Zoology And Religion In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi
Martel (2002:19) I know zoos are no longer in people good graces and religion faces the same
problem. Certain illusions about freedom plague them both . Through this quote the reader notice
that there are aspects related between zoology and religion in Life of Pi. In the beginning of the
novel we are introduced to zoology and religion. The author make it clear to the reader that Pi had
majors in both subjects zoology and religion and later use that knowledge to help him do things
one can say is impossible.
Zoology is defined as the scientific study of animals (YourDictionary) . Zoology has always been a
very big factor throughout Pi s childhood as he grew up with a father who ran a zoo. Pi was
awarded for being the best student in zoology and because of his excellence and the knowledge
he had about Zoology he was able to help his father in the zoo. Pi s father realized that he Pi was
interested in knowing a very dangerous wild animal called Richard Parker that ... Show more

Yann Martel used thirst as an important element throughout the book. It is also linked to the tiger s
original name. Pi is not physical or mentally thirsty for water but rather for the spirit of God.
Through Pi s thirst for God s spirit Yann Martel creates a link to the Bible and Pi as the savior,
Christ died in a hard way but only complained about being thirsty. Yann Martel compares Christ s
suffering with the suffering of Pi on the lifeboat with no water. With that aspects being compared
the reader can already estimate the future conditions that there will be a positive outcome of Pi s
tragic journey just like there was with Christ. Pi could not let his fear for the tiger stand in his
way of being alive. If he would have allowed that, that would have caused him to get scared, lose
his concentration and becoming vulnerable to the tiger. Deep down he knew there was a living
God that will help and guide

Common Forms Of Collective Behavior
Collective behavior is a term sociologists use to refer to a miscellaneous set of behaviors in
which large numbers of people engage. More specifically, collective behavior refers to relatively
spontaneous and relatively unstructured behavior by large numbers of individuals acting with or
being influenced by other individuals. Relatively spontaneous means that the behavior is
somewhat spontaneous but also somewhat planned, while relatively unstructured means that the
behavior is somewhat organized and predictable but also somewhat unorganized and
unpredictable. As a whole, though, collective behavior is regarded as less spontaneous and less
structured than conventional behavior, such as what happens in a classroom, a workplace, or
the other settings for everyday behavior with which we are very familiar. As just noted, the term
collective behavior refers to a miscellaneous set of behaviors. As such, these behaviors often
have very little in common with each other, even if their basic features allow them to be
classified as collective behavior. Common forms of collective behavior discussed in this section
include crowds, mobs, panics, riots, disaster behavior, rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and
fads and crazes. Of these forms, some (crowds, panics, riots, and disasters) involve people who
are generally in each other s presence and who are more or less interacting with each other, while
other forms (rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and fads and crazes) involve people

Disciplinary action refers to the actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prevention is best done by making company standards known and understood in advance. The
basic objectives however is to encourage employee self discipline. In this way the employees
maintain their own discipline rather than have management impose it. Employees are more likely
to support standards that they have helped create. They also will give more support to standards
that are stated positively instead of negatively, and when they have been told the reasons behind a
standard so that it will make sense to them.
Corrective discipline:
Corrective discipline is action that follows infraction of a rule; it seeks to discourage further
infractions so that future act will be in compliance with standards. Typically the corrective action
is a penalty of some type and is called a disciplinary action. Examples are a warning or suspension
with or without pay.
POLICIES OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION
In any social system, irrespective of its nature, it is important for the participant to determine a set
of rules that will regulate the conduct of its members and should be observed in order to function
successfully.
Similarly so it is important in the workplace to determine a set of policies to regulate the
relationship between the employees and the employer in the form of a disciplinary procedure.
The code is based on the following principles:
The right of management to take appropriate disciplinary steps against any worker, who acts in a

The Man Who Killed A Shadow By Richard Wright
Richard Wright s short story entitled, The Man Who Killed A Shadow showed the reality and
truth of a black man s life and how quickly it can be jeopardized when race and sex are mixed
together. When I began reading the story I felt heartbroken for the main character because he just
seemed like a good human being. Saul basically grew up with no role models to guide him in his
life and his parents and grandmother died when he was a young boy. Saul quickly had to adapt to
these changes and began working to support himself. When Saul began working at a young age he
did not understand why the shadows or white peoplesaw him as inferior. This was something that he
noticed that black peoplejust seemed to accept and he began to accept it as well even though he
had no idea why. Saul had to continue to work for the white shadows became increasingly
unhappy with the way his life was going. The narrator states, At the age of fifteen Saul knew
that the life he was living was to be his lot, that there no way to rid himself of his plaguing sense
of unreality, no way to relax and forget (187). It was extremely depressing to me that Saul knew
at the age of fifteen that this was the reality of the rest of his life. He knew he would never be
happy and that he would have to work for the white shadows in order to feed himself. One of the
ways that Saul copes with his unfortunate reality is by drinking heavily. It is the only thing that
takes his mind off of his daily life and made him

Definition Of Personal Change Model
Personal Change Model In the design industry, where clients can drop you at anytime, Cre8Deisgn
depends upon an operational system flow to exceed time and creative expectations in order to
deliver excellent deigns that attract for the future clients. Cre8Design is a design studio focused on
graphic design, visualization, product design, webpage design, and much more. Unfortunately,
clients have been criticizing the lack of coordination with their design services. The client is contact
by the administrator in addition to other various other members of the Cre8Design team, each
providing a different set of opinions regarding their product or service. The client is unable to
clearly understand the progress of their product or service with so many varying remarks (see
appendix 1). (Cre8Design, 2014) (Anderson, 2015) The organization has an issue with
collaboration, specifically the administrator s ability to lead a client and the creative subordinates
through a project effectively. In addition, the organizations had a group dynamic issue that affects
communication networks and teamwork capabilities. The situation s organizational behavior issues
fed into the efficiency of system wide operations. The administrator needs to be assessed for
leadership capabilities and has a duty to develop competency in order to lead the team all through
intervention activities and maintain the concepts after intervention completion. With competent

Hypatia Research Paper
Hypatia of Alexandria was one of the first female mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher in
her time. She, also, was one of the prime female mathematicians, in her time, to have existing
records of her life and work. Hypatia was born 350 or 370 CE in Alexandria, Egypt and died in 414
CE. During that time period, Hypatiadefied all odds in the educational field. However, even though
Hypatia made many achievements, she is most known for her infamous death.
Her father Theon of Alexandria was also a mathematician and an astronomer. He was one of the
last professors who taught at the University of Alexandria before the tragedy took place. Theon, in
his field of work, edited and commented on the final solutions text in math to make it easy for his
students to learn. Later on, Hypatia contributed to his later edition according to Hypatia: Great

As an apprentice to her father, Hypatia continued to preserve the Greek mathematical and
astronomical heritage just as her as her father did. According to the article Hypatia by Michael
Deak, She is credited with commentaries (comments and explanations) on Apollonius of Perga s
Conic and Diophantus of Alexandria s Arithmetic, as well as an astronomical table. Apollonius of
Perga s Conic are theories created by Apollonius of Perga who was a Greek geometer, meaning he
was a mathematician who studied geometry. Specifically, the conic section dealt with hyperbolas,
parabolas, and ellipses. Diophantus of Alexandria s Arithmetic are theories created by Diophantus
of Alexandria, who was a Greek mathematician who studied algebra. Diophantus essentially
brought symbolism to the algebraic world. Hypatia, also, did a lot of commentaries on her father s

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Scaffolds
As previously defined, a composite material consists of two or more materials where polymers are
used as matrix materials usually. These materials behave together to produce the best properties of
the scaffold, duplicating the same composite features of bone. In particular, polymer based
composite scaffolds may mimic the structure of natural bonewhich is mainly made of HA and
collagen. Showing better osteoconductivity, HA can be considered the inorganic reinforcing phase
of the composite scaffold, while polymers such as PCL, PLLA, PGA, PLGA function as the
organic matrix. Bioactive phases creating reinforcement in the polymerbased composite can also
change the degradation behavior. Composite scaffolds made of polymer reinforced with HA seem
to be promising substrates for bone tissue engineering because of their outstanding mechanical
properties and osteoconductivity.

The effective synergic role of пѓЎ TCP bioactive particles and PLA fibers on the morphology and
mechanical behavior of the final composite scaffold was assessed, as well as the interaction
between the ceramic phase and the highly organized fiber reinforced polymeric structure (60).
The integration of biodegradable PLA fibers into the PCL matrix allows a mechanical response
that is ideal to maintain the spaces required for cellular in growth and matrix production. The
addition of bioactive пѓЎ TCP particles, through a hardening reaction, generates needle like crystals
of calcium deficient hydroxyapatite similar to natural bone apatite, which interact with the fiber
reinforced polymer. This interaction strongly enhances the mechanical response in compression by

Music Is The Greatest Singer Of The 20th Century
The culture of music is one of the most ever evolving outlets society has, people from all around
the world can find common ground between simple beats and rythyms. Music genres are built
off of one another to develop new and unique genres, ranging from classical blues to heavy metal
bands. In between the years 1960 and 2010 America has had over 13 diverse genres rule over
musics Hot 100. Numerous talented artists have advanced music to what the world knows it as
today. Frank Sinatra is one of the most well known and influential singers throughout the history
of music, indisputably being the greatest singer of the 20th Century. Sinatra engineered the idea
of colloquially conventional, his music was a mix of romantics and compelling truth. In 1939
Frank Sinatra released, From the Bottom of My Heart a classic orchestra based song showing
the formal romance in his songs. In between the years 1943 and 1946 Sinatra had 17 Top 10
chart singles. After his limelight his career earnings dwindled down to $30,000 a record, as music
taste shifted away from Sinatra s style. He returned to fame as an actor throughout the 50 s to
regain his fame, and had another opportunity at the music industry in the 60 s. Little did he know
in 1966 through 1967 he would released three of his Top 10 singles. (Simon, and Shuster. Frank
Sinatra Biography. Rolling Stone.) Another band that allowed a positive change in music was The
Beatles, who gained their fame through their success as composers.

Importance Of Reading In My Life
Life In Between The Pages Everybody reads. Everybody has picked up a book at least once in
their life and flipped through its pages. Everybody reads, but once they reach that final page, do
they feel an indifference, or do they feel a personal connection? From early childhood to young
adulthood, reading has always been a part of my life. Reading had always been important to me
because as a child, I was very shy, and being an only child, I had a lot of time on my own, so I
often turned to books to fuel my urge for adventure. Reading became personal to me at a very
young age because I read as if I was living in the book myself. Ever since that point in my life, my
joy of reading continued to flourish. The pages of my books grew thicker and thicker as I aged,
and the genres broadened and the vocabulary matured. Literature has played a meaningful role in
my life since the very beginning and helped shape me into the kind of person I am today, it has
influenced my personality directly, and the close relationship I hold with literature. If we are
going to be reflecting on the impact literature has had on me as a person, it would make the most
logical sense to rewind all the way back to the earliest point of reading in my life. Childhood. I
learned to read the same way most children did, in Kindergarten. There I was taught letters and the
sounds that they made, and from there, to put two sounds together to form a word. I caught on
very fast, I was 5 years old when I fully started

Wonders Woman Vs Wonder Woman
There are no previous versions of the Wonder Woman movie to compare Patty Jerkins s Wonder
Woman to, consequently that serve it well, it should stand alone. There should be no demands to
not ruin an all time favorite movie, furthermore, we all know that comic book movies, for the most
part, stand apart from the comic books and television shows.
So what should we expect from Then Wonder Womanmovie in 2017, well one thing we shouldn t
expect is anything that pantomimes Batman versus Superman or Suicide Squad, nor should we
expect a reincarnation of Iron Man, or any other Marvel movie. To clarify, I am not diminishing
any of those properties, but Wonder Woman is a singular, mighty, formidable warrior, who s

Breaking The Prairie Symbol
A Symbol of the Pioneer Glory: Breaking the Prairie
The pioneer and all his train are now arrived safely in the realm of Romance. His prairie
schooner drawn by oxen, his log cabin...his prairie of a thousand variable charms...his founding of
government... all these, because they are long past and we are proud of the courage and
hardihood of our fathers...and a little proud of ourselves for having descended from them all these
transmuted to the very stuff of fable, the very texture of myth. The glory of Lincoln is not
unconnected with the pioneer s proper glory, for Lincoln was subject to hardships of the early
settlers.

This can be explained particularly in the case of the Morrill Act signed by the former president
himself in 1862, which established the donation of public lands to various states in order to
establish universities with three land grant ideals: higher education that is accessible to all, the
obligations of universities to teach liberal arts and practical subjects, and to share knowledge far
beyond the campus borders. Iowa was the first state to accept the Act, making Iowa Agricultural
College and Model Farm the nation s first land grant institution. Until today, Iowa State still
remains true to the land grant missions, and continues to strive for excellence as a national leader
of modern land grant institutions. Speaking of which, I realize the first land grant ideal: Open
higher education to all regardless of race, gender and background is closely associated with one of
the greatest achievements of Lincoln the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation that led to the
abolishment of slavery in the United States. If it were not for Lincoln s contributions, the ideal
might have not been made possible. Furthermore, the incorporation of Lincoln esque figures as
laboring men in the mural reflects the former president s humble origins, whose hard

Essay on Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology
Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology
The role of reflexivity in Anthropology has changed a great deal over time. The effects of doing
ethnography on the ethnographer was not considered an important mode of inquiry in the past.
While inevitably, going to far distant lands and living with a culture so different from your own
will at least cause the ethnographer to reflect on personal issues but most likely will cause
profound changes in the way he or she will view the world. But in the past these changes were not
important. What was necessary for the ethnographer to do in the past was to document a culture
break it down structurally and quantify the observations made. The reflexive nature of his or her
experiences were of little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Malinowski, 11) This basically means that it is the role of the ethnographer to rationalize and
put in writing the ways of existence of another culture. What he gains from the experience of
living with the trobriand islanders is of no concern the people he was writing for. It is my belief
that perhaps the reason that the anthropologists of the past have placed so much importance on
structuralizing and bringing into written fruition the laws that the natives live by but are not
aware of, is to give others the idea that their research and inquiry are purely scientific and by no
means reflexive. The reason that they do this is probably to get backing by institutions in order
so they may have their travels paid for and so they may be recognized as a scholar by a scholarly
reading audience.
As time has gone on more and more Anthropologists have talked about how their ethnographic
research has effected their thinking. At first they integrated the reflexive nature of their research in
a sort of roundabout way. For instance the notion that different cultures and peoples really don t
structure their realities all that differently. (Levi Strauss) While this may not seem to be reflexive
and it definitely is not blatantly expressed in the text, it is more philosophical and more geared
towards stimulating thoughts about the nature of life as we know it. While Levi Strauss may not
have stated this outright (he still had to appear

Personal Counseling Characteristics
My Personal Counseling Characteristics Capuzzi, Stauffer, and Gross (2016) highlighted the
existence of core conditions identified throughout the counseling literature and research as an
essential piece of the therapeutic relationship (p. 8). Possessing and demonstrating these
characteristics and behaviors strengthen the helping alliance and aid in effectiveness as a counselor
when guiding the client to achieve optimal wellness (Capuzzi et al., 2016). The following narrative
outlines characteristics and behaviors emphasized as strengths necessary when developing a
therapeutic alliance with a client and those acknowledged as potential challenges or weaknesses
hindering the development of a therapeutic alliance. Additionally, explanations are discussed for
selected strengths and challenges as well as strategies to address challenges and weaknesses.
An Area of Strength Warmth as a core concept essential to the helping relationship is regarded as
the counselor s ability to convey genuine caring and concern to clients (Capuzzi et al., 2016, p. 11).
Without this ability to convey warmth as a counselor, the counseling process will not be effective,
especially as I believe warmth is essential to building rapport and promoting an environment in
which clients feel comfortable disclosing intimate details of their lives. After all, a client may be
more reluctant to disclose intimate aspects of their life if they believe that the individual to which
they are disclosing does not

127 Hours Theory
In this essay, I will examine 127 Hours and it s representation of the real life event of getting
trapped in a canyon without any sort of communication to the outside world and without the
acknowledgment of family and friends. I will use the analysis of behaviour for Aron Ralston during
his trap to bring forth the films objective for promoting continuous faith in one s self,
courageousness and insurance of safety through proper communication. Such evaluation will be
done through the usage of theories of Gombrich s cognitive versus affective belief that states the
difference between sayings and actions, and Freud s psychoanalytic theory of ritual and neurosis
that places repetitive behaviours as those of neurotics to withdraw from reality.... Show more

Gombrich sheds light on the fact that people tend to show differences in what they claim to
believe and what they act upon. His theory, cognitive versus affective belief, takes into account
behaviour and the mind to prove opposition between believed ideas and actions thus showing
that actions can be as meaningful as faith. In 127 Hours, after being trapped in the canyon for
multiple days with barely enough food and water, Aron carves RIP 75 03 ARON RALSTON on
the walls after recording an introduction of himself and his situation with his camera. Yet, Aron
still aims to preserve his food and, especially, water up until he ran out and had to resort to
cutting his arm off to rescue himself. Aron itching such a phrase reflects his cognitive belief that
he will die stuck in the canyon. Also, it symbolizes mental relinquishing and the vanishing of
hope since it represents his tombstone. Furthermore, the fact that the first few sentences Aron
records since his fall into the canyon consist of a plea to send the camera to his family also
constitute to his cognitive belief of death. However, his cognitive belief does not match with his
actions while being trapped, his affective belief. Instead of completely giving up through the
consumption of all his sustenance and waiting for death, Aron fights to survive by carefully
monitoring his food and water intakes. As well as that, Aron s constant trails of escape and
methods of keeping himself warm in the cold nights disprove his cognitive belief of giving into
death as his affective belief is centered not only on survival but also escaping alive and adapting to
his current environment. Of course, Aron s affective belief in this case is heavily influenced by
human instinct, but Aron goes a higher level regarding his need for survival when he cuts his arm
off to escape. Even though

Stress And Heart Stress
Sometimes physical stress can contribute to having a heart attack. Doing intense physical activity
will make the hormone adrenaline is released during intense physical activity. There is also very
low blood levels of potassium or magnesium, major blood loss, and lack of oxygen. Also the
tendency to have arrhythmias run in some families and is passed through genes. An example of
this is long QT syndrome, which is a disorder of the hearts electrical activity. The problems with
tiny pores on the surface of heart muscle cells cause the disorder. Some people choose to drink too
much alcohol or smoke cigarettes to control their stress, but these habits can increase bloodpressure
and damage arterywalls. And your body s response to stress may be a headache, back strain, or
stomach pains. Stress can also strip your energy, mess up your sleep and make you feel cranky,
forgetful and out of control. A stressful situation will set off a chain of events. Your body
releases adrenaline, a hormone that temporarily causes your breathing and heart rate to speed up
and your blood pressure to rise. When stress is constant, your body remains in high gear off and
on for days or weeks at a time. Although the link between stress and heart disease isn t clear,
chronic stress may cause some people to drink too much alcohol which will increase your blood
pressure and damage the artery walls.

Taking a Look at Medieval Tournaments
In the 17th century, medieval tournaments became unpopular because of the invention of guns and
crossbows. Tournaments are usually competitions in a sport and the winner is rewarded with a
prize. There were many types of tournaments that knights could compete and or participate in
during the Middle Ages. In tournaments, you could gain prizes, reputation, and respect. There were
many things that could change the outcome of tournaments depending on what type of lances you
used or the armor. The tournaments served as a symbol for lives of knights in the Middle Ages. This
is shown in these three ways: chivalry, their daily life, and types of battles they participated in.
Chivalry was the code that knights practiced daily. This code knights lived by, consisted of
religious, moral, and social protocols. The religious protocol is exemplified by always keeping
faith in themselves and their peers. Another way that religion was exemplified by their code,
was to worship God and keep his church in check, and to not sin. They were also required to
always hold forth the truth. Some ways that exemplified their morality, were by living for fame
and glory. Knights had the obligation to be social, to respect their elders and to take orders from
those who had more power than they did as a knight. The knight would take on the challenges of
bravely fighting to defend their lords. There were many things made at tournaments, one of which
was respect and reputation. Being respected as a

Why Trophies Can Be Successful
Neil Patel once said, WInning provides happiness and losing provides wisdom. This is relevant
because in today s age we focus too much on winning and not what you gain when you lose.
Today participation trophies and prizes are almost given (Ashley Merryman.) Trophies can be a
great way to help motivate kids, but giving trophies out after a loss will misconscrew a their
thought process. Trophies were once rare things (Ashley Merryman.) When you were younger only
the best out of the best got trophies now as long you show you get a trophy. Competitiveness has
dwindled down to nothing because coaches feel everyone deserves a trophy. In Southern California,
a regional branch of the American Youth Soccer Organization hands out roughly 3,500 awards

How Is Napoleon Similar To Joseph Stalin In Animal Farm
In Animal Farm many of the characters can be related back into everyday life around the world.
This is due to the fact that Ian Wooldridge creates the characters to represent dictators around the
world. In Animal Farm You can see that Ian Wooldridge relates the characters to dictators by two of
the main characters being Napoleon to Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky.
Joseph Stalin was the dictator and leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).
Between the years of 1929 1953 the USSR became a global military heavyweight underneath the
control of Stalin. He used his power and ruled by terror he did not care about the people of the
USSR as many of his innocent sullivans died during his power and time as leader.
In Animal Farm Napoleon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many points that can confirm this. Including that in the USSR and Animal Farm they
are both duel leaders as Stalin has Trotsky, and Napoleon has Snowball. Each Stalin and
Napoleon have defenders and protectors of some type of to enforce their power in Animal Farm
Napoleon has the guard dogs and Stalin has the secret police force.
Leon Trotsky was a communist theorist and activist he was in charge of the Russian October
Revolution. He was the officer for foreign affairs under Lenin, but he resigned after conflicting
with Lenin s believes. He then come to be the red army leader and led to victory in the Russian
Civil War. After Lenin s death, he has a lack of allies to support him while Stalin has many to
support from several people. He was banished from the Soviet Union after losing in a struggle
against Stalin and he was murdered under Stalin s directions.
Ian Wooldridge introduces us to Snowball when the other pigs decide to spread Old Major s
message throughout the farm. He s a more vicious pig than Napoleon, he is much smarter he can
speak more fluently and write, whereas napoleon cannot. He was not considered to have the same
impact of character. The animals were fooled by Snowball s appearance because he s friendly and
lively, they assume that he s not as smart as he is and is stupid compared to the other

Mother Tongue By Joan Didion
Title Three essays depict three different attributes; personal opinion, perception, and attitude,
although they are based on variation and in state of mind. Amy Tan in Mother Tongue talks
about the forms of the English language. She says, variation in languages creates many
obstacles in ordered to be socialized and cared among people. Joan Didion in On Morality
explores her perception that we don t have no way of knowing what is right and what is wrong ,
what is good and what is evil . And George Orwell in Shooting an Elephant talks about his
internal war between his mind and feelings. However, his mind wins because he wants to grow
up his self respect among the Indians during his service period as a police officer in a colonialism

very young and apparently drunk, was killed instantly. His girl was found who was bleeding
deeply, had driver to the nearest doctor. And made her husband to stay on the highway looking

apart by coyotes may seem only a sentimental consideration, but one of the promises we make to
one another is that we will try to retrieve our casualties, try not to abandon our dead to the
coyotes. Didion causes the reader to question themselves as to what moral decision one would

Raising The Flag On Iwo Jima By Joe Rosenthal
Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima is a historic photograph by Joe Rosenthal taken on February 23,
1945. The photograph depicts six men, five United States Marines and one United States Navy
corpsman, raising the United States flag on Mount Suribachi, during the battle of Iwo Jima in
World War II. Raising the flag on Iwo Jima was the second flag raising of the day, the first being
raised early in the morning after the area was secure. Joe Rosenthal s photo was printed
thousands of times, won the Pulitzer Prize for Photography, and has been made into stamps and
statutes. Rosenthal uses color, lines, and structure to convey the message that the United States
won the war. Rosenthal utilizes the black and white color of the photo to help convey his
message of sadness. During World War II, over 6,000 marines were killed in battle, so the dark
grey and black help project the message that it was a time of and sadness. The picture is statuesque
in that it looks like someone built a statue on the top of Mount Suribachi and the black and white
color adds to that affect. The black and white color heavily emphasizes the shadows in the picture
and it gives the picture depth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The American flag is the most obvious line captured in the photograph. The marines are raising
the flag showing victory and defeat over the Japanese. The raising of the National flag is
recognized as a victory; just as lowering the flag is recognized as a time of mourning and sadness.
The landscape forms horizontal lines in the background, adding to a grimmer and more mourning
look. Although the picture was taken after a hard fought battle, the picture still looks sad and
supports that the battle was a hard fight and thousands of people

The Photograph As Fine Art By Graham Clarke
Graham Clarke, in his book The Photograph as Fine Art , states that photography can be
considered as fine art ; which is a statement that I entirely agree with. People all over the world
take photos everyday, so why is someone considered an artist while the other is just a person taking
photographs? A lot of characteristics differentiate an artist from a hobbyist or a memory collector,
such as the ability to properly execute his artistic visions and capture them in an photograph.
Another characteristic is how he chooses to structure his photograph and how he positions the
objects inside the frame. Artists observe their surroundings in a different way and capture moments
in creative and beautiful photographs. There is a major difference between a snapshot and a
photograph. A snapshot captures a moment in time; a photograph captures the emotions, feelings,
and beauty from that moment in time 1.
When straight photography came out in the early 20th century, it was a revolutionary approach to
taking photographs that justly gave photography its own place in the world of art and far away
from paintings. Straight photography encourages the purity of tone and vision and is strongly
against any manipulation done to the photos after taking it.
As Graham describes its approach in saying: Speaking against manipulation, as such, it distinguishes
photography from painting as a unique medium in its own right with its own unique possibilities 2.

Essay about The Independence of Spainish Colonies in America
The Spanish empire in the Americas faced huge political, social and economic problems in the
sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The empire was stretched to its limit politically and socially
with the threat of an uprising from the slave population in its empire. The economy also played
a major role and the outlook was just as bleak for Spain with the American colonies drifting
towards independence. Spain did not seem able to cope with its empire and had found itself in
trouble with regards to mining which was at the centre of political and social systems, the military
and the empire s economic activity. By 1600, mining which was integral to Spain s prosperity and
growth, was under a huge amount of pressure. This pressure was caused by... Show more content on

Although the economy of the Americas relied heavily on mining there was also a large emphasis on
agricultural development and manufacturing in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. However,
the development of agricultural during these two centuries led to further economic turmoil within
the Americas. The agricultural system was changed from the traditional Indian subsistence
agriculture to commercial crops and plantations. This change in agriculture led to the formation of
latifundios and minifundios which were not as self sufficient as the traditional Indian subsistence
farming. The sugar boom meant that the agricultural system in place led to a loss of Indian land
and water rights. Venezuela became the centre of the Americas agricultural economy, due to its
success of farming cacao in the central valleys and also due to its livestock. However, the success
of its livestock meant that large and intrusive estancias or ranches were constructed. This was
especially true in the Pampas region of South America, which brought in development of a
previously undeveloped and unspoilt region.
The Americas move towards independence was slowly picking up pace as a result of its success in
manufacturing. For example, wine within the Americas was now

Informative Speech On Birth Control
Who in here has heard of or even know what the term birth control is? According to
medicinenet.com, birth control is the use of any practices, methods, or devices to prevent
pregnancy from occuring in sexually active women. Today, I will be talking about a couple of
methods of birth control which include: the pill, the patch, and the implant. Another method I will
be talking to you about isn t always considered a form of birth control, but it actually is; condoms.
My goal today is to not only inform you of the many birth controls but to also encourage you to
look at the pros and the cons of every method if you are using contraception. Birth control is a very
broad topic with many alternatives which can impact your lifestyle in many ways, therefore you
should consider these alternatives before applying any form of contraceptive into your body and
find the method that works best for you.
Not many of us know this, but birth control can be very risky when you don t know much about
your body. What most of us do know are the general benefits which include acne reduction, period
regulation, and easing menstrual cramps. A review on U.S. News World Report on August 7,
2006, featuring Christine Larson, 31 trials and 12,579 women, looked at the the effect of birth
control and facial acne and found that some oral contraceptives were effective in reducing acne. It
was also was established that 750,000 800,000 teenage women in the U.S. experience pregnancy

Summary Of Le Morte DArthur And Campbell s Mordred
Between Malory s Le Morte D Arthur and Campbell s Mordred: A Tragedy in Five Acts, people
began desiring more of a visually entertaining story with less stories being told in person and the
emergence of films which accounts for Campbell s version of the Arthurian story having a more
physically evil looking Mordredthan the Mordred that Malory portrays. Campbell s version of the
story also focuses more on how Mordred is an illegitimate child while Malory focuses on
Mordred being the son of King Lot rather than of Arthur. The difference in parentage is because
Malory lived during a time period when the Christian religion was changing society with people
s beliefs of what religion was changing and the soon to be Protestant Reformation, so people
would look down on a text that includes incest as part of the main plot. Malory puts his focus on
the actions that Mordred does and how he acts evil towards others and those he hates. Campbell
does not have Mordred commit as many evil deeds but instead focuses on making Mordred seem
inherently evil and grotesque. When Arthur is talking about Mordred to Merlin in his disgust of
his own illegitimate son he describes Mordred as, that that blackness? to show his contempt for
Mordred and how people view him (Campbell). Campbell further has Mordred describe himself as
dark, misshapen, and monstrous even though he has yet to commit any true evil to give others any
reason other than his appearance to see him as evil. Mordred even spends

Examples Of Figurative Language In To An Athlete Dying Young
A. E. Housman was a well known poet of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Within his two
most famous publications, A Shropshire Lad and Last Poems, Housman effectively uses his adept
understanding of language, its usage, and style to portray the significant themes behind all of his
poems. To an Athlete Dying Young is a perfect example of Housman s ability to convey his
message to the reader through his use of diction, syntax, and tone. Writers make specific choices in
the type of words, sentence structures, phrases and figurative language that they use in their poetry.
These decisions combine to create particular meaning within their works. Housman uses a formal
diction in To an Athlete Dying Young which definitely creates a clear and

Mission Objectives Of Jazzpunk
Jazzpunk opens with your character, Agent Polyblank, receiving a mission from his superior The
Director. The mission involves infiltrating the Russian consulate but this game is no Splinter Cell.
Set in an alternate reality where the Cold War is still raging, Polyblank must deal with robots,
spies and some of the strangest gadgets ever seen in a game.
The creators cite comedy films such as Airplane and Naked Gun as major influences on the
gameplay so if you are expecting any type of seriousness from Jazzpunk you are in for a shock.
You are given an overall objective for each mission that is started by swallowing Missionoyl pills
by the way, but after a level starts you are left to your own devices. I strongly suggest that you
actually ignore your mission objective for as long as possible and explore the environments
otherwise you will miss out on some of the best elements that the game has to offer.
What I love about Jazzpunk is that it is totally unpredictable. As you wander around the levels and
interact with the environment you never know what is going to happen next. One minute you
might be helping a frog to hack into the Wi Fi of a coffee shop and the next shooting champagne

the ones that are on offer. If you are not a fan of spoof comedy films and cartoons the humor in

Analysis Of Brother IM Dying

explains her childhood was spent mostly apart from her parents, when they departed for the US
and left her and her brother bob, in the care of Uncle Joseph and TantГ© Denise. Danticat shows
a clear figurative and literal use of voice and expresses how it effects one s life when they have

Using Crossword to Teach Vocabulary
TEACHING ENGLISH VOCABULARY
TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS BY USING CROSSWORD PUZZLE
RAHAJENG
Abstract
Teaching vocabulary is something challenging, especially if it is done to elementary school
students. It is chalenging because elementary school students usually do not like to learn something
in a serious way. They are still children that like to play. A serious way in teaching will just make
them bored. It is why teaching vocabulary to elementary school students requires creativity of the
teacher. One of the alternatives that can be used to teach vocabulary to elementary school students
is by using crossword puzzle. This essay will provide information on the implementation and the
effectiveness of using crossword puzzle in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, by using crossword puzzle, it is students that must be active in finding the meaning of
words by solving or completing the crossword puzzle. In addition, using traditional way will also
take longer time than using crossword puzzle. Students will also get difficulties to recall what they
have learned if they just use the traditional way in learning vocabulary. It will be more effective if
students can experience by themselves how they guess and find the meaning of words by solving
or completing a crossword puzzle.
Students Can Learn Content through Crossword Puzzle
The last reason why using crossword puzzle to teach vocabulary to elementary school students is
effective is that crossword puzzle can make students learn content. Richards and Rodgers state that:
Content Based Instruction refers to an approach to second language teaching in which teaching is
organized around the content or information that students will acquire, rather than around a
linguistic or other type of syllabus. (Richards and Rodgers, 2003: 204)
Therefore, content based instruction emphasizes the information that will be got by students after
they learn something. In content based instruction, language is learned as means to acquire
information. It means that language is learned not only to master or to be able to use it, but also to
get other implicit knowledge found in

The Invasion Of The Vietnam War
Firstly, the invasion of the Vietnam War cannot be justified when the US s ally in the war is a
corrupt democracy. When the Vietnam War began the United States puppet state was Ngo Dinh
Diem s South Vietnam. Diem was a dictator or the President supposedly of South Vietnam that
took power for himself there, and threw all of his civil and political opponents into violent
concentration camps. The South Vietnamese President had also oppressed those of different
religions specifically Buddhism ( NGO DINH DIEM, FIRST PRESIDENT OF SOUTH VIETNAM
. ). Eventually, the Viet Cong who would rather support a communist regime formed due to the
oppressive nature of Diem s ruthless democracy. By the time North Vietnamsought to unify the
country Diem had opposition from all perspectives, including his most trusted peers. Even with his
mockery of a democracy, the United Statesbelieved it had to support his efforts in the defense of
democracy in South Vietnam. The United States did want a change of power, but were willing to
continue with Diem if deemed necessary to win. Benjamin Frankel states this by stating advised the
State Department that the United States should begin to search for an alternative to Diem. On 1
November 1963 South Vietnamese military officers overthrew Diem, and he and his brother were
shot to death ( Vietnam War: Was U.S. Military Intervention in Vietnam Justified? ). Democracy is
about everyone having fair trials, civil liberties, and the right to free speech.

Comparing Traditional Chinese Medicine with South African Zulu Illness and Healing Traditional
Medicine is a term used for all type of unscientific knowledge and belief used within various

Hormogonia Research Paper
Cyanobacteria are an ancient class of aquatic and photosynthetic bacteria. There are various types of
Cyanobacteria such as Nostoc punctiforme, a filamentous cyanobacteria. N. punctiforme has
different cell types such as vegetative cells, akinetes, heterocysts and hormogonia. Vegetative cells
are where photosynthesis occurs. In N. punctiforme, vegetative cells have a third developmental
alternative in which they differentiate into akinetes (dormant spore like cells). Akinetes are
evolutionary precursors of heterocysts (Meeks and Elhai 2002). Heterocysts supply a microaerobic
environment to produce essential proteins for nitrogen fixation. Hormogonia are short filaments
that come from parental filaments and are important for short distance spread of filamentous
cyanobacteria such as Nostoc punctiforme.

The first is the type IV pili theory and the second is the junctional pore theory. Type IV pili are
filaments on bacteria that are involved in motility and adhesion (Craig and Li, 2008). According to
some recent studies there is evidence that hormogonia have pilus like structures. In these studies
they inactivated the pilT like (pilus retraction gene) and pilD like (prepilin peptidase) components,
which changed the surface piliation levels and lowered the symbiotic competency (Duggan et al,
2007). Junctional pores are structures that form around filaments on both sides of each cross wall
or septum. These pores make channels that radiate out and it was found that they may be involved
in gliding movements. The pores are sites where mucilage is secreted and thus leads to the gliding
motility of Nostoc punctiforme (Hoiczyk and Baumeister, 1998). Neither of these theories have
enough evidence to outcompete the other, but some researchers believe that the actual motility
mechanism is a hybrid of

a survey question of our choice. With that question we surveyed 100 students from the same
population. After collecting the responses we input the data into a spreadsheet to find the
frequencies for each answer given. With those frequencies we then found the mean, median, mode,
range, quartile 1, quartile 2, quartile 3, the interquartile range, maximum, minimum, outliers,
standard deviation, and a z score from the data. Further we were to create a hand drawn histogram
and a box and whisker plot. Finding all of these is helping us come to a conclusion as to whether

The next thing I found was the range. To find the range you take the maximum number in the set
minus the minimum number in the set. In my data the range was 60. Next, I found the quartiles
that would be used for my box and whisker plot. To find Quartile 1 you have to find the median
of the data that falls below the median of the entire data. In my data Quartile 1 was 0. You do
almost the same to find Quartile 3. You find the median of the upper half of the data. You can
not use the median to find Quartile 3 so you have to use everything above it. Quartile 3 in my set
of data was 14. Finding Quartile 2 is easy because it is the same as your median. To find any
outliers you have to find the upper limits and the lower limits. To do this you must find the
interquartile range first. To do that, you subtract Quartile 1 from Quartile 3. With the
interquartile range, you then can add it to Quartile 3 and subtract it from Quartile 1. By adding
the interquartile range to Quartile 3 you are creating the upper limit and by subtracting the
interquartile range from Quartile 3 you are finding the lower limits. In this case all four of my
outliers fell above the maximum limit of 36 because you can not fly negative times and 0 falls
within the limits. Lastly, I found the standard deviation of my entire 100 pieces of data. To do
this I wrote all the numbers that would be found of the x axis ( 0 60 ). Then I found the average of

has broken free he can now look all around him, and see the objects as they really are and the
people carrying them as well. While in the movie The Matrix , Neo is using is own eyes for the

  • 2. Zoology And Religion In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi Martel (2002:19) I know zoos are no longer in people good graces and religion faces the same problem. Certain illusions about freedom plague them both . Through this quote the reader notice that there are aspects related between zoology and religion in Life of Pi. In the beginning of the novel we are introduced to zoology and religion. The author make it clear to the reader that Pi had majors in both subjects zoology and religion and later use that knowledge to help him do things one can say is impossible. Zoology is defined as the scientific study of animals (YourDictionary) . Zoology has always been a very big factor throughout Pi s childhood as he grew up with a father who ran a zoo. Through Pi s thirst for God s spirit Yann Martel creates a link to the Bible and Pi as the savior, Christ died in a hard way but only complained about being thirsty. Yann Martel compares Christ s suffering with the suffering of Pi on the lifeboat with no water. With that aspects being compared the reader can already estimate the future conditions that there will be a positive outcome of Pi s tragic journey just like there was with Christ. Pi could not let his fear for the tiger stand in his way of being alive. If he would have allowed that, that would have caused him to get scared, lose his concentration and becoming vulnerable to the tiger. • 3. Common Forms Of Collective Behavior Collective behavior is a term sociologists use to refer to a miscellaneous set of behaviors in which large numbers of people engage. More specifically, collective behavior refers to relatively spontaneous and relatively unstructured behavior by large numbers of individuals acting with or being influenced by other individuals. Relatively spontaneous means that the behavior is somewhat spontaneous but also somewhat planned, while relatively unstructured means that the behavior is somewhat organized and predictable but also somewhat unorganized and unpredictable. As a whole, though, collective behavior is regarded as less spontaneous and less structured than conventional behavior, such as what happens in a classroom, a workplace, or the other settings for everyday behavior with which we are very familiar. As just noted, the term collective behavior refers to a miscellaneous set of behaviors. As such, these behaviors often have very little in common with each other, even if their basic features allow them to be classified as collective behavior. Common forms of collective behavior discussed in this section include crowds, mobs, panics, riots, disaster behavior, rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and fads and crazes. Of these forms, some (crowds, panics, riots, and disasters) involve people who are generally in each other s presence and who are more or less interacting with each other, while other forms (rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and fads and crazes) involve people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prevention is best done by making company standards known and understood in advance. The basic objectives however is to encourage employee self discipline. In this way the employees maintain their own discipline rather than have management impose it. Employees are more likely to support standards that they have helped create. They also will give more support to standards that are stated positively instead of negatively, and when they have been told the reasons behind a standard so that it will make sense to them. Corrective discipline: Corrective discipline is action that follows infraction of a rule; it seeks to discourage further infractions so that future act will be in compliance with standards. Typically the corrective action is a penalty of some type and is called a disciplinary action. Examples are a warning or suspension with or without pay. POLICIES OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION In any social system, irrespective of its nature, it is important for the participant to determine a set of rules that will regulate the conduct of its members and should be observed in order to function successfully. Similarly so it is important in the workplace to determine a set of policies to regulate the relationship between the employees and the employer in the form of a disciplinary procedure. • 6. The Man Who Killed A Shadow By Richard Wright Richard Wright s short story entitled, The Man Who Killed A Shadow showed the reality and truth of a black man s life and how quickly it can be jeopardized when race and sex are mixed together. When I began reading the story I felt heartbroken for the main character because he just seemed like a good human being. Saul basically grew up with no role models to guide him in his life and his parents and grandmother died when he was a young boy. Saul quickly had to adapt to these changes and began working to support himself. When Saul began working at a young age he did not understand why the shadows or white peoplesaw him as inferior. This was something that he noticed that black peoplejust seemed to accept and he began to accept it as well even though he had no idea why. Saul had to continue to work for the white shadows became increasingly unhappy with the way his life was going. The narrator states, At the age of fifteen Saul knew that the life he was living was to be his lot, that there no way to rid himself of his plaguing sense of unreality, no way to relax and forget (187). It was extremely depressing to me that Saul knew at the age of fifteen that this was the reality of the rest of his life. He knew he would never be happy and that he would have to work for the white shadows in order to feed himself. One of the ways that Saul copes with his unfortunate reality is by drinking heavily. Everybody reads, but once they reach that final page, do they feel an indifference, or do they feel a personal connection? From early childhood to young adulthood, reading has always been a part of my life. Reading had always been important to me because as a child, I was very shy, and being an only child, I had a lot of time on my own, so I often turned to books to fuel my urge for adventure. Reading became personal to me at a very young age because I read as if I was living in the book myself. Ever since that point in my life, my joy of reading continued to flourish. The pages of my books grew thicker and thicker as I aged, and the genres broadened and the vocabulary matured. Literature has played a meaningful role in my life since the very beginning and helped shape me into the kind of person I am today, it has influenced my personality directly, and the close relationship I hold with literature. If we are going to be reflecting on the impact literature has had on me as a person, it would make the most logical sense to rewind all the way back to the earliest point of reading in my life. The effects of doing ethnography on the ethnographer was not considered an important mode of inquiry in the past. While inevitably, going to far distant lands and living with a culture so different from your own will at least cause the ethnographer to reflect on personal issues but most likely will cause profound changes in the way he or she will view the world. But in the past these changes were not important. What was necessary for the ethnographer to do in the past was to document a culture break it down structurally and quantify the observations made. (Malinowski, 11) This basically means that it is the role of the ethnographer to rationalize and put in writing the ways of existence of another culture. What he gains from the experience of living with the trobriand islanders is of no concern the people he was writing for. It is my belief that perhaps the reason that the anthropologists of the past have placed so much importance on structuralizing and bringing into written fruition the laws that the natives live by but are not aware of, is to give others the idea that their research and inquiry are purely scientific and by no means reflexive. The reason that they do this is probably to get backing by institutions in order so they may have their travels paid for and so they may be recognized as a scholar by a scholarly reading audience. As time has gone on more and more Anthropologists have talked about how their ethnographic research has effected their thinking. At first they integrated the reflexive nature of their research in a sort of roundabout way. For instance the notion that different cultures and peoples really don t structure their realities all that differently. (Levi Strauss) While this may not seem to be reflexive and it definitely is not blatantly expressed in the text, it is more philosophical and more geared towards stimulating thoughts about the nature of life as we know it. An Area of Strength Warmth as a core concept essential to the helping relationship is regarded as the counselor s ability to convey genuine caring and concern to clients (Capuzzi et al., 2016, p. 11). Instead of completely giving up through the consumption of all his sustenance and waiting for death, Aron fights to survive by carefully monitoring his food and water intakes. As well as that, Aron s constant trails of escape and methods of keeping himself warm in the cold nights disprove his cognitive belief of giving into death as his affective belief is centered not only on survival but also escaping alive and adapting to his current environment. In tournaments, you could gain prizes, reputation, and respect. There were many things that could change the outcome of tournaments depending on what type of lances you used or the armor. The tournaments served as a symbol for lives of knights in the Middle Ages. This is shown in these three ways: chivalry, their daily life, and types of battles they participated in. Chivalry was the code that knights practiced daily. This code knights lived by, consisted of religious, moral, and social protocols. The religious protocol is exemplified by always keeping faith in themselves and their peers. Another way that religion was exemplified by their code, was to worship God and keep his church in check, and to not sin. They were also required to always hold forth the truth. Some ways that exemplified their morality, were by living for fame and glory. Knights had the obligation to be social, to respect their elders and to take orders from those who had more power than they did as a knight. The knight would take on the challenges of bravely fighting to defend their lords. There were many things made at tournaments, one of which was respect and reputation. Being respected as a ... The photograph depicts six men, five United States Marines and one United States Navy corpsman, raising the United States flag on Mount Suribachi, during the battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. Raising the flag on Iwo Jima was the second flag raising of the day, the first being raised early in the morning after the area was secure. Joe Rosenthal s photo was printed thousands of times, won the Pulitzer Prize for Photography, and has been made into stamps and statutes. Rosenthal uses color, lines, and structure to convey the message that the United States won the war. Rosenthal utilizes the black and white color of the photo to help convey his message of sadness. During World War II, over 6,000 marines were killed in battle, so the dark grey and black help project the message that it was a time of and sadness. The picture is statuesque in that it looks like someone built a statue on the top of Mount Suribachi and the black and white color adds to that affect. The black and white color heavily emphasizes the shadows in the picture and it gives the picture depth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 28. The Photograph As Fine Art By Graham Clarke Graham Clarke, in his book The Photograph as Fine Art , states that photography can be considered as fine art ; which is a statement that I entirely agree with. People all over the world take photos everyday, so why is someone considered an artist while the other is just a person taking photographs? A lot of characteristics differentiate an artist from a hobbyist or a memory collector, such as the ability to properly execute his artistic visions and capture them in an photograph. Another characteristic is how he chooses to structure his photograph and how he positions the objects inside the frame. Artists observe their surroundings in a different way and capture moments in creative and beautiful photographs. There is a major difference between a snapshot and a photograph. A snapshot captures a moment in time; a photograph captures the emotions, feelings, and beauty from that moment in time 1. When straight photography came out in the early 20th century, it was a revolutionary approach to taking photographs that justly gave photography its own place in the world of art and far away from paintings. Straight photography encourages the purity of tone and vision and is strongly against any manipulation done to the photos after taking it. As Graham describes its approach in saying: Speaking against manipulation, as such, it distinguishes photography from painting as a unique medium in its own right with its own unique possibilities 2. The empire was stretched to its limit politically and socially with the threat of an uprising from the slave population in its empire. The economy also played a major role and the outlook was just as bleak for Spain with the American colonies drifting towards independence. Spain did not seem able to cope with its empire and had found itself in trouble with regards to mining which was at the centre of political and social systems, the military and the empire s economic activity. By 1600, mining which was integral to Spain s prosperity and growth, was under a huge amount of pressure. This pressure was caused by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the economy of the Americas relied heavily on mining there was also a large emphasis on agricultural development and manufacturing in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. However, the development of agricultural during these two centuries led to further economic turmoil within the Americas. The agricultural system was changed from the traditional Indian subsistence agriculture to commercial crops and plantations. This change in agriculture led to the formation of latifundios and minifundios which were not as self sufficient as the traditional Indian subsistence farming. The sugar boom meant that the agricultural system in place led to a loss of Indian land and water rights. Venezuela became the centre of the Americas agricultural economy, due to its success of farming cacao in the central valleys and also due to its livestock. However, the success of its livestock meant that large and intrusive estancias or ranches were constructed. This was especially true in the Pampas region of South America, which brought in development of a previously undeveloped and unspoilt region. The Americas move towards independence was slowly picking up pace as a result of its success in manufacturing. For example, wine within the Americas was now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Summary Of Le Morte DArthur And Campbell s Mordred Between Malory s Le Morte D Arthur and Campbell s Mordred: A Tragedy in Five Acts, people began desiring more of a visually entertaining story with less stories being told in person and the emergence of films which accounts for Campbell s version of the Arthurian story having a more physically evil looking Mordredthan the Mordred that Malory portrays. Campbell s version of the story also focuses more on how Mordred is an illegitimate child while Malory focuses on Mordred being the son of King Lot rather than of Arthur. The difference in parentage is because Malory lived during a time period when the Christian religion was changing society with people s beliefs of what religion was changing and the soon to be Protestant Reformation, so people would look down on a text that includes incest as part of the main plot. Malory puts his focus on the actions that Mordred does and how he acts evil towards others and those he hates. Campbell does not have Mordred commit as many evil deeds but instead focuses on making Mordred seem inherently evil and grotesque. When Arthur is talking about Mordred to Merlin in his disgust of his own illegitimate son he describes Mordred as, that that blackness? to show his contempt for Mordred and how people view him (Campbell). Campbell further has Mordred describe himself as dark, misshapen, and monstrous even though he has yet to commit any true evil to give others any reason other than his appearance to see him as evil. When the Vietnam War began the United States puppet state was Ngo Dinh Diem s South Vietnam. Diem was a dictator or the President supposedly of South Vietnam that took power for himself there, and threw all of his civil and political opponents into violent concentration camps. The South Vietnamese President had also oppressed those of different religions specifically Buddhism ( NGO DINH DIEM, FIRST PRESIDENT OF SOUTH VIETNAM . ). The United States did want a change of power, but were willing to continue with Diem if deemed necessary to win. Benjamin Frankel states this by stating advised the State Department that the United States should begin to search for an alternative to Diem. There are various types of Cyanobacteria such as Nostoc punctiforme, a filamentous cyanobacteria. N. punctiforme has different cell types such as vegetative cells, akinetes, heterocysts and hormogonia. Vegetative cells are where photosynthesis occurs. In N. punctiforme, vegetative cells have a third developmental alternative in which they differentiate into akinetes (dormant spore like cells). Akinetes are evolutionary precursors of heterocysts (Meeks and Elhai 2002). Heterocysts supply a microaerobic environment to produce essential proteins for nitrogen fixation. In these studies they inactivated the pilT like (pilus retraction gene) and pilD like (prepilin peptidase) components, which changed the surface piliation levels and lowered the symbiotic competency (Duggan et al, 2007). Junctional pores are structures that form around filaments on both sides of each cross wall or septum. These pores make channels that radiate out and it was found that they may be involved in gliding movements. The pores are sites where mucilage is secreted and thus leads to the gliding motility of Nostoc punctiforme (Hoiczyk and Baumeister, 1998). Neither of these theories have enough evidence to outcompete the other, but some researchers believe that the actual motility mechanism is a hybrid of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next thing I found was the range. To find the range you take the maximum number in the set minus the minimum number in the set. In my data the range was 60. Next, I found the quartiles that would be used for my box and whisker plot. To find Quartile 1 you have to find the median of the data that falls below the median of the entire data. In my data Quartile 1 was 0. You do almost the same to find Quartile 3. You find the median of the upper half of the data. You can not use the median to find Quartile 3 so you have to use everything above it. Quartile 3 in my set of data was 14. Finding Quartile 2 is easy because it is the same as your median. To find any outliers you have to find the upper limits and the lower limits. To do this you must find the interquartile range first. To do that, you subtract Quartile 1 from Quartile 3. With the interquartile range, you then can add it to Quartile 3 and subtract it from Quartile 1. By adding the interquartile range to Quartile 3 you are creating the upper limit and by subtracting the interquartile range from Quartile 3 you are finding the lower limits. In this case all four of my outliers fell above the maximum limit of 36 because you can not fly negative times and 0 falls within the limits.
