Socrates And Plato s Views On The Society
Socrates had different views from the Athenians. He believed that democracy wouldn t work in
their society, nor in any society. He doesn t believe that the people are capable of governing
themselves. Socrates and Plato believed that the common man was too stupid, to say the least, to
govern him/herself and to have a say in society. Socrates was in pursuit or truth his entire life. In
his eyes, how could he let someone have the capabilities to make their own decisions with the
potential for an error to occur. He was for a philosopher kings because they could at least imagine
what absolute truth looked like and hopefully bring it to the people. It s not that Socrates thought
everyone was idiotic, he just didn t want anything to stop him on his pursuit of finding truth. He
already was upset enough that the world was constanly changing. He didn t want another human
error to change his perception and rationality to one thing that he almost found the truth in. He
favored a shepherd becasue that person was there to watch over and protect the sheep. He could
make decisions for the sheep and guide the sheep to stay out of trouble, find food and shelter, and
to spend their days meandering through the meadows. This is a great analogy, but then again the
shepherd why would the shepherd being tending to the flock without some sort of compensation in
it for him. Socrated believed that by inserting the king where the shepherd was and the people
where the sheep were, he would

Perception And Scale Are Permanently Bonded
As human beings it sometimes appears that we are subject to our psychology as opposed to
having control over it. Almost every decision we make, every thought that crosses our minds,
every emotion that affects us has been created by an invisible process by our brain, a brain that
doesn t feel the need to explain its reasoning to us. Whether or not God exists, it is clear that we
are beholden to forces we do not, and can not control. This was something I felt more than ever
in our past couple weeks of humanities. In this time I learned that perception and scale are
permanently bonded. It is only by coming to grips with scale up close, and far away that we may
find balance in our perspective. We need to see things from far away to understand them, but it is
by looking at them up close that we make them feel humanand real. Without either of these
perspectives we stunt our potential understanding as learners, as thinkers, and as people who
understand what it means to be alive as humans.
It is sometimes hard to see the point of looking at things up close. Why would we deliberately miss
so much of the picture by focusing on just one small piece of it? I believe that an up close
viewpoint is important to maintain to prevent psychic numbing and to maintain the humanity of
events that we have no direct connection with. When learning about the history of the universe and
of life zooming out too much can prevent you from empathizing with people from history. We have
a tendency as

Medical Cannabis Act
Legislative Analysis West Virginia Medical Cannabis Act Undertreatment of pain, nausea and
vomiting related to cancer, seizures, PTSD, and anxiety have become a huge problem in the United
States. Because of this undertreatment, many patients have begun to self medicate with other
measures to alleviate their symptoms. Some turn to alcohol, some to prescription drugs, and others
to cannabisin one form or another. Some of these means are regulated more than others and some
of these cause problems in themselves. Alcohol, while highly regulated leads to many problems; it
can result in financial hardships, marital issues, addiction, family issues, as well as legal problems.

published by the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy in 2016, West Virginia could be
looking at a revenue of $26 million and up if marijuana was legalized, not including the burden
taken off the legal system as well as money saved in legal fees. Included in the fiscal note for
Senate Bill 386, it states that it costs the state of West Virginia an average of $27,684 per year for
incarcerated individuals. The bill is also supported by the Marijuana Policy Project, which is
currently lobbying for this bill. I have not found any groups specifically opposed to this

Red Emma Song Review Essay
The song Red Emma uses a trumpet, guitar, drums, tambourine, and it sounds like a maraca is used
occasionally. The trumpet opens with a melody and then plays a similar melody at the end of the
song. There are solo improvisations from the trumpet, guitar, and drums. The drummer and guitarist
play improvised melodies underneath the trumpeter for most of the song, except when they take
their solos. During the solo improvisations, the instruments that are not soloing are playing
melodies underneath the improvisation. Technically, there is no rhythm section because the drums
and guitarplay improvised melodies throughout the song. The drummer does keep a rhythm and
follows a structure that is established by the trumpeter. The trumpet adds tone color by playing
across the range from low to high and adjusting pitch. The guitar changes the tone by playing
different chords that have a low and high pitch. The drummer adds colorations by using cymbals
and playing different drums to alter pitch. The song uses an A B C D form that is not consistent
throughout the song. This song is very different from anything that I have ever listened to. This
upbeat and fast tempo song has an excited feel about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both songs use different instrumentation, except for the drums. Both songs play their instruments in
a high register and alter the pitch to add colorations. The tempo of both songs is fast, but Miami has

feeling. Red Emma draws from Eastern European influences and Miami draws from African, South
America, Cuban, and Caribbean influences. The rhythms of both songs are different, but they are
what drive both of these songs and establish their cultural sound. The rhythm from the drums,
percussion, and bass and the melodies from the saxophone and piano are what give the song Miami

In many emerging markets, a number of studies have also emerged which examine whether the
initiatives of corporate governance have led to an improvement in the quality of financial reporting
and whether these initiatives have been effective in tackling the problem of earnings management.
Shen and Chih (2007), for example, find in nine Asian countries that firms with good corporate
governance tend to conduct less earnings management. Also, In India, Sarkar et al. (2008) show
that diligent boards are associated with lowers earnings manipulation. Additionally, in Jordan, Al
khabash and Althuneibat (2009) provide evidence that the existence of internal governance
structure has a significant influence on the practice of illegitimate earnings management. In
support, Kamel and Elbanna (2010) find a consensus among their respondents regarding the
importance of combating earnings management in Egypt through greater reliance on internal
corporate governance mechanisms. In particular, this paper examines the roles board, audit
committee, board size, and number of board meeting to reduce earnings management practices in
Bangladesh. In a September 1998 speech to lawyers and CPAs, Arthur Levitt, chairman of the
Security Exchange Commission committed the SEC in no uncertain terms to a serious, high
priority attack on earnings management (Loomis, 1999, p. 76). There followed

Siege of Cawnpore
The Siege of Cawnpore was an important part of the Indian rebellion of 1857.When Nana Sahib
captured Cawnpore (now Kanpur) British forces surrendered to him and in turn he promised them a
safe passage to Allahabad. Unfortunately their evacuation had turned into a massacre during which
most of them were killed. It was indeed an unpleasant event of siege of Kanpur.
Kanpur was an important garrison town situated on the Grand Trunk Road and Grand Trunk Canal
beside the river Ganges and lay on the approaches to Punjab, Sind and Oudh provinces.
In 1857, British ruled two thirds of India through East India Company. The remaining part of the
country was under the control of Princes with whom the British had an alliance. The year 1857 was

During siege the British felt that the magazine situated in the northern part of Cawnpore was the
most suitable defensive place for them to stay. It had thick walls, ample ammunition and stores
and also hosted the local treasury. But General Wheeler decided to take refuge in the southern part
of the city, in an entrenchment that was composed of two barracks surrounded by a mud wall. This
area didn t have proper sanitary facilities. It had only one well. There were several buildings
overlooking the entrenchment which would provide cover for the attackers.
There were many other safe places in Cawnpore but General Wheeler s choice of choosing this
place stands still controversial. He might have expected the reinforcements to arrive from the
southern part of the city. He might have also assumed that, in case of a rebellion, the Indian troops
would probably collect their arms, ammunition and money and would head to Delhi and therefore,
he did not expect such a long siege.
After three weeks of siege, the British started facing the difficulties. The summers were very hot.
Many died due to sunstroke. They were short of ammunition as they had to face successive
bombardments, snip fire and assaults from Nana Sahib s side. Their food supplies were getting
exhausted and they had to face starvation. People were becoming sick and they were deprived of
medical facilities. In such a situation

Walter Mitty Dream
In The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Walter Mitty daydreams into fantastic fantasies as he faces
the harshness of reality. Walter is first seen as the Commander of a navy hydroplane through a
hurricane. However, the The Old Man ain t afraid of Hell (The) in the hurricane is afraid of his
wife as she nags him for speeding. Unnamed Mrs. Mitty continues to command her husband even
insisting that he wear gloves. Walter, upset, purposely takes off the gloves at a red light. As he
stopped at the red light for too long, a cop tells him to Pick it up, brother! (The). Mitty
interestingly assumed the cop to be referring to the gloves he took off instead of the car. Because
of the authority figure of the cop, the second daydream is triggered. Mitty... Show more content on

Thurber had a troublesome marriage with Althea; Walter is constantly being controlled by Mrs.
Mitty. Because of Mrs. Mitty s nagging and imposing influence seen in paragraphs 3 and 4,
Walter is triggered into a daydream. As a world famous surgeon, he not only is in control of his
life, but the life of his patient. Mitty cleverly adapts to emergencies like using a fountain pen to
fix the needed surgical machinery (The). Every time he escapes, it is because of a trigger, often
through an authority figure imposing on him. In fact, it is the clear distinction between fantasy and
reality that makes escaping a theme. The heavy juxtaposition between diction of the dream world
and real life is evident. For example, in the second daydream as a surgeon, Dr. Mitty snapped at
fellow doctors and nurses to give him a fountain pen and uses fake yet complicated sounding
medical terms such as Obstreosis of the ductal tract (The). However, in the subsequent paragraph as
Walter clumsily almost hits another car in the parking lot in reality, he only muttered in response to
the valet, unable to give a definitive reply. The dramatic juxtaposition between Mitty s spectacular
fantasies and mundane reality drives the story. Thurber highlights Mitty s desperateness for action
through the drastic differences in scenes. Also, Thurber distinguishes daydreams by incorporating
much more imperative voice and literary devices compared to straight dialogue in the reality.
Thurber literally makes the fantasies more alive and interesting than boring reality. Onomatopoeia
is seen in 3 of the 5 daydreams, ta pocketa pocketa... in paragraph 1 for the hydroplane and the same
sound for the surgical machine (The). Rat tat tatting in paragraph 14 reflects the machine gun
sounds Captain Mitty heard during war. By using onomatopoeia,

Dent Island
4 Tips To Enjoy Your Vacation
Here are the four best ways to enhance your vacation experience on Dent Island. Important tips
include organizing and planning the trip, balancing the amount of activities in a specific time
frame, stepping outside your comfort zone trying new things, and establishing a deep connection
with nature.
Planning Things Ahead of Time
Organizing each activity in advance would release the burden of winging it. On the flip side,
planning things ahead of time could also become extremely challenging because it requires lots of
research, which is a time consuming task. This could become an inconvenience for a business
person with many responsibilities on their plate because they do not have the time to spare. Well,
there is light at the end of the tunnel! Setting up a Jet Boat Adventure Tour will relieve all the stress
and pain associated with planning a trip because the company owning the tour does all the research
and preparation work for you.
2. Step Outside Your Comfort Zone
Sometimes familiarity breeds contempt, and therefore stepping outside your comfort zone and
doing different things is a great way to really enjoy a vacation. Travelers with an adventurous spirit
will sometimes close their eyes, spin a globe, and place their forefinger on a location and go there.
Although this is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After each activity is decided, it is time to create balance to make sure there is enough time to
enjoy every one of them. Try not cram too many activities into one day because that could take
away from the experience. Although Dent island offers freshwater and saltwater salmon fishing,
other outdoor activities include kayaking and hiking as well. After spending a day on the raft or
battling the Chinook salmon, the Dent Island Lodge restaurant offers a luxury experience of fine
dining along with picturesque views of the natural landscape in a unique

Common Symptoms and Damages of Measles Essay
The Latin name for measles is rubeola. The pathogen which causes the disease is a
paramyxovirus, which is one of a group of RNA (ribonucleic acid) viruses. Measles is a
respiratory disease caused by a virus, and also comes out in a rash. The virus enters the body via
the respiratory system, and grows in the cells at the back of the throat and in the cells that line the
lungs, from there it then enters the blood stream and circulates the body.
Common Symptoms
Usually a person doesn t start to get symptoms of measles until they have been infected with the
virus for 7 11 days. The symptoms are:
Runny nose
Dry hacking cough
Sore throat lymph nodes swell
Sneezing
Fever this can be mild or severe and can reach 105FВє ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(see image 1)
The symptoms usually last about 2 weeks in all.
Rare Symptoms
There are more serious symptoms of having mumps, but although these are more severe they are
also a lot less common.
The rare or uncommon symptoms include:
Encephalitis inflammation of the brain
Inflammation of the nervous system
Infection of the middle ear
A very high fever
Severe headache
Breathing difficulty
Long term damage disabilities
It is very important to immunise against this disease not only because it is a very contagious virus
but because it can have some very serious long term effects.
The most serious of these is obviously death, and people can and do die from measles; there are 1
million deaths worldwide caused by measles.
Also measles can cause deafness because of the inner ear infection.
Another long term damage of measles could be SSPE (Subacute Sclerosing Panencaphilitis). This
can occur 2 to 10 years after contracting the measles virus, this results in progressive neurological
deterioration because of brain inflammation.
Common side effects of the vaccine
Although it is very important to immunise against this disease, the vaccine does have side effects,
and no vaccine is completely safe. The Measles vaccine is given as part of the MMR vaccine, which
protects against measles, mumps and rubella. The common and less severe side effects are; fever;
mild rash; temporary pain or stiffness of joints,

How Lobbying Is A Negative Connotation On Everyday Language
As several authors this week contend, lobbying tends to carry a negative connotation in everyday
language. The key issues that the authors seek to address this week, are when lobbying occurs, the
nature of lobbying, and how it works. Overall, there is some agreement on the fact that lobbying is
prevalent, the disagreements arise over what purpose lobbyingserves, and what the strategies
underlying lobbying are. One key debate among the authors is what is actually influenced by
lawmaking. On one hand, Hansen (1991) takes the perspective that lobbying influences the
relationship between interest groups and lawmakers. Hansen bases his argument on the belief that
because legislators want to be reelected and they lack information about the issue preferences of
their constituents, the salience of issues to their constituents, and the effectiveness of various policy
options, they will seek information to reduce this uncertainty. The service that interest groups
provide the, is this information. Certain interest groups, Hansen argues have competitive advantage,
(p. 13) in the sense that they can provide certainty about constituent beliefs in an efficient and
effective manner, in order to help lawmakers get reelected. Given that elections re occur, an
additional point Hansen makes is for interest groups to have some kind of influence over
lawmakers, the conditions that provide this competitive advantage must be expected to recur. When
these conditions are met, interest groups

When Is Human Cloning Wrong
In February 1997, the scientific world was forever changed by the announcement of the birth of
Dolly the Sheep, the first mammal cloned from an adult cell (Jones 160). For the first time in
medical history, science allowed for the possibility of human cloning. With this development came
the concern that scientists would not only speculate about humancloning, but actually seek to
attempt it. Such a prospect generates ethical unease from both the public and Christian community.
From a Christian perspective, human cloning creates concerns for the well being of a cloned child
or embryo and usurps God s plan for human dominion. Human cloning would not be compatible
with Christian ethics. In this essay, any reference to the word clone may be... Show more content on

Therapeutic cloning holds the potential to treat illnesses like heart and kidney disease, but the
methods require that human embryos be destroyed for the benefit of others (Hansen Schotsman
76). The Bible directly states that killing is a sin (NIV Bible, Exodus 20:13). Although some may
argue that using an embryo for medicine is not murder, therapeutic cloning create embryos (the
very first stage of humanness) for the sole purpose of harvesting the stem cells, thus ending the
budding life of said embryo. This process certainly reflects a form of killing, even if it is only the
destruction of an incredibly early human form. Additionally, taking advantage of human embryos
disobeys Jesus command to love one another (NIV Bible, John 13:34). Jones states that therapeutic
cloning [undermines] the welfare and dignity of human embryos, which as the weakest and most
vulnerable of human beings should under no circumstances be experimented upon (174). No
situation could justify the exploitation of human embryos for the medicinal benefits of therapeutic

The Encoding of Contextual Fear Conditioning
The formation of new memories requires protein synthesis dependent changes in synaptic structure
and plasticity in the hippocampus. Studies in humans and animals suggest that these memories are
initially stored in hippocampus but later transferred to cortex for permanent storage. This
phenomenon is described as systems consolidation of memories. While the specific role for new
proteinsynthesis in hippocampus in early encoding of memories is established, whether protein
synthesis in medial prefrontal cortex play a major role in encoding of memories is unclear. To
address this question, we used contextual fear conditioning (CFC) of mouse, a behavior training
that induce long lasting memories. A single training session produces robust lifelong memory(8) that
can be measured using automated procedures (9). Several studies have used CFC training as a
model to study hippocampal cortical communications and mechanisms underlying systems
consolidation of memories. Contextual fear memories are initially stored in hippocampus and then
moved to medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) for long term storage.
We assume that if encoding of contextual fear memories require protein synthesis at both
hippocampus and PFC, we will be able to identify translationally active mRNAs in hippocampus
and PFC. Because RNAs associated with polyribosomes indicate translational activation, we first
isolated polyribosomes from mPFC and hippocampus at two time points (one hour and six hours,

Singleton Vs State Of Arkansas Essay
Singleton vs. State of Arkansas: Psychiatric Medications on Death Row Jennifer Wallace PHIL
447 Thinking Week 1 Chamberlain College of Nursing Abstract On February 11, 2003, the
Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the State of Arkansas could force death row prisoner
Charles Laverne Singleton to take antipsychotic drugs to make him sane enough to execute.
Singleton was to be executed for felony capital murder but became insane while in prison
(Kaczynski, 2011). However, this touches on the legal and ethical issues of a patient s
competence, autonomy, and insight as well as the physician s responsibility to uphold the
American Medical Association s Code of Ethics which states a physician, as a member of a
profession dedicated to preserving life when there is hope of doing so, should not be a participant
in a legally authorized execution (Eisenberg, 2004). By giving the antipsychotic medication to Mr.
Singleton, the physician would be indirectly participating in his execution, which would violate

The teacher in the article, Pritti Mistry, discovered that children in her classes loved to paint. She
also noticed that children for some reason often chose the color red. After observing this for some
time, Mrs. Mistry brought in a bunch of red object to show her students. She then asked the
students to come up with a name for every different shade of the color red that they found in the
objects. However, this activity did not just stay in the classroom for long. The students eventually
wanted to look for red objects when they went outside, or when they left the school and went to
their homes. After a while, the students started mixing different color paints to try and recreate the
shades of red they saw. Through the mixing of the different colors the students were able to
discover texture. By mixing the paints on the canvas the different amounts of layers created
different textures.
Eventually, the students got tired of the color red, hey asked the teacher if she had any pink paint.
She told them to experiment with the other colors and see if they could figure out how to mix the
colors to make red. The students discovered very fast that it was white and red. To help the students
learn the shades of pink Mrs. Mistry took her class on a walk outside. The students all had
different names for the different shades some combined other colors and pink, like purplish pink,
others just said light or dark pink.

Jazz Messenger Art Blakey
In the same way as other admired jazz artists, the drummer Art Blakey held tight sufficiently long to
see his way to deal with music return into style.
A main drummer of the post World War II bop style exemplified by Charlie Parker, Blakey was
better known for his authority of his Jazz Messengers, one of the longest running and reliably
superb gatherings in jazz. The street to incredible status was twisting, in any case. Shunning the
vanguard, Blakey was overlooked by jazz faultfinders in the trial 1960s and disregarded by
American groups of onlookers in the 1970s, when rock applied its hegemonic control over the
matter of popular music. Not able to land a U.S. recording contract, he discharged various
collections for European names in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Putting aside his neo bop style, which he spearheaded, Blakey took in band individuals whose
tastes were unequivocally more pop than jazz. Throw Mangione s minimal known stay in the
Messengers trumpet seat was maybe a definitive impression of the breakdown in the social
concensus about the components of true jazz. Yet for Blakey afficianados, the 1970s have much to
offer, as another re issue from Fantasy Records illustrates. Mission Eternal contains two full
collections recorded by a heavenly Blakey band in March 1973 and initially discharged by the
Prestige mark under the titles of Buhaina and Athenagin. A cut underneath Blakey s best recordings
of the 1960s, these collections by and by demonstrate a familiarity with the cutting edge, a desire
for Latin beats and roused exhibitions by solid sidemen. Cedar Walton stays the gathering on piano
and contributes some solid organizations, outstandingly Mission Eternal. Carter Jefferson, an
innovative saxophonist who merits more extensive thankfulness, strikes a decent harmony between
constancy to models and the unavoidable quest for new sounds. His performance on Gertrude s
Bounce is brutish yet melodic. Vocalist Jon Hendricks, who joins the gathering on two cuts, is

Hundred Years War Rivalry
The Hundred Years War , a critical part of history today, the main and most important reason for
it was the rivalry and dissatisfaction between Edward ||| of England and Philip VI of France.
Edward III of England was also duke of Guyenne (part of Aquitaine in southwestern France) and
count of Ponthieu (on the English Channel). Furthermore, because his mother was Charles IV s
sister and because Charles IV had no sons, Edward III considered himself a legitimate claimant to
the French throne. The other major claimant was the Count of Valois, a grandson of Philip III of
France through a younger branch of the family. Edward III initially accepted Philip VI s accession

King Philip IV the Fair (1285 1314) was equally intent on asserting his sovereignty within the
realm of France, including Guyenne. Added to this were tensions over France s alliance with
Scotland (1295 and 1326) and English support of Flemish burghers hostile to the French Crown.
During the 1330s England gradually drifted into a state of hostility with France, for which the
most obvious reason was the dispute over English rule in Gascony. Contributory causes were
France s new king Philip VI s support of the Scots, Edward s alliance with the Flemish cities then
on bad terms with their French overlord and the revival in 1337 of Edward s claim, first made in
1328, to the French crown. Edward twice attempted to invade France from the north (1339,
1340), but the only result of his campaigns was to reduce him to bankruptcy. 1338 Edward III s
ambitions were supported by the newly appointed leader of the Flemish townsmen seeking
independence from France. Jacob van Artevelde formed a commercial treaty with Edward III and
encouraged Edward to claim the French crown. Edward III s first personally led campaign in
France (launched from Flanders into ThiГ©rache) proved ineffective, as well as financially

The Interlopers Thesis
Thesis statement: The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin has a unique and intelligent concept, but
is defeated by lack of story building and a rushed, badly constructed ending. The Interlopers by
Saki has a much more basic premise, but uses natural storytelling elements to create seamless story
progression and a more powerful message.
Setting
The Story of an Hour: The audience is keyed into the time period by mention of how popular
newsstands are, the lack of cell phones, and the social restrictions within marriages that Mrs.
Millard, the main character, describes. When Mrs. Millard s manic episode begins, she retires to
an armchair by an open window, symbolic of her newfound inner freedom. This creates imagery for
the audience and helps to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Suspense
The Story of an Hour: The first sentence sums up all that is wrong with suspense in this story,
Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break [...]
the news of her husband s death. In The Interlopers, story pertaining details were introduced as
scene setting, a subtle plot motivating technique this story abandons. The remaining suspense is
developed entirely through Mrs. Millard s hyperactive imagination as she dreams of the future. Her
euphoric visions are repeated, and repeated again. An uneasiness is created for the sole reason that
most people know that sane people don t think this way. Ultimately, the lazy suspense building
cheapens the ending and while successfully creates tension, dissolves itself by being overly obvious
and unvaried.
The Interlopers: Organic tension is built by atmosphere, dialogue, and subtle set up of the closing

Airbus Boeing
Airbus vs. Boeing
Stuart Taylor Chris Tillmanns November 13, 2002
The airline manufacturing industry consists of only two firms, Airbus in Toulouse, France and the
Chicago based Boeing. Two recent research and development moves at the two firms offer an
insight into the positioning strategy that each is taking in the future market place. It seems the two
firms are accenting two niche markets with a pair of flagship products, neither of which are in
direct competition with each other. This will allow for the firms to stave off price competition in
the short term by differentiating product lines, which is desirable given the recent increase in buyer
power gained by lowcost airlines.

Current Aircraft Market
The airline industry is in a downturn. In 2001, the International Air Transport Association had a net
loss of $17 billion, which is more than the industry has made in its entire history. 3 This has led to a
grim short term outlook for the airline manufacturers, and subsequently Boeing has cut 2002
production in half4 and Airbus by one fourth. 5 This, however, is not necessarily a good measure
of the industry s condition, since both companies have an extensive backlog that can be used to
maintain these new targets. Although the total backlog of 2,783 planes is worth an estimated
$172 million dollars6 it is also somewhat uncertain due to lax cancellation penalties negotiated by
the airlines during the boom years. Furthermore, the rise of low cost airlines does not directly
translate into a larger market for aircraft due to the fact that the success of low end carriers tends to
reduce the demand for aircraft by the large carriers.7 It is important to note however, that this is not
a permanent depression in the market, but a reflection of the cyclical nature of the industry.
Future Airline Industry Outlook
Both Airbus and Boeing, foresee dramatic growth in the airline industry over the next twenty years,
with the firms forecasting average annual growth of revenuepassenger kilometers at 4.2 and 4.9%
respectively. This will be generated by lower ticket prices and

The statistics are from 2012, so they could be slightly misleading because certain crimes could

due to the fact of the percentages of the populations of each race in the United states. Statistically,
whites commit more crimes than any other race, this is to be expected because they make up the
highest percentage of the United States population. The percentage of whites is 62.6% of the
population, the percentage of blacks is 12.3% of the population, the percentage of Native Americans
is 2% of the population, and for Asians, the percentage is 5%. If you compare the percentage of the

In the Shakespearean tragedy Hamlet, Hamlet struggles with finding the will to kill his uncle and
avenge his father. Believing the purpose of theater is, to hold, as twere, the mirror up to nature; to

that those individuals faced a tough race and when they lost, they would become his support
because people like to be used and not ignored. Another quotes that is related to the it s better to

Active Denial System Paper
Active Denial System The Active Denial System (ADS) is an electromagnetic, directed energy,
non lethal weapon designed by the US military and built by Raytheon (Cumming, 2010). The
ADS works by producing 95GHz electromagnetic radiation that is focused in a beam at a target
(Wikipedia, 2014). These 3.2mm electromagnetic waves work on the same principal as a
microwave oven. The waves excite water and fat molecules instantly heating them through
dielectric heating (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to the extremely high frequency of these waves, the
energy from them is absorbed in within the first 0.4mm of skin, meaning they do not affect vital
organs, blood vessels or nerve endings (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to these attributes, and the results of
numerous studies, in which the worst injury inflicted by the ADS were pea sized blisters, with a 1

This becomes a major problem when there is a large amount of water in the environment. In a
situation with low humidity, the ADS has an effective operating range in excess of 500m
(Danyalov, 2014). The ADS though is adversely affected by weather conditions, such as fog, rain,
snow, sleet, and dust storms. The rain, fog, snow and sleet all reduce the range and effectiveness of
the beam by absorbing the radiation it produces. The dust storm reduces the range of the ADS, not
by absorbing the radiation, but by deflecting and dispersing it. Both of these situations mean that
the full power of the ray is no longer reaching its intended target, which may moderate the ADS s
sensation to warm and comfortable (Cumming, 2010). Along with aspects of the environment
blocking the device, it can be countered by very reflective material such as aluminium foil
(Cumming, 2010). Along with aluminium foil, a defence of sprinklers that produce a fine mist,
similar to fire defence systems found on rural homes, could be used to counter the

Throughout the history of the United States, illegal immigrants have come from all over the
world to find work and a better way of life. It is estimated that right now there are about seven
million illegal aliens living in America. About 69% of these illegal immigrants are Mexican and
over 283,000 of them live in Arizona1. In this paper, we presuppose that the illegal aliens we refer
to are Mexican. This is because the aliens living in the geographic area around the day labor center
we examine are over 99%

Background of Day Labor
3
These circumstances have lead to the reemergence of a concept that has existed for a long time:
day labor. Day labor used to be geared more towards American citizens looking for temporary jobs,
but has now taken a new turn in order to fit the necessities of illegal workers. Day labor is defined
as a practice of searching for work in open air, informal markets such as street corners or in formal
temp agencies ( Work, 307).
Under this type of labor, the undocumented immigrant is considered an independent contractor or a
temporary domestic worker, and therefore employers are not obliged to ask for work authorization
( Work, 325). Day labor is extremely beneficial to aliens in that it allows immigrants to enter the
work force without being required to have legal immigration status.
There are two types of day labor industries: informal and formal. Informal day labor consists
mostly of men gathering on street corners or parking lots to solicit work. It is considered
informal because it is in no way regulated. The men are often picked up by passing cars and hired
for the day on terms worked out between the employer and the laborer. By contrast, the formal
day labor industry is connected to for profit temp agencies. These agencies place workers in
specific manual jobs and take a percentage of the workers

Summary Of To Techers By Rabindranath Tagore
Within the works of, To Techers, by Rabindranath Tagore, the reader is introduced to Tagore s
personal story of why he created his school. Tagore is a man who believed that the current
educational system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child
receives when learning from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when
he was a child. However, He describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only
way for him to escape was to finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the
educational system, he had created his own school, where students would learn in a natural
atmosphere. To do this, he implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different
seasons, and brought in musicians to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced
his own songs and writings to show his students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed
that schooling should not be a prison, but a way for many to come together and understand other
s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a university, but a meeting place for students of
all countries and religions to come together to find spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in
mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a
great meeting place for individuals from all countries where men who believe in spiritual unity can

The Distribution Of The Ornate Limpet
Biology report
Aim of this investigation
The aim of this investigation is to look at the distribution of the ornate limpet, (Cellana Ornata) and
the radiate limpet (Cellana Radians) on the rocky shore. We went to the rocky shore of Sirens
rocks between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay, on Wellington s South Coast. We are studying how our
chosen organisms affect each other s distribution patterns. We sampled in the low tidezone, mid
tide zone, and high tide zone. The rocky shore we explored was 80 metre long, rocky terrain, bare
rock platforms with rock gulley s.
Description of limpets
Limpets have conical shells. The limpets that are situated higher up on the shore tend to have taller
shells than those on the lower shore. The underside of the limpet has a muscular foot on which the
limpet moves around on.
Identification of organisms
Radiate limpets are identified by their flatter shells than the ornate limpet shells. Radiate limpets
can have 20 25 smooth low radial ribs. In the North Island the ribs are more indistinct and maybe
absent, the shell has radial streaks of brown and white. In the South Island the shells are dark grey
with fine radial lines. Ornate limpets are identified by their radiating black bands with a row of
white specks.
Biology of organisms
An ecological niche refers to an organism s way of life where it lives, its habitat, how it lives there
and its adaptions. The radiate limpet lives in the low tide zone of the rocky platforms whereas the

The Challenges to Henry VII Security Between 1487 and the end of 1499 Henry VII faced many
challenges to his throne from 1487 to the end of 1499. These included many rebellions and
pretenders to his throne. To what extent was the success he dealt with them differs although the
overriding answer is that by the end of his reign he had secured his throne and set up a dynasty,
with all challengers removed. Lambert Simnel challenged Henry s security when Richard
Symonds passed him off as Warwick. Simnel was taken to Ireland, which had become the centre
of Yorkist plotting. Margaret of Burgundy provided money and an army of 2000 mercenaries.
They landed in Ireland in May 1487. Henry paraded the real... Show more content on

The success of the win was therefore undermined, as he did not have the full loyalty of his men
at the battlefield. However, all in all, by using a large army to deal with the rebels demonstrated
to other challengers the strength Henry had at his hands and this must surely be a success.
Simnel was put to work in the royal kitchens. This was a successful way of dealing with Simnel
as it showed Henry to be a merciful and forgiving man. Henry called a Parliament in November
1487. The nobles and gentry who had supported the rebellion were attainted and their lands were
confiscated by the crown. This was successful as it made examples of these men to warn off other
contenders or rebels. In addition, by attainting them and confiscating their lands, this meant that if a
noble was to get involved in a rebellion not only would he be affected but so too would his family,
heir and subjects. This was surely a lot more threatening then death. Henry quickly tried to mend
relations with Maximilian. A new treaty in January 1488 restored friendly relations with close
trading ties between England and Burgundy. As soon as Henry found out about the Simnel
conspiracy he

  • 2. Socrates And Plato s Views On The Society Socrates had different views from the Athenians. He believed that democracy wouldn t work in their society, nor in any society. He doesn t believe that the people are capable of governing themselves. Socrates and Plato believed that the common man was too stupid, to say the least, to govern him/herself and to have a say in society. Socrates was in pursuit or truth his entire life. In his eyes, how could he let someone have the capabilities to make their own decisions with the potential for an error to occur. He was for a philosopher kings because they could at least imagine what absolute truth looked like and hopefully bring it to the people. It s not that Socrates thought everyone was idiotic, he just didn t want anything to stop him on his pursuit of finding truth. He already was upset enough that the world was constanly changing. He didn t want another human error to change his perception and rationality to one thing that he almost found the truth in. He favored a shepherd becasue that person was there to watch over and protect the sheep. He could make decisions for the sheep and guide the sheep to stay out of trouble, find food and shelter, and to spend their days meandering through the meadows. This is a great analogy, but then again the shepherd why would the shepherd being tending to the flock without some sort of compensation in it for him. • 3. Perception And Scale Are Permanently Bonded As human beings it sometimes appears that we are subject to our psychology as opposed to having control over it. Almost every decision we make, every thought that crosses our minds, every emotion that affects us has been created by an invisible process by our brain, a brain that doesn t feel the need to explain its reasoning to us. Whether or not God exists, it is clear that we are beholden to forces we do not, and can not control. This was something I felt more than ever in our past couple weeks of humanities. In this time I learned that perception and scale are permanently bonded. It is only by coming to grips with scale up close, and far away that we may find balance in our perspective. We need to see things from far away to understand them, but it is by looking at them up close that we make them feel humanand real. Without either of these perspectives we stunt our potential understanding as learners, as thinkers, and as people who understand what it means to be alive as humans. It is sometimes hard to see the point of looking at things up close. Why would we deliberately miss so much of the picture by focusing on just one small piece of it? I believe that an up close viewpoint is important to maintain to prevent psychic numbing and to maintain the humanity of events that we have no direct connection with. When learning about the history of the universe and of life zooming out too much can prevent you from empathizing with people from history. We have a tendency as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because of this undertreatment, many patients have begun to self medicate with other measures to alleviate their symptoms. Some turn to alcohol, some to prescription drugs, and others to cannabisin one form or another. Some of these means are regulated more than others and some of these cause problems in themselves. Included in the fiscal note for Senate Bill 386, it states that it costs the state of West Virginia an average of $27,684 per year for incarcerated individuals. • 5. Red Emma Song Review Essay The song Red Emma uses a trumpet, guitar, drums, tambourine, and it sounds like a maraca is used occasionally. The trumpet opens with a melody and then plays a similar melody at the end of the song. There are solo improvisations from the trumpet, guitar, and drums. The drummer and guitarist play improvised melodies underneath the trumpeter for most of the song, except when they take their solos. During the solo improvisations, the instruments that are not soloing are playing melodies underneath the improvisation. Technically, there is no rhythm section because the drums and guitarplay improvised melodies throughout the song. The drummer does keep a rhythm and follows a structure that is established by the trumpeter. The trumpet adds tone color by playing across the range from low to high and adjusting pitch. The guitar changes the tone by playing different chords that have a low and high pitch. The drummer adds colorations by using cymbals and playing different drums to alter pitch. The song uses an A B C D form that is not consistent throughout the song. This song is very different from anything that I have ever listened to. This upbeat and fast tempo song has an excited feel about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both songs use different instrumentation, except for the drums. Red Emma draws from Eastern European influences and Miami draws from African, South America, Cuban, and Caribbean influences. In many emerging markets, a number of studies have also emerged which examine whether the initiatives of corporate governance have led to an improvement in the quality of financial reporting and whether these initiatives have been effective in tackling the problem of earnings management. Shen and Chih (2007), for example, find in nine Asian countries that firms with good corporate governance tend to conduct less earnings management. Also, In India, Sarkar et al. • 7. Siege of Cawnpore The Siege of Cawnpore was an important part of the Indian rebellion of 1857.When Nana Sahib captured Cawnpore (now Kanpur) British forces surrendered to him and in turn he promised them a safe passage to Allahabad. Unfortunately their evacuation had turned into a massacre during which most of them were killed. It was indeed an unpleasant event of siege of Kanpur. Kanpur was an important garrison town situated on the Grand Trunk Road and Grand Trunk Canal beside the river Ganges and lay on the approaches to Punjab, Sind and Oudh provinces. In 1857, British ruled two thirds of India through East India Company. The remaining part of the country was under the control of Princes with whom the British had an alliance. During siege the British felt that the magazine situated in the northern part of Cawnpore was the most suitable defensive place for them to stay. It had thick walls, ample ammunition and stores and also hosted the local treasury. But General Wheeler decided to take refuge in the southern part of the city, in an entrenchment that was composed of two barracks surrounded by a mud wall. This area didn t have proper sanitary facilities. It had only one well. There were several buildings overlooking the entrenchment which would provide cover for the attackers. There were many other safe places in Cawnpore but General Wheeler s choice of choosing this place stands still controversial. He might have expected the reinforcements to arrive from the southern part of the city. He might have also assumed that, in case of a rebellion, the Indian troops would probably collect their arms, ammunition and money and would head to Delhi and therefore, he did not expect such a long siege. After three weeks of siege, the British started facing the difficulties. The summers were very hot. Many died due to sunstroke. They were short of ammunition as they had to face successive bombardments, snip fire and assaults from Nana Sahib s side. Their food supplies were getting exhausted and they had to face starvation. People were becoming sick and they were deprived of medical facilities. In such a situation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the The Old Man ain t afraid of Hell (The) in the hurricane is afraid of his wife as she nags him for speeding. Unnamed Mrs. Mitty continues to command her husband even insisting that he wear gloves. Walter, upset, purposely takes off the gloves at a red light. Thurber had a troublesome marriage with Althea; Walter is constantly being controlled by Mrs. Mitty. Because of Mrs. Mitty s nagging and imposing influence seen in paragraphs 3 and 4, Walter is triggered into a daydream. As a world famous surgeon, he not only is in control of his life, but the life of his patient. Mitty cleverly adapts to emergencies like using a fountain pen to fix the needed surgical machinery (The). Every time he escapes, it is because of a trigger, often through an authority figure imposing on him. In fact, it is the clear distinction between fantasy and reality that makes escaping a theme. The heavy juxtaposition between diction of the dream world and real life is evident. For example, in the second daydream as a surgeon, Dr. Mitty snapped at fellow doctors and nurses to give him a fountain pen and uses fake yet complicated sounding medical terms such as Obstreosis of the ductal tract (The). However, in the subsequent paragraph as Walter clumsily almost hits another car in the parking lot in reality, he only muttered in response to the valet, unable to give a definitive reply. The dramatic juxtaposition between Mitty s spectacular fantasies and mundane reality drives the story. Thurber highlights Mitty s desperateness for action through the drastic differences in scenes. Also, Thurber distinguishes daydreams by incorporating much more imperative voice and literary devices compared to straight dialogue in the reality. Thurber literally makes the fantasies more alive and interesting than boring reality. Onomatopoeia is seen in 3 of the 5 daydreams, ta pocketa pocketa... in paragraph 1 for the hydroplane and the same sound for the surgical machine (The). The key issues that the authors seek to address this week, are when lobbying occurs, the nature of lobbying, and how it works. Overall, there is some agreement on the fact that lobbying is prevalent, the disagreements arise over what purpose lobbyingserves, and what the strategies underlying lobbying are. One key debate among the authors is what is actually influenced by lawmaking. On one hand, Hansen (1991) takes the perspective that lobbying influences the relationship between interest groups and lawmakers. Hansen bases his argument on the belief that because legislators want to be reelected and they lack information about the issue preferences of their constituents, the salience of issues to their constituents, and the effectiveness of various policy options, they will seek information to reduce this uncertainty. The service that interest groups provide the, is this information. Certain interest groups, Hansen argues have competitive advantage, (p. 13) in the sense that they can provide certainty about constituent beliefs in an efficient and effective manner, in order to help lawmakers get reelected. Given that elections re occur, an additional point Hansen makes is for interest groups to have some kind of influence over lawmakers, the conditions that provide this competitive advantage must be expected to recur. When Is Human Cloning Wrong In February 1997, the scientific world was forever changed by the announcement of the birth of Dolly the Sheep, the first mammal cloned from an adult cell (Jones 160). For the first time in medical history, science allowed for the possibility of human cloning. With this development came the concern that scientists would not only speculate about humancloning, but actually seek to attempt it. Such a prospect generates ethical unease from both the public and Christian community. From a Christian perspective, human cloning creates concerns for the well being of a cloned child or embryo and usurps God s plan for human dominion. Although some may argue that using an embryo for medicine is not murder, therapeutic cloning create embryos (the very first stage of humanness) for the sole purpose of harvesting the stem cells, thus ending the budding life of said embryo. This process certainly reflects a form of killing, even if it is only the destruction of an incredibly early human form. Additionally, taking advantage of human embryos disobeys Jesus command to love one another (NIV Bible, John 13:34). Jones states that therapeutic cloning [undermines] the welfare and dignity of human embryos, which as the weakest and most vulnerable of human beings should under no circumstances be experimented upon (174). • 16. The Encoding of Contextual Fear Conditioning The formation of new memories requires protein synthesis dependent changes in synaptic structure and plasticity in the hippocampus. Studies in humans and animals suggest that these memories are initially stored in hippocampus but later transferred to cortex for permanent storage. This phenomenon is described as systems consolidation of memories. While the specific role for new proteinsynthesis in hippocampus in early encoding of memories is established, whether protein synthesis in medial prefrontal cortex play a major role in encoding of memories is unclear. To address this question, we used contextual fear conditioning (CFC) of mouse, a behavior training that induce long lasting memories. A single training session produces robust lifelong memory(8) that can be measured using automated procedures (9). Several studies have used CFC training as a model to study hippocampal cortical communications and mechanisms underlying systems consolidation of memories. Contextual fear memories are initially stored in hippocampus and then moved to medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) for long term storage. We assume that if encoding of contextual fear memories require protein synthesis at both hippocampus and PFC, we will be able to identify translationally active mRNAs in hippocampus and PFC. Because RNAs associated with polyribosomes indicate translational activation, we first isolated polyribosomes from mPFC and hippocampus at two time points (one hour and six hours, hereafter T1 and T2 ... Singleton Vs State Of Arkansas Essay Singleton vs. State of Arkansas: Psychiatric Medications on Death Row Jennifer Wallace PHIL 447 Thinking Week 1 Chamberlain College of Nursing Abstract On February 11, 2003, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the State of Arkansas could force death row prisoner Charles Laverne Singleton to take antipsychotic drugs to make him sane enough to execute. Singleton was to be executed for felony capital murder but became insane while in prison (Kaczynski, 2011). However, this touches on the legal and ethical issues of a patient s competence, autonomy, and insight as well as the physician s responsibility to uphold the American Medical Association s Code of Ethics which states a physician, as a member of a profession dedicated to preserving life when there is hope of doing so, should not be a participant in a legally authorized execution (Eisenberg, 2004). By giving the antipsychotic medication to Mr. Singleton, the physician would be indirectly participating in his execution, which would violate the Code of Ethics. Believing the purpose of theater is, to hold, as twere, the mirror up to nature; to show virtue her own feature, [and] scorn her own image (3.2.22 24) Hamlet uses the troupe of actors to perform his father s murder in order to expose Claudius guilt and justify the revenge his father asked of him. The book describes the skill of playing the game in Washington and how to be successful at it. The different tactics provided in the book hold a lot of knowledge that would make the life of anyone following these strategies much easier when trying to get ahead in life. • 33. Active Denial System Paper Active Denial System The Active Denial System (ADS) is an electromagnetic, directed energy, non lethal weapon designed by the US military and built by Raytheon (Cumming, 2010). The ADS works by producing 95GHz electromagnetic radiation that is focused in a beam at a target (Wikipedia, 2014). These 3.2mm electromagnetic waves work on the same principal as a microwave oven. The waves excite water and fat molecules instantly heating them through dielectric heating (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to the extremely high frequency of these waves, the energy from them is absorbed in within the first 0.4mm of skin, meaning they do not affect vital organs, blood vessels or nerve endings (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to these attributes, and the results of numerous studies, in which the worst injury inflicted by the ADS were pea sized blisters, with a 1 in 1000 chance of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This becomes a major problem when there is a large amount of water in the environment. In a situation with low humidity, the ADS has an effective operating range in excess of 500m (Danyalov, 2014). The ADS though is adversely affected by weather conditions, such as fog, rain, snow, sleet, and dust storms. The rain, fog, snow and sleet all reduce the range and effectiveness of the beam by absorbing the radiation it produces. The dust storm reduces the range of the ADS, not by absorbing the radiation, but by deflecting and dispersing it. Both of these situations mean that the full power of the ray is no longer reaching its intended target, which may moderate the ADS s sensation to warm and comfortable (Cumming, 2010). Along with aspects of the environment blocking the device, it can be countered by very reflective material such as aluminium foil (Cumming, 2010). Along with aluminium foil, a defence of sprinklers that produce a fine mist, similar to fire defence systems found on rural homes, could be used to counter the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Background of Day Labor 3 These circumstances have lead to the reemergence of a concept that has existed for a long time: day labor. Day labor used to be geared more towards American citizens looking for temporary jobs, but has now taken a new turn in order to fit the necessities of illegal workers. Day labor is defined as a practice of searching for work in open air, informal markets such as street corners or in formal temp agencies ( Work, 307). Under this type of labor, the undocumented immigrant is considered an independent contractor or a temporary domestic worker, and therefore employers are not obliged to ask for work authorization ( Work, 325). Day labor is extremely beneficial to aliens in that it allows immigrants to enter the work force without being required to have legal immigration status. There are two types of day labor industries: informal and formal. Informal day labor consists mostly of men gathering on street corners or parking lots to solicit work. It is considered informal because it is in no way regulated. The men are often picked up by passing cars and hired for the day on terms worked out between the employer and the laborer. By contrast, the formal day labor industry is connected to for profit temp agencies. These agencies place workers in specific manual jobs and take a percentage of the workers ... • 40. Summary Of To Techers By Rabindranath Tagore Within the works of, To Techers, by Rabindranath Tagore, the reader is introduced to Tagore s personal story of why he created his school. Tagore is a man who believed that the current educational system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child receives when learning from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when he was a child. However, He describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only way for him to escape was to finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the educational system, he had created his own school, where students would learn in a natural atmosphere. To do this, he implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different seasons, and brought in musicians to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced his own songs and writings to show his students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed that schooling should not be a prison, but a way for many to come together and understand other s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a university, but a meeting place for students of all countries and religions to come together to find spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a great meeting place for individuals from all countries where men who believe in spiritual unity can come in touch with their neighbors, (Tagore 44). The Distribution Of The Ornate Limpet Biology report Aim of this investigation The aim of this investigation is to look at the distribution of the ornate limpet, (Cellana Ornata) and the radiate limpet (Cellana Radians) on the rocky shore. We went to the rocky shore of Sirens rocks between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay, on Wellington s South Coast. We are studying how our chosen organisms affect each other s distribution patterns. We sampled in the low tidezone, mid tide zone, and high tide zone. The rocky shore we explored was 80 metre long, rocky terrain, bare rock platforms with rock gulley s. Description of limpets Limpets have conical shells. The limpets that are situated higher up on the shore tend to have taller shells than those on the lower shore. The underside of the limpet has a muscular foot on which the limpet moves around on. Identification of organisms Radiate limpets are identified by their flatter shells than the ornate limpet shells. Radiate limpets can have 20 25 smooth low radial ribs. In the North Island the ribs are more indistinct and maybe absent, the shell has radial streaks of brown and white. In the South Island the shells are dark grey with fine radial lines. Ornate limpets are identified by their radiating black bands with a row of white specks. Biology of organisms An ecological niche refers to an organism s way of life where it lives, its habitat, how it lives there and its adaptions. The radiate limpet lives in the low tide zone of the rocky platforms whereas the ornate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Challenges to Henry VII Security Between 1487 and the end of 1499 Henry VII faced many challenges to his throne from 1487 to the end of 1499. These included many rebellions and pretenders to his throne. To what extent was the success he dealt with them differs although the overriding answer is that by the end of his reign he had secured his throne and set up a dynasty, with all challengers removed. Lambert Simnel challenged Henry s security when Richard Symonds passed him off as Warwick. Simnel was taken to Ireland, which had become the centre of Yorkist plotting. The success of the win was therefore undermined, as he did not have the full loyalty of his men at the battlefield. However, all in all, by using a large army to deal with the rebels demonstrated to other challengers the strength Henry had at his hands and this must surely be a success. Simnel was put to work in the royal kitchens. This was a successful way of dealing with Simnel as it showed Henry to be a merciful and forgiving man. Henry called a Parliament in November 1487. The nobles and gentry who had supported the rebellion were attainted and their lands were confiscated by the crown. This was successful as it made examples of these men to warn off other contenders or rebels. In addition, by attainting them and confiscating their lands, this meant that if a noble was to get involved in a rebellion not only would he be affected but so too would his family, heir and subjects. This was surely a lot more threatening then death. Henry quickly tried to mend relations with Maximilian. A new treaty in January 1488 restored friendly relations with close trading ties between England and Burgundy. As soon as Henry found out about the Simnel conspiracy he ...
