Balanced scorecard is a methodological tool that businesses use to get a measure by which someone
can determine whether the set goals have been met or exceeded. It adds non financial metrics to
traditional financial metrics to give a well rounded view of the performance in an organization.
Balanced scorecards also help organizations to predict their success in meeting their overall strategic
goals. | Question 2. 2. (TCO G) Explain the concept of the cost of quality model and then link your

Thus, we went over two main issues caused by inappropriate personality test: time and money. They
are also two key elements for an organization. Let s go deeper to understand why these two points can
decrease the efficiency of an organization. Time is very important for an organization (most of the
time concerning companies), the quicker, the better. Indeed, the influence of time on companies is due
in order to satisfy customers. This means to have the best employee as possible, and the first step is
obviously the recruitment with a personality test. Of course it takes time to do a test when we recruit
someone. However, we should see this on the long term and not short term because the benefit is
really huge. Moreover, employers or managers usually forget that employees are the basement of an
organization, and the stronger, the better, which means having the correct employee with the correct
skills and abilities for the job specifications. Job specification is the Statement of the needed
knowledge, skills, and abilities of the person who is to perform the position. The different duties and
responsibilities performed by only one employee . Money is fundamental for an organization, and this

Aging Population Issues Paper
I believe the most pressing issue facing the aging population on a daily basis is financial security
while living on a fixed income. Aging individuals sources of income include Social Security,
employment, private pensions, and assets. The median household income for those 65 and older in
2007 was only $27, 798 (Hooyman Kiyak, 2011). I chose financial security as the most pressing issue
facing the older population because it influences several other areas. Sources of income for the aging
population are sometimes insufficient to maintain proper housing, may cause health problems, and
restricts access to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The difficulty that the lack of financial
security can pose for an aging individual leads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A variety of long term care options are available to those who require more assistance. Assisted living
facilities, village concepts, and Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) are all available
options for seniors. Living in these residencies may address several other issues such as isolation,
transportation, and mobility. These types of facilities focus on providing assistance with daily living
activities for the elderly while still allowing them to be independent. Residents also have ample
opportunities to socialize in common spaces such as dining rooms and living rooms. However, these
facilities are often expensive and must be paid for privately. As a result, the option for living in these
helping facilities may be out of reach for the elderly with a fixed income (Hash, Jurkowski, Krout,
2015). Without these residential facilities as an option, aging adults with lower incomes who must
remain in their homes may face challenges related to their health, mobility, and

Changing American Culture
I remember looking at the pictures of me when I was just a little baby in South Korea. One of my
favorite picture was the one with a beer box on top of my head with a bag of Doritos by myside. I
started out my life with the culture of a Korean, but being adopted from my white parents and living in
American has changed my culture dramatically. Since the age of one, I have experienced and lived the
American culture. I adapted to the things that would seem different from the Korean culture. Growing
up I never took a notice to the fact I had white parents or that they didn t look the same as me. I Just

It doesn t matter if you are younger or older, different gender, class, etc. There is always common
ground when communicating with others. In my personal experiences, I have found it difficult at times
to figure out and understand the way their culture can directly affect my culture. Going back to when I
was in high school, I had a lot of friends that had different cultural backgrounds. I felt privileged
growing up in a nice neighborhood compared to some of my friends that didn t have that opportunity.
Growing up my parents always wanted me to get good grades so that I could get into a good school
and be successful. One of the biggest privileges I have noticed was that I haven t had to pay for
college. My parents saved since I was a child to have enough money for me to go to college. When

Obama s Plan And How It Would Evolve Over The Next Five...
Looking into Clinton s plan and how it would evolve over the next five years, the themes of access
and affordability shine through. She believes that all students should be able to obtain a public post
secondary education (Clinton on the Issues: College, 2016). The current truth is that access and
success in higher education continue to be stratified according to income... (Eckel King, 2004). With
Clinton s plan access would increase, and with that enrollment would increase. Increased enrollment
at college campuses strikes as an initially positive thought; more students can gain and education and
contribute that education to bettering society. However, increase enrollment could lead to increase
selectivity, if enrollment increased in extreme enough amounts. State schools, that were founded to
offer quality education would now have a larger pool of student to pick from. For the state school s
fortunate enough to the capacity to educate more student s their success would continue to increase.
But what about the state schools that are already struggling with enrollment issues? Will they continue
to live out their mission and increase enrollment at the expense of the student s education quality. For
campuses that are already filled with students, larger incoming classes would lead to less enrollment
options, larger classroom sizes, and the same campus resources spread thinner across a larger student
body. Schools in this category would be forced to decide between decreasing

Data Management And Information Systems
Introduction
With 3.2 billion internet users [1] and 6.4 billion internet connected devices by 2016 [2],
unprecedented amount of data is being generated and process daily and increasing every year. The
advent of web 2.0 has fueled the growth and creation of new and more complex types of data which
creates a natural demand to analyze new data sources in order to gain knowledge. This new data
volume and complexity of the data is being called Big Data, famously characterised by Volume,
Variety and Velocity; has created data management and processing challenges due to technological
limitations, efficiency or cost to store and process in a timely fashion. The large volume and complex
data is unable to be handled and/or processed by most current information systems in a timely manner
and the traditional data mining and analytics methods developed for a centralized data systems may
not be practical for big data.
The paper provides background and related literature on the Big Data, studies the concept from
Relational Database to current NoSQL database which have been fueled by the growth Big Data and
importance of managing it. And surveys the Big Data challenges from the perspective of its
characteristics Volume, Variety and Velocity and attempts to study how those challenges can be
addressed.
This is where NoSQL systems have been created to solve the data management challenges posed by
Big Data. NoSQL is not a single system that can solve every single Big Data problem

Examples Of Literary Devices In The Black Cat
Literary Devices Essay
Have you ever wanted to pick apart a piece of writing the way one might pick off the toppings of a
pizza? I see literary devices as the toppings and the dough is the good writing. Literary devices refer to
the typical structures used by writers in their works to convey his or her message in a simple manner
to his or her readers. When employed properly, the different literary devices help readers to appreciate,
interpret and analyze a literary work. , and by developing a strong understanding of what they are and
how they function, one can increase their enjoyment of the writing.
Connotation refers to a meaning that is implied by a word apart from the thing which it describes
explicitly. One work I have seen it in is The Black Cat . In this work, connotation has been used
negative common seen as bad luck in many cultures. Throughout The Black Cat connotation appears
quite a few times, one that I found interesting was when he had found a new cat, the cat had white fur
around its neck, Poe states that the fur starts to turn into the form of the gallows which is what Poe had
used to hang the old cat. The cat is a sign of connotation as bad luck.
Imagery is the use of figurative language to represent objects, actions, and ideas in such a way that it
appeals to our physical senses. In The Black Cat , Poe uses words and phrases to create mental images
for the reader, imagery helps the reader to visualize and see it more realistically. For example,

Tracing back to April of 1995 to the present, the development and advancements of DNA databases
have significantly progressed, allowing it to have the capabilities it has today. In 1995, the first
government national DNA database was established in the United Kingdom for the purpose of
collecting genetic information from criminals. This idea has since progressed to encompass the genetic
information of all citizens. This information will be derived from human material. There is
controversy over the idea of expanding from criminals to all citizens due to a threat to human privacy.
Although this controversy was rooted in England, over 60 other countries have come to adopt the
database system, thus causing the controversy to expand to all of these other countries ( Is It Ethical
To Have A National DNA Database? ). Some of these countries include New Zealand, France, and
even the United States. In the United States, the government started a project known as CODIS
(Combined DNA Index System) in 1994. CODIS is the FBI s program that allows forensic DNA
laboratories to create and search databases of DNA profiles. The federal DNA Identification Act of
1994 authorized the FBI to create CODIS and set national standards for forensic DNA testing. Since
1994, the debate has expanded from having only the genetic information of criminals to having every

African American Child Segregation Essay
Segregation and discrimination have brought traumatic distress to the black community as it is still
evident in today s society.Though it is illegal to segregate others because of their racial background or
religion, the terror of this act is just the same as it was when it was legal. Upon discovery about their
ancestor s past, African American children unconsciously strip any positive perspective they have of
themselves which eventually passes on to others around them.
A study done by Psychologists Kenneth and Mamie Clark in the 1940 s was done in order to test the
effects segregation has on African American children. A set of 4 almost identical dolls, different in
color, were placed before a group of 3 7 year old children. The question
which doll do you prefer and why? was asked which most children chose the white doll. Additional to

Tourette s Syndrome Research Paper
Tourette s syndrome is a disorder which affects the motor and verbal ability of a person suffering from
the disorder. We chose this disorder because it was an interesting disorder to research and discuss. One
of the reasons that it was interesting to us, is that it comes in many different forms and intensities.
Another is that, it is a moderately uncommon disorder which sparked our interest to look into it more.
Our final reason for choosing the syndrome was, that we found out that the disease changes with
people constantly over time. Tourette s was most likely discovered in 1884 by Georges Albert Édouard
Brutus Gilles de la Tourette. He discovered the illness after his mentor, Jean Martin Charcot, assigned
him to study illnesses characterized by sudden outbursts. In an article published by Gilles, Tourette s
was described as having the following: childhood onset, hereditability, stereotyped movements,
repetition of spoken words and foul language, etc. At the time, Gilles was only able to accurately

The type of figurative of speech that he used was imagery and metaphor. Lux used imagery and
metaphor because he wants to enhance the description and give the reader a mental image of what
word he is describing. When Lux had used imagery, he is mainly talking about the barn. Some people
hated the barn they knew; some people love the barn they know so you hear the word loaded and
sensory connection. (line 23 25). Lux purpose for saying that quotation is because a different
individual might see a different image how they would think a barn would look. For instance,
someone might think that a barn is brown, and others may think it is red. Additionally, Lux said
another imagery line. By an internal ear informed by internal abstracts and what you know by feeling
(line 13 14). Th purpose that Lux is trying to point out is that when a word is said, it shows an image
that may bring memories. Then for metaphor, Lux began to speak about darkness. Dark cathedral of
your skull (line 11 12). Lux reasoning for saying that is because a dark cathedral might seem to be a
dark quiet place where everyone can hear or speak in their own internal voice. Lux used figuratively

The Fluid Nature Of White Collar Crime
The nebulous nature of white collar crime has long been explored, defined and redefined throughout
its history by a great number of people specialising in a variety of fields. Despite being first
introduced by Edwin Sutherland in 1939, some 78 years prior to today, the problem remains: how
should white collar crime be defined? The fluid nature of white collar crime itself does not easily lend
itself to be defined and thus there exists no universally accepted definition despite the numerous
attempts to accomplish the feat. Typically, the definition of a criminal offence is determined according
to very specific criteria: the characteristics of the crime itself, with the characteristics of the offender
remaining irrespective. However, many, tend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today there remains no universally accepted definition of white collar crime, and so long as inclusion
of the offender continues this will not change. Discussion of white collar crime is flawed and biased
due to an age old definition derived in a time before cell phones. High social status and respectability
does not waver consequences for serious crimes. It is time to treat white collar crime as any other
crime and remove the concept of the handsome banker in suit and tie from the equation. Why include
the offender at all? White collar crimes are committed irrespective of social factors, causing
significant difficulty when attempting to define white collar crime based on offender characteristics.
Are we, by including offender characteristics limiting the scope of the crime itself to that defined
nearly a century ago, and, are we, by introducing class specifications creating an institutionalised bias
that allows these criminals to walk free? Should white collar crime be defined according to offender or
offence? The answer is

test, calculate the percentage of the ice cube melted by [mass of melt water/initial mass of ice cube] x

Sequence of Events
I started with controlling my experiment environment. It was in a still kitchen, with no appliances
running to minimize humidity and control the room temperature. I then broke my ice cube tray and
finding cubes that weight .10grams. I set up my timer for each station. I put three .10gram ice cubes in
a identical contained on top of the pre measured ½ teaspoon of sugar, salt and baking soda, then I hit
start on the timer. When the timer hit 15 minutes I picked up each ice cube and put it on another dry
identical dish. I then measured the melted liquid, followed by measuring the melted ice cube alone. I
repeated this three times to get an average.

The Death Penalty And The Fourteenth Amendment
The death penalty to many people could be considered unconstitutional under the eighth and the
fourteenth amendment s. People fear nothing more than death itself because death is final. Execution
dates being carried out promptly with assigned dates after a fair trial would discourage almost anyone
from committing future crimes that are worthy of execution. We as a society are based on the need for
retribution and vengance. Making a wrongdoer pay the price equivalent to the price the wrongdoer
did. Sparsely carrying out executions prolongs the mental and emotional suffering of the victim s
family and friends. It cost taxpayers millions of dollars per year, more than general population to
house a death row inmates. Allowing death row inmates to sit on death row for 25 plus years is a
lugsury most dont deserve. With less than 10% of all inmates being exonorated in the past 200 years
of death penalties it is unclear why executions are not more readily carried out.
Currently, the total number of inmates that have been executed in the US is 1,434. While the total
number of inmates currently on death row is 2,943, 55 of which are female inmates.
Our desire for retribution dates back as early as the 18th Century BC. We feel the need to see the
wrongdoer have consequences for their actions. To be punished and feel the pain that their victim felt
so they can also suffer. Some people love that idea that the person who commited a crime suffers by
whatever means necessary. Knowing

McMillan uses harsh words throughout the poem to show his grief and remorse at his mothers death.
Words like shatters link with how he is feeling, like everything is broken and cannot be repaired. This
word makes us imagine something broken into lots of tiny pieces which can t be put back together
again, and it helps us to understand how broken and jumbled up he is feeling. The word slap when
talking about the tears (that) slap my torn face insinuates the idea that he is in physical pain, that the
emotional pain he feels is is so strong that he physically hurts.
In the first stanza, we find out about his mothers death. Enjambment is used to speed up the pace of

McMillan describes his tears to slap his torn face ; as well as slap being a raw and aggressive word,
the way he describes his face as torn perhaps suggests that it was his mother who held him together,
and now, without her, he is broken. This helps us to realise how important his mother was to him,
which makes us sympathise for him a lot and evokes a feeling of empathy when we put ourselves in
his position. McMillan says he feels trapped , like he is trapped by his own emotion and although it s
up to him to find a way out of this dark place, he can t see an escape. This shows how alone and
scared he is feeling knowing his motherr is no longer around and also makes us think how panicked he
must be feeling, as we would be if we were trapped somewhere. The word float makes us think that
McMillan is no longer in control of his emotions, that what he is feeling is unstoppable, but also it
instigates the sense that nothing seems quite normal around him, and that he is detached from reality.
The final stanza is a rhyming couplet that summarises the grief and emptiness and the lack of will to
go on without his mother. Feeling that the story ends just here conveys the idea that there isn t a story
to continue without his mother, showing how depressed McMillan is feeling, like he has reached a
dead end in his

Leon Czolgosz Assassination
I think I know
I know that President McKinley was the 25th president of the United States and was only the 3rd
president to be assassinated up until this time. This was never a widely coved topic in any of my
previous history classes so I m coming into this project with virtually no former knowledge.
I Know
On September 6, 1901 at 2:30, president McKinley was shot and wounded. According to the Coconino
Sun Newspaper, released only one day after the attack, the President had attended a reception that was
being held in the Music Hall of the Pan American Exposition. The Pan Americans Exposition, also
known as the World Fair, was held in Buffalo New York from May 1 to November 2, 1901.

Not only was the president of the United Stated shot in killed, but the man who did it was a known
anarchist. There was already a great fear of this group in American, so, this event just reiterated that
fear. Other anarchist were arrested with the belief that they had ties to this crime. Although we now
believe that Czolgosz was acting alone, it was the fear of anarchy that lead police into arresting
innocent people. This act of terrorism compares with what the United States is facing. Although this
event occurred over one hundred years ago, things like terrorism connects this event to today. The
death of McKinley lead to some changes in policies and procedures. Many Americans believed that
the president was not being protected well enough. Even though the government wouldn t confess to
not protecting their president, there was still a change. When William McKinley s vice president,
Theodore Roosevelt, took office after McKinley s death, the Secret Service was in full time protection
of him to make sure nothing like the McKinley assassination would happen

Analysis of the Mona Lisa
Kim Pokladowski
2/20/11
I have always been intrigued with the Mona Lisa, I don t know why but there is something about her
smile and her eyes that captivates me. The realness of the painting and how ordinary the Mona Lisa is
the reason why I can look at this painting with great joy, it doesn t make me think too much, it doesn t
confuse me, the simplicity and the normalcy of this painting is what I enjoy so much. However, after
an analysis you can see that the painting isn t so ordinary.
The Leonardo de Vinci used oils to paint his picture. During the 15th century using oils was very
common. By using oils Leonardo was able to create a real lifelike painting. Since the oils dry slowly

You can see that the painting seems to be made up of three triangles. Mona Lisa being the biggest then
the left top corner is the background and the top right corner, a continuation of the background. From
what we ve read he designed this painting in an upright triangular composition. However, these two
backgrounds seem to not be part of the same landscape. The left top corner seems more shaded, and
darker. Also the winding road I feel might symbolize troublesomeness, or decisions. Where as, the
right top side of the background is a little lighter in color and the path seems clear and straight. By
positioning the Mona Lisa the way Leonardo did creates balance within the painting. He also did a
wonderful job on the symmetry of her face and of the painting, between the objects in the painting and
the color used its self.
You can see that when viewing a painting like this there are many questions that arise in your mind.
Looking at the Mona Lisa I get drawn in and a sense of wonderment comes over me. I start to imagine
the person in the painting and what her smile was really about. A strong, confident women is what I
think she was, and that was brought out beautifully by de Vinci. I also think that the way he painted
the Mona Lisa shows a lot about what and how Leonardo viewed women. Many say that it was
painted for the love of his mother. What do you

Titration Of Hcl Lab Report
For this experiment, a series of strong acid strong base titrations were performed to determine the
unknown solution concentration of HCl. KHP was first titrated with NaOH in order to create a
standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to titrate a known volume of the unknown 1
HCl solution. The results were then used to determine the exact concentration of the original HCl
sample. One thing that could be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of
deionized water. Throughout the rinsing process of the pH probe, the deionized water s pH reading
would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the analyte, the results were
slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could have resulted in the pH of the solutions
being slightly off when it came to the LabQuest readings.
The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one another throughout
the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint than at the equivalence point. For the
titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00 mL and the 2nd
derivative curve amount was 9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP and NaOH, this
same trend was seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined by looking at the
equivalence point. This is the point where all of the H+ was neutralized by OH . The endpoint is
where the indicator, phenolphthalein, changed color based on pH. The color

Bedrocks In The Handcart Gulch
The bedrocks in the Handcart Gulch consist of Proterozoic meta sediment and meta igneous rocks and
Tertiary porphyry intrusive rocks (Bove et al 2012, Lovering 1935). Bove et al., (2002) measured rock
properties including mineralogy, alteration, and bulk chemistry from recovered cores. Four deep wells
(WP1 WP4) were located in the upper portions of the watershed, and nine shallow wells were along
the main channels (HC wells). The WP1 was located on ridge top of Webster Pass at 3687 m, and
drilled to a depth of 610 m, and WP2 was located in the upper portions of the watershed, and dilled to
a depth of 460 m. The felsic rocks in WP1 and 2 were hydrothermally altered due to the intrusion, and
the degree of alteration varied with depth. In upper sections, the rocks were altered to quartz sericite
pyrite mineral assemblages, whose depths extended to 300 m in WP1 and 200m in WP2. In deeper
sections, the rocks were weakly altered to propylitic assemblages that contain calcite, chlorite, and
primary feldspars.

Although the firm has been working on maximum efficiency, Tom Mathis has come up with a better
solution to solve the problem. He plans to cut costs by purchasing supplies from overseas sellers. Mr.
Mathis knew that this strategy would have increased the cost and time of delivery. The factory buyers
should also take the time to investigate any potential new vendors. So he is using information
technology to implement the program and to improve the process of inventory restocking.
(Larenernest, 2010) However, workers have been so accustomed to the Kanban system that it is
difficult for them to change the system, so there is a high resistance to change among the business. In
addition, it is well known that Microsoft managed to reduce inventory levels and increase production
rates without significant investment in information technology. They settled with the traditional
method of trying to adopt new methods and many operating firms were deliberately separated from
the technology because the first thing the experts tell Kanban factory to do is to disconnect the
Material Requirements Planning System (MRP). MRP is a system used to manage manufacturing
processes in terms of production planning, scheduling, and inventory control. This causes another
problem for Mr. Mathis since the firm does not have the internal resources needed to support the
system that he wants to employ. (Carr, 2005)

3. Book versus. Film
It was discovered that the amount of people who had favoured the film over the book and vice versa

Contradicting this notion is Thomas Leitch s eighth fallacy of Contemporary Adaptation Theory

the use of storytelling devices are more easily determined between projects utilising the same medium,

What is the definition of a quasar? When radio telescopes were first turned on the heavens, point
sources of radio waves were discovered (along with spread out regions of emission along our Milky
Way). Astronomers using ordinary visible light telescopes turned toward these radio points and looked
to see what was there. In some cases a supernova remnant was found, in others, a large star birth
region, in others a distant galaxy. But in some places where point sources of radio waves were found,
no visible source other than a stellar looking object was found (it looked like a point of a star).
These objects were called the quasi stellar radio sources or quasars for short. Later, it was found these
sources could not be stars in our galaxy, but must be very far away as far as any of the distant galaxies
seen. We now think these objects are the very bright centers of some distant galaxies, where some sort
of energetic action is occurring, most probably due to the presence of a supermassive black hole at the

Capital punishment is not a fair or equal penalty, depending on who you are or where you live will
dramatically affect the outcome of a sentence. First, race is a huge factor and capital punishment is
fraught with racism. A 1998 study found that African Americans were 38% more likely to receive the
death penalty in Philadelphia than other races. (Rust Tierney) Not only are African Americans more
likely to receive the death penalty but 83% of cases that do receive it involve white victims. This is
true despite the fact that only 50% of murder victims are white. (Rust Tierney) These statistics do not
indicate a fair and unbiased system, people are equipped with their own prejudices and consciously or
not these leanings have created a disparity in the justice structure. The system is also biased against
the poor. Individuals with little to no wealth can not access the high cost, well equipped representation
the rich can. Over 99% of people sentenced to capital punishment are indigent and are often poorly
represented. There is a plethora of other issues that arise with the death penalty, the sentencing is
inconsistent, dependent on the prosecutors and judges in the specific case, and the mentally ill are
condemned despite laws implemented to prevent this. This leads to the next point, errors. The most

Book Review Of The Notorious Benedict Arnold
The Notorious Benedict Arnold Noah Collins 4th Period Chapters 1 3 The book opens to a grim scene

1870 And 1910 Research Paper
Before the Civil War, during the literary movements of Transcendentalism and Romanticism, many
Americans looked at the world in an optimistic point of view. After the Civil War during the
Reconstruction Era, many changed their outlook from optimistic to a more realistic outlook on life.
The time period between 1870 and 1910 was when the literary movements, Realism and Naturalism in
literature became prominent. Authors like Stephen Crane and Mary Chesnut wrote novels that
followed these movements. These writings helped influence today s writers to write more about
current events and how they affect people. The movements are still relevant today as it can be shown

what America was governed by. Under the Articles of Confederation, the nation was weak and the

these different views and what my opinions of these views are at the end. Stephen Breyer s viewpoint
is strictly democratic. Literalism has a tendency to undermine the Constitution s efforts to create a
framework for democratic government (510) is a quote that explains Breyer s view very well. Breyer
looks at the constitutional purposes and consequences saying that they need to first look at what the
original law was intended to do and prevent. On the other side of that, they also want to look at the
punishments that went along with each policy. Breyer argues that any question you have about the
original text can be answered by looking at what the original law was intended for. He said this, A
focus on purpose seeks to promote active liberty by insisting on interpretations, statutory as well as
constitutional, that are consistent with the people s will (514). If you are going to resolve the problems
that arise in a governmental setting, you must have a better grasp on democratic objective. You need to
understand original democracy and why the laws were put in place, in order to understand the textual
meeting of the original constitution. He believes that the original text is not enough to go off of if you

Let s go deeper to understand why these two points can decrease the efficiency of an organization. Time is very important for an organization (most of the time concerning companies), the quicker, the better. Indeed, the influence of time on companies is due in order to satisfy customers. This means to have the best employee as possible, and the first step is obviously the recruitment with a personality test. Of course it takes time to do a test when we recruit someone. However, we should see this on the long term and not short term because the benefit is really huge. Aging individuals sources of income include Social Security, employment, private pensions, and assets. The median household income for those 65 and older in 2007 was only $27, 798 (Hooyman Kiyak, 2011). I chose financial security as the most pressing issue facing the older population because it influences several other areas. The current truth is that access and success in higher education continue to be stratified according to income... (Eckel King, 2004). With Clinton s plan access would increase, and with that enrollment would increase. Increased enrollment at college campuses strikes as an initially positive thought; more students can gain and education and contribute that education to bettering society. But what about the state schools that are already struggling with enrollment issues? Will they continue to live out their mission and increase enrollment at the expense of the student s education quality. Literary devices refer to the typical structures used by writers in their works to convey his or her message in a simple manner to his or her readers. When employed properly, the different literary devices help readers to appreciate, interpret and analyze a literary work. , and by developing a strong understanding of what they are and how they function, one can increase their enjoyment of the writing. Connotation refers to a meaning that is implied by a word apart from the thing which it describes explicitly. One work I have seen it in is The Black Cat . In this work, connotation has been used negative common seen as bad luck in many cultures. Throughout The Black Cat connotation appears quite a few times, one that I found interesting was when he had found a new cat, the cat had white fur around its neck, Poe states that the fur starts to turn into the form of the gallows which is what Poe had used to hang the old cat. The cat is a sign of connotation as bad luck. Imagery is the use of figurative language to represent objects, actions, and ideas in such a way that it appeals to our physical senses. People fear nothing more than death itself because death is final. Execution dates being carried out promptly with assigned dates after a fair trial would discourage almost anyone from committing future crimes that are worthy of execution. We as a society are based on the need for retribution and vengance. Making a wrongdoer pay the price equivalent to the price the wrongdoer did. Sparsely carrying out executions prolongs the mental and emotional suffering of the victim s family and friends. It cost taxpayers millions of dollars per year, more than general population to house a death row inmates. Allowing death row inmates to sit on death row for 25 plus years is a lugsury most dont deserve. McMillan describes his tears to slap his torn face ; as well as slap being a raw and aggressive word, the way he describes his face as torn perhaps suggests that it was his mother who held him together, and now, without her, he is broken. This helps us to realise how important his mother was to him, which makes us sympathise for him a lot and evokes a feeling of empathy when we put ourselves in his position. McMillan says he feels trapped , like he is trapped by his own emotion and although it s up to him to find a way out of this dark place, he can t see an escape. This shows how alone and scared he is feeling knowing his motherr is no longer around and also makes us think how panicked he must be feeling, as we would be if we were trapped somewhere. The word float makes us think that McMillan is no longer in control of his emotions, that what he is feeling is unstoppable, but also it instigates the sense that nothing seems quite normal around him, and that he is detached from reality. The final stanza is a rhyming couplet that summarises the grief and emptiness and the lack of will to go on without his mother. Feeling that the story ends just here conveys the idea that there isn t a story to continue without his mother, showing how depressed McMillan is feeling, like he has reached a dead end in his ... However, after an analysis you can see that the painting isn t so ordinary. The Leonardo de Vinci used oils to paint his picture. During the 15th century using oils was very common. The left top corner seems more shaded, and darker. Also the winding road I feel might symbolize troublesomeness, or decisions. Where as, the right top side of the background is a little lighter in color and the path seems clear and straight. By positioning the Mona Lisa the way Leonardo did creates balance within the painting. KHP was first titrated with NaOH in order to create a standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to titrate a known volume of the unknown 1 HCl solution. The results were then used to determine the exact concentration of the original HCl sample. One thing that could be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of deionized water. Throughout the rinsing process of the pH probe, the deionized water s pH reading would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the analyte, the results were slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could have resulted in the pH of the solutions being slightly off when it came to the LabQuest readings. The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one another throughout the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint than at the equivalence point. For the titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00 mL and the 2nd derivative curve amount was 9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP and NaOH, this same trend was seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined by looking at the equivalence point.
