Here is our teaser and theatrical
Film posters.
We decided to use existing media
conventions when creating our
posters to ensure our target audience
(18+) would be very aware of the horror
genre.

We used typical horror poster conventions
such as:
-The use of dark colours and shadows to
connote the fear of the unknown.
-Grainy blurred images.
-The demonic iconography.
-A large scary eye-catching image.

This horror film
poster is similar
to our own, with the
use of a grainy/
blurred image. This
convention is used
a lot in horror film
posters as it adheres
the idea of the
unknown.
Similarly to our film posters, we decided to stick to
conventions with our film magazine. This decision was made
to ensure that our target audience would be able to
acknowledge that this is a film magazine.

We followed the main conventions of ‘Premiere’ magazine.
We used a large bold masthead and used a main image of
the actor from our film trailer in smart clothing. The actor being
in smart clothing and not in their costume for the trailer,
connoted to our audience that they would be reading about
the actor behind the character.
As you can see we followed the style and layout of premiere
magazine. We stuck to conventions in order to create a good
professional looking film magazine.
We aimed to challenge as well as stick to conventions of horror in our trailer,
examples of this are as follows:
Sticking to conventions

Challenging conventions

The narrative included themes of witch
craft and fear of the unknown.

The use of a journal/spell book connotes
the idea of hybrid genre: a combination
between fantasy and horror which is
unusual.

Fast paced editing and hand held camera
shots.

Horror trailers usually have a frantic
orchestra sound to them, we challenged
this with our soundtrack as we reversed a
happy upbeat song at the climax of the
trailer, this anchored the sense of
confusion within our audience.

Forrest location. Similar to ‘Blair witch
project’.

The happy music and scary trailer could
slightly contradict itself as humans strive
for consistency and would feel confused
and un easy with the combination of
happy music with a scary action and
climax.

Extreme close ups to cause confusion as
the whole object is not clear.

  • 2. Here is our teaser and theatrical Film posters. We decided to use existing media conventions when creating our posters to ensure our target audience (18+) would be very aware of the horror genre. We used typical horror poster conventions such as: -The use of dark colours and shadows to connote the fear of the unknown. -Grainy blurred images. -The demonic iconography. -A large scary eye-catching image. This horror film poster is similar to our own, with the use of a grainy/ blurred image. This convention is used a lot in horror film posters as it adheres the idea of the unknown.
  • 3. Similarly to our film posters, we decided to stick to conventions with our film magazine. This decision was made to ensure that our target audience would be able to acknowledge that this is a film magazine. We followed the main conventions of ‘Premiere’ magazine. We used a large bold masthead and used a main image of the actor from our film trailer in smart clothing. The actor being in smart clothing and not in their costume for the trailer, connoted to our audience that they would be reading about the actor behind the character. As you can see we followed the style and layout of premiere magazine. We stuck to conventions in order to create a good professional looking film magazine.

We aimed to challenge as well as stick to conventions of horror in our trailer, examples of this are as follows: Sticking to conventions Challenging conventions The narrative included themes of witch craft and fear of the unknown. The use of a journal/spell book connotes the idea of hybrid genre: a combination between fantasy and horror which is unusual. Fast paced editing and hand held camera shots. Horror trailers usually have a frantic orchestra sound to them, we challenged this with our soundtrack as we reversed a happy upbeat song at the climax of the trailer, this anchored the sense of confusion within our audience. Forrest location. Similar to ‘Blair witch project’. The happy music and scary trailer could slightly contradict itself as humans strive for consistency and would feel confused and un easy with the combination of happy music with a scary action and climax. Extreme close ups to cause confusion as the whole object is not clear.
