Essay about Toll like receptors and their therapeutic...
Cellular Basis Of Disease: Why has the discovery of Toll like receptors revolutionised our
understanding of how the innate immune system works, and what is the therapeutic potential? The
body has two immune systems: the innate immune system and the adaptive immune system.
Adaptive, or acquired, immunity refers to antigen specific defence mechanisms that take several
days to become protective and are designed to react with and remove a specific antigen. This is
immunity develops throughout life. Innate immunity refers to antigen nonspecific defence
mechanisms that a host uses immediately or within several hours after exposure to an antigen. This
is the immunity that you are born with, and is the initial response by the body to eliminate... Show

PRRs recognise molecules that are not associated to human cells (PAMPs). The best
characterised signalling PRRs are the Toll like receptors (TLRs). They are present in plants,
invertebrates and vertebrates, and represent a primitive host defence mechanism against
bacteria, fungi and viruses. There are 13 TLRs that have been discovered in mammals so far,
named TLR 1 to TLR 13. TLRs are primary transmembrane proteins of immune cells, that contain
leucine repeats in their extracellular domains and a cytoplasmic tail that contains a conserved
region called the Toll / IL1 receptor (TIR) domain. The Toll gene was first discovered in the fruit
fly Drosophila melanogaster, but has close homologues in mammalian immune cells. This is
where the name Toll like receptor is derived. Different combinations of TLRs appear in pairs in
different cell types. Different TLRs bind directly or indirectly to different microbial molecules.
TLRs found on cell surfaces: a. TLR 1/TLR 2 pairs bind uniquely bacterial lipopeptides and GPI
anchored proteins in parasites b. TLR 2/TL6 pairs bind lipoteichoic acid from gram positive cell
walls and zymosan from fung c. TLR 4/TLR 4 pairs bind lipopolysaccharide from gram negative
cell walls; d. TLR 5 binds bacterial flagellin TLRs found in the membranes of the endosomes used
to degrade pathogens: a. TLR 3 binds double stranded viral RNA b. TLR 7

Concentration Camps Of The Second Anglo-Boer War
One of many forms of oppression the British practiced during the Second Anglo Boer War was the
use of concentration camps. Both blacks and whites were placed in the camps, and were required
to perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white camps were segregated, and the treatment of
the inmates in the black concentration camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less
rations were given, and less maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and
poor living conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been
transferred to civilian control, the black concentration camps still remained under military
command (Pretorius). Though many Boers and British believed the war to be a white man s war ,
blacks continued to be segregated and oppressed in order to profit off of their labor and gain
advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on the side of the British, believing they would receive
education and more economic opportunities with a victory by England ( Role ). Regardless of what
side the natives took, the eventual outcomes of the war still prevented them from reaching true
equality with the soldiers they fought with at the turn of the twentieth century. Subtle rules and
regulations were implemented as a treaty between the English and Boers prevented blacks from
ever escaping the European induced living conditions. The stipulation in the Treaty of Vereeniging
that schools continue to teach in Dutch, and conduct court in the

Plp Reflection
PLP reflection
1.Briefly reflect on how your understanding of yourself has improved since starting the PLP.
Address the capabilities in your answer.
Since starting the PLP I have understood more about myself.
In PLP I have done the University of South Australia Career Match workbook. In this workbook, I
know that I am an Analyser Driver who look to system, rules and order within a structured
environment, and have a high desire to achieve. After doing this workbook, I have a clearer
concept of my personality and working style.
I have also done a student evaluation workbook. In this workbook, there is a task and I find out
that I have a fixed mindset that means I believe my basic abilities, intelligence and talents are just
fixed. This mindset may make me remain or even decrease my grades. Fortunately, in this
workbook, there is some activities to help me to set some goal in order to achieve a higher grade.
2.Consider all the work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It taught me that I need to set my goal SMART which is Specific, Measurable, Achievable,

up the technique in goal setting, and I can use it to set up my learning and working goal in the
future.
3.Explain how the development of your selected capability from Folio task 3 has help you to
achieve your goals.
In Folio task 3, I have selected to develop my capability of information and communication
technology. After finishing Folio task 3, I get more familiar to my MacBook Air, which really

What Is Grounded Theory ( Glaser And Strauss )
1. Method
We use a single case study methodology to focus on a failed IS project implementation. The study
uses grounded theory (Glaser and Strauss 1967; c.f., Charmaz 2013; c.f., Corbin and Strauss 2015)
in its focus on principles of emergence by which systematic generation and conceptualization of
data provides meaning and relevance to concepts (Glaser and Strauss 1967). In accordance with the
recommendations of engaged scholarship by Van de Ven (2007), the project began with the
identification of a research problem identified to be relevant to experienced practitioners in leading
organizations of IT project management. To develop a base understanding of the challenges
experienced in the execution of IT projects, we engaged informally with key industry informants.
Observations made in this stage were used to inform the specific research objectives and question
put forth in the Introduction. Specifically, observations were used as data that was conceptualized
based on theoretical sensitivity in line with grounded theory (Glaser 1978; Strauss and Corbin
1990). Data complexity was used in the early stages of the research to allow the relevant themes
and findings to emerge from the data and to avoid forcing the data to fit existing theories (Urquhart
2013). The conceptual development aspect of grounded theory allows us to discover theory from
the data and identify the theories and tenets within that are applicable to IT contexts of interest

Human Form Of Prion Disease
Prion disease, also known as a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE), was first seen in
1902 within a linguistic group in Papa New Guinea, called the Fore. This human form of prion
disease is called kuru and around the 1950 s, it proved to be untreatable and always fatal to those
infected by it. At its peak, kurureached epidemic levels as 200 new cases of kuru were reported
annually during the mid 1950 s, contributing to greatly to its death toll of 3000 people (Goldfarb,
2002). The Fore people were mostly affected by kuru and comprised 80% of kuru deaths recorded
(Goldfarb, 2002). Unlike neighboring tribes, the Fore linguistic group of Papa New Guinea often
conducted a cannibalistic feast of deceased loved ones for the purpose of... Show more content on

This can be simply attributed to the fact that adult males seldom participated in the cannibalizing of
the dead. In addition to this, when adult males did participate in the mortuary feasts, they often
consumed the muscle tissues of the deceased and not the brain, which is the most infectious organ
when concerning kuru. Due to the loss of susceptible genotypes and the decline of cannibalistic
practices by the Fore people, there were less incidences of Kuru and a decline in kuru mortality rate
after the 1950 s. However, kuru related mortalities, although minute, did persist past this period due
to the long incubation time of kuru (mean incubation time в‰…12 years). In some cases, patients
weren t afflicted with kuru until 50 years after exposure to the infection.
The active phase of the kuru disease can be differentiated into three main stages, each with their
own set of unique symptoms: ambulant stage, sedentary stage and terminal stage. The entirety of
the active phase of kuru occurs within 12 months. Before any of these stages emerge, the patient
experiences preliminary symptoms in the prodromal period such as headaches and joint pain that
starts at the knees and ankles then proceeds to the elbows and wrists (Liberski et al., 2012). The
brief prodromal period precedes the ambulant stage, which is the longest stage (8 months) and ends
when the patient can

Examples Of Qr Code
QR Code s Dead or Alive?
By
Paul Keenan
If you have never seen a QR code before you may ask yourself what is a QR code? According to the
definition on the Encyclopedia of Britannica website the QR code is.
QR Code, in full Quick Response Code, is a type of bar code that consists of a printed square
pattern of small black and white squares that encode data which can be scanned into a computer
system. The black and white squares can represent numbers from 0 to 9, letters from A to Z, or
characters in non Latin scripts such as Japanese kanji .QR Codes were developed in 1994 by the
Japanese corporation Denso Wave a division of Denso, which is a subsidiary of the automobile

How Did Copernicus Create A Paradigm Shift To A...
This paper analyzes the veracity of the fairly commonplace belief that Nicolaus Copernicus
produced a paradigm shift in the field of astronomy from the geocentric Ptolemaic model to his
own heliocentric model that resembles what contemporary astronomy deems as true. The starting
point is the analysis of the work put forth by Copernicus in contrast to his Ptolemaic predecessors
and his heliocentric successors. The framework for this analysis is the one suggested by Thomas
Kuhn in his description of a paradigm shift in the context of scientific development. The paper
concludes that Copernicus deserves a lot of credit for initiating the heliocentric paradigm shift,
similar to the widespread sentiment that his work revolutionized astronomy and produced a
paradigm shift to a heliocentric model, but not quite the same. His work retains a large number of
elements from the Ptolemaic system which prevented it from being a clear shift, but he does indeed
challenge the geocentric and geostationary (that the earth is at rest) assumptions in a move that
threatens the core of the Ptolemaic system. Nonetheless, his work did little more than argue from a
position with weak... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kuhn himself used the term rather loosely in his landmark book The Structure of Scientific
Revolutions , referring to either the laws and principles that govern scientific inquiry within a
specific field or just a collection of landmark works showcasing a common body of beliefs.
Although one could consider arguing that the Copernican revolution (but definitely not Copernicus
himself) started the shift away from deriving scientific knowledge from scripture and thus he
started a paradigm shift in the former sense, those implications are fairly removed from Copernicus
himself. As such, arguing whether he initiated a paradigm shift in the latter sense is a more

Arianna is a one of the founders of the Huffington Post. Her father put the idea of journalism in
her head because he would always dream of writing for a newspaper and he was a journalist

Kate Weiner s Fly Away Home
Divorce isn t such a tragedy. A tragedy s staying in an unhappy marriage, teaching your children
the wrong things about love. Nobody ever died of divorce, states Jennifer Weiner, a New York
Times Bestselling author, in her novel, Fly Away Home. Although Weiner has a point in voicing
that a dispirited and forlorn relationship can corrupt the innocent mentality of children, it is vital
that she also considers the darker, more sinister side of divorce. To put the term divorce simply, it is
what husband and wife do together when they no longer wish to do anything together (Yantiss). If
for any reason one may feel as if their current marriageisn t right, isn t working out, for them, one
way to solve that problem would be divorce: the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a matter of fact, about one in five women descend into poverty after divorce because of
unequal wages between the two genders. If one has children, they must pay for child support, a
court ordered payment to support the children of divorced families, in addition to other fees,
including payment for a separate house, or apartment, and other expenses if an adult has
custody, or shares custody of their children. Some will insist that this doesn t have much of an
effect on richer couples, but it s crucial that one remembers that both of the people involved in
the divorce don t automatically stay the way they are, even if they re rich and extremely
wealthy. They won t both maintain the same standard of living as they had before, so divorce
actually does have a financial effect on everybody, no matter the richer or the poorer the person
is. Essentially, the income that used to support any household now must stretch and break up to
support two. The loss of wealth can severely damage a person s life, but not as considerable as
the depletion of their well being. The influence of a divorce on one s health is severe, and may
lead to depression, or even death. According to Christina Hetherington, a therapist and life coach
specialising in Relationship and Divorce Coaching, divorced men have death rates that are 250
percent higher than married

taken the test to identify my four letter profile in three different ways. On the first time it was
ISFP meaning (). But on the second and third time it turned into ISFJ. So I have granted ISFJ as
my granted profile. The result shows many interesting facts about me. It suggested that I am 41%
Introvert, 31% Sensing, 41% Feeling and only 16% Judging. It means I have moderate
preference of Introversion over Extraversion, moderate preference of Sensing over Intuition,
moderate preference of Feeling over Thinking and a slight preference of Judging over Perceiving.
The interesting fact is that I can not deny these facts about me. And it is good to know that

Bullet In The Brain Analysis
The evaluation of the short novel, Bullet in the Brain by Tobias Wolff was quite an interesting
subject matter when it comes to the understanding of one s true experience with the phrase My
life flashed before my eyes . In this novel, Wolff tells a story about a man named Anders who
experiences forgotten memories in his life and realizes what he once was and what he turned out to

before it was closing time, a great deal of people are in line to do their own business at the same
time as him. Anders has an unfortunate luck as he goes in line right behind two annoying and loud
women who was having a, according to Wolff, stupid conversation. As time progresses, the bank

Edward Hopper Painted The Night Hawks
In 1942, American artist Edward Hopper painted The Night Hawks. This oil painting, is a 33 1
/8th in. x 60 in. piece. Hopper used oil paint on canvas, to create this piece. Currently this piece is
located at the Art Institute of Chicago. In The Night Hawks, a city diner is depicted sometime
at night. The buildings and diner design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there
are 4 people present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at
the diner. There are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are
wearing, we know that this diner is set sometime before 1960. After looking at the painting, I
believe that this is either an exact depiction of a real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a
real life diner. Within this painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses
to create this scene. The first element of design within this painting is, the use of light and
shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows, to create the visual of nighttime within the painting.
Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used to create the walls. Using light colors in this
way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are reflecting light. In addition, the countertop
within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in it. This effect also aids in making the
illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the dinner, light can be seen on the buildings across the
street. This

Iran Political Dynamic Essay
The Iranian Political Dynamic
One of the misconceptions of modernization was that societies would secularize as they
modernized. This formed the tenets of post war modernization theories. Notably, the end of
world war two was characterized by the decline of religious faiths and secularization of societies,
especially in Britain and America. This paradigm fitted the idea of development and breaking
free from the yoke of poverty, hunger, diseases and other social problems. As such, it was
believed that progress would only be achieved at the expense of religion. However, over the past
decades, countries such as the Islamic Republic of Iran have evolved into industrialized economies
with religion at the heart of their growth . It has, therefore, become a point of studies on religious
fundamentalism.
The Iranian revolution of 1978 to 1980 changed Iran s political system. The Iranian political
system is based on an agglomeration of politics and religion. The head of this unique political
system is the supreme religious leader: the Ayatollah. Notably, the Shite clergy rule over Iran and
as such, it embodies the absolute supremacy of Islam. The political system is also a fusion of
theocracy and democracy. On one end, it limits pluralism and on the other it allows election of
leaders through a public general election. The constitution of Iran allows popular sovereignty and
blend it with the rule of jurisconsults. In this respect, institutions are governed by the clergy, while

The Narrative Of The Life Of Fredrick Douglass
Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom. These words once said by George
Washington Carver align well with the ongoing theme of education versus ignorance throughout
The Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass. His life can be split in two: ignorance and
education, before and after, darkness and light whatever classification you choose it is irrefutable
that education changed his life and there is a clear delineation, a marked difference. The period of
Fredrick s life that can be filed under ignorance is the time predating his move to Baltimore.
Before the move Fredrick although a child was for all intents and purposes just like all the other
uneducated slaves, stuck in a oppressive cycle of ignorance. And this was the slaveholder s intent,

Fredrick goes on to describe all the terrible afflictions of a slave and the severe lack of justice
and he said, ...no matter how unjust, the slave must never utter a word. Slaveholders didn t want
their slaves to have a voice or an opinion, because to them slaves were just like animals with no
free will and no soul. Slaveholders didn t want their slaves to show opposition in actions and
neither in words because words are powerful, because God forbid the slave says something that
stirs someone s conscience, and makes them think twice about their deplorable behavior.
Furthermore it would be some sort of blasphemy for a slave to be literate, in fact many white

A Nurse Residency Program For New Nursing
Introduction The publication from the institute of medicine has garnered much interest since its
publication in 2010 focusing on the future of nursing and the implementation of this with in the
nursing community. The nursing profession has over 3 million members and is the largest
segment of the nation s health care workforce. Working on the front lines of patient care, nurses
can play a vital role in helping realize the objectives set forth in the 2010 IOM (Institute of
Medicine). One of the recommendations is that of a nurse residency program for new nurses or
nurses transitioning into new clinical practice areas. The area I work in is home health and this is
a growth area the need for a residency program cannot be over stated home... Show more content on

He theorized a three stage model of change known as unfreezing change refreeze model that
requires prior learning to be rejected and replaced. Lewin s definition of behavior in this model is
a dynamic balance of forces working in opposing directions. Implementing a change in practice
within these environments can produce anxiety or fear of failure in nurses, leading to a resistance
to change. Several studies (Bozak, 2003; Lehman, 2008; Spetz, Burgess Phibbs, 2012) expounded
the need for a concise plan and clear communication between nurses and management when
implementing a change of this nature. The use of Lewin s Change Management theory can support
nurses through the transitions and identify areas of strengths and resistances prior to implementing
change. Without a framework for guidance, it can be difficult to keep on track. As the demand for
home visits from nurses increases its necessities a need to prevent avoidable hospitalizations, it is
critical to attract and prepare more nurses for roles in home care. The residency program would
have input from the California Association for Health Services Home and the Infusion Nurse
Society. Providing newly graduate registered nurses support and experiences to become competent

Anatomy Of The Big Toe Analysis
It all starts with the big toe.
In order to go en pointe, the hallux must remain strong and straight. The extensor hallucis brevis
and flexor hallucis brevis must stay firm en pointe and show extraordinary control during the
pliГ©. Any sign of weakness through relevГ© in those phalanx bones can cause the whole system

What gets you from one to three? Even William Shakespeare recognized its significance as he
wondered what the true question was. Now, I understand that this toe, along with the remaining
anatomy of a body, especially as it explains ballet, is, to many, boring. However, to me, the
importance of this toe is fascinating. Learning about each part of the body that, when functioning
in a specific way, allows the body to create beautiful movements and lines, is captivating to my
mind. Without my understanding of the power of the big toe, and all of the other connected parts, I
would become that pile of bones and a tutu on stage in front of hundreds or thousands. This can
explain, and legitimize, my love of dance and anatomy, two subjects I have been able to combine
to put me on the path towards my life s goal, becoming a physical therapist and lifetime dancer.
These dreams would allow me to share this love. I wish to help as many others who aspire to

Blind Side Symbolism
The blind side, produced by John Lee Handcock, is based on the story and events of the Tuohy
family as they take in a young homeless boy by the name of Michael Oher. A fatherless Micheal
Oher is left in the care of his drug addicted mother in the gang filled projects of Memphis. But
soon things are about to change for him. Through a series of events he is accepted into Wingate
Christian School, which is an exclusive private school, even though his education level did not
meet their standards. During the attendance at Wingate he meets the Tuohy family who bring
him into their home and help him succeed in high school, college, and reach his professional
football career as he became the first round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft.
The Blind Side uses detailed scenes amplified by dialogue and symbolism to portray the theme of
judging a person by their appearance and past verses judging them by their character and abilities.
The first time this theme is displayed is after Tony Hamilton, father of Steven, goes to Wingate in
order to get his son ,Steven, a better education. After prospecting Steven as an all star sports player
to coach Cotton, Tony tells the coach that not only does he wants Steven to attend Wingate but he
also would like Big Mike(Michael Oher) to attend. After the coach looks out the window, seeing
Bike Mike and Steven playing basketball, he presents their paperwork to the board of Wingate. As

How Turkmenistan Is An Authoritarian Country
Turkmenistan is a country located in central Asia with Afghanistan and Iran as its neighbors to the
south and Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan as its neighbor to the north. It has an area of 488,100 square

Although the country claims to have a secular democracy as its government structure, Turkmenistan
is actually an authoritarian state with the president holding the majority of political powers. Once
the president of this country took office, he will hold this position for life and his authority over the
political and economic aspects of the country are near absolute since he has control over both the

purpose was to promote collaboration on the issues of economics, defense and foreign policy, but
now its function mostly resembles a trade bloc. Turkmenistan s currency is the manat and its

Zoos In The Philippines Essay
Zoological Park or more commonly called zoo is what you call a place wherein animals are held
captive and are on display for people to observe. Zoos are also called as menageries in some
places. Menageries are exhibits of animals, especially wild animals, in enclosures. During the

enclosures in Manila Zoo are old, rusty and too small for the animals. The cages that the

other retailers. Thus, consumers being price sensitive thought of Tweeter as the store selling
high priced goods. Even though the middle and high end stuff are sold at around the same prices
as in all stores. The lack of awareness along with the price advertising has made the Tweeter
appear more costly and specialized for high end customers and thus driving consumers away. As
can be justified Tweeter s 70% sales was due to Quality/Service customers which look for high
levels of product quality and customer service due to its image. As can be seen from the survey,
the awareness level of people about APP was very low. Only 32% of the respondents could define

of APP. Concern 5: Is Tweeter actually price competitive among its competitors Tweeter is price

Analysis Of Alfie Kohn s The One-Sided Culture War Against...
As we all know mother does know best, yet in some cases mother can do more harm than good.
There is a big debate on how people are raising the newest generations and whether or not they are
properly being introduced into the realities of our society. Are children being spoiled too much or
not enough? This topic is thoroughly discussed by Alfie Kohnin his essay, The One sided Culture
War against Children and by Nick Gillespie within his essay, The Current State of Childhood: Is
Helicopter Parentingor Free Range Childhood Better for Kids? . Although Kohn offers valid
explanations, Gillespie does surpass Kohn s explanations; parents need to be less overbearing and
stop pampering their children.
Within Kohn s essay he responds to the accusations of selfishness and ungratefulness given to the
younger generations today. He finds it ridiculous at this point how stereotypical the beliefs of
older generations are about younger generations and their more liberal thinking, it s always the
same accusations again and again. Kids are always ungrateful and they never learn to appreciate
what life they have been given, is too overheard within this topic, they have become our society s
conventional wisdom about children...it will almost be from this direction . Kohn also says, that
too many always claim that discipline from the parents is too common, If the subject is discipline
(and limits imposed by parents), the writer will insist that kids today get too little . He states that
these claims are all misconceptions and both the child and the parent should not be at fault because
these myths are just not true, there is no evidence to show, what impact, if any, this practice has
on the kids . Statistical evidence also shows how these assertions are wrong by showing how all
articles that condemn young people are merely recycling the same information and, only 27
percent of educators in the sample report having seen many examples of overinvolved parenting ,
this is a very low number from a sample of families within school districts. Kohn demonstrates that
even educators who see the children year round don t see the common overbearing parent raising
their children to be narcissistic and egotistical adults.

Pollan talks about the American Paradox, an unhealthy obsession with eating right thing. The

believes that culture is one factor which answers three primary questions of what to eat, the amount

After the World War II, the United States led the European countries to establish the World Bank

Gynaecology is a special medical area which is more prominent in the developed countries and they
have gone further in marketing such services especially in the private sector. However in most
less developed countries like Zimbabwe marketing of such services is almost rare, despite the
growing importance of gynaecological services. Firstly this is due to the fact that most medical

not as marketers. Also some of these service firms believe such marketing can only be done only
by large companies operating in developed countries.

Essay about The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society
The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society A major reason in favor of the construction of high
speed trains in America is to relieve airways and traffic congestion. First, delays at airports are
costly. Larry Johnson, director of the Center for transportation Research at Argonne National
Laboratory near Chicago, calculates that passengers lose more that twelve million hours each
year in delays at O Hare airport alone. In 1986, according to the Federal Aviation Administration

In the next twenty years, this insidious tax is projected to nearly double (Mallinckarodt p1). Bill
Fay said, Cars stuck in traffic waste more fuel and emit more pollutants than cars that are
moving (Dahl 4). High occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes are one of the primary tools used to
reduce traffic congestion on the state highway system and improve air quality ( HOV Lanes in
California #8230; p1). The usual goal of HOV lane restrictions is to provide overall congestion,
and emissions reduction (Mallinckdet. p 1). However, in recent years, HOV lanes effectiveness
in achieving these goals has come in to question ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). When
drivers use a highway, they do not pay the cost that they may be imposing on other drivers. Ideally,
traffic should flow smoothly at the speed limit. However, as traffic increases, eventually the
addition of one more vehicle will slow the flow and increase the travel time of other vehicles. At
this point congestion (the negative externality) begins (Dahl p4). Sen Daniel Patrick Moynihan
said, The train technology, offers great opportunities to reduce congestion in our surface and air
transportation system (Clough 9). Thus building high speed trains would aid the problem of
increasing congestion at America s airports and on the highways. Those who argue against high

Unfortunately, some counselors are unaware of how to approach some students going through

piston during the power stroke. The force on the piston is transmitted by the piston rod to the
crankshaft, where the linear motion of the piston is converted to angular motion of the crankshaft.
Hall s article for NASA states that the work done on the piston is then used to turn the shaft (para.
8). Having produced the igniting spark, the electrical contact remains opened. During the power
stroke, the volume occupied by the gases is increased because of the piston motion and no heat is
transferred to the fuel/air mixture (para. 9). As the volume is increased because of the piston s
motion, the pressure and temperature of the gas are decreased. Heat that is left over from the
power stroke is now transferred to the water in the water jacket until the pressure approaches
atmospheric pressure; the

Julius Caesar Character Analysis
In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar we read about how William Shakespeare uses the book to portray
many different characteristics or themes through the characters he writes about. Shakespeare is
known as one of the most successful and greatest writers of his time. Having wrote over 37 plays
and 154 sonnets in his lifetime which would make it seem to be true. The works surveyed in the
preceding pages have given Shakespeare his status as the greatest writer in English, perhaps in any

Power In Fahrenheit 451
Society s Tools to Control Us
How society controls individuals is seen in everyday life in most places that any person may
visit on an average day. The book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, written in 1953, is set in in
the future. The book s concept is about how books were banned and it explained how life was
changed without books. It has many fictional examples of how society controls individuals in real
life even today. However, they might be seen as slightly exaggerated. There are many
documentaries and articles that explain and warn of the power society can have over an individual,
and how the people must guard themselves against it. Society controlling individuals is shown
Fahrenheit 451 and the modern world through media, peer pressure, and ignorance about society s
power.
The media controlling individuals through society is not a new subject. Advertisements, shows,
and news all influencing what each individual thinks about the world and in turn allowing power
over the people engaged with it. So what is power? How exactly does it affect me? Well,
Carnegie Endowment for International Peace explains it as Power is the ability of one party [or an
individual] to make another party do, or stop doing, something. (NaГm, MoisГ©s. Why Power Is
Decaying in the Modern World ). Simply put this can also be explained as power being in control
over another thing. This is shown in Fahrenheit 451 in Mildred s (,the main character s wife,) and
her friends interaction

  • 2. Essay about Toll like receptors and their therapeutic... Cellular Basis Of Disease: Why has the discovery of Toll like receptors revolutionised our understanding of how the innate immune system works, and what is the therapeutic potential? The body has two immune systems: the innate immune system and the adaptive immune system. Adaptive, or acquired, immunity refers to antigen specific defence mechanisms that take several days to become protective and are designed to react with and remove a specific antigen. This is immunity develops throughout life. Innate immunity refers to antigen nonspecific defence mechanisms that a host uses immediately or within several hours after exposure to an antigen. This is the immunity that you are born with, and is the initial response by the body to eliminate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PRRs recognise molecules that are not associated to human cells (PAMPs). The best characterised signalling PRRs are the Toll like receptors (TLRs). They are present in plants, invertebrates and vertebrates, and represent a primitive host defence mechanism against bacteria, fungi and viruses. There are 13 TLRs that have been discovered in mammals so far, named TLR 1 to TLR 13. TLRs are primary transmembrane proteins of immune cells, that contain leucine repeats in their extracellular domains and a cytoplasmic tail that contains a conserved region called the Toll / IL1 receptor (TIR) domain. The Toll gene was first discovered in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, but has close homologues in mammalian immune cells. This is where the name Toll like receptor is derived. Different combinations of TLRs appear in pairs in different cell types. Different TLRs bind directly or indirectly to different microbial molecules. TLRs found on cell surfaces: a. TLR 1/TLR 2 pairs bind uniquely bacterial lipopeptides and GPI anchored proteins in parasites b. TLR 2/TL6 pairs bind lipoteichoic acid from gram positive cell walls and zymosan from fung c. TLR 4/TLR 4 pairs bind lipopolysaccharide from gram negative cell walls; d. TLR 5 binds bacterial flagellin TLRs found in the membranes of the endosomes used to degrade pathogens: a. • 3. Concentration Camps Of The Second Anglo-Boer War One of many forms of oppression the British practiced during the Second Anglo Boer War was the use of concentration camps. Both blacks and whites were placed in the camps, and were required to perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white camps were segregated, and the treatment of the inmates in the black concentration camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less rations were given, and less maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and poor living conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been transferred to civilian control, the black concentration camps still remained under military command (Pretorius). Though many Boers and British believed the war to be a white man s war , blacks continued to be segregated and oppressed in order to profit off of their labor and gain advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on the side of the British, believing they would receive education and more economic opportunities with a victory by England ( Role ). Regardless of what side the natives took, the eventual outcomes of the war still prevented them from reaching true equality with the soldiers they fought with at the turn of the twentieth century. Subtle rules and regulations were implemented as a treaty between the English and Boers prevented blacks from ever escaping the European induced living conditions. The stipulation in the Treaty of Vereeniging that schools continue to teach in Dutch, and conduct court in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since starting the PLP I have understood more about myself. In PLP I have done the University of South Australia Career Match workbook. In this workbook, I know that I am an Analyser Driver who look to system, rules and order within a structured environment, and have a high desire to achieve. After doing this workbook, I have a clearer concept of my personality and working style. I have also done a student evaluation workbook. • 5. What Is Grounded Theory ( Glaser And Strauss ) 1. Method We use a single case study methodology to focus on a failed IS project implementation. The study uses grounded theory (Glaser and Strauss 1967; c.f., Charmaz 2013; c.f., Corbin and Strauss 2015) in its focus on principles of emergence by which systematic generation and conceptualization of data provides meaning and relevance to concepts (Glaser and Strauss 1967). In accordance with the recommendations of engaged scholarship by Van de Ven (2007), the project began with the identification of a research problem identified to be relevant to experienced practitioners in leading organizations of IT project management. To develop a base understanding of the challenges experienced in the execution of IT projects, we engaged informally with key industry informants. Observations made in this stage were used to inform the specific research objectives and question put forth in the Introduction. Specifically, observations were used as data that was conceptualized based on theoretical sensitivity in line with grounded theory (Glaser 1978; Strauss and Corbin 1990). Data complexity was used in the early stages of the research to allow the relevant themes and findings to emerge from the data and to avoid forcing the data to fit existing theories (Urquhart 2013). The conceptual development aspect of grounded theory allows us to discover theory from the data and identify the theories and tenets within that are applicable to IT contexts of interest (Jabareen 2009; Birks et ... This can be simply attributed to the fact that adult males seldom participated in the cannibalizing of the dead. In addition to this, when adult males did participate in the mortuary feasts, they often consumed the muscle tissues of the deceased and not the brain, which is the most infectious organ when concerning kuru. Due to the loss of susceptible genotypes and the decline of cannibalistic practices by the Fore people, there were less incidences of Kuru and a decline in kuru mortality rate after the 1950 s. The active phase of the kuru disease can be differentiated into three main stages, each with their own set of unique symptoms: ambulant stage, sedentary stage and terminal stage. The entirety of the active phase of kuru occurs within 12 months. Before any of these stages emerge, the patient experiences preliminary symptoms in the prodromal period such as headaches and joint pain that starts at the knees and ankles then proceeds to the elbows and wrists (Liberski et al., 2012). • 8. How Did Copernicus Create A Paradigm Shift To A... This paper analyzes the veracity of the fairly commonplace belief that Nicolaus Copernicus produced a paradigm shift in the field of astronomy from the geocentric Ptolemaic model to his own heliocentric model that resembles what contemporary astronomy deems as true. The starting point is the analysis of the work put forth by Copernicus in contrast to his Ptolemaic predecessors and his heliocentric successors. The framework for this analysis is the one suggested by Thomas Kuhn in his description of a paradigm shift in the context of scientific development. The paper concludes that Copernicus deserves a lot of credit for initiating the heliocentric paradigm shift, similar to the widespread sentiment that his work revolutionized astronomy and produced a paradigm shift to a heliocentric model, but not quite the same. His work retains a large number of elements from the Ptolemaic system which prevented it from being a clear shift, but he does indeed challenge the geocentric and geostationary (that the earth is at rest) assumptions in a move that threatens the core of the Ptolemaic system. Nonetheless, his work did little more than argue from a position with weak... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at the diner. There are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are wearing, we know that this diner is set sometime before 1960. Within this painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene. The first element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows, to create the visual of nighttime within the painting. Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used to create the walls. Using light colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are reflecting light. In addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in it. This effect also aids in making the illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the dinner, light can be seen on the buildings across the street. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This formed the tenets of post war modernization theories. Notably, the end of world war two was characterized by the decline of religious faiths and secularization of societies, especially in Britain and America. This paradigm fitted the idea of development and breaking free from the yoke of poverty, hunger, diseases and other social problems. As such, it was believed that progress would only be achieved at the expense of religion. However, over the past decades, countries such as the Islamic Republic of Iran have evolved into industrialized economies with religion at the heart of their growth . It has, therefore, become a point of studies on religious fundamentalism. The Iranian revolution of 1978 to 1980 changed Iran s political system. • 27. Blind Side Symbolism The blind side, produced by John Lee Handcock, is based on the story and events of the Tuohy family as they take in a young homeless boy by the name of Michael Oher. A fatherless Micheal Oher is left in the care of his drug addicted mother in the gang filled projects of Memphis. But soon things are about to change for him. Through a series of events he is accepted into Wingate Christian School, which is an exclusive private school, even though his education level did not meet their standards. During the attendance at Wingate he meets the Tuohy family who bring him into their home and help him succeed in high school, college, and reach his professional football career as he became the first round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft. The Blind Side uses detailed scenes amplified by dialogue and symbolism to portray the theme of judging a person by their appearance and past verses judging them by their character and abilities. The first time this theme is displayed is after Tony Hamilton, father of Steven, goes to Wingate in order to get his son ,Steven, a better education. After prospecting Steven as an all star sports player to coach Cotton, Tony tells the coach that not only does he wants Steven to attend Wingate but he also would like Big Mike(Michael Oher) to attend. There is a big debate on how people are raising the newest generations and whether or not they are properly being introduced into the realities of our society. Are children being spoiled too much or not enough? This topic is thoroughly discussed by Alfie Kohnin his essay, The One sided Culture War against Children and by Nick Gillespie within his essay, The Current State of Childhood: Is Helicopter Parentingor Free Range Childhood Better for Kids? . Although Kohn offers valid explanations, Gillespie does surpass Kohn s explanations; parents need to be less overbearing and stop pampering their children. Within Kohn s essay he responds to the accusations of selfishness and ungratefulness given to the younger generations today. He finds it ridiculous at this point how stereotypical the beliefs of older generations are about younger generations and their more liberal thinking, it s always the same accusations again and again. Kids are always ungrateful and they never learn to appreciate what life they have been given, is too overheard within this topic, they have become our society s conventional wisdom about children...it will almost be from this direction . Kohn also says, that too many always claim that discipline from the parents is too common, If the subject is discipline (and limits imposed by parents), the writer will insist that kids today get too little . He states that these claims are all misconceptions and both the child and the parent should not be at fault because these myths are just not true, there is no evidence to show, what impact, if any, this practice has on the kids . Statistical evidence also shows how these assertions are wrong by showing how all articles that condemn young people are merely recycling the same information and, only 27 percent of educators in the sample report having seen many examples of overinvolved parenting , this is a very low number from a sample of families within school districts. Kohn demonstrates that even educators who see the children year round don t see the common overbearing parent raising their children to be narcissistic and egotistical adults. ... The usual goal of HOV lane restrictions is to provide overall congestion, and emissions reduction (Mallinckdet. p 1). However, in recent years, HOV lanes effectiveness in achieving these goals has come in to question ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). When drivers use a highway, they do not pay the cost that they may be imposing on other drivers. Ideally, traffic should flow smoothly at the speed limit. However, as traffic increases, eventually the addition of one more vehicle will slow the flow and increase the travel time of other vehicles. At this point congestion (the negative externality) begins (Dahl p4). The combustion increases the temperature of the exhaust gases, any residual air in the combustion chamber, and the combustion chamber itself. From the ideal gas law, the increased temperature of the gases also produces an increased pressure in the combustion chamber; the high pressure of the gases acting on the face of the piston cause the piston to move to which initiates the power stroke (para. 8). Unlike the compression stroke, the hot gas does work on the piston during the power stroke. The force on the piston is transmitted by the piston rod to the crankshaft, where the linear motion of the piston is converted to angular motion of the crankshaft.
