The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising In The Holocaust
Uprising in the Ghetto The Holocaust is a very known event. The Holocaust was the genocide of Jews
by the German Nazi Party. The Holocaust lasted from 1941 1945. One significance at this time period
was the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising that began on April 19, 1943. German soldiers, along with German
police officers, went into the ghettos to deport any remaining inhabitants ( Warsaw Ghetto Uprising ).
Although the Hitler and the Nazi Party felt like deporting Jews from their homes was right, the people
of the Warsaw Ghettos was not going down without a fight. Events led to the uprising, and many
events occurred during the uprising, but this was still a horrific period and no one should have to
experience what the Jews of Warsaw experienced. The same way every story has a conflict and rising
action, so does the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. This uprising happened during the middle of the
Holocaust. The conflict was that Jews were being deported to labor and concentration camps. The
rising actions would be that Jews formed organizations called the Żydowska Organizacja Bojowa
(ŻOB) and the Żydowski Związek Wojskowy (ŻZW) (Bell). The Jews of Warsaw began preparing
themselves for the uprising by obtaining weapons from the Polish underground, Jews in London, and
the United States (Bell). They smuggled goods into the ghettos and taught women and children how to
shoot guns (Bell). They stored food and made underground hideouts. We collected mattresses and

Covert Monitoring Of Private Communications
Shortly after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the US Patriot Act granted was enacted granting
wide legal authority to the intelligence community as a defensive measure against future terrorist
attacks. Among those new powers, included in Article 215, is the right to obtain business records,
while imposing a gag order on the party holding those records. This law remains the foundation upon
which the current NSA phone metadata collection campaign is operated. In October 2001, President
Bush ordered the National Security Agency to commence covert monitoring of private
communications through the nation s telephone companies without the requisite FISA warrants. The
agency began surveilling the Internet for emails, financial data, and voice messaging on belief that
such metadata was not constitutionally protected. In effect, by penetrating the Internet for text and the
parallel Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) for voice, the NSA had gained access to much of
the world s telecommunications. At the end of Bush s term in 2008, Congress had enacted laws that
not only retrospectively legalized these programs, but also prepared the way for NSA surveillance to
grow unchecked. Rather than restrain the agency, President Obama oversaw the expansion of its

Reflections on Research Based Writing Essay
If we understand library users as readers who write, we should reflect on when and why they write.
Generally, most users in academic libraries engage in writing based on research or research based
writing. How are we to understand this particular genre that consumes so many users time and
instructors assessment.
Consider first what research based writing is not. It is not creative writing, although creative writers
will often research some aspect of their subject. It is not journalistic writing, although the journalist
makes steady use of sources. It is not writing for publication, since it seldom finds an audience of
more than five. It is not an essay, although it has a beginning, middle, and end. Eliminating these
options, what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author s opinions will be based on reasons and evidence, not emotions or hearsay. The author s
reasoning will follow the principles of Western reasoning, if only informally. The evidence used will
have a logical link to the reasons they support. Evidence itself will be a verifiable fact.
Furthermore, research based writing seeks a plausible (not conclusive) answer to a question of interest
to the readers. The overarching purpose for writing is to show why the reader should accept that
answer. This includes acknowledging and responding to possible alternative answers to the question.
Others ideas are used to find or support claims, reasons, or evidence but cannot to be presented as the
writer s own. Even though the writer may come to the same conclusion as others who have addressed
the issue before, he or she must present the answer and its supporting reasons as the product of an one
s own investigation, being careful to acknowledge when and how others contributions have been
utilized. The reader expects to see all this written in standard edited English with few (or no) errors in
spelling, grammar, or punctuation.
Often research based writing is a solitary exercise. For non academics and many librarians, research
based writing has been rarely practiced outside the classroom, and many of the processes may not be
familiar or practiced only informally. It requires a basic skill set that new students may have learned at

Figurative Language In Anne Bradstreet s To My Dear And...
Anne Bradstreet s poem, To My Dear and Loving Husband, is a small poem wherein she s revealing
her never ending love, devotion, and appreciation for her spouse. The fact that she was born around
the seventeenth century could mean it is puritan culture for women to remain reserved, regardless of
how they may truly feel; however, she makes it her obligation to make her husband aware of feelings,
whether positive or negative. She uses figurative language and declarative tone through imagery,
repetition, and paradoxes to send her message. To My Dear and Loving Husband can be interpreted in
many ways by many different people depending how it is initially read. This uncertainty allows the
poem to be interpreted on a surface level and on a deeper level.
One can sense the sincere meaning in poem on a literal level. A literal meaning of
Bradstreet s comes across when analyzed solely on the surface. It is initially assumed that she is
expressing her sincerest, undying love for husband. The poem opens with two if/then statements,
which sets up quite a logical tone. In the first line of her poem she states, If ever two were one, then
surely we (1). This line entertains the belief that she and her husband are one entity; what happens to
one, will happen to the other. Also, the speaker says that if two people were ever one person, then she
and her husband surely are. In the second, she says that if ever any man has been loved by his wife,
her husband has been. (2). As stated

Allegory and Truman Show
Allegory and Truman Show
The Allegory of the Cave has many parallels with The Truman Show. Initially, Truman is trapped in
his own cave ; a film set or fictional island known as Seahaven. Truman s journey or ascension into
the real world and into knowledge is similar to that of Plato s cave dweller. In this paper, I will discuss
these similarities along with the very intent of both of these works whose purpose is for us to question
our own reality.
In his Allegory Plato shows us how a man ascends from the darkness of a cave to the light of the
outside world. In this ascent Plato s man passes through four distinct stages of cognition: from
imagination, to belief, understanding, and finally knowledge.
Imagination
In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, his reality is now based on these objects vs. what is truly real. In Truman s second phase he
starts to believe that something is wrong with his world based also on his perception and his common
sense. First, his father Kirk who had been written out of the show years earlier sneaks back onto the
set. This sends Truman into a teenage flashback of his last moments with Lauren a girlfriend that had
tried to tell him the truth before she was written off to Fiji. He also notices that the radio is following
him around and people all around him are acting very strange. At this point he does not know what is
wrong but he knows he is onto something big as he tells his best friend Marlon.
Understanding
Some might disagree at precisely which point Truman sees the light and begins to understand what is
really happening. Like with Plato s cave dweller the process of understanding is a slow one. He will
require to grow accustomed to the sight of the upper world. And first he will see the shadows best,
next the reflections of men and other objects in the water, and then the objects themselves... In the
same way Truman s accent into understanding was a slow process. The scene where he notices that his
wife is crossing her fingers in one of their wedding pictures is that crucial moment. From that point on
we get the feeling that he has gone from assuming there was something wrong to

The Davis Trial-Accused of Murder by Abortion Essay example
The Queen vs. Davis case concerns the murder trial of Arthur Paul Davis and Alice Davis that
occurred in 1875. In it, they were tried and convicted of murder for conducting an abortion; the killing
of a fetus and subsequently causing death of the victims, Catherine Laing and Jane Vaughn Gilmour.
This essay will examine the historical context of the case, what the trial reveals about the nature of
women s lives in Toronto during the 1870s as subordinate women who are deemed as caretakers and
how women managed to end unwanted pregnancies. During the late 19th century ending an unwanted
pregnancy was an illegal offence because it was considered unethical to kill a fetus. Women were not

After her death George Laing s suspicions led him to believe that she did not die of Typhoid fever as
the man who buried her stated. Dr. Davis had hired Jacob Amour to build a coffin the size big enough
to fit a body, and told him that it was case of Typhoid and presented him with the death certificate. She
was put in a coffin and taken out of Toronto to Hamilton. Dr. Davis received the certificate of death
from Dr. Isaac Ryall by stating that it was the case of typhoid. No one knew at the time that Catherine
was pregnant or that she was had a family of her own. Suspicions grew about the cause of death as the
body did not seem like a case of typhoid when examined; instead seemed like an induced abortion by
means of violence. It was clearly noted during the investigation and newspaper reports by the Globe
and Mail that Dr. Davis was not a licensed doctor. Investigations took place because witnesses saw a
box on the side of the ditch and later discovered that it had a body of a young woman. Constables
were informed and coroners began an inquest. The next body discovered along a ditch was of Jane
Vaughn Gilmour. Gilmour was a single woman who had emigrated from Scotland with her family, and
was living in Canada for 3 years. She lived with a middle class family, the Clements and worked as
their servant. It was suspected that she was seduced and impregnated

Thornton Research Paper
An increase in the production of domestic magazines, primarily aimed at women, coincided with the
stricter expectations of female behaviour. The Lady s Magazine, in which the exposé of Thornton
appeared, was the first to survive any length of time. It was issued monthly and contained news but
largely consisted of poetry, sheet music and stories. Its cost made it largely an upper class magazine,
as it was the equivalent of a full day s pay of a skilled artisan. Lower class literature too experienced a
large growth in production. Street literature, including broadsides and ballads, had long been popular
since the sixteenth century and by the early nineteenth were sold in the thousands on every city street
corner. Both had firm backgrounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the early nineteenth century, newspapers were an integral part of daily life for both men and
women. Both sexes would have read about Thornton s story in the newspaper. While it is clear that
women read newspapers, the size of the female readership remains extremely unclear . It was this
female readership that the articulators of separate spheres ideology were concerned with reaching. The
basic premise of the separate spheres was that the public sphere of political life and employment was
naturally the space of men and the domestic sphere of the home was the realm of women. The
conscious articulation of this idea in the media of the nineteenth century was the product of fears of
societal instability, of which the breakdown of familial and sexual order became a striking metaphor .
Domestic magazines and newspapers worked to create and proliferate a baseline of acceptable
behaviour for women and offered definitions of what would be tolerated. The attempts in the print
media to reflect the model behaviour for the sexes is apparent the representations and phrasing of
Thornton s appearances, as seen in Chapter

Authoritarianism In The Cold War
The end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union resulted in major shift in United
States foreign policy. For years, the United States supported tyrannical dictators in return for stable
anti communist government receptive to United States interests. The Cold War resulted in a new world
order with the United States as the lone global hegemonic power. In Eastern Europe in particular, the
end of the Cold War ushered in an era of economic growth and a large increase in the number of
liberal democracies. Although the world saw a large increase in liberal democracies, a new regime
type referred to as competitive authoritarianism began to emerge. According to Levitsky and Way, In
competitive authoritarian regimes, formal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these systems, the regimes possess some of these characteristics but have found ways to manipulate
the system to consolidate their power. Rather than openly violating democratic rules (for example, by
banning or repressing the opposition and the media), incumbents are more likely to use bribery, co
optation, and more subtle forms of persecution, such as the use of tax authorities, compliant
judiciaries, and other state agencies to legally harass, persecute, or extort cooperative behavior from
critics . While it is apparent that these regimes are not fully democratic, it would be unfair to label
them as fully authoritarian either. Unlike traditional totalitarian governments, the persistence of true
democratic institutions in competitive authoritarian regimes allows the opposition to contest, weaken
and occasionally even defeat autocratic incumbents. While these situations are generally uncommon,
these situations are possible in competitive authoritarianism due to four independent means, the
electoral arena, the legislature, the judiciary and the media. These four branches are virtually
independent of the executive control however, unlike in democracies, the competitive authoritarian
regimes use its power to undermine their independence. In regards to the electoral arena, large scale
abuses of state power, biased media coverage, harassment of opposition candidates and activists are
widespread, legislatures tend to be relatively weak, the

Rhetoric Theories And Their Impact On The Pre Modern...
The History of Rhetoric Theories and Their Impact on the Pre modern Discourse Rhetoric is the art of
discourse that is aimed at improving the speakers or writers ability to motivate, persuade and inform
audience in specific situations. Rhetoric has played a central role in European tradition as a subject of
productive civil practice and formal study. Rhetoric provides heuristics for developing, discovering
and understanding arguments for particular situations. The five canons of rhetoric which were first
coded in classical Rome help a speaker to design a persuasive speech. The five canons of rhetoric are
delivery, memory, style, arrangement and invention (Blake, 2009). Alongside dialectic and grammar,
rhetoric is one of the ancient arts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Greek rhetoric was extended by certain Romanian rhetoricians such as Quintilian and Cicero.
Although the ancient classical rhetoric theory was basically concerned with oratory and to improve
public speech, it was also meant to influence writing instructions. During the roman time for example,
a process of composing a speech had evolved. The stages that were involved included discovering or
inventing, organizing or arranging the ideas and putting them into words that enticed the public or
audience. Of the ancient rhetoric, Aristotle is recognized for making a great contribution to the
rhetorical theories which have formed the basis of today s communication. Aristotle due to his
contribution became known as the Father of Speech Communication (Sloane, 2001). In his rhetoric,
Aristotle addressed the role of audience, speaker and the speech itself within the three pillars; logos,
pathos and ethos. In ethos, Aristotle shows that before delivering the message, the audience must first
accept the speaker s credibility and worthiness of delivering that message. In pathos, the message must
have the quality of persuasion that attracts the audience s emotions. This means that the speaker s
message should evoke the feelings of love, compassion, sympathy or fear. In logos, Aristotle shows
that the message should make sense and should be based on facts, evidence or statistics. Classical
rhetoric divides oratories

Rembrandt s Samson Tells a Riddle at His Feast
The distinguished painting, Samson Tells a Riddle at his Feast, by artist Rembrandt Harmensz van
Rijn, interprets the knowledgeable scene of a biblical figure, Samson, and his wife at their wedding
feast. Judges 14 of the Bible details the background story of the painting how Samson met a Philistine
woman and chose her as his wife. Before he can take his new bride s hand in marriage, Samson is
withheld by a dangerous lion. Samson, however, is determined to join his lady and slays the beast.
Oddly, Samson finds a swarm of bees surrounding a honeycomb inside the lion s carcass. From this
discovery, Samson formulates a riddle, which he tells to all of the guests at the feast of his wedding.
The riddle goes like this: Out of the eater came ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His choice to withhold this information from her is correct in judgment, however, because she will in
fact spread the answer to the riddle eventually in the future. Samson s position in the painting is facing
away from his wife and leaning suspensefully out of his seat. This may be a hint that Samson will
soon leave his wife later in the story.
Another evidentiary observation about Samson s wife is that she clearly feels that she doesn t belong,
even at her own dinner party! Everything in her appearance is completely different from the others in
the painting. Not only is she sitting in solitude, but she is the only character in the painting whose gaze
is toward the viewer. It s as if the viewers of the painting are the only ones who will pay her any sort
of attention. Her posture is similar to the way one would take a portrait. In fact, Samson Tells a Riddle
at his Feast could be viewed as a lonely portrait of a single woman, despite the busy crowd of people
among her.
How ironic that Rembrandt has focused this entire painting around making Samson s wife the center
of the painting, especially when she remains nameless and does not even appear in the painting s title,
Samson Tells a Riddle at his Feast. This face could also hint that Rembrandt himself is ignoring
Samson s wife, by forgetting her in the title. Samson, after all, is not primarily featured in this
painting.
Another connection and element of clarity is introduced once Rembrandt s

Tornado Essay
A tornado is defined as a violently rotating column extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. The
most violent tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction with wind speeds of two hundred and
fifty miles per hour or more. Damage paths can be more than one mile wide and fifty miles long. In an
average year, eight hundred tornadoes are reported nationwide, resulting in eighty deaths and over one
thousand five hundred injuries. In the body of my essay, I will tell you about types of tornadoes, where
tornadoes come from, where and when tornadoes occur, the damage they inflict, variations of

Tornadoes can also occur in many other areas of the world as well. They have been recorded in
Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America as well as in North America. They occur mostly
during the spring and summer; however, the tornado season comes early in the south and later in the
north because spring comes later in the year as one moves northward. They usually occur during the
late afternoon and early evening. However, they have been know to occur in every state in the United
States, on any day of the year, and at any hour.
The damage from tornadoes comes from the strong winds they contain. It is generally believed that
tornado wind speeds can be as high as three hundred miles per hour in most violent tornadoes. Wind
speeds that high can cause automobiles to become airborne, rip ordinary homes to shreds, and turn
broken glass and other debris into lethal missiles. The biggest threat to living creatures, including
humans, from tornadoes is from flying debris and from being tossed about in the wind. It used to be
believed that the low pressure in a tornado contributed to the damage by making buildings explode but
this is no longer believed to be true.
Some variations of tornadoes are that they can be found in the early stages of rapidly developing
thunderstorms. This type of tornado is most common along the range of the Rocky Mountains, the
Plains, and the

Differences Between Willy Loman And Famil Ath Of A Salesman
When it comes to the idea of the American dream, almost anyone would say that it is defined as a
chance, a possibility, a potential. Existing as an opportunity, in order to achieve an important goal and
live a successful life, the American dream acts as a guideline for our own choices and pathway of life
that we choose to follow. Yet, all people still have a personal definition of what success means to
them. Success can be perceived to mean achievements in a career, fame in society, quality in work,
essentially anything that showcases a sense of accomplishment and importance, no matter its different
meaning to other people. These differences are what often separate individuals in their pursuit of the
American dream while affecting the people, friends and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Willy Loman and Troy Maxson have their own belief of what defines the American dream, but
whenever they attempt to instill the same beliefs in their sons, they introduce and repeatedly worsen
the problems of the already strained relationships between family members. The parents mean well
and are attempting to positively impact the lives of their sons, yet each s idea produces similar
conflicts of each relationship that instead elicit more challenges in shaping the lives of their children
to their own liking.
From the beginning pages of Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, the reader is easily able to
understand the personal view from a salesman, Willy Loman, that the most important methods of
achieving American dream lie in one s successes in the economic life and social life. In the opening
discussion that Willy had with his wife, Linda, he talks about his son, Biff, and how Willy does not
believe that Biff was trying to achieve the American dream. Criticizing Biff, he exclaims to Linda,

Mosquitoes In Ww1
Over seventy years ago the world was tossed into a war that touched every corner of the globe. The
war would take the lives of over sixty million people from it s start in 1939 to it s end in 1945. Over
those six years each side would develop new technologies to kill and destroy the enemy. However, the
Allies biggest advantage would be their advancements in medicine that allowed more men to return to
the front. The main instrument of war has always been the weapons used in it, and in the case of world
war two both the Allies and the Axis were armed to the teeth with firearms of all types. However, at
the beginning of the war the weapons used were weapons from a bygone era particularly from the
previous war, world war one. For example on the side of the Allies, the standard issue rifle for
Americans was the M1903 Springfield rifle developed in 1903.The British were armed with the Lee

The most well known and documented disease comes the mosquitoes that lived in the Pacific. These
mosquitoes though tiny and irritating were thought to harmless by soldiers encountering them on a

Women in Violent Relationships
Throughout the years, there have been immense efforts to expand knowledge about the experiences
women have endured in violent relationships. The emergence of internal, external risk factors,
correlates, and causes of intimate partner violence has increased rapidly in recent decades. Although
there has been a rise in many supportive groups, there are still various barriers that exist and prohibit
women from seeking help to detach themselves from a violent relationship. In reading Roz story, I
have learned of the many barriers to understand, why couldn t she just leave? Although this question
may have no straight answer and may even have hindered implications, I feel that patriarchy plays a
role in this intimate partner violence. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

felt she needed to protect them from his violent way. Deep in her heart she felt that there would be one
day when he could change, because she could see the good in him. Brian would use his charm on her,
profess his immense love for her and she would again forgive him and stay in the relationship. It is
obvious that Roz was brainwashed in believing Brian loved her in spite of his controlling and violent
ways.
Brian seemed to have total control of Roz. Brian seemed to have his own personal issues with dealing
with the loss of his wife, taking care of four children by himself, and although the book does not

her time of illness and his accusations of mistrust were just as heartbreaking for Roz. The series of

Lowery both see men trying to use methods of persuasion to get what they want. How successful are
they?
I have recently studied To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, written in the 17th Century and Our
Love Now by Martyn Lowery, written in the 19th century. Attitudes to love have changed a lot since
the 17th Century. When To His Coy Mistress was written, men were in charge of the relationship. It
would take a lot longer for this relationship to progress than it would today. The man would court the
woman for months before anything progressed. He would write her letters and poems, and then
eventually, if he loved her, he would ask her to marry him. They ... Show more content on

In this poem it seems like she has the final word. It is a modern poem about love.
Marvell uses different methods of persuasions. He bombards her as the poem is very long and has no
stanzas, so she has to keep reading and listening to his arguments. He has also divided the poem into
three sections. The first section is about him romancing and flattering her.
He shows his love for her by using time, place and exaggeration. Had we but world enough, and time /

Marvell using place and distance to persuade her. He tells her that she could sit by the Indian Ganges,
and he would sit by the Humber in England and wish for her. He then goes on to say, that if she
wishes; she can keep him at arms length, and that his feelings will wait until she is ready. This makes
her feel that he is not pressuring her in to anything she does not want to do. Marvell uses a lot of
exaggeration, for example I would / Love you ten years before the flood.. He is referring to the bible,
making him seem religious and that he supports the religious beliefs of sex after marriage,

Philip II And Peter The Great Of Russia

Philip II and Peter the Great Philip II of Spain (1527 1598) and Peter the Great of Russia (1672 1725)
are both historic leaders that had a tremendous influence over the fate of each of their nations.
Although from two different time periods, the impact of their decision making, and temperaments

during a time where the desire for power and absolutism in one s country and throughout Europe was

In addition to suppressing their revolts, Peter successfully undermined the lifestyle of the boyars,
without losing their commitment to the state. He accomplished this with his establishment of the Table
of Ranks, which designated the boyars specific roles in either the bureaucracy or military, making
them workers of the state. These necessary steps allowed Russia to build a new, strong military force,
and a powerful centralized government. With increasing military strength, Peter the Great initiated the
organization of his new navy. A strong navy, which Russia previously lacked, was essential to the
state, due to the absence of warm water ports. While water does surround Russia, it is frozen over for
the majority of the year, which made trade relatively impossible at the time. Therefore, capturing other
warm water ports was a necessary step to increase Russian power. This necessity led to conflicts with
both the Ottoman Empire, and the Swedish, who blocked Russia from the ports they desired. The
strong navy that Peter developed, known as the Baltic fleet, had early successes in capturing Ottoman
ports such as Azov; however, its main target was the Swedish who controlled Baltic Sea. The Swedish
King at the time Charles XII, fought against Peter in the Great Northern War for these ports. In the
battle of Poltava, Peter s well trained fleet successfully crushed the Swedish; and the Russian

A piece of dramatic irony that we are given is that we know Fortunato is going to be killed,
unfortunately Fortunato does not know this. Fortunato s name is even ironic. Fortunato means the
fortunate one in Italian. (Campbell) In the story it is clear he wasn t so fortunate. Fortunato adds to the
irony of his name by wearing the costume of a court jester. While Fortunato plays in jest, Montresor
sets out to fool him, with murderous results. The bells on Fortunato s jester costume plays with the
irony of the story. Roger Platizky writes, To a significant degree, Poe s fear of live burial had a
cultural counterpart. Kennedy and others have shown that premature burial was a preoccupation in
eighteenth and nineteenth century America and Europe largely because death was more often in the
hands of the medical community and funerals had become secularized.(n2) In an attempt to keep
living entombments from occurring, coffins and vaults especially for the wealthier classes were
equipped with special springs and sounding devices to give the person mistakenly buried alive a
chance to be rescued (Crichton 326 28). One of the most pragmatic of these devices, which involved
the placing of bells on the limbs of the recently dead, was exhibited at Brooklyn s Greenwood
Cemetery in 1845, just a year before Poe published his short story. Mr. Eisenbrandt s life preserving

Mexican American And Mexican Americans Essay
Introduction
One of the largest Hispanic origin population in the United states are Mexicans (Gonzales Barrera
Lopez, 2013). Mexican American s are considered minorities in the United States. There are many
reason why I am choosing to explore Mexican Americans for this paper. As a minority myself, I can
relate to some of the struggles that Mexican American s may face. However, there are some things that
I will never relate to or know the personal aspect of the Mexican culture. Just like any other
population, Mexican Americans have their own culture, values, and challenges.
Strengths
Mexican Americans find their strength through their culture, family, relationships and networks.
Mexican Americans have strengths with their extended family. Mexican American families frequently
function within extended family networks that include godparents and members of other families
(Miley, M., L., 2013). There is more advantage when you have more network with extended family
and other families. It essentially means a larger support system. One of the major strengths of
Mexican American families is a quantitative rather than a qualitative difference from other ethnic
groups (Miley, M., L., 2013). Some people may not realize that Mexican Americans tend to stick
together and support each other because it is a part of their cultural background. Just like religion is a
part of Mexican American s cultural background as well. Most of the time Mexican American s share
similar spiritual

Talk Shows on Television
Television is one of the greatest inventions to ever be created, right? Lucian Dorneanu, an editor of

doing more harm than good. Television is supposed to be bringing entertainment and laughter to every

Cutting on such frills may help in improving the bottom line. But cuts on frills accompanied by thrust
on factors where company s offering is below the customers expectations provides an excellent

from outside the current market space, just on the boundary of niche segments. Most popular no frills
strategy is pursued by Southwest Airlines which based its strategy on clear understanding of the

The Blackfish Phase has come into play in today s Zoos and aquariums. Sounds pretty inexplicable
right? If truth be told, it s not very convoluted whatsoever. It associates with the king or regal of all

today s prominent zoos such as SeaWorld, but that s not the only dilemma that has ensued. Excuding
killer whales in zoos ,doing to their behavior, has prompted other zoos to supervene this situation and
are considering abstracting not just killer whales, but any animal that appears to create only
insufficient danger to the tourist at their zoos and also the animal trainers there as well. The deal is that

Cultural Value And Cultural Values Essay
Executive Summary Each person is different from one another and so as his culture. Culture differs
for each region in a country and each country in a continent. To understand each other, each one
should understand his own culture first then accept the reality that another person s culture might
slightly or be extremely different from his own. Cultures are very unique and require a lot of
understanding and comprehension. To do this, different cultural value dimensions should be studied
and applied to a culture. Applying this to the business environment will be more complicated
especially in a multinational company. To be a successful leader or manager in a company, one must
fully understand each member of his team as well know his team s cultural background. Cultural value
continuums would be helpful in considering which management style might work best for a team.
After which, changes of collaboration and cooperation among members of the team should cross
cultural boundaries and should make the team work together harmoniously. Table of Contents 1.

Following the Nicene Council, the debate continued, including
discussions about the Holy Spirit. Eventually, Theodosius (the new Roman emperor), called a
second council, which was held in Constantinople. The council affirmed the view of the earlier
Nicene Council that Jesus is fully divine, eternal, not created. Moreover, the council accepted the
full divinity of the Holy Spirit, teaching that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy
Spirit is God, yet there is only one God. The Nicene Creed (as translated by the International
Consultation on English Texts, 1975) reads as follows:
We believe in our God the Father, the Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and of all that is, seen
and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from
God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made of one being with the Father.

  • 5. Covert Monitoring Of Private Communications Shortly after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the US Patriot Act granted was enacted granting wide legal authority to the intelligence community as a defensive measure against future terrorist attacks. Among those new powers, included in Article 215, is the right to obtain business records, while imposing a gag order on the party holding those records. This law remains the foundation upon which the current NSA phone metadata collection campaign is operated. In October 2001, President Bush ordered the National Security Agency to commence covert monitoring of private communications through the nation s telephone companies without the requisite FISA warrants. The agency began surveilling the Internet for emails, financial data, and voice messaging on belief that such metadata was not constitutionally protected. In effect, by penetrating the Internet for text and the parallel Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) for voice, the NSA had gained access to much of the world s telecommunications. At the end of Bush s term in 2008, Congress had enacted laws that not only retrospectively legalized these programs, but also prepared the way for NSA surveillance to grow unchecked. It is not creative writing, although creative writers will often research some aspect of their subject. It is not journalistic writing, although the journalist makes steady use of sources. The author s reasoning will follow the principles of Western reasoning, if only informally. The evidence used will have a logical link to the reasons they support. Evidence itself will be a verifiable fact. Furthermore, research based writing seeks a plausible (not conclusive) answer to a question of interest to the readers. The overarching purpose for writing is to show why the reader should accept that answer. This includes acknowledging and responding to possible alternative answers to the question. Others ideas are used to find or support claims, reasons, or evidence but cannot to be presented as the writer s own. Even though the writer may come to the same conclusion as others who have addressed the issue before, he or she must present the answer and its supporting reasons as the product of an one s own investigation, being careful to acknowledge when and how others contributions have been utilized. The reader expects to see all this written in standard edited English with few (or no) errors in spelling, grammar, or punctuation. Often research based writing is a solitary exercise. • 7. Figurative Language In Anne Bradstreet s To My Dear And... Anne Bradstreet s poem, To My Dear and Loving Husband, is a small poem wherein she s revealing her never ending love, devotion, and appreciation for her spouse. The fact that she was born around the seventeenth century could mean it is puritan culture for women to remain reserved, regardless of how they may truly feel; however, she makes it her obligation to make her husband aware of feelings, whether positive or negative. She uses figurative language and declarative tone through imagery, repetition, and paradoxes to send her message. To My Dear and Loving Husband can be interpreted in many ways by many different people depending how it is initially read. This uncertainty allows the poem to be interpreted on a surface level and on a deeper level. One can sense the sincere meaning in poem on a literal level. A literal meaning of Bradstreet s comes across when analyzed solely on the surface. It is initially assumed that she is expressing her sincerest, undying love for husband. The poem opens with two if/then statements, which sets up quite a logical tone. In the first line of her poem she states, If ever two were one, then surely we (1). This line entertains the belief that she and her husband are one entity; what happens to one, will happen to the other. Also, the speaker says that if two people were ever one person, then she and her husband surely are. In the second, she says that if ever any man has been loved by his wife, her husband has been. • 8. Allegory and Truman Show Allegory and Truman Show The Allegory of the Cave has many parallels with The Truman Show. Initially, Truman is trapped in his own cave ; a film set or fictional island known as Seahaven. Truman s journey or ascension into the real world and into knowledge is similar to that of Plato s cave dweller. In this paper, I will discuss these similarities along with the very intent of both of these works whose purpose is for us to question our own reality. In his Allegory Plato shows us how a man ascends from the darkness of a cave to the light of the outside world. In this ascent Plato s man passes through four distinct stages of cognition: from imagination, to belief, understanding, and finally knowledge. Imagination In this ... In Truman s second phase he starts to believe that something is wrong with his world based also on his perception and his common sense. First, his father Kirk who had been written out of the show years earlier sneaks back onto the set. This sends Truman into a teenage flashback of his last moments with Lauren a girlfriend that had tried to tell him the truth before she was written off to Fiji. He also notices that the radio is following him around and people all around him are acting very strange. At this point he does not know what is wrong but he knows he is onto something big as he tells his best friend Marlon. Understanding Some might disagree at precisely which point Truman sees the light and begins to understand what is really happening. Like with Plato s cave dweller the process of understanding is a slow one. He will require to grow accustomed to the sight of the upper world. And first he will see the shadows best, next the reflections of men and other objects in the water, and then the objects themselves... In the same way Truman s accent into understanding was a slow process. The scene where he notices that his wife is crossing her fingers in one of their wedding pictures is that crucial moment. In it, they were tried and convicted of murder for conducting an abortion; the killing of a fetus and subsequently causing death of the victims, Catherine Laing and Jane Vaughn Gilmour. This essay will examine the historical context of the case, what the trial reveals about the nature of women s lives in Toronto during the 1870s as subordinate women who are deemed as caretakers and how women managed to end unwanted pregnancies. During the late 19th century ending an unwanted pregnancy was an illegal offence because it was considered unethical to kill a fetus. Women were not able to access safer alternatives such as ... Dr. Davis had hired Jacob Amour to build a coffin the size big enough to fit a body, and told him that it was case of Typhoid and presented him with the death certificate. She was put in a coffin and taken out of Toronto to Hamilton. Dr. Davis received the certificate of death from Dr. Isaac Ryall by stating that it was the case of typhoid. No one knew at the time that Catherine was pregnant or that she was had a family of her own. Suspicions grew about the cause of death as the body did not seem like a case of typhoid when examined; instead seemed like an induced abortion by means of violence. It was clearly noted during the investigation and newspaper reports by the Globe and Mail that Dr. Davis was not a licensed doctor. Investigations took place because witnesses saw a box on the side of the ditch and later discovered that it had a body of a young woman. Constables were informed and coroners began an inquest. The next body discovered along a ditch was of Jane Vaughn Gilmour. Gilmour was a single woman who had emigrated from Scotland with her family, and was living in Canada for 3 years. The basic premise of the separate spheres was that the public sphere of political life and employment was naturally the space of men and the domestic sphere of the home was the realm of women. The conscious articulation of this idea in the media of the nineteenth century was the product of fears of societal instability, of which the breakdown of familial and sexual order became a striking metaphor . Domestic magazines and newspapers worked to create and proliferate a baseline of acceptable behaviour for women and offered definitions of what would be tolerated. Rather than openly violating democratic rules (for example, by banning or repressing the opposition and the media), incumbents are more likely to use bribery, co optation, and more subtle forms of persecution, such as the use of tax authorities, compliant judiciaries, and other state agencies to legally harass, persecute, or extort cooperative behavior from critics . While it is apparent that these regimes are not fully democratic, it would be unfair to label them as fully authoritarian either. Unlike traditional totalitarian governments, the persistence of true democratic institutions in competitive authoritarian regimes allows the opposition to contest, weaken and occasionally even defeat autocratic incumbents. While these situations are generally uncommon, these situations are possible in competitive authoritarianism due to four independent means, the electoral arena, the legislature, the judiciary and the media. Rhetoric provides heuristics for developing, discovering and understanding arguments for particular situations. The stages that were involved included discovering or inventing, organizing or arranging the ideas and putting them into words that enticed the public or audience. Of the ancient rhetoric, Aristotle is recognized for making a great contribution to the rhetorical theories which have formed the basis of today s communication. Aristotle due to his contribution became known as the Father of Speech Communication (Sloane, 2001). In his rhetoric, Aristotle addressed the role of audience, speaker and the speech itself within the three pillars; logos, pathos and ethos. In ethos, Aristotle shows that before delivering the message, the audience must first accept the speaker s credibility and worthiness of delivering that message. In pathos, the message must have the quality of persuasion that attracts the audience s emotions. Another evidentiary observation about Samson s wife is that she clearly feels that she doesn t belong, even at her own dinner party! Everything in her appearance is completely different from the others in the painting. Not only is she sitting in solitude, but she is the only character in the painting whose gaze is toward the viewer. In fact, Samson Tells a Riddle at his Feast could be viewed as a lonely portrait of a single woman, despite the busy crowd of people among her. How ironic that Rembrandt has focused this entire painting around making Samson s wife the center of the painting, especially when she remains nameless and does not even appear in the painting s title, Samson Tells a Riddle at his Feast. Hey, I have an extra cut of meat in the house that I was going to cook for Emily. I d figured I give it to Rocky here since she s not going to be around to have dinner with me. She had called earlier saying that she had already had dinner with a co worker and he had already provided her with a lot of meat to eat. So, what do ya say, how about it then? What...? As soon as Adam had gotten up from his crouched down position next to Rocky, Rick swung the shovel he was now holding, striking Adam across his face and sending a good portion of his teeth flying from his mouth. Adam spun around violently from the blow landing directly atop of the charcoal Bar B Que that was still cooking Rick s steak, sending it and himself toppling over to the ground, the grill s hot contents spilling out. As Adam lay upon the scorching coals, Rick slammed the shovel into the back of his head and neck repeatedly over and over until he was sure Adam was unconscious and paralyzed. Then, as Rick walked away, he couldn t help but think to himself, umm... Adam smells better cooking than my steak did. Darkness quickly consumed the evening, and the streets filled themselves with scores of kids eager to fill their bags and stomachs with candy. It wasn t long before a crowd had gathered around Rick s house in marvel of the display he had created. From nearby, Rick listened in on the people as they ooh and ahhed over his sculpture. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to suppressing their revolts, Peter successfully undermined the lifestyle of the boyars, without losing their commitment to the state. He accomplished this with his establishment of the Table of Ranks, which designated the boyars specific roles in either the bureaucracy or military, making them workers of the state. These necessary steps allowed Russia to build a new, strong military force, and a powerful centralized government. With increasing military strength, Peter the Great initiated the organization of his new navy. A strong navy, which Russia previously lacked, was essential to the state, due to the absence of warm water ports. While water does surround Russia, it is frozen over for the majority of the year, which made trade relatively impossible at the time. Therefore, capturing other warm water ports was a necessary step to increase Russian power. This necessity led to conflicts with both the Ottoman Empire, and the Swedish, who blocked Russia from the ports they desired. The strong navy that Peter developed, known as the Baltic fleet, had early successes in capturing Ottoman ports such as Azov; however, its main target was the Swedish who controlled Baltic Sea. The Swedish King at the time Charles XII, fought against Peter in the Great Northern War for these ports. Amontillado Montresor Revenge In the small hours of a cold December night, in 1916, Rasputin was driven to the palace of the Czar s cousin Prince Yusupov; for what he thought was a secret tryst with a beautiful woman. Together, the Prince and Rasputin descended the steps to the basement of the palace. It had been specially converted into a small dining room, a private place to attempt to murder. While the Prince s co conspirators waited upstairs, Yusupov passed a plate of rich sweet cream cakes to Rasputin. Each cake held enough cyanide to kill a man. To guarantee success, the wine was also laced with cyanide. The plan seemed foolproof. Though Rasputin ate the cream cakes and became rather drunk from the wine, the poison seems to have no effect. A piece of dramatic irony that we are given is that we know Fortunato is going to be killed, unfortunately Fortunato does not know this. Fortunato s name is even ironic. Fortunato means the fortunate one in Italian. (Campbell) In the story it is clear he wasn t so fortunate. Fortunato adds to the irony of his name by wearing the costume of a court jester. While Fortunato plays in jest, Montresor sets out to fool him, with murderous results. The bells on Fortunato s jester costume plays with the irony of the story. Roger Platizky writes, To a significant degree, Poe s fear of live burial had a cultural counterpart. Kennedy and others have shown that premature burial was a preoccupation in eighteenth and nineteenth century America and Europe largely because death was more often in the hands of the medical community and funerals had become secularized.(n2) In an attempt to keep living entombments from occurring, coffins and vaults especially for the wealthier classes were equipped with special springs and sounding devices to give the person mistakenly buried alive a chance to be rescued (Crichton 326 28). One of the most pragmatic of these devices, which involved the placing of bells on the limbs of the recently dead, was exhibited at Brooklyn s Greenwood Cemetery in 1845, just a year before Poe published his short story. • 32. Mexican American And Mexican Americans Essay Introduction One of the largest Hispanic origin population in the United states are Mexicans (Gonzales Barrera Lopez, 2013). Mexican American s are considered minorities in the United States. There are many reason why I am choosing to explore Mexican Americans for this paper. As a minority myself, I can relate to some of the struggles that Mexican American s may face. However, there are some things that I will never relate to or know the personal aspect of the Mexican culture. Just like any other population, Mexican Americans have their own culture, values, and challenges. Strengths Mexican Americans find their strength through their culture, family, relationships and networks. Mexican Americans have strengths with their extended family. Mexican American families frequently function within extended family networks that include godparents and members of other families (Miley, M., L., 2013). There is more advantage when you have more network with extended family and other families. It essentially means a larger support system. One of the major strengths of Mexican American families is a quantitative rather than a qualitative difference from other ethnic groups (Miley, M., L., 2013). • 36. Cultural Value And Cultural Values Essay Executive Summary Each person is different from one another and so as his culture. Culture differs for each region in a country and each country in a continent. To understand each other, each one should understand his own culture first then accept the reality that another person s culture might slightly or be extremely different from his own. Cultures are very unique and require a lot of understanding and comprehension. To do this, different cultural value dimensions should be studied and applied to a culture. Applying this to the business environment will be more complicated especially in a multinational company. To be a successful leader or manager in a company, one must fully understand each member of his team as well know his team s cultural background. Cultural value continuums would be helpful in considering which management style might work best for a team. After which, changes of collaboration and cooperation among members of the team should cross cultural boundaries and should make the team work together harmoniously. Table of Contents 1.
