TYPE OF VIDEO
Narrative – There is a storyline of the man
riding his bike, he then has an accident
where he is put into hospital with serious
injuries. The video shows his recovery
and how eventually he achieves to ride
his bike again.
In the video, there is no performance to it
at all because of the two artists
(Rudimental and Ella Eyre) are not
featured.
RELATING TO GOODWIN’S THEORY
1. The music video has a narrative storyline which represents how it’s a
upbeat song. Rudimental normally stick to dance music which is partially
represented through the fast pace editing and storyline.
2. There is no relationship between the lyrics and the visuals. The lyrics are
very repetitive, which doesn’t help to tell a story. However you could argue,
that the repetitive lyrics represented his frustration of his accident.
3. There is a relationship between the music and the visuals as it is an upbeat
song which is represented by the adrenaline felt by the riders.
4. The artists aren’t in the music video which makes it hard for the audience
to link the visuals to the artists image. However you can argue that
rudimental stick to the same genre.
5. This music video is based around young males as they ‘freestyle ride’
around the town and parks which is stereotypically a more masculine
activity.
6. The music video has no link to any films or TV however it is based on true
story. A BMX champion called Kurt Yaeger who became an amputee after
an accident in 2006. The director of this video Nez Khammel approached
him and was interested to use the story in the video.
5 WAYS TO ANALYSE A VIDEO
1. In the later part of the song, the suspense builds as the music gradually quickens. In
this the visuals it shows him getting frustrated about not being successful in riding
his bike. As the beat picks up it shows him achieving his goal.
2. It is a narrative meaning you get the gist of what is trying to be explained. It is easy
to follow and you want to keep watching.
3. The artists aren’t featured in the video however you understand that they produce
they are trying to produce a meaningful video instead of focusing on the dance
genre.
4. We believe that they have chosen to promote there song through taking a genre
theme or mood and doing something a bit different, this is called amplifying.
5. The mise-en-scene
• Location: park, streets, hospital
• Colour: Quite dull however gets brighter when there's hope in the story
• Costume: they are all dressed in normal clothes (casual for people and uniform for
doctors), this helps establish who is who.
• Props: Bikes
• Performance: There is no dialogue but through there facial expression you can tell
their mood.
• Lighting: It is a very dull daylight lighting (ambient) at the start however when the
story starts to brighten, so does the lighting reflecting their feelings.
5. Mise-en-scene -

• Colour: Quite dull however gets brighter when there's hope in the story
• Costume: they are all dressed in normal clothes (casual for people and
uniform for doctors), this helps establish who is who.
• Props: Bikes

• Editing: They include many fast paced cuts and jump cuts to the new
scene. This helps the audience to keep up with the storyline.
• Cinematography: There are many close ups on their facial expressions
to help the audience relate to their feelings. At the beginning there are
establishing shots to clearly show the setting, and then they move onto
long shots when the man is knocked off his bike.
GENDER
There are no females in the video apart
from in
the hospital part. It is very male orientated
video
but still attracts a wide audience because
of the
true story and the emotion behind it.

Music video analysis

  • 2. TYPE OF VIDEO Narrative – There is a storyline of the man riding his bike, he then has an accident where he is put into hospital with serious injuries. The video shows his recovery and how eventually he achieves to ride his bike again. In the video, there is no performance to it at all because of the two artists (Rudimental and Ella Eyre) are not featured.
  • 3. RELATING TO GOODWIN’S THEORY 1. The music video has a narrative storyline which represents how it’s a upbeat song. Rudimental normally stick to dance music which is partially represented through the fast pace editing and storyline. 2. There is no relationship between the lyrics and the visuals. The lyrics are very repetitive, which doesn’t help to tell a story. However you could argue, that the repetitive lyrics represented his frustration of his accident. 3. There is a relationship between the music and the visuals as it is an upbeat song which is represented by the adrenaline felt by the riders. 4. The artists aren’t in the music video which makes it hard for the audience to link the visuals to the artists image. However you can argue that rudimental stick to the same genre. 5. This music video is based around young males as they ‘freestyle ride’ around the town and parks which is stereotypically a more masculine activity. 6. The music video has no link to any films or TV however it is based on true story. A BMX champion called Kurt Yaeger who became an amputee after an accident in 2006. The director of this video Nez Khammel approached him and was interested to use the story in the video.
  • 4. 5 WAYS TO ANALYSE A VIDEO 1. In the later part of the song, the suspense builds as the music gradually quickens. In this the visuals it shows him getting frustrated about not being successful in riding his bike. As the beat picks up it shows him achieving his goal. 2. It is a narrative meaning you get the gist of what is trying to be explained. It is easy to follow and you want to keep watching. 3. The artists aren’t featured in the video however you understand that they produce they are trying to produce a meaningful video instead of focusing on the dance genre. 4. We believe that they have chosen to promote there song through taking a genre theme or mood and doing something a bit different, this is called amplifying. 5. The mise-en-scene • Location: park, streets, hospital • Colour: Quite dull however gets brighter when there's hope in the story • Costume: they are all dressed in normal clothes (casual for people and uniform for doctors), this helps establish who is who. • Props: Bikes • Performance: There is no dialogue but through there facial expression you can tell their mood. • Lighting: It is a very dull daylight lighting (ambient) at the start however when the story starts to brighten, so does the lighting reflecting their feelings.

Mise-en-scene - • Location: park, streets, hospital • Colour: Quite dull however gets brighter when there's hope in the story • Costume: they are all dressed in normal clothes (casual for people and uniform for doctors), this helps establish who is who. • Props: Bikes • Performance: There is no dialogue but through there facial expression you can tell their mood. • Lighting: It is a very dull daylight lighting (ambient) at the start however when the story starts to brighten, so does the lighting reflecting their feelings. • Editing: They include many fast paced cuts and jump cuts to the new scene. This helps the audience to keep up with the storyline. • Cinematography: There are many close ups on their facial expressions to help the audience relate to their feelings. At the beginning there are establishing shots to clearly show the setting, and then they move onto long shots when the man is knocked off his bike.
  • 6. GENDER There are no females in the video apart from in the hospital part. It is very male orientated video but still attracts a wide audience because of the true story and the emotion behind it.
