders to offer loans to consumers in states where the industry is banned. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most people are familiar with the term nuclear families . However, today the idea of a postmodern family is becoming more and more common. A nuclear family consists of two parents and children. The nuclear family was long held by society as being the ideal in which to raise children. The single parent family consists of one parent raising one or more children on his or her own. This limits income and opportunities in many cases, although many single parent families have help from relatives and friends. The extended family structure consists of two or more adults who are related, either by blood or marriage, living in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. The Life of Artemisia Gentileschi Life of Artemisia Gentileschi Italian Baroque painter, Artemisia Gentileschi was born in Rome on July 8th, 1593. Her father Orazio Gentileschi, who was a painter himself, introduced Artemisia to the art of painting by giving her lessons in his studio. At an early age, Artemisia displayed her interest in art and it wasn t long until her father noticed potential in his daughter enough that she would be able to make a name for herself in the male dominated career. Artemisia had the desire to follow in her father s footsteps, it was then that Orazio encouraged her to follow her dreams and decided to begin training her as an artist. After collaborating on a project with the painter Agostino Tassi, Orazio hired him to tutor Artemisia on perspective due to his skills with landscape. During one of their lessons, Tassi took advantage of Artemisia and raped her. In their time, if a woman was raped, the man who was responsible had to marry her. I find it odd knowing that back then it was considered normal for a man to rape a woman that he wanted to be with and marrying her after. Sounds to me like women had no choice, no say on who they wanted to be in relationship with. Sadly, in many cases the men who committed the rape would flee from the situation to avoid getting married after getting what they wanted. Even though the women weren t at fault, if unmarried women weren t virgins they were seen as tainted, or no good for another man. After the incident had occurred, Tassi had ... • 9. Understanding The Conditions Required For Creative Play... In this essay I will be writing about the differences of play and creativity as well as referring back to relevant theorists which relate to it. I will also be understanding the conditions required for creative play and evaluate a play provision. Play is a natural process a child goes through and it is the process of the way a child thinks and feels. When children are playing, they are being creative and imaginative. They are able to invent different things as they are free. Play is a process which children have to use both their mind and body for. For children play is satisfying and it gives the child excitement, and the chance to explore, find new things out and how they work. The excitement children have when playing is the ability which links the child s inner mental world to the real world. It is a big task for a child to take in and make sense of the world, as they are continuously of being risk at being stunned by major events. Children are able to come to terms with the real world when events are repeated, as well as their own feelings being played out. Through play children are able to express their feeling such as anger without hurting any other child within a setting such as a pre school (Russ and Russ, 1993). Playing is important for children s development and is fundamental for their wellbeing, including the social, physical and emotional health. Children are able to develop resilience which contributes towards their physical and emotional wellbeing. Play is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Athens-Greece Essay Athens Greece During the fifth century of Ancient Greece the city states of Athens and Sparta represented two very different forms of living. Spartans directed their time towards their military capabilities while the Athenians were interested in comfort and culture. Sparta s and Athens political and environmental differences along with their different views on women caused the two city states to be very dissimilar. Two major forms of government existed during Ancient Greece: oligarchy and democracy. The government in Sparta was controlled by an oligarchy in which the power was held by a group of five men called ephors. Working below the ephors was the Council of Elders and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was also customary to expel from the country any speaker who became too powerful. However, as stated in the Athenian Constitution, male citizens were equal and the government s focus was on the individual rather than the state as a whole.2 Another difference between the two great city states was their environment and how it affected the trade in the two cities. The Athenian economy depended on foreign trade and travel.3 Because of Athens location on the Aegean Sea, sailing increased trade. While trade was a necessity in Athens, it wasn t in Sparta. Since Sparta was cut off from the rest of Greece by two mountain ranges there was little trade being done. The Spartans rarely traveled from their city state or allowed foreigners into it. This kept out foreign ideas and allowed an element of surprise when it came to attacks.4 Quite possibly one of the greatest differences between the Athenian and the Spartans regarded their attitude towards women. Womens roles in society and their relationship with the community played a major role in the development and effectiveness of each state s government and culture. Unlike the rest of Greek women, Spartan women had the freedom of equality except for voting rights. They did little housework or sewing. Since men were in the military, the women had full authority over their households and were not forced into a life of only childbearing and housekeeping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Analysis Of Plato s Republic And Aristotle s Politics Mercedes Chien Dr. Joel Klein Contemporary Civilization 2 November 2015 Family in Political Society Plato s Republic and Aristotle s Politics both accredit nature to the teleological functions of men, women, and children. Nevertheless, each philosopher defines family differently to support their main goals of finding the right type of society. While Plato does not conform to the traditional definition of a family with a husband, wife, and children and instead defines the role of men and women separately, Aristotle uses the family as a microcosm of political society, in the hopes of showing readers how to create a just society for the former and a virtuous one for the latter. Plato describes the Kallipolis the ideal city for the ancient Greeks in his Republic. The Kallipolis prides itself on abiding by the truth of justice, which Plato defines as a citizen doing one s one work that fits his character (Plato 119). By doing one s own work, the citizen is contributing to the greater good of society, which Plato coins as the ultimate key to justice accordingly, the better [will be ruling] the worse, [which] is to be described as temperate and master of itself (117). This specialization characterizes the role of family in the political society one that consists of each individual doing one s own work to contribute to the greater good. However, the family in the Republic is so loosely created that readers may interpret the family as nonexistent in Plato s novel. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Tourism And Tourism . Introduction Our research question is What happens to tourism in cities after being impacted by a terrorist attack? Most tourists will seek safe and secure destinations when travelling which is why we hypothesize that they will avoid destinations impacted by terrorist attacks in the short term. Terrorism can be defined as an act of targeted violence that appears to intimidate or coerce a sector of the population and/or a government s policies to achieve political or social objectives inside or outside a territorial jurisdiction. The goal of terrorism is to psychologically disrupt possible targets and aim to increase public s fear of terrorism to an illogical and overwhelming state of anxiety. In other words, the goal is for people to believe that anyone and everyone could be a victim at any moment. In a rational world there would be no impact on tourism after terrorist attacks (at least after the immediate danger is handled), however, we expect tourists to avoid such locations beyond this irrationally. Possible behavioural explanations for this avoidance include mortality salience, dread risk and overconfidence, base rate neglect and terror, and news coverage and the availability heuristic. In our research, we will be looking at popular tourist locations because that is where travel is discretionary. These locations include Paris, London, New York, Las Vegas, Manchester, Berlin, Nice, and Orlando, all considered top tourist destinations by the World Tourism Organization. This will allow us to control for travel that is mandatory, such as work based travel. We will use two statistical methods to test our hypothesis: a two sample t test and a regression analysis. The t test will help us compare if the average difference between arrivals 3 months after a terrorist attack and arrivals 3 months into a destination unaffected by terrorism are significant or due to chance. A regression analysis is then used to determine the relationship between death totals in each terrorist attack and tourist arrivals. Existing Research According to Sönmez (1998), when faced with the threat of terrorism tourists tend to engage in a number of behaviors including substituting risky destinations with safer alternatives and ... • 15. Pros And Cons Of Banning The Headscarf Should the headscarf be banned? Recently there has been a push towards banning religious symbolism from the media, especially the hijab. The hijab is a veil that Muslim women wear around their heads to cover their hair and their bosoms; it symbolizes faith and modesty. Many people fear or in some cases feel bad for people who wear the headscarf including niqabs and burqas because they are uneducated and/or ignorant of Islamic teachings which lead them to create inaccurate assumptions and accusations on the matter. Most may believe banning the headscarf will benefit the community in ways that they believe will make people feel more comfortable and they also believe that it will benefit the women who wear the hijab because of the belief that Muslim women who wear the headscarf are oppressed, however, banning the headscarf would lead to the contradiction of Canadian values, discrimination, and go against the religious beliefs of Muslims. The prohibition of the headscarf would go against Canadian values. When Steven Harper was Prime Minister, he wanted to ban the niqab, a cloth that covers the face, for citizens who work for the government and Around 82 percent of Canadians [supported] the niqab ban, ( Trudeau s Gutsy Post Victory Speech Shatters Stereotypes ). Huntington s Disease Research Paper Huntington s disease (HD) is a rare and fatal disease known as a polyglutamine neurodegenerative disorder effecting only 4 10 per 100,000 people of European decent (Driver Dunckly et. Al 2007). This means there is a problem with the trinucleotide that codes for glutamine, cytosine adenine guanine (CAG). In the case of HD there is an extreme overproduction of the CAG repeats in the protein huntingtin. Accumulation of this mutated form of the protein in neurons causes cell atrophy which in turn causes the brain to malfunction. The striatal cells appear to be the most vulnerable to the inclusion bodies formed by the aggregates of mutant huntingtin. As the disease progresses and more inclusion bodies are accumulated the striatal cells begin to die at a faster rate than they are reproduced. The death of these cells cause the striatum to degrade. The exact mechanisms by which the striatal cells function is disrupted is still being researched, however it is theorized that the damage to the mitochondria from mutant huntingtin or toxic glutamine segments is one of the culprits (Turner, et. Al 2010). The basal ganglia allows one to start and stop movement, controls cognition and comprehension, and also controls mood. The degradation of the striatum interrupts all of these function which attributes to the clinical manifestations of the disease. One function of this juxtaposition of the rational and the irrational is to subdue or normalize the unknown, and thereby control it. The simultaneity of mutually exclusive emotional states, and the discomfort it might cause, inspires a Freudian analytic critical approach because of its focus on controlling repressed desires through therapeutic rationality. After a summary of the surrealist s use of Freud and a look at Sartre s criticism of surrealism, we will look at surrealism in Sartre s work and derive an existentialist definition of the grotesque and examine how this might reconfigure the surrealist goal of liberation. Andr‚ Breton, author of the many surrealist Manifestoes and the self appointed spokesman and scribe of the surrealist movement, eulogized Freud, who died in 1939, by writing that: . . .the death of Freud is enough to render the future of psychoanalytic ideas uncertain, and threatens once again to turn an exemplary instrument of liberation into an instrument of oppression (Breton 282). Similarly, Aristotle s descriptions of the superiority and inferiority of certain groups are also dependent on his familiarity with each group. Since Plato s Academy, which preached an elitist philosophy (Welch, Marshall and Billig, 10), was mostly male (Reeve), Aristotle ranks males over females, fathers over mothers, and husbands over wives. Similarly, Aristotle places masters over slaves as he was a free citizen living among other free citizens; by corollary of such an authority based dynamic, he also ranks natural rulers above subjects. Finally, as Aristotle had only lived in Greece before Politics was published, he had no personal exposure to the barbarian Persians, and thus stated that Hellenes, a term describing all Greeks unified together, were superior to the Persians (Biography.com).
