Trey Songz- Heart Attack
1-Synopsis:
This music video is about a male artist who has broken up with his girlfriend over arguments.
The young male artist sings about how he never knew that falling in love would hurt him so
bad and this shown through shots used of them arguing and not talking to each other.
There are two artists within the music video (male and female) but the male artist is the one
that sings throughout the whole video.
There is a narrative used within the video to show the reasons for why he is heart broken or
feeling the way he is. However it is also a performance by the male artist whilst he sings.
2- Video Type:
This video is a conceptual as it relates back to real life situations, how people get hurt
because of love. But it’s mainly a narrative as it shows a story of what lead up to the “heart
attack”. At the beginning of the video there is a close up shot used of the male artist laying
down in a hospital but as the audience we are unaware of what has happened so in order to
embed this the video takes us back to how everything happened and this is done by using a
rampage effect/ the video rewinds.
3- Themes/Motifs:
The themes used in this video is happiness and heartbreak and this is implemented through
the shots used in an outdoor space. Happiness is shown by using two people who are truly in
love and its shot in black and white to show that he was most happy in the past
The other theme of feeling heartbroken is shown in shown in colour which imply that he is
no longer happy and no longer with the girl.
At the end of the video we are shown how where they ended up after the car crash.
4- Representation of Artist/s:
The male artist is represented as a loving young black male as he we see how happy he is
with his girlfriend
He dressed in a casual way which allows the audience to relate to it because the new
generation dress quiet casual but as an artist they dress different which could also consist of
casual wear to make themselves more appealing as an artist.
5-Camera angles, special eefects, mis-en-scene and editing techniques:
There is a use of long shots to show the audience the two couples together and how they
look like in terms of dress/costume, with this we are also shown the setting/ location
There is a use of a close up shot of the artists face to show his facial expression to allow us to
see how his feeling but also with that it’s an effective shot to use within that sequence.
The editing techniques are quiet effective in this video as they use a lot of fades to show the
difference of how they were before and after. The fades show a passing of time which is
what they are trying to portray in this music video

The video uses rampage to show the cycle of their love and how it ended where it did, this
therefore ensures that the audience know what has been happening and how their love
evolved.
6- Target audience:
The target audience for this music video is mainly aimed at young adult’s people that are
most probably in relationships and are young. It could appeal to the younger generation to
show that love is not what it appears to be because you’d end up in a broken heart “heart
attack”
7- Ideas:
From this music video I think that I would like to take the way they’ve reversed the video.
They used the shot of what was meant to be at the end of the video and put it at the front
and then they showed the narrative till where we are shown them both in a hospital after
the car crash
