It outlines key tasks such as location scouting, equipment needs, personnel requirements, and visual planning through concept boards, storyboarding, and shot listing. The document instructs students to complete sections on their production outline, locations, equipment, facilities, personnel, props, and to develop a structural breakdown, storyboard, and shot list for the visual elements of their music video. Students are given templates and guidance to help them thoroughly plan their music video project before going into production.
- The music video will tell the story of a girl imagining herself in a relationship with a guy who barely knows her.
- It will use different locations in Leeds and switch between scenes of them together and the girl alone in her bedroom writing in her diary.
- The video will have an "old school" visual effect to portray the girl's fantasies and will include changes in lighting and costumes between casual everyday outfits.
- Storyboarding and shot lists will be used to plan sequencing and visualize how the visuals relate to the song. Inspiration boards exploring color, lighting, and "mise-en-scene" will also help develop the concept.
Here are some concept boards and pre-visualization ideas for the music video:
- Opening shots of the city at night with neon lights and old school filter to set the scene
- Close up shots of the characters looking happy and in love with each other
- Split screen shots showing both characters together exploring the city holding hands
- Establishing shots of outdoor locations like parks, streets without people to show them alone
- Indoor shots of them dancing together intimately in dimly lit rooms
- Close ups of them writing in notebooks or on phones to show their connection
- Gradual changes in lighting and filters to transition from reality to the girl's imagination
- Ending shots of the girl alone
Here are 3 concept boards summarizing the key visual elements planned for the music video:
[CONCEPT BOARD 1]
- Opening establishing shots of nightlife in Leeds to set the location
- Old school film effect to portray the relationship as the girl imagines it
- Changes in lighting from dark nighttime scenes to brighter indoor scenes

The document proposes three music video ideas for songs:
1) "Six Billion" by Nothing But Thieves, about a psychopathic male character stalking a woman. Shots would imply loss but reveal his stalking.
2) "No Answers" by Amber Run, about a divorcing couple. Scenes would flip between their angry phone call and memories of their toxic relationship.
3) "Silk" by Wolf Alice, about a depressed woman who loves her friend, but finds out at a meeting the friend is engaged. Shots imply her daily sadness and reaction to the revelation.
Here are my suggestions for improving the visual planning:
- Add more description for each scene beyond just the lyrics. Describe camera angles, shots, lighting, locations, wardrobe, props, etc. This will help with planning the production.
- Consider including establishing shots at the beginning of locations to better set the scene.
- Pace the cuts according to the song's structure (slower during verses, faster during choruses). Don't cut on every line.
- Vary shot types (close-ups, mid-shots, long shots) to keep it visually interesting.
- Overlapping action between cuts can help with flow and continuity.
- Consider showing the character's emotional journey

The student plans to create a music video interpretation of the song "Do I Wanna Know?" by Arctic Monkeys. They will film close up and high angle shots of instruments being played at a music room in their college. Wide shots of a city at night, either York or using a green screen, will also be included. Transitions between scenes will be fast cuts synced to the beat of the song. The video will have a greyscale color scheme to match the romantic and potentially heartbroken theme of the song. Concerns include disruption while filming in public and unpredictable weather, but the student plans to schedule filming to avoid these issues.
This document provides a summary of a student's music video project plan. The student will create a music video for the song "Stressed Out" by 21 Pilots. They plan to film shots of themselves walking around different locations with smooth transitions. They have identified college and their hometown of Knaresborough as filming locations. They will use a DSLR camera, tripod, lights, and other equipment from college. They created a storyboard and schedule to storyboard their ideas and plan filming and editing over 3 weeks. Risk assessments and contingency plans were also included to plan for potential issues.

The second idea is for the song "Jocelyn Flores" by XXXTENTACION and would portray the song through a scenic, artistic video. The third idea is for the song "All Girls Are The Same" by Juice WRLD and would keep the psychedelic, blurry style of the original video. Strengths and weaknesses of the ideas are discussed. The final selection is "Sad!" by XXXTENTACION, with a concept of slow, scenic shots to match the sad
The document outlines initial plans for a music video project, including selecting a song, generating three ideas employing different styles and techniques, and providing additional relevant information. Seven potential songs are listed. The first idea involves a slow-paced video for a slow song using long shots in a gloomy environment. The second idea is more upbeat to match faster songs, using many shots. The third mixes elements of the first two ideas. Strengths and weaknesses of the ideas are discussed. The final idea focuses on interpreting EDEN's "Gold" mysteriously without a clear story. Research targets are outlined regarding editing techniques, shot locations, and analyzing other similar music videos.
Here are some potential research targets for your music video project:
- Locations scouting - Research beaches or other outdoor locations near you that would work well for shooting. Consider permits, accessibility, scenery, etc.
- Cinematography techniques - Research shots like spinning cameras, drone shots, timelapses that you want to include. Learn proper technique and equipment needed.
- Editing styles - Research editing conventions for music videos. Consider pacing, timing cuts to music, transitions between scenes.
- Props and wardrobe - Research what props you need like mirrors, costumes, accessories. Consider rentals vs purchases.
- Safety protocols - Research safety guidelines for equipment, locations, stunts. Get proper
This document contains a student's initial plans for generating music video ideas based on different songs. The student provides three initial ideas for interpreting songs using different techniques. The first idea is for the song "Brother" by Mac Demarco and would show a character feeling trapped by their job through still footage contrasted with lively younger footage. The second idea is for the song "Shadows" by Childish Gambino and would use different filming techniques to portray the changing tone of the song. The third idea is for the song "100 Days, 100 Nights" by Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and would use split screens to show the breakdown of a relationship over time. The student identifies strengths and weaknesses of their ideas and
The document provides initial plans and ideas for three music videos. The first idea is for the song "Water" by Jack Garratt and involves shots of the singer in the rain with the rain freezing and going upwards. The second idea is for "Monster" by Imagine Dragons and depicts a person being chased by inner demons. The third idea is for "Song 2" by Blur and mainly shows the band playing with bright colors and varying camera shots. Strengths and weaknesses of the ideas are discussed. The document then focuses on developing the idea for "Song 2" with details about the song, band, and a final idea that mirrors Blur's original video with coverage of punk style conventions and filming techniques. Potential
The document provides initial plans for a music video project interpreting the song "When the Sun Goes Down" by Arctic Monkeys. The proposed video would portray the song's message about a man mistreating a woman through close-up shots showing the characters in a gloomy, dark tone to match the negative theme of the song. Key shots and pacing would align with the lyrics and shifting tempo. Strengths include achievable shots and clear linking of ideas to the song, while weaknesses could include limitations of public filming and editing challenges.
The document discusses considerations for creating a music video for the genre of electronic rock. It outlines conventions for lighting, editing, and genre in electronic rock music videos. Common lighting uses darker colors and everyone appears equal. Editing typically uses tripod camera movements with close-up shots and fast scene transitions. Genre conventions show little movement from subjects. The document also discusses setting, props, and iconography that align with the song's lyrics to help tell the story and create effect.
The document outlines three initial ideas for music videos based on different songs. Idea one would use a slow song and slow pacing with long shots in a gloomy environment. Idea two would be more upbeat to match faster songs, using many shots changing to the beat. Idea three would mix fast pacing with sad tones to interpret its song. Strengths include using local areas and a variety of shots, while weaknesses involve long song lengths, limited camera experience, and unfavorable weather.
The document provides guidance for a music video assignment, including researching existing music videos for inspiration. It outlines tasks for idea generation, including mind mapping potential song choices, camera techniques, conventions of musical genres, and restrictions to consider. The selected track is "Ratchet" by Bloc Party, described as an upbeat indie rock song combining elements of hip hop. The proposed concept is to create an engaging video that complements the energetic pace and style of the song through creative imagery and genre conventions.
This document provides guidance for a music video assignment. It includes sections for idea generation, research, pre-production assessment, visual planning and storyboarding. The student has selected the song "There She Goes" by The La's for their music video. Their idea is to create an aesthetic video featuring a girl getting away from something. Shots will include the girl and friends in locations like parks and streets. Pre-production planning addresses the equipment, locations, facilities and personnel needed. A storyboard is included with 13 shots planned to match the structure and pace of the song.
The document outlines Ewan Wild's initial plans for generating music video ideas interpreting different songs. It provides 3 potential ideas for music videos analyzing the meaning of songs by Easy Life, Bring Me The Horizon, and Shinedown. The ideas explore using techniques like repetitive shots to depict insomnia for "Nightmares" and fighting children to represent enemies. Strengths and weaknesses are noted for each. The document concludes by outlining a final idea for "Nightmares" showing progressively worsening insomnia through masking techniques over repetitive days. Research targets include locations, fake blood, and filming/editing techniques from other music videos.
This document provides guidance for a pre-production assessment for a music video assignment. The student has selected the song "Hell and Back" by Bakar as their track. Their idea is to capture the chill mood and positive tone of the song. They plan to shoot in York for its urban and retro feel. Locations mentioned include parks, tunnels, and graffiti walls. The technical equipment needed is a camera, lenses, battery, and laptop for editing. A breakdown of the song lyrics is also provided to analyze the message and story being conveyed.
This document provides a visual planning template for a music video assignment, with the student outlining their plans to create a video for the song "Robbery" by Juice WRLD. They break down the structure of the song into sections, and for each section (introduction, verses, chorus) they describe the lyrics and their initial ideas for visuals that relate to the song's meaning and their own personal experiences with breakups. Locations, equipment needs, and using family members as crew are also discussed to demonstrate pre-production planning for the project.

To summarize the research:
Fanzines are publications made by enthusiasts about a particular topic like music or films. They are used to express feelings and share art, research, and findings. The document provides examples of fanzine covers from different genres and highlights design elements like images, fonts, colors, and layout. It also notes that digital fanzines can be customized online. Examining fanzine covers in the genre of drum and bass music provided ideas for an energetic, colorful design for a music-focused fanzine.
- The document discusses applying auteur theory to analyze the work of photographer Annie Leibovitz. Auteur theory argues that a director's artistic vision is reflected in their films, and the document extends this to photography.
- Annie Leibovitz is known for her intimate celebrity portraits for magazines like Rolling Stone. Her photos are recognizable for carefully staged settings, superb lighting, and use of blues and greens.
- The document analyzes two of her famous photos - one of actress Jessica Chastain as Merida from Brave, and another official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. These exemplify her signature style of capturing personality through composition, lighting, and limited color palette.
This document contains a UAL progression proforma for the 2022-23 academic year. It includes the student's academic history, current study details, and future goals. Elinor created a clothing brand and promotional materials for her final major project. In her reflective diary, she discusses her initial plans, research process, production experiments, challenges faced, and final outcomes. Some highlights included enjoying creating her mood board and analyzing inspiration brands. Her disposable camera photos did not turn out as hoped, so she used iPhone photos instead. Feedback led to changes in her magazine poster design. Overall, she found the project enjoyable and a good introduction to her future career interests.
Elinor Prince, a student at York College, is proposing a graphic design and photography project to create a clothing brand called Notion Clothing. She will design a logo, print it on shirts, and advertise the brand on social media and posters created in Photoshop. Elinor will research local print shops, font styles, and photo shoot locations. She plans to use a disposable camera to achieve an "old school" look for photographs of models wearing the clothing, which will be featured on the posters. Elinor will evaluate her work through a weekly reflective journal, peer feedback, and by analyzing her project's strengths and weaknesses.
Elinor Prince proposes a final project for her graphic design and photography course where she will create her own clothing brand called "Notion Clothing". She will design a logo, print it on shirts, and promote the brand on social media and posters created in Photoshop. Elinor will research local print shops and font options for the logo. She will also research locations to photograph models in the clothing. To evaluate her work, Elinor will keep a weekly reflective journal and create an evaluation presentation analyzing her strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. She believes this ongoing and final self-reflection will help develop her skills for further study and career in media.
A student has been tasked with creating a media project for their final assignment. They plan to make a music video for the song "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus and a corresponding album cover. They will storyboard and film scenes in Leeds to depict the locations mentioned in the song lyrics. The student has provided documentation of their initial proposal, pre-production planning including location recces, costumes, shot lists and schedules. They will spend 4 weeks in production filming and editing the music video before providing a written evaluation of their project.
The document provides research on target audiences for a music video, including analyzing survey responses that found older participants watched more music videos than younger ones from the 90s/2000s, and examining existing music videos to identify common features like showing the band performing and using fast cuts. The research will help ensure the new music video appeals to audiences who enjoyed past rock/pop genres as well as younger viewers.
Hannah Stockill conducted research and produced a music video, album cover, and posters for a band. Peer feedback noted that the video had a vintage aesthetic and fast pacing that worked well. Improvements could be made by varying shot lengths, adding transitions, and ensuring consistency in color grading between elements. Hannah agrees some color grading could be improved but disagrees that shot lengths were issues, as they matched the song's beat and style. Overall, feedback affirmed Hannah's editing skills and pacing matched the music well.
The student spent the first three lessons designing their album cover by gathering and arranging images. They had some difficulties successfully transferring video clips from their phone to their computer for the music video post-production, so they began downloading them one at a time to ensure they all transferred. Later, the student made progress editing their music video and was halfway through the song, making them confident they could finish on time despite some lost editing time from computer issues.
The document provides an evaluation of the production process for a fashion brand project. It summarizes the research, planning, time management, technical qualities, aesthetic qualities, audience appeal, and peer feedback stages. For research, the document discusses surveying target audiences and researching competitor brands. For planning, it mentions creating shot lists and scripts. It notes challenges with sticking to schedules. For technical qualities, it analyzes video editing and magazine design elements. Peer feedback suggested including shots of both models and improving the magazine masthead. The document agrees with this feedback and aims to make these changes for future improvements.
This project will create a music video and CD cover for the song "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus. The student chose this project to showcase their video editing and image editing skills which they have practiced in Photoshop and Premiere Pro. They want to pursue a career in post-production and feel this project will provide experience in both video and images. The music video will have a 1990s/early 2000s vibe through the use of video camera-style shots and depictions of the band members lip-syncing and playing instruments. The goal is to create an eye-catching product that advertises the song while maintaining the expectations of the music's fanbase.
The document provides details for the pre-production of a photo shoot and video project. Locations for photos will be outdoor urban areas in Leeds, including car parks, staircases with graffiti, and alleyways. Equipment needed includes phones, disposable cameras, video cameras, paper and t-shirts for logo design. Facilities for printing and editing photos and videos will also be used. Two models (one male, one female) will be used, and health and safety precautions will be taken when shooting in car parks and on stairs. A schedule is provided laying out locations, cast and crew on specific dates.

employing styles, techniques and conventions
that we have looked at in previous sessions.
Explore how you could interpret the song
differently using different methods
You can add any extra info you think is
relevant, images, mind maps, etc

5. RESEARCH
Watch a selection of videos to get your ideas started,
make note of a minimum of 5 – add extra slides,
screenshot the video and in bullet point note down info
in terms of camera, editing, art design, performance, etc
and how this might link to your production
Hint!
You’ve already done this in
your case study, so you can
summarise that here where
relevant
6. ANIMALS-MAROON 5
• Dark lighting
• Stalker vibes
• Inappropriate
pictures of the
woman
• Quite rare to
have a darkroom
in these times.
3rd person view of him
following the girl.
Daylight, quite a few people
around him.
Have a similar fashion sense,
maybe he did this to catch
her attention.
The name of the song is
animals and there is some
scenes like this one here
of meat hanging down
and it creates like a
horror/thriller effect. It
makes you wonder is this
linked and the reason for
the song name?
Camera angles: switch
between close up and wide
shots.
Constantly switching from
the woman to the
stalker/singer.
There's a lyric in the song
that says “I'm preying on
you tonight” which could
link to the song name that
she is the animal getting
preyed on- woman getting
7. MAPS-MAROON 5
• Dramatic start- shouting at the hospital
• Explicit scenes, first person view from both people- one in the hospital bed shows
how she has a blurry view, second person view is him being panicky and
breathing heavily because of what happened.
• Scenes of partying, dark lighting, flashbacks from before the hospital- looks like
his life was good but he ruined it at the party- feeling of regret and guilt.
• Camera angles- rotation of the camera to make it look like we are seeing what he
is seeing whilst also watching him.
• Different emotions was shown throughout the video such as anger, anxiousness,
regret, sadness, guilt and acting drunk.
Blurry
8. HIM & I- G-EAZY & HALSEY
• Gives off the effect that the music video was taped on a recorder in the 80s/90s.
• The camera shots are mostly on the 2 singers as the song was wrote about their
relationship and love but there is also some wide shots of the surroundings such
as the bridges, the underground stations etc.
• The body language in this music video is very close and looks like they are
attached.
• The main location that is shown throughout the video is the nightlife of new York,
this means that the lighting is quite dark but because of the way that the video
has been edited makes it look darker than if it was edited with no effect.
9. LOSE YOU TO LOVE ME-
SELENA GOMEZ
• The video starts off with vision mixing and blending but as you get through the
video until the end you see that it is like that all the time.
• This music video is very consistent and repetitive as its in black and white and the
location doesn’t seem to change at all.
• The camera angles don’t seem to change either and she made me (the audience)
feel as if she was speaking to someone because she was sat right Infront of the
camera.
• From these points that I have listed
you would get the idea that the song
is quite a sad song because it looks
like she doesn’t have the energy to
move around and wants us to
understand and feel what she is
singing. Also the name of the song
would suggest that it is quite a sad
song, if you was to just look at this
title and not listen most people would
list it as a sad song.
10. FAKE LOVE-TJ PORTER
• The first line of this song is “them good times don’t last forever” and the scene
that is linked to it is him pulling up to a graveyard. This might give us the idea
that the song is for someone or he is thinking about someone while he performed
this video.
• The camera angles switch back and forth from him to the grave stones, there is
also shots from above probably filmed by a drone of the surroundings.
• Scenes of smoking and drinking, he is doing this in a grave yard which might give
you the impression that this person is in pain, he mentions throughout the song
that he feels pain.
This part of the music
video has been edited
differently from the rest
of the clips, it looks like
something you would
record from a video tape
in the 90s or 2000s.
11. NAASTY-DBE
• The starting point of this music video is them in the car listening back to the
recorded version of the song that they made. The location of this is in a petrol
station at night so the lighting is sometimes dark, depending on when the camera
is being turned.
• There is scenes of groups of men, shouting, screaming and driving around in
cars.
• The camera angles switch between shots of
them to shots of the car as if they want to
show it off because it is expensive
• There is scenes when the performers are
dancing along to the beat and throwing their
hands in the air for the rhythm.
• Scenes of smoking and
drinking.
• Zoom ins on the expensive
clothing that they wear.
12. POTENTIAL SONGS
You broke me first- Tate Mcrae
Lose you to love me- Selena Gomez
Him and I- G-eazy and Halsey
Friends- marshmello, anne-marie
13. POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES
I am going to edit my music video by adding some of the
lyrics onto the screen when they are being sung. I will
get someone to record me lipsyncing and will move
around to stop the background being too repative. I will
record it at night with bright lights around me from
buildings and decorations.
I will use a mixture of both close up and recording them
from far away- not facing the camera, facing the camera,
scenery shots.
14. CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO
USE
The lighting in my music video will range from dark to
light because when the camera is moving it will change
the lighting abit.
There wont really be a colour theme and they will dress
casually because its not like they are going to any fancy
places and need to dress nice.
15. SUMMARY
5 opportunities of your ideas
• I will learn how to get better at editing videos and even learning how to use and
hold a camera properly.
• My music video isn’t too hard to film because there's not a lot of people involved
its just 2 people with a few different locations.
• It will be quite easy to organize when to film my video because I don’t need to
gather a lot of people and find a date when everyone is free, I can pretty much do
it any day.
• The lyrics are easy to learn for both parts.
• The outfits can be casual, so you don’t need to buy any expensive clothing items
or props, everything I need I pretty much have.
16. SUMMARY
5 restrictions to your ideas
• When filming in public, if I wanted a shot of just one person and the place, I was
in was very busy I would be restricted a lot because I might not be able to get this
certain shot.
• We might not be available on the same day to film some clips for the video, or I
might not be able to get anyone to hold the camera if I needed it.
• When I edit the music video, I might not be able to get that old school look I want.
• I want to get some aesthetic shots of buildings, but it might be hard to find a
good location for this and I also want it to be at nighttime or when the sun is
setting because the surroundings look prettier, especially with an old school
effect.
• I want wide shots off scenery, and it looks the best when you use a drone, but I
don’t have one so this might affect the video and not look as good if I use a
camera.
17. MIND MAP OF IDEAS
[SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
•Starts off with scenery pictures of the location
•Moves onto the main character who walks into the frame
•She is addressing the camera as if it is the person she is
talking about
•I will do certain hand gestures such as hearts when the
word love is said
•I will edit certain words and letters that are said in the
song to make it more interesting
•It will end with a scenic shot in the same place it started.
18. FINAL IDEA –
ARTIST/TITLE/INFO
Name of track / name of artist- FRIENDS- marshmello, anne-marie
Brief biographical background-The two artists didn’t plam to make a
song together it was just by chance as she was going to thank him for
doing a remix and he brought his laptop out and they wrote the song
that night. The song was released in 2018.
•Links to other artists-
•Marshmello is linked to these artists- calvin harris, david guetta and
avicii.
•Anne-Marie is linked to these artists- Zara Larsson, Dua Lipa and Jess
Glynn
Genre info
Marshmello- EDM (electronic dance music)
Anne-marie- Pop
name of track- FRIENDS- genre: EDM & POP.
19. FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content,
duration, pace and style of the song]
The track is a hybrid song which encoperates EDM and
POP into one track. The meaning of the song is themed
about the singer friendzoning a male friend (when
someone wants to be more than friends however you do
not see them in that way). In the song Anne-Marie gets
very angry at the boy because she is clearly not
interested. The song is basically about unrequited love
which is one sided love.
20. FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your
interpretation, use of imagery or narrative, genre
conventions, etc]
My final idea for my music idea is to record myself lip
syncing to the song. I will also be doing actions to go
along with the lyrics. It will be dark with bright lights in
the backdrop and will move around so the background
isnt the same. I will then edit the music video so that
some text will pop up when the word is being sung to
make the video more interesting.
22. GUIDANC
E:
PRE-
PRODUCT
ION
ASSESSM
ENT
You need to assess the viability of your production and
investigate what is required to enable you to make your
music video
Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will
need to investigate standard costings for such a
production and apply these to your planned production
considering which equipment you would need and
resources, etc
Resources to support this are in the Pre-production
assessment folder on Blackboard
Delete the questions on each slide and insert your
responses
23. TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUC
TION OUTLINE
Summary of intended production
Detail here what you are going to
make and the intended outcome
Detailed breakdown of the music
track chosen and your interpretation
of it [remember the questions in the
workbook, e.g.
pace/mood/tone/structure]
Specific outline your intended
technical/equipment requirements
Include any details that you think
[you could use material from your
pitch]
24. LOCATIONS
You need to identify locations and plan a recce.
What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access,
cost, weather? How will you manage this?
My music video is going to have different locations such
as the city of leeds, streets with crowded people.
The risks for filming in the outside in a public place such
as a park are the weather might be awful and prevents
me from filming which will set me back, there also might
be people walking in the shots when I am filming. I will
try to prevent this by going to secluded areas nobody
seems to go to or I will just film when nobody is around.
25. EQUIPMENT
What do you need? E.g. equipment, resources? Mostly
from college, but who do you need to speak to get this
kit? What is available? When?
Look at equipment hire places, etc
I will either film the footage on my phone or use the
camera I have at home. If I am not happy with how the
videos look I will try hire a camera kit from the college.
26. FACILITIES
Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other
specialist facilities…?
I will edit my videos in college or if I have the correct
apps, I can also do it at home.
27. PERSONNEL
CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members
strengths/weaknesses? When are they available?
•I have a camerman.
CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are they available?
Cost implications? Will you have to feed them? Transport them?
•I don’t have anyone else.
Other personnel? Is anyone else helping you?- I might get someone
else to film the shots that both people need to be in but if nobody can I
will set it up on a tripod or something else.
28. PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
•I won't have any specific costumes, just casual clothing
that you would wear on a day-to-day basis. There will
probably be outfit changes throughout the video. I don’t
have any props for my music video.
30. PRE-PRODUCTION:
VISUAL PLANNING
This section is concerned with the visual planning of your
music video
You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your
video, establish the relationship between the visuals and the
track itself and create a structure for you to follow when
filming
It is important that you ‘pre-visualize’ the video before you
make it; it will make filming and production a more
streamlined process
The following tasks are part of your visual planning
Pre-visualization and concept boards
Storyboarding
Shot list
31. PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONC
EPT BOARDS
Tool for exploring the direction and visuals
Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel”
Presents key moments in your video
A means to sketch/plan ideas
Information on colour/lighting
Defining the “mise-en-scene”
Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you to
approach in your own way, add more as you need to
Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that have
inspired or influenced your video [similar to this:
http://io9.com/5941145/this-directors-video-pitch-for-hunger-
games-might-be-better-than-the-real-movie]
32. RIP-O-MATIC
You should also construct a 15-20second Rip-o-matic
test reel using existing footage to convey the type of
video you want to make
33. STRUCTU
RAL
BREAKDO
WN
Breakdown your track into it basic sections [e.g.
intro, verse, chorus, verse, etc] and apply broad
visual ideas to each section
You can use this as the master template for your
production, then add more shots to each section
when you develop your full visual plan
You should create a slide showing all the sections
of the song, then add a slide for each section with
timings, lyrics, what happens and details on
specific shots
You could storyboard and shot list each section
as you go, to break up the process.
34. STORYBOAR
DING
Your storyboard should bring your idea to
life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you
video
Provides a basis for production
Suggested online storyboard creators are:
https://www.storyboardthat.com
http://www.pixton.com [very
complicated]
http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you
to insert your own images]
Alternatively, hand draw or photograph
your storyboard and scan or copy to insert
it onto your slides
There are lots of tips collected together on
Blackboard! page.
Instead, ask your teacher for their "Join
Class" link and sign up there.
35. The reason I have spelt out the
word friends is because as I am
singing it will appear onto the
screen one by one.
The pictures of me
above is all different
locations I am going to
be shooting in, the
one that is close up is
36. SHOT
LIST
Your shot list should contain the
sequential breakdown of what you
need to shoot for your video
It should work in partnership with
your storyboard
It will be your working document
when you film
It should contain the shot number,
scene number, shot description,
framing and action you will see
It should also have information on
performers in the scene and other
props, etc
Shot list template is on Blackboard
in the pre-production folder.
38. PRODUCTION GROUP INFO
Include names, contact info, and defined roles at
difference stages of production, using a table is
suggested
Names Job
Elli Lead Singer
Dan Camera Man
39. LOCATION
INFORMAT
ION
Information and images of your
location[s] for filming
You should have address details,
clearance/premissions for filming,
recce photos and floorplans
[including camera, equipment and
cast/crew layouts]
Where possible, have a plan B
fallback location option
Assess each location for any issues
and suggest solutions
40. LOCATIONS
Leeds City
I will be getting shots at the Royal Armouries and bridges
close by and other surroundings/buildings that are close.
I will be moving around, and it will be based on this one
location, but you will see varieties of different shots of
the area.
41. RISK
ASSESSM
ENT
Risk Assess each separate filming
location using the table in the
camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring
point
Completing a generic filming
assessment would be a start, then
you can add specialist/site specific
risks as you progress your
production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an
ongoing document, you should
evaluate if anything changes in
production and when you put
control measures in place
You should add the table to each
call sheet for each location
42. RISK ASSESSMENT
•Be careful not to fall over when filming in the dark locations and at
nighttime.
•I will probably be filming on the pavement which is obviously next to
roads, so you have to be careful about not getting near the edge and
not getting hit by any cars.
•I am filming some of the video on a bridge, so I need to make sure me
and people who are helping or around don’t slip and fall or any of the
equipment falls off into the water below.
•As I am filming at night, there is possible chance of horrible things
such as stabbings and me and my cast could get hurt or even witness
one. To stop this from happening I will run away and make sure I am
not by myself.
•My equipment could get stolen. To stop this happening, I will make
sure that all the equipment isn’t on show and all packed away in a
separate bag.
43. CONTINGENCY
PLANNING
Things go wrong
Your contingency plan is there to give you a
backup or to minimise the effect on
production
You should consider the following areas:
Technical, Location, Personnel and
Organisational areas [about 5 potential issues
for each]
Use the form in pre-production folder on
Blackboard
44. CONTINGENCY PLAN
•I am going to be filming my clips on a camera and my phone for
backups and different choices because the two clips will have a big
difference.
• If it is raining in Leeds when I am
filming I am going to have to record
all the bits I need inside first and
then finish with the outside stuff
when I can. I will probably try get the
outside scenes done Thursday or
Friday because that’s the days not
raining.
I want
to film
outside
during
and
after the
sunset.
• I could lose all my footage if I break my
camera/gets stolen or if the SD card
fails.
• My footage could be really blurry which
would not look good with the effect I
want to use because that already blurs
it out abit.
45. PRODUCTION SCHEDULE
Your schedule should budget a total of 10 hours for
production, that is for the filming and editing of your
project.
You should plan when you’re filming and how you intend
to use the in class days on your timetable/class schedule
46. SCHEDULE
Monday- Start filming for my music video.
Tuesday- Continue filming if I need to.
Wednesday- If I have finished shooting, I will look at all
the clips and make sure I have everything I need, if I
don’t, I will have to shoot the stuff at the weekend or
whenever my cast is next available.
Monday- I should have got everything by this point so I
will begin editing.
47. CLEARANCE AND
PERMISSIONS
Any place you film and anyone you use in the
filming of your video must have a completed form
Blank forms are available for you to complete and
insert here, you can also create your own
