Mobile Media and Mobile Privatization As the growth of the society, mobile media continued to
develop the mass media. Social media has grown a new sense of mobile privatization, which has
brought a more intensified community involvement. Social network itself can be defined as the
expansion of the users circle through a more advanced technology. This paper is going to use the
concept of mobile privatization and flow 2.0 to discuss the similarities and the differences between the
citizen band ratio and smartphone.
CB radio is a two way radio system that opens to the citizens used to get communication with the
outside world at home. At last century CB radios are use by long distance truck drivers, because of the
speed limit, they share the road conditions information to avoid police. Also, do the underlying social

either on communications technologies whose content can be quantified or textually interpreted or on
the ownership and distribution networks of corporate industry giants said to dominate media
production, reception, and meaning creation (Packer, J. 2008) The appear of CB radio leads people to
have their own bias, give citizens the ability to create an individually oriented culture that allowed
people more free speech, unlike in the past, people only listen to what

Interpreting Dinosaur Habitats
1) How are sedimentary rocks used to interpret past dinosaur habitats? How is the geologic principle
of uniformitarianism used for this type of interpretation?
Sedimentary rocks interpret dinosaur habitats through encased environmental structures of the past.
Through sedimentary rocks, paleoecologists can examine the arranged formation of sedimentary
structures to specify what type of environment the dinosaurs lived in. An example of a specific
sedimentary rock structure can be seen through formed weathering and ripple marks by how wind and
sand formed distinct patterns in the past layered sediment. These arrangements provide interpretations
on the structure of the sediment and the habitat of encased fossils, through modern day comparisons ...

Ichnology, the study of trace fossils, is the principal study in following and learning about trace fossils
and how these fossil types indicate habitats. Ichnologists can use trace fossils, such as a track way and
walking patterns of dinosaurs, to determine the specific area a dinosaur walked on, which can express
a dinosaur species preferred habitat. By examining sedimentary layers and structures, ichnologists can
use fossilized tracks to determine what specific habitat a species of dinosaur lived in. The use of
uniformitarianism can be used to conclude what specific environment a dinosaur lived in through
sedimentary structures. Ichnology uses tracks to determine what habitat a dinosaur inhabited by the
pattern that a dinosaur walked in. With nests, Ichnologists can use information to determine what
habitat a species of dinosaur lived in to ensure a safe environment for the eggs. Ichnologists can

The Handmaid s Tale And Gattaca
A dystopian text is a manifestation of society s deepest fears. How is this explored in The Handmaid s
Tale and Gattaca? A comparison of dystopian texts explores contemporary issues of society and
integrates them into an alien world. The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood illustrates the nature of
society as far from ideal, and the destructive nature of oppression. Similarly, Gattaca by Andrew
Niccol epitomises the characteristics of a dystopian text, by highlighting the subversion of natural
processes, suppression of identity and oppression present in society. Both texts explore similar themes
that reflect a society s deepest fears to the audience dehumanisation. Oppression is a major fret in the
contemporary world. Alluding to Ronald Raegan s policy of supporting the oppressive apartheid in
South Africa, Atwood in The Handmaid s Tale, conveys a society where oppression is accepted
through forced collaboration and a fear of consequences if not followed. Offred s internalised
oppression is evident when she describes that the Handmaids are treated as two legged wombs, that s
all: sacred vessels, ambulatory chalices . This is a metaphor manifesting how the Handmaids come to
accept that their purpose is to produce children and showing Offred s personal oppression and her
willingness to comply with the regime. Gillead also manipulates the Bible as a power tool to
encourage the citizens to remain content with the theocratic nature of society. This is obvious

It was the way Thelma approach therapy all this years what had made it so hard for any sort of
improvement. She had a clear idea of what could help her get better and being truly upfront about it
was not really one of them. No wonder why the therapy with the other doctors did not work out, she
was hiding the biggest and most important reason of all for her obsessions. Dr. Yalom interpret this as
an error on the other therapist, even imagined they had little experience in the practice and that is way
they couldn t see what was really tormenting her. By Thelma hiding her true emotions, fears and wants
from Dr. Yalom it made it hard to build a relationship of trust between therapist patient. Dr. Yalom s
own issues did affected him when treating Thelma, he was so weary of this, of not seeing any kind of
progress he started to become desperate to achieve a solution. By trying to do this he pushed towards a
meeting between Mathew, Thelma and him, but this reflected mostly the need for Dr. Yalom to solve
this instead of what was best for his patient, even he knew this would be a very risky moved and
decided to pushed towards that anyways. His own ego, his own reputation was very important to him,

Hershey Food Corporation
HERSHEY FOODS CORPORATION:
BITTER TIMES IN A SWEET PLACE

Synopsis and Objectives
The proposed sale of Hershey Foods Corporation (HFC) during the summer of 2002 captured
headlines and imaginations. After all, Hershey was an American icon, and when the company s largest
shareholder, the Hershey Trust Company (HSY), asked HFC management to explore a sale, the story
drew national and international attention. The company s unusual governance structure put the
Hershey Trust s board in the difficult position of making both an economic and a governance decision.
On the one hand, the board faced a challenging economic decision that centered on determining

To facilitate the valuation aspect of the analysis, free cash flow forecasts are provided in case Exhibit
10 for Hershey as a stand alone entity. Most students should find it easy to calculate a value for
Hershey using the discounted cash flow (DCF) method and industry comparable multiples, which also
are provided. As with any valuation case, students must make judgments about the appropriate capital
structure, the weighted average cost of capital (WACC), sales growth, and the terminal growth rate.
Once students have explored the value drivers for Hershey though sensitivity analysis, they may then
evaluate the bids from both NestlƩ S.A. Cadbury Schweppes PLC (NCS) and the Wm. Wrigley Jr.
Company. They will want to examine whether the bids are fair from the perspective of HFC
shareholders and whether the synergies assumed by the bidders in their offer prices are reasonable.
The instructor may vary the emphasis on different issues by altering the study questions and by the
choice of video clips. The case is well suited for courses and classes concerning corporate governance,
valuation, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate social responsibility. The following objectives of

Filipino Culture Essay
A look into Filipino culture
Filipino culture is a mix of east and western perspectives and is heavily rooted in Christianity. The
diversity of its people coupled with their ability to adapt and tolerate new ideas has created a fusion of
traditional and modern. Filipinos pride themselves in their Sociability, religious belief, and Family
oriented lifestyle.
Social Aspects Filipino culture focuses heavily on social interaction and although many Filipinos are
aware of western social norms and are tolerant of social miscues that would be rather damaging in
other conservative cultures. Although there are many western aspects to Filipino social behaviors it is
in many respects entirely different. For example teasing is a viable and acceptable form of social
interaction and is used in many aspects to draw attention to a serious issue without shaming the
involved parties. In addition, direct eye contact with a Filipino is discouraged as it implies aggression
and malevolence. Employer relations with their employees is considered a very important topic. It is
important to indulge employees or any underlings you may have with kindness and respect such
behavior is highly esteemed. Any rude behaviors to such individuals is considered arrogance and will
earn you poor marks with any community or organization you may work with.

Essay about Animal Testing
Animals have long sense been a part of human life. The dog for example is thought to have been the
first animal to be domesticated by humans, sometime around 13,000 10,000 B.C., from wolves. It is
not known for sure how humans gained the trust of the Canines but in any event they did, and soon
found dogs to be reliable companions. Animals have aided us any many ways, from offering
protection and companionship. They should be respected and loved for loyalty; however it has been a
very common practice to test household items, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products on animals for
a very long time. Countless of innocent creatures are killed, or live a maimed life thanks to the

He is known as the father of vivisection. Vivisection means the cutting up of a living animal, and
historically referred only to experiments that involved the dissection of live animals. (AllSands,
History Of Animal Testing) In 1859, Charles Darwin wanted to better understand how the human body
functioned; therefore he used animals, who are much like humans to further his studies through many
forms of experimentation.
Recently animal testing has turned into a highly controversial and intense topic. The nature of the test
and the effect on the animal which is being tested is what causes the debates. For example, very few
would find animal testing wrong when testing animal food. It would be seen as a taste test, however
using an animal to test a cosmetic for skin rashes, and hair loss is seen in a different view.
People who are for animal testing states that it help researches to discover drugs and treatment that can
aid humans. Researchers claim that animal experimentation is a must in order to help us as human
being.
They say that many medical advances have come from animal testing. There have been advances in
cancer treatment and even HIV. Because of this, it is said that animals are vital for improving human
health. Another argument that supports the testing of animals is that it actually helps scientist to
known for sure if the drugs or cosmetic they want to sell to the public is safe. Since the products are

Entitlement Programs And The Entitlement Program
America was founded on several principles to include, that all men are created equal. However,
throughout history, it has been made clear through the various social classes that this is not the case
within the realm of monetary value. It is for reasons such as this that the entitlement programs were
born. Entitlement programs were created to provide security and assistance to those in need. They
would allocate basic necessities for eligible persons and families to live comfortably until they are no
longer necessary. Though a great deal of people across the country have benefited from these
programs, it has come at a high cost to the government and the taxpayers. Because of the apparent
success and high expenses, there are a number of arguments both for and against entitlement
programs. This includes the extent of their benefits and costs, the amount spent to fuel them, and even
their entire existence. On one hand, they have proven value by significantly reducing the national
poverty level and other similar successes; on the other, they cost the country millions and have been
adding to the ever increasing national deficit. Another common school of thought, is that an increasing
number of individuals or families have become completely dependent on them as they create an
avenue to stability at no cost to them. The overwhelming and unnecessary volume of goods and
services including medicaid, unemployment compensation, and food stamps that entitlement programs
supply to many

Homophobia in American Beauty
I watched the movie American Beauty a couple of days ago and saw how homophobia might be a sign
that the homophobic might be a homosexual. So I though I d write about it. American Beauty centers
on the last year of Lester Burnham s life. Lester Burnham, played by Kevin Spacey, is married to
Carolyn Burnham, played by Annette Betting, and their marriage is picture perfect on the outside, but
the perfection is only superficially. Their marriage is based on projecting one image a picture perfect
suburbia lifestyle when it is in fact quite the opposite. Colonel Frank Fitts played by Chris Cooper, is
the new neighbor who is presented as a homophobic man. He hates on and puts down the homosexual
couple in the neighborhood constantly. So what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men fear humiliation or weakness because they always have to present everyone this image of being
though, dominant and dependent; men despise anything that goes against these traditional views of
masculinity. This traditional thoughts lead to homophobia. The media is constantly portraying men in
a violent or dominant way in the movies, TV shows, etc. Asians are almost always portrayed as
martial artist or violent criminals and Latinos as boxers, criminals or though gangsters.
Ever since the Colonel moved in he shows this extreme disgust towards homosexuals around his
neighborhood. He even shows this behavior towards his son Ricky when he becomes suspicious of his
(Ricky s) relationship with Lester. Probably when the Colonel was growing up, being gay was the
worse and he tried to hide it from his parents and thought the army might help straighten him out and
got married to try to appear like a normal man. At the end of the movie Frank believes he sees his son
taking money from Lester for sexual favors and this results in Ricky leaving the house.

The death of Lester Burnham is simply because he aroused his homophobic neighbor. Lester appears
to be sexually available to men when he tells his neighbor: Our (Lester s and Carolyn s) marriage is

to kiss Lester, proving his hidden desire for men.

Tanning Bed Research Paper
It is that time of the year again, prom season. Teenagers, mostly girls, prepare for weeks prior to this
event. People regularly go tanning to make sure they look darker for their special day. A large amount
of time, money, and effort goes into getting and keeping tanned skin. In an effort to avoid paleness,
people tan to fulfill their need for confidence and beauty. But, everyone seems to avoid thinking about
the consequences. Girls want to be tan to have a higher self esteem, even though studies show that
tanning is horrible for a person s health. There has been speculation that using a tanning bed is the
only harmful method to a person s health, but that is utterly wrong. A tan, whether from a bed, on the

developing squamous cell carcinoma and a twenty nine percent increased risk of developing basal cell

older, but today, dermatologists see patients in their twenties and even late teens with this type of
cancer. Experts believe this is caused by an increase in radiation from the use of tanning beds. A
sunburn or intense sun exposure may also increase a person s chances of developing this deadly
cancer. Being in the sun is inevitable, but people can still protect their skin from many forms of skin
cancer by doing the simplest things such as applying sunscreen. Staying out of the sun altogether may
seem like the only answer to avoid this cancer. But who wants to live like a hermit? The key is to
enjoy the sun, but have a balance between sun protection and summer activities like beach volleyball
or building sand castles. Sunscreen blocks the effect of the sun s rays. It is one of the best defenses
against sun damage because it protects an individual without lessening one s comfort and

Symbolism and Repression in The Yellow Wallpaper
Symbolism and Repression in The Yellow Wallpaper
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s story, The Yellow Wallpaper is as a wonderful example of the gothic
horror genre. It was not until the rediscovery of the story in the early 1970 s that The Yellow
Wallpaper was recognized as a feminist indictment of a male dominated society. The story contains
many typical gothic trappings, but beneath the conventional faƧade hides a tale of repression and
freedom told in intricate symbolism as seen through the eyes of a mad narrator.
It is difficult to discuss the meaning in this story without first examining the author s own personal
experience. The Yellow Wallpaper gives an account of a woman driven to madness as a result of the ...

Many of the passages concerning the husband can be interpreted as containing sarcasm, a great many
contain irony, and several border on parody (Johnson 528). It is true that the husband s language is
exaggerated at times, but dismissing the husband s character as caricature seems extreme. He is
instead the natural complement to the narrator s madness and uncontrolled fancy: the character of John
is control and sanity as defined by Victorian culture and is therefore the narrator s opposite. Greg
Johnson notes that John exhibits a near obsession with reason, even as his wife grows mad. He is the
narrator s necessary counterpart, without whose stifling influence her eventual freedom would not be
gained. And he is also transformed at the end of the tale in a reversal of traditional gothic roles
because it is he, not a female, who faints when confronted with madness (529).
Central to the story is the wallpaper itself. It is within the wallpaper that the narrator finds her hidden
self and her eventual damnation/freedom. Her obsession with the paper begins subtly and then
consumes both the narrator and the story. Once settled in the long empty ancestral estate, a typical
gothic setting, the narrator is dismayed to learn that her husband has chosen the top floor nursery room
for her. The room is papered in horrible yellow wallpaper, the design of which commit[s] every artistic
sin (426). The design begins to fascinate the narrator and she

Slacker By Nathan Rabin Summary
Many may view a slacker as one who will procrastinate on everything meaningful, one who is
ignorant, lazy, incompetent, or even uneducated. Nathan Rabin argues statistically that men ranging
from their late teens to late 20s happen to be in the prime time when you re too young to realize your
limitations, or even to know that limitations exist (Rabin 482). The author argues that no man should
have a limit but to realize our potential as human beings as a whole to perceive red lights from green
lights, and to keep going when someone else said STOP. This essay influences its readers to believe
Rabin s assertion that being a so called slacker is not so bad through its anecdotal evidence, appealing
to the opposition, and societal values. Nathan Rabin affectively uses anecdotal evidence to make
readers understand what he means when he says that no man should be declared a slacker because he s

Men are not created with the same mind set nor the same motives as one another, but we all had the

appeals to the opposition by the opinion of other people, because no one in their right minds would

Taking a Look at an Electromagnetic Relay
Patent Project: Electromagnetic Relay
Describe the problem: The electromagnetic relay is used many different applications as a switch. It
allows the signal to pass through the relay, when the magnetic coil is turned on, connecting 2 contact
points together. It works as follows: The relay is made with a bobbin, a coil, a fixed magnetic core,
and a movable armature. When the coil is excited, with the magnetic field generated, the armature is
maneuvered such that it will be repositioned when the magnetic field is turned on so that the contacts
touch and the signal travels through the relay. This design was developed in 1825 [1] and has not since
been changed. One drawback to this design is that the utilization of the magnetic flux generated is not
efficient. Thus the electrical power supplied to the relay is not sufficiently used making for a flaw in
the design, a loss of power. More power is used, when less could be consumed if the design were to be
changed. Thus the problem of the current electromagnetic relay is that the power supplied is not used
efficiently, so there is a waste of power. With the new green environmentally friendly consumer
market on the rise, industries want to be able to use as little power in their circuits as possible. Thus
the solution to this power inefficiency is what this innovation tries to affect and hopefully make better.
Describe the solution: This innovation provides a new design for an electromagnetic that is more

Lord Of The Flies Piggy Character Analysis
Piggy is one of the main characters in Lord of the Flies. He is a timid, lazy boy, mainly recognized by
his asthma, glasses and fat body. I will look at the way Golding uses Piggy to explore different
concepts, including civilization, isolation and social order.
Piggy is probably the most civilized character in the book; even as the others begin to lose their
morality, he sustains a sense of community and basic ethic. In the first chapter, he suggests using the
conch to call other victims of the plane crash. This was a crucial part of the boys coming together and
finding each other on the island and maintains basis for the actual plot of the book. Also, Piggy
repeatedly compares the boys to children, for example, like a pack of kids . This simile highlights the
effect of irony because they are, of course, kids, but it shows that Piggy does not regard himself as a
child. He believes that the other boys act immature and has decidedly set himself apart from their
behaviour. As well as this, Piggy is always found holding the conch; he caressed the conch
respectfully . He relies on it to uphold a community wide sense of civilization, and comfort himself in
the way that he can revert back to the rules on holding the conch while speaking when he is being
interrupted. For instance, on page 42, Piggy says, I got the conch. You let me speak! . This is very
important because it demonstrates the symbolism of the conch as an object of society, and how much
he considers its moral and societal value.
As well as this, Piggy is a pariah in the book. The boys dislike him a lot and hold very little respect for
him this is said quite bluntly in Chapter 5, Piggy was an outsider . Despite his intelligence often being

The Small Arms Industry ( 3484 )
Industry Overview The Small Arms Industry (3484) is a subgroup of the Fabricated Metal Products
Industry. The Small Arms Industry primarily engages in manufacturing small firearms (pistols,
revolvers, rifles, shotguns and submachine guns) having a bore 30 mm or less, and also the parts for
small firearms. Historically the small arms industry has been cyclical and subject to many pressures,
including the general state of the economy, worldwide military conflicts, and political opinions
concerning private ownership of firearms. For example, gun sales rose in the days following the
terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and also rose in the days following the recent terrorist attacks
by ISIS all over the world. The border conflicts, war like situations and the threats caused by rising
terrorism are expected to boost the small arms market for armed forces, across the world. With the use
of small arms for self defense, sport shooting, hunting, climate pollution monitoring, border security
operations, and military, the demand for small arms is expected to drive this market. The small arms
industry has seen a tremendous increase in revenue of 7% per year. According to the US Census
Bureau, in 2002 the small arms industry had a revenue of $1.12 billion and increased to $3.67 billion
in 2012. Which once again this spike in revenue can be attributed to the threat of terrorist and also the
perceived threat of the government attempt to reduce and possibly eliminate the right to bear

Security In College Sports Essay
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (or NCAA) is a discourse community that most people
know about. The NCAA controls all of the college sports in the United States, with the common goal
for each team to be as successful as possible and to get as much of a profit as possible. The NCAA
features the rules that each team has to follow as well as the rules that each individual athlete has to
follow.
The NCAA uses schedules and newsletters to inform the public about things going on around the
association, and memos to keep coaches, players, and officials up to date. There are many different
genres that the NCAA use and not everyone realizes just how many there are.
These rules are set in place so that each student acts in an appropriate manner and so that they are
being as safe as they can be. Security is also a genre in the NCAA; the NCAA requires a high amount
of strict security as to keep athletes safe. The NCAA has a strict set of rules that each and every
player/coach/ and official has to follow. One example of the context is the amount of time an athlete
that is being recruited can visit each school (and for how long), what the coaches can discuss with the
player while on the visit and what can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ways the NCAA front office does this is though newsletters. Newsletters are used as injury
reports, update on how each team is doing, and other things such as upcoming events for each team.
The newsletters are put in newspapers, online blogs, and short articles. Sports journals are for some
people the most interesting literature that is written daily and it is constantly changing. Sports journals
are a type of newsletters that are written to inform and to elaborate on events going on in the NCAA.
And sometimes journals are even a place for reporters and analyzers to rant on why they think each
team is doing things wrong and what they really should be doing to make their teams

Customer Service And Social Media
4.1.5. Customer Service
Another significant benefit social media networks provide to companies is the opportunity to interact
with current and prospects customers. Through pages and profiles on social media, consumers can
leave their feedback quickly and directly to the organisation. Customers can also request information
and reach out to organisation for help and support. The interactive communication fosters a
trustworthy relationship between organisation and its customers. Companies can have one on one
conversation with customers to understand their need and to gather their feedback.
The presence on social media in the form of blog, pages, and profiles allow the customer to have
interactive communication with the representative of organisation. Organisations also get a chance to
listen to their customers and not only solve their issues but to educate them about organisation and its
products or services. Feedback can be of anything such as the experience of using new or existing
product, general feedback regarding brand, complaint and suggestions regarding products or even
company website and advertising. And this in turn allows the companies to evaluate whether they are
meeting the expectation of their customers or not.
In addition to positive suggestion and feedback, companies sometime have to deal with negative
comments. Infect, negative feedback can spread more quickly on social media. Thus, while
developing a social media strategy, company should consider such

My Reflection Of My Leadership As A Leader
There are many individual questions on this were scored lower than I would like, but they are areas
that I felt I excelled in on the other questions, It looks like I scored higher in the Seek First to
Understand and Synergize sections than in the other areas, I feel this is because of constant thought of
how ones actions can and do affect others, Because of that I am sensitive to the feelings of others and
seek to not only understand them, but make sure they are not caused discomfort by me, I feel this
makes me a good leader because I can also lead others to being accountable for their actions and
natural consequences of those actions while keeping their feelings and needs at hand, This is
something that I have learned over the years and am sure I still need to work on, As any leader I have
strengths as well as weaknesses, I feel one of my strengths is my willingness to listen to others, I have
always let other know that I am open to their suggestions, I make it clear that another s idea might be a
better way to do something, If the idea is good and things can be changed then they should, I feel my
willingness to not only listen, but to hear what they say is why I feel this is one of my strengths,
Typically people only truly listen only 25 percent of time, The other 75 percent is spent without truly
listening to what a person is saying (McIntosh, 2008), Another of my strengths is that I thrive in
stressful situations, I can still get things done and do not buckle under

Downtown Whitehall
I remember sitting at our dining room table, looking past the window. I wasn t much older than eleven.
It was a sunny Saturday afternoon, and I was bored out of my mind. I sighed, wishing there was
something exciting to do. My mother told me that I should go outside and play, but I had already
played at our playground what seemed like a million times already. The playground was only ten
yards away from our small 800 square foot apartment, in the heart of Omaha, Nebraska. This was a
convenience to some kids, but to me it was aggravating. I sat there in that wooden dining chair
thinking how this summer had been one of the most uneventful summers I had ever had. I daydreamed

Discuss the Minority Presence in Contemporary British Art...
Minority Presence in Contemporary British Art
Highly visible yet evasively mute.
Art critic Kobena Mercer, comments on the current position of African and Asian artists in
Contemporary British Art, when he suggests that minority artists are seen and not heard. This
oxymoronic position derives from a long historical legacy of European colonization and the emphasis
on racial inferiority and otherness. On the one hand, British art is progressive, allowing some minority
art in the general art world. Yet on the other hand minority art is still marginalized by the preferential
treatment given to white artists. There is a strong degree of accuracy in Mercer s statement because
while minority art can now be seen, the voice is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The yBa movement is said to establish new ideas of Britishness in a postmodern world. Yet, Mercer
goes so far as to say that the movement is in part a reaction to the attempt to globalize the British art
world: At this stage it is precisely the discrepancy between parochial yBa inwardness and the art world
internatialism that obliges us to interrogate the ideology of New British Art as a defensive, and, above
all, regressive response to the bewildering effects of globalization The important art (as seen by
Saatchi and The Tate) returns to a concern with British identity that fails to comment on how diversity
has changed that identity. By turning inward as a reaction to globalization, British art regresses and
fuels a return to white dominance. As a result, multicultural art lacking Western referents become
suppressed.
While there are movements to prevent this subordination of multiculturalism, their range of influence
is limited. The Institute of International Visual Arts (inIva) was founded in 1994 and its major goal is
to bring artists from culturally diverse backgrounds to the attention of mainstream British culture.
However, while their success has been praised on a global level, locally they are largely overlooked.

Troy vs. the Iliad Essay
Over the thousands of years that the epic story the Iliad has survived, there has no doubt been some
form of alteration to Homer s original. Last May, Wolfgang Petersen directed a movie based on the
Iliad. This movie, Troy, has proven to be a very loose adaptation of Homer s original, as are almost all
stories that are made into movies, unfortunately. With its timeless storyline, amazing scenery,
gorgeous actors/actresses and most of all, its reported two hundred million dollar budget, it is easy to
see why Troy was hyped up to be a box office hit. However, the film critics were harsh on this movie,
as they had every right to be, and it ended up being a total flop. Compared to Homer s Iliad, Troy is

We will never be here again (Troy 2004). The suspected start of the war over the abduction of Helen,
Queen of Sparta was caused entirely by a godly conflict over who was the most beautiful Hera,
Athena, and Aphrodite. Paris, son of King Priam of Troy, was selected to judge. He chose Aphrodite,
who in turn gave him Helen, who was her equivalent in beauty amongst humans. In both versions,
Paris is portrayed as a wife stealing, thief in the night. His brother Hector and he were on a peace
mission in Sparta on behalf of Troy visiting the king, Menelaus, when Paris ran off with Menelaus
wife, Helen. This action divides the Gods who constantly meddle with the mortal s lives. Naturally,
Aphrodite is on the Trojans side, as was her lover and God of War, Ares, and Apollo. Although Zeus,
King of Gods, tried to be neutral, he was pro Trojan. Hera, Queen of Gods, and Athena help the
Greeks because they were mad that Paris chose Aphrodite. Poseidon, God of the Sea and Zeus brother,
also sided with the Greeks whenever Zeus was not looking. An example of this constant intrusiveness
of the Gods in the Iliad was when King Menelaus hurls his spear, lightly wounding Paris. Paris helmet
strap becomes caught at his chin and Menelaus has nearly dragged him away before Aphrodite
intervenes, breaking the strap. She then wraps Paris in a mist, sets him in his own perfumed
bedchamber, and hurries to catch Helen (Bloom 13). Of

Media Stereotypes In The Media
Representation of South Asians in American Film and Television Media Keywords: Race, Ethnicity,
Media Representation, South Asian, Culture, Media Studies, American Media The media has a huge
impact on issues concerning race and ethnicity Depictions of certain groups of people in the media can
impact the way in which these groups are perceived by others as well as by members of the same
racial/ethnic category. The way in which racial/ethnic groups are portrayed in the media can either
harm or benefit these groups. While African Americans have attained a degree of parity in terms of the
quantity of depictions in television and movie time, the quality of their onscreen personas are more or
less based on societal stereotypes. For South Asians, little has changed over the years, there on screen
characters are based on long standing media definitions of South Asians. Within these rare images, a
limited set of characterizations often predominates, such as the spiritual guru, the taxi driver or
convenience store owner; most recently in the last two decades these roles have switched to the the
tech savvy nerd and the brown terrorist. These racialized representations of ethnic communities are
not free of consequence. Exposure to and consumption of images and messages associated with
certain racial and ethnic communities in the media leads to the formation of cognitions regarding these

Feedlots Essay
Feedlots are managed facilities where livestock, notably beef cattle, are confined to produce beef for
Australian consumers. They aim to increase the amount of meat each animal produces to meet the
growing demands of the Australian export market. Associated with the process of confining cattle, are
a number of detrimental effects and ethical issues, such as the number of hormones being introduced
into the cattle s diets. Hormones are chemical substances made by cells in one part of the body and
released to regulate responses elsewhere in the body (Marcus, 2010). Produced by pituitary glands,
growth hormones regulate body composition, body fluids, muscle and bone growth and sugar and fat
metabolism. Within feedlots, growth hormones are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
rBGH is a synthetic cow hormone that acts on the mammary gland to help it take up more nutrients
from the bloodstream and therefore increase milk production. To stimulate this production of milk,
another hormone, known as insulin like growth factor (IGF 1) is additionally increased. IGF 1
subsequently stimulates growth in cells throughout the cattle s body, leading to unnatural development
rates, strengthening of tissues and building of the muscle tissue. If increased dramatically, IGF 1 may
influence the development of certain tumours when consumed by humans. Originating within tissues,
cancer cells continue to grow and divide, becoming, over time, increasingly less dependent to the
signals from other cells. These cells may become resistant to cell death apoptosis and continue to
divide whilst metastasising to new sites within the body. It is this greater concern of uncontrolled cell
division that the issue of feedlots producing meat with unacceptable levels of hormones is raised to the
Australian public. Evidently, many issues are associated with the management of feedlots and the
procedures used to ingest cattle with unacceptable levels of hormones. Indicated previously, injecting
high levels of rBGH into cattle can lead to the increase in IGF 1, a hormone that has been associated
with an increased risk of breast, prostate and

Similarities Between Lord Of The Flies And The Hunger Games
District 12. Where you can starve to death in safety (6). This is a quote from the book The Hunger
Games, by Suzanne Collins, and it is a prime example of the dystopian society the book is set in.
Another book set in a dystopian society is Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. The Hunger Games
is a book about a society where every year, 24 people are sent to fight to the death in the Hunger
Games. Lord of the Flies is about a big group of young children getting trapped on an island and
having to figure out how to survive on their own without any adults. Both the novel Lord of The Flies
and the book The Hunger Games present societies that are vicious and cruel, in similar settings, even
though there are some differences between the two stories. One similarity between both books is the
use of fire. At the beginning of Lord of the Flies fire is used to try to give a signal to passing ships that
there are children trapped on the island. If a ship comes near the island they may not be able to notice
us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire (33). At the beginning of
The Hunger Games fire is used to gain the Capitol s attention during the ceremony where all tributes
ride on chariots. I want the audience to recognize you when you re in the arena, says Cinna dreamily.
Katniss, the girl who was on fire (67). In both situations, fire is used to gain attention of people who
will be able to help them in the future, whether it s giving them a gift during the Games, or rescuing
them. However, later on in the stories fire is used differently. At the end of Lord of the Flies, Jack s
group uses fire to try to burn down the forest in order to find and kill Ralph. The fire was a big one
and the drum roll that he had thought had left so far behind was nearer (182). This quote is from a part
when Ralph is hiding in the currently burning down forest, trying to escape from Jack. In The Hunger
Games, fire is used to burn down part of the arena for the Games, in order to bring Katniss closer to
the other tributes. This fire is designed to flush us out, to drive us together (173). One difference
between the two books is the idea of unique appearances. In Lord of the Flies, there is the

Difference Between Incus And Stape
When you hear a fire engine siren, the sound waves from the truck enters your ear canal and vibrates
your eardrum. Then the vibrations go to the central part of the eardrum connected to a small bone of
the middle ear called the malleus. Then as the malleus vibrates, it transmits sound waves to the incus
and stapes. The incus and stapes are two small bones that are part of the middle ear. They are also
called ossicles. As the stapes move, it pushes the oval window in and out.
This movement is passed to an auditory inner ear that functions to convert sound vibrations into neural
messages. This inner ear is called the cochlea. Then the spiral organ Corti, which is located in the
cochlea, is sent into action every time the oval window

America needs change, but why not start with the Canadians?
It was a few years ago, and I had gone grocery shopping with my mother. I d always shop with her just
so I could get out of the house, walk around, and pick out food that I wouldn t have thought of for the

change would least occur. She was a spiteful person whose insecurities led her judgments. Despite her
animosity to most things, she would tell me stories to inform me on matters she finds important, like
how much money I should save for a car, or how she earned a high credit score. On our way home
from the grocery store, she decided to tell me a story she heard from her coworker. My coworker, she
has a pool in her backyard, and one day she found the black neighbor s kids swimming in her pool.
She told them that they should ask to use her pool and told their mom, but their mom said, and my
mother used her best, yet ear aching impression of a black woman and belted: you ain t using no pool!
We can use it all we want! She decided to follow her story with also, I m going to refer to black people
as Canadians. That way no one complains about it. Nobody cares what the actual Canadians, so my
coworker found Canadians in her pool.
I nodded silently because I had always found her racism distasteful. I had been quite used to her
prejudice, so it was natural for me to passively await her to stop. At the time, I

Sylvia Plath s Spinster was effective in presenting its view that love is unrealistic, however, Sir Walter
Raleigh s The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd was more direct. Sylvia Plath s sixains and uneven

followed the Iambic pentameter that complimented the speaker s argument that of why love is
incredulous between an immortal and a mortal. Through tone, symbolism, imagery, and worldview Sir
Walter Raleigh manages to present the Nymph s attitude toward love in a artistic and effective way.

The shepherd presents the nymph with flowers, shoes, and beds of roses to persuade her, but they fail
to meet the nymph s conditions, All these in me no means can move (Raleigh 19). The gifts can t
move her because with time the shepherd s gifts would, Soon break, soon wither (Raleigh 16). The
gifts are no use to the nymph as an immortal being. The symbolism in Spinster is similar to Raleigh s
because just immortality and mortality can t coexist, neither can spring or winter. The speaker in
Spinster can be tempted by spring which is a symbol of love because, Only idiots/Reel giddy in

spring and refers to a bird s song as Irregular babel (Plath 5). The speaker prefers winter (isolation)
because everything is in its order and there is discipline that helps the speaker feel in control (Plath

is unrealistic. The imager of flowers do fade portrays how the gifts that the shepherd offers the nymph
only last for a short period of time. The gifts are a symbol of the shepherd s love, therefore the
shepherd s love will also fade. The promise of love is unrealistic because the shepherd believes that

It can be argued that one of the most important aspects of culture are marriages. The union of two

  • 8. The Handmaid s Tale And Gattaca A dystopian text is a manifestation of society s deepest fears. How is this explored in The Handmaid s Tale and Gattaca? A comparison of dystopian texts explores contemporary issues of society and integrates them into an alien world. The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood illustrates the nature of society as far from ideal, and the destructive nature of oppression. Similarly, Gattaca by Andrew Niccol epitomises the characteristics of a dystopian text, by highlighting the subversion of natural processes, suppression of identity and oppression present in society. Both texts explore similar themes that reflect a society s deepest fears to the audience dehumanisation. Oppression is a major fret in the contemporary world. Alluding to Ronald Raegan s policy of supporting the oppressive apartheid in South Africa, Atwood in The Handmaid s Tale, conveys a society where oppression is accepted through forced collaboration and a fear of consequences if not followed. Offred s internalised oppression is evident when she describes that the Handmaids are treated as two legged wombs, that s all: sacred vessels, ambulatory chalices . This is a metaphor manifesting how the Handmaids come to accept that their purpose is to produce children and showing Offred s personal oppression and her willingness to comply with the regime. However, throughout history, it has been made clear through the various social classes that this is not the case within the realm of monetary value. It is for reasons such as this that the entitlement programs were born. Entitlement programs were created to provide security and assistance to those in need. They would allocate basic necessities for eligible persons and families to live comfortably until they are no longer necessary. Though a great deal of people across the country have benefited from these programs, it has come at a high cost to the government and the taxpayers. Because of the apparent success and high expenses, there are a number of arguments both for and against entitlement programs. This includes the extent of their benefits and costs, the amount spent to fuel them, and even their entire existence. On one hand, they have proven value by significantly reducing the national poverty level and other similar successes; on the other, they cost the country millions and have been adding to the ever increasing national deficit. Many of the passages concerning the husband can be interpreted as containing sarcasm, a great many contain irony, and several border on parody (Johnson 528). It is true that the husband s language is exaggerated at times, but dismissing the husband s character as caricature seems extreme. He is instead the natural complement to the narrator s madness and uncontrolled fancy: the character of John is control and sanity as defined by Victorian culture and is therefore the narrator s opposite. Greg Johnson notes that John exhibits a near obsession with reason, even as his wife grows mad. He is the narrator s necessary counterpart, without whose stifling influence her eventual freedom would not be gained. And he is also transformed at the end of the tale in a reversal of traditional gothic roles because it is he, not a female, who faints when confronted with madness (529). Central to the story is the wallpaper itself. It is within the wallpaper that the narrator finds her hidden self and her eventual damnation/freedom. • 20. Taking a Look at an Electromagnetic Relay Patent Project: Electromagnetic Relay Describe the problem: The electromagnetic relay is used many different applications as a switch. It allows the signal to pass through the relay, when the magnetic coil is turned on, connecting 2 contact points together. It works as follows: The relay is made with a bobbin, a coil, a fixed magnetic core, and a movable armature. When the coil is excited, with the magnetic field generated, the armature is maneuvered such that it will be repositioned when the magnetic field is turned on so that the contacts touch and the signal travels through the relay. This design was developed in 1825 [1] and has not since been changed. One drawback to this design is that the utilization of the magnetic flux generated is not efficient. Thus the electrical power supplied to the relay is not sufficiently used making for a flaw in the design, a loss of power. More power is used, when less could be consumed if the design were to be changed. Thus the problem of the current electromagnetic relay is that the power supplied is not used efficiently, so there is a waste of power. With the new green environmentally friendly consumer market on the rise, industries want to be able to use as little power in their circuits as possible. Thus the solution to this power inefficiency is what this innovation tries to affect and hopefully make better. • 21. Lord Of The Flies Piggy Character Analysis Piggy is one of the main characters in Lord of the Flies. He is a timid, lazy boy, mainly recognized by his asthma, glasses and fat body. I will look at the way Golding uses Piggy to explore different concepts, including civilization, isolation and social order. Piggy is probably the most civilized character in the book; even as the others begin to lose their morality, he sustains a sense of community and basic ethic. In the first chapter, he suggests using the conch to call other victims of the plane crash. This was a crucial part of the boys coming together and finding each other on the island and maintains basis for the actual plot of the book. Also, Piggy repeatedly compares the boys to children, for example, like a pack of kids . This simile highlights the effect of irony because they are, of course, kids, but it shows that Piggy does not regard himself as a child. He believes that the other boys act immature and has decidedly set himself apart from their behaviour. As well as this, Piggy is always found holding the conch; he caressed the conch respectfully . He relies on it to uphold a community wide sense of civilization, and comfort himself in the way that he can revert back to the rules on holding the conch while speaking when he is being interrupted. For instance, on page 42, Piggy says, I got the conch. You let me speak! . This is very important because it demonstrates the symbolism of the conch as an object of society, and how much he considers its moral and societal value. As well as this, Piggy is a pariah in the book. The boys dislike him a lot and hold very little respect for him this is said quite bluntly in Chapter 5, Piggy was an outsider . Despite his intelligence often being of use to them, they tend to disregard his contributions to the group. One example of this is when Ralph pushed Piggy on one side when he was trying to speak. This can be seen as both a literal and metaphorical representation of how Piggy is treated. What is meant by the quote is that Ralph physically pushed him aside, however it can be interpreted that Ralph and the boys not only shove Piggy around physically, but they also bully him verbally and overlook his advice and opinions. Yet, Mercer goes so far as to say that the movement is in part a reaction to the attempt to globalize the British art world: At this stage it is precisely the discrepancy between parochial yBa inwardness and the art world internatialism that obliges us to interrogate the ideology of New British Art as a defensive, and, above all, regressive response to the bewildering effects of globalization The important art (as seen by Saatchi and The Tate) returns to a concern with British identity that fails to comment on how diversity has changed that identity. By turning inward as a reaction to globalization, British art regresses and fuels a return to white dominance. As a result, multicultural art lacking Western referents become suppressed. While there are movements to prevent this subordination of multiculturalism, their range of influence is limited. The Institute of International Visual Arts (inIva) was founded in 1994 and its major goal is to bring artists from culturally diverse backgrounds to the attention of mainstream British culture. However, while their success has been praised on a global level, locally they are largely overlooked. The major art insitutions refuse to recognize artists whose thematic concentration does not ... Last May, Wolfgang Petersen directed a movie based on the Iliad. This movie, Troy, has proven to be a very loose adaptation of Homer s original, as are almost all stories that are made into movies, unfortunately. With its timeless storyline, amazing scenery, gorgeous actors/actresses and most of all, its reported two hundred million dollar budget, it is easy to see why Troy was hyped up to be a box office hit. The suspected start of the war over the abduction of Helen, Queen of Sparta was caused entirely by a godly conflict over who was the most beautiful Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. Paris, son of King Priam of Troy, was selected to judge. He chose Aphrodite, who in turn gave him Helen, who was her equivalent in beauty amongst humans. In both versions, Paris is portrayed as a wife stealing, thief in the night. His brother Hector and he were on a peace mission in Sparta on behalf of Troy visiting the king, Menelaus, when Paris ran off with Menelaus wife, Helen. This action divides the Gods who constantly meddle with the mortal s lives. Naturally, Aphrodite is on the Trojans side, as was her lover and God of War, Ares, and Apollo. Although Zeus, King of Gods, tried to be neutral, he was pro Trojan. Hera, Queen of Gods, and Athena help the Greeks because they were mad that Paris chose Aphrodite. Poseidon, God of the Sea and Zeus brother, also sided with the Greeks whenever Zeus was not looking. An example of this constant intrusiveness of the Gods in the Iliad was when King Menelaus hurls his spear, lightly wounding Paris. Paris helmet strap becomes caught at his chin and Menelaus has nearly dragged him away before Aphrodite intervenes, breaking the strap. She then wraps Paris in a mist, sets him in his own perfumed bedchamber, and hurries to catch Helen (Bloom 13). Of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They aim to increase the amount of meat each animal produces to meet the growing demands of the Australian export market. Associated with the process of confining cattle, are a number of detrimental effects and ethical issues, such as the number of hormones being introduced into the cattle s diets. Hormones are chemical substances made by cells in one part of the body and released to regulate responses elsewhere in the body (Marcus, 2010). Produced by pituitary glands, growth hormones regulate body composition, body fluids, muscle and bone growth and sugar and fat metabolism. Within feedlots, growth hormones are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... rBGH is a synthetic cow hormone that acts on the mammary gland to help it take up more nutrients from the bloodstream and therefore increase milk production. To stimulate this production of milk, another hormone, known as insulin like growth factor (IGF 1) is additionally increased. IGF 1 subsequently stimulates growth in cells throughout the cattle s body, leading to unnatural development rates, strengthening of tissues and building of the muscle tissue. If increased dramatically, IGF 1 may influence the development of certain tumours when consumed by humans. Originating within tissues, cancer cells continue to grow and divide, becoming, over time, increasingly less dependent to the signals from other cells. These cells may become resistant to cell death apoptosis and continue to divide whilst metastasising to new sites within the body. It is this greater concern of uncontrolled cell division that the issue of feedlots producing meat with unacceptable levels of hormones is raised to the Australian public. Evidently, many issues are associated with the management of feedlots and the procedures used to ingest cattle with unacceptable levels of hormones. Indicated previously, injecting high levels of rBGH into cattle can lead to the increase in IGF 1, a hormone that has been associated with an increased risk of breast, prostate and ... • 35. Similarities Between Lord Of The Flies And The Hunger Games District 12. Where you can starve to death in safety (6). This is a quote from the book The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, and it is a prime example of the dystopian society the book is set in. Another book set in a dystopian society is Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. The Hunger Games is a book about a society where every year, 24 people are sent to fight to the death in the Hunger Games. Lord of the Flies is about a big group of young children getting trapped on an island and having to figure out how to survive on their own without any adults. Both the novel Lord of The Flies and the book The Hunger Games present societies that are vicious and cruel, in similar settings, even though there are some differences between the two stories. One similarity between both books is the use of fire. At the beginning of Lord of the Flies fire is used to try to give a signal to passing ships that there are children trapped on the island. If a ship comes near the island they may not be able to notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire (33). At the beginning of The Hunger Games fire is used to gain the Capitol s attention during the ceremony where all tributes ride on chariots. I want the audience to recognize you when you re in the arena, says Cinna dreamily. Katniss, the girl who was on fire (67). In both situations, fire is used to gain attention of people who will be able to help them in the future, whether it s giving them a gift during the Games, or rescuing them. However, later on in the stories fire is used differently. At the end of Lord of the Flies, Jack s group uses fire to try to burn down the forest in order to find and kill Ralph. The fire was a big one and the drum roll that he had thought had left so far behind was nearer (182). This quote is from a part when Ralph is hiding in the currently burning down forest, trying to escape from Jack. In The Hunger Games, fire is used to burn down part of the arena for the Games, in order to bring Katniss closer to the other tributes. This fire is designed to flush us out, to drive us together (173). One difference between the two books is the idea of unique appearances. In Lord of the Flies, there is the ... She had grown up on a farm in a small town where change would least occur. She was a spiteful person whose insecurities led her judgments. The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd followed the Iambic pentameter that complimented the speaker s argument that of why love is incredulous between an immortal and a mortal. The symbolism in Spinster is similar to Raleigh s because just immortality and mortality can t coexist, neither can spring or winter. The speaker in Spinster can be tempted by spring which is a symbol of love because, Only idiots/Reel giddy in bedlam spring (Plath 22). The speaker prefers winter (isolation) because everything is in its order and there is discipline that helps the speaker feel in control (Plath 13,14,17). Imagery in the Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd helps reinforce the speaker s view that love is unrealistic. The imager of flowers do fade portrays how the gifts that the shepherd offers the nymph only last for a short period of time.
